Is Jay Gatsby Truly Great
The Great Gatsby
Is James Gatz, also known as Jay Gatsby truly great? Jay Gatz is born in North Dakota to a poor
farming family. Jay Gatsby decides to leave the family to find his own adventure, hopefully
living better than the rest of his family. Jay Gatsby goes into Lake Superior in a really bad storm
to try and save Dan Cody, and that is when James Gatz decides to change his name to Jay Gatsby.
Jay Gatsby starts all kinds of adventures throughout his life, including going to war. When Gatsby
is stationed in Kentucky, he meets this Southern belle named Daisy. He and Daisy fall in love
only in time for the war to begin. Daisy was waiting for Gatsby, even though, her family did not
approve of her falling in love with a poor nobody. Gatsby is hoping that Daisy is waiting for him,
but when the war is over he is sent to Oxford, and Daisy falls in love with a man that has money.
The rest of the James Gatz s life was spent attempting to get Daisy back. In Francis Scott Key
Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby, James Gatz is truly great, by staying true to his one and only love,
staying true to his friends, and also by following his dreams and never giving up. First of all,
Gatsby has been true to Daisy even when she completely forgot about him. When Gatsby found
out that Daisy was getting married, he decided to do everything in his power to find Daisy and
have her fall in love with him again: Gatsby bought that house so that Daisy would be just across
the bay (Fitzgerald 83).

Should Professional Athletes Get High Salaries
Athletes and Professional Entertainers Deserving High Salaries?
Many professional athletes and entertainers earn large sums of money. Do you agree or disagree
with these individuals making this kind of money? I agree with them earning high salaries
because people have the choice to pay money to see them. These people are not in it for the
money. They do it because this is what they love to do. They deserve the money and need it.
They worked hard every day to do what is need to keep on doing their career. They should not be
punish or criticized for doing what they want. They deserve the money for their hard work,
dedication, and people should not get mad at them and keep paying them.
My first reason I think they should keep making their high salaries because people are going to
keep paying them. People pay to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Just like anyone else they need the money to survive. I know they may not need that much
money, but that s how much it cost for them to keep on with their job. They deserve it because
they worked hard to get where they are. They didn t just wake up and get where they are.
Athletes have been working years to get as good as there are. They also wouldn t be able to be
where they are. They deserve this money for the years of work they have done and they need the
money for the financial expenses of going on tour or having an injury.
In conclusion, I agree that these people deserve their high salaries they receive. They don t only
deserve them the need them. People have they choice to pay and see them. If you disagree with
them, then why do people keep paying for them? People pay for cable which is literally full of
professional entertainer and athletes. People pay because they love watching them that s why they
deserve all the money they receive. People need to understand how these professionals are people
to and need the same things we need. They deserve the money they worked for Just like anyone else

Literature Review On Gifted Education
An Exploratory Literature Review: Trends in Early Childhood Gifted Education
First Phase Research Results
Introduction
My interest gifted education started, when I reflected on my teaching experience and
philosophy. Before start pursuing my master degree in the US, I was a kindergarten teacher.
During my practice in a public school kindergarten classroom, I had a very bright student who
immediately picked up cues that I gave about the activity of the day. She was quickly and
correctly finishing the basic math activities. In addition, she was very creative during the art
activities. She also demonstrated leadership skills among her classmates. While I was evaluating
her, I attributed her success to her family environment. Compared to her classmates, she had very
attentive parents. Moreover, she was the last child of the family and her older two siblings were
academically successful role models for her. Most importantly, she also attended preschool before
she started kindergarten; therefore, her performance was higher compared to classmates who did
not have these same experiences. Once I become familiar with advance courses in gifted education,
I now realize and feel my mistake, which was either not to consult schools guidance counselor or
learn more how to engage her with different type of activities. Therefore, as a part of my
professional development, I wanted to focus on the teacher role in the early childhood gifted
education. However, I had very little knowledge about

The French Revolution And French Revolutions
Although the American and French revolutions both took place in the late 18th century, both
fought for independence, and both portrayed patriotism, the revolutions are markedly different in
their origins; one which led to the world s longest lasting democracy and the other to a Napoleonic
Dictatorship.
Political revolutions in America and France happened because people felt dissatisfied with the way
their country was run. In North America they rebelled against rule from a foreign power, they
wanted to rule themselves. In France the citizens executed their weak king and tried to introduce a
democracy. Many features distinguish the French Revolution of English and American revolutions
that preceded it. Finances: Both the American Revolution and the French Revolution were
products of desperate economic conditions. France was having a budget crisis, they were
bankrupt. Years of bad budgetary decisions and failed efforts to fix the problems. The king was
forced to call together the estates general, a meeting of all three groups of the classes. During the
meeting of the Estates General, the Third Estate spoke out on their unfair treatment. However, the
nobles and clergy also felt that they too were being treated unfairly. Images of hungry and poor
French peasants are still familiar.
France was in crisis. Food was scarce, prices were high and the government was bankrupt. In order
to line the royal coffers, Louis could either borrow or raise taxes, but first he would have

Gerard David Virgin And Child With Four Angels
Gerard David created his oil on wood painting Virgin and Child with Four Angels from 1510 to
1515 in Bruges, Netherlands. The piece is currently located at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in
New York City and is found in Gallery 640 as part of the museum s collection of European
paintings. Just as the title indicates, the painting s subject is the Blessed Virgin Maryholding her
infant son JesusChrist, the prophesied Messiah of the Old Testament, while being crowned by
angels. Through the use of formal artistic techniques, David conveys the miraculous and perfect
nature of the Mary, stressing her importance as the Mother of God and the Queen of Heaven in a
realistic and relatable manner.
Throughout the Virgin and Child with Four Angels, David employs the use of color to emphasize
the miraculous nature of the religious subject matter. From the ornate jewels of the crown to the
ruby red color of Mary s gown to the amethyst purple sash of the angel in the upper right, the
application of rich jewel tones induces a sense of royal holiness to figures. Their brightness and
warmth successfully draw the viewer s attention to figures possessing them and generate an
atmospheric serenity to the scene. Additionally, the subtle flushness of the figures ... Show more

At the top of the work, the angels are holding a crown, which is typically perceived as a symbol
of royalty, honor and/or glory. Hence, this symbol represents the glory of Mary as Queen of
Heaven and as the virgin Mother of God, which can be seen as worthy of both honor and praise.
Another symbol is in the middle ground of the piece, where a monk is praying in the field by the
stone wall. In Christianity, monks live solemn lives of prayer and service, completely devoted to
spreading the Word of God in the Christian Gospel. Therefore, the monk s presence creates a sense
piety and holiness in the scene, which lends well to the religious

Essay On Stereotypes Of Boys
Many things and many problems appear to all people in all ages but when we say boys we talk
about our future and the main treasure, and here we talk about boys will be boys which refer to
one thing. we should treat boys according to their ages. Some boys find themselves depressed and
want to commit crimes, why? this is a result of not being able to live their childhood in societies
which treat them differently from girls.
They are oppressed to act like real men not real boys;
Subsequently we find them hiding their emotions, lying to themselves and keeping silent.
There
are roles for family, school and community to get rid off all the oppressive stereotypes associated
with boys so we can discover their merits and demerits.
As one s family is usually closer,
families should start by treating boys with more kindness. Schools should recognise their abilities
and communities should facilitates their talents.

They then start feeling isolated. This isolation evolves to depression. Depressed boys can commit
crimes, do strange acts, and rebel against all people whom they believe have wronged them.
Especially their parents.
Solutions:
The point here is how we can treat boys better.
At first, we should acknowledge their needs, let
them express themselves, and we should let them live their ages. They can cry, they can love, and
they can hate.
Schools should take extra steps in student care. Starting with its teachers,
Teachers should interact with boys and keep an eye on them if they showed aggression or
violence. And if a boy misbehaved, communication is key. The boy s family should be informed
and a follow up from the school is obligatory.
Also communities should establish programs
about how to communicate with boys in different

Cost Effectiveness Of A New Technique For A Common...
Cost effectiveness of a new technique for a Common surgical procedure
In this present era of technological revolution, a scientific breakthrough or an advancement is a
common event. It is a tough task for any organization to maintain the balance between staying
ahead with the scientific know how and aligning the cost effectiveness of each intervention, which
they are accountable for, without compromising highest levels of patient management, safety and
care. Therefore, any new technique has to be cross examined not only for the robust clinical
effectiveness as to its competitors and also to justify its economic worthiness.

2)Assessment provides a systematic evaluation of evidence available on the technology along with
a critical analysis of the clinical and cost effectiveness of the intervention. It has two parts
a.Systematic review of literature
b.Economic evaluation / Cost effectiveness analysis.
3)Appraisal Appraisal committee provides evidence based on analytic report and proposes
recommendations.
Defining scope
1)This is one of the integral preliminary steps in evaluating a new technique. It defines framework
for appraisal and determines issues of interest. The following steps are involved:
a.Cohort involved with the disease condition
b.Level at which intervention is proposed like community/hospital
c.Cost effectiveness to the organization
d.Analysis of outcome measures with the potential comparators
e.Defines efficient time period in which effects and cost can be analyzed
f.Identifies the evidence base from which data is collected
g.Highlights social concerns of equality along with maintenance of quality of life outcome
measures.
Systematic review of literature
A comprehensive evidence base forms the backbone of a systematic appraisal. Systematic evidence
gathering is done to minimize deficiencies database and quantification of limitations in database is
analyzed with reflection of uncertainty in the results. A meta analysis of all the evidence is done
and critically appraised.

Digital Ethics
Digital ethics is important because it teaches the right as well as the wrong things to do on a
computer. It teaches people how to behave using social media, in other words, it shows people how
to be mature on the internet. With technology increasing the more users take advantage of its
efficiency. As well as manipulating technology to their advantage (Radhika. 2012).
Online users have to respect the legal agenda and act within the internets bounds using ethical,
courteous, safe productivity. The problem now with students writing papers is to determine if the
information is credibility. The Internet offers an excess amount of information, and this kind of
knowledge is coming from countless sources; reliable and unreliable (Radhika. 2012). ... Show

Internet ethical issues affect a variety of people and almost all of them today are affected in some
kind of a way. Digital ethics also teaches online users about cyber bullying which happens a lot
now. Children and adults have been victims of cyber bullying over the past years that had been lead
to horrible things (Thomas. 2011).
The digital ethics does also indicate how one persona is seen by the people looking you up
online. It is so simple to search yourself up online and have all this information about you right in
front of you. This means anyone with internet access can see your social media pages, and if that
person has a background in hacking they can figure out all personal information such as social
security numbers, credit cards, and addresses (Radhika. 2012).
Hackers get into your hard drives and sell all your personal information to the highest bidders.
Ethical hacking on the other hand is doing what regular hackers do, but the differences is that
they can do it legally with the back up of the FBI of CIA. A reason someone would do this kind of
hacking is to do either a personal background check or if you are in the FBI most wanted listen

Atrocity Of Prejudice
The American author and poet Maya Angelou once said, ВЁPrejudice is a burden that confuses the
past, threatens the future and renders the present inaccessible.ВЁ Angelou conveys the true atrocity
of prejudice with this statement, revealing it as an enemy of humanity. Harper Lee, another author
of Angelou s period, also discusses prejudice in her novelTo Kill a Mockingbird. Lee masterfully
touches on such a difficult topic in her novel by displaying multiple events to readers, as well as
the effects they have on the characters, through the eyes of a young girl named Scout Finch. Some
instances of prejudice and discrimination present in the novel are MaycombВґs treatment of Arthur
ВЁBooВЁ Radley, Aunt AlexandraВґs perception of Walter Cunningham, and the manner in which
Tom Robinson s trial was handled.
The rumors regarding Boo Radley, born only from the stigma surrounding his lifestyle, are one
instance of prejudice in the novel. At the beginning of the novel, young Scout Finch says, regarding
Radley, ВЁInside the [Radley] house lived a malevolent phantom... Any stealthy small crimes
committed in Maycomb were his work.ВЁ Miss ScoutВґs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In actuality, Mr. RobinsonВґs trial was nothing more than a formality for those who had condemned
him as soon as theyВґd seen the color of his skin. As Atticus Finchsaid when addressing the court,
ВЁThe state has not produced one iota of medical evidence to the effect that the crime Tom
Robinson is charged with ever took place. It had relied instead upon the testimony of two witnesses
whose evidence has not only been called into serious question... but as been flatly contradicted...ВЁ
Here, Mr. Finch calls to attention the fact that there is no evidence that a crime was even
committed, or that Tom Robinson was involved. Furthermore, the truth of Tom Robinson s trial is
that it is a formality, merely meant to precede the guilty conviction his skin color has condemned
him

The Theory Of Social Learning Theory
This essay will demonstrate a knowledge and understanding and discuss the concept of social
learning theory, whilst taking into consideration and explaining the way children learn and
develop. This essay will focus on the overall concept of this theory and will explore the work of the
theorist Albert Bandura and how he contributes to the role of the adult and their understanding of
social learning. This essay will then examine the work of Urie Bronfenbrenner in relation to the
work of Bandura. Using this theoretical perspective it can benefit the adult by understanding of
children s learning and social development. Furthermore, this essay will link into practical and
reflect upon and analyse the relationship between theory and practice.
Social learning theory suggests that people learn from one another, this can be through observation,
imitation, media and modelling. This theory is often known as the behaviourist theory and
cognitive learning theory because it consists of using attention, memory, behaviour and motivation.
Social learning theory advocates that individuals, especially children, imitate or copy modelled
behaviour from personally observing others, the environment and the mass media . (Gray and
MacBlain, 2015). This is stating that a child will look up to someone they respect and class them
as models, the child may imitate their behaviour and the way they act. If a child s behaviour is then
reinforced the behaviour will occur again. This theory consists of

State Wide Elections Case Study
Introduction: The United States has a federalist government meaning that it works similarly on two
different levels; nationally, and on the state level. This means that not only are elections held on the
national level, but every year state wide elections exist where different issues are voted upon in
state wide referendum. Although these occur every year, mainly they have been seen as only being
important, and therefore watched by the people within that state, rather than nationally. Even so,
within the past few years, these state elections have become more important nationally. Whether
that is through the issues being voted on, or the trends that winning seats may prove for further

Martin Guerre Research Paper
The story of Martin Guerre shows how easily families were disrupted during the course of foreign
wars. Guerre grew up in a small town where he eventually was betrothed to his wife Bertrand.
After an argument with his father, Guerre decided to leave for Spain where he served in their army
during the war. After 8 years away at war, much happened to Guerre and his familyback home
including the death of his parents, and a man pretending to be him that had nearly the entire village
fooled for a short period of time.
There are a few reasons why foreign war can be so disrupting to families during the mid 1500 s.
The first is the lack of communication possible in that era, Guerre chose not to write to his
family back home, but at the same time two way communication was still very challenging
during that time period. While Martin was at war, the only thing his family could do was wait
for his return, dead or alive. The other main issue at hand was how long wars took during this
time period. Martin was gone for 8 years during this time. That is 8 years of complete change and
in Martin s case, utter disruption of his family.
It is easy to see how foreign wars during this time period could cause such disruption and dismay to
families. Between the inability to accurately communicate and the length of time of the wars, there

The Discovery Of A Fossil Specimen
After so many years of searching and excavating, my partners and I have discovered our first
hominin fossil. After all the digging, cleaning, and cataloging of hominin discoveries is complete,
we begin to start analyzing mysterious specimen #6. It looked a lot like a modern human but the
skull features is slightly different and the molars is quite large. From what we have noticed at first
sight, the incisors, canines and the premolars of the specimen are missing. Without analyzing and
measuring the teeths, it would make our job a bit difficult, but there is always alternative route to
analyze this mysterious specimen.
My partners and I shared each other hypotheses about mysterious specimen #6 that were trying to
figure it out. We observed every little feature that the specimen have and we re not were not sure
what hominin it is, we first guessed that this specimen is just another known fossil species in the
human lineage or it could be a new fossil species in the human lineage. Our main hypothesis that
were trying to find the answer is mysterious specimen #6 is a previous human species before
modern humans today, and How long does mysterious specimen #6 live? There are so many
questions about mysterious specimen #6 and were we going to get to the bottom of this by
analyzing the skull features, measuring the specimen with special tools and compare and contrast
to all hominin from the past to see anything similar and related to mysterious specimen #6.

The Paralysis Of Eveline
Eveline faces a difficult dilemma: remain home like a dutiful daughter, or leave Dublin with her
lover, Frank, who is a sailor. Eveline Hill sits at a window in her home and reminisce the times
when she as a child played with other children in a field which now has been developed with
new homes As Eveline was trying to make a major decision whether or not to move to Buenos
Ayres (escape) with Frank. She holds two letters, one to her father, one to her brother Harry. She
begins to favor the sunnier memories of her old family life, when her mother was alive and her
brother was living at home. She thought back of the moment she promised her mom that she will
put all her dedication in maintaining this home. And she reasons that her life at home and doing
all of those chores are hard, but perhaps not in the worst position her father isn t always mean,
after all. This memory is also important for another reason as it suggests that a bond (or
connection) still remains between Eveline, her siblings and her father. Despite how her father
treats her, Eveline still feels connected to him. This pushes her to escape from the fate and embark
on a new phase of life. Eveline s action, of dusting every week for so many years is significant as it
suggests repetition, doing the same thing, which in turn would suggest a paralysis within Eveline. It
is also significant that the dust remains. This suggests that no matter how much Eveline does while
at home nothing will change. Appears

Paving the Way: How Financial Aid Awareness Affects College Access and Success
Literature Review
October 2008 In a time of ever rising college costs, financial aid is critical to increase college
access and success. Federal, state, and institutional aid programs help to ensure that students can
afford higher education regardless of economic background. Financial aid is most effective when
students and families learn about it early enough to make the right choices and plans about high
school coursework, family savings, work and earnings, and college options. This literature review

A critical step in conducting research involving professional skepticism is a means of

2.48 in a short time. When looking at these numbers I can see a big change in liabilities from
2009 to 2011. In 2010 Green Mountain took on a lot more liabilities than in previous years, but in
2011 that risk really paid off. Someone must have told them it takes money to make money, because
that is exactly what they did with there extra liabilities. Although having too many liabilities can be
bad thing, so can having assets that aren t making more money for a company.

Research Paper On Askers
Because Meijer s is supposedly a big store, I made some tips for you! The first store is that Meijer s
is not big, just busy. These tips are important so please highlight and re read if necessary. First,
all around the store, there are red and black phones. The black is for employees, the red ones, are
for YOU. Almost every store is different depending on the location, for example in Ohio, or in
Grand RapidsMichigan. So, if you ask your greeter where a map is of the store you can see the
different departments, this is important because there are at least three red phones in each
department, as well as SOME price scan stations. Red phones help organize your questions to the
specific departments, for example if you wanta fishing license,... Show more content on

Leave your carts, NOT YOUR PERSONALS, but your carts with the greeter. Take the kids, or
leave your amigo, electric cart, with the greeter, grab your walker and then pee. Many vendors
come in the store, to fill ice or stock bread, or even give you free samples, they may be wearing
uniforms, but, THEY DON T WORK FOR MEIJER S. Refrain from asking where the butter is,
but you can ask for recipes! If you see a mess, don t ask them to clean it, use a red phone in your
area or ask the person in that department, this is important because we are a busy store. And we
wouldn t want to be taking care of a mess in grocery when we are supposed to be organizing the
flowers, right? Onto complaints, the best way to complain is to a store director, a cashier, or to
customer service. It is why we have it, among other things, to be honest we all care about your
complaints, but it is better from your mouth than ours. Fast lanes, there are ALWAYS,
ALWAYS, at most three employees working the fast lanes. LOOK AROUND, if your machine
is malfunctioning, or you need then to check an ID, be patient and wait. Don t ask someone
passing by, or even the greeters, just wait, their coming. The final big two tips, in general, are
amigos and blue carts. Where do I start, treat Meijer s with respect, please, don t push or leave carts
AND amigos all over the place. If the amigos are dead, ask an employee to call for help. DO NOT

The United States And The Islamic Republic Of Iran
The bilateral relationship between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran has dated
back to the mid 19th century when Iran was then recognized as Persia. For some time, through the
1800s and well into the 20th century, the two had a mostly positive relation. These positive
relations ended with the arrival of the 1979 Iranian revolution, which carried a heavy anti American
sentiment. The following three decades resulted in continuing degradation for the relationship
amongst the two nations. These relations digressed to a point where currently neither country has
an embassy or ambassador to the opposite country. At this time, the only influence Iranhas within

Economic Sanctions In the year 2015, trade between the two countries is all but nonexistent. The
United States has placed a multitude of sanctions on Iran because of a variety of reasons. For the
past thirty five years, the White House has issued executive orders that have continued to split the
two governments. Beginning in 1979, when radicals in Iran s capitol, Tehran, stormed the United
States Embassy and took American citizens hostage, executive orders have frequently been
handed down aimed to curb Iran s actions. In 1979, President Carter expressed that the situation
in Iran had deteriorated to a point where the nation s security, economy, and foreign policy were
in jeopardy. Because of this, Executive order 12170 was issued stating, (President Carter) hereby
order(s) blocked all property and interests in property of the Government of Iran, its
instrumentalities and controlled entities and the Central Bank of Iran which are or become subject
to the jurisdiction of the United States or which are in or come within the possession or control of
persons subject to the jurisdiction of the United States. 1 This order was the first of many that
would later be given which further separated the two countries. Following Carter s post Iranian
Revolution order, his successor, President Reagan issued Executive Order 12163 which, due to the

In this case study, AIR Speed Journey by Goldartt explained the transition of methodologies took
place by Naval Aviation Enterprises (NAE) in 2001. This transition was to achieve the Goal to
make the aircraft ready at the right time, right place and in the right configuration. To accomplish
this Goal, NAE was facing many troubles such as increased demand by 10%, cost cuts up to

Implementation of different methodology
In Air Speed Journey
A.The series form in which the methodologies were implemented and result achieved using them
are as follows.
1.Naval Air Station in San Diego first implemented the Theory of Constraints in 2002 which reduce
the repairs by 80%, maintenance by 15%, wait time by 95% and eliminated out of stock. Theory
of Constraints (TOC) was invented by Dr. Goldartt in his book The Goal which states that the
processes are interdependent and demand is variable, hence to achieve the Goal or profit,
integration of the processes is a most important step. In other words linking the supplier, processes
and customers to get faster, better and cheaper product. Theory of Constraints is used to see the
bottleneck which slows down the process and reorganizing them to reach a gain.
2.And so they implemented Lean in 2004, in their repair division which reduced workplace. Lean
manufacturing is applied to get rid of all non value added steps of the procedure so that providing
the best merchandise to clients. Lean was first invented by International Motor Vehicle Program but
Taiichi Ohno had already implemented Lean in Toyota Production system. Ohno eliminated seven
wastes such as overproduction, over processing, delay, inventories, defective parts, transportation
and movements. Lean consists of many tools such as just in time, Kanban and etc.

My Family Cultural Analysis
My family mainly originates from the U.K, predominantly Ireland. Both sets of my Grandparents
are mainly Irish but they more than likely have English and Scottish ancestry as their parents
were from the U.K which consist of Ireland, Scotland, and England. I myself like to think of
myself as Irish because, well, let s be honest, the Irish are pretty cool. This fondness of Ireland
helped me determine what images to use to represent my heritage and culture, these images consist
of the Irish flag, Shepard s Pie, an acoustic guitar, an electric guitar, and a rainy forest. I choose
these images because I thought they portrayed how I perceive my culture and heritage, beginning
with the guitars. My Mothers side of the familyholds a lot of musicians who played stringed
instruments such as the fiddle, banjo, or guitar. I myself play guitar and love stringed instruments,
especially ones in a traditional orchestra like double bass, cello, and violins, I also really like folk
music which primarily originates from Ireland.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

cooking ground beef in a Guinness stout with vegetables like corn, peas, and carrots mixed in

How Aristarchus Made A Large Jump From Terrestrial...
How Aristarchus made a large jump from terrestrial measurements of scale to the celestial is truly
impressive. Without any measures of the sizes of and distances to any celestial objects,
Aristarchus was able to measure both for the Moon. He was able to use something he knew about
the Earth and a bit of smart geometry to deduce the size of the Earths shadow at the distance of the
Moon. By watching the Moon go through the Earth s shadow which is formally known as a lunar
eclipse, Aristarchus could determine the ratio between the size of the shadow at the distance to the
Moon and the size of the Moon.
Aristarchus knew that on average two times a year, the surface of the full Moon becomes dark for
a period ranging up to around two hours. It was reasoned that during these times, the Moon was
passing through the shadow cast by the Earth, known as a lunar eclipse. The eclipse would only
occur during the full Moon because that s the time when the Moon is on the opposite side of the
Earth from the Sun. Aristarchus realized that the longest lunar eclipses must occur when the Moon
passes right through the center of the Earth s shadow, and so that the angular size of the Earth s
shadow could be measured by noting the difference in the position of the Moon before and after
the eclipse. He could then compare this angular size to the angular size of the Moon to get the ratio
between them. He used the formula Now by using the formula.
The moon could fit into earth roughly

Arguments Against Universal Health Care
In the United States many issues seem to arise during times of struggle and what some consider
unfairness. One of these being the topic of health care. As this problem popped up so did some
solutions did as well. One of these being a universal health care. That to some would seem to get
rid of all this unfair health care problem all together. However, others say that with a universal
health care, the costs would rise and the quality could rapidly degrade. Both of these sides show
very true factual evidence for their supporting claims.
As many people had supposed for quite a while now is the idea of a universal health care, an idea
of which is to give healthcare to all in a nation regardless if they pay for it or not. To some it
would completely and utterly get rid of all these bad incidents happening to many whom do not
have health care. It also would make it more equal, and instead of some getting health care,
everyone would have healthcare. There would be no need for any of these health problems most
poor and some middle class people have to face. Instead there would be health care for every
person in the United States. This idea would be highly beneficial to the poor and the ones who don
t have healthcare or simply cannot afford it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many who do not favor universal health care have some really valid and truthful points as to
why it would be a bad idea. As said the people who already have health care fear that the quality
of care would degrade and would make care quality worse. Others find it unfair to have to pay
for others who simply are too lazy or inconsiderate to work to get their own health care. As harsh
it that may sound it is considered true and would affect all those who already do pay for healthcare

In addition, Beacon needs to educate the staff on how to avoid discriminating or stereotyping
against this population. Beacon should have a policy and procedures pamphlet outlined and
attached to the agency manual on how to treat people with dignity and respect. Furthermore, The
Beacon should implement a service first policy that will enable them to offer services without
showing partiality to any gender. This change in policy and procedures will include acceptance
positive rules of the transgender population. This change will make it necessary for The Beacon
Day Center to receive additional funding through Gala that will allow an increase in training staff.
This change will assist with the restructuring of their current staff and implement roles that will
include all responsibilities. One of the barriers that might exist is effective communication for all
staff to become agents of change. But this problem could be handled by consistently offering
quarterly training to all employees avoid resistance to change. The managers and directors will

Examples Of Stereotypes In The Simpsons
One of the beloved grandfathers of television history has been Grandpa Abraham Simpson from
The Simpsons who demonstrates how we interact with the geriatric population in America.
Although Grandpa Simpson shows up in many gags throughout the series, I will be focusing on

Grandpa vs. Sexual Inadequacy focuses on the relationship between Grandpa Simpson and his son,
Homer, while he helps Homer s intimacy issues. The Front involves his grandchildren, Bart and
Lisa, using Abraham s name to submit scripts to their favorite cartoon. The Old Man and the C
Student showcases the other residents at Grandpa s retirement home where Bart is forced to
volunteer. These episodes hold accurate representations of our perception of the elderly. Often,
older characters on television shows are portrayed in a negative light and The Simpsonsare no

Introduction
The late twentieth century and early twenty first century trends towards the continuing integration
of the world economy have attracted the attention of geographers who seek to assess the impacts
that globalization processes have at various geographic scales.1 The banana has a rich history of
globalization, and for this reason, this essay will explore the commodity chain that shows the
trajectory that the banana takes in order to be produced in the Caribbean, Latin America and
elsewhere, then transported through the sea, next entering grocery stores throughout the world and

By 1993, the Banana Empire ceased to exist due to Panama Disease, ongoing labour issues, the rise
of new competition and the increased assertiveness of host country governments all contributed to
the growing intricacy of the industry. Nowadays, the modern banana farmer has been exposed to
many pesticides, which have led to adverse health conditions for the majority of workers but
working conditions and wages are on the rise currently. The introduction of fair tradebananas in
2004 was fundamental in bettering the working conditions for farmers and labourers.
Chiquita, the oldest banana transnational in Latin America was the primary target of banana worker
rights and environmental activists until 2001. The company has since teamed up with the
Rainforest Alliance to roll out the Alliance s standards to its banana farms in Latin America.6
Chiquita prides itself on its recent changes, which have involved revamping the company to
promote The Chiquita Difference ; this includes a philosophy of social responsibility, sustainability,
community involvement and food safety.7 These changes arose from the use of political activism
by consumers in response to poor workers rights, thus exemplifying the fact that people do realize
where their food is coming from and are willing to fight for those who create it. This shows that the

Although the early part of the personality era is important this was a building block that needed
expansion, so personality traits were incorporated to expand on the great man theory.
3.2 Trait Theory
Trait theory is similar in nature to that of the great man approach in that traits of personality are
considered to be inherent. Trait theory was explored in the early 20th century and was built on
from the great man theory. Tead (1929) discussed trait theory as someone who held a specific
group of traits that would evolve followers to complete a chosen task.
R. Bolden et al (2003) discussed that the trait approach stemmed from the great man approach
and that trait approach was common within the military and is still used as a set criteria today to
commission candidates. It s clear from the case study that Peter Ridge has quite a military style of
leadership of command and control style. Bass (1981) stated that leadership is still classified as a
critical factor in military success and has been continually recorded. Trait theories are qualities that
are within a human being which constitutes a leader. Stogdill (1974) spoke about there being a list
of leadership traits and related skills, he sees leaders as adaptable to situations, ambitious and
achievement orientated, assertive, energetic,

Opening Sequences Of The Odyssey And The Penelopiad
Each differing language characteristics can been seen in the opening sequences of The
Odyssey and The Penelopiad. The opening sequence of The Odyssey begins with Homer
making a plea to the Muses to help him compose his epic of Odysseus. Sing to me of the man,
Muse, the man of twists and turns driven time and again off course, once he had plundered the
hallowed heights of Troy. Many cities of men he saw and learned their minds, many pains he
suffered, heartsick on the open sea, fighting to save his life and bring his comrades home. But he
could not save them from disaster, hard as he strove the recklessness of their own ways destroyed
them all, the blind fools, they devoured the cattle of the Sun and the Sungod wiped from sight the

Where shall I begin? There are only two choices: at the beginning or not at the beginning. The
real beginning would be the beginning of the world, after which one thing has led to another;
but since there are differences of opinion about that, I ll begin with my own birth. My father was
Kin Icarius of Sparta. My mother was a Naiad. Daughters of naiads were a dime in a dozen in
those days; the place was crawling with them (Atwood, 33). Here Penelope s dialogue is very
much like that of how we speak in today s society. It s quite evident that Penelope is indifferent
to the beginning of the world and we begin to get a glimpse of her dislike for the gods, demi
gods, and nymphs. Atwood decides to take Penelope s opening monologue in a very different
approach than that of Homer s. Her use of everyday speech and un poetic way of describing the
gods through Penelope s voice, helps the readers identify themselves with Penelope and
sympathize with her. Atwood choose to use a form of language that helps the readers to be able to
identify with her characters in her work of fiction, whereas Homer used his epic to establish a
distance between the readers and his characters of the stories

Amish Funeral Home Essay
The aspects of an Amish funeral service are steeped in customs that vary largely from that of an
English funeral. Though the ideals and customs of an English funeral service change with the new
trends of the region. While the Amish funeral service has changed very little from the Amish
deviation from the Quakers. In most branches of the Amishchurch, the rituals and traditions
surrounding death are held in the highest regard. These sacred teachings are known to very few
members of the church; generally, by the bishops, or by the Amish funeraldirector. The funeral, as
seen from the English perspective, is a celebration of life or the mourning of a life; while, the
funeral seen from an Amish perspective, is a celebration of the gift of God.
In general, when a member of the Amish community dies, their body will be embalmed. Unlike
most of the more conservative religions, the Amish believe in using both arterial embalming (The
process of injecting chemicals into the arterial system of the body) and visceral embalming (The
process of injecting chemicals into the viscera or organs). In most modern circumstances, the
Amish family will use an English funeral home (There are VERY few Amish funeral home) for the

clergy will be informing the funeral director about the traditions and customs that MUST be

Analysis Of Lucozade And Visiting Hour
Recently I studied two poems with the same theme, Lucozade By Jackie Kay and Visiting Hour
By Norman McCaig. Both poets talk about death and by using a word set they create a mental
image of what is happening and this reminds me of times were I had to visit loved ones and how
emotional it was. The poem Lucozade was written by Jackie Kay, it is about a girl visiting her
mother in a hospital before she passes away. The poem talks about death but does so in a
humorous way, making jokes and poking fun at a traditional gifts given at hospitals did you
think you could cheer me up with a woman s own? An item given to hospital patients. The
mother believes they re making a big deal out this, because she does not want to come to the
realisation that he is dying. The daughter is scared her mother is going to die. She clears the
cupboard and waves her mother goodbye then walks home singing and old song. The poem
Visiting Hour was written by Norman McCaig, it is about a man visiting his mother in hospital.
This poem is a lot darker than the other and is not humorous, It uses a strong death related word
set to set a scene in the readers head. The man is fearful of what is happening to his mother, He
walks to her white cave of forgetfulness . He gets closer to her but never passing the distance of
pain. Distance shrinks until there is none left but the distance that neither she nor I can cross,
telling us in the end, we are all alone. The mother weak and exhausted smiles. On the first line of
Lucozade Jackie Kay tells us that the mother is not well and may be on medication by saying
high bed and sad Chrysanthemums . By using the word high bed we can presume the mother is
dying or on medication to stay alive, since high beds are found in hospitals and chrysanthemums
are a symbol of death and are given at funerals additionally the words die and sad are repeated
throughout the first stanza. We hear from the daughter that she is scared, Scared her mother will
die, this shows she cares for her. In the second stanza, the mother says she does not want Lucozade
to be brought to her. Lucozade is commonly brought to hospitals so her not wanting it tells us she
doesn t not want to face reality and is scared

The Aztecs Blood And Glory Summary

Analysis Of Kevin Hart Like Ride Along 2
Honestly, I m starting to wonder if there should be a law against creating sequels to horrible
predecessors. I know. I know. That s ridiculous. But that doesn t change the fact that nobody asked
for another Ride Along. The first film was cheesy, unimaginative, and the partnership between
Kevin Hart and Ice Cube was mediocre at best. At the same time, though the cop comedy managed
to gross a little more than $150 million worldwide, produced against a conservative budget of $25
million.
By definition, that is the recipe for a successful Hollywood production. Still, the reviews were
gruesome, and I don t exactly know anyone that said, Man, I can t wait for a Ride Along sequel.
Sure, there are probably people out there that love Ride ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In PG 13 films, like Ride Along 2, he relies upon nonsensical moments, like an alligator eating his
shoe or sticking his head into a ceiling fan, for lackluster laughs. Both of those scenes, I might add,
didn t even warrant a sympathy laugh, let alone the reaction it was going for.
While Kevin Hart flounders around in this sequel, identically to his role in the first film, Ice Cube
doesn t do much to add layers to his role, either with his character s continuous attempts to drum
up laughter with stern, smug sarcasm. Like Hart, I like Ice Cube, too. He s had a few memorable
roles here and there but he will obviously be remembered as one of the founding members of the
legendary, groundbreaking rap group, N.W.A. And, as much as his lyrics revolutionized the music
industry, his acting career isn t exactly wowing anyone at the moment.
On paper, Kevin Hart and Ice Cube should demonstrate an endless amount of playful and outlandish
chemistry. In reality, though they wish they could be as popular as other comedy cop duos with
Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill sticking out as the best in the business at the moment (in the 21
Jump Street which Ice Cube also stars in, and is rather hilarious more often than not). With that
said, the Hart/Cube partnership is fit to be retired despite its youth and

The world became an endless graveyard with millions of dead Christians strewn wherever they
had fallen. Mounds of dead bodies filled every vacant lot in every city and country, waiting to be
set aflame. Gathering dead Christians became the number one priority for the world. Once
again, mankind believed they were witnessing the supernatural powers of a madman. Soon the
sky above Jerusalem turned from blue to white because of the strangest phenomenon ever to

The Unethical Behavior of Biegler and McCarthy in Anatomy...
After reviewing the two scenes from an Anatomy of a Murder and the Maryland Rules of
Professional Conduct, it s clear that Biegler and McCarthy behaved unethically; because he
disclosed client information without consent and he indirectly imposed what defense Lieutenant
Manion should plea. In the first scene, Biegler and McCarthy are discussing Biegler s first visit
with Mr. Manion and whether or not he was going to take the case; McCarthy also proposes
Biegler guide Mr.Manion into a defense. In the second scene, Biegler meets with Mr.Manion for
the second time and he indirectly guides him into a plea of insanity. In each of these scenes, several
Maryland Rules of Professional Conduct were violated such as: Maryland Rule 16 812 (1.6) (a),
Maryland Rule 16 812 (1.6) (5) (b), Maryland Rule 16 812 (8.4) (a), and Maryland Rule 16 812
(8.4) (c).
Based on Biegler s background as a lawyer, he should have known the rules about disclosing and
discussing information about a client s case. In the first scene between Biegler and McCarthy,
information about the representation of Lieutenant Manion was discussed and McCarthy
suggested that Biegler give Mr. Manion options for a defense. Biegler told McCarthy that he did
not coach Mr. Manion into a fake story and he gave his opinion of Mr.Manions character as being
insolent and hostile; hence the reason why he felt he was not fit to take the case. This discussion
between Biegler and McCarthy violated the Maryland Rules of Professional

Throughout history, there are key inventions such as the telephone and the computer that
transcended the way people communicate and relay information with each other. The invention that
started this wave of faster and faster communication, the telegraph, proved to be revolutionary,
paving way to many of these efficient methods of communication in the United States. During the
late 19th century, the United States faced significant transformations culturally and socially with
the help of the Telegraph. The telegraph proved to play a significant role in the United States Civil

Archetypes In The Epic Of Gilgamesh
Archetypes reveal something of wherever or whomever they came from, and these can be
significant cultural values of that area or civilization. Most religious stories and mythologies have
some sort of similar root, some sort of global archetypes. Maynard James Keenan. The Ancient
Middle East have cultural values that are reflected in their stories. These cultural values are
comparative and can be used to connect civilizations like Egypt and Mesopotamia with one another.
The use of archetypes in Gilgamesh, Adoration of the Disk, and Genesis reveal the comparative
cultural values in the Ancient Middle East by identifying certain beliefs and ideas that the
Egyptians and Mesopotamians valued regarding their religion.

In Gilgamesh, Genesis and Adoration of the Disk, the archetype of the bird represents migration
and transformation. In Gilgamesh, there are three birds sent out in The Story of the Flood, a
raven, dove and swallow. All but the raven returns, in the Sumerian ancient epic of Gilgamesh,
as She saw the waters had retreated, she ate, she flew around, she cawed, and she did not come
back (42 43). This bird represents the negative of life, as hopelessness is present in the world. This
contrasts the flood story in Genesis where the dove that is sent out returns back after finding land.
This is not hopelessness, but the positivity of the returned hope after the flood. Adoration of the
Disk by Akhenaten uses chicks Whose breath is thine ... chirping its joy, And dancing on its small,
unsteady legs (54). The chicks happy attitude show that the Egyptians believe that there would
always be positive outlook as long as they were on the right side. This right side was the light of the
sun, the disk that Akhenaten is adoring. Thus, the duality in birds show that there was a positive
and negative in the cultures of Egyptians and

Conceptualize Sustainable Development
Topic: The politics of Sustainable Development
Dozen of years after the second millennium, people are witnessing a world with a high level of
complexities, trans boundary issues at a level of dysfunction that seem not to cease. Today,
humankind is said to have a tendency to produce what they do not necessarily consume, and
consume what they do not produce; as well as produce far more information than the capacity of
any individuals to absorb (Mebratu 1998, UNEP 2012). The urges for changes throughout historical
milestones and evolutions have led to a new, global concept Sustainable Development . Associating

Environmentalist viewpoints can be found through the notions of World Conservation Strategy for
instance (IUCN 1980), whilst the rationale of growth could be derived through Status quo idea.
Supporters of status quo believe that business is the driver of sustainability by providing
information, technology advances, and claim for no conflicts between market enlargement and
environmental stability (Hopwood, Mellor O Brien 2005). To reconcile these distinct ideas,
Mitcham (1995) stresses that sustainable development approach simply does not halt growth, but to
enable growth in a sustainable way.
Moreover, the ideas of sustainability are developed by principles set values and ethics on how
people regard development should be. Hopwood, Mellor O Brien (2005) identifies five main
principles based on equity; including futurity , social justice , geographical equity , procedural
equity and inter species equity . These principles do not only clarify the understanding of the term,
but to relate human equity with environment and ecology values. The ideological version comes up
with several new concepts, among which eco feminism and eco socialism are two of the most
significant. Eco feminism is about the linkage between feminism and ecological matters;
meanwhile, eco socialism assumes ecological crisis as a

  • 4. Literature Review On Gifted Education An Exploratory Literature Review: Trends in Early Childhood Gifted Education First Phase Research Results Introduction My interest gifted education started, when I reflected on my teaching experience and philosophy. Before start pursuing my master degree in the US, I was a kindergarten teacher. During my practice in a public school kindergarten classroom, I had a very bright student who immediately picked up cues that I gave about the activity of the day. She was quickly and correctly finishing the basic math activities. In addition, she was very creative during the art activities. She also demonstrated leadership skills among her classmates. While I was evaluating her, I attributed her success to her family environment. Compared to her classmates, she had very attentive parents. Moreover, she was the last child of the family and her older two siblings were academically successful role models for her. Most importantly, she also attended preschool before she started kindergarten; therefore, her performance was higher compared to classmates who did not have these same experiences. Once I become familiar with advance courses in gifted education, I now realize and feel my mistake, which was either not to consult schools guidance counselor or learn more how to engage her with different type of activities. Therefore, as a part of my professional development, I wanted to focus on the teacher role in the early childhood gifted education. However, I had very little knowledge about ... • 5. The French Revolution And French Revolutions Although the American and French revolutions both took place in the late 18th century, both fought for independence, and both portrayed patriotism, the revolutions are markedly different in their origins; one which led to the world s longest lasting democracy and the other to a Napoleonic Dictatorship. Political revolutions in America and France happened because people felt dissatisfied with the way their country was run. In North America they rebelled against rule from a foreign power, they wanted to rule themselves. In France the citizens executed their weak king and tried to introduce a democracy. Many features distinguish the French Revolution of English and American revolutions that preceded it. Finances: Both the American Revolution and the French Revolution were products of desperate economic conditions. France was having a budget crisis, they were bankrupt. Years of bad budgetary decisions and failed efforts to fix the problems. The king was forced to call together the estates general, a meeting of all three groups of the classes. During the meeting of the Estates General, the Third Estate spoke out on their unfair treatment. However, the nobles and clergy also felt that they too were being treated unfairly. The piece is currently located at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City and is found in Gallery 640 as part of the museum s collection of European paintings. Just as the title indicates, the painting s subject is the Blessed Virgin Maryholding her infant son JesusChrist, the prophesied Messiah of the Old Testament, while being crowned by angels. Atrocity Of Prejudice The American author and poet Maya Angelou once said, ВЁPrejudice is a burden that confuses the past, threatens the future and renders the present inaccessible.ВЁ Angelou conveys the true atrocity of prejudice with this statement, revealing it as an enemy of humanity. Harper Lee, another author of Angelou s period, also discusses prejudice in her novelTo Kill a Mockingbird. Lee masterfully touches on such a difficult topic in her novel by displaying multiple events to readers, as well as the effects they have on the characters, through the eyes of a young girl named Scout Finch. Some instances of prejudice and discrimination present in the novel are MaycombВґs treatment of Arthur ВЁBooВЁ Radley, Aunt AlexandraВґs perception of Walter Cunningham, and the manner in which Tom Robinson s trial was handled. The Theory Of Social Learning Theory This essay will demonstrate a knowledge and understanding and discuss the concept of social learning theory, whilst taking into consideration and explaining the way children learn and develop. This essay will focus on the overall concept of this theory and will explore the work of the theorist Albert Bandura and how he contributes to the role of the adult and their understanding of social learning. Social learning theory suggests that people learn from one another, this can be through observation, imitation, media and modelling. This theory is often known as the behaviourist theory and cognitive learning theory because it consists of using attention, memory, behaviour and motivation. Social learning theory advocates that individuals, especially children, imitate or copy modelled behaviour from personally observing others, the environment and the mass media . (Gray and MacBlain, 2015). This is stating that a child will look up to someone they respect and class them as models, the child may imitate their behaviour and the way they act. This means that not only are elections held on the national level, but every year state wide elections exist where different issues are voted upon in state wide referendum. Although these occur every year, mainly they have been seen as only being important, and therefore watched by the people within that state, rather than nationally. • 15. Martin Guerre Research Paper The story of Martin Guerre shows how easily families were disrupted during the course of foreign wars. Guerre grew up in a small town where he eventually was betrothed to his wife Bertrand. After an argument with his father, Guerre decided to leave for Spain where he served in their army during the war. After 8 years away at war, much happened to Guerre and his familyback home including the death of his parents, and a man pretending to be him that had nearly the entire village fooled for a short period of time. There are a few reasons why foreign war can be so disrupting to families during the mid 1500 s. The first is the lack of communication possible in that era, Guerre chose not to write to his family back home, but at the same time two way communication was still very challenging during that time period. While Martin was at war, the only thing his family could do was wait for his return, dead or alive. The other main issue at hand was how long wars took during this time period. Martin was gone for 8 years during this time. That is 8 years of complete change and in Martin s case, utter disruption of his family. It is easy to see how foreign wars during this time period could cause such disruption and dismay to families. Eveline Hill sits at a window in her home and reminisce the times when she as a child played with other children in a field which now has been developed with new homes As Eveline was trying to make a major decision whether or not to move to Buenos Ayres (escape) with Frank. She holds two letters, one to her father, one to her brother Harry. She begins to favor the sunnier memories of her old family life, when her mother was alive and her brother was living at home. She thought back of the moment she promised her mom that she will put all her dedication in maintaining this home. And she reasons that her life at home and doing all of those chores are hard, but perhaps not in the worst position her father isn t always mean, after all. This memory is also important for another reason as it suggests that a bond (or connection) still remains between Eveline, her siblings and her father. Despite how her father treats her, Eveline still feels connected to him. This pushes her to escape from the fate and embark on a new phase of life. Eveline s action, of dusting every week for so many years is significant as it suggests repetition, doing the same thing, which in turn would suggest a paralysis within Eveline. Without any measures of the sizes of and distances to any celestial objects, Aristarchus was able to measure both for the Moon. He was able to use something he knew about the Earth and a bit of smart geometry to deduce the size of the Earths shadow at the distance of the Moon. By watching the Moon go through the Earth s shadow which is formally known as a lunar eclipse, Aristarchus could determine the ratio between the size of the shadow at the distance to the Moon and the size of the Moon. Aristarchus knew that on average two times a year, the surface of the full Moon becomes dark for a period ranging up to around two hours. It was reasoned that during these times, the Moon was passing through the shadow cast by the Earth, known as a lunar eclipse. The eclipse would only occur during the full Moon because that s the time when the Moon is on the opposite side of the Earth from the Sun. Aristarchus realized that the longest lunar eclipses must occur when the Moon passes right through the center of the Earth s shadow, and so that the angular size of the Earth s shadow could be measured by noting the difference in the position of the Moon before and after the eclipse. He could then compare this angular size to the angular size of the Moon to get the ratio between them. He used the formula Now by using the formula. The moon could fit into earth roughly ... Examples Of Stereotypes In The Simpsons One of the beloved grandfathers of television history has been Grandpa Abraham Simpson from The Simpsons who demonstrates how we interact with the geriatric population in America. Although Grandpa Simpson shows up in many gags throughout the series, I will be focusing on three episodes where he and the other senior citizens of Springfield are involved in the main plot. Grandpa vs. Sexual Inadequacy focuses on the relationship between Grandpa Simpson and his son, Homer, while he helps Homer s intimacy issues. The Front involves his grandchildren, Bart and Lisa, using Abraham s name to submit scripts to their favorite cartoon. The Old Man and the C Student showcases the other residents at Grandpa s retirement home where Bart is forced to volunteer. These episodes hold accurate representations of our perception of the elderly. Often, older characters on television shows are portrayed in a negative light and The Simpsonsare no exception. These characters are used in gags to exaggerate common stereotypes we see in the elderly such as making irrational demands or their apparent forgetfulness. • 44. Analysis Of Lucozade And Visiting Hour Recently I studied two poems with the same theme, Lucozade By Jackie Kay and Visiting Hour By Norman McCaig. Both poets talk about death and by using a word set they create a mental image of what is happening and this reminds me of times were I had to visit loved ones and how emotional it was. The poem Lucozade was written by Jackie Kay, it is about a girl visiting her mother in a hospital before she passes away. The poem talks about death but does so in a humorous way, making jokes and poking fun at a traditional gifts given at hospitals did you think you could cheer me up with a woman s own? An item given to hospital patients. The mother believes they re making a big deal out this, because she does not want to come to the realisation that he is dying. The daughter is scared her mother is going to die. She clears the cupboard and waves her mother goodbye then walks home singing and old song. The poem Visiting Hour was written by Norman McCaig, it is about a man visiting his mother in hospital. This poem is a lot darker than the other and is not humorous, It uses a strong death related word set to set a scene in the readers head. The man is fearful of what is happening to his mother, He walks to her white cave of forgetfulness . He gets closer to her but never passing the distance of pain. Distance shrinks until there is none left but the distance that neither she nor I can cross, telling us in the end, we are all alone. The mother weak and exhausted smiles. On the first line of Lucozade Jackie Kay tells us that the mother is not well and may be on medication by saying high bed and sad Chrysanthemums . By using the word high bed we can presume the mother is dying or on medication to stay alive, since high beds are found in hospitals and chrysanthemums are a symbol of death and are given at funerals additionally the words die and sad are repeated throughout the first stanza. We hear from the daughter that she is scared, Scared her mother will die, this shows she cares for her. In the second stanza, the mother says she does not want Lucozade to be brought to her. The Ancient Middle East have cultural values that are reflected in their stories. In Gilgamesh, there are three birds sent out in The Story of the Flood, a raven, dove and swallow. All but the raven returns, in the Sumerian ancient epic of Gilgamesh, as She saw the waters had retreated, she ate, she flew around, she cawed, and she did not come back (42 43). This bird represents the negative of life, as hopelessness is present in the world. This contrasts the flood story in Genesis where the dove that is sent out returns back after finding land.
