How Subliminal Messaging Affects Consumer Behavior
How Subliminal Messaging Affects Consumer Behavior
The subject of subliminal messaging in relation to consumer behavior presents an interesting
dichotomy between the scientific community and the general public. The purpose of this paper is
to discover what, if any, effect subliminal messaging has on consumer behavior, as well as shed
light on the differing positions regarding this controversial subject, and provide a brief historical
background on the material.
Before the topic of subliminal messaging can be addressed, one must first understand subliminal
perception. Subliminal perception is defined as the processing of stimuli presented below the level
of the consumer s awareness. (Solomon, p.629) Subliminal messaging is ... Show more content on

The statements made by Keys in concert with the findings of Vicary would appear to paint a
very clear picture of subversive forces at work compelling the consumer to make purchasing
decisions that are driven by inexplicable urges outside of their conscious realm. The scientific
facts, however, indicate that much of the positions of Keys and Vicary are, at best, hyperbole. The
president of the Psychological Corporation, Dr. Henry Link challenged Vicary to reproduce his
findings in another study, but Vicary was not able to do this. (Adams) Since Vicary made his
claims about projected messages, his claims have failed to stand up to scientific scrutiny. Research
has shown that strong stimuli yields strong response, and the weaker stimuli produce the weakest
responses. (Rogers, p. 15) Furthermore, Vicary admitted in 1962 interview with Advertiser Age
magazine that the entire program had been nothing more than a gimmick. (Danzig) It is estimated
that Vicary had made millions of dollars from working as a consultant during his В‘research.
(Rogers, p. 15)
Dr. Key s positions were not above critical review from his peers as well. Jack Haberstroh took Key
s hypothesis to task in his book Ice Cube Sex when he states, Subliminal advertising does not affect

ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF ORGANIZATIONAL
CULTURE
1. INTRODUCTION
One of the significant elements while discussing about organization development is to discuss its
own existing culture as the culture itself is part of organization behavior that gives significant role
in shaping organizational sustainability.
Above all there is a need to recognize the right culture for any organization to achieve excellence.
Peters and Waterman (1982) clearly described organizational cultureas the human side of an
organization with managers key role being to shape culture by making meaning for employees out
of the confusing place that some organization can be. It is no doubt one of the absolute function of

While preparing the planned change, an organization must be able to identify its own culture.
According to Md Zabid Abdul Rashid, Sambasivan and Azmawani Abdul Rahman (2003)
organizational culture is associated with attitudes towards organizational change. Different types of
organizational culture have different level of acceptance on attitude towards organizational change.
Organizational culture gives impacts on organizational change process. While referring to the
transformational type of change, there is no doubt that the transformation process, which regarded
as the most complex and comprehensive type of change process requires radical shift that covers
change in culture, behaviour and mindset of all the components within the organization.
Thus it is clearly understood here that complete understanding of organizational culture will lead to
and rightful approaches to tackle any organizational development and change process.
Organizational culture decides the way its members make decisions, the way they make
interpretation, manage and operate. In other words, organizational culture affects organization s
competitive position. Inability to manage organizational culture will give negative consequences on
organization s performance.

Article: Does mandatory IFRS adoption improve information quality in low investor protection
countries? Introduction The article is showing the relationship between IFRS adoption and the
effect on the quality of the information in low investor protection countries. International Financial
Reporting Standards (IFRS) is a set of accounting standards, developed and maintained by a not for

framework and also a general guideline to all firms such as public companies, so that they can

Common sense suggests that if there is a right handprint on the wall, the shooter pulled the
trigger with his left hand. Since C is left handed, that means that they pulled the trigger. The final
piece of evidence that points to C as the murderer is his silverware was on the left side of his
platter. His coffee cup was also on the left side of his plate. Usually, if the silverware and cups
are placed on the left hand side of the plate, it means that the diner is left handed. So this means

Essay On Electronic Cigarettes
Conventional cigarettes emit tobacco smoke, which is the most significant air quality tissue.6 The
most harm aspect of tobacco smoke is the combustion of chemicals.4 It has been declared a Group 1
carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Cancer.5 Carcinogens are continuously
emitted through a smokingsession and is exposed to smokers and nonsmokers alike.4 Smoking in
public buildings has been banned in the United States and Europe to improve indoor air quality.6
As an alternative, electronic cigarettes (e cigarettes) were developed.6 An electronic cigarette is a
battery, microchip, red LED that acts like a burning cigarette tip, a cartridge with a liquid, and a

Electronic cigarettes and cartridges are unregulated and vary from company to company. This
results in electronic cigarettes with different designs, materials, combustion voltages, and liquid
cartridge concentrations.4 Other differences include an open or closed system used in an e
cigarette and the user s individual puffing topography.3 All studies provided in this paper conclude
that electronic cigarettes produce lower levels of pollutants, making electronic cigarettes safer for
the user, bystanders, and the environment when compared to conventional cigarettes. Schober et al.
reports further research needs to be conducted to address long term effects of using electronic
cigarettes. Oh et al. reports further research should be done on the various nicotine dosing, flavors
of liquid cartridges, and various voltages. Oh also remarks that these studies use different brands
and types of electronic cigarettes that have different doses of liquid cartridges. Ario et al. reports
that second hand exposure should be further investigated to find possible health issues. Colard et al.
reports that further studies should be done to report concentrations in different locations, with
different distances from the user and the bystanders, and with different vaping behaviors (puff
volume, frequency, and inhalation). Bertholon et al. reports that the toxicity of long terms will vary
based on the additives and contaminants in propylene glycol and/or glycerol. O Connell et al.
reported that there are limits in the studies because there were different methods used, in addition to
the different designs and manufacturing of electronic cigarettes, and because some findings were
not replicated. O Connell et al. proposes focusing on consumer exposure and using different product
types in different settings with different volunteer

Technetium 99m Essay
Technetium 99m Technetium 99m (99mTc) is a short lived (half life about 6 hours) metastable
nuclear isomer used in nuclear medicine. Technetium 99m is a synthetic radioisotope produced
from molybdenum 99. The core structure of technetium 99m is shown below. There are two other
isotopes of technetium. One being technetium 98 and the other 99. Both of these have dramatically
longer half lives than there partner technetium 99m. Technetium 99m in isotope notation is

Caesar Rodney Research Paper
Caesar Rodney, the first of the delegation from Delaware, was a native of that state, and was born
about the year 1730. His birth place was Dover. The family, from which he was descended, was
of ancient date, and is honorably spoken of in the history of early times. We read of Sir Walter
De Rodeney, of Sir George De Rodeney, and Sir Henry De Rodeney, with several others of the
same name, even earlier than the year 1234. Sir Richard De Rodeney accompanied the gallant
Richard Coeur de Lion in his crusade to the Holy Land, where he fell, while fighting at the siege of
Acre. In subsequent years, the wealth and power of the family continued to be great. Intermarriages

Soon after the settlement of Pennsylvania by William Penn, William Rodney, one of the
descendants of this illustrious family removed to that province and after a short residence in
Philadelphia, settled in Kent, a county upon the Delaware. This gentleman died in the year
1708, leaving a considerable fortune, and eight children, the eldest of whom is the subject of the
following sketch. Mr. Rodney inherited from his father a large landed estate, which was
entailed upon him, according to the usages of distinguished families at that day. At the early age
of twenty eight years, such was his popularity, he was appointed high sheriff in the county in
which he resided, and on the expiration of his term of service, he was created a justice of the
peace, and a judge of the lower courts. In 1762, and perhaps at a still earlier date, he represented
the county of Kent in the provincial legislature. In this station he entered with great zeal and
activity into the prominent measures of the day. In the year 1765, the first general congress was

Reflection Paper About Religion
Religion is an organized system in which people pursue to practice their faith and worship to a
super natural controlling power. I always wondered how cultures around the world all developed
the concept and belief of a higher being, even prior to contact. It is as if a larger force had
touched every inch of this earth, blessing man with the gift of faith. With that in mind, when
examining different religions, I like to think of it as different languages. After careful thought and
research, different religions appear to be like different languages expressing similar messages. For
example, in the English language we say Hello to greet people. On the other hand, in the Spanish
language people say Hola . Hello and Hola mean the same... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Both religions concentrating and directly reflecting upon the life and personality of their noble
figures, Buddha for Buddhism and Jesus Christ for Christianity. The figures serve as models in
which the two religions lay their foundation and spiritual goals for all religious disciplines.
Robert Montgomery in Special Persons and the Spread of Religions argues that, all human
beings are drawn to other human beings (since humans are social), but they are drawn
particularly to certain special human beings as evidenced by the large numbers of people who
gather around them and follow them. (Montgomery) Montgomery states that Buddha and Jesus
are similar in the fact that each model possessed special characteristics that drew people to their
word and message found within the religions. Of course, it is important to realize the differences
even amongst the messages of Buddhism and Christianity. Buddhism bases their moral codes
from the concept of karma. Karma grasps upon the concept that good actions lead to good effects,
while bad actions produce the opposite (Molloy 136). Meanwhile, Christianity focuses on the idea
of a divine judgment, in which encompasses the belief that God will punish evildoers (Molloy
342). As a result, the actions and morals of the followers are determined by different forces,

Lonesome Dove Analysis
Lonesome Dove is a story in the western genre written by Larry McMurty. The book was
published in 1985 and was the п¬Ѓrst book of a tetralogy, but third in chronology. The book is
about a strenuous cattle drive from Texas to Montana. Lonesome Dove was a wholesome and
interesting book that engages your curiosity from the beginning to the end. In the beginning of the
story they are in a small south Texas town called lonesome Dove, where the two main characters
Augustus McCrae and Woodrow Call had settled down and started a livery stable after being
famous Texas rangers. The journey starts off after Jake Spoon rides into town talking about
Montana and the untapped potential. That is what sets them off on their journey driving cattle from
Texas to Montana. As their journey began they had many dilemmas, but I would say their п¬Ѓrst
dilemma was the death of Sean O Brien a young Irish man found with his brother Allen O Brien
when they collected the cattle for the drive. That part of the story was the п¬Ѓrst major event of the
story driving fear in many of the crew. As the drive went north, so did Jake spoon, who brought
along a woman by the name of Lorena Wood. Lorena is a major character in the story as she is a
love interest of both Augustus McCrae, Jake Spoon ,and desired by many. The story had an
interesting offshoot that involved a sheriff from fort smith, Arkansas by the name of July Johnson.
This story begins with Jake Spoon who was in fort smith gambling when he got into a

Emily Dickinson Beliefs
Emily Dickinson, born in 1830 in Amherst, Massachusetts, is regarded as one of America s best
poets. After a poor experience at Mount Holyoke Female Seminary, where she was regarded as a
no hope, her writing career took off in full swing. Although her family was more conservative,
regular churchgoers, and socially prominent town figures, Dickinson preferred a socially reserved
lifestyle that renounced the traditional values of her day (Baym, 1189 93). The iconoclastic spirit
pervasive in Emily Dickinsons poetry reflects her conflict with the traditions of New England
society.
First, Emily Dickinson s poetry1 continuously rejected society s perception of death. As death
approaches, the one entering eternity and those nearby are often scared ... Show more content on

She, growing up in a religious family, determined that religion was not the pathway for her and she
would instead be the only influence on her life (Emily, no pag.). To the rest of New England,
God was loving, caring, and a Father; however, her poetry reveals that to her, He was a mystical
figure in the sky who oscillated back and forth from loving to harsh. Dickinson s poetry often
mocks the Bible, God, prayer, and church attendance. Her poetry s is commonly irreverent,
calling the Bible an antique Volume Written by faded Men At the suggestion of Holy Spectres
(F1577). Dickinson repeatedly mocks God calling Him Burglar! Banker! and sarcastically
Father! (F39). In a short, three lined poem, Dickinson jeers at the traditional, Christian phrase In
the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost Amen. Dickinson instead worships
nature In the name of the Bee And of the Butterfly And of the Breeze Amen! (F23). Although
subtle, it reveals that she knows enough about religious ways to parody it in a satirical fashion.
Dickinson again belittles the effectiveness and importance of prayer. Of Course I prayed And did
God Care? He cared as much as on the Air A Bird had stamped her foot And cried Give Me (F581).
To remain true to herself, Dickinson belittled the importance of faithful church attendance ( Emily,
no pag.). Some keep the Sabbath going to

Constitutional Democratic Republic Political Change
Next, a constitutional democratic republic facilitates political change and progress. This is a
predominant attribute surrounding a government, as without it, no wrong can be solved or ailment
corrected. The American Suffrage movement is an impeccable example of political change being a
necessity in order to grant women suffrage. Due to the availability and mercurial nature of a
constitutional democratic republic, even massive alterations such as granting suffrage to a group of
citizens is possible. Without this allowance for political change and social progress women would
most likely not be allowed to vote. Thus, the 19th amendment is a visible demonstration of this
allowance for political change even under extreme circumstances (Constitution).... Show more

This hinders the establishment of a one party states, such as demonstrated in China, North Korea,
Cuba, Laos, Vietnam, and Eritrea. One party states remove the ability of citizens to think for
themselves, independent from the ideas of the government. It also limits a citizen s ability to
project their opinion as there is only a singular party as an option. This party is the preference of
the government and often times has the government s sustainability as the paramount concern
(Gale). Yet, a multi party/dual party state allows for a broader scheme of citizens opinions and
preferences to be incorporated into the government. As well, the re election cycle every four
years, allows for the possibility of a new party to take the presidency, giving a refresh on mass
opinion, and making sure the democratic preference has the presidential seat. This idea of a re
election cycle is also seen in the Senate, the Supreme Court and Gubernatorial positions. Thus,
these frequent modifications to our nation s leadership allow for a much needed availability for
political change and progress in new

First Language Acquisition In Children

First language acquisition is the first words that the child speaks or says and it s the process by
which the child learn, speaks and write, and it is the initial stages of language development in
humans infants, children begin learning their language since they re babies with uncorrected
grammar until many years they will be able to learn the language with a perfect grammar after
going to school and have some support with their family, on the psychology side, Many of
psychologist have a different point of view in the first language acquisition and every psychologist
have a different theory about the language acquisition. And some of the theorists says that the
language is acquired while the other theorists said that the language is learnt, so every
psychologist have a theory about the language acquisition, and in my essay I will be talking about

Graduate students have already developed a certain level of proficiency in learning new materials
and solving problems independently.
I believe the best approach for advanced graduate courses is to guide the students through a broad
range of topics so that they can perform in depth reading of the materials outside the class.
Following this philosophy, instead of presenting traditional lectures,
I gave reading assignment for each chapter of the main textbook, and designated one student to
give a lecture to the class every time. Toward the end of each lecture,
I added important points that were either not covered or not explained very clearly.
In this way, everyone in the class was actively engaged in reading course materials and participating
in discussions. Besides, I regularly organized reading session of original scientific papers to
stimulate thinkings and intriguing discussions.
I have taught the undergraduate course on textit{``Intermediate Electrodynamics } in the Spring

This is a core course for junior students majored in physics. It is the first time students
systematically learn the important subjects such as Maxwell Equations and Special

Abstract Hot tubs are very popular across America due to their relaxation as well as health benefits.
Hot tubs have been attributed health benefits ranging from relief of muscle and joint pain, to help

The problem with chlorine is that it reacts with organic matter in water to form chloroform, a known
carcinogen. The efficiency of chlorines disinfection capabilities depends on the free chlorine in the
water. Free chlorine refers to the amount of chlorine in the water after the demand for chlorine in
the water has been satisfied. In other words, the free chlorine is the one that s available to disinfect
or kill microorganisms. Since the free chlorine in hot tub water is recommended to be around 3 5
ppm, this means that there will be a higher concentration of chloroform in the tub water than in for
example tap water that has free chlorine level of only 1 2ppm when leaving the treatment plant. In
addition the high temperature of the water combined with the aeration by the jet bubbles will
enhance the 2 volatilization of the chloroform into the air and this increases the exposure due to
inhalation. The high temperature of water will also increase dermal absorption of chloroform. Of
special interest, are wooden hot tubs. In this case, there is a constant source of organic
matter(wood) for the chlorine to react with, and therefore increased concentrations of chloroform.
This study will try to prove the hypothesis that using hot tubs, results in elevated exposures to
chloroform due to various factors that enhance

4th Amendment Research Paper
In 1791, a vital document for the United States of America was written. The Bill of Rights. James
Madison fulfilled the Anti Federalists wishes by adding a list of rights to the constitution in order
for the document to be ratified. The Bill of Rights addresses rights and freedoms which were
violated under British rule. Although all 10 amendments are important, I have analyzed each one
and ranked their importance. In 1791, some amendments would seem more important than others
due to the recent events from the Revolution. Each amendment is relevant in its own way but some
are exercised more than others by individuals in the United States. The first amendment of the Bill
of Rights is the most important amendment.

The Secretary Chant, By Marge Piercy
What attitudes does each of the three authors have about the consequences of work? The authors
of the three texts all share a similar attitude towards the consequences of work, which is that it
can be detrimental to one s physical and mental wellbeing. Author of text One The Secretary
Chant, Marge Piercy describes the stressful life of a secretary and how the accumulation of
stressful events leads to the secretary feeling mechanical and dehumanised. Piercy implies that,
with overwork, people can begin to lose a sense of who they are. In this instance, the Secretary
believes she is no longer a human, but instead a part of the office as her voice has been lost in the
quantity of work that must be done. Similarly, Steven Poole, who wrote text... Show more content

This is further enhanced by the use of emotive language and a detached and melancholy tone.
The use of the verb, hang, and the noun, chains, acts as a possible allusion to other historical
events of oppression such as slavery. Such vocabulary choices emphasise the way in which the
secretary feels trapped and objectified in her own work environment. The secretary feels
trapped because of the way that she has been objectified, which suggests that she is only valued
for her ability to work like other office equipment, evident in line 1 where she states, my hips are
a desk. The mechanical way that the secretary is employed establishes how she no longer feels
as though she is a human. Instead, she is simply part of the office and the repetitive
onomatopoeic, buzz, and, clicks, that define workplace environments. This is supported by line
21, where the persona states, file me under W because I wonce was a woman. In a similar way,
text 2 considers the damaging effect of work through a satirical narrative voice. This is achieved
by exploring how humans are essentially slaves of the digital world. When humans go on
holiday; an event that epitomises quite the opposite of work, they are still plagued by, the fear
that catching up on a fortnight s email will be epically disgusting labour. Whilst the prospect of
reading one s emails is not the crux of the article, it acts as a humours anecdote that reminds
readers of the dangers of letting the digital world control them. The light hearted narrative voice of
the text is emphasised by the use of colloquial terms and inclusive language, such as, that first
volume of Karl Ove Knausgard you ve been meaning to read, as it appeals to the demographic of

Learning how to avoid probate can save heirs time and money, prevent family disputes, and allow
easy transfer of inheritance property upon death. Many people are not even familiar with probate
let alone how to prevent it from occurring. Probate is required within all states of the U.S. to ensure
decedent estates are settled according to inheritance laws. It is a time consuming process that can
take several months to complete.
Becoming educated about how to avoid probate is as simple as conducting research on the Internet
or consulting with a family law attorney or estate planner. Many banks, credit unions, and financial
advisors offer estate planning services for a nominal fee.

Kran By Heart Analysis
The HBO Documentary, Koran by Heart, directed by Greg Barker, further reiterates the
importance of the Quran on the daily lives of Muslims. Though in the past, we have learned that
the Quran is the holy text of Islam, making stark comparisons to the holy texts of other
Monotheistic religions such as the Bible for the Christians and the Torah for the Jews, but in
retrospect, the Quran delves into other matters beyond just religion. Dr. Salem Abdel Galil,
Deputy Minister of Egypt s Ministry of Religious Affairs, says that the Koran for Muslims is not
just a book of worship, but it serves as a guide for life. In other words, the Quran is not just a
compilation of religious accounts; rather it holds information to further develop a follower s
interpersonal and communicative skills along with guidance on how to live a tolerant and peaceful
life with others. Another takeaway from this film, and what I believe to be one of the central
messages that director Greg Barker is trying to convey, is that the Quran is the ultimate source of
unification for Muslims. This is apparent throughout the documentary, which initially starts with the
description of the annual Quran reciting competition held in Cairo, Egypt. This competition brings
together approximately 110 reciters, of all ages and both genders, from a total of 70 different
countries. The majority of the participants are not native Arabic speakers, the language of the
Quran, but yet they have all memorized the Quran in Arabic.

up to a door on the side of the gym and I knocked, yielding no response, to my dismay. In a search
for the band, I made a round trip, checking the church s office and the sanctuary, but they were
nowhere to be found. Was practice cancelled? Confused, I call Keith, the leader, and when he
finally answered, I asked, Is band practice still going on tonight? Yeah, I m just running late, he

After turning the alarm off, Keith held open the door to the left that led to the wide open gym
and then the four of us made our way to the youth room, again to our left. The camp style lights
came on, revealing that the youth room was a disarray of chairs, sports supplies, and, on the
stage , various cords and other audio equipment. Beside the stage was the door I had knocked.
The room smelled faintly like new carpet; it clearly had been renovated recently. The white walls
were decorated with strange pattern of navy blue, lime green, and golden yellow paint streaks,
but the mixture of colors gave the room a welcoming vibe, very pleasant for my first practice.
Then, Karli got out her half size keyboard and Keith his laptop, his even smaller keyboard, and
what appeared to be a drum synthesizer. Meanwhile, Jenna hooked up the vocal system up to the
audio mixer beside Keith. While they set up their equipment, I set down my equipment beside a
dusty, full sized keyboard. In a search for an outlet to plug my amp into, my eyes darted around the
room for a few moments, which thankfully led Keith to reveal a compartment in the floor that
housed a set of outlets.
When the band s instruments were ready, Karli, Keith and Jenna made sure they all had the same
sheet music, some of which I was sure I lacked, but they did not ask me right away. Instead, Karli
and Jenna distracted from the task by telling

Superb Motivation. Literature Possesses The Capability
Superb Motivation Literature possesses the capability to vastly influence the world, and those who
find a way to impact literature drive this powerful influence. Few people in the history of literature
publicized as many thoughts and critical views as T.S. Eliot, and by disseminating his opinions
throughout the literature world, Eliot found a way to communicate new perspectives and tastes in
literature (Worthen). Born in the fall of 1888, T.S. Eliot grew up to become one of the most
influential poets of all time as he found a unique way of communicating through literature.

Beyond the poetry he wrote, Eliot drove the world to modernist views through essays and
otherliterature. Containing stories, news, and opinions of both T.S. Eliot and others who wrote
about him, The Letters of T.S. Eliot offers an inside perspective on Eliot s life (Eliot and
Haffenden). Volume 1 of the revised edition of the letters consists of Patrick Query describing
how T.S. Eliot felt so much passion for culture and how it must improve (Letters, Volume 1). In
the volume, the writer states Eliot started a movement to modernize literature all on his own.
While society generally acted apathetically towards life, Eliot demonstrated an intense passion
for making the world a better place, and he strove for a culture in which people actually inserted
energy and passion into life (Poetry Foundation). Also, in John Worthen s biography of T.S. Eliot,
Worthen expresses a belief Eliot focused the entire masterpiece of Four Quartets on illustrating to
his audience the need for people to focus more on the beauty of life, despite painful times.
(Worthen). After addressing the aspects of society needing improvement, Eliot wrote several
poems on each of these aspects which demonstrated the beauty of his opinion and described? a

Achilles Villain
There is a fine line between a villain and hero. Not only are deeds taken into consideration, but
actions as well. Much like real life, it is never easy knowing who plays what role until the final
moments of their life. But is it fair to just take the bad moments and use them against a person?
Does not the means justify the end? Achilleshad a struggle within himself as well as externally
with Agamemnon. Achilles had to decide whether he should be taken advantage of to help his
city or go against his principles to save his pride. During Achilles time, the Greeks considered him
a hero due to his birth as a demigod. He was the son of the nymph Thetis and the mortal Peleus.

Troy could not fall without the help of Achilles, as prophesied by Calchas.Achilles had to make a
tough decision prior to just letting them walk into their own deaths. Agamemnon demanded that
Achilles bride and war prize Briseis be given to him. Achilles believed that the demand was unjust
and resembled that of Paris kidnapping Helen. He was in the same position as Menelaos. The
argument between himself and Agamemnon was as righteous as war to Achilles. Even though
Agamemnon offered to return Briseis and other numerous gifts, Achilles stays angry. This does
indicate one of Achilles flaw: excessive pride. Agamemnon may have offered gifts, but none
amount to the public insult that Achilles had suffered. Achilles would rather have his pride restored
then have anything in the world. Agamemnon also has a history of given and taken back gifts

The Media s Hierarchy Of Human Needs
The purpose of the news media is to broadcast information in different mediums, gain a larger
audience (web, print, and television), satisfy different audience s through the use of surveillance,
and to do all of the above and make a profit. The media will broadcast sometimes the same
information in many ways in order for it to reach most people that have access to either cable,
Internet or social media. Once the information has reached the people in the community it satisfies
their needfor information which can be done through surveillance, and lastly there is always a
profit in revenue or ratings. The media must satisfy its necessary audiences in order to touch base
with the Maslow s Hierarchy of Human Needs which is survival, safety, social belonging, self
esteem and self actualization.
Crime is a human conduct in violation of the criminal laws of a state, the federal government, or a
local jurisdiction that has the power to make laws (Schmalleger, 2007). Crime is primarily an
offense against human relationships and secondly violates the law, since laws are created and
written to protect safety and fairness in human relationships (Schmalleger, 2007). Another
definition of crime is any harmful act including violations of the fundamental prerequisites for well
being which can include food, shelter, clothing, medical services, challenges at work and play
(recreational) activities, and security from predatory individuals (criminals) and this is all covered

The Bush Administration considered and was influenced by liberal or realist views when handling
the international debate on Iraq. The six months before the United States invaded Iraq, it was clear
the Bush administration was going to use the UN route and allow the inspector to investigate

As indicated above, the Bush administration was proven wrong. In my opinion, the Bush

The Silence of the Lambs by Thomas Harris Essay
The Silence of the Lambs by Thomas Harris
The novel The Silence of the Lambs by Thomas Harris is said to fall under the genre of
psychological horror. The stories that fall under the genre of horror include a few essential
elements: a villain or one seen as evil to create an initial story line. The foil is the next element; a
foil is a person who tries to stop the villain from going through with the evil plan or plot. These two
elements naturally lead to conflict between the two persons or groups and then from this conflict
suspense, the last element is added. Suspense is important to keep the reader interested and to keep
the story line going. When psychology is added to a story, the definition of horror is changed

Poetry Analysis Robert Frost Essay
POETRY ANALYSIS: DESIGN Robert Frost s poem Design seemingly disputes the question
whether there is a design to life; yet, he is not able to establish an answer. Despite the comlexity of
his poem his implied message is rather simple. Frost s statement clarified human s eagerness to
finding a meaning to life and an essential background and reason to events, regardless of how small
and insignificant they might be. His work states an advice not to interpret too much into
insignificant conincidences or apportion them too much relevance. During the first stanza, the
speaker of the poem encounters a dimpled whitespider on a white heal all that has previously caught
a white moth. This seemingly coincidental situation is so distinct... Show more content on

Furthermore, he proposes two answers on how the conincidence might have happenend. He
suggests that a design of darkness, an evil power, delectated by conceiling a bad deed in the
color of goodness, is to be held responsible. Yet, a spider killing an insect is a fairly common
sight and in no way spectacular. This would imply, that the designer, God, or whatever you
might want to call it, himself, besides all the beauty on earth, also created destruction. This is a
shocking picture and differs from most peoples image of a creator which is what makes this
poem so powerful and striking. His second idea would be that there is no order and design to life
at all. If this small example of destruction was not the work of some evil force, then so his
argumentation there can be no God or goodness leading the small things on earth. Consequently,
if small things on earth are not governed by a good force, the possibility of no god or no design
at all is given. But does this form of reasoning not seem a little far fetched, almost satiric? Even
though Robert Frost is known for agnostic poetry, this poem obviously focuses on humanity. It is a
parody of humans everlasting curiosity and their compulsion to find a proof for a supreme being
and a reason for existence on earth. He is describing a spider killing a moth while sitting on a
flower and despite the fact that there is a perfectly plausible biological

A Controversial Painter of Post-Renaissance, Michelangelo...
Michelangelo Merisi de Caravaggio (1571 1610) is heralded as the last, and the most controversial
painter of the Italian post Renaissance. In an age when the papacy itself was self indulgent, corrupt
and immoral, Caravaggio s sexual ambivalence, his propensity for violence and his scorn for the
law made him the enfant terrible of the Italian aristocracy. Qualities that only succeeded in
furthering Caravaggios notoriety and success.
Caravaggios endeavors into art began In 1584 when he was apprenticed for four years in Milan to
the Lombard painter Simone Peterzano (1540 1596), who claimed to have studied under Titian.
Peterzano s speciality was doing frigid and cluttered pastiches of Michelangelo Caravaggio
documentary by Robert Hughes (1975) 1 of 7
After which he moved to Rome.
Caravaggio would use models from the street, hiring pimps, prostitutes and street urchins to pose as
sensuous, sometimes nude models for the Catholic Churches commissions of sacred religious icons,
dressing the New Testament figures in his paintings in the clothing of his own contemporaries,
complete with bare feet and dirt under their fingernails. This radical naturalism shocked and
delighted his patrons, who (in light of the Protestant reformation) were seeking a simpler, more
direct art that would have a maximum effect in stirring emotion and recruiting the Protestant
dissidents.

Similarities Between Rome And Greece
Ancient civilizations are perhaps one of the most fascinating topics one could research, and of
the numerous civilizations that have sprung up over the years, perhaps none are more
fascinating than that of Ancient Greece and Rome. Greece and Rome emerged from Europe, in
around the same place. They are both similar and different, and are some of the greatest
civilizations that have ever existed. Religion is one of the defining aspects of pre modern era,
and in none more evident than ancient Greece and rome. Both Greece and Rome had different
beliefs and rituals. In ancient Greece, one of their most important beliefs was that the gods
existed, they could influence human affairs, and they welcomed and responded to acts of piety
and worship (Cartwright 1). The fact that religion was a major part in their day to day lives was
also evident in their plethora of temples scattered across the southern Balkan Peninsula, some of
the most notable being the Temple of Artemis, the Erechtheion, the Temple of Zeus, and the
Parthenon. Ancient Greeks sacrificed animals and burnt offerings to appease the gods, and called
upon them in time of war. Romans were also polytheistic, adopting many of the gods of Greece
and other nearby civilizations (Wasson 1). Even though Rome adopted some of the Greek gods,
they still remained two different religions. Roman religion was far more strict than Greek religion.

United States but part Nigeria and African American. This is the first marriage of Henry but second
for Oni. No first marriageonly last two years because of her ex husband cheating. The couple is
madly in love with each other but worry about the recent fighting and sexual tension. Oni does not
want to have sex with her husband because she has recently caught him watching pornography.
Henry started watching pornography as a release of sexual starvation. Oni confused that she felt
violated when Henry tried to have sex with her during her sleep. She describes feeling like one of
those woman he watches in his videos. The purpose of choosing this particular case study was
because there was a connection of relating to Oni feelings. Initially, the assumption was made that
Oni is feeling that her faith and trust in their marriage has been broken because of Henry s
activities because of her prior experience with her ex husband cheating. Furthermore, the connection
of Henry feeling sexual starved is understandable considering his needs are not being met. Clinical

Cultural Artifacts In The Wizard Of Oz
Cultural Artifacts
My first work is the American film, The Wizard of Oz, directed by Viktor Fleming. The film was
released in 1939 and is also a musical. The screenplay was written by Noel Langley, Florence
Ryerson, and Edgar Allan Woolf. The music was written and composed by Herbert Rosson. The
film is based on the book, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, written by L. Frank Baum. It is set at the
turn of the 20th century in Kansas and then in the Land of Oz. My second work is the book, The
Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, written by the English writer, C.S. Lewis and published in
1950. It is the Scholastic edition from 1995. The book is set during World War Two in the English
country side and then then magical world of Narnia where time is different and therefore cannot be
compared to any time period of the real world.
Common Theme
The common theme I will be exploring is Good vs. Evil . The theme is expressed in The Wizard of
Oz throughout the movie through the use of the antagonist, the Wicked Witch of the West
pursuing the main character, Dorothy, for the shoes she wears (Fleming LeRoy, 1939). The
Wicked Witch wants the shoes for herself because they hold great power, but also because they
belonged to her sister, The Wicked Witch of the East (Fleming LeRoy, 1939). However, Glinda
The Good Witch of the North, gifts them to Dorothy after she traveled to Oz, in her house and
through a cyclone (Fleming LeRoy, 1939). The house landed on the Wicked Witch of the East and

Lessons from The Maltese Falcon by Dashiell Hammett Essay
The Maltese Falcon is a novel written by Dashiell Hammett in 1929. It was originally published
by Alfred A. Knopf, Inc., New York, in 1930. Readers and critics see this book as one of the best
detective novels ever written, but they also see it as a great piece of literature. With 217 pages, it
is an easy read but is a stimulating story.
The main character of this book is a private investigator named Sam Spade. The story revolves
around him being lied to and interrogated constantly by people who are hiring him to find the
statue called The Maltese Falcon. It was believed to have priceless jewels and other forms of
wealth within the inside of the ordinary statue. The conflict shows up after several different events
mentioned in the story ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She makes up an entire story just so she can track down another person, Floyd Thursby, who is
also looking for the bird (The Maltese Falcon). So Spades partner, Miles Archer, takes the
responsibility of tailing Thursby. Unfortunately, Thursby and Archer are both later found dead.
So the police soon start questioning Spade on suspicion he had something to do with it and at
the same time Spade is questioning Miss Wonderly, whose real name is actually Brigid O
Shaughnessy. After he gets what he hopes is the total truth, another man named Joel Cairo comes
out and asks Spade to find the bird for $10,000 and after that an even more serious man named
Casper Gutman offers Spade more than everyone else to get the bird. Spade is the only one that
knows where it is and is still being questioned by the police. When the morning finally comes
when Spades secretary picks up the falcon from the train station Gutman above all is excited. He
starts scratching away at the enamel which should have gold underneath but he soon enough
realizes that there is nothing but lead underneath it. Disappointed he offers everyone to go out and
get it back from the Russian Constantinople who switched the real one. Cairo accepts the offer and
they leave. Immediately Spade phones the police and gives them all the names of the murderers
and everyone involved. They catch them all and Spade then turns in Brigid even though they had
become so close.

Pursuing A Life At College
At the average age of eighteen, every student must decide what their future will entail. Some
students will choose to skip college to dive into ministry, military training, or work. Many students,
however, do decide to pursue a life at college. In the United States alone, there are approximately
5,300 different colleges/universities from which a studentcan choose. This substantial number of
colleges often leaves a student overwhelmed, confused, and stressed over finding their perfect
college. As I have researched, I have narrowed my perfect college choices down to two very
different options, Baylor Universityand Lee University. Baylor University was founded in 1844 by
Reverend William Milton Tryon and District Judge R.E.B. Baylor in... Show more content on

564 of these students are international (3%). This is significantly larger than Lee University
who has 4,575 with 251 international students (5%). Not only is there a drastic size difference,
but also a drastic cost difference. Baylor charges a total of $56,776 a year. This large total can be
divided up into six categories: tuition $36,360, various fees $4,038, room and board $11,140,
books and supplies $1,276, transportation $1,174, and personal expenses $2,788. Lee is 48%
cheaper coming in at a total of $27,500. This cost can be divided into four categories: tuition
$14,280, room and board $7,520, books and supplies $1,200, and personal expenses $4,500.
Accompanying the 16,787 students at Baylor are 119 majors and 77 minors. Lee, on the other
hand, has 105 majors and 52 minors. Although both universities have similar options, Baylor has
more of the basic college majors and minors. Lee, however, has more specialized courses. For
example, Lee offers four different options for Discipleship Ministry major. Both Baylor and Lee
are Christian universities who practice pursuing after Christ in their college activities. Lee has
chapel twice a week (Tuesdays and Thursdays) with students being required to attend 70% of the
chapels per a semester. Most of Lee s chapels are simply worship led by both students and well
known artists, but they do often have speakers as well. Baylor has chapel twice a week (Mondays
and Wednesdays) and require students to attend

  • 2. How Subliminal Messaging Affects Consumer Behavior How Subliminal Messaging Affects Consumer Behavior The subject of subliminal messaging in relation to consumer behavior presents an interesting dichotomy between the scientific community and the general public. The purpose of this paper is to discover what, if any, effect subliminal messaging has on consumer behavior, as well as shed light on the differing positions regarding this controversial subject, and provide a brief historical background on the material. Before the topic of subliminal messaging can be addressed, one must first understand subliminal perception. Subliminal perception is defined as the processing of stimuli presented below the level of the consumer s awareness. (Solomon, p.629) Subliminal messaging is ... The statements made by Keys in concert with the findings of Vicary would appear to paint a very clear picture of subversive forces at work compelling the consumer to make purchasing decisions that are driven by inexplicable urges outside of their conscious realm. The scientific facts, however, indicate that much of the positions of Keys and Vicary are, at best, hyperbole. The president of the Psychological Corporation, Dr. Henry Link challenged Vicary to reproduce his findings in another study, but Vicary was not able to do this. (Adams) Since Vicary made his claims about projected messages, his claims have failed to stand up to scientific scrutiny. Research has shown that strong stimuli yields strong response, and the weaker stimuli produce the weakest responses. (Rogers, p. 15) Furthermore, Vicary admitted in 1962 interview with Advertiser Age magazine that the entire program had been nothing more than a gimmick. (Danzig) It is estimated that Vicary had made millions of dollars from working as a consultant during his В‘research. (Rogers, p. 15) Dr. Key s positions were not above critical review from his peers as well. Jack Haberstroh took Key s hypothesis to task in his book Ice Cube Sex when he states, Subliminal advertising does not affect consumer buying behavior, advertising recall, ... I always wondered how cultures around the world all developed the concept and belief of a higher being, even prior to contact. It is as if a larger force had touched every inch of this earth, blessing man with the gift of faith. With that in mind, when examining different religions, I like to think of it as different languages. (Montgomery) Montgomery states that Buddha and Jesus are similar in the fact that each model possessed special characteristics that drew people to their word and message found within the religions. Of course, it is important to realize the differences even amongst the messages of Buddhism and Christianity. Buddhism bases their moral codes from the concept of karma. Karma grasps upon the concept that good actions lead to good effects, while bad actions produce the opposite (Molloy 136). • 11. Lonesome Dove Analysis Lonesome Dove is a story in the western genre written by Larry McMurty. The book was published in 1985 and was the п¬Ѓrst book of a tetralogy, but third in chronology. The book is about a strenuous cattle drive from Texas to Montana. Lonesome Dove was a wholesome and interesting book that engages your curiosity from the beginning to the end. In the beginning of the story they are in a small south Texas town called lonesome Dove, where the two main characters Augustus McCrae and Woodrow Call had settled down and started a livery stable after being famous Texas rangers. The journey starts off after Jake Spoon rides into town talking about Montana and the untapped potential. That is what sets them off on their journey driving cattle from Texas to Montana. As their journey began they had many dilemmas, but I would say their п¬Ѓrst dilemma was the death of Sean O Brien a young Irish man found with his brother Allen O Brien when they collected the cattle for the drive. That part of the story was the п¬Ѓrst major event of the story driving fear in many of the crew. As the drive went north, so did Jake spoon, who brought along a woman by the name of Lorena Wood. Lorena is a major character in the story as she is a love interest of both Augustus McCrae, Jake Spoon ,and desired by many. The story had an interesting offshoot that involved a sheriff from fort smith, Arkansas by the name of July Johnson. After a poor experience at Mount Holyoke Female Seminary, where she was regarded as a no hope, her writing career took off in full swing. Although her family was more conservative, regular churchgoers, and socially prominent town figures, Dickinson preferred a socially reserved lifestyle that renounced the traditional values of her day (Baym, 1189 93). The iconoclastic spirit pervasive in Emily Dickinsons poetry reflects her conflict with the traditions of New England society. She, growing up in a religious family, determined that religion was not the pathway for her and she would instead be the only influence on her life (Emily, no pag.). To the rest of New England, God was loving, caring, and a Father; however, her poetry reveals that to her, He was a mystical figure in the sky who oscillated back and forth from loving to harsh. Dickinson s poetry often mocks the Bible, God, prayer, and church attendance. Her poetry s is commonly irreverent, calling the Bible an antique Volume Written by faded Men At the suggestion of Holy Spectres (F1577). Dickinson repeatedly mocks God calling Him Burglar! Banker! and sarcastically Father! (F39). In a short, three lined poem, Dickinson jeers at the traditional, Christian phrase In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost Amen. Dickinson instead worships nature In the name of the Bee And of the Butterfly And of the Breeze Amen! (F23). Although subtle, it reveals that she knows enough about religious ways to parody it in a satirical fashion. Dickinson again belittles the effectiveness and importance of prayer. Of Course I prayed And did God Care? He cared as much as on the Air A Bird had stamped her foot And cried Give Me (F581). To remain true to herself, Dickinson belittled the importance of faithful church attendance ( Emily, no pag.). Some keep the Sabbath going to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is a predominant attribute surrounding a government, as without it, no wrong can be solved or ailment corrected. Due to the availability and mercurial nature of a constitutional democratic republic, even massive alterations such as granting suffrage to a group of citizens is possible. After Boo saves her and Jem s life, Scout realizes her and Maycomb s wrongs for judging Boo before they met him, telling Atticus, When [we] finally saw him, why he hadn t done any of those things . . . Atticus, he was real nice . . . (376). When Scout is aware that she had never met Boo before she judged him, she recognizes her wrong, and that he hadn t done any of those things that she believed from the rumors. She understands that the ruthless lies they told harmed Boo, since he is afraid to go outside his home with the reputation Maycomb gave him. Even though Boo is a compassionate and loving man, Maycomb discriminates him based on rumors until he stays inside so as not to be treated unfairly for crimes he has not ... • 20. Analisis of Human Exposure to Chloroform in a Hot Tub Abstract Hot tubs are very popular across America due to their relaxation as well as health benefits. Hot tubs have been attributed health benefits ranging from relief of muscle and joint pain, to help in treatment of HIV and other viral infections. Because of this, many people own hot tubs and many more go to health spas where they can use them. On the other hand, hot tubs are not that easy to maintain. A consistent disinfectant level must be maintained in order to inhibit the growth of bacteria which could cause infections to the people who use them. The disinfectant of choice for most hot tubs is chlorine, mainly because of its effectiveness, persistence in the water, and the familiarity with its properties. Since the 70 s,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The problem with chlorine is that it reacts with organic matter in water to form chloroform, a known carcinogen. The efficiency of chlorines disinfection capabilities depends on the free chlorine in the water. Free chlorine refers to the amount of chlorine in the water after the demand for chlorine in the water has been satisfied. In other words, the free chlorine is the one that s available to disinfect or kill microorganisms. Since the free chlorine in hot tub water is recommended to be around 3 5 ppm, this means that there will be a higher concentration of chloroform in the tub water than in for example tap water that has free chlorine level of only 1 2ppm when leaving the treatment plant. In addition the high temperature of the water combined with the aeration by the jet bubbles will enhance the 2 volatilization of the chloroform into the air and this increases the exposure due to inhalation. The high temperature of water will also increase dermal absorption of chloroform. Of special interest, are wooden hot tubs. In this case, there is a constant source of organic matter(wood) for the chlorine to react with, and therefore increased concentrations of chloroform. This study will try to prove the hypothesis that using hot tubs, results in elevated exposures to chloroform due to various factors that enhance ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The authors of the three texts all share a similar attitude towards the consequences of work, which is that it can be detrimental to one s physical and mental wellbeing. Author of text One The Secretary Chant, Marge Piercy describes the stressful life of a secretary and how the accumulation of stressful events leads to the secretary feeling mechanical and dehumanised. Piercy implies that, with overwork, people can begin to lose a sense of who they are. In this instance, the Secretary believes she is no longer a human, but instead a part of the office as her voice has been lost in the quantity of work that must be done. Similarly, Steven Poole, who wrote text... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is further enhanced by the use of emotive language and a detached and melancholy tone. The use of the verb, hang, and the noun, chains, acts as a possible allusion to other historical events of oppression such as slavery. Such vocabulary choices emphasise the way in which the secretary feels trapped and objectified in her own work environment. The secretary feels trapped because of the way that she has been objectified, which suggests that she is only valued for her ability to work like other office equipment, evident in line 1 where she states, my hips are a desk. The mechanical way that the secretary is employed establishes how she no longer feels as though she is a human. Instead, she is simply part of the office and the repetitive onomatopoeic, buzz, and, clicks, that define workplace environments. This is supported by line 21, where the persona states, file me under W because I wonce was a woman. In a similar way, text 2 considers the damaging effect of work through a satirical narrative voice. This is achieved by exploring how humans are essentially slaves of the digital world. When humans go on holiday; an event that epitomises quite the opposite of work, they are still plagued by, the fear that catching up on a fortnight s email will be epically disgusting labour. Whilst the prospect of reading one s emails is not the crux of the article, it acts as a humours anecdote that reminds readers of the dangers of letting the digital world control them. • 25. Kran By Heart Analysis The HBO Documentary, Koran by Heart, directed by Greg Barker, further reiterates the importance of the Quran on the daily lives of Muslims. Though in the past, we have learned that the Quran is the holy text of Islam, making stark comparisons to the holy texts of other Monotheistic religions such as the Bible for the Christians and the Torah for the Jews, but in retrospect, the Quran delves into other matters beyond just religion. Dr. Salem Abdel Galil, Deputy Minister of Egypt s Ministry of Religious Affairs, says that the Koran for Muslims is not just a book of worship, but it serves as a guide for life. In other words, the Quran is not just a compilation of religious accounts; rather it holds information to further develop a follower s interpersonal and communicative skills along with guidance on how to live a tolerant and peaceful life with others. Another takeaway from this film, and what I believe to be one of the central messages that director Greg Barker is trying to convey, is that the Quran is the ultimate source of unification for Muslims. This is apparent throughout the documentary, which initially starts with the description of the annual Quran reciting competition held in Cairo, Egypt. This competition brings together approximately 110 reciters, of all ages and both genders, from a total of 70 different countries. The majority of the participants are not native Arabic speakers, the language of the Quran, but yet they have all memorized the Quran in Arabic. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Volume 1 of the revised edition of the letters consists of Patrick Query describing how T.S. Eliot felt so much passion for culture and how it must improve (Letters, Volume 1). In the volume, the writer states Eliot started a movement to modernize literature all on his own. While society generally acted apathetically towards life, Eliot demonstrated an intense passion for making the world a better place, and he strove for a culture in which people actually inserted energy and passion into life (Poetry Foundation). Also, in John Worthen s biography of T.S. Eliot, Worthen expresses a belief Eliot focused the entire masterpiece of Four Quartets on illustrating to his audience the need for people to focus more on the beauty of life, despite painful times. Poetry Analysis Robert Frost Essay POETRY ANALYSIS: DESIGN Robert Frost s poem Design seemingly disputes the question whether there is a design to life; yet, he is not able to establish an answer. Despite the comlexity of his poem his implied message is rather simple. Frost s statement clarified human s eagerness to finding a meaning to life and an essential background and reason to events, regardless of how small and insignificant they might be. His work states an advice not to interpret too much into insignificant conincidences or apportion them too much relevance. During the first stanza, the speaker of the poem encounters a dimpled whitespider on a white heal all that has previously caught a white moth. This seemingly coincidental situation is so distinct... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, he proposes two answers on how the conincidence might have happenend. He suggests that a design of darkness, an evil power, delectated by conceiling a bad deed in the color of goodness, is to be held responsible. Yet, a spider killing an insect is a fairly common sight and in no way spectacular. This would imply, that the designer, God, or whatever you might want to call it, himself, besides all the beauty on earth, also created destruction. This is a shocking picture and differs from most peoples image of a creator which is what makes this poem so powerful and striking. His second idea would be that there is no order and design to life at all. If this small example of destruction was not the work of some evil force, then so his argumentation there can be no God or goodness leading the small things on earth. Consequently, if small things on earth are not governed by a good force, the possibility of no god or no design at all is given. But does this form of reasoning not seem a little far fetched, almost satiric? Even though Robert Frost is known for agnostic poetry, this poem obviously focuses on humanity. Michelangelo Merisi de Caravaggio (1571 1610) is heralded as the last, and the most controversial painter of the Italian post Renaissance. In an age when the papacy itself was self indulgent, corrupt and immoral, Caravaggio s sexual ambivalence, his propensity for violence and his scorn for the law made him the enfant terrible of the Italian aristocracy. Qualities that only succeeded in furthering Caravaggios notoriety and success. Caravaggios endeavors into art began In 1584 when he was apprenticed for four years in Milan to the Lombard painter Simone Peterzano (1540 1596), who claimed to have studied under Titian. Peterzano s speciality was doing frigid and cluttered pastiches of Michelangelo Caravaggio documentary by Robert Hughes (1975) 1 of 7 After which he moved to Rome. Caravaggio would use models from the street, hiring pimps, prostitutes and street urchins to pose as sensuous, sometimes nude models for the Catholic Churches commissions of sacred religious icons, dressing the New Testament figures in his paintings in the clothing of his own contemporaries, complete with bare feet and dirt under their fingernails. This radical naturalism shocked and delighted his patrons, who (in light of the Protestant reformation) were seeking a simpler, more direct art that would have a maximum effect in stirring emotion and recruiting the Protestant dissidents.
