The Valiant Five
The Famous Five, or Valiant Five, was not only made up of five strong, independent women, but
five role models. It started with Emily Murphy, a bright woman from Cookstown, Ontario, who
was determined to make a difference for women all over Canada. She enlisted four other activists,
Nellie McClung, Louise McKinney, Henrietta Edwards, and Irene Parlby, who would help her on
her journey to get women legally recognised as persons in Canada. Although the five made history
together, they each have very unique backstories and each of these women have helped to make a
significant difference in the lives of women for many years to come.
Emily Murphy was a women s rights activist and a feminist. She made history by becoming the first
female judge in Canada for the British Empire, which opened numerous opportunities for other
women. She challenged the idea that women were more than just housewives. Before this
movement, though, she was a writer, best known for her humour and great concern for the welfare
of women and children. After Murphy got married, her and her husband took a trip to the
countryside, where she encountered a women who had been left in poverty due to her husband
selling her family farm that she had been working on for some 18 years. Upon hearing this,

She was a political activist and as a feminist, she questioned the traditional roles of women. As a
school teacher, McClung didn t believe that certain sports were for men, and certain sports were for
women. She believed that sports were gender neutral and she wanted the students she taught to
believe in the same thing, so she would take them outside during recess and play football with
them, which was not seen as a sport for ladies at the time. Her views on gender roles pushed her
to speak out on the issue of equality. She decided to campaign on the topic of women suffrage and
as a result, women were able to vote in

The Tragedy Of Vladimir Lenin And The Rise Of Joseph Stalin
Some of the most tragic moments in Russian history occurred during the tumultuous period
between the death of Vladimir Lenin and the rise of Joseph Stalin during the 1930s. This was a
time of massive devastation during which almost 5 million peasants died of starvation due to the
failures of collective farming. Thousands of men and women were also falsely accused of anti
patriotism and sent to Siberian labor camps in which they experienced rampant disease, physical
and emotional abuse, and often execution. Vasily Grossman endeavors to discern who is to blame
for these injustices through his novel Everything Flows . Grossman s main character, Ivan, has just
been released from almost a thirty year imprisonment following the death of Stalin. Through Ivan s
recollections of camp life and assimilation into Post Stalinist Russia, Grossman reveals the forces
he believes are at fault. However, his understanding of this guilt is far more complex as revealed
through the means by which he evaluates the culpable factors. Grossman uses a method of
assessment similar to a bottom up analysis by beginning with the individual elements of the
Communist Party and progressing to a larger holistic view of Russian civilization. This method
allows for multiple factors to bear some of the blame without undue bias holding one entirely
accountable. Thus, Grossman is arguing that the slave identity embedded in Russian history was
responsible for the development of certain characteristics in Lenin s

The music business is changing rapidly, and artists have to find new ways to adapt to the changes.
Among the many changes is the selling of artists music. The way artists sell their music has

has brought with it many adverse side effects; including, the huge loss in revenue for artists brought
in by these new changes. Artists have had to adapt to this by touring more often and using their

This proves that an image that an artist created for the band can be destroyed by selling out to
companies. If a band created an image of being rebellious, and they sell out; then, they are going
to seem less rebellious and leave their fans betrayed. While this may all be true, the benefits of
artists making deals with corporations are far greater. Such as, A corporation paying for these
costs can make the difference between artists growing their careers, or completely giving up on
the music business altogether (Coates). If an artist cannot pay for the costs of touring and selling
music, then they could use the advertisement to get enough money to keep their dream alive.
Artists making deals with companies has many positives, such as: giving bands exposure, and
helping with the revenue of bands, and making bands more recognizable. There are many benefits
to artists starring in advertisements with corporations, which is why music should be in
advertising. Music in advertising is helpful to the artists and the companies in numerous ways,
which is why artists should be able to keep their music in advertising. The importance of music in

The Morality Of Henry V By William Shakespeare
During Shakespeare s day, kings were often, along with the clergy, perceived and reverenced as
God s delegates on earth, and Henry V was no exception. Nevertheless, in one of William
Shakespeare s acclaimed plays about this monarch s life, Henry V, Shakespeare depicts Henry as
far from ideal, even though Henry Vmay have also displayed certain admirable qualities at times.
This is evinced by Henry Vs motives, aggression, and lies. First, Shakespeare displays Henry V s
flawed character through his mixed, conflicting motives. Throughout the play, we find hints that
a desire to do God s will motivated him throughout the play. Before he declared war against
France, he sought the approval of God by way of the established English ecclesiastical authority,
and even when he believed he was justified in his claim to rule France, he declared, For we have
now no thought in us but France, / Save those to God, that run before our business (1.2.315 316).
Furthermore, during the battle of Agincourt, he trusted God for his victory, and after the battle
stated: And be it death proclaimed through our host / To boast of this or take that praise from God
/ Which is His only (4.8.119 121). It does not seem that such words could come... Show more

This can first be seen in his attempt to capture France, which, although instigated by two English
bishops, was an aggressive and unjustified campaign against a neighboring Christian country. The
expense of war is immeasurably great, costing time, money, and, ultimately, lives, and should
therefore only be engaged in at the last resort. And who can question that Henry V had a choice in
his French campaign? Throughout the war, Henry V, in his unnecessary aggression against France,
was also unnecessarily aggressive to her inhabitants. While besieging the French fort of Harfleur,
Henry threatened that, if the defenders

Comparison Of Gilgamesh And Oedipus The King
The Epic of Gilgamesh took place in the city of Uruk Mesopotamia, and the first story appears in
2100 B.C.E. Oedipus the King came to life in the city of Thebes in 429 B.C.E. The Ramayana of
Valmiki was composed in 550 B.C.E. These three pieces of writings have distinct differences in time
periods and setting. On the other hand, a similarity that these writings share is that each has its own
hero. The time period and setting certainly have an impact in the actions that these heroes take, and
the goals they wish to accomplish. Gilgamesh (Gilgamesh), Oedipus(Oedipus the king), and Ram
(Ramayan) are all portrayed as heroes with different and similar characteristics such as dedication

Taking a Look at a Shamrock Organization
A Shamrock Organization Charles Handy is an author and philosopher who specializes in
organizational behavior and management. He has written several books that help companies
succeed in creating relationships with their employees that are similar to communities rather than
just entities on a mission for profit. Most of his working life was spent in Britain, where he became
a spokesperson for management. Charles Handy was rated among the Thinkers 50, a list of the
most influential management thinkers. In 2001 he came second to Peter Drucker. Charles
Handy is married to Elizabeth, a photographer, who he has collaborated with on a number of his
most notable works. Together, they have a son, Scott, who is an actor. Scott has played with the
Royal Shakespeare Company. Handy studied at Oriel College in Oxford where he obtained a
first class honor in Greats, a study of classics, history, and philosophy. Unlike most influential
individuals to management and business in general, Handy actually lacks a lot of business
background. Peter Drucker once said that Handy was a man practicing the scholarship of
common sense. This is apparent in the majority of his works by the use of his use of elaborate
metaphors and easily understandable writing style. He uses metaphors and parables related to his
work experiences or life experiences to teach a lesson to his audience. The way Handy tells a story

There are more blessings in praise and worship than just praying all day for our needs.
The hours that we spent in prayer asking from God, if such is spent in praise and worshipping
chances are we will stand a better chance of receiving from our Heavenly Father.
Praise and worship can be defined as giving God the gratitude for what He has done, what He is
currently doing, and what He will do in our lives.
In the atmosphere of praise and worship, the Holy Spirit abounds. Chains and shackles are broken,

Essay on How the Great Depression Changed the Federal...
The period before the great depression, the 1920s, was known as the Roaring Twenties or the
Jazz age. This Era was marked by artistic movement such as the creation of Jazz music and a rich
supply of American writing. During this time the federal government had been providing some
aid to the states but leaving the bulk of the power to the states, which is known as a dual
federalism. It also marked the end of modest social traditions and wave of materialism encouraged
by increased customer spending with the open use of a new concept called credit.
As the Great Depression rolled in, a cry for the involvement of government in matters of the

Things Fall Apart, by Chinua Achebe Essay
In the novel, Things Fall Apart, by Chinua Achebe, women play the roles of oppressed
homemakers that are perceived as weak and defenseless second class citizens, as the educators of
children, and as spiritual leaders in traditional Ibo culture. Through the life of Okonwo, the main
character of Things Fall Apart, the roles of women in traditional Ibo culture are presented through
various events that take place in the village of Umuofia. In traditional Ibo culture, women were to
stay at home and tend to her husbands needs and satisfy them. Women were viewed as property of
their fathers and were then sold to the suitor that was willing to pay her bride price. A womanhad no

The other wives were very much afraid of Okonwo but they knew better than to challenge his
authority. Neither of the wives dared to interfere between an occasional and tentative, It is

Ekwefi when she referred to him as one of those guns that never shot. The novel describes a third
instance of wife beating, when a severe case of wife beating comes before the egwugwu, they
found in favor of the beaten wife, but at the end of the trial an elder wondered, Why such a trifle
should come before the egwugwu? (94). All these occurrences demonstrate that women are
oppressed and are treated like inferior, worthless properties that deserved to be beaten now and
then in traditional Ibo culture. The Ibo believe that women are weak in every aspect of life. Men
insult each other by calling each other women. An example of this is Okonwo s deep hatred and
resentment for his father, Unoka, whom he considered a woman because of his carelessness to
rank high in status among the Ibo, for his laziness, and him being an untitled man. In a kindred
meeting of his peers, Okonwo unkindly tells Osugo, the man who had contradicted him in the
meeting, This meeting is for men (26). Since Osugo has taken no title, Okonwo considers him a
woman. Okonwo perceives women as being weak and does not want to appear weak or like a
woman among the Ibo. After murdering Ikemefuna,

Argument Against Cursive
You re probably familiar with the term cursive cursive really necessary now a days, read more
and find out! All across the nation there is a debate going on if cursive should be allowed in
schools or discontinued. And if it is necessary or not. Cursive should be discontinued because it is
unnecessary. Cursiveis only necessary when it comes to signing your name. You do not read in
cursive, print is used 99% of the time instead of cursive. In conclusion cursive is very unnecessary
and should not be a curriculum in schools.

Thirdly If cursive is taught back then people in higher grades like highschool and junior high

brought back the books and everything around us today still would be print and it would be like
moving to another country with a different language not being able to connect the two.
Importantly when you go into school libraries the librarians and schools have gotten rid of most
books written in cursive simply because students don t know how to read them and they are just

Arguments For And Against Code Switching
The ongoing debate for and against Code switching is demonstrated by reviewing the papers of
Vershawn Young and Rebecca Wheeler. Mr. Young voices his harsh disapproval of code
switching in his paper, Should Writers Use They Own English? (Young 111) . This is offset by
Rebecca Wheeler s gently persuasive technical paper explaining her implementation of Code
switching which she titled, Code Switch to Teach Standard English (Wheeler 108) . After re
reading both papers several times, trying to move past the emotion, and return to the point of
having a US Standard English, I remain with my personal definition of the purpose of US Standard
English as a tool to communicate. Before we delve any further, let me share my understandingof
communications. In the communications industry (think Telephone), there is a simple rule, in
order for successful communication, the sender speaks their thoughts, which the telephone converts
into an electronic signal that travels across a transmission medium, to the receiver s telephone
where the signal is converted back into speech for the receiver to hear. If this process fails at any
point, then communications fails. Applying this to written communications, if the sender writes in
French and the receiver only speaks Japanese, then communications fails because the receiver could
not understand what was written. To overcome this a translator of some form must be engaged to
insure that the sender and receiver utilize the same language. Being more

Film Analysis Of The Mise-En-Scene In Film
The Mise en scene describes the elements and details in a scene of a film and the way they are
shown and arranged. This being said, the lighting, makeup, costumes, setting and props are all
key factors of Mise en scene. The setting in a film creates a sense of place, a mood, and may also
reflect a character s emotional state. It can be entirely fabricated within a studio just like Rear
Window or it may also be found and filmed on location. Perhaps the most easily visible aspect of
mise en scene is costume. Costume can include both makeup or wardrobe choices that are used to
convey a character s temperament or status, and to suggest these differences between characters.
Lighting is a huge part of filmmaking. Lights are what a cinematographer uses to paint a set. They
use lighting changes to help define characters, create a setting, or to portray how that character is
feeling. In the next few paragraphs, I will point out all the cinimatograpgy of the Mise en scene
from the clips from The Godfatherand Rear Window. The opening sequence of Rear Window is a
curtain raiser... literally. it opens with the camera on the inside of J.B Jefferies(Jeff) s Livingroom
in his apartment. The credits are shown on the scene of a window in jeffs apartment, while the
blinds on the window behind them are slowly raised. Making me compare it to watching a
production at the theater, where they raise the curtains at the start of the show. This opening
scene takes the audience into a comfortable setting; we re in a seemingly nice neighborhood and
it is a beautiful morning! As we start to take in the scene, The camera then cuts to an angled shot
that is looking out of the window and down, where we follow a cat walking up the stairway and
into the courtyard. The camera makes a brief stop at the ladder against the apartment building
before it slowly tilts upwards (almost as if its were climbing the ladder!) the camera then stops at
the upper apartment balcony where a small family can be seen getting ready. The camera then
pans left, showing the audience all of the open windows on the apartment complex, where we can
see that none of the windows has their curtains fully drawn or their blinds down for privacy. There

Luxembourg, France, And Belgium

While the French jurisdiction still controlled Luxembourg during the 18th century, homosexual

Luxembourg started to legally recognize same sex partnerships, commonly referred to as civil
unions in the United States. The Partenariat, or partnership, often referred to as PACS, gave
homosexual couples many new rights, which weren t recognized prior to the act. The rights
included, as found in the law include, tax benefits that heterosexual couples had, social security
benefits, the partners would also be held liable for each other s debts; however, the rights did not
include joint adoption of children. Luxembourg would also not recognize partnerships that were

would have more intelligent, confident and free women. The problem is the hidden message
Sleeping Beautyfor example Aurorais described as an extraordinarily beautiful woman, so young
girls will understand, even if they are not directly told, that is what society perceives as
beautiful. If you have ever seen Sleeping Beauty, however, you will notice that Aurora s figure is
as impossible as Barbie s for humans to achieve. Unfortunately, this is not isolated just to Sleeping
Beauty. All of Disney s princesses, and even some of the female villains, are impossibly

Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis
Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis once observed, Once you can express yourself, you can tell the
world what you want from it. Self expression is a way for people to communicate. It allows one
to convey his or her thoughts and emotions to the outer world. People express themselves in
several different ways: using art forms, writing, performing, etc. Others express themselves
through their moral compass and character. Self expression of one s morals enables others to
build trust and confide in he or she. One s morals are formed based on emotions and experiences
that impact the behavior and choices of the individual. I found that my main form of expression is
through my morals. Moral values are an important part of every person. Our morals guide us

The Licence Fee Challenged
The Licence Fee Challenged
When the licence fee was first introduced it was seen as an appropriate way to keep the BBC free
from commercial and government interests. When the licensee was first introduced into the
wireless telegraphy act in November 1923 to cover radio sets it cost 10 shillings per year. By the
end of the year 200, 000 licences had been issued and five years later this had risen to two and a
half million licenses. During the forties a combined radio and TV licence was issued costing ВЈ2

Many alternatives to the licence fee have been proposed, initially the BBC contemplated using a
model championed by retail giant John Lewis in which licence fee payers could become part
shareholders in the corporation. Since the freezing of the current licence fee rate until 2017, have
been forced to make BBC3 a purely online service. Director General Tony Hall warned that BBC4
could be next to go, if further cuts were made to the BBC s funding .
There have also been calls to introduce a subscription model for the BBC, which has been firmly
rejected by the corporation. The BBC warned that a subscription model could be exclusionary to
those unable to afford to pay. Their refusal to enter into a subscription based system may be
justified, as Sky, the UK s first subscription based model announced a target of 10 million homes
in 2004, the target was only reached in 2010, as subscriber numbers elsewhere in europe started to

Environmental Effects Of Cadmium
Environmental pollutants are becoming increasingly present throughout the world as industrial
progress has expanded in countries like China. Among these environmental pollutants, Cadmium
has been characterized as the most dangerous heavy metal ion because of its resiliency and
numerous negative health effects (Kermani et. Al., 2010). Growing dependence on chemical
fertilizer, wastewater irrigation, and uncontrolled discharge of industrial waste from activities, such
as mining and smelting, has led to large amounts of Cadmium in soil (Nazar et. Al., 2012).
Cadmium has adverse effects on plantlife. Cadmium competes with nutrients, such as Calcium,
Magnesium, and Iron, that are also trying to get through the cell membranes of plant cells (Nazar
et. Al., 2012). Specifically, disruption of the Calcium channel in plants with Cadmium can lead to
an altered plant water relationship, causing, stomatal closure in many plants, leading to lower
transpiration rate, and inhibitions of photosynthesisthrough an adverse effect on chlorophyll
metabolism. (Nazar et. Al., 2012) Because Cadmium replaces the space that plants have for
Calcium, the plants overall function is worsened because it changes the plant s relationship with
water, causing the stomata, which oversee a plants respiratory function, to close. The plants then
begin to transpire less and photosynthesis in plants decrease as a result. Decreased photosynthesis
leads to growth inhibition of plants and an imbalance in

Guaman Poma De Ayal A Literary Analysis
Among the great writers of colonial Peru, Guaman Poma stands alone. His First New Chronicle
and Good Government, a massive manuscript only recently rediscovered after nearly 300 years, is a
unique work that walks the often thin line between text and graphic, Spanish and Quechua, and
history and rhetoric. Guaman Poma s goal in writing his First New Chronicle was twofold: to
secure a future for Andean nobility, and a future for Andean customs. These purposes were at odds
with each other. On the one hand, securing power for Andean nobles like himself meant presenting
Andeans to the Spanish as colonized Catholics capable of self autonomy, while on the other,
preserving Andean customs meant preserving religious traditions that were at odds with... Show

The descendant of Inca nobility, he retained the title of kuraka (Andean lord) in colonial Peru. In his
early life, he helped the Spanish persecute idolaters. Later in life, however, he fell out of favor
with the colonial government, which ultimately stripped him of his property and banished him
from his home (Coronel Molina xiii). Under the shadow of this disillusionment, he wrote his
masterpiece The First New Chronicle, as an outcry against the Spanish, and an argument in the
fight for Andean resurgence. From his unique vantage point as a cultural mestizo, he criticized
both the colonial Spanish and the Incas, whom he also considered to be colonizers of Andean
tribes such as his own. Yet as a biological Andean, he also criticized mestizos, advocating instead
for Andean rule of colonial Peru. The First New Chronicle advances this purpose explicitly. A
massive tome over one thousand pages long, it chronicles the history of the Andean people from
ancient times to 1615 AD. Guaman Poma designed the work to be accessible to Spanish readers,
placing the Andean timeline in parallel with the traditional timeline of Europe, thus also
emphasizing the similarity of European traditions to those of the

Answer: The Chinese government would reduce or eliminate the quotas and other measures
which until now have protected domestic production of soybeans from cheaper imports. China
s consumption of soybeans ballooned by more than 160% between 2000 and 2011 when import
barriers were removed, but the area planted with soybeans declined by 20% during those same
years. Chinese farmers were simply unable to compete with imported soybeans that were RMB
300 to 600 (US$45 90) cheaper per ton than domestic beans. Imported soybeans now account for
three quarters of the soybeans processed into cooking oil and feed in China, the products of
soybean crushing. If China is able to prove that domestic soybean producers are not able to
survive because of low cost imports from Brazil, the WTO ruling would be in favor of China and
such measures would be upheld. However, if such measures were used as retaliation to Brazilian
ban on Chinese toys, the WTO ruling would be in favor of Brazil and China would not be able to
restrict import of Soybean from Brazil. REFERENCES Raghavan, Chakravarthi (2000). The World

Temporomandibular Asymmetry
The relevance of temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) to malocclusion become a hot issue in
recent years. TMDs is a collective complex term for a group of musculoskeletal and neuromuscular
conditions which includes several clinical signs and symptoms involving the muscles of
mastications, temporomandibular joint, and associated structures (Manfredini et al., 2010; Ferreira
et al., 2013). The displacement of mandible can influence the modeling process of the TMJ, leading
to asymmetry. Eventhough a small amount of asymmetry in the maxillofacial region is common,
there is a critical threshold distance that is considered as asymmetric (Masuoka et al., 2007; Chu et

Importance of Speech in Much Ado About Nothing, A Midsummer Night s Dream, and Richard III
Speech is often the strongest indicator of personality and motivation in Shakespearean histories and
comedies. Each turn of phrase is a small insight into the essence of the character. Stringing together
each line from the mouth of the character allows the audience to discover each nuance created by
Shakespeare. By connecting the actions to a manner of speech, which mirrors those actions,
Shakespeare is able to create more believable and dynamic characters. Examining Much Ado About

specific way of speaking. Villains with their quick and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Much Ado About Nothing, Don John, the established villain, claims I am not a man of many
words (I.i). From this assertion, a certain amount of mystery arises in the audience. The other
characters have long been conversing on their victories in war (and verbal battles) while Don
John lurks in the background. By removing himself from the conversation, Don John becomes an
observer, which automatically arouses suspicion regarding his motives. Throughout his
interaction with the primary characters in the play, Don John keeps his word of not speaking
often. Rarely does he speak to Don Pedro, his brother, or his brother s intimate friends, but he
becomes much more verbal with speech with his lackies, Borachio and Conrade. Although he is
never loquacious, Don John s tongue becomes looser as he relishes in his plans to both the
audience and his followers. His speech still maintains the short, staccato like phrases when
makings his plans of mischief (I.i). This change of speech also indicates a hidden personality
and possible ill will. The audience is expected to receive this quick transformation as evidence of
Don John s evil nature. Those who missed the clues earlier in the scene are now able to fully
understand the reasons behind Don John s reserved nature. Don John s delivery of speech varies
so greatly between company that the audience could deduce his evil plot before it is fully revealed.

Talk about Pop Music, Talk about Pop MusicВ… was one of the most catchy phrases of the 1980

is pop culture?
br
br I spent some time online trying to answer my question and time after time I was led to the same
direction: pop culture is what we see, hear, speak, and are otherwise exposed to on a daily basis.
The infomercials we see late on television, the billboards we see on the side of the road, the junk
mail we receive, the links on the web pages we visit, and the radio commercials we hear all tie
together to form this idea of pop culture. These, plus many other aspects, form our minds and teach

Western Dominance And Its Effects On The Global Economy Essay
Modern history is composed of many false narratives of western dominance coming about as a
result of some type of superiority, whether it was the European thought process, religion, culture,
or even skin color. Western dominance, however, did not come from a place of superiority, but
rather a streak of luck that allowed European countries to begin to colonize the rest of the world,
cutting the world up into a few powerful colonial empires. Although today these colonial empires
have diminished somewhat or entirely, the neoliberal policies and institutions that were put in
place in the nineteen seventies continue to perpetuate the same power and economic inequalities
that had been felt by colonies, on the current global economy. Neoliberalism reinforces the
unequal power relationships through mechanisms that are designed generally to benefit the
developed countries of the global north, while exploiting the cheap resources contained in the
global south. The colonial division of labor was the tool of choice that European power s used to
develop their infant industries to become competitive on the global market. Before the European
or western rise to power, China and India were the dominant forces in global trade, exporting
some of the finest products worldwide. The fall of the Chinese and Indian trade dominance
coincided with the rise of European colonizing. Through the colonial division of labor, European
colonizers were able to exploit their colonies for cheap resources to

Track Research Papers
The first modern Olympics was held in Athens, Greece, in 1896. The first foot races were held at
this event. We now refer to these exciting races as track. The races consist of sprinters, middle
distance, and distance runners. The races can range from 100 meters all the way up to 10,000
meters. All of these runners have different jobs and roles on their teams. A great deal of precise
and dedicated training goes into their workouts. Despite the distance they run, track runners are
extremely hard workers. One type of runner in track is the sprinter. The original Olympic event
know as the stadion race, was a sprint of around 180 meters. Now there are generally three
different sprint distances. These consists of the 100 meter, 200 meter, and the 400 meter dash.
Most elite level sprinters train about 20 hours a week for races that are just seconds long. They
have to train on the track, in the weight room, and in the kitchen. Michael Johnson and Tyson Gay

Gender Inequalities Around The World
After doing research on gender inequalities around the world, I realized how bad a lot of countries
are to women. Looking at the countries that have gender inequalities, I can see why they are not
moving towards sustainability. In this essay, I will be providing detailed examples of how different
countries treat their women and wives.
In some countries, women and wives don t have the right to travel without their husband or their
closest male relative s permission. In Egypt, Bahrain, and Syria, it is the husband s right to stop
their wives from traveling out of the country. All the husband needs to do is file a complaint at the
airport to prevent his wife from leaving the country. The husband doesn t even need to give the
airport any reason for why he doesn t want his wife traveling. In other countries like Iraq, Jordan,
Morocco, Oman, and Yemen, the husband needs to provide written permission for their wives to
travel. Lastly in Saudi Arabia, for an unmarried woman to travel they must have written permission
from their closest male relative. This written permission is for leaving the country or traveling on
public transportation between the different parts of the country.
In South Asia and Sub Saharan Africa, forty percent of women are married before their 18th

Kurt Cobain Case
The latest lawsuit regarding Kurt Cobain s death scene images has been rejected by the King
County Superior Court on Friday, July 31. The lawsuit was filed by Richard Lee, a conspiracy
theorist behind the public show Now See It Person To Person: Kurt Cobain Was Murdered, who
claims that Cobain was actually murdered by government officials. Lee filed a lawsuit against
Seattle, claiming that the city purposefully withheld important reports and photos that would
serve as evidence for his theory. Ever since 1994, Lee has been on a mission to unveil the details
regarding Cobain s death, but the Superior Court Judge Theresa Doyle rejected the lawsuit with
the explanation it was improperly served. The verdict stated that Doyle failed to deliver the
lawsuit to the mayor, city clerk or city manager, who are the proper recipients of such cases. In
addition, judge Doyle decided that Lee did not give the city enough time to respond to the public

The Religion Of Islam Is A Religion With Deep Roots That
The religion of Islam is a religion with deep roots that have now expanded out from the Middle
East and touch all corners of the world. While there is no doubt that Islam s oldest roots lie in the
birthplace of the religion, the Arabian Peninsula, the religion s culture, customs, and laws have
been carried out from here and impact millions worldwide. However, with the spread of Islaminto
the world comes the spread of the world into Islam. Meaning that as Islam s roots grow far and

The first scholar, Subhi Mahmasani was from Lebanon where he held many prestigious titles in
the political sphere such as: a member of the Lebanese Parliament, president of the Appeals Court,
minister of Economy, as well as teaching at the American University in Beirut and the Lebanese
University (LI, 145). The article published by Mahmasani in Liberal Islam is entitled Adaptation of
Islamic Jurisprudence to Modern Social Need. Mahmasani begins by explaining that the concept of
Islamic jurisprudence dealt with questions of religions, worship and legal transactions thus
explaining that the ulama (scholars) and jurists had to be knowledge in all departments of
knowledge (LI, 145). This knowledge comes from a variety of sources such as the Qu ran and the
Sunna as well as through customs, geography, and the search for the inner ijtihad (endeavor or
interpretation).
Mahmasani s claims that after Sunni jurists agreed to close the door to ijtihad, because of the fall
of Baghdad in the seventh century, Islamic thought met a dead end. Mahmasani explains that the
door of ijtihad should be thrown wide open for anyone juristically qualified...what is right is to
allow freedom of interpretation of Islamic jurisprudence and to liberate thought (LI 146). More so,
he later goes on to explain that the Sunna is a contradiction because the prophet

Summary Of Corrine Carvalho s Primer On Biblical...
Introduction
Biblical interpretation is an area that leaves historians and students perplexed. There are many
questions as to when exactly a certain text was written, whom it was written by, origin of sources,
etc. To answer these questions, Christian historians have developed methods in order to make sense
of the messages in the bible. In particular, Corrine Carvalho s Primer on Biblical Methods works to
critically explain and interpret scripture so readers feel less skeptical about the legitimacy of the
text. These methods include the following: Source criticism, the reconstruction of written sources
an ancient author may have used to compose a text. Form criticism, the way a final author has put a
text together. Traditional criticism, the identification of traditions that an author employs in
constructing new texts. Historical criticism, the historical circumstances that have led an author to
write a given text (Carvalho, 2009, p. 3); they are encouraged for readers to use throughout the
bible. If you look at Psalms, you will find prayers of a poetic nature, almost like a song like. This
writing style often leaves the meaning of its text open for interpretation because it speaks in
metaphors, it contains little to no defining statements. Carvalho s methods can be applied to Psalm
18.
THEO 223 Endterm: Intermediate Exegesis
Source Criticism Psalms 18 is the Psalm of King David. David provides several lines of imagery
and metaphors in the beginning of the Psalm to emphasize the degree in which the Lord has
helped him. The Lord also thundered in the heavens, and the most high uttered his voice
(Attridge et al, 2006, Psalm 18:13, p. 746)...He reached down from on high, he took me; he drew
me out of mighty waters (Attridge et al, 2006, Psalm 18:16, p. 747). However, the Psalm has an
abrupt shift in subject matter that suggests the psalmist has put the whole thing together from
separate sources. It begins with Psalm 18:20, The Lord rewarded me according to my
righteousness; according to the cleanliness of my hands he recompensed me (Attridge et al, 2006,
Psalm 18:20, p. 747). Every verse before verse 20 was under the theme of thanksgiving. In
addition, it had a high dose of metaphor and imagery,

Flattery in Pride and Prejudice Essay
Flattery in Pride and Prejudice
Since its composition in 1797, Jane Austin s Pride and Prejudice has enjoyed two centuries of
literary esteem not because of its witty dialogue or its tantalizing plot, but because of its universal
themes that allow modern readers to identify with early Victorian life. Although the novel focuses
on the etiquette of courtship, related social rituals are also prevalent throughout the story. William
Collins, a rector in Pride and Prejudice, uses excessive flattery to persuade people to look upon him
favorably. He even lavishly praises himself to enhance his self esteem. While the sycophant s
peculiar behavior is comical at first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Of the three distinct directions Collins aims his flattery, the most complex to explicate is
arguably that praise he directs toward himself. In a letter to the Bennet family, he writes I flatter
myself that my present overtures of good will are highly commendable...[and you will not] reject
the offered olive branch (67). In this introduction to Collins, he asserts his benevolence as nothing
short of remarkable and immediately springs from that notion to presume it bears influence over
others. His self assuring antics appear in an argument later when he remarks ...I consider myself
more fitted by education and habitual study to decide on what is right than a young lady like
yourself (106 107). Collins self directed flattery empowers him with decisive confidence that
allows him to win logical disputes by default, no doubt bolstering his self image and augmenting his
probability for affluence.
On numerous occasions, Collins asserts the importance of his appointment as rector in the
community, implying that he thinks highly of the rigid demeanor required to fulfill the duties of
his imminent position.

Sacroiliac Joint Essay
1. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Balance is the ability to move or remain in a position without losing control or falling. Balance is an
action done without active consideration, but it is vital for locomotion and maintenance of an
upright posture. When balance is impaired it may have detrimental effects. The sacroiliac joint (SIJ)
is a key element in an upright posture and locomotion. Subluxations in the SIJ are common in a
large percent of the population, and may be symptomatic or asymptomatic in nature. These
subluxations can cause a number of symptoms including lower back pain, leg length inequality and
dysfunction in standing, walking, lifting objects and changing positions. Chiropractic treatment of
the SIJ has been found to relieve lower back ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most patient s demonstrated improved balance, and some showed reduced dizziness and neck pain
after 8 weeks of chiropractic therapies. (Strunk and Hawk, 2009)
Study 2 was conducted to determine if proprioception would be improved by manual manipulation
of the SIJ or through full body vibration, via the use of a power plate. The results concluded that
there was an improvement in balance in the group, who received the vibration power plate, as well
as the combination group and the group that received only the chiropractic adjustment therapy.
(Landman, 2010)
Study 3 was conducted in order to determine the immediate effect of a unilateral sacroiliac
adjustment on gait. This study found that in asymptomatic patients, the sacroiliac adjustment
improved gait, and it was concluded that this treatment should become a treatment regime for
patients with gait abnormalities. (Schooling, 2012)

The Five Stages Of Sleep
Most sleepers pass through five stages; 1, 2, 3, 4, and REM (rapid eye movement) sleep. A
complete sleep cycle lasts between 90 to 110 minutes, once the cycle is completed it starts back at
stage one and repeats itself. Stage 1 is a very light sleep, where you can drift in and out of sleep and
you are easily awakened. Eye movement and muscle activity will begin to slow down. People
most commonly experience muscle contractions throughout stage 1. When stage 2 begins eye
movement has stopped completely and our brain waves begin to slow down. It is in stage 3 where
a person will experience delta waves in the brain, these are very slow brain waves. The delta waves
in stage 3 are intercepted with a few smaller, faster waves. In stage 4 the brain is only producing
delta waves. Stages 3 and 4 are known as deep sleep, it is very hard to wake someone if they are in
a deep sleep because there is no eye movement or muscle activity. Stages 1 4 are the longest stages
of sleep lasting between 4 to 7 hours a night.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This stage is also the shortest of the stages, lasting around 90 120 minutes per night. During
REM sleep epinephrine is released and the person s breathing speeds up and becomes irregular.
There is a lot of eye movement during REM sleep, however, there is not a lot of muscle activity
because the limb muscles are temporarily paralyzed. A person s heart rate and blood pressure
rise and their brain waves are equal to those of a fully awake and functioning person. Most
dreams typically occur during REM sleep due to the fact that the brain is highly active. If a person
is waken during REM sleep they are more likely to remember their

Marriage By David Popenoe And Barbara Dafoe Whitehead...
Marriage: a fairy tale where every moment leads to happiness and everlasting love. In the article
What s Happening to Marriage? the authors David Popenoe and Barbara Dafoe Whitehead reverse
the fairy tale of marriage. The article conveys a different aspect of marriage that marriage is
weakening and divorceis on the rise. The authors believe men and women of this time have more
struggles when marrying one another than when their parents or grandparents got married. The
authors arguments are well supported, but their use of fallacies outweighs their theories. David
Popenoe and Barbara Dafoe Whitehead claim that in today s society marriageis becoming more of a
trust issue than previously thought. They believe marriages have none of these elements: ...an
economic bond of mutual dependency; a social bond supported by the extended familyand larger
community; and a spiritual bond upheld by religious doctrine, observance and faith (520).
Marriage is becoming more of a couples relationship and losing meaning in society s culture;
therefore, the rate of divorce is increasing causing people to be cautious of marriage. Popenoe and
Whitehead use numerous statistics about divorce rate; however, they only examine the women s
point of view. According to the authors, this is not the first time marriage has gone to the dumps
and recovered causing the authors to delay on writing marriage s obituary. The authors of the
article value a considerable amount of appeals that are

Throwing Our Planet On The Garbage
Throwing Our Planet in the Garbage
It is something that we all have heard about. The horrific challenges we face with plastic
overwhelming our oceans have created an awful picture in all of our minds at one time or
another, but have you ever thought about whether or not all of our oceans are being affected?
What about how much garbage is accumulating in our precious oceans and the effects that
accumulation is having on us. These are questions I have always been particularly intrigued in
finding the answers to, though I know that some of the answers that we have concluded are only
estimates. To look further into this issue, Laura Parker wrote an article titled Eight Million Tons
of Plastic Dumped in Ocean Every Year . The article was published by National Geographic in
February of this year (2015), and will be my main source of information for this subject.
According to Laura Parker s article, eight million tons of plastic trash ended up in the ocean
from coastal countries . The worst offenders of those countries were compiled into a top 20 list,
putting China first and the United States in the twentieth spot. It may seem as though we are
doing somewhat better than out counterparts, and this may be true in a sense. However, if we
were truly doing our part, we would not be on this list at all. So why is it that only few of us seem
to dispose of our waste properly? Not only that, but why is it that even the majority are doing their
part, the problem continues to arise?

Essay about Symbols in the Briefcase in “Invisible Man” by...
Towards the end of the book Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison, the narrator who remains unnamed
thought the entire book, risks his life to save a briefcase filled with seemingly random assorted
items. But later in the book the narrator is forced to burn the items in his briefcase in order to
find his way out of a sewer he gets stuck in. Closer reading reveals that the items in his briefcase
are more than random assorted items, but instead are symbols. Each one of those symbols
represents a point in the narrator s life where he is either betrayed or made invisible by the people
around him. Through the book the two main recurring themes are betrayal and invisibility and the
narrator keeps these symbols with him because they represent who he... Show more content on

The crowd continually asks him to repeat himself and at one point the narrator miss speaks and
says social equality instead of social responsibility. This immediate arouses the whites in the
crowd. When they yell threats at him he Denys what he said and claims that the blood in his
mouth caused him to misspeak. In this incident the whites in the crowd immediately stop any
variation from what they want to hear coming out of the mouth of an African American. This is
another way that he is oppressed into being what people want him to be and therefore becoming
invisible. The narrator also feels betrayed when he sees Clifton with the doll. At that time the
narrator still considered himself a part of the brotherhood, and since the brotherhood would never
allow such a thing to be sold, Clifton is betraying the brotherhood and also the narrator himself.
Another symbolic item in the narrator s briefcase is the Sambo doll that brother Clifton was selling
illegally on the street. It is not the doll itself, but instead the circumstances surrounding Clifton s
death that make the doll significant. Before his death, the narrator meets brother Clifton, and
describes him as the ideal man. He is educated, well dressed, muscular, and has a stylish swag
about him, that the narrator admires. But we don t know Clifton long before he is shot. Clifton
suddenly drops from his original

The Hurt Locker, Directed by Kathryn Bigelow Essay
As most of you know by now the movie The Hurt Locker won the Oscar for movie of the year,
and this makes me very angry. My civilian friends keep asking me why I m so mad, because most
of them enjoyed watching it. Simply put it s because the movie is full of lies, exaggerations, and
ugly people. But it s a movie they say, of course it s not realistic . That s strange.. because the back
of The Hurt Lockerbox says Powerfully Realistic . Yet this movie is about as far from realism that
a movie can be (this claim includes all movies about time travel, and vampires, but excludes any
movies starring the Wayans brothers). Don t get me wrong here I m not a stickler for all military
realism. The military uniforms in the Transformers are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

When I first thought about writing this blog entry I considered writing a list of all the mistakes

Argentina. Also, going to Buenos Aires was a slang term for prostitution, and the night boat to
Liverpool may have been a reference to the mythological journey over the Styx river to the pagan

  • 2. The Valiant Five The Famous Five, or Valiant Five, was not only made up of five strong, independent women, but five role models. It started with Emily Murphy, a bright woman from Cookstown, Ontario, who was determined to make a difference for women all over Canada. She enlisted four other activists, Nellie McClung, Louise McKinney, Henrietta Edwards, and Irene Parlby, who would help her on her journey to get women legally recognised as persons in Canada. Although the five made history together, they each have very unique backstories and each of these women have helped to make a significant difference in the lives of women for many years to come. Emily Murphy was a women s rights activist and a feminist. She made history by becoming the first female judge in Canada for the British Empire, which opened numerous opportunities for other women. She challenged the idea that women were more than just housewives. Before this movement, though, she was a writer, best known for her humour and great concern for the welfare of women and children. After Murphy got married, her and her husband took a trip to the countryside, where she encountered a women who had been left in poverty due to her husband selling her family farm that she had been working on for some 18 years. Upon hearing this, Murphy was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She was a political activist and as a feminist, she questioned the traditional roles of women. As a school teacher, McClung didn t believe that certain sports were for men, and certain sports were for women. She believed that sports were gender neutral and she wanted the students she taught to believe in the same thing, so she would take them outside during recess and play football with them, which was not seen as a sport for ladies at the time. Her views on gender roles pushed her to speak out on the issue of equality. She decided to campaign on the topic of women suffrage and as a result, women were able to vote in ... • 3. The Tragedy Of Vladimir Lenin And The Rise Of Joseph Stalin Some of the most tragic moments in Russian history occurred during the tumultuous period between the death of Vladimir Lenin and the rise of Joseph Stalin during the 1930s. This was a time of massive devastation during which almost 5 million peasants died of starvation due to the failures of collective farming. Thousands of men and women were also falsely accused of anti patriotism and sent to Siberian labor camps in which they experienced rampant disease, physical and emotional abuse, and often execution. Vasily Grossman endeavors to discern who is to blame for these injustices through his novel Everything Flows . Grossman s main character, Ivan, has just been released from almost a thirty year imprisonment following the death of Stalin. Through Ivan s recollections of camp life and assimilation into Post Stalinist Russia, Grossman reveals the forces he believes are at fault. However, his understanding of this guilt is far more complex as revealed through the means by which he evaluates the culpable factors. Grossman uses a method of assessment similar to a bottom up analysis by beginning with the individual elements of the Communist Party and progressing to a larger holistic view of Russian civilization. This method allows for multiple factors to bear some of the blame without undue bias holding one entirely accountable. Thus, Grossman is arguing that the slave identity embedded in Russian history was responsible for the development of certain characteristics in Lenin s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Morality Of Henry V By William Shakespeare During Shakespeare s day, kings were often, along with the clergy, perceived and reverenced as God s delegates on earth, and Henry V was no exception. Nevertheless, in one of William Shakespeare s acclaimed plays about this monarch s life, Henry V, Shakespeare depicts Henry as far from ideal, even though Henry Vmay have also displayed certain admirable qualities at times. This is evinced by Henry Vs motives, aggression, and lies. First, Shakespeare displays Henry V s flawed character through his mixed, conflicting motives. Throughout the play, we find hints that a desire to do God s will motivated him throughout the play. Before he declared war against France, he sought the approval of God by way of the established English ecclesiastical authority, and even when he believed he was justified in his claim to rule France, he declared, For we have now no thought in us but France, / Save those to God, that run before our business (1.2.315 316). Furthermore, during the battle of Agincourt, he trusted God for his victory, and after the battle stated: And be it death proclaimed through our host / To boast of this or take that praise from God / Which is His only (4.8.119 121). It does not seem that such words could come... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This can first be seen in his attempt to capture France, which, although instigated by two English bishops, was an aggressive and unjustified campaign against a neighboring Christian country. The expense of war is immeasurably great, costing time, money, and, ultimately, lives, and should therefore only be engaged in at the last resort. And who can question that Henry V had a choice in his French campaign? Throughout the war, Henry V, in his unnecessary aggression against France, was also unnecessarily aggressive to her inhabitants. Through the life of Okonwo, the main character of Things Fall Apart, the roles of women in traditional Ibo culture are presented through various events that take place in the village of Umuofia. The Ibo believe that women are weak in every aspect of life. Men insult each other by calling each other women. An example of this is Okonwo s deep hatred and resentment for his father, Unoka, whom he considered a woman because of his carelessness to rank high in status among the Ibo, for his laziness, and him being an untitled man. In a kindred meeting of his peers, Okonwo unkindly tells Osugo, the man who had contradicted him in the meeting, This meeting is for men (26). Mr. Young voices his harsh disapproval of code switching in his paper, Should Writers Use They Own English? (Young 111) . This is offset by Rebecca Wheeler s gently persuasive technical paper explaining her implementation of Code switching which she titled, Code Switch to Teach Standard English (Wheeler 108) . Before we delve any further, let me share my understandingof communications. In the communications industry (think Telephone), there is a simple rule, in order for successful communication, the sender speaks their thoughts, which the telephone converts into an electronic signal that travels across a transmission medium, to the receiver s telephone where the signal is converted back into speech for the receiver to hear. If this process fails at any point, then communications fails. Applying this to written communications, if the sender writes in French and the receiver only speaks Japanese, then communications fails because the receiver could not understand what was written. To overcome this a translator of some form must be engaged to insure that the sender and receiver utilize the same language. Being more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 18. Film Analysis Of The Mise-En-Scene In Film The Mise en scene describes the elements and details in a scene of a film and the way they are shown and arranged. This being said, the lighting, makeup, costumes, setting and props are all key factors of Mise en scene. The setting in a film creates a sense of place, a mood, and may also reflect a character s emotional state. It can be entirely fabricated within a studio just like Rear Window or it may also be found and filmed on location. Perhaps the most easily visible aspect of mise en scene is costume. Costume can include both makeup or wardrobe choices that are used to convey a character s temperament or status, and to suggest these differences between characters. Lighting is a huge part of filmmaking. Lights are what a cinematographer uses to paint a set. They use lighting changes to help define characters, create a setting, or to portray how that character is feeling. In the next few paragraphs, I will point out all the cinimatograpgy of the Mise en scene from the clips from The Godfatherand Rear Window. The opening sequence of Rear Window is a curtain raiser... literally. it opens with the camera on the inside of J.B Jefferies(Jeff) s Livingroom in his apartment. The credits are shown on the scene of a window in jeffs apartment, while the blinds on the window behind them are slowly raised. Making me compare it to watching a production at the theater, where they raise the curtains at the start of the show. This opening scene takes the audience into a comfortable setting; we re in a seemingly nice neighborhood and it is a beautiful morning! As we start to take in the scene, The camera then cuts to an angled shot that is looking out of the window and down, where we follow a cat walking up the stairway and into the courtyard. The camera makes a brief stop at the ladder against the apartment building before it slowly tilts upwards (almost as if its were climbing the ladder!) the camera then stops at the upper apartment balcony where a small family can be seen getting ready. The camera then pans left, showing the audience all of the open windows on the apartment complex, where we can see that none of the windows has their curtains fully drawn or their blinds down for privacy. • 23. Environmental Effects Of Cadmium Environmental pollutants are becoming increasingly present throughout the world as industrial progress has expanded in countries like China. Among these environmental pollutants, Cadmium has been characterized as the most dangerous heavy metal ion because of its resiliency and numerous negative health effects (Kermani et. Al., 2010). Growing dependence on chemical fertilizer, wastewater irrigation, and uncontrolled discharge of industrial waste from activities, such as mining and smelting, has led to large amounts of Cadmium in soil (Nazar et. Al., 2012). Cadmium has adverse effects on plantlife. Cadmium competes with nutrients, such as Calcium, Magnesium, and Iron, that are also trying to get through the cell membranes of plant cells (Nazar et. Al., 2012). Specifically, disruption of the Calcium channel in plants with Cadmium can lead to an altered plant water relationship, causing, stomatal closure in many plants, leading to lower transpiration rate, and inhibitions of photosynthesisthrough an adverse effect on chlorophyll metabolism. (Nazar et. Al., 2012) Because Cadmium replaces the space that plants have for Calcium, the plants overall function is worsened because it changes the plant s relationship with water, causing the stomata, which oversee a plants respiratory function, to close. Under the shadow of this disillusionment, he wrote his masterpiece The First New Chronicle, as an outcry against the Spanish, and an argument in the fight for Andean resurgence. From his unique vantage point as a cultural mestizo, he criticized both the colonial Spanish and the Incas, whom he also considered to be colonizers of Andean tribes such as his own. China s consumption of soybeans ballooned by more than 160% between 2000 and 2011 when import barriers were removed, but the area planted with soybeans declined by 20% during those same years. The infomercials we see late on television, the billboards we see on the side of the road, the junk mail we receive, the links on the web pages we visit, and the radio commercials we hear all tie together to form this idea of pop culture. • 35. Western Dominance And Its Effects On The Global Economy Essay Modern history is composed of many false narratives of western dominance coming about as a result of some type of superiority, whether it was the European thought process, religion, culture, or even skin color. Western dominance, however, did not come from a place of superiority, but rather a streak of luck that allowed European countries to begin to colonize the rest of the world, cutting the world up into a few powerful colonial empires. Although today these colonial empires have diminished somewhat or entirely, the neoliberal policies and institutions that were put in place in the nineteen seventies continue to perpetuate the same power and economic inequalities that had been felt by colonies, on the current global economy. Neoliberalism reinforces the unequal power relationships through mechanisms that are designed generally to benefit the developed countries of the global north, while exploiting the cheap resources contained in the global south. The colonial division of labor was the tool of choice that European power s used to develop their infant industries to become competitive on the global market. Before the European or western rise to power, China and India were the dominant forces in global trade, exporting some of the finest products worldwide. Looking at the countries that have gender inequalities, I can see why they are not moving towards sustainability. In this essay, I will be providing detailed examples of how different countries treat their women and wives. In some countries, women and wives don t have the right to travel without their husband or their closest male relative s permission. In Egypt, Bahrain, and Syria, it is the husband s right to stop their wives from traveling out of the country. All the husband needs to do is file a complaint at the airport to prevent his wife from leaving the country. The husband doesn t even need to give the airport any reason for why he doesn t want his wife traveling. In other countries like Iraq, Jordan, Morocco, Oman, and Yemen, the husband needs to provide written permission for their wives to travel. Lastly in Saudi Arabia, for an unmarried woman to travel they must have written permission from their closest male relative. This written permission is for leaving the country or traveling on public transportation between the different parts of the country. In South Asia and Sub Saharan Africa, forty percent of women are married before their 18th birthday. The women don t have the right to choice their husbands. • 45. Summary Of Corrine Carvalho s Primer On Biblical... Introduction Biblical interpretation is an area that leaves historians and students perplexed. There are many questions as to when exactly a certain text was written, whom it was written by, origin of sources, etc. To answer these questions, Christian historians have developed methods in order to make sense of the messages in the bible. In particular, Corrine Carvalho s Primer on Biblical Methods works to critically explain and interpret scripture so readers feel less skeptical about the legitimacy of the text. These methods include the following: Source criticism, the reconstruction of written sources an ancient author may have used to compose a text. Form criticism, the way a final author has put a text together. Traditional criticism, the identification of traditions that an author employs in constructing new texts. Historical criticism, the historical circumstances that have led an author to write a given text (Carvalho, 2009, p. 3); they are encouraged for readers to use throughout the bible. If you look at Psalms, you will find prayers of a poetic nature, almost like a song like. This writing style often leaves the meaning of its text open for interpretation because it speaks in metaphors, it contains little to no defining statements. Carvalho s methods can be applied to Psalm 18. THEO 223 Endterm: Intermediate Exegesis Source Criticism Psalms 18 is the Psalm of King David. David provides several lines of imagery and metaphors in the beginning of the Psalm to emphasize the degree in which the Lord has helped him. The Lord also thundered in the heavens, and the most high uttered his voice (Attridge et al, 2006, Psalm 18:13, p. 746)...He reached down from on high, he took me; he drew me out of mighty waters (Attridge et al, 2006, Psalm 18:16, p. 747). However, the Psalm has an abrupt shift in subject matter that suggests the psalmist has put the whole thing together from separate sources. It begins with Psalm 18:20, The Lord rewarded me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanliness of my hands he recompensed me (Attridge et al, 2006, Psalm 18:20, p. 747). What about how much garbage is accumulating in our precious oceans and the effects that accumulation is having on us. These are questions I have always been particularly intrigued in finding the answers to, though I know that some of the answers that we have concluded are only estimates. To look further into this issue, Laura Parker wrote an article titled Eight Million Tons of Plastic Dumped in Ocean Every Year . Each one of those symbols represents a point in the narrator s life where he is either betrayed or made invisible by the people around him. Through the book the two main recurring themes are betrayal and invisibility and the narrator keeps these symbols with him because they represent who he... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is another way that he is oppressed into being what people want him to be and therefore becoming invisible. The narrator also feels betrayed when he sees Clifton with the doll. At that time the narrator still considered himself a part of the brotherhood, and since the brotherhood would never allow such a thing to be sold, Clifton is betraying the brotherhood and also the narrator himself. • 54. The Hurt Locker, Directed by Kathryn Bigelow Essay As most of you know by now the movie The Hurt Locker won the Oscar for movie of the year, and this makes me very angry. My civilian friends keep asking me why I m so mad, because most of them enjoyed watching it. Simply put it s because the movie is full of lies, exaggerations, and ugly people. But it s a movie they say, of course it s not realistic . That s strange.. because the back of The Hurt Lockerbox says Powerfully Realistic . Yet this movie is about as far from realism that a movie can be (this claim includes all movies about time travel, and vampires, but excludes any movies starring the Wayans brothers). Don t get me wrong here I m not a stickler for all military realism. The military uniforms in the Transformers are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So if Magneto is SO powerful why didn t he just rip up the foundations of the prison and take it to his evil hideout instead of relocating a bridge for an obviously suicidal frontal assault? Fantasmical stupidity at its finest and that is why X Men 3 will never live up to its predecessors. When I first thought about writing this blog entry I considered writing a list of all the mistakes the movie makes, but my list became way too long and boring. Instead I decided to describe just how outlandish The Hurt Locker is by writing my own movie script, but this one is the medical equivalent, I call this version The Hurt Locker: McDoogie Returns with a Vengeance Scene 1: Time: It s Go Time! Place: Decatur Memorial Hospital Doctor McDoogie: Alright nurse what do we got? Nurse 1: His heart was removed by a medicine man while his body was put into a pit of burning lava. It doesn t look good. McDoogie: I don t like your attitude nurse. Now get me a juice box. Nurse 1: Yes doctor. But wouldn t you like to put on your gloves first before you start operating? McDoogie: If this guy is going to die I might as well be comfortable while I m working on him. Nurse 2: Doctor what meds should we give him. McDoogie: Do what you think is ... A bell clangs, and Frank tries to pull her on board, but Eveline clutches an iron railing on shore, feeling that he will drown her in the seas of the world. She cries out and grasps the railing tighter while Frank calls to her, and she turns her helpless face to him without a glimpse of love or farewell or recognition, staying on shore as the boat pulls away. Characters Frank 2 Frank is a sailor planning to move to Buenos Aires and take his lover Eveline with him. He has told Eveline he intends to marry her, which may well be the case, but Frank is a mysterious character and there is some implication that his intentions are devious. He started his sailing career on a trade route associated with exile and full of stories about infamously savage tribes from Argentina. Also, going to Buenos Aires was a slang term for prostitution, and the night boat to Liverpool may have been a reference to the mythological journey over the Styx river to the pagan underworld both of which are implications that Frank might have no intention of marrying his lover, but instead is planning bring her into a situation she will find immoral. However, Frank is also described as kind, manly, open hearted and is set up as Eveline s only way to happiness, so he may indeed have only the best intentions in helping his lover to escape from her abusive household and difficult job. With no state individual or corporate income tax, Las Vegas has been able to get these much needed commercial industries to come to Las Vegas and stabilize its economy. Las Vegas has a typical desert climate, with hot summers, mild winters, year long sunshine and very little rainfall. Some may complain that it is too hot to live in Las Vegas over the summer. The high temperatures in the months of July and August normally exceed one hundred degrees, but as my Las Vegas local Daniel Rogalski can tell you, it s really not that bad: Las Vegas is hot over the summer, but it s not that bad.
