What goods and services does a government want to provide? To what extent does it believe in
subsidizing firms? What are its priorities in terms of business support? Political decisions can
impact on many vital areas for business such as the education of the workforce, the health of the
nation and the quality of the infrastructure of the economy such as the road and rail system. *
Economic Factors
These include interest rates, taxation changes, economic growth, inflation and exchange rates. As
it can be seen throughout the Foundations of Economics book economic change can have a
major impact on a firm s behavior. For examples, * higher interest rates may deter investment
because it costs more to borrow * a strong currency may make exporting more difficult because it
may raise the price in terms of foreign currency * inflation may provoke higher wage demands
from employees and raise cost * national income growth may boost demand for a firm s products
* Social Factors
Changes in social trends can impact on the demand for a firm s products and the availability and
willingness of individuals to work. In the UK, for example, the population has been ageing. This
has increased the costs for firms who are committed to pension payments for their employees
because their staff is living longer.
It also means some firms such as Asda have started to recruit older employees to tap into this
growing labor pool. The

horrific crash occurred on Tuesday 2nd July 2015 where 16 people were hit by an empty

at Alton Towers the Resort was closed for 6 days, which left a massive impact on sales, shares

Samuel Johnson Are The Guardians Of The English Language
Drawing on the discussion of Samuel Johnson s Dictionary in Reading B ofUnit 2, critically
evaluate Mitchell s (2005) claim that, while grammarians were the guardians of the English
language in the seventeenth century, lexicographers assumed that role in the eighteenth century .
The rules and explanations of Grammar are different than texts and language in terms of words,
sounds, sentences, and some other elements of language too. Grammar works on combined
explanation of language and interpretations as well. The publication of Samuel Johnson got
popularity all over the world in the history of English language. He worked more than nine years
to writing such as an impressing book for the English learners .

Samuel Johnson wrote a dictionary A Dictionary of the English Languagein 1755. In his time, his
dictionary was the best comprehensive, compiled and synchronized dictionary. It was very
standardized and complete in itself that remains of a century. The dictionary was published in two
editions. In the very first edition, he writes about the Grammar and the history of the English

William Shakespeare, John Dryden and John Milton. And later in another edition more quotes and
words were added . (Ashurbanipal,

Langston Hughes Influence On Harlem Renaissance
The Harlem Renaissance, occurring from the end of World War I to the Great Depression, was a
colorful explosion of artistic, social, and cultural movements. Acting as the center of this explosion,
Harlem drew upon the talents of many great African American writers, poets, musicians, and artists.
One such great talent was Langston Hughes. Langston Hughes wrote many essays, short stories,
and poems with the common theme of celebrating and vocalizing African Americanculture. Hughes
s representation Harlem changed and varied throughout his life, and is reflected in his numerous
poems. For much of his early body of work, Hughes viewed Harlem as a glittering and vibrant
neighborhood. However, as the peak of the movement dropped off into the doldrums of the Great
Depression, Hughes work took on a more cynical view towards Harlem. Harlem came to represent
the lost dreams of its citizens. This change in Hughes s ideals can be traced back to both... Show

The area is most recognized for the Harlem Renaissance taking place during the 1920 s. Yet, many
events had to occur in order for the area to reach its cultural zenith. Originally, the Lenape Indians
occupied Harlem until Franco Dutch settlers arrived. In 1664, the English then triumphed over the
Dutch and they led New York into the Revolutionary War era. For much of the early 19th century,
Harlem remained a small, yet fashionable settlement. The Harlem Railroad as well as the Civil
War brought even more wealth and infrastructure to the area. However, the Panic of Harlem in
1937, caused by the large amount of poor immigrants, initiated the city of New York to annex the
neighborhood. This annexation proved to be a good thing for Harlem, as an economic recovery
triggered new life and the opportunity to examine a fascinating new culture (Osborne, Boghani). As
Harlem was brought into the 20th century, the upcoming Harlem Renaissance began to

Dunkirk Research Paper
During the evacuation of Dunkirk in 1940 ships from the Royal Navy as well as hundreds of
civilian ships helped to save the thousands of stranded soldiers. But one is well known, a paddle
steamer named The Medway Queen made a total of seven round trips to Dunkirk, successfully
rescuing more than 7,000 soldiers. Today, many movies have depicted different parts of World
War 2, Dunkirk directed by Christopher Nolan has caused enthusiasm about the specific event.
Many movie critics have been trying to find what s fact against what s fiction. The hit movie
Dunkirk stays true to the real life events of the evacuation in WW2. The evacuation, also known
as Operation Dynamo was named after the dynamo room that generated electricity for the
British Naval Headquarters located in the secret tunnels underneath Dover Castle (Dunkirk
Movie vs. the True Story). The operation itself was to get over 400,000 British troops that were
stranded on the coast of Dunkirk, France. The thousands of men were at a very high risk for an
attack from the German air forces blitzkrieg. The film itself focuses on a very important part of

The film raised a lot of questions about the true life events, one was that if the movie stayed truer
or if it was more fiction. There were many parts of the movie that were reenactments of the
evacuation, like the attacks from the opposing air force. There was also some fiction like the
characters throughout the movie were not real people, yet some of them were loosely based
around real people. One thing that the movie depicted very well was the number of civilian ships

The Importance of Safety in Coal Mining Companies
Employee Safety Importance of Safety One of the most vital investments made in any mining
company is to ensure that their people return safe and sound at the end of a day of work. In the
current era of rapid industrial growth, managing the impacts of this growth on the safety and
wellbeing of employees is critical. The impact also extends towards the mining companies, overall
labor pool and the constant threat of mine closures and job losses. Whenever there is an accident or
death in a mine, companies face routine shutdowns ordered by the government for investigations,
and work stoppages by union members. This causes companies to suffer huge production losses.
Government and the Focus on Safety The government has adopted a strong stance on Coal Mining
Safety and has extended a commitment towards increasing general safety for mineworkers. It is
envisaged that greater cooperation could contribute to the safety efforts. Government continues to
engage in constructive discussions to engage with both business and labour on how to improve on
safety. Growth and Safety BHP Billiton had decided to expand its operations through the creation of
project hubs in Toronto, Santiago, Houston, Brisbane and Perth. Responsibility for the hub
establishment was given to EPMC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management)
contractors who developed the projects under the supervision of and on behalf of BHP Billiton.

India Case Study Report
1. Visits: There should be more visits and lecture tours by leading Indian and Australian jurists to
each other s country. The Australia India Council has begun this process. It has arranged for me
to return to India in January 1997 to give lectures in New Delhi, Bombay and Bangalore. Through
the good offices of my friend, and colleague in the International Commission of Jurists, Mr Fali
Nariman, the Bar Association of India has invited me to deliver a lecture in its annual series. The
Australian legal profession should reciprocate. It is hoped that the Chief Justice of India, or a
Justice of the Supreme Court of India, will, later in 1997, give return lectures in Australia. Legal

Only when the judges become aware of the jurisprudence of another country will questions be
asked of the profession that will send them searching for relevant analogies and precedents.
Subscriptions to legal periodicals are expensive. Complete collections are extremely costly. Yet a
few well planted contemporary copies of the general Australian legal review, surveying the scene (as
the Australian Law Journal does) could bear fruit. It might produce reciprocation. Both India and
Australia still look to England for legal material. Yet, in all truth, the constitutional arrangements of
Australia are much closer to those of India than are those of England. 4. Judicial training:
Consideration might be given to funding the participation of a newly appointed Indian judge or
judges in the orientations and training courses given for Australian judges. Judicial officers from
New Zealand and Papua New Guinea take part in these courses. It could be mutually beneficial to
have participation by new Indian judges. It would help stimulate the thinking of all. It would also
create friendships which would endure and expand. 5. Professional reciprocity: As India s economic
advancement continues, its importance in the global and regional economies will become more
obvious. Similarly, many Australian businesses are now looking for opportunities in the region.

My Friend Uploaded A Post On Facebook And It Got Me...
Recently my friend uploaded a post on Facebook and it got me contemplating. The question was
posed by a man named Alan Watts and he asked, What would you like to do if money were no
object? This inquiry seems to be wandering the internet a bit because this was roughly the third
time that I have regarded it, so I took it as a sign and I paused to direct this question to myself.
Of course, there is a multitude of things that I yearn to do. If money wasn t the issue like many
of us make it out to be, of course, there would be ample to do. I discern that this question is posed
more for what type of work would you do but I was thinking about stuff that I would love to do
regardless. The most predominate desire for me is to travel. I love to write and that will always be
a constant thing, but I think it would be great to do both.
I recognize that many people would have a similar response, yet my strong desire to travel made
me consider deeply as to why I had such a tenacious want for it. I believe one of the reasons why
that deep down, we still hold on to the ancient survival instinct of migration, which can never
really be satisfied. I believe that this could also hold true for me. As I think more about it, I find
that it was not really the destinations that I want to go to but the means of the journey that I wish to
experience. My husband is the one who made me conscious of this. He likes to travel and see
places as well, but just didn t understand the concept of people

Madame Bovary, By Gustave Flaubert
In the classic literary novel Madame Bovary, by Gustave Flaubert, is the family of Bovary s in
which Charles and Emma Bovary are the focal point in the story. The setting of the story takes
place in France during the 1700s where class distinctions were prominent. In this novel, there is a
theme surrounding the idea of the social classhierarchy. In the world of Madame Bovary, Emma is
stuck in conflict with the middle class of the bourgeoisie, and between the upper and lower
bourgeoisie, and the working class who are the proletariats. Even though Emma Bovary may just
be a desperate romantic looking for love and is trying to live a romanticized life from the novels
she read when she was younger, the lives of the Bovary s are affected by the... Show more content

As these sequences of events are told from Madame Bovary, Emma is trying to raise herself into
the upper bourgeoisie class where wealth, power, intelligence, and the arts lie. As described by
Karl Marx and Friedrich Engles in the Communist Manifesto, The bourgeoisie has torn away
from the family its sentimental veil, and has reduced the family relation to mere money relation.
(8) In my own opinion, these two are talking about how being in the bourgeoisie class breaks
down family relationships and values, and becomes more of a focus on obtaining the means of
greater status and wealth. In Emma Bovary s case, she begins to neglect her own daughter
Berthe, and takes advantage of Charles s naiveness to try and meet up with her lovers (Both Leon
and Rudolph). This also puts the Bovary family into debt as Emma keeps expenditure high to
achieve a lifestyle she wants. This can be seen when she makes trips and buys gifts to go see Leon
in Paris.
By building up the family debt, it puts the Bovary into the lower bourgeoisie class. Emma has
sold several of their belongings and even the rights to Charles s family estate. In part, she also has
taken out loans from Lheureus, which has been taking advantage of Emma s desperation to see
her lover Leon. In part three, chapter seven of Madame Bovary, we learn that the officers come to
the Bovary s house in Yonville to

The Battle Of War And War
There are many different components to war, far beyond the soldiers and battlefields. Soldiers
at war may make the ultimate sacrifice in the sequence of battle, but societies at war deal with
the compromise. War requires more non renewable resources than any other industry in the
world, the most abundant of those resources being humans. Since July 4, 1776 the US has been
in some sort of conflict for 222 of the 239 years since that day. Humans require more basic
necessities than any other living organism on the planet. The resources necessary to support a war
are endless and can have massive affects on industry, geopolitical structure, populations,
educational institutions, and much, much more. With The US having actively participated in war
almost the entirety of its existence, war has been impacting everyone and everything in existence
be it living or not. Humans alone, without the resources necessary to participate in war, require at
least sustenance and shelter just to sustain life. Beyond that there are human needs such as
clothing and skills to sustain life within a society. For each of these individuals it is mandatory to
obtain one outfit of clothing, one meal a day that is sufficient enough to avoid poor nutrition, one
place to sleep. For the women and women of our armed forces these needs are met and merely
more. At three meals a day, a place to sleep usually four or more to one room, and three daily
outfits including footwear, we can see the militaryis rather

Fastball Research Paper
A changeup is an offspeed pitch thrown just like a fastball except held with a different grip.
There are many ways to hold a changeup. You can palm the ball to make it slow down, or you
can use all five fingertips and hold the ball on the end of them. There is also the circle changeup
grip. This pitch is best thrown when the batter is ahead of your fastball and with the same arm
speed upon release as the fastball, so they won t see it coming.
Curveball
A curveball is a pitch thrown about as fast as a pitchers changeup but with a break on it. An
awesome 12 6 curveball moves straight up and down vertically, but some pitchers throw it with a
little horizontal movement on it. A curveball is gripped by placing your fingers on the outside of
the wide horseshoe shaped seam on the baseball. You want to throw this pitch just like a fastball
until the very end when you will snap your wrist downward letting go of the ball with an
abbreviated release and follow through putting your fingernails into your stomach.

The slider is a breaking ball but instead of moving vertically it has more of a horizontal
movement with a slight drop vertically. A slider and a curve can be thrown with the same grip
but the flick of the wrist you need to create each pitch is different. Instead of flicking your wrist
straight down like a curve you have to flick your wrist sideways. A good slider pitch looks a lot like
a fastball until the very end when it will have a sharp, late break.

Ivan Denisovich
Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn was best known for his novel, One day in the life of Ivan Denisovich,
which explores a day in the life of Ivan Denisovich, who was imprisoned in a Soviet labor camp.
Solzhenitsyn, being a previous denizen of a similar camp, effectively conveys the hardships and
dilemmas these prisoners faced through the use of dramatic irony and tone. Solzhenitsyn uses irony
to reflect his opinion that loyalty to the Soviet regime was futile and had no purpose whatsoever. He
uses the tone to express his emotions regarding the unfair imprisonment of the characters through
the analepses provided for Tiurin, Senka and Sukhov.Solzhenitsyn skillfully weaves in flashbacks

Senka, one of the team 104th quietest members, also suffers the consequences of being loyal to
the Soviet regime. Senka served the army during Hitler s attack on the Soviet Union and had
suffered on both ends: One of his eardrums had been smashed in 41 and he later had been
captured, recaptured and sent to Buchenwald (Solzhenitsyn, 45) where he smuggled in arms to
organize a mutiny (Solzhenitsyn, 57). He had tried to escape three times with no avail. The last
time he was captured he was punished by tying his wrists behind him, hanging by them and
flogging him hard (Solzhenitsyn, 59). When he finally was released back to the Soviet Union, he
charged for treason and put into this gulag. Senka, despite enduring so much physical and mental
stress to escape and organize a mutiny against the Germans in an effort to stay loyal to his home
country, lead him to the Stalinist work camps in the Soviet Union under charges of treason. Here
we see Solzhenitsyn using the ironic gap between the character s intention and outcome to once
again to condemn any effort to be loyal to the Soviet Union. Senka s flashback is also narrated
with a very apologetic tone, best seen when the narrator calls him a luckless fellow (Solzhenitsyn,
45), and describes his painful torture. Solzhenitsyn further adds elements such as Senka s
extremely broken spirit to increase reader sympathy: You re lost Senka often says, if you show
your pride too much (Solzhenitsyn, 45). This also allows the readers to better connect with Senka s
character by feeling very sorry for him. This also helps Solzhenitsyn further demonstrate the drastic,
often sad consequences of being loyal to the Soviet

1.5 Rationale for the study
Backing out of job offers is a big issue especially in country like India because of the bullish job
market. Market has become filthy now a days, guys are playing with the Offer Letters... they try to
get one offer and play around with other companies to get more than what he had in that offer.
Recruitment is an expensive activity. Every time a candidate backs out the recruitment process
has to be initiated all over again. Good amount of time and effort is wasted to find a new
replacement and projects can and do get delayed and all these translates to revenue loss. But most
important of all is the loss of client s trust. This is intangible and will have long term adverse effect
vis Г vis client vendor relationship. Hence the study to find the areas where WIPRO fails in
retaining recruited candidates .

African Americans In John Dunbar s Dancing With Wolves
Many African Americans wanted to stand up for what was right for them as a human being, and
be treated just as equal to white people. In Dancing with Wolves John Dunbar was put to a
station called Fort Sedgwick. The Fort was on the Indians territory and John has never seen an
Indian. He had heard that they were savages, but instead of waiting for the Indians to find him
John went out to find the Indians. When John first met the Indians he didn t really know what to
think. They kind of freaked him out and wasn t sure if they would kill him. After the first time
they met they met more times and John would show them new things like coffee, food, and
trying to speak English and the Indians would do the same. After awhile John was close to the
Indians and was always with them and they gave him the name Dances with Wolves due to a

Digital Literacy

In today s world it is a requirement to be digitally literate in order to be able to function in a
capacity that enables one to be more successful whether it is at home, school, at our jobs or even
looking for a job. Over the last few decades our environment has evolved into a digital
environment. Being or becoming digitally literate is essential in being successful in this digital
environment. Almost everything we do today requires some sort of digital knowledge or literacy.

Most of the employers out there put all of their information online and to be able to apply for
that job, you have to use a computer. That applies to submitting your resume as well. The days of
going from business to business, filling out applications and turning in resumes are long gone.
Nowadays when you go to a business to apply for a job, they tell you to go online to their website
and apply there. Being digitally literate also relates to the everyday things that we do such as reading
the newspaper or a magazine or even writing a letter. Most newspapers and magazines can be
found online today and that can make things easier for us in our day to day lives. With that
technology, we no longer have to carry around some giant newspaper or even a magazine. We
have the ability to put them on our computers of even an iPad and access them from anywhere that
you have internet access. Plus having this technology allows us to be able to search for certain
articles without having to scan through an entire newspaper or magazine. Along with having the
ability to read newspapers and magazines digitally, those companies are also adding more pictures
and links that just add that much more to the stories. Even the newspaper companies such as the
New York Times have evolved with this digital trend by adding more color photos, charts, different
fonts and even colored fonts in an attempt to make their publications more attractive. While there

What Is The Spiritual Path Essay
I have walked the spiritual path for 30 years, and I have been studying various spiritual teachings.
I have also been involved with several organizations and spiritual teachers. I have friends who have
been involved with more teachers, and I ve watched hundreds of people have been struggling with
a spiritual path. Based on my experience and observation, I have come to one conclusion is clear.
The difference between those who succeed on the spiritual path and those who continue to struggle
with the frustration is how they view the concept of teachers.
Push button mentality If you take a step back and see the big picture, the essence of the spiritual
path (or life, really) is to come out of ignorance and into understanding, out of the darkness and into
terang in mind, that is. There is an old adage that states, if people knew better, they would do better.

Why do people feel frustrated As well programmed our customers, we choose products that look
attractive to us and eagerly began to consume it. But after a while usually a short time we started to
feel like someone who has flipped the switch, but the light has not come. So we keep on flipping
the switch on and off, and while we could hear the click, the light will not come. This is usually
when we start to feel frustrated, and we may even take it out on the teacher or teaching that does
not seem to work.
I personally have felt this frustration and I have seen in many others. It is quite understandable,
especially when one considers that so many teachers or organizations who make promises they can
not deliver. They have also been caught up in a consumer s approach to spiritual growth, and they
have either consciously or intentionally decided to tell people what they want to hear. So what do
we do? Well, some people give up there and never tried again. Yet most of us do not give up

The Postbellum Southern Disillusionment In Wash Analysis
The Postbellum Southern Disillusionment in Wash According to German philosopher Friedrich
Nietzsche, exercising and expanding one s personal power is all that one wants (Nietzsche 36). He
argues that we hurt those to whom we need to make our power perceptible, [and] we benefit and
show benevolence toward those who already depend on us in some way (36). Per this logic,
individuals who exhibit generosity feel content with their current influence on the world while
those who act injuriously yearn for more control over their peers. It is not surprising, then, that the

the general Southern attitude perpetuating inequality. He believes wholly in his master, and
remarks Well Kernel ... they kilt us but they ain t whupped us yit, air they? (Faulkner 132). Wash
alters his own self perception in a desperate attempt of self elevation, convincing himself that the
world in which he sensed always about him mocking echoes of black laughter was but a dream
and an illusion, and that the actual world was this one across which his own lonely apotheosis
seemed to gallop on the black thoroughbred (132). Wash s Platonic conception of himself is
merely a plebian emulation of the man he reveres most: Thomas Sutpen. He imagines himself in a
position of power atop Sutpen s black stallion, with all of the marks of representative power. When
subjected to the verbal degradation that he experiences at the tongues of the slaves calling him
white trash (Faulkner 130), Wash attempts to escape the reality of his dismal situation by
fabricating a fictitious existence with limited verisimilitude. Wash s puerile dismissal of his forlorn
situation reflects many white Southerners general denial of the upshot of the Civil War while in
fact they are defeated, they refuse to accept this adverse reality. In addition to using examples of

The Liberties, Ideologies, And Effects Of Hacktivism
This paper discusses the liberties, ideologies, and effects of hacktivism. Hacktivism, is the
combination of hacking and activism, and is where a hacker creates a technology centered
disturbance with a political or social motive. Unlawful hackers typically cause cyber damage for
amusement, or monetary gain. While traditional hackers are perceived as criminals, hacktivists are
a transgressive group. Cyberterrorism is the most extreme version of hacking, where the goal is to
cause permanent damage. There are benefits to hacktivismsuch as, anyone can log on and share
their opinion, regardless of their location or position. However, some forms of hacktivism may be
closer to cyberterrorism, where there may be a malicious intent. Controversy... Show more content

In reality, hackers are a variety of people, with a range of reasons for what they do. Hacking began
in the late seventies and early eighties out of curiosity. Quickly, people began to realize the potential
for destruction through cyber attacks. From 2008 to 2012, the hacktivist group Anonymous, became
prevalent, because pretty much any amateur with a cause what kind of cause could join
Anonymous.. But after several group figureheads were arrested, the general public was deterred
from participating this hacktivist group.
From 2012 to the present, the door opened for hacktivist specialists beyond Anonymous, to cause
destruction. Hacktivism has shifted from large amounts of amateurs causing minimal damage, to
small amounts of hacking specialists causing tremendous amounts of damage. Due to the fact
that the Internet is largely privatized, it is very hard for hacktivists to get their point across to a
large number of people without breaking the law. So, a free speech space needs to be established
online to ensure that everyone has a chance to speak their mind on a digital sidewalk. The
extreme side of hacktivism is cyberterrorism. Terrorist groups like ISIS have begun to hire
specialists to wage cyberwar for their religious and political gain. The Internet battlefield has
become just as important as a physical one.
However, not all hackers are terrorists, criminals, or even hacktivists. Some hackers take up

The Performance Of Sense And Sensibility
I went to the performance of Sense and Sensibility on Thursday night and I sat in the second row,
which was very close to the performance. The layout of the theatre definitely provided a different
perspective depending on where the audience member sat. The theatre was close to completely
filled, but there were still a few seats that were empty. Overall the show was my favorite one yet
that I have attended at W L. Sense and Sensibilityis written by Kate Hamill who based the script
off the novel that was written by Jane Austen. The performance was directed by Stephanie
Sandberg and it was presented by the W L Department of Theater, Dance, and Film Studies with
special arrangements from Dramatists Play Service Inc. The performers were made up of
predominately W L students and after reading their bios it became clear to me that the performers
come from many different backgrounds and they have varying levels of experience performing.
The audience was made up of primarily elderly couples and families from the surrounding
Rockbridge area. I saw some professors in the audience with their families which was great to see.
W L students were definitely the minority in the audience that night. The audience reacted very
strongly to the actors performance and some members in the front row were actually part of the
performance. The room was very tight and was surrounded by stands where the audience was only
feet from the actual performance. During the performance the

2.2 Explain How To Manage A Site Drainage
2.1 How to manage the site drainage and its importance.
Site drainage management is aim to safeguard the house inhabitants and protect the house from
several damage cause by surface water and both internal and external inappropriate moisture
(Master builders, 2009).
Site drainage management is a very important part of the design of footing system. It is because the
site drainage could influence the success of the footing system, the maintenance of the site drainage
influencing the economic life of the building and the site drainage plan is required to be
documented (AS2870, 2011). In the AS2870, there is a detailed drainage requirement helping
owner builders to know how to manage drainage and the several factors influencing the site

There are several soil results might happen after the tree removal in this case, from limited
influence to significant damage. As this case just mentioned the site soil classification of this
reclaimed land is H1 but not mention the soil type. If it s sandy area, removal trees might cause
less damage to the soil because sand does not swell or shrink with changes in moisture (Victorian
building authority, 2015). However, if these trees are used to take more moisture from the
underground water system in clay soil land, the tree removal land will become more wet or dry
due to the different surrounding agricultural situation. For example, if there are heavy rainy after
the tree removal and there are no other trees or shrubs around the site, too much accumulated
water will stay on the hole and change the clay soils to be more reactive. On the other hand, if
there are other big trees and shrubs around the site, the extra moisture will be absorbed by these
trees and the site soil is going to be dry. Thus, the classification of the soil will be changed and it
lead to change the footing construction system as well. All in all, tree conditions should be
considered before the removal and a more careful site filling and cleaning jobs should be

The Legal Definition Of A Duty Of Care And Negligence
The legal definition of a duty of care and negligence is very complex. It primary concerns itself with
relationship between the defendant and the claimant, it must be established that there is an
obligation upon the defendant to take proper care to avoid causing injury to the claimant in all
circumstances.
Determining negligence is not always easy. Before 1932 there was no generalised duty of care in
negligence. The tort did exist but it was only applied in particular situations where the courts had
decided that a duty should be owed, e.g., road accidents, bailments or dangerous goods. Third
parties who suffered as a result of a breach of contract had no remedy, because they were not a part
to the contract and thus excluded by the doctrine of privity, which means that only parties to
contracts should be able to sue to enforce their rights or claim damages.
The idea of a duty of care in the tort of negligence has been developed over the years through
judges making decisions in high profile cases. In a ground breaking case and milestone in
Donoghue v Stevenson [1932] AC 562, an opportunity had arisen for Lord Atkin to formulate the
neighbour principle . By doing so It created the and laid down the foundations of modern law on
negligence, by setting out general principles whereby one person would owe a duty of care to
another person.
Facts:May Donoghue, a shop assistant, met a friend at the Well meadow cafe in Paisley, near
Glasgow. Upon arrival Ms Donoghue s friend

How Does Liesel Use Irony In The Book Thief
When one thinks of a thief, they think of sneaky men in black masks trying to steal a precious
jewel. However, in The Book Thief the thief is in fact not a man in a black mask but a girl. The
definition of a thief is someone who steals items of important value resulting in negative
consequences for the victim. Instead, in the novel, when the main character, Liesel, steals books,
they have a positive effect on the people that she stole it from and even the people she comes in
contact with. This is why it is ironic that the title of the novel is The Book Thief , because Liesel
in a way isn t really a thief. Throughout the book there are multiple signs that point to the fact that

Liesel from now on starts stealing books; but is she really stealing them? Throughout the book,
Death says that Liesel is stealing these books, but when examined closely, it seems as if some of
the books she stole weren t really stolen, but rather given to her in an indirect way. During Liesel
s first days as a Hubermann, she gets to meet Ilsa Hermann, the cold and distant wife of the
mayor, who at this point in the book, appears to be another lazy privileged client of Rosa
Hubermann, the hardworking, underprivileged service provider. However, as the book
progresses the importance of Ilsa Hermann increases because of something she possesses.
Books. Ilsa Hermann has a lot of them, so much that it attracted one girl. Liesel Hubermann. The
skinny and orphaned girl who has an obsession for these bundles filled with words, that speak to
her in different ways. Some of these words are evocative; other words are didactic, teaching
Liesel many lessons on how to cope with life. To Liesel, books are as valuable as a diamond is to
a thief. For example, when Liesel and Ilsa meet for the second time, Ilsa invites Liesel into her
mausoleum of a house. What Liesel saw next would have impressed any bibliophile: rows and
rows, stacks and stacks full of one thing. Books. Like a child entering his first candy store, was

Modern Times Directed By Charlie Chaplin
In the film Modern Times directed by Charlie Chaplin, like most of society Chaplin s Tramp
character yearns for a slice of the American Dream. Struggling to conform to societal norms, the
Tramp unsuccessfully attempts to reach the upper middle class bliss that he desires. In his
endeavors, the Tramp ends up in jail but ironically, it is in the confinement of prison where the
Tramp feels most comfortable and that his individuality is best appreciated. I will argue that
through his use of strategic framing and camera angles, Chaplin presents the prison as a place
that the Tramp believes is the one place he is respected and can truly be free when in reality, it is
nothing more than an illusion. Chaplin strategically frames his shots to show hidden truths. An
example of this is when an officer going to summon the Tramp to the sheriff s office. Chaplin
often leaves lots of headroom to make the characters appear smaller in the frame. In this shot
however, he uses a closer shot with just enough headroom for the approaching guard. This
makes the shot feel cozy and snug, just like how the Tramp feels about his cell. This is the
closest thing to a proper home that he has ever seen, with food and a roof over his head. It is
almost as if the Tramp is no longer in prison. Although the key is in the lock, the Tramp does not
seize the opportunity to escape. The guards treat the Tramp with respect and as if he was an
average citizen, something very few people show him. This shot is

Food Assistance Program Essay
Introductory Summary
Today the majority of our farm bill is dedicated to food assistance programs. In 2013 through the
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance program (SNAP) the U.S fed 47.6 million citizens at the cost
of 76.4 billion. Another food assistance program called WIC has fed 9 million woman, infants,
and children at the price of 7 billion. The American government is doing a tremendous job at
feeding the less fortunate through these programs but like many programs they need to be
improved. Through the SNAP program participants are able to spend taxpayer money on sugar
filled soft drinks and candy. The new bill that is being prepared will limit the purchase of these
unnecessary products. This bill will restrict participants to simple food staples such as bread, beans,
fruit, vegetables and rice. The new bill will also add white potatoes to the WIC program. These
changes that need to be made will contribute in boosting the demand of multiple commodities and
help eliminate unneeded aid to unhealthy foods.

decrease in demand will lower the price of rice back to the original equilibrium price. In the short

Male And Female Rapper Through Their Music
Male vs. Female rapper through their music Rap music is really popular to us, young people,
and sometimes adults, too. In my opinion, I think that rap is a way to allow all of the rappers to
express themselves, their voices, their experience, and their feeling from their life. And in some
other people opinion, they also describe rap music as the story or the voice of the streets.
According to a music articles The birth of Rap: A Look Back from NPR.org website, rap music
was born and began to develop in the middle of year 1970s. They are firstly formed and played
by the Black communities, and then slowly spread out to the world. In rap world, at first they are
only male rappers who use music to express themselves and their pain towards the world. Then,
women also began to rap to be able to express their thoughts more and more. Female and male
rapper are sharing the same purpose of express themselves through their songbut they are different
in the way they use their lyrics, the subject they choose to rap on and the feeling they express to
their fans and their songs listeners.
Female and male rappers are separate themselves when they come to choose their lyrics to rap. I
would say that female rappers are most likely less using negative words to describe thing or
someone else than the male rappers. According to the article From Fly Girls To Bitches and Hos
by Joan Morgan, she stated that male rapper is usually use the word Bitches and Hos when they

Female Priests And The Gender Inequality Within The...
Female priests and the gender inequality within the Catholic Church
From the rampant persecution of science and inquiry during the Age of Enlightenment, to the
condemnation of abortion and the use of contraceptives in the most HIV/AIDS ridden regions of
Africa today, the Catholic Church has nearly always been the thorn in the side of progressive ideas,
movements, organizations, and institutions. Today the Catholic Churchremains one of the largest
religious entities on the planet, with nineteen percent of the world s population and a half of all
Christians adhering to its religious doctrines ( Catholic Desires for Change ). Catholicism is unique
among Christian secs for its incredibly long history and staunch traditionalism. The church structure
has remained almost unchanged since the time of the Roman Empire, and its doctrines are slow
evolving at best. The Catholic Church only recently amended its stance on the heliocentric nature
of the solar system, when in nineteen ninety two Pope John Paul II exonerated Galileo Galilei s
crimes of heresy, three centuries after the man s death (Cowell, 1992). As many western institutions
begin to diversify their gender and ethnic makeup, the Catholic Church has remained almost devoid
of female participation in all positions of authority and significance. The Church s sedated
progressivism has never been more egregious than in the rapidly changing society of the last half
century, with the millennia old barriers of sexism rapidly

Origin And Development Of Hunting
Origin and Development of Hunting in Humans Everyday humans around the world consume meat
for nutritional value and; though it is out of mind, survival. When we plan to acquire meat today it
is typically purchased from a store where it had been processed and packaged. However the process
of acquiring this valuable protein was not always so simple. It has been proposed since the time of
Darwin and his theory of Evolution that it was our initial conversion into omnivores who both
hunted and gathered that gave us the extra nutrients to further develop as an intelligent race. Not
only did meat help enlarge brain size but it has been argued to shape our morphology which further
aided in hunting and survival on the savannah rather than in trees. Darwin s evolutionary studies
have remained unchallenged until recently. Darwin specified hominization began when our
ancestors abandoned the trees, embraced an upright bipedal gait, and began using their free hands
to create and use tools. Tools became vital for the purpose of hunting and carcass processing.
Darwin explained that meat, obtained through hunting, became the most stimulating component in
hominid adaptation to savannas. Triggering a progressive increase in brain size, meat subsequently
led to increased intelligence. Another element surrounding this theory of evolution suggests men
are superior in mental endowment to women. Hunting being primarily a male activity and gathering
primarily for females its possible gender

To further examine the book s worth as a historical guide it is important to note the great details
described in terms of process and specifications of the late Arrow. Peden captures a multitude of
statistics and draws on technical background making his book an excellent source for facts and
figures. Moreover the book explains much of the technical focus of the Arrow project
detractors, for this takes up the larger portion of his case. In the event that one should need to
back up concepts and theories regarding the Arrow project and the surrounding political and
economic affairs, Peden provides an extremely valuable source. There is much to be mentioned
in terms of the people who drove the project, engineers, cooperative Americans who s resources
made much of the project viable, and the leadership of Crawford Gordon. Unfortunately this
source is skimpy on the preceding variables, compromising it s historic worth in terms of key
personalities. It would be this papers contention that Peden s work is an excellent source for the
enhancement and crystallization of prior knowledge on the subject matter, due to it s
technological base. It is also being suggested here that the historic value of the political and
decision making process observed throughout the period of the 1956 58, may be oversimplified in

amp;#8217;s main interests were focused on building an empire. After defeating Italy and Austria,
and persuading Russia to withdraw from the war, Napoleon named himself Emperor.
Though Napoleon was very successful on land and in battles, he also had many unsuccessful
attempts. Napoleon amp;#8217;s rage against Britain remained unsuccessful. He attempted many
tactics against the British army. At the Battle of Trafalgar, Napoleon amp;#8217;s loss was
severe. The unexpected raid of the British admiral Lord Nelson, forced Napoleon to lose. Soon
after this loss, Napoleon attempted to force Economic Blockades on Britain called the Continental

Prussia to participate. The British counter to this move was to demand that any ship going to
Europe, was to report in to Great Britain first. After a while, the French Navy was not able to hold
off the British navy and the Continental System failed. The French Economy soon worsened and
Napoleon continued to expand his empire.
Napoleon then made many more moves stirring up more trouble. He named his brothers kings in
conquered countries, and removed the Holy Roman Empire, setting up the Confederation of the
Rhine. This angered the Prussians, causing them to declare war. The Prussian uprisings were easily

This initiative was to further enhance Mississippi s competitiveness in attracting Nissan through the
provision of physical infrastructure. State legislators approved approximately $295 million in
direct incentives for the new plant. Approximately $40.4 million of this was for site improvements,
and $80 million for recruiting and training. These subsidies were to be financed by Mississippi
taxpayers through general obligation bonds. To expedite the process, which is an indication of
commitment and cooperation among stakeholders, legislative process to approve the bond issue
was completed in 5 months instead of a more typical 18 months.
Nissan also received tax rebates associated with Job Tax Credits and the Advantage Incentive
programs. Nissan received corporate income tax rebate worth $5,000 for each direct job created.
Per the agreement, job tax credits were scheduled to run for 15 years on condition Nissan meet
the threshold of creating at least 3000 jobs. Tax credits not utilized in a given year can be carried

suppliers. The rationale to extend financial subsidies to Nissan s suppliers was to maximize the

1950 s Culture Exposed in The Catcher in the Rye

When Holden takes a cab to Ernie s in Greenwich Village he has a conversation with the cab driver,

Holden is asking him so many questions.
Throughout The Catcher in the Rye Holden complains that the people around him are all phony.
This view probably stems from the extensive trend of conformity that infected the 1950 s. The
reader can understand Holden s reason for hating these phonies. Holden describes any person
that embraces the popular culture as a phony and disdains them for it. This is clear when Holden
goes to see The Lunts with Sally Hayes and is absolutely disgusted by the people around him.
When Holden meets Sally s acquaintance, George, he immediately recognizes him as a phony,
strictly ivy league. Big deal. (p.127) Holden cannot stand people who do not think for themselves.
Although Salinger never states his opinion directly, one can assume by Holden s statements that
Salinger was also critical of the 50 s theme of conformity, or at least aware of it.
Holden meets a handful of people in his adventure that he categorizes as pure and sincere. These
people include his love, Jane Gallagher, his sister, Phoebe, and two nuns that he meets on the
street. Holden recognizes that during the 1950 s there were very few people who were true to
themselves. Holden never addresses this conformity as a unique

the wonderful ship and the unsinkable ship (Ballard 102). And then the Titanic sunk so it is not
powerful. Also the Titanic was not powerful enough to hold the hit of the Iceberg. It says, The Titan
hits an iceberg in the North Atlantic then sinks (Ballard 100)This shows that the Titanic is not
powerful.
Also powerful means having great power or strength. If it was powerful it would have the strength
to hold the water. Evidence shows that it should have the strength to hold it but it did not. In

3rd class. They basically shunned the 3rd class. Also another reason is, because they separate
the classes by wealth. Some people paid 20$ to get on and they got treated horribly. But the first
class paid 870$ to get on and were treated great. It says in the paragraph titanic sails. It says Third

British Columbia And Prairie West
INTRODUCTION
British Columbia and Prairie West experienced many changes in economic, political, and social
developments. The great depression of 1930s was more devastating on the Canadian prairies than
other regions of Canada. It impacted badly on economy, social organization, and politics of the
Prairie region. Various factors such as low wheatprices in the international market, fall of export
markets during the depression, insufficient financial investments lowered the economy of the
Prairie region. The economic and political situation worsened in the British Columbia during the
Depression as well as after the World War II. The Prairie West depended on the farming as their
main occupation while British Columbia depended on forestry, mining and fishing. After the World
War II, the Prairie West witnessed Albertadominated by the energy industry whereas Saskatchewan
and Manitoba maintained their economy by the replacing the farm sectors with the economic
sectors. British Colombia acquired its name in energy and transportation sectors. The post 1945
period experienced differences in class, race, gender, and ethnicity. Prairie and British Columbia
underwent changes such as population variability, establishment of national social insurance
programs etc. In 2000s, the energy companies made its way towards Alberta and Saskatchewan.

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Esters
The chemicals used in the making of esters, food flavourants, contribute to health problems in
humans such as allergies, behavioral problems, tumors and many other health problems. The
carboxylic acids and alcohols used in ester formation are the reason for the health problems as
these chemicals are harmful to the human body. Esters are also used in the production of foods
that have edible oils and fats, n amyl butyrate is an example of these types of esters and it causes
health issues such as cardiovascular diseases (Department of Health Human Services, 2014).
These esters are those used as flavourants to give off the odor of apple (College, 2017). Esters are

shopping items, drinks and food products. They are also recyclable so therefore are good for the
environment. Synthetic flavourants are also very cheap so therefore cost effective. They are the
preferred idea over using naturally flavouring as that is more time orientated as the flavour has to

William Shakespeare s King Henry Iv
Since the start of civilization, leaders have pondered over the qualities that makeup an honorable
and legitimate ruler. In William Shakespeare s play King Henry IV Part One the audience must
decide what makes an honorable leader. Throughout the play the main characters, King Henry,
Prince Harry, Hotspur, and even Falstaff, help the audience realize what makes up an honorable
leader for others to follow. The first character that William Shakespeare wants the audience to look
at is King Henry. Henry represents the truth and goodness of the kingdom that he commands. There
is some speculation as to how he became King, and rather or not he is the true King of the country.
King Henry can be compared to United States President s Andrew Jackson or Abraham Lincoln.
King Henry holds the country together despite parts of his country forming a rebellion against him.
Henry is showing the importance of a strong and powerful ruler, just like Andrew Jackson the
nullification crisis of 1836, or Abraham Lincoln and the American Civil War
. Andrew Jackson told
his Vice President John C. Calhoun, That the Union must be preserved. Meaning that the country is
more important than the individual state or person. Abraham Lincoln helped lead America through
one of the most difficult periods of American history. All three of these leaders show a strong mind
and a focus on preserving a unified country no matter the stakes. The next character that
Shakespeare introduces to the audience is Prince

Air Defense History
The Air Defense Artillery is a necessary branch of the US Army today. Its complex weapon
systems and highly trained service members accomplish its mission to deter enemy air threats.
From its birth, many didn t consider it to be a necessary part of the US military. For many years
Air Defense struggled to prove itself worthy. The branch has adapted its technology through the
years to counter advances in technology, and produced a Medal of Honor recipient. Although, Air
Defense has not been actively used in every US conflict, it has carved a place for itself among the
best of the US military. With the invention of the aircraft, the United Statesmilitary had to quickly
produce a new method to defeat this new threat. Field Artillery... Show more content on

In this ever changing environment and in order to protect the interest in the United States, the
military and government contractors have teamed up in order to make state of the art
communication systems and guided missiles with global positioning system assistance. After
these upgrades to defend against new age threats like Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles, the
United States Government have fielded the equipment to the Air Defense units in order to
provide protection. The fielding has be seen in Japan, Korea, Afghanistan, U.A.E, Italy, Germany,
along with a few other countries. With these advances there have been amazing results on the
battle field, as in expedient reactions when reacting to indirect artillery fire to creating an all in
one system known as the Iron Dome which is in use in Israel. In this new technological era, Air
Defense is playing a bigger role than before because of the ability to communicate to other units
with the same system as well as to prevent fratricide within the battle field. The Air Defense branch
also uses radars on the electromagnetic spectrum in order to tell exactly where an aircraft is at in
the sky in a three dimensional

Leader Characteristics Essay
Leader Characteristics
Charismatic leadership is one of four subdivisions of the larger concept of transformational
leadership (Bass, 1990). Charismatic leaders are self confident, dominant, purposeful, articulate,
influential, idealistic, and expressive. They have high energy levels, strong convictions, the ability
to display empathy, and are risk takers (Bass, 1990). By stimulating ailing corporations,
revitalizing aging bureaucracies or launching new enterprises (Howell and Avolio, 1995),
charismatic leaders demonstrate how truly effective they can be. These leaders are often
described as visionaries, with a strong sense of the future and a passion for their vision. They are
able to achieve the vision by developing strategies to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Charismatic leaders are risk takers. They develop highly innovative approaches to problems. They
are not afraid to challenge established practices (Nur, 1998).
Another aspect of charismatic leadership is the effect the leader has on his followers. The
charismatic leader develops good communication with his followers. He works with them so
that they actively contribute to and develop the vision; the vision then becomes the property not
only of the leader but of his followers. Once they have this buy in, the followers are willing to go
above and beyond the call of duty to achieve the vision. The charismatic leader has the ability to
inspire extraordinary performance in his followers (Howell and Avolio, 1995). Bass (1990), states
that the charismatic leader has the ability to turn dormant followers into active ones. Charismatic
leaders arouse trust, faith and belief in the leader (Howell and Avolio, 1995). They also move
their followers to become leaders in their own right. But most of all, charismatic leaders inspire a
deep devotion in their followers. The effect they have on their followers seems to be their greatest
achievement.
Follower Characteristics
Burns (1990) states that More important than what charismatics do or say is what their different
prospective followers feel about them. The followers have an actual need to identify with the
charismatic leader (Bass, 1990). Bass (1990) notes that researchers suggest that the followers

What are its priorities in terms of business support? Political decisions can impact on many vital areas for business such as the education of the workforce, the health of the nation and the quality of the infrastructure of the economy such as the road and rail system. * Economic Factors These include interest rates, taxation changes, economic growth, inflation and exchange rates. As it can be seen throughout the Foundations of Economics book economic change can have a major impact on a firm s behavior. For examples, * higher interest rates may deter investment because it costs more to borrow * a strong currency may make exporting more difficult because it may raise the price in terms of foreign currency * inflation may provoke higher wage demands from employees and raise cost * national income growth may boost demand for a firm s products * Social Factors Changes in social trends can impact on the demand for a firm s products and the availability and willingness of individuals to work. In the UK, for example, the population has been ageing. This has increased the costs for firms who are committed to pension payments for their employees because their staff is living longer. It also means some firms such as Asda have started to recruit older employees to tap into this growing labor pool. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Langston Hughes Influence On Harlem Renaissance The Harlem Renaissance, occurring from the end of World War I to the Great Depression, was a colorful explosion of artistic, social, and cultural movements. Acting as the center of this explosion, Harlem drew upon the talents of many great African American writers, poets, musicians, and artists. One such great talent was Langston Hughes. Langston Hughes wrote many essays, short stories, and poems with the common theme of celebrating and vocalizing African Americanculture. Hughes s representation Harlem changed and varied throughout his life, and is reflected in his numerous poems. For much of his early body of work, Hughes viewed Harlem as a glittering and vibrant neighborhood. However, as the peak of the movement dropped off into the doldrums of the Great Depression, Hughes work took on a more cynical view towards Harlem. Harlem came to represent the lost dreams of its citizens. This change in Hughes s ideals can be traced back to both... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For much of the early 19th century, Harlem remained a small, yet fashionable settlement. The Harlem Railroad as well as the Civil War brought even more wealth and infrastructure to the area. However, the Panic of Harlem in 1937, caused by the large amount of poor immigrants, initiated the city of New York to annex the neighborhood. • 9. The Importance of Safety in Coal Mining Companies Employee Safety Importance of Safety One of the most vital investments made in any mining company is to ensure that their people return safe and sound at the end of a day of work. In the current era of rapid industrial growth, managing the impacts of this growth on the safety and wellbeing of employees is critical. The impact also extends towards the mining companies, overall labor pool and the constant threat of mine closures and job losses. Whenever there is an accident or death in a mine, companies face routine shutdowns ordered by the government for investigations, and work stoppages by union members. This causes companies to suffer huge production losses. Government and the Focus on Safety The government has adopted a strong stance on Coal Mining Safety and has extended a commitment towards increasing general safety for mineworkers. It is envisaged that greater cooperation could contribute to the safety efforts. Government continues to engage in constructive discussions to engage with both business and labour on how to improve on safety. Growth and Safety BHP Billiton had decided to expand its operations through the creation of project hubs in Toronto, Santiago, Houston, Brisbane and Perth. • 11. My Friend Uploaded A Post On Facebook And It Got Me... Recently my friend uploaded a post on Facebook and it got me contemplating. The question was posed by a man named Alan Watts and he asked, What would you like to do if money were no object? This inquiry seems to be wandering the internet a bit because this was roughly the third time that I have regarded it, so I took it as a sign and I paused to direct this question to myself. Of course, there is a multitude of things that I yearn to do. If money wasn t the issue like many of us make it out to be, of course, there would be ample to do. I discern that this question is posed more for what type of work would you do but I was thinking about stuff that I would love to do regardless. The most predominate desire for me is to travel. I love to write and that will always be a constant thing, but I think it would be great to do both. I recognize that many people would have a similar response, yet my strong desire to travel made me consider deeply as to why I had such a tenacious want for it. I believe one of the reasons why that deep down, we still hold on to the ancient survival instinct of migration, which can never really be satisfied. I believe that this could also hold true for me. As I think more about it, I find that it was not really the destinations that I want to go to but the means of the journey that I wish to experience. • 12. Madame Bovary, By Gustave Flaubert In the classic literary novel Madame Bovary, by Gustave Flaubert, is the family of Bovary s in which Charles and Emma Bovary are the focal point in the story. The setting of the story takes place in France during the 1700s where class distinctions were prominent. In this novel, there is a theme surrounding the idea of the social classhierarchy. In the world of Madame Bovary, Emma is stuck in conflict with the middle class of the bourgeoisie, and between the upper and lower bourgeoisie, and the working class who are the proletariats. Even though Emma Bovary may just be a desperate romantic looking for love and is trying to live a romanticized life from the novels she read when she was younger, the lives of the Bovary s are affected by the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As these sequences of events are told from Madame Bovary, Emma is trying to raise herself into the upper bourgeoisie class where wealth, power, intelligence, and the arts lie. As described by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engles in the Communist Manifesto, The bourgeoisie has torn away from the family its sentimental veil, and has reduced the family relation to mere money relation. (8) In my own opinion, these two are talking about how being in the bourgeoisie class breaks down family relationships and values, and becomes more of a focus on obtaining the means of greater status and wealth. In Emma Bovary s case, she begins to neglect her own daughter Berthe, and takes advantage of Charles s naiveness to try and meet up with her lovers (Both Leon and Rudolph). This also puts the Bovary family into debt as Emma keeps expenditure high to achieve a lifestyle she wants. This can be seen when she makes trips and buys gifts to go see Leon in Paris. By building up the family debt, it puts the Bovary into the lower bourgeoisie class. Emma has sold several of their belongings and even the rights to Charles s family estate. In part, she also has taken out loans from Lheureus, which has been taking advantage of Emma s desperation to see her lover Leon. • 13. The Battle Of War And War There are many different components to war, far beyond the soldiers and battlefields. Soldiers at war may make the ultimate sacrifice in the sequence of battle, but societies at war deal with the compromise. War requires more non renewable resources than any other industry in the world, the most abundant of those resources being humans. Since July 4, 1776 the US has been in some sort of conflict for 222 of the 239 years since that day. Humans require more basic necessities than any other living organism on the planet. The resources necessary to support a war are endless and can have massive affects on industry, geopolitical structure, populations, educational institutions, and much, much more. With The US having actively participated in war almost the entirety of its existence, war has been impacting everyone and everything in existence be it living or not. Humans alone, without the resources necessary to participate in war, require at least sustenance and shelter just to sustain life. Beyond that there are human needs such as clothing and skills to sustain life within a society. For each of these individuals it is mandatory to obtain one outfit of clothing, one meal a day that is sufficient enough to avoid poor nutrition, one place to sleep. For the women and women of our armed forces these needs are met and merely more. • 15. Ivan Denisovich Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn was best known for his novel, One day in the life of Ivan Denisovich, which explores a day in the life of Ivan Denisovich, who was imprisoned in a Soviet labor camp. Solzhenitsyn, being a previous denizen of a similar camp, effectively conveys the hardships and dilemmas these prisoners faced through the use of dramatic irony and tone. Solzhenitsyn uses irony to reflect his opinion that loyalty to the Soviet regime was futile and had no purpose whatsoever. He uses the tone to express his emotions regarding the unfair imprisonment of the characters through the analepses provided for Tiurin, Senka and Sukhov.Solzhenitsyn skillfully weaves in flashbacks through the thoughts of the characters, the narrator or the stories... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Senka, one of the team 104th quietest members, also suffers the consequences of being loyal to the Soviet regime. Senka served the army during Hitler s attack on the Soviet Union and had suffered on both ends: One of his eardrums had been smashed in 41 and he later had been captured, recaptured and sent to Buchenwald (Solzhenitsyn, 45) where he smuggled in arms to organize a mutiny (Solzhenitsyn, 57). He had tried to escape three times with no avail. The last time he was captured he was punished by tying his wrists behind him, hanging by them and flogging him hard (Solzhenitsyn, 59). When he finally was released back to the Soviet Union, he charged for treason and put into this gulag. Senka, despite enduring so much physical and mental stress to escape and organize a mutiny against the Germans in an effort to stay loyal to his home country, lead him to the Stalinist work camps in the Soviet Union under charges of treason. Here we see Solzhenitsyn using the ironic gap between the character s intention and outcome to once again to condemn any effort to be loyal to the Soviet Union. Senka s flashback is also narrated with a very apologetic tone, best seen when the narrator calls him a luckless fellow (Solzhenitsyn, 45), and describes his painful torture. Solzhenitsyn further adds elements such as Senka s extremely broken spirit to increase reader sympathy: You re lost Senka often says, if you show your pride too much (Solzhenitsyn, 45). This also allows the readers to better connect with Senka s character by feeling very sorry for him. This also helps Solzhenitsyn further demonstrate the drastic, often sad consequences of being loyal to the Soviet ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. What Is The Spiritual Path Essay I have walked the spiritual path for 30 years, and I have been studying various spiritual teachings. I have also been involved with several organizations and spiritual teachers. I have friends who have been involved with more teachers, and I ve watched hundreds of people have been struggling with a spiritual path. Based on my experience and observation, I have come to one conclusion is clear. The difference between those who succeed on the spiritual path and those who continue to struggle with the frustration is how they view the concept of teachers. Push button mentality If you take a step back and see the big picture, the essence of the spiritual path (or life, really) is to come out of ignorance and into understanding, out of the darkness and into terang in mind, that is. Why do people feel frustrated As well programmed our customers, we choose products that look attractive to us and eagerly began to consume it. But after a while usually a short time we started to feel like someone who has flipped the switch, but the light has not come. So we keep on flipping the switch on and off, and while we could hear the click, the light will not come. This is usually when we start to feel frustrated, and we may even take it out on the teacher or teaching that does not seem to work. I personally have felt this frustration and I have seen in many others. It is quite understandable, especially when one considers that so many teachers or organizations who make promises they can not deliver. They have also been caught up in a consumer s approach to spiritual growth, and they have either consciously or intentionally decided to tell people what they want to hear. So what do we do? • 20. The Postbellum Southern Disillusionment In Wash Analysis The Postbellum Southern Disillusionment in Wash According to German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche, exercising and expanding one s personal power is all that one wants (Nietzsche 36). He argues that we hurt those to whom we need to make our power perceptible, [and] we benefit and show benevolence toward those who already depend on us in some way (36). Per this logic, individuals who exhibit generosity feel content with their current influence on the world while those who act injuriously yearn for more control over their peers. It is not surprising, then, that the Poor White sociocultural caste of the Antebellum and particularly the Postbellum South exhibited extreme malice towards blacks, in attempts to elevate themselves due to... Critic FranГ§oise Buisson observes that Wash s idealized vision of his master present[s] the reader with the baroque drama of Southern illusion (Buisson 2), and Wash s outlook embodies the general Southern attitude perpetuating inequality. He believes wholly in his master, and remarks Well Kernel ... they kilt us but they ain t whupped us yit, air they? (Faulkner 132). Wash alters his own self perception in a desperate attempt of self elevation, convincing himself that the world in which he sensed always about him mocking echoes of black laughter was but a dream and an illusion, and that the actual world was this one across which his own lonely apotheosis seemed to gallop on the black thoroughbred (132). Wash s Platonic conception of himself is merely a plebian emulation of the man he reveres most: Thomas Sutpen. He imagines himself in a position of power atop Sutpen s black stallion, with all of the marks of representative power. When subjected to the verbal degradation that he experiences at the tongues of the slaves calling him white trash (Faulkner 130), Wash attempts to escape the reality of his dismal situation by fabricating a fictitious existence with limited verisimilitude. Wash s puerile dismissal of his forlorn situation reflects many white Southerners general denial of the upshot of the Civil War while in fact they are defeated, they refuse to accept this adverse reality. But after several group figureheads were arrested, the general public was deterred from participating this hacktivist group. From 2012 to the present, the door opened for hacktivist specialists beyond Anonymous, to cause destruction. Hacktivism has shifted from large amounts of amateurs causing minimal damage, to small amounts of hacking specialists causing tremendous amounts of damage. Due to the fact that the Internet is largely privatized, it is very hard for hacktivists to get their point across to a large number of people without breaking the law. So, a free speech space needs to be established online to ensure that everyone has a chance to speak their mind on a digital sidewalk. The extreme side of hacktivism is cyberterrorism. The audience was made up of primarily elderly couples and families from the surrounding Rockbridge area. I saw some professors in the audience with their families which was great to see. W L students were definitely the minority in the audience that night. As this case just mentioned the site soil classification of this reclaimed land is H1 but not mention the soil type. If it s sandy area, removal trees might cause less damage to the soil because sand does not swell or shrink with changes in moisture (Victorian building authority, 2015). However, if these trees are used to take more moisture from the underground water system in clay soil land, the tree removal land will become more wet or dry due to the different surrounding agricultural situation. For example, if there are heavy rainy after the tree removal and there are no other trees or shrubs around the site, too much accumulated water will stay on the hole and change the clay soils to be more reactive. On the other hand, if there are other big trees and shrubs around the site, the extra moisture will be absorbed by these trees and the site soil is going to be dry. • 24. The Legal Definition Of A Duty Of Care And Negligence The legal definition of a duty of care and negligence is very complex. It primary concerns itself with relationship between the defendant and the claimant, it must be established that there is an obligation upon the defendant to take proper care to avoid causing injury to the claimant in all circumstances. Determining negligence is not always easy. Before 1932 there was no generalised duty of care in negligence. The tort did exist but it was only applied in particular situations where the courts had decided that a duty should be owed, e.g., road accidents, bailments or dangerous goods. Third parties who suffered as a result of a breach of contract had no remedy, because they were not a part to the contract and thus excluded by the doctrine of privity, which means that only parties to contracts should be able to sue to enforce their rights or claim damages. The idea of a duty of care in the tort of negligence has been developed over the years through judges making decisions in high profile cases. In a ground breaking case and milestone in Donoghue v Stevenson [1932] AC 562, an opportunity had arisen for Lord Atkin to formulate the neighbour principle . By doing so It created the and laid down the foundations of modern law on negligence, by setting out general principles whereby one person would owe a duty of care to another person. During Liesel s first days as a Hubermann, she gets to meet Ilsa Hermann, the cold and distant wife of the mayor, who at this point in the book, appears to be another lazy privileged client of Rosa Hubermann, the hardworking, underprivileged service provider. Struggling to conform to societal norms, the Tramp unsuccessfully attempts to reach the upper middle class bliss that he desires. In his endeavors, the Tramp ends up in jail but ironically, it is in the confinement of prison where the Tramp feels most comfortable and that his individuality is best appreciated. I will argue that through his use of strategic framing and camera angles, Chaplin presents the prison as a place that the Tramp believes is the one place he is respected and can truly be free when in reality, it is nothing more than an illusion. Chaplin strategically frames his shots to show hidden truths. An example of this is when an officer going to summon the Tramp to the sheriff s office. Chaplin often leaves lots of headroom to make the characters appear smaller in the frame. In this shot however, he uses a closer shot with just enough headroom for the approaching guard. This makes the shot feel cozy and snug, just like how the Tramp feels about his cell. This is the closest thing to a proper home that he has ever seen, with food and a roof over his head. It is almost as if the Tramp is no longer in prison. Although the key is in the lock, the Tramp does not seize the opportunity to escape. Female priests and the gender inequality within the Catholic Church From the rampant persecution of science and inquiry during the Age of Enlightenment, to the condemnation of abortion and the use of contraceptives in the most HIV/AIDS ridden regions of Africa today, the Catholic Church has nearly always been the thorn in the side of progressive ideas, movements, organizations, and institutions. Today the Catholic Churchremains one of the largest religious entities on the planet, with nineteen percent of the world s population and a half of all Christians adhering to its religious doctrines ( Catholic Desires for Change ). Catholicism is unique among Christian secs for its incredibly long history and staunch traditionalism. The church structure has remained almost unchanged since the time of the Roman Empire, and its doctrines are slow evolving at best. The Catholic Church only recently amended its stance on the heliocentric nature of the solar system, when in nineteen ninety two Pope John Paul II exonerated Galileo Galilei s crimes of heresy, three centuries after the man s death (Cowell, 1992). As many western institutions begin to diversify their gender and ethnic makeup, the Catholic Church has remained almost devoid of female participation in all positions of authority and significance. When we plan to acquire meat today it is typically purchased from a store where it had been processed and packaged. However the process of acquiring this valuable protein was not always so simple. It has been proposed since the time of Darwin and his theory of Evolution that it was our initial conversion into omnivores who both hunted and gathered that gave us the extra nutrients to further develop as an intelligent race. Not only did meat help enlarge brain size but it has been argued to shape our morphology which further aided in hunting and survival on the savannah rather than in trees. Darwin s evolutionary studies have remained unchallenged until recently. Darwin specified hominization began when our ancestors abandoned the trees, embraced an upright bipedal gait, and began using their free hands to create and use tools. Tools became vital for the purpose of hunting and carcass processing. Darwin explained that meat, obtained through hunting, became the most stimulating component in hominid adaptation to savannas. Triggering a progressive increase in brain size, meat subsequently led to increased intelligence. Another element surrounding this theory of evolution suggests men are superior in mental endowment to women. When Holden takes a cab to Ernie s in Greenwich Village he has a conversation with the cab driver, Horwitz. Salinger demonstrates the paranoia of the 50 s by emphasizing how angry Horwitz is that Holden is asking him so many questions. Throughout The Catcher in the Rye Holden complains that the people around him are all phony. This view probably stems from the extensive trend of conformity that infected the 1950 s. The reader can understand Holden s reason for hating these phonies. Holden describes any person that embraces the popular culture as a phony and disdains them for it. This is clear when Holden goes to see The Lunts with Sally Hayes and is absolutely disgusted by the people around him. When Holden meets Sally s acquaintance, George, he immediately recognizes him as a phony, strictly ivy league. Big deal. (p.127) Holden cannot stand people who do not think for themselves. Although Salinger never states his opinion directly, one can assume by Holden s statements that Salinger was also critical of the 50 s theme of conformity, or at least aware of it. Holden meets a handful of people in his adventure that he categorizes as pure and sincere. These people include his love, Jane Gallagher, his sister, Phoebe, and two nuns that he meets on the street. Holden recognizes that during the 1950 s there were very few people who were true to themselves. Holden never addresses this conformity as a unique ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. William Shakespeare s King Henry Iv Since the start of civilization, leaders have pondered over the qualities that makeup an honorable and legitimate ruler. In William Shakespeare s play King Henry IV Part One the audience must decide what makes an honorable leader. Throughout the play the main characters, King Henry, Prince Harry, Hotspur, and even Falstaff, help the audience realize what makes up an honorable leader for others to follow. The first character that William Shakespeare wants the audience to look at is King Henry. Henry represents the truth and goodness of the kingdom that he commands. There is some speculation as to how he became King, and rather or not he is the true King of the country. King Henry can be compared to United States President s Andrew Jackson or Abraham Lincoln. King Henry holds the country together despite parts of his country forming a rebellion against him. Henry is showing the importance of a strong and powerful ruler, just like Andrew Jackson the nullification crisis of 1836, or Abraham Lincoln and the American Civil War . Andrew Jackson told his Vice President John C. Calhoun, That the Union must be preserved. Meaning that the country is more important than the individual state or person. Abraham Lincoln helped lead America through one of the most difficult periods of American history. Charismatic leaders are self confident, dominant, purposeful, articulate, influential, idealistic, and expressive. They have high energy levels, strong convictions, the ability to display empathy, and are risk takers (Bass, 1990). By stimulating ailing corporations, revitalizing aging bureaucracies or launching new enterprises (Howell and Avolio, 1995), charismatic leaders demonstrate how truly effective they can be. These leaders are often described as visionaries, with a strong sense of the future and a passion for their vision. They are able to achieve the vision by developing strategies to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Charismatic leaders are risk takers. They develop highly innovative approaches to problems. They are not afraid to challenge established practices (Nur, 1998). Another aspect of charismatic leadership is the effect the leader has on his followers. The charismatic leader develops good communication with his followers. He works with them so that they actively contribute to and develop the vision; the vision then becomes the property not only of the leader but of his followers. Once they have this buy in, the followers are willing to go above and beyond the call of duty to achieve the vision. The charismatic leader has the ability to inspire extraordinary performance in his followers (Howell and Avolio, 1995). Bass (1990), states that the charismatic leader has the ability to turn dormant followers into active ones. Charismatic leaders arouse trust, faith and belief in the leader (Howell and Avolio, 1995). They also move their followers to become leaders in their own right. But most of all, charismatic leaders inspire a deep devotion in their followers. The effect they have on their followers seems to be their greatest achievement.
