Rational Decision For Making Rational Decisions
The ability for one to make rational decisions is vital, and this is especially true for decisions that
can have enormous consequences. The process for making rational decisions is tedious, it requires
one to have the opportunity to deeply process, evaluate, and re evaluate available options. This
suggests that rational decisions must be made in the absence of external parties because external
influences are capable of preventing individuals from processing information for themselves.
Otherwise, this would likely result in the individual coming to rash conclusions that cater to the
external parties. Unfortunately, under most circumstances, it is a challenge to make rational
decisions, because as social animals, we constantly expose... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In this essay, I will demonstrate that social factors such as media propaganda and conformity, as
well as personal factors which include schemas and aggression management, are the main forces
that had driven me into being irrational while I was filling out the survey. Social factors like
media propaganda and conformity have prevented me from answering the survey questions
rationally. In the aftermath of the tragic event in France on November 13th, there was extensive
media coverage on the incident, and the likelihood for future terrorist attack became the hottest
topic amongst my family and friends. The media often portrays itself as an objectively neutral
source of information, and by doing so they are able to persuade their viewers more effectively.
Furthermore, the effectiveness of media propaganda drastically increases if emotional appeals
are incorporated in the messages. This can be observed in a study which shows that smokers
who got frightened when watching a film on the dangers of smoking, were more likely to quit
smoking, and in this case, the media is making use of my fear (Leventhal 1970). Different forms
of media, e.g. news on television, newspaper, online news articles, and talk shows, all painted the
Syrian refugees as potential threats to our safety. For example, in one article, a journalist discusses
the potential danger we would be in if terrorists were to pose as Syrian refugees and

Surgical Hair Treatment for Men and Women
Losing hair is very frustrating that affects most of the people around the world. Today, about 50%
of women and 60% of men suffer from hair loss. The most common type of hair loss is androgenic
alopecia that affects both the sexes, it is also known as male pattern baldness and female pattern
baldness . People shed 100 hairs per day based on their scalp that contain hair follicles (100,000
hair follicles is average). But what causes hair loss? There are many reasons behind hair loss such
as anemia, some disease, low vitamin and protein level, stress, aging, menopause, pregnancy,
puberty, crash diet and others.
If you are experiencing hair loss or hair thinning and are suffering from psychological issues such
as stress from hair loss then don t worry because now the time has come that you opt for a therapy.
There are many surgical treatments such as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

This treatment is suitable for you if you have mild to moderate level of baldness and if you have

You should remember that the ideal candidate for this treatment is the one who falls under the
category of class III on the Norwood scale. As hair transplant is a proven and natural procedure for
treating hair loss. It has revolutionized hair transplant surgery for both men and women. However,
this treatment can only be performed when both surgeon and other surgical staff have proper skill

Business Intelligence Software Essays
Business Intelligence Software
As we discuss the possibility of emerging into business intelligence software we must keep in
mind the overall purpose of using any type of software is to reach strategic goals in order to
increase market shares. I will discuss how business intelligence software will allow us to meet
those strategic goals. We will establish what type of information and analysis capabilities will be
available once this business intelligence software is implemented. We will discuss hardware and
system software that will be required to run specific business intelligence software. Lastly, I will
give a brief synopsis on three vendors (IBM, Microsoft Microsoft and Oracle) that are dominating

These sales trends can be sorted by geographical regions, industry specific or by an individual
customer. The query selection of this type of data would only be restricted by imagination of the
staff. Accounting/finance data will also be captured within this database linking accounting/finance
information directly to customer data. This will allow management to pull information from sales,
inventory, billing and total revenue. The data is endless; the true challenge comes from pulling
information that will allow us to make decisions that lead to our strategic goals of larger market
shares. I have discussed what most management would consider the backbone of business
intelligence software, data management that allows us to run queries and report the queries for
managing and production purposes. Information delivery is also a capability that comes from
business intelligence software, information delivery can come in the form of emails that are
programmed to deliver specified queries on a given day of the week or month or even daily.
These same queries can be web based allowing associates to access pertinent information anywhere
in the world they might be with internet access. Obviously this type of access brings up security
issues, but all of the platforms that I have researched come with a very robust security program.
When looking at hardware requirements the initial question of Scale up or Scale out of resources

Brazil Party System Essay
Introduction: Political parties represent very important factor in order to have a democratic system
in particular and a democratic country in general, they work as the mediator between the society
and the state and the effectiveness of the party system in any country depend mainly on its ability
to achieve the demands of the public. However, in Latin America, not all the countries have that
important function of the party system. Brazil and Chile from the period of 1990 2006 show
similar type of a party system [both have multi party politics] but not similar outcome regarding the
fulfillment of public demands which should be the priority for any democratic governments]. Party

Wormwood, or Artemisia Maritima Essay
Wormwood, or Artemisia Maritima, is a low maintenance plant that is easy to grow. This plant is
great for beginning herbologists. In the wild, sea wormwood grows along the seashore in Europe
and Asia. Wormwood is a hardy plant that can tolerate drought, maritime exposures and
temperatures as low as 15C. It has a sweet lavender like smell but is very bitter to the taste. It is easy
to identify from a distance by its silver gray colour. It is a flowering plant, growing close to two
metres high. The leaves are narrow, covered with silver velvety fur. It has small yellow oblong
flowers, containing three to six florets, in August and September. They are hermaphrodite and are
pollinated by the wind. In the following, I shall... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

to help increase the appetite of cows as well as repel slugs, insects, and mice. Its fragrant branches
can be put into linen closets and mattresses to drive out moths and fleas, and in shoes to prevent
tired feet.
I grow this plant in light sandy, medium loamy, salty soil that is well drained but moist with a
pH of 6 to 7.6. I keep it in full sunlight. I sow the seeds from late winter to early summer in my
greenhouse. I must ensure that the compost does not dry out. When they are large enough to
handle, I plant the seedlings into individual pots. There can up to 50,000 seeds on each stem which
are viable for three to fours years! I keep them in the greenhouse during their first winter.
In the late spring to early summer of their next year, I plant them outside. The plants must be
planted two feet apart. I prune half of the ripe wood in July or August and divide the plants in the
spring or the fall. They regrow from ground level each spring. It is difficult to manage wormwood
once it is established, as it reduces biodiversity.
This plant is poisonous in large qualities and must be kept out of the reach of children and pets.
Ingesting small quantities may cause nervous disorders, convulsions and insomnia. The scent may
cause headaches in some sensitive people as well as allergies and asthma. This plant is

Language Is A Sexist Language
Language is a method of communication, which can be either written, spoken or in a form of a
sign language. Language is used in various ways, such as to express internalized thoughts and
emotions, to learn to communicate with others and as well as to establish and maintain cultures.
Currently, the world of the 21st century is an Anglophone world, meaning that it is an English
speaking world. English is the third largest language by number of native speakers, after Chinese

Why is English considered as a sexist language? There are various reasons why English is still
considered as a sexist language. One of the major reasons is because of the connotation. The word
engineer can be applied to both sexes, male and female. However, people habitually apply the word
engineer only with male because of its connotation. Consequently, when referring to a woman, you
have to add the word female before engineer. Also in the English language, there are many words
that are evidently male oriented such as, congressman and mailman. Moreover, some nouns of
feminine gender can only be obtained by adding a suffix to masculine gendered nouns such as,
prince and princess and steward and stewardess. Not only because of sexism in words, but sexism
in proverbs also suggest English as a patriarchal language. The proverb, a woman is like a lemon;
you squeeze her and throw her away, certainly shows disrespectfulness and discriminates women in
a very insulting manner. Males and females make different choices with regard to their college

Comparison of Homer and Virgil’s Tragic Hero
Comparison of Homer and Virgil s Tragic Hero
Homer, an ancient Greek epic poet, influenced many writers in the ancient Greek and Roman
culture, particularly Virgil. Virgil, most famous for his epic poem The Aeneid demonstrates Homer
s influence through similar characters, mythology, and ideals. Homer in both his most famous
works the Iliad and The Odyssey weaves poetry based on centuries worth of oral stories handed
down and uses a sophisticated style of writing that is still recognized today. Although the tragic
hero is defined slightly differently in modern text than ancient Greek and Roman works, Aristotle
defined a tragic hero in his work Poetics as the character between these two extremes, that of a man
who is not eminently good ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Homer used pride as the tragic flaw that Achilles learned to overcome, whereas Virgil used a sense
of duty as Aeneas s tragic flaw. Homer portrayed Achilles as arrogant because he allowed his
men to fight a battle he knew they could not win without him. Achilles asked his mother for
Zeus to favor the Trojans so that he could regain the honor that he felt Agamemnon stripped
away. Aeneas s tragic flaw unlike Achilles was his sense of duty, which in turn he encountered
pitfalls during his escape from Troy. Achilles battled for personal glory and his own honor as a
warrior whereas Aeneas spent his time attempting to fulfill his mission, which forced him to
invade and conquer, a duty given to him by the gods. Virgil unites and conjoins all the virtues in
the formation of his hero: He gives him religion towards the gods, piety towards his country,
tenderness and friendship towards his relations, and equity and justice towards all (Rapin). On the
contrary, Homer magnified the tragic flaw in Achilles, which cost him his sanity because he
became obsessive with revenge. Although Aeneas s flaw appears minor in comparison to Achilles,
it led him to be an instrument of gods, which in turn destroyed innocent lives. Mercury appeared to
Aeneas to remind him of his mission and told him, Oblivious of your own world, your own
kingdom...He [Zeus] and no other sent me to you...Think of the

Man (2008).
Before analyzing the films, we should briefly look at the directors and actors, and description of the
film franchise. The first film is Wing Chun which came out in 1994, after the television series of
the same name, was directed by Woo Ping Yuen. He was born in Guangzhou China on January 1,

Charmy was later on kidnapped by the bandits and Wing Chun, with the help of Leung Pok To
saved her. However, Wing Chun had not defeated the Flying Chimpanzee in their match, so, she
travelled to find her master, the Buddhist nun, Ng Miu. After some wise words from her master and
clearing the misunderstanding with Leung Pok To, she returned to the mountains and eventually
defeated the leader of the bandits. The movie ended with the marriage of childhood sweethearts,
Wing Chun and Leung Pok To.
The film did not allude to a lot of historical events which mirrors what we know about the origin
of Wing Chun as they mostly consisted of stories passed down by word of mouth. The most
popular legend states that Yim Wing Chun learned martial arts from a Buddhist nun from the
Shaolin temple to escape marriage from a thug, and passed the practice on to her husband. The
film focused on retelling Wing Chun s various victories. The storytelling style used in the film
matches the style of old legends , which means that the film placed emphasis on the incredulous
fights, impossible jumps and supernatural abilities and pills. It also portrayed clichГ© story lines
with a group of bandits wreaking havoc and saving a damsel in distress (Charmy). All of this sums
up to an epic story of a hero, with martial arts just as an additional part of the story.
The second film to be analyzed is Wilson Yip s

A Sociological Issue On South Africa
In South Africa race took a shift from biology to culture. Because is of its many diverse
indigenous groups, race was no longer a difference between Afrikaners and the English but with
Zulus, Xhosa and Tswanas. Language was used as a determinant of race. Dubow argues that not
much scientifically constructed race has been done in South Africa despite the fact that race
has deep seated roots. This is because many dismissed race as being scientific as it began to
appear to be a sociological issue. Science was then pushed aside and race was now seen as a
social and intellectual construct (Dubow, 1995: 2 5) from natural science to solely social
science resulting from everyday experiences. When we say race is a social construct we
disregard any possibility of it being that of a scientific one. It is not something that we are born
with because of our culture (Erasmus, 2005: 9), instead, simply out, race is a bunch of
meanings that we attach to people. We do not dispute the fact that there are differences among
people. Those differences just run much deeper. By saying race is a social construct this is not
to say that it doesn t exist seeing that it affects our lives; it determines our real life experiences.
Saying it is socially constructed means that race is a learnt behaviour and what can be learnt can
easily be unlearnt. We say it is constructed because it was used as a basis of division by powerful
people who felt superior. Its implications as a construct are still very

In this case the father loses Beauty not out of love but out of his own weakness of addiction
gambling. As she strips away the petals of the flower, it symbolizes her stripping away the outer
layers of attachment and personality to find her true core. This image reflects the recurring
motif of nakedness, and foreshadows the metamorphosis at the story s end. The Beast has a
mask like face like the Marquis. Beauty explained the mask to be too perfect for human nature
and could barely fit the Beast face. Poor relationship with her father, the heroine here has more
pride and anger than Beauty. Like the other female protagonists, this heroine is initially treated
as an object to be manipulated and gambled away. The Beast in this version is associated with a
tiger, a reminder of the heroine s mother in The Bloody Chamber. He also lives on a threshold
between the worlds of wild animals and humans. The heroine s longing for the wild innocence
of horses prefigures her later transformation. The symbol of the rose begins to grow more
complex here. It is not just a symbol of the heroine s purity and virginity, as it also has thorns
showing the pain of her objectification, but also her own fierceness and pride. The Erl King
will return in a later story as another metamorphic figure who controls the wind and captures
young women. Carter muses on the nature of her beasts, how there is a horror in living life on
the threshold, but also that there is a kind of beastliness that is internal as well as external. This
is another picture of decaying luxury, but the state of The Beast s mansion implies that he has let
his wild animal nature take over, and he has little care for keeping up the appearances of a
nobleman. Carter never fully describes her beasts, allowing them to inhabit a fantastic world where

Crohn s Disease In Cow Milk
Briefly, The physiological breakdown of two cow milk proteins casein and lactoglobulin to amino
acids is abnormal, forming a powerful opioid, casomorphin. If the formation of the opioid that
cause the brain symptoms but if continued for years will eventually cause permanent brain damage,
creating a window of opportunity to cure autism at an early age. Because cow milk caseins produce
enough opioid to completely remove cow milk and its products from the diet to alleviate the
symptoms. The symptoms are then removed but the children are still ill. Camel milk does not
contain the two caseins responsible for the formation of the opioid and rehabilitates the immune
system, so doing curing the autism. [9]
Crohn s Disease : Scientific evidence indicates that it is not primarily an autoimmune disease but
rather a bacterial infection caused by Johne s Disease in cows, the bacteria being MAP
(Mycobacterium avium paratuberculosis). The symptoms of these cows are identical to those of
persons with Crohn s Disease. It has been established that MAP passes into cow milk and is not
destroyed by pasteurization. The MAP then enters the intestinal tissue as a saprophyte, not creating
any symptoms. A very severe emotional stress activates the MAP and it becomes active in the
intestinal tissue. The reaction of the body is to send antibodies to the intestines but as they can not
pass into the thick tissue they attack the intestines themselves, creating an autoimmune disease.

The Dred Scott decision was a landmark Supreme Court decision on slavery in 1857. Dred Scott
was a slave who sued for his freedom after living in Illinois and Wisconsin Territory where

Supreme Court was to decide three questions: should a black person be considered a citizen and

The Reality Of Television Entertainment
Reality T.V. is defined as a genre of television entertainment that portrays real life situations that
serves to entertain rather than inform. One of the first reality T.V. shows to air was the Dutch,

interactions between each other were documented. A few years later, shows such as Survivor and

During its infancy, Reality T.V. served only 2 purposes; to entertain and make money. As the years

Iris Patterns
Sarah Heimann
Mr. Hickey
PLS 3410 01
14 November 2017
Iris Patterns As time moves along and society becomes more technological, more techniques of
solving crime with advanced technology are practiced. Not only can we solve crime with
fingerprints and behavioral characteristics such as gait, voice, signature and odor, but we can also
solve crime with the use of iris recognition. Iris recognition is a biometric identification method of
identifying individuals based on their iris patterns. It has slowly been emerging, since 1994 into
biometric technology as an alternate means to do the same job as fingerprinting. This paper will
go into quite a bit of detail on the iris recognition system and explain the development of the iris
and what the iris s function is for the eye and answer the questions that follow: are there any
changes to the iris between birth and adulthood or even after death, how does the iris recognition
system operate and what countries, if any, are currently exercising the use of the iris recognition
system and how is it working out for them, is the iris recognition system reliable and do contacts
and glasses effect the system in any way, and finally, can iris recognition be applied to an iris after
death?
First, one may be wondering what the function of the iris is in the eye. The iris is the plainly
visible colored ring shaped membrane behind the cornea made entirely of connective tissues,
smooth muscle fibers and pigments. It begins to form in the third month of gestation
(development in the womb). The pigments of the eye are made of melanin (the same pigment
that gives skin its color). The amount of pigment in the eye is what gives the eye its color. Lack
of pigment gives one no color at all. These are the pink eyes of albinisms. Very little pigment
gives the eye a blue color and then in increasing amounts of pigment give one green, hazel, and
finally brown. The iris also controls the amount of light that reaches the retina. It has an adjustable
round opening in the center that is called a pupil. It is responsible for controlling the diameter and
size of that pupil. With the help of the pupil, the iris s function is to regulate the amount of light that
gets into the eye. Too much or not

Essay On Johann Sebastian Bach
Johann Sebastian Bach was born in Eisenach, Germany in 1685, as the youngest of eight
children. Bach was a product of one of the greatest musical family s, and would become one of
the most influenceial composers of all time. Bach lived in the heart of the reformation era and
believe that all music should be to the glory of God and for the recreation of the mind. His father
was a great trumpeter/violinist; his brothers were organists and keyboarders, to which Bach drew
most of his influence and education. Bach was a member of the Lutheran faith and a great fan of
the works and beliefs of Martin Luther. Bach tried to give depth and color to church music as he
successfully added dimension to God s word. With the death of his mom in 1694 and his dad one
year later in 1695, Johann Sebastian Bachfound himself alone and abandoned at the age of ten.

In his compositions he gave no mind to breaks or regular breathing intervals for vocalists,
demanding only the best from everyone always. His largest and most celebrated work, Mass in
B Minor, was the majority of his most famous works which remained unperformed in his
lifetime. Bach was able to use the best melodies and vocal standards from both secular and
sacred music to create masterful works all for the glory of God. Although blind in the last two years
of his life he was still able to compose and did so right up until his death in 1750. His last fugue
was filled with all of the greatest parts of his style but seems to end abruptly just as his life did.

Analysis Of The Movie Amistad
Amistad was released in 1997 on the territory of the United States of America. The historical
period, portrayed in the film, is the year of 1839. It was the year when a terrible rebellion took
place on board the Spanish ship La Amistad, which transported slaves. It was the time when the
slavery was abolished in the North and the South of the United States of America was
discontented for they severely needed slaves to work for them. American courts still decide
whether the black person is free according to the place he comes from. The trial over the rebels
from La Amistad asks the main question: Are these rebels slaves or free people? . The free
giving North and the enslaving South were already opposing each other and their relations were
rather problematic. The incident became a scandal as it truly reflected the conflict of that time.
According to the American laws back then only Africans could be considered free people. The
story takes place in the time gap before the Civil War, which lasted from 1861 till 1865. Amistad
is a true story about the slaves that try to go back to their motherland Sierra Leone. La Amistad
is the name of a Spanish vessel with 53 African slaves on board the ship. Steven Spielberg
directed the film and the main motivation of the author was showing that every single person, not
depending on the color of skin has the right to be free. In other words each person is born free and
nobody can take this freedom away from him. According to

Analysis Of Hiroshima Exit By Joy Kogawa
Born in Vancouver, Canada, in 1935, Joy Kogawa is a Nisei second generation Japanese Canadian
and a celebrated poet. During World War 2, many Japanese Canadians, including Kogawa, were
evacuated and forced into the internment camps. Hiroshima Exit , one of Kogawa s poem ,
accentuates the devastation of the atomic bombing during the war. A Japanese Descendent visits
the Atomic Bomb Memorial Building where she witnesses the horror and destruction from the
Hiroshima bombing. It is clear that the war inflicted great destruction, and much damage was
attributed to past actions. Kogawa uses personification, conflicts, and symbolism to show that
instead of clinging onto the harsh past, one needs to have hope in order to create better prospect in
the future. Firstly, Kogawa uses personification to show the dreadful mood that takes place. When
the American tourists are blaming the Japanese, the words jingle down (Kogawa1). The meaning of
this personification is to examine the confusion of what is happening, which means that the
innocent civilians do not know what is happening or what they have done wrong. Also, when the

endlessness. This is similar to the feeling of those in conflict, who feel like they fight a war with
no end; only constant retaliation. However, once leaving the building, the speaker reiterates
Believing, believing (27) which changes these feelings to hope. This implies the speaker s
realization of the possibility of a future unlike the past filled with peace. The only escape from this
endless cycle of retaliation is the ability to accept, forgive, and move

The Voting Rights Act
On June 25, 2013, the Supreme Court made its final decision on the Shelby County, Alabama v
Holder, deeming Section 4 of the Voting Rights Act, passed by Congress in 1965 and extended
several times, unconstitutional. Section 5, although not being struck down, became insignificant
without its triggering formula, Section 4, to determine the coverage. This Supreme Court decision
took away the key parts of the Voting Rights Act, which was an important method for the federal
government to oversee and enforce the enfranchisement of African Americans in some states. While
justifying their decision, the Court mentioned that Section 4 only applied to specific states and it
was against the idea of equal sovereignty of all states in the Constitution. What is more, the
Congress justification of these unequal actions towards those states in 2006, was based on 40 year
old data showing that it was still an exceptional condition, which cannot reflect the current
situations and needs of the country. The decision made by the Supreme Court was unjust. On the
contrary to the Court s decision, the Voting Rights Act is still extremely important and is needed
even wider today, the 21st century, to realize the promises of equality in the U.S. Declaration of
Independence and Constitution. The Act played a very important role in increasing black voter
rates and against voting dilutions during its service. As discrimination is still a common ideology

During Reagan s presidency in the 1980 s the Secretary of Education reported that education in the
United States was very poor. The publication of this report enhanced the publics concerns about
education. This was the beginning of the gradual process of making educational changes based on
research evidence instead of unproven and ineffective teaching practices.

B.Why were the Common Core Standards developed?
The Common Core Standards were developed in order to create a clear and consistent message of
what students are expected to learn and know at the end of each grade level so educators and
parents will know what they need to do in order to help them prepare to be career and/or college
ready.
C.Explain the goal of the CCSS and how they have shaped current educational thinking. The goal of
the Common Core State Standards is to prepare students for college and work expectations and help
them compete and succeed in a global economy and society. Furthermore, this policy has shaped
current educational thinking by providing established learning standards with rigorous content and
application of higher knowledge through higher order thinking skills.
D.Discuss how the CCSS were reverse engineered and set higher standards for students.
The Common Core State Standards are reverse engineered because they begin with the end in
mind meaning the creators started with what is expected of college and career ready high school
seniors and built the standards down from there. The creators of the standards seemed to have
followed the recommendations in a book called, Seven Habits of Highly Effective People that was
written by Steven Covey. They have set higher standards for students because the content

indicates that Jim and Della chose wisely when giving each other presents and found something of

What Are The Six Principles Of Persuasion
This assignment is about the six principles of persuasion. A situation will also be described, either
real or fiction, where I have used these principles. The six principles of persuasion are reciprocity ,
scarcity , authority , commitment and consistency , consensus , and liking (McLean, S., 2010).
Reciprocity is the obligation/duty that people feel to give back to others who gave them something.
The things which are given can be anything. For example, politicians, when they are campaigning
before an election, can help people by giving them food, money, things, etc, so that they can return
the favor by voting for them. Businesses also help the community so that they can persuade the
people to return the favor by doing business with them.
Scarcity is the limitation in the amount of resources. In business, scarcity is used to make people ...

in the sense that I always liked him and he was my friend. So, he likes me back that s why he
came to me and bought it. I used scarcity in the sense that I told him that if he does get it, it won t
be there the following day. I used authority in the sense that I was confident in the wellness of the
phone and I know a lot about phones. The other principle I have used is reciprocity, in that I used
to do favors for him like changing the phone settings in the past. Consensus was also used in that I
told him that people who buy from me never come back to complain that I sold them a damaged
product/phone. I also used commitment and consistency in that I gave him the phone before paying

The Design Of Le Rousseau And The Repast Of The Lion
While examining artwork, there are four different categories to discuss: description, analysis,

Analysis Of Susan Bordo s Globalization Of Eating...
Demi Lovato once said, I m not going to sacrifice my mental health to have the perfect body.
However, today we find that many individuals are doing the completely opposite. In Susan Bordo

they are concerned of what people may think about them. Americans nowadays have pageants,
modeling, and media to thank for this absurd notion. Fit women, along with strong men give this

understood world. It is noted for a very high incidence of unexplained losses of ships, small boats,
and aircraft. The tips of the triangle are generally thought to be Bermuda, Miami, Fla., and San
Juan, Puerto Rico. Many theories attempting to explain the many disappearances have been offered
throughout the history of the area. The most practical seem to be environmental and those that
involve human error. Some reports even go as far as to saying that there are UFO s kidnapping
ships and planes, and that the lost city of Atlantis ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Apparently Taylor had become confused at some point in the flight. He was an experienced
pilot, but hadn t spent a lot of time flying east toward the Bahamas, which was where he was
going on that day. For some reason Taylor thought the flight had started out in the wrong
direction and had headed south toward the Keys, instead of east. By 4:45 P.M. it was obvious to
the people on the ground that Taylor was hopelessly lost. He was urged to turn control of the
flight over to one of his students, but apparently he didn t. As it grew dark, communications
disappeared. From the few words that did get through it was apparent Taylor was still flying north
and east, the wrong directions. Later on a Dumbo Flying Boat was dispatched to try and find
Flight 19 and guide it back. Within the hour two more planes, Martin Mariners, joined the search.
Not only was Flight 19 never found the Two Martin Mariners were never found either. (2)
Another mysterious disappearance that is strange to researchers is the SS Marine Sulphur Queen.

Abnormal Psychology Labels
As humans we like to place labels on everything. In order to define, describe, or just to pin point
something out. The majority of us humans are guilty of using words such as normal , abnormal ,
crazy , psychotic , and dysfunctional to describe people we see behaving in a certain manner.
Behavior of an individual usually tends to be the main source from which these labels derive.
While placing these labels on various behaviors we forget some factors, which are culture, values,
and personal perspective. As a society we are so quick to judge, especially the American society.
As part of the American society we tend to be very quick to place a label on behaviors. For
example, in my undergraduate career I took a course called abnormal Psychology . The first day of
the course the instructor made it very clear that there was no such thing as normal , and abnormal .

On the other hand, I have to think about a few things. Why do we have the DSM 5, courses such
as abnormal psychology, and most importantly why do the terms normal and abnormal or health
and dysfunctional exists? All of these labels do not exist for any apparent, if they did not exists
as a previous instructor of mine said, or are challenging to label. Then the field of psychology
would be inexistent. A major part of the field is due to the mental disorders people have, which
have already been labeled. These disorders were labeled in order for clinicians, or professional to
do three things: place a label, find the structure of treatment, and treat the disorder. This system
here is the whole focus of the DSM in general. As for the course abnormal psychology that was
taken during my undergrad career, we touch bases on various brain disorders that were not normal
for the average mentally stable human. The terms abnormal , normal , health and dysfunction do
exist due to the previous reasons listed

The Devil And Daniel Webster Analysis
Most citizens have never thought about the devil who captures the souls of the dead. In the short
story, The Devil and Daniel Webster , by Stephen Vincent Benet is about a devil who captures
the souls of the dead. Jabez Stones is a male who lived in Cross Corners, New Hampshire.
Throughout Jabez Stone s life, Jabez Stone was an unfortunate man. If Jabez planted corn, he
would get borers; if Jabez planted potatoes on his land, he would get blight. Since Jabez Stone was
an unfortunate man, Jabez had good enough land that did not prosper him. When Jabez Stone has
enough of his unfortunate life, Jabez sold his soul to the devil. When the day got darker, Jabez Stone
saw a stranger with bright white teeth. Jabez Stone, later on, encounters the

Difference Between Voluntary And Voluntary Resignation Of...
Voluntary versus forced resignation of directors Voluntary resignation of directors A termination
of employment initiated by the employee or by mutual agreement with the employer in which a
letter of resignation is submitted. In most cases of voluntary termination, employees will
provide notice of their intent to resign to allow for a more orderly transition of responsibilities.
Forced resignation of directors A forced resignation is when an employee is required to depart
from their position due to some issue caused by their continued employment. A forced
resignation may be due to the employer s wishes to dismiss the employee, but the employer may
be offering a softened firing. In a high profile position the employee may want to leave before the
press learns more negative information about one s controversial nature. Differences between
voluntary and forced resignation Agency One of the biggest difference between voluntary and
forced resignation is who gives the resignation of employment. Both voluntary and forced
resignation signify that the employment will end, but when someone is forced to resign it means
that the employer has decided to sever the employment. The employer can sever employment for
any reason, so long as it is not based on issues of race, religion or the sex of the employee. The
employee can be cut for various reasons such as a new employment opportunity. Notice Whether or
not the employer of employee gives notice to the other party regarding the

Why Are Hawaiian Animals Endangered
Imagine that Hawaii the tropical 50th state is losing all of it s natural animal species because
either animals had to migrate here or be brought over here by humans for a purpose which
causes new or exotic invasive species to kill off many of the local endemic animals on Hawaii.
Hawaii has lost many native animal species, including bird, reptile, and mammal species due to the
very dangerous invading animals that cause countless problems such as predation, environmental
harm, or human health issues. Throughout the years, many native animals are declining because
of many reasons and that is why preserving Hawaiian species is a worldwide problem. The
purpose of this paper is to share the history of why most of these animals are endangered through
factual evidence. First, the Monk Seal (Monachus schauinslandi) or Ilio holo I ka uaua is the only

Majoring In Business
The area of study that I am drawn to is business. I remember in elementary school when my
teacher asks me what I would like to be, my first responds was to become a teacher. All through
Elementary school I keep up with this dream that I would one day become a teacher until I
realized that I did not like kids as much. In middle school, I was encouraging to become a lawyer.
A lawyer was something that I thought would fit for me because I am good at debating different
topics. With the help of research, I learned that become a lawyer required a lot of writing. Writing is
something that I struggle with which cause me to doubt my potential of become a great lawyer. My

Hiroshima and Nagasaki the untold story Essay example
Hiroshima and Nagasaki the untold story On August 6th 1945, the first Atomic Bomb, Little Boy,
was dropped on Hiroshima, and three days later on August 9th 1945, the second atomic bomb, Fat
Man, was dropped on Nagasaki, Japan s industrial capital. The decision to use the Atomic Bomb
against Japan was a poor one considering the damage, the devastation, and the amount of people left
dead, injured, or suffering the loss of a family member or a friend, all for the sakeof quickly ending
the ongoing War. When the Japanese had realized that they were the only ones left in the war,
Germany their ally, was already beaten out of the war and all efforts were now concentrated at
them, the Japanese began suing for a peaceful end to the war.... Show more content on

The retention of the Emperor was crucial to the surrender, as the Japanese believed their
Emperor was a god, the heart of the people and the culture (Long). This Japanese belief is a part
of a tradition that dates back to 660 B.C. when the first Japanese Emperor, Jimmu, who
according to legend was a descendant of the sun god, Amaterasu. So there fore, according to the
tradition, the emperor during this time, Hirohito, was said to be a divine being. It is for this
reason that the Japanese sued for peace based on the Atlantic Charter of 1941 that was drafted up
by Roosevelt and Churchill on August 4th, 1941. According to the Atlantic Charter, every nation
could choose its own form of government, thus, if Japan were to surrender based on these terms,
they would be able to retain the emperor, their God (Alperovitz). However, when the United States
offered a peace agreement based on Unconditional Surrender, the Japanese refused this offer as no
provisions had been made for their Emperor. As Leon V. Sigal states,
...one point was clear to senior [United States] officials, regardless of where they stood on war
termination... the critical condition for Japanese surrender was the assurance that the throne would
be preserved
(Alperovitz 31).
It turns out that the unconditional surrender clause of the peace agreement was the major factor
that hindered Japanese surrender at this point in the war.

The American Society Moves Forward Into The Contemporary Era
As the American society moves forward into the contemporary era, advertising grew from small
telecast into an argument and suggestion. It is utilized as a form of communication in order to
encourage, persuade, or manipulate a broad audience ( What is the Purpose ). A prominent example
could include advertisements on Television for universities and institutes such as University of
Phoenix and Grand Canyon University. These advertisements, explicitly targeting students, are
attempting to promote the idea of the American dream in the society, which is the notion of every
U.S. citizen having an equal opportunity to achieve wealth, success, and happiness through hard
work and perseverance by attending these particular schools. A majority of Americans perceive a
college education as the ticket to the American dream ( Student Loan Debt ). The interpretations
portrayed ,from these college advertisements, grants the observer a window into American beliefs
about the idea of the American dream in society and the false perceptions of it. A primary example
can be seen in Mantsios s Class in America 2009 article, where he talks about a common
misconception that the United States is a fundamentally classless society (Mantsios 624). The
advertisements claim that the American dream is obtainable by attending these particular schools
and getting an education because every person has an equal opportunity, however, that is not the
reality of it. The notion of the American dream is a myth

A Comparison OfThe Legends Of King Arthur And Merlin
The King Arthur story takes on many perceptions and interpretations. These perceptions and
interpretations can be very different. The show Merlin is an adaptation of the King Arthur story but
Merlin is the main hero in the story not King Arthur. In the book, The Legends of King Arthur and
His Knights, the main hero is King Arthurnot Merlin. These two versions both incorporate King
Arthur s last battle but are both very different. Merlin and The Legends of King Arthur and His
Knights are different by Merlin tries to save King Arthur from dying but in the The Legends of
King Arthur and His Knights Merlin is not even mentioned.
The death of Arthur is different in both texts because the show wants to appeal to a bigger
audience. The main difference is that in The Legends of King Arthur, Arthur dies right after he
gets stabbed from Modred, but in the show Merlin, he lives for a another couple of days while
Merlin tries to find the place where Arthur will be saved. Merlin showed Arthur s death the way
it did because they wanted the audience to be on edge. In the show, Merlin is the main hero and
reveals that he has magical powers to Arthur while Arthur is dying. In the book Merlin is never
mentioned and never was this close to Arthur. The show focuses on Merlin being the main hero
because they wanted to portray that a common day person can be a hero. Merlin has magical
powers and the show is based off of these magical powers. For example, in the middle of King

population. The time has come to change these statistics. It is the 21st century and we, as humans,
now have the technology and resources to reverse these terrible numbers. There are two arguments
on what we should do with this new technology, however. One side, researched by a science policy
analyst, stated that biotechnology still has kinks to be worked out and is not the best way to
combat world hunger. Another side by a AgBioWorld Foundation vice president and a world

Next, the authors write about how food has been modified throughout the years. They use the
example of cultivated rice, wheat, corn, soy, potatoes, and tomatoes have very little in common
with their ancestors. They use this example to go on to reveal that genetically modifying foods is
nothing more than hybridization, or the mating of different plants of the same species to
integrate the desired traits from several different varieties into a leading variety. The authors use
the example of the tomato and how it is commonly bred with wild tomatoes to make the plant
more resistant to pathogens, nematodes, and fungi while eradicating any unwanted traits from the
wild plant such as toxins. This example, as a whole is a brilliant use of ethos. It displays that
genetically modified foods are healthy and safe because it compares this new technology to a
technique that has been done for thousands of years that has never been thought of as dangerous.
More importantly, this comparison shows that the authors are credible and that they use their
evidence wisely and correctly. Biotechnology is not just a new fad. Prakash and Conko stated,
And a review of 81 separate research projects conducted over 15 years all funded by the European
Union found that bioengineered crops and foods are at least as safe for the environment and for
human consumption as conventional crops, and in some cases even safer. (Prakash and Conko 359)

Publication And Dissemination Biases In Survey Research
Chapter 6 of Advertising and Society an Introduction presents both an argument and
counterargument for alcohol advertising. One argument in favor of alcohol advertising is titled
Publication and Dissemination Biases in Survey Research. Often, results from these studies are
skewed for drinking onset and behavior. Sometimes investigators even distort the results of a paper
s conclusion or abstract. In an examination of 15 studies about adolescent drinking and advertising,
all of them presented distorted views. An example was a nationwide survey by Fleming and
colleagues which found that exposures to liquor ads on billboards and in magazines are unrelated to
alcohol expectancies, youths intentions to drink, and alcohol use by young adults (Blackwell 93).
Additionally, beer advertisements have been found to have a negative association with alcohol
expectancies. Exposure to alcohol... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Running Head: YORKTOWN TECHNOLOGIES CASE ANALYSIS
Yorktown Technologies Case Analysis
Case Recap
Founded in 2001, Yorktown Technologies, Inc. is a company that specializes in the ornamental fish
industry. The globalization of the ornamental fish industry happened over a half a century ago.
Hundreds of freshwater and saltwater fish can be purchased as pets in virtually any industrialized
nation in the world (Broy, 2011). Yorktown Technologies commercializes a genetically modified
fish called GloFish, which appear to glow in the dark (Mueller, 2010). GloFish are zebrafish that
have been genetically modified with fluorescent colors. They are the first genetically modified
animals to become publicly available as pets ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fish are not available in California due to state regulations that ban biotech aquatic organisms
(GloFish, 2011). In addition, Singapore where the fish was originally engineered has been reluctant
to approve its sale (Ely, 2004). This places an additional limit on potential marketing and
distribution strategies.
Yorktown Technologies will launch the first commercially available fish that has been genetically
modified. They will be available in the United States in late 2003. They will be available in three
colors: red, green, and orange (GloFish, 2011).
Yorktown Technologies has an exclusive product and market niche. The company has a substantial
number of patents and patent pending applications for GloFish (GloFish, 2011). In addition, the
production, market, and distribution of fluorescent fish are strictly prohibited without the approval
of Yorktown Technologies (GloFish, 2011). This gives the company a monopoly on fluorescent fish
and makes it impossible for other companies to produce, market, and distribute them.
Identifying the Root Problem Components
Yorktown Technologies have several issues that may affect marketing and distribution. The issues
are geographical distribution, production, supply and demand, environmental concerns, and retail
outlets.
First, GloFish are not approved for distribution and sale in California. California is an

Persuasive Speech On Social Justice
When you walk down the street in a big city like Los Angeles or San Francisco, I think you
would immediately spot a crowd of triggered protesters shouting He s not my president! waving
signs like No one is illegal and you are welcome here . Piercings and dyed hair bedeck their heads
and sensory orifices. Dressed in showy, heterodox clothes, their appearance screams Notice me
and what I want from the USA ! I know, don t get me wrong , what they re fighting for is
completely justifiable. After all, they are probably scared of getting deported or harassed in the
streets due to their religious faith. Personally, I think that the aforementioned Social Justice
Warriors are taking things a bit too far and using mostly their primal emotions instead of facts.
Earlier in my life I wouldn t have cared; but recently I have discovered something called
Alternative right, or Alt right for short. One of the values that they have is the importance of
facts over feelings. This value is very important to me since I try to analyze what happens both
in fiction and real life. Today I m going to show you how this has influenced me both politically
and in everyday life. The Alt Right has impacted me in my everyday life. One study by CNN s
Eric Metaxas has shown that Generation Z ( I.e. today s teenagers), is the most conservative
generation since the GI s that fought during World War II. Eric goes on to say that Millennials
were raised in a time of roaring prosperity, when video cassettes were a bigger influence than
digital technology, and many came of age before the age of radical Islamic terror . Gen Z kids by
contrast, have never known life without the Internet and have grown up surrounded by access to
the world s harsh realities on their smartphones. ( The Next Generation of Americans...) This is
significant in my life because I am a teenager; the next generation of people who ll have children in
the future. To hear that I am a conservative rather than a liberal, which most people expect
youngsters to politically lean to not only shocks me, but succeeds to amaze me. It shatters
stereotypes about youth which I and many others have grown up with. Youngsters valuing
American tradition and dealing with harsh realities (

Comparing the Presentation of War in the Oliver and Branagh Film Versions of Henry the Fifth
Many films have been made of Shakespeare s play, Henry V . The two I am analysing are by
Laurence Olivier (1944) and Kenneth Branagh (1988). They are made for very different
audiences with different aims. Although they seem very different, in some ways, Branagh s
version used many techniques of Olivier s. Both productions were performed to communicate
the director s feelings on war to the audience and were performed when war had played a part in
recent history. Olivier s version is very pro war in that he glorifies war but at the same time it
lacks realism so that it was not too close to the reality that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The spirit of whose ancestors it has been humbly attempted to recapture. This is intended to
make the audience feel proud to be fighting for England as their ancestors did. Being produced
during the Second World War, many of the viewers may have had relatives out in battle. They
had no clear idea of the reality due to the lack of technology and communication. The light
hearted view of the battles reassured the audience. It is shown very patriotically and heroically
so the audiences would feel good about the war and have felt proud to be English. The French in
this film may have represented the Germans in the war as the enemy. In the battle the enemy is
shown as evil to make the audience feel they re doing the right thing fighting evil. Branagh s film
was set many years later when society was more immune to shocking films and television
programmes. He presents a dynamic king duped into fighting a bloody, vicious war whose victory
is undone within a generation. Olivier s version is quite pro war whereas Branagh s version seems
very anti war. This film portrays his negative attitude to war by emphasising the realism of the
battle. The gore and realistic fighting will have shocked the audience and may have allowed them
to consider the conditions in Vietnam. For example in the battle of Agincourt, the close up
individual fighting will have made

  • 2. Rational Decision For Making Rational Decisions The ability for one to make rational decisions is vital, and this is especially true for decisions that can have enormous consequences. The process for making rational decisions is tedious, it requires one to have the opportunity to deeply process, evaluate, and re evaluate available options. This suggests that rational decisions must be made in the absence of external parties because external influences are capable of preventing individuals from processing information for themselves. Otherwise, this would likely result in the individual coming to rash conclusions that cater to the external parties. Unfortunately, under most circumstances, it is a challenge to make rational decisions, because as social animals, we constantly expose... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this essay, I will demonstrate that social factors such as media propaganda and conformity, as well as personal factors which include schemas and aggression management, are the main forces that had driven me into being irrational while I was filling out the survey. Social factors like media propaganda and conformity have prevented me from answering the survey questions rationally. In the aftermath of the tragic event in France on November 13th, there was extensive media coverage on the incident, and the likelihood for future terrorist attack became the hottest topic amongst my family and friends. The media often portrays itself as an objectively neutral source of information, and by doing so they are able to persuade their viewers more effectively. Furthermore, the effectiveness of media propaganda drastically increases if emotional appeals are incorporated in the messages. This can be observed in a study which shows that smokers who got frightened when watching a film on the dangers of smoking, were more likely to quit smoking, and in this case, the media is making use of my fear (Leventhal 1970). Different forms of media, e.g. news on television, newspaper, online news articles, and talk shows, all painted the Syrian refugees as potential threats to our safety. For example, in one article, a journalist discusses the potential danger we would be in if terrorists were to pose as Syrian refugees and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This will allow management to pull information from sales, inventory, billing and total revenue. The data is endless; the true challenge comes from pulling information that will allow us to make decisions that lead to our strategic goals of larger market shares. I have discussed what most management would consider the backbone of business intelligence software, data management that allows us to run queries and report the queries for managing and production purposes. Information delivery is also a capability that comes from business intelligence software, information delivery can come in the form of emails that are programmed to deliver specified queries on a given day of the week or month or even daily. These same queries can be web based allowing associates to access pertinent information anywhere in the world they might be with internet access. In the wild, sea wormwood grows along the seashore in Europe and Asia. Wormwood is a hardy plant that can tolerate drought, maritime exposures and temperatures as low as 15C. It has a sweet lavender like smell but is very bitter to the taste. It is easy to identify from a distance by its silver gray colour. It is a flowering plant, growing close to two metres high. I grow this plant in light sandy, medium loamy, salty soil that is well drained but moist with a pH of 6 to 7.6. I keep it in full sunlight. I sow the seeds from late winter to early summer in my greenhouse. I must ensure that the compost does not dry out. When they are large enough to handle, I plant the seedlings into individual pots. There can up to 50,000 seeds on each stem which are viable for three to fours years! I keep them in the greenhouse during their first winter. In the late spring to early summer of their next year, I plant them outside. The plants must be planted two feet apart. I prune half of the ripe wood in July or August and divide the plants in the spring or the fall. They regrow from ground level each spring. It is difficult to manage wormwood once it is established, as it reduces biodiversity. This plant is poisonous in large qualities and must be kept out of the reach of children and pets. Language is used in various ways, such as to express internalized thoughts and emotions, to learn to communicate with others and as well as to establish and maintain cultures. Currently, the world of the 21st century is an Anglophone world, meaning that it is an English speaking world. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Why is English considered as a sexist language? There are various reasons why English is still considered as a sexist language. One of the major reasons is because of the connotation. The word engineer can be applied to both sexes, male and female. However, people habitually apply the word engineer only with male because of its connotation. Consequently, when referring to a woman, you have to add the word female before engineer. Also in the English language, there are many words that are evidently male oriented such as, congressman and mailman. Moreover, some nouns of feminine gender can only be obtained by adding a suffix to masculine gendered nouns such as, prince and princess and steward and stewardess. Not only because of sexism in words, but sexism in proverbs also suggest English as a patriarchal language. The proverb, a woman is like a lemon; you squeeze her and throw her away, certainly shows disrespectfulness and discriminates women in a very insulting manner. Comparison of Homer and Virgil’s Tragic Hero Comparison of Homer and Virgil s Tragic Hero Homer, an ancient Greek epic poet, influenced many writers in the ancient Greek and Roman culture, particularly Virgil. Virgil, most famous for his epic poem The Aeneid demonstrates Homer s influence through similar characters, mythology, and ideals. Homer in both his most famous works the Iliad and The Odyssey weaves poetry based on centuries worth of oral stories handed down and uses a sophisticated style of writing that is still recognized today. Although the tragic hero is defined slightly differently in modern text than ancient Greek and Roman works, Aristotle defined a tragic hero in his work Poetics as the character between these two extremes, that of a man who is not eminently good ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Homer used pride as the tragic flaw that Achilles learned to overcome, whereas Virgil used a sense of duty as Aeneas s tragic flaw. Homer portrayed Achilles as arrogant because he allowed his men to fight a battle he knew they could not win without him. Achilles asked his mother for Zeus to favor the Trojans so that he could regain the honor that he felt Agamemnon stripped away. Aeneas s tragic flaw unlike Achilles was his sense of duty, which in turn he encountered pitfalls during his escape from Troy. Achilles battled for personal glory and his own honor as a warrior whereas Aeneas spent his time attempting to fulfill his mission, which forced him to invade and conquer, a duty given to him by the gods. Virgil unites and conjoins all the virtues in the formation of his hero: He gives him religion towards the gods, piety towards his country, tenderness and friendship towards his relations, and equity and justice towards all (Rapin). On the contrary, Homer magnified the tragic flaw in Achilles, which cost him his sanity because he became obsessive with revenge. Although Aeneas s flaw appears minor in comparison to Achilles, it led him to be an instrument of gods, which in turn destroyed innocent lives. Mercury appeared to Aeneas to remind him of his mission and told him, Oblivious of your own world, your own kingdom...He [Zeus] and no other sent me to you...Think of the ... The purpose of the current study is to examine the relationship between exercise dependence and self determined motivation. An online survey was conducted used 185 participants with a mean age of 20.22 years (117 females and 73 males) enrolled in Kinesiology 2276 at Western University. The survey consisted of the Godin Leisure Time Exercise Questionnaire (Godin Shepard, 1985), the Exercise Dependence Scale (Hausenblas Symons Downs, 2002), and the Behavioural Regulation in Exercise Quesitonnaire 2 (Markland Tobin, 2004). Results were collected and analyzed with the use of the statistical software program SPSS v.20.0. In this paper, I will be reviewing two films that focus on the famous external southern style, Wing Chun. The films are Wing Chun (1994) and Ip Man (2008). Before analyzing the films, we should briefly look at the directors and actors, and description of the film franchise. The first film is Wing Chun which came out in 1994, after the television series of the same name, was directed by Woo Ping Yuen. After some wise words from her master and clearing the misunderstanding with Leung Pok To, she returned to the mountains and eventually defeated the leader of the bandits. The movie ended with the marriage of childhood sweethearts, Wing Chun and Leung Pok To. The film did not allude to a lot of historical events which mirrors what we know about the origin of Wing Chun as they mostly consisted of stories passed down by word of mouth. The most popular legend states that Yim Wing Chun learned martial arts from a Buddhist nun from the Shaolin temple to escape marriage from a thug, and passed the practice on to her husband. The film focused on retelling Wing Chun s various victories. The storytelling style used in the film matches the style of old legends , which means that the film placed emphasis on the incredulous fights, impossible jumps and supernatural abilities and pills. It also portrayed clichГ© story lines with a group of bandits wreaking havoc and saving a damsel in distress (Charmy). All of this sums up to an epic story of a hero, with martial arts just as an additional part of the story. The second film to be analyzed is Wilson Yip s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. A Sociological Issue On South Africa In South Africa race took a shift from biology to culture. Because is of its many diverse indigenous groups, race was no longer a difference between Afrikaners and the English but with Zulus, Xhosa and Tswanas. Language was used as a determinant of race. Dubow argues that not much scientifically constructed race has been done in South Africa despite the fact that race has deep seated roots. This is because many dismissed race as being scientific as it began to appear to be a sociological issue. Science was then pushed aside and race was now seen as a social and intellectual construct (Dubow, 1995: 2 5) from natural science to solely social science resulting from everyday experiences. When we say race is a social construct we disregard any possibility of it being that of a scientific one. It is not something that we are born with because of our culture (Erasmus, 2005: 9), instead, simply out, race is a bunch of meanings that we attach to people. We do not dispute the fact that there are differences among people. Those differences just run much deeper. By saying race is a social construct this is not to say that it doesn t exist seeing that it affects our lives; it determines our real life experiences. Saying it is socially constructed means that race is a learnt behaviour and what can be learnt can easily be unlearnt. We say it is constructed because it was used as a basis of division by powerful people who felt superior. Its implications as a construct are still very ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Beauty explained the mask to be too perfect for human nature and could barely fit the Beast face. Poor relationship with her father, the heroine here has more pride and anger than Beauty. Like the other female protagonists, this heroine is initially treated as an object to be manipulated and gambled away. The Beast in this version is associated with a tiger, a reminder of the heroine s mother in The Bloody Chamber. He also lives on a threshold between the worlds of wild animals and humans. The heroine s longing for the wild innocence of horses prefigures her later transformation. The symbol of the rose begins to grow more complex here. It is not just a symbol of the heroine s purity and virginity, as it also has thorns showing the pain of her objectification, but also her own fierceness and pride. The Erl King will return in a later story as another metamorphic figure who controls the wind and captures young women. Carter muses on the nature of her beasts, how there is a horror in living life on the threshold, but also that there is a kind of beastliness that is internal as well as external. This is another picture of decaying luxury, but the state of The Beast s mansion implies that he has let his wild animal nature take over, and he has little care for keeping up the appearances of a nobleman. Iris Patterns Sarah Heimann Mr. Hickey PLS 3410 01 14 November 2017 Iris Patterns As time moves along and society becomes more technological, more techniques of solving crime with advanced technology are practiced. Not only can we solve crime with fingerprints and behavioral characteristics such as gait, voice, signature and odor, but we can also solve crime with the use of iris recognition. Iris recognition is a biometric identification method of identifying individuals based on their iris patterns. It has slowly been emerging, since 1994 into biometric technology as an alternate means to do the same job as fingerprinting. This paper will go into quite a bit of detail on the iris recognition system and explain the development of the iris and what the iris s function is for the eye and answer the questions that follow: are there any changes to the iris between birth and adulthood or even after death, how does the iris recognition system operate and what countries, if any, are currently exercising the use of the iris recognition system and how is it working out for them, is the iris recognition system reliable and do contacts and glasses effect the system in any way, and finally, can iris recognition be applied to an iris after death? First, one may be wondering what the function of the iris is in the eye. The iris is the plainly visible colored ring shaped membrane behind the cornea made entirely of connective tissues, smooth muscle fibers and pigments. It begins to form in the third month of gestation (development in the womb). The pigments of the eye are made of melanin (the same pigment that gives skin its color). The amount of pigment in the eye is what gives the eye its color. Lack of pigment gives one no color at all. These are the pink eyes of albinisms. Very little pigment gives the eye a blue color and then in increasing amounts of pigment give one green, hazel, and finally brown. The iris also controls the amount of light that reaches the retina. It has an adjustable round opening in the center that is called a pupil. It is responsible for controlling the diameter and size of that pupil. With the help of the pupil, the iris s function is to regulate the amount of light that gets into the eye. Too much or not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

During World War 2, many Japanese Canadians, including Kogawa, were evacuated and forced into the internment camps. Hiroshima Exit , one of Kogawa s poem , accentuates the devastation of the atomic bombing during the war. A Japanese Descendent visits the Atomic Bomb Memorial Building where she witnesses the horror and destruction from the Hiroshima bombing. It is clear that the war inflicted great destruction, and much damage was attributed to past actions. Kogawa uses personification, conflicts, and symbolism to show that instead of clinging onto the harsh past, one needs to have hope in order to create better prospect in the future. Firstly, Kogawa uses personification to show the dreadful mood that takes place. When the American tourists are blaming the Japanese, the words jingle down (Kogawa1). The Voting Rights Act On June 25, 2013, the Supreme Court made its final decision on the Shelby County, Alabama v Holder, deeming Section 4 of the Voting Rights Act, passed by Congress in 1965 and extended several times, unconstitutional. Section 5, although not being struck down, became insignificant without its triggering formula, Section 4, to determine the coverage. This Supreme Court decision took away the key parts of the Voting Rights Act, which was an important method for the federal government to oversee and enforce the enfranchisement of African Americans in some states. While justifying their decision, the Court mentioned that Section 4 only applied to specific states and it was against the idea of equal sovereignty of all states in the Constitution. What is more, the Congress justification of these unequal actions towards those states in 2006, was based on 40 year old data showing that it was still an exceptional condition, which cannot reflect the current situations and needs of the country. A situation will also be described, either real or fiction, where I have used these principles. The six principles of persuasion are reciprocity , scarcity , authority , commitment and consistency , consensus , and liking (McLean, S., 2010). Reciprocity is the obligation/duty that people feel to give back to others who gave them something. The things which are given can be anything. For example, politicians, when they are campaigning before an election, can help people by giving them food, money, things, etc, so that they can return the favor by voting for them. According to the Atlantic Charter, every nation could choose its own form of government, thus, if Japan were to surrender based on these terms, they would be able to retain the emperor, their God (Alperovitz). Yorktown Technologies will launch the first commercially available fish that has been genetically modified. They will be available in the United States in late 2003. • 53. Persuasive Speech On Social Justice When you walk down the street in a big city like Los Angeles or San Francisco, I think you would immediately spot a crowd of triggered protesters shouting He s not my president! waving signs like No one is illegal and you are welcome here . Piercings and dyed hair bedeck their heads and sensory orifices. Dressed in showy, heterodox clothes, their appearance screams Notice me and what I want from the USA ! I know, don t get me wrong , what they re fighting for is completely justifiable. After all, they are probably scared of getting deported or harassed in the streets due to their religious faith. Personally, I think that the aforementioned Social Justice Warriors are taking things a bit too far and using mostly their primal emotions instead of facts. Earlier in my life I wouldn t have cared; but recently I have discovered something called Alternative right, or Alt right for short. One of the values that they have is the importance of facts over feelings. This value is very important to me since I try to analyze what happens both in fiction and real life. Today I m going to show you how this has influenced me both politically and in everyday life. The Alt Right has impacted me in my everyday life. One study by CNN s Eric Metaxas has shown that Generation Z ( I.e. today s teenagers), is the most conservative generation since the GI s that fought during World War II. Eric goes on to say that Millennials were raised in a time of roaring prosperity, when video cassettes were a bigger influence than digital technology, and many came of age before the age of radical Islamic terror . Gen Z kids by contrast, have never known life without the Internet and have grown up surrounded by access to the world s harsh realities on their smartphones. ( The Next Generation of Americans...) This is significant in my life because I am a teenager; the next generation of people who ll have children in the future. To hear that I am a conservative rather than a liberal, which most people expect youngsters to politically lean to not only shocks me, but succeeds to amaze me. It shatters stereotypes about youth which I and many others have grown up with. Youngsters valuing American tradition and dealing with harsh realities ( ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. Comparing the Presentation of War in the Oliver and... Comparing the Presentation of War in the Oliver and Branagh Film Versions of Henry the Fifth Many films have been made of Shakespeare s play, Henry V . The two I am analysing are by Laurence Olivier (1944) and Kenneth Branagh (1988). They are made for very different audiences with different aims. Although they seem very different, in some ways, Branagh s version used many techniques of Olivier s. Both productions were performed to communicate the director s feelings on war to the audience and were performed when war had played a part in recent history. Olivier s version is very pro war in that he glorifies war but at the same time it lacks realism so that it was not too close to the reality that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The spirit of whose ancestors it has been humbly attempted to recapture. This is intended to make the audience feel proud to be fighting for England as their ancestors did. Being produced during the Second World War, many of the viewers may have had relatives out in battle. They had no clear idea of the reality due to the lack of technology and communication. The light hearted view of the battles reassured the audience. It is shown very patriotically and heroically so the audiences would feel good about the war and have felt proud to be English. The French in this film may have represented the Germans in the war as the enemy. In the battle the enemy is shown as evil to make the audience feel they re doing the right thing fighting evil. Branagh s film was set many years later when society was more immune to shocking films and television programmes. He presents a dynamic king duped into fighting a bloody, vicious war whose victory is undone within a generation. Olivier s version is quite pro war whereas Branagh s version seems very anti war. This film portrays his negative attitude to war by emphasising the realism of the battle. The gore and realistic fighting will have shocked the audience and may have allowed them to consider the conditions in Vietnam. For example in the battle of Agincourt, the close up individual fighting will have made ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
