Four Leadership Theories
Introduction
I have just been appointed to organise a small team in a large corporate organisation. As I am new
to this role I have been provided with the assistance of a mentor.
TASK 1
In the first meeting I realised that to have a useful discussion with the mentor I should study the
concepts and theories related to management and leadership so I can properly make the notes that
would help in proper discussion with the mentor. For this reason I studied different articles and
make notes that consist of:
AN ANALYSIS OF THE CONCEPTS OF LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT
In this report I will discuss the four leadership theories that include leader member exchange
theory, path goal theory, transactional transformational theory and the full range leadership
theory. (UK essays. November 2013) we start the report by discussing the leader member
exchange theory. Leader Member Exchange Theory, also called LMX or Vertical Dyad Linkage
Theory, explains how leaders in groups maintain their position through a series of tacit exchange
agreements with their members . In this theory there are 3 qualities of the leader follower
collaborations were analyzed by the LMX such as locus of control, need for power, and self
esteem. The extent to which a person has control over his life and environment is locus of control.
A person who think they are responsible for all their activities are the persons with the internal
locus of control. These people are usually the people who show more satisfaction

to meet the new family she will be with. Colonel Arbuthnot is an English colonel for the Army
of England. Mrs. Hubbard is an American matron who won t stop talking, especially about her
daughter. She seems to be a daydreamer and a drama queen. M. Ratchett is a man who does not

The Global Distribution of Economic Activity Cuased by...
Globalization is currently a very hot topic and many people have an awful lot to say about the
matter, creating different theories and points of view. A definition of globalization could be, The
straightforward exchange between core and peripheral areas based upon a broad division of labour,
is being transformed into a highly complex, kaleidoscopic structure involving the fragmentation of
many production processes and their geographical relocation on a global scale in ways which slice
through national boundaries. (Dicken 98). When... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whilst the top 10% of GDP earners receive approximately 100 times more than the bottom 10%,
at that lower end of the spectrum 2.8bn people live on less than $2 per day, and 1.1bn live in
poverty at less than $1 per day. This figure living in poverty has fallen by around 400mn over the
past 20 years which isn t a huge number in the grand scheme of things, however when this is
looked at in terms of proportion of the population the amount of people living in poverty has
more than halved. This decline in people living on less than a dollar a day doesn t necessarily
mean that we now live in a more globalized economy. The main reason for this decline is due to
the meteoric rise of China into the world trade network, along with Mexico and India, this kind
of measure of poverty as a marker for economic activity can be hazed by the integration of these
three economies alone. It can not be overlooked however and is definitely seen as a positive effect
on the distribution of world economic activity. In terms of income per capita, the average income in
the richest 20 countries is 37 times that in the poorest 20 a ratio that has doubled in the past 40
years. This would insinuate that the extremes of the distribution have increased, whilst the rich

Dna Testing And Law Enforcement Officers Essay
DNA forensics is a division of forensic science that focuses on the use of genetic material in
criminal investigation to answer questions pertaining to legal situations, including criminal and
civil cases. Through DNA testing, law enforcement officers are able to identify human remains or
the individual responsible for a crime. DNAtesting is a highly advanced scientific process that
involves replicating the human DNA sequence to create a genetic map of an individual. Because
of its reliability, DNA testing has become a significant factor in criminal cases. However, it has
also been identified as having the potential to violate privacy and constitutional rights. The DNA
identification process consists of five stages. These five stages include isolation, quantification,
polymerase chain reaction, short tandem polymerase chain reaction, and interpretation. Isolation
refers to the extraction of DNA from the nucleus of tissue cells. After extraction, scientists
quantify the DNA sample by ensuring that it is at least one billionth of a gram in size. If the
sample is smaller the isolation process must be repeated. Next, through polymerase chain reaction,
the single strand of DNA is split down the middle into two pieces and replicated to create a larger
sample. Next, through short tandem polymerase chain reaction, smaller sections of the DNA
sequence are replicated. This allows scientists to interpret the DNA and create a genetic profile of
the individual from whom the original DNA

Themes Of The Godfather
Chapter 1
Mario Puzo: Introduction
Mario Puzo was an American Screenwriter and Author who is best known for his Novel which
was later adapted into one of the most famous movie series of all times The Godfather.
Mario Puzo was born on October 15,1920 in an area of New York known as Hell s Kitchen.
Mario s Father was an illiterate and poor immigrant who abandoned Mario and his mother during
Mario s early teens as he was diagnosed with schizophrenia and was institutionalized. Mario s
mother wanted Mario to be a railroad clerk but Mario had took a liking to visiting the libraries
and read different works of literature.Later on Mario worked as a railroad switchboard attendant to
support his family. In a short span he was stationed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Puzo s early novels, The Dark Arena and The Fortunate Pilgrim, exhibit the realistic narrative
style typical of his later fiction and are considered minor classics of Italian American literature.
The Dark Arena talks about an American soldier who came back to a occupied Germany after the
Second World War. Introducing the theme of violent retribution, Puzo s protagonist kills a black
market drug supplier to show his rage at government , corruption in postwar Europe, and his own
failure to secure lifesaving medication for his German girlfriend. In The Fortunate Pilgrim, Puzo
takes us to Hell s kitchen and talks about the experiences of an Italian woman who struggles to
surmount poverty and crime. Though extolling her courage, cunning, and traditional values Puzo s
description of petty criminal activity in the poor Italian American neighbourhood offers ironic
justification for the life of crime as an alternate means of achieving the American Dream. The
themes that are central to Mario Puzos Godfather are criminal legitimacy and revenge, in which
Puzo chronicles the ascent of the Corleone Mafia family under the leadership of Don Vito Corleone,
a criminal mastermind, and his sons. Drawing parallels to American corporate structure, Don Vito s
benevolent authority is founded on supreme organizational control, calculated judgment, and swift
retaliation against all enemies of the family, including traitors and the incompetent within the clan
as well as members of opposing factions. In The Godfather Puzo begins to explore the dubious
status of organized crime as a self sufficient social entity governed by its own hallowed customs
and rigid codes of behavior, particularly personal honour and loyalty. The Sicilian is regarded as a
sequel to The Godfather, Puzo revisits the Corleone family.

On the Mercedes Benz homepage, if you scroll through it you will see the word innovation being
tossed about constantly. This is because, I believe, Mercedes Benz wants the consumer to know
that they are always innovating their products and they are the leaders of the automobile industry
today, tomorrow and in the future. On their homepage, the company points to their many
achievements over the century since their conception. More specifically the many firsts they have
been pioneers in. For example, the first motor car was made by Carl Benz, the founder, which
forever changed the way people moved and how that car sparked the legacy of innovation. By
utilizing their history, Mercedes set themselves apart from other automobile makers as always
remaining the first. Continuing forward with their first theme, on their website they also mention
how Bertha Benz, Carl s wife, was the first female driver in history as

The Importance Of Voter Participation In Canada
Elections are the most vital mechanism for a democracy since it is the role of the citizens to elect
the representatives of their government. As one of the most established democracies, Canada had
been experiencing decreasing participation in its elections. In 2008, voter turnout in Canada hit its
lowest point at an average of 58.8%, keeping in mind that the average voter turnoutin Canada has
been 70.7% (Canada, 2017). Even though there may not be one coherent explanation, there are a
few predictors that could justify the decline in Canada s voter turnout. Firstly, political interest is
essential in motivating citizens to participate in politics, and the least informed citizens are the less
motivated they are to participate. Secondly, personal barriers such as age, gender, race, language
and socio economic status play a major role as a determinant for the participation in elections.
Finally, Canada s current electoral process the system in which citizens use to cast their votes is a
factor that may deter participants from votingbecause of its cited weaknesses. For instance, the
current system has brought into question its lack of democracy and representation. Therefore,
while participation in federal elections is essential to a functioning democracy, there has been a
decline in voter turnout due to lack of political interest, personal barriers, and the electoral process.
Political interest is a highly important motivator for the participation in federal elections.

Dichotomy In Macbeth
Shakespeare sheds light on the dichotomy of good and evil with the connection of death. The
motif of light and dark is included each time someone is killed. Lady Macbeth associates the dark
with evil and sees it as protection to her in this violent state (lighten up!), Come, thick night... see
not the wound it makes, nor heaven peek through the blanket of the dark (33). She believes that by
being concealed in the shadows of the night, there will be no punishments in the afterlife for her
uncivilized actions, alluding to the fear surrounding religion. There s husbandry in heaven; their
candles are all out (49). Macbethcould surpass feeling of guilt or knowing his own regret if his
conscience could be clouded by the darkness of the night.

Ivan Ilych
After the reading the book of the The Death of Ivan Ilych by Leo Tolstoy the reader can conclude
that not everyone lives a happy life. People can go from being happy to sad in just an instant.
This story teaches the reader that not everyone is going to be there in the hard moments, only
those who truly appreciate and understand the person in pain will be there supporting. Leo
Tolstoy was very up forward on his stories. He usually did not watch what he said. Many people
might say his theme and characters role are affected by the life he lived. Every characterhas their
own role and meaning. For example, those who have read any background of Tolstoy can say that
he is very similar to Ivan Ilych. Tolstoy lived tough life his parents past away... Show more content

Most people use lie to cover more lies but Peter was a character who didn t care about lying. He
symbolizes false because he was one to lie with no problem or remorse. Peter preferred to lie
other than facing the consequences. If someone knew Ivan Ilych it was Peter although most of
the time he put himself before everyone else, he actually knew Ivan really well. Peter is not the
kind of best friend people want because he would be backstabbing everyone all the time. He
would make himself look in front of people and say what people want to hear in front of
everyone. A quote from the novella that explains how fake peter was is when the narrator says,
Praskovya Fedorovna recognizing Peter Ivanovich, sighed, went close up to him, took his hand, and
said: I know you were a true friend to Ivan Ilych . . . and looked at him awaiting some suitable
response. This quote explains how people were starting to realize how fake of a friend Peter was to
Ivan. This concludes that people are not always who others may think they are. As in for Peter
Ivanovich he is one of the worst traders a person could have as a friend. His last name Ivanovich
stands for Ivan s son. That is why maybe he was relieved when Ivan Ilych dies because he is truly
tired of living under his shadow. Peter was a false person because when his best friend dies he feels
like more doors open. That is why people might say don t judge a book

Protests In Antigone By Sophocles
Throughout Antigone, Sophocles develops the idea of emotion in protests through the actions of
Antigone. Antigone, angry at Creon s refusal to bury her dead brother, decides to protest and go
against the rule of the state. Creon responds in return, rashly sentencing Antigone to death. At the
end, the play ends in tragedy, with Creons son Haemon, Creon s wife, and Antigoneall dead from
their emotionally driven choices. Throughout his play, Sophoclesdevelops the idea of pathos in
protests, showing that emotions are the driving force in starting many protests, the use of pathos is
essential if the protest wishes to grow and gather a following, and that relying on simply pathos and
emotions will lead to the failure of the protest without... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the play, Sophocles presents the great power pathos has on swaying the minds of
people, and the great importance it has in allowing a protest to flourish. When looking at the
chorus, it is clear the necessity pathos has in convincing others to join your side. When Antigone
is sentenced to death, the chorus says, In all her lovely strength she traded the light of day for the
bolted brazen vault buried within her tomb, her bridal chamber, wed to the yoke and broken. But
she was of glorious birth my child, my child (l.1036 1040). The positive light that the chorus
shines onto Antigone, is a stark contrast to how they portrayed Antigone as a wretched child in the
beginning. The reason for this sudden change is evident when the chorus mentions Antigone s
current dire situation. By apealing to the people s emotions through her actions of being
sentenced to death, Antigone suceeds in gaining support that she would not have had without the
use of pathos. A modern example of the use of pathos being vital in drawing people in to a
protest could be seen throught the Civil Rights Movement led by Maritn Luther King Jr. His use
of pathos shines through in his Letter from Birmingham Jail , where he writes, As you seek to
explain to your six year old daughter why she can t go to the public

Personal Branding In The Workplace
Before you can learn much about how to use personal branding for a competitive edge, it s
important to have an understanding of what personal branding is. Fortunately, it s possible to take
a look at the way many successful people have used personal branding to get a feel for what it is
and how it can work for you.
Personal branding is something that has been done by a number of well known people. Some of
the most well known among them are:
* Oprah Winfrey. Think what you will about Oprah s personality, but from the time that she
branded her show with her own name and aired a number of her personal struggles in a public
way to the time that she launched her magazine, her book club and the talk show careers of Dr.
Phil and Rachael Ray, Oprah has remained true to her personal brand. ... Show more content on

Donald Trump isn t just a real estate mogul, he s also a man who worked hard, made his way to
the top and then, time and time again, has found ways of staying there. Trump hotels have a certain
reputation; so do his investment strategies that are available to almost everyone who watches his
infomercials and has an internet connection, and, of course, The Apprentice also has a large
audience simply because of all that the man has done to establish his personal brand.
In addition to Oprah and The Donald , there are a variety of others who have built their identities
and empires on a foundation of personal branding. From Madonna to Bill Gates, from Rachael Ray
(who established her brand by promising to teach others to prepare meals in 30 minutes and helping
everyone to recognize that cooking is something that everyone can do) to Richard Branson,
personal branding has proven to be a successful strategy one that can also help you to get a

Character Analysis Of Shinji Ikari
That all being said, let s discuss each character in further detail to provide better insight as to why
their faults are necessary plot devices to tell a larger story (i.e. the central story).
Shinji The reserved, self loathing protagonist, Shinji Ikari, epitomizes the introvert personality by
concealing his true identity a la the hedgehog s dilemma (first introduced by philosopher Arthur
Schopenhauer). Just a brief reminder for anyone who hasn t watched the show for quite some time,
as this concept is fundamental in understanding our main character, the premise of this theory goes
as follows: forging intimate relationships, despite our best intentions, causes shared emotional pain;
therefore, provoking guarded behavior and overall weaker relationships due to the lack of intimacy.
This explains Shinji s maladroit encounters with female characters in the show, and his reluctancy
to solidify lasting relationships. He has become content to live in the imaginary shell that is his
happy place, believing that expressing his true self will cause unintended harm to others and
himself. Hideaki Anno, to his credit, overlaid his permeating depression into a fourteen year old
character, that, for the most part, comes through as feeling authentic. This is not your prototypical
action hero who possesses an indomitable will to overcome any, and all challenges; rather, Shinji,
on countless occasions, shows signs of regression, a trait that is synonymous with the human
condition. He

Gullivers Supposed English Superiority Essay
Gullivers Supposed English Superiority Gulliver s typical Anglocentric Enlightenment views are
best exemplified in Chapter 1 of Part IV of Gulliver s Travels. The long paragraph, in which he
describes his encounter with the Yahoos as well as the circumstances leading up to it, illustrates
the climax of his Anglocentric views, after which his English pride begins to gradually degenerate
and his desire to emulate the Houyhnyms arises. His English pride in this paragraph is
demonstrated by his resolution to trade his life with the local Savages using Toys as his only
means, his judgment of the Yahoo s lack of comprehensive language ability, and his ever present
disgust for bodily functions. As the passage opens,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to his sense of Enlightenment superiority, Gulliver does not even entertain the possibility
that his life actually is as insignificant as the Toys which he plans on trading for it. Ironically, as
his pride degenerates into a hatred for his own race, Gulliver indeed starts to believe in the
insignificance of human life. After Gulliver considers his options, he inspects the island and
observes a species of animals whom he likens at different points in the paragraph to goats,
squirrels, monsters, cattle and beasts. It is no wonder then, that later when Gulliver reveals that
these creatures are human beings, that his reader is surprised. He describes their shapes as
Singular and deformed....their Skins were of a brown Buff colour. Perhaps one reason Gulliver
does not initially see any resemblance between himself and the Yahoos is because they are not
white; perhaps his Anglocentric ideal does not permit any color but white to be acknowledged as
his equal. What seems certain, however, is the fact that Gulliver feels an immediate antipathy to the
Yahoos because they show no indication of having a rational language. In watching them, he does
not see them speak to each other and this alienates him because as we see in each voyage, it is
imperative to Gulliver that he learn the language of the peoples he encounters, from the Lilliputians
to the Brobdingnagians. As with all his journeys, he wants to find inhabitants that he may

Essay about The Symbol of the Heart in The Floating Opera
The Symbol of the Heart in The Floating Opera
The heart is the dominant symbol in The Floating Opera, more important even than the symbol of
the showboat of the novel s title. From beginning to end the book is richly populated by
references to the heart on both a literal, physical level, and a figurative, symbolic one. In the first
case, literal references are made to Todd s heart condition. In the second case, the heart plays two
symbolic roles; not only does it serve as a symbol of Todd s emotional and non rational side, but
the frailty of Todd s heart serves as a correlative for the fragility of all human life. This paper will

One of the most striking and sustained examples of the heart s dual function is found in the
chapter, A raison de coeur . Here Todd explains his reasons for paying his hotel bill and
reregistering every day. Todd says, I have an excellent reason for not doing so, but it is a raison de
coeur, if I may say so a reason of the heart and not of the head. 4 In one sense, Todd s decision is
prompted by the physical reality of his medical circumstance; he writes, Each soft beat my sick
heart beat might be my sick heart s last 5, and also:
Having begun this sentence, I may not live to write its end ... having poured my drink, I may not
live to taste it ... [or it] may pass a live man s tongue to burn a dead man s belly ... having
slumbered I may never wake ... having waked, may never living sleep this for thirty five years has
been the condition of my existence, the great fact of my life. 6
This is a clear example of the two fold nature of the heart in the book. Not only is the physical
impact of Todd s heart malady emphasised, but the role of his ailed heart as a symbol for the

Modest Mussorgsky
During the first half of the 19th century, opera was in it s golden age. Composers sought to capture
drama, emotion, and personalities, creating a closer connection with their audience. With this, they
also began to reflect on the concerns of a broad audience; love and loyalty to family and/or nation,
women s desire for independence, struggle for freedom, fear of evil. This want to appeal to the
population sparked the theme of national identity, which came to be known as Nationalism. The
French Revolution and Napoleonic Wars helped spread the concept of a nation as a group of
citizens with a common heritage, rather than as subjects of a ruler. Influence of this idea grew
throughout the 19th century. Nationalism unified the people through... Show more content on

Immigrants from Europe, Latin America, Asia, and former African American slaves and their
descendants, brought their own musical traditions from folk to classical. Ethnic divisions were the
distinctions between classical, popular, and folk music. These three categories represented different
attitudes toward notation, composition, and performance. Classical tradition centered on the
composer and the work, and required intricate notation of the score. Popular music was written
down and sold as a commodity, but centered on the performer and the performance, allowing for
leeway in the notated music. Folk music was independent of musical notation, being passed on
through oral tradition. Overall, these three categories often overlapped. Folk tunes were written
down and sold as popular music, arranged for concert performance, or incorporated into classical
pieces; classical works were transcribed and altered for performance in popular venues; and some
popular songs became so well known that they were then passed down orally, like folk

Book Report on Silent Spring
INTRODUCTION
In the book Silent spring written by Rachael Carson we find a picture of Carson s deep concept
about the connection between nature s equilibrium and the web of life that has been ruined by the
uncontrolled use of insecticides which in turn affected the healthy livelihood of this earth s
creatures. Furthermore, she tells the readers of substitute techniques of achieving the same ends.
The title of the book is enough to make us understand that it was a hint of a spring season with no
bird songs painting our atmosphere meaning that all birds had vanished due to misuse of pesticides.
DISCUSSION
The book starts with a story of a town in America. Carson explains the town as being very beautiful

She tries to get across the fact that the aerial spraying campaigns to kill the gypsy moth in the
northern states and the fire ant in the southern states were very much damaging, ineffective and
also expensive. This incident had a chain reaction resulting in crop failure, hurting wildlife and also
cattle products (such as milk) and vegetables were found having DDT and thus unhealthy for human
consumption.
Carson lets us know that people are a victim to daily chemical poisoning in even minute doses.
She goes into the very details of domestic appliances and necessities. Carson talks about many
things that don t seem to be much of a danger on a daily basis to a regular person. Things such as
bug sprays, lotions, paints and varnishes, and even a pocket sized insecticide dispenser are brought
up to help demonstrate the everyday risks we encounter.
Only yesterday mankind lived in fear of the scourges of smallpox, cholera, and plague..............
Today we are concerned with a different kind of hazard that lurks in our environment a hazard we
ourselves have introduced into our world as our modern way of life has evolved.
According to Carson we have given rise to a new range of health problems because the air we
breathe, the water we drink, the food we eat and everything else in our environment is polluted. As

Essay On Cost Drivers
Implementation of similar drivers occur during Maintenance and Service Operations. As with new
fabrication, labor is a key prime cost associated with service and regular maintenance of aircraft.
Though this cost is easy to allocate to specific airframes by hour, it is also important to note that
service and maintenance require a higher percentage of Support Coststhrough inspections, analysis,
and customer involvement activities. As such, implementation of ABC methods in this sector
requires more detailed analysis of support and labor costs to identify cross activity correlations.
Finally, Training and Support Activities would be the most difficult to clarify prior to
implementation. Costdrivers for non standardized training events or... Show more content on

ABC Cost Structure Cessna has a fairly straightforward product set that lends itself to ABC
fairly easily. Regardless if the airframe is being designed, assembled, or serviced, the ABC
activities and associated cost drivers are applicable to all operating activities. Product promotion
and advertising utilize similar mediums and sales of all types of airframes are handled using
similar cost drivers. Moving into the Design and Engineering phase, employees can again combine
these tasks into an activity center that runs off of design hours as their primary cost driver.
Airframe Fabrication covers the physical production and construction activities and would be
budgeted based on multiple cost drivers depending on the hourly requirement per item. The most
logical cost driver in this category is the number of parts requiring assembly or fabrication. Once
assembly is complete,
Inspection activities assess the quality and integrity of the finished airframe to prevent failures and
possible catastrophic consequences. Similar to fabricating, where the number of parts determine
cost, the cost driver for inspections are the number of inspections necessary to obtain the required
airworthiness certifications. The final overhead costs

Pathos In Advertising
In a day, the average American sees thousands of ads, the world is covered in them. Be it on TV,
in the daily newspaper or on the shopping cart one picks up at the grocery store, exposure to
these ads is inescapable. Most are these ads are harmless, wanting only to catch the attention of
potential customers and invest them in their product. The companies make use use of pathos ( for
example the Budweiser commercials with the puppy and horse), logos (the Geico 15 minutes
could save you 15% or more... ), or ethos (Jamie Fox using his iPhone 6s in Apple s latest ads) to
sell their product. Some companies, however, employ extreme tactics to stand out. They create ads

Within the advertisement they broadcast systemically reenforced and exaggerated a large
number of stereotypes about both men and women. Some may wonder, however, how this
really effects everyday life. If someone sees so many ads in a day what is one more, one that is
just a bit more sexist than the typical beer ad. While this it is true that the average person is
overstimulated by the number of ads as it is there is still something to be said for the content of
the ads. Even if a person doesn t mentally acknowledge them the brain still notes them and stores
them in the brain. If time after time one sees women in the submissive role or treated as objects,
chances are they will start subconsciously believing it. On the other hand if men are constantly
portrayed as stupid and hormone driven then that bias will start to seep into reality. There are
also significant moral issues with this ad, if time after time women are portrayed simply as a
visual feast it changes how they will be treated for the rest of their lives. Next time they walk

St Louis Brass Concert Report
This past Thursday, I attended the fourth event in the Presidential concert series. The guest
musicians were the wonderful quintet, Saint Louis Brass. They articulately play each note to create
a melodious combination with their two trumpets, french horn, trombone, and tuba. During their
set, they played a variety of antiqued classics, modern edgy pieces, and smooth jazz. Saint Louis
Brass began their set with a harmonious, traditional 1600s tune. I was amazed at how well all the
sounds from the brass instruments melded together. Before hand, when I thought of brass
instruments, especially trumpets, I thought of the sharp notes often played in jazz; however, the
smooth sounds from the five instruments infiltrated the room, completely filling my body with a
calm peace. The musicians sat, fully engaged in the musicthat buzzed from their lips. I really enjoy
this antiquated piece of music far more than I anticipated. The next song, called Four Times Five,

Pkkia Genetic Disorder
PKU, also known as Phenylketonuria, is a genetic disorder that builds up the amino acid
phenylalanine in the human body. This genetic disorder is known to be an example of the norm of
reaction. The norm of reaction defines itself as a phenotype range that a person with a certain
genotype reveals due to the differing of a certain environmental condition. Since this genetic
mutation targeted the genethat encrypts the enzyme phenylalanine hydroxylase, it shows that if a
person has one and/or two copies of that certain gene, that person would have the ability to eat and
metabolize foods with phenylalanine. But, if a person has two copies of the mutated gene, they
wouldn t be able to eat nor metabolize foods with phenylalanine because if a person with PKU
were to ingest foods with phenylalanine, the amino acid will accumulate in their body and become
highly toxic to the person and the PKU homozygotes will lead to an assortment of detrimental
symptoms, which currently occurs in about 1 in 10,000 babies.... Show more content on

Advantages Of Executive Compensation
Bonus plan or executive compensation is defined by Scott (2009, pg. 356) as: An executive
compensation plan is an agency contract between the firm and its managers that attempts to align
the interests of owners and managers by basing the manager s compensation on one or more
measures of the manager s performance in operating the firm Bonus contracts usually specify
manager s reward on the basis of earnings and share price. The rewards are usually under the form
of cash, shares or options. However, on the other hand, this strategy somehow pressures managers
to manipulate earnings to re ceive bonus at the end of financial year. Healey (1985) suggests that
managers adjust ment of accruals is affected by income reporting incentives of their bonus contract
and that changes in accounting procedures are associated with modification of their bonus plan.

On the other hand, manager hopes that by doing so, in the years later, earnings will be less
burdened by those expenses. How can managers afford to do so? Given their right to use
judgment, they will deliberately choose income decreasing accruals in calculating financial
numbers such as deferring revenue or accelerating write offs (Healy, 1985). Big bath strategy can
easily be excused as the practice of conservatism principle which favors recording lower earnings
if there is any doubt. Big bath usually happens at the last quarter reports, in which managers have
the clear pic ture of their operation in a year and can confirm that their companies are not going to

diseases found in blood or urine, and are around harsh chemicals that are often dangerous if
inhaled or absorbed into the skin. Dealing with weapons is also a hazard and could cause an

Success And Sustainability Of A Business
Many entrepreneurs aspire to own or operate their own business. After deciding on the purpose and
mission of the company, one must chose a form of organization for the business to operate under.
These organizational forms include sole proprietorship, partnership, corporation or a limited
liability company. Not only does this decision determine how many individuals are involved in the
ownership of the business, but it also determines what laws, regulations and guidelines must be
followed to ensure success and sustainability of a business.
Across the United States, the majority of small businesses are owned and operated by one person,
which is called sole proprietorship (Liuzzo, 2016). As the most widespread, least expensive
business to establish, many small business entrepreneurs tend to take this path to avoid the need to
hiring employees, pay for expensive locations, evade corporate taxes and to maintain complete
control of all business transactions. Evident by the 2013 tax returns, the benefits of sole
proprietorship sound appealing with approximately 24.1 million individual income tax returns
reported sole proprietorship activity, a 2.2 percent increase from 2012 (Dungan, 2016).
Although the advantages appear to be rewarding for this independent business adventure, being the
primary owner faces a number of difficulties. These disadvantages are not only hardships for the
business but they are also direct liabilities for the business owner. The owner has unlimited personal

Argumentative Essay On Artificial Intelligence
Artificial Intelligence is a topic within the public media that has existed for decades, but is now
a concern due to the reality of human advancement and innovation in the field of science and
technology. Many people believe that computers will become self aware or sentient and view
humanity as a disposable resource and gain supremacy. Reasoning that research on the
technology should halt and not become more advance. Whereas others believe they will help
catapult research and the economy forward, supporting the operations and innovations the
technology offers. The complicated and divided solutions to the debate aren t obvious, but there
are more benefits to improving artificial intelligence than there is stopping it. Therefore, the
negative effects people believe will occur can be resolved. There are different types of artificial
intelligence that many institutes and companies believe in. However, they all share the same
belief of a self aware, conscious, human like, computer system, the type of AI people fear.
Disregarding that an AI is a computer much like a phone or laptop, one must consider that if
something is sentient like a person or animal, should they be treated like one? And if not, is it
discrimination or racism when it is treated like an item? Slavery treated people based on race or
social status differently, the bottom being slaves. Some might argue that machines don t have a

The Role Of Blindness In Oedipus The King
The word blindness can be used thematically and literally; thematically being someone can be
ignorant or oblivious to see the truth or world around them, and in a literal sense it means that a
person is physically blind. In Oedipus the King by Sophocles the role of blindness literally and
thematically is used to show how the character Oedipus is oblivious to see the truth in his life is
like Donald Trump, America s forty fifth president, on his views of climate change. Donald
Trump is blinded by the fact that climate change is a real problem and in his mind the crazy
weather is just the weather itself acting up. The author, Sophocles, of the play Oedipus the King,
portrays the word blindness in two ironic ways. Though before the reader learns about this they
must understand the purpose of why Sophocles used blindness , the author is trying to teach his
audience to see clearly more around them, rather than being ignorant around the world that is
around them. Oedipus, the main focus of the play, is seen blind in an important part of the play,
when his wife, Jocasta, or later to be found out as his mom, finds out that the person she married
is her son, and that she had, had children with him, so in the end she hangs herself, his wife was
blind at the start just like her son, but now she sees that the fate of Oedipus was to come true. In
summation of Oedipus fate that the ancient Greeks believed in very well, once Oedipus was born
his fate in his life was to kill

Different Types Of Valuation Methods
Within the financial sector, there are many different types of valuation methods in which their
purpose is to receive the share price of a company. Throughout this paper, I will discuss the various
methods and the factors that contribute to the outcomes of each one. The context of this paper will
be discussed in the manners of both the positive and negative aspects of each method. With each
method, I will also explain the factors that significantly influence the price of each method used.
Currently, Cenovus is trading on the Toronto StockExchange at a value of $17.83. One of the key
aspects that I will acknowledge is that they currently have a long term growth value of 108% and
their target price is $18.55. Other factors can be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is one of the most significant downfalls of this method, because you can greatly misprice the
value of the firm without considering the cash flows as well as other variables. Another common
valuation method that one may use is the EV/EBITDA ratio method. This specific method takes
into consideration the value of EBITDA as well as the value of net debt (market value of debt).
Another important consideration that investors must be aware of is the type of depreciation
method that Cenovus uses. Since Cenovus is a large asset company, this is a vital aspect to
consider when using the book value method. If Cenovus depreciates their assets at a faster pace,
this will allow investors to part take in a valuable investment and would cause for a positive pick
for their portfolio. However, if the company depreciates their asset in a slower manner, this could
create a higher book price than what the stock is currently trading at. This may misrepresent the
value of the firm to the investor. Investors should be cautious when considering this type of method
for valuing companies. Therefore, investors should do thorough research in what type of
depreciation method Cenovus uses. The methods include a straight line depreciation or a double
declining method. Both have a significant impact on the share price of the firm when using the book
value approach.
One common method within the industry

creation. In the tiniest cell, God s workmanship can be displayed. God made each cell to have a
specific purpose towards the human body or the plant. Cells and molecules are the work of an
intelligent designer and are not random chances. Without God, cells could not accomplish their
purpose. God places every geneon DNAand makes the cells come together to form a human. For
you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother s womb (Psalm 139:13, NIV).
Through cells and molecules, God creates each unique person on His earth.
When a Christian scientist knows God is at work in His creation, they can have a new perspective
of cells. They will see cells as the design of God instead of results of randomness. Once they
observe and study cells, they can learn more about God. They can learn how detail oriented and
omniscient He is. God is in control not only of the seen world, but also the world we can only see
under the microscope! Each cell and molecule are shaped a specific way to carry out a

The Isolation Of Women During The Victorian Era
1.This quote goes back to the concept of isolation and independence. Here just like in the
beginning of the book, Jane feels isolated and alone and feels like no one can help and ironically it
is her cousins who alienated her to begin with but now are bringing her in.
2. Another clear reference to gender equality and the lack of it as well as a comment on class roles.
Here Bronte shows the absurdity of gender restriction and attempts to shed light on the fact that
women during the Victorian era had no rights and were too restricted.
Ferndean
1. Then he stretched his hand out to be led. I took that dear hand, held it a moment to my lips,
then let it pass round my shoulder: being so much lower of stature than he, I served both for his
prop and guide. (Bronte 520)
2. Reader, I married him. (Bronte 521).
1. This quote shows how while before Mr. Rochester used to lead Jane when Jane was
metaphorically blind and used to support her, the opposite has just happened and now Jane leads
the actually blind Mr. Rochester and supports him because now she is rich.
2. Bronte addresses the reader personally which signifies that something important is about to
happen, and it does. Jane and Mr. Rochester have switched roles. Jane now can see while now
Rochester can t. This perfect role reversal emphasizes how it is possible to reach gender equality
and how someone from a lower class can actually work their way up and get lucky and end up in a
higher class while the opposite can happen to

The Life Of Reason By George Santayana
Here s an experiment for you. Ask the next 10 people you meet about what comes to mind when
they think of the word disaster. I did, and you ll probably get answers similar to the ones that I
received: war, hurricane, earthquake, etc. Not a single person got anywhere close to housing crisis,
and unless you work at a mortgagelender or economic think tank, you re probably not going to get
that answer either. This is despite the fact that anybody on the receiving end of that question has
probably not experienced a severe earthquake or hurricane, yet has felt the impact of the 2008
housing bubble simply by being a participant in the economy.
In The Life of Reason, novelist George Santayana wrote the now famous phrase, those who cannot
remember the past are condemned to repeat it. That holds true for housing crises, specifically the
one in 2008. Less than a decade after the world economy nearly collapsed, the vast majority of us
still don t understand what happened or why it happened. Some of us do know, but choose not to
care. Both are equally dangerous.
Housing crises are avoidable. They are borne out of lapses in judgment from three main groups:
lenders that do not make responsible lending decisions, buyers that do not make responsible
buying decisions, and governments that do not make responsible legislation to govern either of the
former parties. Each of them needs to be addressed in order to avoid repeating a sordid, destructive
past.
BANKS: MANAGE RISK

Breaking Dawn Edward s Pov
Breaking Dawn: Edward 29 3. BIG DAY I miss you already. I don t need to leave. I can stay...
Mmm. It was the eve of our wedding and Bella and I were lying in her narrow bed together, as
was our habit. Though it was August, she was wrapped in her usual swaddling blanket, a
protection against the chill of my skin. The bulky afghan did not prevent Bella s hands from
wandering about, exploring the unclothed parts of my body. If she had her way, both of us would
be even less clothed. I found shirtless to be challenge enough. With Bella s fingers probing the
outlines of each muscle and bone above my waistband, her lips on mine, I was both awash in
pleasure and sinking into concern. Some might call it performance anxiety and I could... Show more

I laughed at his expression as he stood up and brushed the grass off his jeans. He tried to look
casual as he readied himself for a surprise counterattack. Just as he launched himself at me, I took
off running, knowing he couldn t catch me at full speed. Relax, I heard Jasper reply to Bella. We
Cullens have our own version. Just a few mountain lions, a couple of grizzly bears. Pretty much
an ordinary night out. Jasper had told Bella the truth. We would be celebrating our boys night
out with a hunt. I didn t need the blood at the moment, but it was still a good idea. If I fed now,
then I wouldn t have to leave Bella to hunt for the first two weeks of our honeymoon. Besides, I
only had one more day to remain chaste until Bella and I were married. I did not want to slip up
at this late date getting out of Bella s bed would make that a whole lot easier. Running gave me
time to think about the last couple of months. As my fiancГ©, Bella had accepted the black credit
card with her name on it attached to my account. Like the cell phone, I d presented it as a safety
precaution, but she d started to use it for other things too, and that had been the point. Bella had
quit her job at Newtons Olympic Outfitters, so she didn t have any pocket money to speak of. I
was glad that she d quit. I preferred not giving Mike Newton the opportunity to gape at and entertain

Suji Kwock Kim s Monologue for an Onion
Truth comes from feelings and experiences influenced by values and society. Images of wants and
needs are created based on perceptions and daily life practices of the things people think should be.
In the poem Monologue for an Onion by Suji Kwock Kim, the author depicts a reality of truth and
perception among the use of tone. By exploring the values of structure, and theme, one analyzes the
truths behind the poem and relates the pitiful and mocking tone to important attributes of each
character. The contrary characteristics of the onionversus the person are significant elements that
make the poem satisfying and believable. If you look into the title Monologue for an Onion , one
would suggest that the poem would actually be about a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The distinctiveness of style and language represented in the poem are what identify the
sorrowful and aggressive tone. From the opening of the poem we learn that the onion is
pleading with someone to stop cutting him into pieces. The onion says I don t mean to make
you cry. /I mean nothing, but this has not kept you/ From peeling away my body. (lines 1 3) The
attitude being presented is sorrowful. Pity is being expressed by the onion because it notices
itself as being the reason why the person addressed is crying. At the same time, the person could
be crying to get the onions attention and win the onions sympathy. Based on the context, the onion
seems to represent a male who s fed up with the way he has been treated and the person he s
addressing seems to be a female who s hurting and seeking some kind of truth. They are in a
dreadful relationship and the voice presented in the poem acts as a response to the previous
conversation the two had before the onion spoke. Because the onion feels as though he is
responsible for the persons tear s, he s reassuring himself and her that he means no harm. The
choice of words in lines 5 6 demonstrate the sorrowful tone I speak of, uttered by the onion. He
says all the debris of pursuit./Poor deluded human: you seek my heart. (lines 5 6) In these lines, I
see the onion as thinking he is above the human. Like a father looking down on his son, shaking his
head, accentuating that he has so much to learn.

Theme Of Women In A Gun For Sale By Graham Greene
Graham Greene has written many novels in his life and has placed his experiences within his
stories. Graham Greene s beliefs come across in his books and lay out his views on society.
Greene did not shy away from using tropes in his book, and usually, these literary tropes included
the women of his novel. Two of his books A Gun for Sale and Brighton Rock
leave Greene s female
counterparts feeling unsatisfied with the characterization of the female leads in his stories, for they
appear to only influence the novel through acting as a plot device. From the surface, Greene s
female characters only fulfill the purpose of the innocent or right half of the relationships, while the
men in the novels heavily identify with corruption and evil. Greene utilizes the theme of innocence
versus corruption, to develop the characterization and relationships of the main characters in A Gun
for Sale, as well as Brighton Rock, through this lens it is clear to see how Greene relates the
corruption of the male characters to Greene s idea of anarchism.
Innocence and corruption, two different themes that work exceptionally well together to showcase
the difference in characters. An important thing to know is what do these words mean? If
innocence means those who are free from guilt or sin through being unacquainted with evil, then
none of the characters in Greene s novels would ever be considered innocent because they all at one
point or throughout the entire story are acquainted with evil. However,

Dental Implant Argumentative Essay
Thinking About Dental Implants? Consider These X Benefits
Cosmetic dentistry is a great solution to fix aesthetic problems you are experiencing with your
teeth. For those that are missing teeth, you have a couple options available to you. While partial
dentures and bridges are a simple way to hide that gap, you may be thinking about getting dental
implants instead. Before you decide, it is important to understand what dental implants are and
several of their benefits.
What Is A Dental Implant?
A dental implant is a permanent solution that will give you a fake tooth that looks, feels, and
functions just like a real tooth. The post for the implant is fused into your jawbone, which will
provide a very firm attachment point for the fake tooth.
Benefits Of Getting A Dental Implant... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The improved appearance will not only improve a smile, but give you a confidence boost since you
know the new tooth looks natural when others see it.
Durability
A dental implant is one of the most durable ways to replace a tooth. The main issue with
alternatives, like bridges and partial dentures, is that they may break and need to be replaced over
time. If the implant is installed correctly and properly maintained, it can potentially last your entire
life.
Improved Speech
Partial or full dentures can slip out of place when wearing them, which causes a wearer to have
difficulty speaking because they are constantly aware of dentures that could be moving. Implants
are fused to your jawbone permanently and will not slip. You will see improved speech with
implants.
Easier Eating
While dentures and bridges do not restrict your eating a whole bunch, extra consideration needs to
go into what you eat to prevent damaging them. Implants are as strong as your real teeth, so you can
treat them exactly how you would if you had all natural teeth.

  • 2. Four Leadership Theories Introduction I have just been appointed to organise a small team in a large corporate organisation. As I am new to this role I have been provided with the assistance of a mentor. TASK 1 In the first meeting I realised that to have a useful discussion with the mentor I should study the concepts and theories related to management and leadership so I can properly make the notes that would help in proper discussion with the mentor. For this reason I studied different articles and make notes that consist of: AN ANALYSIS OF THE CONCEPTS OF LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT In this report I will discuss the four leadership theories that include leader member exchange theory, path goal theory, transactional transformational theory and the full range leadership theory. (UK essays. November 2013) we start the report by discussing the leader member exchange theory. Leader Member Exchange Theory, also called LMX or Vertical Dyad Linkage Theory, explains how leaders in groups maintain their position through a series of tacit exchange agreements with their members . In this theory there are 3 qualities of the leader follower collaborations were analyzed by the LMX such as locus of control, need for power, and self esteem. The extent to which a person has control over his life and environment is locus of control. A person who think they are responsible for all their activities are the persons with the internal locus of control. These people are usually the people who show more satisfaction ... Globalization is currently a very hot topic and many people have an awful lot to say about the matter, creating different theories and points of view. A definition of globalization could be, The straightforward exchange between core and peripheral areas based upon a broad division of labour, is being transformed into a highly complex, kaleidoscopic structure involving the fragmentation of many production processes and their geographical relocation on a global scale in ways which slice through national boundaries. Whilst the top 10% of GDP earners receive approximately 100 times more than the bottom 10%, at that lower end of the spectrum 2.8bn people live on less than $2 per day, and 1.1bn live in poverty at less than $1 per day. This figure living in poverty has fallen by around 400mn over the past 20 years which isn t a huge number in the grand scheme of things, however when this is looked at in terms of proportion of the population the amount of people living in poverty has more than halved. This decline in people living on less than a dollar a day doesn t necessarily mean that we now live in a more globalized economy. The main reason for this decline is due to the meteoric rise of China into the world trade network, along with Mexico and India, this kind of measure of poverty as a marker for economic activity can be hazed by the integration of these three economies alone. It can not be overlooked however and is definitely seen as a positive effect on the distribution of world economic activity. In terms of income per capita, the average income in the richest 20 countries is 37 times that in the poorest 20 a ratio that has doubled in the past 40 years. This would insinuate that the extremes of the distribution have increased, whilst the rich have been getting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Dna Testing And Law Enforcement Officers Essay DNA forensics is a division of forensic science that focuses on the use of genetic material in criminal investigation to answer questions pertaining to legal situations, including criminal and civil cases. Through DNA testing, law enforcement officers are able to identify human remains or the individual responsible for a crime. DNAtesting is a highly advanced scientific process that involves replicating the human DNA sequence to create a genetic map of an individual. Because of its reliability, DNA testing has become a significant factor in criminal cases. However, it has also been identified as having the potential to violate privacy and constitutional rights. The DNA identification process consists of five stages. These five stages include isolation, quantification, polymerase chain reaction, short tandem polymerase chain reaction, and interpretation. Isolation refers to the extraction of DNA from the nucleus of tissue cells. After extraction, scientists quantify the DNA sample by ensuring that it is at least one billionth of a gram in size. If the sample is smaller the isolation process must be repeated. Next, through polymerase chain reaction, the single strand of DNA is split down the middle into two pieces and replicated to create a larger sample. Next, through short tandem polymerase chain reaction, smaller sections of the DNA sequence are replicated. This allows scientists to interpret the DNA and create a genetic profile of the individual from whom the original DNA ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Puzo s early novels, The Dark Arena and The Fortunate Pilgrim, exhibit the realistic narrative style typical of his later fiction and are considered minor classics of Italian American literature. The Dark Arena talks about an American soldier who came back to a occupied Germany after the Second World War. Introducing the theme of violent retribution, Puzo s protagonist kills a black market drug supplier to show his rage at government , corruption in postwar Europe, and his own failure to secure lifesaving medication for his German girlfriend. In The Fortunate Pilgrim, Puzo takes us to Hell s kitchen and talks about the experiences of an Italian woman who struggles to surmount poverty and crime. Though extolling her courage, cunning, and traditional values Puzo s description of petty criminal activity in the poor Italian American neighbourhood offers ironic justification for the life of crime as an alternate means of achieving the American Dream. The themes that are central to Mario Puzos Godfather are criminal legitimacy and revenge, in which Puzo chronicles the ascent of the Corleone Mafia family under the leadership of Don Vito Corleone, a criminal mastermind, and his sons. Drawing parallels to American corporate structure, Don Vito s benevolent authority is founded on supreme organizational control, calculated judgment, and swift retaliation against all enemies of the family, including traitors and the incompetent within the clan as well as members of opposing factions. In The Godfather Puzo begins to explore the dubious status of organized crime as a self sufficient social entity governed by its own hallowed customs and rigid codes of behavior, particularly personal honour and loyalty. The Sicilian is regarded as a sequel to The Godfather, Puzo revisits the Corleone family. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. The Importance Of Voter Participation In Canada Elections are the most vital mechanism for a democracy since it is the role of the citizens to elect the representatives of their government. As one of the most established democracies, Canada had been experiencing decreasing participation in its elections. In 2008, voter turnout in Canada hit its lowest point at an average of 58.8%, keeping in mind that the average voter turnoutin Canada has been 70.7% (Canada, 2017). Even though there may not be one coherent explanation, there are a few predictors that could justify the decline in Canada s voter turnout. Firstly, political interest is essential in motivating citizens to participate in politics, and the least informed citizens are the less motivated they are to participate. Secondly, personal barriers such as age, gender, race, language and socio economic status play a major role as a determinant for the participation in elections. Finally, Canada s current electoral process the system in which citizens use to cast their votes is a factor that may deter participants from votingbecause of its cited weaknesses. For instance, the current system has brought into question its lack of democracy and representation. Therefore, while participation in federal elections is essential to a functioning democracy, there has been a decline in voter turnout due to lack of political interest, personal barriers, and the electoral process. Political interest is a highly important motivator for the participation in federal elections. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Leo Tolstoy was very up forward on his stories. He usually did not watch what he said. Many people might say his theme and characters role are affected by the life he lived. Peter is not the kind of best friend people want because he would be backstabbing everyone all the time. He would make himself look in front of people and say what people want to hear in front of everyone. A quote from the novella that explains how fake peter was is when the narrator says, Praskovya Fedorovna recognizing Peter Ivanovich, sighed, went close up to him, took his hand, and said: I know you were a true friend to Ivan Ilych . . . and looked at him awaiting some suitable response. • 12. Protests In Antigone By Sophocles Throughout Antigone, Sophocles develops the idea of emotion in protests through the actions of Antigone. Antigone, angry at Creon s refusal to bury her dead brother, decides to protest and go against the rule of the state. Creon responds in return, rashly sentencing Antigone to death. At the end, the play ends in tragedy, with Creons son Haemon, Creon s wife, and Antigoneall dead from their emotionally driven choices. Throughout his play, Sophoclesdevelops the idea of pathos in protests, showing that emotions are the driving force in starting many protests, the use of pathos is essential if the protest wishes to grow and gather a following, and that relying on simply pathos and emotions will lead to the failure of the protest without... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout the play, Sophocles presents the great power pathos has on swaying the minds of people, and the great importance it has in allowing a protest to flourish. When looking at the chorus, it is clear the necessity pathos has in convincing others to join your side. When Antigone is sentenced to death, the chorus says, In all her lovely strength she traded the light of day for the bolted brazen vault buried within her tomb, her bridal chamber, wed to the yoke and broken. But she was of glorious birth my child, my child (l.1036 1040). The positive light that the chorus shines onto Antigone, is a stark contrast to how they portrayed Antigone as a wretched child in the beginning. The reason for this sudden change is evident when the chorus mentions Antigone s current dire situation. By apealing to the people s emotions through her actions of being sentenced to death, Antigone suceeds in gaining support that she would not have had without the use of pathos. A modern example of the use of pathos being vital in drawing people in to a protest could be seen throught the Civil Rights Movement led by Maritn Luther King Jr. His use of pathos shines through in his Letter from Birmingham Jail , where he writes, As you seek to explain to your six year old daughter why she can t go to the public ... Fortunately, it s possible to take a look at the way many successful people have used personal branding to get a feel for what it is and how it can work for you. Personal branding is something that has been done by a number of well known people. Some of the most well known among them are: * Oprah Winfrey. Think what you will about Oprah s personality, but from the time that she branded her show with her own name and aired a number of her personal struggles in a public way to the time that she launched her magazine, her book club and the talk show careers of Dr. Phil and Rachael Ray, Oprah has remained true to her personal brand. ... • 14. Character Analysis Of Shinji Ikari That all being said, let s discuss each character in further detail to provide better insight as to why their faults are necessary plot devices to tell a larger story (i.e. the central story). Shinji The reserved, self loathing protagonist, Shinji Ikari, epitomizes the introvert personality by concealing his true identity a la the hedgehog s dilemma (first introduced by philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer). Just a brief reminder for anyone who hasn t watched the show for quite some time, as this concept is fundamental in understanding our main character, the premise of this theory goes as follows: forging intimate relationships, despite our best intentions, causes shared emotional pain; therefore, provoking guarded behavior and overall weaker relationships due to the lack of intimacy. This explains Shinji s maladroit encounters with female characters in the show, and his reluctancy to solidify lasting relationships. He has become content to live in the imaginary shell that is his happy place, believing that expressing his true self will cause unintended harm to others and himself. Hideaki Anno, to his credit, overlaid his permeating depression into a fourteen year old character, that, for the most part, comes through as feeling authentic. This is not your prototypical action hero who possesses an indomitable will to overcome any, and all challenges; rather, Shinji, on countless occasions, shows signs of regression, a trait that is synonymous with the human condition. Gullivers Supposed English Superiority Essay Gullivers Supposed English Superiority Gulliver s typical Anglocentric Enlightenment views are best exemplified in Chapter 1 of Part IV of Gulliver s Travels. The long paragraph, in which he describes his encounter with the Yahoos as well as the circumstances leading up to it, illustrates the climax of his Anglocentric views, after which his English pride begins to gradually degenerate and his desire to emulate the Houyhnyms arises. His English pride in this paragraph is demonstrated by his resolution to trade his life with the local Savages using Toys as his only means, his judgment of the Yahoo s lack of comprehensive language ability, and his ever present disgust for bodily functions. As the passage opens,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Due to his sense of Enlightenment superiority, Gulliver does not even entertain the possibility that his life actually is as insignificant as the Toys which he plans on trading for it. Ironically, as his pride degenerates into a hatred for his own race, Gulliver indeed starts to believe in the insignificance of human life. After Gulliver considers his options, he inspects the island and observes a species of animals whom he likens at different points in the paragraph to goats, squirrels, monsters, cattle and beasts. It is no wonder then, that later when Gulliver reveals that these creatures are human beings, that his reader is surprised. He describes their shapes as Singular and deformed....their Skins were of a brown Buff colour. Perhaps one reason Gulliver does not initially see any resemblance between himself and the Yahoos is because they are not white; perhaps his Anglocentric ideal does not permit any color but white to be acknowledged as his equal. What seems certain, however, is the fact that Gulliver feels an immediate antipathy to the Yahoos because they show no indication of having a rational language. In watching them, he does not see them speak to each other and this alienates him because as we see in each voyage, it is imperative to Gulliver that he learn the language of the peoples he encounters, from the Lilliputians to the Brobdingnagians. • 18. Essay about The Symbol of the Heart in The Floating Opera The Symbol of the Heart in The Floating Opera The heart is the dominant symbol in The Floating Opera, more important even than the symbol of the showboat of the novel s title. From beginning to end the book is richly populated by references to the heart on both a literal, physical level, and a figurative, symbolic one. In the first case, literal references are made to Todd s heart condition. In the second case, the heart plays two symbolic roles; not only does it serve as a symbol of Todd s emotional and non rational side, but the frailty of Todd s heart serves as a correlative for the fragility of all human life. This paper will examine several examples from The Floating Opera that demonstrate this multi levelled usage of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This example is typical of the double nature of the heart in the work. One of the most striking and sustained examples of the heart s dual function is found in the chapter, A raison de coeur . Here Todd explains his reasons for paying his hotel bill and reregistering every day. Todd says, I have an excellent reason for not doing so, but it is a raison de coeur, if I may say so a reason of the heart and not of the head. 4 In one sense, Todd s decision is prompted by the physical reality of his medical circumstance; he writes, Each soft beat my sick heart beat might be my sick heart s last 5, and also: Having begun this sentence, I may not live to write its end ... having poured my drink, I may not live to taste it ... [or it] may pass a live man s tongue to burn a dead man s belly ... having slumbered I may never wake ... having waked, may never living sleep this for thirty five years has been the condition of my existence, the great fact of my life. 6 This is a clear example of the two fold nature of the heart in the book. • 19. Modest Mussorgsky During the first half of the 19th century, opera was in it s golden age. Composers sought to capture drama, emotion, and personalities, creating a closer connection with their audience. With this, they also began to reflect on the concerns of a broad audience; love and loyalty to family and/or nation, women s desire for independence, struggle for freedom, fear of evil. This want to appeal to the population sparked the theme of national identity, which came to be known as Nationalism. Popular music was written down and sold as a commodity, but centered on the performer and the performance, allowing for leeway in the notated music. Folk music was independent of musical notation, being passed on through oral tradition. Overall, these three categories often overlapped. This genetic disorder is known to be an example of the norm of reaction. Since this genetic mutation targeted the genethat encrypts the enzyme phenylalanine hydroxylase, it shows that if a person has one and/or two copies of that certain gene, that person would have the ability to eat and metabolize foods with phenylalanine. But, if a person has two copies of the mutated gene, they wouldn t be able to eat nor metabolize foods with phenylalanine because if a person with PKU were to ingest foods with phenylalanine, the amino acid will accumulate in their body and become highly toxic to the person and the PKU homozygotes will lead to an assortment of detrimental symptoms, which currently occurs in about 1 in 10,000 babies.... Argumentative Essay On Artificial Intelligence Artificial Intelligence is a topic within the public media that has existed for decades, but is now a concern due to the reality of human advancement and innovation in the field of science and technology. Many people believe that computers will become self aware or sentient and view humanity as a disposable resource and gain supremacy. Reasoning that research on the technology should halt and not become more advance. Whereas others believe they will help catapult research and the economy forward, supporting the operations and innovations the technology offers. The complicated and divided solutions to the debate aren t obvious, but there are more benefits to improving artificial intelligence than there is stopping it. Therefore, the negative effects people believe will occur can be resolved. There are different types of artificial intelligence that many institutes and companies believe in. However, they all share the same belief of a self aware, conscious, human like, computer system, the type of AI people fear. Disregarding that an AI is a computer much like a phone or laptop, one must consider that if something is sentient like a person or animal, should they be treated like one? Julie Lythcott Hams Analysis Julie Lythcott Haims exposes a large variety of factors that affect how our parents in ways are not assisting us in preparation towards achieving our success, but instead are harming the pathway of their child s success. Around the beginning of the video, Julie indicates in her book that a more structured childhoodled to less executive function skills. This is something I agree with because parents are the boss of the house, they control everything, but when it comes to students choosing their pathways, parents are building the steps to get there. The student isn t learning to become independent at all. An example of this is my friend who has wealthy parents and using their money, they ve created easy steps for him to reach his career. • 38. The Role Of Blindness In Oedipus The King The word blindness can be used thematically and literally; thematically being someone can be ignorant or oblivious to see the truth or world around them, and in a literal sense it means that a person is physically blind. In Oedipus the King by Sophocles the role of blindness literally and thematically is used to show how the character Oedipus is oblivious to see the truth in his life is like Donald Trump, America s forty fifth president, on his views of climate change. Donald Trump is blinded by the fact that climate change is a real problem and in his mind the crazy weather is just the weather itself acting up. The author, Sophocles, of the play Oedipus the King, portrays the word blindness in two ironic ways. Though before the reader learns about this they must understand the purpose of why Sophocles used blindness , the author is trying to teach his audience to see clearly more around them, rather than being ignorant around the world that is around them. Oedipus, the main focus of the play, is seen blind in an important part of the play, when his wife, Jocasta, or later to be found out as his mom, finds out that the person she married is her son, and that she had, had children with him, so in the end she hangs herself, his wife was blind at the start just like her son, but now she sees that the fate of Oedipus was to come true. In summation of Oedipus fate that the ancient Greeks believed in very well, once Oedipus was born his fate in his life was to kill ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Throughout this paper, I will discuss the various methods and the factors that contribute to the outcomes of each one. The context of this paper will be discussed in the manners of both the positive and negative aspects of each method. With each method, I will also explain the factors that significantly influence the price of each method used. Currently, Cenovus is trading on the Toronto StockExchange at a value of $17.83. One of the key aspects that I will acknowledge is that they currently have a long term growth value of 108% and their target price is $18.55. Other factors can be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is one of the most significant downfalls of this method, because you can greatly misprice the value of the firm without considering the cash flows as well as other variables. Another common valuation method that one may use is the EV/EBITDA ratio method. This specific method takes into consideration the value of EBITDA as well as the value of net debt (market value of debt). Another important consideration that investors must be aware of is the type of depreciation method that Cenovus uses. Since Cenovus is a large asset company, this is a vital aspect to consider when using the book value method. If Cenovus depreciates their assets at a faster pace, this will allow investors to part take in a valuable investment and would cause for a positive pick for their portfolio. However, if the company depreciates their asset in a slower manner, this could create a higher book price than what the stock is currently trading at. This may misrepresent the value of the firm to the investor. Investors should be cautious when considering this type of method for valuing companies. Therefore, investors should do thorough research in what type of depreciation method Cenovus uses. The methods include a straight line depreciation or a double declining method. Both have a significant impact on the share price of the firm when using the book value approach. One common method within the industry ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. The Christian Faith One of the foundations of the Christian faith is the belief that God is actively working in His creation. God did not create the world and leave it to its own fate. Instead, God is still actively involved in every part of His creation today. This belief is crucial for the Christian scientists in today s world. Ones who study cells and molecules can discover how astounding and detailed God, the Creator, is with this belief in mind. God is working through his seen and unseen creation. In the tiniest cell, God s workmanship can be displayed. God made each cell to have a specific purpose towards the human body or the plant. Cells and molecules are the work of an intelligent designer and are not random chances. Without God, cells could not accomplish their purpose. God places every geneon DNAand makes the cells come together to form a human. For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother s womb (Psalm 139:13, NIV). Through cells and molecules, God creates each unique person on His earth. When a Christian scientist knows God is at work in His creation, they can have a new perspective of cells. They will see cells as the design of God instead of results of randomness. Once they observe and study cells, they can learn more about God. They can learn how detail oriented and omniscient He is. God is in control not only of the seen world, but also the world we can only see under the microscope! Each cell and molecule are shaped a specific way to carry out a ... Another clear reference to gender equality and the lack of it as well as a comment on class roles. Here Bronte shows the absurdity of gender restriction and attempts to shed light on the fact that women during the Victorian era had no rights and were too restricted. Ferndean 1. • 43. The Life Of Reason By George Santayana Here s an experiment for you. Ask the next 10 people you meet about what comes to mind when they think of the word disaster. I did, and you ll probably get answers similar to the ones that I received: war, hurricane, earthquake, etc. Not a single person got anywhere close to housing crisis, and unless you work at a mortgagelender or economic think tank, you re probably not going to get that answer either. This is despite the fact that anybody on the receiving end of that question has probably not experienced a severe earthquake or hurricane, yet has felt the impact of the 2008 housing bubble simply by being a participant in the economy. In The Life of Reason, novelist George Santayana wrote the now famous phrase, those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. That holds true for housing crises, specifically the one in 2008. Less than a decade after the world economy nearly collapsed, the vast majority of us still don t understand what happened or why it happened. Some of us do know, but choose not to care. Both are equally dangerous. Housing crises are avoidable. They are borne out of lapses in judgment from three main groups: lenders that do not make responsible lending decisions, buyers that do not make responsible buying decisions, and governments that do not make responsible legislation to govern either of the former parties. Each of them needs to be addressed in order to avoid repeating a sordid, destructive past. BANKS: MANAGE RISK Lenders, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was the eve of our wedding and Bella and I were lying in her narrow bed together, as was our habit. Though it was August, she was wrapped in her usual swaddling blanket, a protection against the chill of my skin. The bulky afghan did not prevent Bella s hands from wandering about, exploring the unclothed parts of my body. If she had her way, both of us would be even less clothed. I found shirtless to be challenge enough. With Bella s fingers probing the outlines of each muscle and bone above my waistband, her lips on mine, I was both awash in pleasure and sinking into concern. Relax, I heard Jasper reply to Bella. We Cullens have our own version. Just a few mountain lions, a couple of grizzly bears. Pretty much an ordinary night out. Jasper had told Bella the truth. We would be celebrating our boys night out with a hunt. I didn t need the blood at the moment, but it was still a good idea. If I fed now, then I wouldn t have to leave Bella to hunt for the first two weeks of our honeymoon. Besides, I only had one more day to remain chaste until Bella and I were married. The distinctiveness of style and language represented in the poem are what identify the sorrowful and aggressive tone. From the opening of the poem we learn that the onion is pleading with someone to stop cutting him into pieces. The onion says I don t mean to make you cry. /I mean nothing, but this has not kept you/ From peeling away my body. (lines 1 3) The attitude being presented is sorrowful. Pity is being expressed by the onion because it notices itself as being the reason why the person addressed is crying. At the same time, the person could be crying to get the onions attention and win the onions sympathy. Based on the context, the onion seems to represent a male who s fed up with the way he has been treated and the person he s addressing seems to be a female who s hurting and seeking some kind of truth. They are in a dreadful relationship and the voice presented in the poem acts as a response to the previous conversation the two had before the onion spoke. Because the onion feels as though he is responsible for the persons tear s, he s reassuring himself and her that he means no harm. The choice of words in lines 5 6 demonstrate the sorrowful tone I speak of, uttered by the onion. He says all the debris of pursuit./Poor deluded human: you seek my heart. (lines 5 6) In these lines, I see the onion as thinking he is above the human. Like a father looking down on his son, shaking his head, accentuating that he has so much to learn. ... • 47. Theme Of Women In A Gun For Sale By Graham Greene Graham Greene has written many novels in his life and has placed his experiences within his stories. Graham Greene s beliefs come across in his books and lay out his views on society. Greene did not shy away from using tropes in his book, and usually, these literary tropes included the women of his novel. Two of his books A Gun for Sale and Brighton Rock leave Greene s female counterparts feeling unsatisfied with the characterization of the female leads in his stories, for they appear to only influence the novel through acting as a plot device. From the surface, Greene s female characters only fulfill the purpose of the innocent or right half of the relationships, while the men in the novels heavily identify with corruption and evil. Greene utilizes the theme of innocence versus corruption, to develop the characterization and relationships of the main characters in A Gun for Sale, as well as Brighton Rock, through this lens it is clear to see how Greene relates the corruption of the male characters to Greene s idea of anarchism. Innocence and corruption, two different themes that work exceptionally well together to showcase the difference in characters. An important thing to know is what do these words mean? If innocence means those who are free from guilt or sin through being unacquainted with evil, then none of the characters in Greene s novels would ever be considered innocent because they all at one point or throughout the entire story are acquainted with evil.
