The Tragedy Of Hamlet
In The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark by William Shakespeare, many scholars are known
to debate the controversial topics that are present within the play. This includes whether or not
Hamlet is pretending to be mad, if an Oedipus complex is present within the play, and if it is the
reason for his delay to action. In Hamletthere is evidence that Hamlet is only feigning madness and
in reality identifies with Claudius, thereby delaying Claudius death. This is largely in part due to
the Oedipus complex that is present within Hamlet. In Hamlet it is debated whether or not Hamlet s
madness in the playis real. However, the evidence points to the idea that Hamlet is only pretending
to be mad. When Hamlet tells Horatio As I perchance hereafter... Show more content on

Ultimately, the reason for the delay to action in Hamlet is left ambiguous but, one such credible
explanation is that the delay is due to the Oedipus complex. Hamlet sees his own sexual desires
manifested in Claudius so therefore he is unable to take action and kill the man he identifies with.
Sigmund Freud states that, Hamlet is able to do anything except take vengeance on the man who
did away with his father and took that father s place with his mother, the man who shows him the
repressed wishes of his own childhood realized (41). Hamlet is unable to punish Claudius for
killing his father because Hamlet realizes that he himself is literally no better than the sinner whom
he is to punish (Freud 41). This idea is confirmed in the last moments of the play when Hamlet s
mother dies. Hamlet throughout the play struggles to kill Claudius because he represents Hamlet s
childhood wishes, however, only after Gertrude dies is Hamlet s childhood wishes killed along with
her. Hamlet is finally able to kill Claudius because Gertrude has now died. Because Gertrude is
the object of Hamlet s desire, and she has now died, Hamlet s desire for his mother has also died
(Schaeffer). With nothing left to cause him to identify with Claudius, Hamlet is finally able to
complete the task that was given to

A New World Order For The United States
A New World Order
The 20th century brought with it a plethora of technological advancements that acted as a catalyst
for an important and lasting shift in the United State s perception of its role in the world.
Technological advancement in travel and communication changed the American people s views of
the world, therefore changing the direction of American foreign policy. This shift in foreign policy
would eventually lead the United States into the grips of two horrific wars on the European
continent. However, these wars would provide the necessary environment for the country to
establish itself as the leader of the international system a title it would desperately need tin order to
attempt to create a new, less conflict ridden global order. Though World War Iset the stage for the
United States to assume a global leadership role, which then set the stage for a second world war,
it is not to say that the United States ever wanted anything to do with a European war in the first
place. I argue that the U. S. failures to prevent World War I and World War II was due to a series
of actions and events beginning at the turn of the century (a domino effect) that made it impossible
to avoid joining either war once they began.
Samuel Morse s telegraph revolutionized long distance communication, making it possible for near
instant communication, even across such a vast space like the Atlantic Ocean. Equally important as
the telegraph, advancements in the capabilities of the steam

Industry Analysis Report on Kmart Essay
Industry Analysis Report on Kmart
INTRODUCTION
Kmart is a huge vintage company that had peeked at one time and now is struggling to survive due
to competition and other legal battles. This analysis report will describe and analyze the major
forces that shape the structure and competitive intensity of Kmart. This report will look at Kmart s
history, competitors, marketing strategies, and some legal battles that have affected the company.
The shaping and structuring of Kmart started more than one hundred years ago.
HISTORY
Over a century ago, Sebastian Spering Kresge opened a small store in
Detroit, Michigan and tainted the entire setting of retailing. He built this store not intending that his
store would develop into an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Target is also a fearsome competitor, offering fashionable items at reasonable, but not the lowest
prices.
Competition is not the only source of Kmart s consistent poor performance. Another reason is that
Kmart s never had a marketing strategy. Kmart needs a structure to guide its decisions in pursuit of
performance objectives.
MARKETING STRATEGY
In the past, Kmart depended on the focus of expanding into rural areas where other retailers did not
go. They should have focused on just being in the market, as well as protecting its geographic
advantages.
Nevertheless, the company continued to open new stores and bought several specialty chains,
including sporting goods, office supplies, and bookstores. While buying all these specialty chains,
conditions at their existing locations declined in cleanliness, service quality, and the selection of
merchandise all became problems.
The marketing strategies Kmart made in an attempt to recapture market share in the 1990s proved
to be unrelated and secluded events. Their first strategy consisted of converting all Kmart stores to
the Big
Kmart . Big Kmart s format was larger, brighter, and the stores had more categories of
merchandise. Kmart also decided to sign an exclusive deal to distribute Martha Stewart s line of
products, bed and bath fashions and house paints created by Martha Stewart, the famous home and

Earnings Management
Is earnings management good or bad? Who (or which part of corporate governance mechanisms) is
responsible to constrain earnings management? To what extent can the auditor constrain earnings
management? Propose some methods for the auditors to detect and constrain earnings management.
Does market react to firm s earnings managementbehavior?
In order to discuss earnings management and what its affects are on business and whether or not it
s a good thing, one must first understand what earnings management really is. Earnings
management is often referred to as creative accounting or income smoothing. By definition,
earnings management is strategies used by the management of a company to deliberately

Lastly, company participates in good earnings management is because it provides a way to present
information to its present and potential investors about their operations. Actions such as these that
achieve stable and predictable results and positive earnings trends through good planning and
operational responsiveness are not illegal or unethical in any way, its just part of business. All
businesses try to reach their targets and try to continue seeing growth while responding to their
competition and changes in the market. Good earnings management just allows the company to
continue their operations with some type of goal to achieve or target to reach. This only becomes
a bad thing when those goals or targets are not reached and someone starts making up the
numbers. Overall, only improper or abusive earnings management is a bad technique. Managers
and companies should focus on the long term value creation that benefits investors over the short
term earnings management that satisfies financial analysts. Quarterly or periodically managing
earnings is a bad idea for many reasons. First, quarterly predictions narrowed down to a couple of
cents per share don t say much about the company s long term prospects or ability to generate
profits. Second, as mentioned above, it s illegal to abusively manage earnings and if the company
does get caught for doing so, the actions of the company end up costing the

The Advent of Imperialism Essay
The Advent of Imperialism
We live in a world today in which the consequences of nineteenth century Western imperialism are
still being felt. By about 1914 Western civilization reached the high point of its long standing
global expansion. This expansion in this period took many forms. There was, first of all,
economic expansion. Europeans invested large sums of money abroad, building railroads and
ports, mines and plantations, factories and public utilities. Trade between nations grew greatly and
a world economy developed. Between 1750 and 1900 the gap in income disparities between
industrialized Europe and America and the rest of the world grew at an astounding rate. Part of this
was due, first, to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Competition for trade, superior military force, European power politics, and a racist belief in
European superiority were among the most important. Some Europeans bitterly criticized
imperialism as a betrayal of Western ideals of freedom and equality.
Western imperialism produced various reactions in Africa and Asia. The first response was simply
to try to drive the foreigners away. The general failure of this traditionalist response then led large
masses to accept European rule, which did bring some improvements. A third response was the
modernist response of Western educated natives, who were repelled by Western racism and
attracted by Western ideals of national independence and economic progress. Thus, imperialism and
reactions to it spread Western civilization to non Western lands.
The great test of Western Imperialism is Asia, where vast peoples live, the inheritors of
civilisations as complex as our own, more ancient and more firmly rooted by enduring custom in
the general life. The races of Africa it has been possible to regard as savages or children,
backward in their progress along the same general road of civilisation in which Anglo Saxondom
represents the vanguard, and requiring the help of more forward races. It is not so easy to make a
specious case for Western control over India, China, and other Asiatic peoples upon the same
ground. Save in the more recent

The Pros And Cons Of Intravenous Therapy
Complications of intravenous therapy include infiltration which is the solution going into the
surrounding tissue, that usually occurs when the cannula is dislodge and perforates a vein wall.
Extravasation is similar to in infiltration except with extravasation medication is entering into the
surrounding tissue (Farrell Dempsey, 2014, p 154). Clinical manifestations of infiltration and
extravasation include oedema at the insertion site, IV fluid leaking at the insertion site, discomfort
from the patient, coolness at the insertion site and a decrease in the IV flow and sloughing of the
tissue if irritated (Farrell Dempsey, 2014, p 154). Once infiltration has occurred the Nurse should

The damage on the tissue is determined by the type of medication and the strength of the
medication plus the quantity that has extravasated into the tissue (Farrell Dempsey, 2014, p 154).
Nursing management for extravasation includes stopping the IV therapy immediately and notifying
the Doctor. Depending on the work place policy procedures for extravasation may include treating
the tissue with antidotes for the medication used, assessment as to if the IV is to be removed and
resited before or after treatment of antidotes, a warm or cold compress to applied and regular
neurovascular assessments on the affected limb (Farrell Dempsey, 2014, p 154). Prevention
strategies for nursing staff to avoid infiltration and extravasation could include educating the patient

monitoring of the insertion site by nursing staff to prevent and detect infiltration and extravasation

Should The NFL Be Held Liable for Injuries Suffered by...
The topic I will be discussing in this draft is the debate on whether the National Football League
should be held liable for injuries that their employee s sustained while playing professional
football. The injuries that I will discuss are concussion and traumatic brain injuries related to
multiple concussions. In years past this injury wasn t know n to be as prevalent because that
game was played at a much slower speed. Players in todays game are bigger, faster and stronger
than ever. It has been documented that the players themselves willingly know the risk they are
taking yet still take the chance at playing the game. Players and player group representatives are
now seeking compensation for their player and player s families.... Show more content on

The HMO would be more likely cover such an injury like a concussion or concussion related
symptoms, but the NFL is less likely to do so. The NFL can debate that players make a
conscious decision to participate in a sport where this risk is involved.. The players that are
granted coverage will have top cover form outside parties involved and they can take a look at the
historical legislative involvement in overseeing or regulating professional football.
After the NFL commissioner came under scrutiny from Washington lawmakers on whether or
not the injuries in his sport were the cause of traumatic brain disease. The commissioner enacted
a policy that players had to pass a series of test by a neurologist prior to them being allowed to
return to play( Grove, J) This policy change is similar to a normal employee passing a physical
from their primary Doctor before they could return to work. The Commissioner enacted this policy
to prevent players from returning to the game to soon. The current NFL commissioner Roger
Goodell wasn t the first recognize that his sport had a problem taking care of its players. In 1962
the rule of no Face masking was enacted. This rule prohibited a player from grabbing another
player s facemask (Grove, J 657). In the late 1970 s an additional rule was enacted. The NFL
finally passed a rule prohibiting players from using their helmets to

Relevance For The Post 2015 Mdgs Agenda
CONFLICT AND DEVELOPMENT
Relevance for the post 2015 MDGs agenda
Conflict is a relatively new concept in development, and the relation between the two is complex
and remains not entirely understood. However, and given that the correlation among insecurity and
development is clear, there is a general consensus in arguing that development cannot happen
without security. In 2015, end of the Millennium Development Goals cycle, fragile and conflict
affected countries are lagging far behind other developing countries in meeting these goals. Thus,
the success of the MDGs is threatened and it depends, to a great extent, in the way conflict is
addressed. We do believe that including a security related target in the post 2015 agenda is essential

This new approach of understanding development, known as human development, gives its due to
conflict in explaining development or the lack of it.
Although today related to negative outcomes, war has not always had the same impact. Indeed,
many authors such as Tilly (1985) and Bates (2010) have analyzed how conflict led to the creation
of States in Europe during the 14th and 15th century. According to them, the presence of wars and
the need for protection raised because rural areas became wealthier as their population density
decreased. This demographic change was mainly due to the progress of manufacturing and its
consequent urbanization. To be successful at war, monarchs needed new sources of capital that
were obtained through taxation, leading to the creation of a more complex bureaucratic system
necessary to collect these taxes. Of course, individuals resisted to taxation, so monarchs had to
bargain with citizens and concede some power in return for taxes. This way, monarchs gradually
limited their own power, igniting the state building process, and laying the groundwork for future
democracy and growth. However, Europe s conditions of state formation were not replicated in
developing countries later, due to a radically different context. Amid the Cold War, rulers in less
developed countries could obtain their resources through foreign aid,

To Paint A Water Lily Essay
Mother Nature takes a deep breath, and she sighs a breeze. Her feet are planted solidly in the
ground, and her tap root toes dig deep into soft soil. Her eyes are storms; but, behind the eyes, her
mind is a pond. Nature s mind has a visible surface, but also an entirely hidden world of the
unknown water of subliminal thought. In To Paint a Water Lily by Ted Hughes illustrates the
intricacies of a pond to depict an understanding that nature is complex than what is comprehensible.
Moreover, Hughes argues that in order to create an accurate portrait of one aspect of nature, such as
a water lily, one must understand its environment.
Hughes begins the poem by distinguishing the water and the sky, thus in the opening line the author
has already complicated nature s depiction. Water and sky become two minds of the same woman,
the pond. The personification of the environment sends a message immediately: this image is not a
landscape, but a portrait. Just as a well made portrait captures the subject s personality through the

Sixteen lines of this poem are dedicated to describing creatures that alight the subject of the
painting, delicately perching for a brief second before humming away. If this much detail is
required to understand the water lily above the surface, then there must be something to say about
the waters below; however, it is through the exclusion of the details of the water that Hughes makes
his most powerful comment on nature. The water lily balances delicately between what is known
about nature, the dragonfly so to speak, and whatever horror nudge her root, the uncertainty, the
unconsciousness, the yet to be

Factors Affecting The Life Expectancy Of Haiti
Main Factors Affecting the life Expectancy of Haiti
Over the years as the medical technologies advance, the expected length of the human life of
many countries has also increased. Along with the technologies, many countries also have better
privileges over others. Canada is one of the more fortunate countries, in which the citizens has
many advantages in their daily life, whereas Haiti is the opposite. According to online statistics,
Haiti currently has an average life expectancy of 64.14 years, whereas Canada s average life
expectancy is at a much higher age of 81.93 years. The drastic difference between the two countries
is the result of many unresolved issues in Haiti, such as poverty and lack of education, the lack and
limited access to food and clean water, as well as the remaining issues from the earthquake in 2010.
Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the world. Most citizens lives in constant poverty as 60
percent of the population lives with less than a dollar a day, causing an extremely high poverty rate

The Art Of War By Sun Tzu Analysis
The Art of War written about 2,500 years ago in China by Sun Tzu, an intelligent Chinese general
and military strategist. The Art of War contain all of his advice on military tactics and war
strategies. For example, his philosophy stated, Now, when your weapons are dulled, your ardor
dampened, your strength exhausted and your treasure spent, other chieftains will spring up to take
advantage of your extremity. Then no man, however wise, will be able to avert the consequences
that must ensue (14). The Art of Warhas been commonly used by leaders and scholars. The Art of
War does not only show us amazing strategies to use in war but a new way of viewing and living
our lives. We can use all of Sun Tzu s basic principles and apply it to our everyday lives. For
instance, as a volleyballplayer, the values of not letting my strength to be exhausted, my ardor to
be dampened, treasure to be spent, and skill to be dull can be applied to my life.
Sun Tzu warning about not letting my strength to be exhausted could have helped me retaining my

The Jungle
The Jungle by Upton Sinclair (Excerpt), 1906.
Sinclair reports on the meat packing industry in Chicago, IL.
...And then there was the condemned meat industry, with its endless horrors. The people of
Chicago saw the government inspectors from Packingtown [the meat packing district of Chicago],
and they all took that to mean that they were protected from diseased meat; they did not understand
that these hundred and sixty three inspectors had been selected at the request of the packing
company, and that they were paid by the United States government to ensure that all the diseased
meat was kept in the state. They had no authority beyond that; for the inspection of meat to be sold

Essay On Indentured Servants
Indentured Servitude as a Catalyst for Colonial Success The colonies were better able to adapt to
the New World and all of its trials through the use of indentured servants. Indentured servitude gave
colonists access to the new freedoms they may not have had otherwise in Britain while giving
colonies such as Virginia a chance at success. The New World involved challenges that the colonists
never could have imagined including but not limited to disease, crop differences, and Native
Americans with very different lifestyles. Colonial Growth by means of Indentured Servants Over
half of the white immigrants that arrived to the British Colonies were able to make the passage
through agreeing to indentured servitude. Indentured servants exchanged several years of labor for
the cost of passage to America and the grant of land. During the seventeenth century, indentured
servants provided most of the labor in British America. Unanticipated... Show more content on

In Virginia where tobacco was a prominent crop, large planters bought up fertile lands, which left
very little options for freed servants. A large majority of freed servants during this time had to
choose between becoming a tenant of a planter and buying less fertile land. Decline in
Indentured Servitude With the beginnings of colonies such as New England, the need for
indentured servitude throughout British America began to decline. In New England a large
portion of the settlers were middle class. Besides even the class level of those who settled in
New England, the area was a much easier place to settle as the labor required as well as the
weather was much more mild. The strongest portions of weather was the cold climate which
ultimately helped to fend off some disease and illness that may have otherwise plagued settlers as it
did in many other colony beginnings. Long Term Slave

Geert Hofstede Cultural Perspective Theory
Geert Hofstede theorized the Cultural Dimensions theory, which allows categorisation of countries
or societies into different dimensions, explaining the effects of a society s culture on the values of
its population. (Hofstede, G. 2009) The dimensions are as follows power distance, uncertainty
avoidance, individualism vs. collectivism, masculine vs feminine, and long term or short term
orientation. By focusing on the individualist vs. collectivist dimension, the impact of geographical
location on suiciderates could potentially be explained.
Members of individualistic cultures place an emphasis personal rights, innovation, and self
expression. Individualistic cultures tend to focus more on themselves rather than groups of people
and prioritize their own personal gains and achievements. Independence is valued; there is less
importance is placed on helping other citizens of the community than in collectivistic societies.
Countries such as the United States, United Kingdom, and Australia are examples of individualistic
cultures. In contrast, collectivistic cultures place an emphasis on collaboration, shared interests and
harmony, and focus on loyalty and cooperation. Collectivist cultures therefore tend to value group
efforts over an individual s, and each person is encouraged to be an active person in society.

Nike Armour Ratios
This is a comparative analytical paper that will analyze selected financial ratios for Nike Inc. and
Armour Inc. The paper will also discuss the implications of the ratios on the overall business
performances for each entity. Financial ratios, in this case, will act as performance metrics for
different business operations. The ratios indicate the actual financial and performance health of
any business at a particular time. The earnings per share of the common stock is a financial metric
for a business net income believed to be available to reward the common stock shareholders. The
ratiois usually calculated by dividing the difference between the net after tax profits and
dividends attributed to preferred shareholders with the average number of outstanding common
shares. Significantly higher earnings per share imply that the business is capable of paying
reasonable dividends to the common shareholders while a low ratio indicates a reduced ability
for the entity to declare and pay reasonable dividends to its common shareholders. From the
comparison, Nike has a higher EPS ratio at 1.05 compared to 0.98 for Under Armour. This implies
that Nike is performing better than Under Armour and that Nike could be either making increasing
earnings or repurchasing its stocks while Under Armour is performing dismally. This low ratio for

The Invention Of The Scientific Revolution
Women in the Scientific Revolution
The scientific revolution is generally considered part of the broader intellectual revolution that
began with the Italian Renaissance and the rediscovery and translation of the classical writers,
particularly Aristotle, sometime during the fourteenth century. It is only in retrospect that one can
understand broad movements, such as this, but one can assert with confidence that the scientific
revolution resulted from a confluence of several factors, most particularly the rejection of the
Ptolemaic model of planetary movement combined with an increased interest in Aristotelian science
(Grant, 1996). Thus, the scientific revolution, insofar as it was a revolution rather than a
developing, continuous process, may be claimed to have begun in 1543 with the publication of
Copernicus De revolutionibus orbium coelestium, though establishing this as a boundary is as
much a matter of convenience as anything else (Linton, 2004). As an intellectual and cultural
phenomenon, the scientific revolution continues to the present, moving through such advances as
Newtonian mechanics, the experimental method of chemistry, advanced in anatomy and medicine,
Darwinian evolution, relativity and quantum mechanics, with myriad offshoots at every stage along
the way of this development.
At the present, there is much dispute about how, or whether, the scientific revolution will end: some
think it will continue forever, while others believe it will culminate with

Individualism in The Fountainhead Essay
Individualism in The Fountainhead
Individualism, the doctrine of free thought and action of the individual, forms the basis of Ayn
Rand s novel The Fountainhead. The major theme of her fiction is the primacy of the individual,
the unique and precious individual life. That which sustains and enriches life is good, that which
negates and impoverishes the individual s pursuit of happiness is evil.
The Fountainhead is Rand s fullest explication of the primacy of the individual. As she worked out
her interpretation of the inalienable rights: the rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness;
and what these entailed, she saw three areas of conflict where these rights were held in balance.

Prozac is claimed as the wonder drug cure for obsessive compulsive disorder, depression,

cases have been made about side effects of Prozac and how it has negatively affected many of its

Comparing Empires (Persia vs Rome)

Empires
Persia Rome
The foundations of an ancient empire are shaped by many characteristics originating in a
civilization s social, philosophical, and theological values. Collectively these will bring about an
empire that has aspects which will classify them in distinctive ways. The aspects that will be
compared between Persia and Rome are the motives for expansion, methods of expansion, the
administration, the impact on those conquered and the original empire, and the reasons for the
decline of each empire. When combined, these aspects predispose the individual overall shape of
ancient Rome and Persia. Both empires began with conquering larger rulers and creating vast

Having the satraps lessened the attempt of independence as well as having an administration
made up of locals helped keep revolts down. The impact of expansion on the core Persian
Empire was generally looked at and received in a positive manner. Increasing populations created
more cities and more job opportunities allowed many Persians the luxury of making more
money as the empire grew. The bulk of the empire was still mostly farmers, however. One of the
largest influences on the core empire was Zoroastrianism. This was advocated by both Cyrus
and Darius, Darius used it in order to claim divine right to kingship. This new religion spread
very quickly through high ranking Persians (Bentley and Ziegler, 174). Zoroastrianism preached
for people to enjoy this life but to live well for the afterlife (Stearns, Zoroastrianism: The Major
Persian Religion, 43 45). This allowed people to have fun in this life and still be able to have
eternal bliss; when people are having fun and happy they are less likely to challenge their rulers.
Cyrus and Darius both tolerated ethnic and theological diversity. They did not try to force Persian
culture on the conquered people. It seemed as though the Persians just wanted to have the right to
tax and have control of the land and its riches. The Seleucids, Parthians, and Sasanids also
advocated this policy. Although this policy worked quite well in allowing for fluid execution of
ruling,

Irony in the Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck Essay
Irony in the Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck
Many of the events in The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck do not result in the expected manner.
Although the Joads seem to be traveling in hope, irony seems to conquer several situations. There
are three types of irony: in dramatic irony, the reader sees the characters mistakes, but not the
character. In verbal irony, the author means something rather than what is said. Irony of situation is
when there is a paradox between the purpose of an action and its result. By observing several
situations during the novel, such as the events of the Weedpatch Camp, the death of Casey, and
Chapter 29, much irony can be distinguished. During the stay of the Joads in the Weedpatch Camp,

First, they search for evil in meaningless fun while filling guilt into the people of the camp. Also,
the condemners just watch what occurs instead of making change. Therefore, it seems as though
they are enjoying and willing to see sin . To sum up, they are guilty themselves, and it is ironic
how the Jesus lovers see hate instead of love. In all, irony remains as these people misunderstand
situations of joy. The instance of Casey s death in Chapter 26, the comparison of the Biblical
allusion to Jesus death becomes ironic in situation. As Jim Casey waits in front of a tent of the
labor organizers, a group of angry men approach with pick handles. Apparently, the men are
outraged at the pay of the peach picking camp, for the price is not sufficient to support families
with food. Filled with wrath, these 30 men club Casey in the head, killing him instantly.
Beforehand, Casey speaks: Casey stared blindly at the light. He breathed heavily.
Listen, he said. You fellas don know what you re doin . You re helpin to starve kids. (527)
The irony of the situation is that Casey works to keep the pay up for the workers in the camp.
Instead of attacking the cops, who are trying to keep the price down, the men beat the obvious
labor organizers. This can allude to the bible how Jesus Christ worked for peace and change to the
oppressed and unjust. Instead, he is crucified for his title and not his action. Therefore, this is

What is acid rain?
Acid rain is polluted rain, snow, or fog. The burning of fossil fuels, base metal smelting, and fuel
combustion in vehicles emits sulfur dioxide (SO2) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) (FAQ Acid Rain).

These types of soil and bedrock do not contain carbonates to neutralize the acid. Limestone
catchments contain large amounts of carbonates and thus neutralize acid very effectively (Acid
Rain and The Aquatic). In addition to the acidification of lakes, acid rain can strip toxic metals
from the catchment and contaminate the lake. These metals include aluminum, manganese, iron,
zinc, copper, nickel, vanadium, lead, and mercury (Buchdahl). These metals can be very toxic for
fish as well as humans. Aluminum concentrations as low as 0.05 mg 1 1 can kill fish and macro
invertebrate fauna. Lower levels of aluminum may not kill but can severely impair growth and
reproductive ability, and hinder respiratory ability of fish (Acid Rain and The Aquatic). Aluminum
has been shown to cause Alzheimer s and mercury can cause brain damage in humans. The tissue
of fish absorbs mercury so it can not be cooked or filleted out. Even at very small input rates,
mercury biomagnifies from the bottom to the top of the food chain (Krabbenhoft).

of the acidification, the entire ecosystem of the water body is affected through the predator prey

Following natural disasters sexual assault increases in affected areas. Some victims of these storms
are sent to shelters with little security and are put with untrustworthy people. At some of these

Texting And Driving Is A Good Thing Essay
We have all seen them, the people that come barreling down the road not knowing what s
happening because they are too busy looking at their phone. Texting and driving is one of the
most daring things people can do on the road now a days. It is a tragic practice in the United
States that needs to be stopped. It s taking many lives of peoples family and friends around the
United States today. This phenomenon of texting and driving exists and it isn t a good thing.
Although many people would agree that texting and driving isn t a safe act many still do it.
Most people feel discluded from the texting while driving danger and believe that they are safe
drivers while texting. In a survey done by National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
(NHTSA), 55 percent of young adults thought that it was easy to text and drive. Texting while
driving is a terrible thing to be doing, it impairs your driving and leaves you not paying attention
to the main task at hand, yet it is becoming more and more prevalent across the United States. If
you think that you aren t part of the problem cause you can text and drive safely, you are wrong.
Texting and many other forms of distracted driving such as eating, answering calls, and listening

dangerous. Those who feel it s not dangerous to text and drive think they are able to multi task

Biblical Heroism In Treasure Island By Robert Louis Stevenson
Noah. Moses. Joshua. Esther. What might all these people share in common? All were heroes in
light of the biblical understanding of the term, heroism. Matthew 20:28 states, Just as the Son of
Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many (NIV). This
verse embodies one of the components of a true heros character. The biblical heroes mentioned
above were humble, led others by serving, counted others needs more significant than their own,
and obeyed God s call for their lives. Of course, they were sinners and still stumbled and fell, but
their lives demonstrate true biblical heroism in their strivings to honor God and serve others.
Noah obeyed God s command to build an ark and rescued his family and the animals from the
Flood. Moses led the grumbling people of Israel out of Egypt and into the desert after continually
pleading with Pharaoh to let them go leave Egypt. Joshua listened to God s instruction and led the
Israelites around Jericho s walls until they came tumbling down. Uninvited, Esther came into King
Nebuchadnezzar s presence, asking him and Haman to dinner where she would eventually expose
Haman s evil plans and save the Jews. In Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson, the main
characters, Long John Silverand Jim Hawkins, do not measure up in comparison to this biblical
standard of heroism. Therefore, neither Silver nor Jim are heroes in the biblical light of heroism.

Similarities And Differences Between Tikki Movie And Movie
Rikki Tikki Tavi
This story resembles bravery in a little mongos named Rikki Tikki Tavi. A mongos who saves a
family and gets something in return. He protects this family with his life and always thinks of
others first. Rikki is a fighting, protecting, and loving mongos who has killed many of snakes
protecting this little boy named Teddy, and his family. In the story and movie there are many of
similarities and differences, to do with the plot, setting, and characters, comparing the book and the
movie Rikki Tikki Tavi.
Rikki was found by a river soaking wet by Teddy, a boy who wanted to have a funeral for him,
and his family. In both the story and movie he was describe cold and wet; also he was found in
the dirt. The family decided to take him home to warm him up and get him something to eat.
During the movie the big man, Teddy s dad, picked Rikki up at the river holding him with his
nose at the man s finger tips, and Rikki s tail passed his wrist. While in the story it is stated the
big man picked him up between finger and thumb. ( Kipling pg.143) there is a difference between
the story and the movie. While the movie isn t an exact replica there still are a lot of similarities.
When the family decided to bring Rikki Tikki in to dry the movie and story have a difference.
The story said that They wrapped him in cotton, and warmed him over a little fire. (Kipling 143).
Although the movie was close it showed Rikki in the cotton but he wasn t placed over a small fire.
Similarities are plentiful in the movie, but there are some differences to look up to.
Teddy and his family had Rikki for quite some time, and he was curious around the house. In the
movie right before bed Teddy was taking a bath Rikki was climbing on the side of it and fell into
the tub. This is a similarity of both the story and the movie. One difference is written in the story
that Rikki nearly drowned himself in the bathtub, put his nose into ink on a writing table, and
burnt it on the end of the big man s cigar. (Kipling 144). The movie didn t show any of this it
hadn t been shown. One night when the cobra couple nag and nagaina were talking outside of the

Feminism In The Spice Girls
The Spice Girls believed in girl power and empowering women and during the 1990s, feminism
was a larger topic. But what is feminism in the first place? The Merriam Webster s dictionary
definition of the word feminism is, the theory of the political, economic, and social equality of
the sexes. This sounds like something good, right, making people equal no matter their gender.
However, many people don t stop to do their own research and get caught up with what their
friend or favorite youtuber says about feminism, and most of the time those people didn t do
their research either. So, there are many misconceptions people make of feminism. For example,
some women are told they cannot be feminists because they like girly things, such as makeup
and fashion. (Wood 2) Telling a girl she can t wear makeup at all if she is a feminist is like
telling a man he can t wear sweatpants at all if he is a businessman. Another is that feminism is
about making women more powerful than men. This is not at all true, for feminism is about
equality and not saying women are superior. Samantha Wood, a feminist, comments on this saying,
Since when do women have to be more powerful and more appreciated? (Wood 2) These both go
back to the point of people only believing what they hear and not investigating issues for
themselves. A lot more people (including anti feminists) would probably support feminism on the
spot if it was called something like equalism. (Wood 1) Now that the definition of

Parks a year: 3 million traveled to yellowstone alone in 2015 (Visser). But sadly not all of them
have favorable trips; in 2007 the National Park Servicereported 3,593 search and rescuemissions or

Organizational Change In Eastman Kodak
1.Introduction Organizational change is the movement of an organization away from its current
state and toward some desired future state to increase its effectiveness (Lunenburg, 2010). Changes
in the environment often require changes within the organization driving within that environment.
Change fatigue is one of the challenges organization face.
Change may occur in order to remain competitive in response to new competition. Change fatigue
is rampant, and its aggravated by a natural tendency to distrust change that is imposed from above
(Morgan, 2001). This report will discuss about Eastman Kodak Company as the organization that
failed because it did not go through some organizational change or resistance to change.

Organizational Culture Organizational Culture is a pattern of shared basic assumptions that was
learned by a group as it solved its problems of external adaption and internal integration, that has
worked well enough to be considered valid and, therefore, to be taught to new members as the
correct way to recognize, think, and feel in relation to those problems (Schein, 2004). Historically,
Kodak was a business built on a culture of innovation and change, which made them very
successful, but as achievement grew so did their complacency.
The deep rooted source of Kodak s problem was a culture of self satisfaction . Kodak was
critically destroyed by its culture, although it was the quick progress of digital photo technology
that is commonly blamed for Kodak s demise (Riley, 2015). On the other hand, Kodak s new
leadership has not clearly addressed what are Kodak s essential features and neglected the need to
transform the Kodak s culture destinies, which may be any possibility of Kodak future succeed.
Therefore, the culture of Kodak was unable to operationalize and launch the ideas that would
eventually force their demise (Simonelli,

Evaluation Of The Clinical Leadership And Management Review
According to the Clinical Leadership Management Review, (2008) healthcare spending is
currently taking up 16.2 percent of our nation s economy. According to the Centers for Medicare
and Medicaid Services, cost is expected to rise to twenty percent by 2015. Nearly, seventy
percent of medical decisions are based on laboratory tests, yet the costs of lab tests account for
only four percent of the total in health care costs. Annual sales for clinical laboratory testing in
the U.S. in 2001 were thirty five billion, and are expected to grow at four percent annually
(Johnson, 2008). Upon looking at annual global growth rate, laboratory testing is projected to
increase by 5.5 percent (Johnson, 2008). As a result, laboratories as a business plays a significant
role, on how health care dollars are spent. Additionally, laboratories offer a tremendous service for
a reasonable price by providing quality, state of the art services and fair reimbursement that is
essential. Plan for Investigation The complexity in billing is especially costly for clinical
laboratories that bill for high volume, and relatively low cost procedures. It significantly increases
billing and administrative costs, reducing profit (Johnson, 2008). It is important in this kind of
environment to manage denial of payment promptly and efficiently to enhance revenue and reduce
compliance risk. Decreasing reimbursements and increasing complexity of costs characterize many
healthcare services provided in the United

Analysis of Friar Lawrence and the Nurse
Analyze the characters of the Nurse and Friar Laurence as mentors to the young people in the
play. Do these two people do the right thing by Romeo and Juliet? The nurse and Friar are
sophisticated characters that act as parental figures within the prolix and truculent play. The
timeless classic Romeo and Juliet (RJ) by William Shakespeare revolves around the notion of
determinism, death, love and deception. Despite Romeo and Juliet having warring parents who
pay little regard to them, the Nurse and Friar act as parental figures towards them who guide
through vexed situations in their best interest, however, this only prolongs their declivity, with the
Friar acting as a motif of death and the Nurse acting as a beacon of hope. By... Show more content

The Nurse concedes this proposal because of her motherly affection towards Juliet, as it is in her
best interest and desires to witness Juliet wed with a genuine love rather than an arranged
agreement. Although this can be seen as an congenial gesture, it completely rescinds the social
discourses of the time, consequently justifying that the Nurse is not a great advisor unlike the Friar.
The first exposure to the Friar shows his careful, wise manner and his obvious care for Romeo s
best interests rather than his own satisfactions. This characterization of Friar Laurence is greatly
flawed due to his impetuous thinking when put under the pressure of having two teens approach
him with the intention of killing themselves, as he attempts to guide Romeo and Juliet during their
struggles. Shakespeare laminates the Friar with fault as he is arguably the incentive, along with the
nurse for Romeo and Juliet s cessation, hence becoming the rationale of their declivity. Shakespeare
adopts symbolism upon the Friar and the Nurse. The contrasting of darkness and light is seen all
throughout the play, usually in reference to Juliet as light, although regarding the thesis, the Nurse
and Friar are metaphorical concepts of fate and the

Psychological Effects Of Psychedelics Essay
The world of psychedelia introduces many new psychological effects both medically and
recreationally. They offer a mind bending effect that is not seen in many other drugs. Using this to
their advantage doctors and therapists could use these drugs for patients who suffer from P.T.S.D.
and mental disabilities alike. Although there are many benefits to them, people still argue that
psychedelics should not be used for psychology. The negatives that come with psychedelics can
make even more problems for the user, or just increase the already existing problems. With the
chances of the negative outcomes being almost as equal to the good, should psychedelics be
used to help aid mental illnesses. It s clear that psychedelics affect the brain primarily, and
exaggerate the emotions of the user. Psilocybin is the main ingredient that is responsible for the
effects of most psychedelics. The way psilocybin works is that it stimulates serotonin receptors
in the brain called 5HT 2 receptors. Once the psilocybin starts triggering its effects the user will
start to feel intense sensations, colors become more vivid, and sounds might even become visual.
There is also a bad side that comes as a toll with psychedelics, the user might have what is called a

Survey on Drug Use and Health has concluded that psilocybin and other classic psychedelics
could very well hold promise in reducing criminal behaviour. It is also said that P.T.S.D. and

September 18, 2017 A New Trend Marijuana has always been a controversial topic. The use of
marijuana has been a major debate in the government because the government has never had any
control over it. However, the state of California in recent times has been less harsh on marijuana
by passing laws that allow recreational use across the state of California. With this in mind, the
city of Desert of Hot Springs lately has allowed opportunities for people to grow and sell marijuana
for medicinal and recreational purposes as long as they get permits from the city. As a result,

The city of Desert Hot Springs has had money issues in the past and the cultivation was one way to
get the money into its economy. Taxing business should benefit the community itself because it s
something that is in demand. Brian Maclver, with Cannabis Business Times deliberates how the
businesses will get taxed, Cultivation businesses are taxed on both their sales (a monthly 10
percent fee) and based on the size of their operations an annual tax of $25 per square foot for the
first 3,000 square feet, and then $10 per square foot for the remaining. (Maclver). Taxing the
business this way would create more money for the city to disperse the money for education or
for city roads anything that is in need for that city. In addition, tax revenue will help Desert Hot
Springs with its economical struggles that it has had in the past. In an interview conducted by
Tom Tucker from CBS, he interviewed Desert Hot Springs mayor Scott Matas, in which he
elaborated how much tax revenue the cultivating business can bring into the economy. Matas
completely backs up the evolving business, The mayor says he expect cannabis related tax
revenues to add about $10 million a year to city coffers by as early as 2021, and upwards of $25
million annually by 2026. (Tucker). As a result, the tax revenue that will be coming to city can be

Little Red Riding Hood And Wolf Comparison
Introduction:
The Grimm Brothers Little Red Riding Hood (1857), and Roald Dahl s contemporary spin on the
well known fairy tale, Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf (1982), both endeavored to shape the
meaning of the traditional fairy tale. Although Dahl relies on an audience familiar with the original
fable to appreciate his alterations, both texts are aimed towards a target audience of children.
Through comparison of the two differing versions, connections will be identified. Similarities and
differences in relation to form, purpose and language will be explained; and subsequently, how
these similarities and differences impact the target audience.
Form:
Encapsulating the traditional fairy tale structure, Grimm s tale is presented in the form of a
narrative, featuring a clear introduction, plot, and resolution. Grimm preserves the phrase symbolic
to traditional fairy tales, once upon a time , introducing the audience to a familiar world of fantasy.
The events unfold through a chronological sequence: After that the aged grandmother , Then all
three were delighted and Soon afterwards the wolf knocked , followed by informative sentences: the
door sprang open, and without saying a word he went straight to the grandmother s bed, and
devoured her , complimenting Grimm s formal and instructive intentions, embellishing and
providing the audience with a sound understanding. Grimm embraces the use of a third person
voice to gain authority of the audience, and sufficiently sculpts each character into their
conventional protagonist and antagonist roles: Little Red Riding Hood as a dear little girl and wolf
as wicked creature .
Dahl offers a significantly different interpretation, transforming the traditional folk tale into a poem.
The consistent use of rhyme and rhythm appeals to the audience, allowing smooth transition and
flow between sequences. The several stanzas composing the poem feature short sentences which
add clarity; eventually compacting at the final plot twist, The small girl smiles. One eyelid flickers
, to represent an acceleration in pace and create audience suspension. Dahl also begins his version
with the wolf a perspective not usually seen to ensure the audience identifies with the wolf.

Liberalism Is The Root Of Our American Soil Essay
We have all heard the terms right wing conservatives and left wing liberals, but many people are
not quite sure which wing is correct. Although both sides have good arguments for separate issues,
in my opinion, liberalism should be guiding our thinking when it comes to our economic ways, and
political rights; liberalismis the root of our American soil. Many people believe that steering away
from liberalism is the right way to create change, and build upon our freedoms, but by returning
to what our country was built upon, we can continue the aim of a free, fair and prosperous
society. This paper will guide you through the two main phases of liberalism: classical and
modern; their manifestations; and how as a democracy, liberalism represents a strategy practical
for a free society. Liberals believe government action works to achieve equal opportunity and
equalities for every individual in our society. The government s duty presented here is to alleviate
social ills, to protect civil liberties, and protect individuals and human rights. The government s
crucial role in a liberalistic society is to guarantee that no one is in need, and that liberal policies
stress the need for the government to solve problems. From an egalitarian sense, liberalism focuses
on attaining more equal distributions of income and well being than that that would be generated
in the market place otherwise. In a country where freedom and equality play a major role, taking
on liberal policies would

with delegations from all over the world attending to lay claim to their desires, or gain reparations
for their sacrifices throughout the greatest war the world had ever been subject to. The big four
countries at the negotiating table were the British under Lloyd George, the French led by Georges

The Treaty of Versaillesagreed upon in 1919 set in motion events that would be direct causes of
World War II. According to Robert Cowley, the treaty stripped Germany of many territories,
including Eupen Malmeacutedy, given to Belgium, Alsace Lorraine to France, large amounts of
eastern lands to Poland, the Memel region to Lithuania, and most of the Schelswig area of the
Danish peninsula to Denmark. Germany lost all of her overseas colonies as well. It also forced
Germany to limit their army to 100,000 men, and forbade them certain types of weapons common
to modern armies. The worst part of all was that Germany was made to assume all the guilt for the
war, and forced them to pay an amount of war reparations unspecified at first, then set around 33
billion gold marks(Cowley). World War One: Treaties says that the peace terms imposed upon the
defeated countries, Germany, Austria, Hungary, and Bulgaria, seemed to them to be unfair and

  • 2. The Tragedy Of Hamlet In The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark by William Shakespeare, many scholars are known to debate the controversial topics that are present within the play. This includes whether or not Hamlet is pretending to be mad, if an Oedipus complex is present within the play, and if it is the reason for his delay to action. In Hamletthere is evidence that Hamlet is only feigning madness and in reality identifies with Claudius, thereby delaying Claudius death. This is largely in part due to the Oedipus complex that is present within Hamlet. In Hamlet it is debated whether or not Hamlet s madness in the playis real. However, the evidence points to the idea that Hamlet is only pretending to be mad. When Hamlet tells Horatio As I perchance hereafter... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ultimately, the reason for the delay to action in Hamlet is left ambiguous but, one such credible explanation is that the delay is due to the Oedipus complex. Hamlet sees his own sexual desires manifested in Claudius so therefore he is unable to take action and kill the man he identifies with. Sigmund Freud states that, Hamlet is able to do anything except take vengeance on the man who did away with his father and took that father s place with his mother, the man who shows him the repressed wishes of his own childhood realized (41). Hamlet is unable to punish Claudius for killing his father because Hamlet realizes that he himself is literally no better than the sinner whom he is to punish (Freud 41). This idea is confirmed in the last moments of the play when Hamlet s mother dies. Hamlet throughout the play struggles to kill Claudius because he represents Hamlet s childhood wishes, however, only after Gertrude dies is Hamlet s childhood wishes killed along with her. Hamlet is finally able to kill Claudius because Gertrude has now died. Because Gertrude is the object of Hamlet s desire, and she has now died, Hamlet s desire for his mother has also died (Schaeffer). With nothing left to cause him to identify with Claudius, Hamlet is finally able to complete the task that was given to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. A New World Order For The United States A New World Order The 20th century brought with it a plethora of technological advancements that acted as a catalyst for an important and lasting shift in the United State s perception of its role in the world. Technological advancement in travel and communication changed the American people s views of the world, therefore changing the direction of American foreign policy. This shift in foreign policy would eventually lead the United States into the grips of two horrific wars on the European continent. However, these wars would provide the necessary environment for the country to establish itself as the leader of the international system a title it would desperately need tin order to attempt to create a new, less conflict ridden global order. Though World War Iset the stage for the United States to assume a global leadership role, which then set the stage for a second world war, it is not to say that the United States ever wanted anything to do with a European war in the first place. I argue that the U. S. failures to prevent World War I and World War II was due to a series of actions and events beginning at the turn of the century (a domino effect) that made it impossible to avoid joining either war once they began. Samuel Morse s telegraph revolutionized long distance communication, making it possible for near instant communication, even across such a vast space like the Atlantic Ocean. Equally important as the telegraph, advancements in the capabilities of the steam ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Industry Analysis Report on Kmart Essay Industry Analysis Report on Kmart INTRODUCTION Kmart is a huge vintage company that had peeked at one time and now is struggling to survive due to competition and other legal battles. This analysis report will describe and analyze the major forces that shape the structure and competitive intensity of Kmart. This report will look at Kmart s history, competitors, marketing strategies, and some legal battles that have affected the company. The shaping and structuring of Kmart started more than one hundred years ago. HISTORY Over a century ago, Sebastian Spering Kresge opened a small store in Detroit, Michigan and tainted the entire setting of retailing. He built this store not intending that his store would develop into an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Target is also a fearsome competitor, offering fashionable items at reasonable, but not the lowest prices. Competition is not the only source of Kmart s consistent poor performance. Another reason is that Kmart s never had a marketing strategy. Kmart needs a structure to guide its decisions in pursuit of performance objectives. MARKETING STRATEGY In the past, Kmart depended on the focus of expanding into rural areas where other retailers did not go. They should have focused on just being in the market, as well as protecting its geographic advantages. Nevertheless, the company continued to open new stores and bought several specialty chains, including sporting goods, office supplies, and bookstores. While buying all these specialty chains, conditions at their existing locations declined in cleanliness, service quality, and the selection of merchandise all became problems. The marketing strategies Kmart made in an attempt to recapture market share in the 1990s proved to be unrelated and secluded events. Their first strategy consisted of converting all Kmart stores to the Big Kmart . Big Kmart s format was larger, brighter, and the stores had more categories of merchandise. Kmart also decided to sign an exclusive deal to distribute Martha Stewart s line of products, bed and bath fashions and house paints created by Martha Stewart, the famous home and garden

To what extent can the auditor constrain earnings management? Propose some methods for the auditors to detect and constrain earnings management. Does market react to firm s earnings managementbehavior? In order to discuss earnings management and what its affects are on business and whether or not it s a good thing, one must first understand what earnings management really is. Earnings management is often referred to as creative accounting or income smoothing. By definition, earnings management is strategies used by the management of a company to deliberately manipulate the company s earnings so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lastly, company participates in good earnings management is because it provides a way to present information to its present and potential investors about their operations. Actions such as these that achieve stable and predictable results and positive earnings trends through good planning and operational responsiveness are not illegal or unethical in any way, its just part of business. All businesses try to reach their targets and try to continue seeing growth while responding to their competition and changes in the market. Good earnings management just allows the company to continue their operations with some type of goal to achieve or target to reach. This only becomes a bad thing when those goals or targets are not reached and someone starts making up the numbers. Overall, only improper or abusive earnings management is a bad technique. Managers and companies should focus on the long term value creation that benefits investors over the short term earnings management that satisfies financial analysts. Quarterly or periodically managing earnings is a bad idea for many reasons. First, quarterly predictions narrowed down to a couple of cents per share don t say much about the company s long term prospects or ability to generate profits. Second, as mentioned above, it s illegal to abusively manage earnings and if the company does get caught for doing so, the actions of the company end up costing the ... • 7. The Advent of Imperialism Essay The Advent of Imperialism We live in a world today in which the consequences of nineteenth century Western imperialism are still being felt. By about 1914 Western civilization reached the high point of its long standing global expansion. This expansion in this period took many forms. There was, first of all, economic expansion. Europeans invested large sums of money abroad, building railroads and ports, mines and plantations, factories and public utilities. Trade between nations grew greatly and a world economy developed. Between 1750 and 1900 the gap in income disparities between industrialized Europe and America and the rest of the world grew at an astounding rate. Part of this was due, first, to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Competition for trade, superior military force, European power politics, and a racist belief in European superiority were among the most important. Some Europeans bitterly criticized imperialism as a betrayal of Western ideals of freedom and equality. Western imperialism produced various reactions in Africa and Asia. The first response was simply to try to drive the foreigners away. The general failure of this traditionalist response then led large masses to accept European rule, which did bring some improvements. A third response was the modernist response of Western educated natives, who were repelled by Western racism and attracted by Western ideals of national independence and economic progress. Thus, imperialism and reactions to it spread Western civilization to non Western lands. The great test of Western Imperialism is Asia, where vast peoples live, the inheritors of civilisations as complex as our own, more ancient and more firmly rooted by enduring custom in the general life. The races of Africa it has been possible to regard as savages or children, backward in their progress along the same general road of civilisation in which Anglo Saxondom represents the vanguard, and requiring the help of more forward races. It is not so easy to make a specious case for Western control over India, China, and other Asiatic peoples upon the same ground. Save in the more recent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Extravasation is similar to in infiltration except with extravasation medication is entering into the surrounding tissue (Farrell Dempsey, 2014, p 154). Clinical manifestations of infiltration and extravasation include oedema at the insertion site, IV fluid leaking at the insertion site, discomfort from the patient, coolness at the insertion site and a decrease in the IV flow and sloughing of the tissue if irritated (Farrell Dempsey, 2014, p 154). • 9. Should The NFL Be Held Liable for Injuries Suffered by... The topic I will be discussing in this draft is the debate on whether the National Football League should be held liable for injuries that their employee s sustained while playing professional football. The injuries that I will discuss are concussion and traumatic brain injuries related to multiple concussions. In years past this injury wasn t know n to be as prevalent because that game was played at a much slower speed. Players in todays game are bigger, faster and stronger than ever. It has been documented that the players themselves willingly know the risk they are taking yet still take the chance at playing the game. Players and player group representatives are now seeking compensation for their player and player s families.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The HMO would be more likely cover such an injury like a concussion or concussion related symptoms, but the NFL is less likely to do so. The NFL can debate that players make a conscious decision to participate in a sport where this risk is involved.. After the NFL commissioner came under scrutiny from Washington lawmakers on whether or not the injuries in his sport were the cause of traumatic brain disease. The commissioner enacted a policy that players had to pass a series of test by a neurologist prior to them being allowed to return to play( Grove, J) This policy change is similar to a normal employee passing a physical from their primary Doctor before they could return to work. The Commissioner enacted this policy to prevent players from returning to the game to soon. The current NFL commissioner Roger Goodell wasn t the first recognize that his sport had a problem taking care of its players. In 1962 the rule of no Face masking was enacted. Relevance For The Post 2015 Mdgs Agenda CONFLICT AND DEVELOPMENT Relevance for the post 2015 MDGs agenda Conflict is a relatively new concept in development, and the relation between the two is complex and remains not entirely understood. However, and given that the correlation among insecurity and development is clear, there is a general consensus in arguing that development cannot happen without security. In 2015, end of the Millennium Development Goals cycle, fragile and conflict affected countries are lagging far behind other developing countries in meeting these goals. According to them, the presence of wars and the need for protection raised because rural areas became wealthier as their population density decreased. This demographic change was mainly due to the progress of manufacturing and its consequent urbanization. To be successful at war, monarchs needed new sources of capital that were obtained through taxation, leading to the creation of a more complex bureaucratic system necessary to collect these taxes. Of course, individuals resisted to taxation, so monarchs had to bargain with citizens and concede some power in return for taxes. This way, monarchs gradually limited their own power, igniting the state building process, and laying the groundwork for future democracy and growth. However, Europe s conditions of state formation were not replicated in developing countries later, due to a radically different context. Amid the Cold War, rulers in less developed countries could obtain their resources through foreign aid, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. To Paint A Water Lily Essay Mother Nature takes a deep breath, and she sighs a breeze. Her feet are planted solidly in the ground, and her tap root toes dig deep into soft soil. Her eyes are storms; but, behind the eyes, her mind is a pond. Nature s mind has a visible surface, but also an entirely hidden world of the unknown water of subliminal thought. In To Paint a Water Lily by Ted Hughes illustrates the intricacies of a pond to depict an understanding that nature is complex than what is comprehensible. Moreover, Hughes argues that in order to create an accurate portrait of one aspect of nature, such as a water lily, one must understand its environment. Hughes begins the poem by distinguishing the water and the sky, thus in the opening line the author has already complicated nature s depiction. Water and sky become two minds of the same woman, the pond. The personification of the environment sends a message immediately: this image is not a landscape, but a portrait. By focusing on the individualist vs. collectivist dimension, the impact of geographical location on suiciderates could potentially be explained. Members of individualistic cultures place an emphasis personal rights, innovation, and self expression. Individualistic cultures tend to focus more on themselves rather than groups of people and prioritize their own personal gains and achievements. Independence is valued; there is less importance is placed on helping other citizens of the community than in collectivistic societies. Countries such as the United States, United Kingdom, and Australia are examples of individualistic cultures. Financial ratios, in this case, will act as performance metrics for different business operations. The ratios indicate the actual financial and performance health of any business at a particular time. The earnings per share of the common stock is a financial metric for a business net income believed to be available to reward the common stock shareholders. The ratiois usually calculated by dividing the difference between the net after tax profits and dividends attributed to preferred shareholders with the average number of outstanding common shares. Significantly higher earnings per share imply that the business is capable of paying reasonable dividends to the common shareholders while a low ratio indicates a reduced ability for the entity to declare and pay reasonable dividends to its common shareholders. From the comparison, Nike has a higher EPS ratio at 1.05 compared to 0.98 for Under Armour. • 28. The Invention Of The Scientific Revolution Women in the Scientific Revolution The scientific revolution is generally considered part of the broader intellectual revolution that began with the Italian Renaissance and the rediscovery and translation of the classical writers, particularly Aristotle, sometime during the fourteenth century. It is only in retrospect that one can understand broad movements, such as this, but one can assert with confidence that the scientific revolution resulted from a confluence of several factors, most particularly the rejection of the Ptolemaic model of planetary movement combined with an increased interest in Aristotelian science (Grant, 1996). Thus, the scientific revolution, insofar as it was a revolution rather than a developing, continuous process, may be claimed to have begun in 1543 with the publication of Copernicus De revolutionibus orbium coelestium, though establishing this as a boundary is as much a matter of convenience as anything else (Linton, 2004). As an intellectual and cultural phenomenon, the scientific revolution continues to the present, moving through such advances as Newtonian mechanics, the experimental method of chemistry, advanced in anatomy and medicine, Darwinian evolution, relativity and quantum mechanics, with myriad offshoots at every stage along the way of this development. The bulk of the empire was still mostly farmers, however. One of the largest influences on the core empire was Zoroastrianism. This was advocated by both Cyrus and Darius, Darius used it in order to claim divine right to kingship. This new religion spread very quickly through high ranking Persians (Bentley and Ziegler, 174). Zoroastrianism preached for people to enjoy this life but to live well for the afterlife (Stearns, Zoroastrianism: The Major Persian Religion, 43 45). This allowed people to have fun in this life and still be able to have eternal bliss; when people are having fun and happy they are less likely to challenge their rulers. There are three types of irony: in dramatic irony, the reader sees the characters mistakes, but not the character. In verbal irony, the author means something rather than what is said. Irony of situation is when there is a paradox between the purpose of an action and its result. The instance of Casey s death in Chapter 26, the comparison of the Biblical allusion to Jesus death becomes ironic in situation. As Jim Casey waits in front of a tent of the labor organizers, a group of angry men approach with pick handles. These gases enter the atmosphere ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These types of soil and bedrock do not contain carbonates to neutralize the acid. Limestone catchments contain large amounts of carbonates and thus neutralize acid very effectively (Acid Rain and The Aquatic). In addition to the acidification of lakes, acid rain can strip toxic metals from the catchment and contaminate the lake. These metals include aluminum, manganese, iron, zinc, copper, nickel, vanadium, lead, and mercury (Buchdahl). These metals can be very toxic for fish as well as humans. Aluminum concentrations as low as 0.05 mg 1 1 can kill fish and macro invertebrate fauna. Lower levels of aluminum may not kill but can severely impair growth and reproductive ability, and hinder respiratory ability of fish (Acid Rain and The Aquatic). Aluminum has been shown to cause Alzheimer s and mercury can cause brain damage in humans. The tissue of fish absorbs mercury so it can not be cooked or filleted out. Even at very small input rates, mercury biomagnifies from the bottom to the top of the food chain (Krabbenhoft). back to top Effects of Freshwater Acidification At the beginning of lake acidification, the biomass remains largely unchanged, but the diversity drops considerably (Buchdahl). As the number of one species or group of species changes because of the acidification, the entire ecosystem of the water body is affected through the predator prey relationship (FAQ Acid Rain).

  • 38. Biblical Heroism In Treasure Island By Robert Louis Stevenson Noah. Moses. Joshua. Esther. What might all these people share in common? All were heroes in light of the biblical understanding of the term, heroism. Matthew 20:28 states, Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many (NIV). This verse embodies one of the components of a true heros character. The biblical heroes mentioned above were humble, led others by serving, counted others needs more significant than their own, and obeyed God s call for their lives. Of course, they were sinners and still stumbled and fell, but their lives demonstrate true biblical heroism in their strivings to honor God and serve others. Noah obeyed God s command to build an ark and rescued his family and the animals from the Flood. Moses led the grumbling people of Israel out of Egypt and into the desert after continually pleading with Pharaoh to let them go leave Egypt. Joshua listened to God s instruction and led the Israelites around Jericho s walls until they came tumbling down. Uninvited, Esther came into King Nebuchadnezzar s presence, asking him and Haman to dinner where she would eventually expose Haman s evil plans and save the Jews. In Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson, the main characters, Long John Silverand Jim Hawkins, do not measure up in comparison to this biblical standard of heroism. Therefore, neither Silver nor Jim are heroes in the biblical light of heroism. Jim Hawkins arrogance, cowardice, and selfishness ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A mongos who saves a family and gets something in return. He protects this family with his life and always thinks of others first. Rikki is a fighting, protecting, and loving mongos who has killed many of snakes protecting this little boy named Teddy, and his family. In the story and movie there are many of similarities and differences, to do with the plot, setting, and characters, comparing the book and the movie Rikki Tikki Tavi. Rikki was found by a river soaking wet by Teddy, a boy who wanted to have a funeral for him, and his family. In both the story and movie he was describe cold and wet; also he was found in the dirt. The family decided to take him home to warm him up and get him something to eat. During the movie the big man, Teddy s dad, picked Rikki up at the river holding him with his nose at the man s finger tips, and Rikki s tail passed his wrist. While in the story it is stated the big man picked him up between finger and thumb. ( Kipling pg.143) there is a difference between the story and the movie. In the movie right before bed Teddy was taking a bath Rikki was climbing on the side of it and fell into the tub. This is a similarity of both the story and the movie. One difference is written in the story that Rikki nearly drowned himself in the bathtub, put his nose into ink on a writing table, and burnt it on the end of the big man s cigar. (Kipling 144). The movie didn t show any of this it hadn t been shown. The Merriam Webster s dictionary definition of the word feminism is, the theory of the political, economic, and social equality of the sexes. This sounds like something good, right, making people equal no matter their gender. However, many people don t stop to do their own research and get caught up with what their friend or favorite youtuber says about feminism, and most of the time those people didn t do their research either. So, there are many misconceptions people make of feminism. For example, some women are told they cannot be feminists because they like girly things, such as makeup and fashion. (Wood 2) Telling a girl she can t wear makeup at all if she is a feminist is like telling a man he can t wear sweatpants at all if he is a businessman. Another is that feminism is about making women more powerful than men. This is not at all true, for feminism is about equality and not saying women are superior. Samantha Wood, a feminist, comments on this saying, Since when do women have to be more powerful and more appreciated? (Wood 2) These both go back to the point of people only believing what they hear and not investigating issues for themselves. A lot more people (including anti feminists) would probably support feminism on the spot if it was called something like equalism. (Wood 1) Now that the definition of ... Nearly, seventy percent of medical decisions are based on laboratory tests, yet the costs of lab tests account for only four percent of the total in health care costs. Do these two people do the right thing by Romeo and Juliet? The nurse and Friar are sophisticated characters that act as parental figures within the prolix and truculent play. The timeless classic Romeo and Juliet (RJ) by William Shakespeare revolves around the notion of determinism, death, love and deception. Despite Romeo and Juliet having warring parents who pay little regard to them, the Nurse and Friar act as parental figures towards them who guide through vexed situations in their best interest, however, this only prolongs their declivity, with the Friar acting as a motif of death and the Nurse acting as a beacon of hope. By... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Nurse concedes this proposal because of her motherly affection towards Juliet, as it is in her best interest and desires to witness Juliet wed with a genuine love rather than an arranged agreement. Although this can be seen as an congenial gesture, it completely rescinds the social discourses of the time, consequently justifying that the Nurse is not a great advisor unlike the Friar. The first exposure to the Friar shows his careful, wise manner and his obvious care for Romeo s best interests rather than his own satisfactions. This characterization of Friar Laurence is greatly flawed due to his impetuous thinking when put under the pressure of having two teens approach him with the intention of killing themselves, as he attempts to guide Romeo and Juliet during their struggles. Shakespeare laminates the Friar with fault as he is arguably the incentive, along with the nurse for Romeo and Juliet s cessation, hence becoming the rationale of their declivity. Shakespeare adopts symbolism upon the Friar and the Nurse. The contrasting of darkness and light is seen all throughout the play, usually in reference to Juliet as light, although regarding the thesis, the Nurse and Friar are metaphorical concepts of fate and the ... • 51. Little Red Riding Hood And Wolf Comparison Introduction: The Grimm Brothers Little Red Riding Hood (1857), and Roald Dahl s contemporary spin on the well known fairy tale, Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf (1982), both endeavored to shape the meaning of the traditional fairy tale. Although Dahl relies on an audience familiar with the original fable to appreciate his alterations, both texts are aimed towards a target audience of children. Through comparison of the two differing versions, connections will be identified. Similarities and differences in relation to form, purpose and language will be explained; and subsequently, how these similarities and differences impact the target audience. Form: Encapsulating the traditional fairy tale structure, Grimm s tale is presented in the form of a narrative, featuring a clear introduction, plot, and resolution. Grimm preserves the phrase symbolic to traditional fairy tales, once upon a time , introducing the audience to a familiar world of fantasy. The events unfold through a chronological sequence: After that the aged grandmother , Then all three were delighted and Soon afterwards the wolf knocked , followed by informative sentences: the door sprang open, and without saying a word he went straight to the grandmother s bed, and devoured her , complimenting Grimm s formal and instructive intentions, embellishing and providing the audience with a sound understanding. Grimm embraces the use of a third person voice to gain authority of the audience, and sufficiently sculpts each character into their conventional protagonist and antagonist roles: Little Red Riding Hood as a dear little girl and wolf as wicked creature . Dahl offers a significantly different interpretation, transforming the traditional folk tale into a poem. The consistent use of rhyme and rhythm appeals to the audience, allowing smooth transition and flow between sequences. The several stanzas composing the poem feature short sentences which add clarity; eventually compacting at the final plot twist, The small girl smiles. One eyelid flickers , to represent an acceleration in pace and create audience suspension. Dahl also begins his version with the wolf a perspective not usually seen to ensure the audience identifies with the wolf. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many people believe that steering away from liberalism is the right way to create change, and build upon our freedoms, but by returning to what our country was built upon, we can continue the aim of a free, fair and prosperous society. This paper will guide you through the two main phases of liberalism: classical and modern; their manifestations; and how as a democracy, liberalism represents a strategy practical for a free society. Liberals believe government action works to achieve equal opportunity and equalities for every individual in our society. The government s duty presented here is to alleviate social ills, to protect civil liberties, and protect individuals and human rights. The government s crucial role in a liberalistic society is to guarantee that no one is in need, and that liberal policies stress the need for the government to solve problems.
