Globe Theater
Summary(475) The Globe Theater was established by Shakespeare s acting company, Lord
Chamberlain s Men, in 1599. It was composed of 5 brilliant actors: Augustine Phillips, Will Kempe,
Thomas Pope, John Heminge, and William Shakespeare. Shakespeare s wealth and career
developed in this theater, which showed some of his plays like Henry VII. A funny incident that
occurred during the showing of this play on June 29, 1613 was that a fireball special effect was
miss shot and hit the theater, sending it to flames. The theater was quickly rebuilt within 2 years
and started showing plays to the citizens once again. The Globe Theater was a hexagonal structure

It could have had an emphasis on social class and identity. Religious reasons could also play a
major role in deciding styles for clothing. Generally men of this period wore heavily puffed
clothing of a silk or thick cotton material. These also had the benefits of warming one up in a
cold winter day. Layers were used in outfits to create a puffing image. The outfit would usually
be completed with a fur, leather, or velvet hat. Because of Spain s growing empire, the influence
from this region brought over a variety clothing styles. It seems that generally people back then
all wore thick layers even in hot weather. Outfits were very structured and rigid, possibly due to
preserving a straight back for great posture and manners. Many accessories were added to
increase one s image and social stature. Usually, outfits included a black color. This is the first
time that black is introduced into clothing. Black clothes would have the effect of making one
seem sleeker in figure and it would complement many different colors of inside layers or
accessories. Black has the great effect of highlighting colors on top of the mono color surface.
People back then could have worn this color to show off their power by emphasizing the silver
or gold jewelry. In this period of time, slimmer shoe designs were introduced for men. They
would occasionally have ribbon decor on them in a puffing format. This made walking or doing
daily activities easier because the shoes were more comfortable. Codpieces also became popular
in men s fashion of this time. In women s fashion, dresses were more popular. Like in many
older civilizations, very rigid and structures dresses were used. These were basically cases for
humans to help them keep a good posture and figure. The insides of the dresses would be lined
with wire to restrict the woman s figure and squish and mold the body into a certain hourglass
shape. The torso would be

Human Trafficking From Latin America To Canada Essay
The trafficking of humans for sexual purposes is being described as modern day slavery. The US
State Department Trafficking in Person s 2008 report ranks Canada as a Tier One country, meaning
Canada is a source, transit, and destination country for men, women and children (SIWSAG, 2009).
Although not a top destination point for human traffickers, a conservative estimate states that
approximately 800 people are trafficked into Canada annually. These people (mostly women and
children) are transported into Canada illegally and harboured into bawdy houses and strip clubs
across the country. Many of those who are trafficked come from Latin American countries, where
the incredible poverty drives many into extreme circumstances where they may... Show more

The leaders of trafficking rings plan out complex and convoluted methods to first trick the victim,
then get her into the destination country, and finally to keep her complacent enough to stay in that
country and not alert officials. Because of this, conviction of traffickers is very difficult and
according to SIWSAG, the Sex Worker Safety Action Group of Vancouver, there have only ever
been five convictions for domestic sex trafficking in Canada, and no international trafficking
convictions (2009). This shows both a need for more police attention to the matter and better
resources for trafficked women to encourage their escape from bondage and to begin rehabilitation.
Women s sexual exploitation in Latin America is attributed to the gender based social and
economic inequalities that are so prominent in the societies where machismo is an accepted norm.
In addition to this, many Latin American women experience a lack of economic resources,
illiteracy, civil strife from political instability, and abuse within the home. All of this may force
women to look for a better life and to escape their own, making them vulnerable to forces that can
exploit their needs. With the the glamourized images of economic freedom in the Global North
making their way onto television screens throughout the continent, it is not difficult to see how an
impoverished and abused mother from Bogota can be coerced into a waitressing job

Analysis Of Michael Pollan s In Defense Of Food
The purpose of this paper is to argue that Michael Pollan s theory, to eat food [but] not too much
Mostly plants is a good way to eat because it helps people to live longer. Michael Pollan, author of
the 2007 article, Unhappy Meals and the book In Defense of Food: An Eater s Manifesto, argues
for eatingfood. Not too much. Mostly plants (Pollan). People are better off eating whole fresh
foods than processed food products (Pollan). He argues that nutrients are not food and he is right.
Nutrients are located in food and food is nutrients. Fresh foods are natural byproducts of the earth.

The Mexican-American Revolution Summary
Scholars are quick to neglect the beginning of the fight when discussing the Mexican American
struggle for justice. People claim that the first major rumblings...were heard in California in 1967,
citing radicalization in universities (Rosales 175). However, they blatantly disregard the foundation
for the movement as whole. The beginning of the 20th century Mexican American revolution dates
back at least to depression era America, starting with the case Alvarez vs Lemon Grove, a
monumental decision prohibiting de jure segregation of Mexican Americans in public school and
followed by multiple other lawsuits similarly challenging segregation and discrimination (Castro).
Rosales s reading does however differentiate these cases as well as early

Pop Song Riptide
Riptide is an awesome indie folk and indie pop song with a fun riff, beachy feel, steady tempo
and very is unique to other songs. It was created by Vance Joy, who had been working on the
song for about four years. He started in 2008, and during an interview, he had said, The words
came to me without meaning, although a few lyrics relate to his personal life, such as I was
scared of dentists and the dark, I was scared of pretty girls and starting conversations, where he
was actually a shy kid, but the he liked the literation dentists and the dark and thought it worked
well. Closest thing to Michelle Pfeiffer that you ve ever seen, was because he really likes
Michelle Pfeiffer, and cowboy running from himself was from the movie, Midnight Cowboy. These
lyrics, which seem to have no meaning, have actually became very catchy, and could get stuck in
your head for days. Some people have thought it... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

had peaked at one in Australia, two in the US and in Canada, and 20 in the UK. They have sold
over 3,000,000 units over the span of three years since it came out. This song has really stood
out from other songs because of how people can interpret the song their way. Some can think of
the lyrics as just gibberish, but others have believed it to be a story. One person thought of it as
his best friend became rich, left her, and now he is getting angry. Another thought it was a guy
writing a love song to a girl he wants to ask out. People can turn the song into whatever they want it
to mean, as there is so many ways that you can understand the song, which makes it different.
Riptide is a very interesting, fun song with great melody, musical hook, intriguing lyrics, with a
strong beat, and I highly recommend this song to anyone who is interested in different, unique

Symbolism In The Zoo Story By Edward Albee

Dr. Nicholas Pagan
Paper #4
Edward Albee has portrayed two characters in his play called The Zoo Story . These characters
are Peter and Jerry. Both these characters display a very different role in the play. Peter works as
an executive in a publishing house whereas Jerry is an abnormal person who seems to be lonely.
Albee uses human isolation as his theme in the play. This can be seen when Jerry symbolize zoo to
show the disconnection of relation among people. Communication with people does not occur in
the zoo as we are separated from the bars in it. When zoo is compared with real life situation,
everyone has limited time to communicate to each other. The play ... Show more content on

Peter in his early forties worked as an executive whereas Jerry in his late thirties is a jobless man
and he thinks himself as a permanent transient in his life. Misunderstanding occurred in both
characters due to social class gap. Peter is living in the city compared to Jerry who is in rural
area. Peter is not the type of person who shares thoughts or experience to someone else. In the
play, Jerry approached Peter first to chat. The social gap could explain Jerry s isolation where his
surrounding does not encouraged him to mingle with others. Even though Jerry feels lonely but he
attempted to find relationship with others. For instance, Jerry said to Peter, But once in a while I

Worm In Hamlet Essay
Hamlet Quotation Test
Choice 1: Option 2
A man may fish with the worm that hath eat of a king, and eat of the fish that hath fed of that
worm. (IV, iii, 27 28)
To begin, this passage is said by Hamlet directly to his uncle Claudius. It occurs right after he has
killed Polonius and is being questioned as to the whereabouts of the body. Within, Hamlet
describes how a man can catch a fish with a worm that has eaten from the king and then the fish
will be eaten by the man. This basically means that death is an equalizer and even someone as
mighty as a King can be used as something to help feed the common man. This passage creates a
vivid image of a worm decomposing a body of a King, the worm then being used to fish, and then
the fish being fed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This takes place after Hamlet has killed Polonius and Claudius is talking to Laertes. The king is
trying calm Laertes down after he learns Polonius s death and is also trying to guilt Laertes into
helping kill Hamlet inconspicuously. The quotation tells of how Laertes would kill Hamlet in a
church. This means the he would even face the wrath of God if it means he could kill Hamlet.
Additionally, this line targets the Elizabethan audience. Hamlet is set in the Elizabethan era
where Christianity is a huge part of the culture. Churches in that time could offer sanctuary to
criminals (which means they would be safe from arrest). For the reason that churches were
considered sacred murder was definitely against the law. Thus, showing that Laertes would go to
extreme measures to get revenge. Also, the passage develops the conflict of the play. This is
because Laertes now wants to avenge his father s death by killing Hamlet. So now, not only
having to deal with Claudius, Hamlet has another fight going on. Finally, the line helps develop the
theme of revenge because Laertes is stating he wants to cut the throat of Hamlet to avenge
Polonius death. This quote is the answer to Claudius asking for help to kill Hamlet. Thus, these
words of eagerness and hate distinctly show Laertes desire for

Artist Statement For Illegal Alien
Artist Statement
My still image film Illegal Alien grew from a project or series of works I created last semester.
The charcoal animation in the intro was inspired by a short film, Puerta Abierta , I made in
collaboration with a friend in my experimental video class. The subject matter within this short film
was about feeling outcasted as a Mexican American. These themes are veiled behind a narrative; a
deer wandering aimlessly throughout an empty house thus feeling out of place. Streamside Day by
Pierre Huyghe was a frame of reference here because I was intrigued by the deer stumbling around
an empty suburban home and what that could mean in a narrative. For this piece, I wanted to create
a narrative with similar themes from Puerta Abierta

Sttylistic Devices In Tim I Carried By Tim OBrien
One stylistic device that O Brien uses is repetition. O Brien frequently repeats occasions, usually
adding additional detail with each repeat. One example of this is the moment of when Kiowa
died. He retold this story five times, this is the center of most of the novel s action and the
motivation for most of the characters development. The repetition is a stylistic device O Brien
adds to stretch the truth of a story by adding and subtracting detail. The effect of this for a reader
is a feeling that shows O Brien s obsession with the stories he tells, because they always run
through his memories. His repetitions expose the reader to no possibility of change to the
soldiers and what he sees and experiences on a daily basis. This also gives the reader a sense of
confidence with the soldiers and their hellish moments in Vietnam.Tim O Brien uses repetition so
we remember and understand what the soldiers have done. In warfare it is very easy to talk about
everybody as a group. Which means that repetition of names, phrases, and the things they carry
makes them individuals. O Brien frequently uses repetition to emphasize the pain of the men.
They carried is repeated over and over again showing the hardships of the soldiers. They carried
their fear, love, shame, and guilt on top of the intense weight of their gear. The memories that the
soldiers carry, the emotional pain and weight, can be far more burdensome than the physical items
the men carry. Tim O Brien also keeps using

She wears the pants in the relationship and can sway Marshall with her words and actions

Although Lily is the dominant one In the relationship, they have pretty traditional roles. They

Genre Of Music Essay
Our data showed some interesting trends for each genre of music. While many of our tests fell in
line with what we predicted with our hypothesis, we did have some outliers that we did not account
for.
As stated previously, we started by testing the resting heart rate of our subjects as our constant.
The overall average of our subjects heart rates was 69.92 BPM which falls in line with the
standard average. However, some subjects had a harder time relaxing completely while being
tested and therefore had a higher resting heart rate. Once the resting heart rate was established, we
were then able to compare the heart rates while the subjects were listening to music and see if we
could find a significant difference that supported our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another explanation for these increases could be that several subjects started dancing in their seats
when they heard the song. The physical movement could have been a cause for the raise in the
heart rates. These increases also fit what we originally predicted in our original hypothesis.
The final genre that we tested was classical music and we used Adagio for Strings by Samuel
Barber. The average heart rate for this song was 70.12 BPM which is just a 0.20 difference from
the resting average. The tempo for this song was significantly less than all of the other genres at
just 77 BPM. Classical music has multiple studies done suggesting that it can improve newborn
babies IQ, helps while studying and helps you fall asleep. While this is not what we tested for,
the fact that classical music lowered or kept almost every subjects heart rate the same, backs up
some of these previous studies that have been performed. In our data, there was one person who
was completely different from the rest of the data. As stated previously, all of our subjects
tested, except for one, were 18 22 male and female college students. The one subject who did not
fit the mold of our other subjects was a male, college professor. This subject s response to all of
the music genres did not come close to any other person s response. With every single genre of
music that was played for this subject, their heart rate lowered significantly. There are a

In addition to the simple will, I would suggest that both of you go to see an estate planning
attorney and have them establish a medical durable power of attorney, a living will, and a
general durable power of attorney for each of you. It is ok to name the spouse as the agent for
each other but it is also essential to place in the document a successor agent in case your primary
agent is deceased. When choosing that person, make sure that you have a conversation with that
person to make sure that they know your wishes and desires in terms of financial and medical
decisions that they might have to make. For Paul s mother Claire, she also needs the same three
documents. Even though her only source of income is her Social Security Benefits, a durable
power of attorney is necessary if she needs someone to write checks or deposit checks. For
Claire, it is important to have these documents executed while she is still medically competent
because if you wait until after she is declared incompetent, the process becomes more difficult.
Ron and Peggy also would need a medical durable power of attorney, a living will, and a durable
power of attorney. Even though they are young and still have not built up wealth, these are
important documents to have in place in case they are to become severely ill or are in a horrible

Cinematic Techniques In American Beauty
I utilize two scenes from the movie American Beauty, the two office scenes including Lester
(Kevin Spacey) and Brad (Barry Del Sherman). The cinematic techniques are identified with mise
en scene, which is the term used to portray everything put into the scene . I concentrate on decor,
lighting and props, costumes, body language (e.g., posture, gestures and facial expressions) and
composition. I additionally take a gander at how these components are confined as far as camera
stature, camera point and camera separate, all of which fall under the class of cinematography. The
scene seems right off the bat the movie. Toward the start of American Beauty, the hero, Lester

the room itself is monstrous, utilitarian, faintly lit, ineffectively enhanced and is terribly dull and
dim. Behind Lester, there is only a diminishing plant stuck in a corner and a work of art that is
too little for the divider. The stylistic layout uncovers what sort of association Lester works for,
one that sucks the life and light out of its representatives. As far as sythesis, the surrounding of
the shot is terrible too. Lester is situated in the middle base of the casing, which is a bizarre place
to put the primary subject. There is to an extreme degree a lot of headroom above him, his feet
appear to be removed, a roof light bulges down into the highest point of the casing. It is an
appalling shot in a dim, revolting room; it serves as a visual appearance of Lester s discontent and
unease. Here the shot is a mid shot, and Brad possesses an expansive bit of the edge. The low edge
mid shot accentuates his energy, particularly when compared with the high point wide shot of
Lester that we just took a gander at. At the point when Brad stands up, the low edge shot is further
stressed. Outwardly, Brad is displayed as being prevailing. His stance his straight, he is more
youthful, he is dressed all the more stylishly and his outward appearances uncover pomposity and
disdain. Behind him, the vertical Venetian blinds make a visual example that infers the bars of a
correctional facility cell or pen. To Lester, his occupation resemble a

Essay on The Turn of the Screw by Henry James
How far does The Turn of the Screw conform to the conventions of the
Victorian ghost story genre? What alternative interpretations does it lend itself to?
The Turn of the Screw was written by Henry James in the nineteenth century, when the belief that
living people were in contact with the dead was prevalent. In the Victorian era the advance of
science was undermining religious beliefs, because evolutionists were saying that the world had not
been created in 4004BC, as the bible suggests.
Therefore, the possibility of contacting the spirits restored some faith in the non material world.
The era it was written in does suggest that The Turn of the Screw is merely a classic ghost story, but
Henry James has integrated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the reader then discovers that the manuscript is kept in a locked drawer and has not been out
for years due to the dreadful dreadfulness! of the tale, the mysterious atmosphere is strengthened. It
is at this point in the novel that
Henry James ensures that the reader will finish reading the book, because they will want to know
what the Governess is hiding and why.
One of the obvious reasons for this, to the reader, is that the
Governess did not want anyone to hear her story due to it s hard hitting content. This reason is
made apparent to the reader from the metaphor Turn of the Screw , which gives the impression that
the story will have a deep emotional impact on them like a screw being forced into a wall. Adding a
particular touch to the story are the two children, who give the effect of two turns . This shows the
reader that the story will have a deeper impact on them than they originally thought, because the
depth of the screw is dictated by the amount of turns forced upon it and also represents the
impression made on the reader. Consequently, if the screw is turned twice then the story will have
twice the impact. Douglas wincing grimace at the thought of the story supports the reader s
assumption that The Turn of the Screw is a horrific ghost story, but nothing more psychological
than that. However, alternative interpretations suggest that the prologue is used

The Flexible Dieting Program
If you want to lose weight and obtain a body that all the ladies and men would jump off cliffs for,
you must eat clean food! A decent amount of people who weightlift and exercise on a daily
basis believe that in order to lose or gain weight and achieve their desired body, they must eat
clean foods. In other words, they avoid foods that are fried, oily, and high in fats and carbs and
only eat foods that are low in calories, fats, and carbs. They believe that tracking calories, fats,
carbs, and proteins, is unnecessary as long as you eat the right food. By segregating foods into
good and bad, they are limited to only so many foods and eventually; they will become sick of
eating the same foods over and over. However, with flexible dieting, such as (IIFYM), short for
If It Fits Your Macros , people can lose or gain weight by tracking calories, micro and

based on an idea that as long as what you are eating hits your macronutrient goals of fats, carbs,
proteins, and fibers, then it is okay to eat it. With that being said, people who track their calories and
macronutrients can eat what they want without feeling guilty about themselves. People who eat

Journey through Forensic botany of the Casey Anthony trial
Forensic science is a vital tool in the search for the truth in any legal proceeding. Regardless of
the type of legal proceeding or which side uses scientific evidence, the forensic scientist must be
able to write a report and testify under oath about, what facts or items of evidence were analyzed
or tested; what tests or analyses were used; how valid or reliable those tests or analyses have been
found to be by other courts; why and how the forensic scientist was qualified to conduct those tests
or analyses; and, what the results of the tests or analyses were and how those results are relevant to

expressed that she couldn t say when Caylee s remaining parts were put in the forested areas.
Bock conceded that the remaining parts could have been in the forested areas for over two weeks
and that she had constrained experience in studying on roots developing into bones .(Battaglia

come from the scene where the remains were found. Forensic botany is a relatively new discipline
being used. During the murder trial of Casey Anthony, forensic botany was used to determine how
long Caylee s remains were in the forested area. This case was exceptionally interesting, even after
the lies that Casey told, even after reporting her daughter missing a month after; she was acquitted

Rene Descartes Wax Argument
Descartes uses the wax argument in order to present his observations in Mediation II . He starts
off by discussing a piece of wax (a body) as fresh from honeycomb. He then provides a detailed
description of it through what his senses perceive. For example, he describes, Its color, shape
size are plain to see; it is hard, cold...if you rap it with your knuckle it makes a sound (Descartes
1988, p.84). He then puts the wax by fire wherein it melts and all the qualities we had earlier
perceived of it disappear. As a result, Descartes questions that if we eliminate the qualities
observed by our sense perception of a body, can we still claim that the body remains? To clarify,
although our initial perception of the wax differs from our perception now of the wax, we still
agree that that the same wax is present: It must be admitted that it does; no one denies it, no one
thinks otherwise (Descartes 1988, p.84).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With this in mind, he strongly argues that the sensory perceptions only recognize the qualities of
that body of wax in which the wax presented itself to us. He moves on to saying that by
eliminating the qualities that we now identify as unessential in order to distinguish the wax, we
now have something that is extended, flexible, and changeable (Descartes 1988, p. 84). Therefore,
he clarifies that our sensory perceptions or imagination are not capable enough in order to
distinguish a piece of wax, rather this is the sole judgment of the mind. For example, although we
can imagine the wax to undergo certain changes and still have the remaining qualities of being
extended, flexible, etc... we cannot imagine all the possible changes because that is outside of the
parameters of the

The Australian Stock Exchange Goes
The Australian stock exchange goes as far back as the mid 1800s. Australian originally had six
separate exchanges throughout the country. The first stock exchange in Australia was founded in
1861 in Melbourne followed by the Sydney, Hobart, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth one in each
capital of every Australian state. In 1937 the Australian Associated Stock Exchange(AASE) was to
establish to secure rules for brokers and commission rates. Representatives from each exchange
were present to represent their exchange at the AASE. Up until 1960 trades were made by a call
system in which the names of each company was called out and broker put in their bids. Post
1960s the system changed and they hired employees called chalkies who wrote bids and offers on a
board throughout the trading hours and recorded all transactions.
On April 1st, 1987 the Australian Parliament formed the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX).
This caused the merging of all six independent stock exchanges throughout the country into one
national exchange instead of six separate state run institutions. Along with establishing a national
exchange they also launched a new trading system call the Stock Exchange Automated Trading
System (SEATS), in response to the increased volume of exchanges. This was a significant
improvement from the chalk and board method, which had been used for almost a century. Before
the establishment of the ASX there had been three forms of trading in the Australian stock
exchange. The

Matthew 1 Genealogies
Matt 1:1 2:23. Predominantly, the Gospel of Matthew 1 traces the lineage of Jesus the Messiah,
the son David and the son of Abraham. These genealogies were important to Israel, as they took
meticulous records for identifying one as a Jew to receive blessings from God, his chosen
people. Furthermore, each tribe received inherited land in Israel, and required evidence that he
was descended from that precise tribe. Expressly, if you were a Jew descended from Mosesand
could prove this connection, it was considered to secure a meaningful blessing. Matthew s sole
purpose is to present JesusChrist as the Savior of Israel. Additionally, he recited numerous
prophecies from the Old Testament, incorporating how Jesus fulfilled them

Sweatshop Exploitation and Responsibility
Sweatshops were first well known to the public eye when several major corporations exploitation of
workers were revealed during the late twentieth century. Sweatshops generally are factories that
provide workers with socially unacceptable working conditions, especially dealing with clothing
items. With the expanding apparel industries around the world, more and more corporations are
using sweatshop factories to their advantage. Numerous companies claim that they are not
responsible for actions of those factories from which they purchase from because it is not part of
their corporation. However, action needs to be taken by the government and individual
corporations to improve the working conditions in sweatshop factories. Due to the harsh working
environment, insufficient pay, and other factors that cause inhumane treatment of workers in
sweatshops, the US government should improve working conditions for workers, have stricter
regulations on sweatshops, and strive to improve the treatment of sweatshop workers across the
globe. Sweatshop proponents argue that even though sweatshops may not provide the best
working conditions for workers, it at least provides a job for those who are in desperate need of
one. In a way, a sweatshop may even benefit the workers. The money the workers earn from
working in the sweatshop factory may be the deciding factor in whether they have food

If I were the USSR, I would respond to the rebuilding of Germany, the Berlin Airlift, Nato, and
the National Security Act by not trying to go hand and hand with the United States in terms of
alliances and in developing military weapons. You could make the case that by the creation of
NATO and the CIA, it was the start of the decline of the USSR. The USSR should never have put
up a blockade against the Germans because it would later cause the Berlin Airlift which supplied
Germany with supplies by the United Statesand British planes going into West Berlin. When Stalin

Life In The Trenches During WWI
Life in the trenches during WWI was miserable. There seem to be no words that could truly
match the horrific experience, but soldiers tried to conjure images using literature to come close
to their experience. As stated in The World s History, Europe had not warfare on such a scale
since the Napoleonic wars (Spodek 664). Even watching the American Civil War from afar could
not have prepared Europe and the young men that served for the devastation WWI brought. The
poems described the war as a collection of numbed men, simply waiting to die, lines of grey,
muttering faces. Men who had joined to serve their country had now become disillusioned with the
nobility of dying for their country, wondering if the suffering both in and out of the trenches

accident. This is what happened in the movie, Changing Lanes. A wealthy man on his way to a
probate court hearing, Gavin Banek, has a wreck with a recovering alcoholic, Doyle Gipson,
who is also on his way to court in order to keep his family together. Banek proceeds to leave the

when he was dying. When Banek calls out Delano, Delano proceeds to tell Banek on how he can
live with himself. Delano says that he does more good than harm and that he helps more people
than hurts. This is an example of a utilitarian way of thinking because even though he is a cut

characters violating one of the libertarian principles. This example was when Banek illegally

Feminism And Its Impact On Women s Rights
they could be. Feminism in refer to a collection of movements and opinions that share a common
goal including to define, create, and achieve equal rights for women in social, economic, cultural
and political dimensions (Berger, 2013).
Feminist movements have fought for women s rights including suffrage rights, right for fair wage,
right to work, hold a public office, own property, education, equal rights in marriages among other
rights (Ryan, 2013).
The journey to achieve these rights has not been without struggle as feminism has been met with
great resistance from the male dominated society.
Besides fighting for women s rights, feminists advocated for bodily autonomy and integrity and
especially to protect girls and women in general from sexual harassment, rape, and domestic
violence (Coppock Haydon, 2014).
Slide 3:
Media has always been an important element in the propagation of ideas in the society. Feminism
has been one of the issues that media has given enough attention over the years. However, the way
the media represents feminism and feminists have not been positive especially in the 19th and 20th
centuries (Johnson, 2014).
Feminism has been portrayed in the media in a different perspective. It has been portrayed as a
fight against men. This has created a picture that the female gender was fighting against the male
gender.
In fact, the way different media has represented feminism and feminists have portrayed women who
support feminism as a scary element in

Long Distance Rates And Revenue
As long distance rates and revenue declined, the debt and expenses piled up and put pressure on
WorldCom s ability to meet key performance indicators and earnings forecasts (J. Randel Kuhn
Sutton, 2006). The line cost was the biggest expense for WorldCom and half of its total expenses.
Management committed to achieve a low line cost to revenue ratio because lower ratio meant better
performance and higher ratio meant poorer performance. Managementfocused on lowering the line
cost level expense (J. Randel Kuhn Sutton, 2006). It carried out two improper accounting
methods to reduce the amount of line costs (Beresford, Katzenbach, C.B. Rogers, 2003). First, it
released the accruals, the amounts kept aside on WorldCom s financial statements to pay
expected bills which is also called cookie jar reserve from 1999 2000 (Beresford, Katzenbach,
C.B. Rogers, 2003). These accruals were supposed to reflect the estimate line costs and other
expenses that WorldCom had not yet paid (Beresford, Katzenbach, C.B. Rogers, 2003). Releasing
the accrual is appropriate when it turns out that less is needed to pay the bills than has been
expected to pay. Instead, WorldCom provided offset against reported line costs when the accrual
was released which reduced reported expenses and increased pre tax income (Beresford,
Katzenbach, C.B. Rogers, 2003).
When the accruals started to run out, WorldCom came up with another method, capitalization of
line costs. WorldCom started classifying

The relationship between Juliet and her parents, Lord Capulet and Lady Capulet is unhealthy
because of the lack of communication between them. Juliet has a stronger relationship and has

Analysis of the Research Process in a recently published Business Research Study
Abstract The purpose of this paper is to analyze a recently conducted business research study in a
view to assess whether the researcher has followed all the basic and essential steps of the Business
Research Process or not. A Formal businessresearch report starts with a brief introduction to the
topic and clearly defines the Statement of the problem. In the subsequent sections, a comprehensive
literature review is presented to give some background knowledge and explain the topic in the light
of relevant past research studies (Sekaran Bougie, 2010). The researcher proceeds with defining his
population, sample size, and methodology for his research study. Afterwards, he develops
hypotheses and uses different analytical and statistical tools to draw results and present his final
conclusion (Saunders, Lewis, Thornhill, 2006). The research study under analysis was conducted
by Salim Darmadi in Indonesia to analyze the relationship between the placement of females in the
Management Board of a firm and the financial performance of that firm. The researcher has
reviewed a number of articles and research studies from relevant Business, Economics, and
Management journals. The paper contains a detailed background and supporting knowledge in the

Greek Gods Dbq
Greek gods good, bad, or both? Well, they are bad and good for the Ancient Greek Civilization. I
ll explain two positive and negative effects it had on Ancient Greeks. These effects affect
virtually every aspect of their society. As stated in Historical. The First positive reason it had is
that they could say that the gods did anything they couldn t explain. They said this because the
gods were supposedly in control of every part of daily life. Such as the weather, crops, love,
money, business, earthquakes, phases of the moon, and if a loaf of bread burned in the oven.
As stated in Document two. That seems like a crazy thing to see that people used to do but that
is our history That was one of their most positive reasons to believe in the gods. You had
someone to blame for everything and there was many of them so you could say it was any of
them. That s the first positive effect it had on the Ancient Greeks. The second positive (and
negative) reason is where they used to live Its a positive effect effects because the view was
spectacular. They lived on Thera which is one of the most picturesque islands of Greece. As stated
in Document three. Picturesque means a delightful, striking, or quaint view. Thera was on a sunken

The Presentation Of Self As A Work Developed By...
The Presentation of Self In Everyday Life is a work developed by noted sociologist Erving
Goffman. In it, Goffman details the sociological perspective of our social interactions. He uses
the metaphor of theatre to better understand the complexities surrounding interactions; it is from
this seminal text that we establish words from the dramaturgical framework such as
performance, backstage, front stage, and costume as illustrations of interactionism. He begins
the book by addressing the idea of performance. For Goffman, performance refers to all the
activity of any individual which occurs during a period marked by his continuous presence
before a particular set of observers and which has some influence on the observers. (Goffman,
1959) In other words, performance is an analogy in reference to how a person acts, in both the
front stage and backstage, for their audience. Because in every social interaction we are putting
on a performance, Goffman believes that we each have a role as well. As with a theatrical
production, the front stage and the back stage are critical in understanding how the interaction
between individual and audience is carried out. The front stage or region is where the superior
more desirable impressions of the self are brought forth; in the background, actors display a
private and more nuanced version of the self as they consider this place separate from the role
they play in society. There is also the idea of offstage, which Goffman argues is the place

The Birth Order And Personality
Birth Order, as in the order a child is born in their family, has been a popular topic for researchers
and the general public for decades. Originally it was claimed that personality was determined by
birth order and even now there are many stereotypes of the firstborn being mature and driven
while the youngest child is often described as wild and rebellious (Bleske Rechek and Kelley,
2013). Nowadays researchers find birth orderand personality are unrelated. Whether or not
intelligenceis related to birth order is not completely clear as there have been many studies
supporting both sides. However, based on the newest research the prevailing attitude is that
intelligence is linked with birth order. Last of all an individual s health seems... Show more content

Furthermore any perceived link would only be visible when an individual is with their family
(Bleske Rechek and Kelley, 2013). Both Birth order and personality: A within family test using
independent self reports from both firstborn and later born siblings and Examining the effects of
birth order on personality came to the same conclusion. With both study s results supporting each
other it can be said that an individual s personality is unaffected by the order they are born within
their family.
Intelligence
Intelligence is a fair amount easier to measure on account of IQ (Intelligence quotient) tests. That
said many researchers have conducted studies on a possible connection between intelligence and
birth order. What studies such as Examining the effects of birth order on personality have found is
that firstborns do slightly better on intelligence tests (Rohrer, Egloff, and Schmukle, 2015). To
show how slight the effect is a randomly picked firstborn had a 52% chance of having a higher IQ
than a randomly picked secondborn. (Rohrer, Egloff, and Schmukle, 2015, pg 14225) IQ tests are
not the only way intelligence was measured in terms of linking it to birth order, educational
attainment was also used. Birth order and educational attainment: evidence from fully adopted
sibling groups focuses on

The Pacific Theater Of World War II
The Pacific Theater of World War II saw some of the most destructive and deadly battles in the
history of the United States. Many of these battles played out over the course of several days and
involved countless casualties from both American and Japanese forces. The Battle of the
Philippine Sea is one such battle that marks a major win for the United States in the Pacific. The
battle, which took place during June of 1944, took out most of the enemy s carrier based planes,
along with their pilots, leading to the successful invasion of the Philippines and Marianas, which
served as land based airfields that were close enough to launch attacks of the Japanese homeland. As
the battle raged, Admiral Spruance made a controversial decision to not... Show more content on

Spruance tasked Admiral Mitscher and his Task Force 58 with control of the impending attack.
TF 58в€’composed of 15 carriers, cruisers, destroyers, and hundreds of planesв€’was
supplemented by several hunter killer groups that preceded the ships arrival in the Marinas. On
June 19, 1944, as TF 58 got closer, the Japanese, whose aircraft had longer ranges, launched the
first wave of aircraft. However, the incoming planes were quickly spotted, which gave Admiral
Mitscher enough time to ensure a large number of his planes were in the air before the enemy
got too close to Saipan, which Spruance was intent on protecting. Consequently, Ozawa s
aircraft were intercepted and many were shot down. Around this time, torpedoes from US
submarines struck and sank 2 Japanese carriers. Many more enemy aircraft waves were
launched to attack TF 58; however, a very small number actually reached US ships. Japanese
forces only landed one hit on a US ship throughout the entire battle. The Japanese suffered over
300 planes lost in air combat while the US only lost 30. Mitscher was not satisfied, however, and
took off in pursuit of the enemy, knowing his aircraft would not be in range until late the next
afternoon. Despite being at the very edge of their attacking range, the US aircraft shot down even
more enemy planes and also sank another carrier, ending one of the greatest

The Mozart Effect and Infant Intelligence
In modern society intelligence is highly competitive and subject to scrutiny; therefore, it is
understandable that a child s intelligence is a primary concern for many parents. The Mozart effect,
popularised in the 1990s, resulted in many parents believing that simply exposing their child to
music composed by Mozart would improve their intelligence(Campbell, 1997). The claim was
founded by research published in the journal Nature, which suggested that spatial reasoning could
be temporarily enhanced by listening to one of Mozart s compositions for ten minutes (Rauscher,
Shaw Ky, 1993). It will be argued that there is not sufficient evidence to support the claim that
playing Mozart to babies will increase their intelligence. Firstly, the... Show more content on

A study intending to emulate the results expressed in the original study was performed on
preschool aged children exposing them to similar variables as those in the original study (Hui,
2007). The study showed no empirical evidence that listening to Mozart is more beneficial for
children than ulterior conditions (Hui, 2007). This disproves the belief that listening to Mozart
makes a child smarter also making the generalization from the Rauscher et al (1993) inconclusive.
There are also a number of other factors that have been overlooked when comparing the finding of
the original study to the Mozart effect in children. Another discerning factor expressed in the
original study was the test used to assess intelligence between the participants. The portion of the
Stanford Binet test used in the original study focuses on one aspect of intelligence, namely, spatial
reasoning (Rauscher et al, 1993). Therefore, it would be invalid to assume that high scores on this
specific test delineate an increase in overall general intelligence. The test itself is also bias as
specific cultures outperform others, as cultural environment has an influence on intelligence, which
may lead to deficits in the results found (Weinberg, 1989). Sternberg (2004) found that IQ tests are
effective at predicting academic success in western individuals but are not conclusive measures of
overall intelligence or ability to succeed. Gardner (1999) also proposed that IQ test also

Analysis Of The Novel Night
Adrian Tineo

Night
The novel Night is a vivid representation of a man s loss of faith from the beginning to the end of
the catastrophic era in which this book takes place. As a young boy Elie s inquisitive mind
directed him to the synagogue where he would study the Kabbalah s revelations and mysteries.
Here is where Moishe the beadle, a friend to Elie, would sit with him in the synagogue and they
would talk for hours about the intriguing secrets of Jewish mysticism. One important piece of
advice that Moishe told Elie was, There are a thousand and one gates allowing entry into the
orchard of the mystical truth. This simply meant he would need to pursue these answers on his
own. However, Elie believed Moishe would help him bind his questions and answers as well, into
one. These meetings were interrupted when Moishe was extracted from the Sighet where he
experienced malice.
He then returned to Sighet after being left for dead and managing to escape from the Gestapo.
Moishe witnessed atrocious behavior that affected him profoundly. When he returned, he was not
the same person, the vitality in his eyes had perished. He told everyone what he had seen, but no
one would pay attention to his words. Even after hearing Moishe s words of warning they labeled
him mad. Not convinced of the stories Moishe spoke of, their normal lives kept on. This indicates
that the Jews refused to acknowledge what fate had laid ahead.

Maria Barbara, his second cousin, and had seven children(1). About thirteen years later Maria had

Rhetorical Analysis Of First Rhetorical Strategy
A library can be a repository of knowledge or a squirrel s worst nightmare. With this in mind an
angle of vision is being created. An angle of vision is not simply written, it is carefully and
deliberately constructed through the proper use of five rhetorical strategies. Word Choice, Sentence
Structure, Overt Statements, Figurative Language, and Selection and Omission of Details are the
strategies used by writers to create the angle of vision. To understand these strategies I have written
two paragraphs that are similar in description yet carry vastly different angles of vision.
The first rhetorical strategy I used in my paragraphs is word choice. Word choice is the intentional
use of certain vocabulary that carries certain connotations which enhance the angle of vision of the
writer. Certain words can be very neutral while others can really convey a strong positive or
negative emotion, due to the connotation. The feeling that is carried by word choice is the reason I
chose a particular sentence from my positive paragraph. To quote, In the backdrop, the soft glow
of the glorious glare is allowed to fill the room as the breeze ruffles the branches of the trees
through the life sized glass. The use of glorious flare with particular emphasis on glorious is a
great example of word choice due to the uplifting feeling that is carried with the word glorious. I
could have chosen to write the sun with no other description. The tone of this particular sentence
would begin to

Smaug Song Analysis
Movie Music Analysis: Smaug s Theme Smaug s Theme was composed by Howard Shore for
2013 s The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug. The genre of the piece is film fantasy, adventure and
has touches of horror mixed in with it. The song fits the style of the majestic dragon that is its
namesake, and it flows wonderfully with the movie, taking in various other relative themes and
working with the events that happen in the movie. Smaug s Theme was written by the award
winning Howard Shore and performed by the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra for the second
Hobbit movie, Desolation of Smaug. Shore, born on 18th October, 1946 in Toronto, studied at the
Berklee College of Music. His first big score was Silence of the Lambs, and it became highly
successful,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is an example of how most of the piece has an underlying, faster beat to uphold the feeling
of fleeing . Occasionally the underlying ostinato isn t present because, in those scenes, the
dwarves and Bilbo are in a room where the dragon cannot get to them. Smaug s Theme is in 4/4
(simple duple) time and starts out slow, before an accelerando, eventually hitting 180bpm, which
represents the movie s rapid change of pace. This represents the drift from a conversation, to a
dragon hunting down the company to kill them. Through the rhythm and dynamics, it is clear that
Howard Shore s Smaug s Theme has successfully highlighted the style of the film. Smaug is very
magnificent and grand, yet treacherous and cunning. In terms of the timbre of Smaug s Theme, a
symphony orchestra is used with the strings and brass being the most prominent, plus a few extra
instruments such as an Indonesian gamelan and finger cymbals. Little woodwind is heard, with
flute and clarinet making a few solo appearances. The lower brass, particularly the tuba and
trombone, represent Smaug, and his enormous, powerful, and deceivingly slow manner. The
violins play a large range of pitches and depict the beautiful, yet eerie emptiness of the halls under
the mountain and how it has an immense dread feel to it. Gamelan, chimes and finger cymbals are
used to forge an exotic feeling and together, sound like treasure, with the light chinking of coins and
gold. The percussion

  • 2. Globe Theater Summary Charles Liu English 2 H Smith Period 6 16 October 2014 Shrewsearch Globe Theater Summary(475) The Globe Theater was established by Shakespeare s acting company, Lord Chamberlain s Men, in 1599. It was composed of 5 brilliant actors: Augustine Phillips, Will Kempe, Thomas Pope, John Heminge, and William Shakespeare. Shakespeare s wealth and career developed in this theater, which showed some of his plays like Henry VII. A funny incident that occurred during the showing of this play on June 29, 1613 was that a fireball special effect was miss shot and hit the theater, sending it to flames. The theater was quickly rebuilt within 2 years and started showing plays to the citizens once again. The Globe Theater was a hexagonal structure with a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It could have had an emphasis on social class and identity. Religious reasons could also play a major role in deciding styles for clothing. Generally men of this period wore heavily puffed clothing of a silk or thick cotton material. These also had the benefits of warming one up in a cold winter day. Layers were used in outfits to create a puffing image. The outfit would usually be completed with a fur, leather, or velvet hat. Because of Spain s growing empire, the influence from this region brought over a variety clothing styles. It seems that generally people back then all wore thick layers even in hot weather. Outfits were very structured and rigid, possibly due to preserving a straight back for great posture and manners. Many accessories were added to increase one s image and social stature. Usually, outfits included a black color. This is the first time that black is introduced into clothing. Black clothes would have the effect of making one seem sleeker in figure and it would complement many different colors of inside layers or accessories. Black has the great effect of highlighting colors on top of the mono color surface. People back then could have worn this color to show off their power by emphasizing the silver or gold jewelry. In this period of time, slimmer shoe designs were introduced for men. They would occasionally have ribbon decor on them in a puffing format. This made walking or doing daily activities easier because the shoes were more comfortable. Codpieces also became popular in men s fashion of this time. In women s fashion, dresses were more popular. Like in many older civilizations, very rigid and structures dresses were used. These were basically cases for humans to help them keep a good posture and figure. The insides of the dresses would be lined with wire to restrict the woman s figure and squish and mold the body into a certain hourglass shape. The torso would be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Human Trafficking From Latin America To Canada Essay The trafficking of humans for sexual purposes is being described as modern day slavery. The US State Department Trafficking in Person s 2008 report ranks Canada as a Tier One country, meaning Canada is a source, transit, and destination country for men, women and children (SIWSAG, 2009). Although not a top destination point for human traffickers, a conservative estimate states that approximately 800 people are trafficked into Canada annually. These people (mostly women and children) are transported into Canada illegally and harboured into bawdy houses and strip clubs across the country. Many of those who are trafficked come from Latin American countries, where the incredible poverty drives many into extreme circumstances where they may... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The leaders of trafficking rings plan out complex and convoluted methods to first trick the victim, then get her into the destination country, and finally to keep her complacent enough to stay in that country and not alert officials. Because of this, conviction of traffickers is very difficult and according to SIWSAG, the Sex Worker Safety Action Group of Vancouver, there have only ever been five convictions for domestic sex trafficking in Canada, and no international trafficking convictions (2009). This shows both a need for more police attention to the matter and better resources for trafficked women to encourage their escape from bondage and to begin rehabilitation. Women s sexual exploitation in Latin America is attributed to the gender based social and economic inequalities that are so prominent in the societies where machismo is an accepted norm. In addition to this, many Latin American women experience a lack of economic resources, illiteracy, civil strife from political instability, and abuse within the home. All of this may force women to look for a better life and to escape their own, making them vulnerable to forces that can exploit their needs. With the the glamourized images of economic freedom in the Global North making their way onto television screens throughout the continent, it is not difficult to see how an impoverished and abused mother from Bogota can be coerced into a waitressing job ... Michael Pollan, author of the 2007 article, Unhappy Meals and the book In Defense of Food: An Eater s Manifesto, argues for eatingfood. Not too much. Mostly plants (Pollan). People are better off eating whole fresh foods than processed food products (Pollan). He argues that nutrients are not food and he is right. Nutrients are located in food and food is nutrients. • 5. The Mexican-American Revolution Summary Scholars are quick to neglect the beginning of the fight when discussing the Mexican American struggle for justice. People claim that the first major rumblings...were heard in California in 1967, citing radicalization in universities (Rosales 175). However, they blatantly disregard the foundation for the movement as whole. The beginning of the 20th century Mexican American revolution dates back at least to depression era America, starting with the case Alvarez vs Lemon Grove, a monumental decision prohibiting de jure segregation of Mexican Americans in public school and followed by multiple other lawsuits similarly challenging segregation and discrimination (Castro). Rosales s reading does however differentiate these cases as well as early ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Pop Song Riptide Riptide is an awesome indie folk and indie pop song with a fun riff, beachy feel, steady tempo and very is unique to other songs. It was created by Vance Joy, who had been working on the song for about four years. He started in 2008, and during an interview, he had said, The words came to me without meaning, although a few lyrics relate to his personal life, such as I was scared of dentists and the dark, I was scared of pretty girls and starting conversations, where he was actually a shy kid, but the he liked the literation dentists and the dark and thought it worked well. Closest thing to Michelle Pfeiffer that you ve ever seen, was because he really likes Michelle Pfeiffer, and cowboy running from himself was from the movie, Midnight Cowboy. It was released in September 5, 2014, in Australia, and on September 9 worldwide. The album had peaked at one in Australia, two in the US and in Canada, and 20 in the UK. They have sold over 3,000,000 units over the span of three years since it came out. This song has really stood out from other songs because of how people can interpret the song their way. Some can think of the lyrics as just gibberish, but others have believed it to be a story. One person thought of it as his best friend became rich, left her, and now he is getting angry. Another thought it was a guy writing a love song to a girl he wants to ask out. People can turn the song into whatever they want it to mean, as there is so many ways that you can understand the song, which makes it different. Riptide is a very interesting, fun song with great melody, musical hook, intriguing lyrics, with a strong beat, and I highly recommend this song to anyone who is interested in different, unique ... Symbolism In The Zoo Story By Edward Albee Buvanasvari A/P Palakrisnan AEK140003 ACEA 1116 Elements of English Literature Dr. Nicholas Pagan Paper #4 Edward Albee has portrayed two characters in his play called The Zoo Story . These characters are Peter and Jerry. Both these characters display a very different role in the play. Peter works as an executive in a publishing house whereas Jerry is an abnormal person who seems to be lonely. Albee uses human isolation as his theme in the play. This can be seen when Jerry symbolize zoo to show the disconnection of relation among people. Communication with people does not occur in the zoo as we are separated from the bars in it. Peter is not the type of person who shares thoughts or experience to someone else. In the play, Jerry approached Peter first to chat. The social gap could explain Jerry s isolation where his surrounding does not encouraged him to mingle with others. Even though Jerry feels lonely but he attempted to find relationship with others. • 8. Worm In Hamlet Essay Hamlet Quotation Test Choice 1: Option 2 A man may fish with the worm that hath eat of a king, and eat of the fish that hath fed of that worm. (IV, iii, 27 28) To begin, this passage is said by Hamlet directly to his uncle Claudius. It occurs right after he has killed Polonius and is being questioned as to the whereabouts of the body. Within, Hamlet describes how a man can catch a fish with a worm that has eaten from the king and then the fish will be eaten by the man. This basically means that death is an equalizer and even someone as mighty as a King can be used as something to help feed the common man. This passage creates a vivid image of a worm decomposing a body of a King, the worm then being used to fish, and then the fish being fed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This takes place after Hamlet has killed Polonius and Claudius is talking to Laertes. The king is trying calm Laertes down after he learns Polonius s death and is also trying to guilt Laertes into helping kill Hamlet inconspicuously. The quotation tells of how Laertes would kill Hamlet in a church. This means the he would even face the wrath of God if it means he could kill Hamlet. Additionally, this line targets the Elizabethan audience. Hamlet is set in the Elizabethan era where Christianity is a huge part of the culture. Churches in that time could offer sanctuary to criminals (which means they would be safe from arrest). For the reason that churches were considered sacred murder was definitely against the law. Thus, showing that Laertes would go to extreme measures to get revenge. Also, the passage develops the conflict of the play. This is because Laertes now wants to avenge his father s death by killing Hamlet. So now, not only having to deal with Claudius, Hamlet has another fight going on. Finally, the line helps develop the theme of revenge because Laertes is stating he wants to cut the throat of Hamlet to avenge Polonius death. This quote is the answer to Claudius asking for help to kill Hamlet. Thus, these words of eagerness and hate distinctly show Laertes desire for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Artist Statement For Illegal Alien Artist Statement My still image film Illegal Alien grew from a project or series of works I created last semester. The charcoal animation in the intro was inspired by a short film, Puerta Abierta , I made in collaboration with a friend in my experimental video class. The subject matter within this short film was about feeling outcasted as a Mexican American. These themes are veiled behind a narrative; a deer wandering aimlessly throughout an empty house thus feeling out of place. Streamside Day by Pierre Huyghe was a frame of reference here because I was intrigued by the deer stumbling around an empty suburban home and what that could mean in a narrative. For this piece, I wanted to create a narrative with similar themes from Puerta Abierta ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Sttylistic Devices In Tim I Carried By Tim OBrien One stylistic device that O Brien uses is repetition. O Brien frequently repeats occasions, usually adding additional detail with each repeat. One example of this is the moment of when Kiowa died. He retold this story five times, this is the center of most of the novel s action and the motivation for most of the characters development. The repetition is a stylistic device O Brien adds to stretch the truth of a story by adding and subtracting detail. The effect of this for a reader is a feeling that shows O Brien s obsession with the stories he tells, because they always run through his memories. His repetitions expose the reader to no possibility of change to the soldiers and what he sees and experiences on a daily basis. This also gives the reader a sense of confidence with the soldiers and their hellish moments in Vietnam.Tim O Brien uses repetition so we remember and understand what the soldiers have done. In warfare it is very easy to talk about everybody as a group. Which means that repetition of names, phrases, and the things they carry makes them individuals. O Brien frequently uses repetition to emphasize the pain of the men. They carried is repeated over and over again showing the hardships of the soldiers. They carried their fear, love, shame, and guilt on top of the intense weight of their gear. The memories that the soldiers carry, the emotional pain and weight, can be far more burdensome than the physical items the men carry. Tim O Brien also keeps using ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Genre Of Music Essay Our data showed some interesting trends for each genre of music. While many of our tests fell in line with what we predicted with our hypothesis, we did have some outliers that we did not account for. As stated previously, we started by testing the resting heart rate of our subjects as our constant. The overall average of our subjects heart rates was 69.92 BPM which falls in line with the standard average. However, some subjects had a harder time relaxing completely while being tested and therefore had a higher resting heart rate. Once the resting heart rate was established, we were then able to compare the heart rates while the subjects were listening to music and see if we could find a significant difference that supported our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another explanation for these increases could be that several subjects started dancing in their seats when they heard the song. The physical movement could have been a cause for the raise in the heart rates. These increases also fit what we originally predicted in our original hypothesis. The final genre that we tested was classical music and we used Adagio for Strings by Samuel Barber. The average heart rate for this song was 70.12 BPM which is just a 0.20 difference from the resting average. • 14. Persuasive Speech On Estate Planning Paul and Christine, thank you for allowing me to speak with you today regarding your estate plan. This is one of the most vital aspects of a financial plan, and we need to discuss several areas to make sure that your wishes are honored in the event of your death or incapacity. Today we will discuss the areas in which I believe need your immediate attention, a durable power of attorney and health care proxies. Additionally, we will cover some estate planning ideas for your two children, Peggy and Ron, along with Paul s mother, Claire. In addition to the simple will, I would suggest that both of you go to see an estate planning attorney and have them establish a medical durable power of attorney, a living will, and a general durable power of attorney for each of you. It is ok to name the spouse as the agent for each other but it is also essential to place in the document a successor agent in case your primary agent is deceased. When choosing that person, make sure that you have a conversation with that person to make sure that they know your wishes and desires in terms of financial and medical decisions that they might have to make. For Paul s mother Claire, she also needs the same three documents. Even though her only source of income is her Social Security Benefits, a durable power of attorney is necessary if she needs someone to write checks or deposit checks. For Claire, it is important to have these documents executed while she is still medically competent because if you wait until after she is declared incompetent, the process becomes more difficult. Ron and Peggy also would need a medical durable power of attorney, a living will, and a durable power of attorney. Cinematic Techniques In American Beauty I utilize two scenes from the movie American Beauty, the two office scenes including Lester (Kevin Spacey) and Brad (Barry Del Sherman). The cinematic techniques are identified with mise en scene, which is the term used to portray everything put into the scene . The low edge mid shot accentuates his energy, particularly when compared with the high point wide shot of Lester that we just took a gander at. At the point when Brad stands up, the low edge shot is further stressed. Outwardly, Brad is displayed as being prevailing. • 16. Essay on The Turn of the Screw by Henry James How far does The Turn of the Screw conform to the conventions of the Victorian ghost story genre? What alternative interpretations does it lend itself to? The Turn of the Screw was written by Henry James in the nineteenth century, when the belief that living people were in contact with the dead was prevalent. In the Victorian era the advance of science was undermining religious beliefs, because evolutionists were saying that the world had not been created in 4004BC, as the bible suggests. Therefore, the possibility of contacting the spirits restored some faith in the non material world. The era it was written in does suggest that The Turn of the Screw is merely a classic ghost story, but Henry James has integrated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the reader then discovers that the manuscript is kept in a locked drawer and has not been out for years due to the dreadful dreadfulness! of the tale, the mysterious atmosphere is strengthened. It is at this point in the novel that Henry James ensures that the reader will finish reading the book, because they will want to know what the Governess is hiding and why. One of the obvious reasons for this, to the reader, is that the Governess did not want anyone to hear her story due to it s hard hitting content. This reason is made apparent to the reader from the metaphor Turn of the Screw , which gives the impression that the story will have a deep emotional impact on them like a screw being forced into a wall. Adding a particular touch to the story are the two children, who give the effect of two turns . This shows the reader that the story will have a deeper impact on them than they originally thought, because the depth of the screw is dictated by the amount of turns forced upon it and also represents the impression made on the reader. Consequently, if the screw is turned twice then the story will have twice the impact. Douglas wincing grimace at the thought of the story supports the reader s assumption that The Turn of the Screw is a horrific ghost story, but nothing more psychological than that. However, alternative interpretations suggest that the prologue is used ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A decent amount of people who weightlift and exercise on a daily basis believe that in order to lose or gain weight and achieve their desired body, they must eat clean foods. In other words, they avoid foods that are fried, oily, and high in fats and carbs and only eat foods that are low in calories, fats, and carbs. They believe that tracking calories, fats, carbs, and proteins, is unnecessary as long as you eat the right food. By segregating foods into good and bad, they are limited to only so many foods and eventually; they will become sick of eating the same foods over and over. However, with flexible dieting, such as (IIFYM), short for If It Fits Your Macros , people can lose or gain weight by tracking calories, micro and macronutrients. By doing so, they are free to eat whatever they please as long as they hit their calories, macronutrients, and micronutrients for the day. The flexible dieting program, IIFYM, is based on an idea that as long as what you are eating hits your macronutrient goals of fats, carbs, proteins, and fibers, then it is okay to eat it. With that being said, people who track their calories and macronutrients can eat what they want without feeling guilty about themselves. People who eat clean often gain weight because they are not tracking the amount of calories they are consuming and eating clean leads to eating ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. Rene Descartes Wax Argument Descartes uses the wax argument in order to present his observations in Mediation II . He starts off by discussing a piece of wax (a body) as fresh from honeycomb. He then provides a detailed description of it through what his senses perceive. For example, he describes, Its color, shape size are plain to see; it is hard, cold...if you rap it with your knuckle it makes a sound (Descartes 1988, p.84). He then puts the wax by fire wherein it melts and all the qualities we had earlier perceived of it disappear. As a result, Descartes questions that if we eliminate the qualities observed by our sense perception of a body, can we still claim that the body remains? To clarify, although our initial perception of the wax differs from our perception now of the wax, we still agree that that the same wax is present: It must be admitted that it does; no one denies it, no one thinks otherwise (Descartes 1988, p.84).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With this in mind, he strongly argues that the sensory perceptions only recognize the qualities of that body of wax in which the wax presented itself to us. He moves on to saying that by eliminating the qualities that we now identify as unessential in order to distinguish the wax, we now have something that is extended, flexible, and changeable (Descartes 1988, p. 84). Therefore, he clarifies that our sensory perceptions or imagination are not capable enough in order to distinguish a piece of wax, rather this is the sole judgment of the mind. For example, although we can imagine the wax to undergo certain changes and still have the remaining qualities of being extended, flexible, etc... we cannot imagine all the possible changes because that is outside of the parameters of the ... In 1937 the Australian Associated Stock Exchange(AASE) was to establish to secure rules for brokers and commission rates. Representatives from each exchange were present to represent their exchange at the AASE. Up until 1960 trades were made by a call system in which the names of each company was called out and broker put in their bids. Post 1960s the system changed and they hired employees called chalkies who wrote bids and offers on a board throughout the trading hours and recorded all transactions. On April 1st, 1987 the Australian Parliament formed the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX). This caused the merging of all six independent stock exchanges throughout the country into one national exchange instead of six separate state run institutions. Along with establishing a national exchange they also launched a new trading system call the Stock Exchange Automated Trading System (SEATS), in response to the increased volume of exchanges. This was a significant improvement from the chalk and board method, which had been used for almost a century. Sweatshops generally are factories that provide workers with socially unacceptable working conditions, especially dealing with clothing items. With the expanding apparel industries around the world, more and more corporations are using sweatshop factories to their advantage. Numerous companies claim that they are not responsible for actions of those factories from which they purchase from because it is not part of their corporation. However, action needs to be taken by the government and individual corporations to improve the working conditions in sweatshop factories. Due to the harsh working environment, insufficient pay, and other factors that cause inhumane treatment of workers in sweatshops, the US government should improve working conditions for workers, have stricter regulations on sweatshops, and strive to improve the treatment of sweatshop workers across the globe. Sweatshop proponents argue that even though sweatshops may not provide the best working conditions for workers, it at least provides a job for those who are in desperate need of one. Managementfocused on lowering the line cost level expense (J. Randel Kuhn Sutton, 2006). It carried out two improper accounting methods to reduce the amount of line costs (Beresford, Katzenbach, C.B. Rogers, 2003). First, it released the accruals, the amounts kept aside on WorldCom s financial statements to pay expected bills which is also called cookie jar reserve from 1999 2000 (Beresford, Katzenbach, C.B. Rogers, 2003). These accruals were supposed to reflect the estimate line costs and other expenses that WorldCom had not yet paid (Beresford, Katzenbach, C.B. Rogers, 2003). Releasing the accrual is appropriate when it turns out that less is needed to pay the bills than has been expected to pay. Instead, WorldCom provided offset against reported line costs when the accrual was released which reduced reported expenses and increased pre tax income (Beresford, Katzenbach, C.B. Rogers, 2003). When the accruals started to run out, WorldCom came up with another method, capitalization of line costs. WorldCom started classifying ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These effects affect virtually every aspect of their society. As stated in Historical. The First positive reason it had is that they could say that the gods did anything they couldn t explain. They said this because the gods were supposedly in control of every part of daily life. Such as the weather, crops, love, money, business, earthquakes, phases of the moon, and if a loaf of bread burned in the oven. As stated in Document two. That seems like a crazy thing to see that people used to do but that is our history That was one of their most positive reasons to believe in the gods. You had someone to blame for everything and there was many of them so you could say it was any of them. That s the first positive effect it had on the Ancient Greeks. The second positive (and negative) reason is where they used to live Its a positive effect effects because the view was spectacular. They lived on Thera which is one of the most picturesque islands of Greece. As stated in Document three. Picturesque means a delightful, striking, or quaint view. • 40. The Presentation Of Self As A Work Developed By... The Presentation of Self In Everyday Life is a work developed by noted sociologist Erving Goffman. In it, Goffman details the sociological perspective of our social interactions. He uses the metaphor of theatre to better understand the complexities surrounding interactions; it is from this seminal text that we establish words from the dramaturgical framework such as performance, backstage, front stage, and costume as illustrations of interactionism. He begins the book by addressing the idea of performance. For Goffman, performance refers to all the activity of any individual which occurs during a period marked by his continuous presence before a particular set of observers and which has some influence on the observers. (Goffman, 1959) In other words, performance is an analogy in reference to how a person acts, in both the front stage and backstage, for their audience. Because in every social interaction we are putting on a performance, Goffman believes that we each have a role as well. As with a theatrical production, the front stage and the back stage are critical in understanding how the interaction between individual and audience is carried out. The front stage or region is where the superior more desirable impressions of the self are brought forth; in the background, actors display a private and more nuanced version of the self as they consider this place separate from the role they play in society. There is also the idea of offstage, which Goffman argues is the place ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Originally it was claimed that personality was determined by birth order and even now there are many stereotypes of the firstborn being mature and driven while the youngest child is often described as wild and rebellious (Bleske Rechek and Kelley, 2013). Both Birth order and personality: A within family test using independent self reports from both firstborn and later born siblings and Examining the effects of birth order on personality came to the same conclusion. With both study s results supporting each other it can be said that an individual s personality is unaffected by the order they are born within their family. Intelligence Intelligence is a fair amount easier to measure on account of IQ (Intelligence quotient) tests. That said many researchers have conducted studies on a possible connection between intelligence and birth order. What studies such as Examining the effects of birth order on personality have found is that firstborns do slightly better on intelligence tests (Rohrer, Egloff, and Schmukle, 2015). The battle, which took place during June of 1944, took out most of the enemy s carrier based planes, along with their pilots, leading to the successful invasion of the Philippines and Marianas, which served as land based airfields that were close enough to launch attacks of the Japanese homeland. On June 19, 1944, as TF 58 got closer, the Japanese, whose aircraft had longer ranges, launched the first wave of aircraft. However, the incoming planes were quickly spotted, which gave Admiral Mitscher enough time to ensure a large number of his planes were in the air before the enemy got too close to Saipan, which Spruance was intent on protecting. Consequently, Ozawa s aircraft were intercepted and many were shot down. Around this time, torpedoes from US submarines struck and sank 2 Japanese carriers. Many more enemy aircraft waves were launched to attack TF 58; however, a very small number actually reached US ships. Japanese forces only landed one hit on a US ship throughout the entire battle. The Mozart Effect and Infant Intelligence In modern society intelligence is highly competitive and subject to scrutiny; therefore, it is understandable that a child s intelligence is a primary concern for many parents. The Mozart effect, popularised in the 1990s, resulted in many parents believing that simply exposing their child to music composed by Mozart would improve their intelligence(Campbell, 1997). The claim was founded by research published in the journal Nature, which suggested that spatial reasoning could be temporarily enhanced by listening to one of Mozart s compositions for ten minutes (Rauscher, Shaw Ky, 1993). It will be argued that there is not sufficient evidence to support the claim that playing Mozart to babies will increase their intelligence. Firstly, the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The study showed no empirical evidence that listening to Mozart is more beneficial for children than ulterior conditions (Hui, 2007). This disproves the belief that listening to Mozart makes a child smarter also making the generalization from the Rauscher et al (1993) inconclusive. There are also a number of other factors that have been overlooked when comparing the finding of the original study to the Mozart effect in children. Another discerning factor expressed in the original study was the test used to assess intelligence between the participants. The portion of the Stanford Binet test used in the original study focuses on one aspect of intelligence, namely, spatial reasoning (Rauscher et al, 1993). Therefore, it would be invalid to assume that high scores on this specific test delineate an increase in overall general intelligence. The test itself is also bias as specific cultures outperform others, as cultural environment has an influence on intelligence, which may lead to deficits in the results found (Weinberg, 1989). An angle of vision is not simply written, it is carefully and deliberately constructed through the proper use of five rhetorical strategies. Word Choice, Sentence Structure, Overt Statements, Figurative Language, and Selection and Omission of Details are the strategies used by writers to create the angle of vision. To understand these strategies I have written two paragraphs that are similar in description yet carry vastly different angles of vision. Word choice is the intentional use of certain vocabulary that carries certain connotations which enhance the angle of vision of the writer. Smaug s Theme is in 4/4 (simple duple) time and starts out slow, before an accelerando, eventually hitting 180bpm, which represents the movie s rapid change of pace. This represents the drift from a conversation, to a dragon hunting down the company to kill them. Through the rhythm and dynamics, it is clear that Howard Shore s Smaug s Theme has successfully highlighted the style of the film. Smaug is very magnificent and grand, yet treacherous and cunning. In terms of the timbre of Smaug s Theme, a symphony orchestra is used with the strings and brass being the most prominent, plus a few extra instruments such as an Indonesian gamelan and finger cymbals. Little woodwind is heard, with flute and clarinet making a few solo appearances. The lower brass, particularly the tuba and trombone, represent Smaug, and his enormous, powerful, and deceivingly slow manner. The violins play a large range of pitches and depict the beautiful, yet eerie emptiness of the halls under the mountain and how it has an immense dread feel to it.
