2. The Importance Of A Planning Practice At The Asian Region
Introduction
According to Abbot and Adler (467), the history identifies a set of opportunities that must be a
part of a planning practice, it should provide practical ways to define and explore the actual
institution and theoretical settings to balance the situation. This statement takes me back in time
while visiting the Asian Region such as the Philippines during my childhood, it is probably one of
the most wonderful experiences I ever had. I would like to look back on the beauty of the
Philippines more than ten years ago, particularly the Banaue Rice Terraces in Cordillera. Although
this place is naturally beautiful and considered as the unofficial 8th Wonders of the World
according to the UNESCO World Heritage during 1995 (Brown, Brown Walder, 2006), but this
place has gained little popularity. The place needs restoration because of the constant rains and
floods, there are also illegal loggers that are cutting down the trees and ruining their resources. It is
a sign that it has not given significant importance or it is somehow neglected. According to history,
the native people choose to live on the mountain rather than be taken as slaves by the Spanish
tyrants during the war. Civilization and modernization have come after the invasion, but they are
able to preserve their culture, language, and history when they choose to settle in this isolated
place. According to Mandelbaum (185 188), a sense of history is good for the profession because it
builds solidarity and

3. The Values Of The Indigenous Village Otavalo
The indigenous village Otavalo, located in Ecuador, is known for the beauty of its people and
surroundings. Situated in the highlands of the Andes mountains, it is surrounded by volcanoes,
and known for its famous market. A distinct difference from the United States is how people earn
money. Many people in the village make sweaters, blouses, and other traditional wear. They sell
their merchandise in the huge market and as a result, most people in the village are well off. They
also have more free time on their hands to be with family and friends unlike most of those who
work in the U.S.
In this small village, everybody knows everybody. OtaveleГ±os (indigenous group) have managed
to hold on to centuries old traditions without adopting a quick get dressed, here comes the tourists.
The OtaveleГ±os are proud of their culture and aren t afraid to show that. Women are seen wearing
embroidered clothing, while the norm for men are typical trousers, and a t shirt. On formal
occasions, men wear all white with a sombrero. The language that OtaveleГ±os usually use is
Spanish, but the indigenous group often uses their indigenous language Kichwa. An important
value that lies within their culture ties to their hair. In their culture, hair is sacred to them and is
typically grown out and braided. Unfortunately, social media pressures many men to cut their hair
to fit in, so when their hair grows to about twelve or thirteen inches they cut their hair off and repeat.

4. Reflection Paper On Classroom Management
Assignment 3 Draft 2
As I spend more time in the classroom each week, I find myself realizing more and more about my
personal feelings on classroom management. When I compare my opinions and feelings on
classroom management, I see connections between my beliefs and those represented by all three of
the behavioral theorists we have been studying; Lee Canter, Linda Albert, and Alfie Kohn. While
each of these theorists have varying opinions on how to manage students, I feel that they all have
important points that should be included in a successful classroom management plan.
Lee Canter s assertive discipline model is likely most often used in classrooms where the teacher
operates under a legitimate authority base. While studies show that students learn best in
classrooms where teachers display efferent or expert authority bases, I believe that there is some
definite value in using a legitimate authority base when it comes to class discipline and
management. The assertive discipline model encourages teachers to be proactive and anticipate that
students will break the rules (Canter, ) Another main focus of Canter s model is using assertive
command, which means the teacher does not retreat to a nonassertive passive stance or to a hostile
response when students misbehave, but rather repeats the rule to the student over and over before
making a corrective action. I believe that using assertive command in the classroom allows students
the chance to correct their actions and think

5. How Did Andrew Jackson Remove Cherokee Indians
When Andrew Jackson became the president of the United States, he had in mind to remove
Cherokee Indians from their society and place them on new lands provided by the Louisiana
purchase. A bill was signed in 1830, known as the Indian Removal Bill , which made Cherokees
migrate from Georgia, westward of the Mississippi river. The Cherokees had to be moved from
their lands because the environment they were leaving in was not suiting them well and they were
becoming a threat to the new government established by the United States. On President Andrew
Jacksonfirst annual message to Congress, he mentioned that Indians were given an opportunity to
get involved in their society, but instead the Cherokees wanted to create their own government

6. Reshaping DTV s Culture
Making Millenials proud DTV employees and customers by reshaping DTV s culture
TARGET: To attach a wow cool factor to DTV brand and make it more appealing to the Millenials,
representing employees and customers, to increase sales (by developing innovative products) and
reduce churn rate (by building customer centric DNA). This will, in turn, increase DTV s growth
and efficiency.
To enhance the connection between individual employees roles and the organization s strategy.
To constantly surprise customers with new products and turn them into proud DTV customers.
Whether to manage a company for growth or for efficiency is a classic dilemma, and the choice isn
t simple.
DIRECTV faces this challenge of rebooting its corporate culture by encouraging innovative
projects over the short term safe and profitable projects. PwC predicts that by 2016, almost 80
percent of its workforce will be composed of Millennials and it will also represent a majority of
consumers. Therefore, it is an important challenge to look ahead and figure out what drives
Millenials both from customers and employees perspective. In order to appeal to Millenials, we
need to have a wow cool factor. For this, we should reshape the corporate culture by building
customer centric DNA, provide greater flexibility, promote diversity, make a difference to them and
appreciate them.

7. Negative Effects Of Assault Weapons
Assault Weapons Have a Negative Impact on the United States Imagine having a loved one who
has been killed or seriously injured in a massive shooting. Sadly, every year many families grieve
the loss of their loved ones who were victims of these horrific shootings. Due to the use of assault
weapons, many innocent civilians lose their lives. There is no reason for any noncombatant to have
access to these life threatening weapons. In order to stop this mayhem, congress must come
together and reinstate the Assault Weapon Ban. Assault weapons should be banned since they have
a negative impact on the United States.

safety. Many students become frightened ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People who have mental illness can find ways to access these weapons; which can lead to
murder, crime, and destruction. For instance, a senior English major Seung Hui Cho was
allowed to purchase bullets and a nine millimeter Glock 19 pistol from a firearms store in
Roanoke Virginia. Considering Cho had a background history of a mental illness, which should
have became known in a background check, he was still allowed to purchase this dangerous
weapon. On April 19, 2007, Cho had shot and thirty two staff members and students at Virginia
Polytechnic Institute in Blacksburg (The Assault Weapons Ban). The students who went to school
were not expecting someone to show up and start to kill innocent people. Now, families whose
loved ones were killed in this horrific incident, left an indelible mark on their hearts because, the
thought of not having their loved ones on this earth anymore is unbearable. Imagine having to
lose a beloved family member who has been killed in a mass shooting. This horrific incident
proves that these weapons need to be banned in order to ensure that they do not end up in the
hands of the wrong people. Danger would be dispersed amongst the citizens of the United States if
these weapons end up in the wrong

8. La Mission Movie Analysis
Symbolic Representations One of the symbolic representations in La Mission is where it takes
place, in the mission district of San Francisco. It represents the traditional stance of Che the main
character and compares it to the shift to a more hipster neighborhood with new people like Lena
moving in who haven t been in the neighborhood until recently. He also restores old cars into low
riders which is historically Mexican American style of car. The music featured in this movie is a
mix of traditional chorales, native drums and guitars mixed with newer more modern version that
also show the transition that this community and culture are facing coming to terms with change
and homosexualitythat is culturally unacceptable. On the other hand, the movie Walkout shows a
symbolic representation in the movie in the form of the main characters father who has a traditional
blue collar job and represents the barrier that many Chicano s faced at that time. Another is the
school teacher Sal who really has risen above and escaped the life most Chicano s are facing.
This comparison is mirrored in the way some students like Paula are encouraged to attend college
while others are told to go into a low paying trade.
Arguments
From my perspective it s the judgement of homosexuality that is portrayed in the movie. Riddled
throughout the movie is drugs, other deities and violence. Even the main character Che is an
alcoholic bully who s been to prison. How they wrap their heads around these

9. Asian American Roles In Film
When it comes to Hollywood and the film and media industry, they tend to review Asia as more
of a country than a continent; this is politically incorrect and debatably offensive because of the
oversimplifying label that does not reference a specific region such as South, East, or Southeast.
This generalization is seen in the media and films where Japanese actors are hired to play Chinese
roles; Chinese actors are hired to play Korean roles and so on. Filmdirectors either assume one
cannot tell the difference because the directors cannot themselves or the directors simply do not
care who plays the role. Screen writers will create a role for someone who is Asian American; these
roles are likely to be perceived as nerds who are super intelligent,... Show more content on

The background roles played by Asian in television and films are cooks at Chinese or Korean
restaurants, laundry and dry cleaning workers, or involved with gangs and martial artists. These
representations are seen in movies such as Sixteen Candles where the Chinese foreign exchange
student is played by a Japanese actor, whose character is subdued, awkward, out of place, nerdy
and being exploited by his host family by doing dishes and laundry (Vasan 2014). Law and Order,
Fresh off The Boat, The Mick and The Pitch, to name a few, still play to some of the stereotypes
that are associated with Asians. The biggest concern with Asians in media is the lack of
representation they have. Roles that a designated for Asian are being whitewashed thus furthering
the perceptions and judgments about Asian Americans, which are largely aligned with the media
representations, and these stereotypes impact people s intent to interact with Asians (Zang 2010).
Whitewashing roles means a character that is known to be of Asian descent or Asian is played by
a white actors and/or

10. The Despicable Way We Feel About the Homeless Population
As New Yorkers, we have seen the all too familiar sight of homelessness and those who are
affected by it on a daily basis. We see homeless people sleeping on the subway cars, on park
benches, on dirty pavements, begging for food and money, pushing carts with garbage, dragging
around the little they have everywhere they go. They are the panhandlers, the mentally ill, the
uneducated and unmotivated who fell through the cracks, the substance abusers, society s filth,
and the bottom of the barrel. This is our perception of the homeless. Notice how none of these
ideologies are positive. It s time we change our perception. We need to learn to see the people
who are living under these conditions as people first and not judge or ignore them because of their
appearances. In order to do this we have to decrease the stigma associated with being homeless and
become more compassionate towards those who experience homelessness.
In seems like we have a love/hate relationship with the homeless. At times, we may choose to
help a homeless person in need but most of the time we turn a blind eye because it is a common
phenomenon. Sometimes we give a homeless person our chump change when we feel sorry for
them or we may even provide them with a meal, or perhaps give them a blanket or a coat, or
provide shelter when possible. But in most cases, we find them repulsive or lack a better
understanding of why they are in these situations, or simply don t care to understand why. Instead
we wish they

12. Ethics And The Ethics Of Ethics
Ethics Nurse s
Before all parties involved can begin a working relationship, each individual should discuss and
obtain a written description of the duties expected and the code of ethics that should be respected
and followed; by beginning with a clear understanding of ethical values. Ethics: the study of right
and wrong and how to tell the difference between them. Since ethics also means people s beliefs
about right and wrong behavior, ethics can be defined as the study of ethics. Ethics is not,
however, the study of what people do or how people act. This is descriptive, not normative. Ethics
is normative about what ought to be, not what is so; the study of what people say or think one
ought to do. Ethics is an enquiry into the truth, not into what people believe is true ( NATURE OF
ETHICS, ).
To continue, the floor is open to discuss ethical codes for nurses provision 2, the nurse primary

regardless of the interference of relatives or friends. Therefore, to one s surprise to see nurses who

13. The Gardner-Webb University Anti-Human Trafficking Club
Recalling the first time hearing about human trafficking, I remember sitting with my mother during
the church service. As the pastor explained the brutality of human trafficking, an image began to
form in my head of a young prepubescent girl forced into compromising positions. Then, the pastor
stated something that broke my heart, the majority of these girls were not captured, but sold. They
were sold by their fathers, or other members of their families.
This situation is depressingly similar to the biblical account of Joseph being sold for a few pieces
of silver by his own brothers, and then dragged from Canaan to Egypt, over 200 miles. We prefer
to think the concept of selling people into slavery as if they were simple animals as an ancient
practice the human race has finally surpassed. Unfortunately we are very wrong. This barbaric,
possibly fatal, transaction continues to happen to 20.9 million people, over half women (10

14. 1960s Counterculture Movement
The Time of Rebirth: Counterculture Movements Woodstock, psychedelics, and Rock n Roll were
all a major point in the 1960s counterculture movement. Many icons like Janis Joplin rose to their
fame during this era. The hippie movement, even 60 years later, is a major landmark in history and
pieces of the past can be seen in many different ways. Why are counterculture movements so
infamous and what purpose do they serve? Do counterculture movements establish a certain
principle or are they simply a rebellion against society? I feel as though counterculture movements
take place for a reason. Counterculture movements are more than a rebellion and help bring out the
issue that everyone tends to keep quiet about. Without counterculture movements, societies would
be forced to stay within the limits of what others dictate as right or wrong. The beginning of the

18. The Problem Of Working Capital Management
Introduction What people are not aware of is that working capital management is in itself
comparatively candid, in order to make certain that the company is competent enough to
actually fund the difference between short range assets short range liabilities. In reality, even so,
working capital management has fairly become the weakness of scores of finance companies,
with many CFOs efforts to recognize core/centre working capital drive forces and the suitable
level or stage of working capital. Which is the reason; companies can be minimal in their
capability to experience and survive unforeseen or unfavorable events and see to it, that the cash
or money is readily on hand as it is necessary, in spite of the situation or circumstances. So, by
comprehending the role and driving forces of working capital management and taking the
necessary steps in order to reach the correct levels of working capital, companies then can start to
decrease their risk, effectually get ready for uncertain doubt and enhance general performance.
Also, managing good working capital chiefly calls for managing and controlling the cash flows of
a company on an everyday, weekly, and monthly activity, in this way, they will be fulfilling all
debts, although, still reserving enough assets or capital to stay in operations and the creation of
profits. Moreover, working capital management is not an end. As such, it is a basic part of the
department s general overall management. The requirements

19. Infant Caregiver Attachment
The essence of attachment to a developing infant cannot be overstated. It is at the heart of healthy
child development. Also, it lays a foundation when it comes to relating with others. It plays a
crucial role in influencing the parent s ability to nurture and to be responsive to their children. The
effects of attachment to the developing infant are long term. Bowlby, the developer of the theory of
infant caregiver attachment, attachment security determines the infant s preferential desire for
contact with his or her caregiver (Levine, 23). The child uses the caregiver as a secure base from
which to explore the environment. When infants develop securely attached relationships to their
caregivers, they will have positive behaviours in the future. They also tend to show resiliency to
new environments. Attachment to the developing infant plays a crucial role in regulating stress in
times of illness, anxiety and distress. Infants develop different kinds of attachment relationships.
For instance, some infants can become securely attached to the parent while others find themselves
in an insecure attachment relationship. The differences are determined by the social environment

25. Project Planning Tools Are Useful For Tasks Essay
Project planning tools are useful for tasks with the possibility of different outcomes, where risks
of problems and failures exist and, therefore, require planning and all possible assessing options as
well as organizing activities and resources to deliver a successful result.
Some project planning tools are enumerated below. It is pertinent to mention that the effectiveness
and appropriateness of each one is a function of the project stage and the users experience:
PERT CHARTS
PERT is a planning and control tool used for defining and controlling the tasks necessary to
complete a project.
PERT Planning Steps: Identify the specific activities and milestones Determine the proper sequence
of activities Construct a network diagram. Estimate the time required for each activity Determine
Critical Path A distinguishing feature of PERT is its ability to deal with uncertainty in activity
completion times (Netmba, 2006). This is achieved by using 3 time estimates elements for each
activity (optimistic, most likely and pessimistic estimates namely). The weighted average of the 3
is then used as the due time.
This helps to bias time estimates away from the unrealistically short timescales typically assumed
Advantage as indicated on Project Management Tools and Techniques(Maserang, 2002):
Allows for better forecasting of resource requirements.

26. Life Of Being Born As A Hermaphrodite And The...
Summary
The article mainly discusses the life of being born as a hermaphrodite and the contradictions that
medical management and medical investigators have on them. The author of the article, Anne
Fausto Sterling, believes that hermaphrodites are human too and that the medical field should only
worry about the hermaphrodite s health conditions rather than their physical appearance. The
article states that Western culture strongly agrees that there are only two sexes, so being a
hermaphrodite is none existing. They are simply unexplored by science itself (pg. 2). Sterling
believes that hermaphrodites have needs as well as problems that need to be met and that they
deserve to be accounted for as sexes. The five sexes that are being discussed are male, female, and
intersex. Intersex is described as a catch all category for the subgroups that share both male and
female characteristics. That creates the term hermaphrodite (herms), which are people who have
both male and female parts. The second subgroup is called male pseudo hermaphrodites (merms)
which are people who are born with mostly male parts. The third subgroup is called female
pseudo hermaphrodites (ferms) who are those who mainly have female organs. The article focuses
on the structure of how hermaphrodites are classified. Ferms, which are the females, are mainly
female because they still develop a menstrual cycle during puberty but if they do not take any
medication for their disorder, they would develop traits as a

27. Management Style
As you may know, different management styles are required in different parts of the world. It is
important to choose the right management style for each situation, which is a key to success for an
organization. All managers use a management process which consists of planning, organizing,
leading and controlling. So they have to perform many roles in an enterprise. What they can do with
various situations will totally depend on their style of management. A management style is an
overall method of leadership used by a manager (Lessem et al, 1999). This essay will first
demonstrate different types of management styles, and then discuss three key factors that can
influence management style, with reference to Japan and America.
Each of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Japanese style takes a collective form of responsibility. Those manufactures produce high
product quality at a relatively lower cost (Alston, 1986). The reason is that this sense of collective
responsibility has positively affected the quality standards. Product quality is cooperatively
achieved by workers and managers. Japanese tend to believe the group is more important than the
individual (Alston, 1986). In terms of decision making, they probably attempt to gain consensus
even if it might require more time. As to Americans, who are almost self centered, they apparently
choose to make quick decisions on their own for immediate resolution (Anderson, 2009).
The second factor is staff belonging. The general principle of Japanese management is that
workers form a family (Alston, 1986). As a part of the corporate family , every member not only
pays attention to their own salaries, but also considers the development of the company. Pay is
only one reward. There is also a sense of belongingness and support that employees receive from
their corporations. On the contrary, Americans tend to indicate that there is no need for them to
become familiar with one organization and colleagues before they are off again on their trips
(Wellens, 1980). Perhaps individual freedom is more essential than staff belonging in their mind.
This different attitude leads to diverse management styles. One consequence for Japanese is the
practice of lifetime employment. The

29. Stalin s Impact On Russia
Stalinist Policies Set to Bring About Fruitful Changes Targeted at the Russian Society
By: Hashem Qaituqa
Under Stalin s regime, Russia is witnessing an era of rapid industrialization, and introduction of
social policies that will have a huge impact on Russian society. It is Stalin s view towards the west
that caused Russia to embark on the industrialization of the economy and military. Stalin fears that
if Russia remained agricultural, western interference might threaten it s stability in the future.
Furthermore, social policies such as compulsory education, improvements in health, and gender
equality were put and designed for the better of the nation, and to boost the morale of the people.
Stalin s View towards Western Nations
Western nations industrialized and their economies flourished. According to Stalin, if Russia did
not catch up with the race for industrialization, it will develop to become a weak country, and any

30. Determining Musical Genre
Determining musical genres is one of the most highly debated topics in the music world. To some,
there are strict walls that separate classical from baroque music and jazz from the blues, but to
others, the many overlapping qualities between opera and operettas make the line between their
labels very thin and blurry. The musiccommunity may struggle with this conversation for many
years to come and it is possible that distinct guidelines used to determine a composition s musical
genre will never be agreed upon. Nonetheless, in order to come closer to a commonly accepted
definition of specific musical genres, it is worthy to examine the historical background and social
context that surround the creation and evolution of genres themselves. The... Show more content on

Musicals can be described as any musical performance that includes dialogue, sometimes with
music beneath that dialogue. At first glance, the definitions between operetta and Broadway
musical appear to be quite similar, however the structure of the musical composition, the subject
matter of these two types of performances, and the reasons for production are drastically different.
For example, many Broadway musicals have an open ended run because producers want to garner
the highest profits possible. A narrower definition of a Broadway musical is any performance that
incorporates music and dance in one of thirty eight professional theatres that each seat 500 or more
people in the Time Square district of the borough of Manhattan, New York City. Although this
description is very specific geographically, this region is the reason Broadway musicals have their
current reputation and recognizable name.
The Broadway musical is the product of opera s evolution in America. Although these two musical
genres have key differences between plot and structure, they have many similarities such as voice
type and production structure. While it would be uncommon for Broadway stars of 2016 to sing
classical music at their solo concerts, this was widely accepted and encouraged of singers in the

33. Muscle Contraction Research Paper
Emily Branstetter
Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy
Skeletal muscle contractions play a pivotal role in our day to day lives. Their main function is to
generate force and provide our bodies with structural integrity. For many of us, muscle contractions
seem effortless, but there s actually quite a bit going on under the surface. Our muscles are
composed of sarcomeres, units of skeletal muscle fibers, which are made up of actin and myosin
contractile filaments. These filaments need to bind to each other in order to lengthen and shorten
the sarcomere. However, the binding sites for actin and myosin are blocked by troponin and
tropomyosin proteins. In order to get them off of the binding sites, calcium needs to bind to the
troponin, which then lifts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Being one of the proteins that initiates the unbinding of actin and myosin, its location allows for
easy access to bind to and change the shape of actin. As dystrophin and actin bind, force is
transmitted from within the sarcomere to the extracellular space and surrounding muscle cells.
When dystrophin function is inhibited, it won t bind to actin and the cross bridge cycle is
interrupted; meaning no contractions.
Lastly, because of the flimsy membrane, myo enzymes and calcium can leak out which has the
potential to decrease the function of the cell. The lack of integrity of the membrane also allows
particles to leak into the cell causing a concentration gradient. This gradient will draw water toward
the area to dilute it and with time leads to the bursting of the muscle cell.
Most common symptoms of DMD are muscle weakness and muscle loss progressing from the
legs to the arms, and the condition deteriorates over an extended period of time. This leads to
difficulties standing and walking and results in required use of wheelchairs, often by the age of
12 or so. It is not uncommon for someone with DMD to appear as if they actually have a large
muscle mass, but this is simply due to the buildup of fat content and the fact that muscle fibers are
being replaced by fat

Positive effects[edit]
Social Surrogacy Hypothesis[edit]
Current research is discovering that individuals suffering from social isolation can employ
television to create what is termed a parasocial or faux relationship with characters from their
favorite television shows and movies as a way of deflecting feelings of loneliness and social
deprivation.[1] Just as an individual would spend time with a real person sharing opinions and
thoughts, pseudo relationships are formed with TV characters by becoming personally invested in
their lives as if they were a close friend [1] so that the individual can satiate the human desire to
form meaningful relationships and establish themselves in society. Jaye Derrick and Shira Gabriel
of the University of Buffalo, and Kurt Hugenberg of Miami University found that when an
individual is not able to participate in interactions with real people, they are less likely to indicate
feelings of loneliness when watching their favorite TV show.[2]
They refer to this finding as the Social Surrogacy Hypothesis.[1] Furthermore, when an event such

37. The Sense Of Belonging And Interpersonal Connectivity
The sense of belonging and interpersonal connectivity is a widely researched topic in
psychology, but controversies have been surrounding it among different researchers (Ma, 2003).
Also, it has been defined in various ways . According to Vallerand, sense of belonging has to do
with the feeling of connectivity with others in the same environment, often involving identifying
oneself with a particular group. When the sense of belonging is deeply rooted within a group, one
feels accepted, loved and respected in self image, personally and what they believe in (Booker,
2004; Goodenow, 1993). Baumeister and Leary (1995) acknowledged that sense of belonging has
two features: contact and interactions at regular basis and the context of loveand care. Baumeister
and Leary said that human beings have a pervasive drive to form and maintain at least a minimum
quantity of lasting, positive, and significant interpersonal relationships (Baumeister Leary, 1995, p.
497). The sense of belonging has a lasting effect on one s personality in respect with emotions and
other cognitive processes (Baumeister Leary, 1995). When the sense of belonging is at its lowest,
students are prone to being engulfed by solitary thoughts, feel lonely and lose interest in many
social interaction opportunities (Goodenow, 1993). This in turn is attributed to dwindling academic
performance, as the students don t feel accepted and motivated within the social parameters around
them (Goodenow, 1993). Considerable

39. Why College Students Are Not Success In College
Through the years in America, more students in each generation of college are being successful
and finishing college. The latest data show that just 40 percent of Americans have finished an
associate s degree or above, while an additional 22 percent attend some college but failed to
graduate (Kelly, p.1). The 22 percent of college students who are failing to graduate, could be the
college students who are not being successful in college. There are many reasons why students are
not successful in college. Some main reasons students are not successful in college are typical
because of drugs, stress, time managementand procrastination, lack of desire and persistence and
also poor self esteem and lack of self confidence. One reason why students are not successful in
college is that of drugs. When students leave their homes to go off to college they meet new
people, and experience overjoy of new freedom. When students notice that they are experiencing
new freedom, they try new and different things. One of the main things students try that are new
and different, depending on where the student is from, are drugs. Students use drugs for a lot of
different reasons. Students use drugs to cope with stress, try to maintain course load, and they
are influenced by peer pressure. In college, drugs are taken too far once students start to use
them. Those who are enrolled in a full time college program are twice as likely to abuse drugs
and alcohol than those who don t attend college (College students and Drug Abuse). The students
who abuse drugs in college are the students that are normally not successful in college. The drugs
take over the mind and students become unfocused and behind in school work, which leads to
students failing out of college. Another reason why students are not successful in college is that of
stress. Relationships, family issues and cost of tuition are stress related factors that are dealt with a
college student. The America Institute of the street website says, a 2008 mental health study by the
Associated Press and mtvU eight in 10 college students say they have experienced stress in their

41. The Spiritual Society That Is Bound By God
The Beach The spiritual society that is bound by God is assured in knowledge as a centered
community that it occupies an extant purgatory between the natural and the supernatural and the
laws of modernity and eternity. This paradox is embraced by experiencing it and defining it
within the society. For the higher spiritual realms, animism and religious provisions forge
together to create a new weapon to fight against aberrations while refining a reality it no longer
perceives as spiritually centered. The artistic interpretation of such a life free from reality, a life
devoid of egocentric and self absorbed thoughts towards a modern life, may be able to rebuild a
new foundation and language for the spiritual society; for even if the new philosophies that are
fabricated are fleeting issues, the artist still creates a reality where this is perceived and understood.
As new theories percolate, the more it needs the aesthetic rendering, which goal is to reach the aloof
in hopes of arranging modernity into a new meaningful way. The holistic perception of the artistic
construct, in which it places emphasis while consolidating, begins to create a language for the
unspoken and give meaning to the ideas hidden within it. What these ideas mean must still be
broached through interpretation and is largely contingent on the level of reality manifested by the
artist. While in the higher spiritual realms the artist asserts a reality that more or less understands

anyone, especially those who have already retired and were living on a fixed income, including
retirement and social security. In the facility that I observed to live on the skilled care side and
receive care twenty four hours a day seven days a week in a semi private room (double
occupancy room), the cost was nearly $11,000 a month for each resident. The average cost
across the country is $248 per day for a private room and $222 daily for a semi private room
(Costs Of Care), which for a private room can add up to over $90,000 a year. While that number
is quite high assisted living can be much cheaper, at an average of $3,300 a month for the base
fee , however each additional service that they require help from staff to complete is an additional
fee. In the facility observed there was a fee for every action that staff completed or assisted with,
including assistance with medication, trash, cleaning, and applying treatments such as a breathing
machine. Though the cost may seem high many who do not have children or other family
members to help provide care for themselves or have a condition that cannot be managed at home
(due to physical or financial restraints) have no choice but to enter a long term care facility to
receive help completing tasks needed for simple

44. Disadvantages Of Gonorrhoea
Gonorrhoea are fastidious gram negative, facultative, intracellular and typically appear in pairs
(diplococci), in the shape of coffee beans. Among various species of Neisseria that colonize
humans, only N. gonorrhoeae is clinically important responsible for transmission through sexual
contact (Elias J et al., 2011).They are non motile, aerobic, capnophilic, non sporulating, possess
pilli to adhere the surfaces of mucous membrane of warm blooded hosts (Janda Wet et al., 2007).
The type IV pili (Biais N et al., 2008) operate mechanically similar to a grappling hook, which
extend and attach to a substrate that signals the pilus to retract, dragging the cell forward. N.
gonorrhoeae are able to pull 100,000 times their own weight, and it has been claimed that the pili
used to do so is the strongest biological motor.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Porin channels (porA, porB) in the outer membrane play key role in virulence of bacterial.
Gonococcal strains with porA may have natural resistance to normal human serum and an increased
capacity to invade epithelial cells; Gonococci attach to the host mucosal cells and enter within 24
48 hours through the subepithelial space. A typical host response is characterised by invasion with
neutrophils, followed by epithelial sloughing, formation of submucosal micro abscesses, purulent
discharge and if left untreated, macrophage and lymphocyte infiltration replaces the neutrophils.
Some gonococcal strains causes an asymptomatic infection, leading to an asymptomatic carrier state

stand trial is defined as the ability to participate adequately in criminal proceedings and to aid in
one s own defense. (Costanzo Krauss, 2012). This article addresses the development of modern
day competency ideas and standards, provides a sample competency assessment template, and
addresses various topics and issues related to the question of competency. This article address the
topic I have chosen specifically. The author provided an in depth analysis of the history and
current practices of competency to stand trial. He utilized various articles, assessments and
manuals in his review and analysis. His goal was to evaluate current standards and assessments and
provide a more effective assessment to be used across the board that addressed all of the various
aspects of competency. Otto provided that the concept of competency has been around since the
14th Century. The importance of a defendants ability to participate

46. Islamic Law and Human Trafficking in Saudi Arabia Essay
Over recent years, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has been confronted with a great challenge:
becoming a modernized country without rejecting its long held culture and heritage. In many
ways, the state has been a success story, having developed a profitable oil based economy and
considerable world influence. Less than one hundred years ago, Saudi Arabiahad not yet been
unified; today, it is a state with complex financial, legal, and political systems, with a culture
marked by deep history and faith. Since the September 11, 2011 terrorist attacks, Saudi Arabia has
continued to work on a reform agenda to promote greater participation by Saudi citizens, a vibrant
economy, and a civil society. However, many... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Qur an s commitment to fighting slavery, trafficking, and labor abuse, as well as Saudi Arabia
s hesitant creation of anti trafficking movements and legislation, indicate that such legislation is not
necessarily in contradiction with the principles of Islamic law. Despite the reluctance of Western
commentators and legal scholars to accept that Islamic law can reach outcomes largely similar to a
Western legal system, anti trafficking legislation and movements in Saudi Arabia have the potential
to succeed. As such, more effective ways to fight human trafficking in Saudi Arabia should stem
from cultural and political reforms and better enforcement of the limited anti trafficking legislation
it does have, rather than an unnecessary and politically dangerous upheaval of the legal system
from outside forces. Saudi Arabia s political culture is unfortunately not very conducive to gender
equality or anti trafficking measures. Women s rights in Saudi Arabia are defined by the Sunni
interpretation of Islam and various tribal customs under patriarchal culture of the country. Ali
Sallam, in an analysis of Saudi society, explains the often diminished societal role of women: under
tribal customs, all women are required to have a male guardian, who is either a father, brother, or
husband (Sallam, 2013). A guardian has both rights

47. Change In Film
Film, being both visual and audible, has become a power source of art throughout its
development. In many cases, films are used as a way to promote social change. The 2000 X
Men film can be seen as a cry for equality. A supernatural film about mutants versus humans sends
an underlying message about how people may not feel accepted or like they fit in just because
they don t conform to society. During the mid 1950s and early 1960s movies were used to
express the desire to break free, as a people, from the ideals of perfection and gender norms as
America underwent a huge social change that quickly became known as The Sexual Revolution.
(Escoffier, Sexual Revolution). Films such as Douglas Sirk s All That Heaven Allows (1955),

ultimately leads to a tragic end for him and it sends the message that not being accepted isn t okay.
Some Like It Hot (1959) is about men who dress as women to escape thugs and the women they
meet who march to the beat of their own drum. This movie was heavily considered against the norm
but was made despite American film censorship s contempt. Men in women s clothing was
extremely looked down upon, which made this movie bold and inspirational to anyone who felt
like they wanted to do or be something or someone although it might be heavily frowned upon (

48. Information Systems For International Students
Since all of us in our group are international students and a few of us are in our first semester at
Swinburne, it was almost impossible for us to find an Information Systems Manager and would
like to thank Jason for leading us to Mr. Mim Saznus. We understand that we are required to draw
a direct correlation between what we ve learnt in lectures and textbooks and see if we could relate it
to challenges that Information SystemsManagers face in the real world or see how much of a gap
we have between what we learn and what actually happens in the corporate world. We would like
to extrapolate inputs received from Mim during the interview in our research report and build on
the points that he has made.
Mr. Saznus was gracious enough to spare some time for an interview and we had a few great
learnings and insights into the Information Systems space. He isn t an Information Systems
Manager however has spent over 6 years in multiple industries very closely related to Information
Systems and Information Technology. Mim completed his Masters in Information Technology with
a specialization in Information Systems from our very own Swinburne University and is originally
from Bangladesh.
He started his journey in the Information Technology space by working as a Solutions Analyst for
the largest telecommunications equipment maker in the world, Huawei Technologies for over 2
years and then went on to pursue his Masters in Swinburne University. He was also a part of an

things that will scar their little minds (or cause them to ask questions you may not be ready to

51. Military Drones Research
One of the strongest attributes of the UAV weapon systems is their precision and accuracy on a
target. UAV s have the ability to scan, track and monitor a target for hours before ever engages a
potential enemy. During that time, the decision to engage is not left on the operator alone. The
unique nature of this technology is that more than one person has a vote in pulling the trigger. Due
to these unique capabilities, drones, according to many reports, inflict relatively low civilian
casualtyrates. (Williams, 2013) Critics use the subject of civilian casualtiesas an argument both for
and against the use of drones. From a purely statistical analysis and perspective, the use of drones
might be the safest and most precise way to strike... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During World War II, civilians were impacted by aerial bombardments on major cities, in both
Europe and Asia. The difference is a large aerial bombardment does not feel as personal and
direct as a drone strike. So victims of a drone strike actually have an issue to complain about but,
unfortunately, there is no one on the ground to assist family members who are grieving their loss.
The civilian casualty issue has less to do with the raw data, that actually demonstrates drones are
much safer than carpet bombing a city or industrial complex.
The issue is public perception. Counterterrorism analysts and politicians have reviewed data and
conducted public opinion polls of those affected by the drone strikes and found that
overwhelmingly those polled view the use of drones negatively (Bergen, P., 2011). In a 2009
Gallup Poll, only nine percent of Pakistani s approved of the use of drone strikes. Analysts believe
that this will lead to more of the public taking sides with the terrorist or at least becoming
sympathetic to the cause of groups like Al

53. How Is Miss Maudie Alike
Many people influenced the children s lives in To Kill a Mockingbird, but two women
particularly stand out. Miss Maudie and Aunt Alexandra were both very influential on the
children. Scout and Jem viewed both women differently, but both women affected them. Aunt
Alexandra and Miss Maudie were both proper southern ladies, and both wanted to help Scout and
Jem grow into better people, but they had different ideas of what a good person was, and how the
children could be good people. Aunt Alexandra had very strong ideas on how the children should
behave and dress. She thought that the children should dress like little ladies and gentlemen, and
be very proud of their family. She thinks they should act like Finches and be proud of being a Finch.

She thought the children should be kind to everyone for the sake of being kind, not for

side, and she doesn t talk down to Scout, she talks to her like an equal Our tacit treaty with Miss
Maudie was that we could play on her lawn, eat her scuppernongs if we didn t jump on the arbor,
and explore her vast back lot, terms so generous we seldom spoke to her (pg. 56). She and Aunt
Alexandra do have a few things in common though. They are both proper, polite ladies, and they
both want to help Jem and Scout grow into good young ladies and gentlemen, and they can both
be strict. Jem and Scout viewed Miss Maudie as a friend though, unlike Aunt Alexandra, as they
state here Jem and I had considerable faith in Miss Maudie. She never told on us, never played cat
and mouse with us, she was not at all interested in our private lives. She was our friend. (pg. 59).

Progressives lived mainly in the cities, they were college educated, and believed that government
could be a tool for change (Benz,2003). The progressive era was a hard time with big changes
that made people s lives harder and made some live better. Money became hard and work became
better for women. Women had the best outcome of the era. They got work and the right to vote.
Alcohol had a hard time working out in this time. People tried to make, sell, and transport it without
being fought but this became hard so the laws were changed. The sixteenth amendment states that
the congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived,
without apportionment among the several states, and without regard to any census or enumeration.
This means that it allows federal government to levy an income tax from all Americans. Income tax
allows for the federal government to keep an army, build roads and bridges, enforce laws and carry
out other important duties (Fiskin, Forbath, Jensen, 2017). This amendment played a central role in
building up the powerful American federal government of the twentieth century by making it
possible to enact a modern, nationwide income tax. The income tax became by far the federal
government s largest source of revenue. The sixteenth
