Research Paper On Affluenza
What is Affluenza? As the video stated affluenza is, An unhappy condition of overload, debt,
anxiety, and waste resulting from the dogged pursuit of more. What are the symptoms?
According to the video, symptoms include swollen expectations, chronic stress, hyper
commercialism, material girls (and boys), the rash of bankruptcies, fractured families, social
scars, and global infection. Do you believe it s a real problem in the United States? Why or Why
not? Yes I think it s a real problem in the United States. I think it s a problem because affluenza is
seen everywhere I look. Life should not revolve around materialistic items, but it does for a lot
of people. I personally do not care as much about stuff. I like having nice things sometimes, but
material items do not rule me. The media, movie stars, and my friends and family display
affluenza. For instance, the media and movie stars portray a high cost of living, with
materialistic ways of life. Stars are always wearing designer clothes, and the newest hair styles
and makeup trends. Certain stars are hired to advertise various products all the time. My friends,
actually one in particular I am thinking of, has lots of nice things and goes out with friends
regularly. She spends all her money on the newest clothes, makeup technology, workout gear,
going out to eat a lot, and drinking. She lives paycheck to paycheck because of her lifestyle.
These are just a few examples of affluenza I have seen. What parts of the program

Review of the Gladiator Essay
Review of the Gladiator At start of the film the shots are close up to the Robin seating on the
branch. A Robin has connotations of winter and morning, as this is the time when the Robins
usually come out and bird is a symbol of freedom. We then return to the shot of the main character;
we see facial expression as he smiles, we assume that he is smiling untroubled at this bird. At the
background there is Spanish music that has the fact been played tells us he is Spanish. The music

As the battle starts the camera dollies cut fourth and back from the ground view and which puts
the audience right in front of the seats of the arena this is to give a variety of shots in the
fighting scene and fast pace this is so that the audience can be involved in the fight. It also shows
the fighter s perspective to the fight all thought this scene have some slow motion other camera
shots blurred and others normal speed. This is because whenever any of those happened it was
always seen in Maximus view and so Maximus is beginning to die and would be seeing things at
different speed. The fight is fast paced and the camera angles vary lots of times in a very short
space of time to make it look exciting then it actually was. The only sound we hear is only sharp
blades clashing the camera cuts to Maximus side once again more to show that he dying and is
almost dead. The director here wants the audience to feel sorry for Maximus. As the camera
spins around the coliseum silence breaks this is to give the effect that everyone is watching and
reflecting on the Emperor s death. The music starts very slowly and start to build up this is to tell
us that the fight has finished. The director uses colour, music and camera shots in the battle scene.
He then uses grey and blue and dark red colours. This is used to represent winter, which is a

Back To The Future Analysis
Science Fiction and the future are often interpreted in various different ways in both film and text.
However the way in which both Hover Car Racer, written by Matthew Reily and Back to the Future
Part II, directed by Robert Zemeckis, show interpretations of the future intertwined with a reality
similar to the one we know today. Both Zemeckis and Reily interpret the futurein a different manner,
yet the predicted future shares many similarities including the use of Hover Technology as a
transportation method. Reily depicts the future and Hover Technology being used as more then
transportation, with uses such as sporting events. Antagonists cause issues for the central characters

Reily has written about the antagonists, Jason Chaser, his brother known as The Bug and their
friend and Mech Chief, Sally McDuff, facing an adversarial group of protagonists who believe
that Jason, The Bug and Sally do not belong at the International Race School: Tell me how a
little runt who comes stone dead motherless last in the regionals gets to come to race school.
Using despicable tactics, the unrevealed group of antagonists try to affect Jason s racing career
through the supply of defective parts for his Hover Car and sabotaging his vehicle to cause
maximum damage. Biff Tannen and his family are the main antagonists in Zemeckis Back to the
Future Part II, causing a vast amount of grief for the protagonists, Doctor Emmett Brown and
Marty McFly Jr. After travelling to the year 2015, Marty buys a sports almanac for his personal
use in 1985 and after being lectured by Doctor Brown: I didn t invent the time machine to win at
gambling. I invented the time machine to travel through time! He then disposes of the book.
However the book and the DeLorean time machine are then stolen by Biff, who returns to the year
1955 and gives the book to his future self. By giving the sports book to his 1955 self, Biff
drastically alters the events of the future, creating an alternative

Non Traditional Families In The 1800s
Families in History
There are many ways that the idea of the traditional family has changed over the past several
centuries. For instance prior to the 19th century family was often considered anyone who lived
within a household whether related by blood or not. This included employees and extended family.
Per Coontz (2010) The biological family was less sacrosanct, and less sentimentalized, than it
would become in the nineteenth century. (p. 35) In society at the time it was socially
unacceptable to be separate or not included as part of a family household. Over time, the term
family came to encompass the immediate family, a husband, wife and their children. During the
late 1800 s through the mid 1900 s there were emerging ideas of family that were not widely
accepted as traditional or normal, these included single parent homes with only a Mom or Dad,
Stepfamilies and same sex couple and parent households. Today, American ideas of what constitutes
a family have drastically expanded to include these formerly non traditional families ... Show more

This was mostly due to socio economic need. Their husbands were more accepting of this as it
benefited the entire family. Slavery having rendered black men and women equally powerless, had
leveled the gender playing field within the black community. (Franklin, 2010, p. 65) There was a
sharp difference in marriage rates of black and white women activists in the early 20th century.
The amount of black married women activists was double that of white women activists A
reason for this disparity, being that white women were more likely to buy into the notion that a
woman s place was in the home and many believed this to be a more ideal situation. This traditional
marriage has been described as an exchange of a male s economic resources for a female s social
and domestic services (Franklin, 2010, p.

School Psychology And The Lgbtq2-S. Community
The Practice of School Psychology and the LGBTQ2 S Community
Students who identify as members of the LGBTQ2 S community may experience academic, social,
and emotional challenges, both within and outside of the walls of school (Harrison Thomas, 2014).
Therefore, as a school psychologist and advocate for students, one should promote for changes in
policies through brief conversations and suggestions with teachers, staff, and administrators; this
process may be effective in shaping the school climate toward acceptance of LGBT youth (Heck,
Flentje, Cochran, 2011, pp. 169 170). However, for a school psychologist to be successful in doing
so, one must strive to be culturally competent. It is for that reason, that a school psychologist must

Net Neutrality Vs Open Internet Essay
Along with consumer advocates and human rights organization, many internet application
companies like Yahoo, Amazon, eBay, Vonage etc. support net neutrality regulation. Google

content and other applications. They further compared the situation to that of the
telecommunication market, where companies are not allowed to control who their customers call

access to cable lines, like the model used for dial up Internet. They also intend to make sure that
the cable companies cannot screen, disrupt or filter Internet content without a court order. This in
turn would allow FCC (Federal Communications Commission) to enforce rules of net neutrality
effectively. Furthermore, Net neutrality advocates argue that allowing cable and
telecommunication to act as gatekeepers i.e. being able to control speed of loading of websites,
as well as letting them to demand a toll on quality of service would create an exploitative
business model and would also slow down innovation in online services. Further, they also argue
that by charging certain sites, ISP s may be able to block those who are unable to pay. Also, the
advocates assert that every content on the Internet must be treated same and must move at the same
speeds. Presently, the order is meant to set a precedent that all ISP s as well as communication
companies cannot impede customers from using their networks the way they desire unless there is

Born in the U.S.A. was a song written and performed by Bruce Springsteen. The song was first
released on June 4, 1984 appearing on the album that conveniently shared the same name with
the song, Born in the U.S.A. The song was originally written and produced by Springsteen in
1982 and was titled Vietnam. However, the song was cut from Bruce Springsteen s album,
Nebraska that was released in 1982 and the song was later renamed. The song was an instant hit
after it s release in 1984, appearing on Billboards Top 100 for 17 weeks straight and being

catchy chorus I was Born in the U.S.A. was often misinterpreted as a patriotic American song,
during a time when U.S. morale was low and American s had nostalgia for the 1950 s (Pompeian).
President Ronald Reagan was the most notable for misinterpreting the lyrics behind Born in The

Metal Vs Studs
Finishing Your Basement: Metal Studs vs Wood Studs
Basement finishing is something that most homeowners have come to embrace and appreciate.
There are only two distinct types of studs that any homeowner can consider when it comes to
choosing the framing materials to use for basement finishing: wood and metal studs. Whether you
choose wood or metal studs, each type come with some advantages and disadvantages.
Considering the fact that there is a debate of metal vs wood studs, we are here to give you a
comprehensive analysis of the pros and cons of using either wood or metal studs as framing
materials. Additionally, we ll give you a brief guide as far as metal stud construction is
concerned. This article focuses on light gauge metal framing widely available in most big box
stores, which is designed exclusively for partition walls. It is also worth noting that it doesn t have
any structural strength and as a result can t be used for supporting walls. My personal experience
stems from using metal frame specifically in my basement renovation. ... Show more content on

Metal seems to be fragile, but after gluing and screwing the drywall, it becomes strong and rigid.
Addition of structural support is possible when wood studs are being used, meaning metal studs do
much better when used for non load bearing walls.
There is also some debate whether or not heavy mirrors and hanging cabinets can be made from
metal. Although there are varying opinions on this matter, my preference is adding wood to walls
where cabinets will be hanged. Additionally, it is better to screw bite into a solid wood rather than
screw tapping into a thin metal. It is also advisable to use wood studs on walls where plumbing
will be run.

Leon Festinger s Report
Leon Festinger constructed experiments to test his theory of irreconcilable ideas. Leon was
curious of how humans would react if prophecy failed. In his first experiment, Festinger
organized multiple cohorts to pose as a believer into a cult that was convinced a flood would take
over their homes. The cult believed a spaceship would come to their rescue on December 21.
Members sold homes, quit jobs, and even left others behind. However, no bizarre rains touched
down that night. What Festinger found, in his infiltration of the cult and in his reading of the
history, was that it is precisely when a belief is disconfirmed that religious groups begin
proselytize, a sort of desperate defense mechanism (Slater 116). This particular observation led

The Bottom Of The Pyramid
The bottom of the pyramid represents the largest, and poorest social economical segment of the
population. Some companies are seeing great opportunity to expand to that market, which is in
reality much larger than previously though. However, some companies think that the challenges
faced to enter that market are not worth the outcome. In this essay, we will analyze the bottom of
the pyramid market, the challenges faced by companies in order to enter this market, and the
opportunities that are offered by this market. Furthermore, I will make recommendations based on
my analysis weather Bell, can and should seek her fortune at the base of the pyramid.
Since the topic of this essay has to do with the BoP market, it is relevant to understand what the
bottom of the pyramid represents. The bottom of the pyramid (BOP) is massive. It represents
about 4 billion of people. Although it is the largest segment, it also represents the world s poorest
citizens. Since the term poor can be very vague, the bottom of the pyramid represents the
population who live with less than $2.50 a day and are excluded from the modernity of our
globalised civilised societies. Countries such as Gambia, Ethiopia, Angola, Pakistan, Afghanistan,
Brazil, China, Tanzania, and Bangladesh have a very high povertyrate.

Hannah Arendt on the Banality of Evil
Hannah Arendt is a German Jewish philosopher, born in 1906 and died in 1975. She studied
philosophy with Martin Heidegger as Professor. Her works deal with the nature of power and
political subjects such as democracy, authority, and totalitarianism. She flew away to France in
1933, when Adolf Hitler became Chancellor in Germany. She flew away from Europe to the
United States after escaping from the concentration camp of Gurs. She became a Professor in New
York city, in which she became an active member of the German Jewish community. In 1963, she

This complete absence of thinking is what attracted the philosopher s interest and that is how she
started to question the problem of the eventual inner connection between the ability or inability to
think and the problem of evil. Hannah Arendt elaborated on the notion of banality of evil through
the case of Eichmann. She argues in Eichmann in Jerusalem that Eichmann, far from being a
monster, was nothing less than a thoughtless bureaucrat, passionate only in his desire to please
his superiors. She describes him in these words: the unthinking functionary capable of enormous
evil who revealed the dark potential of modern bureaucratic men . According to Hannah Arendt,
evil would not come from wicked individuals, but from the nobodies , from those who do not
have the ability to think, and thus cannot tell what is wrong and what is right. As she was
influenced by the sociologist Max Weber, who wrote concerning bureaucracies that It is horrible
to think that the world could one day be filled with nothing but those little cogs, little men
clinging to their jobs and striving towards bigger ones , she elaborates on the danger of
bureaucracy and its possible responsibility when it comes to evil. Bureaucracies assign very
specific tasks to each individual and these specific tasks cannot be seen as right or wrong by the
ones accomplishing them, it is when they are all together that they can be examined this way.
Eichmann was simply obeying the rules,

CARLISLE 28 EATON 20 USED ROSTERS FROM HUDL.COM
Last night my travels took me to Carlisle, Ohio to watch the hometown Indians host the Eaton
Eagles. This was my first trip to Carlisle and it would mark the first time since the 2015 season,
that I have watched the Indians. I would be seeing the Eagles for the first time ever.
I expected a much larger crowd but as many times this season it was not the case, but those who
were there got to see a good competitive game, that was entertaining especially from the defensive
side of things.
The Indians defense would set the tone early in this one, when Daniel Smith teamed up with

Heading into the second quarter this one looked very even, even though the Eagles offense was yet
to soar, while the Indians offense had shown a glimpse of going on the warpath a couple of times.
Just twenty six seconds into the second quarter Moore fumble the ball and scooping it up and
going about fifty six yards for the score for the Eagles was Chip Parker. Parker easily outran the
offense, who looked like a fighter, who had just been tagged by a Ali right cross. The pointafter
kick was missed causing this to stay a 13 7 Eagles lead.
The Indians offense would work the ball down to the Eagles thirty four yard line and from there
Chambers electrified the crowd, with a Archie Griffin like run, back when he was running for the
buckeyes. The point after kick gave the Indians the lead at 14 13, with 5:31left in the half. On the
drive the Eagles defense again had problems tackling and this really led to a lot of extra yards for
the Indians.
With 3:41 it appeared their was pass interference on the Indians receiver, but the ref said the ball
was tipped before the interference happened and this led to a interception by Moore on the pass
thrown by Ryan Venable. This play really seem to change the game and in my way of thinking the
Eagles fought hard but never overcame this call.
Defense was big again, with :27 seconds left in the half, when Moore was taken down by #54(Not

Asian Carp And The New Carp
Over the course of the mid to late 20th century, five species of non native carp fish, collectively
referred to as Asian carp , have been introduced to the United States either for aesthetic purposes,
to supplement game fishing, or to help manage local pest species. Some of these carp species
have escaped into America s waterways and proved to be prolific breeders and voracious feeders,
out hunting and out breeding native species. As with any environmental issue, there exist many
parties who have differing points of contention over this problem and many different solutions have
been proposed to correct it. To resolve this issue will take a comprehensive analysis of the problem
and an examination of the participants involved, their perspectives on Asian carp, and how the
proposed solutions to this issue will affect them. Beginning in the 1830 s, five successive waves
of foreign carp species; grass, common, silver, bighead, and black carp, were introduced to the
United States to help improve the quality of agricultural ponds, but some of them subsequently
escaped into the Midwestern river systems (Koel, 2000, Pg. 1). Of these species, the two most
infamous are silver and bighead carp. Both species are filter feeders, and following their entry into
the river systems in the eighties, they have been competing with native filter feeders for food
(Sampson, 2008, Pg. 483).

College Can Be A Huge Jump From High School
College can be a huge jump from high school for most people in many areas. One of the most
impacted areas includes a student s overall success in college. Many college students may say
that high school was a breeze and claim to have done well by putting forth minimal effort. High
schoolers are use to having a ton of free time, getting good grades without studying outside of the
classroom, and barely having any homework at all. Once they make the transition to college, all of
that changes. Quickly freshmen experience homework piling up and studying consumes more and

A student s college success can be defined as their level of success and fulfillment in academics
and enjoyment of their life in college. There are many contributions that can help a student s
college success as well as many contributions that can diminish it. This paper will be focusing on
two main components that will help blossom a student s success in college. Most people go to
college to learn and gain experience to help guide them in the right direction toward their career
which is why having a successful college life is important no matter how long one attends. While
there are many elements that can help with this, the two big ones that contribute are a student s
involvement in activities outside of class and a proper, healthy diet. The first topic and most
important, is a student s involvement with activities around the campus. This can be anything from
sports, to presenting situations, or just sitting down and talking to a bunch of people. In high school
these are known as extracurricular activities, though the same word may apply in college.
Extracurricular activities provide students with a number of benefits. It can teach them the value of
working together with others to accomplish a task, or teamwork. There are little to no downsides to
joining clubs and if there are, the benefits outweigh the negatives. According to the U.S. News

Pros And Cons Of Homophobia In America
In America, there are laws and policies to protect the working class. Employers can not
discriminate on employees based on race or gender, although sexual orientation is not covered by
such laws. This leaves gay people venerable to discrimination in the work place or the termination
of their job, because of how they choose to express their sexuality. This venerability caused by the
lack of anti discriminationlaws. This puts gaypeople into a situation that is less stable than their
heterosexual counter parts. As long as a person s intimate relationships do not impact work
performance, then a person s relationship choices, gay or not, should not be a concern to the
employer. Homophobia is often based on one s religious belief that gays... Show more content on

Alleviating homophobia in education, would allow for more LGB people to get the education
that is needed to get a secure job. John Iceland, Professor of Sociology and Demography at
Pennsylvania State University, in his book Poverty in America: A Handbook, explores how
inequality in opportunity plays a large role in driving poverty. He explains that in globalization
of trade and sending jobs overseas for cheaper labor, makes less unskilled jobs for people in
America. Iceland explains those who are more likely to lose their jobs are more likely to fall
into poverty. He observes that an uneducated people are having a harder time getting a job, and
higher education is necessary to get a well paying secure job (Iceland). The discrimination
makes it harder for homosexual people to get an education, therefore making it harder for them to
secure a stable job in the current state of the economy. Gay people are very prone to
discrimination. LBT people are more prone to a wage gap caused by lack of opportunity that
makes them more likely to experience poverty. The constant threat of homophobia is a threat to gay
people and put gay people in an unsafe, unstable work and education

How Does Poverty Affect Crime Annotated Bibliography
Ager, A W. Crime and Poverty in 19th Century England: The Economy of Makeshifts., 2014. Print.
This book explores that relationship between crime and poverty from the historical context of 19th
century Britain. The emergence of the criminal underclass in Britain has for a long time been
associated with the rising rates of poverty at the time. Despite this widespread link between crime
and poverty, very few historians and scholars have actually tried to analyze this perception. Only
recently has interest in the issue taken root and many scholars have scrambled to determine whether
this domineering perception was actually true. This book presents one such attempt to understand
the relationship between crime and poverty from a historical perspective. In particular, the authors
scan the causal factors that might have motivated the poor to engage in criminal activity.
Furthermore, the book examines the variation of criminal behavior among the poor in urban areas
and those in rural areas. This book will be used within the current study to bolster the understanding
regarding the various causal factors the mediate the link between crime and poverty as well as
policy implications for addressing such factors.

A Dill Pickle Critical Analysis
A Dill Pickle by Katherine Mansfield represents the women s pursuit of independence through
loneliness. Mansfield captures real life stories, not ones fabricated to appeal to the masses. This
story takes place in a cafГ©, a couple meets again after 6 years apart. Their meeting emphasizes the
women (Vera s) cynical look on loveand her sensitive personality. The man exudes arrogance and
has a way with words. The differences between the two characters highlight the divergence of
their love and the lack of certain personality traits of each character. This unveils one of many
reasons why their relationship would come to an end breaking both of their hearts. Vera doesn t
talk much in the text, instead we dive deep into her inner thoughts and that s where she
expresses her true feelings of the past relationship and unravels her teetering feelings for the
man, each topic he brings up reminds her of an unpleasant memory of him from the past but as
he talks he turns those horrible memories into good ones, convincing Vera to fall back in love
with him. But she was thinking how well she remembered that trick of his the trick of
interrupting her and of how it used to exasperate her six years ago (Mansfield, 16). The fact that
Mansfield chose to have Vera think how it used to exasperate her this shows that it no longer
irritated her by the word choice of used to the man has convinced her that it no longer is a point of
irritation for her but something she now finds endearing.

What Is Kant s Categorical Imperative
In order to evaluate whether one s actions are moral, we use many moral dilemmas. One of them
is Kant s categorical imperative. This essay presents Kant s project of categorical imperative.
Then, I will explain that rulers should appeal to Kant s categorical imperative when making
foreign policy decision. In order to support my point of view, I will give importance to the reasons
of why rulersappeal to categorical imperativewhen making foreign policy, so I have two reasons for
this. One of them is that states depend on each other in economically and politically. Thus, in order
to provide this stability which means that continue to stay among other states, states shouldact

In order to explain the first reason of why rulers should appeal to categorical imperative when
making foreign policy decisions, we can think about the growing trade between the states. States
become more interdependent when trades among various states expand. Interdependence is not
only important economically but also politically because all economic or business activity
depends on political positions of the states. When states trade between each other, they become
mutually dependent on each other s political advantages. Also, world markets are influenced by
politics and state s power in the world markets depends on its foreign policy. So, states should
establish good relations with other states. For this reason, when making foreign policy decisions,
ruler should appeal to categorical imperative. Firstly, rulers actions must be universally valid. If
state s foreign decisions are internally valid, then state cannot benefit from this politically and
economically. For example, if the state decide to change the price of its export goods up without
approval of other states, then states could not sell its goods whose price increase, because other
states want to buy the same goods from another country whose price is cheaper. Second point is
that if state s intention is bad and this kind of intention is understood by other states, this state is
reproached by other states, which have a relation with this state. As a result of

Anne Frank was a young girl who always strived to find the good in people. She always knew

Are Social Networking Sites Good for Our Society? How does social networking sites affect our
society? We all know that social networking sites changed the way we communicate, and many
people are using these sites. As a teenager and a college student, social networking sites has
given me a lot of information and opportunity to socialize and help for my college tests,
communicating with my friends, and many more. Another positive effect of social networking
sites is it providing real time news. According to a website called Pew Research Center who has
experts in statistics, it stated About a quarter of all U.S. adults (26%) get news from two or
more social media sites, up from 15% in 2013 and 18% in 2016. But what are the positive effects
of social networking in our society? The three positive effects of social networking sites are it
provides easy and instant communication, it helps college students, and it help us to find a job
easily. The first positive effect of social networking site is it provides easy and instant
communication. When I was in the Philippines, I was far away with my parents. The only
communication that we had is through social networking sites (ex: Facebook). Social networking

Canada s Economy And The Economy
Canada s economy is currently growing and statistics show the economy is expected to continue
to grow in the following years. In addition, consumer spending has increased and the housing
market conditions have improved. The demand for oil and energy is at an all time high and the
demand is expected to increase through 2017. However, expanded a business into a new market
also comes with high risks and potential losses. Major corporations such as Target have tried to
enter the Canadian market, but ended up failing and losing profits. In this section, I will discuss
economic conditions, business conditions, and risks.
Economic Conditions
Canada is similar to the US in its market oriented economic system, production, and standards of
living. Canada s economy grew steadily from 1993 through 2007; however, due to downturns in
the global financial markets, Canada s economy followed suit. By the end of 2008 s meltdown,
Ottawa experienced its first financial deficit in twelve years. Canada s major banks, however,
emerged from the financial crisis of 2008 09 among the strongest in the world, owing to the
early intervention by the Bank of Canada and the financial sector s tradition of conservation
lending practices and strong capitalization (CIA, 2015). Canada achieved some moderate growth
in 2010 14 and plans to balance the budget by the end of 2015, despite the recent drop in oil
prices. Previous growth in its dealings with the U.S. have made Canada the world s fifth largest oil

The Stages Of Grief By Elisabeth Kubbler Ross And David...
Five Stage of Grief The thought of death and dying for many is just that, a mere thought that lives
in the back of ones mind. However, for many others these thoughts are a painful reality. How
individuals navigate through death and dying is a very personal journey that cannot be easily
predicted. It is important to understand that there is neither a set time line nor right or wrong way
to process the loss of life. The book On Griefand Grieving: Finding the Meaning of Grief Through
the Five Stage Loss by Elisabeth KГјbbler Ross and David Kessler, aims to help individuals
experiencing loss better understand the coping emotions associated with the grieving process
through identifying five common stages of grief.
Denial
KГјbbler Ross and Kessler (2005) described denial in this instance as a symbolic term versus
literal rejection of information. In this case denial may look more like disbelief of shocking
information. Denial is the minds way of protecting itself against painful and shocking thoughts,
feelings, and perceptions and can be experienced by both healthy and sick persons (KГјbbler Ross
Kessler, 2005). The minds rejection of painful and harmful information is a form of avoidance
coping, which allows individuals to integrate cognitively dissonant information at a more
manageable pace (Charles Kamen, 2012). Through denial one may be able to unconsciously
manage their feelings about the given situation.
Impact of Denial Denial can give individuals the ability to let

aspects in an attempt to breathe new life into this age old tale. In 1996, Director Baz Luhrman
took the story and placed it in a modern setting where the two rival families are mafia families.
This sounds like an interesting take on the story and it certainly was, but the movie turned out as a

For one, it remained mostly faithful the original work with some minor and somewhat
humorous changes to better fit the modern setting. The dialogue was even left almost exactly
how it was written by Shakespeare all those years ago, which was amusing at times, but it always
sounded out of place. The acting was by far the best part of the whole movie. Leonardo DiCaprio
as Romeo and Claire Danes as Juliet played their parts to the best of their abilities and the best
moments of the movie were when they were the only two in the scene. The others also played their
parts well and if not for the outdated feel of the dialogue, it would almost seem as though all of it
was something that had actually happened. If you are considering showing this to anyone studying
Romeo and Juliet, you would be better off showing them any other movie. Students will not learn
anything at all about the story by watching this as opposed to any other film adaptation. Although
the movie remains somewhat faithful to the original Romeo and Juliet while adding an interesting

African American man, has been mistaken for a criminal countless times because of his race.
The first time this happened, he scared a young white women when he turned the corner at
night, and she ran off, convinced that he was a mugger, a rapist, or worse. Brent shares
instances of people locking their car doors or crossing the street when he walked by, but he says
he can t blame them, as young black males are drastically overrepresented among the perpetrators
of... violence. He discusses his childhood in Chester, Pennsylvania where there is gang warfare,
street knifings, and murders that many of his friends and family have gone to prison or been
killed over. He mentions two extreme situations in which he is mistaken for a burglar and tells the
story of a journalist mistaken for the killer he was reporting on. Brent Staples makes it clear that
these occurrences are continuous and common, and so he has had to make changes to
accommodate for these terrified white peoplein public places by, for example, whistling classic
music at night. The point he is trying to make with this article is that Caucasians have some
common misconceptions about African Americans, often assuming they are all criminals, even

World War 1 Atmosphere Essay
In the years leading up to WWI, there was an extremely tense atmosphere in whichwhere nations
were all but fighting. A number of factors led to this atmosphere of tension, and ultimately, to
World War Onehe war. MThese factors were militarism combined with the glorification of war, and
a resulting sense of fear that created an atmosphere where war felt inevitable and drove nations to
make alliances.
The combination of militarism and the glorification of war was particularly dangerous, as theyit
created a Europe in which all wanted and prepared for a devastating war. Previously, in Europe,
war had consisted of small conflicts between nations that undoubtedly ended in glory and rewards

This exemplifies the mindset in Europe and in western culture in the 19th to 20th centuries, as it
shows that even though all countries strive for peace and prosperity, there is nothing equal to
winning a war. No matter how great or how profitable a peace is, it would never be as great as
triumph in war. This degree of nationalism that Theodore Roosevelt shows can only be achieved
in war, combined with the fact that Europeans associated war with religion and as a necessary
part of life, led to a very tense atmosphere where war felt inevitable. With all this international
tension, militarism became an increasingly important part of each nation s ideals, and with it, the
military leaders gained power. One example of this is the beginning of Germany s involvement in
WWI, The Kaiser learnt that Britain would remain neutral so long as Germany refrained from
attacking France. (...) He said, We must halt the march to the west. (...) It is impossible, said
General Moltke(...). As in Russia, so in Germany, the military men triumphed. (Roberts, 51). Much

Othello Illusion Vs Reality Essay
Every day we are constantly meeting new people and with meeting new people comes new

are revealed. Illusion verses reality is one of the many themes expressed in Othello by William
Shakespeare. There are many examples shown through the character Othellowhere the
misconception of illusionand reality leads to misfortune. This is displayed when Othello develops
an outrageous jealousy due to Iago manipulating him, or when there s irrelevant hatred created

Due to Iago s perception of Othello being naГЇve, Iago uses his phenomenal understanding of the

carefully able to manipulate Othello s thoughts into thinking Desdemona has been unfaithful
and that it was false love. I called my love false love, but what he said then? (IV, iii, 59) This is
significant because Desdemona is beginning to realize that the love Othello had for her must
have been false she s worried that Othello will leave her. Due to Othello s inability to
differentiate between delusion and reality it s bringing forth disaster leading to their relationship
suffering. Othello being able to trust people easily allowed Iago s words to manipulate him into
making a tremendously poor decision which was killing Desdemona. Put out the light, and then

before he strangles Desdemona which symbolizes Desdemona s fragile life and because he is so

difference between Desdemona s life and a candle s light is that he can put out and relight the

Telecommuting Suggestion Report
The first course of action this tech firm should take is to create a productivity report to analyze the
current state of the company s workforce. It was mentioned that the organization already has fifty

was a large oversight that could have potentially caused a lot of tension between the two groups of

understand the basics of psychological disorders. I have decided to look deeper in psychopathy.
Psychopathy testing has accepted the use of a moral questionnaire, but for a group of people
known for being deceiving, that may not be efficient. The goal of this research is to develop an
activity that identifies psychopaths based on the upper cognitive abilities.
ORIGINAL RESEARCH
Levenson s Self Report Psychopathy Scale (LSRP)
The LSRP is the scale most often used to identify Psychopathy on a large scale. The questionnaire
consists of 26 behavior based question. Ten of the questions look at psychopathic behavior, while
the other 16 look at the internal psychopathic feelings of the individual. Answer choices were on a
1 (strongly disagree) to 4 (strongly agree) scale.
Antisocial Behavior Inventory
The Antisocial Behavior Inventory is a self reported measure that measure delinquency based on 11
specific acts. The survey asks participants if they ever committed the act, when they first committed
the act, and how many time the committed the act in the last 12 months. Seven questions ask about
relatively serious delinquent acts (like taking a car), while 4 questions ask about alcohol and drug
use (like cocaine).
Business Principles
Taken based on the proposal in an article on Psychopathic

Analysis Of The Play A Midsummer Night Dream
This is the first section where I m going to discuss the overview of this play. The message in the
play Chicago was society always want to seek happiness through seeking people s approval, but
this will conclude into the exact opposite, and this was portrayed through the life of Roxie Hart.
I saw the play Chicago on May 4, 2017 at 8 p.m. I was seated center row A seat 106. The cost of
the ticket was approximately $11 since I purchased it in a package with the play A Midsummer
Night Dream which costed me $22 for the set. There were way more people in the audience than
the A Midsummer Night Dream play since the theater was way bigger. The audience were very
into the play as when every time a scene or a song ends, the audience show their... Show more

In my opinion, this is definitely a musical play. All the characters dialogues were through
singing. The characters were basically singing their messages across, and it works. In my
opinion, they spoke in a sort of high pitched voice. They spoke with very high confidence, and I
haven t really noticed a flaw or mess up during the play. No actors in the play really stuttered,
and it seem like they spoke/sang their lines perfectly. This is the third section where I m going to
discuss the director and the performers. In my opinion, all the performers did great from the
main casts to the extras to the background people playing music. I felt like Gabrielle Rochblatt,
the person that played Roxie Hart did a great job with singing and acting. There is a reason why
Gabrielle was given the task to play Roxie Hart which is the main character and basically had the
most line out of any characters. Gabrielle had this charisma when she say her lines or sing. Her
character, Roxie Hart will do something that can make her seem like a villain, but for some reason,
it s hard to dislike her. Yes, it can be because she is also a protagonistcharacter, but I feel part of it
has to do with Gabrielle charismatic performance on stage. Her looks also fit her role as well.
The producers were very smart when choosing her for this role. Gabrielle had the total package. A
lot of times, many people are capable of acting, but it

The Ballot Or The Bullet Essay
The Ballot or The Bullet and Letters from Birmingham Jail are both refutes of social, economic,
and civil injustice in America. The two letters are written by revolutionary activists of civil
rights, Martin Luther King, and Malcom X, both written with in a year of one another. Malcom
X, author of The Ballot or The Bullet is known for being a support of the black nationalist, and
dances on the line of encouraging violence in search for equality. Whereas, Martin Luther, author
of Letters from Birmingham Jail seeks justice through non violent direct action. Although the tone
and style of both letters are contrary to one another, the message is non the less the same, a
pathway to equality through social motivation sparked by a leader. Throughout the semester we
have touched upon many instances for which the legal history of America effects the life of a
black America, especially in We Shall Overcome Alexander Tsesis takes on the task of looking at
civil rights through the lens of legal history . The Ballot or The Bullet displays the political
message that the ballot is freedom, and thus power through the freedom to vote. Malcom X hounds
in on the political idea that the white man preys on the black man for votes, but then allows
filibustering to happen in the Senate so nothing gets passed to promote equality for black
Americans. Alexander writes frequently through the book how skewed politics become for blacks
once their vote is legalized. That although, they can

Parable Of The Sower Octavia Butler Essay
God is Power infinite, irresistible, inexorable, indifferent. And yet, God is Pliable trickster,
teacher, chaos, clay. God exists to be shaped. God is Change. (Butler 25). In Parable of the
Sower Octavia Butler introduces the concept of religion through her characters specifically
Lauren. In a society that is crumbling, religion is seemed to be the only thing striving. The idea
that although society could be falling apart many of the characters either cling to their beliefs,
or shy away from them. Laurens creation of Earthseed proves that in a failing society, the
concept of religion somehow still survives. In the very beginning of the book Lauren begins to
question the idea of God. Since she grew up in a religious setting (her father being a pastor)
much of her religious knowledge comes from the church. However, from a very early start
Lauren has always begun to question the very principles that were taught to her. In present
society, the issues are just beginning. Lauren is in a secluded community, unable to leave
because of the unknown dangers outside the walls. It s no surprise she begins to question the
principles of God. In the book of Job, God says he made everything and he knows everything so
no one has any right to question what he does with any of it. Okay. That works. That Old
Testament God doesn t violate the way things are now. But that God sounds a lot like Zeus a super
powerful man, playing with his toys the way my youngest brothers play with toy

Revolutionary War Tactics
In every major military operation, terrain, troops and weapons often dictate the way the war is
fought. The American Revolutionary War was a prime example of this military strategy. It is often
said that the Patriots use of guerrilla warfare was the reason why the Americans were successful in
defeating the British. However, the Americans employed various tactics both on and off the
battlefield that led to the ultimate defeat of the British. The American Patriots won the
Revolutionary War not through the sole use of guerrilla warfare, but rather through an
amalgamation of guerrilla warfare, linear battle tactics, and the employment of espionage.
There is no doubt that guerrilla warfare played a significant part in the American victory over ...

The small arms that the army did have were often defective and gunpowder was scarce. The
standard musket used by the militia was inefficient in terms of fighting on the larger scale battle
fields. Not only were the bullets completely inaccurate at 300 yards but they were also no longer
lethal at that distance. Additionally, the rifles the militia used were their own and not available to
the Continental Army as a whole. Therefore, the Continental Army began using the Brown Bess ,
the musket with bayonet attachment that the British Army used. They became available as the
Patriots would capture British troops and were also shipped in from European manufacturers.
Although it was highly inaccurate and was very time consuming in terms of reloading,
considering it was used in mass in the linear formation of the ranks and file of the standing
armies, it was highly effective in terms of the volleying of the rounds. At fifty yards, the Brown
Bess would have an eighteen inch variance. However, in linear formations, this variance could
be overcome and injury could still be imposed as soldiers were closely filed together. The musket
weighed approximately 13 pounds and released a large amount of smoke after it was fired.
Therefore, the linear tactics had to be employed to allow for repeated volleys, firing rank by rank,
and thus unleashing more damage at approximately nine rounds per volley. Furthermore, the Brown
Bess had the capability of attaching bayonets, which were also necessary on the battlefield. The
bayonet was inserted down the barrel of the musket, which was imperative for close quarter hand to
hand combat when time did not allow to reload the musket and the enemy was too close. Linear
tactics also allowed Washington s use of artillery, although it was limited. Washington utilized light,
mobile cannons and field artillery to push back the

Certain stars are hired to advertise various products all the time. My friends, actually one in particular I am thinking of, has lots of nice things and goes out with friends regularly. • 6. Non Traditional Families In The 1800s Families in History There are many ways that the idea of the traditional family has changed over the past several centuries. For instance prior to the 19th century family was often considered anyone who lived within a household whether related by blood or not. This included employees and extended family. Per Coontz (2010) The biological family was less sacrosanct, and less sentimentalized, than it would become in the nineteenth century. (p. 35) In society at the time it was socially unacceptable to be separate or not included as part of a family household. Over time, the term family came to encompass the immediate family, a husband, wife and their children. During the late 1800 s through the mid 1900 s there were emerging ideas of family that were not widely accepted as traditional or normal, these included single parent homes with only a Mom or Dad, Stepfamilies and same sex couple and parent households. The emergence of the criminal underclass in Britain has for a long time been associated with the rising rates of poverty at the time. Despite this widespread link between crime and poverty, very few historians and scholars have actually tried to analyze this perception. Only recently has interest in the issue taken root and many scholars have scrambled to determine whether this domineering perception was actually true. This book presents one such attempt to understand the relationship between crime and poverty from a historical perspective. In particular, the authors scan the causal factors that might have motivated the poor to engage in criminal activity. Furthermore, the book examines the variation of criminal behavior among the poor in urban areas and those in rural areas. This book will be used within the current study to bolster the understanding regarding the various causal factors the mediate the link between crime and poverty as well as policy implications for addressing such factors. • 24. A Dill Pickle Critical Analysis A Dill Pickle by Katherine Mansfield represents the women s pursuit of independence through loneliness. Mansfield captures real life stories, not ones fabricated to appeal to the masses. This story takes place in a cafГ©, a couple meets again after 6 years apart. Their meeting emphasizes the women (Vera s) cynical look on loveand her sensitive personality. The man exudes arrogance and has a way with words. The differences between the two characters highlight the divergence of their love and the lack of certain personality traits of each character. This unveils one of many reasons why their relationship would come to an end breaking both of their hearts. Vera doesn t talk much in the text, instead we dive deep into her inner thoughts and that s where she expresses her true feelings of the past relationship and unravels her teetering feelings for the man, each topic he brings up reminds her of an unpleasant memory of him from the past but as he talks he turns those horrible memories into good ones, convincing Vera to fall back in love with him. But she was thinking how well she remembered that trick of his the trick of interrupting her and of how it used to exasperate her six years ago (Mansfield, 16). The fact that Mansfield chose to have Vera think how it used to exasperate her this shows that it no longer irritated her by the word choice of used to the man has convinced her that it no longer is a point of irritation for her but something she now finds endearing. ... This essay presents Kant s project of categorical imperative. Then, I will explain that rulers should appeal to Kant s categorical imperative when making foreign policy decision. In order to support my point of view, I will give importance to the reasons of why rulersappeal to categorical imperativewhen making foreign policy, so I have two reasons for this. One of them is that states depend on each other in economically and politically. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In order to explain the first reason of why rulers should appeal to categorical imperative when making foreign policy decisions, we can think about the growing trade between the states. States become more interdependent when trades among various states expand. Interdependence is not only important economically but also politically because all economic or business activity depends on political positions of the states. When states trade between each other, they become mutually dependent on each other s political advantages. Also, world markets are influenced by politics and state s power in the world markets depends on its foreign policy. So, states should establish good relations with other states. For this reason, when making foreign policy decisions, ruler should appeal to categorical imperative. Firstly, rulers actions must be universally valid. If state s foreign decisions are internally valid, then state cannot benefit from this politically and economically. For example, if the state decide to change the price of its export goods up without approval of other states, then states could not sell its goods whose price increase, because other states want to buy the same goods from another country whose price is cheaper. Second point is that if state s intention is bad and this kind of intention is understood by other states, this state is reproached by other states, which have a relation with this state. Major corporations such as Target have tried to enter the Canadian market, but ended up failing and losing profits. However, for many others these thoughts are a painful reality. How individuals navigate through death and dying is a very personal journey that cannot be easily predicted. It is important to understand that there is neither a set time line nor right or wrong way to process the loss of life. The book On Griefand Grieving: Finding the Meaning of Grief Through the Five Stage Loss by Elisabeth KГјbbler Ross and David Kessler, aims to help individuals experiencing loss better understand the coping emotions associated with the grieving process through identifying five common stages of grief. Denial KГјbbler Ross and Kessler (2005) described denial in this instance as a symbolic term versus literal rejection of information. In this case denial may look more like disbelief of shocking information. Denial is the minds way of protecting itself against painful and shocking thoughts, feelings, and perceptions and can be experienced by both healthy and sick persons (KГјbbler Ross Kessler, 2005). The minds rejection of painful and harmful information is a form of avoidance coping, which allows individuals to integrate cognitively dissonant information at a more manageable pace (Charles Kamen, 2012). Through denial one may be able to unconsciously manage their feelings about the given situation. Impact of Denial Denial can give individuals the ability to let ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The two letters are written by revolutionary activists of civil rights, Martin Luther King, and Malcom X, both written with in a year of one another. Malcom X, author of The Ballot or The Bullet is known for being a support of the black nationalist, and dances on the line of encouraging violence in search for equality. Whereas, Martin Luther, author of Letters from Birmingham Jail seeks justice through non violent direct action. Although the tone and style of both letters are contrary to one another, the message is non the less the same, a pathway to equality through social motivation sparked by a leader. Throughout the semester we have touched upon many instances for which the legal history of America effects the life of a black America, especially in We Shall Overcome Alexander Tsesis takes on the task of looking at civil rights through the lens of legal history . The Ballot or The Bullet displays the political message that the ballot is freedom, and thus power through the freedom to vote. Malcom X hounds in on the political idea that the white man preys on the black man for votes, but then allows filibustering to happen in the Senate so nothing gets passed to promote equality for black Americans. Alexander writes frequently through the book how skewed politics become for blacks once their vote is legalized. That although, they can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Parable Of The Sower Octavia Butler Essay God is Power infinite, irresistible, inexorable, indifferent. And yet, God is Pliable trickster, teacher, chaos, clay. God exists to be shaped. God is Change. (Butler 25). In Parable of the Sower Octavia Butler introduces the concept of religion through her characters specifically Lauren. In a society that is crumbling, religion is seemed to be the only thing striving. The idea that although society could be falling apart many of the characters either cling to their beliefs, or shy away from them. Laurens creation of Earthseed proves that in a failing society, the concept of religion somehow still survives. In the very beginning of the book Lauren begins to question the idea of God. Since she grew up in a religious setting (her father being a pastor) much of her religious knowledge comes from the church. However, from a very early start Lauren has always begun to question the very principles that were taught to her. In present society, the issues are just beginning. Lauren is in a secluded community, unable to leave because of the unknown dangers outside the walls. It s no surprise she begins to question the principles of God. In the book of Job, God says he made everything and he knows everything so no one has any right to question what he does with any of it. Okay. That works. That Old Testament God doesn t violate the way things are now. But that God sounds a lot like Zeus a super powerful man, playing with his toys the way my youngest brothers play with toy ... • 46. Revolutionary War Tactics In every major military operation, terrain, troops and weapons often dictate the way the war is fought. The American Revolutionary War was a prime example of this military strategy. It is often said that the Patriots use of guerrilla warfare was the reason why the Americans were successful in defeating the British. However, the Americans employed various tactics both on and off the battlefield that led to the ultimate defeat of the British. The American Patriots won the Revolutionary War not through the sole use of guerrilla warfare, but rather through an amalgamation of guerrilla warfare, linear battle tactics, and the employment of espionage. There is no doubt that guerrilla warfare played a significant part in the American victory over ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The small arms that the army did have were often defective and gunpowder was scarce. The standard musket used by the militia was inefficient in terms of fighting on the larger scale battle fields. Not only were the bullets completely inaccurate at 300 yards but they were also no longer lethal at that distance. Additionally, the rifles the militia used were their own and not available to the Continental Army as a whole. Therefore, the Continental Army began using the Brown Bess , the musket with bayonet attachment that the British Army used. They became available as the Patriots would capture British troops and were also shipped in from European manufacturers. Although it was highly inaccurate and was very time consuming in terms of reloading, considering it was used in mass in the linear formation of the ranks and file of the standing armies, it was highly effective in terms of the volleying of the rounds. At fifty yards, the Brown Bess would have an eighteen inch variance. However, in linear formations, this variance could be overcome and injury could still be imposed as soldiers were closely filed together. The musket weighed approximately 13 pounds and released a large amount of smoke after it was fired. Therefore, the linear tactics had to be employed to allow for repeated volleys, firing rank by rank, and thus unleashing more damage at approximately nine rounds per volley. Furthermore, the Brown Bess had the capability of attaching bayonets, which were also necessary on the battlefield. The bayonet was inserted down the barrel of the musket, which was imperative for close quarter hand to hand combat when time did not allow to reload the musket and the enemy was too close. Linear tactics also allowed Washington s use of artillery, although it was limited. Washington utilized light, mobile cannons and field artillery to push back the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
