The Pros And Cons Of Standards Based Grading
Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently, Henry
Ford stated. Students need to learn to fail in life to eventually succeed. Standards
Based Grading (SBG) was created by Thomas R. Guskey. The point of SBG is to
focus on the most recent work the student displayed. Frankly, that concept is
unrealistic. The reality is traditional grading provides a more effective means of
showing student progress and engagement. Not only is traditional grading understood
universally, but the system motivates students to try their best on every assignment.
Standards Based Grading may make the learning environment more relaxed for
students, but is that always positive? To put it differently, civilians who have the
perception that SBG is better are not understanding the reality that traditional grading
is a more superior method. First and foremost, letter grades have been used since the
19th century without any complications. The traditional grading scale is universally
recognized. Virtually everyone knows that earning an A is good while earning an F
is associated with failure. The traditional grading scale is easy to interpret and
understand. The simplistic nature of the system makes it user friendly for teachers,
students, and parents. It also allows for a direct comparison from one student to
another within a specific class (Meador). Ultimately, parents remember and
understand the letter grading system. It s easy to be happy that their child earned an
Workplace Stress In Canada
Hello everyone. This is EUNJU.
Due to a lack of work experience in Canada, I have concern about my future career
life.
And, to achieve my career goals effectively, I think that being aware of a workplace
stress can be useful and helpful because it should be a part of workplace culture.
Therefore, based on what I have researched and what I have interviewed for the
workplace stress,
I decide to do my presentation on the topic of what s bugging you at work .

Sir Thomas Malory s Excalibur
When you think of the name Sir Thomas Malory you might think of a brave knight
who fights in the great battles. Believe it or not but this guy spent most of his life
in jail. Historians claimed that this guy committed crimes like stealing cattle and
other things. Malory loved to hunt and compete. There was a very good chance
that he wrote a collection of books while he was in jail because he was knight and
probably let him have access to books. In the collections of books that he wrote
there was one called From Morte D Arthur and in this story and a movie called
Excaliburthere are 3 messages of chivalry.
First of I will tell you what chivalry is. Chivalry is seen today but started out back in
king Arthur s day. It is the code of the knights. Things like being loyal, honest, and
courage. For example when a lady walks in you stand up and if there is no seat then
you give up your own seat for the lady. Also you always respect your elders so if
there is no seat available then like a lady, you would give up your seat. In King
Arthur s time if you were a knight you had to obey they code of the knight which
was the code of chivalry. The code made it so if you were a knight then you were not
able to have a wife but you were able to have a girl to fight for. It was a life time deal
with the king to keep your code of chivalry and devote your life to the good cause of
the king and the Kingdome. In the movie Excalibur one knight showed his loyalty to
his king Arthur by doing
Thief Of Always Character Analysis
Clive Barker s The Thief of Always truly develops the story through Harvey and
Wendell s friendship. Harvey is a brave kind friend to Wendell who on the other
hand, is a scaredy cat, and doesn t always appreciate what Harvey does for him.
The two friends work together and are on a quest to go home but when a stranger
walks up onto Harvey s front porch he is forced to turn back and defeat Mr. Hood.
Harvey unlike Wendell hasn t been at the Holiday House for very long. Wendell
knows the in s and out s of the house, while Harvey and Wendell work together to
defeat Mr. Hood. Wendell shows Harvey what he knows about the house and
together, take back what Hood stole. Clive Barker truly shows the significance of the
similarities, differences, and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Harvey is easily the bravest person in the holiday house. The first place that Harvey
shows his bravery is when he is transmutes into a vampire. The narrator of the story
admits that Harvey is brave enough to do this prank to Wendell. His cry became a
whoop;his terror to joy (46). This quote explains how Harvey cares about Wendell
and didn t want to harm him at first but when Jive pushed off the roof and into the
night sky he was brave. He also has a mischievous side underneath all the sweet,
caring Harvey. Harvey s joy got the best of him and turned into bravery. Wendell is
a coward compared to his best friend Harvey. Wendell truly shows his cowardness
when Harvey transforms himself into a vampire. Wendell cries for mercy and
eventually gets his way. Don t kill me! Please, please, I beg you don t kill me (46)!
This quote truly proves that Wendell is a coward. It also proves he doesn t have
the investigation side to this scene. Harvey knows when something is wrong or
something isn t right. And this shows that Wendell does not have what it takes to
be as brave as Harvey. This exemplifies that Wendell is not the hero but the hero s
sidekick who later on, helps Harvey a lot. This is the most important part of Harvey
and Wendell s friendship. They care about each other. Harvey is kind about Wendell s
weaknesses.
Thesis Statement On Graphene
When I was child, there was a Television program called, MacGyver was telecast
every Wednesday in a week which I enjoyed most. How the MacGyver works to
solve serious problem with everyday items was very much intriguing to me. Since
then I have been always trying to solve things, no matter it is beyond me or not. My
father told me that learn mathematics properly if you want to be like MacGyver. I
guess that was the unintentionally foundation for me to be an engineer.
I was very much fascinated to science since my childhood and still now, which
actually played a vital role to be an engineer as an engineer knows better how to
relate theoretical mathematics with practical field. Mathematics is more like magic

My undergraduate thesis topic was Analysis the transport properties of graphene
using Ensemble Monte Carlo Simulation in which I studied electrical conductivity,
effect of temperature on graphene by varying temperature, effect of electric field on
drift velocity, effect of scattering on mobility, observed its some mechanical
properties like stress enduring capability etc. in a form of carbon nanotube. The most
amazing fact about graphene is it may be a metal or a semiconductor or a semi metal
depending its indexes. Carbon nanotube is actually cylindrical form of graphene
sheet. By using tight binding model(TB), I got electronic band structure of graphene
which was the basis for the Monte Carlo Simulation as it is superior then Boltzmann
transport equation(BTE) for analyzing band structure. I have decent command on
MathLab programming language. I acquired A+ grade in my thesis and not only in
the thesis but also I got good grade in all semiconductor related subjects in my
undergraduate level. Nowadays research programs related to graphene has been a
sign of advancement for any institution whether it is educational or
Theme Of Gender In The Victorian Age
The issue of gender has long been a point of discussion in literature. From the
medieval period to the renaissance to the modern age, issues of the status of men
and women in society has always served as a way of opening further thought and
dialog for social progression. Perhaps one of the most significant period in literature
for the theme of gender is the Victorian Age; as industrialization, socialism, women s
suffrage and the expansion of the rights of children take root and blossom in the mid
to late 19th century, so too do the ideas of the equality of men and women as capable
human beings. Though controversial at the time, the works that stemmed from this
period played a significant role in addressing the idiosyncrasies and problems of
gender in the Victorian Era. Christina Rossetti s poems Goblin Market and No,
Thank You, John , as well as Annie Besant s The White Slavery of London Match
Workers , address how little sovereignty women have over their own affairs; in
fact, it is quite often that women risk much in order to attain the justice and equity
that they deem is owed to them. The lack of gender parity in Victorian society
results in a need for women to toe the line of tradition and social expectation or risk
social exile, their livelihood and even their own lives. It is this strength of character
and willingness to sacrifice oneself in the pursuit of improved and equal rights for
women that led to much of the social change that transpired in and around
Uncle Tom s Cabin Religion
In the novel, Uncle Tom s Cabin, the author, Harriet Beecher Stowe, proposes that
the Bible was utilized to justify the system of slavery. Stowe proposes in her novel
that in the 1800 s, slave owners believed bible verses excused brutal slavery. Stowe
also made the audience realize this with the characters she used in Uncle Tom s
Cabin. Stowe allowed her readers to view how slavery and religion shaped the
society of the 1800 s. Throughout Uncle Tom s Cabin, Augustine St. Clare implied
that slave owners used religion in their own way to excuse their behavior towards
slaves. Stowe s character named Augustine St. Clare, lacked Christian faith. St.
Clare believed slave owners altered the meaning of bible verses to support their
views of society. As St. Clare says, Religion! Is what you hear at church, religion?
Is that which can bend and turn, and descend and ascend, to fit every crooked phase
of selfish, worldly society, religion? (Stowe 262). The quote proves St. Clare
realized the evil ways slave owners used to think. The... Show more content on

During the 1800 s, Preachers deceived the society by influencing the brutality of
slavery, saying it was made permissible by the Bible. This was specifically outlined
in the novel when Marie St. Clare spoke about her experience at church. Marie St.
Clare is a character in the novel that Stowe introduced to show the ignorance and
stubbornness many people acquired similar to that of Marie. Marie believed it
was a good thing to have slaves because the church endorsed. As Marie quotes,
...beautiful, that some should be high and some low, and that some were born to
rule and some to serve, and all that, you know; and he applied it so well to all this
ridiculous fuss that is made about slavery, and he proved distinctly that the Bible
was on our side... (Stowe 260). The quote demonstrates why many slave owners did
not believe their horrid actions were evil

The Sun Research Paper
The Sun
Introduction:
The sun is the main star in the solar system and is the most important source for
energy for earth to have life. The suns diameter is 109 times earth and it is has a
mass 330,000. 3 quarters of the suns mass is hydrogen, the rest is mostly made up of
helium, with much smaller quantities of heavier elements, including oxygen, carbon,
neon and iron. The sun is a G type main sequence star and it is referred to as a yellow
dwarf. It formed approximately 4.567 billion years ago from the gravitational
collapse of matter within a region of a large molecular cloud. The Sun is the brightest
object in the sky, with an apparent magnitude of 26.74. This is 13 billion times
brighter than the next brightest star, Sirius, which has an ... Show more content on

It has enough hydrogen left to continue to burn Hydrogen for about another 5 billion
years.
The Sun has a very strong magnetic field: Solar flares occur when magnetic force is
released by the Sun during magnetic storms. We see magnetic storms as sunspots. In
these sunspots, the magnetic lines are twisted and they spin.
The temperature inside of the Sun can reach up to 15 million degrees Celsius: In
the Suns core, energy is made by the suns nuclear fusion, as the Hydrogen converts
to Helium. Because hot objects usually expand, the Sun would explode like a
massive bomb if it weren t for its huge gravitational force!
The Sun creates solar wind: Solar wind is a stream of charged particles, which travels
through the Solar System at nearly 450 kilometres per second. Solar wind can occur
where the magnetic field of the Sun goes into space instead of following its original
surface.
Discussion: The Sun is the star at the centre of the Solar System and is by far the
most important source of energy for life on Earth. The sun is in the dead centre of
the solar system. The suns changes distance from the earth varying from 147 to 152
million kilometres.
O Brien sSweetheart Of Song Tra Bong
Departing to war will affect everyone in different ways. It does not matter if you
are a man or woman, boy or girl, college student or adult, in love or not in love.
Every person will change. The way that a person changes in war depends on whether
or not they are in Vietnam on their own accord. Those people that are there because
they wantto are positively changing and those people that are there because they
had to be there get negatively affected. When O Brien came back from the war, he
could have viewed himself as others viewed him, someone with great courage.
Instead, he decided to view himself as a coward. Mary Anne could have left Vietnam
when her boyfriend told her to instead of following her mind. Cross could have held
onto the hope that his lovefor Martha brought him. This has a great significance to it
because one simple factor can alter someone s entire life, for good or for bad.
In another chapter from The Things They Carried titled Sweetheart of Song Tra
Bong , Mark Fossie is inviting his girlfriend Mary Anne to visit him for some time
in Vietnam during the war. At first, Mary Anne is embodying a feminine persona,
wearing pink, jewelry, and makeup. As time passes on, Mary Anne expresses more
and more interest in the war and even starts participating in war like activities. A
passage in Sweetheart of Song Tra Bong writes, Once or twice, gently, Mark Fossie
suggested that it might be time to think about heading home, but Mary Anne laughed

Comparing The Coastal People And The Plateau People
The Coastal People and the Plateau People are two native American cultures that
shared the environment in Washington. Coastal people lived west of the Cascades in
Washington. The Plateau people lived east of the Cascades. Even though they are
different native American cultures, they had many things in common. Both native
American cultures live in Washington on either side of the Cascades. The Coastal
people adapted well to the wet climate. They mostly relied on the nearby ocean for
food like sea mammals and whales. They took advantage of the forest area and cut
down the cedar trees to make permanent longhouses. They also carved masks, totem
poles, and carved stones. Even though they had the wet climate, they stayed in the
same area.

The Machu Picchu Trail
In the whole wide world, there is no better activity than trekking Peru. While a lot of
Americans are under the impression is for a younger generation, the truth is that the
hikes can be accomplished by just about any body that is in reasonably good health.
Certainly, the thing that even the most cynical person will admit is that the hiking on
the Machu Picchu trail is among the treasured wonders of the world. The thing that
so many Americans are worried about is safety. There is this giant misconception
about what the country of Peru is like. While the notion of the third world is

and 90s, the truth is that there isn t very much different between the countries in the...

The people of Peru are the kindest and heart warming people on the planet. In my
journeys across the globe, I have never encountered a population nor a culture that
did as much to welcome into their world. I think that the most important thing for me
as a traveller is to connect with and to understand the people of the places that I
travel too. The easiest place that I have found to obtain that connection has been in
Peru. Another thing that many Americans talk about is that they are unsure about the
ease of travel in Peru. There seems to be a concern about finding guides and
navigating successfully. The simple answer to that question is that there are
numerous outfitters that specialize in taking Americans across the country and
trekking in all of the most beautiful spots. Obviously Machu Picchu will be on every
first time visitor s list. But there are numerous other attractions that make trekking
Peru a world class destination. The Inca site of Choquequirao can be trekked into by
way of a 5 day hike that includes a five thousand feet elevation gain. Another world

Peru s Human Development Index Essay
During the majority of the nineteenth century, Peru had consistently struggled with a
turbulent political history, especially regarding its stability. The incapability of
institutions to solidify, which contributes the the lack of political stability, occurred
from quick successions of government and constant reforms within the political
structure (Weeks, 2015). But regardless of Perus record of political instability, steps
have been taken in the recent years to consolidate its democracy and reach for
economic policies that are market friendly.
Although Peru is a developing country, it has a high human development index that
has been strengthening over the years. According to the Human Development
Reports from the United Nations Development Programme, Peru s Human
Development Index (HDI) ranking has increased from approximately .6 in 1990 to
.734 in 2014, and has retained this ranking the following year (UNDP, 2015). Peru
is also rated at 2.5 out of 7 in freedom (Freedom House, 2015). As for human
security, Peru has a homicide rate of 9.6 per 100,000 people, which is nearly
double the homicide rate of the United States (UNDP, 2015). According to the same
2014 reports, Peru s ranking under the Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) is set
as .043, meaning that 10.4% of the population falls under multidimensional poverty,
and 2.1% live under severe multidimensional poverty (UNDP, 2015). From recent
years, there has been a rise of demand for a final solution to income
Sagmeister Essay
Introduction How art is presented in a museum is based off guidelines. The shows
cannot be too crowded, there has to be a flow to the pieces, and there has to be a
concept behind the curation of the art. This process can take years depending on the
size of the show; both floor plans and 3D models are created to curate shows. Shows
in other countries and cities will follow similar guidelines. Some exhibits may have
more money put into them and more thought about the curation, but generally there
will be a concept, and flow to the pieces shown. I walked around the impressionist
and post impressionist exhibit in the Chicago Institute of Arts, passing wildly famous
pieces such as A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte and countless...

Sagmeister is famous for his installation artwork that is shown all over the world.
Sagmeister is Austrian born, whose career started at age 15 writing for a
magazine, leading to his interest in the layout of his articles instead of actually
writing them. As a student, he studied in both Vienna, Austria and New York City,
USA. The thought put into his installations revolves around the idea of happiness
and one s self where not only is his goal to make others happy with his work, but
also to make himself happy. Sagmeister works famously with typography in his
pieces as well as the color yellow. The goal of his art is to invoke a response from
the audience, to make them have strong feelings about his art, which is expressed
in his series of works What I ve Learned in my Life So Far . The works shown in
his booklets highlight the creative process of his works. In his pieces, there is
ultimately a story behind them; a story that drives the piece to become what you see
on the wall, billboard, sign, etc. The stories inspire the installation but despite each
story being vastly different, there is a common theme throughout most of his works,
what is important in life and what makes you
Research Paper On Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow was an influential American writer in the 19th
century. Born in Maine in 1807, Longfellow was 5 years old when the War of 1812
occurred. In a poem he wrote much later in life, My Lost Youth , Longfellow
recounts begging his father for a toy drum. Being a small child, Longfellow could
not grasp the magnitude of what was happening mere miles away in the Atlantic
Ocean. The Longfellow family was so close to some battles that both British and
American men who died in battle were buried down the street. Later in life,
Longfellow contemplated in his writing how much of a blessing the opportunity of
being alive meant to him. Henry Longfellow anonymously submitted his first poem in
the local Portland Gazette at the
Differences Of Squid And Octopus
What is these creatures? Squid and Octopus are categories in sub marine animal.
Squid and Octopus are still one family, both of these animals are The Cephalopoda
family. What is Cephalopoda? Cephalopods, is the class of mollusks which
scientists classify octopuses, squid, cuttlefish and nautiluses, can change color
faster than a chameleon. They can also change texture and body shape, and, and if
those camouflage techniques don t work, they can still disappear in a cloud of ink,
which they use as a smoke screen or decoy. (Wood,2017) This species is common

Octopuses and squids can swim in any direction and can alter their course quickly.
Squids use fins located on their heads to propel themselves when swimming at low
speeds. These fins steer and stabilize the squids when moving slowly, and wrap
around the body when they move quickly, by way of jet propulsion. Most octopuses
do not have fins as adults. Some deep water octopuses are exceptions. (Octopuses
Squids,n.d)
How do octopuses and squids reproduce? The male octopus uses a specialized arm
called a hectocotylus to transfer sperm to the mantle cavity of a receptive female.
The female lays strings of fertilized eggs on the roof of her den. She guards, cleans
and aerates the eggs with water expelled from her siphon until hatching. This can
be anywhere from 30 days to a year, depending on the species. The female may
build a wall of rocks to seal off the den and will remain in the den until just before
she dies, after the eggs have hatched. Squids often mate in large groups, and attach
their egg capsules to the ocean floor or to seaweed. Most adult octopuses and squid
die after reproducing. Their bodies are recycled in the food web, nourishing other
animals, and ultimately providing food for their young when they hatch. (Octopuses

Language Shapes Our Society s Communication And
Thoughts
Language shapes our society s communication and thoughts in more ways than one.
It is constantly evolving, which is why it is important to be mindful of what is said
anywhere one may be. Words that may not typically offend one person may be
hurtful to someone else. Many of the people that are most forgotten about are those
with disabilities, minor or severe. Since person first language has been defined, it has
given a voice and boosted the self esteem to many of those that society often forgets.
Through time we have come to understand that Person First Language is important
for the equality and acceptance of people with disabilities.
Throughout history, people with disabilities have always been victimized. The bible
tells many tales of people who were disabled. In these stories, they were referred to as
crippled (Charles 31). The stereotype of disability has evolved from people being
referred to as crippled to Disreputables , which were people used as entertainment
in the middle ages (Charles 34), then to Waste Humanity , which were people that
were sterilized and killed because they were deemed unfit to live in the mid 1900s
(Charles 38 39). This gives insight to the evolution of a problem that is just recently
being addressed. Today, calling people crippled, disreputables, and waste humanity is
considered dehumanizing. People in communities were not properly educated or
prepared to deal with people who were mentally or physically different. Awareness
was brought
Historical And Medical Background Of Agnosia
Historical and Medical Background of Agnosia
Agnosia is a rare neurological disorder that affects one s capability to recognize
people or objects based on the affected sense (Coslett, 2007; National Institute of
Neurological Disorders and Stroke, 2014). There are three observed types of agnosia:
Visual, Auditory, and Tactile (Coslett, 2007; Marotta Behrmann 2002). Visual agnosia
is the most common type because the brain devotes the most energy and resources to
visual processing than processing of any of the other senses (Coslett, 2007). Since it
is the most common, and therefore has the most research available, visual agnosia
will be the primary focus of this paper.
Sigmund Freud coined the term agnosia which means without knowledge and
although the term stands today, it is now known that those with agnosia actually have
knowledge of what they are seeing but do not have the ability to connect perception
to knowledge. As Marotta and Behrmann observed in two case studies, those with
visual agnosia are able to identify and recognize object through sound, touch or a
description of function or appearance (Marotta Behrmann, 2002; Coslett, 2007),
proving that knowledge of the object is present.
Heinrich Lissauer, a German neurologist, divided visual agnosia into two
subcategories: apperceptive and associative agnosia. Apperceptive agnosia is when a
perceptual representation cannot even be derived from vision, meaning everything
can be seen, the visual acuity and physical

Dissociation of Learned Helplessness and Fear Conditioning in Mice: A Mouse
Model of Depression

Introduction and Hypothesis
Trans situation is the concept of a stimulus being reinforced in one situation, and
therefore this stimulus will be reinforced in another situation. In this study, the
stimulus of a trans situation is learned helplessness. In previous studies done on
learned helplessness, the domain and stressors were the same. Furthermore, there was
an inability to escape a certain domain. This caused a fear conditioning of the domain,
not a universal state of helplessness. Thus, this experiment was conducted to obtain a
state of learned helplessness without the influence of fear conditioning.

All mice were men. The ages of the mice were 8 weeks old, and all mice were
delivered from the Jackson Laboratory in Sacramento, CA, USA. The mice were
taken through a five day adaptation phase where they were disconnected from the
other mice. This helped elude the susceptibility that would cause a sensitivity to
stress. If present in the experiment, stress sensitivity would affect the learned
helplessness. Within the five day adaptation phase, the mice were placed within a
vented cage that contained necessities such as food, water, and a place to sleep.
After five days, the mice were subjected to a three day learned helplessness
procedure. Some mice underwent additional testing. Each procedure was conducted
in an isolated room that was near where their cages were
Frost, By Robert Lee Frost
As Robert Lee Frost, an honored American poet once said, A poem begins as a
lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. Frost earned
respect through his expertise in colloquial language, and his descriptive
interpretations of rural life. Frost often analyzed social and philosophical leitmotifs
using settings from early twenty first century New England. Frost was honored in his
lifetime with four Pulitzers. Furthermore, focusing mostly on analyzing Frost s most
popular works, whilst taking you through his life, and the events that shaped his
poems, To begin, Robert Lee Frost was born on March 26, 1874, in San Francisco,
where his parents relocated shortly after marrying. At eleven years old, Frost s father
died from tuberculosis, and shortly after Frost, his sister, and his mother moved to
Massachusetts. Frost became interested in literature and poetryduring his high school
years at Lawrence High School, where he would graduate co valedictorian, with the
woman he would later marry. In the fall of 1892, Frost enrolled in Dartmouth
College, only to return home after one semester to work various jobs. In 1984, Frost
would publish his first poem, My Butterfly: An Elegy. As his first poem, My
Butterfly: An Elegy truly displays Frost s true natural talent. The poem portrays the
loss of life through the form of a passing of a butterfly, compared complexly to its
surroundings, including Frost himself. Reminiscing to a moment when he watched the
Symbols In The Lord Of The Flies
Symbols have a huge meaning in the world such as survival and books, like in The
Lord Of The Flies, written by William Golding. The author of this book shows how
symbols can be found in human nature and society as well. Throughout the book,
symbols can be seen being used by the author in different ways to help connect the
book with the aspects of the outside world. In the beginning of the book, symbolsare
shown by representing the important needs, yet the symbols progressively begin to
grow more meaning later in the chapters. Some of the important objects and
symbols at the beginning of the book are the conch and the fire. In chapter 1 Ralph
meets Piggy and begin to realize they are stuck on an island. A stone. No a shell,
(15), these quotes are from when they first find the conch shell and Ralph blows in
it the different people on the island assume he is the leader of the group. Leadership
and power are the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Symbols such as the fire and the beast are found in today s society as well as in the
book. The fire to Ralph in the book is shown as a sign of safety and potentially
rescue, The fire s the most important thing. Without the fire we can t be rescued...
(142). This relates to society today because having a fire in a wilderness could be
safe from other people and if lost somewhere you could get rescued. The Beast in
today s society is the id and what we think is right from wrong as well as decision
making. In the book the boys mental capacity decreases throughout because there are
no rules and they haven t been living in a good environment for some time.
Connections through symbols and today s world are shown and present in many
parts of the book, and the author does this to show that symbols have a deeper
meaning than what they just are by
A Christian At The Age Of 14
Author Information: (see attached resume for additional information) I became a
Christian at the age of 14, partly as a result of being taught evolution in public
school. Learning about evolution made me very unsettled. I reasoned that if
evolution were true, then my life was a result of a series of random accidents and
therefore my life had no purpose. I heard a clear gospel presentation and trusted
Christ as my savior as a freshman in high school. Since that time, I have had an
avid interest in the scientific evidence that proves the biblical creation account true
and evolution false. I worked for 35 plus years as a hydrologist with the U.S.
Geological Survey (USGS). Initially, as a research hydrologist studying the
quantity and quality of river water. I later moved into water science management
positions and lastly served as an executive responsible for the all the surface water
related activities of the USGS in the U.S.A. As an executive, I was also designated
as the Delaware River Master. As River Master, I administered the provisions of
the 1954 U.S. Supreme Court Decree allocating the waters of the Delaware River.
My career with the USGS has provided me with a wealth of education and
experience in all aspects fresh water related science and science management.
During my career with the USGS, I authored or co authored about 40 scientific and
lay reader reports, proceedings paper, and abstracts. Since becoming a Christian, I
have had a keen interest in scientific
The Myers Briggs Personality Test
We all are created equally yet we all uniquely different. Our culture, lifestyle,
habits, family and life experiences shape us into who we are and why we do some
of the things we do. With these differences in us, conflicts are bound to happen
with any formed relationship we have between family and co workers. I believe
this is the reason, amongst others, why the Myers Briggs personality test was
created; to understand diversity and help us learn and become better individuals to
the world at large. This paper evaluates the results of my Myers Briggs test and how
it applies in my personal life and career. Furthermore, I discuss what I have learned
and how it it would benefit me in the future. пѓјNeeds work The Myers Briggs
personality test is designed to categorize human personality and behavior. Based
on Carl Jung s theory, Katherine C. Briggs and her daughter, Isabel Briggs Myers
developed this process which includes 16 personality types to help people
understand their psychological personality type (The Myers Briggs Foundation,
2016). Each personality type is represented by four letters, and the letters are
indicators of which category of preference an individual fall into. Step I: The Result
After taking the personality test, my result turned out to be ESFJ. ESFJ stands for
Extravert, Sensing, Feeling and Judging respectively. This personality type is also
known as the caregivers or the providers. Below is a summary of the test result.

Comparing Sweat And The Garden Party
How many things can a story about a washerwoman in the South have in common
with a story about a girl from a high class society? There is plenty. The short stories
Sweat and The Garden Party are both different and similar in more than one way.
Although the use of structure and symbolism are different, but the tones in these
stories are quite similar. First of all the use tones. In both Sweat and The Garden
Party , the attitudes the authors have about the topics are sympathetic and caring,
some may even think they are worried or frustrated. Sweat focuses on the idea of
feminism, and The Garden Party is centered around class. Both of the authors are
expressing their feelings about these topics and it shows through their writing.
Neither of them are fond of their story s theme, and they want the readers to see that.

The two selections are both in chronological order with climaxes at the end, the
two main characters are female, and their oppositions are both members of their
own family, in Sweat , Delia s opposition is her husband, while Laura from The
Garden Party is against her family s ideas and beliefs. Sweat does use a lot of
dialect when depicting what the townspeople are talking, and it uses more
dialogue than The Garden Party . There are multiple plots in The Garden Party ,
including Laura s family, the Sheridans, and the family of the man who dies while
Sweat focuses mainly on Delia and her life. In Sweat , the cause of Syke s death is
him getting a snake to scare Delia, his wife; the cause in The Garden Party is the
villager dying, which led to Laura learning about living in a high society
Essay about History of D-Day
History of D Day
During the 1930 s, isolationism and the depression swept through the
United States. But before the fall of France in 1940, the United States was
starting to pull away from being neutral, which they claimed at the beginning of
the European war.
Americans and the British would hold conversations between themselves
known as the ABC talks. It was there that they both targeted Germany as their
prime enemy. Even though there was tension in the Pacific in 1941, American
leaders had agreed that any war that was going to occur between Japan and the
United States had to be secondary. Our prime target was Germany, and that s
what we would focus on defeating.
Roosevelt soon concluded that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the defeat of Germany was the objective, then the
mission was to attack at the heart of German power as early and as forcefully as
possible.
With this, careful consideration of Army mobilization and training, military
construction, naval and merchant shipbuilding revealed that the Army could
expect to go over to the offensive no earlier than July 1, 1943. Achieving the
necessary military conditions for attack, though simple to state, was more an
uncertain proposition. Wedemeyer suggested in his plan that no invasion of
Europe could succeed until the navies defeated the Axis fleets and secured the
Atlantic lines of communication.
The Allies however, had managed to take control of the air. They would
bomb Germany on a regular basis, this way Germany could keep down on their
production of war materials, and disrupt their economy.
Before the U.S had officially entered the war, plans existed for the defeat
of Germany. The plan heavily relied on an invasion of the continent of Europe,
in order to strike the heart of Germany. The U.S. sought to weaken their military
buildup, and heighten ours in Britain.
For a period of time, there was much contemplation of attacking Germany
from the Mediterranean, where the British had already been succeeding in
defeating the Germans. Americans had to reject the idea of the Mediterranean
approach due to the fact it was impossible to concentrate full Allied
Robin Thicke s Song Blurred Lines
Goats, half naked ladies, and hashtags; yet the most memorable thing about Robin
Thicke s song, Blurred Lines , is the lawsuit that surrounds it. Most fans of Marvin
Gaye will be able to recognize his song Got to give it up and the way it was ripped
off by Robin Thicke. But the issue goes deeper than just plagiarism; there is also the
issue of cultural appropriation. A songoriginally done by a Black man was stolen,
had the lyrics changed, and put back out with someone else claiming credit for the
work. This is not new for Black artists. The genre of rock came from Rhythm and
Blues, or R B, which came from jazz, and so on through Black tradition. Yet as time
has shown, there has always been a dominant White force that comes in and adopts,...

On a larger scale, musical appropriation fits neatly in with cultural appropriation,
because music is so ingrained in culture. According to Toni Lester, a music and law
scholar, in an article for Hastings Communications and Entertainment Law Journal,
cites a music critic as saying, [T]he difference is that Thicke [...] is getting the kind
of exposure that other black R B artists aren t, an attention magnified by the color
of Thicke s skin (Lester, 2014). The real issue behind appropriation is the lack of
recognition for the original song, or artists, or racial group whose ideas and
culture created that music. Lester differentiates two views on appropriation, the
view that adoption of culture of the minority of the majority is problematic, and
the view that the melting pot of ideas in America works to create better art (Lester,
2014). These two ideas give very different meanings to appropriation and how we
can view it in regards to today s society. In a podcast for NPR, co host Justin
Charity talked about what makes something appropriation, saying about pop stars
trying to expand across cultures, How do I engage with another culture that my
brand is pretty removed from? And they almost always botch it (NPR, 2016). He is
explaining that it is possible to cross pollinate culture, however most of the time when
it is done;
Treatment Options For Aid Individuals With Substance
Problems
There are various treatment options available to aid individuals with substance
problems. Such methods include counseling, both inpatient and/or outpatient that can
be done individually or in a group setting. Long term residential treatment consists of
24 hour treatment, where the individual lives at the facility. Out patient treatment can
be described as a less intensive treatment program, that does not cost as much as long
term residential treatment and is useful for people who have an occupation or other
commitments that they cannot neglect for a period of time (National Institute on
Drug Abuse, 2012). As well as, there are 12 Step Programs that are group based.
Some common 12 Step programs include Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), Narcotics
Anonymous (NA), and Al Anon, which is for friends and families of alcoholics (The
AddictionRecovery Guide, 2015). A study conducted by Kelly, Stout, and Slaymaker,
looked at the effectiveness of 12 step programs starting with intake, 3 months, 6
months, and 12 months. Participants were emerging adults so varied between 18 24
years of age. 303 participants were included in the study. They were able to gather
that 36% of individuals attended meetings prior to treatment, rose to 89% by 3
months, 82% continued to attend at 6 months, and declined to 76% by 12 months.
Also, participants attended approximately 3 meetings per a week. How often
someone attended 12 step meetings did not impact effectiveness compared to
involvement at the meetings
the Impact of a Tropical Storm Depends on Location How...
The Impact of a Tropical Storm depends on location How far do you agree?
Tropical storms formed 5 30 degrees north of the equator, so if there is a largely
populated area or economic centre around this latitude, in an area vulnerable to
hurricanes, the impact will be increased in comparison to the tropical storm running
its course over unpopulated islands or the ocean. This can be seen when looking at
Hurricane Sandy, a tropical storm of 2012 and its impact on Cuba. Cuba was
located in the Hurricane s path and so obviously the Hurricane caused damage.
However, because an area of considerable economic value to the country, Cuba s
Santiago de Cuba, was in located in the aforementioned storm path and damaged
significantly, for example ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore because of this storm surge, the stock exchange was closed for two days
and this resulted in mass losses economically. This is a good example of how the
title is correct in what it is saying storm surges being less of a threat to built up areas
on higher ground or ground further inland. Sandy cost New York $42 billion.
However storm surges also impact those further inland as well, and this is can be
seen through the secondary impacts of Hurricane Sandy. Severe flooding along the
coast dumped about eleven billion gallons of raw and untreated sewage in the
waterways from Washington DC to Connecticut this resulting in more damage than
flooding alone. This starts to convey weaknesses in the essay title, that perhaps it is
too simplistic in its assertion.
Moreover, when looking at the impact of a tropical storm we see that it isn t just
the location that affects the extent of said impact. What is arguably more influential
on the impact of tropical storm is the level of wealth possessed by the country hit.
This again is illustrated by Hurricane Sandy. Hurricane Sandy hit both Cuba and the
USA, one an LEDC the other the wealthiest country in the world. In the USA,
money was raised by the people of the country through television companies such as
Disney ABC, NBC, and News Corporation raising a total of $41 billion dollars to
help the area hit
Insider Trading Is The Tip Of The Iceberg
Executive Summary ABC News reported that Oliver Curtis, who is investment
banker, was sentenced guilty of insider trading. Since 1973, there have only been 79
insider trading cases brought before the courts, in what lawyers said could just be
the tip of the iceberg. Insider trading occurs where a person trades in shares or other
financial products with possession of confidential information that is not available to
public. Insider tradingis also prohibited under Div. 3 of Pt. 7.10 of Corporations
Act. Some of researches insisted that insider trading is necessary as a price
accelerator and brings the price of securities to their proper level more quickly.
However, most experts such as financial experts, or lawyers, insist that insider
trading is harmful to market, small investors, or traders. The most common view of
insider trading is harmful because it brings unfairness to the person, who do not have
the inside information. With these arguments and Oliver Curtis case, this report
define concept of Insider trading and relevant terms. After that, it will analyse
advantageous side and disadvantageous side of insider trading, and then what benefit
could get from insider trading. As a developed argument, this report will discuss why
insider trading is harmful to market and need to be prohibited with Oliver Curtis case.

Problem-Based Learning Analysis
Problem based learning (PBL) has been a great new learning experience throughout
this semester. Throughout the course of the semester, I feel that I have learned many
new skills that I can use and apply throughout my career as an occupational therapist
(OT). First, I believe that PBL has taught me to be a betterproblem solver. Each
week, a new piece of a case was given to us and each week the goal was to dissect
this case into objective, measurable outcomes. In the beginning, I often found myself
getting too caught up in the minute details of the case. Although details are important,
through PBL I have learned to focus my attention onto details of the story that are
larger and more measurable. As a future OT, I need to be able to formulate
Calypso Song Analysis
The 1940 s was a time of conflict, despair, and hope to everyone who was involved
in war of the giants. World War II, as the name states was a conflict on a global
scale, with a plethora of nations involved. In addition, many of those nations
created pacts of alliances with each other that only complicated the fighting. One
of the nations that was involved was the country of Trinidad and Tobago, as a key
collaborator with Allies against the Axis of Powers, it provided the area for two
US bases (The Roaring Lion). Furthermore, it provided support during the conflict
of the Atlantic. During this time the Trinidad and Tobago culture became a
receiver of many different inputs, in the matters of all aspects. These new inputs
of influences forged the music culture of calypso, the voice of the people in the
form of song. Through calypso melodies, the people of Trinidad and Tobago started
to tell their views of the world events, and during this time the major event was
WWII. By analyzing the lyrics of the Trinidad song that was made in 1943, it can be
determined what the current events were at the time and the political opinions of the
native people, which was the changing view on the soviet forces of in the war.
The lyrics of this calypso song talk about the successful war campaigning of Russia,
and as the result of its movement how the view on the country has changed. These
lyrics can be translated as the historical point in the war, as the in the year 1943 the

Literary Devices In Neglect By R. T. Smith
Neglect: to fail to care for properly. This one word can give one feelings of despair,
wretchedness, desolation, and even more. What a perfect word to describe the
destruction of something loved most dearly. R.T. Smith is an award winning poet,
author, and editor. In Smith s Neglect , a man is sharing his sorrows with the
reader because of the death of his beloved Red Delicious apple tree. Throughout
this poem, the author is attempting to explain his emotions of regret and sorrow by
using different literary devices such as imagery and metaphors to compare the death
of his apple tree to the death of a family member or close friend. Towards the
beginning of the poem, the speaker uses imagery when he says, Is the scent of apple
boughs smoking in the woodstove... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The speaker knows that the smoke from the burning applewood and the red apples
from the tree are all he has left to remember of it. In the sentence ...and Red
Delicious apples redder/ than a passing cardinal s crest or cinders. (lines 23 24), the
protagonist is comparing the apples to a cardinal s crest and cinders from the
woodstove, therefore using a metaphor to describe his feeling of loss. He won t
ever get to see the bring red apples from his own apple tree, so he s lamenting the
fact that the last few are all that he has left. Overall, this poem could have several
different meanings. However, the speaker seems to be despairing over the loss of
his red apple tree, and because of the little metaphors placed carefully throughout the
poem, I feel that he is comparing the emotions of a human death to this death. This
poem just goes to prove that very different circumstances can lead to the same types
of emotions. In a poem like this, where we know nothing but the event that took
place, it allows us to interpret the words in our own ways, allowing room for
anything to happen. Such as the terrible death of a man s red apple
Weightlifting, a Benefactor of Life
One sport that I did not even view as a sport before is weightlifting. What is
weightlifting? It is the sport or activity of lifting barbells or other heavy weights.
However, it is more than just that. Like many sportive activities, they all benefit the
ones who are active and committed. Nevertheless, weightliftingis a good benefactor
on the muscles, bones, joints, and the common risks of the human body. Weightlifting
strengthens your bones and can help you stay active and healthy as you age is a
factual quote from the article Why Is Lifting Weights Good for You? The
encouragement of knowing that weightlifting is healthy will be supported with the
analysis of the article, my opinion of the matter, and how it affects students lives
today. Why Is Lifting Weights Good for You? includes the prosperities of treating
muscle, bones, joints and other somatic obstacles. First, weightlifting can increase
the size, strength and power of one s muscles. After obtaining sparse body mass,
the body will burn more calories even when one is not currently exercising.
Preserving muscle mass is crucial when one is elderly. This is especially important
for elders because they tend to lose vitality and body mass. Lifting weights helps
one to keep track of their muscle mass and staying active while aging. Next are the
benefits for the bones and joints. Lifting weights can help bones develop thicker and
more solid by applying stress on them. The healthy bones will aid the joints as well.
Theatrical Makeup And Artistic Makeup
Theatrical makeup refers to makeup that is used to assist in creating the appearance
of the characters that actors portray during a theater production. Theatrical makeup
artists apply makeup to performers to reflect the period, setting, and situation of the
role ( Makeup Artists, Theatrical and Performance ). These artists have the skills to
transform people into a desired character using makeup, wigs, and other items. Many
in the profession work in theater and different types of performances, movies, and
television ( Theatrical Makeup Artists: Schools and Careers ). Artists should have
experience in cosmetology, theater, and skin care. Becoming a theatrical makeup
artist requires mastering many tasks and responsibilities, as well as... Show more

Although the theatrical makeup field does not have standard verification, a high
school diploma and cosmetology degree is recommended. Volunteering, or
receiving an internship at small organizations is highly beneficial for an artist, and
gives the opportunity to gain experience to build up their portfolio. Specific job
tasks are given to makeup artists. Some of these tasks are: establish budgets,
confer with stage directors and performers in order to get a desired look, apply
makeup to enhance, and/or alter the appearance of people, analyze a script, evaluate
environmental characteristics such as lighting plans and venue sizes, design rubber
or plastic prostheses, and much more. These tasks are essential for a theatrical
makeup artist to succeed and complete achievements in their job. Mastering the
level of perfection is necessary for a sublime artist. There are numerous companies
in which theatrical makeup is the main premise. For example, kategriffiths is a
company where they offer experienced professional makeup artists, workshops, and
schools. The founder, Kate Griffith studied for an International Diploma in
Theatrical and Media Makeup qualifying in 1998. In 2004 she had built up a large
school client base and became a full time freelancer, starting her business which has
developed in to what it is today. After just working with schools and colleges, Kate
started to travel further astray, delivering workshops across Southeast England,
London, and

Milton Glaser, born in 1929 is one of the most honorable and well respected

Why Is The Summer Of The Beautiful White Horse Crazy

Do you think Mourad is crazy, I feel there is evidence to prove that he is but ways I

think that you should just be quiet about your problems and let them go? Again with
Mourad there are many good reasons that you should, but some situations it s not a
very logical decision, and I will be explaining why in this essay.
In a way I feel Mourad is crazy, mostly because of how he answers questions and the
ways he thinks. He thought that he did not steal the horse but simply borrowed it
without permission for a long period of time. He also thought that it was okay to lie

A Worldview is formed depending on a variety of things. It refers to how one
approaches life issues from a basis formed by religion, beliefs or culture. Culture
forms the first foundation in the formation of a worldview. It exists in the pride of
being a society, where it defines the requirements for one to fit in. Deviation from a
cultural ground leads to separation from those who practice it. Religionalso plays a
vital role in the acquisition of a worldview. Given that each unique religion has its
moral direction and selected ethical choices based on the existence of a superior
deity or the lack of it thereof. Just like culture, religions demand compliance with the
rules they set down regarding different life situations (van der Walt, 2001).
Bhagavad Gita Vs Gilgamesh Essay
In both Gilgamesh and the Bhagavad Gita, we are whisked away into two
different stories with many similar aspects. One is an epic of a half man and half
god who is the king of Uruk, while the other is about a disciple about to go into
battle. In both, they depict of these gods with great influence and power over the
people and the main characters depicted in their tales. Although they have similar
qualities, one key difference between the two stories is how they depict gods and
their personalities in their stories. Specifically, gods in Gilgamesh are flawed but
have the outright concern of the conservation of humanity. While the gods in the
Bhagavad Gita are seen as flawless deities who are almighty but have
anthropomorphic characteristics and are dissonant in the decisions they make. The
Epic of Gilgameshis set in ancient Mesopotamia during which, was a time when
gods had power over everyone and could do as they pleased. However, after finishing
the text, we see how these gods are no more sensible... Show more content on

In the begging of the text, we re thrown straight unto the battlefield where Arjuna
speaks to Krishna, an immortal being, about what he should do. Arjuna does not
want to shed the blood of his kin and has no need for a kingdom if it means killing
them. However Krishna exclaims to go right ahead and do so. Let go of this lowly
weakness of the heart and stand up, Scorcher of the Enemy! (3) He exclaims how
they will be reborn again and if it means to kill those of your family to restore
peace then so be it. Other gods are described to be just as harsh and easily subjugated
to normal human vices. Whether it be anger or lust, the gods depicted in The
Bhagavad Gita are show to act even more abrupt than a normal mortal would. Their
emotions dictate their actions no matter the ramifications they may have or how
unsound they may

  • 2. The Pros And Cons Of Standards Based Grading Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently, Henry Ford stated. Students need to learn to fail in life to eventually succeed. Standards Based Grading (SBG) was created by Thomas R. Guskey. The point of SBG is to focus on the most recent work the student displayed. Frankly, that concept is unrealistic. The reality is traditional grading provides a more effective means of showing student progress and engagement. Not only is traditional grading understood universally, but the system motivates students to try their best on every assignment. Standards Based Grading may make the learning environment more relaxed for students, but is that always positive? To put it differently, civilians who have the perception that SBG is better are not understanding the reality that traditional grading is a more superior method. First and foremost, letter grades have been used since the 19th century without any complications. The traditional grading scale is universally recognized. Virtually everyone knows that earning an A is good while earning an F is associated with failure. The traditional grading scale is easy to interpret and understand. The simplistic nature of the system makes it user friendly for teachers, students, and parents. It also allows for a direct comparison from one student to another within a specific class (Meador). Ultimately, parents remember and understand the letter grading system. It s easy to be happy that their child earned an

  • 4. Sir Thomas Malory s Excalibur When you think of the name Sir Thomas Malory you might think of a brave knight who fights in the great battles. Believe it or not but this guy spent most of his life in jail. Historians claimed that this guy committed crimes like stealing cattle and other things. Malory loved to hunt and compete. There was a very good chance that he wrote a collection of books while he was in jail because he was knight and probably let him have access to books. In the collections of books that he wrote there was one called From Morte D Arthur and in this story and a movie called Excaliburthere are 3 messages of chivalry. First of I will tell you what chivalry is. Chivalry is seen today but started out back in king Arthur s day. It is the code of the knights. Things like being loyal, honest, and courage. For example when a lady walks in you stand up and if there is no seat then you give up your own seat for the lady. Also you always respect your elders so if there is no seat available then like a lady, you would give up your seat. In King Arthur s time if you were a knight you had to obey they code of the knight which was the code of chivalry. The code made it so if you were a knight then you were not able to have a wife but you were able to have a girl to fight for. It was a life time deal with the king to keep your code of chivalry and devote your life to the good cause of the king and the Kingdome. In the movie Excalibur one knight showed his loyalty to his king Arthur by doing
  • 5. Thief Of Always Character Analysis Clive Barker s The Thief of Always truly develops the story through Harvey and Wendell s friendship. Harvey is a brave kind friend to Wendell who on the other hand, is a scaredy cat, and doesn t always appreciate what Harvey does for him. The two friends work together and are on a quest to go home but when a stranger walks up onto Harvey s front porch he is forced to turn back and defeat Mr. Hood. Harvey unlike Wendell hasn t been at the Holiday House for very long. Wendell knows the in s and out s of the house, while Harvey and Wendell work together to defeat Mr. Hood. Wendell shows Harvey what he knows about the house and together, take back what Hood stole. Clive Barker truly shows the significance of the similarities, differences, and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Harvey is easily the bravest person in the holiday house. The first place that Harvey shows his bravery is when he is transmutes into a vampire. The narrator of the story admits that Harvey is brave enough to do this prank to Wendell. His cry became a whoop;his terror to joy (46). This quote explains how Harvey cares about Wendell and didn t want to harm him at first but when Jive pushed off the roof and into the night sky he was brave. He also has a mischievous side underneath all the sweet, caring Harvey. Harvey s joy got the best of him and turned into bravery. Wendell is a coward compared to his best friend Harvey. Wendell truly shows his cowardness when Harvey transforms himself into a vampire. Wendell cries for mercy and eventually gets his way. Don t kill me! Please, please, I beg you don t kill me (46)! This quote truly proves that Wendell is a coward. It also proves he doesn t have the investigation side to this scene. Harvey knows when something is wrong or something isn t right. And this shows that Wendell does not have what it takes to be as brave as Harvey. This exemplifies that Wendell is not the hero but the hero s sidekick who later on, helps Harvey a lot. This is the most important part of Harvey and Wendell s friendship. They care about each other. Harvey is kind about Wendell s weaknesses.

How the MacGyver works to solve serious problem with everyday items was very much intriguing to me. Since then I have been always trying to solve things, no matter it is beyond me or not. My father told me that learn mathematics properly if you want to be like MacGyver. I guess that was the unintentionally foundation for me to be an engineer. The most amazing fact about graphene is it may be a metal or a semiconductor or a semi metal depending its indexes. Carbon nanotube is actually cylindrical form of graphene sheet. By using tight binding model(TB), I got electronic band structure of graphene which was the basis for the Monte Carlo Simulation as it is superior then Boltzmann transport equation(BTE) for analyzing band structure. • 7. Theme Of Gender In The Victorian Age The issue of gender has long been a point of discussion in literature. From the medieval period to the renaissance to the modern age, issues of the status of men and women in society has always served as a way of opening further thought and dialog for social progression. Perhaps one of the most significant period in literature for the theme of gender is the Victorian Age; as industrialization, socialism, women s suffrage and the expansion of the rights of children take root and blossom in the mid to late 19th century, so too do the ideas of the equality of men and women as capable human beings. Though controversial at the time, the works that stemmed from this period played a significant role in addressing the idiosyncrasies and problems of gender in the Victorian Era. Christina Rossetti s poems Goblin Market and No, Thank You, John , as well as Annie Besant s The White Slavery of London Match Workers , address how little sovereignty women have over their own affairs; in fact, it is quite often that women risk much in order to attain the justice and equity that they deem is owed to them. The lack of gender parity in Victorian society results in a need for women to toe the line of tradition and social expectation or risk social exile, their livelihood and even their own lives. It is this strength of character and willingness to sacrifice oneself in the pursuit of improved and equal rights for women that led to much of the social change that transpired in and around
  • 8. Uncle Tom s Cabin Religion In the novel, Uncle Tom s Cabin, the author, Harriet Beecher Stowe, proposes that the Bible was utilized to justify the system of slavery. Stowe proposes in her novel that in the 1800 s, slave owners believed bible verses excused brutal slavery. Stowe also made the audience realize this with the characters she used in Uncle Tom s Cabin. Stowe allowed her readers to view how slavery and religion shaped the society of the 1800 s. Throughout Uncle Tom s Cabin, Augustine St. Clare implied that slave owners used religion in their own way to excuse their behavior towards slaves. Stowe s character named Augustine St. Clare, lacked Christian faith. St. Clare believed slave owners altered the meaning of bible verses to support their views of society. As St. Clare says, Religion! Is what you hear at church, religion? Is that which can bend and turn, and descend and ascend, to fit every crooked phase of selfish, worldly society, religion? (Stowe 262). The quote proves St. Clare realized the evil ways slave owners used to think. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the 1800 s, Preachers deceived the society by influencing the brutality of slavery, saying it was made permissible by the Bible. This was specifically outlined in the novel when Marie St. Clare spoke about her experience at church. Marie believed it was a good thing to have slaves because the church endorsed. As Marie quotes, ...beautiful, that some should be high and some low, and that some were born to rule and some to serve, and all that, you know; and he applied it so well to all this ridiculous fuss that is made about slavery, and he proved distinctly that the Bible was on our side... The suns diameter is 109 times earth and it is has a mass 330,000. 3 quarters of the suns mass is hydrogen, the rest is mostly made up of helium, with much smaller quantities of heavier elements, including oxygen, carbon, neon and iron. The sun is a G type main sequence star and it is referred to as a yellow dwarf. It formed approximately 4.567 billion years ago from the gravitational collapse of matter within a region of a large molecular cloud. The Sun has a very strong magnetic field: Solar flares occur when magnetic force is released by the Sun during magnetic storms. We see magnetic storms as sunspots. In these sunspots, the magnetic lines are twisted and they spin. The temperature inside of the Sun can reach up to 15 million degrees Celsius: In the Suns core, energy is made by the suns nuclear fusion, as the Hydrogen converts to Helium. Because hot objects usually expand, the Sun would explode like a massive bomb if it weren t for its huge gravitational force! The Sun creates solar wind: Solar wind is a stream of charged particles, which travels through the Solar System at nearly 450 kilometres per second. Solar wind can occur where the magnetic field of the Sun goes into space instead of following its original surface. Discussion: The Sun is the star at the centre of the Solar System and is by far the most important source of energy for life on Earth. The sun is in the dead centre of the solar system. The suns changes distance from the earth varying from 147 to 152 million kilometres.

These fins steer and stabilize the squids when moving slowly, and wrap around the body when they move quickly, by way of jet propulsion. Most octopuses do not have fins as adults. Some deep water octopuses are exceptions. (Octopuses Squids,n.d) How do octopuses and squids reproduce? The male octopus uses a specialized arm called a hectocotylus to transfer sperm to the mantle cavity of a receptive female. The female lays strings of fertilized eggs on the roof of her den. She guards, cleans and aerates the eggs with water expelled from her siphon until hatching. This can be anywhere from 30 days to a year, depending on the species. The female may build a wall of rocks to seal off the den and will remain in the den until just before she dies, after the eggs have hatched. Squids often mate in large groups, and attach their egg capsules to the ocean floor or to seaweed. Most adult octopuses and squid die after reproducing. Their bodies are recycled in the food web, nourishing other animals, and ultimately providing food for their young when they hatch. (Octopuses

It is constantly evolving, which is why it is important to be mindful of what is said anywhere one may be. Words that may not typically offend one person may be hurtful to someone else. Many of the people that are most forgotten about are those with disabilities, minor or severe. Since person first language has been defined, it has given a voice and boosted the self esteem to many of those that society often forgets. Through time we have come to understand that Person First Language is important for the equality and acceptance of people with disabilities. Throughout history, people with disabilities have always been victimized. The bible tells many tales of people who were disabled. In these stories, they were referred to as crippled (Charles 31). The stereotype of disability has evolved from people being referred to as crippled to Disreputables , which were people used as entertainment in the middle ages (Charles 34), then to Waste Humanity , which were people that were sterilized and killed because they were deemed unfit to live in the mid 1900s (Charles 38 39). This gives insight to the evolution of a problem that is just recently being addressed. Today, calling people crippled, disreputables, and waste humanity is considered dehumanizing. People in communities were not properly educated or prepared to deal with people who were mentally or physically different. Awareness was brought
  • 22. Historical And Medical Background Of Agnosia Historical and Medical Background of Agnosia Agnosia is a rare neurological disorder that affects one s capability to recognize people or objects based on the affected sense (Coslett, 2007; National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, 2014). There are three observed types of agnosia: Visual, Auditory, and Tactile (Coslett, 2007; Marotta Behrmann 2002). Visual agnosia is the most common type because the brain devotes the most energy and resources to visual processing than processing of any of the other senses (Coslett, 2007). Since it is the most common, and therefore has the most research available, visual agnosia will be the primary focus of this paper. Sigmund Freud coined the term agnosia which means without knowledge and although the term stands today, it is now known that those with agnosia actually have knowledge of what they are seeing but do not have the ability to connect perception to knowledge. As Marotta and Behrmann observed in two case studies, those with visual agnosia are able to identify and recognize object through sound, touch or a description of function or appearance (Marotta Behrmann, 2002; Coslett, 2007), proving that knowledge of the object is present. Heinrich Lissauer, a German neurologist, divided visual agnosia into two subcategories: apperceptive and associative agnosia. Apperceptive agnosia is when a perceptual representation cannot even be derived from vision, meaning everything can be seen, the visual acuity and physical

  • 31. Robin Thicke s Song Blurred Lines Goats, half naked ladies, and hashtags; yet the most memorable thing about Robin Thicke s song, Blurred Lines , is the lawsuit that surrounds it. Most fans of Marvin Gaye will be able to recognize his song Got to give it up and the way it was ripped off by Robin Thicke. But the issue goes deeper than just plagiarism; there is also the issue of cultural appropriation. A songoriginally done by a Black man was stolen, had the lyrics changed, and put back out with someone else claiming credit for the work. This is not new for Black artists. The genre of rock came from Rhythm and Blues, or R B, which came from jazz, and so on through Black tradition. Yet as time has shown, there has always been a dominant White force that comes in and adopts,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On a larger scale, musical appropriation fits neatly in with cultural appropriation, because music is so ingrained in culture. According to Toni Lester, a music and law scholar, in an article for Hastings Communications and Entertainment Law Journal, cites a music critic as saying, [T]he difference is that Thicke [...] is getting the kind of exposure that other black R B artists aren t, an attention magnified by the color of Thicke s skin (Lester, 2014). The real issue behind appropriation is the lack of recognition for the original song, or artists, or racial group whose ideas and culture created that music. Lester differentiates two views on appropriation, the view that adoption of culture of the minority of the majority is problematic, and the view that the melting pot of ideas in America works to create better art (Lester, 2014). These two ideas give very different meanings to appropriation and how we can view it in regards to today s society. In a podcast for NPR, co host Justin Charity talked about what makes something appropriation, saying about pop stars trying to expand across cultures, How do I engage with another culture that my brand is pretty removed from? And they almost always botch it (NPR, 2016). He is explaining that it is possible to cross pollinate culture, however most of the time when it is done;

  • 33. the Impact of a Tropical Storm Depends on Location How... The Impact of a Tropical Storm depends on location How far do you agree? Tropical storms formed 5 30 degrees north of the equator, so if there is a largely populated area or economic centre around this latitude, in an area vulnerable to hurricanes, the impact will be increased in comparison to the tropical storm running its course over unpopulated islands or the ocean. This can be seen when looking at Hurricane Sandy, a tropical storm of 2012 and its impact on Cuba. Cuba was located in the Hurricane s path and so obviously the Hurricane caused damage. However, because an area of considerable economic value to the country, Cuba s Santiago de Cuba, was in located in the aforementioned storm path and damaged significantly, for example ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore because of this storm surge, the stock exchange was closed for two days and this resulted in mass losses economically. This is a good example of how the title is correct in what it is saying storm surges being less of a threat to built up areas on higher ground or ground further inland. Sandy cost New York $42 billion. However storm surges also impact those further inland as well, and this is can be seen through the secondary impacts of Hurricane Sandy. Severe flooding along the coast dumped about eleven billion gallons of raw and untreated sewage in the waterways from Washington DC to Connecticut this resulting in more damage than flooding alone. This starts to convey weaknesses in the essay title, that perhaps it is too simplistic in its assertion. Moreover, when looking at the impact of a tropical storm we see that it isn t just the location that affects the extent of said impact. What is arguably more influential on the impact of tropical storm is the level of wealth possessed by the country hit. This again is illustrated by Hurricane Sandy. Hurricane Sandy hit both Cuba and the USA, one an LEDC the other the wealthiest country in the world. In the USA, money was raised by the people of the country through television companies such as Disney ABC, NBC, and News Corporation raising a total of $41 billion dollars to help the area hit

What a perfect word to describe the destruction of something loved most dearly. R.T. Smith is an award winning poet, author, and editor. In Smith s Neglect , a man is sharing his sorrows with the reader because of the death of his beloved Red Delicious apple tree. Throughout this poem, the author is attempting to explain his emotions of regret and sorrow by using different literary devices such as imagery and metaphors to compare the death of his apple tree to the death of a family member or close friend. Towards the beginning of the poem, the speaker uses imagery when he says, Is the scent of apple boughs smoking in the woodstove... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The speaker knows that the smoke from the burning applewood and the red apples from the tree are all he has left to remember of it. In the sentence ...and Red Delicious apples redder/ than a passing cardinal s crest or cinders. He won t ever get to see the bring red apples from his own apple tree, so he s lamenting the fact that the last few are all that he has left. Overall, this poem could have several different meanings. However, the speaker seems to be despairing over the loss of his red apple tree, and because of the little metaphors placed carefully throughout the poem, I feel that he is comparing the emotions of a human death to this death. This poem just goes to prove that very different circumstances can lead to the same types of emotions. In a poem like this, where we know nothing but the event that took place, it allows us to interpret the words in our own ways, allowing room for anything to happen. Such as the terrible death of a man s red apple
