Pros And Cons Of Global Corruption
Global Corruption
Corruption can be defined as the abuse of entrusted power for private gain. It can be classified as
grand, petty and political, depending on the amounts of money lost and the sector where it occurs.
Bribery, extortion and embezzlement are the three principle versions of corruption. For instance,
an employee of a firm who is in charge of purchasing functions takes some amount of money from
a supplier (bribery), in which that same employee ensures the payment for the products to be above
the usual price. Then the residuary amount between the actual price and the turgid price after
bribery would get siphoned off by the employee and the supplier (embezzlement). If it s the case of
political corruption, an exemplifying scenario can be, some government officials use their positions
to extort payments from some government regulated firms. Expectably, economic corruption
impairs development and political corruption depraves prospering governance. Unfortunately, both
of these types of corruption continuously persist all around the world .
Every year, Transparency Internationalpublishes a Global Corruption Index analyzing each country
s projected corruption predicated on the scope of bribery, illegitimate government expenditures and
absence of anti corruption regulations . For the last few decades, some countries have been
continuously occupying the end of the list together. By the end of last year, the top three most
corrupted countries were Afghanistan, Somalia and North Korea. Almost all of Afghanistan s
widespread corruption is connected to misuse of aid money that was provided to the country by
international entities. The Afghan government in 2012 promised to put efforts to diminish the
problem, however because of the fact that public officials are the largest beneficiaries from
corruption, there is not much of significant improvements has been made towards corruption
reduction . Somalia has experienced similar issues as well. One of the World Bank reports showed
that within the matter of 2 years, the aid money that Somalia received which is around $130
million . Furthermore, Somalia s private companies have been reportedly paying certain fees to the
government officials in exchange of

Salt River Labs Case Study Essay
Salt River Labs
Q What is the major problem at SRL? Who are the people involved and how do they contribute to
the problem?
1. There are many problems that are apparent at Salt River Labs. The first major problem is the
purchasing process. There are way too many people involved in this process. The current process
involves series of five different people, or groups of people. This starts with the Chemists who send
requisitions to supervisors, who send the requisition to Suzie Martinez, who sends the same
requisition to Barbara, who finally sends the requisition to Arthur who makes the final decision
about the requisition. Once a decision to approve or disapprove the requisition has been made, the
requisition gets sent to Paul ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All of these trust/hostility issues are caused by a lack of communication among the entire
organization. Communication is the root of many of the problems at this company. Equipment
breakage is a very pertinent problem as well. Equipment continuously breaks and SRL does not
have the money or the resources necessary to fix the broken machines. The machine that has been
fixed already has not been picked up from Hewlett Packard because of the fact that SRL does not
have the money to do so. So, SRL has a fixed machine that they cannot use because of the debt the
company is undergoing. Another problem that is apparent at Salt River Labs is the inventory
situation. Ever since SRL moved from their old building to the new building, the inventory has
been left in the boxes they were transferred in. Nothing has been unloaded which is leading to the
problem of not knowing exactly what is in house. This inventory issue affects Arthur s opinion
on the chemists because he doesn t think that the chemists thoroughly search for the materials
they need before ordering more. All of the problems listed above are causing late orders, and if
orders are late or even non existent, then the company will eventually go out of business. Lastly,
Arthur needs to provide a financial analysis that explains where money has been coming from and
going to for the past 5 years. He has to have some type of budget plan, and if he is unable to
provide an accurate one for the company then

Reimbursement In Physical Therapy
A smooth process of reimbursement is an integral part of our professional growth. Physical therapy
profession is going through a tough time facing more regulations and scrutiny from
Medicare and other insurance agencies. Apart from advocating healthcare policy changes including
Medicare therapy gap issues, physical therapists should also get prepared to bring in excellent
reputation in the healthcare sector by adhering to the level of outstanding compliance which will
eventually lead to decrease in claim denials and reviews. An article written by Eric Ries, addressing
the biggest threat to physical therapy (2014), emphasized the importance of the better compliance
physical therapists should possess to reduce the payment cuts. This article covered significant ...

For example, Payment and Practice Challenges Survey conducted by APTA in 2013 revealed that
the majority of physical therapists are concerned with reimbursement issues and increasing financial
regulations and not bothered about potential circumstances contusive for fraudulent and abusive
activities in terms of reimbursement. The amount of continuous education hours completed by
physical therapists in documentation training is very less compared to the time spend on acquiring
intervention skills. This makes the situation more vulnerable for physical therapists in making
incorrect decisions and errors in coding and documentation which will have a negative impact on
the total reimbursement of the services provided. Error free documentation is very vital in bringing
down the claim denials and review audits. According to Institute of Medicine (2012), America
healthcare system incurs nearly $800 billion annually due to fraud and abuse of the system.
Physical therapists can play a major role in curbing the costs subjected to fraud and abuse by

Essay Frank McCourts Angelas Ashes
Frank McCourts Angelas Ashes Frank McCourt s Angela s Ashes is a powerful and emotional
memoir of his life from childhood through early adulthood. This book is a wonderfully inspired
piece of work that emotionally attaches the reader through McCourt s life experiences. Its
effectiveness is primarily due to McCourts evolving innocent eye narrative technique. He allows the
reader to experience his own lifein a changeable form. Through this unique story telling technique,
the reader is able to watch Frank grow and evolve. Between the ages of four, eleven and fourteen
changes in his writing can be easily identified. It is evident that the written text, McCourt s
thoughts, and the resultant relationship with the reader evolve and... Show more content on

For instance, he refers to his family standing in the kitchen as big people (106). He is easily
confused and does not understand complex concepts: ...He can have Malachy and the twins for
brothers. He can t have Margaret anymore because she s like the dog in the street that was taken
away. I don t know why she was taken away (43). Concepts such as death and religion are
especially difficult for a child to understand. Mam tells us, That s the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and I
want to know why the man s heart is on fire and why doesn t He throw water on it? (67).
A unique relationship forms between the author and the reader through McCourt s effective show
and tell narrative method. This gives the reader more involvement and greater emotional
attachment. During the first part of this book, he shows the reader, through innocent
misunderstandings, that interpretation is needed in order to fully understand the context:
Sometimes he [Mr. Leibowitz] speaks to Mrs. Leibowitz and I don t understand because strange
sounds come from his mouth. Freddie understands...smiles back and makes the strange sounds (38).
Here the reader knows that the strange sounds are the Leibowitz s speaking another language. Frank
does not understand that there are different languages that people speak other than just English, but
the mature reader is informed.

Major Depressive Disorder Essay
Major Depressive Disorder or MDD is a very common clinical condition that affects millions of
people every year. According to the Agency for Health Care Policy Research, depression is under
diagnosed untreated by most medical doctors, despite the fact that it can almost always be treated
successfully.
According to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition (DSM IV);
A person who suffers from this disorder must have a depressed mood, or have lost interest in things
that would have normally brought them pleasure; for a minimum of two weeks. This must be
different then the person s normal behaviors, and it may not be caused by a general medical
condition. (American Psychiatric Association, 1994) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If left untreated the end result could have an even more devastating effect. Luckily, there are
treatments available that are successful. The first step to treatment should be a complete physical
by a doctor, so that any medical condition is ruled out as the cause of depression. Then, the
physician can start to focus on the causes and treatments available. The treatments for depression
can be antidepressants, psychotherapy, or a combination of both.
Treatments using anti depressants is well documented, but there are very few studies documenting
only the use of psychotherapy. However, in one study done using the CognitiveВ–behavioral
analysis system of psychotherapy (CBASP) as a maintenance treatment, the overall findings show
that psychotherapy in itself can be successful. There were 82 patients who were treated with
CBASP long term. Patients were chosen at random to reduce their treatment to monthly or to an
observational status. The patients, only treated monthly with CBASP, showed a smaller amount of
reoccurring symptoms then the patients in the observational status. These findings support the use
of only CBASP as a maintenance treatment for depression. (Klein, 2004)
Psychotherapy itself comes in many forms, and is based on many different psychological models.
Adlerian therapy on the growth model, Gestalt therapy integrates the body and

whether or not he was a leader or just some local hero. Little is known about the possible figure that

The Geography Of Chicken Soup
The focus of this assignment is on the geography of chicken soup. For purposes of this particular
assignment, the claimed country of origin in Cuba. The reason the term claimed is used is due to
the fact that this particular dish may be believed to have originated in many other countries as
well. As such, the recipe, and more specifically the ingredients used, will most likely differ based
upon the country and region that it is originated from. With regard to the Cuban version of chicken
soup, the same is comprised of thirteen (13) ingredients, to wit: olive (oil); onion (red and green);
cilantro; cumin (ground); wheat (flour); chicken (stock and thigh); cassava; calabash; potato (red);
plantain; lemon (juice); salt; and, pepper. Notwithstanding the fact that these ingredients are
customarily used to make the Cuban version of chicken soup, these same ingredients were not all
domesticated in the region that Cuba is located in. For example, Cuba is located in the Caribbean
region. Out of the thirteen (13) ingredients mentioned, only one ingredient is native to said region
calabash. Furthermore, as the case with other Caribbean countries, calabash is said to be native and
common in the wild in Cuba, Puerto Rico, [and] the Dominican Republic.... (Morton, 1987, p. 334

The Thus Spoke Zarathustra By The Nineteenth Century
In the Thus Spoke Zarathustra , written by the 19th century philosopher Nietzsche, we are
presented with many sermons that are structure similar to parables from the Lutheran Bible. These
sermons are given to us by the main character, Zarathustra, on our quest to find the overman
(ubermench). Zarathustra uses many characters to present stories about the flaws of humanity and
how we are to get better. In Thus Spoke Zarathustra, Zarathustra uses the character of an ass
(donkey) that was first presented to us through the sermon of Talking to the kings and plays a
major role in the later novel. The Ass is used as an idol that many of Zarathustra s guests praise as
a God. The utilization of the Ass as an idol of worship is Nietzsche s criticism on how Christians
worship their God. In the sermon of Talking to two kings , Zarathustra hears two men
approaching where he was dwelling. He called out to them and realized that they were two kings
searching for the overman. Zarathustra introduces the Ass by yelling out to the kings saying,
Strange! Strange! How does this fit together? Two kings I see and only one ass! (356 p2). The
kings reply to Zarathustra and when he is presents himself to them, the kings are it total dismay.
They explain that they are looking for the overman for he is the one higher than the lords.
Zarathustra is pleased by their desire to find the overman. The kings then told Zarathustra that they
plan to convey the Ass to the overman. During the time

Comparing Two Choices
Did you grow up in a small town or a big city? There are many different opinions on which one is
better for a person overall, which can often lead to arguments. Choices can have both positive and
negative sides to them. In this case both choices that are given have pros and cons. The better
choice is to grow up in a big city.
The first reason that growing up in a big city is good, is that you have the chance to meet more

Have you ever felt that as you become developed and enlightened as your life progress you still felt
that something is missing? As for what Guy Montag felt from Ray Bradbury s novel Fahrenheit 451
, having a complete life and a honorable profession as a fireman (burns books), he felt that there
is something missing in his life, it is the books that his society wanted to be burned out, he
finally found his true purpose, it is to memorize the books he have read to rewrite it in to their

do, not to try to fit in other s mask but to only wear our own; it is to find out our own dream and
goals to start our own journey towards success, happiness, and fulfillment in life. Once we figure
out what we really want to do, we find ourselves to feel that we are going to the right direction
and know that once we get to our destination we will be satisfied in life with clarity. To be

Pulmonary Valve Research Paper
The pulmonary valve is one of the semi lunar valve next to aortic valve, lying between the right
ventricle and the Pulmonary artery which takes deoxygenated blood from the body and pumps it
into the heart. Generally tricuspid, the pulmonary valve is considered simpler in anatomical sense.
A semi lunar valve separates a ventricle from a bloodvessel which the ventricle leads into in its flow
path of blood. The absence of chordae tendinae is prominent in the semilunar valves. The
pulmonary leaflets are names based on the anatomic orientation to the aortic valve faces that lie
adjacent to the pulmonary trunk. The commissures of the right and left leaflets are supported by the
supraventricular crest of the right ventricle which separates the pulmonary valve from the tricuspid
valve. The left cusp is in the anterior region of the interventricular septum while the anterior cusp is

If there were no valves, blood would flow in all directions inside the heart not pumping the blood to

Hence the timing and structural integrity of these valves is essential for a healthy living. These

cause of congestive heart failure. The atrioventricular valves present between the atria and

The New Frontier
The business of today have evolved to a whole new frontier. The new frontier is no longer a
physical interface, but has shifted towards the internet scene. The internet offers many new
advantages, and because of this, it has drawn an increasing number of aspiring entrepreneurs. For
my business, I would take full advantage of the fortune of having the internet at my disposal, and
follow the path of creating an online retailer primarily focused on clothing, and fashion. I am
fully aware of the fact that there are numerous online retailers that are currently available, and that
competition will be fierce. Because of this, I will need to use everything that I have learned so far
in the business world in order to distinguish myself from me competitors. The initial step for
starting my business would be for me to study from successful online retailers, and try to analyze
the reason behind their success. I will then use this knowledge to apply it to my own site. Although
it will be challenging, I will try my best to satisfy my customers by being reliable, and committed.
After all, Amazon s success can be primarily attributed towards the excellent relationship, and
commitment that they have towards their customers. As mentioned before, it is important that I
take advantage of the technological advances that have become available to my generation. As
many successful e retailers have done, I will create an official account on various social media

African American Women in Early Film
In early film many African American actresses portrayed roles as mammies, slaves, seductresses,
and maids. These roles suppressed them not allowing them to show their true talents. Although they
had to take on these degrading roles, they still performed with dignity, elegance, grace and style.
They paved the way for many actresses to follow both blacks and whites. These women showed the
film industry that they were more than slaves, mammies, and maids. These beautiful actresses
showed the film industry that they are able to hold lead parts and even carry the whole cast if need

that I had been thrown into it, in the middle of a fight, (86). There are two rivers at Devon,
Devon River, and the Naguamsett. Devon River was clean, and represented innocence, which can
be seen in how it reminds Gene of Finny, who is innocent. This is where Gene s first baptism takes
place. Which, was purifying. However, the Naguamsett was described as saline, ugly, and fringed
with mud, seaweed, and marsh. This where Gene s second baptismtakes place. This is the opposite
of Devon River, it is full if impurities, and represents loss of innocence. So, when Gene fell into

baptism was in impure, murky water, so it is like a reverse baptism, which shows loss of
innocence, and Gene becoming impure, and less innocent. Also, Gene s baptisms occurred at

Definition Essay The Evolved Definition of Community The definition provided in The American
College Dictionary from 1964 says a group of men or women leading a common life according to
a rule. I never really viewed community in this manner. Many of us think of the word community as
a group of people who live near each other. We forget that a community is actually just a group of
people with common interests or characteristics who often happen to live near each other.
Communities can be bound by race, religion, economic standings, political standings, and most

In Charles Derber s The Good Man Fills His Own Stomach, Derber refers to two very different
communities. One is the Ik who lived in Uganda and were described as unfortunate people
expelled by an uncaring government. The other, was an imaginary community from the Woody
Allen movie Crimes and Misdemeanors. This community seemed to resemble a community from
our present day upper class with only the best hotels, restaurants, and symphonic recordings.
Although these two groups are very different, they each still follow the criterion of a community.
Each are groups of people who have formed a sort of bond with each other because of a certain
lifestyle, interests, or beliefs. When people use this word in present everyday conversation, their
application of the definition is usually compatible with the first and third definitions of The
American College Dictionary. The second definition, the public, is too general. A community is not
only a public, but a public with a common interest. In my area, when the word community is used,
the person is usually referring to the West Bloomfield community. Talking about symbols and
signified, the West Bloomfield community originally started out as just the group of people who
lived in the town of West Bloomfield. Now the people of the area have come to make The West
Bloomfield Community, signify something entirely different. It currently means any group of
people who are wealthy and Jewish no matter their locality.

The White Queen Called It, Living Backwards
The White Queen called it living backwards. She was referring, of course, to life on the other
side of a looking glass. Indeed, traveling through a looking glass, if it were possible, would be a
contortion of space, a reversal of the orderly world in the frontward side of the glass with the
disorder found in the backward side. Everything would, like the queen said, be turned around. So if
someone in Victorian England squeezed herself through a looking glass, she might find, instead of
the classic Victorian ideal of the tranquil home where the husband brought home the bacon and the
wife happily cooked it, homes in which strong wives dominated weak, ineffectual husbands and
husbands who, instead of coming home each evening to restore themselves within the loving
familial bond, escaped that bond by taking long naps and dreaming strange dreams. Indeed, instead
of finding homes in which the spaces between marriage partners were narrowed, someone
wandering through a looking glass world would find emotional gulfs between partners, gulfs that
even the most stringent Victorian ideals could not close. These emotional spaces in Lewis Carroll s
Through The Looking Glass and What Alice Found There can be seen through another lens as well.
While Alice, the book s heroine, metaphorically grows into adulthood as she moves her way across
the fictional chessboard, the author remains static; Carroll watches wistfully as the emotional space

This article had me cracking up, I have a teenage son and I often find myself saying things to
him like sanders friends mother said to them. When I am at my son s games there is often a
group of young ladies at the game watching him play. I find myself saying to my mother what,
were those clothes painted on her ? and all the boy s stair at this young lady, they are drooling at
the mouth, like a dog does to a bone. Sanders, starts this article off by describing the first time he
felt his hormones raging he described the feeling as a sympathetic twitching in my belly the way
her long raven ponytail swayed in rhythm to the walk and the way ... Show more content on

I remember it, like it was yesterday. All my girlfriends started whispering, and giggling like we
were little girls. We did not know what to say to each other. He came up to me and said that he
liked my swim suite and that he liked me. I am pretty sure I turned white. We ended up
becoming boyfriend and girlfriend for the last two weeks of the eighth grade year. I will never
forget the first time you realize that boys are no longer gross and that now you rather spend time
with boys over girls. When Sanders describes his college roommate and he have all those men in
their dorm staring at all the playboy pinups with curiosity of a naked women s body. Makes me
think about even the site of naked women gets a man horny, they are such simple creatures.
When a man sends me a picture of himself naked all I can think about is, what is the purpose of
this picture, am I supposed to be drooling at the mouth, am I supposed to tell yeah come on over
and give it to me. Women need more than a naked picture of a women to get turned on. This
article made me want to write an article about, what is it is like for a young woman to grow up and
how they want a man to look at them. I loved how Sanders

A Literary Analysis Of Disney s Aladdin
Literary Analysis of Aladdin Disney s Aladdin is a film that attempts to stereotype and westernize
Arab culture. Using racially inaccurate stereotypes, an inaccurate depiction of The Middle East, as
well as countless cultural generalizations, Aladdin creates a setting of exotic orientalism and
Islamaphobia. [Aladdindepicts...] the Arab world as backwards and irrational, the films distorted
ethnic representations fuel the western world s fear of alternity and perpetuates dangerous
stereotypes. (Heydt). The stories told in countries such as Arabia, Persia, and Asia were not meant
for children, but for adults. As there were no printed books or written novels, there were those who
sole profession was to amuse others by telling these stories. Such was the case with Aladdin. (The
Story of Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the original story, found in The Arabian Nights , Aladdin has no skills and lives with his
mother as his father died very early on due to his grieving over Aladdin s idleness. In this story
the vizier is not the magician who persuades Aladdin into pursuing the lamp, but an African
magician who poses as his uncle. There are two genies in the original tale, one from a lamp and
one from a ring, compared to the one that is in Disney s Aladdin. Aladdin ends up killing the
magician; however the magician s brother swears revenge and poses as a holy woman in order
to get close to him. In the end Aladdin also kills the magician s brother by driving a dagger
through his heart and lives happily ever after with the princess. (The Arabian Nights). While
Disney s Aladdin is similar to the original story, it is missing the traits of a kind, caring mother and
the willingness of the princess to wed who her father wanted her to marry. These are fundamental
traits and ideas found in Arab culture that are not seen in the Disney

The Embargo On Cuba And The United States
In December 2014, President Obama started restoring diplomatic relations with Cuba. Cuba and the
United States have been hostile since the Cuban Revolution of 1959, when Fidel Castro overthrew
the US supportedbacked dictator, Fulgencio Batista, and established a Communist regime. The US
rejected Castro s bid for equal economic partnership because they wanted to maintain economic
dominance. As such, Castro began seizing US assets, causing back and forth actions that
culminated in Presidents Eisenhower and Kennedy placing an embargo in 1960 61. The embargo
was intensified in the 1990s, and attempts to relax sanctions cannot succeed without Congress
repealing the laws responsible for the embargo. Despite arguments that it would help fight human
rightsviolations, the US embargo on Cubashould be lifted because of its historic ineffectiveness, the
potential economic advantages of a repeal, and the democratic values shown by the popularity of a
repeal.
Historically, the embargo has been caused by errant foreign policy, and has failed to achieve its
goals for 55 years. As President Obama said, These 50 years have shown that isolation has not
worked . . . We will end an outdated approach that for decades has failed to advance our interests
(Baker). Cuba aligned with the USSR partly because of initial US hostility, and such policy is
called an egregious foreign policy error, . . . in effect pushing Castro to become more inflexible
(Walke and Bourassa). Cuba lost Soviet aid

Analysis Of A Thousand Splendid Suns By Khaled Hosseini
A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini is an excellent fiction novel full of hope, tragedy,
faith, and friendship. The story takes place in Afghanistan, where author Khaled Hosseini was born
and raised for part of his life. At age fourteen, Hosseini and his family settled in California, where he
learned English and eventually became a doctor. He wrote bestsellers The Kite Runner and A
Thousand Splendid Suns in his free time in an attempt to inform the Western population on the
events shaping his homeland, Afghanistan. Published by Riverhead Booksin 2007, A Thousand
Splendid Suns is 415 pages long and follows the journey of Mariam and Laila, two Afghan girls
whose lives are immensely affected by war, family, and love. Hosseini s well written, bestselling
novel does an outstanding job of describing the heartbreaking situations and obstacles faced by
the citizens and women in Afghanistan, helps readers to put their lives in perspective, and will
impact anyone who reads it. Beginning in Afghanistan in 1959, the story follows the story of
young Mariam, struggling to find her purpose and importance. She is a harami or illegitimate
child, and her ungrateful mother, Nana, reminds her about it everyday. As the daughter of a
wealthy businessman that doesn t have much time for her, Mariam simply wants to feel accepted
and loved. However, after a major tragedy strikes her life, the fifteen year old is married off to a
much older man named Rasheed despite her dread.

Describe The Semipermeability Of The Cell Membrane
The membrane around the cells in the body is the boundary that keeps them from reaching the
surroundings on the outside. It allows for certain substances to pass through to the cells rather than
others, and it contains proteins and lipids such as phospholipids (cholesterol) (Erster 3). The
simplest membranes are known as a phospholipidbilayer, given that there are two layers
containing hydrophilic heads and hydrophobic tails allowing the membrane to have its
semipermeability. The tails on both layers face the inside towards each other, while the heads
are on the outside (Erster 4). They have a fluidity to it, being able to move from side to side, and
rarely flip due to having to move through areas that are hydrophobic (afraid of water) and
hydrophilic (attracted to water) since it would take a lot of energy to do so (Erster 10).... Show more

Lipid rafts are a kind of membrane domain that have a specific structure and job. The whole domain
does not detach from the membrane. The closest thing to becoming loose is when the temperature
goes down, increasing the fluidity of the membrane (Erster 12,13).
B) Choice B is incorrect. These regions cannot flip inside out. In a simple membrane, the lipids
move from side to side, and there can sometimes be a flip in the bilayer between the top and
bottom layer s hydrophilic heads and hydrophobic tails, but that in itself takes a lot of energy to
do (as explained above)(Erster 10). There is no way to flip the region inside out.
C) Choice C is correct. The fluidity of the membrane can change overtime depending on the
temperature. As explained in my falsification of choice A, as temperature goes down, the
membrane becomes more fluid, and the tails become unsaturated to keep the phospholipids from
tightening up (Erster

An Alcoholics Anonymous ( Aa ) Meeting Essay
I went to an Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) meeting on November 26, 2016 at noon in Simi
Valley, CA. It was in the back entrance of a strip mall in a long, thin room with tables down the
middle and chairs around the table and around the walls in the room. It is only located four
minutes from my house, but I have never noticed it before. As I walked in there was a little
kitchen with coffee and a pecan pie and there were goodies on the table. I them walked into the
main room. A woman led the group for her first time. Next to her sat the secretary who helped
her out. She read some rules about the group and asked if there were new members. I raised my
hand and explained that I was a MFT student and that I had come to observe the meeting.
Everyone welcomed me and were very friendly and supportive. Others introduced themselves and
several were from out of town. Baskets were passed around for those who wanted to donate. In the
rules, it states that there were no dues or fees for AA membership, but that each AA group was self
supporting through their own contributions. Most people donated in a dollar or two. Then the
leader made some announcements. One that I thought was interesting was that this AA group was
going to have meetings all day on Thanksgiving to support those who needed help. In the evening,
there would be a Potluck Thanksgiving dinner. It was mentioned that two people were bringing
turkeys and another person was bringing a ham. I imagine that the holidays would be a

How Does Shakespeare Use Gender In Hamlet
Matthias Brand
Dramatic lit.
Mark Mannette

Gender
Many theatre students will tell you about Shakespeare, who he is, what plays he has written. But
what if a theatre student came up to you and the first thing he said was that Shakespeare was all
about gender and sexuality. Many people in the theater community may have to agree. If you don t
agree your mind may be changed by the end of this paper. In the plays The Winter s Tale and Hamlet
, you will find that Shakespeare brings out the theme of gender and sexuality.
In the work of Hamlet you will find that gender uncertainty was there through the use of incest. One
instance of this this that Claudius and Gertrude are married. This is incest in the substantiality that
they were brother in law and sister in law. Another instance of this is that many time Ophelia and
Laertes call each other sexual names. Many people would find this wrong because they are brother
and sister. Although the biggest sexual wrong is that of Hamlet and Gertrude. Hamlet hates one

The World Transition From Brain Deadening Media
Introduction
Hawkins said I wanted to help the world transition from brain deadening media like broadcast
television to interactive media that would connect people and help them grow. Electronic Arts
(EA), one of the leading companies in the gaming world, was founded by Trip Hawkins in the
year 1982 and is headquartered in Redwood City, California. The company s corporate
governance is constituted by a board of nine directors including Larry Probst (Chairman) and
Andrew Wilson (CEO). Hawkins envisioned EA as a publishing company that would be known for
its quality and professionalism, working with the best independent talent to make the gaming
industry equivalent to movies, books or music. Consumers, employees and shareholders are the
main stakeholders in the company. EA hopes to build lifetime players by relentlessly improving
quality. It is known that Hawkins wanted to properly credit and compensate the talent that
developed games, giving them the same respect that artists in other media enjoyed. Ever since it
became public at $8 per share in the year 1990, EA keeps its shareholders well informed about
crucial information such as investor kits, conference presentations, stock prices etc.
Background
At first, the company was named Amazin Software. In October of 1982, the company was renamed
to Electronic Arts since Hawkins wanted to recognize software as an art form. EA has a number of
business strategies. First, expanding rapidly through timely acquisitions. From 2000

The Vietnam war had far reaching effects on the United States, other than the vast amount of
casualties suffered, which was a total of 211,454 casualties throughout the war. Firstly, Congress
replaced its military draft with an all volunteer force as well as reducing the voting age to 18.
Congress was also inspired to restrict the president s ability to send American forces into combat
without their explicit approval with the War Powers Act. President Johnson was unwilling to

Judith- Compare and Contrast
Judith Old English and Vulgate Versions
Upon looking closely at the Old English and Vulgate versions of Judith, one can catch a glimpse of
how culture was during the time they were written by comparing and contrasting the elements of
the story that are presented and modified. The distinct differences that can be found between the
Old English and the vulgate versions of Judith provide a clear view of what the Anglo Saxons
considered to be important, and what they felt required respect. When comparing and contrasting
these two versions, one can utilize other Old English works such as Beowulf and The Wanderer to
clearly spot the differences and similarities to receive some insight into the culture and feelings of
the Anglo Saxons.

10, Book of Judith 16:23). The idea of Judith being a warrior for the rest of her life seeking glory
and fighting in battle was most likely an idea that the Anglo Saxons could not give up on and
shows the need their culture had for heroes that garnered glory.
A difference clearly illuminated by examining the two works is the role of women in Anglo
Saxon culture. The Anglo Saxon version of Judith clearly illustrates the idea of a Valkyrie, a
woman who is not afraid to battle, and revels in the thought of Judith being a strong captain or
even warrior who leads her people to a bloody victory. This conception is evidenced by how
Judith is characterized in the Anglo Saxon version being portrayed as a valiant virgin with nerve
and vigor (Judith Ch. 10). This stands in stark contrast to the book of Judith verses three through
four where Judith is revealed to be a widow who has lived alone for three years and four months.
It s obvious by looking at these two different stories that one can tell what was important to the
Anglo Saxon people. A young woman strong and stable without a care in the world besides who
she was fighting would appeal greatly to the warrior culture of the Anglo Saxons. But the book of
Judith reveals to us a woman in deep sadness who has fasted all the days of

Deep Sea Sounding On Challenger
11. Deep sea sounding on Challenger HMS Challenger sounding logs show that by September
1873, the Baillie was used to conduct most of Challenger s deep sea sounding work. Unlike a
wire sounder tested and rejected earlier in the voyage, the Baillie sounder was able to move
within the ship s existing system of instrumentation and materials. As with HMS Sylvia,
sounding was conducted from the mainyard, and a steam engine on the deck helped to retrieve
the sounder from the ocean floor. Similar to the Hydra, officers timed and calculated the Baillie s
rate of decent. When the sounder slowed, the ocean s depth was ascertained by the length of the
sounding line. 12. Other instruments It is often overlooked that the Baillie sounder worked as a
system with other instruments. In addition to the sounder, several thermometers, a water
collection bottle and a pressure gauge were often attached to the hemp sounding line. In this
manner, the Baillie sounder worked in concert with several other instruments collecting
information about the ocean floor. The ability of the Baillie sounder to transport sea floor
materials to the surface was useful for the laying of telegraph cables, but also essential for
scientific analysis. Samples of the ocean bottom provided key evidence for developing theories
about life in the deep ocean, and how species evolved over time. For example, in 1865 zoologist
Thomas Huxley claimed Bathybius haecklii was a type of primordial ooze that lived on the deep

Speech Sounds Octavia Butler Analysis
Octavia Butler, the author of Speech Sounds and many other short stories, is a well known author
for her feminist point of view which might be attributed to her father who died when she was
young and her mother taking on the role as the father figure as well as the mother figure. After the
bus stop, Valerie Rye, the protagonist in this short storywho goes by Rye for a lot of the short story,
met Obsidian who Rye assumes his name to be; also, he used to be a LAPD officer. Rye
immediately trusts Obsidian to drive her to Pasadena to see what is left of her family. In Octavia
Butlers Speech Sounds, the men and women have reverse genderroles throughout this short story
than we are used to because men in our world tend to have more power over women. After the
bus came to a full and complete stop, Rye left the bus and she saw Obsidian who was a big man,
young, nearly bearded with dark thick hair (Butler 409). It was unusual because the Obsidian was
wearing a Los Angeles Police Department uniform even though LAPD had been dismantled many
years ago, and replaced with neighborhood watchmen along with armed men. Police officers, in
today s world, either male or female, are assumed to be indestructible even though we know that
they get hurt some times in their line of work. Also, they are believed to be trustworthy and
dependable for our needs. After Obsidian and Rye were driving in their car and were disturbed by

What Is The Message Of The Man On The Moon By John Lewis
A medium sized suburban home comes into view; a light snowfall blankets the world in a sheet of

of light strung carefully from every rooftop. Despite the busy season, the air feels light with
Christmas cheer as despite the chilly weather there is a feeling of warmth through every home. The
Christmasseason had finally arrived, coming into view as quick as a flicker of the home s hearth.
No matter where you go you can feel the spirit of the holidays throughout every home, every meal,
and every celebration. The holiday season fills each and every person with emotion, an emotion
that is hard to describe but everyone who has experienced the holidays knows. Trying to capture
this emotion is difficult, yet sometimes his emotion can truly be harnessed and celebrated.

  • 2. Pros And Cons Of Global Corruption Global Corruption Corruption can be defined as the abuse of entrusted power for private gain. It can be classified as grand, petty and political, depending on the amounts of money lost and the sector where it occurs. Bribery, extortion and embezzlement are the three principle versions of corruption. For instance, an employee of a firm who is in charge of purchasing functions takes some amount of money from a supplier (bribery), in which that same employee ensures the payment for the products to be above the usual price. Then the residuary amount between the actual price and the turgid price after bribery would get siphoned off by the employee and the supplier (embezzlement). If it s the case of political corruption, an exemplifying scenario can be, some government officials use their positions to extort payments from some government regulated firms. Expectably, economic corruption impairs development and political corruption depraves prospering governance. Unfortunately, both of these types of corruption continuously persist all around the world . Every year, Transparency Internationalpublishes a Global Corruption Index analyzing each country s projected corruption predicated on the scope of bribery, illegitimate government expenditures and absence of anti corruption regulations . For the last few decades, some countries have been continuously occupying the end of the list together. By the end of last year, the top three most corrupted countries were Afghanistan, Somalia and North Korea. Almost all of Afghanistan s widespread corruption is connected to misuse of aid money that was provided to the country by international entities. The Afghan government in 2012 promised to put efforts to diminish the problem, however because of the fact that public officials are the largest beneficiaries from corruption, there is not much of significant improvements has been made towards corruption reduction . Somalia has experienced similar issues as well. One of the World Bank reports showed that within the matter of 2 years, the aid money that Somalia received which is around $130 million . Furthermore, Somalia s private companies have been reportedly paying certain fees to the government officials in exchange of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Salt River Labs Case Study Essay Salt River Labs Q What is the major problem at SRL? Who are the people involved and how do they contribute to the problem? 1. There are many problems that are apparent at Salt River Labs. The first major problem is the purchasing process. There are way too many people involved in this process. The current process involves series of five different people, or groups of people. This starts with the Chemists who send requisitions to supervisors, who send the requisition to Suzie Martinez, who sends the same requisition to Barbara, who finally sends the requisition to Arthur who makes the final decision about the requisition. Once a decision to approve or disapprove the requisition has been made, the requisition gets sent to Paul ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All of these trust/hostility issues are caused by a lack of communication among the entire organization. Communication is the root of many of the problems at this company. Equipment breakage is a very pertinent problem as well. Equipment continuously breaks and SRL does not have the money or the resources necessary to fix the broken machines. The machine that has been fixed already has not been picked up from Hewlett Packard because of the fact that SRL does not have the money to do so. So, SRL has a fixed machine that they cannot use because of the debt the company is undergoing. Another problem that is apparent at Salt River Labs is the inventory situation. Ever since SRL moved from their old building to the new building, the inventory has been left in the boxes they were transferred in. Nothing has been unloaded which is leading to the problem of not knowing exactly what is in house. This inventory issue affects Arthur s opinion on the chemists because he doesn t think that the chemists thoroughly search for the materials they need before ordering more. All of the problems listed above are causing late orders, and if orders are late or even non existent, then the company will eventually go out of business. Lastly, Arthur needs to provide a financial analysis that explains where money has been coming from and going to for the past 5 years. He has to have some type of budget plan, and if he is unable to provide an accurate one for the company then ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Physical therapy profession is going through a tough time facing more regulations and scrutiny from Medicare and other insurance agencies. Apart from advocating healthcare policy changes including Medicare therapy gap issues, physical therapists should also get prepared to bring in excellent reputation in the healthcare sector by adhering to the level of outstanding compliance which will eventually lead to decrease in claim denials and reviews. For example, Payment and Practice Challenges Survey conducted by APTA in 2013 revealed that the majority of physical therapists are concerned with reimbursement issues and increasing financial regulations and not bothered about potential circumstances contusive for fraudulent and abusive activities in terms of reimbursement. The amount of continuous education hours completed by physical therapists in documentation training is very less compared to the time spend on acquiring intervention skills. This makes the situation more vulnerable for physical therapists in making incorrect decisions and errors in coding and documentation which will have a negative impact on the total reimbursement of the services provided. Error free documentation is very vital in bringing down the claim denials and review audits. • 5. Essay Frank McCourts Angelas Ashes Frank McCourts Angelas Ashes Frank McCourt s Angela s Ashes is a powerful and emotional memoir of his life from childhood through early adulthood. This book is a wonderfully inspired piece of work that emotionally attaches the reader through McCourt s life experiences. Its effectiveness is primarily due to McCourts evolving innocent eye narrative technique. He allows the reader to experience his own lifein a changeable form. Through this unique story telling technique, the reader is able to watch Frank grow and evolve. Between the ages of four, eleven and fourteen changes in his writing can be easily identified. For instance, he refers to his family standing in the kitchen as big people (106). He is easily confused and does not understand complex concepts: ...He can have Malachy and the twins for brothers. He can t have Margaret anymore because she s like the dog in the street that was taken away. I don t know why she was taken away (43). Concepts such as death and religion are especially difficult for a child to understand. Mam tells us, That s the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and I want to know why the man s heart is on fire and why doesn t He throw water on it? (67). A unique relationship forms between the author and the reader through McCourt s effective show and tell narrative method. This gives the reader more involvement and greater emotional attachment. During the first part of this book, he shows the reader, through innocent misunderstandings, that interpretation is needed in order to fully understand the context: Sometimes he [Mr. Leibowitz] speaks to Mrs. Leibowitz and I don t understand because strange sounds come from his mouth. Freddie understands...smiles back and makes the strange sounds (38). Here the reader knows that the strange sounds are the Leibowitz s speaking another language. Frank does not understand that there are different languages that people speak other than just English, but the mature reader is informed. According to the Agency for Health Care Policy Research, depression is under diagnosed untreated by most medical doctors, despite the fact that it can almost always be treated successfully. According to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition (DSM IV); A person who suffers from this disorder must have a depressed mood, or have lost interest in things that would have normally brought them pleasure; for a minimum of two weeks. The first step to treatment should be a complete physical by a doctor, so that any medical condition is ruled out as the cause of depression. Then, the physician can start to focus on the causes and treatments available. The treatments for depression can be antidepressants, psychotherapy, or a combination of both. Treatments using anti depressants is well documented, but there are very few studies documenting only the use of psychotherapy. However, in one study done using the CognitiveВ–behavioral analysis system of psychotherapy (CBASP) as a maintenance treatment, the overall findings show that psychotherapy in itself can be successful. There were 82 patients who were treated with CBASP long term. Patients were chosen at random to reduce their treatment to monthly or to an observational status. The patients, only treated monthly with CBASP, showed a smaller amount of reoccurring symptoms then the patients in the observational status. These findings support the use of only CBASP as a maintenance treatment for depression. (Klein, 2004) Psychotherapy itself comes in many forms, and is based on many different psychological models. The Thus Spoke Zarathustra By The Nineteenth Century In the Thus Spoke Zarathustra , written by the 19th century philosopher Nietzsche, we are presented with many sermons that are structure similar to parables from the Lutheran Bible. These sermons are given to us by the main character, Zarathustra, on our quest to find the overman (ubermench). Zarathustra uses many characters to present stories about the flaws of humanity and how we are to get better. In Thus Spoke Zarathustra, Zarathustra uses the character of an ass (donkey) that was first presented to us through the sermon of Talking to the kings and plays a major role in the later novel. The Ass is used as an idol that many of Zarathustra s guests praise as a God. The utilization of the Ass as an idol of worship is Nietzsche s criticism on how Christians worship their God. In the sermon of Talking to two kings , Zarathustra hears two men approaching where he was dwelling. He called out to them and realized that they were two kings searching for the overman. Zarathustra introduces the Ass by yelling out to the kings saying, Strange! Strange! How does this fit together? Two kings I see and only one ass! (356 p2). The kings reply to Zarathustra and when he is presents himself to them, the kings are it total dismay. They explain that they are looking for the overman for he is the one higher than the lords. However, the Naguamsett was described as saline, ugly, and fringed with mud, seaweed, and marsh. This where Gene s second baptismtakes place. • 20. The White Queen Called It, Living Backwards The White Queen called it living backwards. She was referring, of course, to life on the other side of a looking glass. Indeed, traveling through a looking glass, if it were possible, would be a contortion of space, a reversal of the orderly world in the frontward side of the glass with the disorder found in the backward side. Everything would, like the queen said, be turned around. So if someone in Victorian England squeezed herself through a looking glass, she might find, instead of the classic Victorian ideal of the tranquil home where the husband brought home the bacon and the wife happily cooked it, homes in which strong wives dominated weak, ineffectual husbands and husbands who, instead of coming home each evening to restore themselves within the loving familial bond, escaped that bond by taking long naps and dreaming strange dreams. Indeed, instead of finding homes in which the spaces between marriage partners were narrowed, someone wandering through a looking glass world would find emotional gulfs between partners, gulfs that even the most stringent Victorian ideals could not close. These emotional spaces in Lewis Carroll s Through The Looking Glass and What Alice Found There can be seen through another lens as well. Cuba and the United States have been hostile since the Cuban Revolution of 1959, when Fidel Castro overthrew the US supportedbacked dictator, Fulgencio Batista, and established a Communist regime. The US rejected Castro s bid for equal economic partnership because they wanted to maintain economic dominance. As such, Castro began seizing US assets, causing back and forth actions that culminated in Presidents Eisenhower and Kennedy placing an embargo in 1960 61. The embargo was intensified in the 1990s, and attempts to relax sanctions cannot succeed without Congress repealing the laws responsible for the embargo. Despite arguments that it would help fight human rightsviolations, the US embargo on Cubashould be lifted because of its historic ineffectiveness, the potential economic advantages of a repeal, and the democratic values shown by the popularity of a repeal. Charlie battles with the emotions he feels after he starts to get flashbacks of his childhood. He stands there, frightened by the sudden outburst. He cowers, not knowing what she will do. His body begins to shake. They re arguing, and the voices back and forth make a squeezing pressure inside him and a sense of panic (Keyes, 1959:52). While Charlie s intelligence grows he starts having impulses for women. Being emotionally immature he cannot come to the point where he can have a relationship with Alice Kinnian he rather has a sexual relationship with his neighbour Fay that briefly ends after she starts interfering with his ... The Roar Of The Crowd Research Paper The Roar of the Crowd The atmosphere of a professional team s stadium is something you cannot experience anywhere else, as soon as you step onto campus you instantly feel the excitement of game day as thousands upon thousands of fans prepare to watch their team play today. As you take your seat and prepare for the legendary tunnel walk you join in with the roar of the crowd. Even since I was a newborn baby I have been dressed in the colors of the Cornhuskers which is red and white, and as I grew older the more and more I wanted to go to a Husker game and maybe even play in Memorial Stadium myself. • 30. Describe The Semipermeability Of The Cell Membrane The membrane around the cells in the body is the boundary that keeps them from reaching the surroundings on the outside. It allows for certain substances to pass through to the cells rather than others, and it contains proteins and lipids such as phospholipids (cholesterol) (Erster 3). The simplest membranes are known as a phospholipidbilayer, given that there are two layers containing hydrophilic heads and hydrophobic tails allowing the membrane to have its semipermeability. The tails on both layers face the inside towards each other, while the heads are on the outside (Erster 4). They have a fluidity to it, being able to move from side to side, and rarely flip due to having to move through areas that are hydrophobic (afraid of water) and hydrophilic (attracted to water) since it would take a lot of energy to do so (Erster 10).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lipid rafts are a kind of membrane domain that have a specific structure and job. The whole domain does not detach from the membrane. The closest thing to becoming loose is when the temperature goes down, increasing the fluidity of the membrane (Erster 12,13). B) Choice B is incorrect. These regions cannot flip inside out. In a simple membrane, the lipids move from side to side, and there can sometimes be a flip in the bilayer between the top and bottom layer s hydrophilic heads and hydrophobic tails, but that in itself takes a lot of energy to do (as explained above)(Erster 10). There is no way to flip the region inside out. C) Choice C is correct. The fluidity of the membrane can change overtime depending on the temperature. As explained in my falsification of choice A, as temperature goes down, the membrane becomes more fluid, and the tails become unsaturated to keep the phospholipids from tightening up (Erster ... • 31. An Alcoholics Anonymous ( Aa ) Meeting Essay I went to an Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) meeting on November 26, 2016 at noon in Simi Valley, CA. It was in the back entrance of a strip mall in a long, thin room with tables down the middle and chairs around the table and around the walls in the room. It is only located four minutes from my house, but I have never noticed it before. As I walked in there was a little kitchen with coffee and a pecan pie and there were goodies on the table. I them walked into the main room. A woman led the group for her first time. Next to her sat the secretary who helped her out. She read some rules about the group and asked if there were new members. I raised my hand and explained that I was a MFT student and that I had come to observe the meeting. Everyone welcomed me and were very friendly and supportive. Others introduced themselves and several were from out of town. Baskets were passed around for those who wanted to donate. In the rules, it states that there were no dues or fees for AA membership, but that each AA group was self supporting through their own contributions. Most people donated in a dollar or two. Then the leader made some announcements. One that I thought was interesting was that this AA group was going to have meetings all day on Thanksgiving to support those who needed help. In the evening, there would be a Potluck Thanksgiving dinner. It was mentioned that two people were bringing turkeys and another person was bringing a ham. I imagine that the holidays would be a ... • 34. How Does Shakespeare Use Gender In Hamlet Matthias Brand Dramatic lit. Mark Mannette October 19, 2015 Gender Many theatre students will tell you about Shakespeare, who he is, what plays he has written. But what if a theatre student came up to you and the first thing he said was that Shakespeare was all about gender and sexuality. Many people in the theater community may have to agree. If you don t agree your mind may be changed by the end of this paper. In the plays The Winter s Tale and Hamlet , you will find that Shakespeare brings out the theme of gender and sexuality. In the work of Hamlet you will find that gender uncertainty was there through the use of incest. One instance of this this that Claudius and Gertrude are married. This is incest in the substantiality that they were brother in law and sister in law. Another instance of this is that many time Ophelia and Laertes call each other sexual names. Many people would find this wrong because they are brother and sister. Although the biggest sexual wrong is that of Hamlet and Gertrude. Hamlet hates one gender with ... • 35. The World Transition From Brain Deadening Media Introduction Hawkins said I wanted to help the world transition from brain deadening media like broadcast television to interactive media that would connect people and help them grow. Electronic Arts (EA), one of the leading companies in the gaming world, was founded by Trip Hawkins in the year 1982 and is headquartered in Redwood City, California. The company s corporate governance is constituted by a board of nine directors including Larry Probst (Chairman) and Andrew Wilson (CEO). Hawkins envisioned EA as a publishing company that would be known for its quality and professionalism, working with the best independent talent to make the gaming industry equivalent to movies, books or music. Consumers, employees and shareholders are the main stakeholders in the company. EA hopes to build lifetime players by relentlessly improving quality. It is known that Hawkins wanted to properly credit and compensate the talent that developed games, giving them the same respect that artists in other media enjoyed. Ever since it became public at $8 per share in the year 1990, EA keeps its shareholders well informed about crucial information such as investor kits, conference presentations, stock prices etc. Background At first, the company was named Amazin Software. In October of 1982, the company was renamed to Electronic Arts since Hawkins wanted to recognize software as an art form. EA has a number of business strategies. First, expanding rapidly through timely acquisitions. From 2000 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Congress was also inspired to restrict the president s ability to send American forces into combat without their explicit approval with the War Powers Act. Judith- Compare and Contrast Judith Old English and Vulgate Versions Upon looking closely at the Old English and Vulgate versions of Judith, one can catch a glimpse of how culture was during the time they were written by comparing and contrasting the elements of the story that are presented and modified. The distinct differences that can be found between the Old English and the vulgate versions of Judith provide a clear view of what the Anglo Saxons considered to be important, and what they felt required respect. When comparing and contrasting these two versions, one can utilize other Old English works such as Beowulf and The Wanderer to clearly spot the differences and similarities to receive some insight into the culture and feelings of the Anglo Saxons. The idea of Judith being a warrior for the rest of her life seeking glory and fighting in battle was most likely an idea that the Anglo Saxons could not give up on and shows the need their culture had for heroes that garnered glory. A difference clearly illuminated by examining the two works is the role of women in Anglo Saxon culture. The Anglo Saxon version of Judith clearly illustrates the idea of a Valkyrie, a woman who is not afraid to battle, and revels in the thought of Judith being a strong captain or even warrior who leads her people to a bloody victory. This conception is evidenced by how Judith is characterized in the Anglo Saxon version being portrayed as a valiant virgin with nerve and vigor (Judith Ch. 10). This stands in stark contrast to the book of Judith verses three through four where Judith is revealed to be a widow who has lived alone for three years and four months. It s obvious by looking at these two different stories that one can tell what was important to the Anglo Saxon people. A young woman strong and stable without a care in the world besides who she was fighting would appeal greatly to the warrior culture of the Anglo Saxons. But the book of Judith reveals to us a woman in deep sadness who has fasted all the days of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Deep Sea Sounding On Challenger 11. Deep sea sounding on Challenger HMS Challenger sounding logs show that by September 1873, the Baillie was used to conduct most of Challenger s deep sea sounding work. Unlike a wire sounder tested and rejected earlier in the voyage, the Baillie sounder was able to move within the ship s existing system of instrumentation and materials. As with HMS Sylvia, sounding was conducted from the mainyard, and a steam engine on the deck helped to retrieve the sounder from the ocean floor. Similar to the Hydra, officers timed and calculated the Baillie s rate of decent. When the sounder slowed, the ocean s depth was ascertained by the length of the sounding line. 12. Other instruments It is often overlooked that the Baillie sounder worked as a system with other instruments. In addition to the sounder, several thermometers, a water collection bottle and a pressure gauge were often attached to the hemp sounding line. In this manner, the Baillie sounder worked in concert with several other instruments collecting information about the ocean floor. The ability of the Baillie sounder to transport sea floor materials to the surface was useful for the laying of telegraph cables, but also essential for scientific analysis. Samples of the ocean bottom provided key evidence for developing theories about life in the deep ocean, and how species evolved over time. For example, in 1865 zoologist Thomas Huxley claimed Bathybius haecklii was a type of primordial ooze that lived on the deep ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Speech Sounds Octavia Butler Analysis Octavia Butler, the author of Speech Sounds and many other short stories, is a well known author for her feminist point of view which might be attributed to her father who died when she was young and her mother taking on the role as the father figure as well as the mother figure. After the bus stop, Valerie Rye, the protagonist in this short storywho goes by Rye for a lot of the short story, met Obsidian who Rye assumes his name to be; also, he used to be a LAPD officer. Rye immediately trusts Obsidian to drive her to Pasadena to see what is left of her family. In Octavia Butlers Speech Sounds, the men and women have reverse genderroles throughout this short story than we are used to because men in our world tend to have more power over women. After the bus came to a full and complete stop, Rye left the bus and she saw Obsidian who was a big man, young, nearly bearded with dark thick hair (Butler 409). It was unusual because the Obsidian was wearing a Los Angeles Police Department uniform even though LAPD had been dismantled many years ago, and replaced with neighborhood watchmen along with armed men. Police officers, in today s world, either male or female, are assumed to be indestructible even though we know that they get hurt some times in their line of work. Also, they are believed to be trustworthy and dependable for our needs. After Obsidian and Rye were driving in their car and were disturbed by the un named man and woman who ran out of a ...
