Effects Of Calcium Carbonate
Calcium Carbonate (Tums), helps restore calcium levels in the blood, prevents osteoporosis and bone
demineralization and helps with neuromuscular function. Can also be taken for dyspepsia. It is taken
orally and the drug is distributed widely and excreted in the feces. Adverse effects include,
hypercalcemia, drowsiness, lethargy, nausea and vomiting, decreased appetite, increased thirst and
urination and dysrhythmias. It is not recommended for patients with V fib, metastatic bone disease,
hyperparathyroidism and hypercalcemia. Caution in patients with renal insufficiency and history of
renal calculi (Adams and Urban, 2016, p. 1233). Drug interactions affecting the patient include,

The patient is taking Lasix for its ability to increase urinary output in renal patients with reduced renal
blood flow and for control of hypertension and for its ability decrease the amount of fluid in
intravascular volume, reduce cardiac preload and help treat his acute pulmonary edema (Mayo Clinic,
2017). The mechanism of action for Lasix is, it inhibits reabsorption of sodium, potassium and
chloride cotransporters in the loop of Henle and distal tubules. Lasix causes rapid diuresis, decreasing
vascular volume, increased urinary excretion and decreased cardiac output and blood pressure (Adams
Urban, 2016). The routes that Lasix is supplied are, PO, IV and IM. It is distributed in body tissues. It
is metabolized in incremental amounts by the liver and excreted by the kidneys (Adams Urban, 2016).
The patient is taking 120mg PO/day. The recommended dose is 20 80 mg in one or multiple doses
with a maximum of 600mg/day (Adams Urban, 2016). The patient s dose exceeds the recommended
once daily dose and recommend decreasing the dose or giving in divided doses 6 8 hours apart. Once
the patient s acute pulmonary edema is controlled the dosage should be reduced to prevent
hypokalemia and electrolyte imbalances associated with loop diuretics and renal failure.
Contraindications include, patients with allergies to Sulfonamide antibiotics should not take Lasix.
Concurrent use with NSAIDS decrease the effectiveness.

How Did Gregor Mendel Changed The World Of Genetics
Gregor Mendel was born in Austria of 1822. His parents were mostly farmers where he spent most of
his time outside. He became very interested in plants, trees, and fruits. As Mendel grew older, he
became an Augustinian monk and a botanist. A botanist is a person who studies in the field of plants. (
Early Life 2016 para 3) During this time, Mendel was able to conduct his famous experiment. His
work was not confirmed until the 1900 s when three scientists, Erich Tschermak, Hugo de Vries, and
Carl Correns verified it. This was the beginning of Mendel s experiment that changed the world of
genetics forever ( Gregor Mendel 2003 2016, para 3). Mendel chose to use pea plants for his
experiment because they reproduce quickly, he developed laws ... Show more content on

Our hair color is determined on how our parents hair color is. For example, if both of your parents
were homozygous dominant for brown hair, the probability of your hair color to be brown is one
hundred percent which also makes you homozygous dominant. Yet, if one of the parents were
heterozygous for blonde hair, the child would have a possibly chance to have blonde hair instead of
brown. But in order to figure out why we have similar characteristics as our parents and siblings,
Mendel decided to use a punnett square to see the different offspring. Instead of finding why we have
similar characteristics as our family, Mendel tested this on pea plants instead. He crossed tall and short
pea plants of the parents to see the first generation of children. In order to do this, he used an
abbreviated allele code for tall (TT) and another for short (tt). The punnett square helped give us a
visual picture of what Mendel was doing which supported Mendel s Law of Dominance. In
conclusion, Mendel chose to use pea plants for his experiment because they reproduce quickly, he
developed laws that formed the foundation of modern genetics, and he chose different traits to help
support the idea of his experiment. Mendel s experiment is important because we can see why traits
skip generations and how others are getting discrete traits. His experiment is also important in the
development of inheritance and genetics because

Similarities And Differences In The Princess Bride By...
William Goldman wrote an epic book called The Princess Bride. The Princess Bride tells a story of a
Beautiful lady who sworn not to love again after her true love is presumed dead. The book and the
movie, The Princess Bride, have many interesting similarities and differences. The differences
outnumber the similarities by a long shot.
Like many movies that have been made from books, The Princess Bride did not follow the book
closely. One of the similarities tho is that Buttercup thinks that Westly has died. In the book and in the
movie she finds out by hearing that the ship he was on was captured by the Dread Pirate Robinson
who takes no prisoners. Another similarity is that The Man in Black battles both The Spaniard and the
giant. As in the Book and the movie he fights the Spaniard (Inigo Montoya) and the Giant (Fezzik) in
the same way. One more similarity is that he outsmarts the Sicilian (Vizzini). Just like the book the
movie has the man in Black outsmarting Vizzini by putting the poison in both cups. There are many
more similarities but even then in the similarity, there are differences. ... Show more content on

One of the differences is what s in the water when she jumped in. In the book when she jumped in
Vizzini told her that there were sharks in the water. In the movie tho there are water shrieking eels in
the water with her. Another dissimilarity was before each fighting scene on the cliffs. In the novel
before the fight with Inigo, they went into his background, but in the movie, they did not. Also in the
book that was not in the movie was the background of Fezzik before his fight with the man in black.
One more difference is how it was told. In the book, it is the father of the young boy who basically
just cut and pasted the good parts of the original book and made the story that we have in the book. In
the movie the little boy is sick and the grandfather is reading the good parts of the original book to

Franklin Delano Roosevelt s Role In World War Two
Franklin Roosevelt was a major key In World War 2, for example Franklin Delano Roosevelt was
commonly known as FDR, was an American statesman and political leader who served as the 32nd
President of the United States from 1933 until his death in 1945. His program for relief, recovery, and
reform, known as the New Deal, involved a great expansion of the federal government s role in the
economy. As a dominant leader of the Democratic Party, he built the New Deal Coalition that brought
together and united labor unions, big city machines, white ethnics, African Americans, and rural white
Southerners in support of the party. The Coalition significantly realigned American politics after 1932,

He led Britain s fight against Nazi Germany in World War II. Churchill was a talented orator, giving
many stirring speeches to boost national morale during the war. A close friend of American presidents
Franklin D. Roosevelt and Harry S. Truman, Churchill hoped to join the Americans in building a
postwar order that limited Soviet leader Josef Stalin s ability to dominate European affairs. In January
1943, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill met with President Franklin D. Roosevelt in
Casablanca, Morocco to plan attacks on all war fronts, to invade Sicily and Italy, to send forces to the
Pacific, and to better aid the Soviet Union. Though not at first seeing the threat that Adolf Hitler posed
when he rose to power in 1933, Churchill gradually became a leading advocate for British
rearmament. By 1938, as Germany began controlling its neighbors, Churchill had become a staunch
critic of Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain s policy of appeasement toward the Nazis. On
September 3, 1939, the day that Britain declared war on Germany, Churchill was appointed first lord
of the Admiralty and a member of the war cabinet, and by April 1940, he became chairman of the
Military Coordinating Committee. Later that month, Germany invaded and occupied Norway, a

Essay Military Discipline
Military Discipline
1. General. The word discipline comes from the Latin word disciplīna which means to instruct .
Discipline is a specific form of instruction which develops self control, character, and efficiency.
Military discipline is that mental attitude and state of training which renders obedience instinctive
under all conditions. It is founded upon respect for, and loyalty to properly constituted authority.
While it is developed primarily by military drill, every feature of military life has its effects on
military discipline. It is generally indicated in an individual or unit by smartness of appearance and
action; by cleanliness and neatness of dress, equipment, or quarters; by respect for seniors; and by

Maybe a whole squadron deserted its post. In this case, the court handed down the famous, the ghastly,
sentence of decimation. The tribune called the legion on parade and ordered to the front those who
were guilty of desertion of their ranks. He reprimanded them, called them every name he could think
of. This was not just another sermon. Everyone knew how it was going to end. Now I want each of
you to choose a number, he told them. And by lot one out of every ten men was chosen to pay the
penalty. What penalty? On the tribune s order, the army fell on these men their comrades and clubbed
them to death, mercilessly.
The rest of the guilty men were allowed to live, but possibly they thought death was preferable to the
humiliation they had to suffer then. They were told to quarter themselves outside the camp walls,
where they were unprotected; and they were given rations of barley horse food rather than wheat for
sustenance. Their disgrace would live as long as they did. But it isn t only your severe punishments
that produce right conduct, Polybius told the Romans. That alone wouldn t make men brave. You

The Scottish And Scottish Government
Modern Scottish politics was established in 1999 , then called the Scottish Executive rather than the
Scottish Government. The current Scottish Government has control over a certain number of devolved
matters whilst Westminster in England retains control of decisions affecting the whole of the United
Kingdom. This modern day form of Scottish politics was very much influenced by the events and state
of a post war Britain in which many people across Scotland wanted change and more independence
from the London centric Westminster. A number of the aspects of the modern Scottish devolved
political system intentionally vary from certain ones of Westminster in an effort to be more
representative of the Scottish people and will be analysed and evaluated in this essay.
There are many key developments in the process which led to the establishment of a devolved Scottish
Government. In the 1960s in Scotland constitutional issues noticeable and important to many people
and following the 1979 Referendum in which the Yes campaign lost due to the Cunninghame
amendment that required at least forty percent of the electorate to vote yes , the Scottish National
Party (SNP) took nearly a decade to recover . In the 1980s the case for Scottish devolution was based
on the idea that Home Rule would be able to solve the democratic deficit and also prevent the
Westminster government from imposing itself and decisions on Scotland . It was also seen as way of
Scotland rejecting and going against

The Presidential Election Of 1968 Essay
America has always been a proud nation full of nationalism as well. The people, looked up to their
government and their presidents for what to do during the dark days of depression, war, economic
shutdown, and communism. The people knew who their enemies were or at least had a description.
America never truly had a reason to doubt their leaders, those were the people who lead the nation to
victory. Then there was a blow, a crisis that flipped everyone s views and values upside down. There
was an enemy that needed to be defeated, needed to , for this moment was that the so called enemy
was the president himself, Richard Nixon.
He was first seen in the presidential seen was in the 1960 elections against John F. Kennedy, which he
lost. Though he was not discourage and ran again during the presidential election of 1968. After
already losing one election, Nixon was worried about the results, but this time, luck and the electoral
college was on his side this time and won with pretty eye opening results. It wasn t until his re election
where Nixon was really worried, he didn t know what to think about the results, but the only thing he
was sure was that he was going to lose and without doing anything, he was going to watch how bad he
was going to lose the presidency again. He already lost once and he wasn t going to lose another time,
especially to George McGovern. Well, he won. Nixon won in a victorious landslide victory, the
biggest victory in American history.[1] In response

Comparing the Narrative and Formal Devices of ChungKing...
Comparing the Narrative and Formal Devices of ChungKing Express and A Bout de Souffle
Wong Kar Wai s movie ChungKing Express bears many similarities to Godard s A Bout de Souffle .
To start with, Wai employs a number of cinematic techniques, obviously derived from the French New
Wave, such as for example the jump cut which is evidently taken from Godard s film. His use of the
Godard ian jump cut seamlessly blends temporally exclusive scenes together, making the passage of
time unnoticeable. Other Godard ian touches include the many shots of clocks, which remind the
viewer that despite the protagonist s fixation on the past, time continues to move on and that moments

She wears the same type of cloths, has the same hair do and her rather eccentric attitude to life also
corresponds to that of her French counterpart.
The primary function of the traditional Hong Kong film industry was to churn out movies aimed at the
general public and make sure that they bring in a profit. This is much like the French film industry
was before the emergence of the French New Wave. However Wai s ChungKing Express was clearly
not aimed at the masses, but rather only at the people who have developed a real understanding and
appreciation for the art of film. Godard s A Bout de Souffle was also a film which was made to rebel
against the old style of French cinema and break the conventions of the film industry. In this way, both
of the film directors have something in common with each other.
Much of Wai s work has included themes of time passing and how every human emotion, every
material object or specifically tinned food expires. This reoccurring matter isn t simply an accident but
it carries a very significant political message. At the time that Wai made ChungKing Express , Hong
Kong was pending to be handed over from the British democratic powers, to the Chinese communist
government. This period was very turbulent for the Hong Kong people as they were in anticipation of
a great change, but they didn t know whether it would be negative or positive.

The Movie The Blind Side
1 Explain the potential significance of Shirley Temple to The Blind Side.
The relationship between Michael and SJ was very similar to the idea that a small white child had
more authority that a grown black man, that was seen heavily in the Shirley Temple films. This film
portrayed Michael as an unintelligent, little wimp in a way, because of how SJ and Leigh Anne were
the only people to get him to play to his ability. I read an article after watching the film when it first
came out talking about how the real Michael Oher was not happy how they portrayed him in the film.
Like said before they made him seem like a wimp and didn t know anything about football, but he said
that was one of the things he knew a lot about already. Hollywood changed the story to fit the
underdog mentality the America love to root for, but in reality this story wasn t as over dramatic as the
film made it out to be. Making the film portray SJ as the dominate figure when it came to football
knowledge made Michael seem even more inferior to the white characters. The part where SJ and
Michael where training and at the end Michael fell to his knees making him the same height as SJ and
then them fist bumping, showed the physical levels that were being portrayed through film. Michael,
even though he was much older and larger than him, was still on the level in terms of privilege and
status.

Compare And Contrast Porter s Five Forces And...
The global pharmaceutical industry is one that is seen to be riddled with misunderstanding and
confusion; however, many of the questions emerging companies have can be answered by a thorough
analysis of this industry and how these companies compare to one another on many different fronts.
Analyzing the global pharmaceutical industry can bring to light how we in the United States compare
on the grounds of industry attractiveness to our global counterparts.
Looking at Porter s Five Forces model and how it fits into the global pharmaceutical industry can start
to explain the true attractiveness of the industry. Buyer power tends to be the strongest force in this
industry due to the price control policies in state and private sectors that are a large determinant when
it comes to likeliness to purchase. Another issue is that medical professionals wield a significant
amount of power in what drugs are available to consumers or not. It is also to important to note that
entry barriers may include many governmental regulatory issues that will vary from country to
country and largely affect if specific drugs are allowed to be sold or not. Rivalry in the industry is also
very strong due to the strong competition between larger firms and smaller generic companies fighting
for the customer s loyalty. Supplier power is also important to note while looking at this industry
because the nature of the products being created require a lot of extra manufacturing and time. Due to

smoke ventilation Essay
Smoke Ventilation
Firefighters, lately defined as heroes, have a very exciting job and do some pretty amazing things. My
main interests however, is how firefighters ventilate heat and smoke from a structure fire. What pieces
of equipment do they use? How do they use those pieces of equipment? Why ventilation is so
important and why do they take certain precautions when using their equipment?
Growing up in the woods has made my life a lot more different than an average city slicker. You see, I

about fire is that it grows very fast and it is very dangerous, but that never ... Show more content on

Ventilation removes heated air, smoke and gasses and replaces those with cooler air to help fight a
fire. In more simple terms it takes out bad air and brings in good air. If a firefighter can do that then
they have the ability to enter the structure to try and fight the fire from the inside rather from the out
side. There is a lot of good things the Smoke Ventilation does which helps firefighters to gain access
into a structure.
Ventilation is one of the first things that a firefighter will do when dealing with a structure fire. It is the
beginning step to try and control a fire. There are four different kinds of ventilation, vertical,
horizontal, natural and forced. Depending on the situation firefighters determine which way they are
going to approach the structure fire. Planning the ventilation process is very important when dealing
with safety, to the best of my knowledge. Something can and may go wrong if ventilation is not
planned and coordinated correctly.
Ventilation plays a big part in strategy and tactics and is something that firefighters always consider
when they have to deal with a structure fire or any type of situation that involves smoke, heat and gas.
When ventilation is done correctly it has many advantages that help firefighters to control the
situation. The

Solar cells, or photovoltaic cells, transform light, usually sunlight, into electric current. Few power
generation technologies are as clean as photovoltaics (PV). Photovoltaic comes from the words photo
meaning light and volt, a measurement of electricity. Sometimes photovoltaic cells are called PV cells
or solar cells for short. As it silently generates electricity, PV produces no air pollution or hazardous
waste. It doesn t require liquid or gaseous fuels to be transported or combusted as sunlight is free and
abundant. Because PV systems burn no fuel and have no moving parts, they are clean and silent,
producing no atmospheric emissions or greenhouse gases to cause detrimental effects on our water,
air, and soil. Compared with electricity generated from fossil fuels, each PV produced kilowatt

Fast Food Franchising Company And Corporation
McDonald s is a very well known fast food franchising company and corporation. The company was
first established in 1940 by brothers Richard and Maurice McDonald. Surprisingly the restaurant was
not named McDonalds from the beginning, it was actually named McDonald s Bar B Q and it held
many menu items, but mostly barbecue. After eight years of selling their menu, the brothers noticed
hamburgers were their bestselling item. It was at that time, in 1948, that the McDonald brothers closed
down their small car hop to open a burger stand with a streamlined system. They renamed their burger
stand McDonalds and that became the start of its journey to become the biggest global fast food chain.

McDonald s corporate office and global headquarters is located in Oak Brook, Illinois. The company

the fast food industry had total revenue of 190.1 billion dollars. In the same year McDonald s had total

order to understand the company s involvement in real estate, one must go back to the company s
beginnings. In 1956 Ray Kroc was having a hard time making his franchised restaurants profitable, he
was not able to acquire the funds to pay both the building of the restaurant and to pay for the land the
restaurants would be built on. It was only after Harry J Sonneborn was hired and approached to Kroc

Analysis Of `` A New Light ``
The latter part of our semester has been centered around Black feminists. Their work has been focused
on the ways in which the intersectionality of gender and sexuality influence the lives of women who
live under systems of oppression in the United States. These systems that deeply affect the way bodies
of color, Black women very specifically, are able to conduct their lives. Black women in particular, are
vulnerable to these systems in a way unlike any other body in America. Thinking back on the writings
of Beth E. Richie, Angela Davis, and Audre Lord, I now see Assata Shakur s Affirmation in a new
light. Affirmation is a poem that speaks to the pain and suffering Black bodies have endured, and even
through all of this pain, it speaks of optimism. I argue, that through the lens of Black feminism, we
can re examine many organizations and institutions in a way that can be truly be more inclusive of
people of all walks of life. If systems were created with regard for the most targeted groups of people
and not just the majority , we may truly see inclusive settings and we can benefit from the membership
of people from different races, class, gender identity, sexual orientation and age in these institutions.
In her autobiography, Assata Shakur said It is our duty to fight for our freedom. It is our duty to win.
We must love each other and support each other. We have nothing to lose but our chains. This leads
right into what I believe Affirmation is about. What I first

Lawless (2012) This movie is set in the 1930 s; around this time in history the Great Depression and
the prohibition era. The setting in this movie is in a small hick town of Franklin County, Virginia;
when people had a very simple way of living. The Great Depression was period in time following
World War II; it was the longest downfall of the American government in recorded history. The
prohibition era was a nationwide ban on the production, consumption, and vending of alcohol; mainly
moonshine. This caused quite a bit of chaos in the states especially the ones in the west who were

The Bill of Rights meant a lot to people because it gave them their civil liberties; our book defines
civil liberties as: basic political freedoms that protect citizens from governmental abuse of power (90).

Franklin County broke those rights by not caring what he had to do to bust these bootleggers.
However, all he had to do was get a warrant and then what he came to do would be perfectly

Carter Aarestad Research Papers
Carter Aarestad was born on May 24, 1996 into something he would do for the rest of his life;
farming. Farming may sound pretty simple, but deep down there are a lot of things a farmer does.
Before you can become a farmer, you have to learn how to farm. There are three main things you need
to learn. You need to learn how to plant, spray, and harvest. Carter started learning when he was really
young. He started out by riding in the combines, helping out without being asked, and learning about
being responsible.
It all started when Carter was still in diapers, his dad would bring him out into the field and he would
ride with him in the combines. There were times where he would get really tired and pass out by his
dad s feet while he watched the rows go into the header. It ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Carter had to learn how to properly mix each chemical for each crop. In order for Carter to drive the
sprayer, he first needed to learn how to operate it.To operate the sprayer you need to make sure you re
in the right field so you don t spray the wrong crop, that you re using the right chemical, and you have
to make sure the weather conditions are right. The crop can not have just been rained on and there can
t be any wind. It needs to be a nice, calm day.
After learning all the basics, Carter is finally ready to take care of his own fields, and his own house.
Knowing more about plants helps him grow his own garden. When it comes to weeds in his yard he
knows what to use in order to kill them. So now that he is able to do all of these things properly he can
be an official hired man of the farm. He also has the ability to teach others how to farm, not to
mention the degree of Farm Management he will get at college he will learn even more. Farming may
be hard, but with a lot of experience and learning you can become a professional in just a couple of

Nuclear Energy And Its Effects
1. Background
Nuclear energy can be produced by fission, by splitting a nucleus into smaller products, (precisely
equal parts). These products are equal to half of the original mass. In the process of nuclear fission,
energy and neutrons will be emitted. Along with the emission of neutrons, also during the process of
fission, a large amount of a product s energy is released.
Every day we are surrounded by so much radiation however, only some radiation can be harmful to
us. Radiation such as microwaves, radio waves, and infrared are classes as non ionizing and are not a
threat to humans. Radiation classed as Ionizing radiation is most definitely harmful to us because it

They also have a less powerful ionizing rate compared to alpha particles.
Gamma rays are energy, also known as electromagnetic radiation. They have no charge or mass. They
move through the air extremely quickly (at the speed of light) and to ionize them, they need to directly
hit the nucleus of an atom. This suggests that gamma rays have a very low ionizing rate and can travel
much t=further through the air compared to alpha and beta particles.
Nuclear fuelled power plants are very similar to fossil fuelled power pants, in which they both turn
water into steam in order to control the turbine generators that produce energy; the only difference is
the source of heat. At nuclear power plants, a nuclear reactor produces and controls the amount of
energy that is released when atoms of Uranium split, which is called fission. The heat that is used to
make this steam is created by this form of fission. Uranium fuelled nuclear power plants are a clean
and efficient way of boiling water to produce the steam that is used to operate the turbine generators
within the power plant.
Figure 1 shows the equation for the nuclear fission of uranium 235.
2. Discussion
Even though we use Nuclear energy to give places electricity, Nuclear energy is used in many more
things than just in the production of electricity. Such as; Hospitals, schools, households or business ,
Nuclear Radiation can be used to treat heavy medical

Anterior Cruciate Ligament Injury Analysis
The injury I chose to write about in this week s forum is anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) sprain. You
will commonly see an ACL sprain in athletes associated with contact sports that require them come to
an abrupt stop and pivot.
The knee joint is a hinge joint that connects the femur to tibia. The anterior muscles of the quadriceps
and the posterior muscles of the hamstrings help stabilize the knee joint (Prentice Bobo Benson,
2014). The ACL consists of long rope like bands that fasten bones together to keep the knee stable.
The ACL is one of four ligaments that stabilize the knee, and it is one of the most injured ligament in
the knee. The medial and collateral ligaments run along the outside of the knee and prevent the knee
from shifting side to side, and the anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments are located inside the knee
and prevent the knee from shifting forward and backward (Prentice Bobo Benson, 2014). All these
muscles and ligaments work together to keep our knee stabilized ... Show more content on

The ACL runs through the narrow femoral notch as it attaches the femur and tibia. The femoral notch
is the space in the knee created by the femoral condyles (Prentice Bobo Benson, 2014). The femoral
condyles make contact with the tibial plateau of the knee. The narrow femoral notch will decrease
with every step through normal daily activities. When the leg is hyperextended while simultaneously
pivoting space is lost and the ACL gets pinched between bones (Prentice Bobo Benson, 2014).
Depending on the amount of space in the narrow femoral notch and how much forced placed on the
ACL will depend on the severity of the injury (Prentice Bobo Benson, 2014). ACL injuries fall in to
one of three categories. Depending on the grade of the sprain depends on what type of treatment is
needed, and how long it takes the injury to heal. Knee sprains can last up to12 months to

The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow Romanticism Analysis
How does an author or their work get placed into an overall category theme such as Romanticism? Is
it based solely on the time period for which the author is published or is it because of the style of their
work? The reason for this puzzling question is because I originally did not understand how The
Legend of Sleepy Hollow would fit into the Romanticism period. The Legend of Sleepy Hollow
contains suspense, a ghost story and a heroine with conflict but my previous understanding of
Romanticism was that the author or the works associated with it focused on a longing for love and
grand experiences in life. Much to my dismay, I could not have been further from the truth. The
romantic movement occurred in the 1800 and 1900 s. There may be some confusion or discord on an
exact definition but the overall movement focused on the individual more than society, an individual s
imagination and feelings (Romanticism), and ideal perspective on nature, conflict between good and
evil and some would include the element of the supernatural (Dincer 218). The Legend of Sleepy
Hollow, written by Washington Irving, fits nicely into the Romanticism period due to its eloquent
descriptions and detail to the nature around the village, the attention and focus on the main character
and the addition of ghost stories and superstitions. These pieces come together to build a story of
conflict and adventure. To further describe how all of the pieces fit together, we must first begin with
the author.

Budget and Avis are both subsidiaries of Cendant Corp. who bought both companies separately.
Although both Avis and Budget were part of Cendant by the end of the year 2002 they operate as
separate companies and maintain distinct brand identities. Avis positions itself as a business friendly
rental car company while Budget tries to own the leisure segment. The two brands together operate
over 6,000 outlets in the Americas, Australia, New Zealand and the Caribbean. Each rental car
company maintains separate advertising campaigns, websites and counters, while combining some
back office operations to reduce costs. Hertz was a wholly owned subsidiary of the Ford Motor
Company until it was sold in September 2005 to a private equity firm for $15 billion. Hertz dominates
the airport rental car market, operating approximately 350 sites in the United States. The company
offers customers high quality vehicles and premium service. It derives the bulk of its sales and profits
from rentals in the United States. It considers Avis to be a key competitor. Hertz offers its customers
several key features including the low cost Hertz #1 Club Gold program which provides an expedited
rental service to members worldwide. Also, Hertz offers a Prestige Collection brand, which offers
customers the opportunity to rent from a pool of high end performance cars, including Jaguar, Land
Rover, Lincoln and Volvo.

The Use Of Personification In Daffodils By William Wordsworth
The poem Daffodils by William Wordsworth was written in 1804. It is about a time when Wordsworth
himself went walking and found a group of daffodils. Through the use of similes, personification and
alliteration, Wordsworth shows how his emotions changed after seeing the beautiful daffodils.
Wordsworth starts of the poem in a sad and depressed mood. He is not happy as he is walking alone
without any purpose. Nothing around him seems beautiful to him, and he seems lonely and sad. To
show this mood, Wordsworth uses a simile. We see this in the first line when he writes, I wandered
lonely as a cloud . Wordsworth is comparing himself to a cloud, something that floats in the air. By

Wordsworth is happy as he has seen the daffodils and he is amazed by their beauty. Suddenly he is no
longer alone as he feels happy with the presence of these golden flowers. To show his emotion change,
Wordsworth uses personification. This is shown in the third line where he writes, When all at once I
saws a crowd, a host of golden daffodils. Wordsworth is personifying the daffodils by saying that they
are standing in a crowd like an army. This is a description appropriate for humans, but flowers to not
stand in crowds. By using personification, Wordsworth shows that there a lot of daffodils that are
standing together like an army full of soldiers. This also shows that they are standing very noticeable
and catch the attention of Wordsworth. Personification is used further in the poem to show how
Wordsworth is now using happy words to describe the daffodils. In the 6th line he writes, Fluttering
and dancing in the breeze . This is not only an use of personification, but also of assonance and
internal rhyme. These literary devices emphasize that the flowers like humans, dancing and fluttering
showing their beauty and elegance. These are also very happy words showing that Wordsworth s
opinion has completely

Tibial Plateau Fracture Research Paper
Tibial Plateau Fracture With Rehab
A tibial plateau fracture is a break in the top of the bone that forms the bottom of the knee joint (tibia
or shin bone). The lower end of the thigh bone (femur) forms the upper surface of the knee joint. The
top of the tibia has a flat, smooth surface (tibial plateau). This part of the shin bone is made of softer
bone than the end of the femur bone. If a strong force pushes the femur down into the tibial plateau,
the tibial plateau can collapse or break away at the edges.
Two types of fractures can occur:
A nondisplaced fracture means that the broken piece or pieces of your tibial plateau have not moved

Offred And Ofglen Aids In The Handmaid s Tale
This particular discussion between Offred and Ofglen aids immensely in the development of the
character of the latter. Ofglen, who had previously, seemingly been a very pious handmaid, devoted to
the culture of the Republic of Gilead develops into a mutinous member of a rebel group within Gilead.
It also helps the reader in envisioning the setting of the novel. Ofglen speaks of mikes which, the
reader can only assume, are placed throughout the homes, businesses and streets of Gilead to
investigate for non believers . Additionally, the passage aids the reader in discovering that few people
of Gilead are actual believers, as Ofglen says there are more like her, that defy Gilead s beliefs.

The Battle Of Wills Between Rainey And Sturdyvant, The...
When it comes to themes, the main question in the play is whether the band will complete the
recording session despite conflicts among various band members and the power struggles between
Rainey and Sturdyvant, the white owner of the recording studio. The battle of wills between Rainey
and Sturdyvant echoes the historical battle between capitalists and workers; only in this case, Rainey
holds on to the goods (her music) that she produces until she gets what she wants from the white
producer. It is only after her demands are met and she and her band members are paid that Rainey
signs off on the contract. The power struggle between Levee and the other band members over whose
version of Ma Rainey s Black Bottom is recorded reflects a generational conflict defined by different
attitudes towards music. Rainey and the band represent the older generation, preferring to play the
song as they always have. Levee, the youngest band member, represents the new and ever changing
generation of musicians who seeks a more improvisatory and jazz like version. The theme of power is
also established through the examination of the relationship between black artists and the world of
mass communications in the early twentieth century. This relationship mirrors the position of black
people in the society at large a society dominated by white racism. Wilson establishes this early in the
play through a series of musical imagery and idiomatic language, in which he uses both the style

  • 4. How Did Gregor Mendel Changed The World Of Genetics Gregor Mendel was born in Austria of 1822. His parents were mostly farmers where he spent most of his time outside. He became very interested in plants, trees, and fruits. As Mendel grew older, he became an Augustinian monk and a botanist. A botanist is a person who studies in the field of plants. ( Early Life 2016 para 3) During this time, Mendel was able to conduct his famous experiment. His work was not confirmed until the 1900 s when three scientists, Erich Tschermak, Hugo de Vries, and Carl Correns verified it. This was the beginning of Mendel s experiment that changed the world of genetics forever ( Gregor Mendel 2003 2016, para 3). Mendel chose to use pea plants for his experiment because they reproduce quickly, he developed laws ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Our hair color is determined on how our parents hair color is. For example, if both of your parents were homozygous dominant for brown hair, the probability of your hair color to be brown is one hundred percent which also makes you homozygous dominant. Yet, if one of the parents were heterozygous for blonde hair, the child would have a possibly chance to have blonde hair instead of brown. But in order to figure out why we have similar characteristics as our parents and siblings, Mendel decided to use a punnett square to see the different offspring. Instead of finding why we have similar characteristics as our family, Mendel tested this on pea plants instead. He crossed tall and short pea plants of the parents to see the first generation of children. In order to do this, he used an abbreviated allele code for tall (TT) and another for short (tt). The punnett square helped give us a visual picture of what Mendel was doing which supported Mendel s Law of Dominance. In conclusion, Mendel chose to use pea plants for his experiment because they reproduce quickly, he developed laws that formed the foundation of modern genetics, and he chose different traits to help support the idea of his experiment. Mendel s experiment is important because we can see why traits skip generations and how others are getting discrete traits. His experiment is also important in the development of inheritance and genetics because ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Similarities And Differences In The Princess Bride By... William Goldman wrote an epic book called The Princess Bride. The Princess Bride tells a story of a Beautiful lady who sworn not to love again after her true love is presumed dead. The book and the movie, The Princess Bride, have many interesting similarities and differences. The differences outnumber the similarities by a long shot. Like many movies that have been made from books, The Princess Bride did not follow the book closely. One of the similarities tho is that Buttercup thinks that Westly has died. In the book and in the movie she finds out by hearing that the ship he was on was captured by the Dread Pirate Robinson who takes no prisoners. Another similarity is that The Man in Black battles both The Spaniard and the giant. As in the Book and the movie he fights the Spaniard (Inigo Montoya) and the Giant (Fezzik) in the same way. One more similarity is that he outsmarts the Sicilian (Vizzini). Just like the book the movie has the man in Black outsmarting Vizzini by putting the poison in both cups. There are many more similarities but even then in the similarity, there are differences. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the differences is what s in the water when she jumped in. In the book when she jumped in Vizzini told her that there were sharks in the water. In the movie tho there are water shrieking eels in the water with her. Another dissimilarity was before each fighting scene on the cliffs. In the novel before the fight with Inigo, they went into his background, but in the movie, they did not. Also in the book that was not in the movie was the background of Fezzik before his fight with the man in black. One more difference is how it was told. In the book, it is the father of the young boy who basically just cut and pasted the good parts of the original book and made the story that we have in the book. In the movie the little boy is sick and the grandfather is reading the good parts of the original book to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He led Britain s fight against Nazi Germany in World War II. Churchill was a talented orator, giving many stirring speeches to boost national morale during the war. A close friend of American presidents Franklin D. Roosevelt and Harry S. Truman, Churchill hoped to join the Americans in building a postwar order that limited Soviet leader Josef Stalin s ability to dominate European affairs. In January 1943, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill met with President Franklin D. Roosevelt in Casablanca, Morocco to plan attacks on all war fronts, to invade Sicily and Italy, to send forces to the Pacific, and to better aid the Soviet Union. Though not at first seeing the threat that Adolf Hitler posed when he rose to power in 1933, Churchill gradually became a leading advocate for British rearmament. By 1938, as Germany began controlling its neighbors, Churchill had become a staunch critic of Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain s policy of appeasement toward the Nazis. On September 3, 1939, the day that Britain declared war on Germany, Churchill was appointed first lord of the Admiralty and a member of the war cabinet, and by April 1940, he became chairman of the Military Coordinating Committee. • 7. Essay Military Discipline Military Discipline 1. General. The word discipline comes from the Latin word disciplīna which means to instruct . Discipline is a specific form of instruction which develops self control, character, and efficiency. Military discipline is that mental attitude and state of training which renders obedience instinctive under all conditions. It is founded upon respect for, and loyalty to properly constituted authority. While it is developed primarily by military drill, every feature of military life has its effects on military discipline. It is generally indicated in an individual or unit by smartness of appearance and action; by cleanliness and neatness of dress, equipment, or quarters; by respect for seniors; and by prompt and cheerful ... The tribune called the legion on parade and ordered to the front those who were guilty of desertion of their ranks. He reprimanded them, called them every name he could think of. This was not just another sermon. Everyone knew how it was going to end. Now I want each of you to choose a number, he told them. And by lot one out of every ten men was chosen to pay the penalty. What penalty? On the tribune s order, the army fell on these men their comrades and clubbed them to death, mercilessly. The rest of the guilty men were allowed to live, but possibly they thought death was preferable to the humiliation they had to suffer then. They were told to quarter themselves outside the camp walls, where they were unprotected; and they were given rations of barley horse food rather than wheat for sustenance. Their disgrace would live as long as they did. But it isn t only your severe punishments that produce right conduct, Polybius told the Romans. That alone wouldn t make men brave. • 8. The Scottish And Scottish Government Modern Scottish politics was established in 1999 , then called the Scottish Executive rather than the Scottish Government. The current Scottish Government has control over a certain number of devolved matters whilst Westminster in England retains control of decisions affecting the whole of the United Kingdom. This modern day form of Scottish politics was very much influenced by the events and state of a post war Britain in which many people across Scotland wanted change and more independence from the London centric Westminster. A number of the aspects of the modern Scottish devolved political system intentionally vary from certain ones of Westminster in an effort to be more representative of the Scottish people and will be analysed and evaluated in this essay. There are many key developments in the process which led to the establishment of a devolved Scottish Government. In the 1960s in Scotland constitutional issues noticeable and important to many people and following the 1979 Referendum in which the Yes campaign lost due to the Cunninghame amendment that required at least forty percent of the electorate to vote yes , the Scottish National Party (SNP) took nearly a decade to recover . The people, looked up to their government and their presidents for what to do during the dark days of depression, war, economic shutdown, and communism. The people knew who their enemies were or at least had a description. America never truly had a reason to doubt their leaders, those were the people who lead the nation to victory. Then there was a blow, a crisis that flipped everyone s views and values upside down. There was an enemy that needed to be defeated, needed to , for this moment was that the so called enemy was the president himself, Richard Nixon. He was first seen in the presidential seen was in the 1960 elections against John F. Kennedy, which he lost. Though he was not discourage and ran again during the presidential election of 1968. After already losing one election, Nixon was worried about the results, but this time, luck and the electoral college was on his side this time and won with pretty eye opening results. It wasn t until his re election where Nixon was really worried, he didn t know what to think about the results, but the only thing he was sure was that he was going to lose and without doing anything, he was going to watch how bad he was going to lose the presidency again. He already lost once and he wasn t going to lose another time, especially to George McGovern. Well, he won. • 11. Comparing the Narrative and Formal Devices of ChungKing... Comparing the Narrative and Formal Devices of ChungKing Express and A Bout de Souffle Wong Kar Wai s movie ChungKing Express bears many similarities to Godard s A Bout de Souffle . To start with, Wai employs a number of cinematic techniques, obviously derived from the French New Wave, such as for example the jump cut which is evidently taken from Godard s film. His use of the Godard ian jump cut seamlessly blends temporally exclusive scenes together, making the passage of time unnoticeable. Other Godard ian touches include the many shots of clocks, which remind the viewer that despite the protagonist s fixation on the past, time continues to move on and that moments in the present are ... The primary function of the traditional Hong Kong film industry was to churn out movies aimed at the general public and make sure that they bring in a profit. This is much like the French film industry was before the emergence of the French New Wave. However Wai s ChungKing Express was clearly not aimed at the masses, but rather only at the people who have developed a real understanding and appreciation for the art of film. Godard s A Bout de Souffle was also a film which was made to rebel against the old style of French cinema and break the conventions of the film industry. In this way, both of the film directors have something in common with each other. Much of Wai s work has included themes of time passing and how every human emotion, every material object or specifically tinned food expires. This reoccurring matter isn t simply an accident but it carries a very significant political message. At the time that Wai made ChungKing Express , Hong Kong was pending to be handed over from the British democratic powers, to the Chinese communist government. This period was very turbulent for the Hong Kong people as they were in anticipation of a great change, but they didn t know whether it would be negative or positive. ... • 14. The Movie The Blind Side 1 Explain the potential significance of Shirley Temple to The Blind Side. The relationship between Michael and SJ was very similar to the idea that a small white child had more authority that a grown black man, that was seen heavily in the Shirley Temple films. This film portrayed Michael as an unintelligent, little wimp in a way, because of how SJ and Leigh Anne were the only people to get him to play to his ability. I read an article after watching the film when it first came out talking about how the real Michael Oher was not happy how they portrayed him in the film. Like said before they made him seem like a wimp and didn t know anything about football, but he said that was one of the things he knew a lot about already. Hollywood changed the story to fit the underdog mentality the America love to root for, but in reality this story wasn t as over dramatic as the film made it out to be. Making the film portray SJ as the dominate figure when it came to football knowledge made Michael seem even more inferior to the white characters. The part where SJ and Michael where training and at the end Michael fell to his knees making him the same height as SJ and then them fist bumping, showed the physical levels that were being portrayed through film. Michael, even though he was much older and larger than him, was still on the level in terms of privilege and status. 2 Does this film suggest progress, stagnation or regression in the projection of African American images in ... The global pharmaceutical industry is one that is seen to be riddled with misunderstanding and confusion; however, many of the questions emerging companies have can be answered by a thorough analysis of this industry and how these companies compare to one another on many different fronts. Analyzing the global pharmaceutical industry can bring to light how we in the United States compare on the grounds of industry attractiveness to our global counterparts. Looking at Porter s Five Forces model and how it fits into the global pharmaceutical industry can start to explain the true attractiveness of the industry. Buyer power tends to be the strongest force in this industry due to the price control policies in state and private sectors that are a large determinant when it comes to likeliness to purchase. Another issue is that medical professionals wield a significant amount of power in what drugs are available to consumers or not. It is also to important to note that entry barriers may include many governmental regulatory issues that will vary from country to country and largely affect if specific drugs are allowed to be sold or not. Rivalry in the industry is also very strong due to the strong competition between larger firms and smaller generic companies fighting for the customer s loyalty. Supplier power is also important to note while looking at this industry because the nature of the products being created require a lot of extra manufacturing and time. Due to the ... These systems that deeply affect the way bodies of color, Black women very specifically, are able to conduct their lives. Black women in particular, are vulnerable to these systems in a way unlike any other body in America. Thinking back on the writings of Beth E. Richie, Angela Davis, and Audre Lord, I now see Assata Shakur s Affirmation in a new light. Affirmation is a poem that speaks to the pain and suffering Black bodies have endured, and even through all of this pain, it speaks of optimism. I argue, that through the lens of Black feminism, we can re examine many organizations and institutions in a way that can be truly be more inclusive of people of all walks of life. If systems were created with regard for the most targeted groups of people and not just the majority , we may truly see inclusive settings and we can benefit from the membership of people from different races, class, gender identity, sexual orientation and age in these institutions. You will commonly see an ACL sprain in athletes associated with contact sports that require them come to an abrupt stop and pivot. The knee joint is a hinge joint that connects the femur to tibia. The anterior muscles of the quadriceps and the posterior muscles of the hamstrings help stabilize the knee joint (Prentice Bobo Benson, 2014). The ACL consists of long rope like bands that fasten bones together to keep the knee stable. The ACL is one of four ligaments that stabilize the knee, and it is one of the most injured ligament in the knee. The medial and collateral ligaments run along the outside of the knee and prevent the knee from shifting side to side, and the anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments are located inside the knee and prevent the knee from shifting forward and backward (Prentice Bobo Benson, 2014). • 26. The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow Romanticism Analysis How does an author or their work get placed into an overall category theme such as Romanticism? Is it based solely on the time period for which the author is published or is it because of the style of their work? The reason for this puzzling question is because I originally did not understand how The Legend of Sleepy Hollow would fit into the Romanticism period. The Legend of Sleepy Hollow contains suspense, a ghost story and a heroine with conflict but my previous understanding of Romanticism was that the author or the works associated with it focused on a longing for love and grand experiences in life. Much to my dismay, I could not have been further from the truth. The romantic movement occurred in the 1800 and 1900 s. There may be some confusion or discord on an exact definition but the overall movement focused on the individual more than society, an individual s imagination and feelings (Romanticism), and ideal perspective on nature, conflict between good and evil and some would include the element of the supernatural (Dincer 218). The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, written by Washington Irving, fits nicely into the Romanticism period due to its eloquent descriptions and detail to the nature around the village, the attention and focus on the main character and the addition of ghost stories and superstitions. These pieces come together to build a story of conflict and adventure. To further describe how all of the pieces fit together, we must first begin with the author. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
