What Is Abraham Lincoln s Political Career
Abraham Lincoln was the best president that the United States of America has had for a leader. He
paved the way for the abolition of slavery. He also led the Union through the bloodiest war in
American history to end slavery and preserve the Union. He also paved the way for strengthening
the federal government and improving the U.S. economy.
Abraham Lincoln was born in Hardin county, Kentucky in his parents log cabin on February 12,
1809. Lincoln had brother and a sister but his brother died when he was an infant. Lincoln had a
hard childhood because when he was a little boy his family was forced to move to Perry county,
Indiana due to land disputes in 1817. His mother died from tremetol when Lincoln was only nine

Shortly after being elected, Lincoln decided he wanted to be a lawyer, and in 1837 Lincoln
moved to Springfield, Illinois to become a lawyer in the John T. Stuart law firm. In 1847
Abraham Lincoln began his political career when he served a single term in the U.S. House of
Representatives. He was a lonely Whig from Illinois and struggled to find many political allies
because he spoke out against the Mexican American War. It also made him unpopular in his
home state so he decided not to run for a a second term and went back to being a lawyer. By the
time the 1850 s came around railroads were expanding west rapidly and Lincoln was a lawyer
and a lobbyist for the Illinois Central Railroad Company. In 1854 congress passed the Kansas
Nebraska Act which repealed the Missouri Compromise and allowed states and territories to
decide if they wanted to have slavery or not. Since Lincoln was against slavery and thought it was
morally wrong he joined the Republican Party in 1856. In 1858 Lincoln ran for a seat in the senate
against Stephen Douglas and accused him promoting slavery and said a house divided cannot

Abstract Imagine paying $500, $600, $700, or $1,000 monthly for health care insurance only to
realize these payments were for naught. The health care insurance provider that received these
monthly installments has decided whatever is ailing you will not be covered due to a pre existing
medical condition. What if you couldn t have the luxury of health care insurance at all due to the
basis the health care insurance provider has concluded you have a pre existing medical condition?

Personal Statement For Wildlife Research
I want to focus in analytical work with wildlife research because I want a career where I have
the background knowledge to change and (implicate?) policies and laws containing wildlife
issues. I want to gain more field work experience by participating in the SULI program, which
gives me the ability to work more in a natural and outdoor setting. This internship will give me the
practicality and application of the methods I have learned in my wildlifesurvey classes. I could gain
invaluable experience in transect, trail camera, and small mammal trapping. My work with wildlife
has mostly pertained to mammal, avian, and some reptile species. Being able to work with herps
and pollinators allows me to broaden my skills and expand my knowledge of

The Leadership Practice Of A Nursing Student
As a nursing student, I have had great success forming therapeutic relationships with my clients and
have received positive feedback from clinical instructors about my patient communication.
However, I experience uncertainty when interacting with peers or colleagues. My lack of
confidence translates into difficulty forming effective professional relationships. This assessment is
reflected in my Clinical LeadershipSurvey as a deficit in the leadership practice of Encouraging the
Heart. This practice includes behaviors such as recognizing contributions, celebrating
accomplishments, and providing feedback (Patrick, Laschinger, Finegan, and Wong, 2011).
The results of my baseline survey support the theory that my weakness is in interprofessional
communication. Alternatively however, I recorded equal strength of fourteen out of fifteen in the
other four leadership practices. Each of these four practices incorporates an element of Emotional
Intelligence and reflective practice. Based on my clinical experiences and feedback from
instructors, I agree with these results and can identify that interprofessional communication is the
skill I must develop to become an effective leader.
Personal Strategies Over the Term
Throughout this semester, I worked through the Unfreeze and Move stages of Lewin s Force Field
Model for change. Similar to the Assessment and Planning steps of the Nursing Process, the
Unfreezing stage occurs when the individual identifies a need for change (Kelly

Analysis Of The Clean Air Act ( Caa ) Essay
1. Introduction
Fairfax County, Virginia is located just west of Washington, DC (DC) and is considered part of the
Metropolitan Baltimore Washington Region. Located along the mid Atlantic coast, Fairfax County
is a temperate climate with four distinctive seasons and has an average of 42 inches of rain per
year. Land use in Fairfax County consists of a mix of commercial, residential, and industrial uses.
As the population continues to increase, available land area has decreased, which has contributing
to urban sprawl and decreased air quality (Fairfax County, 2014). With rapid growth in the county,
the transportation sectors have expanded increasing the amount of mobile sources for air pollution
from both within the county and from outside the county. Air quality in Fairfax County has been
improving; however, the county and the region have yet to meet federal air quality standards for 8
hour ozone and particle matter.
2. Environmental Air Quality Issue
The Clean Air Act (CAA) was amended in 1990 to include the National Ambient Air Quality
Standards (NAAQS) for pollutants considered harmful to public health and the environment (U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency [EPA], 2014). Fairfax County and the DC metropolitan area are
designated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as a moderate non attainment area
for the eight hour ozone standard established by the NAAQS (Fairfax County, 2014). In addition to
non attainment for ground level ozone, particle matter

About Shingles Essay
Shingles, herpes zoster, is a very contagious and painful rash, or blister that appears on the skin.
These rashes most commonly appear on the sides of the body in stripes. The stripes are made up
of many very painful blisters caused by a certain type of virus. The varicella zoster, most
commonly known as the chicken pox virus attacks the nerve roots in that area. The herpes zoster
virus is in the herpes family, including HSV, herpes simple virus, which causes cold sores, fever
blisters, and genital herpes. (WebMD, 2011) Most people are required to get the chicken pox shot
when they are children although some do not. The chicken pox shot helps to keep out the virus by
keeping it dormant in the nerves. The varicella zoster virus stays in a... Show more content on

Some of the first symptoms of shingles may include intense side pain, itching, tingling, and
burning. The symptoms most commonly appear before the rashes or blisters. Then red patches
on the skin form. These turn into clusters of blisters in stripes most commonly on the sides of
the torso, but may appear on the eyes, face, mouth, and ears. The blisters break soon after this
leaving the skin open to ulcers forming. The ulcers form a crust or scab to protect it. The scab
will fall off in approximately two to three weeks. Scarring usually does not exist. Additional
symptoms include chills, abdominal pain, muscle weakness, headache, joint pain, and difficulty
moving some facial muscles. If a woman is exposed to shingles during her pregnancy, and
acquires shingles, her pregnancy may be complicated. The mother may get very sick, and the
baby may get chicken pox right away or within a few days of birth. If the pregnant woman has
shingles within a few days before birth this can be very bad for the baby. The newborn baby
might not be able to handle all the stress on the body of the virus attacking the nerves so young. It
is not very common for this to happen although it can. If the rash is present, it is advised to go to
the doctor within three days. There is no cure for shingles but many medicines can lessen the
effects of the illness on the body. Shingles is most easily diagnosed by pains running along the

The Definitions Of Scientific Management
Scientific Management
The term scientific management is the blend of two words i.e. scientific and management.
Scientific means efficient diagnostic and target approach while management means completing
things through others. In basic words scientific management implies utilization of standards and
routines for science in the field of administration. Scientific management is the craft of knowing
best and least expensive way . It is the craft of knowing precisely what could possibly be done
whom it is to be done and what is the best and least expensive method for doing it. Scientific
routines and procedures are connected in the field of management i.e., enrollment, choice,
preparing, situation of laborers and techniques for doing work in the best and least expensive way.
Definitions of Scientific Management
The main definitions of scientific management are as follows:
According to Fredrick Taylor (1911), The management of science means knowing exactly what you
want workers or employees to do and seeing that they do it in the best and the cheapest way.
As indicated by Harlow Person (1947) The management of science portrays that type of association
and methodology in purposive aggregate exertion which lays on standards or laws inferred by the
procedure of scientific analysis and investigation, rather than convention or on approaches decided
empirically and casually by the procedure of experimentation.

Texas Instruments Case Study
1) Strategy, culture, strength and weakness. Volume up and the price down is the key strategy at
TI over the years. TI s organizational culture can be summed by a Do it ourselves approach. TI is
run by engineers for engineers. The company prefers to hire straight out of college and incentivizes
employees with salaries and tenures in addition to a company culture that rarely fires. By this, TI
cultivates loyal and more importantly proud employees. It is no surprise therefore that there is an
almost obsessive dislike of other company s products. TI s culture both its strength and weakness as
it was a source for breakthrough innovation whilst at the same time arrogance and corporate hubris

would also make it compatible with most software). Analyzing the target market segment, every

Child Labor In The 1800s Essay
Way back in the 19th century everyone who was physically capable worked. They worked in the
feilds, in shops and markets, in homes serving, they worked wherever they could. When the
industrial revolution brought about new macherinery for old work it was not so easy of an
adjustment. The people went along well with the new technology, but the machines and general
atmosphere in factories was dreadful. Deaths were extremely common. Child labor was a necessity
for the time period, but has since been rightfull illegaliszed.
In 1800 s factories, where child labor was a common necessity, deaths were almost an every day
experience. The young girl from whom the letter was written did not seem overly sensitive to
relaying information about a death. For example, Mary writes to her father, Last Thursday one girl
fell down and broke her neck which caused instant death...Last Thursday one girl fell down and
broke her neck which caused instant death. How Mary transitions from reciting the deaths in the
last couple of days to giddily chatting about the paycheck is a definite sign of what factory work
was doing to these kids. Mary s age is not mentioned anywhere, but one could generally guess that

Economic Inequality And Its Effects On Economic Growth
The rich get richer, and the poor get poorer is an aphorism elicited from the topic of economic
inequality. Over the past decades, economic inequality has been rising and at an increasing rate,
expanding the gap between the rich and the poor. The direct relationship between inequality and
poverty has shown that while inequality increases, so too does poverty. Increased inequality is
harmful for economic growth and its effects also bear social implications. Although there are
arguments on the consequences of wealth redistribution and its unintended impact on economic
growth, wealth should be redistributed to reduce inequality and poverty, sequentially leading to
more economic development and a higher standard of living for society.
Economic inequality occurs in two forms: income inequality and wealth inequality. There remains
a dispute between whether income inequality or wealth inequality should be the focus to
reducing economic inequality. Considerable attention has been given to income disparities,
however, it is important to realize that simply addressing income inequality will not adequately
address the gross disparity between the poor and the ultra rich. For example, Bill Gates is
estimated to earn around $7 billion per year (estimates vary wildly depending on how his income
is calculated). However, even if this income was taxed at 100%, Gates would still have in excess
of $70 billion in accumulated wealth. Gates could continue spending a million dollars per day,

Conception and Birth of Heroes in Greek Mythology Essay
Hero, the word strikes a universal chord making us think of exceptional and spectacular stories or
deeds that far surpass any common feat. To the Greeks and many other cultures, the birth of these
heroes is important. The birth of a hero sets them, apart often even before birth, from common
mortals in Greek mythology. Birth is the first of many major events in our lives, our entrance into
the world (Leeming). For heroes, that entrance must be as special as their lives will prove to be. A
mundane birth is simply not an option for a hero, whether by the machinations of the gods or
prophecies from an oracle, even the events surrounding their conception must be spectacular. From

Theseus, born of Aethra and Poseidon, grew up secretly in Troezen keeping him protected from
those who would harm him. Thus, claiming the items his father left him and setting out for Athens,
he started on the path leading to many great and heroic adventures. Hercules, born of Alcmena and
Zeus, was conceived when Zeus took the form of Alcmena s husband and lay with her. Her true
husband lay with her again later that night and she conceived twins. One would be born to her
human husband, and the other fathered by Zeus himself (Hamilton). Zeus bragged about his
soon to be born son alerting and infuriating Hera to Hercules existence. Hera was notorious for
tormenting her husbands illegitimate offspring since she couldn t harm Zeus outright for his
infidelity (Hamilton). Hera persuaded Eileithyia to slow Alcmena s labor in a fit of piquГ©,
almost killing her (Hamilton). Alcmena in fear of Hera s wrath gave her son to nature. Zeus (in
some accounts Hermes) stole him away to Olympus, where he suckled at Hera s breast while she
lay sleeping, granting him immortality (McLeish). When Hera awoke during the suckling she
pushed Hercules away and the milk that sprayed out formed the Milky Way (Leeming). Zeus took
the infant and placed him back in his crib before departing to Olympus again. Enraged Hera sent
two massive serpents to kill Hercules and his brother as they lay sleeping

Natural Gas
Natural Gas Natural gas is another means of energy source that provides heating and electricity to
many individuals. It is a natural mixture of methane, carbon dioxide, nitrogen and hydrogen sulfide.
Natural gas was first found back in 1626 when the French found the natives lighting gas seeping in
and out of the ground around Lake Erie. When natural gaswas first introduced into civilization as a
means of energy source it was not efficient nor was it environmentally friendly. It was first in the

Macbeth and Lady Macbeth as Evil Murderers in William Shakespeare s Play
At the start of this play Macbeth is mentioned by witches which doesn t give him credibility with

he deserves that name...Like Valour s minion. But soon after he has his meeting with the witches he

Macbeth even has his best friend murdered, but, uncharacteristically baulks at doing the deed
himself and hires others to complete his dirty work for him, which also involves murdering a 10
year old boy, Banquo s son. However, the news of the escape of Fleance shakes Macbeth to the core.
Later on in the play, Macbeth has Macduff s entire family murdered out of spite for Macduff,
which seems very brutal even by Macbeth s impressive standards.
One thing I did notice to be consistent throughout the play was the deterioration of both Macbeth s
and Lady Macbeth s mental condition. This all starts about the time of the murder of Duncan, when
Macbeth sees a mysterious dagger leading him towards Duncan s chamber, and becomes even
more apparent after the murder of Banquo, when Macbeth sees an apparition of Banquo, covered
in blood. This could be his conscience. Lady Macbeth also begins to hallucinate and picture her
hands covered in blood whilst she still sleeps. There is a lot of such bloody and violent imagery
throughout the play. She eventually dies, although Shakespeare omits to mention how, and we are
left to speculate. Macbeth becomes increasingly wild and unpredictable and by the end of the play
all but the most faithful to his cause, those too stupid to see its doom, and those too afraid to turn
traitor against it have abandoned Macbeth in

INNOVATIONS IN DRUG DELIVERY: RAPID DISINTEGRATING TABLETS

Innovation is the key word in the present era. As scientists are engrossed in development of newer
drug molecules, there has also been a continuous demand for the development of delivery forms for

Despite the many dosage forms available in the market, the oral route remains the popular route of

Martha Ballard s Diary Analysis
Laurel Thatcher Ulrich uses Martha Ballard s diary to portray life in rural New England in the
late 1700 and early 1800 s. Using this diary and other historical material she recreates the 27
years of life that Martha has disclosed in her diary. By using Martha s life and words she
recreates what living was like during the pre industrial era. She features the role that midwives and
women in general played in the economic survival of families during this era. The diaryby itself
does not shed light on all the social and cultural traditions of Martha Ballards time. By using it with
other historical information Ulrich was able to spin a story that gave an understanding of this era.

Although the story focuses on the works of Martha Ballard she makes it perfectly clear in the
book that caring for the health of others was the responsibility of all women in the community.
Very rarely in the book did Martha attend someone on by herself. Ulrich states, In such
circumstances it was comforting to have the women with her; they could witness her efforts to
ensure a safe delivery and they could assist with the sorrowful task of preparing an infant for
burial. Several times in the diary Ballard referenced someone laying out the deceased in their
funeral clothes or the after nurse that came to help with a newborn. Martha Ballard had her own
family and home duties to attend. It is chronicled that she would often times stay for days with
someone but it is unrealistic to think she could take care of all things herself. Ulrich discusses
infant mortality rate and that the support of the community is what made Martha such a great
midwife. Ballard did not simply just show up at a birth. The impending parents had to choose
her and ask her to come. Such confidence comes by word of mouth from someone that has had

Opponents Of Gun Control In The United States
Opponents of gun control cite the Second Amendment as the most compelling defense for their
argument. Those who oppose strict gun regulation fear that gun control will infringe upon, law
abiding citizens Second Amendment right to bear arms (DiLascio). This is simply untrue. Article I,
Section 8, Clauses 15 and 16 of the Second Amendment state that the Constitution gives Congress
the ability to assemble a militia when national security is threatened and allows citizens to own
firearms in order to protect themselves from government oppression (Bowman and Newton). What
one garners from this information is that the Second Amendment was enacted in a purely military
context. As Bowman states, It is important to note that while the Second Amendment... Show more

A CBS article by Robert Preidt, states, Compared to 22 other high income nations, the United
States gun related murder rate is 25 times higher. With such wide accessibility to powerful
firearms, Americans are at a much higher risk of gun violence. This statistic demonstrates that the
United States is far behind on gun legislation compared to other advanced nations in the world. AJ
Willingham states in his CNN article, From 1966 to 2012, nearly a third of the world s mass
shootings took place in the U.S. This is according to a 2016 study that used the FBI definition of
mass shooting ... While the U.S. has 5% of the world s population, it had 31% of all public mass
shootings. The gun violence epidemic in the United States is most notably highlighted in the
statistic provided by Willingham. Even though the United States has such a small population size
compared to the rest of the world, the gun violence rates are higher than any other nation. This
demonstrates America s leniency in gun legislation compared to other nations. England and Japan
possess some of the tightest gun control measures in the world while simultaneously featuring some
of the lowest gun violence rates (Ballaro and Finley). The correlation between strict gun control
measures and gun related deaths is evident in the statistics of other economic powers in the world,
so why has the United States not taken measures to strengthen gun legislation? Similarly, Beverly
Ballaro states in her article, In 2008, Mayors Against Illegal Guns, a bipartisan group of 300 US
mayors, found that homicides from handguns were highest in states with the most lenient gun laws.
This statistic coincides with the previous data concerning strict gun control measures and the
correlation with gun related deaths. By increasing gun control, the gun related deaths in the

How Oxford Has Coped with the Demands of Modern-Day Tourism
We shall see in this essay how a city has coped with the many demands of modern day tourism
and maintained its position as a Mecca for millions of travelers. Today s travel and tourism
industry has grown into a global economic powerhouse whose combined direct and indirect impact
on the world economy is enormous, according to the World Travel Tourism
Council (WTTC). . (
Fuller,2014)
Fodor s travel guide says Oxford has perhaps the most famous university in the world . Since
Oxford University can traces it routes back to 1167 the city has been attracting people from across
the globe for centuries. The history of the city, largely forged by the university, has led to the need
for other inter related services notably in accommodation, transportation, travel organisations and
the development of other destinations. Both public and private sectors have responded to the
challenge.
In the City of Oxford there are many examples of hospitality and tourism, as seen by the constant
stream of visitors who crowd its streets at weekends throughout the year, striving to get the best
view of the historic number of colleges protruding onto every street. This is Oxford s prize
possession that sets it apart from other destinations in the UK and the world. However there are
sub sectors that play a big part in Oxford. One of the largest examples is the popularity and growth
of the accommodation sector, more specifically hotels. This essay will evaluate the Randolph Hotel

Drumming Research Paper
Is drumming really difficult to me? In my opinion, drumming can be difficult at some times, and
understanding the concept of drumming wasn t easy at the start. When I first started trying to
play the drums, I didn t understand how to do it. I had no idea that drumming even had different
styles and beats. It took me quite awhile to fully comprehend how complex it really is.
Drumming is not easy at first, can be very complex, and requires a lot of practice. Learning to
play the drums was not easy when I first started figuring out how to play a beat. First of all, I
didn t know which pieces I was supposed to play. After observing another person play the drums, I
saw that I needed to play the snare (like in a marching band), hi hat (two cymbals put together), and
bass drum(the big drum on the bottom), and this combination became my first beat. Trying to play
the bass drumwith the hi hat and snare confused me. I was fine playing the snare and hi hat, but I
always messed up when I tried adding the bass drum. I ended up having CJ play the bass drum
while I played the hi hat and snare, which lasted for over two months until I could play it myself.
I was proud to finally be able to play a beat, however I never knew about the many different
different beats that you could play.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, there are different styles of drumming. How I play can depend on different things, such as
what the song itself is like. For example, one song could have a repeating, simple beat, but
another song could have a drum solo and super complex variations to the beat. There are also
different speeds or tempos for drumming. There may be songs that incorporate slow, easy to play
beats, and there could be other songs that have very fast drumming, such as heavy metal. Due to the
varieties of drumming styles and speeds, it takes practice to get used to the different

Limitations Of Racist Speech
Limits on Racist Speech in Public Contexts
When the first amendment is brought up, one of the first things that comes to mind is free
speech. Even though we don t give it much thought, our free speech does have limits. The more
obvious limits such as knowing that you can t threaten people or shout Fire! in a crowded space
make sense because it s easy to see how they cause direct harm. These general limits are important
in order to ensure a safe and peaceful society, but when it comes to voicing prejudice views, it
becomes difficult to determine what should and should not be restricted by the first amendment.
After all, when negative and hurtful opinions are directed at a specific group of people, it becomes
hard to see how protecting them could be a good thing. The important thing to remember is that
when sharing these views becomes harmful and leads to harassment, it is no longer protected under
the first amendment. However, everyone sees things differently, so drawing the line between
what is just offensive and harassment needs to be determined and treated on a case by case basis.
This will not only allow us to come to a solution for these individual problems, but it leaves room
for discussion which will help to combat the root cause of prejudice.
While trying to think of ways to regulate racist speech, we might think that an easy solution
would be to place a ban on racist speech altogether, but this quickly becomes problematic.
Banning specific opinions and beliefs would no longer make our speech free, and even when
people are permitted to share wrong or offensive opinions, protecting free speech still has more
potential benefit than harm. This gives us the right to speak out against our government when it is
doing something we disagree with, but it also allows people to share their racist views. If we want
to continue to reap the benefits, we also have to accept that racist speech is a part of free speech,
thus protected under the first amendment. This is not the same thing as saying that racist speech
should be unregulated; there are regulations for when hate speech becomes harmful, but the
government shouldn t and isn t responsible for regulating it. The issue of regulating racist speech is

Behavior Of Rural Consumers Towards Mobile Phones Essay
AN ANALYTIC STUDY TO EVALUATE BEHAVIOUR OF RURAL CONSUMERS TOWARDS
MOBILE PHONES
1.0 Introduction The future lies with those companies who see the poor as their customers
C.K.Prahalad
Villages are an integral part of nation. They become even more important in the Asian and African
context, where a majority of population is residing in rural areas.
For centuries the rural world in India was static as a self sufficient unit of production and
consumption, but it is no longer so. The rural setting is changing every day, with the corporate
sector acting both as the carrier and bearer of the consequences of this change which is happening
at an accelerating rate. Demographic profiles and spending patterns in rural India too are changing
and marketers have to junk their old perception about rural India. Rural consumers who were on
the receiving end so far are now gradually getting into position to dictate terms for the first time.
Although there is a long way to go, the beginning has already been made.
Corporate world needs to realize that, to be successful in the rural market, they must go in with a
clear long term strategy. There must be a willingness to invest in rural market with as much
energy as they utilise to build brands in the urban one. Since rural efforts take longer to give
sustained results, they must be prepared for a long haul. Short term efforts may not deliver the
desired results on a sustained basis in rural areas.

a few years later in 1867 UA was burned to the ground by Union Troops, but that did not stop the
university because it reopened again in 1872 and became a Law School. The one thing that makes

University of Alabama has always been a dream school for me, but when breaking it down money
wise Kennesaw State is clearly the better option.
Figuring out how you are going to pay for college is the second most important thing and it makes
a decision easier. I am still in high school working a full time job at Belk. I give myself a budget
for every two weeks and put the rest of my money in savings. I look up scholarships daily and
am applying for as many as I can. $50 $10,000 scholarship is better than nothing and it keeps me
out of debt at the end and that is what matters. Unfortunately, I do not have a rich family and no
one will be handing me a lot of money for college, but that just means I need to work a little
harder and there is nothing wrong with that. I will also be taking out student loans to help and
my parents will be doing as much as they can. I ask myself questions like Do I need to go to school
because their football team is amazing or Do I need to focus on the long run and Is going to
Kennesaw going to get me just as good of job as Alabama and save me a little bit more money . So,
even with all of these plans I know that I am still going to have debt, but the real picture to look
at is how much debt do I want to have when I am already trying to find a job.

Operation Iraqi Freedom And Operational Design
In order to develop effective solutions for complex military problems, the Joint Community within
the US Military adopted the methodology of Operational Design in Joint Doctrine. This
methodology addresses the concept of complex, ill structured or wicked problems. In fact,
Lessons Learned as a result of operations conducted over the last 15 years played an instrumental
role in the continued development of this doctrine. Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) illustrates a
perfect case study for evaluation utilizing this methodology. Therefore, the intent of this paper is to
evaluate US Military campaign planning for OIF by using operational design as the framework for
this analysis. First, this paper looks at how planners and commanders interpreted pre invasion
civilian policy guidance, their understanding of the current operational environment, and how these
commanders defined the problem. Next, it identifies the strengths and weaknesses of the initial
approach. After discussing this initial approach, this paper examines how commanders assessed
the campaign and refined the approach to include how the reframing occurred. Lastly, it provides
examples of how these lessons learned shaped current joint planning policy and doctrine. Based on
initial guidance received from Secretary of Defense (SECDEF) Donald Rumsfeld in November
2001, CENTCOM Commander, GEN Tommy Franks and his team of planners perceived that the
original contingency plan developed in the event of war with Iraq

Imperialism In Nigeria
The history of Nigeria has been reshaped and affected by the presence of external sources
interfering with Nigerian culture and tradition. Europeans often colonized Nigeria for its central
role in the slave trade, as well as for land and valuable resources. In particular, British occupation
and Imperialization has had a significant impact on the country s history. Colonization benefited
the Nigerian people considerably, allowing the British to then likewise benefit. The British did
manage to create for themselves a hefty profit, and the Nigerian people did also reap the benefits
of British colonization. However, the British did not always rule justly and fairly, eventually
leading to the collapse of British influence in Nigeria.

Nigeria had built in contradictions, forcing the Nigerian government into a sophisticated form of
local government. While colonization encouraged industry in Nigeria it also forced many people
in the country to migrate to work elsewhere (Falola 17), away from their tribes and culture into
more industrialized cities. The British were constantly paranoid of a possible revolt from the
Nigerian peoples, so to prevent any united opposition to its authority, the British adopted a divide

possible. This only increased the amount of tribal and cultural diversity, which during this time
period usually resulted in disagreements leading to war. Western culture and education by Christian
missionaries was not always accepted, it often was strongly resisted by Muslim leaders (Falola 67),
again only creating additional problems among the peoples. Because Western education and

The Negative Factors Of People With Disability In The 20th...
The thing about living with any disability is that you adapt; you do what works for you . Stella
Young
Disability is a defined as a physical or mental condition that restrain someone s movements, senses,
or activities. Before the twentieth century, the negative attitude towards a person with disability
were not healthy, sickening, and abnormal. For many centuries, society viewed people with
disability an incompetent, not being able to help themselves. They also viewed disability as a
reminder of death. In the book the psychological and social impact by Marini, I., Stebnicki, M. A.
(2012) on mental illness the author elaborates on how society viewed disability as a reminder of
death. The author mentioned that the loss of body part or physical function constitutes the death of
a part, the anxiety associated with death is rekindled at the sight of a person with disability, and that
disability groups are a reminder of our mortality. Things took a turned for a changed though, in the
20th century there have been multiple changes on how society views a person with a disability.
People with disability in the 20th century are more respected and are better accommodated prior
to the 20th century. Despite the positive attitude towards people with disability, there are many
disability related factors that still influences some negative responses to disability. Level of
severity, degree of visibility, and the degree of cosmetic, are some of the disability related
factors that influences response to disability. When someone have a disability, the level of
severity plays an enormous role on how the person is viewed. The more severe a disability is,
the more negatively it is perceived. Marini, I., Stebnicki, M. A. (2012). Many people can in fact
agree to this statement. A person that have been diagnosed with a severe disability, often will
feel like a burden to society, peers and even family. The reason behind this is because with a
severe disability, the person that acquired the disability might not be able take care of themselves,
physically or financially. Also, they might not be able to provide for their family the way they use
to before acquiring the disability. A person that have acquired a severe disability might

Sontag is correct because when people view an imagethey look at it in an extremely basic and

The Role Of Mental Work In The Anticipation Of Future...

For the assignment I am to choose one poem and one work of fantasy from two different cultural
traditions. Choosing the fantasy was easy, but choosing the poem was a little difficult for me. For
the poem, I chose High Flight by John Gillespie Magee, Jr. The poem was listed in our textbook as
a sonnet. A sonnet is a very old form of poetry, having gained prominence during the Renaissance
period. It is also very sophisticated form and therefore not found much in poetry for
children(Russell, Chapter 6, 2009). A sonnet contains fourteen lines; each line with five iambic feet
or ten syllables. The rhyme scheme follows one of two different ... Show more content on

The writer used fantasy to describe what it might be like in heaven and all things you can do in
heaven. I think the fact that this is a poem is great. Poems are a good way to appeal to people.
Especially in the world today. Poems do not take that much time to read or comprehend. They are
simple and get the point across in a fun way. After reading this poem I think it represents
kinesthetic images because kinesthetic images refers to actions or motions. The work of fantasy I
chose is Peter and Wendy. A fantasy is any story of the impossible. Peter and Wendy is a fantasy
story that is now called Peter Pan. Peter is a boy who does not want to grow up. He flew into
Wendy s room and lost his shadow. Once they found his shadow Wendy sewed it back on so he
would not loose it again. While getting his shadow sewn back on Peter began telling Wendy and
her siblings stories of Neverland. He told them that in Neverland you never have to grow up.
Wendy and her siblings wanted to go with Peter. Peter sprinkled them with pixie dust and they all
flew to Neverland where they met The Lost Boys, Captain Hook, and Tiger Lilly. Their journey to
Neverland was filled with action and fantasy. In my opinion this fantasy would be considered a
journey fantasy because they all go on a journey to Neverland. It can also be considered a magical
fantasy because people do not really fly. I think

Symbolism In Ernest J. Gaines A Lesson Before Dying
Ernest J. Gaines, the author of A lesson Before Dying is an effective storyteller as he uses vast
amounts of stylistic elements to demonstrate his points on characters, racism and stereotypes.
Gaines uses elements like biblical allusions to draw subtle references about main characters, such
as Grant, Jefferson and even Miss Emma. Gaines uses symbolism to represent key points in the
novel like Jefferson s death, the community s willingness to contribute and the respect that
characters have for one another. Finally Gaines uses archetypes like hero and the underdog for
characters Grant and Jefferson to give the reader a perspective of what the characters may have to
go through with such a label. Using stylistic elements like biblical allusions,... Show more content

Grant is constantly being forced into the hero role even though he does not want this, and feels
that he can t make a difference. Grant is asked from the start to make Jefferson into a man before
his death, he can t think of why he was asked to do this and not somebody else, or how he should
even go about completing the task. Another example is when Grant is at the bar and overhears
two men talking badly of Jefferson, he raises to defend his new friend, getting hurt in the
process, but, Grant knows he stood up for what he believed was right. Then the tall one said
something, and the fat one snickered, and I thought I had heard enough. I went up to their table.
Shut up. (Gaines, 199) Even though Grant does not think he makes a difference, the author still
proves that Grant is a hero by showing he will stand up for what he thinks is right and is learning
new values along the way. Jefferson is displayed, by the author, as the underdog, except in this
case almost no one is rooting for him to win. Jefferson had barely talked in the beginning,
leaving those who visited him frustrated and unwilling to return. This showed a lot about his
character as he was so greatly ashamed of the accusation made against him that he couldn t bare
to talk to anyone, not wanting to let them down further with the words he could say. Ain t you go
n speak to me, Jefferson? He remained quiet. [...] You want to just talk to me? [...] He didn t
answer her. (Gaines 72) Jefferson later pulls through, and finds a calm in himself, he has full
conversations and finds new respect for others and a new friend, before his time ends. Gaines
shows his ability to represent character growth in at least two different ways, one coming to terms
with themselves and their values, and the breakthrough. By using archetypes to his advantage,
Gaines has

T.U.M MS (Informatik) Admissions
I am lucky. My fascination with computer began at an early age, ever since the time I got my first
desktop, true it began with playing several computer games at first. But then as time went by and I
moved to high school, I got allured by the computer science concepts and fundamentals that
elucidated the workings of a computer.
I was brought up in a family that not only allowed me my intellectual pursuits but helped foster
them. I received lot of support from my aunt and my mother, since they were the first ones to
understand the strengths in my skillset. I grew up with the notion that Computer Science is of
utmost importance to us and will continue doing so in the far future. I strongly believe the
forthcoming of mankind will be strongly influenced by the technology offered by computer
science. So at an early age, I began associating myself with fathoming the depths of the
information technology. While in middle school, I became an active member of the computer
club, where we were taught the basics of programming and using certain soft wares in daily life.
The following year, I took part in the National Cyber Olympiad and cleared the first round. This I

Hero s Journey Suffering Analysis
The universal connector, the one thing that connects and penetrates all backgrounds, the reason for
Hero s Journey is pain. Suffering drives love and all other emotions and influences the outcome of

Discussing The First World War
When discussing the First World War, there are a myriad of topics, theories and debates that can
be brought up, especially when its regarding to its breakout and and what lead to it. There are
multiple direct and indirect causes that all are interconnected with one another, making it very
difficult to just discuss about one topic without it overlapping with another completely different
topic. One of the most unquestionable causes that lead to the outbreak of the war was the
alliance system that was active in the early twentieth century and that was however set into
motion well before in the mid nineteenth century. The alliance system can be viewed as major
causes from two main different perspectives; it can be considered as a immediate cause or as a
indirect background cause. However, the existence of the alliances is crucial to the bringing
about of the first world war from both perspectives The existence of the multiple alliances and
treaties is considered as a major immediate and direct cause to the bringing about of the First
World War because it turned a conflict between two countries that could ve been easily contained
into a full scale world war that involved multiple countries. To fully understand how and why this
series of chain events were set into motion, one must know and comprehend all the past alliances,
treaties and accords that were created in the past and that in time would bring to the two major
European alliances, the Triple Entente and the Triple

European Imperialism Created a Rift with the World
European Imperialism created a rift within the world. European powers saw the use of Imperialism,
as well justified and a mean of spreading their influence and securing their strength. However the
nations which found themselves under rule of an imperialistic power did not share the Europeans
view on the favors they were giving. European nations saw themselves fit to divide the uncivilized
world, almost in a pie like manner, to be placed under their reign. With this came many
mistreatments of indigenous traditions and the people themselves. King Leopold the Second s
imperialistic claim on the Congo, and the European attempts at controlling Chinaboth exemplify the
disaster of Imperialism on the human condition, and the resistance created by the people.
Both Africa and Qing China saw itself under the hungry eye of European powers. Meeting and
arrangements were created, without the native s knowledge, by European power to subdivide
and subjugate these lands for their own purposes, disregarding what the people of these lands
desired. Despotism is a legitimate mode of government in dealing with barbarians, provided the
end be their improvement. (King Leopolds Ghost, 2) The European powers present at the Berlin
Conference of 1884, all saw themselves as a higher state of society, one that possessed a god
granted right to control the lands and the people of the less civilized nations. King Leopold himself
saw to obtain as much land as he pleased by manipulating the other

Reflection On A Long Way Gone By Ishmael Beah
When I first learned that Convocation was going to be an award ceremony with the writer of
our summer reading book, A Long Way Gone by Ishmael Beah, giving a speech, I did not think I
would like the event. I had only read a little of the book written by speaker, and I thought he was
only going to address the topics and situations that occurred in the novel. While I did almost nod
off during the part of the Convocation were they gave out awards, I appreciated everything else.
As a writer of poetry myself, I really enjoyed the poem written and read by the Professor of

Music And The Negative Effects Of Heavy Metal Music
Heavy metal music is often criticized for being a negative influence due to the lyrical content and
aesthetics of the genre. For those unfamiliar with heavy metal, it is easy to make this correlation
because of the darker and often taboo subject matter present throughout the music. With a little
more analysis, however, it can be discovered that these same aspects thought to be negative actually
bring forth positive results among metal listeners. What is found in heavy metal musicis actually a
display of emotions and energy that often have a purging effect which helps listeners of metal cope
with the constantly changing world around them. Heavy metal is used as a tool for expressing
emotion in a nonviolent way, rather than through physical destruction sought by some other genres.
Heavy metal is a lot like an experiment to the people who do not understand it or those who
dislike it. They look at it as a disgrace, dissect it, run tests on it, and analyze the results in order to
get ammunition to put it down.
Researchers from the University of Queensland in Australia have found that when volunteers were
exposed to extreme music genres including heavy metal, emo, hardcore, punk, and screamo, they
actually experienced a range of positive feelings, such as calmness, happiness or being inspired.
The study, conducted by honours student Leah Sharman and psychologist Genevieve Dingle and
published in the June 26, 2015 edition of Science Alert by writer Peter Dockrill , took 39

Military Bureaucratic Model
Position Paper
1.What is the difference between the military bureaucratic model implemented by Peel and the
military style model implemented by MacDonald?
First off, what is the military bureaucratic model? It was first created by Sir Robert Peel in 1829
and according to Christopher Murphy and Paul McKenna it can be described [as] the conventional
and standard model of urban police departments (2007). Later in the journal it is described that this
model brings advantages such as organizational stability, a recognized form of administrative
control and a level of personal discipline (2007). This model combines military origins and modern
bureaucratic theories, consequently leading the public being more involved in this policing style. ...

Historically, agencies were looking for tall and strong white males; however today, agencies are
looking for minorities, females, and individuals who do not need to be a certain height or weight.
This supports the concept of Peels model that diversity allows for better cooperation with the public
since people within that ethnicity, or race can understand each other better than an outsider, as well
as, equality in these agencies. The module also talked about what is considered to be organizational
fit. As mentioned previously, many agencies in Canada are adopting the community based policing
model. The module three notes state changing the culture requires changing behaviours... the
organizational fit... becomes clear (Dreaddy, 2016). With change in society, it would make sense for
agencies to alter their organizational fit standards to meet the criteria. As agencies adjust, this
supports the concept Peel had in regard to ensuring the publics respect and cooperation by
modifying their organizational

British Rugby Research Paper
The sport of Rugby has been played by the British and it has been around for almost 200 years. It
started in 1823 and was founded by William Web Ellis. There have been many versions of the
game from the early fifth century to the 16th century. These versions of the game all exist in
small towns like Atherstone in Warwickshire and Alnwick in Northumberland. (Origins of
Rugby). Some early versions had players move animal parts across the field, this was later
outlawed by the local authorizes. The main objective of this game is that players must score
more goals than opposing teams in an 80 minute period. (Rugby Rules) The teams are set up in

Essay about Reconstruction in the Post-Civil War Era
After the Civil War, the South lay in ruins. Streets were lined with the lifeless bodies of
Confederate soldiers whilst the buildings smoldered right down to their foundations. In an effort
to restore the South to its former charm, the U.S. government plunged the country into what is
now called the Reconstruction Era. President Lincoln s approach towards reconstruction, known
as the 10% Plan, was rivaled by the collaborative effort of Henry Davis and Benjamin Wade;
known as the Wade Davis Bill. Both plans never made it into effect, but they set a precedent for
more rivalries to come. President Johnson s election did not serve any justice towards the effort of
Reconstruction. He was a Southern Sympathizer who did all in his power to... Show more content

Feeding into the obvious prejudice of African Americans through President Johnson, the southern
state legislatures implemented the Black Codes. These restrictions severely limited the freedoms of
African Americans. In retaliation, Congress passed the Civil Acts Rights Act which stated that all
people born in the U.S. are citizens; and this included African Americans. Johnson initially vetoed
this bill, but Congress overrode it. This is just one example of Johnson s many disagreements with
Congress. At that time, Congress also passed the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments, which
abolished slavery, made everyone equal under the law, and gave African Americans the right to
vote; which angered southern farmers and former slave owners. President Andrew Johnson was
angered at the feat of Congress, so he decided to fire his Secretary of War, Edward Stanton. This
went against the Tenure of Office Act, thus giving the Senate grounds for impeachment. Although
acquitted, Johnson spent the rest of his term relatively mild mannered, rather than vetoing any and
every bill passed by Congress. Angered at the fact that African Americans now had the right to vote,
southern white farmers banded together to create the Ku Klux Klan. Their sole mission was to
create fear in the lives of many African Americans as well as stop them from expressing their
newly acquired rights. The Ku Klux Klan became somewhat of a form of domestic terrorism. In

Horus is obviously another anthropomorphized figure. Horus life is a long list of myths that are
strongly connected with the sun s movement in the sky. Horus being known as the solar messiah
(Or light) had an enemy known as Set. Set was represented the symbolism of the dark (Or night).
Horus and Set would battle every day. Horus would defeat Set every morning while Set would
overthrow Horus in the evening sending him into the underworld. Dark vs. light (Good vs. evil)
has been one of the most used mythological duals ever known to man and is still used to this day
on many levels. Horus was born on December 25th of the virgin Isis (Mary). His birth was
accompanied by the star in the east, three kings followed to locate and adorn the newborn savior.
He was a teacher at the age of twelve, at the age of 30 he was baptized by the figure known as
Adup, beginning his ministry. He had 12 disciples he traveled with while performing miracles such
as healing the sick and walking on water. Horus was given many names such as the Truth, the Light,
God s Anointed Son, the Good Shepherd, and the Lamb Of God. After he was betrayed by
Typhon he was crucified on the cross for 3 days and then resurrected. Sound familiar? This story
spans onto many other infamous gods of many other different cultures such as Attis (Frigia,
Greece) 1200 B.C, Krishna (India) 900 B.C, Dionysus (Greece) 500 B.C, Mithra (Persia) 1200
B.C. The list of these different god s with same story goes on, and on, and on, leading us to the
most recent solar messiah today, the Truth, the Light, God s Anointed Son, the Good Shepherd,

He also led the Union through the bloodiest war in American history to end slavery and preserve the Union. He also paved the way for strengthening the federal government and improving the U.S. economy. Abraham Lincoln was born in Hardin county, Kentucky in his parents log cabin on February 12, 1809. Lincoln had brother and a sister but his brother died when he was an infant. Lincoln had a hard childhood because when he was a little boy his family was forced to move to Perry county, Indiana due to land disputes in 1817. Shortly after being elected, Lincoln decided he wanted to be a lawyer, and in 1837 Lincoln moved to Springfield, Illinois to become a lawyer in the John T. Stuart law firm. In 1847 Abraham Lincoln began his political career when he served a single term in the U.S. House of Representatives. He was a lonely Whig from Illinois and struggled to find many political allies because he spoke out against the Mexican American War. It also made him unpopular in his home state so he decided not to run for a a second term and went back to being a lawyer. By the time the 1850 s came around railroads were expanding west rapidly and Lincoln was a lawyer and a lobbyist for the Illinois Central Railroad Company. In 1854 congress passed the Kansas Nebraska Act which repealed the Missouri Compromise and allowed states and territories to decide if they wanted to have slavery or not. Since Lincoln was against slavery and thought it was morally wrong he joined the Republican Party in 1856. In 1858 Lincoln ran for a seat in the senate against Stephen Douglas and accused him promoting slavery and said a house divided cannot ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Personal Statement For Wildlife Research I want to focus in analytical work with wildlife research because I want a career where I have the background knowledge to change and (implicate?) policies and laws containing wildlife issues. I want to gain more field work experience by participating in the SULI program, which gives me the ability to work more in a natural and outdoor setting. This internship will give me the practicality and application of the methods I have learned in my wildlifesurvey classes. I could gain invaluable experience in transect, trail camera, and small mammal trapping. My work with wildlife has mostly pertained to mammal, avian, and some reptile species. • 5. The Leadership Practice Of A Nursing Student As a nursing student, I have had great success forming therapeutic relationships with my clients and have received positive feedback from clinical instructors about my patient communication. However, I experience uncertainty when interacting with peers or colleagues. My lack of confidence translates into difficulty forming effective professional relationships. This assessment is reflected in my Clinical LeadershipSurvey as a deficit in the leadership practice of Encouraging the Heart. This practice includes behaviors such as recognizing contributions, celebrating accomplishments, and providing feedback (Patrick, Laschinger, Finegan, and Wong, 2011). The results of my baseline survey support the theory that my weakness is in interprofessional communication. Alternatively however, I recorded equal strength of fourteen out of fifteen in the other four leadership practices. Each of these four practices incorporates an element of Emotional Intelligence and reflective practice. Based on my clinical experiences and feedback from instructors, I agree with these results and can identify that interprofessional communication is the skill I must develop to become an effective leader. Personal Strategies Over the Term Throughout this semester, I worked through the Unfreeze and Move stages of Lewin s Force Field Model for change. Similar to the Assessment and Planning steps of the Nursing Process, the Unfreezing stage occurs when the individual identifies a need for change (Kelly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Analysis Of The Clean Air Act ( Caa ) Essay 1. Introduction Fairfax County, Virginia is located just west of Washington, DC (DC) and is considered part of the Metropolitan Baltimore Washington Region. Located along the mid Atlantic coast, Fairfax County is a temperate climate with four distinctive seasons and has an average of 42 inches of rain per year. Land use in Fairfax County consists of a mix of commercial, residential, and industrial uses. As the population continues to increase, available land area has decreased, which has contributing to urban sprawl and decreased air quality (Fairfax County, 2014). With rapid growth in the county, the transportation sectors have expanded increasing the amount of mobile sources for air pollution from both within the county and from outside the county. Air quality in Fairfax County has been improving; however, the county and the region have yet to meet federal air quality standards for 8 hour ozone and particle matter. 2. Environmental Air Quality Issue The Clean Air Act (CAA) was amended in 1990 to include the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) for pollutants considered harmful to public health and the environment (U.S. Environmental Protection Agency [EPA], 2014). Fairfax County and the DC metropolitan area are designated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as a moderate non attainment area for the eight hour ozone standard established by the NAAQS (Fairfax County, 2014). In addition to non attainment for ground level ozone, particle matter ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The stripes are made up of many very painful blisters caused by a certain type of virus. The varicella zoster, most commonly known as the chicken pox virus attacks the nerve roots in that area. The herpes zoster virus is in the herpes family, including HSV, herpes simple virus, which causes cold sores, fever blisters, and genital herpes. (WebMD, 2011) Most people are required to get the chicken pox shot when they are children although some do not. The chicken pox shot helps to keep out the virus by keeping it dormant in the nerves. The symptoms most commonly appear before the rashes or blisters. Then red patches on the skin form. These turn into clusters of blisters in stripes most commonly on the sides of the torso, but may appear on the eyes, face, mouth, and ears. The blisters break soon after this leaving the skin open to ulcers forming. The ulcers form a crust or scab to protect it. The scab will fall off in approximately two to three weeks. Scarring usually does not exist. Additional symptoms include chills, abdominal pain, muscle weakness, headache, joint pain, and difficulty moving some facial muscles. If a woman is exposed to shingles during her pregnancy, and acquires shingles, her pregnancy may be complicated. The mother may get very sick, and the baby may get chicken pox right away or within a few days of birth. If the pregnant woman has shingles within a few days before birth this can be very bad for the baby. The newborn baby might not be able to handle all the stress on the body of the virus attacking the nerves so young. It is not very common for this to happen although it can. Scientific means efficient diagnostic and target approach while management means completing things through others. In basic words scientific management implies utilization of standards and routines for science in the field of administration. Scientific management is the craft of knowing best and least expensive way . It is the craft of knowing precisely what could possibly be done whom it is to be done and what is the best and least expensive method for doing it. Definitions of Scientific Management The main definitions of scientific management are as follows: According to Fredrick Taylor (1911), The management of science means knowing exactly what you want workers or employees to do and seeing that they do it in the best and the cheapest way. As indicated by Harlow Person (1947) The management of science portrays that type of association and methodology in purposive aggregate exertion which lays on standards or laws inferred by the procedure of scientific analysis and investigation, rather than convention or on approaches decided empirically and casually by the procedure of experimentation. TI s organizational culture can be summed by a Do it ourselves approach. TI is run by engineers for engineers. The company prefers to hire straight out of college and incentivizes employees with salaries and tenures in addition to a company culture that rarely fires. By this, TI cultivates loyal and more importantly proud employees. It is no surprise therefore that there is an almost obsessive dislike of other company s products. Back then, as it is today, a computer was only as good as its software, and while other computer could benefit a much wider array of software, the TI computer, whilst maybe powerful, was very limited in its offering. TI was led by the fact that they hated the thought of sharing the lucrative profits of program software and made it purposely hard for third party software companies to write programs to run on their computer. So while software companies could write programs for any computer it was extremely difficult to write for the TI a 5) Could these mistakes be avoided (with respect to answers 2 4) These mistakes could have definitely been avoided, however this would have required TI to change their companies core culture of doing it ourselves . For example, TI could have made it easier for programmers to create software that would be compatible with TI s computer. They worked in the feilds, in shops and markets, in homes serving, they worked wherever they could. When the industrial revolution brought about new macherinery for old work it was not so easy of an adjustment. The people went along well with the new technology, but the machines and general atmosphere in factories was dreadful. Deaths were extremely common. Child labor was a necessity for the time period, but has since been rightfull illegaliszed. In 1800 s factories, where child labor was a common necessity, deaths were almost an every day experience. The young girl from whom the letter was written did not seem overly sensitive to relaying information about a death. For example, Mary writes to her father, Last Thursday one girl fell down and broke her neck which caused instant death...Last Thursday one girl fell down and broke her neck which caused instant death. • 11. Economic Inequality And Its Effects On Economic Growth The rich get richer, and the poor get poorer is an aphorism elicited from the topic of economic inequality. Over the past decades, economic inequality has been rising and at an increasing rate, expanding the gap between the rich and the poor. The direct relationship between inequality and poverty has shown that while inequality increases, so too does poverty. Increased inequality is harmful for economic growth and its effects also bear social implications. Although there are arguments on the consequences of wealth redistribution and its unintended impact on economic growth, wealth should be redistributed to reduce inequality and poverty, sequentially leading to more economic development and a higher standard of living for society. Economic inequality occurs in two forms: income inequality and wealth inequality. There remains a dispute between whether income inequality or wealth inequality should be the focus to reducing economic inequality. Considerable attention has been given to income disparities, however, it is important to realize that simply addressing income inequality will not adequately address the gross disparity between the poor and the ultra rich. For example, Bill Gates is estimated to earn around $7 billion per year (estimates vary wildly depending on how his income is calculated). However, even if this income was taxed at 100%, Gates would still have in excess of $70 billion in accumulated wealth. Gates could continue spending a million dollars per day, ... Conception and Birth of Heroes in Greek Mythology Essay Hero, the word strikes a universal chord making us think of exceptional and spectacular stories or deeds that far surpass any common feat. To the Greeks and many other cultures, the birth of these heroes is important. The birth of a hero sets them, apart often even before birth, from common mortals in Greek mythology. Birth is the first of many major events in our lives, our entrance into the world (Leeming). For heroes, that entrance must be as special as their lives will prove to be. A mundane birth is simply not an option for a hero, whether by the machinations of the gods or prophecies from an oracle, even the events surrounding their conception must be spectacular. One would be born to her human husband, and the other fathered by Zeus himself (Hamilton). Zeus bragged about his soon to be born son alerting and infuriating Hera to Hercules existence. Hera was notorious for tormenting her husbands illegitimate offspring since she couldn t harm Zeus outright for his infidelity (Hamilton). Hera persuaded Eileithyia to slow Alcmena s labor in a fit of piquГ©, almost killing her (Hamilton). Alcmena in fear of Hera s wrath gave her son to nature. Zeus (in some accounts Hermes) stole him away to Olympus, where he suckled at Hera s breast while she lay sleeping, granting him immortality (McLeish). When Hera awoke during the suckling she pushed Hercules away and the milk that sprayed out formed the Milky Way (Leeming). Zeus took the infant and placed him back in his crib before departing to Olympus again. Enraged Hera sent two massive serpents to kill Hercules and his brother as they lay sleeping ... This movie is full of historical references that watchers could easily deliver back without knowing that they could conjure up that information. Macbeth and Lady Macbeth as Evil Murderers in William Shakespeare s Play At the start of this play Macbeth is mentioned by witches which doesn t give him credibility with the audience, whilst soon after Macbeth is seen as a brave, loyal and trustworthy servant of his king, Duncan. Almost as soon as the play starts, you hear of Macbeth s bravery; Brave Macbeth well he deserves that name...Like Valour s minion. However, the news of the escape of Fleance shakes Macbeth to the core. Later on in the play, Macbeth has Macduff s entire family murdered out of spite for Macduff, which seems very brutal even by Macbeth s impressive standards. One thing I did notice to be consistent throughout the play was the deterioration of both Macbeth s and Lady Macbeth s mental condition. This all starts about the time of the murder of Duncan, when Macbeth sees a mysterious dagger leading him towards Duncan s chamber, and becomes even more apparent after the murder of Banquo, when Macbeth sees an apparition of Banquo, covered in blood. This could be his conscience. Lady Macbeth also begins to hallucinate and picture her hands covered in blood whilst she still sleeps. There is a lot of such bloody and violent imagery throughout the play. She eventually dies, although Shakespeare omits to mention how, and we are left to speculate. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although the story focuses on the works of Martha Ballard she makes it perfectly clear in the book that caring for the health of others was the responsibility of all women in the community. Very rarely in the book did Martha attend someone on by herself. Ulrich states, In such circumstances it was comforting to have the women with her; they could witness her efforts to ensure a safe delivery and they could assist with the sorrowful task of preparing an infant for burial. Several times in the diary Ballard referenced someone laying out the deceased in their funeral clothes or the after nurse that came to help with a newborn. Martha Ballard had her own family and home duties to attend. It is chronicled that she would often times stay for days with someone but it is unrealistic to think she could take care of all things herself. Ulrich discusses infant mortality rate and that the support of the community is what made Martha such a great midwife. Ballard did not simply just show up at a birth. The impending parents had to choose her and ask her to come. Such confidence comes by word of mouth from someone that has had their child delivered by Martha. This statistic demonstrates that the United States is far behind on gun legislation compared to other advanced nations in the world. While the U.S. has 5% of the world s population, it had 31% of all public mass shootings. The gun violence epidemic in the United States is most notably highlighted in the statistic provided by Willingham. When I first started trying to play the drums, I didn t understand how to do it. I had no idea that drumming even had different styles and beats. It took me quite awhile to fully comprehend how complex it really is. Drumming is not easy at first, can be very complex, and requires a lot of practice. Learning to play the drums was not easy when I first started figuring out how to play a beat. First of all, I didn t know which pieces I was supposed to play. After observing another person play the drums, I saw that I needed to play the snare (like in a marching band), hi hat (two cymbals put together), and bass drum(the big drum on the bottom), and this combination became my first beat. Trying to play the bass drumwith the hi hat and snare confused me. I was fine playing the snare and hi hat, but I always messed up when I tried adding the bass drum. I ended up having CJ play the bass drum while I played the hi hat and snare, which lasted for over two months until I could play it myself. • 24. Limitations Of Racist Speech Limits on Racist Speech in Public Contexts When the first amendment is brought up, one of the first things that comes to mind is free speech. Even though we don t give it much thought, our free speech does have limits. The more obvious limits such as knowing that you can t threaten people or shout Fire! in a crowded space make sense because it s easy to see how they cause direct harm. These general limits are important in order to ensure a safe and peaceful society, but when it comes to voicing prejudice views, it becomes difficult to determine what should and should not be restricted by the first amendment. After all, when negative and hurtful opinions are directed at a specific group of people, it becomes hard to see how protecting them could be a good thing. The important thing to remember is that when sharing these views becomes harmful and leads to harassment, it is no longer protected under the first amendment. However, everyone sees things differently, so drawing the line between what is just offensive and harassment needs to be determined and treated on a case by case basis. This will not only allow us to come to a solution for these individual problems, but it leaves room for discussion which will help to combat the root cause of prejudice. While trying to think of ways to regulate racist speech, we might think that an easy solution would be to place a ban on racist speech altogether, but this quickly becomes problematic. Banning specific opinions and beliefs would no longer make our speech free, and even when people are permitted to share wrong or offensive opinions, protecting free speech still has more potential benefit than harm. This gives us the right to speak out against our government when it is doing something we disagree with, but it also allows people to share their racist views. If we want to continue to reap the benefits, we also have to accept that racist speech is a part of free speech, thus protected under the first amendment. This is not the same thing as saying that racist speech should be unregulated; there are regulations for when hate speech becomes harmful, but the government shouldn t and isn t responsible for regulating it. The issue of regulating racist speech is a local ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They become even more important in the Asian and African context, where a majority of population is residing in rural areas. For centuries the rural world in India was static as a self sufficient unit of production and consumption, but it is no longer so. The rural setting is changing every day, with the corporate sector acting both as the carrier and bearer of the consequences of this change which is happening at an accelerating rate. Demographic profiles and spending patterns in rural India too are changing and marketers have to junk their old perception about rural India. Rural consumers who were on the receiving end so far are now gradually getting into position to dictate terms for the first time. There must be a willingness to invest in rural market with as much energy as they utilise to build brands in the urban one. Operation Iraqi Freedom And Operational Design In order to develop effective solutions for complex military problems, the Joint Community within the US Military adopted the methodology of Operational Design in Joint Doctrine. This methodology addresses the concept of complex, ill structured or wicked problems. In fact, Lessons Learned as a result of operations conducted over the last 15 years played an instrumental role in the continued development of this doctrine. Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) illustrates a perfect case study for evaluation utilizing this methodology. Therefore, the intent of this paper is to evaluate US Military campaign planning for OIF by using operational design as the framework for this analysis. First, this paper looks at how planners and commanders interpreted pre invasion civilian policy guidance, their understanding of the current operational environment, and how these commanders defined the problem. Next, it identifies the strengths and weaknesses of the initial approach. After discussing this initial approach, this paper examines how commanders assessed the campaign and refined the approach to include how the reframing occurred. Lastly, it provides examples of how these lessons learned shaped current joint planning policy and doctrine. Based on initial guidance received from Secretary of Defense (SECDEF) Donald Rumsfeld in November 2001, CENTCOM Commander, GEN Tommy Franks and his team of planners perceived that the original contingency plan developed in the event of war with Iraq ... The largest environmental disaster in U.S. history occurred on December 22nd, 2008 when a 84 acre pit containing toxic coal combustion residue at the Tennessee Valley Authority Fossil Plant in Kingston, Tennessee gave way. According to a report by AECOM, the firm hired to perform the root cause report, a combination of the high water content of the wet ash, the increasing height of ash, the construction of the sloping dikes over the wet ash, and the existence of an unusual bottom layer of ash and silt were among the long evolving conditions that caused the ash spill at Kingston Fossil Plant (TVA, 2010). Europeans often colonized Nigeria for its central role in the slave trade, as well as for land and valuable resources. Colonization benefited the Nigerian people considerably, allowing the British to then likewise benefit. While colonization encouraged industry in Nigeria it also forced many people in the country to migrate to work elsewhere (Falola 17), away from their tribes and culture into more industrialized cities. The British were constantly paranoid of a possible revolt from the Nigerian peoples, so to prevent any united opposition to its authority, the British adopted a divide and conquer policy (Falola 40), keeping Nigerian groups separate from one another as much as possible. This only increased the amount of tribal and cultural diversity, which during this time period usually resulted in disagreements leading to war. Stella Young Disability is a defined as a physical or mental condition that restrain someone s movements, senses, or activities. Before the twentieth century, the negative attitude towards a person with disability were not healthy, sickening, and abnormal. For many centuries, society viewed people with disability an incompetent, not being able to help themselves. They also viewed disability as a reminder of death. In the book the psychological and social impact by Marini, I., Stebnicki, M. A. (2012) on mental illness the author elaborates on how society viewed disability as a reminder of death. The author mentioned that the loss of body part or physical function constitutes the death of a part, the anxiety associated with death is rekindled at the sight of a person with disability, and that disability groups are a reminder of our mortality. Things took a turned for a changed though, in the 20th century there have been multiple changes on how society views a person with a disability. People with disability in the 20th century are more respected and are better accommodated prior to the 20th century. Despite the positive attitude towards people with disability, there are many disability related factors that still influences some negative responses to disability. Level of severity, degree of visibility, and the degree of cosmetic, are some of the disability related factors that influences response to disability. When someone have a disability, the level of severity plays an enormous role on how the person is viewed. The more severe a disability is, the more negatively it is perceived. Marini, I., Stebnicki, M. A. (2012). Many people can in fact agree to this statement. A person that have been diagnosed with a severe disability, often will feel like a burden to society, peers and even family. The reason behind this is because with a severe disability, the person that acquired the disability might not be able take care of themselves, physically or financially. Also, they might not be able to provide for their family the way they use to before acquiring the disability. A person that have acquired a severe disability might ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

On one level, Sontag is correct because when people view an imagethey look at it in an extremely basic and simple way without looking at it from a different perspective. They are simple and get the point across in a fun way. After reading this poem I think it represents kinesthetic images because kinesthetic images refers to actions or motions. Gaines uses symbolism to represent key points in the novel like Jefferson s death, the community s willingness to contribute and the respect that characters have for one another. Grant is asked from the start to make Jefferson into a man before his death, he can t think of why he was asked to do this and not somebody else, or how he should even go about completing the task. Another example is when Grant is at the bar and overhears two men talking badly of Jefferson, he raises to defend his new friend, getting hurt in the process, but, Grant knows he stood up for what he believed was right. Then the tall one said something, and the fat one snickered, and I thought I had heard enough. I went up to their table. Shut up. (Gaines, 199) Even though Grant does not think he makes a difference, the author still proves that Grant is a hero by showing he will stand up for what he thinks is right and is learning new values along the way. Jefferson is displayed, by the author, as the underdog, except in this case almost no one is rooting for him to win. Jefferson had barely talked in the beginning, leaving those who visited him frustrated and unwilling to return. This showed a lot about his character as he was so greatly ashamed of the accusation made against him that he couldn t bare to talk to anyone, not wanting to let them down further with the words he could say. Ain t you go n speak to me, Jefferson? He remained quiet. [...] You want to just talk to me? [...] He didn t answer her. (Gaines 72) Jefferson later pulls through, and finds a calm in himself, he has full conversations and finds new respect for others and a new friend, before his time ends. There are multiple direct and indirect causes that all are interconnected with one another, making it very difficult to just discuss about one topic without it overlapping with another completely different topic. One of the most unquestionable causes that lead to the outbreak of the war was the alliance system that was active in the early twentieth century and that was however set into motion well before in the mid nineteenth century. The alliance system can be viewed as major causes from two main different perspectives; it can be considered as a immediate cause or as a indirect background cause. However, the existence of the alliances is crucial to the bringing about of the first world war from both perspectives The existence of the multiple alliances and treaties is considered as a major immediate and direct cause to the bringing about of the First World War because it turned a conflict between two countries that could ve been easily contained into a full scale world war that involved multiple countries. European powers saw the use of Imperialism, as well justified and a mean of spreading their influence and securing their strength. European nations saw themselves fit to divide the uncivilized world, almost in a pie like manner, to be placed under their reign. For those unfamiliar with heavy metal, it is easy to make this correlation because of the darker and often taboo subject matter present throughout the music. With a little more analysis, however, it can be discovered that these same aspects thought to be negative actually bring forth positive results among metal listeners. What is found in heavy metal musicis actually a display of emotions and energy that often have a purging effect which helps listeners of metal cope with the constantly changing world around them. Heavy metal is used as a tool for expressing emotion in a nonviolent way, rather than through physical destruction sought by some other genres. • 50. Essay about Reconstruction in the Post-Civil War Era After the Civil War, the South lay in ruins. Streets were lined with the lifeless bodies of Confederate soldiers whilst the buildings smoldered right down to their foundations. In an effort to restore the South to its former charm, the U.S. government plunged the country into what is now called the Reconstruction Era. President Lincoln s approach towards reconstruction, known as the 10% Plan, was rivaled by the collaborative effort of Henry Davis and Benjamin Wade; known as the Wade Davis Bill. Both plans never made it into effect, but they set a precedent for more rivalries to come. President Johnson s election did not serve any justice towards the effort of Reconstruction. Feeding into the obvious prejudice of African Americans through President Johnson, the southern state legislatures implemented the Black Codes. These restrictions severely limited the freedoms of African Americans. In retaliation, Congress passed the Civil Acts Rights Act which stated that all people born in the U.S. are citizens; and this included African Americans. Johnson initially vetoed this bill, but Congress overrode it. This is just one example of Johnson s many disagreements with Congress. At that time, Congress also passed the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments, which abolished slavery, made everyone equal under the law, and gave African Americans the right to vote; which angered southern farmers and former slave owners. Although acquitted, Johnson spent the rest of his term relatively mild mannered, rather than vetoing any and every bill passed by Congress. Angered at the fact that African Americans now had the right to vote, southern white farmers banded together to create the Ku Klux Klan. Their sole mission was to create fear in the lives of many African Americans as well as stop them from expressing their newly acquired rights. The Ku Klux Klan became somewhat of a form of domestic terrorism. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
