Baroque Music In Zadok The Priest
Zadok the Priest is a piece by George Frideric Handel from the Baroque Era, and Missa Papae
Marcelli Gloria is a piece by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina from the Renaissance Era.Baroque
music broke away from the harshness of the Medieval and early Renaissance style with new
emphasis on the use of vocal and instruments. Many musical forms were born out of this era
including opera. Some composers of this time were Tomaso Albinoni ,Antonio Vivaldi, Johann
David Heinichen,George Frideric Handel, Domenico Scarlatti , and Johann Sebastian Bach. The
church was the most important place where Baroque and Renaissance were playing as a serve in
the church . There are many changes happened between the renaissance and baroque period : The
first crucial distinction is the texture the shift from the imitative polyphonyin the renaissance era to
treble bass polarity, monody and the development of basso continuo . The second crucial distinction
is the tone of the baroque musicwas of development of tonal architecture and formal principles;
baroque, binary, ternary, fugue, etc. while the form of renaissance musicwas much of the systematic
point imitation and Cantus Firmus structures. The third crucial distinction is the Baroque musical
genres include both vocals and instrumentals, with the only difference being they were quite larger
in number of categories than those of in the renaissance era . The fourth crucial distinction is
Renaissance music consisted of smooth regular flow of

Article Review On Indian Penal Code
TOPIC TO BE COVERED IS AMENDED AND UNAMENDED ARTICLES IN INDIAN PENAL
CODE
Indian Penal Code is the core criminal Code of India. It is a broad code planned to cover all
substantive aspects of criminal law . It was drafted in 1860 and came into force in during the
early British Rule phase in 1862. The Indian Penal Code was drafted by the first Indian Law
Commission under the president ship of Macaulay and was submitted to the Governor General of
India in Council in 1837. In 1845 , another Commission was chosen to re examine the Code. This

AGENTS:
There are various agents who initiates and works really hard day and night to overcome the
criminal issues faced by our society. According to me at present the biggest and critical issue we
are facing is Rape cases, even after various amendments and legally sound acts are even not
overcome this problem. There are various agents who actively participates are as follows:
National commission for women: NCW along with the Law commission of India had
recommended a separate part called unlawful sexual contact , which was defined to cover the act
of touching, directly or indirectly, with a part of the body or with an object, any part of the body
of another person with sexual intent and without the consent of such other person. There was also
need to remove that very Victorian phrase of outraging the modesty of a woman in Section 354
and replacing it with violating the bodily integrity of the woman , which allows for a graded
recognition of non penetrative types of sexual assault.
There was need too for expansion the scope of Section 509 in the Bill to include acts and behaviour,
which do not engage physical contact but is proposed to harass or insult or humiliate women, with
or without sexual mean. Incidents like sexual harassment including sexual harassment at work
places, blackmailing, annoyance including cyber stalking, stripping, tonsuring, etc., which are

Speech On Grommet
Choosing The Right Grommet Type For Your Application
We have seen it already in many places. Also, we have already used it many times for day to day
applications. Anyway, people don t know the name of it. Well, we refer to the Grommet here. Are
you confused now? OK, go to your bathroom and take a closer look at the bathtub curtain! The
curtain moves along the bar on which it is on thanks to a few metal rings. We call those metal rings;
Grommet. You can see similar items on your shoes. Anyway, those are small items, and we usually
call them eyelets. The whole purpose of this small piece is reinforcing and protecting the hole.
Without the eyelets, the shoelace holes can get damaged from day to day use.

Banners, hospital curtains. tabletop displays, metal bakeware, protective barriers, non skid covers
for RV steps, aerospace parts, and fabrics are the common applications of an aluminum Grommet.
Now, you can understand how versatile this product is.
Why aluminum?: Well, we should highlight several properties here:
* Durability: When compared to steel, aluminum is durable and light weight. While it is difficult to
which is the best from aluminum and stainless steel, aluminum is definitely better than ordinary
steel. So, can be used for outdoor applications and for where water and moisture are present.
* Ductility: Well, this benefit is enjoyed by the Grommet manufacturers. When compared to steel,
aluminum is more ductile, hence easy to roll, processed, and stamped. In other words, aluminum
makes the manufacturing process easy and practical.
* Lightness: The high weight is the top downside of steel grommets. Aluminum, on the other hand;
is three times lighter than steel, making it suitable for applications where weight reduction is
necessary. So, installing 3 aluminum grommets adds the same weight as adding one steel

Abraham Lincoln And The Civil War Essay
Introduction
The Civil War was a war between the union, and confederate states in the United States that
occurred from 1861 1865. Many people believed that the Civil War was about slavery and
southern states right to defend their states rights. The confederates were fighting for their liberty
and independence under the leadership of Abraham Lincoln, who they felt was a tyrant. However,
the union, was fighting to preserve their territory, that was created by their founding fathers from
chaos and dismemberment. President Jefferson Davis believed that the civil war was based on the
confederate rights to secede from the union. Jefferson also felt that Abraham Lincoln was to
blamed for the start of the civil war, since he was against slavery. Lincoln s intended goal was to
preserve the union, he claimed slavery was not the reason. If I could save the union without
freeing any slave I would do it, and if I could save it by freeing all slaves I would do it, and if I
could slave it by freeing some and leaving others alone I would also do that (Shi Tindall, 2015,
pg.465) . Lincoln told everyone that if the southern states were to return to the union that slavery
would still exist. However, many people believed that Lincoln wasn t being truthful.
Geographical Regions
During this time frame The United States consisted of three geographic regions, the north, south,
and the west. There was a lot of competition between these regions, the question of whether slavery

The Effects Of Special Needs On Children
Special needs kids are not sick or gross. They only want to be accepted. They want to feel
normal. They cannot help the way they were born. People who have never dealt with special
needs children do not see what they go through on a daily basis. One out of every 10 children under
the age of 14 has some type of special need. Which includes any medical disability, chronic or life
threatening illness. The children and parents both deal with emotional battles. The parents are
more tired, emotionally and physically than a parent without a special need kid. They feel
alone, because raising a special needs kid is very challenging and takes a lot more effort. They
are scared because they do not know what the future holds. Organizations like CEIP give kids and
parents more hope. They give them something positive to look forward to. The Cumberland Early
Invention Program is a very supportive program. It is good to know there are still non profit
companies out there that are genuinely non profit . The company has served more than 1000
children and their families. There are some moments when the company deals with 40 60 families.
Some companies/programs claim to be non profit but they still have their hand in the cookie jar.
The Cumberland Early Invention Program is actually for people that need help and not for
themselves. The Cumberland Early Invention program current donors and supporters are the

The Writer s Credibility And The Reader s Efficiency
The purpose of substantive editing is to maximize the writer s credibility and the reader s efficiency.
This stage intends to produce a revised manuscript that improves the readability and
understandability of the readers, as well as maintaining the purpose of the text. Editors suggest
appropriate changes according to what the writer wants to accomplish and the intended audience
which determines the content, organization and tone. Thus, the end result of substantive editingis a
balance between the writer s intentions with the readers expectations which in turn serves the text
reliable, accurate and hopefully, useful. Readers respect authors when there is no faulty or missing
information. In order to protect the writer s credibility, editorsconsult subject experts to guarantee
the content is correct and up to date. They keep in mind who the intended audience is (their level
of sophistication, their financial status, their sensitivity towards the topic) so they can determine
what information, which tone, what structure is suitable for them, and still ensure the objectives
of the text are explicit. There will be times when writers forget necessary details that [is needed to
validate] a conclusion (Sutcliffe 583). The lack of content can break a reader s flow: they will not
be prepared to follow the upcoming material. Editors do not want the audience confused because
unpredictability can increase the chances of losing a reader s interest. When there is complete

disorders have symptoms similar to schizophrenia, but not as extreme. Paranoid personality disorder

personality disorder can stem from demanding and distant fathers and over controlling and rejecting
mothers. Genes may also play a factor. Treatment can include teaching anxietyreduction techniques

Real Estate Properties Of Public Records
Property appraisers have many responsibilities including verifying legal descriptions of real
estate properties in public records, inspecting new and existing properties and recording their
unique characteristics. They take pictures of the interior and exterior of properties as well as
analyze similar properties. They then prepare written reports and maintain current data on the
property. Appraisers work in places they are familiar with so they are aware of issues that may
affect the property s value. Appraisers usually value one property at a time and they can often
specialize in certain types of real estate. (Appraisal Careers) Commercial appraisers specialize in
working with income producing property like stores, hotels and office buildings. Residential
appraisers focus on appraising personal property like single family homes and condominiums,
appraising properties of one to four units. When evaluating a property s value, appraisers note the
details of the property and surrounding area, such as a view or noise factor. They also consider the
overall condition of the property, including the foundation and roof. They must determine whether
any renovations have been done. Appraisers photograph the outside of the home and some of the
interior features. This gives them the ability to determine the condition. They compare the property
to other comparable ones by analyzing lease records and previous appraisals. Appraisers record
their findings and observations before

Gonadtrophin Releasing Hormone Research Paper
Gonadtrophin releasing hormone (GnRH) is made in the hypothalamus
GnRH is released into the anterior pituitary gland and here it stimulates the production of follicle
stimulating hormone (FSH) and lutenising hormone (LH).
FSH and LH are able to enter the follicle (a fluid filled cavity that surrounds and protects the
developing egg cell) through the capillaries in the ovaries. The cycle begins when the female sheds
the lining of the uterus in a period. This continues for 3 7 days and GnRH is secreted by the
hypothalamus from the first day of the cycle.
There are countless follicles in the ovaries and only some will mature and only one of these will
ovulate and produce an egg.
FSH will enter the follicles and stimulate maturation of the primary ... Show more content on

A secondary corpus luteum develops
Progesterone is the most important hormone as after ovulation (during the luteal phase)
progesterone levels will increase slowly. This will suppress the GnRH release which in turn will
diminish the release of LH and FSH (these hormones are not required at this stage of the cycle).
Having reached its optimum level Oestrogen will now slowly decline.
The main effect of progesterone is that it stimulates endometrium growth if an egg is implanted
there.
The follicle will continue to produce progesterone to form a placenta which supplies the foetus with
nutrients from the mother.
The decrease in progesterone and oestrogen means the endometrium will shed its lining. This is a
period.
If ovulation does not occur the corpus luteum degenerates to allow a new set of follicles to mature.
All the hormones produced by the corpus luteum will decrease.
Progesterone will decrease during degeneration so it will not be able to inhibit GnRH release so
GnRH levels will rise and this will allow a new cycle to commence as FSH and LH are secreted
into the ovarian capillaries.
This 28 day cycle will now re commence as it is

The Role Of Flappers In The 1920 s
The way everyone presents themselves in the 1920s by dressing as chosen and fashion styles,
people show this by each gender having their own style of clothes. One of the roles for a female
is flappers who are independent females. At night they dressed up to go out to nightclubs in
dresses and high heels and crazy fashion styles. Flappers also changed there hair style to be
different and act out such as Jordan Baker said You ve dyed your hair since then (Fitzgerald 43).
Jordan had no idea who the girl was because she changed her hair so much that she couldn t be
recognized by the guests at Gatsby s party.. This shows how a flapperstyle is over the top with not
staying the same and changing styles a lot. During the age of the flapper, females

The Dehumanization Of Women In Joseph Heller s Catch-22
During the early 1900 s up until recent history, women have been treated through the lenses of
men. Heller s satirical Catch 22 tries to clean this lense, by overly showing the dehumanization
of women. Through sex, and objectification, Heller is able to point out the problems in our own
society. At the end of the novel, Heller contrasts these persistent themes with the men s humanity,
and he is able to make us want change in our society. Through prostitution, and the general use of
women for sex, Heller paints a vivid reflection of society. The maid with the lime panties is one
of Heller s most obvious commentaries. Her entire role in the book is to be of service to the men.
Her allure stemmed from her accessibility; like Mt. Everest, she was there, and the men climbed on
top of her each time they felt the urge. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Besides the objectification that comes with prostitution, Heller finds more clever ways to
subliminally push this on us. Everybody falls in love, it is human nature, but when Nately falls
in love with his acquaintance he is made to look like a fool. People do not really understand how
he could fall in love with someone who to them is an object. Captain Black even pays for sex
with her just out of spite for Nately. At the end of the novel we see that Nately s girlfriend is
more than just an object, and even capable of love. Most readers don t catch this, but Heller
makes her human to show that these women have more to them. The reader only gets a glimpse
of these women, and from the perspective of men at war. Heller makes Nately s girlfriend a
person at the end of the novel to show the reader that behind her job, she is a real person. Another
low key way in which Heller portrays his message is with the use of names. Heller keeps almost
all of the women in Rome nameless because it portrays that they are not

Broken Lives written by Estelle Blackburn is an expository text, which through research has
presented that nineteen year old John Button was wrongfully convicted of killing his seventeen
year old girlfriend Rosemary Anderson in a hit and run. I believe through my reading of Broken

In this case who was guilty of killing Rosemary Anderson in a hit and run, John Button or Eric

one of the reasons behind his hatred to everyone. Through the graphic detail of his nightly

Devil s Knot Essay
On May 6, 1993, three eight year old boys were found savagely murdered in West Memphis
Arkansas. The investigation lacks hard evidence and a suspect, and the police automatically turn
their focus on Satanism. Unfortunately, three teenage boys became the prime suspects: Damien
Echols, Jason Baldwin, and Jessie Misskelley. Because they wore black and listened to hard rock
music, they were outcasts. With nothing but circumstantial evidence mounted upon these teenage
boys, the community lets a Satanic Panic outweigh the facts. All the while, there is more than just
circumstantial evidence that points to one of the victims stepfather, John Mark Byers. He had the
means, motive, and opportunity to commit this heinous crime.

The absence of blood on the bank and lack of mosquito bites on the boys bodies suggest that they
were murdered at another location and simply dumped at the creek. This leads to the speculation
that the boys were with someone that they trusted at another location when they were killed.
Christopher was the only one of the boys that had defensive wounds. This piece of evidence
implies to two things: first, all of the boys were comfortable with their attacker, and second,
Christopher had possibly been abused by the attacker before and knew what was coming (Steel).
This would lead one to believe that Chris was the target.
The police were convinced that they had found their killers in the three teenagers after hearing
and recording Jessie s so called confession to the crime and his tying Damien and Jason to it as
well. Even though alibis were presented by the boys the police ignored them and went ahead
with the arrests. It is rather obvious, that basing the whole case and investigation on the coerced
confession given by Jessie is a seriously flawed decision on the part of the West Memphis police
and brings the credibility of the department into question. Police discovered a knife in the Byers
household belonging to John Mark Byers. Forensics stated that the type of blade on the knife was
the same type used to cut and mutilate the three young boys; yet the blood found on the knife was
never analyzed. When asked about the knife, Byers stated

I will argue that modernist styles including Cubism, Orphism and Futurism did challenge the
practices of traditional representational art. While some may argue that that the fact that modern
styles were concerned with subject gives doubt to how challenging they really were to
representational art I oppose this idea entirely. All art is representational in some way. Rather than a
dismissing the concept of representation in art the modernist styles challenged the validity of the
external representation, which had previously been the foundation of art, by focussing on
conceptual representation.

Initially the search for a new, more truthful pictorial space was found in the introduction of time, the
fourth dimension, into space. Around this time in history the concept that space and time where
interlinked was suggested by Einstein s theory of relativity which destroyed the concept that the
dimensions of an object were absolute, by demonstrating that they depended on the relative position
of the viewer. This abstract concept was portrayed in Cubism through the use of synthesised
impressions of an image or space. As you view an image or object, your impression is not static
but a moving collection of impressions over time. The use of multiple viewpoints aimed to
compress a multiplicity of information gathered from various experiences of an object into one
image.
This innovation of a truer space is most evidently portrayed by the analytic phase of Cubism.
Through the incorporation of the new artistic conventions the fragmentation of form was
developed. The intention was to encompass the entire visual experience of an object into one
image and through this idea an effective technique of breaking up form into planes and facets
which each expressed a sample of visual information. The Cubist works now possessed a shallow
pictorial space due to the abandonment of perspective on which these

The Progression Of Satan In John Milton s Paradise Lost
The Progression of Satan
Paradise Lost is an epic poem written by John Milton other uses this epic poem to depict the
integral scenes, or rather, experiences that lead up to the fall of mankind in the Garden of Eden. In
the Bible, as well as all prominent, and popular religious works; there is a clear distinction as to
who the reader should be cheering for throughout their readings. However, John Milton s Paradise
Lost has turned this concept on its head. Rather than placing the focus onto Adam, Eve, or even
God himself Milton instead chooses to place the main focus on to Satan. The Fallen Angels, and
Satan are meant to be are antagonists within this epic poem. But, do they start out this way?

In an ironic twist satan dressed before Adam, Eve, Jesus, or even God. Once the Palm goes into.
About the beginning of the Fall; will you see Satan and the Fallen Angels have woken up in a
lake of fire. They re bound to the burning Lake, and have been thrown out from heaven due to
their lack of Desire to be under the servitude of God. Without any kind of context it could be
perceived that Satan, the Fallen Angels are victims within this scenario. The act of Satan, and the
Fallen Angels being removed from heaven and falling from grace directly mirrors the fall of Adam
and Eve from the Garden of Eden. It is an interesting point for John Milton to place within Paradise
Lost; as it makes it Satan appear Almost Human. This is a stark contrast compared to most religious
written works.
Even after being defeated, Satan is not deterred from his desire to fight against God, and Heaven.
Satan would go on to let out a speech to the Fallen Angels. He really is his Legion of Fallen
Angels, and persuades them that this fight is not over in this scene, Satan is almost represented as
if he is an underdog. The speech is moving, and even includes slightly manipulated quotes from
other epic works. Again, this is something that seems fitting for someone the reader would be
rooting for.
Satans admiralty continues into Book 2 of Paradise Lost. As the Fallen Angels begin to question
what they should do now; Satan begins a debate among them. Even

Las Meninas Essay
Las Meninas is a painting by Diego Velazquez created in 1656. Diego Velazquez is recognized as
a leading Spanish Golden Age artist and the global attention enjoyed by this painting may be
attributed to his status. It is the enigmatic and complex composition of the Las Meninas that raised
a lot of questions in regards to its illusion and reality and gave rise to a debate about the uncertain
relationships between the figures that were depicted in the paintingand the viewer. Because of these
artistic complexities, the painting has stood out as one of the most analyzed works of art in
Western painting. Since its creation, Las Meninashas earned recognition as one of the most
significant paintings in Western art history. Its representation of painting theology has led to it
being titled a genuine art of philosophy. In recent times, the painting has been described as the
supreme achievement of Diego Velazquez, considering that it came out as a highly calculated, self
conscious demonstration of what art could achieve. Las Meninas is a fascinating painting that

was simply to stand back from his easel to intend to clarify the subject matter. By including this in
his work, Velazquez manages to show the dignity of a painter as an artist. Velazquez not only
contemplates, but also goes ahead and acts. It is his aristocratic pose that reaffirms that the actual

Billy Budd And Invisible Man Essay
There are many ways to interpret a book, one can read it as a character s adventure, a conflict of
ideas or emotions, or a story. For myself, I read the books, Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison and
Billy Budd, Sailor by Herman Melville, in an ironic sense; and while doing this, I noticed that
both books showed an intuitive sense of sociology. Furthermore, what mattered most by reading
the books ironically is that it is easy to see the outcome of a situation which is pleasing to be
conscious of. It is easy to see the outcome of a situation because when one is paying attention to a
character, one s attention is toward a character, except when one s attention is on an entire situation,
one s attention is on the flow of events and then the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are 3 notable examples from Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison that support this observation
directly:
1) The huge chaotic fight between the invisible man evokes this observation. First, for assistance
in recollection, the author focuses on more than one person. The descriptions and choppy
dialogue conveys a sense of confusion because not one person had any idea what was going on.
Despite this, the main character fights then goes on and wins an award even though , I suppose,
this situation which can be classified as madness by Georges Polti should have ended in
contemplation. However, he delivers a speech after the fight and the chapter ends in peace
somehow. I felt I could see the situation unfold just by reading.
Secondly, as a corollary, this case is an example of C1 to C2... CN (Invisible man to everyone else).
Also, it is an example of the classified transition: chaos to order followed by an example of
perception: tolerance of chaos is necessary to reach resolution.
2) The banter from Golden day is to be noted so it can be used as support. It was clear that Mr.
Norton and Invisible man were consumed by the craziness that day. That is probably why the
Invisible man had a hard time taking care of Norton s illness . Another reason is that no one
could see him because Golden day had a lot of bright colors like when looking at a picture of the

After turning the alarm off, Keith held open the door to the left that led to the wide open gym

came on, revealing that the youth room was a disarray of chairs, sports supplies, and, on the
stage , various cords and other audio equipment. Beside the stage was the door I had knocked.
The room smelled faintly like new carpet; it clearly had been renovated recently. The white walls
were decorated with strange pattern of navy blue, lime green, and golden yellow paint streaks,
but the mixture of colors gave the room a welcoming vibe, very pleasant for my first practice.
Then, Karli got out her half size keyboard and Keith his laptop, his even smaller keyboard, and
what appeared to be a drum synthesizer. Meanwhile, Jenna hooked up the vocal system up to the
audio mixer beside Keith. While they set up their equipment, I set down my equipment beside a
dusty, full sized keyboard. In a search for an outlet to plug my amp into, my eyes darted around the
room for a few moments, which thankfully led Keith to reveal a compartment in the floor that
housed a set of outlets.
When the band s instruments were ready, Karli, Keith and Jenna made sure they all had the same
sheet music, some of which I was sure I lacked, but they did not ask me right away. Instead, Karli

Sociology Of Violence
Aggression and war typically are not seen in various forms. One could argue that war is not
always where violent acts are seen, in the sense of cold wars, so it is can also be said to be a stage
for aggressive, rather than violent, acts. However, violence has multiple variations including:
mental violence, symbolic violence, and lastly as studied, political violence, that cultural
anthropologists have significantly improved the understanding of. Before delving into the different
categories of violence, it is important to understand that the uses of violence also vary. When
examining violence, it is crucial to discern the action from the perspective of the perpetrator.

Yet, violence does not need to be a physical act, it can also be mental or symbolic. This is
someone s ability to maintain a permanent hold on another person based on economic or
practical commitments. (Hansen, 369) Many scholars will find this does not classify being
labeled as violence. However, symbolic violence is something that is consistently seen in states.
Symbolic violence is an important tool commonly used by states in the ordering of relationships
of superiors and inferiors. States are able to justify their infliction of terror by saying their own
actions are just a reaction to the symbolic violence that is implicit in opposition. (Nagengast, 111)
This is where we begin to see the topic of political violence finally discussed. First and foremost, it
is important to clarify that political violence may or may not be direct violence. (Nagengast, 114) A
state may take actions such as limiting food sent to poorer people, hurting their chances of survival
without actually physically hurting them. State violence can be referred to by using the term terror.

Essay on The Allegory of the Cave
In Plato s Republic, the great philosopher describes what is needed to achieve a perfect society.
He addresses several subjects still debated in today s society, such as justice, gender roles, and
the proper form of education. He discusses these issues through his main character, Socrates.
Socrates, another well known philosopher for his time, happens upon a group of men, and what
begins as a modest question, leads into a series of debates, metaphors, and allegories. Perhaps the
most discussed allegory in today s popular culture is the Allegory of the Cave. Over the past
decade, several movies have mimicked the fantasy, the most profitable being the Matrix Trilogy.

Since these are the only beings they are aware of, the sounds made by the people are also assumed
to come from the shadows. Socrates summarizes their belief system stating, such men would hold
that the truth is nothing other than the shadows of artificial things, (Book VII, 515c).
After describing the setting of the cave, Socrates asks his audience to imagine that one of the
prisoners breaks free from his bonds, and sees the fire and the statues themselves. He notes that
there would first come pain as his eyes adjust to the new light, and disbelief, as everything he had
previously thought to be real is suddenly proven artificial. However, Socrates assures his audience
that the man would eventually come to realize that the people and the fire are more real than the
shadows had ever been. He would ultimately grasp how the fire creates the shadows of the statues,
creating a mere copy of the real thing. He would then conclude that the fire and the statues are the
most real things in the world.
Though the man would then seem to be educated, Socrates takes the fantasy farther by dragging
the freed prisoner out of the cave and into the actual world. At first, the man s eyes would dart from
the brightness of the sun, and watch only shadows. Eventually, his eyes would allow him to look at
reflections and finally at the actual objects themselves. He then realizes that the trees, flowers,
houses, rocks, and animals he

covertness behind the government. And by now, almost every American citizen knows that privacy

look toward the government as salvation, protection, and reliance. Unfortunately, not everything is

Sometimes the government is not always our solution; they can also be our problems.

main purpose is to conduct a range of surveillance activities inside the United States in search for

Theme Of Hospitality In Beowulf
By demonstrating how the benign exchange of hospitality changes into a vicious cycle of
assault and retaliation and how it ultimately leads to tragedy, Beowulf makes a point about the
limits of hospitality, whereby nothing short of death can end the cycle of obligation. The world
of Beowulf is constructed upon the rules of hospitality and requisites of reciprocity. As Marcel
Mauss asserts, there are no free gifts. Regardless of time and place, a gift of any sort obliges a
person to reciprocate the present that has been received (Mauss 9). While it might appear so,
Beowulfs arrival at the shores of Denmark to proffer his help to Hrothgar to kill the monsters is
not a simple act of selflessness. He partakes in a system of exchange that underlies... Show more

Heardred s mistake in offering hospitality to the sons of Ohthere results in him being mortally
rewarded with wounds from a sword (2386). Onela s treatment of Heardred s hospitality as
treachery results in a cruel parody of hospitable exchange: a fatal sequence of assault and
revenge. The fate of Heardred also serves to reaffirm that hospitality in this poem can never
wholly seal itself from treachery and peril. Later on, in his report to King Hygelac after
returning to Geatland, Beowulf speaks of how Hrothgar attempts to make peace between the
Danes and Heathobards by marrying his daughter Freawaru to Ingel. In spite of the feud between
the two sides, the Heathobards are obliged to host and entertain the Danes since a Danish princess
is marrying the Heathobard king. But as Beowulf mentions, the spear / is prompt to retaliate when
a prince is killed (2029 30). Paradoxically, the system of reciprocity here becomes a source of both
Heathobards hospitality (as host) as much as their desire to retaliate against the Danes. Ultimately,
the force of grievances outweighs the bond established through the offering of the bride as a gift: a
guest who wears the heirloom snatched from the host s father has betrayed hospitality, which
invites retaliation from the host. This suggests the limitations of hospitality as a principle of socio

She had an obligation to conduct such research, which could have been by starting further dialogue

the scars on Oedipus s ankles and his limp were sufficient evidence to put the responsibility on

marriage that results. The fact that Oedipus s appearance resembled that of Jocastas first husband,

amp;#8220;Digging ; is about a person looking out of a window at their Father digging, describing
what he/she sees and then the poem goes on to describe what he/she feels.
I believe that the narrative voice in the poem is in fact that of Seamus Heaney. There are a number
of clues that lead me to this conclusion. The first and most obvious one is in the first line,
amp;#8216;Between my finger and my thumb. amp;#8217;
The poet writes in the first person throughout the poem. He writes about his Father and his
Grandfather and he seems to move from describing his Father to describing his Grandfather. He
does this so smoothly that the reader harldy notices the transition that took place. The second clue
is slightly more hidden. The poet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That line also paints an image in the readers mind of the spade sinking in and the scratching/rasping
sound it makes. An example of how the author does the same thing only with the sense touch is,
amp;#8216;The coarse boot nestled on the lug, the shaft Against the inside knee was levered
firmly. amp;#8217; In this case the second line emphasizes the first. It does this by using the words
levered and firmly they make the whole phrase seem more realistic.
However the best possible example of this is when the poet uses two senses to emphasize sight
amp;#8216;The cold smell of potatoe mould, the squelch and slap Of soggy peat, the curt cuts of
an edge. amp;#8217;
These two lines not only include two senses but one of the senses uses two onomatopoeic words;
squelch and slap. These two words suggest someone moving through thick soggy mud for some
reason it also suggests to me that it was on a cold day.
In my opinion that line is also quite interesting to read because it paints a clear picture in my
mind amp;#8217;s eye of someone toiling and sloshing around in the mud. I think this is because
the poet uses words like; soggy, curt, cuts and edge. Since those words are sharp words they make
the phrase clearer and sharper in my mind amp;#8217;s eye.
I think the poet amp;#8217;s attitute to work is that of a perfectionist. I get this impression
because of how picky he is about describing the way his Father and

Sleepy Hollow Comparison Essay
The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is short story of speculative fiction written by Washington Irving,
published in 1820. It follows the journey of Ichabod Crane and Brom Bones in their attempt to
win over Katrina Van Tassel. Many adaptions have been made of Irving s original story with one
of the most known being Sleepy Hollowa 1999 American horror film directed by Tim Burton. The
movie follows a different but similar plot to the original story with the murders of the headless
horseman being the main focus of the movie. In both versions it can be clearly seen how the setting
has a huge impact on all aspects of the book and film particularly the themes, values and

One of the main values looked at in Irving s short story is the difference between the natural and
supernatural. There is a huge contrast throughout the story of this and this mainly has to do with
the setting. Irving looks at the natural setting of Sleepy Hollow compared to the supernatural
thoughts of the residents. ... Or tapping of a woodpecker, is almost the only sound that every
breaks in upon the uniform of tranquillity. (Irving, 1820) and ... That holds a spell over the minds
of the good people. (Irving, 1820) are both two quotes that show the contrast between the natural
and supernatural. With out both aspects it would change dramatically the setting, characters and
plot of the story. Similarly to the themes in Burton s adaption of Sleepy Hollow the values are
much darker and eerie compared with those in Irving s original. One thing both versions have in
common is the value of the difference between supernatural and natural. Although it is looked at in
a different way Burton still has it reoccurring throughout the film. In the film the whole idea and the
actually reality of the headless horseman is all very supernatural and not very realistic although the
rest of the movie has more of a natural feel to it. The setting is used to show the supernatural and
natural values, as without the particular atmosphere that Burton has created it would not come

Leadership Styles In Nursing Leadership Style
Leadership comes in many forms, and some think that leaders are made rather than born
(Amanchukwu, Stanley, Ololube, 2015). Problems are constantly arising in the nursing setting
and must require a certain skill set in order for leaders to conquer these issues. In the past papers,
nurse Stacie lacked the resources of a good leader to guide her towards her own leadershipstyle.
During her day as a charge nurse, Stacie allowed a more experienced nurse who was ranked
below her that day, to overpower her authority. Consequently, a baby died because Stacie did not
intervene when the situation presented itself. However, if Stacie had a strong leader supporting
her, she may have acquired the skills to speak up and exert her own leadership skills, while
addressing the unfortunate issue in her unit. This paper will compare relevant leadership styles that
will address this problem that Stacie incurred. Along with a detailed explanation of how this style
of leadership could help solve this nursing problem. Furthermore, legislation and health care policies
will further the cause with tools to help solve and manage problems seen in the hospital setting.
Nursing Leadership Styles Although there are numerous leadership styles to explore when
discussing the issue Stacie had to deal with in her unit, the style that addresses this type of issue
the closest is the Servant Leader. This type of leadership is the least conspicuous as they act like a
servant to their followers.

Thomas Hobbes Dbq
Thomas Hobbes was born in 1588 in England. Hobbes survived through the English
Revolutionary era, and his perspective of human nature built up negatively. He believed that all
men were innately bad and evil. Hobbes stated, ... yet they will hardly believe there be many so
wise as themselves (Hobbes 1). This quote shows his thought, that all men are selfish and they
always think they are better than anyone. Hobbes believed that humans didn t know how to

When I learned that my family and I would be going to Hawaii, I looked forward to going to the
beach, sightseeing, and the warm weather. I never knew that this vacation would end up
teaching me valuable life lessons. It was the summer of 2014 when I went to Hawaii, and I was so
excited because I love traveling and I had always wanted to go there. There is a six hour time
difference which was hard to get used to because we ended up landing in Hawaiiat what would
have been four in the morning in Ohio. Before we landed in Hawaii, the vacation did not start off
very well.
When we arrived at the airport in Los Angeles for our connecting flight, we were kept on the plane
for almost an hour, even though our layover was only forty five minutes. We knew we did not
have much time anyways; but after the delay, we thought we would miss the only flight to
Hawaii that night. When we were finally able to get off the plane, a girl around the age of
twenty five who was on the flight was yelling at everyone and trying to push everyone out of the
way so she could get out first. She ended up getting off the plane before us even though she was
sitting in the very back. Because of this, we could not find my brother when we got into the
airport. However, the airport security workers were telling us to just run to the gate. At the gate, we
found my brother who was already there talking to the flight attendant. They ended up having to
delay the flight to let us on. I was surprised

Two weeks, since the passing of Mr.Wayne, and the heartbroken atmosphere, is the aftermath of
Mr. Wayne s absence(VACANCY). I walk into my newly inherited office, I sat down at
Mr.Wayne s former desk. The desk is beautiful, the craftsmanship is extraordinary. The desk is a
replica of the one created from the timbers of the British H.M.S. Resolute, given to the United
States President Rutherford Hayes in the late 1800 s by Queen Victoria, and has been used by
most American head of states since(OBJECT). I started to look through the drawers of the desk,
and I discover an envelope with a red wax seal with the letter W imprinted on the seal.
Meanwhile, as I am staring at the envelope in my small callused hands, I decide to break the
seal(HANDS). Inside the envelope, was a letter, and it was addressed to me. Next I realize that
Mr.Wayne has left a letter for me. Subsequently, I began to read into the

to head towards the door, and as I reach for it and swung it out open to see Rebecca, my secretary

There was also need to remove that very Victorian phrase of outraging the modesty of a woman in Section 354 and replacing it with violating the bodily integrity of the woman , which allows for a graded recognition of non penetrative types of sexual assault. There was need too for expansion the scope of Section 509 in the Bill to include acts and behaviour, which do not engage physical contact but is proposed to harass or insult or humiliate women, with or without sexual mean. Incidents like sexual harassment including sexual harassment at work places, blackmailing, annoyance including cyber stalking, stripping, tonsuring, etc., which are presently ... • 6. Abraham Lincoln And The Civil War Essay Introduction The Civil War was a war between the union, and confederate states in the United States that occurred from 1861 1865. Many people believed that the Civil War was about slavery and southern states right to defend their states rights. The confederates were fighting for their liberty and independence under the leadership of Abraham Lincoln, who they felt was a tyrant. However, the union, was fighting to preserve their territory, that was created by their founding fathers from chaos and dismemberment. President Jefferson Davis believed that the civil war was based on the confederate rights to secede from the union. Jefferson also felt that Abraham Lincoln was to blamed for the start of the civil war, since he was against slavery. Lincoln s intended goal was to preserve the union, he claimed slavery was not the reason. If I could save the union without freeing any slave I would do it, and if I could save it by freeing all slaves I would do it, and if I could slave it by freeing some and leaving others alone I would also do that (Shi Tindall, 2015, pg.465) . Lincoln told everyone that if the southern states were to return to the union that slavery would still exist. However, many people believed that Lincoln wasn t being truthful. • 9. The Writer s Credibility And The Reader s Efficiency The purpose of substantive editing is to maximize the writer s credibility and the reader s efficiency. This stage intends to produce a revised manuscript that improves the readability and understandability of the readers, as well as maintaining the purpose of the text. Editors suggest appropriate changes according to what the writer wants to accomplish and the intended audience which determines the content, organization and tone. Thus, the end result of substantive editingis a balance between the writer s intentions with the readers expectations which in turn serves the text reliable, accurate and hopefully, useful. Readers respect authors when there is no faulty or missing information. In order to protect the writer s credibility, editorsconsult subject experts to guarantee the content is correct and up to date. They keep in mind who the intended audience is (their level of sophistication, their financial status, their sensitivity towards the topic) so they can determine what information, which tone, what structure is suitable for them, and still ensure the objectives of the text are explicit. There will be times when writers forget necessary details that [is needed to validate] a conclusion (Sutcliffe 583). Gonadtrophin Releasing Hormone Research Paper Gonadtrophin releasing hormone (GnRH) is made in the hypothalamus GnRH is released into the anterior pituitary gland and here it stimulates the production of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and lutenising hormone (LH). FSH and LH are able to enter the follicle (a fluid filled cavity that surrounds and protects the developing egg cell) through the capillaries in the ovaries. The cycle begins when the female sheds the lining of the uterus in a period. This continues for 3 7 days and GnRH is secreted by the hypothalamus from the first day of the cycle. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A secondary corpus luteum develops Progesterone is the most important hormone as after ovulation (during the luteal phase) progesterone levels will increase slowly. This will suppress the GnRH release which in turn will diminish the release of LH and FSH (these hormones are not required at this stage of the cycle). Having reached its optimum level Oestrogen will now slowly decline. The main effect of progesterone is that it stimulates endometrium growth if an egg is implanted there. The follicle will continue to produce progesterone to form a placenta which supplies the foetus with nutrients from the mother. The decrease in progesterone and oestrogen means the endometrium will shed its lining. This is a period. If ovulation does not occur the corpus luteum degenerates to allow a new set of follicles to mature. All the hormones produced by the corpus luteum will decrease. Progesterone will decrease during degeneration so it will not be able to inhibit GnRH release so GnRH levels will rise and this will allow a new cycle to commence as FSH and LH are secreted into the ovarian capillaries. This 28 day cycle will now re commence as it is

  • 18. The Dehumanization Of Women In Joseph Heller s Catch-22 During the early 1900 s up until recent history, women have been treated through the lenses of men. Heller s satirical Catch 22 tries to clean this lense, by overly showing the dehumanization of women. Through sex, and objectification, Heller is able to point out the problems in our own society. At the end of the novel, Heller contrasts these persistent themes with the men s humanity, and he is able to make us want change in our society. Through prostitution, and the general use of women for sex, Heller paints a vivid reflection of society. The maid with the lime panties is one of Heller s most obvious commentaries. Her entire role in the book is to be of service to the men. Her allure stemmed from her accessibility; like Mt. This piece of evidence implies to two things: first, all of the boys were comfortable with their attacker, and second, Christopher had possibly been abused by the attacker before and knew what was coming (Steel). Even after being defeated, Satan is not deterred from his desire to fight against God, and Heaven. Satan would go on to let out a speech to the Fallen Angels. He really is his Legion of Fallen Angels, and persuades them that this fight is not over in this scene, Satan is almost represented as if he is an underdog. The speech is moving, and even includes slightly manipulated quotes from other epic works. Again, this is something that seems fitting for someone the reader would be rooting for. Satans admiralty continues into Book 2 of Paradise Lost. As the Fallen Angels begin to question what they should do now; Satan begins a debate among them. Even ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. Billy Budd And Invisible Man Essay There are many ways to interpret a book, one can read it as a character s adventure, a conflict of ideas or emotions, or a story. For myself, I read the books, Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison and Billy Budd, Sailor by Herman Melville, in an ironic sense; and while doing this, I noticed that both books showed an intuitive sense of sociology. Furthermore, what mattered most by reading the books ironically is that it is easy to see the outcome of a situation which is pleasing to be conscious of. It is easy to see the outcome of a situation because when one is paying attention to a character, one s attention is toward a character, except when one s attention is on an entire situation, one s attention is on the flow of events and then the... Beside the stage was the door I had knocked. The room smelled faintly like new carpet; it clearly had been renovated recently. Socrates, another well known philosopher for his time, happens upon a group of men, and what begins as a modest question, leads into a series of debates, metaphors, and allegories. Socrates summarizes their belief system stating, such men would hold that the truth is nothing other than the shadows of artificial things, (Book VII, 515c). After describing the setting of the cave, Socrates asks his audience to imagine that one of the prisoners breaks free from his bonds, and sees the fire and the statues themselves. He notes that there would first come pain as his eyes adjust to the new light, and disbelief, as everything he had previously thought to be real is suddenly proven artificial. However, Socrates assures his audience that the man would eventually come to realize that the people and the fire are more real than the shadows had ever been. He would ultimately grasp how the fire creates the shadows of the statues, creating a mere copy of the real thing. He would then conclude that the fire and the statues are the most real things in the world. Though the man would then seem to be educated, Socrates takes the fantasy farther by dragging the freed prisoner out of the cave and into the actual world. At first, the man s eyes would dart from the brightness of the sun, and watch only shadows. Eventually, his eyes would allow him to look at reflections and finally at the actual objects themselves. • 35. Theme Of Hospitality In Beowulf By demonstrating how the benign exchange of hospitality changes into a vicious cycle of assault and retaliation and how it ultimately leads to tragedy, Beowulf makes a point about the limits of hospitality, whereby nothing short of death can end the cycle of obligation. The world of Beowulf is constructed upon the rules of hospitality and requisites of reciprocity. As Marcel Mauss asserts, there are no free gifts. Regardless of time and place, a gift of any sort obliges a person to reciprocate the present that has been received (Mauss 9). While it might appear so, Beowulfs arrival at the shores of Denmark to proffer his help to Hrothgar to kill the monsters is not a simple act of selflessness. Heardred s mistake in offering hospitality to the sons of Ohthere results in him being mortally rewarded with wounds from a sword (2386). Onela s treatment of Heardred s hospitality as treachery results in a cruel parody of hospitable exchange: a fatal sequence of assault and revenge. The fate of Heardred also serves to reaffirm that hospitality in this poem can never wholly seal itself from treachery and peril. Later on, in his report to King Hygelac after returning to Geatland, Beowulf speaks of how Hrothgar attempts to make peace between the Danes and Heathobards by marrying his daughter Freawaru to Ingel. In spite of the feud between the two sides, the Heathobards are obliged to host and entertain the Danes since a Danish princess is marrying the Heathobard king. But as Beowulf mentions, the spear / is prompt to retaliate when a prince is killed (2029 30). Paradoxically, the system of reciprocity here becomes a source of both Heathobards hospitality (as host) as much as their desire to retaliate against the Danes. Ultimately, the force of grievances outweighs the bond established through the offering of the bride as a gift: a guest who wears the heirloom snatched from the host s father has betrayed hospitality, which invites retaliation from the host. I believe that the narrative voice in the poem is in fact that of Seamus Heaney. There are a number of clues that lead me to this conclusion. The first and most obvious one is in the first line, amp;#8216;Between my finger and my thumb. amp;#8217; The poet writes in the first person throughout the poem. However the best possible example of this is when the poet uses two senses to emphasize sight amp;#8216;The cold smell of potatoe mould, the squelch and slap Of soggy peat, the curt cuts of an edge. amp;#8217; These two lines not only include two senses but one of the senses uses two onomatopoeic words; squelch and slap. In my opinion that line is also quite interesting to read because it paints a clear picture in my mind amp;#8217;s eye of someone toiling and sloshing around in the mud. I think this is because the poet uses words like; soggy, curt, cuts and edge. Since those words are sharp words they make the phrase clearer and sharper in my mind amp;#8217;s eye. In the past papers, nurse Stacie lacked the resources of a good leader to guide her towards her own leadershipstyle.
