them. The meandering concrete paths lead you beside the river, and ultimately to the Stone Arch

In this TMA I will examine and assess how political order is made mainly through the state. In
order to create, maintain and repair political order, the state needs authority from its citizens to do
so and this authority needs to be legitimate. Legitimacy refers to a belief in the states rightness, its
right to rule or the idea that its authority is proper. I will then explain how today, legitimacy is
closely linked to democracy and it is through free and fair elections that the state receives

One way citizens can legitimise their relationship with the state is through citizenship ceremonies
however most citizens do not attend such ceremonies.
Many of the everyday practises and discourses of the state, its discourses, its symbols and the ways
in which state actors and institutions represent themselves to the people, are involved in the process
of legitimation; that is to say, the states claim of legitimacy from its citizens. So through peoples
everyday practises and activities like paying taxes or taking the car for an MOT individuals are
involved in the making and remaking of the state. This is another way through which people

However, one of the main ways individuals express their acceptance or rejection of the state is
through the ballot box. Elections provide a means for people to question and reflect on this or
that government policy, the adequacy of this or that government agency, or the talents and policies
of this or that party, candidate or official. Today we would see free and fair democratic elections
as the main, if not the only, reasonable indicator of whether people have given express consent to
those who hold state derived power over them.

Dido s Lament , choreographed by Mark Morris, is an emotional dance theatre piece that
illustrates the tale of Queen Dido, a character from the opera Dido and Aeneas, who prepares to
commit suicide after feeling betrayed by Aeneas, a man with whom she fell in love with. Because
the character that Morris is portraying is preparing to commit suicide due to being heartbroken,
Morris wanted to translate this tragic and moving concept of suicide through not only his
movement phrases, but through the dark setting created onstage by the performers as well. As the
title suggests, the word lament , as well as the concept of suicide and despair, were the main
elements on which Morris built the dance piece on. Through the dark ambiance and slow, dramatic
movements onstage, Morris expresses to the audience through story how emotional grief, inner

researchers used twenty nine patients with depression, twenty two patients with severe
depression and thirty two control patients. All patients were around the same age, physically
healthy, alcohol and drug free, and did not have any other kind of mental illness like bi polar
disorder, autism, or schizophrenia. Structural imagery was used to obtain the images of each
patients entire brain. Then an image was aligned with the anterior commissure and posterior
commissure as well as the borders of the left and right hippocampus. From the MRI scans and
using a formula the hippocampal volumes were figured. All of the patients were followed up on,
every 6 months for up to five years. The results were conclusive, the severely depressed and the
depressed patients had smaller hippocampal volumes when compared to the control subjects. The
