Eventually John, the second youngest at 15, asks his mother why his dad is crying. Joan then
tells him the truth, and talk of the separation triggers various reactions from each child. John
becomes more belligerent and expects answers of what went wrong and becomes frustrated.
Margaret, the youngest of the children, is relieved to hear the news out loud to release her
growing inner suspicion of her parents. After dinner Joan lectures Richard for crying at the
table seemed to make it look like the divorce is her fault. The reader realizes that Richard has had
an affair. Dickie who is 17, is out with friends at a concert, and is the last child to get the news.
Richard struggles to tell him, and when Dickie who is stunned asks for a reason, that moment
Richard seems to forget why he is really separating from his family in the first place.
Throughout the short story, it becomes noticeable that Richard, the main character and narrator, is
at odds with his emotions and become heavier. Not only does he find it difficult to tell the
children about the separation, but as he is working on finishing tasks around the home before he

The Negative Effects Of Racial Profiling
Racial Profiling The Amin brothers, Ahmad and Hassan, were normal young adults like you and
I. They lived in Pakistan for only a short period of their lives and moved to the US at a young
age. Their mother, Tahira Manzur had high hopes that they will become permanent, working,
residents of the US. Unfortunately, the Immigration and Naturalization Service, or INS for
short, had suspicions that the young men had correlations to a 9/11 terrorist attack. Hassan was
arrested and stayed at Yuba county jail overnight until a 4,000$ bail freed him and his younger
brother ,Ahamad, missed school every wednesday and had to check in with the INS Offices. In
the process, they were in the fight against being deported for 5 tiring years along with rigorous
court dates all because of assumptions to terrorism. (Racial Profiling since 9/11). Part of their
young lives was striped from them. Racial profiling can and has had a detrimental effect on
many lives like the Amin brothers. What does the INS do? Their main job is to regulate
immigrants who come into the country and if their transmission is legal. Racial profiling is
used, mainly in law enforcement, to target people based off of stereotypes of their race,
ethnicity, religion, or origin if they are suspected to be part of a criminal action. It has been
around since the 1800 s but a recent event also revealed it was used as well when Japanese
immigrants wanted to move to the US but were denied access because of distrust from the result

The Wrongful Representation Of Africa In Western Film
Your sitting in front of the Television watching the season finale of your favorite show, it goes to
a commercial break and instead of getting up to refill the snack bowl you stay. In the arms of an
Angel by Sarah McLachlan begins to pay and the screens is covered by videos and pictures of
starving kids in Africa; Softly, an emphatic voice begins to talk about why you should donate to
their nonprofit organization. Guilt swells in you and you feel an urgent pull to help those in need
especially if your finically capable. Surprisingly, the media portraying Africa incorrectly happens
all the time. Africa and it s citizens are a country wrongly painted to be largely poor, broke, and
ultimately a third world continent y in western media. The wrongful representation of Africa through

In the beginning of filming when directors wanted to portray a black character directors would
have white actors in black face. The role the actor was playing while in black face would often
playing characters who had negative characteristics and personality. This is equivalent to what
Hollywood films are doing to the continent of Africa, highlighting every negative aspect about
her but not bringing to light everything beautiful about it. Rochelle Burgess writes how she was
bought to tears after watching only one half of Adam Brace s play They Drink It in the congo,
in the play she writes that Black men were portrayed as violent and full of rage and as sexual
predators, and black women were portrayed as victims and silent workhorses. The congo was
portrayed as a broken country to which white leads in the play were trying to help improve their
living conditions, she then continues to say I watched as black characters were used to prop up
the self exploration of white leads. Plays and films like these help to prop up the illegitimate
disgraced picture of Africa that most Americans believe is

Groan Group Observation
Through the observation, I hardly saw any progression through the Groan Zone and I assume that is
because this group has been meeting once a week for about 10 years and while they may face
misunderstanding or miscommunication they have worked though enough of it that they have a
solid foundation of shared understanding and the collective thought processes of their teammates.
The groupdid in fact progress through the Divergent and Convergent Zones. At some points, they
seemed to work through both zones at the same time. For example, while generating a list of ideas
they made sure to summarize the key points of their ideas. After this step they not only looked for
the conflicting issues between their ideas but they could come to agreement on which brainstormed
ideas would work and which ones were forgettable. Finally, the last point that they processed
through was exercising judgment. This process was interesting to observe. First off, it was difficult
to observe and not comment on their ideas and secondly, I could notice the sensitivity when giving
the judgment. No one wanted to sound harsh when giving their feedback. Which I found was a
smart option since they work together daily.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, I noticed the paraphrasing that was done by the facilitator. If anything, this was one of the
most used techniques. I think it was the dominate approach because she could create a new
conversation through paraphrasing and it stopped her from giving her input, while also giving her
clarification on an idea she might have been questionable about. Secondly, I noticed the facilitator
using the drawing out method. She realized my director was being silent and she managed to draw
her out and add her into the discussion

Sociological Imagination Papers
Aubrey Suri SOC210 003
The Sociological Imagination To see one s self as more than just a person, but as a blade of
grass in a field is to have a sociological imagination. One person being able to factor in current
history and society norms as well as the conditions being placed on them(such as location and
culture) at any given moment posses a wider perspective than a normal person and is able to view
the world sociologically. The sociological imaginationcan be described as a capacity for viewing
the world through multiple broad perspectives or in C. Wright Mills The Promise of Sociology he
defins it as the vivid awareness of the relationship between experience and the wider society.

For me my biggest influences have been my family. Naturally they are the people i spend the
most time with and enjoy doing so. I admire something in everyone of my siblings and parents
and can see what i have attained from them pretty clearly. From my brothers I have my music
taste and odd sense of humor, from my mother my passive aggressive under tones but strong
belief in self discipline, and from my father a subtle belief in religion without active practice.
Other things have also shaped me such as growing up in a decently wealthy town with a familiar
atmosphere, but traveling often and enjoying other cultures i can take into account different
views and a more worldly perspective on things. Politics have also shaped my life even though I
am not active in them, but because of the company I keep. Due to the recent election tension has
been created between many of my friends and has caused conflict because of opposing views.
Many other things account for the way i am and the way i live my life but there are too many to

On April 4, 1968, James Earl Ray parked his white Mustang on South Main around 4:00 pm. He
rented a room under an assumed name on the second floor of a rooming house, which was
located above a bar grille. The room gave him a view of the hotel that Dr. Martin Luther King
was lodging at. Later, James Earl Ray purchased a pair of binoculars and return to his room.
Shortly, after around 6:00 pm, Dr. King was shot and killed on the balcony of the Lorraine Motel
from a 30.06 rifle. Afterward, a bundle was found containing the rifle with a scope, a cartridge in
the chamber and unfired ammunition, in which the fingerprints belongs to James Earl Ray. At the

Reflective Role As A Senior Support Worker
My role as senior support worker is to work alongside management to provide an effective
service to vulnerable adults with mental health living in the community; it is important to offer
professional leadership and positive team work skills. At the beginning of my employment as a
senior support worker in mental health there was minimal knowledge and experience in
supporting vulnerable adults within this specific area, however CQC fundamental standards
which everyone in health and social care can expect remain transferable. Please find attached an
example of how the remaining 12 fundamental standards have also been expressed throughout
my experience as senior support worker whilst evidence is shown on a day to day basis. As my
previous role was a team leader it was essential that the skills learnt previously were carried into
my new role and enhanced to be able to provide the best service possible. Person centred care is
vital to providing support to suit an individual s needs; I have implemented this when doing the into
care plans, I sat with citizens to go through their support package which can increase the
understanding of a citizens involvement in their support so that their needs are met; additionally as
a senior a person centred approach is also used when supporting staff with their professional
development, it is about the inclusion of staff to meet their targets and aims making them
appropriate and realistic to the individual. Once this technique is embedding into

London During The Industrial Revolution
London, the capital of the Industrial Revolution in the 1750s, created textile factories that
increased the demand for labor, urbanization, population and food supply. This led to a migration
of people into the cities and away from rural areas to look for work. At this time, London had a
laissez faire economic system where the government did not interfere with private property meaning
that it was free from regulation. Therefore, private slaughterhouses were all around the city to
provide people with fresh meatand for butchers to make a profit. But, slaughtering in London had
negative consequences like the smell and traffic congestion causing hazards to the public leading
reformers to demand government regulation. In Maclachan s article, The... Show more content on

One of the state s first actions was replacing Smithfield Market in 1855 with the Metropolitan
Cattle Market in the suburbs where it can connect to railway transportations. This proved a relief
from traffic congestion in the city with the use of railways that opened a gateway to an increase in
country killed meat as opposed to meat from livestock slaughtered in London. This gradual increase
in country killed meat was malignant to the butcher s business because it meant less livestock
would be slaughtered in the city and less profit. Also, the government realized that public health
regulation is needed to protect the people from meat not inspected that could cause fatal diseases
because the state is responsible for securing the well being of its people. Hence, the state passed the
Buildings Act (1844) and the Metropolis Act (1873) giving power to the state to regulate the
slaughtering process and monitor the waste disposal from slaughtering. Thus, after these state
actions the relationship between the food and the state is gradually converging under the control of
the government. These regulations almost caused the extinction of private slaughterhouses because
there was a decrease in private slaughterhouses from 1,500 in 1873 to 455 in 1897. But, the
butchers did not give up

Walt Whitney Descriptive Writing
The sound of Whitney s voice sing filled the camp with joy and positivity. For the first time in five

trying to get his glasses out of the water, his attempt failed. It was sad to see but he stayed positive.
Madison and Ava were today s leaders. We had a five mile hike to go, trekking through enormous

Aristotle’s Nicomachean Ethics Essay example
In Book 1 of Aristotle s Nicomachean Ethics, he argues that happiness is the best good, and the
goal of an individual and of those leading and governing society. Here, happiness is understood as
both living well and doing well, rather than the convention sense of happiness as an emotion.
According to Aristotle, happiness is achieved though actions involving reason and in accord with
virtue, or the best of the virtues of there are more than one. In this paper, I will provide a brief
overview of the work and its author, then proceed to provide an overview of the ideas expressed
and the argumentation supporting them, before finally performing an analysis and critique of the
ideas expressed.

In Book 1, he defines the best and most sought after human good as happiness. After discussing
and reinforcing his concept of happiness as the most desired and best good, and the goal of a
human life, the discussion segues into an examination of virtue and the rest of the work.
Throughout this Book 1, the discussion digresses multiple times to explore the method by
which the topic will be examined. Realising that concepts such as happiness are subjective, he
establishes in the third Chapter that the fruits of the discussion will be satisfactory so long as it
holds true universally. He also considers in Chapter four whether the discussion should originate
from the principles, or from our experiences, and suggests that we should being from things
known and immediate to us, which seems to be a logical choice as the discussions as a whole
focus on what a man should do in order to act according to virtue in order to become good and
attain happiness. In addition, the sixth Chapter is devoted to criticism of the theory of Forms.
Since good can exist in so many different ways, but are undoubtedly good, Aristotle argues that
there is no common idea governing it. He also denies the existence of separate Forms that are
merely mimicked by what we perceive, since a thing and the Thing Itself has the same

Theme Of Nature In Thoreau
discards the language of obedience and redemption used by the church. To Thoreau, Nature and
God are at once synonymous and interconnected: Next to us the grandest laws are continually
being executed. Next to us is not the workman we have hired, with whom we love so well to
talk, but the workman whose work we are. (175) Thoreau believes in a creator god, a living god
that makes of Nature his home. Thoreau feels Nature is a divine space: a space where man is
able to feel close to his god, a space where man is able to appreciate his god s favors and Nature is
the space where man can embrace the god within himself. Influenced by Emerson, Coleridge and
Wordsworth, among others, Thoreau thinks that nature is the source of strength, spirituality... Show

One would approach at first warily through the shrub oaks, running over the snow crust by fits
and starts like a leaf blown by the wind, now a few paces this way, with wonderful speed and
waste of energy, making inconceivable haste with his trotters, as if it were for a wager, and now
as many paces that way, but never getting on more than half a rod at a time; and then suddenly
pausing with a ludicrous expression and a gratuitous somerset, as if all the eyes in the universe
were eyed on him for all the motions of a squirrel, even in the most solitary recesses of the forest,

circumspection than would have sufficed to walk the whole distance I never saw one walk and

winding up his clock and chiding all imaginary spectators, soliloquizing and talking to all the
universe at the same time for no reason that I could ever detect, or he himself was aware of, I
suspect (357). Concurrently, Thoreau projects an image of nature as a whole, as a distinct, living
and essential presence rather than as an accumulation of items to which man assigns significance.
The interconnectedness of the various components of nature is illustrated in this passage of

Chinese Immigrant Community Analysis
Immigrant communities as well as the mainstream society can come together, to change policies
as well as create social services that cater to immigrant and newcomer needs, (Guo, 2008, p. 260).
Guo was referring to the success of an Chinese immigrant based organization called SUCCESS,
Vancouver. SUCCESS was created by both the Chinese Immigrant community, and mainstream
society to address an issue regarding the lack of social service agencies, and the failed responses
from the governmentto recently arrived Chinese immigrants in 1973 (Guo, 2008, p. 265).

barriers (cultural, informational) compared the Canadian born in accessing services that will

How Does Hamlet React To Uncertainty
In William Shakespeare s play, Hamlet , he communicates that people react to certainty and
uncertainty in different ways. Not only can it affect the people around them, but it can affect their
own lives as well. For some people, the doubt could get to their head and cause an anxious
response where it could lead to a destructive path for themselves and can really hurt the people they
care about most. This is evident with Hamlet, when his father dies and his ghost tells Hamlet that
Claudius was the one who murdered him. Hamlet became uncertain if the ghost was actually his
father s or an evil spirit. However, this leads him to find out if Claudius really was the murderer
which in turn lead to the death of Polonius and eventually Laertes. While Claudius was fake
praying, Hamlet was uncertain if he should killthe new king right there as he thought he may go to
hell for killing someone, which eventually stopped him from going through with it. When he went
to see his own mother, Polonius was hiding. but when he calls out for help, Hamlet accidentally
killed him. After the death of Polonius, Laertes made his way back to get revenge for his father
who he thought was killed by the king. During this destructive path, Hamlet had sent a letter to
England pretending to be the king to get his two best friends killed after being betrayed by them.
Finally, they get to the duel and with uncertaintyagain, kills Laertes with a poisoned rapier before

10 Things I Hate About You Comparison
The two movies that are similar and have the same type of genre, dealing with relationships are 10
Things I Hate About You and The Taming of the Shrew . These movies are the same, yet so
different from one another. Both plots are about love and relationships, that s why 10 Things I Hate
About You is based on the same concept as The Taming of the Shrew
. One of the main differences
is the time period, throughout the year s lot of views on things start to change. The idea of
marriage and relationships are very different from back then to today. For example, in The Taming
of the Shrew , Petruchio was only marrying Katherine because her father had given him money.
This clearly shows that he wanted nothing to do with her, but since there was money involved he
went along with it. In 10 things... Patrick was also paid but throughout the process he really had

Thomas Davitt On Contractual Obligation
The basis on contractual obligation is a promise, a promise from both parties to perform a duty,
or duties in reliance on that promise. This paper will take the stance that Thomas Davitt takes,
stating that though mutual assent and consideration are important to a contract, those factors are
not the essence of a contract. There is a moral obligation to fulfill a contract, one that is much
more than simply words written on paper. The second restatement of contracts defines a contract
as: a promise or a set of promises for the breach of which the law gives a remedy, or the
performance of which the law in some way recognizes as a duty. Restatement (Second) of
Contracts В§ 1 (1979). The restatement goes on to define what a promise is. A... Show more content

Davitt discusses the difference between consent and assent . Davitt states that the former implies a
positive action and involves submission, while the later involves more passivity or submission,
which does not include consent. Id. at 273. Davitt would rather state that knowledge and consent
are more appropriate, because these two factors can be applied to both natural and legal
promissory agreements. Id. at 274. In Davitt s view, consideration is not the basis for contractual
obligation. Davitt uses consideration to discuss ways in which to distinguish between legally
enforceable promises are those that are not. According to Davitt, a consideration is the price
bargained and paid for a promise. Id. at 277. Consideration, as defined in the restatement, is similar,
stating that in order [t]o constitute consideration, a performance or a return promise must be
bargained for. Restatement (Second) of Contracts В§ 71. Though Davitt uses a similar definition to
that of the restatement, he believes that consideration is not even essential for a contact. Davitt

Anthropology is defined, in the most basic terms, as the study of other cultures. This field can
subsequently be divided into more specific sects, and contain more precise defining characteristics,
but this definition is essentially all that is needed. Anthropology is a science that attempts to look at
other cultures and draw conclusions to questions that are raised while studying. An anthropologist
is someone who accepts what is presented before them and is driven by an urge to understand each
presentation as thoroughly as possible. Once the concept of anthropology is accepted, one must
identify the means of reaching the goal of this field. In the sect of social anthropology, this vehicle

Although Malinowskis writings have been widely read and understood, they are not generally
accepted as correct. Malinwoski writes in a style of perpetuating the notion of Self and Other. His
attempts at understanding the culture he is studying may be of good intention, but he uses a
condescending, superior attitude in the process. He aims at being in touch with the natives,
(Malinoski, 8) but describes the people as savages and explains that ethnology has introduced law
and order into what seemed chaotic and freakish. It has transformed for us the sensational, wild and
unaccountable world of savages into a number of well ordered communities, governed by law,
behaving and thinking according to consistent principles (Malinowski, 9 10). He is essentially
contradicting himself, saying that he both strives to be in touch with the natives in order to give a
full understanding of their lives, while conducting his research with a superior attitude, which
denies any chances of being authentically in touch. It is this contradiction that has prompted many
to use new techniques, transgressing the rules established by Malinowski and his contemporaries.

Why Did The Americans Dominate The New World Essay
We are all aware of the fact that when the Europeans traveled to the New World, they conquered
it. This has been taught to us throughout our lives. However, there are many theories as to why
the Europeans dominated the New World. There may have been many factors that led to the fall
of the people living in the New World. Thus, I believe the main three reasons I received, alliance
that was formed, and disease that was contracted from the Europeans. I believe that fear is a very
powerful weapon. Therefore, when the omens of the Tlatelolco and Nahua communities started to
become true, it struck it in their hearts. There were a total of eight omens. The first omen started
about ten years before the Spaniards came over the New World. A couple of the omens are a
tongue of fire in the sky, the mountain name of Tlacetecc burned and flared, a temple struck by
lightning, and a lake boiling. The most important omen I believe is when Moteeuccoma seen the

In many Loos s buildings, the exterior was lack of ornament, but the interior was very designed. He

Adolf Loos didn t mean to say that all ornament was unnecessary, he was mean to say that we
should give up the superfluous ornament. The ornaments that will be conserve should have some
sort of functions or meanings.
Overall, I believed Loos s was trying to transfer people s attention from the ornament of building to
the function of the building. He wanted to show that ornament is not as important as the function
of building itself. I totally agree with his point, but there is always the problem of losing something
when people try to change something. At this sense, yes the extra ornaments are a waste, but not all

Social Classes In The United States
It is said that the United States is made up of around six different social classes, however the
three main classes are better known as the Upper, Middle, and Lower class. The three remaining
classes are better known as subcategories for each of the main classes. These subcategories help
break the classes up giving them their individual class.
The upper class makes up roughly 1% of the United States population. This class is best known as
the class of wealth. This wealth is referred to as old (inherited) money. Individuals within the upper
class are often known by and for their family name and/or wealth. Examples being the Rockefellers

The Current Standing Of The U.s. Economy
Tracking the U.S Economy
Jessica Findish
Jacksonville University
Executive Summary In this paper, you will read about the current standing of the U.S. economy as
of spring and summer for 2015. Gross Domestic Product (GDP), unemployment rate, inflation rate,
foreign trade, consumer spending, business investment, and government spending will all be
analyzed. This analysis will then lead to the projection of the U.S. economy for the first two
quarters of 2016.
U.S. Economy: Spring and Summer 2015
Gross Domestic Product (GDP) The Bureau of Economic Analysis showed output in the U.S.
increasing at a rate of 2.3% for the second quarter of 2015 (Sharf, 2015). This is a 1.7% increase
from the first quarter when real GDP increased 0.6% (Sharf, 2015). Current dollar GDP
decreased 0.2 percent, which is the equivalent of $10.4 billion, in the first quarter of 2015 to
$17,693.3 billion (News Release: Gross Domestic Product). The B.E.A. also reports (GDP 2015)
that personal consumption has doubled within the first two quarters of 2015 from 1.8% to 3.6%,
suggesting that consumer income has also increased alongside GDP.
Unemployment Rate
According to the BLS (Labor Force Statistics...), the unemployment rate has decreased in 2015.

Essay on The Cultural Differences Argument for Moral...
Ruth Villagra
The Cultural Differences Argument for Moral Relativism. Moral Relativism is generally used to
describe the differences among various cultures that influence their morality and ethics. According
to James Rachels, because of moral relativism there typically is no right and wrong and briefly
states : Different cultures have different moral codes. (Rachels, 18) Various cultures perceive right
and wrong differently. What is considered right in one society could be considered wrong in
another, but altogether all cultures have some values in common. In Elements of Moral Philosophy,
the author gives examples of such. For instance, a tribe of Indians known as Callatians ate bodies

summarize, he believes that there is not one objective truth or a correct way to dispose of the
bodies because although the culture s actions are different, their beliefs have a common value to
it. It is possible that the Callatians believed that through cannibalization, the spirits of their dead
fathers would be within them and by cremating or burying their bodies it would be viewed as a
sign of disrespect. ( Rachels, 30) If we were to look at the Eskimos example, Rachels argues that
even if in our society infanticide is seen as cruel and an immoral behavior, it is actually quite
logical because they are a nomadic tribe constantly traveling and rely on the males to hunt and
provide for the family the disadvantage would be having an overpopulation of females. He argues
that cultural relativism supports this belief because moral ethics is just based on different cultures
different cultures have different moral codes. There s a difference in opinion which means that you
can t judge the other and that there isn t just one truth of which is right and wrong. However,
Rachels also provides a different example that is actually a logical flaw that attributes to the

The Final Deployment Model Is Like No Other
The final deployment model is like no other. It is called a hybrid cloud deployment. Unlike
being only available to the public or to a specific organization, a hybrid is a combination of the
others. The cloud starts out as separate clouds, and is combined by standards and technology that
manipulates the clouds to satisfy the needs of each (NIST). An example is like a hybrid course
where the material is divided among online and in class, and each load is split based on how much
time is allocated to each. All things considered from models, to characteristics, to deployment
models one must choose wisely and understand how each combination works and how it would

Alternatively, if it resides in house then the IT resources would need to remain and maintain the
cloud. There again lies the decision of how the company would need to allocate the cost and
resources to move towards cloud computing. Once it is known how the upfront cost and location
will be handled, then comes the accounting portion for the upfront cost for the cloud. Just like lease
accounting, there are certain criteria that must be met before knowing whether to capitalize or
expense the cost, and where to place on the financial statements. To capitalize the cost, the consumer
must meet two requirements. First, the consumer must be able to obtain ownership of the cloud
(Conaghan). Secondly, the consumer must be able to run the cloud on their own hardware, or said
consumer can contract another host (Conaghan). If the consumer meets these requirements, they
can capitalize and consider it a service contract. Once considered as a service contract, the
consumer will then depreciate the software and label it as a fixed asset on the balance sheet
(Depth). This will allow for the consumer to expense over the life of the cloud. Conversely, if the
two criteria are not met the consumer must use the expenditure method. The expenditure method
requires that all upfront cost must be expensed at once (as incurred), and reflect on the balance

choice but to abandon his life on land. This obsession gives Stefano an insane drive to stay one
step ahead of the colomber. From a small steam freighter to a true merchantman, Stefano s sea
success grows incessantly. Therefore, the only reason Stefano is a great seaman is because of the

The Freedom Of The United States Essay
Freedom House was established in 1941 in the United States and focused first on the threat to
freedom represented by Nazism. After the war, in its own words, it took up the struggle against
the other great twentieth century totalitarian threat, Communism and defined its mission as
working for the spread of democracy and human rights in the world. Indeed, one of the
instruments developed by Freedom House in order to spread its mission is the s press freedom
index, which has not changed practically at all since its creation in 1980. Due to this
methodological continuity for over three decades, this index is amply used and quoted within and
outside academia (Becker et al., 2007; Holtz Bacha, 2004; Behmer, 2011). During the analyzed
period 2010 2014, the questionnaire suffered minor, but significant changes: as of 2011, the word
bloggers was introduced in some of the questions, together with professional journalists. The
instructions for answering another question indicate that the respondent should consider written,
audio visual and internet media . Freedom House included the latter in the measurement as a
response to criticism of its exclusive focus on traditional media and disregard of digital media
(Burgess, 2010). Freedom House uses a scale of 0 (best score) to 100 (worst score) based on 23
questions and 109 indicators divided in three categories: legal environment (a country may obtain
up to 30 points), political environment (maximum of 40 points) and economic

America And I Anzia Yezierska Summary
A desired goal or purpose that you have wanted very much to do, to be, or to have for a long time
defines the word dream. But what does the American Dream mean to you? Franklin D. Roosevelt,
Walt Whitman, Langston Hughes, and President Barack Obama are just a handful of people who
have written pieces of literature of which either defend, challenge, or qualify the access of the
American Dream given by the United Statesof America. Whether it is coming to this country for
the first time, leaving your home in search of new opportunities, or coming together to pursue our
greatest aspirations, for some people the American Dream is in far reach, but for others it is right in
their grasp.
In America and I , the author Anzia Yezierska speaks to us about her arrival here in America
along with her journey to find herself in what was to her, a foreign land. Referring to her home
back in Russia, Anzia describes it as a prison yet America gave her endless hope in a better
tomorrow. She came to America in wish to turn her life around, give life to things unliving, and
accomplish what her elders could not. Her first job was as a servant in an Americanized family.

The evidence portrayed by the authors in this paper suggest that in some scenarios the American
Dream is still after many years a reality, but in others it will always be just a dream. This is
important because it reveals to us that in order for Americans to achieve the goal of equality,
freedom, and genuine happiness we must come together to give each other endless support and
guidance. Anzia Yezierska, Langston Hughes, and Barack Obama all share a key characteristic
and that is hope. Through hardships, discrimination, and setbacks they all still held a great
confidence that one day America would truly be a land of opportunity, the land of the free, and
lastly a united nation for people today and the life of the world to

Literary Analysis Of Pride And Prejudice
It is a truth universally acknowledged that Pride and Prejudice is the most memorable, riveting and
heartwarming romance novels in history. Diving into the 1813 lifestyle from a modern viewpoint
raises the political correctness alarm: marriage as a means of survival for women, the rigidity of
birth and the intimidating, cruel class system. In 2017, Regency England in multiple ways seems
utterly daunting, nevertheless, Austen cleverly and entertainingly exposes these harsh customaries
to ridicule.
Mrs. Bennet has a sole trivial aspiration for her 5 young daughters Jane, Elizabeth, Mary, Kitty
and Lydia to unite in wedlock. And lustful, engrossing events arise from the first pleasurable
encounter with Jane and the rich handsome suitor Mr. Bingely as well as the meeting of Mr.
Bingley s conceited friend Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth who ironically experience hate at first sight.
For many, Pride and Prejudice is a highly satisfying love story that has importantly laid the basic
foundations for romantic literature. So, the love story mainly endorses the romance genre
expectations for a modern audience through its inclusion of the vital romance ingredients, namely
our archetypal hero, heroine, engaging obstacles, conflict, tension and ultimate happy ending.
Characters
Elizabeth Bennet is the perfect literary romantic heroine. She is not sappy, thank heavens, nor ditzy
or sissified but unconventionally outspoken, headstrong and self sufficient through her propensity
to defy the

The Power Of The Great Powers Of Great Britain
Using Europe as essentially a blank tablet on which to create their own Balance of Power, the
Great Powers of Great Britain, Prussia, Austria, and Russia (with France, the defeated power,
playing a lesser role) re drew the map. There had been other pressing matters to settle: the rights of
German Jews, the abolition of the slave trade and navigation on European rivers, not to mention the
restoration of the Bourbon royal family in France, Spain and Naples, the constitution of
Switzerland, issues of diplomatic precedence and, last but not least, the foundation of a new
German confederation to replace the defunct Holy Roman Empire. Sensing that Napoleon was

The great victorious powers (Russia, Britain, Austria and Prussia) invited other states of Europe

the foundation of a new German confederation to replace the late Holy Roman Empire. The root
of the crisis could, again, is in a failure of Congress system (and again in the Holy Alliance): the
omission of the Ottoman Empire of European peace. In 1830 Czartoryski, who was on the wrong
side of a Polish rebellion against Russian side, he regretted that despite perpetual peace had become
the conception of the most powerful monarchs of the continent (he referred in particular to Tsar
Alexander) diplomacy had corrupted and turned into poison.

Analysis Of Esperanza Rising
Everything can change with just one blink of the eye. The things you loved the most are gone,
and there is nothing you can do about it. This is what Esperanza experiences in Esperanza Rising
by Pam Munoz Ryan (copyright 2000, 253 pages). The big idea is learning to adjust and endure in
the United Statesas a farm worker.
The main character is Esperanza and what she wants is for her mom to get better from her
sickness. This story takes place in El Rancho de las Rosas and The San Joaquin Valley through
1924 1931. The central problem was revealed when a sudden tragedy forces Esperanza and her
mom to flee to California. The plot connects with the characters because some of Esperanza s
servants/friends were planning to go to California already.

Brazil is one of the most prominent emerging economies in the world, indeed Brazil forms part
of the BRIC group of emerging economies alongside Russia, India and China. Brazil does differ
from some of its emerging economy counterparts in many ways, unlike China (but similar to
Russia and India) Brazil has a democratic form of government and the centre left Worker s Party
(Partidos dos Trabalhadores (PT)) has governed Brazilsince 2003. Unlike other emerging
economies, the Brazilian economy is dominated by the services industry which contributes 67 per

largely attributable to the social justice programs of the Brazilian government rather than the
direct impact of global market forces. The most notable of these programs is the Bolsa Familia

The Welfare Policy Regulates All Stages Of A Child s...
Policies are important to all that could benefit from them and could help our communities by
helping them. Also, policies are important because our government is strapped for money. Since
we face serious fiscal problems with the government running large deficits every year. Meaning we
have to be smarter about our social welfarepolicies. It needs to be ensure that they really work so
that they are not wasting money. Moreover, in 2004 in the United States about 3 million children
were investigated because of alleged abuse or neglect. From that investigation 872, 000 children
were confirmed victims of maltreatment; and an estimate 1,490 children died from abuse or neglect
(U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 2006). Child welfare... Show more content on

The bureaucratic model that was designed to legitimize the professional aims of child welfare
work became a principal barrier to the use of family preservation models in public agencies. This
bureaucratization is traced to the efficiency paradigm that began to emerge in the early part of the
twentieth century when a shift occurred form cause to function and from the democratic to the
bureaucratic organization. Lubove described the origins of the efficiency paradigm in social work
as follows:
The quest for efficiency and administrative technique in social agency operations paralleled the
caseworker s efforts to reduce the range of intuition, subjectivity, and unpredictability in her own
work. In both cases the volunteer introduced an element of uncertainty. Neither her livelihood nor
social status depended upon conformity to agency policy or to the standards and procedures of
professional casework. Volunteer service conflicted with the administrator s desire for rational,
efficient organization and the social worker s identification with the agency as a vehicle for
professional achievement. (Lubove, 1965, p.161)
The efficiency pursued as a means for legitimizing the professional social worker has had its
consequences. Today s public child welfare agency has devolved into the organization type that
sociologist, Max Weber feared in defining the pure bureaucratic type: bureaucratic efficiency has
reduced the organization s capacity to respond to

The Impact Of The Partition Of India
The Partition of India and Its Impact War raged from 1918 to 1947 and over 18 million were
displaced however no one was left unaffected (Press Information Bureau, Military Evacuation
Organisation.). Neighbors of the Indian ethnicity worried for their loved ones at home, families
separated not knowing where or when they d ever see each other again, and others trying to
recover after being severely injured in an attack. The Partition, or splitting of India forced people
out of their homes to try and relieve religious tension between the warring states, India and Pakistan
. Jhumpa Lahiri, an Indian author, writes about the struggles of the people before, during, and
after the Partition in her books Interpreter of the Maladies and The Namesake. In the Interpreter
of the Maladies, Lahiri introduces the readers to Mr. Pirzada, an Indian man who endures much
turbulence after being awarded a grant to study in New England while a civil war is occurring in
his home country, and Boori Ma, an elderly woman who struggles to find stability after being
reluctantly migrated to Calcutta because of the Partition. In Lahiri s The Namesake, Ashoke
Ganguli was traveling to see his family when the Pakistani Army had placed a terror attack and
turn his and his family life upside down. The Partition of Indiaimpacted anyone and everyone of
India and largely effected the lives of these characters in many ways. The country of India

Introductory Physics Personal Statement
I began teaching as a graduate teaching assistant and project assistant at the University of Wisconsin
Madison. As a teaching assistant, I conducted labs, discussion sessions, and some honor sessions
for introductory physics courses in electromagnetism, thermal dynamics, optics, and modern
physics. As a project assistant, my responsibilities included grading homework, discussing it with
students, and prepare some homework solutions in quantum mechanics, quantum field theory, and
an introductory physicscourse. In teaching physics, my main goal is to have my students actively
thinking like physicists. I believe that the ability to think like a physicist is valuable to everyone,
whether physics graduates, physics majors or non physics majors. And more importantly, the ability
can be developed in physics classes, especially critical thinking and quantitative analysis. To better
achieve this goal, I gear my approaches to different groups of students.

material and the connection between the new one and the old ones before solving problems. I also
encouraged the students to discuss the problems in groups, so that they could focus more on how to
think and solve the problems rather than go through the notes to find the right formula. To help
them understand the physics behind the formulas, I pushed them to explain not just what to do, but

Propose An On Demand Qos Routing Algorithm Essay
The main objective of this paper is to propose an on demand QoS routing algorithm. Since the
requirements for various applications may vary time to time, the approach for QoS routing may
not be proactive. The proposed approach has two phases namely route discovery phase and
route maintenance phase. When a source node has to pass data to a destination node with QoS
requirements it starts with the route discovery phase. Once the route is found, the data transfer
will take place. While data transmission is going on, it is also required to maintain the path to
the destination. This is very much desirable and required in mobile ad hoc networks and hence
is done in the route maintenance phase. Introduction In Mobile presence service is a vital
component of a social network applications due to mobile user s presence details such as global
positioning system location, network address, and online/offline status are continuously apprise
to user s online buddies. A mobile ubiquity services is an important element of cloud computing
environments, for the reason it keeps an up to date list of presence information of mobile user. If
presence updates occur often the number of messages distributed by presence server may lead to
scalability problem and buddy list search problem in large scale mobile presence services. To
overcome the scalability problem proposed an efficient and ascendable server architecture called
presence cloud. It organizes the presence server into quorum based

Theory of Planned Behavior A theory often used in the research of individual health behavior and
behavioral intentions is the theory of planned behavior (Ajzen, 1991). According to this theory, the
performance of any behavior depends on behavioral intention. Behavioral intention is viewed as
being dependent on behavioral beliefs (e.g., attitude towards the behavior), normative beliefs, and
control beliefs. Normative beliefs are beliefs about the expectations of others, and control beliefs
are beliefs about the factors that may help or hinder the performance of the behavior. The
framework for the study of physical activity discussed earlier by Armitage (2005) is based on this
theory. That study found that behavioral beliefs, normative beliefs, and control beliefs all
contribute to physical activity behavior. Organizing, Displaying, and Describing Data *10 This

  • 3. The Negative Effects Of Racial Profiling Racial Profiling The Amin brothers, Ahmad and Hassan, were normal young adults like you and I. They lived in Pakistan for only a short period of their lives and moved to the US at a young age. Their mother, Tahira Manzur had high hopes that they will become permanent, working, residents of the US. Unfortunately, the Immigration and Naturalization Service, or INS for short, had suspicions that the young men had correlations to a 9/11 terrorist attack. Hassan was arrested and stayed at Yuba county jail overnight until a 4,000$ bail freed him and his younger brother ,Ahamad, missed school every wednesday and had to check in with the INS Offices. In the process, they were in the fight against being deported for 5 tiring years along with rigorous court dates all because of assumptions to terrorism. (Racial Profiling since 9/11). Part of their young lives was striped from them. Racial profiling can and has had a detrimental effect on many lives like the Amin brothers. What does the INS do? Their main job is to regulate immigrants who come into the country and if their transmission is legal. Racial profiling is used, mainly in law enforcement, to target people based off of stereotypes of their race, ethnicity, religion, or origin if they are suspected to be part of a criminal action. It has been around since the 1800 s but a recent event also revealed it was used as well when Japanese immigrants wanted to move to the US but were denied access because of distrust from the result ... The role the actor was playing while in black face would often playing characters who had negative characteristics and personality. This is equivalent to what Hollywood films are doing to the continent of Africa, highlighting every negative aspect about her but not bringing to light everything beautiful about it. Rochelle Burgess writes how she was bought to tears after watching only one half of Adam Brace s play They Drink It in the congo, in the play she writes that Black men were portrayed as violent and full of rage and as sexual predators, and black women were portrayed as victims and silent workhorses. The congo was portrayed as a broken country to which white leads in the play were trying to help improve their living conditions, she then continues to say I watched as black characters were used to prop up the self exploration of white leads. Groan Group Observation Through the observation, I hardly saw any progression through the Groan Zone and I assume that is because this group has been meeting once a week for about 10 years and while they may face misunderstanding or miscommunication they have worked though enough of it that they have a solid foundation of shared understanding and the collective thought processes of their teammates. The groupdid in fact progress through the Divergent and Convergent Zones. At some points, they seemed to work through both zones at the same time. For example, while generating a list of ideas they made sure to summarize the key points of their ideas. After this step they not only looked for the conflicting issues between their ideas but they could come to agreement on which brainstormed ideas would work and which ones were forgettable. Finally, the last point that they processed through was exercising judgment. This process was interesting to observe. First off, it was difficult to observe and not comment on their ideas and secondly, I could notice the sensitivity when giving the judgment. No one wanted to sound harsh when giving their feedback. Which I found was a smart option since they work together daily.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First, I noticed the paraphrasing that was done by the facilitator. If anything, this was one of the most used techniques. I think it was the dominate approach because she could create a new conversation through paraphrasing and it stopped her from giving her input, while also giving her clarification on an idea she might have been questionable about. Secondly, I noticed the facilitator using the drawing out method. She realized my director was being silent and she managed to draw her out and add her into the discussion ... Reflective Role As A Senior Support Worker My role as senior support worker is to work alongside management to provide an effective service to vulnerable adults with mental health living in the community; it is important to offer professional leadership and positive team work skills. At the beginning of my employment as a senior support worker in mental health there was minimal knowledge and experience in supporting vulnerable adults within this specific area, however CQC fundamental standards which everyone in health and social care can expect remain transferable. Please find attached an example of how the remaining 12 fundamental standards have also been expressed throughout my experience as senior support worker whilst evidence is shown on a day to day basis. As my previous role was a team leader it was essential that the skills learnt previously were carried into my new role and enhanced to be able to provide the best service possible. Person centred care is vital to providing support to suit an individual s needs; I have implemented this when doing the into care plans, I sat with citizens to go through their support package which can increase the understanding of a citizens involvement in their support so that their needs are met; additionally as a senior a person centred approach is also used when supporting staff with their professional development, it is about the inclusion of staff to meet their targets and aims making them appropriate and realistic to the individual. • 9. London During The Industrial Revolution London, the capital of the Industrial Revolution in the 1750s, created textile factories that increased the demand for labor, urbanization, population and food supply. This led to a migration of people into the cities and away from rural areas to look for work. At this time, London had a laissez faire economic system where the government did not interfere with private property meaning that it was free from regulation. Therefore, private slaughterhouses were all around the city to provide people with fresh meatand for butchers to make a profit. But, slaughtering in London had negative consequences like the smell and traffic congestion causing hazards to the public leading reformers to demand government regulation. In Maclachan s article, The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the state s first actions was replacing Smithfield Market in 1855 with the Metropolitan Cattle Market in the suburbs where it can connect to railway transportations. This proved a relief from traffic congestion in the city with the use of railways that opened a gateway to an increase in country killed meat as opposed to meat from livestock slaughtered in London. This gradual increase in country killed meat was malignant to the butcher s business because it meant less livestock would be slaughtered in the city and less profit. Also, the government realized that public health regulation is needed to protect the people from meat not inspected that could cause fatal diseases because the state is responsible for securing the well being of its people. Hence, the state passed the Buildings Act (1844) and the Metropolis Act (1873) giving power to the state to regulate the slaughtering process and monitor the waste disposal from slaughtering. Thus, after these state actions the relationship between the food and the state is gradually converging under the control of the government. These regulations almost caused the extinction of private slaughterhouses because there was a decrease in private slaughterhouses from 1,500 in 1873 to 455 in 1897. Aristotle’s Nicomachean Ethics Essay example In Book 1 of Aristotle s Nicomachean Ethics, he argues that happiness is the best good, and the goal of an individual and of those leading and governing society. Here, happiness is understood as both living well and doing well, rather than the convention sense of happiness as an emotion. According to Aristotle, happiness is achieved though actions involving reason and in accord with virtue, or the best of the virtues of there are more than one. After discussing and reinforcing his concept of happiness as the most desired and best good, and the goal of a human life, the discussion segues into an examination of virtue and the rest of the work. Throughout this Book 1, the discussion digresses multiple times to explore the method by which the topic will be examined. Realising that concepts such as happiness are subjective, he establishes in the third Chapter that the fruits of the discussion will be satisfactory so long as it holds true universally. He also considers in Chapter four whether the discussion should originate from the principles, or from our experiences, and suggests that we should being from things known and immediate to us, which seems to be a logical choice as the discussions as a whole focus on what a man should do in order to act according to virtue in order to become good and attain happiness. In addition, the sixth Chapter is devoted to criticism of the theory of Forms. • 12. Theme Of Nature In Thoreau discards the language of obedience and redemption used by the church. To Thoreau, Nature and God are at once synonymous and interconnected: Next to us the grandest laws are continually being executed. Next to us is not the workman we have hired, with whom we love so well to talk, but the workman whose work we are. (175) Thoreau believes in a creator god, a living god that makes of Nature his home. Thoreau feels Nature is a divine space: a space where man is able to feel close to his god, a space where man is able to appreciate his god s favors and Nature is the space where man can embrace the god within himself. Influenced by Emerson, Coleridge and Wordsworth, among others, Thoreau thinks that nature is the source of strength, spirituality... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He aims at being in touch with the natives, (Malinoski, 8) but describes the people as savages and explains that ethnology has introduced law and order into what seemed chaotic and freakish. It has transformed for us the sensational, wild and unaccountable world of savages into a number of well ordered communities, governed by law, behaving and thinking according to consistent principles (Malinowski, 9 10). He is essentially contradicting himself, saying that he both strives to be in touch with the natives in order to give a full understanding of their lives, while conducting his research with a superior attitude, which denies any chances of being authentically in touch. It is this contradiction that has prompted many to use new techniques, transgressing the rules established by Malinowski and his contemporaries. Moral Relativism is generally used to describe the differences among various cultures that influence their morality and ethics. According to James Rachels, because of moral relativism there typically is no right and wrong and briefly states : Different cultures have different moral codes. (Rachels, 18) Various cultures perceive right and wrong differently. What is considered right in one society could be considered wrong in another, but altogether all cultures have some values in common. In Elements of Moral Philosophy, the author gives examples of such. For instance, a tribe of Indians known as Callatians ate bodies of their dead fathers; the Greeks turned to ... To summarize, he believes that there is not one objective truth or a correct way to dispose of the bodies because although the culture s actions are different, their beliefs have a common value to it. It is possible that the Callatians believed that through cannibalization, the spirits of their dead fathers would be within them and by cremating or burying their bodies it would be viewed as a sign of disrespect. ( Rachels, 30) If we were to look at the Eskimos example, Rachels argues that even if in our society infanticide is seen as cruel and an immoral behavior, it is actually quite logical because they are a nomadic tribe constantly traveling and rely on the males to hunt and provide for the family the disadvantage would be having an overpopulation of females. He argues that cultural relativism supports this belief because moral ethics is just based on different cultures different cultures have different moral codes. There s a difference in opinion which means that you can t judge the other and that there isn t just one truth of which is right and wrong. However, Rachels also provides a different example that is actually a logical flaw that attributes to the Cultural Differences Argument. There again lies the decision of how the company would need to allocate the cost and resources to move towards cloud computing. Once it is known how the upfront cost and location will be handled, then comes the accounting portion for the upfront cost for the cloud. Just like lease accounting, there are certain criteria that must be met before knowing whether to capitalize or expense the cost, and where to place on the financial statements. To capitalize the cost, the consumer must meet two requirements. First, the consumer must be able to obtain ownership of the cloud (Conaghan). Secondly, the consumer must be able to run the cloud on their own hardware, or said consumer can contract another host (Conaghan). If the consumer meets these requirements, they can capitalize and consider it a service contract. Once considered as a service contract, the consumer will then depreciate the software and label it as a fixed asset on the balance sheet (Depth). This will allow for the consumer to expense over the life of the cloud. Conversely, if the two criteria are not met the consumer must use the expenditure method. After the war, in its own words, it took up the struggle against the other great twentieth century totalitarian threat, Communism and defined its mission as working for the spread of democracy and human rights in the world. Indeed, one of the instruments developed by Freedom House in order to spread its mission is the s press freedom index, which has not changed practically at all since its creation in 1980. Due to this methodological continuity for over three decades, this index is amply used and quoted within and outside academia (Becker et al., 2007; Holtz Bacha, 2004; Behmer, 2011). • 42. Literary Analysis Of Pride And Prejudice It is a truth universally acknowledged that Pride and Prejudice is the most memorable, riveting and heartwarming romance novels in history. Diving into the 1813 lifestyle from a modern viewpoint raises the political correctness alarm: marriage as a means of survival for women, the rigidity of birth and the intimidating, cruel class system. In 2017, Regency England in multiple ways seems utterly daunting, nevertheless, Austen cleverly and entertainingly exposes these harsh customaries to ridicule. Mrs. Bennet has a sole trivial aspiration for her 5 young daughters Jane, Elizabeth, Mary, Kitty and Lydia to unite in wedlock. And lustful, engrossing events arise from the first pleasurable encounter with Jane and the rich handsome suitor Mr. Bingely as well as the meeting of Mr. Bingley s conceited friend Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth who ironically experience hate at first sight. For many, Pride and Prejudice is a highly satisfying love story that has importantly laid the basic foundations for romantic literature. So, the love story mainly endorses the romance genre expectations for a modern audience through its inclusion of the vital romance ingredients, namely our archetypal hero, heroine, engaging obstacles, conflict, tension and ultimate happy ending. The bureaucratic model that was designed to legitimize the professional aims of child welfare work became a principal barrier to the use of family preservation models in public agencies. This bureaucratization is traced to the efficiency paradigm that began to emerge in the early part of the twentieth century when a shift occurred form cause to function and from the democratic to the bureaucratic organization. Lubove described the origins of the efficiency paradigm in social work as follows: The quest for efficiency and administrative technique in social agency operations paralleled the caseworker s efforts to reduce the range of intuition, subjectivity, and unpredictability in her own work. In both cases the volunteer introduced an element of uncertainty. Neither her livelihood nor social status depended upon conformity to agency policy or to the standards and procedures of professional casework. Volunteer service conflicted with the administrator s desire for rational, efficient organization and the social worker s identification with the agency as a vehicle for professional achievement. Since the requirements for various applications may vary time to time, the approach for QoS routing may not be proactive. The proposed approach has two phases namely route discovery phase and route maintenance phase. When a source node has to pass data to a destination node with QoS requirements it starts with the route discovery phase. Once the route is found, the data transfer will take place.
