WAT Utilitarianism
OBESITY AND WAT METABOLISM
Overview of WAT It was previous thought that WAT is only an energy storage facility. Research
has also shown that WAT aids in the homeostasis of lipids and provides a buffering system
postprandial. Postprandial, adipocytes uptake fatty acids while suppressing the release of non
esterified fatty acids into circulation. This action becomes extremely important when buffering no
longer takes place due to storage limits of the adipocytes. The following elevated concentrations of
triglycerides, fatty acids and inappropriate location storage, including liver, skeletal muscle and
pancreatic beta cells leading to metabolic complications (Frayn 2002, Virtue and Vidal Puig 2008).
Endocrine organ Research has shown that WAT has endocrine capabilities, including, secreting a
number of protein hormones and signals known as adipokines. There is evidence that shows that
adipose tissue will secrete more than 50 different hormones and signaling ... Show more content on

1994). Leptin is secreted primarily by adipocytes, proportionally to fat cell mass, and contributes to
energy metabolism. Leptin will affect the energy balance by acting on the brain. Leptin can activate,
directly or indirectly, specific centers in the hypothalamus to decrease food intake, to increase any
energy expenditure, to influence the glucose, lipid metabolism, and alter neuroendocrine function
(Campfield, Smith et al. 1995). Leptin resistance, in regards to obesity, was coined due to the
increased leptin levels with no impact on regulating energy homeostasis. Leptin resistance causes
insulin resistance and the accumulation of lipids is a direct result of the reduction of lipid oxidation
in insulin sensitive organs; shown in preclinical and clinical experiments with obese rodents and
humans. However, the mechanisms that may lead to leptin resistance are still being researched

High School Education in India
EDUCATION SYSTEM IN INDIA HIGH SCHOOL
In India, high school is a grade of education which includes Standards VII to X. Standards XI to XII
called as Higher Secondary School or Senior Secondary School or Junior college. Some states refer
to Standards IX and X as High School, while XI and XII are termed as Intermediate. Other states
refer to VI, VII, VIII, IX and X (grades 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10) as Secondary school and XI and XII

Now we produce mainly technicians, not scientists or technocrats and feel proud to export such
raw materials to manpower starved developed countries ( be it IT or BT, the two main pillars of
Indian economy today). This might lead to some degree of prosperity in the short term but we are
going to loose in a big way in the long run unless we totally overhaul our basic education system at
primary and high school level. It s useless to cut the roots and then water on the top.

Surveillance And The Threat Of Terrorism
Surveillance
Over the decades, as technology advanced, surveillance became easier and easier. In the 21st
century, people live in the world of ubiquitous surveillance, where everything becomes collected,
saved, searched, correlated and analyzed. Surveillance generally means to keep close watch over
someone or something. While a root word in surveillance is veil, which portrays imagery as saving
face, or hiding. The U.S. National Security Agency (NSA) and other federal agencies are engaging
in the extensive surveillance to fight crime and reduce the threat of terrorism. Not only does
surveillance fight crime, it proves the honesty and humility of people in the work office or on the
streets. However, surveillance threatens privacy and liberty because it monitors individuals,
meaning that certain information may not be kept secret. This frightens countless people because
the thought of being watched sparks a controversy of the 4th amendment of the constitution. The
4th amendment protects the right against unreasonable searches and seizures. Surveillance
challenges the privacy and liberty of individuals; nevertheless, it upholds the protection and
security of citizens from terrorism and crime. The main purpose of surveillance systems is to
monitor events from a remote or secret location. The capabilities of domestic surveillance expanded
rapidly in recent years due to the equally rapid spread of new technologies that facilitate information
gathering. However, many of the

The General Overhead And Construction Projects Essay
In the past, the general overhead in construction projects was not important compared to project
costs. However, with the new construction environment and its changes such as the high usage of
lean, BIM, and LEED, everything has changed. Nowadays, most of the construction contractors are
measuring their general overhead costsand trying to control it. To gain profits, they started to
allocate their general overhead costs to different construction projects they are working on. In this
paper, we investigate how a construction company (general contractor) manages its general
overhead costs. Preceding this stage, we should provide few definitions of the general overhead
costs in order to give readers a deep insight of what this paper is about. Moreover, it is essential to
explain how construction contractors allocate their general overhead costs to construction projects,
what methods they tend to use for allocating, and what advantages and disadvantages does every
method have. Further, we shift our focus to activity based costing method by defining it and
describing its steps. Since the main purpose of this paper is to examine how construction
contractors deal with their general overhead costs, an interview should be conducted to know how
contractors allocate general overhead costto construction projects to get profits. Indeed, each
construction contractor may use a specific method when allocating. Due to our interest in
estimating, the interview was conducted with a senior

Reaction Paper On Anger
Anger is a common reaction that can aid individuals in relieving stress, and expressing emotions.
Experiencing anger is normal, and at times, the appropriate response. When accomplished
appropriately, anger can be an important tool used by a healthy adult. But anger has risks, perhaps
more than any other emotion, it can isolate people from other adults and lead individuals to engage
in behavior they may later regret. Angercan be manifested through a variety of ways, including
physical violence, verbal profanity and internal frustrations. Anger can be the result of sadness,
fear, or an overall inability to effectively cope with the struggles of everyday life. Writer had the
experience of interacting with a client, TR, who was in the middle of an anger outburst, due to
behavior of a staff member.
Writer had met with TR a few times prior to this incident, a rapport had been built and TR felt
comfortable enough to approach writer. When approached by TR, writer used facilitative skills to
notice body language. TR s teeth were clenched, his hands were clenched in a fist and his tone was
loud and sharp. TR was upset with how a staff member treated another client. Taking knowledge of
defense mechanisms into account writer was able to surmise that this anger was an example of
displacement from one staff member to another. In Freudian psychology, displacement is the
redirection of an impulse, usually aggression, onto a powerless substitute target. The target can be a
person or an

The First Years Of My Life
For the first fifteen years of my life, I never referred to myself as a firm believer in love at first
sight. People often tossed around the word love like it was nothing, but I knew that I had never
truly been in love before. This all changed about a month before my sixteenth birthday when I fell
in love with the windy city. In May of 2015, the band took a four day trip to Chicago. I was thrilled
for the excursion because I had only traveled outside of Kansas a few times. Those vacations
were to the beach, which is nothing like the bustling metropolis of Chicago. I had never truly
experienced the city life before, so I was beyond ready for this new adventure. When I arrived to
Chicago, I expected to see sights that were familiar to me, like in Kansas City. Hundreds of
people traveling in different directions, towering skyscrapers, and shops were all around the city.
When we were just a few miles outside from Chicago, I could see the whole skyline in the
distance. I was completely fascinated by the hundreds of skyscrapers that lined the city, and the
sunrise that turned the sky different shades of orange, yellow, and pink. The views that I
encountered while first entering Chicago were breathtaking. Throughout the whole trip, I
experienced multiple new sights, smells, and sounds. As the trip came to an end, I realized that I
had developed a true love for the natural and urban beauty of Chicago, and that I eventually want
to call this place home in a few years.

The Road Survival
The Man and Boy Face Life or Death
Think about living in an empty world, America that has never been seen before: a charcoal
colored buildings, ashes spread across the Earth with the dark, cold sky draping above the trees.
This is the environment that the man and the boy must experience everyday on their prolonged
journey to reach their goal: traveling to the coast where they believe there will be warmer climate
and possible settlers. The boy and the man wonder if struggling to stay alive is really going to be
worth anything. It is worth the man and the boy to fight for survival because they find many
reasons to live. The man thinks survival is important for him and the boy because they believe
there is life on Earth that they can find. In the book, The Road, the man ... Show more content on

The boy and man find motivation while traveling toward the coast. They have been through
scarce moments when they are fighting for their lives. For the man and the boy, every single
day is a fight for survival. The man s will for survival is constant, although he is unable to justify
it or explain where it comes from. Before his wife takes her own life he begs her not to do it, but
she argues that they have no reason to continue living. . (Road) The man has an unexplainable
will to stay alive for as long as he can, even as he starts to physically deteriorate. The man finds
motivation to stay alive by displaying his love and care toward the boy. Cormac McCarthy s novel
The Road stages the same problem of belief from the inside, but The Road is unique in locating
the basis for meaning in the father s love for his son, and even suggesting that this meaning
transcends the father s efforts to affirm and protect his son s life. . (Schaub)

The Theme Of Life In Dante s Inferno
After reading Dante s Divine Comedy or Dante s Inferno by Dante Alighieri, it would appear
that this is a story about a man describing how his exile is leading him towards hell. At the
beginning of the story, Dante starts out by saying, In the middle of the journey of our life I
found myself within a dark woods where the straight way was lost (page 27). The reader will
assume that this story is about Dante explaining his views of hell separated into nine circles.
Alighieri s writings gave context relating to his life from his exile to his beloved.
The story Dante s Inferno is about a man s journey through hell. The main character, Dante, has
just been exiled from his home and is now trying to find the right road. The significance of the
beginning is the religious aspect of Dante s adventure of leaving to another realm. In my
opinion, the straight way is through faith in God. The dark woods represents sins and fear in
God. He was lost in sin and he sets out to look for God in a sinful world. The Guelph Ghibelline
Wars was a struggle between the papacy and the holy roman empire. There was a split, which
created two factions in the Guelphs. One was a white faction, which supported independence from
the Pope. The other was the black, whose people were willing to work with the Pope. Alighieri was
fighting with for white faction. Those against the Pope, including Dante, were exiled from the
Italian Peninsula. Dante felt lost in the world and wanted to find confidence in God

Mirandan V Confessions
If an officer does not read a defendant s rights to him or her prior to obtaining a confession, then
it is possible that the given statement could be inadmissible in court. There is nothing than can
be done if felon waives his rights, and if a statement has to be given within a six hour time frame
upon incarceration. In Miranda v. Arizona (1966), when a person is in confinement, he or she has
be informed of their privileges. Suspects are to be told that they need to not say anything due to
the fact that their confessions may be useful to indicate their fault when it comes time for their
trial. It is up to the suspects to determine if they want an attorney; furthermore, one can be
provided if a felon cannot afford one. There are repercussions when an officer fails to read a
suspect his or her rights. It just depends on the circumstances when the confession took place. If an
offender voluntarily admits to anything before his or her rights were read, there is nothing that can
be done to the officer. The United States (U.S.) Supreme Court acknowledged statements may be
much more questionable when they are trusted when getting a confession (Hall, 2015). Hall (2015)
states, The Court stated, in Esobedo v. Illinois (1964), that a system of criminal law enforcement
which comes to depend on the confession will, in the long run, be less reliable and more subject to
abuse than a system which depends on extrinsic evidence independently obtained through other law
enforcement

YOUTH UNEMPLOYMENT AND IMPLICATION FOR POLITICAL STABILITY IN NIGERIA

YOUTH UNEMPLOYMENT AND IMPLICATION FOR POLITICAL STABILITY IN NIGERIA
(1999 2011)
CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
BACKGROUND TO THE STUDY
In Nigeria, civil rule has been restored for over a decades ago, which has given people so much
hopes and expectations for political stability to enjoy the value of democratic rule. For instance, it
is assumed that with democracy, people would be free to choose their leaders and representatives
and hold them accountable for the overall objective of fast tracking development and improving the
general living conditions of the masses. This expectation is not misplaced considering that ... Show

The resulting effect is the large number of job seekers who have no place in the oil industry. Even
with the expansion of the industry, unemployment has continued to grow at an alarming rate.
The poor economic enabling environment that characterizes the economy over the years has
continued to pose serious challenges to employment generation in Nigeria. This, coupled with poor
security environment has continued to hamper investment drives and thereby reducing the
prospects of employment generation. Many job seekers who would have embarked on self
employment programs are unable to so because of the hostile production environment. Others who
make attempt are forced to wind up due to absence of infrastructures and the overall heat of the
investment environment.
The consequences of unemployment in Nigeria are very severe and threatening to the citizenry and
the economy as a whole. The unemployment episode has continued to pose so many challenges to
the survival of the Nigerian nation. While some of these consequences bother directly on the
unemployed, others like epidemics are limitless in effects. All these anomalies will be examined in
the subsequent chapters of this research work.
1.3. Objective of the Study
The primary objective of this research work is to look at the socio economic effect of youth
unemployment on the Nigeria society.
Specifically, the research seeks to:
1.To examine the implications of youth

Analysis Of The Book The Fairytale
Because I closely follow Hallmark actors, writers, producers, directors, etc., I do my best to
apprise myself of the new kids in town. When I disocoverd that Ella Fairlie wrote the book upon
which The Christmas List was based, I knew I had to contact her at once for an interview.
Previously, I was not even aware of her existence, but Ella had been observing my interviews, and
she agreed immediately to answer a few questions about how she got started as a writer and the
fairytale story of her first book becoming an instant Hallmark classic. (Yes, that is my opinion, but
the feedback from this film is that this was the funniest of the Countdown to Christmasmovies so far
in 2016. And who couldn t loveAlica Witt and Gabriel Hogan?)

The Habib s Child Care Center
Executive Summary
This report is about the business I have come up with which includes key elements of my
business idea. The Habib s Child Care Center PTY is a full service child care that cares for
toddlers from age two to four. Through focused training of the support staff and advanced learning
systems, The Habib s child care center is upper hand in terms of child development. This program,
joined with a custom designed center and a low teacher/student ratio ensures a great service for the
children and the parents.
Introduction
I have come up with a new small business based in Australia. This small business is a Child care
center named Habib s Child Care Center located in Burwood. It is a suburb in the Inner West of
Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. It is 12 kilometers west of the Sydney central
business district which makes it perfect for someone to start up a child care center and is the
administrative center for the local government area of Burwood Council.
Business structure legal considerations
a day care operation s Business structure may not be willingly visible, but it is there in the
arrangement of activities, staffing and careful adherence to child care regulations. Business
structure provides the framework for carrying out the work of the day care. Child care laws and
regulations provide little room for many differences in the business structures of for profit and
nonprofit day care centers. The business structure chosen that best

Citizens United for Arguments
PRO
Resolved: On balance, the Supreme Court decision in Citizens United v. Federal Election
Commission is undemocratic.
We affirm.
To better the round, we clarify the following:
First, the definition of election process
ELECTIONS are based on three organizing concepts: equal respect, free choice, and popular
sovereignty are the building blocks of fair and just elections. The democratic process should treat
all citizens as free and equal persons. As applied to the electoral process this requires that each
citizen equal opportunity to have his or her vote equally counted.
Contention 1: Super PACs decrease voter turnout

3. Citizens United increases political polarization
A. Increased levels of political spending increase polarization
In the 2012 Presidential election, the majority of outside spending was a result of the Citizens
United decision1. The unique increase of money translated into an increase in television ads, radio
ads, and direct mailings. Unfortunately, the large increase in political rhetoric caused a move to
political extremes rivaling those at the end of the Civil War2. It explains that micro targeting of
advertising allowed corporations and Super PACS to create echo chambers, where only points of
view in agreement with the audience were expressed. Polarization was an issue before the Citizens
United ruling, but the unique increase in rhetoric caused the worst polarization in 120 years.
B. Polarization causes increasing amounts of low information voters
Increased shifts to the political extremes causes voters to vote in lockstep with party leaders.
Polarized voters are less informed on energy, healthcare, education, and other key issues4. Polarized
voters also ignore fundamental arguments in favor of partisanship. When told that their party
endorsed a certain stance, the polarized voters became more supportive, regardless of facts.
Because the election process requires

Influence Of Enlightenment On The American Revolution
The ideas of the Enlightenment influenced the American Revolution and the formation of the
American Government in several different ways. The Enlightenment period initiated several new
ideas about freedoms and rights. These ideas were discussed in meetings called salons in France,
where they discussed new ideas. There were many influential philosophers from the enlightenment
periods, Thomas Hobbes, Montesquieu, Adam Smith, Voltaire, John Locke, and Rousseau. Thomas
Hobbes believed that all people were naturally selfish and needed a strong government like an
absolute monarchy to remain in control. Montesquieu supported the separation of powers and a
system of checks and balances in government. Adam Smith believed that governments... Show more

It was our fight to become independent and free. The Enlightenment thinker Adam Smith believed
that the government should not interfere with a free market economy. Many of the colonists
believed the same, so they dressed up as Native Americans and dumped imported tea from a ship
into the Boston Harbour to protest against the Tea Act. The Tea Act heavily impacted the colonists
taxes, which is what the colonists were fighting over. This shows that the Enlightenment influenced
the American Revolution because the Enlightenment thinker Adam Smith caused the colonists to
revolt against Britain s oppression. Another important Enlightenment thinker, John Locke, also
inspired the colonists to revolt because he believed that people were able to revolt when their
government was not protecting the natural rights of the people. Since the colonists didn t like what
was happening to the controlling government, they revolted because of John Locke. Finally,
Voltaire believed in freedom of speech and expression, meaning that he thought anyone could
protest or say what they believed. The colonists were very impacted by this belief, as it inspired
them to speak out against the king and revolt. All in all, the American colonists were heavily
influenced by the Enlightenment thinkers because they took the new ideas and applied them,
causing them to revolt against Britain to gain independence, starting the American

does Cuba have a bit of an indecisive economy their economy also seeks reliability from other
countries such as the Soviet Union along with Venezuela. For three decades Cuba stayed
dependent on the annual subsidies delivered by the Soviet Union. When all subsidies ceased from
the Soviet Union in 1991 Cuba s economy plummeted. Then history later repeated itself with
Venezuela as their economy fell and left Cuba s economy once again in laboriously hard times

The Civil War Of Independence
1750 marked a reconstruction era for the world. Also 1750 1850 was heavily focused on people
s rights. Some of the main bills were the Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen, The
Bill of Rights, Haitian Republic Constitution Of 1801, and Olympe de Gouge: Declaration of the

violent, a war soon broke out. A new government system was created as they fought. Woman and
slaves fought in the war under false accusations of freedom. Once the American Revolution/ the
American War of Independence was finished (1775 83), a great portion of colonists started to

Analysis Of The Celebrated Jumping Frog From Calaveras County
Is Mark Twain trying to be funny by the contrasting cultures or is there something deeper?
Samuel Langhorne Clemens, a famous author and publisher who is mostly known by his pen

Paul Keating wanted a national approach to issuing native title for the greater guarantee of justice
ad equity this was because he believed that the states could not be trusted I this matter. It was
proposed that the commonwealth run a system that dictates the allocation of Native title in Australia.
Richard court, the premier of Western Australia at the time was against the Native title act as he
was afraid that because most of Western Australia has underdeveloped land that most of it will be
recognised under native title and given to the indigenous Australians. Richard court s government
attempted to extinguish all native title in the state, this act was found to be inconsistent with racial
discrimination act and thus it was abolished.
Representatives of indigenous and Torres straight islanders were hoping to get protection for land
under native title act to not be extinguished, to actually get their land and to have the
commonwealth issue the native land.
The Mabo case also had a big impact on Australia, and in the end Australia enshrined Native Title
in legislation and as a result 17% of Australia is now currently under Native

The Prince And The Cobbler John Locke Summary
Reflection Journal #9 In the article, The Prince and the Cobbler, John Locke distinguishes
between what it means to be a man and what it means to be a person. Locke then goes on to say
that for a man to be the same man over time, it is necessary for that man s body to persist over
time. Locke also says that out conception of a person involves perception and consciousnessand that
without some connection between current consciousness and past consciousness, a person cannot
be the same. This connection creates a problem for Locke because there are no flows of continuous
consciousness. People forget and people become unconscious. Does that mean that they aren t
themselves anymore? Locke defends his argument by saying that consciousness doesn t

Social Medi The Global Phenomenon That It Is Today
Introduction Social media is currently a worldwide entertainments and social platform that
dominates the majority of today s society. Social media websites such as MySpace and LinkedIn
exploded in popularity in early 2000 and started people s obsession with such sites (Hendricks:
2013). Although these social media sites still exist, amongst many others, Facebook continues to
dominate the global social platform rankings with more than 1.5 billion active accounts (Kemp:

encompassing the 1st to 12th grade.
Occasion: Indian misconceptions, mistreatments, stereotypes, and discriminations all affected
Alexie on his educational highway and served as a basis for the writing of Indian Education .
Audience: Alexie s audience is primarily those interested in the lifestyle of Native Americans.
Purpose: Alexie highlights how he ultimately overcame the hardships suffered during his early

2. The brief conclusions all serve to indicate cold, harsh, and impactful conclusions to his yearly
cycle which further emphasize the schism between school years. Some of the conclusions serve
different functions, though. For example, when he ends his third grade segment with I m still
waiting. it is short and impactful; but, when he ends the fifth grade segment with a rhetorical
question Oh, do you remember those sweet, almost innocent choices that the Indian boys were
forced to make? the segment seems to linger on for a moment longer, portraying that the event had
a stronger impression than the previous, shorter conclusion.
3. The thematic transition in the seventh grade segment occurs when he kisses the white girl, and
almost as if he betrays his tribe, is sent away to a farm town. Through the seventh grade transition,
the theme transcends from social outcast and discrimination to somewhat unconscious
discrimination but social acceptance. Prior to the seventh grade segment, he is explicitly mistreated
and bullied, alienated from society. After the seventh grade though, at the farm town, he doesn t
display any direct discrimination, everything he relates and portrays as discrimination is completely
indirect and taken as such.

seventh grade affected his outcome. The effect this image shows is that the author had to alienate

Research Paper On Ad Hominem Fallacy
Ad Hominem
Ad Hominem comes from latin and means against the man , is a common fallacy that it is used to
attack the person rather than their argument. It is a lazy and easy way to put down your opponent
with poor reasoning and bad logic. It plays with people s emotion. The attack can be true, but has
no relevance to the claims of the argument and can bias the audience. Ad Hominem fallacies are
often used in politics, media and court.
One famous Ad Hominem fallacy was when President Clinton s infidelity and lies were used to
attack decisions he made as President. Although having been unfaithful and lying about it, it did
not necessarily impact on his work as President. In this case his private life had no bearing on his
professional activities. Ad Hominem abusive fallacy was used to point out character flaws or
actions (it can even involve insults) in order to discredit his status and work. Also perpetrators
appeal to Ad Hominem abusive fallacy to exonerate themselves of their crimes. For instance,
during a recent interview, one of the six perpetrators from the 2012 Delhi gang rape case, blamed
his victim s demeanour being immoral and provocative. Therefore, he claimed that he ... Show more

A fallacy is committed when the person is not qualified or is not recognised to be a legitimate
authority on the specific subject of the argument. For instance, in commercial advertisements,
celebrities who promote products for their qualities and effectiveness are not qualified in the field
of the specific product (eg. beauty products, dietary medication, cars). The facts could be true, but
as the claim is supported on the basis that an unqualified authority or a non expert body said so, it
makes the argument difficult to believe. However the Appeal to Authority fallacy is quite common
as people have a tendency to believe in authority and experts, which can make a claim

The Growth Of American Individuality
The Growth of American Individuality in Relation to Self Expression Religion is an imperfect
savior. Primitive civilizations depended on religion to explain the workings of the world; they
depended on gods to protect their crops and homes from disease, drought, and other disasters far
out of human control. While this dependency provided comfort, it sacrificed individuality. Recent
years has seen the rise of alternative forms of media: novels, digital music, movies. These were
not available to previous civilizations. Early Americans only had access to the Bible, which was
unreadable to the average illiterate. Newer forms of media have spurned a nation wide reflection
on the old traditions that were largely set by religion. Ever since the founding of the colonies, and
ever since more diverse forms of self expression have become more accessible, Americans have
grown in individuality as they have become less dependent on religion. The Puritans were the first
of the Europeans to settle in the Americas. While their traditions have left a profound mark on
American culture, their strict ways are rather peculiar. In The Crucible, Arthur Miller critiques
Puritan society as close minded and obsessed about maintaining conformity. The parochial snobbery
of these people was partly responsible for their failure to convert the Indians. Probably they also
preferred to take land from heathens rather than from fellow Christians (140). The Puritans revolved
their culture around religion,

Bullying In The Real World
Imagine that you are in school, walking down the hallway and see a bunch of guys bullying and
harassing another kid. Do you go defend the kid or do you stay a bystander like all the other
people you are surrounded by? Most kids just walk by thinking that if they don t stop it they re
preventing bullying, but it s just making the problem worse. People need to how to speak up from
bullies, and how to speak up for others who are being bullied. A reason why bullyingstill happens is
because the person who gets bullied doesn t tell anyone because they are too scared about what
the bully would do to them if the find out, or they think that they cannot get help from anyone
else. The bullies think it will make them popular or they do it to make them feel superior to other
students. Another reason it still happens is because people who witness bullying happening never
tell anyone they re just by standers. In the age of technology a new form of bullying has arisen,
cyberbullying, where people can bully other and keep their identities a secret. They do it either for
fun or many of the main reasons why people bully in the real world do it. Bullies don t think about

The Threat, Responsibility, and Solutions to Climate Change and Global Warming
If the Maldives cannot be saved today we do not feel that there is much of a chance for the rest of
the world. said Former President of the Maldives, Mohamed Nasheed, while sitting underwater
signing a document calling for global reduction in carbon emissions. He is right, if we do not start
improving the climate right now, our world will soon be under water like the lowest nation, the
Maldives which is predicted to be submerged by 2085. This paper will focus on four questions:
Why climate change, or global warming, is real? Why do human beings take major responsibility
for it? Why is it a top priority of every nation? And why can we believe that together you and I are
able to tackle it?
Despite numerous irrefutable evidence, many people including scientists, experts, and politicians
still deny the existence and urgency of climate change as well as human responsibility for the
problem. In their opinions, climate change is no more than a hoax of scientists and
climatologists. In a 2014 survey, a senior writer at The Huffington Post, Carolyn Gregoire
concluded 23 percent of Americans said they did not believe in global warming, and 53 percent
said it was not human caused. President elect Donald Trump who is among the global warming
denials, wrote on his Twitter the concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in

don t we have a strong secondary manufacturing sector in Northern Ontario? Where do we start? A
good start would be to do a study and inventory of all our natural advantages like our land, stone,
sand and gravel, water, energy like natural gas, electrical power supply available. Natural resources

Essay on Consciousness As Determined Th
Consciousness is understood in a variety of ways. In one belief, a person is conscious when awake,
but unconscious when sleeping or comatose. Yet people also do things requiring perception and
thought unconsciously even when they are awake. A person can be conscious of their physical
surroundings, pain and even a wish or fantasy. In short a creatureis conscious if it is aware of itself
and that it is a physical and emotional being. Consciousnessis a psychological condition defined by
the English philosopher John Locke as quot;the perception of what passes in a man s own mind
quot;.1
Consciousness is defined and perceived differently in many psychological view points. For instance
the earlier views around ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They held that consciousness was involved with every working mental state. In this view the mind
is transparent to itself that is, it can perceive it s own activity. For three centuries self transparence
was the defining feature of the mind. That conception was sprung through the theories of Wilhelm
Wundt and Edward Titchener who were advocates off a science of introspection.
Early in the 20th century the transparency doctrine came to a setback for three different reasons.
The first reason was Sigmund Freud s compelling evidence that some very important mental
activity is not only subconscious but firmly resists conscious access through repression. At first
Freud s idea of unconscious was treated as self contradictory, but it has since won acceptance as
being useful and entirely possible.
the second difficulty for the transparency doctrine was that it made the mind impossible for
objective science. What is known introspectively to a single person would be utterly private and
therefore can not be viewed scientifically. Scientific method demands objectivity and reportable
data. The behaviorists John B. Watson and B.F. Skinner and the philosopher Gilbert Ryle rebelled
against the idea of an inner sense and denied the very existence of consciousness in the strong sense
exhibited by Locke, Descartes and the introspective psychologists.3 Ryle insisted that mind is an
illusory concept and that it is

The Importance Of Globalization And Transnational Literatures
Globalization and transnational interconnections between nations economies, the flow of people,
goods, and ideas have sparked a wake of scholarship and ethnographies that seek to record these
rapid changes. Globalization is transforming previously isolated communities into transnational
communities; these interconnections gain the attention of scholars that concentrate on studying the
materialist impact of globalization or immigrationin relation to the binary between developed and
developing nations. However, these scholars tend to lose sight of the people caught up in these
rapid changes and due to the lack of non hegemonic narratives the experiences of multiple
communities are disregarded (Chavez 2013 ). For example, researchers tend to be greatly interested
in the economic roles that migrants play in these transnational exchanges, when this is important, it
is a misfortune that researchers neglect to raise awareness on the sociocultural aspects of these
communities like their complex and dynamic identity journeys and identity formations (Simich
2009). Addressing this lack of concentration on more social aspects of historically underrepresented
communities, authors from these communities use transnational literature as a tool to communicate
their experiences while seeking to generate political consciousness in their audience (Dirlik
2002:355 217).
Furthermore, the historian Arif Dirlik merges into conversation the usage of literature to represent

An Integrated Energy And Environmental Management System...
The manager of an integrated energy and environmental management system is responsible for
allocating carbon emission treatment amount to each carbon emitter within a multi period horizon.
In a regional energy system, there are some limitations for total emission amounts set up by the
emission constraints in certain periods. If carbon emission is larger than the emission target, the
over limit part should be treated by carbon mitigation facilities. In period k, carbon emission
amounts should be no more than the summation of carbon emission permit and the surplus credits
from previous period (k в€’1), in which surplus of emission credits are to be transferable to a
consecutive period (Li et al. 2012). Moreover, carbon emission inventory of different emitters may
vary from each period under the different operating condition, which can be expressed as a random
variable, the study system can be formulated through a MSP approach. Thus, in a MSP model for
carbon emission management system, the objective is to maximize system benefits while satisfying
the total carbon emission requirement. Specifically, the economic objective can be formulated as
follows: пј€1
aпј‰ where are decision variables that are reflected in the objective function and
determined by the capacity of carbon capture measures.

An Analysis Of The Scarlet Letter

In the movie Easy A a cinematic film directed by Will Gluck is a comedy about a girl in high

rumor connects to Nathaniel Hawthorne s the scarlet letter due to the fact that themes are drawn
such as sin and redemption.

This is solely based upon that they happen to be women that sinned not men.
Both Olive and Hester serve as symbols of social disobedience in both eras. Although back then
in 1642 Puritanical Boston the worst crime women could commit was adultery, both women
were no secret to the public about it. Hester is known for being embarked under a public
punishment given by her public society. Olive decides to take a different route in which other
than denying the rumor she embraces her given image, decides to buy and accommodate her
new lingerie clothing with the meaningful red letter A such as Hester herself. By adding red
letter Olive is connecting her life to the readings of The Scarlett Letter all while embracing the
sin of adultery. Olive implements these large Red Letter A s to make a social statement that if
people truly and honestly think she is an adulterer why not own it and have fun with the attention.
She gets this idea based on the novel that she is reading in high school The Scarlett Letter. The
Red Letters A s serve as a purpose to announce to public eye that she committed adultery and sin.
Although back in the sixteen hundred s it was a public punishment, in more modern times olive
Penderghast uses it to make a social statement. Easy A is about how society judges teens for their
sexuality especially girls. Olives exact words I used

have been changed. There is a significant difference with one of the deaths. A few situations are
also changed . Such as the rumble and how the boys enter the hospital to see one of their
friends. The intro and ending of both the book and the movies are different. There are scenes that
weren t added to the movie. The author, S.E Hinton, and the director Francis Ford Coppola
deviated which parts were not as valuable and chose to cut some unimportant scenes.
The difference between how they show Dally s death was not as significant as it was showed in
the book. Dally robbed the store shortly after Johnny died in the hospital. When the rumble was
over Dally and Ponyboy go to see Johnny at the hospital. When they get there the doctor in the book
said that they couldn t see him. In the movie they just go in without threatening the doctor. In the
book Dally threatens the doctor with Two bits switchblade and the doctor said Okay you can see
him, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the book the socs. and the greasers are lined up waiting for someone to step up to begin the
fight. In the movie the way this plays out is that Darry and the socs., that Darry knows, stands
there already to start the fight. Before this happened the reason Ponyboy and Johnny run away
was different. The reason Ponyboy ran in the book was because Darry hit him. Although in the
book Darry pushes him and then Ponyboy runs out of the house to Johnny. Going to after the
church burns when they were riding in the ambulance was the same. Dally s room was the same
when they went to see him. The nurse in the room was heard to be the author of the book. Even
though this movie was very good, the introduction and the ending of the book compared to the
movie it was different, because Ponyboy was writing his book at the end of the book and they put
that in the beginning and the

Antecedents of Cognitive Psychology
Cognitive Psychology Definition and Subject Matter Cognitive psychology is a modern approach
to the study of [processes by which people come to understand the world such processes as
memory, learning, comprehending language, problem solving, and creativity. Cognitive
psychology has been influenced by developments in language, computer science, and of course,
earlier work in philosophy and psychology Hayes (cited by Lundin) This definition of Hayes
emphasizes the notion that cognitive psychology gives significance to the study of higher mental
processes. According to Lichtenstein, among the appealing aspects of cognitive psychology is that
it corresponds quite well to the common sense psychology of the layperson. If a student is... Show

He also agreed with Berkeley that human never experienced the physical directly and can have only
perception of it. He did not deny the existence of physical reality, but he denied the possibility of
knowing it directly. Nativism: Immanuel Kant Immanuel Kant (1724 1804) is much concerned
about the operations of the mind. Though he believed in the existence of the mind, he held a
different view from the empiricists when it comes to the nature and function of the mind. He set
out to prove that Hume was wrong by claiming that some truths were certain and were not based on
subjective experience alone. Kant argued that the very ingredients which are necessary for even
thinking in terms of a causal relationship could not be derived from experience and therefore must
exist a priori, or independent of experience. Though he did not deny the importance of sensory data,
he thought that the mind must add something to that data before knowledge could be attained; that
something was provided by a priori (innate) categories of thought (unity, totality, time, space, cause
and effect, reality, quantity, quality, negation, possibility impossibility, and existence nonexistence).
Kant claimed that the subjective experiences of human has been modified by the pure concepts of
the mind and is therefore more meaningful than it would otherwise have been. Structuralism

Teotihuacan Culture
The culture that I will be talking about is the culture of TeotihuacГЎn from Mexico. Between
100B.C.E and 200 C.E the city grew rapidly, becoming one of the largest cities in Mesoamerica.
From my perspective there are different factors that contributed to the growth of TeotihuacГЎn,
resources, neighbors, trade, religious matters, and economy. This paper will basically focus on the
economy and how it was utilized to form this urban state of TeotihuacГЎn, whether it be the effects
of trade and tribute, goods and services, reciprocity, or corruption it all played a role in the
uprising of this city. TeotihuacГЎn was developed by different reason but I think that its economy
had more influence on its growth and this may explain the development of TeotihuacГЎn.... Show

Teotihuacan now experienced a kind of renewal, probably to accommodate the populations growth
and to keep people at work. (Kurtz 1997, 337)The raw and finished material entering TeotihuacГЎn
and its growing political and economic influence throughout Mesoamerica helped to expand its
economy, enlarging markets, increasing jobs, and developing technology. The completion of the
Ciudadela suggests a centralized political structure. The completion of the political, religious and
market complexes effectively symbolized Teotihuacan s hegemony over a resource zone that
extended from coast to coast. (Ronald 1997, 335) The establishments of these areas around public
building suggest a centralized political system. Some craftsmen engaged in employment by the
elites. This might have been dedicated to the production of exported goods controlled by the elites
and would have complemented the work of craftsmen. It could be said that manufacturing expanded
during this time, and that obsidian was manufactured and exported beyond the basin. I think that
obsidian production was complemented by increase in other work, such as pottery making, painting

Ireland Before The Potato Famine
Q7. In the 1840s, Ireland was faced with a terrible trouble, one that would end up affecting the
lives many. This moment in Ireland s history would be known as the Great Famine. This historic
event would create a massive shortage of food in Ireland. It would affect everything; for example,
some people would starve to death, others would leave the country. The Great Faminewas known as
a hard time in Irelands history. This obviously affect the people s food source and it also decreased
the population by many, the changes within Ireland were drastic.
Before the Great Famine, Ireland was flourishing with people, life overall was good. That would
all take a radical turn, many lives would change due to the upcoming famine. From 1845 to 1848,
it would become known as a turning point in Ireland s history. At this time, a potato famine had
erupted within Ireland. It was caused due to a plant fungus that had ruined almost all of their crop.
Of course, the plant fungus had always been a worry, but there was nothing that could be done

If many people had not emigrated to other countries, they would have starved to death in Ireland.
Before the Great Famine, Ireland had a grand population of nearly eight million people.
Unfortunately, about a million and a half of those people fled Ireland due to the famine. About
18% of Ireland s population ended up emigrating to different countries. A few examples include,
Australia, Canada, Britain, and the United States. About 2.5% emigrated to Australia, 11.5%
emigrated to Canada, 36% emigrated to Britain, and 50% emigrated to the United States. It only
continued to grow worse back in Ireland for the peasants. Many of them had lost their land and fell
into large amounts of debt. With the small amounts of food remaining, wealthy landowners would

My Long Term Goal Is My Life
I would love to get back into running. It used to be a passion of mine, a way to relieve stress,
kept me in shape, and maintained my weight. Since I have stopped running there s no motivation
for physical activity, I m out of shape, and gained weight. My long term goal is to get back into
running everyday. It will put me back into a healthy lifestyle and will make me feel better over all.
If I do not return to running it will affect my physical health by making me gain more weight, and
continue to be out shape. This can make me become lazy. Socially it has affected me because I
pushed the friends I had away that I used to run with. I was ashamed to tell them that I was
getting lazy. Running used to help me clear my mind and allowed me to focus on priorities, but
now that I have stopped, I no longer can fully clear my mind. This is affecting my ability to
perform my best in school. Without running everyday, spiritually I feel like I ve just been going
through the motions of life, but not really living up to my potential. Since I pushed away all my
friend who supported my running, I do not have an environment that is supportive of physical
activity. All of these factors are making me live an unhealthy lifestyle.
If I do return to running I will lose the weight I gained, and be in shape. I would be surrounded with
people who support me living a healthy lifestyle. I would be a lot less stressed and would be
thinking a lot clearer. I will actually be able to remember

Relationship Between Cinema And Cinema
Architecture is a slow and mute medium that is experienced gradually and spatially, often presented
to us through a sequence of images. The mere arrangement of these images has a direct impact on
the way we experience and interact with a space, which is explicitly in conjunction with the
discipline of cinema. Cinema, as a fast and transparent medium, has an uncanny ability to magnify
and augment this spatial experience through the strategic manipulation of the composition seen
within a frame. The relationship between cinema and architectureis evident, on account that cinema
employs the power of a narrativeto convey a meaningful message, and pictorial symbolism in its
framing of architecture. However, excluding the obvious parallels of composition and organization
between the two forms of art, they differ quite definitively on the basis of representation. As such,
the presented approach attempts to identify the relevant narrative concepts within architecture and
cinema so as to reveal the hidden undertone that may or may not directly influence our experience
of a space. Storytelling, as a form of narrative, is experienced cerebrally and has enabled cultures to
immortalize their fables and encounters. Architectural narratives, on the other hand, are
experienced spatially, i.e. through a series of physical patterns and concepts that articulate place and
meaning within a physical structure. Per se, architecture and architects, through the weaving of a
compelling narrative,

Modernism is manifested in many various ways in the works...
Modernism is manifested in many various ways in the works by Southern Renaissance writers.
All of the writers studied for this time period used multiple themes of modernism. In As I Lay
Dying, William Faulkner portrays modernism through his characters by having each character
narrate their different parts of the story. This type of narration, though fragmented, allows various
viewpoints to be heard, and it allows a look into the mind or psychology of each character. In
Flannery O Connor s, Good Country People, there is the use of bizarre and outlandish actions and
descriptions of characters in order to show the degeneration of society. Flannery s use of the

We learn about whoever is talking by the way they speak and we learn about the others from the
way they are spoken about. Darl speaks the most; he is the thinker. Jewel speaks the least; he is a
man of action. Cash is a systematic, logical man; he is a perfectionist and a craftsman. Addie did
not like her husband and Dewey Dell was pregnant and did not like Darl. Anse is lazy, Cora is a
very religious neighbor and Vardamn is a child who has a very childlike with a very juvenile way
of thinking. We were able to learn all of these things about each character without an objective
narrator.
In Good Country People, we see the characters of the story going against social norms, which is
a theme of modernism. Hulga can be looked at as the modernist and her mother, Mrs. Hopewell,
can be viewed at the traditional woman. Hulga s negative outlook on life and refusal to have a
belief in religion is modernistic. Modernists embraced the future and were beginning to leave the
past behind. They became skeptical about the traditions of their forefathers; they scrutinized
traditions. Hulga was very skeptical of the bible salesman, Manley; she felt that she was
intellectually superior to him and anyone else who had the old fashioned beliefs in religion. Hulga
was a very educated intellectual; being an educated woman with a Doctorate in Philosophy was
also a very modern concept for this time frame.

Evolution Should Not Be Taught In Schools Essay
The theory of evolution was created by Charles Darwin. It is the theory that everything was made
by the Big Bang and so, life began. From there, life began to evolve. Charles Darwin also believes
that we humans evolved from homo sapiens, which are apes. Intelligent design and creationism are
the opposite of the theory of evolution. They are the theory that life and everything along with it,
was created by a higher intelligence(Intelligent Design Network). Half of all Americans believe in
creationism, but U.S courts still rule against teaching creationism in school(Adler). How is that
fair if Darwinians are allowed to teach the theory of evolution in school? It goes against many
religions and should not be allowed to be taught at schools, just as creationism is not allowed to be
taught at schools. The theory of evolution should not be taught at public schools because it is a

Since so many Americans believe that the theory of evolution does not explain why humans are
the way they are, why teach it to our children? It doesn t even make sense! The theory of
evolution goes against many religions as well, like Christianity for example. We should be
allowed to vote for what they teach children in schools. How would you like it if the government
decides what your children are learning and you don t get a say in it? Especially if it goes
against your beliefs. Some say that science fails to view the true nature of the world when it
declines to accept anything other than material evidence. Evolution is the same, it only wants to
accept material evidence. Evolution is like a book that has some errors. How can it turn into a
different story with only those errors? Who would believe that old books with typos in them create
new books (Vedantam)? So, in conclusion, whose side of the line do you stand

Pearl Harbor Reaction Paper
The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor was the single most important event of the century and there
are many lessons learned from this event that can be applied to modern day military principles.
Complacency on the part of the United States Government and senior military officials played a key
role in this attack being successful. No one ever thought the Japanese, or any other nation for that
matter, would directly attack the United States. Had the intelligence officials at the time utilized the
high impact, low probability critical thinking model to identify those high payoff targets, then
maybe the attack could have been prevented. In terms of technology, the United States had a
distinct advantage at the time, especially since the Japanese communications code was not only
broken, but remained unchanged for a significant amount of time. There were plenty of indicators
that were collected by United States intelligence activities and by Washington; however, most of the
critical information collected was never appropriately passed to the people that needed it most, the
commanders in the field. And finally, when the commanders in the field were weary of an
impending attack, their request for additional men, weapons, and equipment went unanswered
despite Washington having enough information to substantiate the concern.

reconnaissance efforts in the Pacific should have been the priority of effort. With the amount of

vicinity of Midway Island. Had those aircraft carriers been performing regular reconnaissance
flights, they may have been able to spot the Japanese Imperial Navy on their course for Pearl

Margery Kempe Character Analysis
Throughout the book, Margery Kempe describes the events that took place during her lifetime, and
were written as she could remember them, not as a chronological and organized order. In today s
society, Margery Kempe may have been known as someone who suffered from post partum
psychosis after her numerous childbirths. This could have been a diagnosis due to her rampant
disorganized behavior, continuous hallucinations, and her self destructive behavior depicted
throughout the entire novel. Early in the book, Margery Kempe explained her first of fourteen
pregnancies and how she became very ill. The belief that demons were surrounding her and causing
her pain was a very subtle hint that there was something wrong. Our merciful Lord Christ Jesus,...

Due to illiteracy, Kempe was born unable to read or write properly. This automatically put her in

to Jerusalem. She stops to pray at the cathedral of Norwich and a church in Yarmouth. She also
passed through a large town called Zierikzee in the Netherlands where she offends her English
companions by her piety. This happened again when she was visiting Venice for thirteen weeks. If
Margery Kempe s judgment, evaluation, and impulse control were in tact, she would have never
offended her companions and she would have been respectful and appreciative to cross paths with
them. However, her motivation and desire to be given communion was very strong. After a priest at
the Hospital of St. Thomas of Canterbury in Rome speaks against Kempe, ejecting her from the
hostel, she didn t give up. Christ sent St. John the Evangelist to be her confessor and an Italian
priest in Ruota believed her sincerity and gave her communion. Based on her acts of anger in the
past, it was a relief that she didn t give the priest a hard time for not giving her communion.
Instead, she relied on God to find another

The Importance Of Assimilation In America
Assimilation is the manner in which people of a cultural group start to lose their individuality that
makes them different from the more dominant culture, as they seek to fit in. America has been a
melting pot of different cultures for centuries, whether it was by choice, forced or for a better life.
History has proven that assimilation in America was not acceptable but that has changed over time.
During slavery, whites did not accept assimilation and did everything possible to keep it from
occurring. The white race was the superior race and everyone else was inferior. African Americans
were enslaved and made to work for the white man. Slaves were bought and sold like animals
and were thought of as property and not humans. White Americans made sure that slaves had no
part in becoming apart of the dominant race. There were laws in place that forbade interracial
marriages. If a child was born due to interracial mixing, that child was considered inferior. After
the abolishment of slavery and during the 20th Century, some things started to change slowly
although Jim Crow laws still separated whites and blacks. Nowadays, due to specific laws like the
Title IV of the Civil Rights Act which does not allow discrimination due to race, age or sex has
made America slowly accept diversity and other cultures. The Equal Employment Opportunity
Commision which investigate and prosecute cases due to discrimination against minorities has
made the corporation revise their guidelines so

  • 2. WAT Utilitarianism OBESITY AND WAT METABOLISM Overview of WAT It was previous thought that WAT is only an energy storage facility. Research has also shown that WAT aids in the homeostasis of lipids and provides a buffering system postprandial. Postprandial, adipocytes uptake fatty acids while suppressing the release of non esterified fatty acids into circulation. This action becomes extremely important when buffering no longer takes place due to storage limits of the adipocytes. The following elevated concentrations of triglycerides, fatty acids and inappropriate location storage, including liver, skeletal muscle and pancreatic beta cells leading to metabolic complications (Frayn 2002, Virtue and Vidal Puig 2008). Endocrine organ Research has shown that WAT has endocrine capabilities, including, secreting a number of protein hormones and signals known as adipokines. Leptin is secreted primarily by adipocytes, proportionally to fat cell mass, and contributes to energy metabolism. Leptin will affect the energy balance by acting on the brain. Leptin can activate, directly or indirectly, specific centers in the hypothalamus to decrease food intake, to increase any energy expenditure, to influence the glucose, lipid metabolism, and alter neuroendocrine function (Campfield, Smith et al. 1995). Leptin resistance, in regards to obesity, was coined due to the increased leptin levels with no impact on regulating energy homeostasis. Leptin resistance causes insulin resistance and the accumulation of lipids is a direct result of the reduction of lipid oxidation in insulin sensitive organs; shown in preclinical and clinical experiments with obese rodents and humans. However, the mechanisms that may lead to leptin resistance are still being researched (Mori, Hanada et al. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Surveillance And The Threat Of Terrorism Surveillance Over the decades, as technology advanced, surveillance became easier and easier. In the 21st century, people live in the world of ubiquitous surveillance, where everything becomes collected, saved, searched, correlated and analyzed. Surveillance generally means to keep close watch over someone or something. While a root word in surveillance is veil, which portrays imagery as saving face, or hiding. The U.S. National Security Agency (NSA) and other federal agencies are engaging in the extensive surveillance to fight crime and reduce the threat of terrorism. Not only does surveillance fight crime, it proves the honesty and humility of people in the work office or on the streets. However, surveillance threatens privacy and liberty because it monitors individuals, meaning that certain information may not be kept secret. This frightens countless people because the thought of being watched sparks a controversy of the 4th amendment of the constitution. The 4th amendment protects the right against unreasonable searches and seizures. Surveillance challenges the privacy and liberty of individuals; nevertheless, it upholds the protection and security of citizens from terrorism and crime. The main purpose of surveillance systems is to monitor events from a remote or secret location. The capabilities of domestic surveillance expanded rapidly in recent years due to the equally rapid spread of new technologies that facilitate information gathering. However, many of the ... However, with the new construction environment and its changes such as the high usage of lean, BIM, and LEED, everything has changed. Nowadays, most of the construction contractors are measuring their general overhead costsand trying to control it. To gain profits, they started to allocate their general overhead costs to different construction projects they are working on. In this paper, we investigate how a construction company (general contractor) manages its general overhead costs. Preceding this stage, we should provide few definitions of the general overhead costs in order to give readers a deep insight of what this paper is about. Moreover, it is essential to explain how construction contractors allocate their general overhead costs to construction projects, what methods they tend to use for allocating, and what advantages and disadvantages does every method have. Further, we shift our focus to activity based costing method by defining it and describing its steps. Since the main purpose of this paper is to examine how construction contractors deal with their general overhead costs, an interview should be conducted to know how contractors allocate general overhead costto construction projects to get profits. • 7. Reaction Paper On Anger Anger is a common reaction that can aid individuals in relieving stress, and expressing emotions. Experiencing anger is normal, and at times, the appropriate response. When accomplished appropriately, anger can be an important tool used by a healthy adult. But anger has risks, perhaps more than any other emotion, it can isolate people from other adults and lead individuals to engage in behavior they may later regret. Angercan be manifested through a variety of ways, including physical violence, verbal profanity and internal frustrations. Anger can be the result of sadness, fear, or an overall inability to effectively cope with the struggles of everyday life. Writer had the experience of interacting with a client, TR, who was in the middle of an anger outburst, due to behavior of a staff member. Writer had met with TR a few times prior to this incident, a rapport had been built and TR felt comfortable enough to approach writer. When approached by TR, writer used facilitative skills to notice body language. TR s teeth were clenched, his hands were clenched in a fist and his tone was loud and sharp. TR was upset with how a staff member treated another client. Taking knowledge of defense mechanisms into account writer was able to surmise that this anger was an example of displacement from one staff member to another. In Freudian psychology, displacement is the redirection of an impulse, usually aggression, onto a powerless substitute target. The target can be a person or an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The First Years Of My Life For the first fifteen years of my life, I never referred to myself as a firm believer in love at first sight. People often tossed around the word love like it was nothing, but I knew that I had never truly been in love before. This all changed about a month before my sixteenth birthday when I fell in love with the windy city. In May of 2015, the band took a four day trip to Chicago. I was thrilled for the excursion because I had only traveled outside of Kansas a few times. Those vacations were to the beach, which is nothing like the bustling metropolis of Chicago. I had never truly experienced the city life before, so I was beyond ready for this new adventure. When I arrived to Chicago, I expected to see sights that were familiar to me, like in Kansas City. Hundreds of people traveling in different directions, towering skyscrapers, and shops were all around the city. When we were just a few miles outside from Chicago, I could see the whole skyline in the distance. I was completely fascinated by the hundreds of skyscrapers that lined the city, and the sunrise that turned the sky different shades of orange, yellow, and pink. The views that I encountered while first entering Chicago were breathtaking. Throughout the whole trip, I experienced multiple new sights, smells, and sounds. As the trip came to an end, I realized that I had developed a true love for the natural and urban beauty of Chicago, and that I eventually want to call this place home in a few years. The windy ... The boy and man find motivation while traveling toward the coast. They have been through scarce moments when they are fighting for their lives. For the man and the boy, every single day is a fight for survival. The man s will for survival is constant, although he is unable to justify it or explain where it comes from. Before his wife takes her own life he begs her not to do it, but she argues that they have no reason to continue living. . (Road) The man has an unexplainable will to stay alive for as long as he can, even as he starts to physically deteriorate. The man finds motivation to stay alive by displaying his love and care toward the boy. Cormac McCarthy s novel The Road stages the same problem of belief from the inside, but The Road is unique in locating the basis for meaning in the father s love for his son, and even suggesting that this meaning transcends the father s efforts to affirm and protect his son s life. . • 10. The Theme Of Life In Dante s Inferno After reading Dante s Divine Comedy or Dante s Inferno by Dante Alighieri, it would appear that this is a story about a man describing how his exile is leading him towards hell. At the beginning of the story, Dante starts out by saying, In the middle of the journey of our life I found myself within a dark woods where the straight way was lost (page 27). The reader will assume that this story is about Dante explaining his views of hell separated into nine circles. Alighieri s writings gave context relating to his life from his exile to his beloved. The story Dante s Inferno is about a man s journey through hell. The main character, Dante, has just been exiled from his home and is now trying to find the right road. The significance of the beginning is the religious aspect of Dante s adventure of leaving to another realm. In my opinion, the straight way is through faith in God. The dark woods represents sins and fear in God. He was lost in sin and he sets out to look for God in a sinful world. The Guelph Ghibelline Wars was a struggle between the papacy and the holy roman empire. There was a split, which created two factions in the Guelphs. One was a white faction, which supported independence from the Pope. The other was the black, whose people were willing to work with the Pope. Alighieri was fighting with for white faction. Those against the Pope, including Dante, were exiled from the Italian Peninsula. Dante felt lost in the world and wanted to find confidence in God ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Suspects are to be told that they need to not say anything due to the fact that their confessions may be useful to indicate their fault when it comes time for their trial. It is up to the suspects to determine if they want an attorney; furthermore, one can be provided if a felon cannot afford one. There are repercussions when an officer fails to read a suspect his or her rights. It just depends on the circumstances when the confession took place. If an offender voluntarily admits to anything before his or her rights were read, there is nothing that can be done to the officer. The United States (U.S.) Supreme Court acknowledged statements may be much more questionable when they are trusted when getting a confession (Hall, 2015). Increased levels of political spending increase polarization In the 2012 Presidential election, the majority of outside spending was a result of the Citizens United decision1. The unique increase of money translated into an increase in television ads, radio ads, and direct mailings. Unfortunately, the large increase in political rhetoric caused a move to political extremes rivaling those at the end of the Civil War2. It explains that micro targeting of advertising allowed corporations and Super PACS to create echo chambers, where only points of view in agreement with the audience were expressed. Polarization was an issue before the Citizens United ruling, but the unique increase in rhetoric caused the worst polarization in 120 years. B. The Enlightenment period initiated several new ideas about freedoms and rights. These ideas were discussed in meetings called salons in France, where they discussed new ideas. There were many influential philosophers from the enlightenment periods, Thomas Hobbes, Montesquieu, Adam Smith, Voltaire, John Locke, and Rousseau. Many of the colonists believed the same, so they dressed up as Native Americans and dumped imported tea from a ship into the Boston Harbour to protest against the Tea Act. The Tea Act heavily impacted the colonists taxes, which is what the colonists were fighting over. This shows that the Enlightenment influenced the American Revolution because the Enlightenment thinker Adam Smith caused the colonists to revolt against Britain s oppression. Another important Enlightenment thinker, John Locke, also inspired the colonists to revolt because he believed that people were able to revolt when their government was not protecting the natural rights of the people. Since the colonists didn t like what was happening to the controlling government, they revolted because of John Locke. Finally, Voltaire believed in freedom of speech and expression, meaning that he thought anyone could protest or say what they believed. It is a lazy and easy way to put down your opponent with poor reasoning and bad logic. It plays with people s emotion. The attack can be true, but has no relevance to the claims of the argument and can bias the audience. Ad Hominem fallacies are often used in politics, media and court. One famous Ad Hominem fallacy was when President Clinton s infidelity and lies were used to attack decisions he made as President. Although having been unfaithful and lying about it, it did not necessarily impact on his work as President. In this case his private life had no bearing on his professional activities. Ad Hominem abusive fallacy was used to point out character flaws or actions (it can even involve insults) in order to discredit his status and work. Primitive civilizations depended on religion to explain the workings of the world; they depended on gods to protect their crops and homes from disease, drought, and other disasters far out of human control. While this dependency provided comfort, it sacrificed individuality. Recent years has seen the rise of alternative forms of media: novels, digital music, movies. These were not available to previous civilizations. Early Americans only had access to the Bible, which was unreadable to the average illiterate. Newer forms of media have spurned a nation wide reflection on the old traditions that were largely set by religion. Ever since the founding of the colonies, and ever since more diverse forms of self expression have become more accessible, Americans have grown in individuality as they have become less dependent on religion. The Puritans were the first of the Europeans to settle in the Americas. While their traditions have left a profound mark on American culture, their strict ways are rather peculiar. In The Crucible, Arthur Miller critiques Puritan society as close minded and obsessed about maintaining conformity. The parochial snobbery of these people was partly responsible for their failure to convert the Indians. Probably they also preferred to take land from heathens rather than from fellow Christians (140). The Puritans revolved their culture around religion, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Yet people also do things requiring perception and thought unconsciously even when they are awake. A person can be conscious of their physical surroundings, pain and even a wish or fantasy. In short a creatureis conscious if it is aware of itself and that it is a physical and emotional being. Consciousnessis a psychological condition defined by the English philosopher John Locke as quot;the perception of what passes in a man s own mind quot;.1 Consciousness is defined and perceived differently in many psychological view points. In this view the mind is transparent to itself that is, it can perceive it s own activity. For three centuries self transparence was the defining feature of the mind. That conception was sprung through the theories of Wilhelm Wundt and Edward Titchener who were advocates off a science of introspection. Early in the 20th century the transparency doctrine came to a setback for three different reasons. The first reason was Sigmund Freud s compelling evidence that some very important mental activity is not only subconscious but firmly resists conscious access through repression. At first Freud s idea of unconscious was treated as self contradictory, but it has since won acceptance as being useful and entirely possible. the second difficulty for the transparency doctrine was that it made the mind impossible for objective science. What is known introspectively to a single person would be utterly private and therefore can not be viewed scientifically. Scientific method demands objectivity and reportable data. The behaviorists John B. Watson and B.F. Skinner and the philosopher Gilbert Ryle rebelled against the idea of an inner sense and denied the very existence of consciousness in the strong sense exhibited by Locke, Descartes and the introspective psychologists.3 Ryle insisted that mind is an illusory concept and that it is ... The Importance Of Globalization And Transnational Literatures Globalization and transnational interconnections between nations economies, the flow of people, goods, and ideas have sparked a wake of scholarship and ethnographies that seek to record these rapid changes. Globalization is transforming previously isolated communities into transnational communities; these interconnections gain the attention of scholars that concentrate on studying the materialist impact of globalization or immigrationin relation to the binary between developed and developing nations. However, these scholars tend to lose sight of the people caught up in these rapid changes and due to the lack of non hegemonic narratives the experiences of multiple communities are disregarded (Chavez 2013 ). For example, researchers tend to be greatly interested in the economic roles that migrants play in these transnational exchanges, when this is important, it is a misfortune that researchers neglect to raise awareness on the sociocultural aspects of these communities like their complex and dynamic identity journeys and identity formations (Simich 2009). Addressing this lack of concentration on more social aspects of historically underrepresented communities, authors from these communities use transnational literature as a tool to communicate their experiences while seeking to generate political consciousness in their audience (Dirlik 2002:355 217). The manager of an integrated energy and environmental management system is responsible for allocating carbon emission treatment amount to each carbon emitter within a multi period horizon. In a regional energy system, there are some limitations for total emission amounts set up by the emission constraints in certain periods. If carbon emission is larger than the emission target, the over limit part should be treated by carbon mitigation facilities. In period k, carbon emission amounts should be no more than the summation of carbon emission permit and the surplus credits from previous period (k в€’1), in which surplus of emission credits are to be transferable to a consecutive period (Li et al. 2012). Kant argued that the very ingredients which are necessary for even thinking in terms of a causal relationship could not be derived from experience and therefore must exist a priori, or independent of experience. Though he did not deny the importance of sensory data, he thought that the mind must add something to that data before knowledge could be attained; that something was provided by a priori (innate) categories of thought (unity, totality, time, space, cause and effect, reality, quantity, quality, negation, possibility impossibility, and existence nonexistence). • 49. Relationship Between Cinema And Cinema Architecture is a slow and mute medium that is experienced gradually and spatially, often presented to us through a sequence of images. The mere arrangement of these images has a direct impact on the way we experience and interact with a space, which is explicitly in conjunction with the discipline of cinema. Cinema, as a fast and transparent medium, has an uncanny ability to magnify and augment this spatial experience through the strategic manipulation of the composition seen within a frame. The relationship between cinema and architectureis evident, on account that cinema employs the power of a narrativeto convey a meaningful message, and pictorial symbolism in its framing of architecture. However, excluding the obvious parallels of composition and organization between the two forms of art, they differ quite definitively on the basis of representation. As such, the presented approach attempts to identify the relevant narrative concepts within architecture and cinema so as to reveal the hidden undertone that may or may not directly influence our experience of a space. Storytelling, as a form of narrative, is experienced cerebrally and has enabled cultures to immortalize their fables and encounters. Architectural narratives, on the other hand, are experienced spatially, i.e. through a series of physical patterns and concepts that articulate place and meaning within a physical structure. No one ever thought the Japanese, or any other nation for that matter, would directly attack the United States. Had the intelligence officials at the time utilized the high impact, low probability critical thinking model to identify those high payoff targets, then maybe the attack could have been prevented. Margery Kempe Character Analysis Throughout the book, Margery Kempe describes the events that took place during her lifetime, and were written as she could remember them, not as a chronological and organized order. In today s society, Margery Kempe may have been known as someone who suffered from post partum psychosis after her numerous childbirths. This could have been a diagnosis due to her rampant disorganized behavior, continuous hallucinations, and her self destructive behavior depicted throughout the entire novel. Based on her acts of anger in the past, it was a relief that she didn t give the priest a hard time for not giving her communion. Instead, she relied on God to find another ... America has been a melting pot of different cultures for centuries, whether it was by choice, forced or for a better life. History has proven that assimilation in America was not acceptable but that has changed over time. During slavery, whites did not accept assimilation and did everything possible to keep it from occurring. The white race was the superior race and everyone else was inferior. African Americans were enslaved and made to work for the white man. Slaves were bought and sold like animals and were thought of as property and not humans. White Americans made sure that slaves had no part in becoming apart of the dominant race. There were laws in place that forbade interracial marriages. If a child was born due to interracial mixing, that child was considered inferior. After the abolishment of slavery and during the 20th Century, some things started to change slowly although Jim Crow laws still separated whites and blacks. Nowadays, due to specific laws like the Title IV of the Civil Rights Act which does not allow discrimination due to race, age or sex has made America slowly accept diversity and other cultures. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commision which investigate and prosecute cases due to discrimination against minorities has made the corporation revise their guidelines so ...
