Feudalism And The Code Of Chivalry
The act of Feudalism and The Code of Chivalry both arose sometime during the medieval time
period. Feudalism was said to be based on the exchange of land for military service ( Feudalism ).
This meant the King would reward those who were loyal to him and fought during battle with land.
Life lived under the Medieval Feudal System, or Feudalism, demanded that everyone owed
allegiance to the King and their immediate superior ( Feudalism ). This lead to the creation of The
Feudalism Pyramid, which changed England s society.
The Feudalism Pyramid segregated and ranked individuals based on the amount of power one
obtained. Obtaining power was usually based on the amount of land one owned. However, the
ranking of the pyramid was typically in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Analysis of Three Books About Gorbachev Essay
Analysis of Three Books About Gorbachev
The history of the Soviet Union is complicated and fascinating. In the course of only seventy years
this country has seen the development of the totally new system of state, economic growth, the
growth of hopes for the brighter future , and then the sudden and expected by no one collapse of
the whole system leading to chaos, wars, and confusion. One period is especially important in order
to realize how did things finally started to change after the seventy years of blindly pursuing the
dream of communism which left the Soviet Union in a very bad economical and moral state, and
this period is called perestroika, Russian for restructuring. The main figure behind this process
which began in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This influence lasted for years and the fact that Gorbachev has become
westernized in his appearance, manners, dress and the image he projects of tolerance and cordial
behavior, all the small signs which mark him as different from the usual Komsomol and Party
boss , is according to Medvedev due to a great extent to the fact that Mlynar was Gorbachev s
roommate (Medvedev, 1986, p. 43).
Although the first part of the book is certainly interesting and important I would like to
concentrate on the second part of the book since it is directly deals with the subject that interests
me most, that is the years when Gorbachev was in power and the development of the new course
in the Soviet life called perestroika. From just reading the first paragraph it is obvious that the
author approves of the new leader. Medvedev writes: For the first time in
Soviet history, the leadership succession has meant more than the arrival of a new leader and the
possibility of the implementation of the new policies. The
Gorbachev succession marks the appearance of a new political generation which differs from the
old guard in style, knowledge and historical vision....Gorbachev represents a younger post war
political generation, a generation which started its professional Party or state career during the
more liberal Krushchev era (p. 165). Medvedev quotes some of the very enthusiastic
Western newspaper comments which called Gorbachev a bright, incisive,

Mark David Chapman Analysis
Furthermore the authenticity of the novel is what draws a dedicated audience to it, because not
only are the themes universal, but they are expressed in an equally odd and captivating way. This
makes the messages in the work memorable, but the factor that really pulls the story together and
catapulted it to fame is it does not give the reader the impression that the author is overtly trying to
be unique or impressive. The casual tone in which the story is told gives an air of familiar
transparency, allowing the reader to have a connection and relationship with Holden Caulfield as
they both struggle with the seemingly impossible questions of life. This seems to be the case with
many people who have an unhealthy and compulsive connection to the... Show more content on

On first glance there does not seem to be a clear ending or resolution, but when looking further it
becomes clear that Holden finally begins the process of self discovery. He is getting the help he
needs from loved ones, reflecting on things prior he refused to acknowledge, and seeing a
psychoanalyst, all being indicative of the beginnings of self discovery he has been desperately
avoiding for the majority of the work. At the same time his general cynicism of the world lingers
as seen in the ending line, but it is countered by the acknowledgement that he misses people and
has affectionate connection to those he distanced himself from Don t ever tell anybody anything.
If you do, you start missing everybody. (Salinger 214) These men who committed these crimes
appeared to have a hard time accepting the abrupt ending of a narrative they so deeply connected
with, so in the case of Mark David Chapman he took the story into his own hands becoming
Holden and making sure what Holden strives for lives on in reality. After murdering his victim,
Chapman planned to hold up a copy of The Catcher In The Rye and shout, I am Holden Caulfield,
the catcher in the rye of the present generation. However, he was surprised to discover that he did
not turn into Caulfield after shooting Lennon. (Mark David Chapman). Despite some negative
repercussions in society from troubled people the novel continues to be

Langhorne History
The modern history of Langhorne can be traced to a house built by Jack Alexander during the
1600s. However, the area was sparsely populated until the first quarter of the 18th century. As traffic
on the road between Philadelphia and Trenton increased, the community that would become
Langhorne became a transportation hub for the stagecoach line. Originally, the community was
known as Four Lanes End before its name was changed to Attleborough. When the village was
incorporated in 1876, the name was changed to Langhorne in honor of an early resident, Jeremiah
Langhorne. There are several sites in and around Langhorne that are listed on the National Register

However, modern buildings are also at risk. Termites feed on wood, so any structure with wood
siding, wood studs in the walls, wood floor joists or any other component that attracts termites
can fall victim to an infestation. Unfortunately, termite infestations can go undiscovered for
many years, and by the time that termites are identified, they may have caused thousands of
dollars in damage. Whether you own a residential or commercial property, you will need expert,
effective treatment to eliminate termites and prevent additional damage. Bed Bug Control Once
thought eradicated in the United States, bed bugs have made a comeback in recent years.
Contrary to what some people believe, bed bugs are seldom a reflection on the cleanliness of the
property. Bed bugs have been found in expensive hotels, upscale boutiques, hospitals and
airplanes as well as movie theaters, taxis and libraries. They may be brought home from a cruise
or a train ride. Bed bugs are difficult to see and are quite reclusive. If you suspect that bed bugs

Essay on The Pros and Cons of Unions
Is it in the workers best interest to unionize? As part of their retention and benefit plan, many
companies offer stock options. Do stock option plans for unionized companies perform better than
for non unionized companies? This question will be answered by a study authored by
representatives of Rutgers University and New York Institute of Technology. Do the proposed
union rules by The National Labor Relations Board and the Department of Labor help workers and
support job creation? Two major components of the proposed legislation are snap elections and the
formation of micro unions. According to James Sherk of the Heritage Foundation, these measures
would undermine employees rights and discourage job creation. Data from a Hearing before... Show

Results on worker retention suggest unions decrease turnover among lower productivity workers,
but increase it among higher productivity workers (Frandsen, 2010). Another way to retain top
talent is to offer stock options. An analysis of 229 companies found that only 5.5 percent of the
companies with unions have broad based stock options, while 12 percent of the non union
companies did (Performance Effects of Options in New Economy and Unionized Companies,
2011). The study also found that unionized stock option companies improved productivity relative
to non stock option companies, but that compared to non union stock option companies, the
unionized companies did somewhat worse.
Snap Elections and Micro Unions
The NRLB proposes to shrink the time frame for union elections to between 10 and 21 days. The
current time frame is between 38 and 60 days (Sherk, 2011). Such snap elections would short
circuit the time employers have to make their case, and they would make decisions based mainly
on information received from the union. Snap elections would not serve workers well because
union organizers do not impartially advocate workers best interests. They are salesmen who are
paid to persuade workers to become dues paying union members (Sherk, 2011) and they may use
many misleading, but legal, tactics to win worker support. Mr. Ricardo Torres, former union
organizer for the United Steelworks, testified before Congress that he worked

Retirement Planning Research Paper
There are many people who will offer you a retirement planning tip to help you achieve the
retirement you ve always wanted. Of course, not all this information is good. First of all, you need
to realize that the most important part of your retirement planning is your investing.
Most people pay very little attention to their investing activity, and simply let their employer handle
where their 401k and other retirement money goes. Knowing this information yourself is crucial,
because without understanding investing and knowing the best places to put your money, you will
never achieve your retirement goals and lifestyle.

For instance, if you need $1 million in the bank by 2030, your investing choices will be different
than if you knew that you only needed $300,000 in the bank.
The main point is to find out how much money you will need when you retire, and find the right
investment vehicle for you to help get you there. Of course, this vehicle will be different for
everybody depending on their retirement needs; there is no right or wrong answer to where you
invest. You can invest in real state, the stock market, mutual funds, bonds, etc. It really doesn t
matter.
When you invest however, remember that the bottom line is always about the numbers. This is the
number one retirement planning tip that just about everybody misses. Believe it or not, most
investors never look at the financial situation behind the investment they are considering.
For example, in the stock market, many investors will simply look at how a stock price of the
company s doing, and jump aboard only because the price is going up. There may be no profits at
all behind that particular company (in fact there often aren t) but they will still invest anyway,
because their stock broker call them up and told them

The Evolution of Management Thought
The Evolution of Management Thought
Through the practice of management and the continued development of commerce and wealth we
are transforming our lives. In Massachusetts (USA) in the 1850s the life expectancy of a male
would have been 37 years of age and a female 40: in 1929 it was 58 for a male and 61 for a female;
nowadays life expectancy would be in the region 70 80 years.
While appreciating the past success of management we would also recognize that today s
accelerating pace of change is putting pressure on our organizations to be at the forefront of
management thinking. If we want to maintain our standard of living our rate of change has to be
comparative to the rest of the world.
But our present day management thinking has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Our legal system is based on this misconception.
Into this growing of industrial society comes another Scot Daniel McCallum as President of the
New York to Eire Railroad. In 1854 he was facing specific problems related to the size of his
organization and a workforce that was in the main uneducated. His workers were immigrant and
with an agricultural background and not used to a factory discipline imposed by management. In
this environment he determines sound management as being based on: * Good discipline *
Specific and detailed job descriptions * Frequent and accurate reporting of performance * Pay and
promotion based on merit * Clearly defined hierarchy of superiors and subordinates * Enforcement
of personal responsibility and accountability. * The search for and correction of errors
From this thinking he follows the classic hierarchical organization chart.
Charles Darwin s work on The Origin of the Species is published in 1859. Herbert Spencer (1820
1903) subsequently develops the theme of survival of the fittest in his Social Darwinism. Our
society accepts the essential nature of competition, survival of the fittest and adulation of winners.

Adorno And Horkheimer s Essay
Whilst putting Adorno and Horkheimer s essay, The Culture Industry and Benjamin s Work of Art
in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction into conversation, a debate had been sparked regarding
the issue of artistic individualism and uniqueness. Although, Adorno, Horkheimer, and Benjamin
all seem to agree that the aura of art is rapidly declining in today s modern age, they seem to
differ in classifying the reason behind it. The aura refers to the one timeness of the experience of a
certain object, which can be possessed only by the original work of art itself, and therefore cannot
be reproduced. In essence, the aura is the one timeness of the experience, the situation in which the
subject meets the object that cannot be reproduced. For

How the Other Half Lives
Introduction
The book How the Other Half lives, is one of those books that definitely affects you as soon as
you read it. Jacob Riis the author of the book, wrote it exactly for the purpose, to affect people and
get them to realize how bad the conditions were back then in New York City. He goes into full
depth, of what the living conditions were like, who lived in them, and how they were affected by
them. Mostly how each ethnic group lived in the tenements, and what the city did to improve them.

The Mixed Crowd When once I asked the agent of a notorious Forth Ward alley how many
people might be living in it I was told: One hundred and forty families, one hundred Irish, thirty
eight Italians, and two the spoke the German tongue(How the Other Half Lives,p.3). There was
not one native born american in the court, or in any of the tenements. The irish were the true
cosmopolitan immigrant. All pervadin, he shares his lodging with perfect impartiality with the
Italian, the Greek, and the Dutchman, yielding on to sheer for of numbers, and objects equally
to them all. The city maps were colorized for each nationality, if you were to look at a map at that
time, Irish were mostly on the West Side and the Germans were mostly on the East Side. Mixed

remains stationary. The Irishman s genius runs to public affairs rather than domestic life; wherever

The Plan For New Homes
With the economic crash that started in 2007 and continued for a couple years countless men and
woman lost their jobs and homes. Due in part to the ability to over extend themselves they were
maxed out in their credit to debt ratios, struggling just to make ends meet. Thankfully, with the
downfall they experienced, these foreclosure and short sell victims have finally been able to bounce
back. Many today are beginning to enter back into the housing market looking for new homes,
although this time instead of trying to find the max they can afford, they are now more concerned
with the payment they can afford.
These newly educated buyers have learned a few ways to come back stronger than ever and stay
on top thanks to their shortcomings from the past. One of such ways is by a federal program
called The back to work program , which helps out those who lost their homes due to the crash.
This program is federally insured and offers buyers the second chance they need in as little as 12
months after a foreclosure or bankruptcy. The buyermust be able to prove that there was at least a
20% loss in income before the action took place as well. Although many if the victims are afraid to
get back into the game, they are finding more and better ways than ever before.
Another possibility that has become ever increasingly popular is the rent to own option. Rent to
own is really a lease option, which means that the buyer gets the home now and pays monthly rent
for a predetermined amount of

My Understanding of Extremism and Domestic Terrorism Essay
My understanding of extremism is that it s a term used to describe the actions or ideologies of
individuals or groups outside the perceived political center of a society; or otherwise claimed to
violate common moral standards. In democratic societies, individuals or groups which advocate that
democracy should be replaced with some kind of authoritarian regime are usually branded
extremists.
There have been several terrorist acts committed in the United States of America, not by terrorists
that live in other countries and despise the American ways and ideas, but by our own citizens who
live and work in the United States of America. Domestic terrorism is done by a person or group of

Americans feel that after 911, the sense of patriotism and support for the government should have
been at an all time high. However, strict government reforms and new laws that have tightened
and, what some feel, interfere with some of our freedoms since 911 have drastically upset many of
the extremist groups and militias. Militia members have intense hatred or fear toward the
government and believe that there are federal conspiracies in which the government is planning to
disarm its citizens. Hatred for the government grows out of these faucets as it faces these groups
with opposition and attempts to expose them. Anti government extremists are a large part of the
radicals that cause a lot of the domestic terrorism. They are driven by their strong beliefs and goals
and believe that they are correct in their thinking and the government is wrong. Domestic extremists
are driven by internal factors and pursue a domestic agenda.
Although anti government extremists are a large part of the domestic terrorism group. There are

Her compromise between Roman Catholicism and Protestantism prevented a religious war from

The knowledge about Africa can be very helpful in such cases where as a dietitian, we may have

College Should Be Free
College attendance has certainly increased over the decades compared to the old American days
of college being funded and without the burden of tuition. Some may object at the concept of
college being free and others may agree based on many confounding variables. Rich families may
find it easier to fund their children s college and the poor may find it so difficult that their children
simply drop out to obtain a full time job. The administering of scholarships and financial aid has
certainly been an opportunity to obtain direct assistance for college, but it has proven to still be a
challenge to fund college students. College should be free to improve the equity between
Americans in pursuing higher education, to eventually improve the American economy and
workforce and to allow students to live happier lives in completing education and living debt free.
College should be free to improve the equity between Americans in pursuing higher education, in
order to progressively reduce the gap between the wealthy and poor. Since the 1900 s America s
top one percent, of high income earners, have gained more of America s income by a double
increase. The wealthier classes in America certainly have obtained an unfair advantage in pursuing
higher education compared to the low income families who lack financial resources. America s top
performing high school students never have the opportunity to apply to the most rigorous colleges
or universities, despite the evident academic capability,

Colorado Legalization And The Netherlands Drug Policy
Colorado Legalization and The Netherlands Drug Policy
Amanda McKeel
Monmouth University
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to discuss the legalization of marijuana in Colorado as well as the
Netherlands drug policy. It has been found that even though Colorado has legalized marijuana,
there are provisions that must be followed. The Netherlands however have not legalized
marijuana, but they do feel that seeing possession of marijuana is not a crime, so therefore
marijuana is tolerated. Colorado s society does not agree with this legalization due to adolescent
use, however the Colorado Amendment 64 protects this. The Netherlands is seen as too liberal, but
they are only doing what is in the best interest of the users. ... Show more content on

The main question is, with marijuana being legalized in Colorado and tolerated in the Netherlands,
what is the affect of such legalization?
The legalization of marijuana, for some, is not something to take lightly, but I do not think it is
the worst drug. In my own opinion heroin and cocaine are two drugs that should not be legal
because of the harmful effects they cause. Marijuana, in my own opinion is the lesser of the two
evils, so if states and countries want to legalize it, they can do what they please. Now I know
some people would disagree with me on this, but everyone is entitled to their own opinions. I
would rather see marijuana legalized then heroin or cocaine.
Colorado
Colorado s legalization of marijuana began in 2000 with the Colorado Amendment 20. According to
Davis, Mendelson, berkes, Suleta, Corsi Booth (2015) the Colorado Amendment 20 legalized
cannabis for medical use only. Even though this was true however, not just anybody was allowed
to obtain marijuana. Any person wishing to obtain cannabis had to have a condition that was
debilitating. Debilitating conditions approved by the Colorado Department of Public Health and
Environment (CDPHE) and included in Amendment 20 are cancer, glaucoma, HIV or AIDS,
cachexia, severe pain, severe nausea, seizures, muscle spasms, and any other condition approved
by CDPHE (Davis et.al, 2015, p.1). This Amendment lasted for nine years and in 2009, anyone
was allowed to obtain medical cannabis. There was no

The Arguments Against School Uniforms By Michelle Kouzmine
I hate my uniform! is what every child who is required to wear a uniform would say. What students

students to be more respectful as well as obedient. I believe that uniforms provide students with a
sense of pride, security and focus. In The Arguments Against School Uniformsby Michelle

Though self expression may seem good, it can lead to bullying and other social arguments. In the
article What s the point of school uniform by Chloe Spencer, it states that students argue that they
lose their self identity and right to express themselves due to uniforms. Many schools have different
cliques and the root cause of them is self expression. When students express themselves through
clothing, they can be picked on by other students. However, if everyone was dressed in the same
type of clothing, stereotyping would be a difficult task. Non uniform clothing can make students
aware of ones social and economic status. This leads to bullying which can include mental and
physical harm. In the article What s the point of school uniform by Chloe Spencer, it states that
nearly 160,000 students miss school every day due to the fear that they will be attacked or be
intimidated by other students. This can be prevented solely by enforcing uniforms in all schools.

The Cost Of An Education
The cost of an education in America has steadily increased over the last decade making it near
impossible for some to even dream of furthering their education. We have placed such a big
significance on this piece of paper that even with the experience in hand you may not even be
looked at for a job without a degree. On the same note you may receive a glance but miss the
opportunity because of a lack of experience. A person must sit back and think will the rewards of
furthering my education outweigh the cost and future financial burden. During the year 2014
2015 the standard cost of tuition in a two Year Institution, for one year of college with room and
board would cost you $10,837. Want to go to a four Year Institution? Try $23,600, a year for
tuition, room and board. This is over $7,000 more than the cost 10 years ago for a four year
institution and $3,700 more than a two year institution. In the years to come the cost of continuing
education will stay on the path of increase, the project cost of education in 2029 will be $102,900
for a public university (Statistic Brain Research Institute, 2015). What is driving this cost? What are
we paying for? At a public two year institution, the tuition is approximately 19 percent of the total
price; while a public four year institution it is approximately 40 percent. Remember, the cost of fees,
books, housing, supplies, transportation and personal expenses are not included in this 40 percent

SNL and Gendered Politics
Here you have this serious presidential campaign, and all of us had to go on these comedy
shows like Saturday Night Live, because that was the only way we could have more than a
soundbite and reach a large audience, Ralph Nader said in an interview regarding his 2000 bid
for president. A 2004 study done by Pew research found that 20% of Americans between the ages
of 18 to 24 regularly get their news from late night television shows, like Saturday Night Live. With
satirical outlets as a legitimate and consistent source of information, their representation of
politicians becomes a crucial part of how that politician is perceived by the general electorate.
Political satire is certainly not a new concept, but its emergence as a viable news source has come
as a result of our polarized political climate, and intertwinement of news with the entertainment
industry. According to a poll conducted by Gallup in September of 2016, only 32% of Americans
had a great deal, or fair amount, of trust that mass media would report news fully, accurately, and
fairly, an all time low.
Traditional media outlets are disliked and distrusted, and satirical presentations like Saturday Night
Live (SNL) have never been more popular, especially amongst young voters. For Americans under
30, these shows are now mentioned almost as frequently as newspapers and evening network news
shows as regular sources for election news. (Pew, 2004)

Parenthood the movie is filled with interpersonal communication in many different ways, from
relationships, to labels, internal obstacles, and even direct definition. The movie showed many
ways of interpersonal communication because of all the different people with in the family. Because
of how many people where in the family, they re where many different situations between different
characters that related to the book.
Gill and Patty s son Kevin seemed a little sad and shy in the movie. Kevin s teachers started to get

People define us by what we do and what they see. People in the Buckman family realize patty is
very intelligent for her age that she is a example of direct definition because of how everyone
else see s patty. Patty s father Nathan gives her positive direct definitions by telling her your
smart, and encouraging her in a positive way to learn all the time. Because of Nathan always
encouraging patty to learn her interpersonal communication is well rounded and intelligent. One
character that I identify with the most would probably be Larry Buckman. Beside Larry s bad
habits of gambling and not looking after kool, I related to him because he s independent. During
an argument between Larry and his father, Larry says he s not like gill just another number . He
was different, he wanted to stand out and work for himself, not just another number in a
business. I am my own boss, my brother and me opened a business because we are both like
Larry, wanting to work for ourselves and not being an employee and some office job. I also
related to Larry because I like to gamble, but not to the extent Larry does. I enjoy playing cards at
casinos and some small sports bets with friends, But not to the extent of betting thousands of
dollars on sports bets. The movie parenthood was an excellent movie to assign because of all the

Integrity In Cyrano De Bergerac
Integrity is the quality of being honorable; or having morals. In other words, having a code of
ethics. In Edmond Rostand s Cyrano de Bergerac, Cyrano is supposed to be the tragic hero; the
protagonist. This really fits his situation in the story because he truly tries to do the right thing
and honor his friend but makes one decision he will regret for the rest of his life. In the book,
Cyrano falls in love with Roxane, who falls in love with Christian. This love triangle will alter all
of them in ways they don t expect. At the end of the story, he dies without having a true
relationship with Roxane; yet, he claims that he still dies with his integrity. I believe that Cyrano
did not die with integrity, because he lied to Christian and Roxane even on his deathbed. While
Christian and Cyrano were fighting for their lives in battle, Cyrano continued to send letters to
Roxane, because he promised to make sure Christian would. By now, it is obvious to the readers
that Cyrano is in love with Roxane, but not to Christian. He is very oblivious to the whole situation
but eventually figures it all out. It should... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

letting Roxane believe Christian was the one writing her letters, when it was Cyrano the whole

with the wrong person, was very untruthful and inconsiderate. Never once, did he even seriously
consider that she might love him for his personality and that certain facial features had nothing to
do with it. He let her believe this for 15 years, until the truth finally came out. By then, it was too
late because he was dying. Cyrano let Roxane believe the man she loved was dead, but as a matter

V For Vendett Cinematic Techniques
Topic: How does the director use cinematic techniques to explore the themes of oppression, love
and freedom in the text V for Vendetta? Intro: The film V for Vendetta directed by James
McTeigue, follows a vigilante known as V who uses terrorist methods to attempt to bring down
London s autocratic government. McTeigue explores various themes, including oppression, love,
and freedom, furthermore, McTeigue discovers a range of cinematic techniques which consist of
camera angles, light, and colour. V for Vendetta is set to be in London, in the future in which the
government has total power over its citizens and keeps control through propaganda and force. Evey

McTeigue uses characterisation and cinematic techniques including camera angles, light and
music to convey this theme. The government uses oppression by establishing ridiculous laws
that force the people to fear the world without them. These laws include curfews, rethatching
free speech and getting tortured if they speak out. The media is also a way to control people
throughout their actions and behaviour, Fear is also instilled through the lies dispelled through
media sources that demonise undesirables such as Muslims, blacks and homosexuals. Example
when Chancellor Sutler uses the media for his own gain Lewis Prothero carries out orders of the
Chancellor . Chancellor Sutler is a character who is in control of the citizen s daily life in every
way. In addition camera angles are used to show his power within the state, example when
Chancellor Sutler is seen is the large in the screen, as the rest of his workers are seen small and
fearful, this symbolises that he has power over the people, by promoting the citizens to fear and
obey unlike using the media to convey his message across London as mind control . Chancellor
Sutler is message on the news becomes more unbelievable and contrived to the point where his
evil motives are obvious to the public. In the panning camera angle, when Chancellor Sutler was on
the screen the lighting was dark below him shows the public is no longer watching and that V s

Bailey, Beth. Sex in the Heartland. Cambridge, Massachusetts, and London, England: Harvard
University Press, 1999.
In the book Sex in the Heartland, the author Beth Bailey provides the reader with a distinct,
detailed, and informative read of the impact in which the sexual revolution had on American culture
during the 1960 s.This revolution took place in the town of Lawrence, Kansas, which Bailey
refers to as the heartland of America. As Bailey states in her introduction, Kansas is the
quintessential heartland state (4). The overall themes Bailey introduces are the dynamics of social
change, as well as sexual change. Bailey argues throughout the course of the book that there was
in fact, a sexual revolution. Reflecting of this change, Bailey writes, What were long term events
resulted in gradual trends (2). These events are what make up the sex revolution discussed
throughout Bailey s book. The purpose of Sex in the Heartland is to assess the ongoing change in
cultural normalcies, and the impact the sexual revolution had on university towns such as
Lawrence. Bailey encourages readers to gain a deeper understanding of what the revolution was in
the eyes of the 1960 s American society.
Throughout the book, Bailey argues that in cities around the country in the 1960 s, the ordinary
person battled the constant struggle of both private and public sexual behaviors, which came to
follow post WWII in America. Throughout the text, Bailey

The Doctor Of Nursing Practice ( Dnp ) Program

selecting the appropriate topic for my project. Dr. Spicer was very involved in choosing my

My initial problem was my capstone project # 3 on how can a charge nurse help patient s family

Computer Security and Data Encryption
DRM is a technology that protects digital content via encryption and the access control
mechanisms that allow a user to view the digital content. In general, to control what we can and
can t do with the media and hardware we ve purchased. 1.Historical perspective of DRM The
practices of copyright protection and DRM have been around since decades ago. In fact, when
the Altair BASIC was first introduced in 1975, the Homebrew Computer Club (a computer
hobbyists club) member made unauthorized copies of Altair basic software and distributed
them at the club meeting. At that time, MITS Company licensed the software from Micro soft
(now Microsoft). Although MITS has been selling thousand computers a month, Micro Soft
wasn t getting much royalty fees since basic copies have been distributed illegally. This led to
the famous open letter open letter to hobbyists by Bill Gates which he expressed his frustrations
towards the hobbyists. In the letter, he said As the majority of hobbyists must be aware, most of
you steal your software. Hardware must be paid for, but software is something to share. Who
cares if the people who worked on it get paid? Is this fair? But the first implementation of DRM
only came about in 1983 by Japanese Engineer Ryoichi Mori and it was implemented in Software
Service System (SSS) which is later redefined as Superdistribution. The main focus of SSS was to
protect the unauthorized copying by encryption. The SSS would include a

Hope In The American Red Cross
As discussed in my first essay, the virtue of hope is crucial for attaining any other virtue as well as
the inseparable part of human nature. However, sometimes a burden of harsh and unpredictable
circumstances causes the unfortunate to doubt hope. In that case, according to Mary
Wollstonecraft, others should disregard their ignorance and mistaken self interest to help the
unfortunate regain the essential virtue of hope (Wollstonecraft, 211). Furthermore, as Niccolo
Machiavelli emphasizes, when disregarding their self interest, the ones helping should not only
appear to be hopeful, but also demonstrate hope in their actions (Machiavelli, 203). But how is the
virtue of hope demonstrated to others? By looking at the work of Mary Wollstonecraft... Show more

Firstly, the Red Cross is tempted by the immorality since groups tend to be more immoral than
individuals as discussed by Martin Luther King (Dr. King, 274). To simplify, an individual who acts
immorally is the only one held accountable for his immorality. On the other hand, the organization s
responsibility for immoral actions is distributed among the members of the group, which means that
none of the individuals is exclusively responsible for the organization s actions, so none of the
members can be individually punished for immorality of the organization. Since partial
responsibility involves less accountability than total responsibility, individuals are more likely to be
immoral in a group than by themselves. Similarly, Henry David Thoreauexplains the same issue by
stating that a corporation has no conscience (Thoreau, 256). Therefore, like any other organization,
the American Red Cross has to fight against immorality of the group to manifest their purpose of
helping others. But how do they fight it? Thoreau explains that even though a corporation itself has
no conscience, its members do and a corporation of conscientious men is a corporation with a
conscience (Thoreau, 256). And the American Red Cross makes sure that all its members are
conscientious by incorporating the moral laws in the organization s fundamental

STRATEGIES FOR WORKING WITH AFRICAN AMERICANWOMEN
In counseling African American women, issues involving racial identity and conflict should be
explored. Counselors can help African American females counteract negative images associated
with being Black and being female; enhancing internal strength by developing pride and dignity in
Black womanhood can serve as a buffer to racism and sexism and can prevent the incorporation of
negative images into their own belief systems (Sue Sue, 2013, p. 374). Counselors should be aware
of the culture and familiar with the struggles and life events that have taken place for African
American females in order to relate, build rapport, and be helpful to them.
Family strategies for working with African American females include exploring the possibility of
extended or nontraditional family arrangements. Therefore, questions should be directed toward
clarifying who is living in the home and who helps out. Therapists/Counselors should work to
strengthen and increase functionality of the original family structure rather than attempt to change
it. One of the strengths of the

Affluenza Punishment
Heinous crimes need punishments. In our current judicial system, the wealth of defendants often
allows for lesser sentences for crimes. Be it because a real sentence will cause too much strain on
the criminal or because someone was not told no enough times as a kid, wealthy people are getting
off with little to no punishment. This epidemic is often referred to as affluenza, a disease of the
rich that makes them unable to understand the consequences of their behavior, but it is not in the
Diagnostic and Statistical Manual, the psychology book that lists all mental disorders, which pretty
much means that it is not real: it is a made up disease (Szalavitz). Affluenza is something people

Ethan Couch of 2013, the Texas teenager who drove drunk and killed four people and injured
nine others, the affluenza defense was finally named as such. Ethan Couch was sixteen in 2013,
the time of the incident. He was allowed to stay unsupervised at his parents second home with
his friends where he decided to steal beer and become highly intoxicated. Late into the festivities,
Ethan drove his seven friends to a convenience store very erratically, speeding up to 70 mph. He
wound up at the site of another accident when he lost control of his truck and wound up killing
four bystanders and causing paralysis to a passenger of his truck (Klass). When it came time for
the trial, he admitted guilt. However, he was not going to accept the consequences. His
powerhouse legal team called psychologist Dr. G Dick Miller to the stand where he used the
now famous term affluenza to explain why Couch did what he did. According to Miller, Couch
grew up in a wealthy lifestyle and had virtually no consequences for his actions and thus was not
expected to know that driving under the influence (and under age) was prohibited by law (Klass).
The prosecution for the case advocated that Couch serve 20 years in prison, which was admittedly
less than he deserved. However, he only received ten years probation and a court required stint in a
fancy rehabilitation center in California (Szalavitz). The judge gave him quite a lenient sentence
for killing four people. It would be hard to deny that the affluenza claim by the defense did not
somehow influence the sentencing, but either way, it is despicable. The Couch family had the best
lawyers for their son and that wealth spurred the claim that none of it was his fault. Couch got
away with killing four people simply because he was a wealthy teenager with fancy lawyers who
said that his parents were to blame and not him, even though he was the one

conception of America s growing economy. While the social stratification is an ideal ladder, for
the poor to middle classes to seek for economical growth to reach the top, the wealth class. There
s a misconception on how corporations are helping society s economic growth. While growing in

The Movie The Innocence Of Muslims
On September 11, 2012, there was an attack on the United States Embassy in Benghazi by Libyan
rebels in which four American were killed. This includes United States Ambassador Chris Stevens,
United States Diplomat Sean Smith, and two ex military members Tyrone Woods and Glen
Doherty, who were both Navy SEALs and had served in Iraq and Afghanistan. To prevent future
attacks on American Embassies and to prevent lives lost in those attacks, the United States
government needs to create a way to transport information more efficiently and to provide more

Who is to blame for the Benghazi incident? In the beginning, the United States government
blamed Nicoula Nicoula who the made the film The Innocence of Muslims. This film depicted

offensive to the Muslim people. It was later revealed by the American government that this film
was not the true cause of the Benghazi attack. The real cause was that the Libyan people were

their government and pushing to create peace in Libya. The people of Libya were especially upset
that foreign countries, especially the United States of America were remaining in Libya after they

Contiki Speech
Katrine Ornejas
Good morning everyone today I am going to talk to you about how Contiki was created and how
the company became a success. Contiki began from John s own desire to see Europe cheaply. He
is the man who was behind all the successes of Contiki and came up with the idea of this tour
company. To make this happen, there were guides that he went through to help establish this
tourism business. I will also talk to you about how he grows the business and make it a success and
of course the traps to watch out when running a business.
First of all, John Anderson was a 23 year old man who was born in New Zealand. He grew up with
his mum while his dad was in Europe. One day he went to Europe for a couple days and he just fell

One of the very important techniques that I learned on this book was the power of word of mouth.
Basically when a group young adults went for a trip, they makes sure that everyone will have an
awesome trip and when they came back they will tell their friends and relatives about their
experience. They will spread the word on how amazing the experience they had on the trip. They
will talk about what attractions they ve seen or where they went in Europe or what activities
they did. At this point, when other people heard about their great feedback for the trip, it will
give a huge interest to other people. For me personally, if my friend went to that trip and told me
that she had a really great time on the trip, I would definitely book on that trip too if I want to
travel. It will give me an interest and it shows that I can trust the company because they had a
really great customer feedback. Another thing is to treat the passenger s complaints seriously
no matter how big or small it is because you ll never know what could happen and it could
possibly affect the whole company. Make sure you identify and diffuse any issue before it
becomes a major. Because if you didn t solve the problem, it doesn t only affect the company but
also the customer s loyalty and trust which is very important for a business. When you make sure
that you satisfied their needs even though you made a mistake, you can solve it earlier or later
before it gets

The Angel Of Death Research Paper
The Angel of Death
The Nazi party rose to power in 1933 under the leadership of Adolf Hitler, and would soon
unleash a reign of terror and death upon Europe. However, Hitler was not directly responsible for
all of the terror to ensue; there were many Nazi followers and soldiers who committed unspeakable
crimes of war and other atrocious acts even as far as crimes against humanity. One such man was
Dr. Josef Mengele.
Mengele was born March 16th, 1911 in GГјnzburg, Germany. He received his Ph. D. in physical
anthropology in 1935, when he was 24 from the University of Munich. A few years later, in 1937
he was the assistant to Dr. Otmar von Vercheur who was famous for his research on twins. In
1945, Mengele fled Germany. He was caught by US soldiers who later released him, not realizing
who exactly he was. Mengele was never found alive again. It was said that after he escaped, he
befriended a Nazi supporter in Brazil named Wolfgang Gerhard, who hid Mengele for years and

It is hard to imagine someone able to do such horrible things to a person and be able to calmly
walk them to their deaths as if it was nothing. Like the Nazi system Mengele was able to let people
believe in a false sense of security, thinking they had the system, and Mengele s intentions figured
out while they were unknowingly being led to their demise.
Josef Mengele was a revered scholar and one of the most infamous members of the Nazi party
known of today, especially through the crimes against humanity he committed from his work with
experimentation and torture on twins and many others. In most pictures found of Mengele he is
showing off his gap toothed smile, but behind that smile is the terrible Angel of

The Cyscopy Procedures
Cystoscopy
Cystoscopy is a procedure that is used to help diagnose and sometimes treat conditions that affect
that lower urinary tract. The lower urinary tract includes the bladder and the tube that drains urine
from the bladder out of the body (urethra). Cystoscopy is performed with a thin, tube shaped
instrument with a light and camera at the end (cystoscope). The cystoscope may be hard (rigid) or
flexible, depending on the goal of the procedure. The cystoscope is inserted through the urethra,
into the bladder.
Cystoscopy may be recommended if you have:
Urinary tract infections that keep coming back (recurring).
Blood in the urine (hematuria).
Loss of bladder control (urinary incontinence) or an overactive bladder.

Weird Al Yankovic Research Paper
Weird Al Yankovic was a little late taking the stage on the BMO Harris Pavilion at Summerfest
on July 4th. Although he was just 15 minutes behind schedule, the lateness is more noticeable at
festivals considering the bigger acts tend to perform at the same time and most people try to
watch as many shows as possible. Nonetheless, Yankovic took the stage at 10:00pm and
ironically opened his set with Tacky. He definitely had a ton of loyal fans in the audience, and
so the energy in the building was at an all time high. Yankovic s career spans over 20 years, and
he did his best to cram all of his biggest hits into one set. His set also included Perform This Way,
Dare to Be Stupid, Fat, and First World Problems. The majority of his setlist included songs from
his Mandatory Fun album, which was dropped last year. The album features parodies of songs
by Pharrell Williams, Iggy Azalea, Robin Thicke, and Lorde. Yankovic performed Lame Claim to
Fame, Foil (Lorde s Royals ) and Word Crimes (Robin Thicke s Blurred Lines ). It wouldn t be a

his most successful songs including Smells Like Nirvana, Party in the CIA, It s All About the
Pentiums, Eat It, Like a Surgeon, and Another One Rides the Bus. Before closing his set,
Yankovic also performed his parody of Chamillionaire s Ridin, which is famously named White

Coolio s Gangsta s Paradise. The last song of his set was Yoda (The Kinks Lola ), which is from his

Compare And Contrast The Hammurabi Code And The Ten...
Hammurabi s Code Vs. the 10 Commandments Have you ever thought of how and what made
everyone want to follow the law nowadays? Hammurabi s code and the Ten Commandments were
two early (not the earliest) codes of law that were used in the ancient times as methods of justice,
both of the laws shaped society then and now. Hammurabi s code goes back to ancient
Mesopotamian culture that flourished way before the Bible was written or the Greek and the
Roman civilizations had even developed. Hammurabi made a collection of 282 laws that
established values of manner and justice for keeping order in his kingdom. God engraved the Ten
Commandments on stone tablets that were given to Moses and the population of Israel. Even
though the code and the commandments... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hammurabi s code influenced the people of his kingdom greatly, he set valuable legitimate
standards that have lasted to this day. Not only did this code set standards but it also includes a
modern day take of court and justice procedures. The Ten Commandment shaped people s belief
not only for Christians, it also shaped morality in all cultures and religions. Because of the two
laws/codes, civilizations learnt what was right and what was wrong; the two laws influenced
them to do the same. What would happen if one disobeyed the rules? It would count as a sin or
be punished, which is also the way legal judiciaries do, however the punishments are not so
brutal. Why? Because people have learnt how to be wise with the decisions they make,
civilizations have gotten a moral sense because of these laws. In addition to the last point stated,
the two laws give a basic and complex legal code that defends the innocent, punishes the guilty, it
establishes a right to own and regulate private land, allows for self defense, enforces the law to
treat people with respect etc. All of the laws stated above apply to modern day society and culture,
especially in judicial

Hunger Games versus The Lottery Essay
The Lottery (Jackson, pg 163 170) and The Hunger Games (Collins, 2008) are both popular
pieces of seemingly like, popular literature. Rituals and rules come into play strongly in both
stories. In comparing The Lottery (Jackson, pg 163 170) and The Hunger Games (Collins, 2008) I
find that both stories focus strongly on their annual rituals of sacrifice with a scapegoat. The Lottery
(Jackson, pg 163 170) and The Hunger Games (Collins, 2008) have a ceremony, a formal event that
brings the town or district together while having no real significance. Both stories also include
similar rules, such as the rule that all people living in the town or district must attend the day that
the person is chosen.

The family whos head of household gets the black dot will then have each member of the family
draw yet again. The person that draws the black dot this time will be the sacrifice. The main
difference between the rituals in The Hunger Games (Collins, 2008) and The Lottery (Jackson,
pg 163 170) is the event that actually takes place when the person is decided upon. In The
Hunger Games (Collins, 2008) the tributes are made to fight to the death, with the possibility of
living. In The Lottery the person is stoned to death, having no chance of living through it. Both
stories deal with a scapegoat ritual. A scapegoat is one that bears the blame for others. (Merriam
Webster, definition 2) In The Hunger Games (Collins, 2008) sixteen year old Katniss Everdeen is
the scapegoat after she volunteers to take the place of her younger sister Primrose Everdeen. In
The Lottery Tessie Hutchinson is the scapegoat when she draws the paper with the black dot on it.
The characters from the stories are being faced with death for something that they did not do, but
rather their town or district did, or thinks is necessary.
A ceremony is a formal act or event that is a part of a social or religious occasion. (Merriam
Webster, definition 1) as well a ceremony is an action performed only formally with no deep
significance. (Merriam Webster, definition 2b). Both of the definitions are clearly represented in
The Lottery (Jackson, pg 163 170) and The

Animal Trainer
Animal Trainer My career for our first career cluster is Animal Trainer. An animal trainer is in
general a person who teachers animals specific responses to specific conditions or stimuli, which
may be for the purpose of companionship, detection, protection, entertainment, etc. In addition
animal trainers do all the dirty work like take care of the animalsas in clean, feed, etc. I chose
animal trainer for a few reasons. Based off of my personality tests and such, it seemed like the
perfect match as a job. It s definitely not a job I d prefer for this project or my career but for this
cluster it s the best choice I have. For education animal trainers often need just a high school
diploma or GED equivalent. Some require a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For animal trainers hours are very irregular. Often weekend and holiday shifts. Some are on duty
24 hours a day. For vacation time, that isn t blatantly specified, but based on the facts I know
already unless a person is off on the holiday shifts it seems like animal trainers don t get much of
a vacation. Salaries for this job are significantly low at around a max of $31,590 a year. Average
salaries are between 16k and 24k. Physical and emotional stress is big in this job. All of the
hours worked caretaking for animals, lifting, cleaning; the skills needed basically, can really
take a toll on someone in this job. Usually the people that work in this field are veterinarians,
animal control, other animal helpers, etc. and they are usually animal lovers. I personally am
not an animal lover but I like to have a dog or pet. You re evaluated by your peer employees and
the employees above you or at a higher authority such as the manager of the establishment. To
me there aren t many advantages to this job besides it works with animals and it s an easy job to
be hired at. The disadvantages are numerous. The hours worked, the time not spent with family,
the amount of pain possibly involved and with all of that hard work, not very much in return
with a very low salary. If I chose to apply for this job it could definitely help me in the long run if I
play my cards right. The more I work as an animal trainer the more I am recognized and could

Analysis Of How A Woman Can Get Hurt By Jean Kilbourne
Two Ways a Woman Can Get Hurt , an article by Jean Kilbourne bitterly rags on sex in
advertisement. It goes into detail to describe how companies have become increasingly more
likely to sell sex in advertisements for products that, in reality, are entirely unrelated. Kilbourne
focuses primarily on how this is harmful to society especially women and children and how they
are viewed by men, though men may also be targeted if not nearly as frequently. In a similar article
called Taking a Bite Out of Twilight, Carmen D. Siering shares her disapproval of the popular
novel adored by so many: Twilight. Represented by the iconic red apple held in a women s palm
with a sinister black backdrop, Twilight is a modern fairytale where the prince belongs to a
monstrous society of blood sucking models, and the princess is your average, plain Jane
highschool girl with a knack for getting into trouble. Siering s opinion is most basically this:
Bella is objectified and downgraded in the Twilight series; a character created solely to
compliment the plot propelled by male characters. Where the majority of the population sees an
aching, beautiful and dangerous romance, Siering sees a controlling relationship and a dull female
lead. Kilbourne s article brings to light how Siering s article, directed at Stephenie Meyers readers,
is so accurate with the the recommendation that everyone become more aware of the messages
they are absorbing from media as it snakes its way into society s

Licenses in The Networked Information Economy Essay examples
Free and open source software has become an integral part of the modern internet age. As a result
of the threat posed by copyright laws sponsored by proprietary software companies, the free
software community has developed many software licenses to combat copyright and protect the
developer. Many open source licenses have ben used by developers to release their programs to the
community. Some of the most popular licenses are the Apache License, the GNU General Public
License(GPL), and the GNU Lesser General Public License (LGPL). Each of these licenses gives
different rights for the licensor and the user of the license. Each license also has implications on the
availability of the code to the future developer community. The GPL more... Show more content on
Helpwriting.net ...
The LGPL is a less restrictive copyleft license based, for the most part, on the GPL. One main
difference between the two licenses is the fact that the LGPL allows the use of its licensed libraries
to be used in proprietary software as well as free software (Free Software Foundation, n.d.).
Programs that are licensed under the GPL include the Qt application development system, the
RhythmBox music player, and the Blender 3d modeling program. Programs licensed under the
GPL have a wide developer base and a wide variety of improvements because anyone can access
the source code and release changes to the community.
The Apache Software License was developed by the Apache Software Foundation as an
alternative to the restrictions of the GPL. The Apache License is a much less restrictive license
than the GPL or the LGPL. The main difference between the two licenses is that code under the
Apache License can be used in a proprietary program (Wilson, 2005a). Another difference in the
Apace License is the fact that users of programs licensed under the Apache License do not have to
contribute their changes back to the community, as with the GPL (Metz, 2012). Aside from the
Apache web server, Google s Android Operating System and Hadoop a networked data processing
program are licensed under the Apache License (Metz, 2012). Some proprietary software

  • 2. Feudalism And The Code Of Chivalry The act of Feudalism and The Code of Chivalry both arose sometime during the medieval time period. Feudalism was said to be based on the exchange of land for military service ( Feudalism ). This meant the King would reward those who were loyal to him and fought during battle with land. Life lived under the Medieval Feudal System, or Feudalism, demanded that everyone owed allegiance to the King and their immediate superior ( Feudalism ). This lead to the creation of The Feudalism Pyramid, which changed England s society. The Feudalism Pyramid segregated and ranked individuals based on the amount of power one obtained. • 3. Analysis of Three Books About Gorbachev Essay Analysis of Three Books About Gorbachev The history of the Soviet Union is complicated and fascinating. In the course of only seventy years this country has seen the development of the totally new system of state, economic growth, the growth of hopes for the brighter future , and then the sudden and expected by no one collapse of the whole system leading to chaos, wars, and confusion. One period is especially important in order to realize how did things finally started to change after the seventy years of blindly pursuing the dream of communism which left the Soviet Union in a very bad economical and moral state, and this period is called perestroika, Russian for restructuring. The main figure behind this process which began in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This influence lasted for years and the fact that Gorbachev has become westernized in his appearance, manners, dress and the image he projects of tolerance and cordial behavior, all the small signs which mark him as different from the usual Komsomol and Party boss , is according to Medvedev due to a great extent to the fact that Mlynar was Gorbachev s roommate (Medvedev, 1986, p. 43). Although the first part of the book is certainly interesting and important I would like to concentrate on the second part of the book since it is directly deals with the subject that interests me most, that is the years when Gorbachev was in power and the development of the new course in the Soviet life called perestroika. From just reading the first paragraph it is obvious that the author approves of the new leader. Medvedev writes: For the first time in Soviet history, the leadership succession has meant more than the arrival of a new leader and the possibility of the implementation of the new policies. The Gorbachev succession marks the appearance of a new political generation which differs from the old guard in style, knowledge and historical vision....Gorbachev represents a younger post war political generation, a generation which started its professional Party or state career during the more liberal Krushchev era (p. 165). • 4. Mark David Chapman Analysis Furthermore the authenticity of the novel is what draws a dedicated audience to it, because not only are the themes universal, but they are expressed in an equally odd and captivating way. This makes the messages in the work memorable, but the factor that really pulls the story together and catapulted it to fame is it does not give the reader the impression that the author is overtly trying to be unique or impressive. The casual tone in which the story is told gives an air of familiar transparency, allowing the reader to have a connection and relationship with Holden Caulfield as they both struggle with the seemingly impossible questions of life. This seems to be the case with many people who have an unhealthy and compulsive connection to the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On first glance there does not seem to be a clear ending or resolution, but when looking further it becomes clear that Holden finally begins the process of self discovery. He is getting the help he needs from loved ones, reflecting on things prior he refused to acknowledge, and seeing a psychoanalyst, all being indicative of the beginnings of self discovery he has been desperately avoiding for the majority of the work. At the same time his general cynicism of the world lingers as seen in the ending line, but it is countered by the acknowledgement that he misses people and has affectionate connection to those he distanced himself from Don t ever tell anybody anything. If you do, you start missing everybody. (Salinger 214) These men who committed these crimes appeared to have a hard time accepting the abrupt ending of a narrative they so deeply connected with, so in the case of Mark David Chapman he took the story into his own hands becoming Holden and making sure what Holden strives for lives on in reality. Do stock option plans for unionized companies perform better than for non unionized companies? This question will be answered by a study authored by representatives of Rutgers University and New York Institute of Technology. Do the proposed union rules by The National Labor Relations Board and the Department of Labor help workers and support job creation? Two major components of the proposed legislation are snap elections and the formation of micro unions. According to James Sherk of the Heritage Foundation, these measures would undermine employees rights and discourage job creation. Data from a Hearing before... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Results on worker retention suggest unions decrease turnover among lower productivity workers, but increase it among higher productivity workers (Frandsen, 2010). Another way to retain top talent is to offer stock options. An analysis of 229 companies found that only 5.5 percent of the companies with unions have broad based stock options, while 12 percent of the non union companies did (Performance Effects of Options in New Economy and Unionized Companies, 2011). The study also found that unionized stock option companies improved productivity relative to non stock option companies, but that compared to non union stock option companies, the unionized companies did somewhat worse. Snap Elections and Micro Unions The NRLB proposes to shrink the time frame for union elections to between 10 and 21 days. The current time frame is between 38 and 60 days (Sherk, 2011). Such snap elections would short circuit the time employers have to make their case, and they would make decisions based mainly on information received from the union. Snap elections would not serve workers well because union organizers do not impartially advocate workers best interests. They are salesmen who are paid to persuade workers to become dues paying union members (Sherk, 2011) and they may use many misleading, but legal, tactics to win worker support. Due in part to the ability to over extend themselves they were maxed out in their credit to debt ratios, struggling just to make ends meet. Thankfully, with the downfall they experienced, these foreclosure and short sell victims have finally been able to bounce back. The legalization of marijuana, for some, is not something to take lightly, but I do not think it is the worst drug. In my own opinion heroin and cocaine are two drugs that should not be legal because of the harmful effects they cause. Marijuana, in my own opinion is the lesser of the two evils, so if states and countries want to legalize it, they can do what they please. Now I know some people would disagree with me on this, but everyone is entitled to their own opinions. I would rather see marijuana legalized then heroin or cocaine. A 2004 study done by Pew research found that 20% of Americans between the ages of 18 to 24 regularly get their news from late night television shows, like Saturday Night Live. With satirical outlets as a legitimate and consistent source of information, their representation of politicians becomes a crucial part of how that politician is perceived by the general electorate. Political satire is certainly not a new concept, but its emergence as a viable news source has come as a result of our polarized political climate, and intertwinement of news with the entertainment industry. According to a poll conducted by Gallup in September of 2016, only 32% of Americans had a great deal, or fair amount, of trust that mass media would report news fully, accurately, and fairly, an all time low. Traditional media outlets are disliked and distrusted, and satirical presentations like Saturday Night Live (SNL) have never been more popular, especially amongst young voters. For Americans under 30, these shows are now mentioned almost as frequently as newspapers and evening network news shows as regular sources for election news. In Edmond Rostand s Cyrano de Bergerac, Cyrano is supposed to be the tragic hero; the protagonist. This really fits his situation in the story because he truly tries to do the right thing and honor his friend but makes one decision he will regret for the rest of his life. In the book, Cyrano falls in love with Roxane, who falls in love with Christian. This love triangle will alter all of them in ways they don t expect. At the end of the story, he dies without having a true relationship with Roxane; yet, he claims that he still dies with his integrity. I believe that Cyrano did not die with integrity, because he lied to Christian and Roxane even on his deathbed. While Christian and Cyrano were fighting for their lives in battle, Cyrano continued to send letters to Roxane, because he promised to make sure Christian would. The media is also a way to control people throughout their actions and behaviour, Fear is also instilled through the lies dispelled through media sources that demonise undesirables such as Muslims, blacks and homosexuals. In general, to control what we can and can t do with the media and hardware we ve purchased. 1.Historical perspective of DRM The practices of copyright protection and DRM have been around since decades ago. In fact, when the Altair BASIC was first introduced in 1975, the Homebrew Computer Club (a computer hobbyists club) member made unauthorized copies of Altair basic software and distributed them at the club meeting. At that time, MITS Company licensed the software from Micro soft (now Microsoft). Although MITS has been selling thousand computers a month, Micro Soft wasn t getting much royalty fees since basic copies have been distributed illegally. This led to the famous open letter open letter to hobbyists by Bill Gates which he expressed his frustrations towards the hobbyists. In the letter, he said As the majority of hobbyists must be aware, most of you steal your software. Hardware must be paid for, but software is something to share. Who cares if the people who worked on it get paid? Is this fair? But the first implementation of DRM only came about in 1983 by Japanese Engineer Ryoichi Mori and it was implemented in Software Service System (SSS) which is later redefined as Superdistribution. The main focus of SSS was to protect the unauthorized copying by encryption. The SSS would include a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Hope In The American Red Cross As discussed in my first essay, the virtue of hope is crucial for attaining any other virtue as well as the inseparable part of human nature. However, sometimes a burden of harsh and unpredictable circumstances causes the unfortunate to doubt hope. In that case, according to Mary Wollstonecraft, others should disregard their ignorance and mistaken self interest to help the unfortunate regain the essential virtue of hope (Wollstonecraft, 211). Furthermore, as Niccolo Machiavelli emphasizes, when disregarding their self interest, the ones helping should not only appear to be hopeful, but also demonstrate hope in their actions (Machiavelli, 203). But how is the virtue of hope demonstrated to others? By looking at the work of Mary Wollstonecraft... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Firstly, the Red Cross is tempted by the immorality since groups tend to be more immoral than individuals as discussed by Martin Luther King (Dr. King, 274). To simplify, an individual who acts immorally is the only one held accountable for his immorality. On the other hand, the organization s responsibility for immoral actions is distributed among the members of the group, which means that none of the individuals is exclusively responsible for the organization s actions, so none of the members can be individually punished for immorality of the organization. Since partial responsibility involves less accountability than total responsibility, individuals are more likely to be immoral in a group than by themselves. Similarly, Henry David Thoreauexplains the same issue by stating that a corporation has no conscience (Thoreau, 256). Therefore, like any other organization, the American Red Cross has to fight against immorality of the group to manifest their purpose of helping others. But how do they fight it? Thoreau explains that even though a corporation itself has no conscience, its members do and a corporation of conscientious men is a corporation with a conscience (Thoreau, 256). Late into the festivities, Ethan drove his seven friends to a convenience store very erratically, speeding up to 70 mph. He wound up at the site of another accident when he lost control of his truck and wound up killing four bystanders and causing paralysis to a passenger of his truck (Klass). When it came time for the trial, he admitted guilt. However, he was not going to accept the consequences. His powerhouse legal team called psychologist Dr. G Dick Miller to the stand where he used the now famous term affluenza to explain why Couch did what he did. According to Miller, Couch grew up in a wealthy lifestyle and had virtually no consequences for his actions and thus was not expected to know that driving under the influence (and under age) was prohibited by law (Klass). The prosecution for the case advocated that Couch serve 20 years in prison, which was admittedly less than he deserved. However, he only received ten years probation and a court required stint in a fancy rehabilitation center in California (Szalavitz). The judge gave him quite a lenient sentence for killing four people. It would be hard to deny that the affluenza claim by the defense did not somehow influence the sentencing, but either way, it is despicable. The Couch family had the best lawyers for their son and that wealth spurred the claim that none of it was his fault. • 41. Contiki Speech Katrine Ornejas Good morning everyone today I am going to talk to you about how Contiki was created and how the company became a success. Contiki began from John s own desire to see Europe cheaply. He is the man who was behind all the successes of Contiki and came up with the idea of this tour company. To make this happen, there were guides that he went through to help establish this tourism business. I will also talk to you about how he grows the business and make it a success and of course the traps to watch out when running a business. First of all, John Anderson was a 23 year old man who was born in New Zealand. He grew up with his mum while his dad was in Europe. One day he went to Europe for a couple days and he just fell in love in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the very important techniques that I learned on this book was the power of word of mouth. Basically when a group young adults went for a trip, they makes sure that everyone will have an awesome trip and when they came back they will tell their friends and relatives about their experience. They will spread the word on how amazing the experience they had on the trip. They will talk about what attractions they ve seen or where they went in Europe or what activities they did. At this point, when other people heard about their great feedback for the trip, it will give a huge interest to other people. For me personally, if my friend went to that trip and told me that she had a really great time on the trip, I would definitely book on that trip too if I want to travel. It will give me an interest and it shows that I can trust the company because they had a really great customer feedback. Another thing is to treat the passenger s complaints seriously no matter how big or small it is because you ll never know what could happen and it could possibly affect the whole company. Make sure you identify and diffuse any issue before it becomes a major. Because if you didn t solve the problem, it doesn t only affect the company but also the customer s loyalty and trust which is very important for a business. When you make sure that you satisfied their needs even though you made a mistake, you can solve it earlier or later before it gets ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, Hitler was not directly responsible for all of the terror to ensue; there were many Nazi followers and soldiers who committed unspeakable crimes of war and other atrocious acts even as far as crimes against humanity. One such man was Dr. Josef Mengele. Mengele was born March 16th, 1911 in GГјnzburg, Germany. He received his Ph. D. in physical anthropology in 1935, when he was 24 from the University of Munich. A few years later, in 1937 he was the assistant to Dr. Otmar von Vercheur who was famous for his research on twins. In 1945, Mengele fled Germany. He was caught by US soldiers who later released him, not realizing who exactly he was. Mengele was never found alive again. Although he was just 15 minutes behind schedule, the lateness is more noticeable at festivals considering the bigger acts tend to perform at the same time and most people try to watch as many shows as possible. Hammurabi s code and the Ten Commandments were two early (not the earliest) codes of law that were used in the ancient times as methods of justice, both of the laws shaped society then and now. Hammurabi s code goes back to ancient Mesopotamian culture that flourished way before the Bible was written or the Greek and the Roman civilizations had even developed. Hammurabi made a collection of 282 laws that established values of manner and justice for keeping order in his kingdom. God engraved the Ten Commandments on stone tablets that were given to Moses and the population of Israel. Even though the code and the commandments... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hammurabi s code influenced the people of his kingdom greatly, he set valuable legitimate standards that have lasted to this day. Not only did this code set standards but it also includes a modern day take of court and justice procedures. The Ten Commandment shaped people s belief not only for Christians, it also shaped morality in all cultures and religions. Because of the two laws/codes, civilizations learnt what was right and what was wrong; the two laws influenced them to do the same. What would happen if one disobeyed the rules? It would count as a sin or be punished, which is also the way legal judiciaries do, however the punishments are not so brutal. Why? Because people have learnt how to be wise with the decisions they make, civilizations have gotten a moral sense because of these laws. In addition to the last point stated, the two laws give a basic and complex legal code that defends the innocent, punishes the guilty, it establishes a right to own and regulate private land, allows for self defense, enforces the law to treat people with respect etc. All of the laws stated above apply to modern day society and culture, especially in judicial ... Rituals and rules come into play strongly in both stories. In comparing The Lottery (Jackson, pg 163 170) and The Hunger Games (Collins, 2008) I find that both stories focus strongly on their annual rituals of sacrifice with a scapegoat. The Lottery (Jackson, pg 163 170) and The Hunger Games (Collins, 2008) have a ceremony, a formal event that brings the town or district together while having no real significance. The person that draws the black dot this time will be the sacrifice. The main difference between the rituals in The Hunger Games (Collins, 2008) and The Lottery (Jackson, pg 163 170) is the event that actually takes place when the person is decided upon. In The Hunger Games (Collins, 2008) the tributes are made to fight to the death, with the possibility of living. In The Lottery the person is stoned to death, having no chance of living through it. Both stories deal with a scapegoat ritual. A scapegoat is one that bears the blame for others. (Merriam Webster, definition 2) In The Hunger Games (Collins, 2008) sixteen year old Katniss Everdeen is the scapegoat after she volunteers to take the place of her younger sister Primrose Everdeen. In The Lottery Tessie Hutchinson is the scapegoat when she draws the paper with the black dot on it. The characters from the stories are being faced with death for something that they did not do, but rather their town or district did, or thinks is necessary. A ceremony is a formal act or event that is a part of a social or religious occasion. (Merriam Webster, definition 1) as well a ceremony is an action performed only formally with no deep significance. (Merriam Webster, definition 2b). It goes into detail to describe how companies have become increasingly more likely to sell sex in advertisements for products that, in reality, are entirely unrelated. Kilbourne focuses primarily on how this is harmful to society especially women and children and how they are viewed by men, though men may also be targeted if not nearly as frequently. In a similar article called Taking a Bite Out of Twilight, Carmen D. Siering shares her disapproval of the popular novel adored by so many: Twilight. Represented by the iconic red apple held in a women s palm with a sinister black backdrop, Twilight is a modern fairytale where the prince belongs to a monstrous society of blood sucking models, and the princess is your average, plain Jane highschool girl with a knack for getting into trouble. Siering s opinion is most basically this: Bella is objectified and downgraded in the Twilight series; a character created solely to compliment the plot propelled by male characters. Where the majority of the population sees an aching, beautiful and dangerous romance, Siering sees a controlling relationship and a dull female lead. Kilbourne s article brings to light how Siering s article, directed at Stephenie Meyers readers, is so accurate with the the recommendation that everyone become more aware of the messages they are absorbing from media as it snakes its way into society s ... As a result of the threat posed by copyright laws sponsored by proprietary software companies, the free software community has developed many software licenses to combat copyright and protect the developer. Many open source licenses have ben used by developers to release their programs to the community. Some of the most popular licenses are the Apache License, the GNU General Public License(GPL), and the GNU Lesser General Public License (LGPL). One main difference between the two licenses is the fact that the LGPL allows the use of its licensed libraries to be used in proprietary software as well as free software (Free Software Foundation, n.d.). Programs that are licensed under the GPL include the Qt application development system, the RhythmBox music player, and the Blender 3d modeling program.
