I Was Arrested For 11th Degree Criminal Trespassing
On December , I was arrested for 3rd degree criminal trespassing. That day I was heading to go see
my dad at the hospital. He had suffered his second stroke and doctors wanted to talk about what
is possible for him since he was hooked on machines and unable to move or communicate in
anyway for himself, i was also his power of attorney so i would speak for him. I was focused on
nothing more than seeing my dad, but first i had to drop off my friend s shoes she had let me
borrow. Along the way i saw a walmart and i had not eaten all day and thoughti could go in to get
some snacks and a smoothie for my dad. I called my friend to come pick me up at the walmart
instead and drive me to the hospital. She didn t live far so i thought by the time i came out the
store she would have already been outside waiting for me, but that wasn t the case. My phone
had died at that point so i had no way of calling her to let her know where i would be, so i decided
to sit in front of the store where she could see me since the bench inside was taken by a woman
and her kids. 5 minutes later an officer came asking me what i was doing there. I explained to
him that i was waiting for a friend to come pick me up and that she ll be here soon. He said okay
but then proceeded to ask me questions like how many times have I been arrested or how long i
have been away from home or rather or not i bought the items in my bag. I didn t understand why
he was asking me all of those questions and began to feel

Anterograde Amnesia In The Movie 50 First Dates
Anterograde amnesia refers to a memory deficit from brain injury that prevents patients to store
new informations in their short term memories. The patients show normal memories for events that
occurred before the injury but has severely impaired ability to recall information about events that
occurred after the incident. Anterograde amnesiais reflected in the movie 50 first dates through the
main character, Lucy Whitmore, whose memory lasts only a day because her memory stopped on
the day of car accident. (additional description) The movie, 50 first dates, contains valid depiction
of anterograde amnesiayet it also contains some dramatic points that is far from reality. Although
the movie, 50 first dates, was fairly dramatic, it accurately portrays the possible struggles that
patients may experience from anterograde amnesia. The main idea of the movie is that the main
character Lucy gets into a car accident on the day of her father s birthday. The accident causes a
severe brain injury to her temporal lobe and it leads her to suffer from anterograde amnesia.
Because memories of any events occurred after the accident fades away, Lucy wakes up every
morning thinking that it is October 13th, the day of a car accident. Lucy s family helps Lucy to
constantly relive the day before her accident to avoid a pain that Lucy may have as she discovers
her condition. On the other hand, Henry comes into her life thinking that it is better to update her
with important events through

Spanish Exploration
Spanish and English Exploration From 1492 1648
Many explorers of the time had dreams of finding new and better routes to other lands and with the
help and finances of their home or neighboring countries they were able to find these routes and
convert to Christianity those they came in contact with. Spain and England of the fifteenth to
seventeenth centuries were two such countries who wanted to convert the world to Christianity as
well as find new resources or new routes to existing resources while also converting the natives of
the land to their religion.
The fifteenth century was challenging for the country of Spain. For example, towards the end of
the century, Spain was embroiled in a sustained battle with the last group of Muslims to ... Show

For many years, ships that were used to navigate the Mediterranean were powered by men who
would row and be equipped with small sails in the shape of a triangle. Over the years Portugal
realized that, while these ships were good for small voyages, they would not be practical for an
Atlantic crossing. They soon designed a ship with bigger, stronger, and square sails capable of
harnessing the wind and carrying explorers longer distances. Columbus on his voyage saw the
advantage of these sails and used them on his own ships that carried him across the Atlantic.
English ships were very much like those of the Spaniards with square masts. However, English
ships were also equipped with lateen sails along with their square masts that were used through out
the sixteenth century, which helped it cut through the waters of the Atlantic. While obtaining a ship
to cross the Atlantic was important, the explorers also needed the backing of the wealthy to
finance their trips. These wealthy individuals were also venture capitalists that wanted a part of
what they believed would be found whether this was gold, silver or

How Did John Adams And John Quincy Adams Impact The...
Many say Like father like son which would ring true to John Adams and John Quincy Adams.
These two men were influential people in each of their own generations. Being President was
something that they both got to experience during their lifetime. Implicating policies and
supervising foreign and domestic affairs, both John Adamsand John Quincy Adams impacted the
history of America while being the 2nd and 6th president of our great nation.
John Adams and John Quincy Adams were both born in Braintree, Massachusetts 32 years apart.
John Adams was married to Abigail Adams, who was actually his third cousin, and on July 11,
1767 Abigail gave birth to John Quincy Adams. John and Abigail also had five other children. John

The French were upset because the United States claimed neutrality but favored Great Britain in
the Jay treaty of 1796. The French retaliated by taking over United States Merchant ships. All
relations with France were terminated. An unofficial war was in the mist which is now referred
to as the Quasi War. John Adams attempt at solving this problem was the XYZ Affair. The
United States had to pay a very large bribe for the representatives sent to even begin to speak
about negotiations with the French. When the United States Navy got involved in defending
the nation the Treaty of Mortefontaine was created in 1800 to prevent an actual war. In order to
further protect the nation from foreign threat Adams passed the Alien and Sedition Acts of
1798. These laws were very questionable and did not last long. They allowed the president to
deport anyone he saw who posed a threat to the nation, made it harder to become a citizen, and
put limits on new voters. John Quincy Adams was more or less successful domestically. While in
office John Quincy Adams promoted the building of roads and canals, banks, and universities.
The Erie Canal was completed on October, 26, 1825. Adams had many critics when he passed a
tariff bill that raised prices on a lot of goods. Some people even referred to it as the Tariff of
Abominations . Adams accomplished much more thorough foreign policy while under James
Monroe than in

A Social Worker Essay
For decades, British governments pledged to combat and reduce the alleged cost of addressing the
associated harms of substance misuse. Critics argue ploughing money into substance misuse diverts
billions of pounds from more productive expenditure (Fordham et al, 2007). Yet investment in this
area is essential for improving the prospects of future generations, especially as unknown numbers
of children are subjected to hidden harm amid their home environment (ACMD, 2003). Having
unsuccessfully trialled different initiatives, the latest drug policy resorted to recovery . This
approach tackles addictionby addressing wider contributory issues to encourage respectful and
socially accepted behaviour, and individuals to eventually contribute as fully fledged members of
the community (HM Gov, 2010).
Despite the benefits, many are reluctant to participate within the recovery programme. Hesitancy
primarily originates from the prejudicial attitude of structural forces, like government and the
media, which caused substance misuse to become one of the most stigmatised conditions
(Livingston et al, 2012). The role of a social worker is to minimise the impact of stigma by
demonstrating that service users are accepted and worthy of assistance, boosting their morale and
self esteem, and working alongside them to show that recovery is really possible. This essay
analyses the main drivers making substance misusers resistant to changing their behaviour, as well
as discusses the

Northern Economy Vs. Southern Economy
In the beginning of the 1800s, it was kind of easy to tell that the North and the South were not alike
since, in the North, slavery was forbidden, while in the South, it was the most important part of the
community. As years passed by, differences became more evolved, especially when the North
became more industrial, and its economy became a market economy. Though the North and South
both have different economies, and different daily lives, they both have similarities. In the North,
though there were still a few small subsistence farms, industrially mass produced products were the
base of the Northern economy. Money was made in this market economy by selling tons of items
such as, ... cheap cloth...cheap clothing... shoes, furniture, soap, and... Show more content on

In the North, people determined how long they worked by a clock. Also, when they worked, they
were paid in wages. So pretty much, payment was determined by the hour. In the South it was
different. In the South, payments were determined by how hard a person worked from sunrise to
sunset. If a Southerner worked hard in his job, they had a higher chance of getting more money
than a person who slacks. For the North, living situations, and the environment isn t the best, when
it comes to the Northern cities. In the cities, safety was really bad because the, ...cities expanded
so quickly that municipal services police departments, fire stations, and sanitation works struggled
to keep up. Fire was an ever present danger in the nation s urban areas. ... Mobs and gangs
gathered at local taverns, where young men sometimes attacked each other or turned their violence
against immigrants or nonwhite people. (City danger) Not only are fires and mobs taking over the
city, but disease is too. With the water pollution from feces and more components of an unclean,
over populated environment, sicknesses came frequently and caused a lot of deaths among the
people of the north (Paraphrased Problems). In the south, the general people s environment was far
from city like. Most of the land, due to the fact that the South was mostly agrarian, was full of
continuous farm land. This makes it seem like the air in the South is much cleaner than the air in
the North. Both the north and the south rely on cotton in their daily lives though, the South relies
on cotton as a crop, while the North relies on the cotton for

The Four Layers Of The Respiratory System
The respiratory system is made up of two different parts, the upper respiratory tract which includes
the nose, mouth and the beginning on the trachea. This is the part that is in charge of taking in the
air and letting it back out again, and then the lower respiratory tract which is made up of the trachea
and the lungs.
There are four different layers that make up the trachea, these include the mucosa which is the in
most layer. This consists of ciliated pseudostratified columnar epithelium tissue which contains
goblet cells that secrete a tacky mucus that lines the walls of the inner trachea so that it catches any
debris breathed in via the air before it hits the lungs.
Ciliated pseudostratified columnar epithelial cells are a rectangular

The story explains how he had severe mental and physical abuse and how they treated him like
an animal while serving his sentence. The only way he was able to hold himself was through
reading and writing poetry, stories, and art. What made his story so special is that he is able to
not only overcome so many obstacles, but he also is able to better himself and get educated. He
shows us readers how even if you re in a bad situation like his, nothing could stop you from
accomplishing your dream and educating yourself to become a better version of yourself.
Throughout his life Jimmy found passion for poetry. Poetry became a big part of his life, he
found out that it helped him escape his harsh reality of being in prison. Poetry became something
to aspire to live up. It informed how I saw the world and purpose to it. pg (5)
He found poetry as a tool to help him escape from everything he had been through in his life. Which
made him more knowledgeable about life and the reasoning behind everything.
Jimmy went through a lot of pain his experience would soon be the cause of a life filled with trust
issues. I felt lost and confused around grown ups. They never told the truth. They were always
hiding something that would eventually hurt me. pg (19). This shows how people are not satisfied

The Literary Analysis Of The Herodotus Of Halicarnassus
Little is known of the life of Herodotus of Halicarnassus who was born in a part of the Greek
empire in what is present day Turkey, and lived between ca. 484 and 420 BC, other than that he
was the author of the Histories. It was the first history to break with the Homeric way of relating
history by interweaving it with myth and delivering it in the style of poetry. Instead, Herodotus
produced systematic accounts of historyfollowing a chronological order, assembled as many facts
and forms of evidence as possible, and used them with a critical spirit of analysis. These documents
describe the history of the Persian wars from the fall of the Lydian kingdom in western Anatolia to
the beginning of the Archidamian War. At its heart is the

Herodotus then zooms in and pictures the conflict taking place hand to hand within a temple to
Demeter, again underscoring the intimate relationship between military violence and religious
veneration. The ferocity of war and combat is heightened here, as elsewhere, in descriptive
additions and language flavored with adjectives. Herodotus displays a detailed concern with the
accessories of combat and pays particular attention to the fact that the Persians were relatively
lightly armed. Indeed, over the course of the Histories at large, armaments emerge as an important
factor in determining military victories. Here, the Persians were neither less valorous nor weaker,
but they had no amour; moreover, they were unskilled and no match for their adversaries in craft .
The picture of the Persians as valorous but unskilled, and many in number but reckless, is not
limited to this excerpt it is one of the main themes of the Histories overall. Later commentators
have picked up on Herodotus s repeated negative characterizations of the Persians as a barbaric
race as indicative of his general way of formulating an undesirable picture of the Other. Hartog, in
particular, has spoken about Herodotus s mirror held up to the Persians, reflecting them as barbaric
and savage in comparison to the Greeks, especially in terms of their fighting methods.

A Tale of Two Cities
Charles Dickens characterizes the settings in his novel, A Tale of Two Cities, through indirect
comparison and contrast between Paris and London during the French Revolution, a political
and social upheaval from 1789 1799; There was a king with a large jaw and a queen with a plain
face on the throne of England; there was a king with a large jaw and a queen with a fair face on
the throne of France. In both countries it was clearer than crystal to the lords of the State
preserves of loaves and fishes, that things in general were settled for ever. (1.1.2) His distinguished
way of approaching these two cities bolsters the image of the characters he wants to convey through
his novel. When doing so, Dickens creates the environments of a... Show more content on

Fortunately, Darnay does get acquitted; however, it was not because justice was served.
Dickens s demonstration of this scene portrays that there isn t much of a difference between the
Londoners and the Parisians, which sets a frightening image for France, considering the
situation that is about to unfold. The courtroom is one of the three major settings Dickens
demonstrates for London. The second setting in London is Manette s house in Soho and the
third setting is the Tellson s Bank. On the other hand, Tellson s is the representative of a British
business and culture. Tellson s Banks seems to be living up to the stereotypical British business
corporation Dicken s identifies it to be; Tellson s Bank by Temple Bar was an old fashioned

by an express conviction that, if it were less objectionable, it would be less respectable. This was
no passive belief, but an active weapon which they flashed at more convenient places of business.

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Blood Transfusion
One of the most punctual endeavors at blood transfusion was chronicled in 1492 when Pope
Innocent VIII, while in an insensible state was mixed with blood from three young men. The blood
from the young men was implanted into the Pope through the mouth and it was noticed that the
destiny of the Pope and that of the young men was dreary. As per the annals, there were no
survivors from this first endeavor at transfusing bloodfrom one individual (or for this situation,
people) to another.
Thank heavens, current medication has advanced more distant than in the times of 1492. It was in
the early piece of the nineteenth century that advance in blood donation and transfusion truly

tremendous advantage is that with autologous blood donation there is no danger of getting a

unbendingly screened, there is a significant serenity in knowing where the blood that is given to

autologous blood donation.
How would I plan for an autologous blood donation?
You ought to plan for an autologous blood donation the same way that you would get ready for an
allogeneic blood donation. For instance, on the day you plan to make the donation, have a
generous breakfast and drink a lot of liquids. Additionally, wear a short sleeved shirt. After
donation, don t arrange for any strenuous movement, especially any hard work, for 24 hours.

Individuality In Gasoline
In a society where people of all ages are obsessing over and imitating the rich and famous, the
desire to be an individual is neglected. In Halsey s song Gasoline, she comments on the way in
which people mimic those around them and deny their uniqueness. Throughout the song, Halsey
describes society as a machine. She claims that through her own experiences, she has gained
insight into the depressing world of being in the limelight. As a celebrity, she is continually
pressured to cover up her differences, but she resists the voices that tell her to adhere to normality.

her to the uncontrollable natural disaster that is a hurricane. By embracing her identity as a

use the screen to paint their lives as perfect, but in reality, they are flawed and face struggles like
all other citizens. Halsey continues drawing on her experiences by stating, I think there s a flaw in

because her code is flawed, she is able to flourish as an individual. Her flawed code also references
her bipolar disorder, but she goes on to explain that [her] heart is golden. These descriptions of

Art Vs Algebra Class Research
Art was one of my favorite classes, but I wasn t a fan of algebra class. There are many
differences and similarities between art class and algebra class. I love taking a bit of nothing
and turning it into a work of art that I can be proud of. One of the main reasons I disliked algebra
class was how much homework we had. One of the biggest differences between these two
classes was the amount of creative freedom used in art class. Algebra class has more lectures
while art class has more hands on creative time. There is more note taking and homework
involved in algebra. In art class, you could draw but that was pretty much frowned upon during
algebra class. In art class there is more opportunity to walk around and talk to your friends. If you

The Sociology Of Health And Mental Illness

Disparate Social Object Antipsychiatry was as much a cultural phenomenon as an academic or
institutional one. Whilst the work of Laing (1960) and Szasz (1960) can be rooted in the Fruedo
Marxist methodological individualism of critical theory (Rogers Pilgrim, 2010: 14), or even a
broader constructionist critique of medical truth, it just as easily lends itself to a more limited
historicist Libertarian reading: mental illness as socio political deviance within an encroaching
state (Sumner, 1994). Within this interface must be located the panoply of iconographic
representation (Shorter, 1997: 273) within wider mass culture: Sumner cites the example of Ken
Kesey s One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest as salacious and sensational as it may be which became,
for a generation, a precipitation of populist anti sentiment towards psychiatric institutions and their
operative physicians. It is clear then that the dialectic of mind and its healer transcends theoretical
partitions, spans academic disciplines, and crosses the great divide to take up its place within the

The Truman Doctrine
At the present moment in world history nearly every nation must choose between alternative
ways of life. The choice is too often not a free one. One way of life is based upon the will of the
majority, and is distinguished by free institutions, representative government, free elections, and
guarantees of individual liberty, freedom of speech and religion, and freedom from political
oppression. The second way of life is based upon the will of a minority forcibly imposed upon
the majority. It relies upon terror and oppression, a controlled press and radio, fixed elections,
and the suppression of personal freedoms. I believe that it must be the policy of the United States
to support free peoples who are resisting attempted subjugation by armed minorities or by outside
pressures. I believe that we must assist free peoples to work out their own destinies in their own
way. I believe that our help should be primarily through economic stability and orderly political
process.
President Harry S. Truman, March 12, 1947
After this policy United States of America started to apply three main missions. These missions are;
1) Try to provide military, economic and political stabilization of Europe.

who was indulging on the commodities being produced and exported here, as the United States had

molasses, that was being consumed in the United States had been imported from Haiti. The mass
production of all the commodities did not happen by itself, but rather it happened due to the
intensive labour of the slave population. Furthermore, the population of Saint Domingue around this
time was approximately 500,000, and of that total population ninety percent of it was slaves. With

The Character of Macbeth in William Shakespeare s Play Essay
The Character of Macbeth in William Shakespeare s Play
Macbeth
Macbeth was most likely written in 1606, early in the reign of James I, who had been James VI
of Scotland before he succeeded to the English throne in 1603. James was a patron of Shakespeare
s acting company, and of all the plays Shakespeare wrote under James s reign, Macbeth most
clearly reflects the playwright s close relationship with the sovereign. In focusing on Macbeth, a
figure from Scottish history, Shakespeare paid homage to his king s Scottish lineage. Additionally,
the witches prophecy that Banquo will found a line of kings is a clear nod to James family s claim
to have descended from the historical Banquo. In a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The conventions of a play like Macbeth are very clear, as Shakespeare presents them to the
audience throughout. For example, when Macbeth is on stage on his own he has several
monologues. These can be perceived as the character talking to the audience, as this empowers the
audience, and the reader of the play. When characters are alone on stage they gain a greater
meaning of the art form, and can relate to both the character on stage, and any political or cultural
factor involved within the play. Moments like this in the play are easy for the audience to
understand, Shakespeare clearly lays out the form for the audience throughout the play and this
helps develop the meaning.
Macbeth is a famously violent play. Interestingly, most of the killings take place offstage, but
throughout the play the characters provide the audience with gory descriptions of the carnage,
from the opening scene where the captain describes Macbeth and Banquo wading in blood on
the battlefield, to the endless references to the bloodstained hands of Macbeth and his wife. The
action is bookended by a pair of bloody battles: in the first, Macbeth defeats the invaders; in the
second, he is slain and beheaded by Macduff. In between is a series of murders: Duncan, Duncan
s chamberlains, Banquo, Lady Macduff, and Macduff s son all come to bloody ends. By the end of
the action, blood seems to be everywhere.

Abstract
While community policing is being touted by some as the panacea for all problems in the criminal
justice system, others believe that it is just old wine in a new bottle. Many departments around the
country have embraced the tenets of community policing, yet few can answer the bottom line
question: Is it a better way to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The department is hoping the first year of the downtown community policing initiative will be
generally successful, it will experienced a number of difficulties. Problem While the split force
concept and the establishment of a centralized Community Policing Division had the advantage of
creating a critical mass that could quickly get the effort off the ground, it also brought with it the
traditional communications problems between Community Policing, Patrol, and Criminal
Investigations personnel Response all of the community patrol officers will have specific
geographic responsibilities the twenty five assign to patrol the downtown area as well as the
officers assign to desk duties the patrol officers on the different shifts will be assign a job within
and the surrounding downtown area forming a teams with the Community Policing Officer
responsible for the area who will coordinate the problem solving efforts between the shifts and
neighborhood residents this will also boost the moral of the officers because they will spend least
on duty.
Problem There was a perception among many officers of a lack of support for community policing
efforts from upper management within the Police Department. It appeared that some staff members

Social Meida Addiction Essay
On the night of my first Media and Society class, my instructor Ann, sternly stated (while going
over the class syllabus) that we were not to use our, smart phones, computers, etc. for personal
use only class related reasons or taking notes. No social media networks, tweeting or sending
messages. I found myself thinking this is an adult college program; why was it necessary for her
to tell us that? Is there a problem here that required such a statement? Ann then asked how many
of us use Social Media (that is what the class is about, media and its effect on society) what we
use it for, how often we use it and if we ever turned our connection off. When I heard some of the
answers I was concerned. Several students admitted that they would... Show more content on

As many as 1 in 8 Americans suffer from problematic social media usage, according to Stanford
University, not only are people obsessed and over use it, but they are actually becoming addicted.
There are several online social medias that people are becoming addicted to; the five most prevalent
are Facebook, Twitter, YouTube
, Dating sites and online gaming, in particular Warcraft. Anyone
who has access to technology, a computer, smart phone etc. and access to the internet is at stake in
this new aged addiction, regardless of age, race or gender. Social Media Addiction is now being
recognized as a psychological disorder all over the world, not just here in the U.S. In the 90 s
studies were focused on Internet Addiction (IA), but the new decade with its advances in social
media sites have now added yet another addiction to study.
Facebook seems to be the number one social web site that has the highest addiction count.
Facebook has 800 million active users, two billion posts are liked and commented on per day
and approximately 10 billion minutes (all together) are logged on the site each day. It is so
addictive for so many that is has been said to be as addictive as smoking. Studies have revealed
that people feel upset, fidgety and agitated if they are denied access to the internet and their social
media sites. Some even stating that they feel lonely, depressed and anxious if they are unable to
access their Facebook account.

I Am Applying to the Master s in Computer Science Program
Aiming to carve a niche for myself in this broad area of Computer Science I apply to the Masters
in Computer Science Program in Jacobs School of Engineering at the University of California, San
Diego. This is the Program and the University for me which matches in all aspects of what I seek.
The buzz about the enabling environment within the Computer Scienceand Engineering
Department, which requires students to push their limits and helps them do so through providing
avant garde course selection and cutting edge infrastructure is a main attraction. The work of Dr.
Pavel Pevzner and Prof Henrick Jensen on Fragment Assembly in DNA sequencing and Global
illumination using photon mapping is exactly what I would want to be part of. I understand that
admission is difficult and then performing once admitted in a group of students that are
competitive and brilliant will be even tougher, I apply because I know that I will be able to perform.
Having lost my parents by the tender age of 12, I understood the true importance of focus,
determination and effort from a very early stage in my life. Life has been what it has and I knew I
had to build my own life. There was no ready platform and thus I did just that. Eligibility for
Computer Engineering in the best engineering college in the state Nirma Institute of Technology
came backed by effort and determination to make it. Focus that I must find my place within
Computers was something that I was aware of from day one. Nevertheless

Selecting A Gynecologist
When it comes time to select a new gynecologist, due to a move or a change in insurance, a
woman needs to take time to choose one that will work well for her. There are a variety of items to
contemplate such as location, philosophical compatibility, specialties and whether he or she has any
openings for new patients. Here are the top ten tips to help choose this important medical
practitioner.
Specialties: Gynecologists often have specialties such as infertility, oncology, or obstetrics. If you
are having problems getting pregnant, you ll want a physician who has extensive knowledge in
infertility. If you or a blood relative has had uterine or gynecological cancer, it s a good idea to be
teamed up with a doctor who has expertise in oncology. If you re planning to become pregnant, you
ll want a doctor who includes obstetrics in their practice. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Insurance: You need to make sure that your insurance is accepted by a prospective medical
provider. You don t want to be surprised by a big bill for care that you thought was to be covered by
your health plan.
Philosophy: If you are interested in alternative health remedies and natural care whenever possible,
you ll want to make sure that your prospective doctor shares your philosophies. An initial
consultation would be a great time to discuss this.
Gender: Some women prefer a female doctor while others feel more comfortable with a male.
Think about your own preferences and choose a new gynecologist accordingly.
Location: Think about how far you d be willing to drive for your new physician and narrow down
possibilities with a map in

The Systems Development Life Cycle Paper
By using different type of project management tools you can determined which tools and
requirement that will be needed for the project. Project management has many tools available to
help with managing projects. The two that are talked about in the chapter are these; Program
Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT) and Gantt charts, they help managers schedule and
monitor the activities involved in large projects, such as implementation of a large scale ... Show

Rather, a Gantt chart treats each activity as if it were independent of the others, which of course is
not really the case. For this reason, Gantt charts are better suited for systems implementation
projects that are not complex and have relatively few interrelationships among implementation
activities. (p.436)
It helps to look at the software as a framework that can be modified in hundreds of different ways
to support your organization s culture. If you have a disciplined organization with projects that are
well defined and stable, you can implement many system capabilities relatively quickly to
streamline and simplify formerly manual processes. However, if your organization is new to the
field of project management, you might have to introduce system features in several phases so that
the learning curve is not too steep. Another factor, which could be considered in planning the scope
and phasing of your implementation are the history and type of project. (informit.com) There are so
many different types of project management software that runs on desktop or notebook computers
can perform these tasks easily and quickly, can enable a project leader to plan and control
implementation tasks, and can help a team install a new system on time and within budget.
Examples of project management software solutions include SAP, Agile, Microsoft Project,

Educational Implications for Heidegger s Views On Poetry...
Educational Implications for Heidegger s Views On Poetry And Thinking
ABSTRACT: I discuss some of the educational implications emerging from Heidegger s views on
poetry, thinking, and language. Specifically, Heidegger s views on the neighborhood between
poetry and thinking suggest that most accepted methods of teaching poetry are in error, because
they ignore this neighboring relation. The importance of this relation is presented and clarified. I
then discuss the implications of Heidegger s view for teaching poetry. Heidegger s series of three
lectures, later published as The Nature of Language has some very significant implications for
education. (1) In this paper I focus on the second lecture. In opening his second lecture, ... Show

Thinking about language means entering a region where method does not reign. It means following
a specific path in that region. But in thinking about the nature of language we encounter specific
problems. When we speak of the nature of language, we are already using language to discuss its
nature. Furthermore, we are already acquainted with the nature of language as people who use it,
even if we cannot clearly articulate and define this nature. In short, we are entangled in a lagging
behind the topic of our inquiry. There is a way out of our predicament. If we look around the region
of thought, without taking the entanglement lightly, we will note that what Heidegger calls the
country of thinking is open in all directions to the neighborhood of poetry. Thus, today, when
scientific method tends to suffocate thinking, we can return to thinking through reading and
listening to poetry.
To be specific, the fact that the country of thinking is open in all directions to the neighborhood of
poetry, can often help a person follow those paths of thinking that concern him or her. How? Quite
often if you read and listen to great poetry with an openness to the language and to the thoughts and
experiences expressed in the poem, and with a comportment to think about what you heard, with
care for the world, and

Mexican Food Experiment
1.) Choose a food related topic that you want to test and write a purpose statement.
Ever since I can remember being able to tell my parents what I wanted for dinner it would always
be some type of mexican food. So when choosing my topic for my experiment it was a effortless
decision. My food related topic deals with Burritos. The purpose of this experiment is to find a
way to make a fried burrito with it falling apart.
2.) Write a justification for the testing you wish to do. Explain briefly why someone should be
willing to pay for your study.
I ve seen and tasted a lot of different kinds of fried desserts and other cooked good such as green
beans, spinach balls, and claims. There s a lot more chain mexican restaurants then there were
when I was growing up meaning that the consumers in america enjoy eating different culture foods.
I believe that somemone would be willing to pay for my study because of the fact that it s
something new and different in the since that I would be changing a common food recipe into a

Essay on Understanding the Underground Dancer
Understanding the Underground Dancer
If you have seen him in clubs, in parties, and even in the street you will surely remember him. The
Underground Dancer is a figure of the modern world that cannot be dismissed. Anthropologists
explain dance as the expression of sexual desires, but the Underground Dancer is different, and
therefore, often misunderstood. It is hard to pinpoint what he is, and what he looks like, all I can
provide is shots in the dark, a desperate attempt to shed light to this misunderstood personae. The
underground dancer is a spiritual beggar, a metaphorical call for freedom, a revelrying Dionysus,
an artist and a work of art he matters not merely because he is different, but because he gives us

It is his favorite song and all the dreams are flushed away, his spiteful stare returning to this oh,

tired of routine, of the day in day out, of the same ol , same ol , of everyday existence. Like an ill
man he may swear inside him, and like Dostoevsky s Underground Man he will let out a high
pitched cry that speaks: Enough! This world is not enough! He is still motionless for although
he wants to dance, his mind is not at ease what is the use of dancing anyway, when all the
troubles of the world burden his shoulders (Kaufmann 71, 72)? He remains inert, perhaps slightly
trembling, a tingling anticipation of an unknown surge tickling his soul. His inaction drives him
insane because if he refuses to dance without a reason, he will remain inert but if, on the other
hand, dances without a reason, his lack of determination will manifest itself as self
consciousness and fall pray to the eyes of his audience. But who ever heard of rationality as
prerequisite for action? The whole of History is littered with examples of irrational choices, where
man acts without consideration for reason or advantage. The Underground Dancer realizes this,
and does not wish for himself a good, virtuous or advantageous choice but simply to satisfy his
own caprice, in a sense, feed his own desire for the single most advantageous advantage :
independent choice (72). He must dance,

through each and every day. One contribution to the Western civilization from the Ancient Greeks is
architecture. Greek architecture is shown in pillars all throughout the modern world. The most

NAEYC Guidelines For Affective Development
Affective development can be defined as the emergence of the emotional capacity to experience,
recognize, and express a range of emotions to adequately response to emotional cues of others.
Adults play a very important role in the affective development in children. Now more than ever,
children are being raised in a very unpredictable world. Adults are now taking on a much greater
challenge when working with young children to help set the foundation for affective development.
When it comes to the educational side of affective development, teachers are given NAEYC
guidelines to help in their decision making. These guidelines are designed to promote competent
young children. It is very important when teaching or caring for children that we offer them a
caring community to learn (Charlesworth, 2014). The foundation of the community is consistent,
positive, caring relationships between adults and children, among children, among teachers and
between teachers and families (Charlesworth, 2014). What this ultimately means as a teacher, is
that you need to provide to these children a safe and secure place to learn. It is also very important
to keep in mind that teaching is about enhancing development, and ensuring that students know that
you genuinely respect, and want what s best for them. When teachers get to know their students,
they can plan more individually based on their specific needs. They are able to better prepare
themselves to provide the students with the least

Nursing Home Abuse And Neglect
Nursing home residents are often subject to abuse and neglect. But the biggest problem is that
nursing home neglect is often not easy to detect. Part of the problem is that a large majority of
nursing home residents are very old. Some can hardly speak while others may be suffering from
dementia or maybe just too afraid to speak up.
In many cases, nursing home abuse and neglect may not even be evident in any physical form.
We all know that emotional abuse often has no physical scars but can leave massive scars on the
inside. There may be situations where the behavior of the nursing home resident changes but even
this can be overlooked by family and friends as they may dismiss such change to old age or
diseases like dementia or Alzheimer s.
For families of nursing home residents in Middleburg, Florida, it is important to be aware of some
warning signs that your loved one may be a victim of nursing home abuse or neglect. These
warning signs include:
Continued loss of body weight
Frequent skin infections
Bed Sores
Sudden change in personality, fearful, scared, or crying
Withdrawn and not socially interactive
Pressure ulcer
Recurrent falls
Worsening of personal hygiene
Environment not safe like slippery floors, poor lighting, broken furniture, unclean bathroom

A Marxist Reading of Shakespeare s Coriolanus Essay examples
A Marxist Reading of Coriolanus
One popular dissecting instrument of any Shakespearean character is the modern tool of
psychoanalysis. Many of Shakespeare s great tragic heroes Macbeth, Hamlet, King Lear, and
Othello, to name a few have all been understood by this method of plying back and interpreting the
layers of motivation and desire that constitute every individual. Add to this list Shakespeare s
Roman warrior Coriolanus. His strong maternal ties coupled with his aggressive and intractable
nature have been ideal fodder for modern psychoanalytic interpretation. This interpretation,
however, falls within a larger, political context. For despite the fact that Coriolanus is a tragedy
largely because of the foibles of its title ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Marxism, essentially, is a theory of the proletarian liberation movement. This theory is dialecticin
that society is seen as a composition of contraries (e.g., rich vs. poor), and that what makes
humanity evolve is the struggle between these contraries. The triumph of one over the other
produces change. Change, however, is resisted by the ruling class because most, if not all, of the
wealth is concentrated in their hands; they in turn control the means of production, allowing them
to exploit the workers for their own ends and widen the gap between the rich and poor even more
in the process. This situation produces alienation in the worker; it deprives him of something, and
this is not only degrading but depersonalizing as well (Appignanesi, 79).
From this perspective, Menenius fable of the belly is clearly fallacious and intended to instill a false
state of consciousness in his listeners. The tale deflects the cause of the plebeians hunger from the
patricians right back at the plebeians themselves:

The gods, not the patricians, make it, and
Your knees to them, not arms, must help (I.i.63 65).

The Problems Of Obedience And Authority

The Problems of Obedience to Authority
People will do about anything to stay out of trouble when it comes to someone with authority that
cannot be argued with. Stanley Milgram did an experiment on the topic of obedience to authority;
he wanted to know how ordinary people could do horrible things if forced to by someone of
authority. Obedience to authority is instinctual for human beings, there has and will always be
someone with a higher authority than ourselves. How can normal, ordinary people that think of
themselves or are thought of as genuinely good people do things that they know is morally wrong
when told to do so by someone of authority? That is the question that Milgram asked himself when
he started his experiments.
The main point of the experiment was to test why people listen and act on what people of
authority tell them to do. Milgram took ordinary people and proved that most of the general
populace is willing to physically hurt another human being if provoked by someone in a position of
authority. This causes a person to question as Encina does, Why were those who challenged
authority in the minority? So entrenched is obedience it may void personal codes of conduct
(Encina).
In the experiment Milgram picked people off of the streets and tested them on how far they would
go to hurt someone when instructed to do so by someone of authority. Respondents were told that
the experiment would

Persuasive Essay On Fracking
For the past six weeks, I have been doing research about fracking and it s effects on the community
and nature. I have spent hours researching and doing experiments to come to a conclusion. I would
like to share my findings with you to make sure this county is informed about the process, as I
know they might not necessarily be. I believe that Fracking should not continue in Ohio. Although
it brings jobs to the country, and bring us domestic fuel, it is becoming a health hazard to bio life,
which is very important.
Fracking (formal name hydraulic fracturing), is the process of which million of gallons of water
are pumped a mile underground to get methane out of pockets in the shale. Fracking fluid is a
mixture of chemicals and water pumped underground through supposedly safe wells. The oil
companies actually doing the fracking say that the wells are completely safe. However, only 50%
of the fracking fluid is brought out of the wells. The rest of it is left underground and never
retrieved. This can contaminate the ground we farm on an the water we drink.. Fracking affects
everyone around the wells, though it may be indirectly. It can affect someone by giving them
millions of dollars for land or contaminating their drinking water. Some environmentalists believe
that this can contaminate water in the aquifer, a mile above the shale.
The composition of fracking fluid has not been released to the public. No one knows what is in the
fluid, but people have predicted. It is thought

Major Benefits Of Estate Planning Essay
Critical Element III. A Estate planning enables individuals and business owners to plan for the
future in cases when unforeseeable events occur. If an unforeseeable demise does occur, the
business will continue to thrive and business assets will be protected from creditor and government
seizure. A few of the more prominent benefits of estate planning include the following: succession
planning, future planning, and minimizing taxliability. All three benefits significantly correlate with
one another since deciding business successors lead to anticipated future success and figuring out
what to do with future assets in the present helps minimize future tax liability. By creating trusts,
business owners can still appreciate assets without the need to pay heavy taxes on the additional
value. However, it is crucial to understand that estate planning differs among business entities in
terms of minimizing tax liability (Agu 2016). A principle difference between the two business

Crime Scene Reconstruction

Crime Scene Reconstruction
ENC 1102 154
Reconstructing a crime scene takes a lot of effort from experienced law enforcement, medical
examiners, and criminalists. All of these professionals give unique perspectives to develop a crime
scene reconstruction. Forensic scientists also play a vital role in helping to reconstruct the crime
scene. They use the crime scene reconstruction to show events that occurred prior to, during, and
after a crime was committed. (Saferstein, 2009) There are many things that these reconstructions
can do to aid in investigations. 3 D reconstructions are more advanced and can show real life
events based on the evidence. Did you know that a crime scene reconstruction takes many steps?

(Clemens D. W., 1998) Investigators don t only look at one type of evidence. There is also the
direct physical evidence. With direct physical evidence, it provides investigators with a definite
conclusion or direction. This type of evidence employs deductive reasoning to state a fact that can
be understood by everyone. For example, if a transfer bloodstain on the clothing of a homicide
victim has a DNA type consistent with that of the suspect, the victim must have had contact with
the suspect after the suspect was injured and began bleeding. (Saferstein, 2009) With all the
evidence that investigators have gathered, they can begin to do some reenactments. Reenactments
are done by live personnel, mannequins, or computer generated models. Anyone or anything used
in a live reenactment needs to be close to the same size and strength or the actual victim and
suspect. (Bennett, 2007) With the reenactments, this allows the investigators to see firsthand if the
scenario is even physically possible. This gives them a great look at every option, and helps them
to find what really could have happened at a crime scene. After all the physical evidence had been
gathered and they have looked at everything, the final step with the crime scene reconstruction is
the, event timeline. This will define each event that occurred at a crime scene in various probable
orders within a known or estimated time frame. (Saferstein, 2009) Most investigators will put this

The South Will Rise Again
Southern Pride You would be hard pressed to find any Southerner who does not know and
understand the sentiment behind the statement, The South will rise again. The South is a region
within the United States that does not follow the generalized American rule. In an effort to identify
what makes the South a distinctive region, one must explore the comparisons of culture, education,
racism, religion, and identity of the South and its people to the rest of America. Through the use of
a wide variety of statistics and comprehensive comparisons, it is possible to understand why
Southerners feel it is important to protect and preserve their heritage from what they consider to be
attacks from outsiders. While the South has experienced many... Show more content on

The South fought the American Civil War as a movement to separate themselves from the Union
and establish its own national citizenship. As a result of their resounding loss, Southerners chose to
focus their energies on maintaining their individual ethnic group which sets them apart from the
rest of the nation. According to John Shelton Reed, author of The Enduring South, The three
functional characteristics of an ethnic group are that: It serves psychologically as a source of group
identification; it provides a pattern network of groups; and it refracts the national cultural patterns
of behavior and values through the prism of its own cultural heritage. Reed allows his readers to
grasp the intensity in which Southerners met, and still meet today, all three of the functional
characteristics of an ethnic group. Throughout his book, Reed purposes to enlighten the reader that
Southern ness is attained by three different measures: birth, achievement, or unwilling thrust (such
as the African Americans who were brought to America under duress). The Enduring South exposes
the element of Southern identity as pride in its heritage, culture, customs, and ideals. The South, as
it has been nationally defined, is referred to as the eleven ex Confederate states, with the additions
of Oklahoma and Kentucky; and the rest of America is referred to as non Southerners. As a means
of maintaining an accurate collection of data, Reed uses the nationally acclaimed

President Franklin Roosevelt And The Great Depression
On October 29, 1929, the American stock market crashed after years of escalating in an event
Americans would forever call Black Tuesday
Became America s most severe economic crash yet
Companies quickly went bankrupt, people became unemployed, and the national money supply was
depleted.
By 1932, nearly one fourth of America had become unemployed
National production was cut in half
Soup kitchens, bread lines, and homeless became a regular sight
Farmers were forced to leave their crops to rot, leaving more people to go hungry
Thousands of banks across America closed down
President Herbert Hoover acted on an aloof approach based on his belief that the government
should not directly interfere in economic affairs. He told the public that the Great Depression was
just a passing incident
Because of Hoover s approach and the millions who were unemployed, the democratic candidate
Franklin Delano Roosevelt was elected with a large majority in November 1932
Despite the widespread panic and waves of bank failures, FDR maintained a calm and controlled
demeanor, motivating many in his inaugural address with his famous quote: The only thing we
have to fear is fear itself
Roosevelt then attempted to end the Great Depression with a series of decisive actions named The
New Deal
Together with his group of scholars Roosevelt called a brain trust, he created a plethora of acts to
provide for people s basic needs
The New Deal consisted of four goals: relieving economic troubles of the

SCADA Policy Controls
The term cybersecurity encompasses a vast amount of topics and imperative security issues.
Perhaps the most difficult issue with cybersecurity is implementing policy controls that are
applicable and effective among a variety of individuals, companies and governments. Policy
controls are needed to reduce cybercrime, cyber terrorism, threats to SCADA systems and zero day
exploits. The most controversial topic that policy controls need to address is Meta data collection
and its terms of usage by not only the government but the private sector as well. Additionally,
government securityregulations in terms of IT security among the private sector need have
implemented policy controls as well. Suggesting effective policies is just the first step in... Show

It is for these reasons that the collection, retention, and sharing of that data must be regulated.
Government regulations could help protect consumers in a variety of ways. The first policy
suggestion would be to provide users with increased control over their personal data. There are a
few key strategies that can be used to increase consumer privacy. The first one is the opt in rule,
which means collection of customer data does not happen by default, and can only happen after a
consumer has given explicit consent. The opt out rule is the collection of consumer data occurs by
default and it is up to the consumer to choose to have that collection stopped. A final strategy is the
anonymizer, which allows consumers to use a businesses services while being logged in under an
anonymous log in (Newman, 2014). Additionally, government policy and regulation should be
aimed at increasing the competition in the marketplace, hence the term marketplace competition, as
means of ensuring that there are multiple businesses that are able to offer varying degrees of
privacy protection to consumers (Newman, 2014). The government can also regulate private
business collection and use

Advantages And Disadvantages Of International Commercial...
5.1 Critical Analysis
International commercial arbitration has evolved, primarily, against the background of two
unifying international traditions: the private international legal tradition, directed at the
harmonization of laws; and the public international law tradition, committed to reducing global
barriers to trade. International Commercial arbitration is the most widely used tool for resolution of
trade or commercial disputes. The effort should be made to tackle the problems which will benefit
commercial transaction activities. Most of the domestic courts were very slow in dealing with
Arbitration cases. Therefore, parties now resort to Arbitration in order to avoid lengthy and
complex litigation procedure.
The Study findings revealed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A practical solution to avoid this issue is to include an Immunity Waiver Clause in the arbitration
agreement. States are generally not comfortable with this clause; however, this puts an obligation
on the state to not use this as a defence during enforcement of awards. Once any State agrees to
arbitration, it is an assumed principle that the State has waived its Sovereign Immunity. Under
International Conventions like New York Convention, if the state enters into an agreement, it is
treated as if the State has waived its Immunity and can be taken up as strong evidence against the
State. The situation is difficult as national courts (dealing with enforcement of awards) refuse to
build up special rules and regulations for the enforcement of arbitral awards and they are guided
by the principles applicable in judicial proceedings . Therefore it is probable on some occasions for
litigants to conquer the hindrance that are present while enforcing an award against

Social Norms And The Affect On Abuse
Social Norms and the Affect on Abuse Sticks and stones may break bones, but words make
psychological scars that never heal (Mr. Turner). A play on the common idiom, sticks and
stones may break my bones but words may never hurt me. Which was once used by parents
universally to justify name calling and harsh words, now sheds light on the darker, often unseen
wounds of words. These wounds and scars, both psychological and physical fall under abuse
and can be ensured, worsened, or inflicted further by harmful social norms. Social norms are
pushed on children from birth and throughout their life as an unwritten set of rules that all
people must live by in their society. This string of abuse has left a countless number of victims
in its wake and continues to do so till this day. Abuse is regrettably a more common part of our
society and is described by Margaret O. Hyde in her work, Know About Abuse, as an, harmful,
injurious, or offensive treatment (Hyde 4). Abuse is usually only limited to the physical signs,
such as; the red ribbons left from the lash of a belt or the blooming bruises from the drop of a
fist. Rarely do those take the time to see the trauma and chaos caused by hateful, derogatory, or
misused words. Forms of abuse, such as verbal abuse, are so common they have managed to
integrate into social norms that include catcalling, slurs, shaming, and other such forms. This affect
of chronic name calling can be seen in Stacy A. Teicher s, Boys vs. Girls:

How Did Marx Contribute To A Crisis State Of Capitalism
In Capital, Marx is concerned with the cycle that Capitalism presents. The pattern of hiring labor
power to extract surplus value then lowering the exchange value of the commodities is striking to
him. It seems counterintuitive for a Capitalist, whose goal is to maximize profits, to continually
lower the value of their product and decrease their profits over time. Marx also highlights four
detrimental consequences that occur as a result of this pattern. All of these consequences are the
basis for his criticism of Capitalism. For Marx there is a distinction between labor and labor power.
Labor is simply the physical act of producing goods and services. On the other hand, labor power
can be defined as the capacity for one to produce. It is important to... Show more content on

It seems counterintuitive to Marx to start at the highest profit potential and sink over time. This
is the starting point for the other effects that result and characterize Marx s crisis state of
Capitalism. First, due to ruinous competition in Capitalism rate of profit falls. This is the trigger
for the other tendencies to follow. Capitalists must begin to work off of decreasing profit
margins because of the product lowering to its actual labor determined value. This falling profit
impacts all capitalists and causes them to realize lower profits over time. The decrease in profits
leads to an effect on the production of goods.Because the cost of production lowers, there becomes
a point when too many of a single product is made. This overproduction is detrimental to the
business of the capitalist, because it eventually requires them to sell for less than the value of the
product. This is the same effect that occurs as a result of competition. Overall, the loss of profit for
the capitalists and the overproduction leads to harmful consequences for the

The Bank of England and The 2008 Financial Crisis Essay
Due to the 2008 financial crisis, the Bank of England employed quantitative easing (an
unconventional monetary policy used to stimulate the economy) by cutting interest rates down to
0.5 % and has been keeping it until now. The Bank made the decision to keep QE and the interest
rate unchanged in March. Spare capacity (the ability of a firm to produce more of a product than
is now being produced) is used by the BoE to justify its use of forward guidance policy (a
communicative tool for monetary policy). Low interest rates improved the economy by increasing
consumption and investment, which are the components of AD. The AD curve shows the total
spending on goods and services in a period of time at a given price level. In constructing on AD...

The money supply will increase as the components of AD (C+I) rise. Figure 2 illustrates the
increase in money supply through showing the rightward shift of the MS curve, from MS1 to
MS2. The money demand will remain the same (MD). Therefore, increasing the money supply
will lower the interest rate from i1 to i2. This is partly due to the increased availability of money.
More money around means it is easier to acquire and thus command lower interest rates. However,
such an increase in money supply may also increase the inflation rate and possibly cause a
hyperinflation if uncontrolled.
The main benefit of low interest rates is its stimulating effect on economy. The BoE can help start
businesses spending on goods which helps the economy in the long run and can help consumers to
spend more on durable goods. Also the consumers demand for products will increase. This will
force the firms to try to meet the demands by hiring additional workers which in turn will reduce
the unemployment rate.
A disadvantage of low interest rates is low interest rates harm savers and those who rely heavily
on interest income in the long run. Workers are influenced by lowered interest rates because the
firms that benefited from the changes in rates will hire more workers while the opposite will be
true for the negatively affected firms. Stockholders are affected because when interest rates rise,
stocks tend to fall. Suppliers

  • 2. I Was Arrested For 11th Degree Criminal Trespassing On December , I was arrested for 3rd degree criminal trespassing. That day I was heading to go see my dad at the hospital. He had suffered his second stroke and doctors wanted to talk about what is possible for him since he was hooked on machines and unable to move or communicate in anyway for himself, i was also his power of attorney so i would speak for him. I was focused on nothing more than seeing my dad, but first i had to drop off my friend s shoes she had let me borrow. Along the way i saw a walmart and i had not eaten all day and thoughti could go in to get some snacks and a smoothie for my dad. I called my friend to come pick me up at the walmart instead and drive me to the hospital. She didn t live far so i thought by the time i came out the store she would have already been outside waiting for me, but that wasn t the case. My phone had died at that point so i had no way of calling her to let her know where i would be, so i decided to sit in front of the store where she could see me since the bench inside was taken by a woman and her kids. 5 minutes later an officer came asking me what i was doing there. I explained to him that i was waiting for a friend to come pick me up and that she ll be here soon. He said okay but then proceeded to ask me questions like how many times have I been arrested or how long i have been away from home or rather or not i bought the items in my bag. I didn t understand why he was asking me all of those questions and began to feel ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The patients show normal memories for events that occurred before the injury but has severely impaired ability to recall information about events that occurred after the incident. Anterograde amnesiais reflected in the movie 50 first dates through the main character, Lucy Whitmore, whose memory lasts only a day because her memory stopped on the day of car accident. (additional description) The movie, 50 first dates, contains valid depiction of anterograde amnesiayet it also contains some dramatic points that is far from reality. Although the movie, 50 first dates, was fairly dramatic, it accurately portrays the possible struggles that patients may experience from anterograde amnesia. The main idea of the movie is that the main character Lucy gets into a car accident on the day of her father s birthday. The accident causes a severe brain injury to her temporal lobe and it leads her to suffer from anterograde amnesia. Because memories of any events occurred after the accident fades away, Lucy wakes up every morning thinking that it is October 13th, the day of a car accident. Lucy s family helps Lucy to constantly relive the day before her accident to avoid a pain that Lucy may have as she discovers her condition. On the other hand, Henry comes into her life thinking that it is better to update her with important events through ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Spanish Exploration Spanish and English Exploration From 1492 1648 Many explorers of the time had dreams of finding new and better routes to other lands and with the help and finances of their home or neighboring countries they were able to find these routes and convert to Christianity those they came in contact with. Spain and England of the fifteenth to seventeenth centuries were two such countries who wanted to convert the world to Christianity as well as find new resources or new routes to existing resources while also converting the natives of the land to their religion. The fifteenth century was challenging for the country of Spain. For example, towards the end of the century, Spain was embroiled in a sustained battle with the last group of Muslims to ... For many years, ships that were used to navigate the Mediterranean were powered by men who would row and be equipped with small sails in the shape of a triangle. Over the years Portugal realized that, while these ships were good for small voyages, they would not be practical for an Atlantic crossing. They soon designed a ship with bigger, stronger, and square sails capable of harnessing the wind and carrying explorers longer distances. Columbus on his voyage saw the advantage of these sails and used them on his own ships that carried him across the Atlantic. English ships were very much like those of the Spaniards with square masts. However, English ships were also equipped with lateen sails along with their square masts that were used through out the sixteenth century, which helped it cut through the waters of the Atlantic. While obtaining a ship to cross the Atlantic was important, the explorers also needed the backing of the wealthy to finance their trips. These wealthy individuals were also venture capitalists that wanted a part of what they believed would be found whether this was gold, silver or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These two men were influential people in each of their own generations. Being President was something that they both got to experience during their lifetime. Implicating policies and supervising foreign and domestic affairs, both John Adamsand John Quincy Adams impacted the history of America while being the 2nd and 6th president of our great nation. John Adams and John Quincy Adams were both born in Braintree, Massachusetts 32 years apart. The French retaliated by taking over United States Merchant ships. All relations with France were terminated. An unofficial war was in the mist which is now referred to as the Quasi War. John Adams attempt at solving this problem was the XYZ Affair. The United States had to pay a very large bribe for the representatives sent to even begin to speak about negotiations with the French. When the United States Navy got involved in defending the nation the Treaty of Mortefontaine was created in 1800 to prevent an actual war. In order to further protect the nation from foreign threat Adams passed the Alien and Sedition Acts of 1798. These laws were very questionable and did not last long. They allowed the president to deport anyone he saw who posed a threat to the nation, made it harder to become a citizen, and put limits on new voters. John Quincy Adams was more or less successful domestically. While in office John Quincy Adams promoted the building of roads and canals, banks, and universities. The Erie Canal was completed on October, 26, 1825. Adams had many critics when he passed a tariff bill that raised prices on a lot of goods. • 6. A Social Worker Essay For decades, British governments pledged to combat and reduce the alleged cost of addressing the associated harms of substance misuse. Critics argue ploughing money into substance misuse diverts billions of pounds from more productive expenditure (Fordham et al, 2007). Yet investment in this area is essential for improving the prospects of future generations, especially as unknown numbers of children are subjected to hidden harm amid their home environment (ACMD, 2003). Having unsuccessfully trialled different initiatives, the latest drug policy resorted to recovery . This approach tackles addictionby addressing wider contributory issues to encourage respectful and socially accepted behaviour, and individuals to eventually contribute as fully fledged members of the community (HM Gov, 2010). Despite the benefits, many are reluctant to participate within the recovery programme. Hesitancy primarily originates from the prejudicial attitude of structural forces, like government and the media, which caused substance misuse to become one of the most stigmatised conditions (Livingston et al, 2012). The role of a social worker is to minimise the impact of stigma by demonstrating that service users are accepted and worthy of assistance, boosting their morale and self esteem, and working alongside them to show that recovery is really possible. This essay analyses the main drivers making substance misusers resistant to changing their behaviour, as well as discusses the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Northern Economy Vs. Southern Economy In the beginning of the 1800s, it was kind of easy to tell that the North and the South were not alike since, in the North, slavery was forbidden, while in the South, it was the most important part of the community. As years passed by, differences became more evolved, especially when the North became more industrial, and its economy became a market economy. Though the North and South both have different economies, and different daily lives, they both have similarities. In the North, people determined how long they worked by a clock. Also, when they worked, they were paid in wages. So pretty much, payment was determined by the hour. In the South it was different. If a Southerner worked hard in his job, they had a higher chance of getting more money than a person who slacks. For the North, living situations, and the environment isn t the best, when it comes to the Northern cities. With the water pollution from feces and more components of an unclean, over populated environment, sicknesses came frequently and caused a lot of deaths among the people of the north (Paraphrased Problems). In the south, the general people s environment was far from city like. Most of the land, due to the fact that the South was mostly agrarian, was full of continuous farm land. The Literary Analysis Of The Herodotus Of Halicarnassus Little is known of the life of Herodotus of Halicarnassus who was born in a part of the Greek empire in what is present day Turkey, and lived between ca. 484 and 420 BC, other than that he was the author of the Histories. It was the first history to break with the Homeric way of relating history by interweaving it with myth and delivering it in the style of poetry. Instead, Herodotus produced systematic accounts of historyfollowing a chronological order, assembled as many facts and forms of evidence as possible, and used them with a critical spirit of analysis. Herodotus then zooms in and pictures the conflict taking place hand to hand within a temple to Demeter, again underscoring the intimate relationship between military violence and religious veneration. The ferocity of war and combat is heightened here, as elsewhere, in descriptive additions and language flavored with adjectives. Herodotus displays a detailed concern with the accessories of combat and pays particular attention to the fact that the Persians were relatively lightly armed. Indeed, over the course of the Histories at large, armaments emerge as an important factor in determining military victories. Here, the Persians were neither less valorous nor weaker, but they had no amour; moreover, they were unskilled and no match for their adversaries in craft . The picture of the Persians as valorous but unskilled, and many in number but reckless, is not limited to this excerpt it is one of the main themes of the Histories overall. Later commentators have picked up on Herodotus s repeated negative characterizations of the Persians as a barbaric race as indicative of his general way of formulating an undesirable picture of the Other. Hartog, in particular, has spoken about Herodotus s mirror held up to the Persians, reflecting them as barbaric and savage in comparison to the Greeks, especially in terms of their fighting methods. The Sociology Of Health And Mental Illness пїјJohn Goulder (13005053) MBBS SSC Year 2: Library Project Dissertation Supervisor: Professor Paul Higgs Submitted: Tuesday, 13 January 2015 A Tale of Two Asylums: Reviewing the context and influences of two theorists, Michel Foucault and Erving Goffman, on the sociology of health and mental illness. Word count: 3,132 John Goulder! 1 пїјIntroduction: Mental Health as Disparate Social Object Antipsychiatry was as much a cultural phenomenon as an academic or institutional one. Whilst the work of Laing (1960) and Szasz (1960) can be rooted in the Fruedo Marxist methodological individualism of critical theory (Rogers Pilgrim, 2010: 14), or even a broader constructionist critique of medical truth, it just as easily lends itself to a more limited historicist Libertarian reading: mental illness as socio political deviance within an encroaching state (Sumner, 1994). Within this interface must be located the panoply of iconographic representation (Shorter, 1997: 273) within wider mass culture: Sumner cites the example of Ken Kesey s One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest as salacious and sensational as it may be which became, for a generation, a precipitation of populist anti sentiment towards psychiatric institutions and their operative physicians. It is clear then that the dialectic of mind and its healer transcends theoretical partitions, spans academic disciplines, and crosses the great divide to take up its place within the popular consciousness. Also The Truman Doctrine was the first message that America prepared to global leadership and also this doctrine shows that the isolationism policy of America has ended. The Truman Doctrine At the present moment in world history nearly every nation must choose between alternative ways of life. The choice is too often not a free one. One way of life is based upon the will of the majority, and is distinguished by free institutions, representative government, free elections, and guarantees of individual liberty, freedom of speech and religion, and freedom from political oppression. The second way of life is based upon the will of a minority forcibly imposed upon the majority. It relies upon terror and oppression, a controlled press and radio, fixed elections, and the suppression of personal freedoms. I believe that it must be the policy of the United States to support free peoples who are resisting attempted subjugation by armed minorities or by outside pressures. I believe that we must assist free peoples to work out their own destinies in their own way. I believe that our help should be primarily through economic stability and orderly political process. In a time that can be called an era of revolution, the Atlantic World faced a multitude of uprisings. The American Revolution in 1765 would be the start of the age of revolutions, and would later inspire the revolutions of other countries across the Atlantic, such as the French Revolution in 1789, the Haitian Revolution in 1791, and later the Latin American Revolutions during the early nineteenth century. As a matter of fact, about all of the sugar and other commodities, such as molasses, that was being consumed in the United States had been imported from Haiti. The mass production of all the commodities did not happen by itself, but rather it happened due to the intensive labour of the slave population. Furthermore, the population of Saint Domingue around this time was approximately 500,000, and of that total population ninety percent of it was slaves. With the abolishment of slavery in Haiti s constitution, the commodities produced, especially the sugar economy, took a massive hit. • 19. The Character of Macbeth in William Shakespeare s Play Essay The Character of Macbeth in William Shakespeare s Play Macbeth Macbeth was most likely written in 1606, early in the reign of James I, who had been James VI of Scotland before he succeeded to the English throne in 1603. James was a patron of Shakespeare s acting company, and of all the plays Shakespeare wrote under James s reign, Macbeth most clearly reflects the playwright s close relationship with the sovereign. In focusing on Macbeth, a figure from Scottish history, Shakespeare paid homage to his king s Scottish lineage. Additionally, the witches prophecy that Banquo will found a line of kings is a clear nod to James family s claim to have descended from the historical Banquo. In a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The conventions of a play like Macbeth are very clear, as Shakespeare presents them to the audience throughout. For example, when Macbeth is on stage on his own he has several monologues. These can be perceived as the character talking to the audience, as this empowers the audience, and the reader of the play. When characters are alone on stage they gain a greater meaning of the art form, and can relate to both the character on stage, and any political or cultural factor involved within the play. Moments like this in the play are easy for the audience to understand, Shakespeare clearly lays out the form for the audience throughout the play and this helps develop the meaning. Macbeth is a famously violent play. Interestingly, most of the killings take place offstage, but throughout the play the characters provide the audience with gory descriptions of the carnage, from the opening scene where the captain describes Macbeth and Banquo wading in blood on the battlefield, to the endless references to the bloodstained hands of Macbeth and his wife. The action is bookended by a pair of bloody battles: in the first, Macbeth defeats the invaders; in the second, he is slain and beheaded by Macduff. In between is a series of murders: Duncan, Duncan s chamberlains, Banquo, Lady Macduff, and Macduff s son all come to bloody ends. By the end of the action, blood seems to be everywhere. ... Educational Implications for Heidegger s Views On Poetry And Thinking ABSTRACT: I discuss some of the educational implications emerging from Heidegger s views on poetry, thinking, and language. Specifically, Heidegger s views on the neighborhood between poetry and thinking suggest that most accepted methods of teaching poetry are in error, because they ignore this neighboring relation. The importance of this relation is presented and clarified. I then discuss the implications of Heidegger s view for teaching poetry. It means following a specific path in that region. But in thinking about the nature of language we encounter specific problems. When we speak of the nature of language, we are already using language to discuss its nature. Furthermore, we are already acquainted with the nature of language as people who use it, even if we cannot clearly articulate and define this nature. In short, we are entangled in a lagging behind the topic of our inquiry. There is a way out of our predicament. If we look around the region of thought, without taking the entanglement lightly, we will note that what Heidegger calls the country of thinking is open in all directions to the neighborhood of poetry. Thus, today, when scientific method tends to suffocate thinking, we can return to thinking through reading and listening to poetry. To be specific, the fact that the country of thinking is open in all directions to the neighborhood of poetry, can often help a person follow those paths of thinking that concern him or her. How? Adults are now taking on a much greater challenge when working with young children to help set the foundation for affective development. Change, however, is resisted by the ruling class because most, if not all, of the wealth is concentrated in their hands; they in turn control the means of production, allowing them to exploit the workers for their own ends and widen the gap between the rich and poor even more in the process. The Problems Of Obedience And Authority Evangelina Venturini Colleen Harvel English F6974 October 15, 2014 The Problems of Obedience to Authority People will do about anything to stay out of trouble when it comes to someone with authority that cannot be argued with. Stanley Milgram did an experiment on the topic of obedience to authority; he wanted to know how ordinary people could do horrible things if forced to by someone of authority. Obedience to authority is instinctual for human beings, there has and will always be someone with a higher authority than ourselves. How can normal, ordinary people that think of themselves or are thought of as genuinely good people do things that they know is morally wrong when told to do so by someone of authority? That is the question that Milgram asked himself when he started his experiments. The main point of the experiment was to test why people listen and act on what people of authority tell them to do. Milgram took ordinary people and proved that most of the general populace is willing to physically hurt another human being if provoked by someone in a position of authority. This causes a person to question as Encina does, Why were those who challenged authority in the minority? So entrenched is obedience it may void personal codes of conduct (Encina). Although it brings jobs to the country, and bring us domestic fuel, it is becoming a health hazard to bio life, which is very important. Fracking (formal name hydraulic fracturing), is the process of which million of gallons of water are pumped a mile underground to get methane out of pockets in the shale. Fracking fluid is a mixture of chemicals and water pumped underground through supposedly safe wells. The oil companies actually doing the fracking say that the wells are completely safe. However, only 50% of the fracking fluid is brought out of the wells. The rest of it is left underground and never retrieved. This can contaminate the ground we farm on an the water we drink.. Fracking affects everyone around the wells, though it may be indirectly. It can affect someone by giving them millions of dollars for land or contaminating their drinking water. Some environmentalists believe that this can contaminate water in the aquifer, a mile above the shale. The composition of fracking fluid has not been released to the public. No one knows what is in the fluid, but people have predicted. It is thought ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 42. Major Benefits Of Estate Planning Essay Critical Element III. A Estate planning enables individuals and business owners to plan for the future in cases when unforeseeable events occur. If an unforeseeable demise does occur, the business will continue to thrive and business assets will be protected from creditor and government seizure. A few of the more prominent benefits of estate planning include the following: succession planning, future planning, and minimizing taxliability. All three benefits significantly correlate with one another since deciding business successors lead to anticipated future success and figuring out what to do with future assets in the present helps minimize future tax liability. By creating trusts, business owners can still appreciate assets without the need to pay heavy taxes on the additional value. However, it is crucial to understand that estate planning differs among business entities in terms of minimizing tax liability (Agu 2016). A principle difference between the two business entities is how the business owners are impacted by the tax liability. C Corporations are classified as being a separate taxable entity while partnerships are flow through entities. As a separate taxable entity, C corporationbusiness owners are not responsible for paying taxes regarding to the business, but they are taxed on the shareholder dividends; a concept otherwise known as double taxation. On the other hand, partnerships handle taxes a little differently. The resulting operating income is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Crime Scene Reconstruction Kristin Waters Crime Scene Reconstruction ENC 1102 154 Reconstructing a crime scene takes a lot of effort from experienced law enforcement, medical examiners, and criminalists. All of these professionals give unique perspectives to develop a crime scene reconstruction. Forensic scientists also play a vital role in helping to reconstruct the crime scene. They use the crime scene reconstruction to show events that occurred prior to, during, and after a crime was committed. There is also the direct physical evidence. With direct physical evidence, it provides investigators with a definite conclusion or direction. This type of evidence employs deductive reasoning to state a fact that can be understood by everyone. For example, if a transfer bloodstain on the clothing of a homicide victim has a DNA type consistent with that of the suspect, the victim must have had contact with the suspect after the suspect was injured and began bleeding. (Saferstein, 2009) With all the evidence that investigators have gathered, they can begin to do some reenactments. Reenactments are done by live personnel, mannequins, or computer generated models. Anyone or anything used in a live reenactment needs to be close to the same size and strength or the actual victim and suspect. (Bennett, 2007) With the reenactments, this allows the investigators to see firsthand if the scenario is even physically possible. This gives them a great look at every option, and helps them to find what really could have happened at a crime scene. After all the physical evidence had been gathered and they have looked at everything, the final step with the crime scene reconstruction is the, event timeline. This will define each event that occurred at a crime scene in various probable orders within a known or estimated time frame. (Saferstein, 2009) Most investigators will put this timeline ... The South is a region within the United States that does not follow the generalized American rule. In an effort to identify what makes the South a distinctive region, one must explore the comparisons of culture, education, racism, religion, and identity of the South and its people to the rest of America. Through the use of a wide variety of statistics and comprehensive comparisons, it is possible to understand why Southerners feel it is important to protect and preserve their heritage from what they consider to be attacks from outsiders. The South fought the American Civil War as a movement to separate themselves from the Union and establish its own national citizenship. As a result of their resounding loss, Southerners chose to focus their energies on maintaining their individual ethnic group which sets them apart from the rest of the nation. According to John Shelton Reed, author of The Enduring South, The three functional characteristics of an ethnic group are that: It serves psychologically as a source of group identification; it provides a pattern network of groups; and it refracts the national cultural patterns of behavior and values through the prism of its own cultural heritage. Reed allows his readers to grasp the intensity in which Southerners met, and still meet today, all three of the functional characteristics of an ethnic group. Throughout his book, Reed purposes to enlighten the reader that Southern ness is attained by three different measures: birth, achievement, or unwilling thrust (such as the African Americans who were brought to America under duress). The Enduring South exposes the element of Southern identity as pride in its heritage, culture, customs, and ideals. The South, as it has been nationally defined, is referred to as the eleven ex Confederate states, with the additions of Oklahoma and Kentucky; and the rest of America is referred to as non Southerners. Advantages And Disadvantages Of International Commercial... 5.1 Critical Analysis International commercial arbitration has evolved, primarily, against the background of two unifying international traditions: the private international legal tradition, directed at the harmonization of laws; and the public international law tradition, committed to reducing global barriers to trade. International Commercial arbitration is the most widely used tool for resolution of trade or commercial disputes. The effort should be made to tackle the problems which will benefit commercial transaction activities. Most of the domestic courts were very slow in dealing with Arbitration cases. A practical solution to avoid this issue is to include an Immunity Waiver Clause in the arbitration agreement. States are generally not comfortable with this clause; however, this puts an obligation on the state to not use this as a defence during enforcement of awards. Under International Conventions like New York Convention, if the state enters into an agreement, it is treated as if the State has waived its Immunity and can be taken up as strong evidence against the State. The situation is difficult as national courts (dealing with enforcement of awards) refuse to build up special rules and regulations for the enforcement of arbitral awards and they are guided by the principles applicable in judicial proceedings . • 48. Social Norms And The Affect On Abuse Social Norms and the Affect on Abuse Sticks and stones may break bones, but words make psychological scars that never heal (Mr. Turner). A play on the common idiom, sticks and stones may break my bones but words may never hurt me. Which was once used by parents universally to justify name calling and harsh words, now sheds light on the darker, often unseen wounds of words. These wounds and scars, both psychological and physical fall under abuse and can be ensured, worsened, or inflicted further by harmful social norms. Social norms are pushed on children from birth and throughout their life as an unwritten set of rules that all people must live by in their society. This string of abuse has left a countless number of victims in its wake and continues to do so till this day. Abuse is regrettably a more common part of our society and is described by Margaret O. Hyde in her work, Know About Abuse, as an, harmful, injurious, or offensive treatment (Hyde 4). Abuse is usually only limited to the physical signs, such as; the red ribbons left from the lash of a belt or the blooming bruises from the drop of a fist. Rarely do those take the time to see the trauma and chaos caused by hateful, derogatory, or misused words. Forms of abuse, such as verbal abuse, are so common they have managed to integrate into social norms that include catcalling, slurs, shaming, and other such forms. • 49. How Did Marx Contribute To A Crisis State Of Capitalism In Capital, Marx is concerned with the cycle that Capitalism presents. The pattern of hiring labor power to extract surplus value then lowering the exchange value of the commodities is striking to him. It seems counterintuitive for a Capitalist, whose goal is to maximize profits, to continually lower the value of their product and decrease their profits over time. Marx also highlights four detrimental consequences that occur as a result of this pattern. All of these consequences are the basis for his criticism of Capitalism. For Marx there is a distinction between labor and labor power. Labor is simply the physical act of producing goods and services. On the other hand, labor power can be defined as the capacity for one to produce. It is important to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It seems counterintuitive to Marx to start at the highest profit potential and sink over time. This is the starting point for the other effects that result and characterize Marx s crisis state of Capitalism. First, due to ruinous competition in Capitalism rate of profit falls. This is the trigger for the other tendencies to follow. Capitalists must begin to work off of decreasing profit margins because of the product lowering to its actual labor determined value. This falling profit impacts all capitalists and causes them to realize lower profits over time. The decrease in profits leads to an effect on the production of goods.Because the cost of production lowers, there becomes a point when too many of a single product is made. This overproduction is detrimental to the business of the capitalist, because it eventually requires them to sell for less than the value of the product. This is the same effect that occurs as a result of competition. Overall, the loss of profit for the capitalists and the overproduction leads to harmful consequences for the ... • 50. The Bank of England and The 2008 Financial Crisis Essay Due to the 2008 financial crisis, the Bank of England employed quantitative easing (an unconventional monetary policy used to stimulate the economy) by cutting interest rates down to 0.5 % and has been keeping it until now. The Bank made the decision to keep QE and the interest rate unchanged in March. Spare capacity (the ability of a firm to produce more of a product than is now being produced) is used by the BoE to justify its use of forward guidance policy (a communicative tool for monetary policy). Low interest rates improved the economy by increasing consumption and investment, which are the components of AD. The money supply will increase as the components of AD (C+I) rise. Figure 2 illustrates the increase in money supply through showing the rightward shift of the MS curve, from MS1 to MS2. The money demand will remain the same (MD). Therefore, increasing the money supply will lower the interest rate from i1 to i2. This is partly due to the increased availability of money. More money around means it is easier to acquire and thus command lower interest rates. However, such an increase in money supply may also increase the inflation rate and possibly cause a hyperinflation if uncontrolled. The main benefit of low interest rates is its stimulating effect on economy. The BoE can help start businesses spending on goods which helps the economy in the long run and can help consumers to spend more on durable goods. Also the consumers demand for products will increase. This will force the firms to try to meet the demands by hiring additional workers which in turn will reduce the unemployment rate. A disadvantage of low interest rates is low interest rates harm savers and those who rely heavily on interest income in the long run. Workers are influenced by lowered interest rates because the firms that benefited from the changes in rates will hire more workers while the opposite will be true for the negatively affected firms. Stockholders are affected because when interest rates rise, stocks tend to fall. Suppliers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
