Zora Neale Hurston Sweat Summary
Brenda Cozar
Professor Galindo
English 1302 NC8
4 December 2014
A Hard Working Woman
Zora Naele Hurston published Sweat in the 1920 s, a piece of literature which narrates the story
of a hard working woman by the name of Delia Jones and her struggles to overcome the
oppression of her abusive husband. As the piece of literature advances, readers can interpret
various symbols incorporated into the writing. Three of the major themes found in this story are
domestic abuse, empowerment, and survival and these are interlinked by symbols such as the pile
of white clothes, her sweat, and the Chinaberry tree. The symbols in the story and the theme
together make the story more powerful and amazing for the readers. In addition, Delia Jones
character is a dynamic character that rises from the ashes from being this character that tolerates
Sykes abuse into liberated soul who no longer lives in fear.
According to Chapter 9: Zora Neale Hurston by Paul P. Reuben, Zora Neale... Show more content

As how Barbara Ryan mentions, This introduction prepares us to think anew about fiction in which
a wash woman is heavily burdened not only by her job, but also by a wastrel husband (Invisible
Men: Hurston...). This slowly starts to come to an end when Delia is tired of Sykes always
stepping all over her. She is tired to always being looked as someone useless. Delia tries to stand
up for herself and show Sykes that she is not going to be putting up with his physical and
emotional abuse anymore. In this era of time it is the way of life that a woman had to be marry
because woman were not viewed as someone who could sustain a life on their own. But Delia
knew that was not the case in her marriage. She had been through enough and she is the one that is
supporting her husband instead of it being the other way

Analysis Of Sherman Alexie s Novel The Absolutely True...
Many people don t realize the value something till it s gone. It may be the advice someone gave
you or it may be someone you love. Arnold experiences this throughout the novel The Absolutely
True Diary of a Part Time Indian by Sherman Alexie. While reading this novel the reader realized
that Arnold understood that being poor and living on the reservation wouldn t be easy for him if
he wanted to fulfill his dreams. The character decided to go to Reardan and study while he leaves
his best friend behind. He faces some problems at the beginning but most of the problem gets
solved near the end. Arnold also called Junior hears news of his grandmother s death, he loved his
grandmother a lot and he couldn t help but think why she died because she passed away because
a car hit her not because of old age. A couple of days later Eugene, Juniors dad s friend passed
away he was really close to junior which made him sad. Most of the people on the reservation
died because they were drunk. Everything was going fine for a couple of days when suddenly
Junior gets the news that his sister passed away he felt like everything around him was negative
and that he was going to be next. On the day of his basketball game, he thought of Eugene and
what he would always say while he Junior was playing that gave him the playing spirit and
encouraged him this is when he regained hope. By discussing how hard it can be to lose hope,
regaining that hope and the changes in Arnold s perspective, the author

The Follower By Alistair Macleod
Familial ties, tradition and upbringing shape an individuals identity and sense of security. This
idea is expressed in The Follower by Seamus Heaney as well as in two short stories from Alistair
Macleod s The Island ; The Boat and Golden Gift of Grey. . The texts illustrate the importance in
establishing and maintaining connections of paternal nature. They divulge in the idea that
incompatibility with one s home can affect the viewing of their place in the world, and indicate
that qualities such as physical and intellectual skill can factor into a sense of belonging and place.
Paternal connections are a focal issue addressed in all the texts, and are shown to have the ability
to shape a child s identity. The Boat by Alistair Macleod

Task 1
Frost, GKE1 Task 1 Page 1
GKE Task 1 Part A:
Over the centuries there have been many different environmental and geographical factors that have
shaped the development of the United States. Two of these factors that I feel are extremely
significant to this development are the Irish Potato Famine and the discovery of gold in California.
The Irish Potato Famine began in Ireland in September 1845. The famine was caused by an
airborne fungus, phytophthora infetans, which attacks the leaves of the plant, turning them black,
causing them to curl and rot, ultimately killing the plant. The rotting plant makes the perfect
environment for the fungus to multiply. The wind then carries the fungus spores to more healthy
plants. (Irish Potato Famine, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The cultural trade was also a two way street. The Egyptians started representing themselves
artistically and fashionably as the Romans did with a more Greco Roman style (Heilbrunn
Timeline of Art History, 2000). Both civilizations came to be known as some of the most
prosperous and successful civilizations of the ancient world.

Difference Between Order Measurement And Interval Level Of...
Interval level of measure classifies and order measurement, but also determine the distance
between each interval on a scale that labels low to the high interval. An example is an emergency
room nurse may ask her patient to tell her on a scale 1 10, which number would represent the pain
they are encountering. Also, a temperature can be used as an interval level of measure in
determining the distance between 94 and 96 Celsius degree is the same distance as the temperature
of 100 Celsius to 102 Celsius(Statistic Solution, 2016). Therefore, due to it, characteristic this level
of data has an equal value for the second in time when using interval measurement. However, the
different from ratio level of measure is that interval does not have a true

Air Pollution In Bakersfield California
Bakersfield California is a fun place for people to go on vacation. There is Beach Park, located
near the city that has playing fields, bike paths, skate parks, and barbeque pits. There are lakes to
go water skiing and boating, also Kern River County Park that has 50 campsites for a family to
bring their children to enjoy a nice outdoor vacation. Restaurants, that force you to try new things
and have the experience of eating in an older restaurant building. However, what most people don t
know is that Bakersfield, California is the most polluted places in the United States. In this paper, I
will go over the pollution problems, geographic factors, climate conditions, and social activities that
contribute to the buildup of air pollutionin Bakersfield, California.
Bakersfield California, located near the Southern end of San Joaquin Valley in Southern California,
approximately 35В° 22 23 N / 119В° 1 4 W. It has a population of 347,483 people (Spicer, 2017).
Bakersfield is the country seat of Kern County, which is one of the largest companies in the
United States that produces oil. It is known around the world for its amazing, rich agriculture in
produce, it is known as the Food Basket of the World (Spicer, 2017). Bakersfield does not have a
very wide variety of climate, for the entire year it only gets on average 7 inches of rain and 0 inches

Theme Of In Cuba By Ana Menendez
The way in which an exile attempts to figure out and achieve familiarity a new country is the
way that cultural encounter is treated in Ana Menendez short story in Cuba I was a German
shepherd. The main character, as we will show below in the following paragraphs, employs his
previous knowledge and applies it to the new, unknown country he arrives at for the purposes of
finding a place for himself. Reading the story shows clearly that the author was aware of the theme
of cultural encounters as we will illustrate below. The jokes are employed successfully by the
author in her treatment of the topic of cultural encounters. The jokes are directed mainly at Anglo

The Immigration Administration Of New Zealand Essay
New Zealand (NZ) ranks very well in quality of living standards globally and thereby makes it a
sought after destination for immigration. To ensure protection of interest of immigrants and to
safeguard the reputation of New Zealand as a top destination of choice the Immigration Advisers
function is regulated via implementation of the Immigration Advisers Licensing Act 2007 ( The
Act ). In the case of ZW v Immigration Advisers Authority, Judge Priestley J rightly stated that
Parliament s objective for passing the Act was to clean up the Immigration Advisers industry, which
was subject to much justified criticism; towards providing an improved system of transparency,
competency, Conduct Code and acceptable standards of service (ZW v Immigration Advisers
Authority [2012] NZHC 1069 at [41]).
This Act managed to build an overarching legal architecture with clear operating regime, defined
stakeholders accountabilities, well defined process steps and created necessary checks balances to
protect all involved. The Act sits at the centre of the Legal framework that holds the Immigration
Advisory function and creates the necessary safeguards to protect consumers and enhance the New
Zealand s reputation by regulating the practice of providing immigration advice both onshore and
offshore.
Immigration New Zealand (INZ) function sits within the Ministry of Business, Innovation and
Employment, and aims to increase the economic and social framework of NZ by facilitating and

My family and I have always loved baseball, whether it s watching the Chicago Cubs or
practicing it ourselves. It is a goal of ours to visit every Major League stadium. So far, we have
visited Wrigley Field, Miller Park, and Busch Stadium. In April, we are going to Colorado to
watch the Rockies play the Cubs at Coors Field. We always have a blast during baseball season.
We all consider it normal to shout at the TV like maniacs if the Cubs begin to struggle. At the
dinner table, my dad and I love to talk about analytics and statistics. We even talk about future
moves for teams to help them improve. We consider trades and transactions that make sense for
both sides. I go as far as going on MLB 17 The Show and completely rebuilding MLB rosters, it s
sorta nerdy thing in all honesty. My dad and I even build one day fantasy teams on Fanduel, an
app that allows us to make teams with a specific budget and even make real money. Though it is
seen as a gamble by my mother, we just enjoy doing it, although we don t win very often. One
time though, I made a team that won us four hundred dollars and we were psyched. I feel like
baseball actually helps me bond and connect with my family, especially my parents. They become
enthusiastic watching me play. My mom is always nervous though. Everytime she watches she

Compare And Contrast Hyde And Frankenstein
DantГЁs is also shown to be similar to Frankenstein and Jekyll, in that the three are unable to
escape from their creations. DantГЁs and Jekyll are trapped more so than Frankenstein, as they are
the same person as their creations, whereas Frankenstein is trapped by being unable to bring
himself to create a female creature due to the effect it may have on society. Frankensteins identity is
called into question here, as he becomes almost defined, in the Creature s eyes, as being unable to
keep his word. The Creature s words show a parallel between himself and Hyde and Frankenstein
and Jekyll: You are my creator, but I am your master obey!
The verb obey causes the creator s identities to be reduced to that of slaves: Frankenstein is forced

When DantГЁs is imprisoned, he loses his name, Hyde is known solely by his appearance, and the
Creature is never given a name. This contrasts with the socially accepted Monte Cristo, Henry
Jekyll and Victor Frankenstein. Their names allow them to be accepted by, not forgotten about,
shunned, or left incapable of joining, society. Unlike Hyde and DantГЁs, the Creature is never
named. He is constantly referred to as a creature and a miserable fiend. This mainly comes through
Frankenstein s point of view, which suggests that the Creature s monstrousness stems from
Frankenstein s perceptions of him and the way he is originally presented to the reader. Had the novel
been written from his point of view, it can be suggested that the Creature would not be viewed as
such a monster by society, and readers would have more sympathy for him. The absence causes
him to be dehumanised in a similar way to DantГЁs, who is renamed Number 34. Hyde,
however, is named, allowing Jekyll s view of his alter ego being natural and human to be more
accepted by society. Hyde s naturalness can said to be due to his evilness as he represents the
original sin found inside all of us. DantГЁs and the Creature are shunned by society when they
are without a name because they are distanced from society. Whilst DantГЁs distance is literal as
he has been taken away from Marseille, the Creature s distance remains figurative he follows
Frankenstein and is in fact very close to society. His distance stems from his hideousness and the
absence of a name to introduce himself by. He is left to forge his own identity which comes as
an incredibly hard task. Modern readers have felt sympathy for the Creature in his struggle to be
accepted: Shelley s use of his point of view in the novel aids this, however at the time of writing,
readers generally viewed the Creature as a

What Is Tobacco Advertising Targeting Children
Cigarette Advertising
Targeting Children
Regulations Worldwide
Southern Illinois University Carbondale
JRNL 407 Social Issues Advertising
Nadine Rueckner
Spring 2015
Introduction
Advertising in general influences everyone in many ways, particularly children imperiled by
advertisements and its effects. (Raju Lonial, 1989) I think it is an important topic to protect the
children from advertising, specifically from tobacco advertising, because we all know that smoking
is not good for your health, might cause cancer and could lead on to death.
Statement of Purpose
I want to show some examples of tobacco advertising and discuss especially why the industry
selected children as a target group with a short history and giving some examples how they
targeting children. I also want to share the advertising regulations that were made all over the world
to restrict tobacco advertising in the countries particularly to children.
Influence of cigarette advertising had the strongest and most consistent effect on the initiation of
smoking
(Fischer et al., 1991)
History
Before World War I broke out, the majority of the militaries were smoking pipe. Pipes and cigars
were the most popular types of tobacco smoking at this time. It emphasized the image of
masculinity in the nineteenth century. (Johnson Johnson, 2014) This war initiated that cigarettes
got more popular any other type of smoking and soldiers and civilians had the opinion that cigarettes

The Walking Dead Video Game
The game by Telltale known as, The Walking Dead , places the player in morally ambiguous
situations where the player thinks their actions are responsible (inter(re)activity) and feel that exact
responsibility (empathy). An article by Smethurst, Toby, and Stef Craps, Playing with Trauma:
Inter(re)activity, Empathy and Complicity in The Walking DeadVideo Game. , suggests this morel
conundrum on how games [have the] ability to involve the player in the game world through
inter(re)activity (Smethurst and Craps). There lyes a misconception in the game The Walking Dead
where the player is introduced to believe the players decisions effect a different outcome to how the
storyline will turn out.
We must first look at the article by Smethurst and Craps to show how the game pulls the player in
emotionally. The article discuses complicity, where inter(re)activity and empathy come hand in
hand in engaging the player. The player, more often than none, feel[s] as though they are
complicit in the perpetration of traumatic events (Smethurst and Craps). The deaths, however, are
already planned out and each is [a result] of the player s malign intentions or their lack of skill; if
[they] succeed, it is because the player has navigated Lee through the game s levels adroitly
(Smethurst and Craps). The beginning scene of season 1 episode 1, reluctantly, shows there is no
way to avoid the whole incident that gets Lee all wrapped up in everything in the first place.

Police Body Cameras Essay
An increased attention on fatal police encounters and citizen s complains of improper use of
force have led to calls for law enforcement officers to wear body cameras when on duty. In order
to improve policing and police oversight the following recommendations are suggested: 1) Body
cameras should record at all times to increase accountability, 2) Monitoring should be done with a
fire alarm approach to incur effective oversight, 3) Footage must remain private to not decrease
policeproductivity by over monitoring.
The cameras must be required to be on recording mode when police officers are on duty and when
they respond to calls for service. Further, when activating the camera would slower the application
of force, and when it is unsafe to activating the camera, they police could have the excuse for not
recording. When these special conditions happen, the officer should report clearly the reason for
not recording. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If officers are required to record their interactions with the public, not recording the interaction and
having a complaint filed could incur gravely on their professional future. Because of this, officers
will have an incentive to better perform policing and reduce to a minimum improper behavior that
could lead to complaints against them.
The police body camera is a device with monitoring purpose. The footage provides convenience
to the supervisor to be able to monitor the daily work of the police. As the service provider
would store the footage for at least 5 years per camera, the supervisor could randomly select the
record and check for each police working attitude and manner per day. Through this random police
patrol monitoring, the police would be incentivized to work harder and in a better manner and the
problem of police brutality would be greatly

Modern English Language
There are 6,909 languages spoken in the world today (Anderson). As of 2009, roughly 328 million
people speak English as their first language, coming in third to Chinese and Spanish (Languages of
the World). This essay will describe the geographies, politics, and arts that contributed to the
evolution of the present English language, as well as the different pronunciations, dialects, and
varieties that have risen up throughout the world. Several countries and civilizations influenced the
English language. In the nineteenth century thirty million people immigrated to the United States
of America (History: Late Modern English [c.1800 Present]). These included Italians, Austro
Hungarians, Russians, Germans, Norwegians, Swedes, and more. Many times these immigrants
would form their own communities in which they would have a distinctive English with a strong ...
accent and an idiosyncratic syntax (History: Late Modern English [c.1800 Present]). During this
time, the British Empire spanned nearly twenty five percent of Earth, including Canada, South
Africa, India, Australia, and several other countries. Once colonized, the natives were taught the
English language and contributed some of their own words as well (History: Late Modern English
[c.1800 Present]). Through the colonization process, several varieties of the English language were
produced. Examples of the New Englishes were Australian English, South African English,

The Advertisements Made By Oral B, Colgate, And Crest Use...

in various ways in order to have specific effects on their intended audience. These three ads, all in

effect. By formating their advertisements in differing styles, these agencies are attempting to ensure
that their product will be impactful and successful in the marketing industry.

Other evidently bright features of the advertisement include the scene in a restroom, which has a
white backdrop, and the scene in which she is walking down a hall as it includes camera flashes.
The incorporation of shininess into the background of the ad coincides with Laurie Hernandez s
sparkling teeth; her visibly white teeth speak to the capabilities of the brand. This brightly colored
imagery along with the previously mentioned aspects of the ad lead the viewer to equate Crest with
brightness and shininess, two common characteristics that consumers look for in a toothpaste.
Another area of comparison between the three ads are their varying movements. In the Oral B
advertisement, viewers are first drawn to the image of a woman who is presumably a dentist.
The image is most drawing because of its location in the optical center; moreover, it is the focal
point of the ad. Next, the motion of the advertisement guides the viewer to the largest text, located
at the top. The top text is larger in font size and easier to read, drawing the audience in more so
than the small text which is more difficult to see from a distance. This ad then directs the eye to the
toothpaste box that the woman is holding and finally to the bottom text. The area of the bottom text

PART III Retrospective Evaluation
In order for Christine to solve her primary problem two things need to occur. First, Christine
should take a class in organization behavior. Understanding the team development process, as well
as, team effectiveness, and teams in an organization will definitely help Christine. She will be able
to understand, and identify positive and negative aspects of her project team and would have been
able to implement steps to correct any deficiencies.
The second aspect was Christine s lack of effectiveness and her inability to integrate Mike into the
team. After the first meeting which Mike attended, the problems started. Mike did not make
meeting, and was submitting hand written notes. Christine should have structured a meeting that
Mike could attend, or scheduled a team building social event. in addition, she could have started
reviewing his notes with the other team members at the meetings since he was not there to do it
himself. This would at least have given the other team members the knowledge that Mike was
making an effort on his part of the project.
PART IV Reflection
In my opinion Christine was presented with a challenge that was way above her level of
experience. Her lack of knowledge in team development, and as a team leader was evident in the
project team. The team did not make it past the storming phase, and therefore never fully developed
into an efficient team. She failed to integrate one individual into the

All of the Other Ways of Knowing Are Controlled by...
Language is such a universal phenomenon in human society. Whenever we write or speak, we use
it; whenever we make a promise or ask a question, we use it. In the statement ВЎВ§All of the other
ways of knowing are controlled by languageВЎВЁ, language is defined as ВЎВ§wordsВЎВЁ and
this ВЎВ§controlВЎВЁ can be defined as ВЎВ§dominateВЎВЁ. Then this saying seems not so
fair to represent the relationship between the four ways of knowing. It is more sensible to say
language gives some support or limit to our reasonВЎAperception and emotion. It may influence
them, but not only one way ВЎV the four ways of knowing interact with each other.
The function of language is particularly relevant in reason. We should believe our application of
reason is within our mind ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, once people notice that language gives some misunderstandings sometimes, language will
be less powerful to affect our perception.
Emotion, in the strict sense, looks like the way of knowing that is least dependent of language.
Language suffers due to its relative inability to adequately represent emotion. For all of us it is
very hard to verbalize our emotions exactly. I love my mother so much, but what is love? I
respect her, feel happy when talking to her, and I want to take care of her one day like she
always does for me now. However, it is not enough and detailed to express love. Even if in poems
that are more expert in language, it is lacking of sensible words in presenting our subtle emotions.
It can be argued that people will hold different emotions while thinking the same thing in different
languages. The reason is when we think in a certain language, we will directly think about the
literature and phrases in this language which could favor certain thinking patterns of our cultural
background, then easily lead to different emotions and perceptions. Thus, language may influence
our emotion in some manner.
Actually, language and emotion interact with each other. Consider the lecture given by Martin
Luther King (1963): ВЎВ§I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, every hill and
mountain shall be made low; the tough places will be made plainВЎKВЎВЁ In this lecture, the
orator repeated the phrase ВЎВ§I have a dreamВЎВЁ

Crime Victimization Essay
This is an important phenomenon to discuss because this is how the seed of the cultivation of
fear is planted. When people watch the news and see that every story or top headline is related
to violence in their city, it can be hard to convince people that the world may not be as violent as
what it being reported. It can be especially difficult to convince people that the world is not as
violent as they believe because the news is considered a reputable source of information.
News media viewing is assumed to produce many more example of crime victimization than thru
involvement. Gerbner and colleagues suggest that frequent viewing of television s representations of
often graphic examples of crime victimization. Thus, in looking at the relation ... Show more

Mainstreaming takes into account the types of life experiences that people encounter will
determine how much influence the news has on their perceptions. If a person has never
experienced some aspects of life, then he would be forced to accept what he sees on television.
According to this aspect of the cultivation theory and the cultivation of fear, people who have not
had personal experiences with certain aspects of life, will be most influenced by the messages that
are being disseminated on the news. This makes sense because those people have no information to
refute or accept what is being reported to them.
Naturally, the news is expected to provide a true account of the happenings in the world.
Mainstreaming is the process in which people begin to accept the information and messages that
is being provided to the public as true. The reality that the news constructs becomes the standard
to which reality is compared. If the viewer is not familiar with inner city (as opposed to the
suburbs) then they begin to learn about the inner city through what is displayed in the media. This
is one way the news begins to have a significant impact on the viewer s perceptions of the

cost volume profit analysis
Question 2
Cost Volume Profit Analysis
1.0 Introduction
According to Jon Scheumann a successful organizations need a culture that is attuned to cost
management and pay attention to cost structure
From that statement manager must pay attention and carefully thinking when do decision making
to the cost. For example when manager want to target the profit. They must take every cost that
related in production such as variable cost and fix costs.
Cost Volume profit analysis is used in decisions making in a company. The reasons why used cost

So when the firm done correctly to identify fixed and variable cost, it can do CVP analysis
correctly and manager can used the correct CVP analysis to make decision making.
2. In graph Cost are in straight line
Assume that fixed cost no change in any of range. Variable Cost is proportional and parallel to
the line revenue. So in the reality cost of behaviour not remain constant. It mean when we do
CVP analysis we must assume a straight line (constants) so when do a calculation it easy to
calculate the cost and make analysis. For example if we see in graph the cost is curve line it hard
to calculate the cost if the cost is out of range from the graph. So that why we must assume in
straight line so it easy to calculate and identify the cost even it out of range in graph.
3. Price is fixed for every volume was purchase/selling ( selling price/direct material)
When buy a lot of item, item we buy was offering/make a discount. These make a problem to
determine contribution margin ratio. Example normally when we buy/sell a lot of item we can
receive/give discount. Event we know that it hard to calculate when price always changes base on
the quantity item of we buy/sell. So in order to make easy calculation we must make assumption
fixed price every volume was purchase and selling and ignore the cost that give effect the change in
price and volume.
4. Variable cost is fix per unit not calculated based on volume produce
So when it calculated per unit it hard to

Basic Order Picking In the most basic order picking method, product is stored in fixed locations
on static shelving or pallet rack. An order picker picks one order at a time following a route up
and down each aisle until the entire order is picked. The order picker will usually use some type
of picking cart. The design of the picking flow should be such that the order picker ends up fairly
close to the original starting point. The picking document should have the picks sorted in the
same sequence as the picking flow. Fast moving product should be stored close to the main
cross aisle and additional cross aisles put in to allow short cuts. Larger bulkier items would be
stored towards the end of the pick flow. This basic order picking method can work well in
operations with a small total number of orders and a high number of picks per order. Operations
with low picks per order will find the travel time excessive in this type of picking and operations
with large numbers of orders will find that the congestion from many pickers working in the
same areas slows down the processing. Zone Picking Zone picking is the order picking version of
the assembly line. In zone picking, the picking area is broken up into individual pick zones. Order
pickers are assigned a specific zone, and only pick items within that

Phyllis Schlafly And The Feminist Movement
Equal rights has always been an apparent issue in the society of America. For centuries, women
have taken on the role as property to their husbands and have lived quiet lives under the male
control. Questionable amendments and laws such as the Equal Rights Amendment, or ERA, were
created to provide equal opportunity to both sexes. The ERA was specifically created to provided
absolute equal rights for women. Today, America is in desperate need of the Equal Rights

There would be tensions created between Izzy and her mother, Izzy sees her mother as leaving
for herself, but however her mother is leaving so she could be able to finish her studies and
research. Which could of course lead her to better job opportunities for Izzy s mother and a
more successful future for Izzy. Because of Izzy s misunderstanding, there is tension created
between the both of them. This is shown in paragraph 34. Izzy replies with Opportunity? For
me? Or for you? . This shows that Izzy is unclear of the opportunities they both will receive if her
mother goes out to finish her research. This of course leads to tension created between both of
the characters. Another way this is shown is in paragraph 45. The text shows I think you re going

because of this, tension is created between the both of them. These misunderstanding leads to both

Mathematics and Tennis

Since I was a kid I had good interest for tennis. I would spend hours just sitting and watching
tennis games. By the time I was 8 years old my dad bought a table tennis(ping pong table). He
taught me how to play and keep a score. At first it was hard to learn, but once I get a hang of it
was one of the best things I learned from my father. I still remember the first time I won a match
between me and my father it felt so good to beat him. If I remember right we played 3 set of games
and he won the 1st set 6 1, I won the 2nd set 6 4, and the I won the 3rd set 6 4 again. I went to

I took his challenge and like all the students I played he was weak too. I played with him all
semester and he lost in every game. I asked him if there was a table tennis team here at John F.
Kennedy high school so I can join, but his answer was that we don t have table tennis team
because it wasn t that much of a popular sport. Sophomore year I found out that there was a
tennis team in John F. Kennedy but it wasn t table tennis. So I tried out for the Boys Varsity
Tennis team and I was bad at it, but the coche Mr. King who was also at the time my NSL
Government teacher let me join the team. I thought it would be easier because I already knew
how to play table tennis but it was totally different and harder. Within a week I start getting good
at it and by the end of the season i fell in love with tennis. I spent all my summer 2016 practicing
tennis and I got so good at it. In this Mathematics Internal Assessment I will be exploring how is

The marvels behind this game helped me build up the nerve to ask him to let me give it a try for
myself. Keep in mind if you knew the addictive nature behind World of Warcraft it took him a
while to start sharing the PC we had to allow me to also to have some play time on his account.
Although once I was there is no possible to hide the fact that I was hooked as soon as I gave it a
try. In 2009 I finally came to a conclusion, I couldn t continue playing this game despite the
various expansions that were created after the original in 2004. As I decided to stop, I witnessed
my brothers continuing on without me. Along with this I started to build up the curiosity of how
much popularity this game has brought about, in order to build a demand for these expansions. It
then occurred to me that the fans of the game built the continuation of playing. Most commonly
we assume that we need to associate the concept of being a fan to a celebrity. After reading
through chapter 8: Media fandom and audiences subcultures I was able to come to a new
redefining aspect of looking at fans with the help of Jenkins and later scholars when indicating that
... fan audiences are deeply engaged in their favorite media texts. Fans often reinterpret media
content and create their own cultural productions in response. (Sullivan, p. 193). This constantly

The Power Struggle in The Clerk’s Tale Essay
Through layers of narrators, The Canterbury Tales frequently critique meaningless conventions and
abusive uses of authority. The Clerk s Tale struggles with the subversive power inherent to passive
submission, showing how it enables an inferior to exert control over those who cannot be
dominated through direct means because of their complete and unquestioned authority. In the
context of The Clerk s Tale, Griselda and Walter have a very strange relationship in which a
confusing powerstruggle develops out of Griselda s complete submission. In her goodness she is
able to force Walter into damaging his own honor and proving his own faults. Ultimately, her
submission is able to strip Walter of his power and manhood just as he strips from... Show more

Each relationship is a development of the binary opposition between passive aggression and direct
authority as a way to abuse power. Just as Griselda s meekness is able to twist and distort Walter s
intentions, the clerk s meekness is able to twist Petrarch s intentions. Submission is a means to
power that has nothing to do with virtue or goodness. It is deeply perverting of Christian virtues
and reveals an inner sadism/masochism involving deep suffering of the self in order to control
others and resist domination, which the submissive takes pleasure in their own suffering because of
the power it grants them.
This struggle becomes apparent only when the position of the narrator to the story is understood.
The story of Griselda and Walter in the 14th century was a folktale. Boccaccio s version of the
folktale...was translated by Petrarch into Latin, (Dinshaw132). which in turn was translated into
French several times. Chaucer based his retelling of the tale on Petrarch s Latin version and an
anonymous French prose translation of Petrarch. Petrarch was the poet laureate; his sweet rhetoric
is highly stylized analogy. From a folktale, Petrarch adapted a story that, in his mind, would lead
readers to emulate the example of feminine constancy, and to submit themselves to god with the
same courage as did this women to her husband. (Dinshaw149) Petrarch s story is allegorical of
every human being s relationship with god. When the Clerk explains Petrarch s

Advanced Knowledge of Technology in the Classroom
Using online programs in the classroom is becoming a common practice for delivering educational
information. However, the use of Internet sources and materials that support instruction often
requires users to have more advanced knowledge and understanding. Online access has become the
central focus on students habit. Gillam and Wooden (2013) stated that educators need to create high
functioning learning communities in an otherwise disembodied online learning space (p.24). Inan,
Lowther, Ross, and Strahl (2010) conducted a study to identify instructional strategies that teachers
used to integrate technology in their classroom. This study used direct classroom observations to
inspect the models and distinguish between types of computerapplications and classroom practices
related to the real actions of information gathering in the classroom. The subjects in this study were
39 participating schools located in Tennessee and had received federal funding from the U.S.
Department of Education to implement school wide technology initiatives. Thirteen of the schools
had received Title II Part D (EdTech) funding from the No Child Left Behind Act and 26 received
funding from the Technology Literacy Challenge Fund (TLCF).

technology integration lessons. Two instruments were used to descriptively, not judgmentally,

Pros And Cons Of The Louisiana Purchase
The Louisiana purchase was Spain s territory of about 828,000,000 square miles. Louisiana being
Spain territory made it extremely difficult to move goods because, without access to the
Mississippi River, the goods had to be moved through the mountains. With access to the
Mississippi River, the goods could be taken by boat. Thomas Jefferson knows that Spain is
struggling, so he knows he is more likely to be able to purchase Louisiana from them because they
needed the money.
Spain signed the Treaty of Ildefonso and gave the territory to France. Jefferson knew that France
would be more difficult to get through to because France was ruled by Napoleon and he wanted
to build an empire. If Napoleon built his empire in Louisiana and made it his base then he would
be able to attack American territory easily. Since Napoleon was trying to take over Europe while
George Washington was in office, what would have stopped him from trying to take over the
United States?
Santo Domingo was an island that Napoleon wanted to be his base of operations for his military.
Santo Domingo had sugar plantations with slaves. When the slaves began to uprise, led by
Toussaint L ouverture, there were far more slaves on the island then other people so it was easy
for the slaves to take over and kill everybody. Napoleon wanted Santo Domingo so he sent about
25,000 soldiers from his troops. The slaves beat Napoleon s troops too and France had the
strongest military of them all. Napoleon lost the island and

Sub Saharan Afric Developing The World With Its Most...
INTRODUCTIONBackground Sub Saharan Africa continues to present the world with its most
formidable developmentchallenge. During the last two decades the number of the poor in Africa
has doubled from150 million to 300 million, more than 40 percent of the region s population. About
one thirdof the region s population lives in countries affected by or emerging from conflict.
Moreover,HIV/AIDS continues to threaten African lives and livelihoods. Africais the only region
thatremains behind on most of the MDGs. On current trends it will fall far short of meeting

sustainable development. Lessons of thecontinent s development over the last two decades
consistently highlighted the need for moreintensive efforts to effectively address some of its major
development constraints. Acombination of ineffective policies, outright mismanagement (in some
countries), heavyexternal debt burden, poor governance, and conflicts precipitated the massive
economicdecline in the early 1980s. The recovery in the latter half of the decade was partly due
tomajor economic policy reforms as well as growing socio political pluralism and economicstability,
which were consolidated in the decade of the 1990s. Yet, much still remains to bedone, as the

Christian Teachings On The Righteousness Of God
There is a lot that could be said about the righteousness of God. Simply put, righteousness is the
life of God. It is a pure or undefiled state of existence. Everything about God is righteousness, and
everyone who has been born of God through the cross of Calvary has been given this nature of
God. This is the nature of life and purity. Godis a spirit and when He birthed us, He recreated us in
spirit so that we may once again be like Him. When we were born again in the spirit, the Lord
gave us His pure nature that is against anything that is filthy. Sin is the dirtiest thing in the sight
of God. Anyone who is born again has been born again in the righteousness of God. Those who
believe in Jesus are born into a new spiritual kingdom of righteousness. God is righteous and his
kingdom is the kingdom of righteousness. The number one enemy of the kingdom of righteousness
is sin. Those who are born again are born against sin. Everything about our new kingdom is against

To live in faith is to live in the spirit. When you live in the spirit, you are no longer controlled by
the world. Anyone who lives in the spirit does not care about what the world is doing or saying,
he is mindful of what God says. He has separated himself from the poisonous influence of the world.
Faith is a spiritual power or ability that connects those who love the righteousness of God to the
spiritual realm of existence. It makes it possible for us to comprehend and touch the spiritual things.
Through faith, we understand that the Spiritual is more real than the physical. It is only through
faith that we could understand the mysteries of God s existence. Furthermore, it is through faith
that we understand that the spiritual powers have created the physical entities, and due to that, what
is physical must be subordinate to the

Almost Lover by A Fine Frenzy Essay
Almost Lover Many songs have deeper meanings then what we truly think. Its important to really
take time out of the day, and sit down to dissect the song to find its true meaning, or maybe even its
multiple different meanings, that have been hidden away. The song Almost Lover, by A Fine
Frenzy, is one of the songs that could have multiple different meanings behind it. The female singer
of A Fine Frenzy, is named Alison Sudol. Alison Sudol is from Seattle, Washington. She was born
December 23, 1984. She sings mainly Indie songs, and also stars in a few movies. In the song
Almost Lover, she is singing about her lover leaving her behind. Its a slow, Indie song that has
sweet, but sad music to it. Many questions arise when it comes to... Show more content on

When she states that he told her he wasn t ever going to forget about what they had been
through, or their memories together. Then throughout the chorus of the song she repeatedly
tells him goodbye. It raises the two big questions, one of which is where did her almost lover
go? Did he simply leave her for someone new? Maybe he passed away, and she is still broken
hearted about it. Its difficult to know for sure, but in part of the song, Alison sings about how
her almost lover used to sing her Spanish lullabies. This could mean a few different things, one
of which could be that he is Spaniard, and has left her to go back home to live with his family
again. Although it could just simply mean that he is just bilingual, but the thought of him being
bilingual raised other questions to me. Such as why is he bilingual if his didn t grow up in a
Spanish house hold? Did he learn the other language for a specific reason? I realized that the
answer to this question was the same answer to the second extremely big question that came to
mind when I realized that he didn t want to leave her either. This other question that came to mind
when dissecting this song was, why did the almost lover have to leave? If he never truly wanted to
leave her. Looking a bit more into the other two facts that were covered earlier. One of which was
that he was bilingual, and the other was that she can t look at the ocean without thinking about him.

Formal And Acceptance, Bid, Advertising And Public Offer...
Offer and acceptance There are six elements of an enforceable contract and we will discuss one
of them which is offer and acceptance. As we learned in the class offer and acceptance defined
as a proposal made by one party to another party that designates a disposition to enter into a
contract and a designation made by the offeree that he or she concurs to be bound by the terms of
the offer . This research, will discuss the requirement for a valid offer and acceptance, bid,
advertising and public offer and termination of an offer. Requirements for a valid offer The first
requirement is definite and certain which mean the offer must specify all the terms of the contract
without leaving ambiguous parts in it because if one of the competent parties misses an important
part of the contract there will be later disagreement. The second requirement is offer must be
communicated to the offeree, an offeror has a several ways to make the offeree know the contract it
may include oral communication, written communication, and also implied communication. For
example, Ahmed entered the juices store when he frequently purchased fresh mango juice. He
takes the bottle of the juice and showed it to the owner who was busy with other customers at the
time the owner nodded her head and smile Ahmed went out from the store .By the owner action, he
made an implied offer with Ahmed. By his action he had accepted the offer and that he would add
the charger for Ahmed purchase on his account to

able to tell her how he feel then having to go home to his junky excuse of a father, who did
nothing but drink all day and order him around, but not before disciplining him which usually left

then to Lucas and back again, but Lucas eyes are fixed on his best friend. The one person he
could tell anything. The one person who was closest to him. The one person who knew about his

crutches banging against the walls on the way in both exclaiming Hmmm what s going on in here
aye? . Lucas continued to stare deeply at Kyle, but Fleur got to her feet and quickly mumbled Oh
nothing, just all waiting for the bathroom. Right guys? .
Right... Lucas intensely said. No one believed the story but everyone could feel the tension, so
Soku merrily said Well the games not gonna play itself right? Hahaha then bounded out of the
room, grabbing Eve by the arm and pulling her with him. Fleur rushed out after them, red and
facing the floor bumping Lucas shoulder on the way out. Kyle s eyes met Lucas and saw the
anger and betrayal. The only words he could make out were Well, Im sure she thinks I m a good

Allegory In Veidt s Watchmen Moore And Gibbons
In Watchmen, Moore and Gibbons have a few subplots branching off of the main story. One of
these subplots centers on a newsvendor in New York City. A boy sitting close by is reading a
pirate comic book, and as the story moves forward, various panels and pieces of text from this
comic interposed with the real storyline. In this passage of WatchmenMoore and Gibbons utilize
the gritty allegory of the Sea Captain in the Black Freighter to foreshadow the ending of the
graphic noveland to give the reader more insight to the question raised throughout the entire story:
Who watches the Watchmen?
On page nine of chapter five, the first thing the reader sees is the other comic in the Watchmen s
universe, the Black Freighter. The overarching plot ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is one of the key themes from Watchmen. The Watchmen, who use their time and effort
attacking people who they believe to be the cause of the recent murders, make hasty determinations
of culpability and impose their vigilante execution without any foresight were doomed to make
mistakes. And, in defending the innocents, this raises the questions: how many mistakes will be
tolerated before one is considered villainous? How many innocent civilians can one harm without
becoming the very monster being fought against? Moore and Gibbons were using the Watchmen
not as a case for the necessity for people to take justice upon themselves but to show the idea that
vigilantes are essentially destined to turn into the villains they fight against. The main story is the
example of the message contained within the Tales of the Black

What Are The Negative Stereotypes Of African Americans...
This research paper s purpose is to explore the history of negative stereotypes of African Americans
on television during the past several decades. Because of African Americans status as a minority
within the United States, it is pertinent to showcase how this community is presented on network
television for the entire country to view. Even in a society that is more receptive to differences
between individuals due to the success of the Civil Rights Movement, the way the African
American community has not always been portrayed in a positive manner.
Furthermore, a part of this research will delve into the effects that adverse typecasting has had on
the perception of African Americans by those inside (children and adolescents) and outside of the
community such as further marginalization within a predominantly Caucasian society. In doing so,
possible solutions will be discussed as to how favorable renditions of African Americans can
become more frequent on TV. Concurrently, programs that are attempting to do show will be
highlighted. Keywords: racial stereotypes, African American, media literacy, cultural studies,
television, racism
The History of Stereotyping of African Americans on Television and its Effects Although the
African American image has become increasingly recognizable on modern day television, that
image is not always a positive one. Whether this was intentional or not, research has been conducted
that highlights the effects of this denigration on the

Ocelot Endangerment On Endangered Species Act
Ocelot Endangerment in Texas
ZoГ« Steele

The leopardus pardalis, or the ocelot, also known as the dwarf leopard, has been endangered
since 1982 and is protected by the Endangered Species Act (FWS, 2010). Ocelots have been
declared a federally endangered species (Tewes, 2001). They are native to South and Central
America as well as Mexico (FWS, 2010). Texas is a far north as the wild cat has been found, but
a few have been noted to have lived in Arizona and Louisiana in the past (Campbell, 2003,
Moore, 2013). A feature that denotes it from other cats is the parallel striping descending down
the neck and above the eyes. It is a medium sized cat with body size resembling the bobcat,
weighing between 24 and 35 pounds when full grown (FWS, 2010).
The habitat ocelots require include thick, thorny shrub and deep, fertile clay or loamy soils
(Campbell, 2003). Humans cannot walk or see through the dense brush that ocelots call home. The
Ocelot once inhabited regions of Texas to include the Edward s Plateau and Coastal Plain
regions. Now they reside in the Cameron, Duval, Hidalgo, Jim Wells, Kenedy, Kleberg, Live
Oak, McMullen, Nueces, San Patricio, Starr, Willacy, and Zapata counties of Texas. Ocelots
require about 95% canopy coverage as well as thickness of shrubbery for habitat. Borderline
habitats have 75 95% canopy coverage. The types of soil required for growth of the best coverage
and habitat are also coveted by companies seeking to expand agriculture. An

As the piece of literature advances, readers can interpret various symbols incorporated into the writing. Three of the major themes found in this story are domestic abuse, empowerment, and survival and these are interlinked by symbols such as the pile of white clothes, her sweat, and the Chinaberry tree. The symbols in the story and the theme together make the story more powerful and amazing for the readers. In addition, Delia Jones character is a dynamic character that rises from the ashes from being this character that tolerates Sykes abuse into liberated soul who no longer lives in fear. This idea is expressed in The Follower by Seamus Heaney as well as in two short stories from Alistair Macleod s The Island ; The Boat and Golden Gift of Grey. . The texts illustrate the importance in establishing and maintaining connections of paternal nature. They divulge in the idea that incompatibility with one s home can affect the viewing of their place in the world, and indicate that qualities such as physical and intellectual skill can factor into a sense of belonging and place. Task 1 Frost, GKE1 Task 1 Page 1 GKE Task 1 Part A: Over the centuries there have been many different environmental and geographical factors that have shaped the development of the United States. Two of these factors that I feel are extremely significant to this development are the Irish Potato Famine and the discovery of gold in California. The Irish Potato Famine began in Ireland in September 1845. The famine was caused by an airborne fungus, phytophthora infetans, which attacks the leaves of the plant, turning them black, causing them to curl and rot, ultimately killing the plant. The rotting plant makes the perfect environment for the fungus to multiply. The wind then carries the fungus spores to more healthy plants. (Irish Potato Famine, ... DantГЁs and Jekyll are trapped more so than Frankenstein, as they are the same person as their creations, whereas Frankenstein is trapped by being unable to bring himself to create a female creature due to the effect it may have on society. Frankensteins identity is called into question here, as he becomes almost defined, in the Creature s eyes, as being unable to keep his word. When DantГЁs is imprisoned, he loses his name, Hyde is known solely by his appearance, and the Creature is never given a name. This contrasts with the socially accepted Monte Cristo, Henry Jekyll and Victor Frankenstein. Their names allow them to be accepted by, not forgotten about, shunned, or left incapable of joining, society. Unlike Hyde and DantГЁs, the Creature is never named. He is constantly referred to as a creature and a miserable fiend. This mainly comes through Frankenstein s point of view, which suggests that the Creature s monstrousness stems from Frankenstein s perceptions of him and the way he is originally presented to the reader. Had the novel been written from his point of view, it can be suggested that the Creature would not be viewed as such a monster by society, and readers would have more sympathy for him. The absence causes him to be dehumanised in a similar way to DantГЁs, who is renamed Number 34. Hyde, however, is named, allowing Jekyll s view of his alter ego being natural and human to be more accepted by society. Hyde s naturalness can said to be due to his evilness as he represents the original sin found inside all of us. DantГЁs and the Creature are shunned by society when they are without a name because they are distanced from society. Whilst DantГЁs distance is literal as he has been taken away from Marseille, the Creature s distance remains figurative he follows Frankenstein and is in fact very close to society. His distance stems from his hideousness and the absence of a name to introduce himself by. He is left to forge his own identity which comes as an incredibly hard task. However, once people notice that language gives some misunderstandings sometimes, language will be less powerful to affect our perception. Emotion, in the strict sense, looks like the way of knowing that is least dependent of language. Language suffers due to its relative inability to adequately represent emotion. For all of us it is very hard to verbalize our emotions exactly. I love my mother so much, but what is love? I respect her, feel happy when talking to her, and I want to take care of her one day like she always does for me now. However, it is not enough and detailed to express love. Even if in poems that are more expert in language, it is lacking of sensible words in presenting our subtle emotions. It can be argued that people will hold different emotions while thinking the same thing in different languages. The reason is when we think in a certain language, we will directly think about the literature and phrases in this language which could favor certain thinking patterns of our cultural background, then easily lead to different emotions and perceptions. Thus, language may influence our emotion in some manner. Actually, language and emotion interact with each other. When people watch the news and see that every story or top headline is related to violence in their city, it can be hard to convince people that the world may not be as violent as what it being reported. It can be especially difficult to convince people that the world is not as violent as they believe because the news is considered a reputable source of information. If a person has never experienced some aspects of life, then he would be forced to accept what he sees on television. According to this aspect of the cultivation theory and the cultivation of fear, people who have not had personal experiences with certain aspects of life, will be most influenced by the messages that are being disseminated on the news. This makes sense because those people have no information to refute or accept what is being reported to them. Naturally, the news is expected to provide a true account of the happenings in the world. Mainstreaming is the process in which people begin to accept the information and messages that is being provided to the public as true. The reality that the news constructs becomes the standard to which reality is compared. In graph Cost are in straight line Assume that fixed cost no change in any of range. Variable Cost is proportional and parallel to the line revenue. So in the reality cost of behaviour not remain constant. It mean when we do CVP analysis we must assume a straight line (constants) so when do a calculation it easy to calculate the cost and make analysis. For example if we see in graph the cost is curve line it hard to calculate the cost if the cost is out of range from the graph. An order picker picks one order at a time following a route up and down each aisle until the entire order is picked. The order picker will usually use some type of picking cart. The design of the picking flow should be such that the order picker ends up fairly close to the original starting point. The picking document should have the picks sorted in the same sequence as the picking flow. Fast moving product should be stored close to the main cross aisle and additional cross aisles put in to allow short cuts. Larger bulkier items would be stored towards the end of the pick flow. This basic order picking method can work well in operations with a small total number of orders and a high number of picks per order. Operations with low picks per order will find the travel time excessive in this type of picking and operations with large numbers of orders will find that the congestion from many pickers working in the same areas slows down the processing. The Clerk s Tale struggles with the subversive power inherent to passive submission, showing how it enables an inferior to exert control over those who cannot be dominated through direct means because of their complete and unquestioned authority. In the context of The Clerk s Tale, Griselda and Walter have a very strange relationship in which a confusing powerstruggle develops out of Griselda s complete submission. Each relationship is a development of the binary opposition between passive aggression and direct authority as a way to abuse power. Just as Griselda s meekness is able to twist and distort Walter s intentions, the clerk s meekness is able to twist Petrarch s intentions. Submission is a means to power that has nothing to do with virtue or goodness. It is deeply perverting of Christian virtues and reveals an inner sadism/masochism involving deep suffering of the self in order to control others and resist domination, which the submissive takes pleasure in their own suffering because of the power it grants them. This struggle becomes apparent only when the position of the narrator to the story is understood. The story of Griselda and Walter in the 14th century was a folktale. Boccaccio s version of the folktale...was translated by Petrarch into Latin, (Dinshaw132). which in turn was translated into French several times. Chaucer based his retelling of the tale on Petrarch s Latin version and an anonymous French prose translation of Petrarch. Petrarch was the poet laureate; his sweet rhetoric is highly stylized analogy. From a folktale, Petrarch adapted a story that, in his mind, would lead readers to emulate the example of feminine constancy, and to submit themselves to god with the same courage as did this women to her husband. Louisiana being Spain territory made it extremely difficult to move goods because, without access to the Mississippi River, the goods had to be moved through the mountains. With access to the Mississippi River, the goods could be taken by boat. Thomas Jefferson knows that Spain is struggling, so he knows he is more likely to be able to purchase Louisiana from them because they needed the money. Spain signed the Treaty of Ildefonso and gave the territory to France. Jefferson knew that France would be more difficult to get through to because France was ruled by Napoleon and he wanted to build an empire. Requirements for a valid offer The first requirement is definite and certain which mean the offer must specify all the terms of the contract without leaving ambiguous parts in it because if one of the competent parties misses an important part of the contract there will be later disagreement. The second requirement is offer must be communicated to the offeree, an offeror has a several ways to make the offeree know the contract it may include oral communication, written communication, and also implied communication.
