The Role Of National Character And The Political Institutions
During the 1800s, the concept of national character was a subject of development and discussion,
especially in France. Many philosophers had an agreement in general that each nation was/had
unique characteristics, but there are many opinions as to what makes a national character. There
was a lot of focus on the spiritual and physical characteristics and their role in shaping the national
traits. These philosophers had a different perspective on the relationship between the national
character and the political institutions. The concept of national character expanded in its
significance in regards to its importance and complexity from a political standpoint. At the
beginning of the 1800s, the national character idea was viewed as a historical fact and towards
the end, it was viewed as a current force of politics that required some fostering to reforms. This
led this idea to moving from the realm of speculation to a more theoretical realm with a practical
applicability. This paper is going to analyzing the concept of national character from the
implications on France in the 1800s and its perspective of the French philosophers.
A national character is defined as an expression that gives a description of all forms of collective
self perception, conduct as well as collective self perception that are shared by the various
individuals inhabiting a modern nation state1. It demonstrates the issues of psychosocial and
cultural homogeneity with the citizens of each nation

Cindy Sherman Research Paper
The artist I researched is Cindy Sherman. She is a American Photographer born on January 19,
1954 in Glen Ridge, New jersey. Her parents had five children and Cindy was the youngest of
them all. Her parents were not quit interested in art. Her dad was a engineer and her mom was a
teacher. In the early 1970s, Cindy enrolled at State University of New York to study art. There,
Cindy discovered that painting was not her gift. Cindy stated, I didn t want to make high art, I had
no interest in using paint, I wanted to find something that anyone could relate to without knowing
about contemporary art. I wasn t thinking in terms of precious prints or archival quality; I didn t
want the work to seem like a commodity. She could not express her artwork through panting.
Instead, she began to take photos. A lot of photographers take photos of other people and objects.
Cindy is different. She mostly took... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is a picture of Sherman bent down and looking up. She has both of her hands down with a
whit collard shirt on. Sherman is looking up with brown short wet hair. Her whole background is
dark, while the light is specifically on her. It looks as if she is terrified. She is playing the role of
the scream queen in the movie King Kong and Dorothy from the Wizard of oz. I honestly do not
understand how this artwork demonstrates the roles that Sherman are playing. When I looked at
the picture and read the title, I interpreted she was scared and has been hurt before. She got her
heart broke and discovered that true love is only in fairy tales, however, her fairytale was a
disaster. This was not the meaning of the photo at all. According to The Art Story website, By
freezing the image into a kind of sorry, secular icon, Sherman demonstrates how art may act as a
visual truth serum, a force of social change by way of its ability to stop a viewer in his/her tracks
and suggest how certain assumptions are culturally inherited, not necessarily

Salmon Facts
Salmon Fish Facts.
Various species of salmon span from Alaska and to the Pacific Ocean, with each species
reproducing in the same fascinating way. The uncommonly high amount of omega 3 fatty acids
found in salmon make it a popular nutritional choice for good health. While there s been an increase
in demand for salmon, there s been a subsequent decrease in the wild salmon population; in an
effort to reverse this decrease, salmon farms were created and now account for the majority of the
world s salmon.
Facts About Salmon
The Pacific Ocean houses the majority of wild salmon, including the Cherry salmon and the group
of fish known as the Alaskan salmon which consists of: the Chinook salmon, the largest of all the
Pacific salmon; the Chum, sometimes known as the dog salmon; the Coho salmon, or silver
salmon; the Pink salmon, the smallest of all the Pacific salmon; and the Sockeye, also known as the
Red or the Blueback, salmon. The other two species of salmon include the Atlantic salmon, the only
salmon to inhabit the Atlantic, and the huchen or Danube salmon.
One extraordinary fact about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Salmon contains an unusually high number of omega 3 fatty acids, including both EPA
(eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid). Omega 3 fatty acids are beneficial for
a variety of reasons. Not only do they improve heart health, but they also reduce the risk of a heart
attack or stroke. They promote healthy cell functioning, which aids in brain development and
performance. Omega 3 fatty acids also reduce inflammation in the joints, helping to alleviate
arthritis pain. While some prefer buying their omega 3s at health food stores, eating salmon is in
fact healthier than taking fish oil capsules; instead, supplementing these capsules for the natural
intake of omega 3 fatty acids can actually cause heart problems. Salmon also serves as a good
source of protein, vitamins and

Charlemagne s Influence On Charlemagne
The life of Charlemagne is one of historical and utter greatness. He ruled in a time of turmoil and
disorder during middle ages in Europe. The successes of his past lineage prepared and propelled
him to take on the tremendous task of expanding, governing and reforming the Frankish Empire.
Charlemagne incredible accomplishment during his sovereignty. For he not only invented an
efficient way to govern his people call feudalism, he also created a way to keep the loyalty to his
empire through inspectors. He led countless conquests against the various adversaries that once
opposed the Holy Roman Empire, which expanded his empire across the greater half of Europe.
With his grand conquests a solidification between the Catholic Church and the State began to take
hold. Charlemagnebeing a keen individual saw great opportunity within the partnership with the
Church especially ones of the monasteries. Using them to usher in the Carolingian renaissance. The
crowning of Charlemagne as Holy Roman Emperor fashioned a turning point that would forever
change the path of Europe. Within years after his death, though, Charlemagne once boundless
empire wasted away. Charlemagne s reign indeed greatly influenced the course of Europe in ways
he had only hoped it would. But as history often shows for every one event there are often several
incantations and interpretations. Charlemagne reign is definitely not an exception to the rule, his
tale is presented in two biographies; the first version is titled Life of Charlemagne which was...

Poor Electricity Supply And Lack Of Internet Connectivity
3.1. 3 Poor Electricity Supply and Lack of Internet Connectivity
Lack of constant supply of electricity has also been identified by many researchers as a major
barrier to a successful wider implementation and adoption of EHR in this region (Oluoch, et al.,
2012; Awokola, et al., 2012; Pantuvo et al., 2011). For instance, Awokola and colleagues reported
that for many months, they could not use the EHR consistently because of constant power outage.
On some occasions, the power packs in some central processing units of the table top computers got
damaged and had to be replaced. In addition, Pantuvo et al. (2011) stated that many hospitals in this
region do not have access to constant electricity supply. In fact, many hospitals depend mainly on
the alternative power supply commonly called generator for their operations. Due to the
infrastructure problems throughout the country and lack of guarantee of always on internet
connection or even ensure an uninterrupted electrical supply, nationwide adoption/ wider
implementation of EHR in Nigeria may not be possible (Chaplin et al., 2015). Furthermore, the
study conducted on the use of health information and communication technologies (HICTs) by
health workers in seven state hospitals and a private hospital in the North Eastern Zone, Ogun
State, Nigeria. Reported that only one of the hospitals examined was connected to the internet and
none of them have a website (Ajiboye, Adekoya, Alawiye, Oyedipe, 2014). Jimoh, Pate and Lin

Biography Of Walter Benjamin, Theodor Adorno And Max...
Walter Benjamin, Theodor Adorno and Max Horkheimer were alltheorists of the Frankfurt School
and they were the first to introduce the idea of the culture industry, the mass marketing of culture
in the modern era. However, Walter Benjamin gives a different perspective on the role of culture
in modern society, he believed that the possibility of mechanical reproduction (photography) was
demolishing the integrity of art in modern society . He gives the example of the Mona Lisa
painting by leonardo da vinci. The painting has a specific the existence and particular location but
with mechanical reproduction it can be copied multiple different times and occupy more than one
place at a time. The question posed by Benjamin is what are we missing... Show more content on

For Benjamin, the mechanical production of art democratizes cultural production Thus It loses its
aura and authority as it becomes available to everyone. We can extend this to an analysis of media
today in which everyone can be an actor and everyone can be a producer; the difference between
high art and the popular culture are blurred. Therefore, from these two Frankfurt theorists we have a
different view of the culture and the culture industry. Benjamin focuses on the democratization of
culture that is made available by the production of art while Adorno and Horkheimer argue the
ways in which art become more linked to commercial exploitation. It can be suggested through the
readings of Adorno and Horkheimer s work that they seem to be eliciting the question of whether
people believe everything that the culture tells them and trying to make sense of the distinct
differences between the messages of the culture industry and the public s realities thus creating an
environment where autonomous independent individuals, who are able to think for themselves,
can form. Both theorists seem to be exploring how cultural meaning is generated and believe that
the structures which promote and deliver these messages of cultural influence is powerful. It is
safe to say that we may be

John F Kennedy s Ethos Pathos Logos
John F Kennedy was the 35th president of the United States in 1961 and was unfortunately
assassinated in 1963. Most Americans considered him to be one of the greatest presidents we had,
and admired his humor. In September of 1962 he made a speech called, Going to the Moon at a
university in Texas to support NASA in launching people on the moon for the first time ever in
history. His speech illustrates many examples of rhetorical strategies, one being repetition. This is
very common to find and comes up frequently. The second example of rhetoricused is pathos and
the last is connotative diction. Small doses of repetition are scattered throughout Kennedy s speech.
In the fourth paragraph, the word despite is repeated to emphasize that even though there are

He explains that even though it s a challenge, it will aid our power in the world. Pathos is a form
of expression and a feeling of pity or compassion. He uses it at the beginning of his speech, We
meet at a college noted for knowledge, in a city noted for progress, in a State noted for strength,
and we stand in need of all three, for we meet in an hour of change and challenge, in a decade of
hope and fear, in an age of both knowledge and ignorance. The greater our knowledge increases, the
greater our ignorance unfolds (1). In this quote, John F. Kennedy describes where he is, to try and
influence his audience about how this trip to the moon is much needed and well deserved. The
next example of pathos could also be repetition. This is a breathtaking pace, and such a pace
cannot help but create new ills as it dispels old, new ignorance, new problems, new dangers.
Surely the opening vistas of space promise high costs and hardships, as well as high reward (1). It
is depicted from this quote that Kennedy feels anxious yet thrilled for this

Patients With Large Common Bile Duct Stones
This prospective study was performed on 124 patients with large common bile duct stones ( 1 cm)
between August 2014 and August 2016. Our exclusion criteria included: age less than 18 years,
patients with contraindication to ERCP (history of contrast dye anaphylaxis, severe
cardiopulmonary disease, and recent myocardial infarction), acute pancreatitisor cholangitis at the
time of the procedure, previous history of ES, concomitant cholangiocarcinona or stricture, or
intrahepatic duct stone.
Patients were randomly assigned to either EPLBD group or ES group after confirming the presence
of large bile duct stones during the initial ERCP. The simple randomization was conducted by
means of random number created in Microsoft Office Excel 2007. The endoscopists were blinded
before confirming CBD stones during the initial ERCP. If biliary cannulation failed or precut was
done during the initial ERCP, the patients were excluded.
The medical ethical committee of our medical centers approved the study protocol and all patients
provided written informed consent before entering the study. All patients subjected to complete
assessment including proper history, clinical examination, laboratory investigations (complete
blood count, liver and renal function tests, blood sugar, and serum amylase), and imaging studies

Napoleon Bonaparte s Big Dictator In Small Packaging
Big Dictator in Small Packaging Tall, dark, and handsome are not the adjectives one might use to
describe Napoleon Bonaparte. Vulgar, ruthless, and conniving are the ones some would if they
were so inclined... Despite the controversy over the shockingly short man s rule, his road to
success and his untimely downfall undeniably played a large role in shaping modern France.
However, what is more interesting is what shaped this historic dictator. And, it all began with his
birth. Napoleon Bonaparte s early life turned from bitter sadness to unexpected accomplishment.
Born August 15, 1769 into a large, impoverished family during a war between his homeland Corsica
and the mighty France, it seemed that, even then, his livelihood and well being were being
challenged. His parents, Letizia and Carlo, wrestled to keep food on the table after the French
war, and chose to move to France to pursue a better life. To Napoleon s distaste, his father was
quick to submit to French customs and began to dress and behave just like a Frenchman ( To
Destiny ). Furthermore, when Bonaparte turned nine, his father gave him his first stepping stone
by procuring him a scholarship to a French school. It was at this school that Bonaparte began to
truly feel set apart. With his yellow, Corsican skin, prideful ambience, and the fact that he hardly
spoke French, Napoleon did not even try to fit in. At the age of fifteen, he attended the Royal
Military Academy of France. One teacher described him as, quiet and solitary. Frightfully
egotistical. Proud, ambitious, aspiring to everything ( To Destiny ). He would go far, his school
report read, in favorable circumstances ( To Destiny ).
However, in 1785 at the age of 16, he finished school and secured the title of Second Lieutenant.
It was during this time that he became a genius at sighting a gun, deploying soldiers, and handling
rammer and shot. Yet, he felt useless. For a man who sensed he was destined for greatness,
Second Lieutenant was not a satisfactory vocation. He believed the regime would not grant him
the high title he yearned for because he was a no name. For that reason, he worked to be an author
instead. He wrote a quick history of Corsica and attempted writing a

Women s Rights
Discrimination against women has been a phenomenon for centuries, lack of women s rights and
equality is a long overdue issue that needs to be abolished. The need to make a concrete connection
between human rights and women s rights is ironic considering that one half of the global
population is female (Hawkins 1). Gender inequality is the pressing current human rights issue,
including disparities in education, employment, healthcare, power and decision making, violence,
and poverty that impacts billions of women and girls from every part of the world throughout their
lifetime (UN Statistical Division, 2010; UN Women, 2011a). The United Nationshas extended
efforts for growing global rights effort to compensated the deeply rooted gender inequality
(Hawkins 1). This paper addresses gender based inequality and current global human rights
initiatives focused on women, and action taken by women and human rights defenders (Hawkins
1). While human rights violations can affect all groups, including women (1), women s issues are
not the same as gender issues, although the terms are often used interchangeably (1). In its annual
report, the UN Population Fund note that gender inequality works to the disadvantages of both
women and men through impeding the growth of individuals, the development of countries, and the
evolution of societies (UN Statistical Division, 2010, UN Women, 2000). Women s

The Importance Of The Past In The Dew Breaker
The past is so vital to the characters of Danticat s novel The Dew Breaker because despite most of
the trauma the characters have undergone in the past, they must keep living with it and tell their
story. One piece of symbolism that is persistent between every chapter are the scars that every
character has. Scars have been a central image of this novel both literally and metaphorically. Each
character has their unique scars that they must carry with them. The story, in the end, talks about
how the scars of the pastare the scars of the future. Every scar is a symbol of the characters painful
history that they had to overcome, and now they must carry their past with themselves forever.
The scars of the past define precisely the importance of the past for every individual character.
The past is a part of all people at all moment. Past scars lie over all of the characters in this novel.
A character like Ka s father is once corrupted by partaking in a violent, dictatorial regime. A
character like Beatrice is haunted by the horrors that impose on her in the past. The past is
inescapable because it is a core part of a person that it largely dictates the reasoning behind their
actions in presentsituations. The past is something which haunts each of the characters in the novel
for different reasons. It left a scar on them that they must forever live with. The past haunts ka s
father as a dew breaker under the authority of a Haitian Dictator. My father never liked

The High Cost of Employee Turnover in Business
When accounting for the costs (both real costs, such as time taken to select and recruit a
replacement, and also opportunity costs, such as lost productivity), the cost of employee turnover to
for profit organizations has been estimated to be between 30% (the figure used by the American
Management Association) to upwards of 150% of the employees remuneration package.[4] There
are both direct and indirect costs. Direct costs relate to the leaving costs, replacement costs and
transitions costs, and indirect costs relate to the loss of production, reduced performance levels,
unnecessary overtime and low morale. The true cost of turnover is going to depend on a number of
variable including ease or difficulty in filling the position and the nature of the job itself. In a
healthcare context, staff turnover has been associated with worse patient outcomes.[5] Internal
versus external[edit] Like recruitment, turnover can be classified as internal or external .[6] Internal
turnover involves employees leaving their current positions and taking new positions within the
same organization. Both positive (such as increased morale from the change of task and supervisor)
and negative (such as project/relational disruption, or the Peter Principle) effects of internal
turnover exist, and therefore, it may be equally important to monitor this form of turnover as it is to
monitor its external counterpart. Internal turnover might be moderated and controlled by typical
HR mechanisms, such as

Criminalization Of Prostitution Case Study
It is no secret that sex work is a growing industry, as it is essentially a commercial enterprise in

violence and victimization from clients and other perpetrators, but even so, it is not always true.

Off street workers are found in venues such as massage parlours or as escorts, whereas street based
workers work strictly on the streets and are exposed to a higher risk of violence. Increased risk
exposures to violence were found among street based workers, with levels ranging from sexual,
verbal and economic violence.
It was also learned that sex workers could control certain factors to decrease their vulnerability to
violence. Their choice of venue was a major factor, the structure of the environment they were in,
independence and their control over the services they provided to clients. Overall, what was
found in contrast to street based sex workers, the majority of off street workers in the study

Auguste Comte s Sociological Approach To The Scientific...
Sociology is the study of human social relationships and institutions and the study of social
problems. Sociology investigates the social causes and consequences of such things as prejudice
and discrimination. Auguste Comte first used the term sociology in 1838 to refer to the scientific
study of society. He argued that society needs scientific knowledge based on facts and evidence to
solve its problems. Spencer suggested that society will correct its own defects through the natural
process of survival of the fittest. Marx claimed that social conflict, especially class conflict, and
competition mark all societies. Durkheim stressed the importance of studying social facts or
patterns of behavior characteristic of a particular group. He advocated the use of systematic
observation to study sociological events, but he also recommended that sociologists avoid
considering people s attitudes when explaining society. Weber argued that sociologists must also
take into account people s interpretations of events; not just the events themselves. He believed that
sociologists must inquire about people s thoughts, feelings, and perceptions regarding their own
behaviors. These Sociologists were the main players during the 19th and 20th century, and their
prior work led to the development of Sociologyin America. Sociologists throughout the decades
have sought to develop a scientific approach to the study and resolve such issues as prejudice and
discrimination. Early

Limited Liability Companies
After reading the case of Alex, Bill, Carl, and Devon s business, me being their accountant, a
type of business I would suggest them will be a Liability Limited corporation. Based on their
needs LLC would be a perfect form of business for them. As their company was sole proprietorship
ran by their dad, LLC offers some advantages of a corporation, as well as some advantages of a sole
proprietorship. A limited liability company, commonly called an LLC, is a business structure that
combines the pass through taxation of a partnership or sole proprietorship with the limited
liability of a corporation. (Nolo, 2014, n.a.) The characteristics of LLCs and a partnership
company are somewhat similar as they both provide flexibility to the management and also the
benefit of pass through taxation. The Owners of an LLC are called members. As most states do
not have any limit on ownership, members can be individuals, companies, other LLCs and foreign
individuals. There is no limit on the number of members in LLC. Some LLC also have only one
owner, which is called a single member, and it is allowed in most of the states. Most states do not
restrict ownership, and so members may include individuals, corporations, other LLCs and foreign
entities (irs.gov, 2014)
There are some important factors that Alex, Bill, Carl, Devon and Xavier should know before they
move forward to convert their business into Limited Liability Company.

manufacturing of the product. Direct labor cost consists of basic pay and overtime worked in the
manufacturing of the product.
Examples of direct labor cost are:
Cost/ wages of workers directly involved in the manufacturing of the product.
Cost of special personnel required solely for the manufacturing purpose, i.e. testers, engineers and
researchers.
Other direct costs:
Other direct costs are the expenditures that cannot be considered as a direct material cost, direct

Executive Order 9066 was issued on February 19, 1942, by President Roosevelt, two months

Comprehension Is The Purpose Of Reading
According to Thompkins (2016) comprehension is the purpose of reading, students need to
understand and enjoy what they are reading to learn from it. It s the creative process of activating
prior knowledge, to explore and apply what is read. For example, if students need to know how to
play a new board game, they read the instructions for direction. Comprehension implies different
levels of thinking: from literal to inferential, then critical and evaluative. Literal is the first level of
comprehension, where the reader connects with the text, examine it and capturing the details, main
ideas, similarities and differences, is the what, why, who, when, how process. Prior knowledge is
building during this level. Instead the inferential level... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So, the educator needs to provide books that are at students reading level, use of read aloud for
challenging books, also promote reteach and reread strategies.
Instructional strategies and Activities Per Thompkins (2016), comprehension strategies are careful
conducts that students use to understand what they read and motivate them to be active in the
reading process. Strategies that include thinking are known as cognitive, and strategies that help
children reflect on own thinking are called metacognition. An example of cognitive strategy is
prediction as it is a thinking process, instead monitoring own reading is a metacognition strategy.
Instructional strategies and activities that develops comprehension skills are
Graphic and semantic organizers: they help students organize thoughts of a topic concept to broader
concepts; It will help children understand and connect with the text, it will help also, to be more
organized when writing a summary, and students can use visuals to examine.
Connection strategies that correlate text to background knowledge as of text to self, text to world,
and text to text. Text to self when the content connects with personal life; text to world when the
passage relates to things that are known of world from school or other resources. The last
connection, text to text is a strategy used to make connection with other known books, with
challenging critical thinking.

The Power Of Fear In Al Gore s Assault On Reason
In the book, Assault on Reason(excerpt), Al Gore uses different techniques to show one central
theme, which is how fear affects people s ability to reason and this neuroscientific phenomenon is
used by politicians to their own advantages. To Gore, making people aware of what influence fear
can have on reason is an essential step towards pointing out the problems in the political system.
Gore makes the connection between the relationship of fear and reason and the political world by
mentioning the
American Revolution since the beginning of the book: Reason may sometimes dissipate fear, but
fear frequently shuts down reason. As Edmund Burke wrote in
England twenty years before the American Revolution, No passion so effectually robs the mind of
all its powers of acting and reasoning as fear. (Gore 23)
Gore shows the importance of this subject by talking about how leaders attitude towards fear can
affect national success. If the leaders use fear to control citizens, the nation can lose its ability to
make the right decision at important times. Gore directly points out the administration and press
are responsible for using fear to manipulate citizens. He introduces his central theme early in the
book to raise the interest of the readers: Clearly, the current administration has misused fear to
manipulate the political process, and I will return to this issue later in this chapter......A free press
is supposed to function as our democracy s immune system against such gross errors of fact and
understanding......When errors of fact and judgement are no longer caught and neutralized by the
nation s immune system, it is time to examine the problem and to work toward good health in our
political discourse (Gore 26).
After, Gore starts examining the root of the problem by explaining the neuroscience behind the
power of fear. Gore goes into depth about the effect trauma have on people, making the fear
response always feel present. Even telling traumatic stories or watching traumatic events on TV can
trigger the same response. Gore uses
9/11 TV viewers as an example, One analyst of this study said of respondents describing their
reactions to 9/11, Those who watched the most television reported the most stress. People who

The Underdogs Essay
HIST 342
The Underdogs
Second Examination (Part I)
Mariano Azuela s The Underdogs tells the story of a dauntless Indian farmer who almost
unintentionally rises to a generalship in Pancho Villa s rebel army during the Mexican Revolution
of 1910. Though the events that occur throughout the book are not actual events that took place
during the revolution, Azuela is able to paint a very realistic picture of the revolution and leaves a
bitter taste in the mouth of the reader as one witnesses the failure of the rebels. This novel is a great
teaching tool that reveals truths of the revolution that would not have been given justice through
the traditional historical scholarship. Through fictional characters, Azuela s The Underdogs... Show

Other character is the novel represent those who were faithful follower of these great leaders.
These characters include: Manteca, Quail, Pancracio, Meco, Serapio, Antonio, and Venacio.
These are all characters who fought and died along side Demetrio and showed faith in their
commander in chief. Azuela shows the readers how some followers lost sight of what they were
fighting for as the revolution drug on. Furthermore, he also shows how some of the rebels could
be ruthless and would subject innocent citizens to mistreatment, as the reader clearly sees
through Blondie when he shoots bear bottles off the head of a waiter. The reader is also forced
to question the goals of some of the followers as they seem to still where ever they go. Luis
Cervantes was a character who portrayed those people who were well educated about the
revolution and knew exactly what they were fighting for. Because he was so knowledgeable, he
could be looked at as Demetrio s right hand, as many leaders had trustworthy people they turned
to in the wake of the revolution. However, he abandons Demetrio and his men towards the end of
the book. This makes the reader wonder if he was tired and gave up on the cause, as many
followers of the revolution did, or if he foresaw the defeat of Demetrio and got out while he could.

Analysis Of I Love Lucy
What are audience of this text persuaded to believe, think, or do and how is this persuasion
accomplished?
I love Lucy is one of the most popular and legendary television shows from the 50 s with a large
audience. As well as it has played an important role on the basic element of the sitcom genre. The
fame of this comedy show is for the skills of the actors like Lucille Ball (Lucy) and Ricky Ricardo.
This show is about the daily life of marriage. Through this show the audience can relate to middle
class couples. This young couple illustrates the experiences of a typical America marriage. This
show allows the audience to identify how the family roles and the roles of men and women
should be. For example it could be distinguished that Lucy is assumed the roles as the common
house wife while Ricky maintains the house. Here the audience is persuaded and made to believe
that it should be thus the rules of a family you can see the roles and the behaviors that are
presented and the interpretation towards the women when Ricky expect his wife to obey him. Also
Lucy constantly struggled to be more than a housewife to which many women have also attempted
to divert. The episodes of I love Lucy show that the intelligence of women is not valued. This
means that the audience is persuaded and made to think that women are not smart. The
representation for the role of genders can also be seen though Ricky since he represents the
predominant. It can be said that the domestic ideology of

the town I live in. Although our town isn t that well known it still receives some attention and our

Environmental Consequences Of The Green Economy
Environmental assets are subject to over consumption and exploitation, resulting in environmental
damage because of the absence of an economic value associated with them (Wood, 2011). Since
these environmental assets or ecosystem services are not owned, or lack price tags, there is no
economic incentive to protect them. This brings forth an important dichotomy between the
environment and the economy. The economic and environmental challenges we face today are of
great concern for subsequent generations and unless urgent action is initiated, the consequences
could unfold with the daunting prospect of a long and deep recession with increasing
unemployment rates and decreasing output and an even greater ecological catastrophe (Wilson,
2013; Wood, 2011). The green economy poses a solution that tackles both these challenges together
by safeguarding environmental protection through the creation of markets for ecosystem services
which, in turn, can benefit the economy. This paper will discuss some of the benefits and
problems arising from the idea of a green economy and look at the example of the carbon market to
assess whether it achieves meaningful environmental protection or is just another ploy that fails to
achieve real solutions that protect the environment or reduce the effects of climate change. 2.What

The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison
All too often, people are judged based on their appearance, causing them to pretend to be someone
they truly are not. This is true in the instance of racism, which is a socially constructed idea
discriminating against people based on their skin color (Takaki). The people that are victims of
this discrimination will sometimes internalize their feelings when they are separated by a
community. Psychoanalytic theory is seen in a text depicting a character who is motivated by
psychological desires or conflicts. It will show how the human experience is defined by
psychological struggle (Tyson). In Toni Morrisons The Bluest Eye, the character Pecola Breedlove
internalizes her discrimination due to her skin color and her family reputation. By the end of the
novel, she is shunned by the community, and she has no choice but to be her own friend. Pecola is
raped by her father, which causes her to personify her doubts in an attempt to obtain compliments
for her blue eyes, as she subconsciously avoids rejection by her community.
According to the society in which she lives, when Pecola is raped by her father, the community
treats her as an outcast because she could have prevented her pregnancy. Claudia and Frieda
overhear women talking while they are selling seeds, and one of the women says, She carry some
of the blame... How come she didn t fight him [Cholly]? (Morrison 189). Her community believes
that Pecola is equally responsible for being raped, even though the same people admit

The Book of Contemplation / Islam and the Crusades From reading The Book of Contemplation I
feel that the Franks are Inferior to the Muslims, in the eyes of Usama Ibn Munqidh. Throughout the
literature when Usama refers to the Franks, a may God curse them usually follows. Usama rarely
sheds a positive light on the Franks beliefs, actions, or practice of medicine. The first instance of
Usama referencing the Franks was in the story In the service of Nur Al Din (Munqidh 43). In the
story Usamas family and possessions were being transported from Egypt to come to be with him.
For the journey they were granted safe passage from the King of the Franks. Upon arriving to Acre,

Mahmud, had fallen and when Usama s group turned back to get him another had fallen and put
in a choke hold by a Frankish knight, a few more spear thrusts were able to free him (Munqidh

his animal (Munqidh 71). The Franks captured the man and his beast, afterwards Usama and his
Uncle had 20 men ride off to rescue the man, shortly after the men turned back because they
carried no spears. Jum a rode off alone in pursuit and attacked the horsemen, chasing them back to
their tents. The lord of Antioch had watched what happened and sent his men to disarm the two
soldiers, after which the lord of Antioch had chastised his men saying One Muslim horseman
chases away two Frankish Knights! You aren t men you re women! In the story The Status of the
Knight among the Franks Usama plainly states a few of his criticizing views of the Franks. The
first sentence of the story says, The Franks (may God confound them) have none of the human
virtues except for courage (Munqidh 76). They have neither precedence nor high rank except that of
the knights it is they who are the masters of legal reasoning, judgment and sentencing (Munqidh

The commercials premise is unsuspecting men meet a beautiful woman in a coffee shop for a blind

the woman offers to give them a ride home in her Ford Mustang. Initially during the drive home the
womanpretends she is not familiar with drivingthe car, most of the men offer her instructions and
one suggests that she let him drive to show her what the car can really do. Shortly into the drive
home, she pulls into an empty parking lot and really pushes the car to the limits. She performs a
multitude of highly skilled maneuvers, burnouts, high speed stopping, drifting, etc. What all of
these men did not know is this woman is actually a professional stunt driver and is more than
capable of driving this powerful vehicle. The men s reactions were hilarious. Most of them
seemed to enjoy the adrenaline fueled ride, while others looked horrified sitting in the passenger
seat. Being a bit of an adrenaline junky myself, I really enjoyed this advertisement. I could feel my

Allow the ventilation fan to run during showers and baths, and for 20 minutes afterwards to

In this poem, the writer uses regular verse and traditional pattern of rhythm and rhyme to give
impact to his unexpected imagery of the end of a relationship when he cuts himself off from the
rest of the his life because his grief is too much. To describe the incredible pain and isolation of
when someone you love leaves you and the way time seems insignificant, the writer starts the poem
by reiterating the title, creating emphasis by his use of assonance of the monosyllables: Stop all

I think that Auden is pointing exactly (satirically) to how ridiculous that leap is.
Who or what is he writing about? Is it about a lover, male or female? This seems unlikely with the
nihilistic view of being blasted out of the universe in the final stanza. A really deep love leaves
something behind, even if you do not believe in an afterlife. If you gave your eulogy at a funeral,
could you really say that this is the end,in a sarcastic tome, and that there is nothing more, no
memories , no lasting legacies? Just nothing?
Funeral blues is a satirical piece which covers the theme of loss, the loss of his lover who was a
politician. Auden uses Over exaggeration and creating urgency in the line stop all the clocks,
cut off the telephone to show how ridiculous love can be viewed but it could be seen as a bitter
devastation for him. The cliche line i thought love would last forever is very poignant so presents
the torture one must go through when grieving to overcome. This is also depicted in the line He
was my north, my South, my East and West literally he was his everything and the idea of his loss
of direction clearly is emphasized to show the satirical view.
In the poem Funeral Blues, W.H. Audens choice of diction allows the reader a greater
understanding of the intensity and depth of feeling experienced upon the loss of a loved one.
Likewise, the symbolism used by the poet

How Did Gandhi Influence The Civil Rights Movement
The Civil Rights Movement was a very influential time in American history. During the 1950 s

The Positive Impacts Of Superheroes
Superheroes are very popular in our society, most people in today s world spend their time either
watching superhero movies or reading superhero comic books. Although there are many reasons
why superhero fans are so popular, the most important ones are, their movies are related to the
current world issues, such as fight prejudice, stereotype, good team work, and they always inspire
the young children. Superheroes having powers doesn t mean that they re not humans, They can
save the world and fight criminals but they still have to deal with the fact of being a human being
because they also face negative things like prejudice and stereotype. Superheroes fighting these will
influence the children to do the same thing.
This has a positive impact on children s life because it teaches them fight prejudice, be strong and
be proud of who they re. It helps young children to encourage each other to not hide their nature
from the society in order to avoid stress and isolation. In real life, homosexual people tend to hide
their true nature because they think they re different from the people the fact that they go out and
marry the same sex. Prejudice is and was common back then where people are discriminated
because of their racial, religion, and gender. Thus the Holocaust, according to the authoritarian
personality theory, occurred because Germans were predisposed to not think of Jews as German
and to obey Nazi authority demands, even if such demands required immoral behavior

Characteristics Of Romantic And Familial Love
Love is a unique aspect of the human condition that does not seem to exist in any other lifeform.
In spite of this, like many other traits that stem from evolution, it is likely that love is a product
of that process as well. Regardless of whether it is subconscious or not, romantic and familial love
seem to go hand in hand as people tend to seek qualities that may benefit a future family. It can be
argued that the sensation felt by a large majority of the population, love, can be attributed to the
selfish genes that inhabit the body. For the sake of argument, love can be described as the
relationship between people and their concern for each other. Dawkins introduces processes like kin
selection, mating strategies, and reciprocal altruismwhich may play a role in both romantic and
familial love. To summarize these processes: kin selection is when an organism risks their own
well being for a relative to increase the likelihood of genereplication, mating strategies describe the
methods in which an organism uses to attract a mate, and reciprocal altruism is acting in a manner
that temporarily reduces one s well being with the assumption that the apparent act of altruism will
be reciprocated.
Perhaps the most obvious example of kin selection is observed in familial relationships. Members
of the family typically have a greater degree of care for each other in comparison to those
unrelated. This love, or in this case, this concern for those related can be explained using the

Biography of the Seventh Earl of Shaftesbury
The Seventh Earl of Shaftesbury was pre eminently a figure of Victorian England, and therefore
needs to be understood within the historical context of his times. This includes what is, perhaps, the
most salient motivating factor in Shaftesbury s great accomplishments in social reform and
philanthropy his religion. Christianityin Victorian England was, above all else, Christianity in
crisis. Those with a shallow sense of history will generally point to the publication of Darwin s
Origin of Species in 1859 as if that were enough to sum up the crisis of Christianity in this time
period but in reality there were massive social changes taking place in England during this time.
After all, it was before Darwin that the Victorian poet and social critic Matthew Arnold wrote his
famous poetic complaint about the decline of belief in England, Dover Beach :
The Sea of Faith
Was once, too, at the full, and round earth s shore
Lay like the folds of a bright girdle furl d.
But now I only hear
Its melancholy, long, withdrawing roar... (Arnold 214)
In Shaftesbury s lifetime, Christianity s social message was particularly endangered. The Industrial
Revolution had begun in the period immediately preceding the Victorian era, and continued with
remorseless rapidity throughout the Victorian period: this had led to massive inequalities of
wealth, combined with the total erosion of traditional ways of life in the rural period, causing the
displaced poor to move to cities. Shaftesbury s

used to repair the U.S. s damaged economy. However, Pickens idea, like every alternative oil
plan, has its flaws. If Pickens Plan was implemented, the U.S. would not solely be affected; the
world and its economy would be shaken. The supply and demand of oil would fluctuate
dangerously, as would its prices.
According to Rediff Business (2013), the United States is ranked number one in worldwide oil
consumption. As of 2012, the U.S. was using 19,150,000 barrels ... Show more content on

Since the U.S. is such a prominent oil buyer from as Corey Flintoff (2012) informs countries such
as Canada, Africa, Latin America, and others, a sudden cease of demand would rock the world s
economy. As of now, the U.S. demand of oil is at an equilibrium with the oil being supplied. If
the U.S. demand of oil dropped dramatically, as Pickens Plan says it should, oil supplying
countries would scramble to compensate for lost profits. In theory with the supply and demand
model, the cost and supply of oil would skyrocket, while demand would be nonexistent. Since oil
would be so costly, countries that purchase oil would be unable to afford it anymore, resulting in
an even higher increase of prices and steeper decrease of consumers. With the loss of the U.S. as a
consumer, the economies of these countries would suffer; this suffering would then spread
worldwide, affecting everyone

Imperfection Of Marriage In Middlemarch By George Eliot
Imperfection of marriage in Middlemarch by George Eliot
Introduction
Middlemarch, A Study of Provincial Life is a novel by English author George Eliot, first published
in eight instalments during 1871. The novel is set in the fictitious Midlands town of Middlemarch
during 1829 32, and it comprises several distinct stories and a large cast of characters. Significant
themes include the status of women, the nature of marriage, idealism, self interest, religion,
hypocrisy, political reform, and education.
Although containing comical elements, Middlemarch is a work of realism that refers to many
historical events: the 1832 Reform Act, the beginnings of the railways, the death of King George
IV, and the succession of his brother, the Duke of Clarence. In addition, the work incorporates
contemporary medical science and examines the deeply reactionary mindset found within a settled
community facing the prospect of unwelcome change.
George Eliot began writing the two pieces that would eventually form Middlemarch during the
years 1869 70 and completed the novel in 1871. Although the first reviews were mixed, it is now
widely regarded as her best work and one of the greatest novels in English.
Marriage At A Glance
Marriage is one of the major themes in Middlemarch as, according to critic Francis George Steiner,
both principle plots are case studies of unsuccessful marriage .Within this account is the suggestion
that the lives of Dorothea and Lydgate are unfilled

Hitler s Last Days Book Report
Over the past couple weeks, I have been reading Hitler s Last Days: The Death of the Nazi
Regime and the World s Most Notorious Dictator by Bill O Reilly. The novel describes the days
leading up to Adolf Hitler s death, and how a series of brilliant tactical decisions by the soviets,
ultimately ended the war on the eastern front. Hitler was hiding out in his FГјhrerbunker, knowing
the inevitability of the soviet troops finding him, in the already soviet occupied Berlin. As the
soviets advanced further, closing in on Hitler s bunker, Hitler knew his fate was dawning closer.
He was residing in the bunker with his girlfriend Eva Braun, and many officers. Eva and Adolf got
married, and shortly after, they both took their own lives. Adolf took a

The Theory Of Deconstruction And Its Impact On Postmodern...
Through The Wexner Center to Analysis Deconstructionism
1.Deconstructionism
Deconstructionism developed in late 1980s by postmodern architecture. The core theory is
deconstruction that eliminates construction then forms it together in different way. The first time
of deconstruction speak of was Jacques Derrida in 1920s, after that a lot of architect influenced by
him, like Peter Eisenman who designed The Wexner Center in OSU. Deconstruction is the critical
of stands on modernist orthodoxy principles. It uses modernism vocabulary, but reversed and reform
construction of the relationship between the various and vocabularies. It also negated the
traditional basic design principles (aesthetics, mechanics, function) in the logical, then process a
new meaning of the style of architecture. With the idea of decomposition, emphasizing the broken
and overlay, restructuring, and attaches great importance to the individual and the widget itself,
against the unity and create a fragmented and uncertainty feeling for the building. In the essence,
the deconstruction is not as popular as the Russia s structuralism in 1920 s, the Dutch style in
1918 1928, or the German Bauhaus design academic style in 1919 1933. Those styles become the
source of a movement with no more modernism, internationalism design that decade of power
control design on the trend. However, for deconstruction, it is still a kind of person, small part
experiment. It has more expressive and special personal

Essay about George Babbitt of Sinclair Lewis Babbitt
George Babbitt: Image of a Presbyterian
In Babbitt, Sinclair Lewis portrays religion as a corrupt business. In fact, he emphasizes this by
focusing on his main character George Babbitt. George Babbitt is characterized as a businessman
in Zenith. He is a man preoccupied about his reputation and his image before the main leaders of
the town he lives in. Lewis creates a hypocritical figure for Babbitt through his reasons for being a
Presbyterian. He says that if you were to question Babbitt about his religion he would say, My
religion is to serve my fellow men, to honor my brother as myself, and to do my bit to make life
happier for one and for all (199). Of course, if you heard this from Babbitt you would ... Show more

His participation within his religious denomination was his stepping stool. Chum Frink and
Mr.Eathorne accepted Babbitt because of his proposals for the Sunday School. He wanted to divide
the school into four armies with militaristic characteristics. This would help the children feel as if
they were doing something worthy. Secondly, he insisted on improvement of the advertising
committee (Lewis 207). This goes to show you how businesslike the Sunday School was becoming.
Babbitt was only thinking of business morals and forgetting the religious morals.
Lewis also draws an image of George Babbitt s sanctimoniousness through his idea of Hell. We
see Babbitt s hypocrisy when he says, if one was a Bad Man, that is, if he murdered or
committed burglary or used cocaine or had mistresses or sold non existent real estate, he would
be punished (199). Notice how everything Babbitt mentions at the time is something he has not
done, however as he continues to live his life he eventually pulls a crooked real estate deal and
begins to cheat on his wife, Myra. Babbitt s flirtatious character is seen when he dates several
women and is careless because of his wife s absence. Lewis practically points out Babbitt s
hypocrisy through his failure to comply with his own criteria of who does and who does not go to
Hell.
Lewis portrays the Presbyterian Church

Muda Saffir s The Monster Men
Everyone wants to be happy. Morals dictate on how one achieve their happiness and what that
happiness means to them. Some people give the priority of their happiness over the well being of
others and feel no remorse to the actions they have taken to become happy. By hurting others for
one s own gain, they become monsters rather than being men. One doesn t need to be evil to
humans to be considered a monster. The treatment that the monsters receive in Edgar Rice
Burroughs The Monster Men , perpetuates the theme that in this story men are the real monsters.
There are times that men make it obvious that they are monsters and will do terrible things no
matter who is hurt. In the beginning, it was quite clear that Muda Saffir was a monster and... Show

It is a classic trope in all kinds of medias to portray the humans, or in this case von Horn, as the
savior and the hero of the story. In the end of the story it is made clear that man is really the
antagonist of the story and the force he is fighting, or Number 13, is the one suffering. ( Humans
Are the Real Monster ). Despite Carl von Horn s previous actions, he was actually a monster
who only wanted to steal the treasure and have Virginia to himself, even if she did not want to
go with him. In some cases the antagonist does not realise that they are in fact the bad guy and
believe that they are in the right. In The Monster Men, von Horn tells a lie to Number 13 that
both von Horn and Number 13 wholeheartedly believed. All this was inspired by the principle
which is quite true in itself that in the big lie there is always a certain force of credibility;
because the broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of
their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily, and thus in the primitive simplicity of
their minds they are more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they
themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large scale
falsehoods. ( Adolf Hitler s words in German with English translation ). Number 13 falls for this
big lie that von Horn tells because he doesn t particularly know about immoralities like lieing, so
when von Horn tells him that Virginia, who has not met him at this point, is disgusted by him and
his very existence he believes it. This big lie pulls at Number 13 s conscious throughout the story
but against his better judgement he is able to ignore it and pursue his love for Virginia and
eventually end up being with her as a happy married couple. There are times that those who

Similarities Between Midaq Alley And The Yacoubian Building
In the novels Midaq Alley and The Yacoubian Building, we are shown the ongoing, daily struggles
of the working poor in both colonial and postcolonial Egypt. Both share central, overarching
themes such as debauchery, desperation, and unstable political situations. The two settings are
both examples of microcosms, cities within a city . Midaq Alley is a small, dead end neighborhood
in 1940 s Cairothat consists of various shops and apartments. Within each of these buildings are
characters that live completely separate lives but all have the same aspirations, to experience the
world outside and the wealth it has. The Yacoubian Buildingis also set in Cairo during the turbulent
1990 s. Similarly, the characters were all tenants of a large apartment building, living in cramped
and decrepit spaces.
Promiscuity played a large role for multiple characters in both novels. Jealousy, infidelity, and
homosexuality are all depicted openly and all have central parts in the separate stories. Midaq
Alley introduced us to the character Hamida, an impoverished young woman who is desperate to
find a partner who is financially stable. As she explored a relationship with Abbas, another
prominent figure was also trying to flatter her. Knowing that she sought someone with money,
Salim Alwan, an older, wealthy businessman with voracious sexual desires had an intense lust for
Hamida. A character who was in a similar situation to Hamida is Busayna from The Yacoubian
Building. While she was trying

Season Your Data with Theory and Common Sense in Nate...
I attended my second APICS Central Indiana Professional Development Meeting at Carmel on the
13th of March 2014. The keynote speaker was Bill Whiteside, who is a founder of Demand
Solution Northeast, which markets and supports the Demand Solution suite of forecasting and
supply chain management software in the Northeast US. He is a graduate of the University of
Notre Dame and a professional member of APICS. At that dinner event, he presented twelve supply
chain forecastinglesson from The Signal and The Noise.
The Signal and The Noise book is about the overwhelming proliferation of data and how so much
of that data can produce more noise (garbage) than the signal (truth). The book told us how to find
the truth amidst all the noise and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lesson number three is it is better to be a fox than a hedgehog . On the book, Silver expands this
idea and notes that a fox know many things because it s likely to intensely question itself and
gather information from a variety of sources. A hedgehog, on the other hand, will be more likely
to rely on a single source of conventional wisdom. This idea encourage us to be resourceful like a
fox, so we can be a more valuable contributor during the collaborative process. Collaboration is
typically understood as a process in which multiple people provide input .However, collaboration
can also be performed on an individual basis by collecting the information we need to shape to
temper our projections and plans.
Lesson number four is polls become more accurate the closer you get to the Election Day . This
idea encourage us to continually update our forecast especially when we are approaching a decision
point. The farther into the future you forecast, the less accurate your forecasts are likely to be. The
closer you can update your forecasts to the point of decision, the more you improve your chances
for accuracy. But, we need to notice if we wait too long to share our forecasts in order to ensure
maximum accuracy, then we are defeating the purpose of the forecasting process. The optimal time
to commit to a forecast is when a decision has to be made based on that forecast. For example, a
commitment to production or to a purchase. We need

  • 2. The Role Of National Character And The Political Institutions During the 1800s, the concept of national character was a subject of development and discussion, especially in France. Many philosophers had an agreement in general that each nation was/had unique characteristics, but there are many opinions as to what makes a national character. There was a lot of focus on the spiritual and physical characteristics and their role in shaping the national traits. These philosophers had a different perspective on the relationship between the national character and the political institutions. The concept of national character expanded in its significance in regards to its importance and complexity from a political standpoint. At the beginning of the 1800s, the national character idea was viewed as a historical fact and towards the end, it was viewed as a current force of politics that required some fostering to reforms. This led this idea to moving from the realm of speculation to a more theoretical realm with a practical applicability. This paper is going to analyzing the concept of national character from the implications on France in the 1800s and its perspective of the French philosophers. A national character is defined as an expression that gives a description of all forms of collective self perception, conduct as well as collective self perception that are shared by the various individuals inhabiting a modern nation state1. It demonstrates the issues of psychosocial and cultural homogeneity with the citizens of each nation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Cindy Sherman Research Paper The artist I researched is Cindy Sherman. She is a American Photographer born on January 19, 1954 in Glen Ridge, New jersey. Her parents had five children and Cindy was the youngest of them all. Her parents were not quit interested in art. Her dad was a engineer and her mom was a teacher. In the early 1970s, Cindy enrolled at State University of New York to study art. There, Cindy discovered that painting was not her gift. Cindy stated, I didn t want to make high art, I had no interest in using paint, I wanted to find something that anyone could relate to without knowing about contemporary art. I wasn t thinking in terms of precious prints or archival quality; I didn t want the work to seem like a commodity. She could not express her artwork through panting. Instead, she began to take photos. A lot of photographers take photos of other people and objects. Cindy is different. She mostly took... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is a picture of Sherman bent down and looking up. She has both of her hands down with a whit collard shirt on. Sherman is looking up with brown short wet hair. Her whole background is dark, while the light is specifically on her. It looks as if she is terrified. She is playing the role of the scream queen in the movie King Kong and Dorothy from the Wizard of oz. I honestly do not understand how this artwork demonstrates the roles that Sherman are playing. When I looked at the picture and read the title, I interpreted she was scared and has been hurt before. She got her heart broke and discovered that true love is only in fairy tales, however, her fairytale was a disaster. This was not the meaning of the photo at all. According to The Art Story website, By freezing the image into a kind of sorry, secular icon, Sherman demonstrates how art may act as a visual truth serum, a force of social change by way of its ability to stop a viewer in his/her tracks and suggest how certain assumptions are culturally inherited, not necessarily ... • 4. Salmon Facts Salmon Fish Facts. Various species of salmon span from Alaska and to the Pacific Ocean, with each species reproducing in the same fascinating way. The uncommonly high amount of omega 3 fatty acids found in salmon make it a popular nutritional choice for good health. While there s been an increase in demand for salmon, there s been a subsequent decrease in the wild salmon population; in an effort to reverse this decrease, salmon farms were created and now account for the majority of the world s salmon. Facts About Salmon The Pacific Ocean houses the majority of wild salmon, including the Cherry salmon and the group of fish known as the Alaskan salmon which consists of: the Chinook salmon, the largest of all the Pacific salmon; the Chum, sometimes known as the dog salmon; the Coho salmon, or silver salmon; the Pink salmon, the smallest of all the Pacific salmon; and the Sockeye, also known as the Red or the Blueback, salmon. The other two species of salmon include the Atlantic salmon, the only salmon to inhabit the Atlantic, and the huchen or Danube salmon. One extraordinary fact about ... They promote healthy cell functioning, which aids in brain development and performance. Omega 3 fatty acids also reduce inflammation in the joints, helping to alleviate arthritis pain. While some prefer buying their omega 3s at health food stores, eating salmon is in fact healthier than taking fish oil capsules; instead, supplementing these capsules for the natural intake of omega 3 fatty acids can actually cause heart problems. The successes of his past lineage prepared and propelled him to take on the tremendous task of expanding, governing and reforming the Frankish Empire. Charlemagne incredible accomplishment during his sovereignty. For he not only invented an efficient way to govern his people call feudalism, he also created a way to keep the loyalty to his empire through inspectors. He led countless conquests against the various adversaries that once opposed the Holy Roman Empire, which expanded his empire across the greater half of Europe. With his grand conquests a solidification between the Catholic Church and the State began to take hold. Charlemagnebeing a keen individual saw great opportunity within the partnership with the Church especially ones of the monasteries. Using them to usher in the Carolingian renaissance. The crowning of Charlemagne as Holy Roman Emperor fashioned a turning point that would forever change the path of Europe. Within years after his death, though, Charlemagne once boundless empire wasted away. Charlemagne s reign indeed greatly influenced the course of Europe in ways he had only hoped it would. But as history often shows for every one event there are often several incantations and interpretations. • 6. Poor Electricity Supply And Lack Of Internet Connectivity 3.1. 3 Poor Electricity Supply and Lack of Internet Connectivity Lack of constant supply of electricity has also been identified by many researchers as a major barrier to a successful wider implementation and adoption of EHR in this region (Oluoch, et al., 2012; Awokola, et al., 2012; Pantuvo et al., 2011). For instance, Awokola and colleagues reported that for many months, they could not use the EHR consistently because of constant power outage. On some occasions, the power packs in some central processing units of the table top computers got damaged and had to be replaced. In addition, Pantuvo et al. (2011) stated that many hospitals in this region do not have access to constant electricity supply. In fact, many hospitals depend mainly on the alternative power supply commonly called generator for their operations. Due to the infrastructure problems throughout the country and lack of guarantee of always on internet connection or even ensure an uninterrupted electrical supply, nationwide adoption/ wider implementation of EHR in Nigeria may not be possible (Chaplin et al., 2015). Furthermore, the study conducted on the use of health information and communication technologies (HICTs) by health workers in seven state hospitals and a private hospital in the North Eastern Zone, Ogun State, Nigeria. • 7. Biography Of Walter Benjamin, Theodor Adorno And Max... Walter Benjamin, Theodor Adorno and Max Horkheimer were alltheorists of the Frankfurt School and they were the first to introduce the idea of the culture industry, the mass marketing of culture in the modern era. However, Walter Benjamin gives a different perspective on the role of culture in modern society, he believed that the possibility of mechanical reproduction (photography) was demolishing the integrity of art in modern society . He gives the example of the Mona Lisa painting by leonardo da vinci. The painting has a specific the existence and particular location but with mechanical reproduction it can be copied multiple different times and occupy more than one place at a time. The question posed by Benjamin is what are we missing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For Benjamin, the mechanical production of art democratizes cultural production Thus It loses its aura and authority as it becomes available to everyone. We can extend this to an analysis of media today in which everyone can be an actor and everyone can be a producer; the difference between high art and the popular culture are blurred. Therefore, from these two Frankfurt theorists we have a different view of the culture and the culture industry. Benjamin focuses on the democratization of culture that is made available by the production of art while Adorno and Horkheimer argue the ways in which art become more linked to commercial exploitation. It can be suggested through the readings of Adorno and Horkheimer s work that they seem to be eliciting the question of whether people believe everything that the culture tells them and trying to make sense of the distinct differences between the messages of the culture industry and the public s realities thus creating an environment where autonomous independent individuals, who are able to think for themselves, can form. Both theorists seem to be exploring how cultural meaning is generated and believe that the structures which promote and deliver these messages of cultural influence is powerful. Most Americans considered him to be one of the greatest presidents we had, and admired his humor. In September of 1962 he made a speech called, Going to the Moon at a university in Texas to support NASA in launching people on the moon for the first time ever in history. His speech illustrates many examples of rhetorical strategies, one being repetition. This is very common to find and comes up frequently. The second example of rhetoricused is pathos and the last is connotative diction. Small doses of repetition are scattered throughout Kennedy s speech. He explains that even though it s a challenge, it will aid our power in the world. Pathos is a form of expression and a feeling of pity or compassion. He uses it at the beginning of his speech, We meet at a college noted for knowledge, in a city noted for progress, in a State noted for strength, and we stand in need of all three, for we meet in an hour of change and challenge, in a decade of hope and fear, in an age of both knowledge and ignorance. The greater our knowledge increases, the greater our ignorance unfolds (1). In this quote, John F. Kennedy describes where he is, to try and influence his audience about how this trip to the moon is much needed and well deserved. The next example of pathos could also be repetition. This is a breathtaking pace, and such a pace cannot help but create new ills as it dispels old, new ignorance, new problems, new dangers. Surely the opening vistas of space promise high costs and hardships, as well as high reward (1). It is depicted from this quote that Kennedy feels anxious yet thrilled for this ... • 12. Napoleon Bonaparte s Big Dictator In Small Packaging Big Dictator in Small Packaging Tall, dark, and handsome are not the adjectives one might use to describe Napoleon Bonaparte. Vulgar, ruthless, and conniving are the ones some would if they were so inclined... Despite the controversy over the shockingly short man s rule, his road to success and his untimely downfall undeniably played a large role in shaping modern France. However, what is more interesting is what shaped this historic dictator. And, it all began with his birth. Napoleon Bonaparte s early life turned from bitter sadness to unexpected accomplishment. Born August 15, 1769 into a large, impoverished family during a war between his homeland Corsica and the mighty France, it seemed that, even then, his livelihood and well being were being challenged. His parents, Letizia and Carlo, wrestled to keep food on the table after the French war, and chose to move to France to pursue a better life. To Napoleon s distaste, his father was quick to submit to French customs and began to dress and behave just like a Frenchman ( To Destiny ). Furthermore, when Bonaparte turned nine, his father gave him his first stepping stone by procuring him a scholarship to a French school. It was at this school that Bonaparte began to truly feel set apart. With his yellow, Corsican skin, prideful ambience, and the fact that he hardly spoke French, Napoleon did not even try to fit in. At the age of fifteen, he attended the Royal Military Academy of France. One teacher described him as, quiet and solitary. Frightfully egotistical. Proud, ambitious, aspiring to everything ( To Destiny ). He would go far, his school report read, in favorable circumstances ( To Destiny ). However, in 1785 at the age of 16, he finished school and secured the title of Second Lieutenant. It was during this time that he became a genius at sighting a gun, deploying soldiers, and handling rammer and shot. Yet, he felt useless. For a man who sensed he was destined for greatness, Second Lieutenant was not a satisfactory vocation. He believed the regime would not grant him the high title he yearned for because he was a no name. For that reason, he worked to be an author instead. He wrote a quick history of Corsica and attempted writing a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Discrimination Against Women s Rights Alexandra Heck Contemp Perspectives Raju Parrakkal 13 October 2015 Women s Rights Discrimination against women has been a phenomenon for centuries, lack of women s rights and equality is a long overdue issue that needs to be abolished. The need to make a concrete connection between human rights and women s rights is ironic considering that one half of the global population is female (Hawkins 1). Gender inequality is the pressing current human rights issue, including disparities in education, employment, healthcare, power and decision making, violence, and poverty that impacts billions of women and girls from every part of the world throughout their lifetime (UN Statistical Division, 2010; UN Women, 2011a). The United Nationshas extended efforts for growing global rights effort to compensated the deeply rooted gender inequality (Hawkins 1). This paper addresses gender based inequality and current global human rights initiatives focused on women, and action taken by women and human rights defenders (Hawkins 1). While human rights violations can affect all groups, including women (1), women s issues are not the same as gender issues, although the terms are often used interchangeably (1). In its annual report, the UN Population Fund note that gender inequality works to the disadvantages of both women and men through impeding the growth of individuals, the development of countries, and the evolution of societies (UN Statistical Division, 2010, UN Women, 2000). • 14. The Importance Of The Past In The Dew Breaker The past is so vital to the characters of Danticat s novel The Dew Breaker because despite most of the trauma the characters have undergone in the past, they must keep living with it and tell their story. One piece of symbolism that is persistent between every chapter are the scars that every character has. Scars have been a central image of this novel both literally and metaphorically. Each character has their unique scars that they must carry with them. The story, in the end, talks about how the scars of the pastare the scars of the future. Every scar is a symbol of the characters painful history that they had to overcome, and now they must carry their past with themselves forever. The scars of the past define precisely the importance of the past for every individual character. The past is a part of all people at all moment. Past scars lie over all of the characters in this novel. A character like Ka s father is once corrupted by partaking in a violent, dictatorial regime. A character like Beatrice is haunted by the horrors that impose on her in the past. The past is inescapable because it is a core part of a person that it largely dictates the reasoning behind their actions in presentsituations. The past is something which haunts each of the characters in the novel for different reasons. It left a scar on them that they must forever live with. The past haunts ka s father as a dew breaker under the authority of a Haitian Dictator. My father never liked ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. The High Cost of Employee Turnover in Business When accounting for the costs (both real costs, such as time taken to select and recruit a replacement, and also opportunity costs, such as lost productivity), the cost of employee turnover to for profit organizations has been estimated to be between 30% (the figure used by the American Management Association) to upwards of 150% of the employees remuneration package.[4] There are both direct and indirect costs. Direct costs relate to the leaving costs, replacement costs and transitions costs, and indirect costs relate to the loss of production, reduced performance levels, unnecessary overtime and low morale. The true cost of turnover is going to depend on a number of variable including ease or difficulty in filling the position and the nature of the job itself. In a healthcare context, staff turnover has been associated with worse patient outcomes.[5] Internal versus external[edit] Like recruitment, turnover can be classified as internal or external .[6] Internal turnover involves employees leaving their current positions and taking new positions within the same organization. Both positive (such as increased morale from the change of task and supervisor) and negative (such as project/relational disruption, or the Peter Principle) effects of internal turnover exist, and therefore, it may be equally important to monitor this form of turnover as it is to monitor its external counterpart. Internal turnover might be moderated and controlled by typical HR mechanisms, such as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Auguste Comte s Sociological Approach To The Scientific... Sociology is the study of human social relationships and institutions and the study of social problems. Sociology investigates the social causes and consequences of such things as prejudice and discrimination. Auguste Comte first used the term sociology in 1838 to refer to the scientific study of society. He argued that society needs scientific knowledge based on facts and evidence to solve its problems. Spencer suggested that society will correct its own defects through the natural process of survival of the fittest. Marx claimed that social conflict, especially class conflict, and competition mark all societies. Durkheim stressed the importance of studying social facts or patterns of behavior characteristic of a particular group. He advocated the use of systematic observation to study sociological events, but he also recommended that sociologists avoid considering people s attitudes when explaining society. Weber argued that sociologists must also take into account people s interpretations of events; not just the events themselves. He believed that sociologists must inquire about people s thoughts, feelings, and perceptions regarding their own behaviors. These Sociologists were the main players during the 19th and 20th century, and their prior work led to the development of Sociologyin America. Sociologists throughout the decades have sought to develop a scientific approach to the study and resolve such issues as prejudice and discrimination. Early ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As their company was sole proprietorship ran by their dad, LLC offers some advantages of a corporation, as well as some advantages of a sole proprietorship. A limited liability company, commonly called an LLC, is a business structure that combines the pass through taxation of a partnership or sole proprietorship with the limited liability of a corporation. (Nolo, 2014, n.a.) The characteristics of LLCs and a partnership company are somewhat similar as they both provide flexibility to the management and also the benefit of pass through taxation. The Owners of an LLC are called members. As most states do not have any limit on ownership, members can be individuals, companies, other LLCs and foreign individuals. There is no limit on the number of members in LLC. Some LLC also have only one owner, which is called a single member, and it is allowed in most of the states. Most states do not restrict ownership, and so members may include individuals, corporations, other LLCs and foreign entities (irs.gov, 2014) There are some important factors that Alex, Bill, Carl, Devon and Xavier should know before they move forward to convert their business into Limited Liability Company. • 22. Comprehension Is The Purpose Of Reading According to Thompkins (2016) comprehension is the purpose of reading, students need to understand and enjoy what they are reading to learn from it. It s the creative process of activating prior knowledge, to explore and apply what is read. For example, if students need to know how to play a new board game, they read the instructions for direction. Comprehension implies different levels of thinking: from literal to inferential, then critical and evaluative. The Power Of Fear In Al Gore s Assault On Reason In the book, Assault on Reason(excerpt), Al Gore uses different techniques to show one central theme, which is how fear affects people s ability to reason and this neuroscientific phenomenon is used by politicians to their own advantages. To Gore, making people aware of what influence fear can have on reason is an essential step towards pointing out the problems in the political system. Gore makes the connection between the relationship of fear and reason and the political world by mentioning the American Revolution since the beginning of the book: Reason may sometimes dissipate fear, but fear frequently shuts down reason. As Edmund Burke wrote in England twenty years before the American Revolution, No passion so effectually robs the mind of all its powers of acting and reasoning as fear. (Gore 23) Gore shows the importance of this subject by talking about how leaders attitude towards fear can affect national success. If the leaders use fear to control citizens, the nation can lose its ability to make the right decision at important times. Gore directly points out the administration and press are responsible for using fear to manipulate citizens. He introduces his central theme early in the book to raise the interest of the readers: Clearly, the current administration has misused fear to manipulate the political process, and I will return to this issue later in this chapter......A free press is supposed to function as our democracy s immune system against such gross errors of fact and understanding......When errors of fact and judgement are no longer caught and neutralized by the nation s immune system, it is time to examine the problem and to work toward good health in our political discourse (Gore 26). After, Gore starts examining the root of the problem by explaining the neuroscience behind the power of fear. Gore goes into depth about the effect trauma have on people, making the fear response always feel present. Even telling traumatic stories or watching traumatic events on TV can trigger the same response. Gore uses 9/11 TV viewers as an example, One analyst of this study said of respondents describing their reactions to 9/11, Those who watched the most television reported the most stress. • 28. Environmental Consequences Of The Green Economy Environmental assets are subject to over consumption and exploitation, resulting in environmental damage because of the absence of an economic value associated with them (Wood, 2011). Since these environmental assets or ecosystem services are not owned, or lack price tags, there is no economic incentive to protect them. This brings forth an important dichotomy between the environment and the economy. The economic and environmental challenges we face today are of great concern for subsequent generations and unless urgent action is initiated, the consequences could unfold with the daunting prospect of a long and deep recession with increasing unemployment rates and decreasing output and an even greater ecological catastrophe (Wilson, 2013; Wood, 2011). The green economy poses a solution that tackles both these challenges together by safeguarding environmental protection through the creation of markets for ecosystem services which, in turn, can benefit the economy. This paper will discuss some of the benefits and problems arising from the idea of a green economy and look at the example of the carbon market to assess whether it achieves meaningful environmental protection or is just another ploy that fails to achieve real solutions that protect the environment or reduce the effects of climate change. 2.What is the Green Economy ? This is true in the instance of racism, which is a socially constructed idea discriminating against people based on their skin color (Takaki). The people that are victims of this discrimination will sometimes internalize their feelings when they are separated by a community. Psychoanalytic theory is seen in a text depicting a character who is motivated by psychological desires or conflicts. It will show how the human experience is defined by psychological struggle (Tyson). In Toni Morrisons The Bluest Eye, the character Pecola Breedlove internalizes her discrimination due to her skin color and her family reputation. By the end of the novel, she is shunned by the community, and she has no choice but to be her own friend. Pecola is raped by her father, which causes her to personify her doubts in an attempt to obtain compliments for her blue eyes, as she subconsciously avoids rejection by her community. Regardless of whether it is subconscious or not, romantic and familial love seem to go hand in hand as people tend to seek qualities that may benefit a future family. It can be argued that the sensation felt by a large majority of the population, love, can be attributed to the selfish genes that inhabit the body. For the sake of argument, love can be described as the relationship between people and their concern for each other. Dawkins introduces processes like kin selection, mating strategies, and reciprocal altruismwhich may play a role in both romantic and familial love. To summarize these processes: kin selection is when an organism risks their own well being for a relative to increase the likelihood of genereplication, mating strategies describe the methods in which an organism uses to attract a mate, and reciprocal altruism is acting in a manner that temporarily reduces one s well being with the assumption that the apparent act of altruism will be reciprocated. Perhaps the most obvious example of kin selection is observed in familial relationships. Members of the family typically have a greater degree of care for each other in comparison to those unrelated. This love, or in this case, this concern for those related can be explained using the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Albert Camus states a very different opinion to the world within his novel The plague. In this novel Camus speaks about a small city called Oran. In this city the seasons rarely change and everyone settles for what they have and demonstrate almost a complete feeling of contentedness in their everyday lives. In the novelhe also shows that the saying you don t know what you have until it s gone, may ring true in many cases. Camus shows that people show the actions of contentedness in their ways and don t realize what they have until time has run out by explaining the functions of the people in Oran, showing... • 40. Biography of the Seventh Earl of Shaftesbury The Seventh Earl of Shaftesbury was pre eminently a figure of Victorian England, and therefore needs to be understood within the historical context of his times. This includes what is, perhaps, the most salient motivating factor in Shaftesbury s great accomplishments in social reform and philanthropy his religion. Christianityin Victorian England was, above all else, Christianity in crisis. Those with a shallow sense of history will generally point to the publication of Darwin s Origin of Species in 1859 as if that were enough to sum up the crisis of Christianity in this time period but in reality there were massive social changes taking place in England during this time. After all, it was before Darwin that the Victorian poet and social critic Matthew Arnold wrote his famous poetic complaint about the decline of belief in England, Dover Beach : The Sea of Faith Was once, too, at the full, and round earth s shore Lay like the folds of a bright girdle furl d. But now I only hear Its melancholy, long, withdrawing roar... (Arnold 214) In Shaftesbury s lifetime, Christianity s social message was particularly endangered. The Industrial Revolution had begun in the period immediately preceding the Victorian era, and continued with remorseless rapidity throughout the Victorian period: this had led to massive inequalities of wealth, combined with the total erosion of traditional ways of life in the rural period, causing the displaced poor to move to cities. The money saved from this plan would amount in the billions, which could then be used to repair the U.S. s damaged economy. However, Pickens idea, like every alternative oil plan, has its flaws. If Pickens Plan was implemented, the U.S. would not solely be affected; the world and its economy would be shaken. The supply and demand of oil would fluctuate dangerously, as would its prices. Since the U.S. is such a prominent oil buyer from as Corey Flintoff (2012) informs countries such as Canada, Africa, Latin America, and others, a sudden cease of demand would rock the world s economy. As of now, the U.S. demand of oil is at an equilibrium with the oil being supplied. If the U.S. demand of oil dropped dramatically, as Pickens Plan says it should, oil supplying countries would scramble to compensate for lost profits. In theory with the supply and demand model, the cost and supply of oil would skyrocket, while demand would be nonexistent. Since oil would be so costly, countries that purchase oil would be unable to afford it anymore, resulting in an even higher increase of prices and steeper decrease of consumers. With the loss of the U.S. as a consumer, the economies of these countries would suffer; this suffering would then spread worldwide, affecting everyone ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Imperfection Of Marriage In Middlemarch By George Eliot Imperfection of marriage in Middlemarch by George Eliot Introduction Middlemarch, A Study of Provincial Life is a novel by English author George Eliot, first published in eight instalments during 1871. The novel is set in the fictitious Midlands town of Middlemarch during 1829 32, and it comprises several distinct stories and a large cast of characters. Significant themes include the status of women, the nature of marriage, idealism, self interest, religion, hypocrisy, political reform, and education. Although containing comical elements, Middlemarch is a work of realism that refers to many historical events: the 1832 Reform Act, the beginnings of the railways, the death of King George IV, and the succession of his brother, the Duke of Clarence. In addition, the work incorporates contemporary medical science and examines the deeply reactionary mindset found within a settled community facing the prospect of unwelcome change. George Eliot began writing the two pieces that would eventually form Middlemarch during the years 1869 70 and completed the novel in 1871. Although the first reviews were mixed, it is now widely regarded as her best work and one of the greatest novels in English. Marriage At A Glance Marriage is one of the major themes in Middlemarch as, according to critic Francis George Steiner, both principle plots are case studies of unsuccessful marriage .Within this account is the suggestion that the lives of Dorothea and Lydgate are unfilled ... Through The Wexner Center to Analysis Deconstructionism 1.Deconstructionism Deconstructionism developed in late 1980s by postmodern architecture. The core theory is deconstruction that eliminates construction then forms it together in different way. The first time of deconstruction speak of was Jacques Derrida in 1920s, after that a lot of architect influenced by him, like Peter Eisenman who designed The Wexner Center in OSU. Deconstruction is the critical of stands on modernist orthodoxy principles. • 45. Essay about George Babbitt of Sinclair Lewis Babbitt George Babbitt: Image of a Presbyterian In Babbitt, Sinclair Lewis portrays religion as a corrupt business. In fact, he emphasizes this by focusing on his main character George Babbitt. George Babbitt is characterized as a businessman in Zenith. He is a man preoccupied about his reputation and his image before the main leaders of the town he lives in. Lewis creates a hypocritical figure for Babbitt through his reasons for being a Presbyterian. He says that if you were to question Babbitt about his religion he would say, My religion is to serve my fellow men, to honor my brother as myself, and to do my bit to make life happier for one and for all (199). Chum Frink and Mr.Eathorne accepted Babbitt because of his proposals for the Sunday School. He wanted to divide the school into four armies with militaristic characteristics. This would help the children feel as if they were doing something worthy. Secondly, he insisted on improvement of the advertising committee (Lewis 207). This goes to show you how businesslike the Sunday School was becoming. Babbitt was only thinking of business morals and forgetting the religious morals. Lewis also draws an image of George Babbitt s sanctimoniousness through his idea of Hell. We see Babbitt s hypocrisy when he says, if one was a Bad Man, that is, if he murdered or committed burglary or used cocaine or had mistresses or sold non existent real estate, he would be punished (199). Notice how everything Babbitt mentions at the time is something he has not done, however as he continues to live his life he eventually pulls a crooked real estate deal and begins to cheat on his wife, Myra. Babbitt s flirtatious character is seen when he dates several women and is careless because of his wife s absence. By hurting others for one s own gain, they become monsters rather than being men. One doesn t need to be evil to humans to be considered a monster. The treatment that the monsters receive in Edgar Rice Burroughs The Monster Men , perpetuates the theme that in this story men are the real monsters. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is a classic trope in all kinds of medias to portray the humans, or in this case von Horn, as the savior and the hero of the story. In the end of the story it is made clear that man is really the antagonist of the story and the force he is fighting, or Number 13, is the one suffering. ( Humans Are the Real Monster ). Despite Carl von Horn s previous actions, he was actually a monster who only wanted to steal the treasure and have Virginia to himself, even if she did not want to go with him. In some cases the antagonist does not realise that they are in fact the bad guy and believe that they are in the right. In The Monster Men, von Horn tells a lie to Number 13 that both von Horn and Number 13 wholeheartedly believed. All this was inspired by the principle which is quite true in itself that in the big lie there is always a certain force of credibility; because the broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily, and thus in the primitive simplicity of their minds they are more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large scale falsehoods. ( Adolf Hitler s words in German with English translation ). Number 13 falls for this big lie that von Horn tells because he doesn t particularly know about immoralities like lieing, so when von Horn tells him that Virginia, who has not met him at this point, is disgusted by him and his very existence he believes it. This big lie pulls at Number 13 s conscious throughout the story but against his better judgement he is able to ignore it and pursue his love for Virginia and eventually end up being with her as a happy married couple. • 47. Similarities Between Midaq Alley And The Yacoubian Building In the novels Midaq Alley and The Yacoubian Building, we are shown the ongoing, daily struggles of the working poor in both colonial and postcolonial Egypt. Both share central, overarching themes such as debauchery, desperation, and unstable political situations. The two settings are both examples of microcosms, cities within a city . Midaq Alley is a small, dead end neighborhood in 1940 s Cairothat consists of various shops and apartments. Within each of these buildings are characters that live completely separate lives but all have the same aspirations, to experience the world outside and the wealth it has. The Yacoubian Buildingis also set in Cairo during the turbulent 1990 s. Similarly, the characters were all tenants of a large apartment building, living in cramped and decrepit spaces. Promiscuity played a large role for multiple characters in both novels. Jealousy, infidelity, and homosexuality are all depicted openly and all have central parts in the separate stories. Midaq Alley introduced us to the character Hamida, an impoverished young woman who is desperate to find a partner who is financially stable. As she explored a relationship with Abbas, another prominent figure was also trying to flatter her. Knowing that she sought someone with money, Salim Alwan, an older, wealthy businessman with voracious sexual desires had an intense lust for Hamida. On the book, Silver expands this idea and notes that a fox know many things because it s likely to intensely question itself and gather information from a variety of sources. A hedgehog, on the other hand, will be more likely to rely on a single source of conventional wisdom. This idea encourage us to be resourceful like a fox, so we can be a more valuable contributor during the collaborative process. Collaboration is typically understood as a process in which multiple people provide input .However, collaboration can also be performed on an individual basis by collecting the information we need to shape to temper our projections and plans. Lesson number four is polls become more accurate the closer you get to the Election Day . This idea encourage us to continually update our forecast especially when we are approaching a decision point. The farther into the future you forecast, the less accurate your forecasts are likely to be. The closer you can update your forecasts to the point of decision, the more you improve your chances for accuracy. But, we need to notice if we wait too long to share our forecasts in order to ensure maximum accuracy, then we are defeating the purpose of the forecasting process.
