What are some strategies you would use to increase referrals to your ASC while maintaining high
patient satisfaction scores?
Another challenge facing ambulatory surgery centers is the recruitment of new physicians.
Following a national trend, many local hospitals and health systems are purchasing physician
practices, which could eventually lead to doctors referring surgical cases to a hospital s same day
surgery department. Assuming there is ample opportunity to increase surgical volume, how do you
intend to recruit physicians to practice via your ASC? What are some strategies/offerings you could
employ?
The ASC you are currently managing is experiencing out of network challenges. Additionally, the
proposed reimbursement rates from payers do not match Medicare rates for your market. Most
of your ASC contracts are based on the Medicare fee schedule and because many of your
surgeries are not on that schedule, you have to negotiate a fee schedule on a case by case basis.
What strategies could you employ as you work with payors to contract for reasonable rates that
could save you both money in the short term?
In this changing environment, you are required to do more with less. Reimbursement rates are
declining; supply and implant costs, taxes, utilities, rent, salaries and benefits and other operating
costs are increasing and there are more regulatory requirements i.e.,

Essay about Medical Experiments on Animals Create Abuse...
The Screams Behind the Creams:
An Analysis of Vivisection in the Medical Industry
19.5 million animals are killed every year due to different experiments being tested on the animals.
Vivisection is the use of live animals during operation for scientific research. Such animals may
include: dogs, cats, primates, guinea pigs, and hamsters. One of the most common forms of
vivisection is the experimentation for medical purposes such as making new medicines. The use of
animals in the medical industry should be prohibited, in order for the industries to stop abusing the
animals and causing them to suffer.
When scientists experiment on animals many precautionary measures are disregarded and therefore

In addition to the torment of the actual experiments, animals in laboratories are deprived of
everything that is natural and important to them they are confined to barren cages, socially
isolated, and psychologically traumatized (Animal Experiments: Overview). The animals have
their entire natural habitat taken away from them while being tested. Without their normal
surroundings, it is hard for them to behave and live like their species. If a person were to have all
of their possessions taken away, they would be inferior and victimized. The animals feel this way.
Scientists take the animals for granted and forget that the animals have feelings too. The habitats
that the facilities provide for the animals could be viewed as poorly as the quality of treatment for
animals The environments of the facilities used to house the animals do not correspond with the
environments that the animals would live in, in the wild. One of the criteria a vivisection
laboratory must follow is to provide ethologically appropriate facilities (i.e., as would occur in their
natural environment) for those chimpanzees... (NIH to Reduce Significantly the Use of
Chimpanzees in Research). The facilities that the chimpanzees are in must match the environment
they would be in if they were in the wild. This criteria helps to eliminate the abuse of the animals,
however not all facilities are required to have the animals in their own habitat like

`` Comfort Me With Apples `` By Tracy Daugherty
If you ever die in Houston (Rough Draft)
In the short story Comfort me with Apples by Tracy Daugherty the theme of death transpires
throughout the story. Daugherty developed a constant theme of sorrow and unfortunateness
through the characters, places and events, which all were ultimately affected by death. Although,
countless readers of Comfort me with Apples would suggest that the story is centralized by another
theme, many would agree that the theme of death in the story showcases how different characters
cope with death and the effects it has on the human condition, by examining how George coped
with the death of his wife, how death affected the Zamora family and how the bayou represented
death in every aspect when portrayed.
Undoubtedly with many untimely deaths, such as automobile accidents, survivors are often left
with survivors guilt and have to find ways to coupe death, as George did in the story. The tragic
accident that killed George s wife and her parents left him in disarray, but he persevered by
holding on to the memories of his wife, helping others and by staying busy throughout story.
George did not feel sorry for his self or succumb to moping around and lying in bed all day, as
many do when coping with death. For instance, George spends his days helping and interviewing
the Zamora and Thout families, he brings them food, offers advice and ultimately shows
compassion for both families. Additionally, he keeps close relationships with his friends

Compare And Contrast The 1920s And The Roaring 20 s
Roaring 20 s v.s. Modern day Although our current generation has vastly progressed and advanced
since the roaring 20s, there are countless attributes in which both eras directly resemble one another.
These periods were the focal points of advancements in technology, women s rights, and culture.
The groundbreaking advances in technology for both generations had sparked a whole new outlook
on our nation s future ahead. Women s rights were also a major turning point for education and the
workforce, both in the 1920s and the modern day. Lastly, the influence of many individuals in the
cultural communities of the roaring 20s and the modern day have greatly impacted the foundations
of art, music, and sports. Without a doubt, the way of life for individuals in both eras have
extremely similar concepts, where both seem to focus on establishing a progressive and strongly
developing future. Technology has been the focal point in both generations, establishing many
revolutionary changes that altered the nation s future ahead. The 1920 s were the beginning of a
new age, originating the inventions of the television, the Ford Model T. automobile, the Jukebox,
and many other essential items. The Model T. created by Henry Ford changed the whole aspect of

First Amendment Right To Wield His Banner Essay
Did Frederick have a First Amendment right to wield his banner, and was Principal Morse in the
right to confiscate his banner? After reviewing the facts of the case, it is without a doubt that
Morse is innocent, of any violations of Frederick s First Amendment rights and she had every
right to confiscate and punish Frederick for his actions. Joseph Frederick, a senior at Juneau
Douglas High School, attended the school approved and school monitored social event of the
Olympic Torch Relay. Frederick was late to school that day, and upon arrival, he joined his
friends (all but one were students at JDHS) across the street from the school to watch the event.
He and his friends unfurled a 14 foot banner with the phrase, BONG HITS 4 JESUS Upon... Show

This banner to some could be seen as offensive, and Morse has the choice to either take action, or
to allow this banner and face consequences. She chose to take action, and uphold the school s
policy. Fredericks banner violated the school s policy. It promoted the use of illegal drugs, and
although Frederick arrived late to school, he still arrived at a school event, monitored by school
officials, who in turn were in charge of him. Schools have the right to confiscate any item that
violates their policies, and Frederick s displaying of his banner was violating a policy. Although
Frederick does have the First Amendment right to wield his banner, the school policy clearly
states that nothing promoting illegal drugs is allowed. If Frederick was attending an event not
approved or monitored by the school, he would have been free to display whatever he wished. Just
because Frederick had the first Amendment right, schools do not have to tolerate any actions or
expressions that could contribute to any dangers of their students, such as illegal drug use. In
conclusion, Principal Morse had the right to take away Frederick s banner, and is innocent of any
violation of Frederick s First Amendment

you get hurt (upper or lower body) determines if it is a lower or upper extremity injury.. First of all,
there are the lower extremities which vary in seriousness but all deal with the lower body. In this
category, strains and sprains, cartilage tears and ACL sprains, and fractures and contusions are all
taken care of differently. For example, whilst ACL sprains are mostly very serious to athletes and
can require surgery, strains are in the same exact category yet never require surgery. Following are
the Overuse Lower Extremity Injuries which have more to do with how much an athlete works then
what happens in game. Shin Splints, Patellar Tendinitis (knee pain), and Achilles Tendinitis (ankle
pain) are all very common especially in high schools where practices occur almost daily and as a
result, bones and muscles are overused. Stress added onto an athlete because of overwork can

Berkeley s Argument For The Dismissal Of Material Objects...
To be just is to be perceived , or as Irish philosopher George Berkeley prefers to put it, esse est
percipi . In this argument, Berkeley details extensively how material objects, as humans have
come to know them, do not exist. Berkeley uses a series of premises to aid in the elimination of
skepticism surrounding the existence of the world humans have come to know and grow fond
of. At first read, Berkeley s conclusion that the abstract ideas of substance, matter, or any
physical objects simply are not real is very hard to grasp when humans have based their
justifications on what is real versus not real on their own senses, and the validation of other
people. However, Berkeley does an excellent job of making an argument one cannot refute. In
order to fully understand Berkeley s argument for the dismissal of material objects, one must
understand his preceding argument on abstract ideas. According to Berkeley, the existence of
abstract ideas is actually a myth. Humans tend to generalize concepts, such as the general idea of
a table, a car, or a triangle, for example. However, Berkeley claims in his argument that there is
no explainable way to have a general idea of anything. So if someone tells another to think of a
table, that person will have a very specific picture of a very specific table maybe a brown dining
table with large, carved wooden legs, or a plastic folding table. There is not one table that has all
of the characteristics of a table and none of them at the

of the gums,) periodontal disease (disease of the gums,) and/or oral cancer. Prior to getting this
done, the hygienist goes over your medical history, taking notes about any heart problems, diabetes,

larger pieces of tartar. This instrument also sprays mists of water to wash away the leftover debris.
Once the hygienist removes the larger pieces of tartar, they will switch to a hand instrument called

smaller pieces of tartar and plaque. Each tooth is done individually to ensure that all bacteria,
plaque, and tartar is sufficiently removed. Once the hygienist is finished with the past step and

Proteins, Macromolecular Polymers, Built Up Of Chains
Introduction Proteins are macromolecular polymers, built up of chains of repeating units called
amino acids. There are twenty different naturally occurring amino acids, all of which have the
vital amino ( NHв‚‚) and carboxylic acid ( COOH) groups bonded to the central carbon atom, as
well as an R group specific to that amino acid. Proteins are versatile and useful molecules, they can
be used in many different roles in the body. For example, the catalysis of biological reactions, the
transmission of messages around the body and the transportation of molecules (eg. the
transportation of oxygen by haemoglobin). Proteins are coded for by the sequence of nucleotide
bases in the DNA sequence of genes specific to the proteinmolecule in question. This sequence of
bases is copied in the process of transcription which takes place in the nucleus of the cell. The
copied sequence then undergoes post transcriptional modification. This allows the introns (which
are of no use in translation) to be removed from the sequence and the exons to be organised into
the correct sequence to code for a specific protein. This modified sequence is then used in the
process of translation to code for the amino acid sequence of the protein. Translation takes place in
the ribosomes of the cell and is the process which results in the final formation of the linear
polypeptide chain of the protein. This polypeptide chain is the basic primary structure of the
protein. Proteins have four basic levels of

Water Usage Of The Refugee Settlement Essay
Intro The Zambian Refugee Settlement in Mayukwayukwa, which established by the United
Nations in 1966, currently has no system for harvesting rain water or for storing water in bulk.
Zambia has a monsoonal climate thus it receives all of its rain water in one small section of the
year and is dry and arid for the rest. This review will focus specifically on the water usage of the
refugee settlement. This area of research will prove to be invaluable for the specifications of the
water harvesting and bulk storage system as it will be the basis for which the required volumes of
water are calculated. The development of the Mayukwayukwa settlement will be stunted if they do
not have access to sufficient amounts of water for the refugees who live there or for the crops and
animals. The objectives of this paper are to assess the current water usage of the Mayukwayukwa
Refugee Settlement and to predict what the minimum volume is that will meet their basic
requirements. The questions that I intend to answer are: What is the current water usage of the
refugee settlement in Mayukwayukwa? What is the minimum volume that will meet the basic
requirements of the people in the refugee settlement? An accurate data set of water usage of the
Refugee Settlement in Mayukwayukwa is impossible to find as there have been no previous
attempts to measure it for any reason. The total water usage of the Mayukwayukwa Refugee
Settlement is 64,240,000 Litres/Year. This total can be

Antononia s Personality Of Antonia By Willa Cather
Option 4 Activity 1.
I think that Willa Cather admired Antonia s personality because of her strong loyal spirit. Although
she was challenged in many ways, she never backed down from a fight. Her father s death, her
pregnancy and abandonment, and her situation at the Harlings were only temporary setbacks in her
life. She thrived in anyway she could.
Even though Antonia is headstrong and high spirited, Cather seems to admire this about her. I
was thinking, as I watched her, how little it mattered about her teeth, for instance. I know so
many women who have kept all the things that she had lost, but whose inner glow has faded.
Whatever else was gone, Antonia had not lost the fire of life. Even after Cather compares
Antonia s impulsiveness to the anxiousness of Jim, Antonia always seems to come out on top.
Despite Antonia challenging him in every turn, Jim admires these qualities about Antonia. I d

macro to micro category, each sociological theory concentrated on one major problem of society
and then went on to explain what would have to be done within individuals in order to achieve
social progress. Durkheim s focus was upon the division of labor being the primary cause of social
problems (Berger 123). For Du Bois, the concentration was on racial issues; I have faith in the

Lenin was very close to the Webb s and they all shared similar theories. These people were more
politically minded. Similar to Durkheim s ideas of collective consciousness, Lenin believed
that the ideas of the ruling class became the ideas of the masses (Berger 111). Lenin focused on
societal groups and how the individual is stuck within their class. He believed that the working
class was being exploited and that society must work towards eliminating this confusion of who
should be in charge by forcing the working class to prevail. B. Webb felt there was a relationship
between crime poverty. She focused on politics as being the reason for poverty. She said, One
must remedy the political order to help poor people.... It was the structure of society that was at
fault, not the individual (Berger 130). The next category, macro and micro, was a group in and
of itself. Only one sociologist fell into this division. The theories that defined this category
oscillated between the effects of society on the individual and visa versa, the effect the individual
on society. Simmel blatantly says, My view is somewhere in the middle (Berger 94). Simmel s
studies were often those of ordinary things people do in the daily routine of life. He was interested

The Importance Of Looking Before You Leap Essay
The Importance of Looking Before You Leap Media portrays romantic relationships as a
whirlwind of emotions that ends in a happily ever after in the course of a few days; children s
movies are a larger perpetrator of this idea. But how accurate is this to real life relationships?
Research, including John Van Epp s book How to Avoid Falling in Love with a Jerk, tells us that a
healthy relationship is built on more than the initial emotions we feel. In chapter one of How to
Avoid Falling in Love with a Jerk, Epp discusses the importance of the love is blind phenomenon
where we either one, don t know how to identify predictors of relationship dissatisfaction or two,
become so attached to someone that we minimize predictors in the belief that things will get better.
The love is blind phenomenon causes discourse between the heart and mind, two things that need to
be harmonious in order for a healthy relationship. Epp also discusses the predictors of
(dis)satisfaction in order to find a partner that complements us and identify things that could result
in potential problems in the relationship. For the first chapter, I found the predictors to be the most
interesting point in this chapter. Epp identified five categories that seemed to play a large role in
marital satisfaction and they are compatibility potential, relationship skills, patterns from other
relationships, family patterns and background, and character and conscience traits. Compatibility
potential is the similarities

Make America Great Again Kevin Van Valkenburg Analysis
Kevin Van Valkenburg s multiple articles on New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady are
unique due to how they humanize a polarizing star. Ever since his breakout 2001 season, where
the Patriots defeated the St. Louis Rams in Super Bowl XXXVI, Brady has adhered to the policy
of the Patriot Way, where players under head coach Bill Belichick and owner Robert Kraft reveal
next to nothing to the media and the public eye. As Brady has gotten older, though, more of his
private life, opinions, and interests have come to the light. Van Valkenburg reports these details a
bit differently than pouncing on things like Brady s Make America Great Again hat. Rather, he

Essay about A Partial Rememberance of a Puerto Rican...
In A Partial Remembrance of a Puerto Rican Childhood, Judith Cofer accomplishes three
powerful achievements: she gives details on the stories of her family experiences, shows her
family stories in a strong imaginative language, and points out how family stories can take over
a person s life. This essay seems to be very tricky because she goes from one story to another.
Cofer s claim would be very difficult to understand if she started with one story; instead, she should
finish explaining the initial story before moving on to the next one. Instead, Cofer shows how a
womancan potentially go crazy if her man mistreats her.

This is why Cofer explains women would be together, so they can listen to each other s
problems. Later, they talk about her grandfather instead of discussing how women are supposed
to tell their stories. At the end of paragraph, the author concludes with this room was furnished
with several mahogany rocking chairs, and carved rocker that passed down to Mama at the
death of her mother (66). The women sitting in the room with rocking chairs, tell stories to each
other about their mothers. The chairs are passed down from previous generations. I think Cofer
wants the present generation to learn about the previous generation to pass on to the future
generation. In paragraph 3, she gives us a good example how a man could leave a girl standing at
the church altar with a bouquet of fresh flowers in her hands and disappear off the face of the earth
(67). Men seem to make wrong decisions by leaving a girl behind and don t care what will or may
happen to the girl. Men are tired of female drama, so she decides to leave it all behind him. In
Paragraph 5, she explains how marriage was not something men would hope for but to pay for
privilege of children (67). Men don t care if they find the right women for marriage as long the
women can produce children for them. Men don t want to settle down for only one woman but
many women. She wants people to find out their hidden identity in the future. Kate married at the

Analysis Of Joachim Patinir s Triptych, The Penitence Of...
Netherlandish use of triptychs three distinct art pieces that simultaneously exist as individual
images and as a collective picture usually were presented as devotional images and altarpieces.
Joachim Patinir s triptych, The Penitence of Saint Jerome (c. 1512 1515, Metropolitan Museum of
Art, NY), employs both the same form of traditional triptychs and the Netherlandish tradition of
extended panoramic landscapes; however, the triptych breaks traditional convention. The three
separate panels share the same landscape which allows the figures to exist in the same pictorial
space. This maintains an unbroken continuation of the landscape, which adds not only to the
content within a single panel, but to the entire narrative of the triptych. Yet, each individual panel is
also worthy of its own analysis and discussion. The left panel depicts the first of three saints, Saint
John the Baptist, in the midst of his signature baptizing of Christ. A river flows from the furthest
reaches of the landscape down to the bottom frame, with Christ standing thigh deep in the water, a
dove alighting from Godperched in the clouds in the top left. Saint John kneels over him on the
riverbank while a group of people huddle in the distance behind the baptism scene. In traditional
style, the triptych simultaneously depicts a central scene as well as past and future narrative events
present here as Saint John preaching chronologically before the actual baptism of Christ. The
central, larger panel

Next you will see how Thoreau and Emerson are clear examples of Bright Romanticism. The
inclusion of positive view of mankind that is part of Bright Romantic poets can be found in both
Emerson and Thoreau. To start off would be Ralph Waldo Emerson. A author that echoes my
statement can be found in Guidepost written by Ptolemy Tompkins titled under The Original
Positive Thinker Ralph Waldo Emerson. America s original positive thinker, Emerson was a
tireless promoter of the basic transcendentalist idea that human beings are larger infinitely larger
than they think they are. A man, he wrote, is the facade of a temple wherein all wisdom and all
good abide. What we need to do is overcome the self imposed habits of thought that prevent us
from fully realizing this potential. Or as Emerson put it, The only sin is limitation. Emerson
showed his positive view of mankind through his ideas of anything can be change. Where nothing
is impossible where you can transcend through anything and become more. Another source of
information is found in his most famous book self reliance a book the embodies the title but a
quote that can exemplify his thoughts and writers are Be yourself; no base imitator of another, but
your best self. There is something which you can do better than another. Listen to the inward voice

Nelson on Descartes s Theory of Perception and Judgment
Nelson on Descartes?s Theory of Perception and Judgment
ABSTRACT: One tension in Descartes?s account of human error stems from the idea that we may
be faulted for our acts of will, despite the fact that God is our omnipotent and omniscient creator. In
the present essay, I describe a second tension in Descartes?s account of human error. After
describing the tension, I consider Alan Nelson?s characterization of the means by which
Descartes?s intended to relieve it. Although Nelson s interpretation is almost correct, I think that it
obscures some of the interesting details of Descartes?s theory of perception and judgment. These
details are revealed by the taxonomy of sensory responses that Descartes articulates in the Sixth Set
of Replies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In cases of false perceptual judgment, is it not the faculty of intellect that so seductively offers up
false propositions whose subject matter so clearly concerns our environs? As Descartes himself
concedes, the objects of perception include the ideas of size, shape, and motion, and of other
properties that are referred to objects outside of the mind.2 If the will and intellect, respectively,
contribute the neustic and phrastic components of judgment, then it appears that the intellect (and
hence God) is blameworthy in cases of erroneous perceptual judgment.
II.
In his paper, Descartes?s Ontology of Thought, Alan Nelson attempts to give an interpretation of
Descartes?s theory of perception and judgment that extricates Descartes from the tension associated
with explaining human error.3 On Nelson?s interpretation, Descartes maintained that false
perceptual judgments are ultimately the result of confused ideas, which have their origin in past
determinations of the will. In turn, Nelson supposes that confused sensory ideas can subsequently
come to be the customary result of the impact of external objects, and thereby result in the
spontaneous dispensing of false propositions by the intellect.
Nelson?s interpretation has a lot going for it. First, it appears to relieve the apparent tension in
Descartes?s account of error. Indeed, by characterizing false perceptual judgment as the result of
confused ideas and tracing the source

This theory considers external factors, parents, and society in the development of personality from
childhood to adulthood. He developed a series of eight stages that he believed everyone went
through over their lifetime. The third stage is the preschooler: initiative vs. guilt. This is the
stage where the child began to find purpose. Erikson described that by the age of 3, children
began to deal with conflict and have a desire to gain independence. Josiah definitely went
through this stage. At the age of 3, Josiah began to explore indoor and outdoor activities and let
his interests be the guide to what he would pursue. By kindergarten, Josiah wanted to pick out
his own clothes and wanted to choose what he would eat for lunch. Josiah and I were able to
balance his decisions and my rules by compromising. I was able to pick out two outfits of my
choice but allow Josiah to pick from those two choices so that he had some sort of independency. I
also noticed that Josiah begin to interact with his peers better. He was able to help make up games

purposefulness, trying new activities, trying out new skills, getting more involved with peers, and
conscience development. Guilt, on the other hand, results in an overly strict superego related to

The Cloning Of Human Cloning
Technology is advancing at a greater rate than anyone could have imagined, it is said that the first
person to live up to 1,000 years old is alive today. However, many humans have a fear that this
power of creation is fashioning an earthy trinity of man, science, and technology. Many of those
who believe and fear this idea are apprehensive of various upcoming technological advances. After
the first successful cloningexperiment of a sheep, Dolly, scientists have looked into human cloning
and the benefits it would offer humanity. Cloning of humans would give parents who are infertile
the possibility to have a child that would be biologically theirs and if they wish theirs partners.
Additionally, cloning would help aid people who are sick. Thru cloning humans, doctors would be
able to have a perfect organ transplant or bone marrow donor. Furthermore, the advancement in
cloning would generate an evolution in genetic research, helping clone identical cells and tissue
along with reproducing human organs identical to the one the patients needs with their own DNA.
Under a utilitarian stance, it is morally correct for us to conduct human cloning because it benefits
the greater good. Human cloning would not undermine God or create an uneven advantage to those
cloned; it will only help create advances in our society and help save more human lives. Human
cloning should be permitted under regulations that check where the child is going. One of the
disadvantages of cloning humans is

Questions On Fourth Amendment Jurisprudence
Fourth Amendment jurisprudence is primarily concentrated in four areas: 1) defining searches ; 2)
the Warrant Requirement, in which warrantless searches are semantically precluded except in
specific and tightly constricted situations; 3) the Probable Cause Requirement, whose exclusive
provisions are closely associated with the Warrant Requirement s proscription of police inquiries
into same; and, 4) the exclusionary rule, which presumptively excludes any information or evidence
gathered in violation of the preceding two (Rickless, 2005). The Court has continued to delineate
areas, which fall outside the parameters of the restrictions placed upon government officials through
the Fourth Amendment. The Court has ruled that the areas carved out which include exceptions to
the basic tenets of the Fourth Amendment, commonly known as warrantless searches, may be
conducted if circumstances are such that the interests of society outweigh the invasiveness of the
action. The Court has have recognized special situations in which warrants were not required,
including: border searches; consent searches; container searches; exigent circumstances; searches
incident to a lawful arrest; plain view; special needs; stop and frisk; and inventory searches. The
Court has ruled that the areas carved out which include exceptions to the basic tenets of the Fourth

The Cask Of Amontillado Violence Essay
Violence exists as a key component in various literature. An example of such literature is Edgar
Allen Poe s The Cask of Amontillado. The short story Poe had written involved an intricate murder
scheme, where the victim would be lured into a corner of a labyrinth of catacombs, chained to the
wall, and then sealed off with a brick wall. While many would not consider this violenceby any
conventional means, it is still violence Poe had written into the story to contribute to the overall

The Cask of Amontilladoshould be emphasized. As soon as Montresor and Fortunado both step into

As mentioned previously, Montresor leading Fortunado into the end of the catacomb and
walling him in a small niche is an act of violence in itself, for obvious reasons. Violence is an
integral part of The Cask of Amontillado, as it contributes to the macabre mood in the story.
Violence also plays a pivotal role in the setting of the passage. The motto of Montresor s family
is Nemo me impune lacessit, meaning, No one provokes me with impunity. From this, Montresor
s motive for murder becomes clear: some time in the past, his family was attacked in some form,
upsetting him, and driving him into killing Fortunado to live up to his family s motto. Violence
is also portrayed literally in his family coat of arms, which displays a large human foot crushing a
serpent biting down on the heel in the midst of a blue field. In short, violence provides the

Pontius Pilate Influence On Jesus Plate
Pontius Pilate was a Roman governor who overlooked Judea. To me, he was made out to seem
like a weak leader in the gospels, however in all actuality, he was a harsh and strong governor. He
could arguably be considered the single man who changed history as we know it. The gospels do
not explain much about Pilate and his background. The only time he was really introduced was
during the trial of Jesus. He was acknowledged a few times to show he was the one who followed
through with the crucifixion, and then he ceased to be brought back up again. However, the book
Pontius Pilateby Paul L. Maier thoroughly and adequately illustrates Pilate s life before and after
the life changing verdict. This was a fascinating read that really captivated my interest. It was long

I never understood how serious the division was but Pontius Pilate helped inform me of the
magnitude. There was serious tension since Pilate was governor over Jews and that ultimately
affected his decisions. He went so far as to use Jesus being on trial as a way to manipulate the
Jews to admit they had no king but Caeser. This was a confidence booster for Pilate because it
reaffirmed his authority of Rome. Not surprisingly, he didn t stop there. Pilate made sure the
Jews felt guilty about the crucifixion. It was said that Pilate washed his hands clean of Jesus
blood. After, the Jews replied by saying, His blood be on us and on our children (238). Pilate

School Start Times And High Quality Sleep
The American education system is diverse and unique, and one aspect that varies wildly across
the country is school start times. Deciding the start times for schools is dependent on many
factors including bus schedules (Edwards, 2012), biological development (Borlase, Gander,
Gibson, 2013; Perkinson Gloor, Lemola, Grob, 2013), and parental preference (Edwards, 2012;
Perkinson Gloor et al., 2013). School start times are considered one aspect that can affect sleep
duration, since they affect wake time. Adequate, high quality sleep is extremely important for
adolescents and inadequate sleep can lead to a number of negative outcomes including poorer
physical and mental health, as well as poorer academic performance (Borlase et al., 2013;
Edwards, 2012; Keller, Smith, Gilbert, Bi, Haak, Buckhalt, 2015; Paksarian, Rudolph, Jian Ping,
Merikangas, 2015; Perkinson Gloor, et al., 2013). Therefore, school start times are important to the
field of education, because start times affect sleep and sleep, or lack thereof, can affect cognitive
ability and performance. We are always looking to improve our schools and better educate our
children, and the adjustment of the start time is a small change that may have a big impact.
Overall, the results of these studies suggest that early school start times are detrimental to all
students, as elementary, middle, and high school students were examined in at least one of the five

Audre Lorde Lost In Space
The geographical location of a place influences the queer culture that forms there. Culture is defined
as the sum of the attitudes, customs and beliefs that distinguish one group of people from another
(Dictionary.com). Sheri Inness, author of Lost in Space: Queer Geography and the Politics of
Location, argues that our relationship to a place and culturebecome elements in the construction of
our individual and collective identities whether queer or straight (148). In Zami, a biomythography
by Audre Lorde, the author describes many occurrences wherein her identity and behaviour was
shaped by her geographical location. Both of these works helped to raise my awareness of the
cultural effect on the queer community. The cultural standards presented in Zami and Lost in Space

Audre s interaction with her friends, the Branded , in New York City is a nurturing relationship.
She acts as a mother figure to the members of the Branded and Gennie (121, 88). This is due to
her having her own place that she had opened up to the other Branded members and her mother
like instinct towards Gennie. In Stamford, both Audre and Ginger are working class, black
lesbians (140). This puts them on a level playing field, and they regard each other as equals.
Lastly, when Audre moves to Mexico City she forms a relationship with Eudora, who acts as a
mother figure towards her (172). Now Audre is the one being nurtured and taught by Eudora.
This is in contrast to her previous relationships in that all of her other lovers and friends have
been close in age to her, but Eudora is considerably older than Audre when they begin their
relationship. All of these examples demonstrate that every time Audre moves to a new place she
has a dislocation of identity (Inness, 138) and has to re establish her personal identity with every
location in regards to the cultural

The Use of Technology in Both the Training Methods and Training Environment of Elite Athletes in
Global Sport
Technology is used to help advance elite athletes, by achieving the maximum for the individuals
needs. Both with the training methods and environments technology is being used more and more,
for example simulated competition environments.
Although such technology is becoming increasingly popular with elite athletes, the provision of it
depends very much on how much money is at the athlete s disposal. This could be personal/family
wealth or funding provided by a third party, such as lottery funding or government funding.
There may be such cases where the athlete is part of a national ... Show more content on

This replicates altitude training. Without the technology of hypoxic chambers it is still possible to
create the altitude atmosphere by training with a restricted breathing pattern (hypoxic training).
This can be an effective way of replication, but technology is still required to measure the carbon
dioxide levels in the alveoli air.
The sporting institutes also use technology to analyse performance statistics, such as, speed,
power, heart rate, blood lactate, oxygen uptake, flexibility, technique and aesthetics (for some
aesthetic based sports, ie dancing, ice dancing). An example of this is using video recording and
playback technology to record an athlete s performance so that it can be analysed during playback.
This can be used to fine tune technique, or to work on the aesthetic sides of the aesthetic based
sports.
Particularly in aesthetic based sports video is used during media broadcasts to show the public
snippets of competitors in slow motion. The clips are normally of a particular specified element.
More recently the judges in ice dancing have been using a system that provides each judge with a
computer screen and with this they can select the slow motion elements that they want to view
before giving their scores.
Another example of the analysis of performance statistics is the use of technology in computerised

The Fall of the Ideal American in American Pastoral Essay
It is not so much that Philip Roth disagrees with the concept of the American dream; he simply
does not wish to buy into the myth of it all. In American Pastoral Roth laments the loss of
innocence, as exemplified by both Seymour Levov, the protagonist, and Nathan Zuckerman, the
narrator. Both grew up in an idyllic Jewish Newark neighborhood, both being the sons of Jewish
parents. The separation of their commonality came at a young age, when Zuckerman began to
idolize the golden boy of the neighborhood Seymour Swede Levov, born blond haired and blue
eyed, and representing everything that a young, Jewish boy would want in a local hero. It is
through the narrator s eyes that we see both the rise and fall of a Jewish family in America,... Show

Seymour eventually moved his family out of the city and into Old Rimrock, where all of
America lay at their door (310). It was the realization of the American Pastoral concept, one
which gave Seymour the feeling of accomplishment and success, the typical archetype of the
American dream. Unfortunately, the peace that was on the surface would boil over in due time.
Merry Levov, Seymour s daughter, would be the cause. She was described as an all A student,
setting very high standards for herself (171) and continuing on in the striving tradition of her
family. It is hard to pinpoint the exact moment of her loss of innocence, but eventually Merry
would be accused of becoming a leftist radical, of bombing Old Rimrock s general store, and of
murdering Dr. Fred Conlon. The Swede s dream was now interrupted by both the politics of the age,
but also the violent acts of his daughter. He lamented, wondering why Merry had become the
angriest kid in America (279) and most likely wondering how his actions had potentially led to it.
The Grandfather may have alluded to the changing zeitgeist of American society, albeit with the
change in his business. He points out that the assassination of John F. Kennedy and the arrival of
the miniskirt ... was the death knell for the ladies dress glove (349). More importantly, the
disillusionment of that generation, living through the Vietnam War, would bring about the extreme

The Effects Of Bilingualism
Bilingualism is commonly defined as the use of two languages by an individual. It is a term for
children and adults who have a proficiency in two languages (ASHA, 2004). Bilingualism is
common and it is on the rise in many parts of the world. Moreover, one in three people being
bilingual or multilingual (Wei, 2000).
It is estimated that there are more second language speakers of English than native speakers
(Genesee, 2009), and there are as many bilingual children as there are monolingual children
(Paradis, Genesee, Crago, 2011). It means that many children are being raised as bilinguals.
Sometimes bilingualism is required for them, because the children s parents may not speak a
dominant language fluently. The dominant language is the language that is the someone s
strongest language, and people feel more comfortable when they are speaking, reading, and writing
in that language. Therefore, the child may learn one language at home and he/she can learn another
at school. But sometimes bilingualism is a preference. Because parents may want to expose their
children to another language, even if they do not know and speak a second language.
Children usually learn to be bilingual by hearing and speaking two languages. Children might hear
one or more languages at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The sequential acquisition may be experienced if children immigrate to another country where a
language is spoken rather than their own language. The sequential acquisition may also occur if the
children solely speak their native language at home until they begin school, where they see any
other language for the first time.
The core difference between these two types of bilingual language acquisition is that simultaneous
bilingualism refers to acquire two or more languages at the same time, and sequential bilingualism
refers to acquire one language and then subsequently acquire another

Musculoskeletal Disorder Case Study
Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) affect the back, neck, shoulders and upper limbs, but can
also affect the lower limbs. They may result from more than one of these tissues. Causes Most

Analysis Of The Catcher Of The Rye
Two Worlds, Two Choices, Two Boys
In The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger, Holden Caulfield struggles to leave the real world
around him which he constantly fails to fit in. He is expelled from three schools before going to
Pencey. He then leaves Pencey for New York before Christmas. After experiencing the coldness of
society in New York, He decides to hitchhike to the West alone, escaping the society and leaving his
family behind. Instead, he chooses to dream about living in the fantasy world in his mind where all
things he resists do not exist. Among those things he resists in the real world, the phoniness of
adults, the unavoidable loss of children s innocence and his unbreakable bond with his family are
the most significant ones that schedule Holden s canceled departure.
Holden is unwilling to get along with phonies at his schools. When Holden explains the reason
why he leaves Elkton Hills School to Mr. Spencer, he gives an example: For instance, they had
this headmaster, Mr. Haas, that was the phoniest bastard I ever met in my life (Salinger 17).
Holden finally drops out of Elkton Hills because of the phoniness of his headmaster even though
Holden has no direct contact with him. However, Holden s abhorrence toward phonies is so great
and evident that he cannot even stand watching a phony s action from far away. Holden originally
believes that changing to another school will reduce his interaction with phonies, but his thought is
proved wrong at Pencey. After

Difference between a Mutual Fund and an Index Fund
Mutual Funds vs. Index Funds New Imperatives for the small individual investor and the general
public BY: Allen Jackson Document outline: Introduction How does this issue relate to public
finance? What is a mutual fund? What is an index fund? Shortcomings of the mutual fund Why
index funds are better long term investments Conclusion Introduction To begin, the stock market
has been an arena notorious for its extreme wealth creation. In today s news, the small investor is
inundated with information regarding particular countries, individual companies, and future
macroeconomic predictions in regards to the stock market. With all this information, the small
investor is left hopeless to sift through it all, in hopes of finding the particular asset that can
secure retirement, pay for a child s education, or provide a stable life. To the small investor s
detriment however, many of them do not have the time, expertise or inclination to study individual
companies in hopes of determining which one merits his or her hard earned money. Even more
important, the few dollars the investor does have to invest must be invested in a manner that does
not lose him or her any money. In such instances, the investor must now work even harder to cover
any loses incurred and still afford to live comfortably in retirement. As such, the investor forgoes
this headache of stock picking and elects to give his money to a mutual fund manager. This action
on the surface seems correct,

Shakespeare Literary Criticism
Shakespeare s many plays are some of the most treasured and infamous works of literature in
British history and in World history. Shakespeare coined many terms and phrases commonly used
in the English language today in his writings. His works were and still are almost universally
acclaimed and admired for their level of storytelling, intelligent use of the english language, and
techniques ahead of their time. There is, however, a great deal of controversy regarding whether
The Bard really authored his plays, or whether they were mislabeled and plagiarised by a phony
author. Many factors contribute to these suspicions, and many allegations have been made
regarding Shakespeare s works being plagiarized by fellow authors and scholars.
One of the most convincing arguments that Shakespeare did not write his plays is the intimate
knowledge of royal affairs shown in his works. Plays such as Othello show an intimate
knowledge of the royal class and the military, and Shakespeare was but a poor playwright who
was of obvious low or middle class stature and values. In his book Is Shakespeare Dead?, well
known and proven author Mark Twain states this about his views on the Shakespeare Plagiarism
controversy, It is surmised by the biographers that the young Shakespeare got his vast knowledge
of the law and his familiar and accurate acquaintance with the manners and customs and shop talk
of lawyers through being for a time the CLERK OF A STRATFORD COURT: just as a bright lad

Assuming there is ample opportunity to increase surgical volume, how do you intend to recruit physicians to practice via your ASC? What are some strategies/offerings you could employ? The ASC you are currently managing is experiencing out of network challenges. Additionally, the proposed reimbursement rates from payers do not match Medicare rates for your market. Most of your ASC contracts are based on the Medicare fee schedule and because many of your surgeries are not on that schedule, you have to negotiate a fee schedule on a case by case basis. What strategies could you employ as you work with payors to contract for reasonable rates that could save you both money in the short term? One of the most common forms of vivisection is the experimentation for medical purposes such as making new medicines. Daugherty developed a constant theme of sorrow and unfortunateness through the characters, places and events, which all were ultimately affected by death. Although, countless readers of Comfort me with Apples would suggest that the story is centralized by another theme, many would agree that the theme of death in the story showcases how different characters cope with death and the effects it has on the human condition, by examining how George coped with the death of his wife, how death affected the Zamora family and how the bayou represented death in every aspect when portrayed. Undoubtedly with many untimely deaths, such as automobile accidents, survivors are often left with survivors guilt and have to find ways to coupe death, as George did in the story. The tragic accident that killed George s wife and her parents left him in disarray, but he persevered by holding on to the memories of his wife, helping others and by staying busy throughout story. George did not feel sorry for his self or succumb to moping around and lying in bed all day, as many do when coping with death. After reviewing the facts of the case, it is without a doubt that Morse is innocent, of any violations of Frederick s First Amendment rights and she had every right to confiscate and punish Frederick for his actions. Joseph Frederick, a senior at Juneau Douglas High School, attended the school approved and school monitored social event of the Olympic Torch Relay. Frederick was late to school that day, and upon arrival, he joined his friends (all but one were students at JDHS) across the street from the school to watch the event. Schools have the right to confiscate any item that violates their policies, and Frederick s displaying of his banner was violating a policy. Although Frederick does have the First Amendment right to wield his banner, the school policy clearly states that nothing promoting illegal drugs is allowed. • 9. Berkeley s Argument For The Dismissal Of Material Objects... To be just is to be perceived , or as Irish philosopher George Berkeley prefers to put it, esse est percipi . In this argument, Berkeley details extensively how material objects, as humans have come to know them, do not exist. Berkeley uses a series of premises to aid in the elimination of skepticism surrounding the existence of the world humans have come to know and grow fond of. At first read, Berkeley s conclusion that the abstract ideas of substance, matter, or any physical objects simply are not real is very hard to grasp when humans have based their justifications on what is real versus not real on their own senses, and the validation of other people. However, Berkeley does an excellent job of making an argument one cannot refute. In order to fully understand Berkeley s argument for the dismissal of material objects, one must understand his preceding argument on abstract ideas. According to Berkeley, the existence of abstract ideas is actually a myth. Humans tend to generalize concepts, such as the general idea of a table, a car, or a triangle, for example. However, Berkeley claims in his argument that there is no explainable way to have a general idea of anything. So if someone tells another to think of a table, that person will have a very specific picture of a very specific table maybe a brown dining table with large, carved wooden legs, or a plastic folding table. There is not one table that has all of the characteristics of a table and none of them at the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. Proteins, Macromolecular Polymers, Built Up Of Chains Introduction Proteins are macromolecular polymers, built up of chains of repeating units called amino acids. There are twenty different naturally occurring amino acids, all of which have the vital amino ( NHв‚‚) and carboxylic acid ( COOH) groups bonded to the central carbon atom, as well as an R group specific to that amino acid. Proteins are versatile and useful molecules, they can be used in many different roles in the body. For example, the catalysis of biological reactions, the transmission of messages around the body and the transportation of molecules (eg. the transportation of oxygen by haemoglobin). Proteins are coded for by the sequence of nucleotide bases in the DNA sequence of genes specific to the proteinmolecule in question. This sequence of bases is copied in the process of transcription which takes place in the nucleus of the cell. The copied sequence then undergoes post transcriptional modification. This allows the introns (which are of no use in translation) to be removed from the sequence and the exons to be organised into the correct sequence to code for a specific protein. This modified sequence is then used in the process of translation to code for the amino acid sequence of the protein. Translation takes place in the ribosomes of the cell and is the process which results in the final formation of the linear polypeptide chain of the protein. This polypeptide chain is the basic primary structure of the protein. Proteins have four basic levels of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 20. Durkheim Is Dead! Macro vs. Micro Beliefs Essay I have grouped the sociologists in Durkheim is Dead into three groups: macro to micro, micro and macro, and micro to macro. I did not place any one of the individuals into just the macro or just the micro categories. Each one fell into a group that I considered to be in between. In the macro to micro category, each sociological theory concentrated on one major problem of society and then went on to explain what would have to be done within individuals in order to achieve social progress. Durkheim s focus was upon the division of labor being the primary cause of social problems (Berger 123). For Du Bois, the concentration was on racial issues; I have faith in the power of freedom and democracy to lead these peoples to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lenin was very close to the Webb s and they all shared similar theories. These people were more politically minded. Similar to Durkheim s ideas of collective consciousness, Lenin believed that the ideas of the ruling class became the ideas of the masses (Berger 111). Lenin focused on societal groups and how the individual is stuck within their class. He believed that the working class was being exploited and that society must work towards eliminating this confusion of who should be in charge by forcing the working class to prevail. B. Webb felt there was a relationship between crime poverty. She focused on politics as being the reason for poverty. She said, One must remedy the political order to help poor people.... It was the structure of society that was at fault, not the individual (Berger 130). The next category, macro and micro, was a group in and of itself. Only one sociologist fell into this division. The theories that defined this category oscillated between the effects of society on the individual and visa versa, the effect the individual on society. • 21. The Importance Of Looking Before You Leap Essay The Importance of Looking Before You Leap Media portrays romantic relationships as a whirlwind of emotions that ends in a happily ever after in the course of a few days; children s movies are a larger perpetrator of this idea. But how accurate is this to real life relationships? Research, including John Van Epp s book How to Avoid Falling in Love with a Jerk, tells us that a healthy relationship is built on more than the initial emotions we feel. In chapter one of How to Avoid Falling in Love with a Jerk, Epp discusses the importance of the love is blind phenomenon where we either one, don t know how to identify predictors of relationship dissatisfaction or two, become so attached to someone that we minimize predictors in the belief that things will get better. The love is blind phenomenon causes discourse between the heart and mind, two things that need to be harmonious in order for a healthy relationship. Epp also discusses the predictors of (dis)satisfaction in order to find a partner that complements us and identify things that could result in potential problems in the relationship. For the first chapter, I found the predictors to be the most interesting point in this chapter. Epp identified five categories that seemed to play a large role in marital satisfaction and they are compatibility potential, relationship skills, patterns from other relationships, family patterns and background, and character and conscience traits. Compatibility potential is the similarities ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In A Partial Remembrance of a Puerto Rican Childhood, Judith Cofer accomplishes three powerful achievements: she gives details on the stories of her family experiences, shows her family stories in a strong imaginative language, and points out how family stories can take over a person s life. This essay seems to be very tricky because she goes from one story to another. Cofer s claim would be very difficult to understand if she started with one story; instead, she should finish explaining the initial story before moving on to the next one. Netherlandish use of triptychs three distinct art pieces that simultaneously exist as individual images and as a collective picture usually were presented as devotional images and altarpieces. Joachim Patinir s triptych, The Penitence of Saint Jerome (c. 1512 1515, Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY), employs both the same form of traditional triptychs and the Netherlandish tradition of extended panoramic landscapes; however, the triptych breaks traditional convention. The three separate panels share the same landscape which allows the figures to exist in the same pictorial space. This maintains an unbroken continuation of the landscape, which adds not only to the content within a single panel, but to the entire narrative of the triptych. Yet, each individual panel is also worthy of its own analysis and discussion. The left panel depicts the first of three saints, Saint John the Baptist, in the midst of his signature baptizing of Christ. A river flows from the furthest reaches of the landscape down to the bottom frame, with Christ standing thigh deep in the water, a dove alighting from Godperched in the clouds in the top left. Saint John kneels over him on the riverbank while a group of people huddle in the distance behind the baptism scene. In traditional style, the triptych simultaneously depicts a central scene as well as past and future narrative events present here as Saint John preaching chronologically before the actual baptism of Christ. Nelson on Descartes s Theory of Perception and Judgment Nelson on Descartes?s Theory of Perception and Judgment ABSTRACT: One tension in Descartes?s account of human error stems from the idea that we may be faulted for our acts of will, despite the fact that God is our omnipotent and omniscient creator. In the present essay, I describe a second tension in Descartes?s account of human error. After describing the tension, I consider Alan Nelson?s characterization of the means by which Descartes?s intended to relieve it. Although Nelson s interpretation is almost correct, I think that it obscures some of the interesting details of Descartes?s theory of perception and judgment. These details are revealed by the taxonomy of sensory responses that Descartes articulates in the Sixth Set of Replies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In cases of false perceptual judgment, is it not the faculty of intellect that so seductively offers up false propositions whose subject matter so clearly concerns our environs? As Descartes himself concedes, the objects of perception include the ideas of size, shape, and motion, and of other properties that are referred to objects outside of the mind.2 If the will and intellect, respectively, contribute the neustic and phrastic components of judgment, then it appears that the intellect (and hence God) is blameworthy in cases of erroneous perceptual judgment. II. In his paper, Descartes?s Ontology of Thought, Alan Nelson attempts to give an interpretation of Descartes?s theory of perception and judgment that extricates Descartes from the tension associated with explaining human error.3 On Nelson?s interpretation, Descartes maintained that false perceptual judgments are ultimately the result of confused ideas, which have their origin in past determinations of the will. In turn, Nelson supposes that confused sensory ideas can subsequently come to be the customary result of the impact of external objects, and thereby result in the spontaneous dispensing of false propositions by the intellect. Nelson?s interpretation has a lot going for it. First, it appears to relieve the apparent tension in Descartes?s account of error. Many of those who believe and fear this idea are apprehensive of various upcoming technological advances. • 38. School Start Times And High Quality Sleep The American education system is diverse and unique, and one aspect that varies wildly across the country is school start times. Deciding the start times for schools is dependent on many factors including bus schedules (Edwards, 2012), biological development (Borlase, Gander, Gibson, 2013; Perkinson Gloor, Lemola, Grob, 2013), and parental preference (Edwards, 2012; Perkinson Gloor et al., 2013). School start times are considered one aspect that can affect sleep duration, since they affect wake time. Adequate, high quality sleep is extremely important for adolescents and inadequate sleep can lead to a number of negative outcomes including poorer physical and mental health, as well as poorer academic performance (Borlase et al., 2013; Edwards, 2012; Keller, Smith, Gilbert, Bi, Haak, Buckhalt, 2015; Paksarian, Rudolph, Jian Ping, Merikangas, 2015; Perkinson Gloor, et al., 2013). Culture is defined as the sum of the attitudes, customs and beliefs that distinguish one group of people from another (Dictionary.com). Sheri Inness, author of Lost in Space: Queer Geography and the Politics of Location, argues that our relationship to a place and culturebecome elements in the construction of our individual and collective identities whether queer or straight (148). In Zami, a biomythography by Audre Lorde, the author describes many occurrences wherein her identity and behaviour was shaped by her geographical location. Both of these works helped to raise my awareness of the cultural effect on the queer community. The cultural standards presented in Zami and Lost in Space and there... She acts as a mother figure to the members of the Branded and Gennie (121, 88). This is due to her having her own place that she had opened up to the other Branded members and her mother like instinct towards Gennie. In Stamford, both Audre and Ginger are working class, black lesbians (140). This puts them on a level playing field, and they regard each other as equals. Lastly, when Audre moves to Mexico City she forms a relationship with Eudora, who acts as a mother figure towards her (172). Now Audre is the one being nurtured and taught by Eudora. This is in contrast to her previous relationships in that all of her other lovers and friends have been close in age to her, but Eudora is considerably older than Audre when they begin their relationship. All of these examples demonstrate that every time Audre moves to a new place she has a dislocation of identity (Inness, 138) and has to re establish her personal identity with every location in regards to the cultural ... Without the technology of hypoxic chambers it is still possible to create the altitude atmosphere by training with a restricted breathing pattern (hypoxic training). This can be an effective way of replication, but technology is still required to measure the carbon dioxide levels in the alveoli air. The sporting institutes also use technology to analyse performance statistics, such as, speed, power, heart rate, blood lactate, oxygen uptake, flexibility, technique and aesthetics (for some aesthetic based sports, ie dancing, ice dancing). An example of this is using video recording and playback technology to record an athlete s performance so that it can be analysed during playback. This can be used to fine tune technique, or to work on the aesthetic sides of the aesthetic based sports. Particularly in aesthetic based sports video is used during media broadcasts to show the public snippets of competitors in slow motion. The clips are normally of a particular specified element. More recently the judges in ice dancing have been using a system that provides each judge with a computer screen and with this they can select the slow motion elements that they want to view before giving their scores. • 42. The Fall of the Ideal American in American Pastoral Essay It is not so much that Philip Roth disagrees with the concept of the American dream; he simply does not wish to buy into the myth of it all. In American Pastoral Roth laments the loss of innocence, as exemplified by both Seymour Levov, the protagonist, and Nathan Zuckerman, the narrator. Both grew up in an idyllic Jewish Newark neighborhood, both being the sons of Jewish parents. The separation of their commonality came at a young age, when Zuckerman began to idolize the golden boy of the neighborhood Seymour Swede Levov, born blond haired and blue eyed, and representing everything that a young, Jewish boy would want in a local hero. It is through the narrator s eyes that we see both the rise and fall of a Jewish family in America,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Seymour eventually moved his family out of the city and into Old Rimrock, where all of America lay at their door (310). It was the realization of the American Pastoral concept, one which gave Seymour the feeling of accomplishment and success, the typical archetype of the American dream. Unfortunately, the peace that was on the surface would boil over in due time. Merry Levov, Seymour s daughter, would be the cause. She was described as an all A student, setting very high standards for herself (171) and continuing on in the striving tradition of her family. It is hard to pinpoint the exact moment of her loss of innocence, but eventually Merry would be accused of becoming a leftist radical, of bombing Old Rimrock s general store, and of murdering Dr. Fred Conlon. The Swede s dream was now interrupted by both the politics of the age, but also the violent acts of his daughter. He lamented, wondering why Merry had become the angriest kid in America (279) and most likely wondering how his actions had potentially led to it. The Grandfather may have alluded to the changing zeitgeist of American society, albeit with the change in his business. He points out that the assassination of John F. Kennedy and the arrival of the miniskirt ... was the death knell for the ladies dress glove (349). • 45. Analysis Of The Catcher Of The Rye Two Worlds, Two Choices, Two Boys In The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger, Holden Caulfield struggles to leave the real world around him which he constantly fails to fit in. He is expelled from three schools before going to Pencey. He then leaves Pencey for New York before Christmas. After experiencing the coldness of society in New York, He decides to hitchhike to the West alone, escaping the society and leaving his family behind. Instead, he chooses to dream about living in the fantasy world in his mind where all things he resists do not exist. Among those things he resists in the real world, the phoniness of adults, the unavoidable loss of children s innocence and his unbreakable bond with his family are the most significant ones that schedule Holden s canceled departure. Holden is unwilling to get along with phonies at his schools. When Holden explains the reason why he leaves Elkton Hills School to Mr. Spencer, he gives an example: For instance, they had this headmaster, Mr. Haas, that was the phoniest bastard I ever met in my life (Salinger 17). Holden finally drops out of Elkton Hills because of the phoniness of his headmaster even though Holden has no direct contact with him. What is a mutual fund? What is an index fund? Shortcomings of the mutual fund Why index funds are better long term investments Conclusion Introduction To begin, the stock market has been an arena notorious for its extreme wealth creation. In today s news, the small investor is inundated with information regarding particular countries, individual companies, and future macroeconomic predictions in regards to the stock market. With all this information, the small investor is left hopeless to sift through it all, in hopes of finding the particular asset that can secure retirement, pay for a child s education, or provide a stable life. To the small investor s detriment however, many of them do not have the time, expertise or inclination to study individual companies in hopes of determining which one merits his or her hard earned money. Even more important, the few dollars the investor does have to invest must be invested in a manner that does not lose him or her any money. In such instances, the investor must now work even harder to cover any loses incurred and still afford to live comfortably in retirement. As such, the investor forgoes this headache of stock picking and elects to give his money to a mutual fund manager. This action on the surface seems correct, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Shakespeare Literary Criticism Shakespeare s many plays are some of the most treasured and infamous works of literature in British history and in World history. Shakespeare coined many terms and phrases commonly used in the English language today in his writings. His works were and still are almost universally acclaimed and admired for their level of storytelling, intelligent use of the english language, and techniques ahead of their time. There is, however, a great deal of controversy regarding whether The Bard really authored his plays, or whether they were mislabeled and plagiarised by a phony author. Many factors contribute to these suspicions, and many allegations have been made regarding Shakespeare s works being plagiarized by fellow authors and scholars. One of the most convincing arguments that Shakespeare did not write his plays is the intimate knowledge of royal affairs shown in his works. Plays such as Othello show an intimate knowledge of the royal class and the military, and Shakespeare was but a poor playwright who was of obvious low or middle class stature and values. In his book Is Shakespeare Dead?, well known and proven author Mark Twain states this about his views on the Shakespeare Plagiarism controversy, It is surmised by the biographers that the young Shakespeare got his vast knowledge of the law and his familiar and accurate acquaintance with the manners and customs and shop talk of lawyers through being for a time the CLERK OF A STRATFORD COURT: just as a bright lad like me, ...
