Average Long distance runner s bicep circ.

Before when I compared the ratios of this runner, I found that this runner will be a sprinter, but this
player is in the second standard deviation for the long distance runner and they are in the seventh
standard deviation for the sprinter. This runner s biceps are smaller for a sprinter because they
are in the first standard deviation for a long distance runner and they are in the third for a sprinter.
Also, this runner has smaller quads for a sprinter because they are in the third standard deviation
for a distance runner and in the fourth for a sprinter. So, basically this runner can be a sprinter
because they have the same ratios of a sprinter and plus if this runner goes to training and develops
muscles then could possibly come closer to the sprinters standard

Just Mercy By Bryan Stevenson
Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson has influenced me most. Bryan Stevenson is a public interest
lawyer and the founder of the Equal Justice Initiative. Throughout his career thus far, he has won
relief for dozens of condemned prisoners. The book reveals the astonishingly unjust criminal justice
system in the U.S. that perpetuates systemic racism and punishes those who suffer from poverty
and mental illness with the death penalty. Moreover, it also recounts how Stevenson navigated a
way to help the poor and the incarcerated find justice, healing and hope to rebuild their lives.
You don t change the world with the ideas in your mind, but with the conviction in your heart.
Bryan Stevenson, in an early chapter of the book, describes how in law school

Virtual Desktop Infrastructure ( Vdi )
Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) provides for the centralized administration, storage, and
provision of multiple computer systems via a centralized server which hosts compressed image
files of the operating systems as well as individual user desktops. The server that preforms this
function is called the hypervisor. In this way VDI functions as an infrastructure as a service (IaaS)
architecture that can seamlessly provide computerservice to a client which can be as bare bones as a
dummy terminal or hearty as a full powered desktop workstation. This capability of VDI technology
can alone revolutionize computing, allowing for only a few centralized powerful systems to
manage all of the computer infrastructure within an organization, providing service to inexpensive,
lightweight, and portable dummy terminals to complete an organization s computer infrastructure.
In addition to identifying the general mechanics of VDI, benefits and pitfalls of the technology,
certain legal implications, and varying opinions of the technology, another primary element of
research was qualifying the sustainability of VDI technology as well. The research question for the
purpose of the paper therefore was formulated Can it be qualified that VDI is a sustainable
technology? . If VDI was qualifiable as a sustainable technology, its further widespread
implementation could revolutionize computing, transforming it into a commodity service based
infrastructure, whereas if it were not qualifiable as

Red Meat Research Paper
Did you know that the meat you eat everyday can kill you? People consume meat everyday, and
don t know how it can affect their health. Research shows that red meat is increasing the chance of
eight major diseases. Those diseases include cancer, heart disease, respiratory disease, strokes,
diabetes, infections, kidney disease, and liver disease. Red meatis also full of nasty growth
hormones and cholesterol. The next type of meat that is causing long term health issues is
chicken. Chicken can cause a number of bacterial and viral related diseases and infections due to
pathogenic organisms they carry. Chicken can cause salmonellosis, avian flu, E. coli infection,
campylobacteriosis, and staphylococcus aureus infection. Like the red meat, chicken is full of
nasty growth hormones, which is terrible for you, it is full of cholesterol. The last type of meat I
will be talking about is pork. Pork also can cause many disease like salmonella, E. coli,
trichinellosis, listeriosis, staphylococcus aureus, and like read meat and chicken, the pig is injected

Informative Essay On Baroque Music
Baroque music was first constructed between 1600s through 1750. Baroque music originates in
Rome, and Italy, thought out time the music migrated across Europe. The word Baroque is Italian
for bizarre, which corresponds with the music because it is very lively and energetic. I choose the
baroque period because the musicis very interesting and one of a kind, that is not played anymore
in our time. There are many different parts that make up the BaroqueOpera, from composers to the
actual Opera itself. There were many composers during the baroque era that wrote operas, like
Claudio Monteverdi; an early Baroque composer. Monteverdi composed mostly sacred and secular
music, he created two styles of composition heritage Renaissance polyphony... Show more content

The first opera house was opened in Venice, 1673. Composers would preform their operas for the
wealthy in theaters that would not be available for the less fortunate, or be hired to perform in the
wealthy s homes. Baroque music was also very popular for the ability to dance to it. There are five
different dances that were created during the Baroque period. The first one is Gavotte , it is a
French dance in a moderately quick quadruple meter, this formed one of the movements in the
classical suite, usually following the saraband. Another Baroque dance is called Bourree , this
dance is similar to gavotte; bourree starts on a different beat giving the dance a different feel,
usually played at a moderate tempo. Passepied is also another dance made from the baroque era,
this dance is a fast paced dance usually played at a triple meter. Another dance is the Minuet ,
this dance is one of the best know dances. This dance can start on any beat, making it more
enjoyable to dance to due to multiple beats. The last dance is Rigaudon this dance is a French
dance similar to bourree, but has more of a rhythmic feel to it. During this period the church was
also a big part in of the Baroque era. The church also started to get involved into the opera and
instruments known as cantata. Singing in the church created a variety of voices known as soprano,
alto, and many more. There are many forms of singing for example there were, recitative, duets,
and arias that were sung in the church. All the voices singing in unison created a melody that would
allow others to sing along, creating a homophonic

Hoosier Burger Adrian Talavera INF 340 Business Systems Analysis Dr. Arman Kanooni
November 21, 2011 Hoosier Burger In order for an organization to remain successful, it must be
able to fulfill its day to day operations without mistakes. If these demands cannot be met, a new
project must be created in order to stay in business and ahead of the competition. If an
organization has a problem, they can benefit from fixing it by following a formal process for
identifying, selecting, initiating, and planning projects (Valacich, 2009). The system development

can be created to list costs associated with the project. Other methods include the time value of

Burger and if it will solve their new problems encountered by the high demand of their products.
Technical feasibility refers to the organization s ability to construct the proposed system (Valacich,

Schedule feasibility considers the likelihood of all potential time frames and completion dates can

They must also ensure construction or upgrading does not interfere with daily business operations
and negatively effect sales. Seasonal changes may have an impact

Separation Between Boys And Girls
The first thing a person notices upon walking into a store is all the different categories separated
by different aisles and giant signs hanging from the ceiling. The categories are then separated into
smaller, more specific sections. Like in the bathroom accessory aisles, there are different sections
in it that include the towels, curtains, and soap dispensers. Kid s clothes and toys are no different,
they are both separated into two different major categories which are boys and girls. This
separation between boys and girls does carry on throughout a person s life, and influences many
genderroles and biases. In the girls clothingsection, there many different items of clothing such as
sweaters, vests, dresses, leggings, jeans, sparkly plaid, and tunics. The patterns on these
different clothing items consists of sparkles, hearts, flowers, lace, fake fur, and animals. Most of
the clothing for girls consists of bright colors like, pinks, purple, aqua marine, gold, and silver.
Fabric that was mainly used for girls was cotton, polyester, spandex, and metallic. So, knowing
what kinds of clothes are available for girls to wear, it raises the question what do clothes teach
girls and being a girl? Since the clothing for girls is less practical use¬, and seems to be frillier
and light, this teaches them that they are supposed to be aware of their appearances at a young
age. When the clothing has Disney princesses on them it provides the child with and image of

The Problem of Dehydration Essay
In many ways, any living being is the product of water. The figures are relevant for this
assumption: the human body contains 60% water. A newborn has at birth 64% water in his
organism while the fetus in the third month of pregnancy has in his tissues, 91% water. As a man
ages he starts to dry: around the age of 70, the body contains 46% water. The body is composed of
25% solids and 75% liquid material in which the solvent is water. Furthermore, even the brain tissue
is composed of 85% water (Wedro, Conrad Stöppler, 2011). The role of water in ensuring the
health of the human body is essential. Without water, humans cannot live. Water metabolism

These ions can serve as a catalyst, accelerating reactions that normally would take much more
than a few seconds. (OH). Another important property of water is represented by its capacity to
dissipate heat through evaporation. This characteristic has an important role in the physiology of
thermo regulation. At high atmospheric temperatures, the body receives much more heat than it
needs. If this heat is not dissipated, the body will suffer. Fortunately, the human body has several
mechanisms to remove heat. One of them is based on the presence of water and it involves
changing water from its liquid to gaseous state with a heat loss (sweating). Thus, each gram of
water evaporated from the surface of the skin at room temperature, facilitates the loss of 580
calories. For these reasons, dehydration has become a major problem for many people and it can
lead to more serious diseases and even cause death if not be given the proper consideration. The
first signs of dehydration include feeling dizzy, rapid heartbeat, dry mouth, fatigue, and irritability.
Low water intake increases histamine, and when it crosses the nerves, pain occurs. Thus, pain
appears, costing one of the first signs of dehydration (Wedro, Conrad Stöppler, 2011). If no action
is taken, in time, various disorders can appear such as constipation, nausea, menstrual problems,
joint problems, high cholesterol, asthma, allergies, or dyspeptic syndromes. Dehydration can take
years or

The Social Hierarchy Of Jane Eyre By Charlotte Bronte
In Charlotte Bronte s novel, Jane Eyre, Bronte seemingly condemns the existing social hierarchy.
Not only are the characters who are most concerned with the allure of fortune and rank portrayed as
either deceitful or unethical, but even characters who ve accepted their means of poverty and
demonstrate honest moral natures are mocked. Rather than use the normal class structures, the
book suggests that a person of impoverished means can be viewed as socially respectable with the
condition that they maintain a sincere desire to better both oneself and their means of living.
The novel highlights the significance of class consciousness and how one particular class can
become subjective to the hands of the dogmatic elites. The derogative attitudes regarding social
class first occurs when Jane suffers horrible treatment from John Reed. He violently torments Jane
and constantly reminds her that she is an orphan and a dependent of the Reed family, forcing into
her mind that to be without a class is to be without worth. He imposes fear into Jane and reminding
her that he is the superior being.
You have no business to take our books; you are a dependent, mamma says; you have no money;
your father left you none; you ought to beg, and not to live here with gentlemen s children like
us, and eat the same meals we do, and wear clothes at our mamma s expense. Now, I ll teach you to
rummage my book shelves: for they are mine; all the house belongs to me, or will do in a few years.

Business Impact Analysis
This is an essential organization s business component that composes of a continuance plan for the
firm (Hiles, 2002). This plan includes planning components that aid in developing strategies for
mitigating risks, and an exploratory component to indicate and identify any vulnerability.
In this analysis account, the researcher is going to discuss and subsequently describe methods for
establishing components priorities by determining components dependencies and reliance in both
business continuity and disaster recovery.

Work Recovery Time (WRT) this is the second phase of MTD, it happens mostly on the third day of
MTD.
Recovery Time Objectives (RTO) this is the system recovery time, it is the available time to
recover disrupted resources and systems.
Recovery Point Objective (RPO) this is the extent or amount of data loss that a critical business
system can tolerate.
The above are the recovery time framework that will assist in calculating the time and form
through which a business will evolve before collapsing (Hiles, 2002).
To do a business impact analysis, the element of component dependency arises. Components
dependencies are the interdependency between the exploratory components and the planning
components. With the planning component, the organization will dwell much on the minimizing
and mitigating the risks that will lead to business disruption, while the exploratory component will
dwell so much on discovering and identification of vulnerable areas within the business. Their
dependency is as important as the two areas. For an organization to mitigate the risks, it should be
aware of the areas that are more vulnerable to risks, and if an organization identifiers the risk then
it will have to look for ways to reduce its occurrence or the impacts. Mostly the planning happens
after the exploratory component (Cardoza, 2006).

Theodore Roosevelt And The Roosevelt Center
Theodore Roosevelt during his life would spend time in North Dakota to hunt buffalo and settled
in a ranch there for some years as he found a renowned interest in the area he called his second
home . In 2005, Dickinson State University (DSU) began to explore the legacy of the 26th
President as a tribute to his historical legacy and admiration to the territory that the university
resides today. As a result the Theodore RooseveltCenter was founded in 2007 at the university. In
essence the Theodore Roosevelt Center was founded to manage Roosevelt s archives as like many
prior presidents, he did not have an established presidential library. Many of his papers were
scattered in archives around the country including the Library of Congress, Harvard University,
six national parks, and in smaller collections at numerous other repositories. In 2008, DSU began
a partnership with the Library of Congress to digitize the Library s vast holdings related to
Theodore Roosevelt, with the intent to make them freely available online. Its broad audience scope
is to attract everyone from scholars and schoolchildren, enthusiasts and interested citizens and to
provide well organized high quality reference material to enthusiastic seekers of our 16th president.
The physical library is expected to open in 2019 but is available online.

Energy Producing Hot Water For Cogeneration
The proposed project focuses on developing an electrical generation thermal system which
generates 5KW
power producing hot water for cogeneration. The Rankine cycle is used as the base system for the
design. The
solar energy is utilized in the project as a thermal source of heat to the system. The obtained heat
energy is
used to heat the system with overall system efficiency to be 60.4% and generate power of 5KW to
be used for
cogeneration and the waste heat recovered is stored in a battery which is utilized to produce hot
water even in
the absence of sunlight. The thermodynamic properties of the system were analyzed and calculated.
The
second law efficiency, irreversibility of the system components, maximum system efficiency and
the net work
done by the components of the system were majorly focused and calculated. The economic analysis
of the
system were performed by taking into account all the system components and found the system

Glaxosmithkline s Financial Performance
GlaxoSmithKline s Financial Performance.
GSK is the 2nd largest pharmaceutical firm in the world, and the largest in the UK by sales and
profits, it is responsible for 7% of the worlds pharmaceutical market, and has its stocks listed
both in UK and US (O Rourke, 2002). The origin of the so called blockbuster model, is partly
linked with Glaxo (as it was previously known). In the early 80 s, then Glaxo brought to light
their first blockbuster drug, Zantac, which was an anti ulcer drug, which was very similar to the
a pre existing drug Tagamet (first ever blockbuster) sold by Smith Kline French, their completion
at the time (MONTALBAN and SAKINÇ, 2011). The introduction of this drug, brought about an
increasing sales force in the US, the company soon became dependent on the drug, because it
represented a large part of their profit. In 2002, 8 blockbusters of GSK contributed to $14.240
million sales revenue, taking up 53% of its total ethical sales (Froud et al 2006). However, due to
the nature of the pharmaceutical industry, the patent began to expire, in other to avoid the patent
cliff, Glaxo merged with Wellcome in 1995, which ensured a growing number of sales force, and
with Beecham in 2000 (Froud et al., 2006) this merger, boosted the confidence of investors, by
growing the business inorganically. For Big Pharma, this block buster model is very profitable,
because with the high cost of R D, the drugs are able to generate ample profit, to cover the sunk

John Locke And Locke s Theory Of Personal Identity
A person is a thinking thing that has reason and reflection and thinks of itself as the same
thinking thing over time. John Locke, an English philosopher argued that what makes a person
able to identify themselves through time is continuity of one s memories and not the substance
of the body. Bernard Williams, another English philosopher criticized Locke s theory of
personal identity through his body switching experiment. William s argued that personal identity
is found on the body and continuity of one s memories isn t necessary for personal identity. I am
going to argue that personal identity is found on continuity of one s memories by presenting
Locke s view of personal identity, presenting William s criticism of Locke s theory through his
body switching experiments, and providing my own reasons on why personal identity can be
found on continuity of one s memories and not the substance of the body. John Locke argued
that people are able to identify themselves through time if they have continuity of memory.
According to Locke, personal identity is found on continuity of memory and not the substance of
either the soul or body.1 If humans were to lose their memory, it would be impossible to identify
themselves just based upon their bodies. Memory must be preserved in order to preserve your
personal identity.2 Locke, describes that all life forms in this universe are made up of atoms
called a mass of matter . As time goes on, life forms lose and gain matter as

Aquapentaamminecobalt Synthesis Lab Report
Introduction: The compound aquapentaamminecobalt(III) Nitrate, [Co(NH3)5OH2] NO3, is a
metal complex bonded to the molecule nitrate to attain a neutral charge. The synthesis of this
molecule is a more complex one, requiring the recrystallization of an intermediate species. When
the complex has been formed and isolated via filtration, the complex can be reacted with various
aqueous solutions, one being dimethyl sulfoxide, C2H6OS. When reacted these reagents form the
compound Co(NH3)5(OS(CH3)2)3+, H2O, and NO3 , though not inn this ratio. Specifically the
aquapentaamminecobalt(III) molecule can be used to study the sixth coordination site on the
molecule where the later is bound. Because of the weaker bond between the cobalt ionand the water

From this point in the lab, we could make no real predictions about the composition of the
products or the mechanisms of the reactions. This is also most likely the reason for such a low
yield and strange coloration. Other sources of error include poor transfer of the crude product
from filter paper to flask for recrystallization, as some of the product was lost in the transfer,
lessening the yield. Also, when the 0.75 mL of the 16 M nitric acid was added, the pH, instead of
becoming neutral, resulted in a pH of 1, in effect burning the product. This may also be a reason for
the color of the final product. In conclusion, this lab was a failure. Not only was the yield very
small upon inspection, but the product s composition was unknown due to the unknown solution.
Given the nature of the lab, little yield was expected and observed, making the lab itself very
particular in nature. Add to this the addition of the unknown solution and any produce was
astounding. Not only unfortunate, the unknown solution was very dangerous. If it had been some
solution that reacted violently with the reagents, there could have been unforeseen damage done to
the lab and the individuals

Exxon Valdez and the Recovery of Prince William Sound Essay
Exxon Valdez and the Recovery of Prince William Sound
Approximately eleven years ago, an area of Alaska s southern coast known as Prince William
Sound was a disaster area. A nauseating scent of rotting carcasses and oil filtered through the air.
Sea birds screamed in anguish as they fought to survive with oil drenched feathers. Under the
surface billions of organisms ceased to live due to the toxicity of the inescapable wrath of the
blackened water. Prince William Sound had once been a place of beauty and grace, now it was
home to an environmental deathbed. The media broadcast pictures of this nearly unbearable scene
throughout the world. Most people, including myself, wondered if the ecological war zone would

Massive cleanup efforts were initiated within a few weeks of the spill and they continued at
reduced levels for the next three years. Approximately 14% of the spilled oil was recovered by
cleanup crews (Newsweek, p.50). As a result of these efforts and natural weathering, little oil from
the spill remained in the affected area by 1992. However, according to the National Oceanic and
Atmosphere Administration some oil residues are still found under the ocean surface in areas
sheltered from wind and waves. Yet, these residues are highly weathered and the toxicity is
reduced to levels tolerable by organisms in the water (7). Nonetheless, the magnitude and timing of
the Exxon Valdez oil spillraised immediate concerns about possible effects on marine fish and
wildlife and prospects that these effects might be long lasting. Professors John Wiens and David
Page spent many years studying theses effects of the oil spill and they presented their findings at
the International Oil Spill Conference in Seattle, March 8 11, 1999. Their findings contain the
most recent results of the ongoing studies in Prince William Sound. Through extensive work with
three different groups of animals affected by the spill, they have exhibited a remarkable recovery
by the ecosystem of Prince William Sound (Wiens, Page et al.). The first species the scientists

Cognitive Dissonance Theory Of Smoking
Growing up I was never one for exercising let only eating healthy. Bad habits don t die easily and
soon enough as I got older they took their toll on my body. As grew not only vertically but
horizontally instead of changing my habits I only continued them. I merely changed the way I
looked at the problem by embracing the love for my naturally curves instead. Despite not only the
public looking down on hefty women but with the further disapproval of my family that the
dissonance began to weigh more. Things only progressively got worst when I was medically
diagnosed with mild obesity. It was only then that the cognitive dissonancemade me begin to
change my behavior. Cognitive dissonance theory explains the contradictions we have with our
behaviors and beliefs but it can also be used to get us to have positive behaviors.
Cognitive dissonance theory was created by Leon Festinger and to better explain his theory he
used the topic of smoking. He showed how the contradiction is so clear and uncomfortable that
something has to give either the use of cigarettes of the belief that smoking will [harm] (Griffin
et al., 2015, p.201). Cognitive dissonance in a nutshell is a contradiction that causes us stress. It
is when we act in ways that go against what we believe and the strong presence we have on the
matter the greater the stress we have. Festinger (2015) describe it the distressing mental state one
feels when one finds themselves doing things that don t fit with what we believe or what the public
approves of (p.200). An extreme example of this is the high one gets from taking drugs but the
disapproval the community might have for it. With dissonance creating a stressful mental state we
naturally want to avoid it by either change our behaviors or our beliefs.
Cognitive dissonance can have either positive effects or negative ones on a person s being. In the
Glatz, Stattin, Kerr study they considered the health and behavior of parents who find their youths
drinking. Generally underage drinking is looked down upon in the community and even in the eyes
of the law but studies have shown that parents reduce control and support in response to youths
drinking (Glatz, Stattin, Kerr, 2012, p. 629). Glatz et al

My American Dream Essay
The idea of the American Dream conveys a delight to anybody endeavoring to accomplish this
deception. For most of the population living in America, there is a feeling of working towards
being in a superior position than the present one they are in. The fantasy is distinctive for every
person, a few people dream brings energy towards themselves and their loved ones, as others
work for a superior living for a whole society. This is the thing that makes this idea so uncommon
and one of a kind, is that it doesn t bare down on only one objective, however extraordinary
objectives originating from every person. The road to success is not easy to navigate, but with
hard work, drive and passion, it s possible to achieve the American dream. (Tommy... Show more

something of themselves is often overseen by many. Nobody wants to leave their home, people
leave because of the necessities and their situation back home. That is their American Dream,
because they come to the United States in order to save themselves and their families back home. I
see Americans of every party, every background, every faith who believe that we are stronger
together: black, white, Latino, Asian, Native American; young, old; gay, straight; men, women,
folks with disabilities, all pledging allegiance under the same proud flag to this big, bold country
that we love. That s what I see. That s the America I know! (Barack Obama). Our disparities is the
thing that makes this country what it is, so by doing what it takes to make your American Dream
into a reality is the thing that makes you American. The feeling of triumph is an American
mentality, being better, improving the situation is the thing that most of the Americans live by.
There is no specific vision of an American. When you imagine an American you can t picture on
one race, sexual orientation, or and so on, we have the flexibility of acting naturally and having the
capacity to live with that thought. It is up to each individual to put that dream

Allusions In Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales
In the middle ages, society assumed that friars were always impeccable. Most friars expressed that
they served Christ with their preaching, blessing, and begging for gifts. Chaucer mocks the
assumption about religious figures by labeling religious figures in The Canterbury Tales as
hypocrites. In The Summoner s Tale of The Canterbury Tales
, Chaucer uses allusion, imagery, and
the archetypal theme of good vs. evil in order to depict the friar as a hypocritical religious dignitary.
Chaucer uses allusions to numerous Biblical figures, such as Satan and Christ Jesus. The friar,
while presenting his lecture, references countless individuals and stories from the Bible. He
does so in order to tell Thomas, the ill man, that his anger and spite have been the reasons he is
so frail. You lie here full of anger, full of ire, / With which the devil you re your heart afire, / And
chide this humble innocent your wife, / Who s been so meek and patient in her strife (1981 1985).

Chaucer uses a quote on line 2122 that says: He would like to see the friar on fire. That quote is
significant because Thomas irritation by the friar has been increasing. Another important
significance of the quote shows how the friar has the potential to be more devil like, full of ire.
The friar s potential becomes a reality when Thomas farted in the friar s hand. As ridiculous as it
sounds, the friar felt like the fart was the devil possessing him. He went forth on his way
consumed with ire (2158). Ire epitomized evil and the devil. The friar had become evil,
representing malevolence. The anger in him raging like a fire (2166). The anger continues,
showing how the friar s anger continued building up within. Chaucer was able to use archetypal
theme to ridicule the friar, and other religious figures of the time

highly effective way to show density differences in geographic distributions across a landscape,

Miller cylindrical map projection for my two variable thematic map for the following reason;
first being the map is due to the accuracy and clearly defined of local shapes. We are displaying
geographic data and it is important to have a projection that does not distort the area to effectively
map the data. Secondly the map avoids scale exaggeration, which is also important when mapping
geographic data within regions. One manipulation I had made to my map to improve the
communicative effectiveness of my map, was to only emphasize the borders of France to clearly
define the geographic area where the data is applicable. Advantages to using ArcGIS to map this
data was that it provides a great simplistic map to communicate the data to spatial regions, and the

Claris Explosion Vs Great Storm
Halifax Explosion VS Great Lakes Storm
Halifax Explosion
In December 1917, almost 100 years ago, a French cargo ship (SS Mont Blanc) filled with
explosives collided with a Norwegian ship (SS Imo). A fire started on the Norwegian ship, and
after 20 minutes the fire became uncontrollable, soon spreading to Mont Blanc, igniting the
explosives and causing a very large explosion. The blast killed approximately 2000 people,
injuring about 9000, and leaving over 25000 people with no shelter. The explosion took place on
December 6th in the Narrows, a strait connecting the upper Halifax Harbour to Bedford Basin. The
blast s effect was mostly in the Richmond district, but it affected other spots like Dartmouth and
the Tufts Cove area. The blast even shattered windows in Truro, 100 km away, and was heard in
Prince Edward Island. The blast later caused a tsunami devastating the Mi kmaq First Nations
people who had lived in the Tufts Cove area. People living in Halifax were not ready and not
equipped for such a disaster, there were almost no emergency or social services in place and
most were administered by civilians and private organizations. The municipal government helped
with relief but the most came from public and private volunteers. At the time of the explosion the
city mayor was away, all responsibilities were placed on Deputy Mayor Henry Colwell. There were
only very small police services and fire services available, the fire station captain was killed and the

I am comparing To His Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell (1640) and Sonnet 138 by William

uses 10 syllables per line. Another obvious similarity is that they both end with a couplet. They
both also tell a story. The differences in the poems are that To His Coy Mistress is arguing why

Douglas Jardine As A Villain In Cricket
Cricket is a game that creates spell of magic and enchantment in five day cricket or glitz

What Is The War Of The Roses
The Wars of the Roses were a series of battles fought in medieval England from 1455 to 1485
between the House of York and The House of Lancaster. The name of these battles was not given
until many years after it was finished. They were named by the badges of the fighting parties; the
white rose of York and the red rose of Lancaster. Both houses were descendants of King Edward
III so this might have been one of the main causes of this conflict. Also, many barons resented the
way that the Lancaster family had seized the throne in 1399 and felt that Henry V, IV or VI were
not the rightful kings. Henry Tudor arrived at Milford Haven on 7 August in an attempt to claim the
throne of England. He gathered supporters on his journey through Wales, and

of Transmembrane Potential by Microelectrodes Summary In all cell types, there is an electrical
potential difference exits between the inside and outside of the cell resulting from the differential
concentrations of sodium and potassium on either side of the membrane. This is termed the
membrane potential of the cell. While this phenomenon is present in all cells, it is especially
important in muscles and nerve cells, because changes in their membrane potentials are used to

Na+/K+ ATPase pump continuously three sodium ions to the outside for each two potassium ions
pumped to the inside of the membrane. The fact that more sodium ions are being pumped to the
outside than potassium to the inside causes continual loss of positive charges from inside the
membrane; this creates an additional degree of negativity on the inside beyond that which can be
accounted for by diffusion alone. Therefore, the net membrane potential with all these factors
operating at the same time is about в€’90 millivolts. In summary, the diffusion potentials alone
caused by potassium and sodium diffusion would give a membrane potential of about в€’86
millivolts, almost all of this being determined by potassium diffusion. Then, an additional в€’4
millivolts contribute to the membrane potential by the continuously acting electrogenic Na + /K +

The Theory Of Scientific Revolutions
In my essay I plan to argue that Thomas Kuhn was incorrect when he presented his theory that no
paradigm is better than any other paradigm and how he believed that people who occupy different
paradigms are in different universes, in his book The Structure of Scientific Revolutions. I believe
that there is no valid deductive or inductive support for incommensurability, there are examples
against it throughout the history of sciencethat do not exhibit the discontinuity and replacement of
paradigms, as Kuhn s incommensurability thesis predicts, but rather continuity and
supplementation. If this is correct, then there are no compelling epistemic reasons to believe that
Kuhn s incommensurability thesis is true or probable. The argument that the point of the same
kind terms changes or ceases from one theoretical context to another, it does not fundamentally
mean that these two abstract frameworks are taxonomically or methodologically
incommensurable. Kuhn s theory takes a relativist stance and uses it to make all theories and
paradigms equal with none being better than the other. This poses a major problem because the
hope of scientific research is best said as For a realist conception of scientific progress also wishes
to assert that, by and large, later science improves on earlier science, in particular by approaching
closer to the truth. This means that all realist scientist hope that by advancing our scientific

Richard III King Flaws
Shakespeare s plays that deal with historical accounts of kings often show the flaws that the
reigning king had. From King John to Henry VIII, Shakespeare paints an image of a king whose
flaws lead to their eventual downfall. Shakespeare s Richard II is no different, in that context,
from his other historical plays. He highlights the flaws of the reigning king while he highlights
the virtues of an individual that is below the king in terms of status. By highlighting the flaws of
the king, Shakespeare aims to dissolve the idea of a perfect king. An image that was prevalent in
that time period. The image of a perfect king was accepted in part because of the concept of ideal
kingship. A concept that Shakespeare challenges in Richard II. What separates... Show more content

Initially, Richard was able to exert his authority over his nation. Neither Mowbray nor
Bolingbroke questioned or challenged Richard when he banished them. However, as the play
progressed and Richard s tyrannical behavior increased, he was unable to exert his authority as a
king. Once Richard stole Bolingbroke s property, the public s opinion of him changed drastically.
They no longer viewed him as a competent ruler but as a person that harshly used their power.
When he needed the help and support from his nation and troops, the troops deserted him. The
troops possibly knew that Richard s behavior along with Bolingbroke encroaching on the territory
would certainly ensure defeat. If Richard had authority over the troops, they would have been more
loyal to the king for fear that he would have brought harm to them. Bolingbroke returning to
England showed that the authority that Richard once held had been greatly diminished.
Bolingbroke no longer feared any consequences that would come from him returning. If Richard
had exercised his authority properly, Bolingbroke would have not returned and would not have
deposed him. The fact that these events occurred shows that Richard was no longer in a position of
power, therefore, he could not act as the authoritative king he should have. The loss of his authority
showed that at that moment Richard was a king and at the same time not a king (Forker

History of Television Essays
History of Television
Television has become a major industry all over the world, especially in the industrialized nations,
and a major medium of communication and source of home entertainment. Television is used in
many industries. A few examples are for surveillance in places inaccessible to or dangerous for
human beings, in science for tissue microscopy, and in education. Today you can find a television
in almost every home. This is why I decided to research the history of the television.
The first television devices were based on an 1884 invention called the scanning disk, patented by
Paul Nipkow. This device was a large disk with holes on it, which spun in front of an object while a
photoelectric cell recorded ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An anode finger was a pencil sized tube with a small aperture at the top. Magnetic coils sprayed the
electrons emitted from the electrical image left to right and line by line onto the aperture, where
they became electric current. Both Zworykin s and Farnsworth s devices then transmitted the
current to a cathode ray tube, which recreated the image by scanning it onto a fluorescent surface.
Farnsworth applied for a patent for his image dissector in 1927. The development of the television
system was plagued by lack of money and by challenges Farnsworth s patent from the giant Radio
Corporation of America (RCA). In 1934, the British communications company, British Gaumont,
bought a license from Farnsworth to make systems based on his designs. In 1939, the American
company RCA did the same. Both companies had been developing television systems of their own
and recognized Farnsworth as a competitor. World War II interrupted the development of the
television. When television broadcasts became a regular occurrence after the war in 1945,
Farnsworth was not involved. Instead he decided to devote his time to trying to perfect the devices
he had designed.
David Sarnoff, Vice President of the Radio Corporation of America, later hired Vladimir Zworykin
to ensure that RCA would control television technology. Farnsworth s business manager ended up

The Battle Of A Death Sentence
The spectators watched as the Goddess and the newcomer engaged. Listened to the metallic ring
of weapons clashing, the sounds of destruction and felt the bloodlust that emanated from the two
rapidly grow stronger. It filled the air, made the hairs on their arms and the back of their necks
rise. Each clash sent waves of power rippling through the entire arena, created gusts of winds strong
enough to knock them down. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity and very likely more
dangerous than any war they d ever fought. Just staying to witness the clashwas tantamount to a
death sentence. However, it was too entrancing to walk away from. They were warriors who
served under the Goddess Nanaja, they worshiped the ground she walked on and would... Show

Adrenaline mixed with the bloodlust and it flooded her body creating a heady mix that sent
shivers coursing through her. She had found someone worth battling or rather he had found her,
her desire for the fight was immense and finally he d shown up. She felt as if she d been starved
and finally offered a taste of something that could fully satisfy her.
Yes. A true warrior had finally come. Her senses were alive and tingling with expectation of what
was to come.
She shifted her body in the air so that her feet were aimed at the stands instead of her head. She
saw him whirling a chain above himself, she knew what he intended to do but she wouldn t make
it that easy. She watched as he threw the chain straight at her, with the slightest shift of her body
she kept it from ramming into her and instead grabbed the chain with one of her hands. A second
later her feet hit the stands and her knees bent with the force. In that brief moment she yanked
hard on the chain causing him to jerk forward slightly giving her, her opening. Immediately
following that she pushed off from the stands and hurtled straight back at him. The force of it
caused the stands to crumble to pieces as another section of the arena was destroyed. She aimed
right for him and before he could recover she flipped her sword and rammed the pommel of her
blade hard into his abdomen and he fell back a few feet. Moving forward she brought her leg up
and kicked him square in the chest with

Performance Analysis Of Fso Communication System
Performance Analysis of FSO Communication System: Effects of Fog, Rain and Humidity
Abstract Free Space Optics (FSO) is one of the most promising new access technologies. FSO
provides the transmission of data with unlimited bandwidth. The atmospheric attenuation is caused
by two main factors absorption and scattering. This paper investigates a performance study of free
space optics channel for variable wavelengths 850 nm, 950 nm and 1550 nm at distance range of 1
km. The simulation reports minimum BER for NRZ OOK modulation technique at different
receiver diameters in presence of fog, rain and humidity attenuation. The results shows how to
improve the system to achieve minimum BER and maximize the power received that can be detect
at distance 1 km.
Keywords free space optics (FSO); fog; rain; humidity. Introduction
FSO communication, also termed as optical wireless, is an optical communication technology that
uses line of sight communication system and tries to achieve the need for high bandwidth over
short distances [1]. There are various atmospheric attenuation effects on FSO link such as fog, rain,
snow, humidity and temperature [2]. The majority of FSO systems are using 850 nm, 950 nm and
1550 nm [3 5] wavelengths. Research studies have shown that fog is the most important factor
because the size of fog particles is comparable to the transmission wavelength of optical and near
infrared wave [6].
This paper proposes model for the attenuation due to fog, rain,

Marketing Plan For The Whirlpool Corporation
The Whirlpool Corporation is a multinational corporation with its world headquarters located in
Benton Harbor, Michigan. Whirlpool manufacturers home appliances including Kitchen Aid,
Maytag, and Amana. First started in 1911, manufacturing electric hand wringers, it has grown into a
global world leader in home appliances manufacture.
Growth strategies
1.Internal growth This is growth from within the corporation using internal resources. This would
include focusing on new products or a new marketing plan. (Chand 2016)
a.Market penetration: Whirlpool saw a decrease in business by 2012 in the U.S. market but has
increased market penetration through efforts such as new products and renewed advertising. In
2014, from the Whirlpool ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 2002 Whirlpool purchased Amana, which manufactures ovens, refrigerators, dishwashers and air
conditioners. Amana had products with a mature growth cycle as did Whirlpool so this was a good
strategy to increase their product line and loyal customer base.
b.Horizontal related diversification is when a company adds products that are unrelated to its
current offerings. Whirlpool purchased Kitchen Aid in 1986, which manufactured stand mixers,
among other products. This was not something Whirlpool was familiar with but using the celebrity
chef popularity at the time, promoted Kitchen Aid heavily and markedly increased their customer
base. (History Heritage)
c.Conglomerate unrelated diversification is growth strategy that involves adding new products or
services that are significantly different from the organization s present products or services. This
happens when the company diversifies into an area that is completely dissimilar to the current line
of business. Whirlpool currently offers licensing upon approval to any products. Products they
license now include water softeners, water coolers, upright vacuums and outdoor grills. These
products, when sold with the Whirlpool name behind them, increases brand name awareness as well
as loyal customers. (Brand Licensing 2016)
d.Vertical integration is when a company performs more than one or two parts in their supply chain
within the same company. Whirlpool s

What Is A Spiritual Journey Essay
My faith has always been a question mark, and even now, writing about it worries me. A
generalized sense of my faith could be summed up as doing what I think and feel to be right. To
address my spiritual journey, I think I should start from the beginning.
I grew up in Shipshewana, a small town up north in Indiana. We lived in an insignificant
neighborhood, with a church at the end of the street. I only lived there until I was about 5 years
old, but I can recall many memories of growing up. My family never attended church together and
the most religious thing I can remember doing cohesively is visiting a nativity scene during
Christmas in town and I do not even believe we stayed for the entire thing. I was taught to believe
in God, and to accept all as my brothers and sisters. I used to be giddy over the idea that my friends
were also my brothers and sisters. The idea of faith was present but never addressed. I used to
journey down the road of my neighborhood by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My faith and mental physical health started to become very important to me. I began to run, and
started mapping out the parks in Fort Wayne that I had ran. I started reading scripture every day,
and taking sacred time at USF seriously. I practiced mindfulness, and tried new things. This year
so far has been one filled with self discovery.
I know now what God means to me. I might not attend church every Sunday, but I invest time to
practice my faith. I see the holy spirit in acts of love all around me, and he is constantly in my
life. I try to dwell on the rules the bible has set. I think the gut feeling is a significant feeling that is
guided by God s hand. Even the small things like picking up apiece of trash, or apologizing when it
is difficult. He is in all the beauty of nature that I experience on my runs, or in all the good news I
hear. He is in the face of the people I love, and is the wheels to my vehicle to future

Literary Analysis and Comp. II
Mrs. Mikowski
Supernovae
A supernova is a stellar explosion that occurs at the end of a star s lifetime. It is one of the largest
and most energetic explosions in space (S1). A supernova can briefly outshine an entire galaxyand
radiate more energy than our sun will in its lifetime. That is about same brightness of 10 million
suns (S2). Supernovae happen about every 50 years in a galaxy about the size of the Milky Way,
which could be about every second in our universe (S3). Supernovae can happen in two ways
depending on the mass of the star; Type I or Type II.
A Type I supernova happens when the star steals matter from a neighbor until a nuclear reaction
ignites. Type I supernovae are generally thought to come from white dwarf stars only in binary
star systems (S1). A white dwarf star is what stars like our sun become after they have used up
their nuclear fuel. As the gas of the neighboring star grows onto the white dwarf, the white dwarf is
progressively and constantly compressed, and after a while, sets off a nuclear reaction inside the
star that eventually leads to an energetic supernova outburst (S3). ... Show more content on

Like our sun, it will eventually run out of hydrogen and helium fuel at the star s core. However,
it will have enough mass and pressure to fuse carbon (S2). Next, over time, heavier elements
build up at the center and it becomes layered like an onion (S2). The elements will become lighter
and move towards the outside of the star. The core will heat up and become dense. The core will
become extremely heavy; so heavy that its gravitational force will not be able withstand it; causing
it to explode. The explosion spews out stellar material throughout space

Another Boring Assembly Was In The Making As I Walked Into
Another boring assembly was in the making as I walked into my junior high school gymnasium.
My best friend at the time, Kelsey, was very excited because the Valencia high school color
guard was going to perform one of their routines in an attempt to get people to join the team. She
was already on the guard, hence her motivation to attend this assembly. Before this point, I did
not know color guard even existed. According to Kelsey, color guard is a performing art in which
a team performs a dance routine centered around the use of flags, rifles, and sabers. Both her
insistence and the awe inspiring performance of the guard moved me to join the team my freshman
year of high school. Even though we did not win at championships, it was overall... Show more

In the end, we did not get into the top tier and did not win any awards that year. The head
instructors even chose to not criticize me for my drastic mistake, for they all knew it was all
over and I was in a dismal state of mind anyway. From that championship on, I had to work
especially hard to reclaim the trust of my instructors. Looking back, I can see now how hard it is
to get someone s trust back once it is lost. I practiced relentlessly throughout high school and was
the best person on the saber line. Or I would have been the best, but I could never be consistent,
which is one of the most important skills to have in color guard. I would throw my saber and
catch a difficult toss ten times in a row perfectly, then the next day drop it three times. Due to the
inconsistency, as well as my history of crumbling under pressure, my instructors would not
allow me another solo toss on my color guard team again. My experience has left a scar in my
mind, to which I owe my persistence to not make promises I cannot keep. The best way to keep
someone s trust is to not break your promises to them. I inadvertently made a promise to my
instructors that they could trust me to catch my toss in our show when all focus is centered on me.
I let them down, therefore I was left to deal with the consequences. Due to my hard work, I
eventually came to prove to my instructors that I could toss beautiful tosses, but

Role of Intelligence in India’s Security
RN KAO MEMORIAL LECTURE BY SHRI NARESH CHANDRA
India s Security Challenges in the next decade Role of Intelligence
I feel greatly honoured and privileged to have been asked to deliver the R. N. Kao Memorial
Lecture this year. I believe, it is the sixth in the series started in 2007 by Shri Tharakan, the then
Secretary, R amp;AW . It feels good to be following the five distinguished speakers who have
delivered the lecture in previous years.
Before this distinguished gathering, it is hardly necessary to enumerate the achievements of Shri

Proper intelligence input is essential to taking informed decisions on issues of national security.
Intelligence agencies are important arms of the State for meeting external challenges and for the
proper management of internal security.
In brief, our national security objectives are: (i) preservation of territorial and maritime integrity of
the country; (ii) having friendly relations with all countries; (iii) providing for sustained economic
and social development accessible to all; (iv) creating credible capacities to meet conventional and
non conventional threats and challenges emerging from space and cyber space; and (v) nurturing
the values of secularism and democracy. These objectives set the agenda for our policies and
programmes and bring out the challenges that we face in the future for the successful prosecution
of these objectives.
To consider the security environment in which we have to fashion our policies, we find that the
global strategic context is changing rapidly, driven by the speed of technology development,
realignment of forces with the recent decline in the markets of the West along with emerging
economic strength and rise of China and India. Many see in this a strategic shift from the West to
the East, but one has to be realistic and not assume that this shift is going to indefinitely endure.

March Madness is one of my favorite times of year! It would be an honor to cover March Madness!
Where are you from? Can you cover the Euroleague, International Leagues, and other foreign
basketball activities frequently?
I m from Connecticut, and I don t normally watch International leagues (except for the olympics),
so this could be a challenge.
Do you show bias towards playoff bound teams? Meaning can you cover low class teams such as
the Charlotte Bobcats?
Well like I said, I m a huge Heat fan and I love to debate so I wouldn t turn my back against them.
But, I can cover low class teams. In fact, I think the Bobcats have a lot of raw young talent. They
have Kemba, DJ Augustin, Tyrus Thomas, Gerald Henderson, etc. I think these fresh legs brings
for an up tempo fun to watch game, so I definitely think I can cover low class teams.
Name any and all things we should know about you.
Well I play basketball, I work at a basketball camp, I ve won many awards, I know lots of fun facts,

Cleft Lip Research Paper
Oral Clefts Leslie Adams West Coast University Abstract A lack of fusion from the nasal and
maxillary processes that form the upper lip is considered to a cleft lip (Damjanov, 2012). Cleft
lip can be from air pollution, nitrate intake from water, prenatal smoking, diabetes, and
medications. Trisomy 13 and 18, Van der Woude syndrome, Velocardiofacial syndrome and
Median facial dysplasia are common syndromes that cleft lip is associated with (Venkatesh
2009). An increase of O3 can possibly cause birth defects, if women were exposed to much to O3
during the first and second months of pregnancy (Hwang, 2008, p. 1415). An increase of nitrates
from water may also help cause a cleft lip (Brender, 2013). Cleft lip is considered to... Show more

This study was taken from an estimation of nitrate consumption, 3,300 cases had a defect while
1,121 were controlled cases without a defect (Brender, 2013, p. 1083). Previous associations
observed between birth defects and nitrates in drinking water were often observed at levels
below the current allowable maximum contaminant level for nitrate set by the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency (Brender, 2013, 1083). Brender states, when nitrates are
ingested twenty five percent of nitrates are secreted in saliva, which increases the risk in the
first trimester with mothers that are not in the control group for cleft lip (2013, p. 1083). A
significant linear trend was observed for only cleft lip in relation to measure nitrates in drinking
water among offspring of women who reported drinking municipal water (Brender , 2013, p.
1086). It is a high possibility that the more nitrate intake women get the higher of a risk it is for a

This runner s biceps are smaller for a sprinter because they are in the first standard deviation for a long distance runner and they are in the third for a sprinter. Also, this runner has smaller quads for a sprinter because they are in the third standard deviation for a distance runner and in the fourth for a sprinter. • 4. Just Mercy By Bryan Stevenson Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson has influenced me most. Bryan Stevenson is a public interest lawyer and the founder of the Equal Justice Initiative. Throughout his career thus far, he has won relief for dozens of condemned prisoners. The book reveals the astonishingly unjust criminal justice system in the U.S. that perpetuates systemic racism and punishes those who suffer from poverty and mental illness with the death penalty. Moreover, it also recounts how Stevenson navigated a way to help the poor and the incarcerated find justice, healing and hope to rebuild their lives. You don t change the world with the ideas in your mind, but with the conviction in your heart. Bryan Stevenson, in an early chapter of the book, describes how in law school ... Virtual Desktop Infrastructure ( Vdi ) Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) provides for the centralized administration, storage, and provision of multiple computer systems via a centralized server which hosts compressed image files of the operating systems as well as individual user desktops. The server that preforms this function is called the hypervisor. In this way VDI functions as an infrastructure as a service (IaaS) architecture that can seamlessly provide computerservice to a client which can be as bare bones as a dummy terminal or hearty as a full powered desktop workstation. This capability of VDI technology can alone revolutionize computing, allowing for only a few centralized powerful systems to manage all of the computer infrastructure within an organization, providing service to inexpensive, lightweight, and portable dummy terminals to complete an organization s computer infrastructure. In addition to identifying the general mechanics of VDI, benefits and pitfalls of the technology, certain legal implications, and varying opinions of the technology, another primary element of research was qualifying the sustainability of VDI technology as well. The research question for the purpose of the paper therefore was formulated Can it be qualified that VDI is a sustainable technology? . If VDI was qualifiable as a sustainable technology, its further widespread implementation could revolutionize computing, transforming it into a commodity service based infrastructure, whereas if it were not qualifiable as ... Baroque music originates in Rome, and Italy, thought out time the music migrated across Europe. The word Baroque is Italian for bizarre, which corresponds with the music because it is very lively and energetic. I choose the baroque period because the musicis very interesting and one of a kind, that is not played anymore in our time. There are many different parts that make up the BaroqueOpera, from composers to the actual Opera itself. The first opera house was opened in Venice, 1673. Composers would preform their operas for the wealthy in theaters that would not be available for the less fortunate, or be hired to perform in the wealthy s homes. Baroque music was also very popular for the ability to dance to it. There are five different dances that were created during the Baroque period. The first one is Gavotte , it is a French dance in a moderately quick quadruple meter, this formed one of the movements in the classical suite, usually following the saraband. Another Baroque dance is called Bourree , this dance is similar to gavotte; bourree starts on a different beat giving the dance a different feel, usually played at a moderate tempo. Passepied is also another dance made from the baroque era, this dance is a fast paced dance usually played at a triple meter. Another dance is the Minuet , this dance is one of the best know dances. This dance can start on any beat, making it more enjoyable to dance to due to multiple beats. The last dance is Rigaudon this dance is a French dance similar to bourree, but has more of a rhythmic feel to it. During this period the church was also a big part in of the Baroque era. The church also started to get involved into the opera and instruments known as cantata. Singing in the church created a variety of voices known as soprano, alto, and many more. There are many forms of singing for example there were, recitative, duets, and arias that were sung in the church. All the voices singing in unison created a melody that would allow others to sing along, creating a homophonic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Separation Between Boys And Girls The first thing a person notices upon walking into a store is all the different categories separated by different aisles and giant signs hanging from the ceiling. The categories are then separated into smaller, more specific sections. Like in the bathroom accessory aisles, there are different sections in it that include the towels, curtains, and soap dispensers. Kid s clothes and toys are no different, they are both separated into two different major categories which are boys and girls. This separation between boys and girls does carry on throughout a person s life, and influences many genderroles and biases. In the girls clothingsection, there many different items of clothing such as sweaters, vests, dresses, leggings, jeans, sparkly plaid, and tunics. The patterns on these different clothing items consists of sparkles, hearts, flowers, lace, fake fur, and animals. Most of the clothing for girls consists of bright colors like, pinks, purple, aqua marine, gold, and silver. Fabric that was mainly used for girls was cotton, polyester, spandex, and metallic. So, knowing what kinds of clothes are available for girls to wear, it raises the question what do clothes teach girls and being a girl? Since the clothing for girls is less practical useВ¬, and seems to be frillier and light, this teaches them that they are supposed to be aware of their appearances at a young age. • 11. The Problem of Dehydration Essay In many ways, any living being is the product of water. The figures are relevant for this assumption: the human body contains 60% water. A newborn has at birth 64% water in his organism while the fetus in the third month of pregnancy has in his tissues, 91% water. As a man ages he starts to dry: around the age of 70, the body contains 46% water. The body is composed of 25% solids and 75% liquid material in which the solvent is water. Furthermore, even the brain tissue is composed of 85% water (Wedro, Conrad StГ¶ppler, 2011). The role of water in ensuring the health of the human body is essential. These ions can serve as a catalyst, accelerating reactions that normally would take much more than a few seconds. (OH). Another important property of water is represented by its capacity to dissipate heat through evaporation. This characteristic has an important role in the physiology of thermo regulation. At high atmospheric temperatures, the body receives much more heat than it needs. If this heat is not dissipated, the body will suffer. Fortunately, the human body has several mechanisms to remove heat. One of them is based on the presence of water and it involves changing water from its liquid to gaseous state with a heat loss (sweating). Thus, each gram of water evaporated from the surface of the skin at room temperature, facilitates the loss of 580 calories. For these reasons, dehydration has become a major problem for many people and it can lead to more serious diseases and even cause death if not be given the proper consideration. The first signs of dehydration include feeling dizzy, rapid heartbeat, dry mouth, fatigue, and irritability. Low water intake increases histamine, and when it crosses the nerves, pain occurs. Thus, pain appears, costing one of the first signs of dehydration (Wedro, Conrad StГ¶ppler, 2011). If no action is taken, in time, various disorders can appear such as constipation, nausea, menstrual problems, joint problems, high cholesterol, asthma, allergies, or dyspeptic syndromes. • 12. The Social Hierarchy Of Jane Eyre By Charlotte Bronte In Charlotte Bronte s novel, Jane Eyre, Bronte seemingly condemns the existing social hierarchy. Not only are the characters who are most concerned with the allure of fortune and rank portrayed as either deceitful or unethical, but even characters who ve accepted their means of poverty and demonstrate honest moral natures are mocked. Rather than use the normal class structures, the book suggests that a person of impoverished means can be viewed as socially respectable with the condition that they maintain a sincere desire to better both oneself and their means of living. The novel highlights the significance of class consciousness and how one particular class can become subjective to the hands of the dogmatic elites. The derogative attitudes regarding social class first occurs when Jane suffers horrible treatment from John Reed. He violently torments Jane and constantly reminds her that she is an orphan and a dependent of the Reed family, forcing into her mind that to be without a class is to be without worth. He imposes fear into Jane and reminding her that he is the superior being. You have no business to take our books; you are a dependent, mamma says; you have no money; your father left you none; you ought to beg, and not to live here with gentlemen s children like us, and eat the same meals we do, and wear clothes at our mamma s expense. With the planning component, the organization will dwell much on the minimizing and mitigating the risks that will lead to business disruption, while the exploratory component will dwell so much on discovering and identification of vulnerable areas within the business. Their dependency is as important as the two areas. For an organization to mitigate the risks, it should be aware of the areas that are more vulnerable to risks, and if an organization identifiers the risk then it will have to look for ways to reduce its occurrence or the impacts. The Rankine cycle is used as the base system for the design. The solar energy is utilized in the project as a thermal source of heat to the system. The obtained heat energy is used to heat the system with overall system efficiency to be 60.4% and generate power of 5KW to be used for cogeneration and the waste heat recovered is stored in a battery which is utilized to produce hot water even in the absence of sunlight. The thermodynamic properties of the system were analyzed and calculated. The second law efficiency, irreversibility of the system components, maximum system efficiency and the net work done by the components of the system were majorly focused and calculated. The economic analysis of the system were performed by taking into account all the system components and found the system design to be more economical for small scale applications. Bernard Williams, another English philosopher criticized Locke s theory of personal identity through his body switching experiment. William s argued that personal identity is found on the body and continuity of one s memories isn t necessary for personal identity. I am going to argue that personal identity is found on continuity of one s memories by presenting Locke s view of personal identity, presenting William s criticism of Locke s theory through his body switching experiments, and providing my own reasons on why personal identity can be found on continuity of one s memories and not the substance of the body. John Locke argued that people are able to identify themselves through time if they have continuity of memory. According to Locke, personal identity is found on continuity of memory and not the substance of either the soul or body.1 If humans were to lose their memory, it would be impossible to identify themselves just based upon their bodies. When the complex has been formed and isolated via filtration, the complex can be reacted with various aqueous solutions, one being dimethyl sulfoxide, C2H6OS. When reacted these reagents form the compound Co(NH3)5(OS(CH3)2)3+, H2O, and NO3 , though not inn this ratio. From this point in the lab, we could make no real predictions about the composition of the products or the mechanisms of the reactions. This is also most likely the reason for such a low yield and strange coloration. Other sources of error include poor transfer of the crude product from filter paper to flask for recrystallization, as some of the product was lost in the transfer, lessening the yield. Also, when the 0.75 mL of the 16 M nitric acid was added, the pH, instead of becoming neutral, resulted in a pH of 1, in effect burning the product. This may also be a reason for the color of the final product. In conclusion, this lab was a failure. Not only was the yield very small upon inspection, but the product s composition was unknown due to the unknown solution. Approximately 14% of the spilled oil was recovered by cleanup crews (Newsweek, p.50). However, according to the National Oceanic and Atmosphere Administration some oil residues are still found under the ocean surface in areas sheltered from wind and waves. Yet, these residues are highly weathered and the toxicity is reduced to levels tolerable by organisms in the water (7). Bad habits don t die easily and soon enough as I got older they took their toll on my body. As grew not only vertically but horizontally instead of changing my habits I only continued them. I merely changed the way I looked at the problem by embracing the love for my naturally curves instead. Despite not only the public looking down on hefty women but with the further disapproval of my family that the dissonance began to weigh more. Things only progressively got worst when I was medically diagnosed with mild obesity. It was only then that the cognitive dissonancemade me begin to change my behavior. Cognitive dissonance theory explains the contradictions we have with our behaviors and beliefs but it can also be used to get us to have positive behaviors. Cognitive dissonance theory was created by Leon Festinger and to better explain his theory he used the topic of smoking. He showed how the contradiction is so clear and uncomfortable that something has to give either the use of cigarettes of the belief that smoking will [harm] (Griffin et al., 2015, p.201). Cognitive dissonance in a nutshell is a contradiction that causes us stress. It is when we act in ways that go against what we believe and the strong presence we have on the matter the greater the stress we have. Festinger (2015) describe it the distressing mental state one feels when one finds themselves doing things that don t fit with what we believe or what the public approves of (p.200). An extreme example of this is the high one gets from taking drugs but the disapproval the community might have for it. With dissonance creating a stressful mental state we naturally want to avoid it by either change our behaviors or our beliefs. Cognitive dissonance can have either positive effects or negative ones on a person s being. In the Glatz, Stattin, Kerr study they considered the health and behavior of parents who find their youths drinking. Generally underage drinking is looked down upon in the community and even in the eyes of the law but studies have shown that parents reduce control and support in response to youths drinking (Glatz, Stattin, Kerr, 2012, p. 629). Rob Reiner strategically placed Chris within the friend circle of Stand By Me in order to represent the glue and head of the collective ranking, a father figure, and an overall Paladin. These concepts are relevant to both real and fictional entertainment settings. Groups utilize effective communication methods as a means to gain a personal social staple. The director provides these ideas through specific script writing, blocking, and music. Fabricated characters must create a hierarchal status to establish a functional structure. This is an inevitable and natural process, but serves as a critical aspect of achievement as a collective group. Daniel A. McFarland, Sociology and Education professor at Standford University, writes Adolescents secure status by employing interactional strategies such as gossip and teasing or by adopting adult like behavior. Rob Reiner sets this up through the film to represent societal concepts in a variety of ways. Several examples are illuminated through Chris s character. Enterprise Data Analysis And Visualization Enterprise Data Analysis and Visualization: An Interview Study ABSTRACT Organizations rely on data analysts to model customer engagement, streamline operations, improve production, inform business decisions, and combat fraud. Numerous analysis and visualization advanced tools available for analysts to work, but there are little research goes on how analysis happens in companies. To better understand the enterprise analysts ecosystem, we conducted semi structured interviews with 35 data analysts from 25 organizations. Based on our interview data, we characterize the process of industrial data analysis and document how organizational features of an enterprise impact it. We describe recurring pain points, outstanding challenges, and barriers to adoption for visual analytic tools. INTRODUCTION: The researchers conducted semi structured interviews with 35 analysts from various sectors. They asked analysts to walk them through the typical tasks they perform, the tools analysts use, the challenges they encounter, and the organizational context in which analysis takes place. In this paper, we present the results and analysis of these interviews. The respondents are well described by three archetypes. We find that these archetypes vary widely in programming proficiency, reliance on Information technology (IT) staff and diversity of tasks, and vary less in statistical proficiency. We describe how collaboration takes place between analysts. We find that analysts seldom share ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Physiology of Membrane Potential 2.1 Understanding Membrane Potential 2.2 How to Calculate Membrane Potential 3. Transmembrane Potential 3.1 Measurement of Transmembrane Potential by Microelectrodes Summary In all cell types, there is an electrical potential difference exits between the inside and outside of the cell resulting from the differential concentrations of sodium and potassium on either side of the membrane. This is termed the membrane potential of the cell. While this phenomenon is present in all cells, it is especially important in muscles and nerve cells, because changes in their membrane potentials are used to code and transmit information or signals. More specifically, the action potentials are electrical signals; these signals carry efferent messages to the central nervous system for processing and afferent messages away from the brain to elicit a specific... The fact that more sodium ions are being pumped to the outside than potassium to the inside causes continual loss of positive charges from inside the membrane; this creates an additional degree of negativity on the inside beyond that which can be accounted for by diffusion alone. Therefore, the net membrane potential with all these factors operating at the same time is about в€’90 millivolts. In summary, the diffusion potentials alone caused by potassium and sodium diffusion would give a membrane potential of about в€’86 millivolts, almost all of this being determined by potassium diffusion. The Theory Of Scientific Revolutions In my essay I plan to argue that Thomas Kuhn was incorrect when he presented his theory that no paradigm is better than any other paradigm and how he believed that people who occupy different paradigms are in different universes, in his book The Structure of Scientific Revolutions. I believe that there is no valid deductive or inductive support for incommensurability, there are examples against it throughout the history of sciencethat do not exhibit the discontinuity and replacement of paradigms, as Kuhn s incommensurability thesis predicts, but rather continuity and supplementation. If this is correct, then there are no compelling epistemic reasons to believe that Kuhn s incommensurability thesis is true or probable. The argument that the point of the same kind terms changes or ceases from one theoretical context to another, it does not fundamentally mean that these two abstract frameworks are taxonomically or methodologically incommensurable. Kuhn s theory takes a relativist stance and uses it to make all theories and paradigms equal with none being better than the other. This poses a major problem because the hope of scientific research is best said as For a realist conception of scientific progress also wishes to assert that, by and large, later science improves on earlier science, in particular by approaching closer to the truth. From King John to Henry VIII, Shakespeare paints an image of a king whose flaws lead to their eventual downfall. Shakespeare s Richard II is no different, in that context, from his other historical plays. He highlights the flaws of the reigning king while he highlights the virtues of an individual that is below the king in terms of status. By highlighting the flaws of the king, Shakespeare aims to dissolve the idea of a perfect king. An image that was prevalent in that time period. The image of a perfect king was accepted in part because of the concept of ideal kingship. A concept that Shakespeare challenges in Richard II. What separates... However, as the play progressed and Richard s tyrannical behavior increased, he was unable to exert his authority as a king. Once Richard stole Bolingbroke s property, the public s opinion of him changed drastically. They no longer viewed him as a competent ruler but as a person that harshly used their power. When he needed the help and support from his nation and troops, the troops deserted him. The troops possibly knew that Richard s behavior along with Bolingbroke encroaching on the territory would certainly ensure defeat. If Richard had authority over the troops, they would have been more loyal to the king for fear that he would have brought harm to them. Bolingbroke returning to England showed that the authority that Richard once held had been greatly diminished. Bolingbroke no longer feared any consequences that would come from him returning. If Richard had exercised his authority properly, Bolingbroke would have not returned and would not have deposed him. The fact that these events occurred shows that Richard was no longer in a position of power, therefore, he could not act as the authoritative king he should have. It is one of the largest and most energetic explosions in space (S1). A supernova can briefly outshine an entire galaxyand radiate more energy than our sun will in its lifetime. That is about same brightness of 10 million suns (S2). Supernovae happen about every 50 years in a galaxy about the size of the Milky Way, which could be about every second in our universe (S3). Supernovae can happen in two ways depending on the mass of the star; Type I or Type II. A Type I supernova happens when the star steals matter from a neighbor until a nuclear reaction ignites. Type I supernovae are generally thought to come from white dwarf stars only in binary star systems (S1). A white dwarf star is what stars like our sun become after they have used up their nuclear fuel.
