Theme Of Seize The Day By Saul Bellow
Bellow is considered as one of the most celebrated authors of the 20th century and American
literature s most resourceful writer for all times. He has come to his prominence slowly through a
careful building up of a body of work, a composition displaying greater insight, range of power,
with each new novel. Since his appearance on the literary scene in the midforties, Saul Bellow,
recipient of the 1976 Nobel Prize for literature, has left his mark on the international literary world.
He is one the few contemporary authors who has been able to sustain the interest and dominate the
field of academic and scholarly inquiry for over four decades. His fiction typically addresses the
meaning of human existence in an increasingly aloof and world of mechanism. Writing in a
humorous, subjective style, Bellow often depicts introspective individuals sorting out a conflict
between the old worldand the new worldvalues while coping with personal anxieties and
objectives. Saul bellow has been a most persistent chronicler of America s restless search for

The novelist had pictured the theme of alienation throughout the story within the character of this
protagonist. Tommy is fighting a lonely battle against the encroaching selfishness, heartlessness,
and cynicism of the modern materialized world. He rejects the loveless world and the existence of
the voracious in human nature. Hence Saul Bellow exposes one of the major theme: the destruction
of human by his humane ideals. Tommy s character is a typical example for that: though he is

Heroes Of The Enlightenment Analysis
In the video Heroes of the Enlightenment by Humanist Society of Australia Inc, the author explains
how during the seventeenth and eighteenth century European philosophy, science and politics were
reoriented as part of a movement known as the Age of Enlightenment. The objective of the
Enlightenment was to inform the public, aiming to persuade others about the main hero s ideas
within that era. As well as, how they shaped the world that we live in today.
The first hero of the enlightenment was Isaac Newton who was an innovator of modern science, and
he founded the theory of gravity. He believed knowledge was not only written in the bible but also
about observing what happens in our surroundings. Newton conceived gravity by watching an
apple that was falling from a tree. Where other people would see just an apple falling, Newton had
seen universal forces that were in action. Newton believed that God set up the universe in its eternal
state. Newton s contributions gave people access to knowledge within the world. ... Show more

He was put in prison for claiming that knowledge came from common sense, and not divine
revelation. Being imprisoned kept him from writing his biggest accomplishment the Encyclopedie.
When Diderot was released from jail, the encyclopedia was published. The pope censured the
Encyclopedie and demanded it be burned. After the encyclopedia being banned, it skyrocketed in
the publishing industry. The encyclopedia included ideas, trade skills that were explained in detail,
and philosophy craft. His book brought other authors to introduce human

How Did Pope John Paul II Impact The World
Pope John Paul II created religious ideas, used (Habit of mind) to innovate (ways to overcome

an exciting, different way.
Pope John Paul II created amazing things, but not in a way you would expect. He created ideas.
Instead of doing things the way everyone else did, he made people think. At an early age, John
Paul was exposed to wonderful outgoing people that inspired him, like Jan Tryanowski. (http:/
/www.catholic.org) They shaped his exciting yet inspiring personality. Since he was from Poland,
he cared about ideas that were advertised there. Pope John Paul was one of the reasons communism
was put to a stop in Poland.
Pope John Paul II had any different people to talk to and points to make, so being innovative was
very important. To get through to everyone, sometimes he had to look at things another way. Many

While he was finding his interest in priesthood, the Second World War occurred. The troubles he
had were very hard but by listening and thinking flexibly, he was able to overcome them. John

visited Ireland, Poland, Dominican Republic, Turkey, and USA, just in 1979! Throughout his

Research Paper On Why Military Service Should Be Mandatory
Military Service: Should It Be Mandatory? Fighting for the homeland means fighting for freedom,
but how can men defend their country against enemies if they lack of the ability to fight?
Conscription is strategy that utilized by nations to assemble a large and powerful military,
prepared to be deployed in times of war or when the need to ensure the power of the state emerges.
Mostly, conscriptionis for male and in some cases and some countries have also for women, and
usually begins as soon as the end of the study; at the age, 18 years old. It consists of basic training
and serve for two to three years maximum. Countries depend on their soldiers to protect and defend

Most people maintain that serving the community should be voluntary, and each individual has the
absolute freedom to join or not to join the military service. However, it is argued that military
service builds individual personality and improves his skills in combat and defense, so there is no
rational reason not to make conscription mandatory. A person s character changed for the better
during his service in the military. To begin with, mandatory service teaches the person self
discipline. Michael Anthony, an author who served in US army, writes in his article, What the
Military Teaches About Self Discipline, that discipline must be ground into conscript. He needs to
gain physical strength, perseverance, knowledge, and courage, n.d. When an individual joins the
military service, he forces to do more than he thinks he can; he learns to obey commands and
commits to important values, such as learning how to be punctual in time. Daily workouts, meals,

Guns Germs And Steel Discussion Questions
1.Yali s question is Why is it that you white people developed so much cargo and brought it to
New Guinea, but we black people had little cargo of our own? In a broader sense, why did some
things progress in some areas, but not in others?
2.The first consideration Diamond discusses is that just because something happened and that it
would have happened anyway, it does not make the act good or just. The second consideration is
that the most powerful region, in this case, western Europe, should not be the only one talked about
because ideas and practices that are now or were at that time integrated into their culture were not
necessarily developed by them, but by other culture that imported their beliefs into European
culture. The third ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This led to a growth in population because now there was no restriction on how often you could
have children, just how many you can care for. This led to a greater population density which
ultimately started civilizations.
8.One factor that contributed to the transition from hunting gathering to farming was the decline
in the availability of wild foods to gather. A second factor was an increased availability of wild
plants. A third factor was the development of technologies that food production would later depend
upon. A fourth factor was the link between the rise in population density and the rise in food
production. A fifth factor was food producers could force hunter gatherers to leave or kill them off
because of the great numbers they had.
9.One advantage the Fertile Crescent had in food production was that it had a Mediterranean
climate that was mild and wet in the winter and hot and dry in the long summers. This allows
plants to grow quickly after the dry season when the rain comes back. A second advantage was
many plants there were already very abundant and very productive. A third advantage was that it
had a lot of hermaphrodite plants that would almost always pollinate themselves and occasionally
cross pollinate which allowed a little more variety. A fourth advantage was that the area had
different levels of elevation which allowed a variety of plants to grow in a small

Bartolome Esteban Murillo St. Francis At Prayer Analysis
Bartolome Esteban Murillo, St. Francis of Assisi at Prayer (1645 1650)
In the painting St. Francis is barefoot purposefully in accordance with his chosen lifestyle.
Francis choice the live in poverty originates from a sermon he heard in 1209 on Mathew 10:9,
which states, Do not take gold or silver or copper for your belts, (New American Bible). Verses 5 15
of Mathew is the commissioning of the twelve disciples in which Jesus tells them to go, without
money or shoes, to preach about His coming (Catholic Encyclopedia). This inspired Francis to
preach the gospel, which was abnormal because he was not an ordained priest. Regardless, within
a year he had eleven followers or friars that chose to live simply with him. In 1209 he also wrote

Peace and mercy be to all who follow the rule and to the Israel of God. From now on, let no one
make troubles for me; for I bear the marks of Jesus on my body. The grace of our Lord Jesus
Christ be with your spirit, brothers and sisters. Amen, (New American Bible). St. Paul indicates
the Gospel or Good News is not just for Jews, but for all people. He then says that he belongs to
Christ through the marks of Jesus on my body in which he refers to physical wounds received from
his persecution. This relates to St Francis of Assisi at Prayer in that Francis is painted with a tear
in his robe in which the viewer can see a wound upon his chest. The knots in the rope around his
waist are important as well in that it represents the vows of poverty, chastity and obedience. The
skull next to the cross is also of consequence in that it is a symbol associated with St. Francis and
serves to remind of the mortality of

Essay On The Francine Odyssey
Quirky, upbeat music plays as Sam and Suzy continue their adventure by preparing dinner,
watching deer, and hiking through the rain. The map shows their journey on a dotted line to
illustrate the length of it and their arrival. At their newly formed campsite, they catch fish for
dinner and decide to take inventory. While Sam brought everything they seem to need for
outdoor survival, Suzy brought (her brother s) record player, kitten food, records, books, lefty
scissors, rubber bands, batteries, toothbrush, and binoculars. Of course Sam s concern is other
whether she stole the books from the library. They discuss why she would do that coming down
to the fact that her parents have a book called Coping with a Very Troubled Child. At this Sam
laughs despite himself, which upsets Suzy causing her to storm off to the tent and zip it up.
Sam, after processing for a few dumbfounded seconds, goes after her to tent. He apologizes and
tells her that he is on her side which she accepts. During the interaction, each child s face is
shown close up as though the viewer was the one sitting in front of them, adding another sense of
depth into this fictional world. Suzy ends up reading her favorite book to Sam called The
Francine Odyssey, a reference to Homer s Odyssey, a story about a man s long journey back home.
This would, at first glance, be considered iconic, but in actuality this journey transforms each child
s family so that they might finally feel at home. Sam falls asleep, but

Humans Dumber Comfort is a freedom from pain or constraint. Comfort is state of ease not only
to the body, but to the human mind as well. People s minds were evolving and getting bigger and
became highly functional trying to find the best way to change the face of life. With all the new
inventions people passed the line of essentials. People acquired the comforts of life that took
away the focus from what is necessary. Are the comforts making people s lives exceedingly
enjoyable? Or are they somehow limiting their ability to think and do daily tasks? All the new
contrivances around the clock advanced life in every possible way. By doing so, people got lazy.

David Foster Wallace’s essay Consider the Lobster
Consider the Audience
The gluttonous lords of the land capture those who are unable to defend themselves, boil the
captives alive, and then feast on their flesh. Could this be the plot of some new summer
blockbuster? It could be, in fact, but for now we will focus on how this depiction of events
compares to David Foster Wallaces essay, Consider the Lobster, which starts as a review of the
Maine Lobster Festival, but soon morphs into an indictment of not only the conventions of lobster
preparation, but also the entire idea of having an animal killed for one s own consumption.
Wallace shows great skill in establishing ethos. In the essay, he succeeds in snaring a receptive
audience by laying out a well baited trap for an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unfortunately, the words themselves are not a perfect fit for the duality of the readership. For
our purposes, we will say that most of the Gourmet readers are probably in the optimist crowd,
but they are also the omnivores typical of the Standard American Diet: they will eat anything so
long as it is expertly prepared and tasty. The pessimists are the segment of Wallace s readership
who are actually most receptive to his arguments. The reasons behind any particular reader s
membership in this group are numerous: the reader may be a vegetarian, or opposed to the typical
method of lobster preparation, or may just be opposed to commercial fishing and/or
commercialized food festivals. The specific reasons are not important; what is important is that
Wallace does not have to fight to keep this audience: he just has to keep from alienating them. It is
the optimists for whom he must fight.
Wallace must tread a careful path in the opening four pages of his article. In this stage, if his
language is too negative, he will lose the optimist majority, but if he caters to that portion of his
audience too heavily, he will lose those whom he is most likely to reach. In the second paragraph,
he continues to use neutral language and allow the readers to bring their own opinions into the
article. He combines negative and positive language in a single sentence when he describes the
Maine Lobster Festival as less an intersection of [Maine s two main]

identification has come up with great potential. There are different methods to do this. The most
commonly used methods are Universal Product Code UPC and Optical Character Recognition

deficiencies which ultimately lead towards another technique called as Radio Frequency
Identification also termed as RFID. RFID is the most modern technique. RFID tags are readily

Simple Circuitry.
The use of a microphone and speaker coil was the first example of using backscatter radio link to
carry substantial amount of information. This was done in 1948. The passive back scatter
radio technique was used when the radar or reader is very far away from the object to be
identified. But if the object to be identified is very close to the reader i.e. in the range of few
centimeters then there is no need for passive back scatter technique. In this case we used a
technique in which the receiver and the transmitter are inductively coupled. Such systems can
operate at very low frequencies i.e. few kilohertz to few megahertz. These are also called as low
range transmitters and receivers because they operate in a very low range of centimeters.
Talking about the manufacturing of such cheap transponders these can be made by using a
sensitive magnetic strip. When the reader comes close to the strip it vibrates and takes the
necessary information. They were developed in 1960 s wildly used in retail stores and etc. Now
if we want more ID space we have to slightly change the circuitry of the transponder. Such
circuitry can be composed with the help of a capacitor and the inductor which operates at a
resonant frequency. Such a system will provide much larger ID space than the previous ones.
Then inventors thought of a more sophisticated tag in which radio frequency can also be used as a
power source for the tag. Such a tag can be made by

Bull Trout Research Paper
Introduction: The Bull trout (Salvelinus confluentus) in the family Salmonidae and are a char
native to Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Nevada, Montana and western Canada. Compared to other
salmonids, bull trout have more specific habitat requirements that appear to influence their
distribution and abundance (USFWS, 2015). Bull trout were historically regarded as pests due to
their voracious predatory behavior. It was thought that bull trout depleted populations of more
desirable game fish by feeding on them when they were very small thus supposedly depleting the
numbers. In fact at one point there was a bounty placed on bull trout tails in Canada to encourage
fisherman to rid the waters of this Bully, which effectively eliminated them from certain watersheds
(Donald, D. B., and D. J. Alger. 1993). At one time in the early 1900 s the Bull Trout thrived in the
waterways of the Northwest. The Upper Snake Recovery Unit for the Bull trout occurs within

vastly different views on segregation and violence. The first time these two met was at the U.S.
Capitol in 1964 to watch the Senate debate on a Civil Rights bill. Of the two, Martin Luther king
had the better philosophy for America in the 1960 s because of his views on Integration,
economics, and anti violence. One view that King had that was better for the time was his view
on Integration. Let us march on segregated schools until every vestige of segregation and inferior
education becomes a thing of the past and Negros and whites study side by side in the healing
context of the classroom... (Doc. D) Unlike Malcom X, who believed schools should stay
segregated, King believed that schools and students would be best served to be integrated. This
would help correct student s mindsets of each other and bring about more acceptance of each race....

products from companies which refuse to hire Negros in meaningful number and in all job
categories... King s economic policy was just a refusal to work or buy from companies who were
generally racist. Unlike King, Malcom X s economic policy was much harsher. So the economic
policy of black nationalism puts the burden upon the black man of learning how to control his own

Juvenile Justice System In Australia
Australian and international legal systems recognise the differences between juvenile and adult
offenders, and acknowledge the importance of establishing criminal justice systems which are
separate. The United Nations (1985: 2) Standard Minimum Rules for the Administration of Juvenile
Justice (the Bejing Rules ) stress the importance of nations establishing a set of laws, rules and
provisions specifically applicable to juvenile offenders and institutions and bodies entrusted with the
functions of the administration of juvenile justice and designed to meet the varying needs of
juvenile offenders, while protecting their basic rights. It is widely recognised that the purpose of

juvenile was under the influence of alcohol and drug use, and affected by peer pressure. (Cunneen

Love Songs Essay
Every day on the radio, there is bound to be a love song playing somewhere. These types of songs
can seem upbeat and happy, but that is just the music playing behind the lyrics. The music in these
songs are written in a major key which make the song sound lively and cheerful. Even with the
darkest meaning behind the lyrics, the musiccan give off different perspectives. Many people
believe that lovesongs are about love but in reality some of those songs have a depressing story
behind them. Many love songs are not love songs at all if one examines the lyrics.
In fact the song It will rain by Bruno Mars is a clear example of a love song with a complete
different meaning to it than love. The verse if you ever leave me baby leave some ... Show more

One last thing he says is I can t feel my face when I m with you, but I love it. This refers to the
state of being wasted or high. He loves the emotions and feeling he gets when he is doing these
drugs.
Furthermore, another example of a song with a darker meaning would be Little Talks by Of
Monsters and Men. This song is another example of many songs that don t quite refer to love.
For instance this song without paying close attention to the lyrics is a conversation between two
people that love each other. In reality it s an illusion a woman is having with a supposed man as
stated in the verse, I miss our little talks. As the song continues the woman gives of a hint when
the song reads, you re gone, gone, gone away... Just let me go, we ll meet again soon. This verse
foreshadows that the woman is slowly getting lost in mental illness after the death of her partner.
That s why her illusions are fulfilling that empty space that her partner left behind when he died.
Many artists write songs that can be interpreted in many different ways, and the songs stated above
are not an exception to this rule. Taking a closer look at the lyrics and analyzing them can show a
better meaning of what the artist is trying to tell the listener. Many artists try to conceal a hidden
message in their songs to hide their darkest secrets to prevent a bad reputation against them. With

Martin Luther King Jr Qualities
When people think of great leaders there is only one that comes to mind and that is the great
leader Martin Luther King Junior. Martin Luther Jr. was born on January 15, 1929, in Atlanta,
Georgia as Michael King Junior (1). As a child Martin was raised very strictly by his religious
father and kind mother. His father, Michael King Sr., while growing up was very strict in order to
protect his kids from racism and prejudice. Although king s father tried to protect his kids, no
disciplinary action could shield them from the harsh and judging world around them. later on in
Martin Luther King Jr. s life he decided to become a Baptist minister like his father and his father
before him, and therefore king s life of preaching began. What had started... Show more content on

spent in Birmingham jail had solidified him as a leader who never gave up on the cause. One of
the many good qualities of a leader is never giving up no matter how many times you fall. King
showed just that, it was not his first time being incarcerated but his 13th time (4). The civil
rights leader was at a protest in Birmingham, Alabama when he was arrested for having a public
gathering without a permit. When King was arrested he was thrown into solitary confinement
without access to a lawyer or contact with his wife. Shortly after his arrest he had received
letters from local Christians criticizing King. The responses to those people are greatly known
today as Letters from Birmingham Jail . In the response letters he showed great intelligence,
sense of justice, and love towards the people against him. He wrote the response letters without
any resources, since he was in jail, and yet wrote the letters with such elegance. Martin Luther
King Jr. had perfectly quoted great religious philosopher from memory and made an impact to
the nation. The civil rights activist was not just writing a letter to the people who wrote to him
but to the entire country. According to King s Letters from Birmingham Jail he states, So the
question is not whether we will be extremist but what kind of extremist will we be. Will we be
extremists for hate or will we be extremists for love? Will we be extremists for the preservation of

Thief Of Always Character Analysis
Clive Barker s The Thief of Always truly develops the story through Harvey and

together and are on a quest to go home but when a stranger walks up onto Harvey s front porch
he is forced to turn back and defeat Mr. Hood. Harvey unlike Wendell hasn t been at the Holiday

Harvey is easily the bravest person in the holiday house. The first place that Harvey shows his
bravery is when he is transmutes into a vampire. The narrator of the story admits that Harvey is
brave enough to do this prank to Wendell. His cry became a whoop;his terror to joy (46). This
quote explains how Harvey cares about Wendell and didn t want to harm him at first but when
Jive pushed off the roof and into the night sky he was brave. He also has a mischievous side
underneath all the sweet, caring Harvey. Harvey s joy got the best of him and turned into
bravery. Wendell is a coward compared to his best friend Harvey. Wendell truly shows his
cowardness when Harvey transforms himself into a vampire. Wendell cries for mercy and
eventually gets his way. Don t kill me! Please, please, I beg you don t kill me (46)! This quote
truly proves that Wendell is a coward. It also proves he doesn t have the investigation side to this
scene. Harvey knows when something is wrong or something isn t right. And this shows that
Wendell does not have what it takes to be as brave as Harvey. This exemplifies that Wendell is
not the hero but the hero s sidekick who later on, helps Harvey a lot. This is the most important
part of Harvey and Wendell s friendship. They care about each other. Harvey is kind about Wendell
s weaknesses.

London 1802 vs. Douglass FRQ
Throughout the centuries, there have been an infinite amount of literary works written by a sea
of authors that write a variety of genres. All of these works are precious in their own way, and
even if their theme is similar to that of another, the author always ads a bit of his/her own flare in
order to make said literary creation unique in some way. William Wordsworths London 1802 and
Paul Laurence Dunbar s Douglass , although quite similar in form and sentence structure, do add
their own flare through the use of specific details. Through the use of these devices, the speakers
show their disgust for the evil deeds humans do and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dunbar s purpose for making the last sentence about Douglass ability to guide the shivering bark (
Dunbar line 12) is to give the reader a sense of repulsion, like his own repulsion and therefore
encouraging the reader to change. The last sentence in Wordsworth s poem, on the other hand, is
used to praise John Milton. This leaves the reader with the impression that Milton was in fact a
great man, and that we should strive in order to become more like the person. Even though they are
written in different sentences, the fact that this is even mentioned at all suggests that man kind has
become repulsive and although they are expressed in different manners, it is clear that the eventual
goal of these speakers is to make the readers change.
There are specific details used throughout both sonnets that, again, help to reveal the speaker s
ultimate purpose. First, the way the speakers begin both poems is completely different.
Wordsworth commences in a tone of urgency and forcefulness by saying Milton! thou shouldst be
living at this hour: (Wordsworth line 1). This makes the reader excited about reading the rest of
the poem and also, adds interest to the work. Dunbar, however, takes a more meditative approach
by saying Ah, Douglass, we have fall n on evil days. (Dunbar line 1). This, although not as exciting
as the previous example, is also effective in grabbing attention because it leaves the reader
wondering what it is that could be inspiring such deep thought

Violating Its Investment Treaty Obligations
In order to satisfy the necessity requirements, the responding government must demonstrate that
violating its investment treaty obligations is the only way for the State to safeguard an essential
interest against a grave and imminent peril. Moreover, the breach must not seriously impair an
essential interest of the State towards which the obligations exists . In LG E, the tribunal
determined that economic, financial or those interests related to the protection of the State against
any danger seriously compromising its internal or external situation, are also considered essential
interests. The tribunal in Enron, on the other hand, acknowledged the severity of the crisisbut held
that it had not compromised the existence of the State.
The next requirement of necessity as a defence is the only means standard. That is, if other
measures could lead to the same result, even if they would be more difficult or expensive, those
alternative measures should be pursued. In CMS, EDF, Suez and Sempra, the tribunals found that
human rights were relevant but the necessity defence was because it failed the only means
requirement because the government had other options available. This stringent and literal view of
only means would seem to preclude the use of the defence as there is almost always an alternative.
There have been tribunals that have taken a more liberal interpretation of the requirements. The
first time an investment tribunal accepted a necessity as a

Antigone or Creon as the Tragic Hero in Antigone Essay
A tragic hero is a character in a play that is known for being dignified but has a flaw that assists in
his or her downfall. Antigone is a Greek tragic piece written by Sophocles. In the theatrical
production the use of power and morality versus law is evident. The promotion to the conflict was
that Creoncreated a law in which enabled Polynieces, Antigone s brother, to be buried in the
proper way. As it is the way of the gods Antigone found it fit to bury her brother causing her to
disobey the law of Thebes. Both Antigone and Creon, the main characters, could represent a tragic
hero. However Creon is more eligible for being the tragic hero because he fits the definition.

Creon orders the guards to take Antigone away not caring for his son s feelings, since she is his
fiancГ©e. Creon feels the law should stand despite the fact that Antigone was his niece or how
moral her act was. Bring her [Antigone] out! Let her die before his eyes... (Scene 3, 130). This
quotes shows that Creon took his position as king seriously to the point where in he was willing
to sacrifice the feelings of his own son. He was willing to be the cause of son s destruction just
to prove that he is the king and always right. I will go... I buried her, I will set her free (scene 5,
102,104). Not only does this quote show leadership but also stubbornness he was risking his
relationship with his son to prove that he was the leader of Thebes. Creon says another quote
which shows his loyalty to his kingdom, I call to God to witness that if I saw my country headed
for ruin, I should not be afraid to speak out plainly, (Sophocles, scene 1,24 26). It shows his strong
sense of leadership which catches up with him in the end causing destruction.
Tragic heroes have identifiable flaws which cause their destruction. In this situation Creon s major
flaw was that he was self centered, and never listened he thought he was always right. Haemon
points out that Creon needs to stop being narrow minded and stubborn, ...Not far off when you
shall pay back corpse for corpse... (Scene 5, 72 73). Teiresias the fortune teller warns Creon that his

Peter And Peter In The Gospels Of Matthew And Mark
Peter, one of the most important disciples in the Gospels of Matthew and Mark, is portrayed as
Jesus acquaintance and pupil; as well as one of Jesus most important followers. Both of the
Gospels seem to portray Peter in similar ways, yet they draw different images of the disciple. In
the Gospel of Matthew, Peter has a much larger appearance in the teachings of Jesusand becomes
more significant to Jesus throughout the Christian doctrine. However, in Mark, the author portrays
Peter as a much lesser character in the life of Jesus and even leaves Peter out of some of the stories
till the end of the book. Each Gospelportrays a slightly different picture of Peter s personality and
role.
Peter is introduced as one of the first followers of Jesus in both Matthew 4:18 and Mark 1:16.
Both passages seem to describe Jesus discussion verbatim. Peter, also known as Simon, was with
his brother and spoke with Jesus. Jesus simply told them, Follow me and I will make you fish for
the people (Matthew 4.19, Mark 1.17). Peter and his brother merely replied, And immediately they
left their nets and followed him (4.20, 1.18). Peter and his brother were fishermen, which could
cause them to either be prosperous or not. This passage portrays Peter and his brother as extremely

People worried about the potato crop. At first, the potatos seemed fine, but after further
examination the potatos were rotten. In October of 1845, Britain s Prime Minister, Sir Robert
Peel, established a scientific commission to discover over half of Irelands potatos had been ruined
by wet rot. The potato crop failed time and time again. Irish people began to lose hope in receiving
better living conditions, but the shipping lanes opened to America after they had been closed by the
war (Philip). Irish began to think of the American dream and promise.
The American dream and promise changes a nations state of mind. It originally comes from the
Declaration of Independence. The promise is all men are created equal, that they are endowed by
their Creator with certain unalienable Rights. The dream: Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of
happiness. All of which were things the Irish desired (Pendry).
According to Philips, between 1815 and 1816, around 20,000 Irish traveled to the Americas.
These emigrants were mostly professionals and shopkeepers, because farmers couldn t afford
travel. Over the next two decades shipping fees continued to have outrageous prices, but between
1823 and 1825 more people, such as the merchants and farmers, were able to travel because free
passage and land grants were allowed to Catholics. The largest emigration was in 1827 when
nearly 400,000 Irish traveled to the Americas on Coffin Ships; overcrowded ships filled

Anemia Decreases the Number of Red Blood Cells Essay
Anemia is a blood condition with decreasing number of red blood cells (RBC) or less than normal
levels of hemoglobin (an essential protein that carries oxygen to your tissues and organs) in the
blood. Anemia usually occurs when individual does not have enough red blood cells the cells that
transport hemoglobin(Hb) throughout your body. [4]
Iron deficiency anemia is a common form of anemia that occurs if person does not have sufficient
iron in body. Without enough iron your body starts using the iron it has stored. Soon, the stored
iron gets used. After the stored iron is used, your body makes fewer red blood cells. The red blood
cells it does make have less hemoglobin than normal. [4]

Anemia is a common comorbidity in HF is associated with increased disease severity and also
contributes to a worse outcome. The mechanism through which anemia contributes to negative
outcome in chronic HF patients is multifactorial and complex. Important factors include, bone
marrow resistance to erythropoietin, renal failure, chronic inflammation, medication use and
hematinic deficiencies, in particular iron deficiency (ID). Generally, the presence of ID is only
considered clinically relevant in the presence of anemia. However, a decreased hemoglobin
levels can be viewed as the end result of a process beginning with gradual depletion of iron stores.
Even if patients are not anemic, ID already may be common in chronic HF, with or without
anemia, is associated with decreased aerobic performance and exercise intolerance, recently also
shown in chronic HF. [5]
Anemia is an independent factor in mortality in people with chronic heart failure. Anemia, or a
low level of hemoglobin in the blood, is much linked to heart disease because the heart has to
work harder to pump more blood and oxygen through the body [4]. Iron deficiency in heart failure
can be due to a number of factors, it may be caused by a lack of nutrients in a person s diet or by
the body s inability to absorb nutrients from food. Heart failure can also cause a back up of fluid
(edema). This edema produces a higher volume of blood plasma (the liquid part of blood), which

Scout Reflection
On Saturday, the 28th of October, I presented Earth Rocks to Cub Scouts who were earning their
Merit Badge. As I now reflect on the two sessions I taught that day, I wonder if I could have ever
been truly prepared for them. I believed I had everything lined out and timed to take us right up
to the time their session was over. However, that was not the case because the scouts knew a
considerable amount more about the subject than I realized. I feel honored to have been able to
work with such intelligent groups of scouts. During the first session, I quickly realized that these
Cub Scouts knew an impressive amount about the information I was presenting, so I forced
myself to change how I was presenting the material. I engaged the scouts into the material by
asking each one tons of questions about what they already knew. Then I made sure they stayed
busy with hands on activities that really engrossed them into the material. I believe that when I
had to change my lesson plans on the spot, I did decently well. I was able to bettergrab the scouts
attention and help them learn more information than before they walked into the session. One of
the most challenging ideas I tried to teach to the scouts would have to be about geographical
surroundings and the geographical materials that make up the buildings. I feel as if I did not know
enough about the subject matter, or how to present it correctly in a way that was truly benefiting
the scouts. However, the scout leaders were

Althusser And Critique Of Marxism Essay
Althusser and Critique Paper
Marxist philosopher Louis Althusser reoriented the study of Marxism in the 1960s and 1970s,
shifting it from a humanist interpretation to one structured around the philosophy of ideology and
the philosophy of science. The purpose of this reorientation revolved around the necessity to
ground an understanding of critique. By focusing on the notions of ideology and science,
Althusser can provide an accurate explanation for the revolutionary nature of Marx s thought,
specifically the creation of the science, dialectical materialism. This science, according to
Althusser, shows that the production of thought is historically determined and provides the basis
for all critique: as being able to discern mere ideas and historically determined ideologies from
true scientific knowledge. By understanding what is truly science and ideology, the proletariat can
correctly work to rectify the practices that impose a false ideology and work for a politics that is
not based on exploitation.
To understand Althusser s elucidation of Marx s Philosophy, and by extension his work on critique,
one has to specifically focus on the theory of Marxism as a science, or the unification of two
sciences, historical materialism and dialectic materialism. It is within the science of historical
materialism, or the science of history determined by modes of production, that one could
understand how ideologies are introduced and constantly reinforced. Modes of production, or the

Windshield Survey
The Windshield Survey gathered information to better see the bigger picture of the community.
There are many older detached single family homes with front and back yards. There is also a
mix of old apartments, as well as brand new apartments. There are lots of open spaces due to the
number of cemeteries in Colma. Some have lush green fields with trees and planted flowers,
while one has a lake with ducks. Most common place for the residents to hang out at is the
shopping mall, Serramonte. Senior citizens meet there early morning, while a Tai Chi class is
offered. The community travels around in cars or public transportation, such as SamTrans bus or
BART train. BART trains are available from 4:20 am to 1:24 am, trains arrive and depart every 15
minutes.
There are two recreation centers, Colma Community Center and Sterling Park Recreation Center.
Doctors and dentists offices are also located within the community. There are 2 outdoor shopping
centers within 1 mile of each other. There are also numerous car dealerships along the street next
to one of the shopping centers. During the day, families of all ages and all races are out in the
community. There are a lot of crows that fly around and stray cats.
Financially, the community is on an upward slope. There are no signs of abandonment and the
roads are paved. The residents are primarily Hispanic, Asian, and Caucasian. There are

A Brief Note On The Kingdom Of Bhutan
The Kingdom of Bhutan is a small country with a total area of 38, 394 square kilometres and a
population of approximately 745, 000 (Royal Government of Bhutan, 2015). Agriculture is one of
the main ways of life for the population of Bhutan, as approximately 56% of the total population
is engaged in agriculture and forestry (Royal Government of Bhutan, 2015). Even though a large
portion of the population relies on agriculture, only 12 percent of Bhutan s total land area consists
of farmlands and grazing areas because of Bhutan s diverse regions (Zurick, 2006). The majority of
the land available for agriculture is limited due to steep topography and high altitude (Gurung
Seeland, 2011). The rugged mountainous terrain has elevations ranging from 160 7000 metres
(Royal Government of Bhutan, 2015). While agriculture is the primary source of income for the
population of Bhutan, a major source of revenue for the government is the export of electricity from
hydropower projects (Royal Government of Bhutan, 2015). While Bhutan is a small developing
country, this has not hindered our ambitions in climate action. Bhutan is the sole country in the
world that measures Gross National Happiness rather than Gross Domestic Product. GNH generates
a more holistic approach to development by balancing economic growth with social development,
cultural preservation, and environmental sustainability (Tobgay, 2016). However more recently,
Bhutan has been making a name for itself due to it s pledge

Reza Shah s Abolition Of The Pahlavi Dynasty In Iran
At the turn of 1925, Reza Shah began the Pahlavi dynasty in Iran. He is mostly known for his
attempts in modernizing Iran on the basis of the West. With this in mind, Reza Shah showed some
of the biggest reform movements throughout Iranian society. One reform, such as greater access to
higher education for women at Tehran University, show significant gains compared to previous
years in Iran. One of the biggest points of controversy in the course of Reza Shahs rule was the
abolition of the chador and the enforcement of unveiling. The chador is a traditional staple of
women s clothing in Iranian culture that only shows the face from the brow line, and drapes over
the body from head to toe like a veil. Under the circumstances, unveiling did not

Reaction Time Lab
In this lab, the team concluded that being distracted with an activity that diverts optical attention
away from the focal point, such as texting, significantly increases reaction time. The other
distractors, including listening to music and talking on a cell phone, had effectively no impact on
reaction time in comparison to having no distraction.
In order convert the distance the meter stick fell into the given unit of time (seconds or hours), the
time equation shown in the sample calculation was used. This equation directly found the reaction
time in seconds, which allowed the team to calculate the reaction time in hours. Dimensional
analysis was used to convert seconds to hours, which resulted in extraordinarily small quantities that
warranted the use of scientific notation.
From there, the team had to determine in each case how far a car traveling at 60 miles per hour
would travel before brakes would be applied. To do this, the team used the equation v=d/t to find
distance, and thus rewriting it as d=vt. This equation determined the distance in miles, prompting
the team to again use dimensional analysis to find the distance in feet.
The data that was tested without ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reaction time was constant while listening to music, and was actually .01s shorter while talking
on a cell phone. Texting, however, left both partners completely incapable of catching the meter
stick at all, which only begins to demonstrate the danger of texting while driving. In a real world
situation, you would travel a whopping 38.01ft before applying the breaks (at 60mph), which is
much longer than the 12.03ft you would travel without distraction. Using that data, it was
concluded that the only distractor that had a substantial effect on reaction time was

The Genre Of Horror Films
First of all, genre is the method categorized a film based on similarities in the narrative elements.
There are a wide range of different types of film genres: detective, action, adventure, gangster or
crime, science fiction, drama, horror, romance, comedy, musical and so on. It is quite difficult to
identify a particular filmbecause a film might have a few of different genres. That is the reason
why sub genres exist. Sub genres can help us to more clarity in identify the genreof a film. For
example, a horror filmmight involve supernatural.thriller, mystery or others. Horror is a classical
genre that has now become far more popular with audiences than perhaps at any other time in its
history. This genre has been around since 1890s and it is one of the oldest genres from
Hollywood. The iconic theme across horror films is usually revolved around mirror, superhuman
killer, curse and so on. The ending will always like return to normalcy and victory over the
monstrous. I believe that this is the ending which most audiences wish to be. There are a few of
sub genres in horror films which are slasher flicks, supernatural and psychological and they are
widely adapted in hybrid films nowadays. Slasher flicks as known as massacre is a type of
horror film that usually involves murders killing the victims in a violent manner and usually with
a tool like knife, axe or others. For examples are serial killer and mass murder. For psychological

Marxist Theory And Psychoanalytic Theories
Marxist and Psychoanalytic Literary Theories in Action Marxist/Materialist Theory and
Psychoanalytic Theory are important theories in understanding individuals and societies. They
allow readers to understand how societies and individuals function and their motives. Marxist
/Materialist Theory mostly focuses on societies and different classes and the relationships between
the two. Psychoanalytic Theory focuses on the characters wants, needs, actions, and process of
thought that sometimes correlate with the author. While both have their flaws, they allow readers
to explore the deeper meanings in a text as well as connect the readers to their personal lives and
societies and fully gain greater understanding and knowledge. Marxist theory... Show more content

Lastly, Marxist theory would be beneficial to western/ historical novels that show the disputes
between people who are different socially which is what Marxist theory is meant to

because they explore the emotions. Freud would also agree that Psychoanalytic theory is helpful in
explicating romance novels because Freud main foundation for Psychoanalytic theory is on sex.
Psychoanalytic theory is useful in dystopian novels as well and almost any genre when a reader or
theorist uses it to understand the characters minds and motives when they, [apply] psychoanalytic
techniques to texts to uncover the author s hidden motivations repressed desires, and wishes
(Bressler 130). Beyond Marxist elements in Anthem, Anthem also demonstrates Psychoanalysisand

but the character Equality 7 2521 uses we instead of I . The reader later learns that he never uses
I because it was a forbidden word in the society and he didn t even know what it meant until he
eventually leaves the society at the end of the novel. Equality 7 2521 and the other characters

Suicide Forest Analysis
Although entertaining, there is a lack of horror sensation. Natalie Dormer plays worried sister,
Sara, searching for her twin in the deep Aokigahara Forest. The suicide forest as many refer to it

Aokigahara forest on a school field trip only to wind up lost and stranded. As Sarah searches day
and night, she comes across many frightening but over dramatic obstacles. Which include,
abandoned cabins, ghosts, voices, and holes in the ground. All of which are very notable in every

  • 2. Theme Of Seize The Day By Saul Bellow Bellow is considered as one of the most celebrated authors of the 20th century and American literature s most resourceful writer for all times. He has come to his prominence slowly through a careful building up of a body of work, a composition displaying greater insight, range of power, with each new novel. Since his appearance on the literary scene in the midforties, Saul Bellow, recipient of the 1976 Nobel Prize for literature, has left his mark on the international literary world. He is one the few contemporary authors who has been able to sustain the interest and dominate the field of academic and scholarly inquiry for over four decades. His fiction typically addresses the meaning of human existence in an increasingly aloof and world of mechanism. Writing in a humorous, subjective style, Bellow often depicts introspective individuals sorting out a conflict between the old worldand the new worldvalues while coping with personal anxieties and objectives. Saul bellow has been a most persistent chronicler of America s restless search for Alienation or sense of partition is one of the leading themes in Bellow s novel Seize the Day. Tommy is fighting a lonely battle against the encroaching selfishness, heartlessness, and cynicism of the modern materialized world. He rejects the loveless world and the existence of the voracious in human nature. Hence Saul Bellow exposes one of the major theme: the destruction of human by his humane ideals. • 3. Heroes Of The Enlightenment Analysis In the video Heroes of the Enlightenment by Humanist Society of Australia Inc, the author explains how during the seventeenth and eighteenth century European philosophy, science and politics were reoriented as part of a movement known as the Age of Enlightenment. The objective of the Enlightenment was to inform the public, aiming to persuade others about the main hero s ideas within that era. As well as, how they shaped the world that we live in today. The first hero of the enlightenment was Isaac Newton who was an innovator of modern science, and he founded the theory of gravity. He believed knowledge was not only written in the bible but also about observing what happens in our surroundings. Newton conceived gravity by watching an apple that was falling from a tree. Where other people would see just an apple falling, Newton had seen universal forces that were in action. Newton believed that God set up the universe in its eternal state. How Did Pope John Paul II Impact The World Pope John Paul II created religious ideas, used (Habit of mind) to innovate (ways to overcome challenge write challenge), and illuminated the world by spreading the Good News of the Bible in an exciting, different way. Pope John Paul II created amazing things, but not in a way you would expect. He created ideas. Instead of doing things the way everyone else did, he made people think. At an early age, John Paul was exposed to wonderful outgoing people that inspired him, like Jan Tryanowski. (http:/ /www.catholic.org) They shaped his exciting yet inspiring personality. Since he was from Poland, he cared about ideas that were advertised there. Pope John Paul was one of the reasons communism was put to a stop in Poland. Fighting for the homeland means fighting for freedom, but how can men defend their country against enemies if they lack of the ability to fight? Conscription is strategy that utilized by nations to assemble a large and powerful military, prepared to be deployed in times of war or when the need to ensure the power of the state emerges. Mostly, conscriptionis for male and in some cases and some countries have also for women, and usually begins as soon as the end of the study; at the age, 18 years old. Most people maintain that serving the community should be voluntary, and each individual has the absolute freedom to join or not to join the military service. However, it is argued that military service builds individual personality and improves his skills in combat and defense, so there is no rational reason not to make conscription mandatory. A person s character changed for the better during his service in the military. To begin with, mandatory service teaches the person self discipline. Michael Anthony, an author who served in US army, writes in his article, What the Military Teaches About Self Discipline, that discipline must be ground into conscript. He needs to gain physical strength, perseverance, knowledge, and courage, n.d. The second consideration is that the most powerful region, in this case, western Europe, should not be the only one talked about because ideas and practices that are now or were at that time integrated into their culture were not necessarily developed by them, but by other culture that imported their beliefs into European culture. This led to a greater population density which ultimately started civilizations. 8.One factor that contributed to the transition from hunting gathering to farming was the decline in the availability of wild foods to gather. A second factor was an increased availability of wild plants. A third factor was the development of technologies that food production would later depend upon. A fourth factor was the link between the rise in population density and the rise in food production. A fifth factor was food producers could force hunter gatherers to leave or kill them off because of the great numbers they had. 9.One advantage the Fertile Crescent had in food production was that it had a Mediterranean climate that was mild and wet in the winter and hot and dry in the long summers. This allows plants to grow quickly after the dry season when the rain comes back. A second advantage was many plants there were already very abundant and very productive. A third advantage was that it had a lot of hermaphrodite plants that would almost always pollinate themselves and occasionally cross pollinate which allowed a little more variety. Francis choice the live in poverty originates from a sermon he heard in 1209 on Mathew 10:9, which states, Do not take gold or silver or copper for your belts, (New American Bible). Verses 5 15 of Mathew is the commissioning of the twelve disciples in which Jesus tells them to go, without money or shoes, to preach about His coming (Catholic Encyclopedia). • 8. Essay On The Francine Odyssey Quirky, upbeat music plays as Sam and Suzy continue their adventure by preparing dinner, watching deer, and hiking through the rain. The map shows their journey on a dotted line to illustrate the length of it and their arrival. At their newly formed campsite, they catch fish for dinner and decide to take inventory. While Sam brought everything they seem to need for outdoor survival, Suzy brought (her brother s) record player, kitten food, records, books, lefty scissors, rubber bands, batteries, toothbrush, and binoculars. Of course Sam s concern is other whether she stole the books from the library. They discuss why she would do that coming down to the fact that her parents have a book called Coping with a Very Troubled Child. At this Sam laughs despite himself, which upsets Suzy causing her to storm off to the tent and zip it up. Sam, after processing for a few dumbfounded seconds, goes after her to tent. Suzy ends up reading her favorite book to Sam called The Francine Odyssey, a reference to Homer s Odyssey, a story about a man s long journey back home. David Foster Wallace’s essay Consider the Lobster Consider the Audience The gluttonous lords of the land capture those who are unable to defend themselves, boil the captives alive, and then feast on their flesh. Could this be the plot of some new summer blockbuster? It could be, in fact, but for now we will focus on how this depiction of events compares to David Foster Wallaces essay, Consider the Lobster, which starts as a review of the Maine Lobster Festival, but soon morphs into an indictment of not only the conventions of lobster preparation, but also the entire idea of having an animal killed for one s own consumption. Wallace shows great skill in establishing ethos. In the essay, he succeeds in snaring a receptive audience by laying out a well baited trap for an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unfortunately, the words themselves are not a perfect fit for the duality of the readership. For our purposes, we will say that most of the Gourmet readers are probably in the optimist crowd, but they are also the omnivores typical of the Standard American Diet: they will eat anything so long as it is expertly prepared and tasty. The pessimists are the segment of Wallace s readership who are actually most receptive to his arguments. The reasons behind any particular reader s membership in this group are numerous: the reader may be a vegetarian, or opposed to the typical method of lobster preparation, or may just be opposed to commercial fishing and/or commercialized food festivals. The specific reasons are not important; what is important is that Wallace does not have to fight to keep this audience: he just has to keep from alienating them. It is the optimists for whom he must fight. Wallace must tread a careful path in the opening four pages of his article. In this stage, if his language is too negative, he will lose the optimist majority, but if he caters to that portion of his audience too heavily, he will lose those whom he is most likely to reach. In the second paragraph, he continues to use neutral language and allow the readers to bring their own opinions into the article. The use of a microphone and speaker coil was the first example of using backscatter radio link to carry substantial amount of information. This was done in 1948. The passive back scatter radio technique was used when the radar or reader is very far away from the object to be identified. But if the object to be identified is very close to the reader i.e. in the range of few centimeters then there is no need for passive back scatter technique. In this case we used a technique in which the receiver and the transmitter are inductively coupled. Such systems can operate at very low frequencies i.e. few kilohertz to few megahertz. These are also called as low range transmitters and receivers because they operate in a very low range of centimeters. Talking about the manufacturing of such cheap transponders these can be made by using a sensitive magnetic strip. When the reader comes close to the strip it vibrates and takes the necessary information. They were developed in 1960 s wildly used in retail stores and etc. Now if we want more ID space we have to slightly change the circuitry of the transponder. Such circuitry can be composed with the help of a capacitor and the inductor which operates at a resonant frequency. Such a system will provide much larger ID space than the previous ones. Then inventors thought of a more sophisticated tag in which radio frequency can also be used as a power source for the tag. Such a tag can be made by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Bull Trout Research Paper Introduction: The Bull trout (Salvelinus confluentus) in the family Salmonidae and are a char native to Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Nevada, Montana and western Canada. Compared to other salmonids, bull trout have more specific habitat requirements that appear to influence their distribution and abundance (USFWS, 2015). Bull trout were historically regarded as pests due to their voracious predatory behavior. It was thought that bull trout depleted populations of more desirable game fish by feeding on them when they were very small thus supposedly depleting the numbers. In fact at one point there was a bounty placed on bull trout tails in Canada to encourage fisherman to rid the waters of this Bully, which effectively eliminated them from certain watersheds (Donald, D. B., and D. J. Alger. 1993). At one time in the early 1900 s the Bull Trout thrived in the waterways of the Northwest. The music in these songs are written in a major key which make the song sound lively and cheerful. Even with the darkest meaning behind the lyrics, the musiccan give off different perspectives. Many people believe that lovesongs are about love but in reality some of those songs have a depressing story behind them. Many love songs are not love songs at all if one examines the lyrics. This song is another example of many songs that don t quite refer to love. For instance this song without paying close attention to the lyrics is a conversation between two people that love each other. In reality it s an illusion a woman is having with a supposed man as stated in the verse, I miss our little talks. As the song continues the woman gives of a hint when the song reads, you re gone, gone, gone away... Just let me go, we ll meet again soon. This verse foreshadows that the woman is slowly getting lost in mental illness after the death of her partner. That s why her illusions are fulfilling that empty space that her partner left behind when he died. Many artists write songs that can be interpreted in many different ways, and the songs stated above are not an exception to this rule. The civil rights leader was at a protest in Birmingham, Alabama when he was arrested for having a public gathering without a permit. London 1802 vs Douglass Essay Monique Morua Mrs. Allen AP English Lit and Comp, 2 26 October 2012 London 1802 vs. Douglass FRQ Throughout the centuries, there have been an infinite amount of literary works written by a sea of authors that write a variety of genres. All of these works are precious in their own way, and even if their theme is similar to that of another, the author always ads a bit of his/her own flare in order to make said literary creation unique in some way. Dunbar s purpose for making the last sentence about Douglass ability to guide the shivering bark ( Dunbar line 12) is to give the reader a sense of repulsion, like his own repulsion and therefore encouraging the reader to change. The last sentence in Wordsworth s poem, on the other hand, is used to praise John Milton. This leaves the reader with the impression that Milton was in fact a great man, and that we should strive in order to become more like the person. Even though they are written in different sentences, the fact that this is even mentioned at all suggests that man kind has become repulsive and although they are expressed in different manners, it is clear that the eventual goal of these speakers is to make the readers change. There are specific details used throughout both sonnets that, again, help to reveal the speaker s ultimate purpose. First, the way the speakers begin both poems is completely different. Wordsworth commences in a tone of urgency and forcefulness by saying Milton! thou shouldst be living at this hour: (Wordsworth line 1). This makes the reader excited about reading the rest of the poem and also, adds interest to the work. Dunbar, however, takes a more meditative approach by saying Ah, Douglass, we have fall n on evil days. (Dunbar line 1). This, although not as exciting as the previous example, is also effective in grabbing attention because it leaves the reader wondering what it is that could be inspiring such deep thought ... Moreover, the breach must not seriously impair an essential interest of the State towards which the obligations exists . In LG E, the tribunal determined that economic, financial or those interests related to the protection of the State against any danger seriously compromising its internal or external situation, are also considered essential interests. The tribunal in Enron, on the other hand, acknowledged the severity of the crisisbut held that it had not compromised the existence of the State. The next requirement of necessity as a defence is the only means standard. That is, if other measures could lead to the same result, even if they would be more difficult or expensive, those alternative measures should be pursued. In CMS, EDF, Suez and Sempra, the tribunals found that human rights were relevant but the necessity defence was because it failed the only means requirement because the government had other options available. This stringent and literal view of only means would seem to preclude the use of the defence as there is almost always an alternative. He was willing to be the cause of son s destruction just to prove that he is the king and always right. I will go... I buried her, I will set her free (scene 5, 102,104). It shows his strong sense of leadership which catches up with him in the end causing destruction. Tragic heroes have identifiable flaws which cause their destruction. In this situation Creon s major flaw was that he was self centered, and never listened he thought he was always right. • 40. Scout Reflection On Saturday, the 28th of October, I presented Earth Rocks to Cub Scouts who were earning their Merit Badge. As I now reflect on the two sessions I taught that day, I wonder if I could have ever been truly prepared for them. I believed I had everything lined out and timed to take us right up to the time their session was over. However, that was not the case because the scouts knew a considerable amount more about the subject than I realized. I feel honored to have been able to work with such intelligent groups of scouts. During the first session, I quickly realized that these Cub Scouts knew an impressive amount about the information I was presenting, so I forced myself to change how I was presenting the material. I engaged the scouts into the material by asking each one tons of questions about what they already knew. Then I made sure they stayed busy with hands on activities that really engrossed them into the material. I believe that when I had to change my lesson plans on the spot, I did decently well. I was able to bettergrab the scouts attention and help them learn more information than before they walked into the session. One of the most challenging ideas I tried to teach to the scouts would have to be about geographical surroundings and the geographical materials that make up the buildings. I feel as if I did not know enough about the subject matter, or how to present it correctly in a way that was truly benefiting the scouts. However, the scout leaders were ... • 41. Althusser And Critique Of Marxism Essay Althusser and Critique Paper Marxist philosopher Louis Althusser reoriented the study of Marxism in the 1960s and 1970s, shifting it from a humanist interpretation to one structured around the philosophy of ideology and the philosophy of science. The purpose of this reorientation revolved around the necessity to ground an understanding of critique. By focusing on the notions of ideology and science, Althusser can provide an accurate explanation for the revolutionary nature of Marx s thought, specifically the creation of the science, dialectical materialism. This science, according to Althusser, shows that the production of thought is historically determined and provides the basis for all critique: as being able to discern mere ideas and historically determined ideologies from true scientific knowledge. By understanding what is truly science and ideology, the proletariat can correctly work to rectify the practices that impose a false ideology and work for a politics that is not based on exploitation. To understand Althusser s elucidation of Marx s Philosophy, and by extension his work on critique, one has to specifically focus on the theory of Marxism as a science, or the unification of two sciences, historical materialism and dialectic materialism. It is within the science of historical materialism, or the science of history determined by modes of production, that one could understand how ideologies are introduced and constantly reinforced. Modes of production, or the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. A Brief Note On The Kingdom Of Bhutan The Kingdom of Bhutan is a small country with a total area of 38, 394 square kilometres and a population of approximately 745, 000 (Royal Government of Bhutan, 2015). Agriculture is one of the main ways of life for the population of Bhutan, as approximately 56% of the total population is engaged in agriculture and forestry (Royal Government of Bhutan, 2015). Even though a large portion of the population relies on agriculture, only 12 percent of Bhutan s total land area consists of farmlands and grazing areas because of Bhutan s diverse regions (Zurick, 2006). The majority of the land available for agriculture is limited due to steep topography and high altitude (Gurung Seeland, 2011). The rugged mountainous terrain has elevations ranging from 160 7000 metres (Royal Government of Bhutan, 2015). While agriculture is the primary source of income for the population of Bhutan, a major source of revenue for the government is the export of electricity from hydropower projects (Royal Government of Bhutan, 2015). While Bhutan is a small developing country, this has not hindered our ambitions in climate action. Bhutan is the sole country in the world that measures Gross National Happiness rather than Gross Domestic Product. GNH generates a more holistic approach to development by balancing economic growth with social development, cultural preservation, and environmental sustainability (Tobgay, 2016). • 45. Reaction Time Lab In this lab, the team concluded that being distracted with an activity that diverts optical attention away from the focal point, such as texting, significantly increases reaction time. The other distractors, including listening to music and talking on a cell phone, had effectively no impact on reaction time in comparison to having no distraction. In order convert the distance the meter stick fell into the given unit of time (seconds or hours), the time equation shown in the sample calculation was used. This equation directly found the reaction time in seconds, which allowed the team to calculate the reaction time in hours. Dimensional analysis was used to convert seconds to hours, which resulted in extraordinarily small quantities that warranted the use of scientific notation. From there, the team had to determine in each case how far a car traveling at 60 miles per hour would travel before brakes would be applied. To do this, the team used the equation v=d/t to find distance, and thus rewriting it as d=vt. This equation determined the distance in miles, prompting the team to again use dimensional analysis to find the distance in feet. The data that was tested without ...
