In this paper the author will describe the main aspects of the regulatory environment which will
protect the public from fraud within corporations. The author will pay special attention to the Sox
requirement; along with evaluating whether Sox will be effective in avoiding future frauds.
Regulatory environment consist of several laws and regulations that has been developed by federal,
state, and local governments in order to limit control over business practices. The regulatory
environment plays an important role in the positive operation of the financial sector and in the

Every year the SEC brings hundreds of civil enforcement actions against individuals and companies
for violations of the securities law. Some of the main infractions are: trading, accounting fraud, and
providing false or misleading information about the securities and the companies that issue them.
The SEC works closely with many other institutions, including Congress, other federal departments
and agencies, the self regulatory organizations (e.g. the stock exchanges), state securities
regulators, and various private sector organizations. In particular, the Chairman of the SEC,
together with the Chairman of the Federal Reserve, the Secretary of the Treasury, and the
Chairman of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, serves as a member of the President s
Working Group on Financial Markets (The Investors Advocate, 2013) . The SEC is one of the
main sources that helps protect the general public form fraud within a corporation. However, the
Sarbanes Oxley will play an important role with the SEC to help protect the public form fraud
within corporation. On July 30, 2002, the Sarbanes Oxley Act was developed to help protect the
public from fraud within corporation. However, it was created because positive solutions were
needed after the issues from fraudulent accounting practice. For example the Enron, Tyco, and

1a) Advantages of free international trade
1.Increasing the production.
Countries are enabled by free international trade to specialise or to focus in the production of the
goods in which they have a comparative advantage. Specialisation countries can take the benefit of
efficiencies generated from increased output and economies of trade. The size of the firm s market
are increased by the international trade which results in lower average costs and increasing in
productivity, as it ultimately leads to increase in production.
2.Production efficiencies.

With free international trade a lot of jobs will be created in the country, especially in industries of
manufacturing and services which can absorb the unemployment that created by restructuring as
firms down their workforce.
Disadvantages of free international trade.
1.Structural unemployment may occur in the short term with the removal of trade barriers. This
will have impact on large numbers of workers, as well as their families and local economies. In
growth industries workers often will have difficulties to find employment.
2.Business, consumers and employees are more weak to downturns in the economies of trading
partners. For example, recession in the USA leads to decrease in demand for UK s exports,
leading to falling in export incomes, lower GDP and incomes, decrease in domestic demand and
rising in unemployment.
3.Some of the countries with surplus commodities may dumb them on international markets at a
low price. Under such conditions, some of the efficient industries can might find difficulties in
competing for long period. Furthermore, countries whose economies are mostly rural will face
unfavourable terms of trade. For example, ration of export prices to import prices. Which means
that their export income is more smaller than their import payments the make for high value added
imports, as it leads to subsequently large foreign debt levels.

African American Stereotypes Essay
Stereotypes, or preconceived ideas about persons or groups, are a major problem throughout
this country. I did not realize how much until I attended college at Minnesota State University at
Mankato, where I was one of 5 students from the Southern United States. I was asked if people
ever thought I wasn t as smart because of my accent, if I had to walk to school, if we had
outhouses, if we had electricity, and the list goes on. I had been in the military and traveled
across the country and had never been asked questions like that before. It must have been because
they had never really been exposed to someone from the South other than television or movies as I
could come to no other conclusion. The problem is much worse for minorities because larger
numbers of people have and act on these preconceived ideas without realizing that everyone is an
individual regardless of the color of their skin or ethnicity. Because of the Slavery Era and years of
mistreatment, African Americans most likely suffer the most from stereotypesthat have been passed
down for over 150 years. The most ridiculous one I ever heard growing up was that African
Americans had tails. Older people would tell white children this crazy tale to keep us from going
around people of color. This belief is still around today, but is seldom heard. Many others
stereotypes really hurt African Americans in their quest to be treated equal such as them being lazy,
uneducated, violent, gangbangers, and

Questions raised: What is the exact technology used to examine the objects in the article?
Why did they choose the artifacts in the article specifically?
How were they able to figure out the gilding methods?

Cultural Impact On The Organization
The ways in which leaders embed and transmit culture in both organizations are very different and
have a substantial cultural impact on each site. Stein (2010) gives six primary mechanisms for
embedding culture and six secondary mechanisms for embedding culture. Before reading Schein the
focus was mostly on the, feel of the organization but not how the culturewas created and impacted
by the leader.
Schein (2010, p. 237) points out that, The most powerful mechanisms that founders, leaders,
managers, and parents have available for communicating what they believe in or care about is what
they systematically pay attention to. At the network level, the attention was mostly placed on
compliance. We consistently received reminders ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Communication was not ongoing and was mostly limited to critical incidents or compliant PPO or
Quality review visits. The culture was to stay out of trouble and stay under the radar. If a school
did have an issue that warranted to the superintendents attention the consequence was usually
extreme. The over all goal of a principal in this district was not to solve problems but keep them
from surfacing. During the study the leadership has changed and there has ben a shift in the culture.
The current superintendent sends consistent e mails requesting good news from all schools to
share at CEC meetings. She often sends e mails sharing what is going well in schools and
highlights. At superintendent meetings with principals which did not occur under the prior
leadership principals are asked to present effective practices in their schools. Her attention is
focused on what schools are doing well which encourages schools to share best practices and build
the entire school district community. The reward may be a verbal shout out , e mail or the ability
to share out in a meeting in both the network or district structure but even these small acts have a
large impact on culture as Schein (2010, p. 237) explains, It is consistency that is important, not the
intensity of the attention.
What leaders pay attention to directly correlates to how leaders allocate rewards and status. In the

Blockbuster Budget
Movies today are typically very expensive to make and require a high production budget to cover
all the high costs. Amongst those costs are expenses for marketing and distributing the movie.
Although a movie may cost a great deal to make, it does not necessarily mean that the movie will
turn a big profit. There are thousands of movies made every year and only a small percentage
makes it to the big screen and become successful. The budget, marketing, and distribution for a
blockbuster movie and an independent filmdiffer greatly. Blockbuster movies are financed through
the major studios through the success of other blockbusters. Depending on the film,
merchandising and licensing contracts can sometimes make the money to produce a film. The
major studios will generally be given a guaranteed amount plus royalties to finance the movies.
The average budget for a blockbuster is generally around $100 million and can go higher
depending on the film and how technical it is. The movie studios hope that the movie will gross
double if not more of the budget but that is not always the case. For example, the movie The
Adventures of Pluto Nash had a $100 million dollar budget and only grossed a little over $7... Show

On the low end of the budget there is the buying of the actual movie script and development and
also licensing. The salaries of the staff, drives up the budget having to pay the producers, actors
and actresses, as well as the director. The production costs make a big dent in the budget as well,
making sure salaries of the people that make the production happen are paid. Even with all those
factors taking a part in the price of the budget, there are still other costs that have to be paid for
things such as special effects, depending on the movie and the score of the movie. The music in the
film has to be bought, composed and performed as

The Two-State Solution
The mortal mind alone cannot devise an answer to the Israeli Palestinian conflict, because the true
answer lies on a level of consciousness that s beyond our mortal thinking. Quite simply, when it
comes to Israel and the Palestinians, we need a` miracle by Marianne Williamson. Israelis and
Palestinians have been fighting on and off for many years and have not gotten along due to a belief
by both states that the land of Israelis theirs. Israel has used the Two state Solution to try to keep
peace with Palestine but Palestine want the land that they believe is theirs. The Two state Solution
is a plan by the Israeli government to segregate themselves from the Palestinians by forcing them
out of Israel or into refugee camps within Israel.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because of this Palestinians do not have the same luxuries as Israelis that protect Israeli citizens.
Based on an article in Foreign Policy, the lack of equality in Israel poses as a big problem: If
demographic rates continue, the Jewish state may reach a point in the not too distant future when
Israel and the occupied territories will feature a minority of Jews and a majority of Arabs without
full political rights. It s bad enough that Arabs living in Israel and the territories do not have such
full economic, social, or legal rights today. (Cohen). Another example of inequality that is present in
the Two state solution, is that Palestinians do not have equal access to Jerusalem or the West Bank.
This is stated by Epstein in The Christian Science Monitor: The status of Jerusalem, Palestinian
right of return (whether Palestinian refugees can return to their forbears land now in Israeli held
territory), Israeli settlements in the West Bank all remain points of contention. In a One state
solution, Palestinians and Israelis will not treat each other unequally because they will share Israeli

Cheesecake Factory Structure
Intro
The organizational structures within a company can be the determining factor if a business can run
efficiently or run chaotically into ruin. The organizational structure is the different hierarchy s and
arrangement of authority, roles and duties in an organization. The Cheesecake factory has a very
effective organizational structure which allows for its operations to run smoothly and enables the
Cheesecake factory to be one of the highest earning restaurant chains. The structure contains three
main levels. The first and highest level is the board of directors which contains 7 members,
including the CEO David Overton and 6 directors. The next level of hierarchy called N 1 contains
7 levels including the CFO, President, Area Operations, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is a centralized system, where decisions and recommendations come from the top down.
However it is also flexible giving any employee the freedom to reach out to an upper level
director. This succession of power lets Cheesecake Factory operate smoothly and competently.
Each location manager has to go through extensive training to be able to be in that position and is
well qualified to look over the whole restaurant. Given the success of Cheesecake factory, I would
say they should keep their hierarchal structure the same and if anything they should add higher
monitoring of lower levels. The upper levels seem to operate efficiently, but upon reading employee
reviews of working at Cheesecake factory, there were several that were unhappy with their general
managers. Many of them claimed that the management was unapproachable, and did not pay
attention to the hard work of the employees. It was also said that the managers tend to be
overbearing and lack communication skills with employees. Another overarching theme was the
inconsistent breaks because they are up to the discretion of the manager. My recommendation
would be to invest more in the employees and the directors that are above the general managers to
make sure that the employees are satisfied. Promote company values more and participative
leadership and more incentive for employees to go above and beyond and focus on team building
as opposed to individual competition. In one of the reports they even said themselves that the
success of the business is due to happy employees. Our future growth and financial success will be
highly dependent on our ability to attract, develop and retain qualified staff members who are
capable of successfully managing upscale, high volume casual dining restaurants, and consistently
executing our extensive and complex

Edmund Perry
On June 12th, 1985 Officer Lee Van Houten was attacked by two young, black men who tried to
mug him. The youngest of the boys, Edmund Perry, my client was shot by the officer. The jury has
just convicted Edmund on charges of assault, battery and resisting arrest, crimes of which are
punishable with sentences of up to 30 years.
However I do not believe Edmund attentively committed the crimes because of his remarkable
character and academic achievements. Instead, he did it as a result of the expectations of him at

Others may feel that America will never accept people of color as equals and thus, may prefer to
live their lives within ethnic boundaries. Nevertheless, these various definitions are not static.
American society is and has been experiencing numerous changes that deal with the issues of the
Asian American minority. Anti Asian laws came in three forms: (1) federal naturalization laws that
imposed a racial barrier on Asian immigrants seeking United States citizenship; (2) federal
immigration laws limiting migration from Asian and Pacific Island countries; (3) state and local
laws discriminating against Asians, often based on their ineligibility for citizenship (Ancheta 22).
Asian Americans have been disenfranchised by discriminatory laws that denied citizenship to Asian
immigrants and rendered them ineligible to vote. It was not until 1943 that Chinese Americans
were first permitted to become citizens; for Asian Indians, it was 1946. For Japanese Americans and
other Asian Americans, that right did not come until 1952. The legacy of these discriminatory
policies and the notion of Asian Americans as foreigners is still strongly felt today, impeding the
Asian American political participation.

obstacles that impede the building of interpersonal relationships with fellow students. International

Persuasive Essay On Environmental Sustainability
The current global population of 7.6 billion people is expected to reach 11.2 billion in 2100 (UN
DESA), and as the Earth s population continues to grow exponentially, the topic of environmental
sustainability is being debated with increased urgency. In the past few years, many large scale
environmental issues have emerged due to human activities: climate change, air and water
pollution, rising sea levels, habitat loss, species extinction, and worsening natural disasters are all
becoming more and more prevalent. But perhaps our most immediate concern should be whether or
not we will be able to continue feeding this ever increasing population.
While all of us relatively understand how driving cars, leaving the lights on, or using too much
water can affect the environment, there is one massive human activity that is frequently overlooked
eating. From growing, to processing, to distributing, and finally consuming, our agricultural system
uses an immense portion of our planet s limited resources and emits large amounts of greenhouse
gases that have drastic effects on the environment. Because of this, it is imperative to understand
the environmental impacts of the type of foods that we choose to include in our diets. While much
of today s population is heavily reliant on animal products, it is evident that a meat based diet is not
environmentally sustainable; on the other hand, a plant based diet is much more environmentally
friendly in terms of the amount of grain, water, and

Residential Schools Vs. Public Schools
Residential School s were introduced back in the 1870 s, they were made to change the way native
children spoke their languages and how they viewed their cultures. The residential school system in
Canada was operated by the government, where the native children were aggressively forced away
from their loved ones to participate in these schools (1000 Conversations). The government had a
concept, where they can modernize the native children, aged of three to eighteen and extinguish the
aboriginal culture. In the twentieth century the Canadian Public Schools had arrived and had
improved treatments than residential schools. In Contrast, the treatments within these schools were
both different, whereas Canadian public school students had more freedom than residential school
students because children were taken away from their families. However, the treatment in these
schools were different and some what similar. Even though Residential schools and Canadian
Public schools were similar in some form, there were numerous amounts of differences in how the
children were taught, how they were treated and how their living conditions were like throughout
these schools.
Residential schools were the one of the worst decisions the Canadian government had made. As
they planned this idea with the churches across Canada, it became unforgettable for the native
people. These schools changed the way native people lived in Canada. The children in these

Pakistan And The Climate Of Pakistan
Pakistan is located in the temperate area on the planet. The climate of Pakistan is generally divided
by two main seasons of cold winter and hot summer. Pakistan has a huge variation among extremes
of the temperature. A little rainfall also takes place in Pakistan s different parts of the country.
Pakistan has four seasons; winter, summer, spring and autumn. The winter seasonor cool winter
starts from December and ends in February, the dry spring starts from march through may, the
summer or rainy season starts from June till the end of September. Pakistanalso faces the monsoon
period in the month of October and November. The duration of above mentioned seasons depends
on the locations of regions. Pakistan has many regions, where snow can be seen in the months of
December and January. North of the Azad Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, Northern Punjab, Northern
half of Khyber pakhtoon Khwa and some regions of Baluchistan are usually covered with snow in
the winter season. Pakistan is always hotter in the months of June and July. The weather of
Pakistan is getting hotter as compared to old days. In Wikipedia I studied an article that says:

Health, Security And Major Factors Of Food Security

Food security is defined as access by all people at all times to enough nutritionally adequate and safe

Food security is affected by a number of factors, including primarily the food supply and access to
jobs and such basic services as education ,health facilities, sanitation, clean water, safe housing.
poverty , social inequality, and lack of education are primary causes of hunger and malnutrition and
are major obstacles to obtaining food security.Food security cannot be ensured by producing
more food . if, for example, people cannot afford the food that is available , if their diets don t
have any essential vitamins and minerals , or if poor handling during processing and distribution

To achieve national security a country must be able to produce or import the food it needs and be
able to store it distribute it, and ensure equitable access to it . Given population growth and rising
incomes, it is estimated that the demand for food will rise by 70 to 100 percent by 2050. To meet
this need, the United Nations estimates that production in developing countries will need to almost

Definition Essay On UGA HERO
Hero (n.): a person of distinguished courage or ability, admired for their brave deeds and noble
qualities; someone who fights for a cause; a large sandwich made of a long crusty roll split
lengthwise and filled with meats and cheese
The definitions of a hero are endless ranging from dignified to downright tasty. Still, with all these
interpretations it makes me wonder. What defines a true hero? I found my answer when I joined
UGA HEROs.
When I stepped foot onto UGA s campus I knew I wanted to get involved. To me, trying out a
volunteer organization was an obvious start. It was safe. It was volunteering. No one could make
me do it or stay if I didn t want to and while I was at it I could rack up some good karma points. I
quickly learned that there was basically the big three (among several other awesomely worthy
organizations) when it came to volunteer organizations on campus Relay, Miracle, and HEROs.
HEROs stood out to me for three reasons:
1.They were the most in my face and consistently passionate at organization fairs.
2.I didn t really know much about HIV/AIDS so I thought it could be a good learning experience.
3.The name. I mean it just sounded cool (and not to mention red is definitely my color) ... Show

Essay on An Exploration of Vegetarianism
I.Thesis Definition
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the trend of vegetarianism and its steady increase in
popularity in the United States, the possible causes behind the existence of this trend, its effects on
our general society and the practicing population, and finally, the future of vegetarianism. For the
purpose of this paper vegetarianism is described as a plant based diet (fruits, vegetables, etc), though
the most important factor being the total exclusion of meat, not including fish for most practitioners.
While numerous sub levels of this lifestyle exist, including veganism (abstaining from the use of all
animal products) and semi vegetarianism (a person cutting back on meat intake), this study will
focus mainly on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1992, as the medical evidence supporting this lifestyle skyrocketed, the American Dietetic
Association officially endorsed vegetarianism, thus solidifying a prominent argument for the
credibility of the vegetarian diet. From the 1990s to present day, the amount of practitioners has
markedly increased, and appears to be continually growing at a steady rate. According to a 2008
study conducted by the Harris Interactive Service Bureau on behalf of Vegetarian Times magazine,
roughly 3.2 percent of U.S. adults, or 7.3 million people, follow a vegetarian based diet. In
addition, 22.8 million Americans maintain to follow a vegetarian inclined diet, while 11.9 million
are definitely interested in becoming a vegetarian in the future ( Vegetarianism ). While no concrete
evidence of a current rise yet exists, researchers speculate that, because of new environmental and
health concerns, more people are, and will be, turning to vegetarianism to assist these issues
(Rohrer).
III.Causes of Vegetarianism
Environment
Environmental vegetarianism centers on the ever increasing alarm that mass production of meat
and animal products, particularly through factory farming, is environmentally unsustainable. As
reported by a 2006 United Nations initiative, the livestock industry is ...one of the largest
contributors to environmental degradation worldwide, and modern practices of raising animals for

Nooo, I groaned, rolling over beneath my comforter, attempting to shield myself from the alarm
clock blaring beside my ear. It sounded more like an infant wailing than the normal ringing of a
bell or a song. It was one of those retro, standing alarms I picked up at a thrift store. It made me
think realize that I desperately needed to replace the clockand upgrade it to something from this
century. Vintage is all well and good until you realize why nobody uses the junk anymore; it sucks.
I turned over and stared up at my yellowed, popcorn ceiling, my eyelids still heavy with sleep. For
years, I would look up at the diverse topography of the ceiling, finding different pictures hidden
among the sky of cement, almost like a constellation. EEEEEEEEE, the alarm brought my attention
back to the mechanical screaming of the clock.
Reaching over, I stretched my arm out towards it, and in the process knocked over the empty
water bottles scattered across my night stand. My hand barely managed to reach it and I clumsily
fumbled for the OFF button. Feeling its slight projection, I firmly pressed down, expecting the
sweet relief of silence, but it never came. I sat up, now frustrated. It was six a.m. and I definitely

Rhetorical Analysis Of Pope Francis
I will be analyzing the speech of Pope Francis to a Joint Session of Congress from September of
2015 in Washington, D.C. for my final rhetorical analysis. This speech is important because it
addresses societal issues in the United States and the whole world such as poverty, religion, war, the
environment, immigration, and gun laws. The popenot only addresses the issues, but also
acknowledges many of the marvelous features of America. In this paper, I will provide a
summary of research I found on the context of the speech, the speaker, the audience, and the
effects the speech had on society. Pope Francis is the present day spiritual leader of the Catholic
Church, also known as the bishop of Rome or pontiff. He is the very first pope from Latin
American, Argentina specifically, and is now known as the first pope ever that has addressed
Congress. According to the guardian.com, Pope Francis, electrified Congress with a call for
action on climate change, immigration, poverty and capital punishment, laying down a
challenge for the United States to transcend division and rediscover its ideals (Carroll 1). He
addressed these issues and drew a great interest from the audience for fifty one minutes in the
chamber of the House of Representatives. The audience of the speech consisted of a large
number of lawmakers, aides, and invited guests. The New York Times, referenced some of the
people that attended: Sitting behind Francis were Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. and House
Speaker John A. Boehner, both Catholics. Flanking the aisle at the front were Secretary of State
John Kerry and Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr., and not far behind them was Nancy Pelosi, the
House Democratic leader, all Catholics (Baker, Yardley 17). Others in the audience included three
other Supreme Court associate justices, Justice Anthony Kennedy, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and
Justice Sonia Sotomayor, other cabinet members, senators, House members, presidential candidates,
a few four star generals, priests, nuns, and bishops. According to the New York Times, the
lawmakers interrupted Pope Francis about thirty times applauding him, causing the speech to run
fifty one minutes when originally scheduled for thirty. *****add

Poachers Kill Magnificent Animals for Profit Essay
Lions and tigers, oh my! Some know animals such as these to be scary; other people understand
these animals to be a beautiful creation of Earth. Whether you are afraid of mighty beasts or
simply in awe of them, it astonishes many people when they realize how few of them are still
alive. Rhinoceroses, elephants, leopards, tigers, African lions, and many more creatures are all
considered an endangered species, and we are the reason they are deemed that way. The one
element all of those animals have in common is that they are valuable. Rhinoceroses are treasured
for their horns; Elephants for their tusks. Lions, tigers, and leopards are all wanted for their skins.

If any main predator species were to become extinct then prey species would no longer have any
factors regulating their population. Therefore, the prey would have an overproduction of offspring
which would cause a decrease in the plant life and have continuous damage down to the bottom of
the food chain. Eventually, the major disaster that would occur is the exhaustion of the food supply.
Even though poaching may seem unstoppable because of its supply and demand methods, many
people and countries have banded together to help stop the destruction of species and the
detriments that follow. One organization that is attempting to stop poaching is the Environmental
Investigation Agency. The EIA has spread awareness to many different areas and has been
informing the public about how vulnerable ecosystems are and the repercussions that will result if
poaching continues. It also educates people on the simple ways they can help reduce poaching
such as refusing any illegal animal items or parts offered to them. The United States, Canada,
Taiwan, and Australia have also participated in the plan to prevent poaching. All four countries
have laws against finning sharks, or the process of removing a shark s fins and then throwing back
the body. Fisherman are allowed to catch sharks in these countries, but they must retrieve all of the

How Does Shakespeare Use Humor In Romeo And Juliet
Meagan Healey Heather Norwood ENG2D1 04 1 June 2016 Life Needs Laughter Romeo and
Juliet is one of the most famous plays written by William Shakespeare. Although the story of
Romeo and Juliet is one that is very tragic, it has some very humorous aspects that are essential to
the development of the plot and of the characters. The humorous characters, the intrigue of the the
jokes and puns and the comic relief after a tragic scene, all play a very significant role. These
elements are the reason that the play, Romeo and Juliet is continued to be read and analyzed today.
Certain characters are seen as insignificant or irrelevant in this tragic play. However, with further
analysis, it is evident that minor characters use humour to develop the plot and the main characters.

Juliet is very anxious about what Romeo said to the Nurse. The Nurse teases her and sais Where

readers and builds curiosity to intrigue. The comic relief in Romeo and Juliet also drives the plot
of the play. The scenes in this tragedy alternate between serious and humorous modes. This
allows the characters to develop their emotions and to react based on the jokes and puns often
told by the minor characters. Here s such a coil! come, what says Romeo? (2.5.28). Juliet
becomes very frustrated when the Nurse uses comic relief to avoid telling her what Romeo said.
This is often the outcome of comic relief in this play. The frustration of Juliet is very amusing to
the readers and the Nurse s comic relief provides more excitement for Juliet after anticipating the
answer for awhile. The Nurse in Romeo and Juliet creates a very provoking comedy that navigates
the plot. The comic relief in this play is compelling to the readers and adds liveliness to the tragedy

When someone commits a Part I crime, the world is in difference on how the law enforcement and
justice systems should handle the criminals punishment. Should the criminal be put on death row or
should they spend their life rotting away in a cell? I believe, given the terrible acts that some

First, it tends to be very hypocritical. People tend to be against the death penalty because it seems
misfitting that a nation would condemn the practice of murder by committing the same act. To
some, it seems by executing the criminal we are dishonoring the right of life by taking it. It s
true, we aren t killers and we don t want to be labeled as a killer either, but depending on the
seriousness of the crime it may be the best option to execute.
Second, prison tends to be known as Hell on Earth. Depending on the crime one has committed,
they could be in more danger staying in prison than being executed. If not executed, there is a
large chance they could either be greatly harmed or killed inside the cell. In many prison s a code
of honor has been formed that requires inmates to kill certain offenders.
Lastly, it doesn t teach the condemned anything. Most criminals are sentenced to life in prison,
which then prevents them of their freedom and from doing what they want to do. It is a
punishment, and we do it, hoping that they will learn from it. To put it simply, we cannot restore a
criminal to the normality of life by killing them

Free Will And Free Choice
Freedom of Will
The alarm clock sounds, you get up and stand before your wardrobe, facing a decision. The white
shirt or the blue, both clean, both equally nice, but it is still an easy decision. The blue. You revel
in your creativity and ready yourself for the day to come. The freedom you have always known
permitted the choice, your free will grants you this privilege. Or does it? Free will is a false
concept often confused with free choice. Free will does not truly exist, the limitations set by nature
and the influence of other people hinder the ability to choose without the impact of past experiences.
As Barbara Smoker, a British Humanist activist and freethought advocate stated, Free choice
means you are not forced by other people or what is outside of you. Free will is the idea that you
are not programmed by past and present circumstances to do what you do now, (1). We as human
beings are naturally reliant on other human beings for our daily dose of interaction. This is where
the magic begins. Everyone has an opinion, everyone has criticism, and everyone has different
likes and dislikes, however they are not our own. Most of our childhood experiences shape the
people we become. For example, if you had a dog instead of a cat, and that dog was fairly well
behaved, you are likely to prefer dogs to cats when you grow older. Or, if you had a dog and it was
not well behaved, it is likely you will grow to dislike either the breed or dogs in general. Our

Business- How Key Elements of Marketting Achieve Success
Our success is a direct result of knowing how to market a brand and having the right people
representing the brand (Norman, 2009). Marketing is a key element in the success of any business.
The elements of marketing incorporate: situational analysis, market objectives, the target market
and marketing strategies.
Most marketing plans begin with an executive summary, providing a brief summary of the current
issues affecting a business. It is crucial in identifying key features of a marketing plan. Following
the executive summary a business finds out its current position in the market using a situational
analysis. A situational analysis is an exceptional way to open the marketing plan as covers four

Mass markets consist of all consumers, taking into account all factors market. Segment markets
target one area of the market and need to focus greatly on price and promotion. Niche markets
being the smallest are very specific in what they sell and have a tight customer base. Imax theatres
use market segmentation to attack and promote their films to all of the market. For example in
using geographical locations they target Sydney siders as a major segment accounting for 60% of
sales. This is then broken further down into more specific areas such as schools and tourists. In
doing this they have the ability to target consumers more specifically. They may target schools by
screening educational films or by giving them a discount for an entire class.
The final component used to achieve success in the marketing business scenarios are strategies.
These are market strategies or methods that are used to achieve the previous component; market
objectives. The main strategies adopted by business are the marketing mix. This consists of the
four P s, product, prices, promotion and place. An ideal way to demonstrate how these are crucial
in success is the expansion on the Imax case study. Elaborating on the Imax target markets are the
strategies it uses to achieve its objectives. Its strategy in relation to the product side of things is a

Essay on Objective Objectivism in The Fountainhead by Ayn...
Objectivism is defined as an ethical theory that moral good is objectively (based on facts rather
than feelings or opinions) real or that moral precepts are objectively valid. (Webster).
Demonstrated by Ayn Rand in the book, The Fountainhead, objectivism seems to most, to be
morally wrong, and socially impractical, despite seeming to be a stress free way of life. In The
Fountainhead, Howard Roark does not see relationships as necessary, but as a means to an end.
For America to be purely objectivist would tear the country apart, in the sense that normal social
relationships would no longer exist, but hatred and racism would become obsolete. A democratic
government would be unable to succeed because no one would look at issues from... Show more

Under the standard of objectivism these values cease to exist. Not that people would be selfish,
but they would cease to be selfless, and the less fortunate of society would lack the small amount
of charity that was keeping them alive. Men have been taught that the highest virtue is not to
achieve, but to give. Yet one cannot give that which has not been created. Creation comes before
distribution or there will be nothing to distribute. The need of the creator comes before the need
of any possible beneficiary. Yet we are taught to admire the second hander who dispenses gifts
he has not produced above the man who made the gifts possible. We praise an act of charity. We
shrug at an act of achievement. (Rand 680). In an objectivist s mind there s a question of Why
should I? or What s in it for me? that would annihilate any sense of charity people possess.
Objectivism is faulty in the grand scheme of things, simply because people need one another to
survive. People are forced to interact with one another on a day to day basis, so from that
perspective objectivism is simply not practical. However, from an opposite viewpoint objectivism
has many positive attributes, such as forcing people to take responsibility for their own success or
failure. In an objectivist country, programs like welfare, disability compensation, and healthcare
would not exist, so families would be responsible to take care of themselves rather than looking to
the government to solve all of

In the early 1940s, the world was drawn into another world war that pitted the allied forces against
both Nazi Germany in the European theater and the Japanese in the Pacific theater. The attack on
Pearl Harbor was the final straw that convinced the United States to enter against both the Germans

amphibious landings of the Marines to be perfected and two Marine officers were tasked.

Food, noun, is any nutritious substance that people or animals eat or drink in order to maintain
life and growth. Many people don t know a lot about where their food came from and who makes
it, but there is way more behind the food. Working conditions are a huge problem across the
country and world.
To start with, many workers get injured and sick doing this job. There are many reports about body
parts getting amputated during the meat process, but the factory kept running and the limb was
sold to the public. The book Chew on This has a list of injuries that includes: Employee s Eye
Injured When Struck By Hanging Hook, Employee Killed When Head Crushed by Conveyor, and

employees are forced to pee on the floor near the meat that people would eat soon. And they are
still working, so they don t have enough time to stop and wash their hands which is another
problem with the assembly line going so fast.

Here are 4 basic steps for NPV analysis Forecast the benefits and costs in each year.
We need to forecast the benefits and costs in today s dollar include opportunity costs and use
expected value to estimate uncertain benefits and costs, omit the sunk costs, non monetary cost and
benefits. Determine a discount rate.
The discount rate is a nominal discount rate. We can use this formula to converse real to nominal.
(1+real discount rate)*(1+future CPI) 1=nominal discount rate
Future CPI = Future consumer price index Calculate the net present value.
∑net present value=∑((total benefits total costs))в
Ѓ„гЂ–(1+r)гЂ—^(length ) r = discount rate
Determine alternatives
After calculate the NPV, we are not only calculated monetary costs and benefits, we also need to
consider non monetary costs and benefits.
Life cycle Costing (LCC)
Life cycle costing is an economics tool to assess the total cost of a product. Another purpose for
this tool, as a management decision tool, for comparing different parts conflicts by concentration

The Hysterectomy Of Abortion
A hysterectomy is when an abortionist permanently removes the entire uterus and the baby with the
intent to kill the baby. Third trimester abortions are the same procedures as those performed in the
second trimester, but the United States only allows abortions after twenty four for medical reasons.
Abortion is one of the most controversial debate in the world today. The reason that this is such a
hard topic to solve is because of one simple question. When does life begin? The answer to that
question would end the debate of whether abortion should be considered murder or not. Viability
is currently the legal determining factor of when life begins. However, a baby shows signs of life
even before it is viable outside of the womb.

This begins at five weeks. If a baby is killed after five weeks, it should be considered murder.
When someone is shot and their heart never stops beating, it is called attempted murder, but if
the victim s heart stops beating, it is classified as a homicide. When a woman decides to abort
her child after five weeks, she is stopping the heart of a human being. Abortionists argue that
even if a baby has a heartbeat, it could not live outside of the womb until it is around twenty five
weeks, therefore it is not murder to kill someone that would not survive anyway. That is the
same as killing someone who is terminally ill just because they are not going to survive. A four
year old also cannot live on his own without a safe environment and nutrients, just as a baby
cannot survive without the safety and nutrition of the mother s womb. Does that mean it is okay
to kill a four year old too? Abortion will always be a debatable topic, so listen to your heart, the one
that has been beating inside of you since you were five weeks old, because it will help you make

Operant Conditioning And Social Learning
When I was in my psychology class in high school, we spent a month talking about classical
conditioning and we did many interesting experiments involving it. We also touched on operant
conditioning and social learning, so I have some background knowledge in this subject. Classical
and operant conditioning, along with social learning, are all ways to teach animals or humans how
to behave. These theories developed because psychologists wanted to understand why people
behave the way they do and many famous experiments have been conducted to answer this
question. It was very interesting to learn more about these theories and how they work, and relating
them to my own personal experiences.
Classical conditioning is when a person or animal associates two stimuli and creates a ... Show more

The dogs would start to salivate just by hearing the bell ringing, which normally would not produce
this response. The first part of the process involves an unconditioned response, like blinking or
salivating. The next part needed for classical conditioning is an unconditioned stimulus. The
unconditioned stimulus is one that automatically produces the unconditioned response, such as the
smell of food triggering salivation. During conditioning, the neutral stimulus, like the bell in Pavlov
s case, is repeatedly paired with the unconditioned stimulus, or the meat powder. After a while, the
neutral stimulus becomes the conditioned stimulus. The conditioned stimulus then produces a
conditioned response, since the subject of the experiment has associated the conditioned stimulus
with the unconditioned response. Many interesting experiments have been conducted using
classical conditioning. Another scientist that preformed an experiment with classical conditioning
is John B. Watson. Watson used classical conditioned to make a young boy fear white fluffy
objects. He scared the child by making loud noises every time the child was presented a white rat.

his tonally different 1975 feature, Barry Lyndon. His last feature was a movie that was ultra
violent and about a totalitarianism society. This movie is different by a wide margin. It has
more of a historical value because it takes place in England during the Seven Years War and we
get a sense of English society at the time. It is also based off the works of famed nineteenth
century writer William Makepeace Thackeray. This film also has a lovely atmospheric air to it.
Kubrick, as usual, masterfully write this feature. You could tell that this is his pet project.
However, the movie does clock in at over three hours and with the lack of action, there can be a
dull moment or two to be had. After all, I feel the aristocratic world can get somewhat boring at
times. That being said, we have Kubrick on the top of his game as he created a valued historical
narrative that remains mostly interesting and our eyes are able to feast on perfect costuming and
successful camera experimenting. Essentially, Kubrick and cinematographer John Alcott shot the
film without the use of electrical light, and that is why the look of the film seemed a bit odd
compared to other films. Narratively, I felt the first hour of the film was the strongest. I found the
last two hours enjoyable, but it would be very hard to top the perfect narrative of the first hour.
During theS 1700 s in Ireland, Redmond Barry (Ryan

Textual Analysis Psychology
Scott and Craig lees (2010) organized an experiment that analyzed if product placement, inclusion of
branded products that appear through audio or visual means, influenced audience engagement
through levels of pleasure, arousal, and cognitive effort. The researchers focused on specific
variables that may influence the effects product placement has on their audience. For example,
engagement (attention), involvement( interest ), connectedness ( to the program), engrossment(
absorption of media) , immersion (psychological state), and transportation (losing real world facets
while viewing). However, the researchers are primarily focusing on engagement. They hypothesis
that implicit measures, such as, verbal testing, word association and sentence... Show more content

All in all, the researchers predicted that there is a positive relationship between pleasure and brand
recognition. The researchers conducted a quasi experimental approach, which means the
researchers do not have full control over the experimental stimuli, which is a good approach when
analyzing behaviors. They tracked the correlation between engagement and memory after showing
the product placement. Their participants were 166 high school students in Sydney, Australia, ages
14 16 who were heavy movie watchers. They showed the participants the movie Legally Blonde,
which had twenty two product placements within the movie followed by a post questionnaire. The
questions simply asked if they noticed any of the products in the movie with yes/ no/not sure as the
options for them to answer. For their engagement test, they utilized Mehrabian and Russell s
pleasure, arousal, dominance scale, which measured pleasantness versus unpleasantness and
positive versus negative feelings. Their results concluded that pleasure has a significant, positive
relationship with brand recognition. The analysis indicates that when all levels of engagement are
present, which includes pleasure, arousal, and cognitive effort, brand recognitions reaches the
highest

Advantages And Cons Of AFTA Or Asean Free Trade Area
In ASEAN we used AFTA or Asean Free Trade Area. It is a trade bloc agreement by Association of
Southeast Asia Nation. Under AFTA, there are six countries of Association of Southeast Asian
Nation (ASEAN) including Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Philippines, Brunei, and Thailand are
no tariffs on approximately 8,000 product. Another four developed ASEANnations will have further
period to phase in tariffcuts. In Asean we trade everything not only goods and services, but the
citizen also can go around these countries without visa and people can find job more easily.
Because when the country had opened for all members in ASEAN people can work in the proper
ways not work illegal in other ASEAN countries.
As a free trade area, members of ASEAN countries expect it to be more comfortable in the flow of
goods and services between ASEAN countries. Thailand had significant benefits from AFTA,
because in Thailand there are many manufacturing, and it is benefit from reduced the production.
However, the reduced tariffs have negatively impacted Thailand s agricultural sector due to a
greater number of imported agricultural goods. Before Thailand was the largest exporter of

For example in Thailand, the automobile industry is one of the success thing. It has benefited
from being a single production base on parts from other Asean countries, which able to cross
borders without tariffs. Vietnam can be competitor with Thailand because Vietnam can produce
rice in the lower cost and rising the output than Thailand, which effect a lot on rice market in
Thailand, loss approximately $13 million to Vietnam. In both Malaysia and Indonesia their palm
oil price was expensive than Thailand. The loss of palm oil in Malaysia forecast at $46 million

The Power Of Power In Kindred By Octavia Butler
As Boss Tweed used to say, The way to have power is to take it. Therefore, it is not surprising
that the characters of Kindred by Octavia Butler fight throughout the book to gain power from
each other. They all use methods ranging from violence to influence to gain even a slight amount
of power from each other. Even Alice and Dana who are enslaved women during the 1800 s are
able to use their words to influence their owners and the powerful white men in society. Like other
black women during this time period, they use their bodies and other unconventional methods to
slowly gain power over their owners until they are able to influence them to do what they want.
Henceforth, Butler wants to demonstrate to the reader that, even during the antebellum south,
enslaved women were able to use their influence, resilience and courage to eventually gain power
over their owners. Alice ultimately has the most power in the book. She might seem like the most
powerless character because of her ethnicity and gender, but her resilience and ability to influence
others makes her the most omnipotent. For instance, she was abused, threatened, and even raped
by Rufus; but her constraint of giving him the one thing that he wanted made her hold the power
over him. It all started when Rufus raped Alice for the first time and therefore was almost beaten
to death by her fiance. Due to him being a slave Alice and her fiance decided to just get away,
(119) before Rufus woke up and got him killed but

Pauline reached over to James and took the shoe off his foot and threw it to the side of the
group. When reaching James name card he put his hand up and said that it was his name,
Pauline then replied to him with James it says on this card, I thought your name was Cinderella
because I had to take your shoe off you then handing him his card and continuing on with the
focus time whilst James sat with no shoe on his foot. Through out the focus session she was
impatient with the children and when they did not answer her question on what day it was
today she referred to the group of children Take it we are all brain dead today. Through this focus
time there was more than one value and principle which was displayed in Pauline s poor practice
as well as no signs of implementation of our settings behaviour policy and procedure. The children
s welfare was certainly not paramount to Pauline during the focus time and that the children
listened and followed her instructions was more paramount to her. Pauline s communication skills
with the children were poor and did not meet the needs of a majority of the children in the group.
James was embarrassed and humiliated in front of the other children in the group and his self
esteem was effected. Through targeting James Pauline did not actively promote the children s
health and well being by not respecting his needs and displaying it in front of the other children,
who she was meant to be setting an example

Andy Warhol Influence
Andy Warhol is considered to be one of the most impactful artists to work in the later
half of the 20th century. His work challenged the institution of art in so many ways, from the
integration of popular culture iconography to his method of production in his Factory ; Warhol
confronted what made art art , and redefined it throughout the span of his career. Personally,
Warhol was obsessed with celebrityand mass reproduction of commodities of any kind. This
infatuation greatly influenced the way he worked, by using screen print, and appropriating
images from pop culture of the 60 s, he was able to gain the infamy he so adored. The infamous
persona of Andy Warholwas surrounded by a posse of famous friends and acquaintances ... Show

There s nothing behind it. (Reeve, pg. 661). Expanding further on the
notion that his work was obvious and lacked substance. Unlike Warhol, Marcel Duchamp, who
influenced movements like Dada, Pop, and Conceptualism poked fun and questioned the
institution by challenging them with thought provoking works like Fountain (1917) and Etant
donnes (1946 66). These works, unlike Warhol s, had meaning and confronted topics like
voyeurism, irony, humor, and capitalism (The Art Story). Warhol may be compared to Duchamp,
however, their efforts seem very different, even at face value. The work that took place at the
factory was experimental in nature, but included a slew of studio assistants that aided Warhol in
the process of removing the artist from the art and questioned the value of the artist s hand
within the work (Guggenheim Museum). This concept brought critics and fans alike, but either
way, Warhol was still talked about, obsessed over, and scrutinized. All things the modern
celebrity faces.
Warhol remains at the center of the legacy of the Pop movement, and his work is

Redback Spiders Essay
Redback spiders can be found in Australia, and normally, they will eat a variety of food sources
ranging from small rodents, insects, and spiders. However, when engage in sexual activity, the
females will consume the males. The females are bigger than the males, according to Stoltz and
Andrade (2009) the males are only 1 or 2 % of the female body. It is extremely difficult for the
males to find females for copulation, the chances are slim, so when a male finds a female, most
males are willing to die for her. Sexual cannibalism in redback spiders is extremely interesting
because the males can use chemical cues to detect virgin females, females are in control of the
situation, and males offer themselves to females for longer copulation. The male Latrodectus
hasselti can detect the chemical from females webs to determine the status of her virginity. From
the study by Stoltz, McNeil and Andrade (2007), they found that males redback spiders will
know which female is a virgin or not is based on the pheromone released in their web. The
specific chemical they found was methanol, which the virgin females will secrete in their webs. A
female Latrodectus hasselti advertise to the males that she is a virgin so males will go to her web
for mating, and in return the males will get... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
About 65% of the males consumed by the females, but there are beneficial because cannibalized
males will copulate longer with the females than those who are not consumed (Andrade, 2003).
This is also supported by other studies, for examples, Prenter (2006) wrote that cannibalized males
have the opportunity to copulate longer, and Snow and Andrade (2004) the males who were
consumed transfer larger loads of sperm into female Latrodectus hasselti. Therefore, the act of
sexual cannibalism lead to increase of sperm transfer to female spermatheca, or sperm storage sites

The size of the firm s market are increased by the international trade which results in lower average costs and increasing in productivity, as it ultimately leads to increase in production. 2.Production efficiencies. This will have impact on large numbers of workers, as well as their families and local economies. In growth industries workers often will have difficulties to find employment. 2.Business, consumers and employees are more weak to downturns in the economies of trading partners. For example, recession in the USA leads to decrease in demand for UK s exports, leading to falling in export incomes, lower GDP and incomes, decrease in domestic demand and rising in unemployment. 3.Some of the countries with surplus commodities may dumb them on international markets at a low price. Under such conditions, some of the efficient industries can might find difficulties in competing for long period. Furthermore, countries whose economies are mostly rural will face unfavourable terms of trade. For example, ration of export prices to import prices. • 6. African American Stereotypes Essay Stereotypes, or preconceived ideas about persons or groups, are a major problem throughout this country. I did not realize how much until I attended college at Minnesota State University at Mankato, where I was one of 5 students from the Southern United States. I was asked if people ever thought I wasn t as smart because of my accent, if I had to walk to school, if we had outhouses, if we had electricity, and the list goes on. I had been in the military and traveled across the country and had never been asked questions like that before. It must have been because they had never really been exposed to someone from the South other than television or movies as I could come to no other conclusion. The problem is much worse for minorities because larger numbers of people have and act on these preconceived ideas without realizing that everyone is an individual regardless of the color of their skin or ethnicity. Because of the Slavery Era and years of mistreatment, African Americans most likely suffer the most from stereotypesthat have been passed down for over 150 years. The most ridiculous one I ever heard growing up was that African Americans had tails. Older people would tell white children this crazy tale to keep us from going around people of color. This belief is still around today, but is seldom heard. Many others stereotypes really hurt African Americans in their quest to be treated equal such as them being lazy, uneducated, violent, gangbangers, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Stein (2010) gives six primary mechanisms for embedding culture and six secondary mechanisms for embedding culture. Before reading Schein the focus was mostly on the, feel of the organization but not how the culturewas created and impacted by the leader. Schein (2010, p. 237) points out that, The most powerful mechanisms that founders, leaders, managers, and parents have available for communicating what they believe in or care about is what they systematically pay attention to. Communication was not ongoing and was mostly limited to critical incidents or compliant PPO or Quality review visits. The culture was to stay out of trouble and stay under the radar. If a school did have an issue that warranted to the superintendents attention the consequence was usually extreme. The over all goal of a principal in this district was not to solve problems but keep them from surfacing. During the study the leadership has changed and there has ben a shift in the culture. The current superintendent sends consistent e mails requesting good news from all schools to share at CEC meetings. She often sends e mails sharing what is going well in schools and highlights. At superintendent meetings with principals which did not occur under the prior leadership principals are asked to present effective practices in their schools. Her attention is focused on what schools are doing well which encourages schools to share best practices and build the entire school district community. The reward may be a verbal shout out , e mail or the ability to share out in a meeting in both the network or district structure but even these small acts have a large impact on culture as Schein (2010, p. 237) explains, It is consistency that is important, not the intensity of the attention. • 9. Blockbuster Budget Movies today are typically very expensive to make and require a high production budget to cover all the high costs. Amongst those costs are expenses for marketing and distributing the movie. Although a movie may cost a great deal to make, it does not necessarily mean that the movie will turn a big profit. There are thousands of movies made every year and only a small percentage makes it to the big screen and become successful. The budget, marketing, and distribution for a blockbuster movie and an independent filmdiffer greatly. Blockbuster movies are financed through the major studios through the success of other blockbusters. Depending on the film, merchandising and licensing contracts can sometimes make the money to produce a film. The major studios will generally be given a guaranteed amount plus royalties to finance the movies. The average budget for a blockbuster is generally around $100 million and can go higher depending on the film and how technical it is. The Two-State Solution The mortal mind alone cannot devise an answer to the Israeli Palestinian conflict, because the true answer lies on a level of consciousness that s beyond our mortal thinking. Quite simply, when it comes to Israel and the Palestinians, we need a` miracle by Marianne Williamson. Israelis and Palestinians have been fighting on and off for many years and have not gotten along due to a belief by both states that the land of Israelis theirs. Israel has used the Two state Solution to try to keep peace with Palestine but Palestine want the land that they believe is theirs. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because of this Palestinians do not have the same luxuries as Israelis that protect Israeli citizens. Based on an article in Foreign Policy, the lack of equality in Israel poses as a big problem: If demographic rates continue, the Jewish state may reach a point in the not too distant future when Israel and the occupied territories will feature a minority of Jews and a majority of Arabs without full political rights. It s bad enough that Arabs living in Israel and the territories do not have such full economic, social, or legal rights today. (Cohen). Another example of inequality that is present in the Two state solution, is that Palestinians do not have equal access to Jerusalem or the West Bank. This is stated by Epstein in The Christian Science Monitor: The status of Jerusalem, Palestinian right of return (whether Palestinian refugees can return to their forbears land now in Israeli held territory), Israeli settlements in the West Bank all remain points of contention. It is a centralized system, where decisions and recommendations come from the top down. However it is also flexible giving any employee the freedom to reach out to an upper level director. This succession of power lets Cheesecake Factory operate smoothly and competently. Each location manager has to go through extensive training to be able to be in that position and is well qualified to look over the whole restaurant. Given the success of Cheesecake factory, I would say they should keep their hierarchal structure the same and if anything they should add higher monitoring of lower levels. The upper levels seem to operate efficiently, but upon reading employee reviews of working at Cheesecake factory, there were several that were unhappy with their general managers. Many of them claimed that the management was unapproachable, and did not pay attention to the hard work of the employees. It was also said that the managers tend to be overbearing and lack communication skills with employees. Another overarching theme was the inconsistent breaks because they are up to the discretion of the manager. My recommendation would be to invest more in the employees and the directors that are above the general managers to make sure that the employees are satisfied. Promote company values more and participative leadership and more incentive for employees to go above and beyond and focus on team building as opposed to individual competition. In one of the reports they even said themselves that the success of the business is due to happy employees. Persuasive Essay On Environmental Sustainability The current global population of 7.6 billion people is expected to reach 11.2 billion in 2100 (UN DESA), and as the Earth s population continues to grow exponentially, the topic of environmental sustainability is being debated with increased urgency. In the past few years, many large scale environmental issues have emerged due to human activities: climate change, air and water pollution, rising sea levels, habitat loss, species extinction, and worsening natural disasters are all becoming more and more prevalent. But perhaps our most immediate concern should be whether or not we will be able to continue feeding this ever increasing population. While all of us relatively understand how driving cars, leaving the lights on, or using too much water can affect the environment, there is one massive human activity that is frequently overlooked eating. From growing, to processing, to distributing, and finally consuming, our agricultural system uses an immense portion of our planet s limited resources and emits large amounts of greenhouse gases that have drastic effects on the environment. Because of this, it is imperative to understand the environmental impacts of the type of foods that we choose to include in our diets. While much of today s population is heavily reliant on animal products, it is evident that a meat based diet is not environmentally sustainable; on the other hand, a plant based diet is much more environmentally friendly in terms of the amount of grain, water, and ... • 20. Health, Security And Major Factors Of Food Security .Sebastian palmer. Discovery degree prepared public speaking pioneer, royal center. Food security Food security is defined as access by all people at all times to enough nutritionally adequate and safe food {quality, quantity, and variety}. Food security is affected by a number of factors, including primarily the food supply and access to jobs and such basic services as education ,health facilities, sanitation, clean water, safe housing. poverty , social inequality, and lack of education are primary causes of hunger and malnutrition and are major obstacles to obtaining food security.Food security cannot be ensured by producing more food . if, for example, people cannot afford the food that is available , if their diets don t have any essential vitamins and minerals , or if poor handling during processing and distribution makes their food unsafe to eat . they will not have food security. To achieve national security a country must be able to produce or import the food it needs and be able to store it distribute it, and ensure equitable access to it . Given population growth and rising incomes, it is estimated that the demand for food will rise by 70 to 100 percent by 2050. To meet this need, the United Nations estimates that production in developing countries will need to almost double. Still, with all these interpretations it makes me wonder. What defines a true hero? I found my answer when I joined UGA HEROs. When I stepped foot onto UGA s campus I knew I wanted to get involved. To me, trying out a volunteer organization was an obvious start. It was safe. It was volunteering. No one could make me do it or stay if I didn t want to and while I was at it I could rack up some good karma points. I quickly learned that there was basically the big three (among several other awesomely worthy organizations) when it came to volunteer organizations on campus Relay, Miracle, and HEROs. HEROs stood out to me for three reasons: 1.They were the most in my face and consistently passionate at organization fairs. 2.I didn t really know much about HIV/AIDS so I thought it could be a good learning experience. 3.The name. Essay on An Exploration of Vegetarianism I.Thesis Definition The purpose of this paper is to investigate the trend of vegetarianism and its steady increase in popularity in the United States, the possible causes behind the existence of this trend, its effects on our general society and the practicing population, and finally, the future of vegetarianism. For the purpose of this paper vegetarianism is described as a plant based diet (fruits, vegetables, etc), though the most important factor being the total exclusion of meat, not including fish for most practitioners. While numerous sub levels of this lifestyle exist, including veganism (abstaining from the use of all animal products) and semi vegetarianism (a person cutting back on meat intake), this study will focus mainly on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1992, as the medical evidence supporting this lifestyle skyrocketed, the American Dietetic Association officially endorsed vegetarianism, thus solidifying a prominent argument for the credibility of the vegetarian diet. From the 1990s to present day, the amount of practitioners has markedly increased, and appears to be continually growing at a steady rate. According to a 2008 study conducted by the Harris Interactive Service Bureau on behalf of Vegetarian Times magazine, roughly 3.2 percent of U.S. adults, or 7.3 million people, follow a vegetarian based diet. In addition, 22.8 million Americans maintain to follow a vegetarian inclined diet, while 11.9 million are definitely interested in becoming a vegetarian in the future ( Vegetarianism ). While no concrete evidence of a current rise yet exists, researchers speculate that, because of new environmental and health concerns, more people are, and will be, turning to vegetarianism to assist these issues (Rohrer). III.Causes of Vegetarianism Environment Environmental vegetarianism centers on the ever increasing alarm that mass production of meat and animal products, particularly through factory farming, is environmentally unsustainable. • 23. Last Time Descriptive Writing Nooo, I groaned, rolling over beneath my comforter, attempting to shield myself from the alarm clock blaring beside my ear. It sounded more like an infant wailing than the normal ringing of a bell or a song. It was one of those retro, standing alarms I picked up at a thrift store. It made me think realize that I desperately needed to replace the clockand upgrade it to something from this century. Vintage is all well and good until you realize why nobody uses the junk anymore; it sucks. I turned over and stared up at my yellowed, popcorn ceiling, my eyelids still heavy with sleep. For years, I would look up at the diverse topography of the ceiling, finding different pictures hidden among the sky of cement, almost like a constellation. EEEEEEEEE, the alarm brought my attention back to the mechanical screaming of the clock. Reaching over, I stretched my arm out towards it, and in the process knocked over the empty water bottles scattered across my night stand. My hand barely managed to reach it and I clumsily fumbled for the OFF button. Feeling its slight projection, I firmly pressed down, expecting the sweet relief of silence, but it never came. • 24. Rhetorical Analysis Of Pope Francis I will be analyzing the speech of Pope Francis to a Joint Session of Congress from September of 2015 in Washington, D.C. for my final rhetorical analysis. This speech is important because it addresses societal issues in the United States and the whole world such as poverty, religion, war, the environment, immigration, and gun laws. The popenot only addresses the issues, but also acknowledges many of the marvelous features of America. In this paper, I will provide a summary of research I found on the context of the speech, the speaker, the audience, and the effects the speech had on society. Pope Francis is the present day spiritual leader of the Catholic Church, also known as the bishop of Rome or pontiff. He is the very first pope from Latin American, Argentina specifically, and is now known as the first pope ever that has addressed Congress. According to the guardian.com, Pope Francis, electrified Congress with a call for action on climate change, immigration, poverty and capital punishment, laying down a challenge for the United States to transcend division and rediscover its ideals (Carroll 1). He addressed these issues and drew a great interest from the audience for fifty one minutes in the chamber of the House of Representatives. The audience of the speech consisted of a large number of lawmakers, aides, and invited guests. The New York Times, referenced some of the people that attended: Sitting behind Francis were Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. and House Speaker John A. Boehner, both Catholics. Flanking the aisle at the front were Secretary of State John Kerry and Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr., and not far behind them was Nancy Pelosi, the House Democratic leader, all Catholics (Baker, Yardley 17). Others in the audience included three other Supreme Court associate justices, Justice Anthony Kennedy, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and Justice Sonia Sotomayor, other cabinet members, senators, House members, presidential candidates, a few four star generals, priests, nuns, and bishops. According to the New York Times, the lawmakers interrupted Pope Francis about thirty times applauding him, causing the speech to run fifty one minutes when originally scheduled for thirty. *****add ... Even though poaching may seem unstoppable because of its supply and demand methods, many people and countries have banded together to help stop the destruction of species and the detriments that follow. One organization that is attempting to stop poaching is the Environmental Investigation Agency. The EIA has spread awareness to many different areas and has been informing the public about how vulnerable ecosystems are and the repercussions that will result if poaching continues. It also educates people on the simple ways they can help reduce poaching such as refusing any illegal animal items or parts offered to them. The United States, Canada, Taiwan, and Australia have also participated in the plan to prevent poaching. Objectivism is defined as an ethical theory that moral good is objectively (based on facts rather than feelings or opinions) real or that moral precepts are objectively valid. (Webster). Demonstrated by Ayn Rand in the book, The Fountainhead, objectivism seems to most, to be morally wrong, and socially impractical, despite seeming to be a stress free way of life. In The Fountainhead, Howard Roark does not see relationships as necessary, but as a means to an end. Not that people would be selfish, but they would cease to be selfless, and the less fortunate of society would lack the small amount of charity that was keeping them alive. Men have been taught that the highest virtue is not to achieve, but to give. Yet one cannot give that which has not been created. Creation comes before distribution or there will be nothing to distribute. The need of the creator comes before the need of any possible beneficiary. Yet we are taught to admire the second hander who dispenses gifts he has not produced above the man who made the gifts possible. We praise an act of charity. We shrug at an act of achievement. (Rand 680). In an objectivist s mind there s a question of Why should I? or What s in it for me? that would annihilate any sense of charity people possess. Objectivism is faulty in the grand scheme of things, simply because people need one another to survive. People are forced to interact with one another on a day to day basis, so from that perspective objectivism is simply not practical. However, from an opposite viewpoint objectivism has many positive attributes, such as forcing people to take responsibility for their own success or failure. During conditioning, the neutral stimulus, like the bell in Pavlov s case, is repeatedly paired with the unconditioned stimulus, or the meat powder. It is also based off the works of famed nineteenth century writer William Makepeace Thackeray. This film also has a lovely atmospheric air to it. Kubrick, as usual, masterfully write this feature. You could tell that this is his pet project. However, the movie does clock in at over three hours and with the lack of action, there can be a dull moment or two to be had. After all, I feel the aristocratic world can get somewhat boring at times. That being said, we have Kubrick on the top of his game as he created a valued historical narrative that remains mostly interesting and our eyes are able to feast on perfect costuming and successful camera experimenting. Essentially, Kubrick and cinematographer John Alcott shot the film without the use of electrical light, and that is why the look of the film seemed a bit odd compared to other films. Narratively, I felt the first hour of the film was the strongest. I found the last two hours enjoyable, but it would be very hard to top the perfect narrative of the first hour. Textual Analysis Psychology Scott and Craig lees (2010) organized an experiment that analyzed if product placement, inclusion of branded products that appear through audio or visual means, influenced audience engagement through levels of pleasure, arousal, and cognitive effort. The researchers focused on specific variables that may influence the effects product placement has on their audience. For example, engagement (attention), involvement( interest ), connectedness ( to the program), engrossment( absorption of media) , immersion (psychological state), and transportation (losing real world facets while viewing). However, the researchers are primarily focusing on engagement. They hypothesis that implicit measures, such as, verbal testing, word association and sentence... The researchers conducted a quasi experimental approach, which means the researchers do not have full control over the experimental stimuli, which is a good approach when analyzing behaviors. They tracked the correlation between engagement and memory after showing the product placement. Their participants were 166 high school students in Sydney, Australia, ages 14 16 who were heavy movie watchers. They showed the participants the movie Legally Blonde, which had twenty two product placements within the movie followed by a post questionnaire. The questions simply asked if they noticed any of the products in the movie with yes/ no/not sure as the options for them to answer. For their engagement test, they utilized Mehrabian and Russell s pleasure, arousal, dominance scale, which measured pleasantness versus unpleasantness and positive versus negative feelings. Their results concluded that pleasure has a significant, positive relationship with brand recognition. The analysis indicates that when all levels of engagement are present, which includes pleasure, arousal, and cognitive effort, brand recognitions reaches the highest ... • 42. The Power Of Power In Kindred By Octavia Butler As Boss Tweed used to say, The way to have power is to take it. Therefore, it is not surprising that the characters of Kindred by Octavia Butler fight throughout the book to gain power from each other. They all use methods ranging from violence to influence to gain even a slight amount of power from each other. Even Alice and Dana who are enslaved women during the 1800 s are able to use their words to influence their owners and the powerful white men in society. Like other black women during this time period, they use their bodies and other unconventional methods to slowly gain power over their owners until they are able to influence them to do what they want. Henceforth, Butler wants to demonstrate to the reader that, even during the antebellum south, enslaved women were able to use their influence, resilience and courage to eventually gain power over their owners. Alice ultimately has the most power in the book. She might seem like the most powerless character because of her ethnicity and gender, but her resilience and ability to influence others makes her the most omnipotent. For instance, she was abused, threatened, and even raped by Rufus; but her constraint of giving him the one thing that he wanted made her hold the power over him. It all started when Rufus raped Alice for the first time and therefore was almost beaten to death by her fiance. Due to him being a slave Alice and her fiance decided to just get away, (119) before Rufus woke up and got him killed but ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

His work challenged the institution of art in so many ways, from the integration of popular culture iconography to his method of production in his Factory ; Warhol confronted what made art art , and redefined it throughout the span of his career. Personally, Warhol was obsessed with celebrityand mass reproduction of commodities of any kind. Expanding further on the notion that his work was obvious and lacked substance. Unlike Warhol, Marcel Duchamp, who influenced movements like Dada, Pop, and Conceptualism poked fun and questioned the institution by challenging them with thought provoking works like Fountain (1917) and Etant donnes (1946 66). These works, unlike Warhol s, had meaning and confronted topics like voyeurism, irony, humor, and capitalism (The Art Story). Warhol may be compared to Duchamp, however, their efforts seem very different, even at face value. The work that took place at the factory was experimental in nature, but included a slew of studio assistants that aided Warhol in the process of removing the artist from the art and questioned the value of the artist s hand within the work (Guggenheim Museum). This concept brought critics and fans alike, but either way, Warhol was still talked about, obsessed over, and scrutinized. All things the modern celebrity faces. Warhol remains at the center of the legacy of the Pop movement, and his work is

However, when engage in sexual activity, the females will consume the males. The females are bigger than the males, according to Stoltz and Andrade (2009) the males are only 1 or 2 % of the female body. It is extremely difficult for the males to find females for copulation, the chances are slim, so when a male finds a female, most males are willing to die for her. Sexual cannibalism in redback spiders is extremely interesting because the males can use chemical cues to detect virgin females, females are in control of the situation, and males offer themselves to females for longer copulation. The male Latrodectus hasselti can detect the chemical from females webs to determine the status of her virginity. From the study by Stoltz, McNeil and Andrade (2007), they found that males redback spiders will know which female is a virgin or not is based on the pheromone released in their web.
