Masculinity In Old Spice
Some say that it grants what it truly promises, others say it is only our imagination. The portrayal
of masculinity and manliness are quite prevalent in most of the old spice ads. Given the obvious
scope of the ad, which is to sell the product, the ad seems to portray other things. Masculinity shows
itself in the ad through different mannerisms. The appearance of the man, the behavior the man is
seen to have, and the sexuality. The Smell Like A Man ad is seen to portray two different ideals.
One of which promotes the viewer to want to become a masculine man. The other, however, lays
claim that the product will help in achieving this form of masculinity, not in a physical sense but in
a mental sense. The most portrayed ideals in the Old Spice ads are dominance, strength, and
competitiveness of the manly figure. The ad is somewhat targeted towards women to buy their
partner old spice in order for him to become a man. That is shown when the character states that
Your man can smell like a man if he uses Old Spice (Old Spice). The sense of domination over the
man watching the ad is obvious. The man in the ad is physically fit and shows that through his
confidence when he tells the women, who are also watching, to look back at me (Old Spice).
Following that up with a statement that separates the man in the ad from the man watching
claiming that he is not like me (Old Spice). Thus leaving the women watching in a desperate state
to make their man like the man in the ad. After

Similarities Between 1984 And Star Trek
The movie Star Trek and 1984 are similar because they both include torturing, pain, and the force
for winning over. In both of the story, both Picard and Winston were inserted in some sort of
device into their body which when O Brien or Madred press the button, the level of pain will
decrease or increase. The only answers that are acceptable to them, is the answers that they want,
not the actual right answer. In Star Trek, Madred asked Picard how many lights there are and
Picard responded with four lights, but what Madred wanted to hear was five lights. Because
Picard did not give the right answer that Madred wanted, Madred pressed the button which
increases the level of pain to the point Picard would faint. In 1984, O Brien asked Winston

My Mother Essay
In most cases, we develop some outstanding qualities and attributes through training and learning.
However, my mother attained those unique qualities through life experience. From a very humble
background, she has struggled with life, passed through a lot to be the person she is today. She
always tells us that experience is the best teacher. Also, through proper parenthood. My
grandparents were very strict and observant. They laid a good foundation to my motherthrough
teaching her on good moral, and how to be responsible. Our parents always act as our role models,
so when they teach us good life techniques, there is the possibility of us being better than them.
Hence, in one way or another, her parents made her acquire some of these... Show more content on

She could not afford to get a sitter and pay her to look over us; hence, she was kind of socially
isolated.
Fatigue
Parenthood is usually meant to involve two players, that is husband and wife. To some cases, the
man may be irresponsible, or the woman may be single. My mother was always physically,
emotionally and spiritually worn out because of multitasking and overthinking. As a family, we
depended on her, and to some point, she had no power to provide on to us. She had to balance
work and her health, which was very challenging. She could not get ways to take a breather or
refresh, as she was all committed to giving us the best. She could not have enough sleep, as she
was to wake up early in the morning, prepare us and go to work.
My Mother s Impacts on to my Life
My mom inspired me on being hard working, responsible and accountable. Her perseverance in
life gave me the inspiration for putting more effort in any activity I undertake and get the best out
of my life. She had a goal of giving us a decent and comfortable life, and she made us proud of her.
Again, she impacted me with love and respect to other people. Since she was compassionate and
empathetic, I inherited an attribute of loving anyone despite their social background. In fact, I
wondered how she managed everything perfectly. She also surprised me of her kind nature.
Sometimes I could offend her, hurt her, but she still had that parental

Descriptive Essay About Restaurant
Amazing restaurants are few and far in between. It seems as if there is always something negative
that could be said about even the best restaurants in the country, not even one is entirely perfect. It
s incredibly hard to find a great restaurant that has attentive servers, high quality food served in a
timely manner, a friendly atmosphere, and overall cleanliness. Incredibly, I have found an
impeccable restaurant that not only meets all of the criteria listed above, it exceeds them. Uno s

As soon as we were seated I noticed just how clean the entire restaurant was even though it was
incredibly packed. Due to the fact that the show we planned on attending started soon, we
informed our waiter that we were in quite a big hurry. We ordered our drinks and appetizers and I
headed off to the restroom to wash my hands before the food arrived. The restroom was just as
pristine as the rest of the restaurant, there were no giant globs of soap all over the counter, they
had high energy efficient hand dryers, and all toiletries were stocked. Even the mirrors were
spotless! It s often said that you can judge the cleanliness of a restaurant s kitchen by the cleanliness
of the restrooms. With the spotlessness of this restroom, I wasn t the least bit worried about the
cleanliness of the kitchen.
I returned back to the table not even five minutes later and our drinks, as well as our appetizers
were served! I couldn t believe how fast it came. We ordered spinach artichoke dip that was
served in a bread bowl. I d highly recommend this appetizer, it was truthfully life changing. As we
enjoyed our appetizer our waiter frequently returned to our table and conversed with us, as well
as to check on the quality of our food and get our orders for the main dish. He was very attentive
and very considerate of our time limitations, I was extremely impressed with him. The menu had a

Unit 1 Case Study Biometric Security
Biometric technologies have existed for quite some time. Recently, there has been a large increase
in the demand for more secure ways of confirming an individual s identity. Resulting from this,
several tests were created, which allow for a user to test another individual s personal
characteristics and behaviors, comparing them with the original. This allows for testing who an
individual is , versus what they know or carry. Biometric is defined as automated recognition of
individuals based on their biological and behavioral characteristics (biometricsinstitute). This is also
a more reliable source of verification because the user cannot simply lose their human
characteristics. They also cannot be faked or stole. Technology in these fields... Show more content

The Significance Of Physical Education Essay
The Significance of Physical Education in American Schools
Review
Hommes, Tiffany J., Bemidji State University, USA
Background Many children in America do not receive the needed amount of physical activity
needed to maintain a healthy weight. Approximately17% of children are obese (Robert Wood
Johnson Foundation, 2016) and one in three children are overweight or obese (American Heart
Association, 2016). This is a local and national emergency that needs to be addressed to keep
children healthy, prevent morbidities, and control the costs that are associated with being
overweight or obese. Pre diabetes, type 2 diabetes, and hypertension in children is at an all time
high. However, research indicates that only 3.8 percent of American elementary schools provide
daily physical education (Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, 2007). This paper will discuss the
importance of daily physical education in our schools. There is an abundance of support to
provide daily physical education in our schools. First Lady Michelle Obama is leading a
national initiative called Let s Move to reverse the childhood obesity epidemic. One of the
initiatives in Let s Move is to increase physical activity (Let s Move!) In fact, Healthy People
2020 has objectives to increase the portion of the America s private and public schools that require
daily physical education (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services 2011). There is also a

Norway, the birthplace of the Vikings. The most well known of the Scandinavian countries, and, as

afloat is something the Norwegians are adept at, with one of the largest GDPs in the world.
Despite the constant snow, Norwegians are skilled at many areas of sport, with skiing the largest

certain unofficial, unspoken laws that all Norwegian abide by. This combines to make Norwaythe

London is currently hosting the Olympics this year and in preparation back in 2009 the event was
predicted to provide economic gold at a time of economic need, however hosting the Olympics is an
extremely costly business with the upgrades, new sports facilities, and security that it will cost
much, much more than expected.
Spalding s World Baseball Tour laid the roots of the new empire and exemplified the United States
onto the world stage. It highlighted our country s economic growth, the search for overseas
markets, improvements in communication and transportation, and the rising cultural interactions.
Thomas Zeiler s main emphasis is on the baseball players and their entourage as tourists who helped
disperse American culture abroad and brought global influences back to their homelands. Thomas
Zeiler concluded that because of the immense impact of the World Tour, it was the process of
globalization of baseball that laid the structure of the growing American identity. Baseball was used
to sell and export the American way. The game associated itself with the values of the American
dream. In America s foreign diplomacy, baseball was used to promote patriotism and nationalism.

Neolithic Era Vs Paleolithic Essay
The Paleolithic Era V.S. The Neolithic Era
I am writing this paper to explain the intricate differences between the arts and cultural
backgrounds of the Paleolithic Era and the Neolithic Era. This paper will help to better inform the
reader on how the two time periods used art to express their purpose and lifestyles. My main goal
is to simply differentiate the art tools and methods used throughout these two Eras by adding
specific details and hopefully painting a visual picture in the reader s mind.
The Paleolithic Era or (Old Stone Age) started around 2.6 million years ago and ended 10,000
years ago. There were many human species in the Paleolithic era but only one species survived up
until the Neolithic Era (New Stone Age). Paleolithic Humans ... Show more content on

The Neolithic people had knowledge of farming and herding animals. These people were mainly
clothed in the skin of animals that they raised. Unlike the people of the Paleolithic era, the
Neolithic people were generally shorter and had lower life expectancies, however, the Neolithic
woman produced more children because the nomadic way of living was no longer practiced.
Art was very essential in both Eras. Art in the Paleolithic era was either portable or stationary.
Their art focused on attempts to control their environment by ritual mainly. The Paleolithic people
used tools made of wood, animal bones and stone to create works of art on the walls of their caves.
They believed to have animistic religious beliefs so they often decorated their dwellings with
pictures of deer mammoths and bison. They also made sculptures (Venus) using similar concepts.
The Neolithic Era basically introduced more of the human figures. They created images of human
figures more than they did animals. In this Era, tools such as stone, vessel and woven baskets and
clay were used. For sculptures they used stone and clay. The Neolithic people focused more on
pottery and architecture when portraying their artwork. Settled life started the development of
pottery and permanent architecture. Moreover, the Neolithic people were the first to apply pigment

How does Owen s portrayal of the relationship between youth and war move us to a deeper
understanding of suffering? As an anti war poet, Wilfred Owen uses his literary skills to express
his perspective on human conflict and the wastage involved with war, the horrors of war, and its
negative effects and outcomes. As a young man involved in the war himself, Owen obtained
personal objectivity of the dehumanisation of young people during the war, as well as the false
glorification that the world has been influenced to deliver to them. These very ideas can be seen in
poems such as Anthem for Doomed Youth and Dulce ET Decorum EST Pro Patria Mori. Owen uses
a variety of literary techniques to convey his ideas. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the subject of nightmare is only in two lines of the whole poem, this minor
contribution is highly effective for it allows the audience access to the traumatising aftermath of
the horrors of war. Wilfred Owen exhibits dehumanisation at an early stage in the poem Anthem
for Doomed Youth . The first line already connotes such idea, What passing bells for these who
die as cattle? This metaphor represents the soldiers as cattle for they are slaughtered like cows,
and at a much too young age. Dehumanisation is also indicated through the improper celebratory
send off they receive after death, where there is a lack of appropriate commemoration. No
mockeries now for them; no prayers nor bells . These factors demean the value of the young lives
lost, therefore showing dehumanisation. Similar to Anthem for Doomed Youth, the idea of
dehumanisation in Dulce ET Decorum EST Pro Patria Mori is also introduced early in the poem.
The first lines, Bent double, like old beggars under sacks , and Knock kneed, coughing like hags
both describe the condition in which young people of the war suffered through. The similes allow
the audience to visualise the soldiers more accurately. They are portrayed somewhat so weak and
devaluated, look and feel much older than they are; in general, not at all possessing the qualities

Equality in the Media Sector
Gender There cannot be any type of gender discrimination, of either sexes. everyone must be
given an equal opportunity, this also goes towards race and religion. Sexual orientations may be
explored, as it has a place in the modern world and need to be represented, especially towards the
youth generation. As with race, any producers or designers should try and avoid stereotypical
roles that may offend some viewers, such as a stereotypical housewife unless this is necessary
for a production, image within a website, ETC. Any legal restrictions that are not followed in the
workplace, such as inappropriateness between colleagues, should be dealt with firmly, to avoid
further complications such as resignations from a job or an important role. An example of this
could be a colleague who is unethically/illegally harassing another colleague, without their
consent, and this may make the other colleague feel uncomfortable. This may make the college
feel that he/she does not want to pursue the job any longer. This creates further complications,
such as more time spending looking for someone to replace that role. Religion People have
different beliefs and views, so respecting them is very important. Most models/actors/accesses
/designers will try to be open minded whilst being interviewed for a role, but many religious
restrictions may be unavoidable, E.G. a Muslim actress may have very strong beliefs about
revealing herself too much in front of men. Producers should be as

Problem Statement:
The Denver International Airport case study is an example of project failure and a good lesson for
every project management team. The Denver International Airport was supposed to be inaugurated
on October 1993 with its fully automated computer controlled baggage handling system. All the
concourses of the airport were supposed to use a single integrated system. This automation would
help to cut down aircraft turnaround times, passenger waiting times, and labor cost (Kerzner, H.,

Might fail because of the complexity and the huge capacity of DIA.
Alternative#3: score (8) Since Denver International Airport was almost ready to open in June, 1994
except for the baggage handling system, developing a traditional tug and conveyor manual baggage
handling system temporarily will start making profit and begin the investment at the airport.
Furthermore, the DIA opening day would have been delayed less than 16 months. Also, reduce the
rumors about DIA and people will start to understand problem. However, this alternative will affect
other factors. For instance, the cost to redesign the airport construction in order to use a
conventional baggage handling system at DIA would reach $50 million.
In addition, the traditional system will require about 500 600 people instead of 150 160 people for
the computerized system. Also, manual system could be a real challenge to DIA to meet the
stakeholders requirements. United Airlines fear that it would not satisfy their requirements. The
manual system would support a 25 minute turnaround time for passenger aircraft. (Kerzner, H.,
2013).
Strengths
Operate the airport and reduce the delays.
Lessen the rumors about DIA.

Spread Of Eurasia
Main Idea: In Chapter 10, Diamond discusses, why agriculture spread more quickly in Eurasia.
He goes on to explain how axis orientations affected the rate of speed of crops and livestock, and
possibly the writing, wheels, and other inventions. Details: Eurasia lies mostly on an east west
axis, while Africa and the Americas are mostly on a north south axis. Plants spread more easily
from east to west then north to south. This is because plants are adapted to cycles of day/night
(which are constant east to west) and climate (which does vary east west, but varies more, north to
south). For example, local areas that are east and west of each other at the same latitude share
exactly the same day length and its seasonal variations, which

Political And Legal System Of Greece Essay
Country Profile: Location
Greece, located in southeastern Europe, is a beautiful transcontinental country, which means the
country expands over more than one continent. Greece is cleverly placed on the crossroads of
Africa, Asia, and Europe. It is made up a huge mainland peninsula, the Peloponnese, and many
surrounding islands. Its country s flag is composed of nine blue and white stripes as well as a
white cross surrounded by a blue background in the upper left hand corner. The Blue represents the
sky and indicates limit opportunities. The white denotes clouds in the sky and waves in the sea,
which signifies everlasting progress. The cross symbolizes the Greek Orthodox Church, which is
the established religion of Greece. The nine stripes exemplify the nine syllables in the battle cry of
Greek independence, which took place during the Hellenic Revolution against the Ottoman Empire.
Country Profile: Political and Legal System Greece politics are categorized under a parliamentary
representative democratic republic. A parliamentary republic is a type of republic that functions
under a parliamentary system of government and has several different branches. The prime minister

The Ancient Roman world, the various Germanic and Norse barbarians, and Christianity all played
a big role in the creation of the society, politics and ideas in the Middle Ages. You may have not
known but the beginning of the Middle Ages (5th to 15th century) is marked when the Western
Roman Empire is invaded (1000 B.C) by the Germanic barbarians who were from Northern
Europe ( Middle Ages ). The Germanic people specifically the Goths, Vandals, Saxons and Franks
adapted most of the Romans ideas and ways of living and combined it with their own creating a
new medieval culture in Western Rome. The Huns started to invade the territory north of the
Black Sea which was where the Germanic People had settled. ( Middle Ages ). This led to the
invasion of Western Rome which then led to the fall of the Western Empire who had lost almost
all their power to be able to defend themselves. During the Middle Ages Catholic churches
specifically the Popes were the ones who ruled much of the society as there was not one
government that untied all the people in Western Rome during the Middle Ages ( Christianity In
The Middle Ages. ). The society was greatly influenced by the Catholic Church at the beginning of
the Middle ages due to its power over the people and the government which allowed them to create
rules that were from God . After the collapse of the Roman Empire which occurred in the 5th

The industry spends its money towards more male oriented gaming than towards female oriented

Bill come on time to go! Tom s mom screamed. Every summer Tom has to go to summer camp.

feels weirded out when he s near the woods. The camp counselors don t like it when kids go to the

The car ride there is long. To get there you have to go far from town. You could see huge trees
swaying back and forth as you pass by, it s a little creepy. Bill arrived to the eerie camp, he saw all
the kids with their parents trying to check in and get to know the grounds. The car came to a

Nitrous oxide is an important green house gas. The global warming potential for nitrous oxide is
298 times higher than that of carbon dioxide over a 100 year time horizon (Ravishankara, Daniel
and Portmann, 2009). Nitrous oxide is also contributing the third largest radiative forcing globally
(Oenema et al., 1997). With the recent emphasis on control of global warming, ways to reduce
nitrous oxide are highly sought.
Natural sources account for 62% of total nitrous oxide emission globally. Apart from natural
sources, nitrous oxide can also be emitted from anthropogenic activities include: agriculture,
industrial, fuel and biomass combustion, and sewage treatment (Sutton et al., 2014; Scheehle and
Kruger, 2006; Tsai and Chyan, 2006). Among all sources, agriculture contributes the largest
proportion (60%) around the world in recent years (IPCC Intergovernmental Panel on Climate
Change, 2008).
Agriculture is largely influencing economy and society of New Zealand and agricultural based
products accounts for 53% of the whole merchandise exports (MacLeod and Moller, 2006). In
2007, agricultural land use represented 54.8% of total land area across New Zealand (Statistics
New Zealand, 2008). Seeking for ways to reduce nitrous oxide emission for New Zealand is
extremely important.
The use of carbon based sorbent, which is relatively cheap and with large surface area, to reduce
nitrous oxide emission has been studied for

The Influence Of The Film Auteur
According to the Oxford Dictionary of Film Studies, authorship is defined as an approach to film
analysis and criticism that focuses on the ways in which the personal influence, individual
sensibility, and artistic vision of a film s director might be identified in their work (Annette Kuhn
and Guy Westwell 2012:25). The theory at the root of this concept, was first developed in France, in
the 1950s, under the name of politique des auteurs, by director and critic François Truffaut, in his
illustrious essay A Certain Tendency of the French Cinema (1954), originally published in Cahiers
du CinГ©ma. Throughout this article, Truffaut sided against metteurs en scГЁne, considered mere
technicians, affirming that filmmakers should rather be auteurs... Show more content on

However, the fundamental subjects of the oeuvre are no more than four. As Kieslowski himself
declared: all my films, [...] are about individuals [...] who don t quite know how to live (1993:79).
It is hence clear, that the theme of individuality is essential in the director s work. In fact, even
though his pictures deal with highly debated issues such as death penalty and the universal values
of liberty, equality and fraternity, they are only concerned with them on a very human, intimate
and personal plane and not a philosophical [...] a political or social one (Kieslowski and Stok
1993:212). Indeed, the director s chief interests are the feelings and emotions of his characters, the
exploration of their interiority and of their quest to find meaning in life, thus the melancholic
contemplative mood of films such as Blue and Red.
In line with the motif of individuality, is the theme of loneliness. All the protagonists of Kieslowski
s pictures are alone and isolated, often because they have experienced an emotional trauma, such as
abandonment as in A Short FilmAbout Love or the loss of a loved one as in Blue. They live in big
cities, like Paris and Warsaw, but are nonetheless unable to truly connect with others, and limit
themselves to observing life with a voyeuristic

Switzerland Health Care System Essay
FINANCING: OVERVIEW
Switzerland s health care system follows the Bismarck Model in terms of sickness funds. It is
financed through contributions of the individual to the insurance company rather than through tax
or employment based contributions.16 This keeps tax percentages down and allows for more
equality in access. The insurance is regulated by the country s canton.16 The country works under
the concept of social solidarity, meaning that the government is responsible in giving all social
services to their citizens Although they have the second to the highest level of spending per capita

FINANCING: PRIVATE HEALTH INSURANCE
Private health insurance activity is regulated by the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority
(FINMA). With it being a mandate to have health insurance, there are many private insurance
companies competing for the insured. These companies must get licensing and authorization from

private insurance market.10 For people with low incomes, they use subsidies to finance their health
insurance.
Specific premiums are based on what Mandatory Health Insurance (MHI) the person selects and

Analysis Of Jimmy Santiago Baca Poetry As Lifesaver
In the profile article Jimmy Santiago Baca: Poetry as Lifesaver author Rob Baker, who also is a
creative writing and English teacher proves to not only the readers but also the National Council
of Teachers of English the significance of poetry. The authors main point is that poetry saved
Jimmy Santiago Baca s life, he shows us how by explaining the emotions when Baca began to read
poetry; he then went on to write poetry and even publish his own works while still in prison, after
Baca s release, he became a dedicated teacher who also works with gangmembers and teaches
workshops. The author starts by explaining Baca s background he tells the audience the difficult
circumstances that were Baca s life. All circumstances considered into his young adulthood Baca
could hardly read nor write and truly had no desire to learn; Which makes it even more spectacular
that he found poetry. His interest began at twenty one when Baca was in prison, sentenced to
possibly five to ten years. A couple years passed and a church program had extended a relationship
via a letter they sent, they targeted prisoners without families. Unbeknownst Baca learned through
steady communication with the church how to read and write. The writinggave him something to
do and in a sense a purpose. Shortly into their connection, the man from the church introduced to a
friend who was a poet. After this moment Baca s life would never be the same. I believe

West Nile Case Study Essay
This case study I debated between a couple of different diseases but ultimately decided to chose
the topic of West Nile for the fact that we have seen this disease in our community and I want to
learn more about it. West Nile is a virus that is spread through mosquitos. I will be discussing
different topics in this case study including, the epidemiology, signs and symptoms, diagnosis,
treatment, the prognosis, and some statistics of this disease. West Nile is something that we have
all heard about. Each year when the summer months approach we start to think about protecting
ourselves from mosquitos. One of the main reasons to protect ourselves is to avoid the spread of
West Nile. We hear about at least one person that has been diagnosed with this disease each summer.

and the complications than can develop from a mosquito bite. I am going to be more careful

mosquito just because I am sure they carried a lot of bad viruses. I also found it to be fascinating

Moralism In The Interlopers
Saki, in The Interlopers, says that because our family plays an important role in who we are, we
choose to see only evil in our enemies for the sake of our kin, our blood, until the threat of death
opens us to more options. We choose to imitate certain individuals whose beliefs we associate
with more than others. More likely than not, the individuals we choose to imitate are our close
relatives; they often have a bigger impact on our mentality than someone merely acquainted with
us. Because we are raised with them frequently present in our lives, we tend to inherit the same
qualities and interests, allies and enemies. Ulrich Van Gradwitz and Georg Znaeym were
brought up by separate families who share a long series of poaching affrays and similar scandals
[that] had embittered the relationships between the families for three generations, (Saki 6). The
way they choose to view each other Georg as a petty forest thief and game snatcher (8), and
Ulrich as a greedy landowner is not a result of one s wrongdoing against the other, but rather an
ongoing hatred for each other s families. Instead of burying the old quarrel alongside their
grandfathers, certain individuals in their families chose to continue it, and now, Ulrich had come to
be head of his familyand Georg Znaeym, the inheritor of the quarrel, (7 emphasis added). Like their
family members before them, Ulrich and Georg choose to continue the feud because neither is

Thomas Hardy Neutral Tones Essay
Neutral Tones by Thomas Hardy conveys the deceiving nature of love through metaphor, the
symbolic environment in which the poem takes place, oxymoron and poetic sound devices. Among
Hardy s pessimistic poems, Neutral Tones is one of the most acclaimed. At the heart of the sixteen
line poem with an ABBA rhyme scheme, he encounters the demise of a once loving relationship.
The former promising love that he shared with his partner has dissolved into bitterness and its
effects leave him devastated and hopeless. Although the title hints that the author is trying to take a
neutral stance on the situation, his word choice and use of figurative language does not indicate it.
The only neutrality present in the poem is the description of the cold... Show more content on

(9 12). The smile on your mouth was the deadest thing is a shocking statement to make on the
smile of a formerly beloved person because it doesn t maintain neutrality like the author tries to
keep (9). The cold gesture of a grin of bitterness shows how the bond and connection that they
once shared has disappeared (11). Her presence is also causing him great suffering and is
deemed a bad omen like an ominous bird (12). Hardy implies that the people that we end up
loving the most are the ones that bring us the most pain. The final quatrain highlights a
depressing state of mind through assonance and alliteration. Words like keen , deceives , me ,
tree , and leaves exhibit the assonance of the ee sound. Although Hardy tries to keep a neutral
opinion of his experience of love, beneath the surface, the reader is aware of the inner emotional
turmoil that the author has experienced. By the end his ex lovers face and winter are now a
constant reminder of how deceiving love can be. The reader is left with the knowledge that all love

The California Clapper Rail and Its Preservation
California Clapper Rail (A) Description and Ecology The California Clapper Rail, Rallus
longirostris obsoletus, is a northern California bird that typically resides in the San Francisco
Bay Estuary, and can be seen as south as San Luis Obispo and Morro Bay. The clapper rail is part
of the order Gruiformes and the family Rallidae. It is one of the largest birds in the Rallidae
family, measuring 32 47 cm bill to tail typically. Males on average weigh 300 350g and females
weigh in at 248 301g. Clapper rails have the physical appearance of a hen, however with a long,
orange bill, that is not a feature of a hen. They typically have black and white sides and white
feathers under the tail. The difference between an adolescent and an adult is that the young
have a paler bill, a gray body, and black sides. California clapper rails are very similar to Virginia
clapper rails, but the California rail is slightly larger. Rails are known for being very secretive,
which makes spotting them in the wild very difficult. They are very sensitive to disturbances in
the wild, and if they sense something, they typically either freeze, hide or run to avoid the
disturbance. Rails are also known to be able to swim if necessary to escape a predator. The calls of
clapper rails are all variations of the same note, and factors of the call include population size,
time of day, tides, and weather. The clapper is the most common call by the clapper rail itself.

Mary Queen Of Scots Summary

World history

Mary Queen of Scots
The book I chose to read was Mary Queen of Scots. The author of this book is Sally Stepanek. The
book was published by Chelsea House Publishers in 1987 with a total of 110 pages. The book is
about Mary Stuart and her life as a queen and also as a prisoner. It tells of the hardships she had
went through and the good times too.
To me the book mostly over sees the hardships Mary had went through. Like having to leave her
home land when she was an infant to having her throne taken away by her own son that
disowned her. She had three husbands that all left her as a widow. While the book is about Mary
s life it also tells a lot about others too. I did not like the book because I felt as though it was
repetitive in some parts and also it was not as interesting as I thought it was going to be. I do
believe that if people besides me that were interested in it, it would be very successful book, but to
me I would not purchase or read this book again.
Second of all, the book is all about Mary s life from birth to her unfair death. The author often tells
about the fighting between the Protestants and Catholic Church. It also tells of her three husbands
and her many lovers threw her life. The important conclusions is that Mary was Queen of France
and Queen of Scots, also how she was tried for treason and the murder of her second husband Lord
Darnley. Also there was a battle over the infant Queen with

The Effects Of Salinity On Crops By Denielle Walters
The Effects of Salinity in Crops
By Denielle Walters
Team Members; Iona Millen, Jade McMillan, Kiara Stone
Teacher Mrs Dean Contents: Abstract:
In this experiment it was found that the higher the salt concentration in a solution, the lower the
mass of the Beetroot. As water travels out of the extracellular environment by Osmosis, the Cell
began to dehydrate and signs of cell Lysis occurred. Though Colorimeter reading results were
recorded, they did not align with the mass of the Beetroot data and were classified inaccurate.
Reviewing the results there was no consistent trend in the data (eg. as the salt content increased by
1% the mass loss decreased by 0.5g). It could only be stated that as the salt concentration was
increased the mass of the Beetroot decreased. This experiment is related to the Salinity issues
currently occurring in Australia. It has been established that the rising levels of salt in soil affects a
number of things like; Agricultural production, Water quality, Ecological health of streams,
Terrestrial biodiversity, Soil erosion, Flood risk, Infrastructure and fixtures, irrigation. https:/

Music is interpreted differently from around the world but to me, music is motivational and
inspiring. It s a way to express emotions and a language that cannot be put into words. Music
creates an avenue for empathy and a new understanding and it is part of my lifestyle. Music always
gives you company when you are bored or in the shower. It gives a meaning and purpose to life.
Music is important because it is the key to creativity.

In recent tests scientists found that music could reduce the perceived intensity of pain. It can
also ease stress before and after a patient has surgery. This is why many hospitals use musical
therapy. Music can additionally have good effects on your mood such as relieving stress,
reducing symptoms of anxiety and depression, and elevating your mood. It can help in high
stress situations such as exams and give you a better cognitive performance. When you go to the
gym you will find that there is music playing and this is usually because it improves running and
biking motivation and increases workout endurance. Additionally it can help your body recover
faster after exercising. This is because it enhances your blood vessel function. Other positive
outcomes of music can include better memory, helping people eat less and improved sleep quality.
As well as positive physical effects there are also positive emotional and mental effects of music.
One of the most famous ones is the Mozart effect. If somebody listens to Mozart s music they may
likely have a short improvement on spatial temporal reasoning. Spatial temporal reasoning is the
ability to visualize the instruments played in a song and the musical notation.
In conclusion, music is an important motivation for creativity and inspiration. It is a way we can
express ourselves without having to say anything, it is a hobby or a pastime.

Barbie Doll Is Bad
An Imperfect Barbie Doll In today s society, there are many people who strive to show that
perfection has never really existed, that each individual woman is beautiful as herself, the way
she is, and that no one is the same. Contemporary culture works to prove the fact that people are
all different shapes, sizes, and colors, and that that s okay. People s differences are what make
them all perfect in their way; likewise, things that may be considered weaknesses and flaws are
also inherently our own and thus part of what makes them who they are. As the years pass more
and more people are recognizing the harmful way that society and particularly modern media
impose harmful expectations upon women. It is high time for all people to wake the... Show more

Argumentative Essay On Pearl Harbor
December 7th, 1941, was the day 2,403 Americans lost their lives and 1,200 wounded during the
Japanese air raid, on Pearl Harbor. On this day, the US Navy lost almost the entire Pacific Fleet in
the harbor. After the attack, all the ships were either sunk or severally damaged minus the aircraft
carriers. The aircraft carriers luckily were still at sea. The total number of military personnel killed
was 2,335, including 2,008 navypersonnel, 109 marines, and 218 army. Added to this were 68
civilians, making the total 2403 people dead. 1,177 men alone were from the USS Arizona.
The attack on Pearl Harbor is something that is taught in grade school history. However, if it is
being taught correctly that s a different story. As a child, we believe everything that the teacher
taught us even if it was a lie. The story of Pearl Harbor is a horrific event that has been revealing
more information throughout the years. What was taught in school was Pearl Harbor was a
surprise attack by the Japanese. That the Japanese managed to fly into US Airspace and destroy
our ships and planes for no reason. As we research more about this particular topic, we discover that
the United States was doing a really good job keeping secrets. For example, the Japanese has a
reason to attack the US.
The United States along with our allies Britain and Dutch, provoked the Japanese to attack. In
1937 Japan declared war on China which aggravated the US. The US and its Allies formed a
plan and cut off the oil supply for the Japanese military. No oil, meant no fuel for the war. By the
US making the strategic plan to cut of the oil supply, left the Japanese finding oil elsewhere. So,
they planned to invade into the Philippines and the Malaya territories. By moving into these
locations with the hopes of finding a steady source of natural resources such as oil and rubber. In
order to do so, the Japanese empire had to cripple the US military base that was 5,276 miles way.
After months of planning, the Japanese Empire put their attack in motion. After many different red
flag scenarios, the Japanese Bombers still managed to get the upper hand on us. With all of the red
flags that s presented hours, days, weeks before the attack why was the Pacific not

Ohio State University Student Analysis
While an undergraduate at The Ohio State University I was very active in school clubs and
recreational sports. I was the Vice President of the Portuguese Club and was a member of the
Promotions team for the local radio station. I volunteered at a dog shelter and with foster boys
living in a group home. I was also a trip leader in university and led a group of seven university
students to Atlanta, GA to work with teenagers in a low performing school. This involved handling
the budget and activities for the group. I enjoy volunteering and doing extra activities to make
university life more well rounded.
I did not have any particularly different difficulties in university. I had many of the same stresses
other people had but did not handle them as well. my desire to learn as much as I could led to me
being over stretched, which contributed to my low grades. I was always usually working to make
ends meet and spent a lot of my time reading and learning about as many different experiences as
possible. While this helped lead to my ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Negotiation Report Pakistani Prunes Essay
Negotiation simulation:
The Pakistani Prunes
The case is about a negotiation with a competitor to buy Pakistani prunes in order to use them to
save lives. In fact, being a world leader of genetic engineering processes, I need Pakistani prunes to
work on people. However, my direct competitor needs Pakistani prunes too and we have to find a
deal before the day after.
The outcome has been buying fifty fifty in the short term. In fact, we agreed to share the limited
resources on the short term, and then find another agreement 5 years after because each 5 years
there are lots of changes thanks to progress of researches etc. we decided during the auction to

At this time, he asked me to do fifty fifty, I agreed on that statement because I thought that he will
spend all his money and I will save some if I need it in the future. The other issue was to agree on
a short term and a long term agreement because thanks to researches and progress, things are
changing each five years. So we agreed on a fifty fifty share in the sort term but we also signed
to review our agreement in few years, depending on the progress and changes. My strategy was
firstly to try to know more about the other party s ambitions, goals, strategy etc. Dr Sanchez told
me a lot about what he wanted to do with prunes, how much he wanted to spend, what he wanted
in the short term and long term since the beginning of the discussion so I decided to trust what
he said to me, even if I was maybe wrong doing that, I had the feeling that he was trustful, he was
open to me and didn t seem to lie. His strategy was to expose the all situation in order to obtain the
maximum he could have from me. I think he knew that he had a really limited budget and that the
best thing would be to cooperate and not to compete. The critical moments has been firstly the
moment when he told how much he had to spend on it because he gave me an important
information, the second one has been when I learnt about his goals because I could analyse the
long term and short term strategies we had to

The Discovery, Structure, Metabolic Processes, Regulation...
ABSTRACT
Upon discovery of photosynthesis and the pathways that the molecules took during this process,
chloroplasts were soon uncovered. Scientists have taken a keen interest in chloroplasts since their
discovery. This review article will explore the discovery, structure, metabolic processes, regulation
and the genome of the chloroplast. Chloroplast are not only vital in providing food for plant life,
they are essential regulating and producing molecules for the cell. Once thought to function on their
own chloroplast have their own DNA and many unique characterizes. While much has been
discovered about the chloroplast there are still many unanswered questions and useful applications
for these tiny organelles. INTRODUCTION
Chloroplasts are very interesting organelles, thought to have once been independently functioning
cells. It is believed that they were once cyanobacteria floating around in the primordial soup. These
bacteria underwent respiration on their own in the absence of molecular oxygen until the ozone
layer was formed and oxygen gas could exist on earth. Once this occurred, eukaryotic organisms
started to flourish and they engulfed the bacteria. Once the bacteria were engulfed these prokaryotic
organisms over time with evolution became what we now know today as the chloroplast.
Chloroplast today are organelles within cells that have double membranes. They function in the
plant to not only capture light from the sun and turn it into carbohydrates for the plant

The Ethics Of The Sarbanes Oxley Act
Question 1 Throughout history and in our own time, legitimate accounting methods have been
utilized to fraudulently engage in manipulating activities that results in illicit gains to the
perpetrators and losses to individuals and financial institutions. The most common accounting fraud
is the misrepresentation of financial statements which is frequently known as cooking the books
and includes manipulation, falsification, or alteration of accounting records, intentional omission
from the financial statements and intentional misapplication of accounting principles relating to
amounts, classification, manner of presentation, or disclosure. In addition, associated with the
misapplication of accounting methods, the financial industry has been plagued with one disaster
after another involving numerous scandals from top leading American companies. Consequently,
the Sarbanes Oxley Act was passed in 2002 compromising eleven sections that are generated to
insure the responsibilities of the company s managers and executives. This act identifies criminal
penalties for particular unethical practices and currently has new policies that a corporation must
follow in their financial reporting. The following examples describe some of biggest accounting

What Is The Value Of Earnestity In The Importance Of Being...
The Importance of Being Earnest is a trivial comedy that filled with sarcastic and witty Victorian
aphorisms while satirizing the Victorian society and their social morality. Wilde criticizes
against the arrogance, self importance, ignorance, and hypocrisy of the Victorian high society,
also targets plenty of ideals and morality facts that were as ridiculous as they were nonsensical.
Earnestness is a determined and serious desire to do the correct thing. Ironically, not one
character in the play seems to care about being honest. The characters in The Importance of
Being Earnest play the role of false and dishonest identities to achieve their goals in the society.
Appearance was everything, the characters gradually became hypocritical in their fashionable and
faddish struggle to obtain the fake ideals of earnestness and they were ready to pay any price for
it. (qtd. in Bachelorandmaster) At the very beginning of the play, we have been seeing that two
main male characters, Algernon Moncrieff and Jack Worthing, have been leading double lives.
Jack Worthing is a quite responsible and decent young man, while he has invented a fictitious
brother named Ernest. In Herthfordshire, Jack is known as Jack, however, in London he is known
as Ernest. Jack misleads people to include an imaginary brother, Ernest, whom he uses as an excuse
to escape from the country to join among urban socialites. Therefore, there is no character named
Ernest, but everything revolves around being

Rhetorical Analysis Of `` Catch `` By Chris Leggett Essay
There are many ways to write a literary essay on a text, choosing the most effective method
depends on what the writer is trying to accomplish. What is most important is understanding what
one is writing about and effectively delivering it. In the sample essay, Tossing Metaphors Together
in Robert Francis s Catch by Chris Leggett, Leggett writes an analysis paper in which he analyzes
the extended metaphor of the poem. While in the sample essay, How William Faulkner s Narrator
Cultivates a Rose for Emily by Tony Groulx, Groulx writes a researchpaper where he researches
various aspects of the story. These two essays demonstrate two distinct approaches taken to discuss
a poem and a story. From beginning to end, both approaches are a process that require focus and
patience. At the end they should both provide the reader with further insight into the text. To write
an effective thesis driven essay about a literary text, the writer must understand the text, organize
their information clearly, and support their papers purpose.
In Leggett s essay, he analyzes the poem Catch by Robert Francis. Poems can be challenging to
analyze, as there are many elements to consider, such as metaphors, symbolism, and tone. Leggett
chooses to focus on only four key words from the poem, then constructs his essay around each word.
He states that the entire poem s meaning can be cut down to these four words, attitudes, latitudes,
interludes, and altitudes. By focusing on only a

  • 2. Masculinity In Old Spice Some say that it grants what it truly promises, others say it is only our imagination. The portrayal of masculinity and manliness are quite prevalent in most of the old spice ads. Given the obvious scope of the ad, which is to sell the product, the ad seems to portray other things. Masculinity shows itself in the ad through different mannerisms. The appearance of the man, the behavior the man is seen to have, and the sexuality. The Smell Like A Man ad is seen to portray two different ideals. One of which promotes the viewer to want to become a masculine man. The other, however, lays claim that the product will help in achieving this form of masculinity, not in a physical sense but in a mental sense. The most portrayed ideals in the Old Spice ads are dominance, strength, and competitiveness of the manly figure. The ad is somewhat targeted towards women to buy their partner old spice in order for him to become a man. That is shown when the character states that Your man can smell like a man if he uses Old Spice (Old Spice). The sense of domination over the man watching the ad is obvious. The man in the ad is physically fit and shows that through his confidence when he tells the women, who are also watching, to look back at me (Old Spice). Following that up with a statement that separates the man in the ad from the man watching claiming that he is not like me (Old Spice). Thus leaving the women watching in a desperate state to make their man like the man in the ad. After ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Similarities Between 1984 And Star Trek The movie Star Trek and 1984 are similar because they both include torturing, pain, and the force for winning over. In both of the story, both Picard and Winston were inserted in some sort of device into their body which when O Brien or Madred press the button, the level of pain will decrease or increase. The only answers that are acceptable to them, is the answers that they want, not the actual right answer. In Star Trek, Madred asked Picard how many lights there are and Picard responded with four lights, but what Madred wanted to hear was five lights. Because Picard did not give the right answer that Madred wanted, Madred pressed the button which increases the level of pain to the point Picard would faint. In 1984, O Brien asked Winston ... As a family, we depended on her, and to some point, she had no power to provide on to us. She had to balance work and her health, which was very challenging. She could not get ways to take a breather or refresh, as she was all committed to giving us the best. It seems as if there is always something negative that could be said about even the best restaurants in the country, not even one is entirely perfect. It s incredibly hard to find a great restaurant that has attentive servers, high quality food served in a timely manner, a friendly atmosphere, and overall cleanliness. Incredibly, I have found an impeccable restaurant that not only meets all of the criteria listed above, it exceeds them. The restroom was just as pristine as the rest of the restaurant, there were no giant globs of soap all over the counter, they had high energy efficient hand dryers, and all toiletries were stocked. Even the mirrors were spotless! It s often said that you can judge the cleanliness of a restaurant s kitchen by the cleanliness of the restrooms. With the spotlessness of this restroom, I wasn t the least bit worried about the cleanliness of the kitchen. I returned back to the table not even five minutes later and our drinks, as well as our appetizers were served! I couldn t believe how fast it came. We ordered spinach artichoke dip that was served in a bread bowl. I d highly recommend this appetizer, it was truthfully life changing. As we enjoyed our appetizer our waiter frequently returned to our table and conversed with us, as well as to check on the quality of our food and get our orders for the main dish. Recently, there has been a large increase in the demand for more secure ways of confirming an individual s identity. Resulting from this, several tests were created, which allow for a user to test another individual s personal characteristics and behaviors, comparing them with the original. This allows for testing who an individual is , versus what they know or carry. Biometric is defined as automated recognition of individuals based on their biological and behavioral characteristics (biometricsinstitute). The Significance Of Physical Education Essay The Significance of Physical Education in American Schools Review Hommes, Tiffany J., Bemidji State University, USA Background Many children in America do not receive the needed amount of physical activity needed to maintain a healthy weight. Approximately17% of children are obese (Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, 2016) and one in three children are overweight or obese (American Heart Association, 2016). This is a local and national emergency that needs to be addressed to keep children healthy, prevent morbidities, and control the costs that are associated with being overweight or obese. Pre diabetes, type 2 diabetes, and hypertension in children is at an all time high. However, research indicates that only 3.8 percent of American elementary schools provide daily physical education (Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, 2007). This paper will discuss the importance of daily physical education in our schools. There is an abundance of support to provide daily physical education in our schools. • 10. Neolithic Era Vs Paleolithic Essay The Paleolithic Era V.S. The Neolithic Era I am writing this paper to explain the intricate differences between the arts and cultural backgrounds of the Paleolithic Era and the Neolithic Era. This paper will help to better inform the reader on how the two time periods used art to express their purpose and lifestyles. My main goal is to simply differentiate the art tools and methods used throughout these two Eras by adding specific details and hopefully painting a visual picture in the reader s mind. The Paleolithic Era or (Old Stone Age) started around 2.6 million years ago and ended 10,000 years ago. Unlike the people of the Paleolithic era, the Neolithic people were generally shorter and had lower life expectancies, however, the Neolithic woman produced more children because the nomadic way of living was no longer practiced. Art was very essential in both Eras. Art in the Paleolithic era was either portable or stationary. Their art focused on attempts to control their environment by ritual mainly. The Paleolithic people used tools made of wood, animal bones and stone to create works of art on the walls of their caves. They believed to have animistic religious beliefs so they often decorated their dwellings with pictures of deer mammoths and bison. They also made sculptures (Venus) using similar concepts. The Neolithic Era basically introduced more of the human figures. They created images of human figures more than they did animals. In this Era, tools such as stone, vessel and woven baskets and clay were used. For sculptures they used stone and clay. The Neolithic people focused more on pottery and architecture when portraying their artwork. Settled life started the development of pottery and permanent architecture. • 11. Close Study of Texts Alexandra Bucud How does Owen s portrayal of the relationship between youth and war move us to a deeper understanding of suffering? As an anti war poet, Wilfred Owen uses his literary skills to express his perspective on human conflict and the wastage involved with war, the horrors of war, and its negative effects and outcomes. As a young man involved in the war himself, Owen obtained personal objectivity of the dehumanisation of young people during the war, as well as the false glorification that the world has been influenced to deliver to them. These very ideas can be seen in poems such as Anthem for Doomed Youth and Dulce ET Decorum EST Pro Patria Mori. Owen uses a variety of literary techniques to convey his ideas. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although the subject of nightmare is only in two lines of the whole poem, this minor contribution is highly effective for it allows the audience access to the traumatising aftermath of the horrors of war. Wilfred Owen exhibits dehumanisation at an early stage in the poem Anthem for Doomed Youth . The first line already connotes such idea, What passing bells for these who die as cattle? This metaphor represents the soldiers as cattle for they are slaughtered like cows, and at a much too young age. Dehumanisation is also indicated through the improper celebratory send off they receive after death, where there is a lack of appropriate commemoration. No mockeries now for them; no prayers nor bells . These factors demean the value of the young lives lost, therefore showing dehumanisation. Similar to Anthem for Doomed Youth, the idea of dehumanisation in Dulce ET Decorum EST Pro Patria Mori is also introduced early in the poem. The first lines, Bent double, like old beggars under sacks , and Knock kneed, coughing like hags both describe the condition in which young people of the war suffered through. The similes allow the audience to visualise the soldiers more accurately. They are portrayed somewhat so weak and devaluated, look and feel much older than they are; in general, not at all possessing the qualities ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Equality in the Media Sector Gender There cannot be any type of gender discrimination, of either sexes. everyone must be given an equal opportunity, this also goes towards race and religion. Sexual orientations may be explored, as it has a place in the modern world and need to be represented, especially towards the youth generation. As with race, any producers or designers should try and avoid stereotypical roles that may offend some viewers, such as a stereotypical housewife unless this is necessary for a production, image within a website, ETC. Any legal restrictions that are not followed in the workplace, such as inappropriateness between colleagues, should be dealt with firmly, to avoid further complications such as resignations from a job or an important role. An example of this could be a colleague who is unethically/illegally harassing another colleague, without their consent, and this may make the other colleague feel uncomfortable. This may make the college feel that he/she does not want to pursue the job any longer. This creates further complications, such as more time spending looking for someone to replace that role. Religion People have different beliefs and views, so respecting them is very important. All the concourses of the airport were supposed to use a single integrated system. Furthermore, the DIA opening day would have been delayed less than 16 months. Also, reduce the rumors about DIA and people will start to understand problem. In addition, the traditional system will require about 500 600 people instead of 150 160 people for the computerized system. Also, manual system could be a real challenge to DIA to meet the stakeholders requirements. United Airlines fear that it would not satisfy their requirements. Details: Eurasia lies mostly on an east west axis, while Africa and the Americas are mostly on a north south axis. Plants spread more easily from east to west then north to south. This is because plants are adapted to cycles of day/night (which are constant east to west) and climate (which does vary east west, but varies more, north to south). The Germanic people specifically the Goths, Vandals, Saxons and Franks adapted most of the Romans ideas and ways of living and combined it with their own creating a new medieval culture in Western Rome. The Huns started to invade the territory north of the Black Sea which was where the Germanic People had settled. ( Middle Ages ). This led to the invasion of Western Rome which then led to the fall of the Western Empire who had lost almost all their power to be able to defend themselves. Bill arrived to the eerie camp, he saw all the kids with their parents trying to check in and get to know the grounds. The car came to a stop and Bill and his mom got out the car. It was a long ride there so it took Bill a minute to stretch out. Bill and his mom walk up to the front desk, there was a young man at the desk looked like he was not in a good mood. The man began to speak Hello and welcome to camp, do you need a room? the man said angrily. Um yes please. Bill s mom said, but Bill zoend out the rest of the conversation. Bill I have to go now, Bill s mom said I love you and please don t get in trouble your room number is 122. Ok mom love you too. Bill said. His mom gave him a kiss on the cheek, gave him his room number and bags and left. Bill walked through the huge camp and looked for his room number. Bill has been at the camp multiply times so it was not hard to find. 122 must be mine room Bill said out loud. The room was not in the best condition, moss was on the outside and the grass was a little dead. Bill walk up slowly to the door and knocked three times, Hello is anyone home. You usually get a room mate. Come in! the other person yelled from inside. Great, Bill was hoping no one would be home. Bill opened the creaking door slowly. • 21. The Effect Of Nitrous Oxide On The Environment Of New... 1. Introduction 1.1 Background and rationale for this study Nitrous oxide is an important green house gas. The global warming potential for nitrous oxide is 298 times higher than that of carbon dioxide over a 100 year time horizon (Ravishankara, Daniel and Portmann, 2009). Nitrous oxide is also contributing the third largest radiative forcing globally (Oenema et al., 1997). With the recent emphasis on control of global warming, ways to reduce nitrous oxide are highly sought. Natural sources account for 62% of total nitrous oxide emission globally. Apart from natural sources, nitrous oxide can also be emitted from anthropogenic activities include: agriculture, industrial, fuel and biomass combustion, and sewage treatment (Sutton et al., 2014; Scheehle and Kruger, 2006; Tsai and Chyan, 2006). Among all sources, agriculture contributes the largest proportion (60%) around the world in recent years (IPCC Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, 2008). Agriculture is largely influencing economy and society of New Zealand and agricultural based products accounts for 53% of the whole merchandise exports (MacLeod and Moller, 2006). In 2007, agricultural land use represented 54.8% of total land area across New Zealand (Statistics New Zealand, 2008). Seeking for ways to reduce nitrous oxide emission for New Zealand is extremely important. The use of carbon based sorbent, which is relatively cheap and with large surface area, to reduce nitrous oxide emission has been studied for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 24. The Influence Of The Film Auteur According to the Oxford Dictionary of Film Studies, authorship is defined as an approach to film analysis and criticism that focuses on the ways in which the personal influence, individual sensibility, and artistic vision of a film s director might be identified in their work (Annette Kuhn and Guy Westwell 2012:25). The theory at the root of this concept, was first developed in France, in the 1950s, under the name of politique des auteurs, by director and critic FranГ§ois Truffaut, in his illustrious essay A Certain Tendency of the French Cinema (1954), originally published in Cahiers du CinГ©ma. However, the fundamental subjects of the oeuvre are no more than four. As Kieslowski himself declared: all my films, [...] are about individuals [...] who don t quite know how to live (1993:79). It is hence clear, that the theme of individuality is essential in the director s work. In fact, even though his pictures deal with highly debated issues such as death penalty and the universal values of liberty, equality and fraternity, they are only concerned with them on a very human, intimate and personal plane and not a philosophical [...] a political or social one (Kieslowski and Stok 1993:212). Indeed, the director s chief interests are the feelings and emotions of his characters, the exploration of their interiority and of their quest to find meaning in life, thus the melancholic contemplative mood of films such as Blue and Red. In line with the motif of individuality, is the theme of loneliness. All the protagonists of Kieslowski s pictures are alone and isolated, often because they have experienced an emotional trauma, such as abandonment as in A Short FilmAbout Love or the loss of a loved one as in Blue. Moralism In The Interlopers Saki, in The Interlopers, says that because our family plays an important role in who we are, we choose to see only evil in our enemies for the sake of our kin, our blood, until the threat of death opens us to more options. We choose to imitate certain individuals whose beliefs we associate with more than others. More likely than not, the individuals we choose to imitate are our close relatives; they often have a bigger impact on our mentality than someone merely acquainted with us. Because we are raised with them frequently present in our lives, we tend to inherit the same qualities and interests, allies and enemies. Ulrich Van Gradwitz and Georg Znaeym were brought up by separate families who share a long series of poaching affrays and similar scandals [that] had embittered the relationships between the families for three generations, (Saki 6). The way they choose to view each other Georg as a petty forest thief and game snatcher (8), and Ulrich as a greedy landowner is not a result of one s wrongdoing against the other, but rather an ongoing hatred for each other s families. Instead of burying the old quarrel alongside their grandfathers, certain individuals in their families chose to continue it, and now, Ulrich had come to be head of his familyand Georg Znaeym, the inheritor of the quarrel, (7 emphasis added). • 33. Thomas Hardy Neutral Tones Essay Neutral Tones by Thomas Hardy conveys the deceiving nature of love through metaphor, the symbolic environment in which the poem takes place, oxymoron and poetic sound devices. Among Hardy s pessimistic poems, Neutral Tones is one of the most acclaimed. At the heart of the sixteen line poem with an ABBA rhyme scheme, he encounters the demise of a once loving relationship. The former promising love that he shared with his partner has dissolved into bitterness and its effects leave him devastated and hopeless. Her presence is also causing him great suffering and is deemed a bad omen like an ominous bird (12). Hardy implies that the people that we end up loving the most are the ones that bring us the most pain. The final quatrain highlights a depressing state of mind through assonance and alliteration. The California Clapper Rail and Its Preservation California Clapper Rail (A) Description and Ecology The California Clapper Rail, Rallus longirostris obsoletus, is a northern California bird that typically resides in the San Francisco Bay Estuary, and can be seen as south as San Luis Obispo and Morro Bay. The clapper rail is part of the order Gruiformes and the family Rallidae. It is one of the largest birds in the Rallidae family, measuring 32 47 cm bill to tail typically. Males on average weigh 300 350g and females weigh in at 248 301g. Clapper rails have the physical appearance of a hen, however with a long, orange bill, that is not a feature of a hen. They typically have black and white sides and white feathers under the tail. The difference between an adolescent and an adult is that the young have a paler bill, a gray body, and black sides. California clapper rails are very similar to Virginia clapper rails, but the California rail is slightly larger. Rails are known for being very secretive, which makes spotting them in the wild very difficult. They are very sensitive to disturbances in the wild, and if they sense something, they typically either freeze, hide or run to avoid the disturbance. Rails are also known to be able to swim if necessary to escape a predator. The book is about Mary Stuart and her life as a queen and also as a prisoner. It tells of the hardships she had went through and the good times too. To me the book mostly over sees the hardships Mary had went through. Like having to leave her home land when she was an infant to having her throne taken away by her own son that disowned her. She had three husbands that all left her as a widow. While the book is about Mary s life it also tells a lot about others too. The US and its Allies formed a plan and cut off the oil supply for the Japanese military. No oil, meant no fuel for the war. By the US making the strategic plan to cut of the oil supply, left the Japanese finding oil elsewhere. So, they planned to invade into the Philippines and the Malaya territories. By moving into these locations with the hopes of finding a steady source of natural resources such as oil and rubber. In order to do so, the Japanese empire had to cripple the US military base that was 5,276 miles way. After months of planning, the Japanese Empire put their attack in motion. After many different red flag scenarios, the Japanese Bombers still managed to get the upper hand on us.
