How Did Berners Lee Changed The World
Sir Tim Berners Lee is an British physicist, who is also known for his invention that changed the
history of computers and our life: The World Wide Web. Until 1990, people were using Internet
only for e mail because information on the Internet was spread and there was not a way to access it
all.All that changed with the invention of the World Wide Web
. The whole idea of World Wide Web
was simple thought on Berners Lee s mind that it would be great idea for researchers to be able
find the documents they needed from any computer in the world. In 1980, he made his first attempt

Analysis Of John Steinbeck s The Grapes Of Wrath
John Steinbeck was born in 1902 in Salinas, California. After he graduated high school, he
attended Stanford University, but never graduated. In 1925 Steinbeck went to New York to
establish himself as a free lance writer for a little while, but it didn t work out so he went back
to California. He published a few short stories and novels for a while. Then in 1935 he was
discovered with Tortilla Flat, a series of humorous stories. Steinbeck s novels are based on
economic problems of labor. After the humorous Tortilla Flat, Steinbeck decided to write a more
serious novel, In Dubious Battle, in 1936. It deals with the strikes of the migratory fruit pickers
on California plantations. Then in 1937 Of Mice and Men was published. Later, The Long Valley,
was published in 1938. In 1939 The Grapes of Wrath was published, the story of Oklahoma tenant
farmers who couldn t earn enough money for a living, so they moved to California and became
migratory workers. After a while he wrote East of Eden in 1952, The Winter of Our Discontent in
1961, and Travels with Charley in 1962. Steinbeck wrote those three stories while traveling in a
three month tour through 40 American states. During this tour, he died in New York City in 1968.

The Effects Of Muscular Dysmorphia On Adolescents
Muscular Dysmorphia in Adolescents Body image disorders which can be very serious severe
conditions are often considered to mostly affect women, men, however can also suffer from
Body image issues. In men, a body image disorder typically presents itself as Muscular
Dysmorphia. Men who are suffering from Muscular Dysmorphia often resort to hazardous ways
to gain more muscle, such as over exercising unhealthy amounts and steroids. Treatment for
Muscular Dysmorphia frequently includes prescription anti depressants. While effective,
prescription drugs create a dilemma for a high school guidance counselor who may face ethical
barriers in recommending a potentially harmful medication to minors. Cognitive Behavioral
Therapy (or CBT), has shown promise as an effective non pharmaceutical treatment for body
image disorders, and has been used in the school setting for years. Case Review In Case #5, a
guidance counselor in an urban school is concerned some of the boys may be having a body
image issue. They work out excessively, take expensive supplements and are overly concerned
with nutrition. Most importantly, the muscle building regimen these boys are following seem to
be interfering with their both school and personal lives. The counselor is worried for the boys
mental well being as well as their physical health. Especially with one boy in particular who seems
to be engaging in illegal use of anabolic steroids. Muscle Dysmorphia is a type of Body
Dysmorphic Disorder that is

Persuasive Essay On Gun Violence
There has been a rise in gun violence in the United States for the past few years killing several
victims that gotten caught in cross fire, mass shootings, and in crime. In 2012, there were over a
dozen mass shooting incidents with two standing out as especially tragic. One of the shootings
ended with 12 people dead and 58 others harmed and only tis amount because the shooter gunwas
jammed. The second mass shooting involved a man not only killing his mom but also
elementary school children and some of the people working there, then later himself. With an
increase of innocent people deaths due to guns there has not been a change or an increase in
gun laws to lowers the death rates. In the State of Texas, it s citizens at the age 18 can walk in a
store and buy a rifle without a license or any background checks. They must be at least 21 years
of age to purchase a gun that cannot be seen such as a handgun. The other requirements are to be
a resident of that state, have an identification card, a completion of a handgun proficiency test by
a qualified instructor. A person is not allowed to have a weapon with a felony but can have a
ticket and/or misdemeanor. After a purchase of a gun, that person must keep it concealed and has
a concealed license to carry it around on them but the clip must be out of the gun when driving in
a car. Before going in any stores there will be a sign that say no guns allowed meaning the carrier

Indi India And India
1. The focal point of this paper is to inform the reader about the country of India. Encompassed in
the two pages are two cultural domains about India and how India relates to the United States. The
first cultural domain discussed is a brief summary of the history of India in paragraph two.
Immediately following the history of India, paragraph three contains the economics and most
prominent resources in India. The fourth paragraph explains India s relation to the United States.
2. For more than 300 years, India known as the Mughal Dynasty, was led by many different
emperors. It was not until the Europeans came around in the 1600s that profitable companies like
the East India Trading Company changed how India conducted business. By the mid 1700s, the
East India Trading Company became extremely powerful and would eventually take control of
India s economic system. In 1857, the Britain conquered the Mughal and French armies and took
control of India.1 In the beginning of the transition, the British employed a more laissez faire
approach of tactfulness by illustrating to the Mughal s they did not intend to overrule their ways
of life. Although the adversities of transferring to the Western norms by Indian populous were of
great proportion, the British ensured cohesiveness by absorbing practices that were already in
place in India. The practices the British melded their Western ideas with were of insignificant
divisional political and economic areas. However, this type of

Notes On The Generation Effect
The Generation Effect
Christopher J Gonzaba
Texas A M University
Abstract
Generation effect tests whether people remember information better when they participate and
generate the word rather than just reading them. In our study we used a lexical decision task to test
the spreading activation. Twelve undergraduate students from Texas A M participated. Some of the
trails consisted of two related words and some consisted of two unrelated words. Two main effects
were used; between subjects and within subjects. Task type represented by between subjects
showed whether those who generated words generated information better than non generated words.
The within subjects suggested whether rule type affect generated words and ... Show more content

Memory storage implies putting that information into either short term or long term memory.
Sensory memory is another type of memory but since it is less than one second memory storage
has no use. Short term and long term memory decide whether we are able to retrieve the
information or not (Mastin, 2010).
Sensory and short term memory is less than one minute of storage and because of that they have
no use for explicit and implicit memory. Both are found and used to breakdown long term memory.
Explicit memory is the use of conscious thinking for the use of recall of important facts or events.
Implicit memory is the opposite; it is the use of unconscious thinking of information and reaction.
For example, texting, walking, or writing, on does not simply stop to think how to preform those
actions (McLeod, 2007).
To further breakdown explicit and implicit memory we use declarative and procedural memory.
Declarative memory corresponds with explicit memory because it engages in conscious thinking to
recall factual information. Procedural memory corresponds with implicit memory because it is the
basic repetition of facts that do not take much into consideration. Declarative memory is broken
down in episodic and semantic memory. Episodic memory helps the retrieval of facts, events, or
experiences in ones life. Semantic memory recollects general facts and concepts that one can
typically think of off the top of their head (Mastin, 2010). Memory plays a

The Media and Its Influence on Culture Today
The Media and It s influence on Culture today
Media Violence is an extremely controversial topic that reoccurs in the everyday life of the
modern human. In our modern world, everyone is affected by media violence. The media has the
ability to change your opinion on something by it s persuasive and corrupted ways to present
information. People of all ages can be affected in this due to the many ways to receive modern day
media. We can see it in major news programs, TV shows, movies, video games, and music.
The media is something that can t be taken for granted. It s all around us, everywhere we go it
faces us each and everyday. It affects people all over the world, friends, family, and even ourselves.

Kids nowadays know more about the Internet than you could imagine.
Parents should learn to take the time to monitor what their kids go on, take the time to learn
what is appropriate and what is not. Learn how to avoid seeing or sharing violent messages and
images. Knowledge is they key to power. You should always know what s going on in someone
s life, especially if it involves them or anybody else . (Youth Engage 2014) Many parents have no
idea what goes on when their kids go upstairs or go into a different room. Children could be getting
violated or harassed and no one would ever know. So before it happens, think about how much
freedom children should have online.
If you think this stuff doesn t happen it does. Many people think media violence isn t as serious as it
actually is, but in reality this sort of stuff happens all the time. Major news corporations are
widely known for their corrupt stories of major headlines. One major case known by the whole
country is the Trayvon Martin shooting. Martin was a 17 year old African American high school
student who was stopped by neighborhood watch captain George Zimmerman. Zimmerman
claimed he shot and killed Martin out of self defense. The media took this story and exploded it
into a nationwide topic. They portrayed Trayvon as a young innocent man who looked to do no
wrong doing. They only displayed pictures of Trayvon when he looked young and innocent. They

Sir Gawain And The Green Knight
Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, The Wife of Bath s Prologue and Tale present dynamic views
of the art of love in medieval times. In Sir Gawain, the love between Sir Gawain and Lady
Bertilak at first appears to be genuine; however, we learn that both characters were using each
other guided by ulterior motives. Lady Bertilak jabs at Gawain s masculinity in order to achieve
her goal. The Wife of Bath s Prologue questions the meaning of lovewhile the narrator discusses
her own experience to portray the relationship between husband and wife. She also displays
different views of the art of love that contrast with each other; the Tale as well poses the question
of whether love or marriagebetween two people can ever be equal.
In the poem, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, the encounters between Sir Gawain and Lady
Bertilak depict ways in which the art of love can involve trickery. In Sir Gawain s initial
interaction with Lady Bertilak and the old lady, who is later exposed as Morgan le Faye, he
greets them with respect, [he] quickly offers to serve them unswervingly should they say the
word. (SG, ls. 975 76). Here he shows his troth, or loyalty to the women to uphold his chivalric
values, establishing a hierarchy of power. Lady Bertilak and Morgan le Faye, at the top of the
hierarchy, want to exploit Sir Gawain in order to carry out their master plan of humiliating him and
the Arthurian court. When the Lady enters Sir Gawain s bedroom the next morning, she uses her

The Theory Of Egoism And Altruism
In this paper I will argue that selecting only one form of egoism is not enough to explain human
motives and that it takes a mix of several theories to explain it, specifically a mix of ethical egoism
and altruism, with the side note that intent is not important in this situation. The mix is important,
as any one theory seemingly fails to encapsulate the scope of human interactions. Pure ethical
egoism, the idea that each person should only try to help themselves, makes people out to be too
greedy and seemingly unwilling to help anyone at any point in their lives. Pure altruism, the idea
that people should use their abilities and advantages to exclusively help others, makes people too
willing to sacrifice what they have for someone else. If people were completely altruistic nothing
would ever be accomplished and eventually those advantages would become erased as people stop
working to better themselves. I also believe that the intent of the action is not important so the
moralityof the action should be directly tied to the outcome, not the thought process of the person
doing the action. All of these ideas will be explained in more detail later in the paper. This paper
will look at each of these three factors individually, show why they are insufficient for explaining
human motives on their own and then explain how they can all work in conjunction to better
explain human motives. This paper will then go on to show how someone might disagree with this
thesis by providing some

Edward IV s Reign and Success Essay
Edward IV s Reign and Success Edward s reign was mainly stable and successful. He was the
first king to die financially solvent in over 200 years due mainly to his careful avoidance of
major foreign wars and by the end of his reign there was evident recovery of prosperity in the
southern counties. However, Edward died too early to ensure that his heir would succeed him
unchallenged. He had not created a collective commitment to the future of his dynasty that would
make his heir strong enough to survive a minority reign. Although this was his main failure, he did
not wholly succeed in all other actions through his reign. Edward s foreign policies appear to be
eminently successful. The treaty... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He dictated his council and rarely was opposed even by Parliament. His financial dependence on
Parliament was not too great; his only depended on them with expenditure. He had two steady
sources of revenue which were customs duties and royal estates. The introduction of the Land
revenue led a greater prominence of the chamber. His royal household now collected the taxes in
place of the Exchequer. He was seen as a financially capable businessman and was therefore able
to borrow loans easily from merchants in London. Although Edward was mainly successful with
his financial policies and his treatment of the nobility, he was in fact too reliant on the Duke of
Gloucester and Northumberland. This led to them becoming over mighty nobles, giving them the
opportunity to eventually depose Edward s heir from the throne. Although it was not obvious at
the time, this was a critical failure as it meant an undisputed succession was not ensured. Edward s
commercial policy was mainly successful. He promoted the development of the English merchant
marine, a new market for English trade and commerce. His treaty with Burgundy created a bigger
British export trade. The export of cloth doubled and the problem of piracy decreased. Also, the
treaty of Utrecht increased Hansiatic trade. Edward s only notable failure where trade was
concerned was his tendency to

Deviations In The Chrysalids
John Wyndham s novel The Chrysalids shows the consequences of going against the beliefs of
society through David who is isolated from society due to his deviant ability. To begin with,
being confronted by town officials, David struggles to fit in with the people of Waknuk as he
faced constant deprivation due to his telepathic abilities. As John writes, To be any kind of deviant
is to be hurt always (Wyndham 167). As stated in the above quote, being a deviant and having
telepathic abilities has many negative effects such as being isolated from your family and sent to
the fringes. The society shown in The Chrysalidshave very strong policies on deviations or

Comparing The Landlady And The Monkey s Paw
Many Stories show various literary elements in their text to add more detail to and context to the
plot. The Landlady and The Monkey s Paw is a perfect example that displays these elements. In
The Landlady , A businessman named Billy Weaver looks for a place to stay. He comes across a
bed and breakfast. Little does he know the contents inside that building are unthinkable. The story
The Monkey s Paw has just as much suspense. A family, the Whites, are visited by Sergeant Major
Morris. They talk about a preserved monkey paw that holds magic. The son, Herbert, is doubtful
but the parents believe that the paw may have some potential. They are warned that the paw will
have consequences along with the wishes granted. In The Landlady and The Monkey s Paw the
author uses the characterization of unusualness and sarcasm, foreshadowing death and evil
consequences, irony dramatically and verbally, the tone of darkness and deviousness, and an
unsettling and anxious mood to add details to the story.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

had time to time to take his finger from the bell button the door swung open and a woman was

not normal. In addition, Herbert in The Monkey s Paw is doubtful and sarcastic about the paw s
magic being real. Hebert comments, Well I don t see the money and I bet I never will. This means
Herbert is a pessimistic and doubtful kind of character. Including characterization, these two stories

Alerts are set by the user within the command prompt when initiating a rule set. There are five

There are several advantages of using the existing rule sets already created on the Snort web site.
One advantage of using the existing rules is that they have been created to work effectively against
the common vulnerabilities. Creating your own rule sets require a working knowledge of Snort and
having the outcome of the created rule may not yield the desired effect that the administrator is

6. Describe (in plain English) at least one type of rule set you would want to add to a high level
security network and why?
A rule set that I would add to a high level network would be an app detect rule. With this rule the
traffic that occurs in various applications that deal with the network would be controlled. This is
especially important because if an application within the network is compromised, it could be
utilized to gain access to the network.
7. If a person with malicious intent were to get into your network and have read/write access to
your IDS log or rule set how could they use that information to their advantage?
If someone with malicious intent was to gain read/write access to your IDS log or rule set, they
could use that information to determine how your IDS was configured. Especially if detailed

Mr. Still was unusual in that he kept careful, written records of those he assisted, including short
biographies on some, which he published in 1872. Mr. Still often employed railroad metaphors in
his writing. The following example illustrates the way messages were encoded so that only those
active in the railroad would fully understand their meaning, even if intercepted by outsiders:
I have sent via a two o clock four large and two small hams, which indicated that four adults and
two children were being sent by train from Harrisburg to Philadelphia. (Wikipedia, Underground
Railroad)
The use of the word via was to indicate that they were not sent on a regular locomotive, but via
Reading, PA. In this case the authorities went to the train station in Philadelphia with the hopes of
intercepting the fugitives, allowing Still s agent to meet them in Reading and escort them to safety.
Some preachers, friends of the cause, were said to have encoded their sermons to inform select
parishioners of the arrival and departure of fugitives over the course of the coming week. Some
wore a specific colored handkerchief in their pocket to indicate a meeting to be held or impending
arrival of fugitives. As a matter of necessity, stationmasters were accustomed to knocks on their
doors or windows at odd hours of the night. The response to the question of Who s there? was

The U.S. Soccer or Football
INTRO
In the U.S soccer or football hasn t caught on quite just yet. Even though the American people have
had recent success like in the 2002 World Cup and the 2009 Confederations Cup. Though extremely
popular in European countries, soccer took a long time to gain momentum in the United States
because Americans put more money and attention into other sports like baseball, football, and
basketball. Soccer eventually became popular in the 1970s, but then lost popularity again when the
National League went bankrupt.

Snopes In Barn Burning
Family is the core of society. It is within this nurturing environment that hopes and dreams are
constructed and allowed to grow. Children learn the basic moral values and the socially acceptable
codes of conduct necessary for later life, but they can also absorb unacceptable behaviors by
observing those around them. In Barn Burning, William Faulknerchronicles the life of Abner
Snopes, and the less than perfect relationship he has with his relatives and son, Sartoris. Snopes is
a very bitter and discontented man, one who is envious of his rich land owning neighbors. As a
rather violent man, he has an insatiable desire to control people, and instill fear in their hearts.
Despite his shortcomings, the theme of family loyalty is brought into perspective by Snopes. He
values his familial bonds above all else, even the law. Snopes believes that every family should
stand up for each other, no matter the situation or differences they may have. Unfortunately for his
family (especially his son), Snopes often fails to live up to this ideal. After the court proceedings,
Sartoris is stuck by individuals within the crowd, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

clauses. Barn Burning is no exception to the collection of his works. In this book, many of the
sentences do not actually end in a conclusive idea; it is common to find sentences that end with a
different idea than what was assumed at the beginning of the statement. An example of this is
shown in the sentence: The wagon went on, the store with its quiet crowd of grimly watching men
dropped behind; a curve in the road hid it. (333) Faulkner begins describing how the Snopes family
was leaving the store, but he does not end the sentence expectedly, as he instead states how the
corner hid their wagon from the view of the men watching

Transformers Art Reflection Paper
As children, our minds are filled with wonder and imagination, allowing pieces of art such as
books, cartoons, or movies to influence us starting at a very young age. It was no different for
myself as I was growing up as many pieces of art contributed to how I thought about things; none
more so than the TransformersUniverse. Since my mother was a teacher at a school in
Anchorage, I grew up spending more time with my father and his influence of entertainment up
until I was six years old. At the age of four, I walked into the family entertainment room and there
my dad was watching the original Transformers cartoon released in 1984. When my dad saw me,
he pulled me into his lap and we watched it together. I fell in love with the fun loving, but
powerful robots running across the screen. My father and I bonded over the intricate storyline,
hilarious moments, and later the deep discussions we had regarding the show. Ever since that day,
Transformers has always had a special place in my heart and mind. Around fourth grade, I started
watching different series of Transformers as well as the original cartoon. I began learning the
hidden morals taught in each of the different series. In the original Transformers, the two part

gave the land its name: Costa Rica.
While in Puerto Viejo, there is a superb little Costa Rica beach hotel, La Perla Negra. Strongly
recommended. No matter what your fancy, whether fishing, eco tourism, medical care mixed
with a great holiday, there is always a great Costa Rica vacation waiting for you.Posted in Airline

What Are The Effects Of Discrimination In World War 1
Intro: The test of whether or not you can hold a job should not be in the arrangement of your
chromosomes ― Bella Abzug. Throughout history, women have been belittled and undervalued
by male counterparts (and even themselves), seemingly due to the fact that they have different
DNA. Similarly, African Americans have been subject to discrimination for the same reasons.
This paper will not only portray the thesis World War 1 brought social changes that made many
societies view women in an entirely different way but it will also bring together racism and sexism
by illustrating the things that black women had to go through and the conditions they lived in
during the time of the war. Paragraph 1: Before the war, women (of all classes... Show more content

Preceding 1914 (the official start of the war), many women who took up jobs were single and
they almost always got paid considerably less than men (Braybon 150). It was accepted and
expected that jobs that required any discipline or training whatsoever were inherently jobs for
men (Braybon 150). This left women to do many domestic jobs, such as: cooking, washing,
ironing and other jobs one would associate with a housewife ( Home Front ). One of the most
common (real) jobs for women before the war was being a school teacher, because it was not
physical and the only necessary prerequisites was good education. By 1911, there was an
estimated 187,000 teachers in Britain ( Home Front ). Many women of a middle class social
standing viewed their own jobs as temporary , as they were urged to stop working when marriage
was an option (Braybon 150). It was common that lower class women had to constantly jump in
and out of work according to their volatile financial needs; they were very underestimated and
undervalued by bosses from work industries (Braybon 151). On the other hand, middle class
(white) women rarely worked after they got married

Gatorade s Short Independent Clause
Compared to Rovell, Mattern chose to use very basic sentence structures that would be easy for
a juvenile level reader to understand. Mattern often uses short independent clauses that include a

use of dependent clauses creating a complex sentence. Mattern However, in doing so she missed

Realistic Features Of Geoffrey Chaucer
Geoffrey Chaucer
Chaucer, one of the greatest English poets of all times, was born in London around the year
1340 and died in 1400. He came from a wealthy merchant London family. Thanks to his education
and his father s court connections he became a member of Parliaments. After a marriage with a
woman named Philippa de Roet, a lady of high rank in waiting to the Queen, Chaucer got a
diplomatic position. He was sent abroad to secret talks and official business to Italy and France.
There he learned French and Italian, as well as studied their history, literature and culture, which
influenced him later in his works. He was appointed Customs Officer at London Harbour and
served in the royal court. Not much is known about his private life, only ... Show more content on

As we know from the Prologue, the Reeve had been carpenter. As I got to know from history,
reeves and millers were as well antagonists in a real life. That is also a realistic feature of MillerВґs
tale, and feeling offended from a MillerВґs tale, Reeve makes a revenge in his tale about millers.
Here Chaucer set forth the ordinary feud between millers and reeves that happened in everyday
life. When the tale was ended, the pilgrims didn t know whether to be angry because of MillerВґs
rudeness or laugh at his immoral story. But because of ReeveВґs higher rank, they did not comment
on it. According to Lowes, the change to realism represented in the Canterbury Tales, divides his
works, for it is in progress during the whole life and career. Instead of familiar Italian, French, and
English periods, there should be only two: the theory of convention and the period of realism.

The Mayor Of Casterbridge By Michael Henchard
When the pair of Michael and Susan Henchard are reunited after years of separation, Henchard
exhibits a commitment to his redemption after he shamelessly sold her in the early years of their
marriage. He financially provides for Susan by buying her a cottage and informally courts her, as he
presumes this will rectify his past. His constituents in Casterbridge are rather nonplussed at his
sudden romantic inclination; however, the true nature of his actions is revealed only in narration
and not in action. Thomas Hardyushers in Michael Henchard as a unique subset of the Victorian
Gentleman in his 1886 novel, The Mayor of Casterbridge. The limitations and rather restrictive
standards of Victorian social classhave dominated Michael Henchard s limited individuality.
Henchard s stability and livelihood is tied exclusively to his position in Casterbridge. His raw
passion for community is unfettered by any notion of family or womanly pursuits; he is solely
concerned with his status in the hierarchy of the Victorian town. These pursuits hinder a desired
gentlemanly character and produces a figure of political hunger and masculinity that is clouded by
depression and denial. The inclusion of a middle class into the Victorian Erabrought about changes
in both the political and social practices of small towns like Casterbridge. Henchard is a self made
man who dominates his office as Mayor despite his relatively dismal upbringing. At the beginning
of the novel, Michael Henchard totes

Sexting Among Teenage Girls and Boys
Over the last few years, there has been a lot of discussion and debate over the topic of sexting. It
has become a widespread phenomenon, the number of teenage girls and boys, men and women
who participate are rapidly increasing, and with this too comes the rise of moral panic within
societies. Individuals within the communities are becoming more and more fearful, afraid and
shocked at this new form of youth culture hysteria. Although young people expressing their
sexuality has become much more open and free as of the last decade or so, the real uproar of
panic is due to the risks they involving themselves in as well as the damage and harm they are

And this is what is key to the moral panic of sexting, constant over exaggeration. As stated before
the technology and means to sext have always been available, so why now is there such anxiety
and fear towards sexting? A reason as to why this may be so, is because of the number of teens
who have committed suicide over leaked sexts. One of the most infamous cases of suicide
related to this issue is of 18 year old Jesse Logan who was mercilessly harassed at the hands of
her peers. She was dating a 19 year old boy and had sent him nude pictures of herself. However
after they broke up, he sent those photos to another girl who then sent them to others and soon
the whole school knew about it and had seen the photos. From there is where the severe bullying
started. On the Today show Jesse s friend, Lauren Taylor told NBC News about some of the
abuse which was inflicted upon Jessie Logan. She says When she would come to school, she
would always hear, Oh, that s the girl who sent the picture. She s just a whore . Her mother
Cynthia Logan said that She was being attacked and tortured . Even through the bullying Jesse
Logan made the decision to appear on a tv station to tell her story and make sure no one else
makes the same mistake. After enduring further harassment and abuse, Jesse was finally able to
graduate and looked to move on with her life. But after attending the funeral of one of her friends
the following year who had committed

Why Women Get Involved in Prostitution
Prostitution has been going on for many centuries. Many studies have gone on, researching and
trying to understand on why women get involved with prostitution and the main effects it has on
then. Some report the main causes of early prostitution was due to poverty and deviance. Many
see it as a career, a way to make a living and survive and provide for their families. Studies show
that many women engage themselves in such activities as prostitutionby their own choice, forced
into it, or because of their own mental health state. (Chudakov 305)
The start of prostitution started centuries. In the beginning many women were obligated to have
sex with men. Along with citizens from other countries being forced onto cluttered boats to come to

Once they have the child they need to find a way to support them. This is where it leads into
adult prostitution and drug dealing in order to support their new family. Once someone is
involved in drugs and prostitution it is very hard for them to get out. They are used to the
lifestyle and find it as a type of addiction. When a person starts prostitution at a young age, they
grow into it. They do not learn how to live a decent and healthy lifestyle. Many teens and adult
women who get involved into prostitution come from poor, abusive families and have very little
education. (Flowers 89 91)
A study done by Joanna Phoenix in 2000 discusses women s sustained involvement in prostitution.
In the late twentieth century it is taken for granted that women s involvement in prostitution can be
explained in terms of poverty and/or vulnerability to predatory men. However, closer examination
of the stories that prostitute women recount reveals that their narratives are marked by a paradox
that inheres in the contradictory effects of involvement in prostitution and the antithetical
representations of prostitution offered by the women. (Phoenix 37) In the study Phoenix does not
support or go against either side. Her studies primarily argue that women freely enter into
prostitution because of economic rewards, she also argues that their continued involvement makes
sense with in their social and material conditions in which they live. (Phoenix 38) Secondly

Glaciers Are Formed By Ice Erosion
Glaciers are essentially frozen rivers. They are common in the Northern Hemisphere as well as at
high altitude.
Glaciers don t erode quickly, but over a long period of time they can cause drastic changes.
Did you know that Glacial lakes are formed by ice erosion?
The glacier carves out a ditch in the earth and the glacial water melts and is left behind, and when
the glacier is moving, it collects rocks with it.
A Glacier s weight, combined with its gradual movement means that the glaciers can change the
land and make unique land forms. The three processes by which glaciation effects and changes
landscape is erosion, transportation and deposition. Did you know that when water freezes,it gets

There are two important processes of glacial erosion. The first process is called plucking,
Plucking occurs when cracked and broken rocks are frozen and stuck into glaciers. As a glacier
moves over the landscape, water melts under the glacier and gets into cracks within the
underlying bedrock. The water freezes and melts, weakening the bonds holding pieces of bedrock
in place. These pieces of rock can now be plucked from their rocky base and carried along with the
moving glacier.
Glaciers have carved out a number of important geographic

Psychology Of Religion
Ludwig Feuerbach and Sigmund Freud were similar in that both were reductionists who saw God
as somewhat of a false projection of the human mind, so both offer a psychology of religion, but
that is also the ending of their similarities. Feuerbach, for example, saw religion as the
consciousness of God being merely the projection of self consciousness; as Feuerbach puts it, Such
as are a man s thought and dispositions, such is his God (Feuerbach, p.139). And Feuerbach found
that studying religionwas beneficial to understanding humankind and did not need to be destroyed
or dismantled, which is why he proposed the idea that Theology is Anthropology (Feuerbach,
p.141). Freud, on the other hand, saw religion as a form of neurosis stemming from... Show more

138). Self consciousness to God consciousness is an idea in which one projects their values and
ideals onto the created deity in order to give oneself a moral guideline to live up to, theoretically.
And while in most religions it may not be the individual s moral ideals, but those adopted from
the religion they are surrounded by or have chosen to ascribe themselves, the same general idea
would still apply as it would be the collective projecting of the self consciousness into God
consciousness. While Feuerbach does not necessarily see a benefit to following any religions
and believing in any god or gods, he does not decide to call for there to be an end to such deities
or religions, as he does not see any harm stemming from the belief in them; rather, he believes
that religious gods give a way of studying the people that worship them. The idea of studying a
religion to understand the people that follow or believe said religion is a concept that Feuerbach
coined as Theology is anthropology (Feuerbach, p. 141). This idea is exactly what one would
expect it to be, as the study of the religion or the god(s) of the religion is really the study of the
believers of that religion. Similarly one can study the Greek, the Roman, or any other pagan god in

Audience Analysis Assignment
The assignment I chose to revise, is our first assignment of the semester. The audience analysis
assignment. I chose this one because I had the hardest time with it. It also had the most
grammatical and technical errors so I decided to go back and revise so I can get a better
understanding of what I did wrong and how to fix it for the next time.
Organization
The essay was a little unorganized and jumped around a lot, so after properly reviewing it I
realized that the essay needed to flow a little more so that the audience could get a simpler and
clearer understanding of the essay. Because, I did not use heading I need to be to appropriately
use the sections so that each one stood on its own and had a clear and precise subject on its own.
So, I went through and reread each section and ended up changing them around so that it flowed
smoother and had completed thoughts.
Completeness
Overall, the analysis was complete. It had a complete thought and theme that flowed throughout
the essay. However, because of the organization of the essay, it was somewhat lost in the jumble
of it all. I also noticed that in my subject choice, I failed to able to expand on the two websites

Erikson and Personal Psychosocial Stage
Renowned psychologist Erik Erikson is best known for his theory of psychosocial stages of
personality development. Unlike Freud, Erikson s theory spans a person s entire lifespan, from
childhood to old age. One of the main elements of Erikson s psychosocial stage theory is the
development of ego identity (Cherry, 2013). Ego Identity is the conscious sense of self that we
develop through social interaction (Cherry, 2013). Erikson believed that our ego identity is
constantly changing due to new experiences and information we acquire in our daily interactions

Romeo And Juliet Narrative Voice Essay
Consider the narrative voices in Michelle and in Romeo and Juliet Act 1, Scene 5, Lines 44 53. In
both cases, a male character is expressing his enthusiastic response of affection to a female
character. What do these sources when considered together say about how males first express their
romantic feelings. Michelle is written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney. Michelle is a love
ballad about a man who is expressing his feelings to a female, but has to speak another language
because, she does not speak English. Similarly, Romeo, in William Shakespeare s play Romeo and
Juliet, expresses his ardent emotions of affection upon laying his eyes on Juliet for the first time.
His admiration brims over and it exposes how he believes that Juliet is more alluring than more
luminous that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The narrative voice in Michelle produces an insight into the male character s thoughts as he
conveys his emotions by saying, Sont les monts qui vont tres bien ensemble ,(Doc. 1). The
young man s commentary communicates his emotion by saying in French that we would be
good together, when he says tres bien ensemble . Similarly, in Shakespeare s play, Romeo
depicts Juliet as, ... Beauty too rich for use, for earth too dear... , (Romeo and Juliet 1.5.47).
Romeo is taking a deep examination of his feelings and expressing them verbally when he say
that even the Earth can not contain such beauty and he also says that her beauty is so much that
he should not sleep with her. Romeo also depicts Juliet as true beauty when he exclaims, For I ne
er saw true beauty till this night , (1.5.53). Romeo is saying that all the women that he has ever
slept with or have even seen, Juliet has been the most exquisite and radiant of them

Princess Diana Essay example
When they feel like it is the end of the world, many people have trouble keeping a smile on their
face. Other people can continue to shine no matter how bad they feel. Those people can leave a
long lasting impact on the world. Princess Diana influenced millions of people from all over the
world, and her legacy will remain forever. Lady Diana Frances Spencer was born at home on
July 1, 1961, in Norfolk, England (Morton 70). Her parents were very ashamed that she was a
girl. They wanted a boy very badly to keep the Spencer name (Morton 71). Diana had two older
sisters and one younger brother. She was always the closest to her brother, Charles, and admired
him strongly (Vickers 160). As a child, Diana was somewhat complicated. Growing up,... Show

Diana grew up always feeling different and unlike anyone else. She was surrounded by stuffed
animals, considering them as her family (Morton 23 27). She could not rely on anyone but her
brother because they understood each other. She grew up always being jealous of her two older
sisters (Morton30). Diana Spencer met Prince Charles when she was sixteen years old, while
visiting with his family. Diana left a memorable impression. There was a thirteen year age
difference between the two of them, but they had a lot in common (Dolan 4). Diana had crushed
on Charles since she was a little girl. She was in love with him so much that she had a poster of
him hanging above her bed (Dolan 4). Diana always joked about how she should be more into
Prince Andrew because he was around her age, but she always longed for Charles. In 1980, Miss
Spencer and The Prince of Wales began talking about marriage. In 1981, Charles proposed to
her, and she immediately responded yes. Her dream was always to marry Charles (Dolan 14).
On July 29, 1981, Lady Diana Frances Spencer and Charles Philip Arthur George were joined
together in holy matrimony in St. Paul s Cathedral. This day was the most remembered day in
British history. This was the largest media event of all time (The Prince 1 2). Half a million
people joined the couple at the royal wedding. Residents from London and every part of the world,

Role of Parents in Morrison s Recitatif and O Connor s The Artificial Nigger
Parental figures in Toni Morrison s Recitatif and Flannery O Connor s The Artificial Nigger use
indoctrination in an attempt to uphold tradition and reinforce racial boundaries. While one adult
influence fulfills the mission entirely, the other must settle for inconstant, recurrent success and
ultimate failure.
In Recitatif and The Artificial Nigger a mother and a grandfather, respectively, with too much
responsibility seek to alter the lives of two children for the worst. Roberta Fisk and Nelson Head
receive introductions to the concept of racism from people with a great deal of control over their
lives. Morrison s piece ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Prior to the disturbing incident, Roberta ignores the racial difference between herself and Twyla
because their similarities rise above any color barrier. Two eight year olds orphaned to give their
mothers more freedom and less worry find common ground more easily than perhaps imagined.
Even after the unsettling encounter, Roberta gives Twyla reason to believe that she was sorry
that her mother would not shake [Twyla s] mother s hand (214). Rather unluckily, Roberta s
presence during her mother s actions, geared toward making Twyla and Mary feel small, upsets
her stability. In the same way, Nelson s feet slip from their base. Mr. Head not only publicly
announces his racial attitudes, but he does so repeatedly. As he himself says, A six month old
child don t know a nigger from anybody else (252). The same idea applies to a ten year old child,
especially if someone feels it necessary for him to be content to stay home for the rest of his life
(251). Nelson even has the urge to rest in a black woman s secure arms once his grandfather gets
them lost in the city. Still, Nelson learns to hate black people in Atlanta and decides [he ll] never
go back again (270) based on his perception of the city as allowed by Mr. Head. Though the
competition almost overcomes them, Mr. Head and Roberta s mother apparently possess almost
absolute power.

Topic Fighting Copyright infringement, iTunes and importance of a novel approach
During the Winter Semester 2014/15
Introduction
This paper attempts to show how far digitalization of music, primarily ushered in by Apple inc s
iTunes Store has had tangible results and helped tackle copyright infringement and has been able
to deal with music piracy in the United States of America. It explores the viability of a similar
approach in the Indian context while arguing that the extant legal framework is both theoretically
and practically insufficient to tackle the problem. A concerted attempt by the market as well as the
legislature to understand and balance the interests of the copyright owners, intermediaries and
consumers is essential in deciding policy as well as pricing. Only such a balanced approach will
help win the war against infringement.
Background
After an incredibly successful 1990s, the onset of the 21st century brought with it the dotcom
revolution and it signaled a watershed for the way music was consumed and distributed. The
erstwhile unshakable music record companies were exposed to a new threat, online file sharing.
According to the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), album sales grew
from $24.1 billion in 1990 to $39.4 billion in 1996 and remained at a high level until 1999 after
which it saw a downturn.

History Of Football Team Expansion
Origins Expansion of the National Football League to twenty eight teams was an agreed part of
the AFL/NFL merger of 1970 and confirmed at the end of that season,[1] but attempts to carry it
out did not materialise until after the 1973 season, when it was announced that Tampa would be
the first city to get an expansion franchise,[2] at a cost of US$ 16,000,000 (which even then was
considered a paltry sum.[3] Part of the reason for the delay was due to uncertainties in a few of the
newly integrated teams stadiums; both the Buffalo Bills and Boston Patriots had stadiums
inadequate for the NFL, and Tampa interests unsuccessfully courted both teams to move to the
Tampa Bay area.[4][5] Once Rich and Schaefer Stadiums were built for the Bills and Patriots
respectively, the league was stable enough to begin expanding.... Show more content on

Originally the proposed Tampa Bay expansion franchise was awarded to Tom McCloskey, a
construction company owner from Philadelphia.[6] McCloskey quickly became dissatisfied with
the financial arrangement with the NFL, and backed out of the deal a month later.[7] Hugh

Angeles Rams due to an unannounced sale to Robert Irsay, instead received the Tampa

Famous Authors
In today s world, many people are losing their sense of what a true, fine piece of literature really is.
It is rare to find someone who likes to read for their own pleasure. It is even rarer to find someone
who likes to read the classics, such as Shakespearean plays or a prose written by Edgar Allan
Poe. Some of the oldest tales have greatly influenced the world as we know it in many ways. A
few famous people in history who have made a positive impact on the world of literature are
Aesop, Dante Alighieri, and Charles Dickens. Some may say that Aesop is infamous for the life he
led over 2000 years ago and mostly for the hundreds of fables that have been attributed to his name
since. It is said that he was born into slavery, but was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dante s Inferno is one of the most detailed descriptions of Hell in writing. After surviving all nine
circles of Hell, Dante and his guide, Virgil, set off in pursuit of Purgatory. They make it through
each layer of Purgatory and are finally met by Beatrice, where she and Dante travel together
through the nine spheres of Paradise. With such in depth pieces of work, Dante has inspired and
influenced many poets, playwrights, and authors from past to present. The last of these great
literary influences is Charles Dickens. A man known for his many tales such as A Tale of Two
Cities and Oliver Twist, Dickens has inspired and influenced many writers. He was born on
February 7, 1812 in Portsmouth, Hampshire, England. Charles had an older brother Frances,
known as Fanny, as well as younger siblings Alfred Allen, Letitia Mary, Harriet, and Frederick
William. He attended the school of William Giles and was an avid reader of authors such as
Henry Fielding, Daniel Defoe, and Oliver Goldsmith. Dickens first book, a collection of stories
titled Sketches by Boz was published in 1836. In that same year he became the editor for
Bentley s Miscellany. Most of his novels were first serialised in monthly magazines starting with
Oliver Twist between 1837 and 1839, which was followed by Nicholas Nickleby, The Old Curiosity
Shop, and Barnaby Rudge. Charles Dickens was considered to be a spokesman for the poor, due to
his depictions of the social classes and bringing much awareness

King Henry VIII and The Reformation
Martyrdom. The selfish king. A young monk. All played a significant part in the Reformation.
Before the Reformation, the people of England were homogenous in their beliefs as they
followed the Christian teachings of the Roman Catholic Pope. The Roman Catholic Church is an
ancient Church, and changes have been made over centuries. Problems arose because of
corruption in the church such as the political power of the Pope and the concept of indulgences.
An indulgence can be described as paying a fee to buy forgiveness. At this time the Church was
very powerful and persecuted anyone with differing beliefs including burning people at the stake
for having what were supposedly heretical beliefs. King Henry VIII led the English Reformation
by introducing a new church and bringing an end to the power of the Pope. Because of his love
and study of the Word of God, Martin Luther launched the Reformation which reached all of Europe
through his 95 Theses. Each of these events working simultaneously sparked religious unrest and
contention; the Reformation began to materialize. The Reformation was a time of increasing
religious diversity and tolerance. In spite of centuries of violence, religious tolerance can be found
in England because of the lessons learned through the Catholic Protestant conflict during the
Reformation. King Henry the VIII increased religious tolerance in England during the
Reformation. From 1480 to 1530 before King Henry s reign, society in England was arguably

  • 3. Analysis Of John Steinbeck s The Grapes Of Wrath John Steinbeck was born in 1902 in Salinas, California. After he graduated high school, he attended Stanford University, but never graduated. In 1925 Steinbeck went to New York to establish himself as a free lance writer for a little while, but it didn t work out so he went back to California. He published a few short stories and novels for a while. Then in 1935 he was discovered with Tortilla Flat, a series of humorous stories. Steinbeck s novels are based on economic problems of labor. After the humorous Tortilla Flat, Steinbeck decided to write a more serious novel, In Dubious Battle, in 1936. It deals with the strikes of the migratory fruit pickers on California plantations. Then in 1937 Of Mice and Men was published. Later, The Long Valley, was published in 1938. In 1939 The Grapes of Wrath was published, the story of Oklahoma tenant farmers who couldn t earn enough money for a living, so they moved to California and became migratory workers. After a while he wrote East of Eden in 1952, The Winter of Our Discontent in 1961, and Travels with Charley in 1962. Steinbeck wrote those three stories while traveling in a three month tour through 40 American states. During this tour, he died in New York City in 1968. • 4. The Effects Of Muscular Dysmorphia On Adolescents Muscular Dysmorphia in Adolescents Body image disorders which can be very serious severe conditions are often considered to mostly affect women, men, however can also suffer from Body image issues. In men, a body image disorder typically presents itself as Muscular Dysmorphia. Men who are suffering from Muscular Dysmorphia often resort to hazardous ways to gain more muscle, such as over exercising unhealthy amounts and steroids. Treatment for Muscular Dysmorphia frequently includes prescription anti depressants. While effective, prescription drugs create a dilemma for a high school guidance counselor who may face ethical barriers in recommending a potentially harmful medication to minors. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (or CBT), has shown promise as an effective non pharmaceutical treatment for body image disorders, and has been used in the school setting for years. Case Review In Case #5, a guidance counselor in an urban school is concerned some of the boys may be having a body image issue. They work out excessively, take expensive supplements and are overly concerned with nutrition. Most importantly, the muscle building regimen these boys are following seem to be interfering with their both school and personal lives. The counselor is worried for the boys mental well being as well as their physical health. Especially with one boy in particular who seems to be engaging in illegal use of anabolic steroids. • 5. Persuasive Essay On Gun Violence There has been a rise in gun violence in the United States for the past few years killing several victims that gotten caught in cross fire, mass shootings, and in crime. In 2012, there were over a dozen mass shooting incidents with two standing out as especially tragic. One of the shootings ended with 12 people dead and 58 others harmed and only tis amount because the shooter gunwas jammed. The second mass shooting involved a man not only killing his mom but also elementary school children and some of the people working there, then later himself. With an increase of innocent people deaths due to guns there has not been a change or an increase in gun laws to lowers the death rates. In the State of Texas, it s citizens at the age 18 can walk in a store and buy a rifle without a license or any background checks. They must be at least 21 years of age to purchase a gun that cannot be seen such as a handgun. The other requirements are to be a resident of that state, have an identification card, a completion of a handgun proficiency test by a qualified instructor. • 6. Indi India And India 1. The focal point of this paper is to inform the reader about the country of India. Encompassed in the two pages are two cultural domains about India and how India relates to the United States. The first cultural domain discussed is a brief summary of the history of India in paragraph two. Immediately following the history of India, paragraph three contains the economics and most prominent resources in India. The fourth paragraph explains India s relation to the United States. 2. For more than 300 years, India known as the Mughal Dynasty, was led by many different emperors. It was not until the Europeans came around in the 1600s that profitable companies like the East India Trading Company changed how India conducted business. By the mid 1700s, the East India Trading Company became extremely powerful and would eventually take control of India s economic system. In 1857, the Britain conquered the Mughal and French armies and took control of India.1 In the beginning of the transition, the British employed a more laissez faire approach of tactfulness by illustrating to the Mughal s they did not intend to overrule their ways of life. Although the adversities of transferring to the Western norms by Indian populous were of great proportion, the British ensured cohesiveness by absorbing practices that were already in place in India. The practices the British melded their Western ideas with were of insignificant divisional political and economic areas. However, this type of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In our study we used a lexical decision task to test the spreading activation. Twelve undergraduate students from Texas A M participated. Some of the trails consisted of two related words and some consisted of two unrelated words. Two main effects were used; between subjects and within subjects. Memory storage implies putting that information into either short term or long term memory. Sensory memory is another type of memory but since it is less than one second memory storage has no use. Short term and long term memory decide whether we are able to retrieve the information or not (Mastin, 2010). Sensory and short term memory is less than one minute of storage and because of that they have no use for explicit and implicit memory. Both are found and used to breakdown long term memory. Explicit memory is the use of conscious thinking for the use of recall of important facts or events. Implicit memory is the opposite; it is the use of unconscious thinking of information and reaction. For example, texting, walking, or writing, on does not simply stop to think how to preform those actions (McLeod, 2007). To further breakdown explicit and implicit memory we use declarative and procedural memory. Declarative memory corresponds with explicit memory because it engages in conscious thinking to recall factual information. Procedural memory corresponds with implicit memory because it is the basic repetition of facts that do not take much into consideration. Declarative memory is broken down in episodic and semantic memory. Episodic memory helps the retrieval of facts, events, or experiences in ones life. Semantic memory recollects general facts and concepts that one can typically think of off the top of their head (Mastin, 2010). Memory plays a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Sir Gawain And The Green Knight Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, The Wife of Bath s Prologue and Tale present dynamic views of the art of love in medieval times. In Sir Gawain, the love between Sir Gawain and Lady Bertilak at first appears to be genuine; however, we learn that both characters were using each other guided by ulterior motives. Lady Bertilak jabs at Gawain s masculinity in order to achieve her goal. The Wife of Bath s Prologue questions the meaning of lovewhile the narrator discusses her own experience to portray the relationship between husband and wife. She also displays different views of the art of love that contrast with each other; the Tale as well poses the question of whether love or marriagebetween two people can ever be equal. In the poem, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, the encounters between Sir Gawain and Lady Bertilak depict ways in which the art of love can involve trickery. In Sir Gawain s initial interaction with Lady Bertilak and the old lady, who is later exposed as Morgan le Faye, he greets them with respect, [he] quickly offers to serve them unswervingly should they say the word. (SG, ls. 975 76). Here he shows his troth, or loyalty to the women to uphold his chivalric values, establishing a hierarchy of power. • 10. The Theory Of Egoism And Altruism In this paper I will argue that selecting only one form of egoism is not enough to explain human motives and that it takes a mix of several theories to explain it, specifically a mix of ethical egoism and altruism, with the side note that intent is not important in this situation. The mix is important, as any one theory seemingly fails to encapsulate the scope of human interactions. Pure ethical egoism, the idea that each person should only try to help themselves, makes people out to be too greedy and seemingly unwilling to help anyone at any point in their lives. Pure altruism, the idea that people should use their abilities and advantages to exclusively help others, makes people too willing to sacrifice what they have for someone else. If people were completely altruistic nothing would ever be accomplished and eventually those advantages would become erased as people stop working to better themselves. I also believe that the intent of the action is not important so the moralityof the action should be directly tied to the outcome, not the thought process of the person doing the action. All of these ideas will be explained in more detail later in the paper. This paper will look at each of these three factors individually, show why they are insufficient for explaining human motives on their own and then explain how they can all work in conjunction to better explain human motives. This paper will then go on to show how someone might disagree with this thesis by providing some ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He was the first king to die financially solvent in over 200 years due mainly to his careful avoidance of major foreign wars and by the end of his reign there was evident recovery of prosperity in the southern counties. However, Edward died too early to ensure that his heir would succeed him unchallenged. He had not created a collective commitment to the future of his dynasty that would make his heir strong enough to survive a minority reign. Although this was his main failure, he did not wholly succeed in all other actions through his reign. Edward s foreign policies appear to be eminently successful. The treaty... His financial dependence on Parliament was not too great; his only depended on them with expenditure. He had two steady sources of revenue which were customs duties and royal estates. The introduction of the Land revenue led a greater prominence of the chamber. His royal household now collected the taxes in place of the Exchequer. He was seen as a financially capable businessman and was therefore able to borrow loans easily from merchants in London. Although Edward was mainly successful with his financial policies and his treatment of the nobility, he was in fact too reliant on the Duke of Gloucester and Northumberland. This led to them becoming over mighty nobles, giving them the opportunity to eventually depose Edward s heir from the throne. Although it was not obvious at the time, this was a critical failure as it meant an undisputed succession was not ensured. Edward s commercial policy was mainly successful. He promoted the development of the English merchant marine, a new market for English trade and commerce. His treaty with Burgundy created a bigger British export trade. The export of cloth doubled and the problem of piracy decreased. Also, the treaty of Utrecht increased Hansiatic trade. Edward s only notable failure where trade was concerned was his tendency to ... • 14. Comparing The Landlady And The Monkey s Paw Many Stories show various literary elements in their text to add more detail to and context to the plot. The Landlady and The Monkey s Paw is a perfect example that displays these elements. In The Landlady , A businessman named Billy Weaver looks for a place to stay. He comes across a bed and breakfast. Little does he know the contents inside that building are unthinkable. The story The Monkey s Paw has just as much suspense. A family, the Whites, are visited by Sergeant Major Morris. They talk about a preserved monkey paw that holds magic. The son, Herbert, is doubtful but the parents believe that the paw may have some potential. They are warned that the paw will have consequences along with the wishes granted. (Wikipedia, Underground Railroad) The use of the word via was to indicate that they were not sent on a regular locomotive, but via Reading, PA. In this case the authorities went to the train station in Philadelphia with the hopes of intercepting the fugitives, allowing Still s agent to meet them in Reading and escort them to safety. Children learn the basic moral values and the socially acceptable codes of conduct necessary for later life, but they can also absorb unacceptable behaviors by observing those around them. In Barn Burning, William Faulknerchronicles the life of Abner Snopes, and the less than perfect relationship he has with his relatives and son, Sartoris. Snopes is a very bitter and discontented man, one who is envious of his rich land owning neighbors. As a rather violent man, he has an insatiable desire to control people, and instill fear in their hearts. Despite his shortcomings, the theme of family loyalty is brought into perspective by Snopes. Transformers Art Reflection Paper As children, our minds are filled with wonder and imagination, allowing pieces of art such as books, cartoons, or movies to influence us starting at a very young age. It was no different for myself as I was growing up as many pieces of art contributed to how I thought about things; none more so than the TransformersUniverse. Since my mother was a teacher at a school in Anchorage, I grew up spending more time with my father and his influence of entertainment up until I was six years old. At the age of four, I walked into the family entertainment room and there my dad was watching the original Transformers cartoon released in 1984. When my dad saw me, he pulled me into his lap and we watched it together. I fell in love with the fun loving, but powerful robots running across the screen. My father and I bonded over the intricate storyline, hilarious moments, and later the deep discussions we had regarding the show. Ever since that day, Transformers has always had a special place in my heart and mind. Around fourth grade, I started watching different series of Transformers as well as the original cartoon. I began learning the hidden morals taught in each of the different series. Throughout history, women have been belittled and undervalued by male counterparts (and even themselves), seemingly due to the fact that they have different DNA. Similarly, African Americans have been subject to discrimination for the same reasons. This paper will not only portray the thesis World War 1 brought social changes that made many societies view women in an entirely different way but it will also bring together racism and sexism by illustrating the things that black women had to go through and the conditions they lived in during the time of the war. Preceding 1914 (the official start of the war), many women who took up jobs were single and they almost always got paid considerably less than men (Braybon 150). It was accepted and expected that jobs that required any discipline or training whatsoever were inherently jobs for men (Braybon 150). This left women to do many domestic jobs, such as: cooking, washing, ironing and other jobs one would associate with a housewife ( Home Front ). One of the most common (real) jobs for women before the war was being a school teacher, because it was not physical and the only necessary prerequisites was good education. By 1911, there was an estimated 187,000 teachers in Britain ( Home Front ). Many women of a middle class social standing viewed their own jobs as temporary , as they were urged to stop working when marriage was an option (Braybon 150). It was common that lower class women had to constantly jump in and out of work according to their volatile financial needs; they were very underestimated and undervalued by bosses from work industries (Braybon 151). Here Chaucer set forth the ordinary feud between millers and reeves that happened in everyday life. When the tale was ended, the pilgrims didn t know whether to be angry because of MillerВґs rudeness or laugh at his immoral story. But because of ReeveВґs higher rank, they did not comment on it. As stated before the technology and means to sext have always been available, so why now is there such anxiety and fear towards sexting? A reason as to why this may be so, is because of the number of teens who have committed suicide over leaked sexts. One of the most infamous cases of suicide related to this issue is of 18 year old Jesse Logan who was mercilessly harassed at the hands of her peers. She was dating a 19 year old boy and had sent him nude pictures of herself. However after they broke up, he sent those photos to another girl who then sent them to others and soon the whole school knew about it and had seen the photos. Psychology Of Religion Ludwig Feuerbach and Sigmund Freud were similar in that both were reductionists who saw God as somewhat of a false projection of the human mind, so both offer a psychology of religion, but that is also the ending of their similarities. Feuerbach, for example, saw religion as the consciousness of God being merely the projection of self consciousness; as Feuerbach puts it, Such as are a man s thought and dispositions, such is his God (Feuerbach, p.139). Self consciousness to God consciousness is an idea in which one projects their values and ideals onto the created deity in order to give oneself a moral guideline to live up to, theoretically. And while in most religions it may not be the individual s moral ideals, but those adopted from the religion they are surrounded by or have chosen to ascribe themselves, the same general idea would still apply as it would be the collective projecting of the self consciousness into God consciousness. While Feuerbach does not necessarily see a benefit to following any religions and believing in any god or gods, he does not decide to call for there to be an end to such deities or religions, as he does not see any harm stemming from the belief in them; rather, he believes that religious gods give a way of studying the people that worship them. The idea of studying a religion to understand the people that follow or believe said religion is a concept that Feuerbach coined as Theology is anthropology (Feuerbach, p. 141). • 39. Erikson and Personal Psychosocial Stage Renowned psychologist Erik Erikson is best known for his theory of psychosocial stages of personality development. Unlike Freud, Erikson s theory spans a person s entire lifespan, from childhood to old age. One of the main elements of Erikson s psychosocial stage theory is the development of ego identity (Cherry, 2013). Ego Identity is the conscious sense of self that we develop through social interaction (Cherry, 2013). Erikson believed that our ego identity is constantly changing due to new experiences and information we acquire in our daily interactions with others (Cherry, 2013). This Project has been submitted by Mr. Adithya Ramchandran Iyer ID No: 211020 On Copyright Law Topic Fighting Copyright infringement, iTunes and importance of a novel approach During the Winter Semester 2014/15 Introduction This paper attempts to show how far digitalization of music, primarily ushered in by Apple inc s iTunes Store has had tangible results and helped tackle copyright infringement and has been able to deal with music piracy in the United States of America. It explores the viability of a similar approach in the Indian context while arguing that the extant legal framework is both theoretically and practically insufficient to tackle the problem. A concerted attempt by the market as well as the legislature to understand and balance the interests of the copyright owners, intermediaries and consumers is essential in deciding policy as well as pricing. Only such a balanced approach will help win the war against infringement. Background After an incredibly successful 1990s, the onset of the 21st century brought with it the dotcom revolution and it signaled a watershed for the way music was consumed and distributed. The erstwhile unshakable music record companies were exposed to a new threat, online file sharing. According to the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), album sales grew from $24.1 billion in 1990 to $39.4 billion in 1996 and remained at a high level until 1999 after which it saw a downturn. • 49. King Henry VIII and The Reformation Martyrdom. The selfish king. A young monk. All played a significant part in the Reformation. Before the Reformation, the people of England were homogenous in their beliefs as they followed the Christian teachings of the Roman Catholic Pope. The Roman Catholic Church is an ancient Church, and changes have been made over centuries. Problems arose because of corruption in the church such as the political power of the Pope and the concept of indulgences. An indulgence can be described as paying a fee to buy forgiveness. At this time the Church was very powerful and persecuted anyone with differing beliefs including burning people at the stake for having what were supposedly heretical beliefs. King Henry VIII led the English Reformation by introducing a new church and bringing an end to the power of the Pope. Because of his love and study of the Word of God, Martin Luther launched the Reformation which reached all of Europe through his 95 Theses. Each of these events working simultaneously sparked religious unrest and contention; the Reformation began to materialize. The Reformation was a time of increasing religious diversity and tolerance. In spite of centuries of violence, religious tolerance can be found in England because of the lessons learned through the Catholic Protestant conflict during the Reformation.
