The Theoretical Relevance Of Marx s Theory Of Alienation
The theoretical relevance of Marx s theory of alienation has been the subject of much contention since
the posthumous publication of his Economic and Philosophical manuscripts in (). While the notion of
alienation, along with its distinctly Hegelian underpinnings, has frequently been dismissed as a
youthful error in comparison with Marx s supposedly more mature work, I argue that it is fundamental
to his critique of capitalism. As Sayers (p.xi) notes, After his early period, Marx did not often use the
term it and much other Hegelian language is for the most part abandoned. Nevertheless, the concept of
alienation is implicit throughout Marx s work, and it continues to provide a major basis for his
understanding of capitalism and for his critique of the impact of the market . It is important to relate
Marx s philosophical project back to the always implicit notion of alienation as a set of relations
between people and as a mode of being in the material world specific to capital(ism), otherwise there
is a risk of overlooking the human relationships that underpin the capitalist mode of production. As
Ollman () points out, By dismissing the essential human relations, the basic relations of alienation
which underly capitalist production, its surface relations become everything (p.202). So, in dismissing
the human relationships that maintain a given mode of production, it is reified thus, any critique that
does not take this into consideration fails to address the matter

Edgar Allen Poe Analytical Essay
When looking at a piece of literature through a psychological approach it is easy to apply Sigmund
Freud s theories of the id, ego, and superego, which focus on conscious and unconscious behavior.
When analyzing many of Poe s works, critics tend to look through a psychological lens. Specifically
in Poe s The Black Cat. Some critics believe that Poe s alcoholism is reflected in the piece, but many,
such as James W. Gargano advised the tales readers to avoid the biographical pitfall of seeing Poe and
the first person narrator of The Black Cat as identical literary twins (Piacentino 1). It is due to his
childhood that Poe s narrator in The Black Cat subconsciously places animals before humans, thus
leading to him to murder his wife. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Freud interpreted these theories, and came up with his own theory that intrapsychic conflicts (conflicts
with in the individual) between basic biological urges and societal standards lead to abnormal
behavior (Bruce 2). Sigmund Freud s theories are relevant because subconsciously Poe s narrator in
The Black Cat has suppressed his negative feelings toward humans. It is this precise unconscious
thinking that Freud bases human nature upon. Understanding how ones mind works is important in
order to analyze ones actions. This is important in The Black Cat because very early on the narrator
reveals his overwhelming love for animals, and how he places them before humans. When the narrator
relays the story the reader learns that he is awaiting execution for the murder of his wife (Piacentino
2). French critic Gerard Genette who specializes in the study of narrative theory notes narration
always says less than it knows, but it often makes known more then it says (Piacentino 2). This is true
of the autobiographical narrative of The Black Cat. The narrator is trying to present himself as a calm
man with self control, however the more he talks the more he leaks his insanity. He offers
rationalizations for his past actions, and facts about his childhood. The narrator, by the end of the
story, has revealed himself to be a vicious and violent abuser of animals and people alike. He

Bedside Handover Using Isbar Frameworks
Bedside handover using ISBAR frameworks has proven in promotion of patient satisfaction,
especially for the patient s safety. However, there are some barriers that were identified in the
effectiveness of bedside handover. These barriers may involve different factors such as environmental
and human.
Thus, this literature review will be focusing on various themes on the effectiveness of bedside
handover using ISBAR, which will then be compared and contrasted; and the most common barriers
to effective bedside handover will be explored.
The question that has been formulated is why is bedside handover with ISBAR considered to be the
safest and most effective form of handover, and what are the common barriers that limit its execution
in the clinical arena?
It has been proven that bedside handover with ISBAR has provided a safety transition and met patient
s satisfaction that gives more opportunity to clarify information (ACSQHC 2012). Although, bedside
handover with ISBAR is strictly implemented, there are difficulties in the application due to changes
in complex social practices of nurses that somehow limits its uptake (ACSQHC 2012, cited in Jeffcott,
Evans Cameron 2009). This literature review sought to study the rationale as to the effectiveness of
bedside handover with ISBAR framework in clinical settings; and to identify the common barriers to
effective communication in bedside handover.
The main themes that will be included are the dyadic relationship between the

Analysis Of Small Steps
Author Style To start off, Louis Sachar writes in many different styles in the different books he writes.
There are many different books that he has written and has gotten many awards. Sachar won the
Newbery Medal for one of his top selling books, called Holes. Another book that he is written is called
Small Steps. Small Steps is about how you have one thing at a time in life and not do so many things
at once. In the book Small Steps, Louis Sachar uses figurative language, conflict to help keep the
reader engaged, and uses the same character s name in multiple of his books as his writing style. One
style that Louis Sachar uses in the book Small Steps is conflict. Conflict is a struggle between
opposing forces or when two characters in a story get in a fist fight or just a fight over a conversation.
In the book Small Steps, an example of conflict is on page 217, She picked up her cup and tossed the
contents at him, splattering him with coffee and cream. Kira got mad at Armpit because Armpit said
that Kira should consider another profession besides singing and Kira was really upset that Armpit
said that. Kira tossed the cup of coffee at him while everyone in the store stared at Armpit with coffee
all over his shirt. This relates to the author s style because Sachar likes to use a lot conflict in his
books to keep the reader engaged. Another example of conflict in the book Small Steps is on page
199, Moses whacked him on the side of his head. X Ray gets hit on the side of his head very hard by
Moses, who is a man who wants the counterfeit tickets that X Ray has. X Ray s glasses broke, and his
tickets were stolen by Moses, while X Ray lay on the floor after he got punched in the face. Sachar
uses a lot of conflict in the books he writes. In addition to conflict, another style that Louis Sachar
uses in his books, especially Small Steps and Holes, is figurative language. Figurative language is a
language that uses words of expressions with a meaning that is different from the literal interpretation.
It also uses exaggerations or alterations to make a linguistic point. An example of figurative language

Essay On American Identity
The American Identity
American |adjective| of, relating to, or characteristic of the United States or its inhabitants. This is the
literal meaning of American, but isn t there more? Most just look on a shallow level of what the
United States were actually founded on. People will say that this country is based only on having
rights which may be true, however we have many freedoms here that citizens of other countries cannot
even begin to comprehend
This community is full of citizens who have strong views politically. I have noticed many people
saying,
Being American means you have gun rights! Means you have the ability to say whatever, whenever
and nobody can say anything about it! I find this sad because so many of the people who ... Show

I will admit I am guilty of this. Many people will not admit to this. Many will just assume things and
cave into the stereotypes the rest of the world believes. People will judge others because of who they
are, what they love, or their beliefs. The first amendment does clearly state we have a freedom of
speech but why does this have to be used as a negative asset? We could use it as a tool instead of a
weapon, used to criticize another being. People have started to believe in stereotypes again with a trust
so great, that I will never be able to understand it. Blinded by these ideas they started to use them in a
horrible way to separate themselves from another culture that is wonderful. All of this done in the face
of fear, the fear of another day to be dreaded like that of 11.9.01.
One of my favorite things to read are American stereotypes. Sometimes I will read the most hilarious
things and other times I am absolutely shocked by what I find. Americans are viewed as rude and
overweight people, who do not know anything about the world around them. (I do not like to be bound
by stereotypes and try to break the trend .) To be honest I do believe in some of these because some
are true. However The U.S. is viewed as a place of freedom where even in crises we can come
together to mend the nation together again, as neighbors and friends even if we don t agree on

Medical Treatment Of The Modern World
Working medical treatment in the ancient world was something rare to find as there was little
understanding about how the human body worked. Many believed that the sick were being punished
by God and were shunned by society. Many societies also shunned those that were not like them,
refusing to give them any medical treatment. While medical treatment in other areas in the Afro
Eurasian world was primitive, Islamic hospitals, had made great strides in the medical field. Although
Islamic hospitals were largely secular, they were influenced by the religion of Islam from improving
the lives of those at the hospital to driving the research of medicine, however, much influence came,
not from the Qu ran or other Islamic holy books, but from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They were also built as a retirement home and insane asylum. Before hospitals, there were traveling
lodges that were attended by priests, however, the treatments were just prayers and sacrifices. At a
hospital anyone could get treatment , gender, social status, religion, and ethnicity did not matter. There
were even separate wards for gender and different conditions and male and female nurses for the
separate genders. The service was free and the hospitals were financed from the revenues of wealthy
men. While the hospitals served as medical schools to train students and advance medical knowledge,
only qualified physicians were allowed to practice medicine. They were also were the first in history
to keep records of patients and the treatments. Hospitals were equipped with extensive libraries,
conference halls and housing facilities for students and doctors to use. Islam has played a major role in
influencing Muslim hospitals, from improving the lives of everyone there to dictating the treatment of
the mentally ill. One of the five pillars dictate that a muslim must pray five times a day. For certain
conditions an ablution is required, so Muslim hospitals were required to provide patients and
employees with an unlimited supply of water and bathing facilities. To fulfill one s spiritual needs
there was a mosque for Muslim patients and a chapel for Christian patients. Throughout history,
treatment of the mentally ill has mostly been negative. Many

The Pricing Strategy Of T Shirts
This type of pricing gives customers a good deal and encourages them to buy more which saves on
packaging in which seller gives quantity discount. In this case the bundle of 5 T shirts s priced lower
than the sum of the price of individual T shirt. This type of pricing is based on the demand schedule
where customers may have high willingness to pay for T shirt but not for 5 T shirts, and the pricing
discount is to match customer willingness to pay. 5 T shirts are packed for one price using a bundling
pricing which is a second degree price discrimination that used to extract consumer surplus. This is an
example of a promotional bundle in the mixed bundling category in which the bundled price of the 5
Tshirt is lower than the total price of individual product price added together. The consumers have the
choice of buying packs of 5 T shirts or buying a T shirt without the pack. In this pricing strategy
identical T shirts are packaged together in order to enhance profits by forcing customers to make an all
decision. The mixed bundling pricing provides a means by which the company can get the consumer
to pay the full value of the 5 units of packaging 5 T shirt a product and selling them as one package,
the company can earn more than selling per T shirt price. The profit maximizing price is the 5 T shirt
for $10 on a pack is the total value the consumer receives for the package, including consumer surplus
and business could enhance profits even consumers have identical demands.

Ponce de León set sail in March 1513 with three ships. According to early historians, on April 7, he
anchored off the eastern coast of Florida near present day St. Augustine, and came ashore a day later,
choosing the name La Florida in part because it was the Easter season (Pascua Florida in Spanish).
Juan Ponce de León and his crew became the first recorded Europeans to set eyes on Florida. Legend

The Effects Of Conflict On The Workplace
Conflict in the workplace is something that s been going on for centuries. Although we think of
conflict as negative, it can also have a positive impact. In this paper we will look at both the negative
and positive impact of conflict in the workplace.
Conflict is opposition or antagonism toward other individuals or things (Hegar, Human Relations at
Work, pg 480). For example, if your co worker was given an award for outstanding work performance
but you feel that you were more deserving of the award. Now there is a conflict between you two.
Even if you do feel like you are more deserving, you should still try and keep that to yourself and get
your work done. Holding that type of animosity just creates more conflict. Two types of conflict that
are important in human relations are conflict at the individual level and conflict at the organizational
level. When needs of individuals are at odds conflict can develop. The reasons for this are frustration
and interpersonal conflict. Some of our biggest frustrations come from the workplace. It may be
because we feel that our work in unfulfilling, co workers that we don t get along with demanding
structures within the organization that seem to micromanage us. In most instances we feel that our
options for real fulfillment at work are limited which creates conflict inside us. Intrapersonal conflict
occurs when a person or group of people frustrates or interferes with another person s efforts at
achieving a goal (Hegar, Human Relations

Amendments Of The 18th Amendment
Amendments: Prohibition and its Repeal In the United States, certain rights have been guaranteed to
American citizens. The creation of the Constitution was created to make sure American s always had
these rights. This led to a Utopian world in the eyes of congress when it was really Dystopian. The
18th Amendment known as the Prohibition era was expected to be good for America when in reality it
brought more problems than expected. After seeing the problems Prohibition caused, the 21st
Amendment was enforced and put an end to the era and the dystopian aspect of it all. The United
States constitution was created to make sure that certain rights were guaranteed to America s citizens.
The constitution was signed on September 17, 1787 by delegates to the Constitutional Convention in
Philadelphia in the presence of George Washington. The Constitution has been around for over 200
years and to this day has 27 amendments. America has significantly grown in population and the
economy has expanded much more than the delegates could have ever imagined, but through all of
America s changes, the Constitution has adapted as well. The first 10 amendments are the Bill of
Rights. Even though the Constitution was created to make sure that American s had certain rights, it
has also taken some away. For example, the 18th amendment, which was later repealed by the 21st
amendment. The ratification of the eighteenth amendment was known as the era called Prohibition.
Prohibition came about

Managers And Owners Are An Aggressive Cost Reduction
Managers and owners are also carrying out an aggressive cost reduction. They understand the
importance of improving, maintaining low overhead costs and closely monitor suppliers. But for the
reduction of fixed costs become possible, they reject many small customers without growth potential
operational complexities associated with too customized products. In addition, there has also been a
huge investment spurt in low cost automation and re engineering of production lines, aiming to reduce
labor costs and increase the quality consistently. With regard to the supply chain, manufacturing
decades have shaped an ecosystem of vendors specialized by sector, forming different clusters
throughout the entire country. Each cluster has very competitive costs through specialization because
they can benefit from the scale established exploiting its capacity, its accumulated know how and
experience of its skilled workers. Clusters can also apply a business model based on a network of
partners and / or interlinked competitors, which allows you to reconfigure the supply chain and that
adjustments can be made quickly. Quality Factor The different pressures on suppliers to reduce costs
have caused tensions and distortions. It is for this reason, companies find it difficult to establish long
term relationships with suppliers. Nonetheless, most buyers still uses this direct approach to reduce
costs, and many Chinese factories will do whatever is necessary to satisfy. The responsible buyers and

There is no known cause of schizophrenia, although some psychologists believe that it could be
caused by heredity, or biological and environmental factors, such as a disease, immune deficiency

schizophrenia, including hearing or seeing something that doesn t exist, a change in personality, an
obsession with religion and other supernatural entities, eccentric ways of communicating, and
behavior that is deemed odd or inappropriate. As with some other mental disorders, schizophrenia is a

Compare And Contrast All In The Family
1.) How is this TV show different from shows of today? How is it similar?
All in the Family differs from show of today in many ways. The many derogatory and racist terms,
used primarily by Archie Bunker, would not be able to said in a script for a modern day television
show. Words and terms used to describe people of any non American race or people in general would
be seen as non politically correct. The common racism theme throughout the show would degrade the
idea of American equality, which is a vital necessity in our growing nation. The show also mocked
religion, referring to a burning cross and roasting marshmallows over it. This kind of comment would
create a national eruption of offended individuals. Today s television shows are reviewed to portray a
politically correct message, or a decline in reputation will occur for anyone involved with the show.
While All in the Family greatly differs from modern American television shows, it also contains some
similarities. The show portrayed an overall theme of how people talked and acted in their daily lives
compared to a fictional or dramatized movie or television show. In the 1971 show premier, racial
inequality was a common theme in American society. The way Archie talked about others, and even
the disrespect to his son in law and mocking of his wife, was common. This slang was honest and
normal to the Bunkers, which showed real world issues with racism and family interaction. Many real
world issues are also

Teaching Is An Effective Teacher And Create A Better...
The community in which I will be teaching believes that character education should be taught in the
schools. As I plan to teach first and second graders in the elementary schools, I will include character
education in my classroom by using four simple rules. Be honest, be caring, have respect and listen.
Students, parents, faculty members and I will be expected to follow all of these simple rules upon
entering my classroom. We will be honest and truthful in the things we share. We will care about
others feelings, and make it a priority to have my classroom as a comfortable setting in which my
students can learn. We will have respect for all of whom enter into the walls of my classroom. We will
listen to the instruction given and follow it to its entirety and fullness. When we fail to maintain one of
these rules or standards, we will simply try again. As I plan to apply these rules in every aspect, my
goal is to become an effective teacher and create a better learning environment for my students. In
essence, I will have a classroom in which other students and teachers will look to. I know that one way
that I can apply these standards is by motivating my students in learning and in their lives. Students
need to be involved and learning as much as they can. From personal experience, I know that where I
learned the most was in settings in which were comfortable, there was respect. My teachers cared and
were interested in the activities I was involved in. They motivated me to

The Method Of Recruiting Has Changed Over Time
The method of recruiting has significantly changed over time. Today, there is less reading through
stacks of resumes and more interacting with potential employees on a casual and formal basis. The
method of job recruiting can include many different channels and practices. These methods can
consist of practices such as attending job fairs, promoting from within, online and college recruiting,
and referrals. Most recruiting methods are face to face interactions between the employer and potential

Another disadvantage is that if you promote from within, you have to fill the position of the person
you promoted, so in a sense you are back to square one (Lussier and Hendon, 172). Although this
route may seem easier, cheaper, and less time consuming, it may not be the most ideal route to take.
On the other hand, you have external recruiting which is the process of engaging individuals from the
labor market outside of the firm to apply for a job (Lussier and Hendon, 172). Some examples of
external recruiting would be using advertisements in newspapers, online job websites, career fairs, and
referrals from current employees that would help fulfill any open positions (Applegate). If a company
is going to promote themselves at a career fair it is important that they prepare in advance. The
company must advertise! As obvious as this may seem, some companies do not advertise because they
mainly rely on word of mouth. Some good advertising techniques would be to post flyers around local
campuses, add a section in the newspaper, advertise on the radio, and use social media platforms. The
company could also work with universities to send out an email blast to all of the students letting them
know about the career fair so that it draws more potential employees in ( Effective Career Fair
Recruiting ). Being a student at Lewis University, lately I have been seeing signs around campus about

The product of the restriction enzyme digestion of plasmid DNA was analysed visually on agarose

The isolated DNA plasmid is quantitated using UV absorbance and SYBR Green fluorescent methods.
The concentration of plasmids 1 and 2, using UV absorbance, was established to be 3227 µg/mL and
3951 µg/mL, respectively. This method also determines the 260/280 ratio for plasmid 1 which was
1.390 and for plasmid 2 which was 1.342. Furthermore, the plasmids are both contaminated with
proteins. The SYBR Green fluorescent method is more accurate than the UV absorbance method since
it is more specific for double stranded DNA molecules. Therefore, the SYBR Green assay results are
lower than those obtained in the UV absorbance and are estimated to be 163 µg/mL and 202 µg/mL,

Helen Keller s Impact On The Blind And Blind People

by fighting for them in the ways they couldn t. Keller had a huge impact on the blind and deaf
community, which she helped tremendously while getting more assistance to the blind. Helen Keller, a
deaf and blind woman that helped and inspired many other disabled people by fighting through her
own disabilities.
At nineteen months, Helen suffered an illness that left her unable to see, hear, or eventually speak.
(Williams) Keller got a illness called scarlet fever or meningitis, something that can not be cured,
which made an impact on her life by challenging her with no vision or hearing. (Williams) Keller
grew up young having her disabilities such as being blind and deaf, which later influenced her wanting
to help people with the same disabilities. She not only had to create signs growing up so that her
family could communicate with her, but she had to continue to do so until her teacher came along.
Keller grew up with her teacher Anne Sullivan, who helped her learn to communicate even with the
disabilities she had growing up. Helen was very independent in many ways. Such as not being able to

Persuasive Essay On Illegal Immigration
The topic of illegal immigration and how best to handle it has always been a controversial topic in the
U.S. The Trump administration is trying to address it by building a wall all the way along the border
of U.S. and Mexico. Trump has always wanted to build a wall between the U.S. and Mexico because
he sais that it is needed and will stop illegal immigration into the U.S. However the U.S. Mexico
border wall that Trump is proposing will not only be ineffective but will also be a huge waste of
money and an act of ignorance to the real issues and solutions. One obvious reason for why a border
wall is a bad idea is that it will be insanely expensive for numerous reasons. Trump makes it sound
like building a border wall will be as easy as saying we are going to do it and then poof, it will be
magically done, but that is not the case. Current estimates of the U.S. Mexico border wall are that it
will cost up to $66.9 billion in taxpayer money which is easier said than done (Nazario). Not to
mention the immense cost of hiring people to patrol the wall. In the end the border wall will cost
Americans billions of dollars that they don t have and waste it on something that amounts to nothing
more than America flexing its muscles. People also seem to think that the government is allowed to
just build a wall along the border but this is not true. To begin with most of the border is not even
owned by the federal government, more than 2/3rds is owned by private individuals and Native

Similarities And Differences Between Animal Farm And The...
Power,Utopia and the good life are all topics that coincide with each other to form our lives.
When considering the good life, power and utopia have to be brought into consideration, power needs
utopia and the good life etc.
Animal Farm and the Truman show both make these factors a topic of discussion using allegories and
metaphors as a main force to drive across a point or ideal.
Animal Farm in itself is an allegory, meaning it is made to express ideas, opinions and thoughts.
Truman show on the other hand is a movie made as entertainment, but it still has these key points in it
to express struggles and conflict.
One main point in the two stories is power and a lack of it, in the Truman show, Christof has all power
over Truman s life, while in Animal farm, napoleon has all power over the farm animals, the two
stories revolve around this idea of power and the changes it can make to someone s life.
The Truman show expresses that there is no true freedom in life without power, even though Truman
had a wonderful life that felt free, it was actually entirely controlled, when Truman catches wind of
this he starts rejecting the world around him in an attempt to feel true freedom.
In contrast, the Animals in animal farm have their power taken from them in front of their eyes,
however, a combination of low intelligence and pigs capitalising on animal stupidity leads to the
animals believing they are free and in power while they actually are not at all, the animals definitely
have

His muscles and hands weren t the only part of his body that had toughened... His heart had hardened

The words „toughened‟ and „hardened‟ help the reader understand how he has changed since the
beginning since as before going to Camp Green Lake he was a very sensitive boy who wouldn t be
rude or disrespectful.
During Camp Green Lake, Stanley starts having some changes, one of the most noticeable ones in the
physical change that Stanley is able to determine during Camp. Stanley has changed physically during
Camp Green Lake:
Less than thirty minutes after Magnet returned to Camp, Stanley spat into his hole. (P.81)

How Did Captain Hayes Attempt To Colonize America
In September 1583, two ships sailed through the rough mid Atlantic ocean toward the New World.
They left Plymouth, England to grab land for Queen Elizabeth. She wanted more land in the new
world for expansion for the English. Edward Hayes was the captain of the ship named the Golden
Hind and the other captain was Sir Humphrey Gilbert and his ship was named the Squirrel. On
September 9th, the look out on the Hind shouted to his captain, that the Squirrel was going down.
Captain Hayes could do nothing as he watched the Squirrel get swamped and was sent to the bottom
of the ocean. The first attempt to colonize America was a failure. Walter Raleigh was the half brother
of Sir Gilbert, so the news of his loss was devastating, not only because ... Show more content on

The trip would bring some 600 men, five ships and two pinnaces to take control of the new land.
There would be a minister, military members, smiths, carpenters, cooks, shoe makers, coopers, store
masters, and a number of mineral specialists. Ralegh s first step was to send just a few of his ships and
some men over first to set up a beach head. Then he would send some 200 more men to strengthen
their positions. Then settlers and more supplies would be next. If the ships were to get separated, they
were to meet in Puerto Rico. A massive storm off the coast of Portugal separated the Tiger (which was
Grenville s ship) from the rest of the fleet. While waiting for the other ships, Grenville established
relations with the Spanish while also plundering their ships. Grenville eventually got tired of waiting
for the other ships. Grenville decided to leave Ralph Lane and 107 men to establish a colony at the
north end of Roanoke Island. The group left the ship on August 17, 1585 and built a small fort,
believing that Grenville would return in April 1586 with more men and supplies. To this day they have

Plea Agreement Advantages
Plea Agreement
Introduction
A plea agreement is when the defendant agrees to plead guilty and the prosecutor offers to either
reduce the charge to a less serious offense, drops a charge, or recommend a specific sentence to the
judge (Williams Wilson, 1981). A plea agreement is more common than a case going to trial, in 2012,
97% of federal cases ended in plea bargains rather that going to trial (Goode, 2012). In the case for
Richard, there is no telling what the results would have been if he had a jury trial rather than taking the
plea agreement but it can be said that he made the correct decision by taking the plea.
Plea agreement vs jury trial There are several advantages to taking a plea agreement rather than going

When he looks back on that decision, he believes that his lawyer convinced him to make the wrong
decision. It is unknown what the outcome of Richard s life would have been if he had taken his case to
trial, but it seems that the plea agreement was the correct way for him to go. Richard undeniably
murdered his mother. He was seventeen years old and was old enough to know that murder is wrong.
Richard did grow up in a household where he was mentally abused, but does that justify or give him
an out for killing his mother? A jury would have seen Richard s case in a few different ways. One way
they could have seen the case would be that Richard was an abused child, he did not understand what
he was doing, and he does not necessarily deserve to be punished for it. Another way the jury could
have seen his case would be that Richard was nearly an adult who murdered his mother, hid the body,
and then manipulated people into thinking that he was truly concerned about his mothers whereabouts
while the whole time knowing what he did. If the jury would have seen Richard s case like that, he
probably would have ended up with the maximum

Review of movie Stand By Me Essay
Review of movie Stand By Me
Stand By Me is a movie based on a novel by Stephen King. It tells the story of four preteens, who
during a boring summer day, embark on a journey to find the body of a dead twelve year old, who has
been missing by news accounts, but known to them, to be lying in the woods near a river bank. The
story is told as an historical narrative about the lives and relationships of the four main characters in
this movie, Gordy, Chris, Teddy, and Vern. In this essay, I will discuss how communication, and self
concept, affects the characters, and their interactions.
Gordy La Chance, who is the narrator of this story, can best be described as an introvert. He is living
in the shadow of his recently deceased brother, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He comes from what Gordy describes as a ?bad family?, and believes himself to be bad too. His self
fulfilling prophecy would be to turn out as bad as everyone in town believes that he will. Gordy sees
the good in him, and pushes him to be more than Chris perceives he is capable of being. Chris is the
group leader. The others in the group value his opinion, and he is the protector. He sticks up for the
rest of the boys, and they look up to him. One example of this is when Ace, an older, bullying local,
steals Gordy?s hat. He verbally attacks the older bully, on behalf of Gordy. His presenting self is
confident, independent, and tough. Inwardly, or his perceived self, is incapable, and destined to
become nothing, primarily caused by the locals, and his family continually reminding him that he
comes from a family of trouble, so he must trouble too.
Teddy DuChamp can best be described as an antagonist. His father abused him, and was eventually
put into an asylum, this leaving Teddy with a stigma of being the son of a ?looney?. This brought
about his self fulfilling prophecy of craziness. He has a problem with self control, to the point where it
could cause him serious harm. One example of this is when he begins arguing with the keeper of a
junkyard, and instead of backing down during the altercation, he continues to fight, without realizing
that he could be endangering himself. He spends

In 2007 the company entered an open beta phase using flash. Three years later Wix had three million
users (April 2010), a year later (March 2011) they had over eight million users and its total funding
had hit sixty one million dollars. Exactly a year later (March 2012), Wix had replaced the current use
of flash to a new HTML5 site builder. Websites created before this implementation still worked using
flash, but all new sites were created using the new HTML5 builder. This change proved to be
incredibly successful, showing an overall usage of more than twenty five million users as well as
generating more than sixty million dollars in 2012. By August 2014, more than fifty one million users
throughout 190 countries have used Wix with roughly 45,000 new users a day.
Scholars Analysis
Flash websites have always been popular with artists because they display images beautifully.
Unfortunately, Apple s mobile devices and Adobe s Android do not support a Flash Player needed to
show images in Flash (Arthur, 2011). In the future, the focus will be in HTML5 as mobile world shifts
towards non proprietary open standards (Arthur, 2011).

African American Stereotypes Essay
Stereotypes, or preconceived ideas about persons or groups, are a major problem throughout this
country. I did not realize how much until I attended college at Minnesota State University at Mankato,
where I was one of 5 students from the Southern United States. I was asked if people ever thought I
wasn t as smart because of my accent, if I had to walk to school, if we had outhouses, if we had
electricity, and the list goes on. I had been in the military and traveled across the country and had
never been asked questions like that before. It must have been because they had never really been
exposed to someone from the South other than television or movies as I could come to no other
conclusion. The problem is much worse for minorities because larger numbers of people have and act
on these preconceived ideas without realizing that everyone is an individual regardless of the color of
their skin or ethnicity. Because of the Slavery Era and years of mistreatment, African Americans most
likely suffer the most from stereotypes that have been passed down for over 150 years. The most
ridiculous one I ever heard growing up was that African Americans had tails. Older people would tell
white children this crazy tale to keep us from going around people of color. This belief is still around
today, but is seldom heard. Many others stereotypes really hurt African Americans in their quest to be
treated equal such as them being lazy, uneducated, violent, gangbangers, and

Homosexuality In The Hairdresser Of Harare By Tendai Huchu
Those being oppressed by their government must find a way to keep a sense of themselves and their
beliefs despite others attempts to change them. In the Hairdresser of Harare by Tendai Huchu,
Dumisani is a gay man in a country that heavily discriminates against homosexuality. Dumi is under
constant threat of having his sexuality discovered and being punished by torture or imprisonment.
Despite this fear, he is able to overcome the disdain his society holds in order to embrace who he truly
is, You see for a long time I used to think of my gayness as a cancer for which I needed treatment.
Then I met Colin and he told me how wrong I was. Now I realize it is simply something I was born
with (438.) Dumi s ability to thrive in the face of adversity allows him to be himself and overcome the
limits imposed on him by the Zimbabwean government. He embraces his identity and form
friendships and romantic relationships with people who understand him. He stays in the country that is
attempting to reject him in order to be with his lover, family, and friends. He understands the threat he
faces, but it does not prevent him being with the man he loves or coming out to his family. In this way,
the LGBT community and other people whose lifestyles or beliefs conflict with their society s ideals
persist through the judgment of others simply by being themselves unashamedly. When in a position
where one s beliefs contradict those of their society a person s negative capability allows them

Post Retirement Issues Experienced By Athletes Essay
The previous sections highlighted post retirement issues experienced by athletes, (i.e., hardships,
future concerns, identity issues, career planning decisions, etc.). To summarize, the literature has
consistently supported that most athletes struggle with retirement (Warriner Lavallee, 2008;
McGannon Mauws, 2000; Reifsteck, 2011), and that athletes who are forced to retire may experience
more transition related difficulties than those who are not (Lavallee, Gordon, Grove, 1997; Heird
Stienfeldt, 2013). Since the average age of athletic retirement is 33 years old (Hadavi, 2011), most
retired athletes are required to obtain a new occupation; however, most athletes have difficulty
obtaining a job or feeling competent once they find a job (Stephan, Bilard, Ninot, Deligniers, 2003).
Furthermore, Stephan, Bilard, Ninot and Delignieres (2003) found that athletes revealed feelings of
incompetence towards their new occupation that lasted as long as 8 months. Therefore, a review
evaluating successful career planning models in general is necessary, as there are few post retirement
career planning models for athletes in existence (Lavallee, 2005; Morris Cherry, 2007; Stambulova,
2010). Prominent career planning models that will be discussed include Holland s theory of vocational
personalities, organizational investment, narrative career counseling, and social cognitive career
theory.
Holland s theory of vocational choice has become highly successful, since its

Sexually transmitted infections are a very current, modern day health care issue. These infections are
passed during unprotected genital, anal or oral sex. There are sometimes symptoms of the various
infections however there are some infections that can also be symptom free and therefore can go
undetected for quite some time. Young people in the UK typically aged 15 24 have the highest rates of
sexually transmitted infections. There is a link between this age group and those living in
socioeconomically deprived areas, suggesting these particular regions need better and easier access to
healthcare services in order to detect, treat and avoid further spreading and damage caused by the
infections. Raising awareness of the causes of each infection and symptoms is vital. The most

James Dean: The Man That Lives On
James Dean once said, If a man can bridge the gap between life and death, I mean, if he can live on
after he s died, then maybe he was a great man. James Dean probably did not know he would be a man
that would qualify for this statement at the time it was said, but there is no doubt that he lived to
achieve it (Howlett 1). James Dean is an important American figure because he represented a powerful
character to many people, was a very popular and successful actor, and he was able to encourage a
new way of thought among a not so expressive society. Today we remember Mr.Dean as the
spontaneous character that inspired a new way of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He did however have one serious relationship towards the beginning of his career. The girl s name was
Liz Sheridan and she was engaged to James. After his engagement ended, he still managed to have
countless lovers. He was even rumored to having an affair with Marilyn Monroe. His lovers ranged
from both sexes, though he never had defined himself as bisexual (James Dean). This daringness to
oppose society was one of the Dean s most famous qualities.
James Dean was able to represent a society challenging and influential individual on and off the
screen. Yes his talent itself left many in awe, but it was more of the impact he was able to have on
people s perspectives. James s characters were easy to relate to since they all represented him quite
accurately. All three of his films were a major success. These films are east of Eden, Rebel Without a
Cause, and Giant. Even with his short life, he was nominated many times and won two awards. His
nominations included two Golden Globe awards (which he won), two BAFTA awards, and two
Academy Awards. His nominations were mostly for best actor (Awards). This was most likely because
his passion for his art really showed in his films. James really was a well trained and strict actor even
though his persona gave off a more casual and relaxed vibe. James wrote in a letter to his family:
I have made great strides in my craft. After months of auditioning, I am

  • 2. The Theoretical Relevance Of Marx s Theory Of Alienation The theoretical relevance of Marx s theory of alienation has been the subject of much contention since the posthumous publication of his Economic and Philosophical manuscripts in (). While the notion of alienation, along with its distinctly Hegelian underpinnings, has frequently been dismissed as a youthful error in comparison with Marx s supposedly more mature work, I argue that it is fundamental to his critique of capitalism. As Sayers (p.xi) notes, After his early period, Marx did not often use the term it and much other Hegelian language is for the most part abandoned. Nevertheless, the concept of alienation is implicit throughout Marx s work, and it continues to provide a major basis for his understanding of capitalism and for his critique of the impact of the market . It is important to relate Marx s philosophical project back to the always implicit notion of alienation as a set of relations between people and as a mode of being in the material world specific to capital(ism), otherwise there is a risk of overlooking the human relationships that underpin the capitalist mode of production. As Ollman () points out, By dismissing the essential human relations, the basic relations of alienation which underly capitalist production, its surface relations become everything (p.202). So, in dismissing the human relationships that maintain a given mode of production, it is reified thus, any critique that does not take this into consideration fails to address the matter ... • 3. Edgar Allen Poe Analytical Essay When looking at a piece of literature through a psychological approach it is easy to apply Sigmund Freud s theories of the id, ego, and superego, which focus on conscious and unconscious behavior. When analyzing many of Poe s works, critics tend to look through a psychological lens. Specifically in Poe s The Black Cat. Some critics believe that Poe s alcoholism is reflected in the piece, but many, such as James W. Gargano advised the tales readers to avoid the biographical pitfall of seeing Poe and the first person narrator of The Black Cat as identical literary twins (Piacentino 1). It is due to his childhood that Poe s narrator in The Black Cat subconsciously places animals before humans, thus leading to him to murder his wife. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Freud interpreted these theories, and came up with his own theory that intrapsychic conflicts (conflicts with in the individual) between basic biological urges and societal standards lead to abnormal behavior (Bruce 2). Sigmund Freud s theories are relevant because subconsciously Poe s narrator in The Black Cat has suppressed his negative feelings toward humans. It is this precise unconscious thinking that Freud bases human nature upon. Understanding how ones mind works is important in order to analyze ones actions. This is important in The Black Cat because very early on the narrator reveals his overwhelming love for animals, and how he places them before humans. When the narrator relays the story the reader learns that he is awaiting execution for the murder of his wife (Piacentino 2). French critic Gerard Genette who specializes in the study of narrative theory notes narration always says less than it knows, but it often makes known more then it says (Piacentino 2). This is true of the autobiographical narrative of The Black Cat. The narrator is trying to present himself as a calm man with self control, however the more he talks the more he leaks his insanity. He offers rationalizations for his past actions, and facts about his childhood. The narrator, by the end of the story, has revealed himself to be a vicious and violent abuser of animals and people alike. He ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Bedside Handover Using Isbar Frameworks Bedside handover using ISBAR frameworks has proven in promotion of patient satisfaction, especially for the patient s safety. However, there are some barriers that were identified in the effectiveness of bedside handover. These barriers may involve different factors such as environmental and human. Thus, this literature review will be focusing on various themes on the effectiveness of bedside handover using ISBAR, which will then be compared and contrasted; and the most common barriers to effective bedside handover will be explored. The question that has been formulated is why is bedside handover with ISBAR considered to be the safest and most effective form of handover, and what are the common barriers that limit its execution in the clinical arena? It has been proven that bedside handover with ISBAR has provided a safety transition and met patient s satisfaction that gives more opportunity to clarify information (ACSQHC 2012). Although, bedside handover with ISBAR is strictly implemented, there are difficulties in the application due to changes in complex social practices of nurses that somehow limits its uptake (ACSQHC 2012, cited in Jeffcott, Evans Cameron 2009). This literature review sought to study the rationale as to the effectiveness of bedside handover with ISBAR framework in clinical settings; and to identify the common barriers to effective communication in bedside handover. The main themes that will be included are the dyadic relationship between the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Analysis Of Small Steps Author Style To start off, Louis Sachar writes in many different styles in the different books he writes. There are many different books that he has written and has gotten many awards. Sachar won the Newbery Medal for one of his top selling books, called Holes. Another book that he is written is called Small Steps. Small Steps is about how you have one thing at a time in life and not do so many things at once. In the book Small Steps, Louis Sachar uses figurative language, conflict to help keep the reader engaged, and uses the same character s name in multiple of his books as his writing style. One style that Louis Sachar uses in the book Small Steps is conflict. Conflict is a struggle between opposing forces or when two characters in a story get in a fist fight or just a fight over a conversation. In the book Small Steps, an example of conflict is on page 217, She picked up her cup and tossed the contents at him, splattering him with coffee and cream. Kira got mad at Armpit because Armpit said that Kira should consider another profession besides singing and Kira was really upset that Armpit said that. Kira tossed the cup of coffee at him while everyone in the store stared at Armpit with coffee all over his shirt. This relates to the author s style because Sachar likes to use a lot conflict in his books to keep the reader engaged. Another example of conflict in the book Small Steps is on page 199, Moses whacked him on the side of his head. X Ray gets hit on the side of his head very hard by Moses, who is a man who wants the counterfeit tickets that X Ray has. X Ray s glasses broke, and his tickets were stolen by Moses, while X Ray lay on the floor after he got punched in the face. Sachar uses a lot of conflict in the books he writes. In addition to conflict, another style that Louis Sachar uses in his books, especially Small Steps and Holes, is figurative language. Figurative language is a language that uses words of expressions with a meaning that is different from the literal interpretation. It also uses exaggerations or alterations to make a linguistic point. An example of figurative language in Small Steps ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Essay On American Identity The American Identity American |adjective| of, relating to, or characteristic of the United States or its inhabitants. This is the literal meaning of American, but isn t there more? Most just look on a shallow level of what the United States were actually founded on. People will say that this country is based only on having rights which may be true, however we have many freedoms here that citizens of other countries cannot even begin to comprehend This community is full of citizens who have strong views politically. I have noticed many people saying, Being American means you have gun rights! Means you have the ability to say whatever, whenever and nobody can say anything about it! I find this sad because so many of the people who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I will admit I am guilty of this. Many people will not admit to this. Many will just assume things and cave into the stereotypes the rest of the world believes. People will judge others because of who they are, what they love, or their beliefs. The first amendment does clearly state we have a freedom of speech but why does this have to be used as a negative asset? We could use it as a tool instead of a weapon, used to criticize another being. People have started to believe in stereotypes again with a trust so great, that I will never be able to understand it. Blinded by these ideas they started to use them in a horrible way to separate themselves from another culture that is wonderful. All of this done in the face of fear, the fear of another day to be dreaded like that of 11.9.01. One of my favorite things to read are American stereotypes. Sometimes I will read the most hilarious things and other times I am absolutely shocked by what I find. Americans are viewed as rude and overweight people, who do not know anything about the world around them. (I do not like to be bound by stereotypes and try to break the trend .) To be honest I do believe in some of these because some are true. However The U.S. is viewed as a place of freedom where even in crises we can come together to mend the nation together again, as neighbors and friends even if we don t agree on ... • 7. Medical Treatment Of The Modern World Working medical treatment in the ancient world was something rare to find as there was little understanding about how the human body worked. Many believed that the sick were being punished by God and were shunned by society. Many societies also shunned those that were not like them, refusing to give them any medical treatment. While medical treatment in other areas in the Afro Eurasian world was primitive, Islamic hospitals, had made great strides in the medical field. Although Islamic hospitals were largely secular, they were influenced by the religion of Islam from improving the lives of those at the hospital to driving the research of medicine, however, much influence came, not from the Qu ran or other Islamic holy books, but from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They were also built as a retirement home and insane asylum. Before hospitals, there were traveling lodges that were attended by priests, however, the treatments were just prayers and sacrifices. At a hospital anyone could get treatment , gender, social status, religion, and ethnicity did not matter. There were even separate wards for gender and different conditions and male and female nurses for the separate genders. The service was free and the hospitals were financed from the revenues of wealthy men. While the hospitals served as medical schools to train students and advance medical knowledge, only qualified physicians were allowed to practice medicine. They were also were the first in history to keep records of patients and the treatments. Hospitals were equipped with extensive libraries, conference halls and housing facilities for students and doctors to use. Islam has played a major role in influencing Muslim hospitals, from improving the lives of everyone there to dictating the treatment of the mentally ill. One of the five pillars dictate that a muslim must pray five times a day. For certain conditions an ablution is required, so Muslim hospitals were required to provide patients and employees with an unlimited supply of water and bathing facilities. To fulfill one s spiritual needs there was a mosque for Muslim patients and a chapel for Christian patients. Throughout history, treatment of the mentally ill has mostly been negative. Many ... • 8. The Pricing Strategy Of T Shirts This type of pricing gives customers a good deal and encourages them to buy more which saves on packaging in which seller gives quantity discount. In this case the bundle of 5 T shirts s priced lower than the sum of the price of individual T shirt. This type of pricing is based on the demand schedule where customers may have high willingness to pay for T shirt but not for 5 T shirts, and the pricing discount is to match customer willingness to pay. 5 T shirts are packed for one price using a bundling pricing which is a second degree price discrimination that used to extract consumer surplus. This is an example of a promotional bundle in the mixed bundling category in which the bundled price of the 5 Tshirt is lower than the total price of individual product price added together. The consumers have the choice of buying packs of 5 T shirts or buying a T shirt without the pack. In this pricing strategy identical T shirts are packaged together in order to enhance profits by forcing customers to make an all decision. The mixed bundling pricing provides a means by which the company can get the consumer to pay the full value of the 5 units of packaging 5 T shirt a product and selling them as one package, the company can earn more than selling per T shirt price. The profit maximizing price is the 5 T shirt for $10 on a pack is the total value the consumer receives for the package, including consumer surplus and business could enhance profits even consumers have identical demands. ... • 14. The Effects Of Conflict On The Workplace Conflict in the workplace is something that s been going on for centuries. Although we think of conflict as negative, it can also have a positive impact. In this paper we will look at both the negative and positive impact of conflict in the workplace. Conflict is opposition or antagonism toward other individuals or things (Hegar, Human Relations at Work, pg 480). For example, if your co worker was given an award for outstanding work performance but you feel that you were more deserving of the award. Now there is a conflict between you two. Even if you do feel like you are more deserving, you should still try and keep that to yourself and get your work done. Holding that type of animosity just creates more conflict. Two types of conflict that are important in human relations are conflict at the individual level and conflict at the organizational level. When needs of individuals are at odds conflict can develop. The reasons for this are frustration and interpersonal conflict. Some of our biggest frustrations come from the workplace. It may be because we feel that our work in unfulfilling, co workers that we don t get along with demanding structures within the organization that seem to micromanage us. In most instances we feel that our options for real fulfillment at work are limited which creates conflict inside us. Intrapersonal conflict occurs when a person or group of people frustrates or interferes with another person s efforts at achieving a goal (Hegar, Human Relations ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The creation of the Constitution was created to make sure American s always had these rights. This led to a Utopian world in the eyes of congress when it was really Dystopian. The 18th Amendment known as the Prohibition era was expected to be good for America when in reality it brought more problems than expected. After seeing the problems Prohibition caused, the 21st Amendment was enforced and put an end to the era and the dystopian aspect of it all. The United States constitution was created to make sure that certain rights were guaranteed to America s citizens. The constitution was signed on September 17, 1787 by delegates to the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia in the presence of George Washington. The Constitution has been around for over 200 years and to this day has 27 amendments. America has significantly grown in population and the economy has expanded much more than the delegates could have ever imagined, but through all of America s changes, the Constitution has adapted as well. The first 10 amendments are the Bill of Rights. Even though the Constitution was created to make sure that American s had certain rights, it has also taken some away. The many derogatory and racist terms, used primarily by Archie Bunker, would not be able to said in a script for a modern day television show. Words and terms used to describe people of any non American race or people in general would be seen as non politically correct. The common racism theme throughout the show would degrade the idea of American equality, which is a vital necessity in our growing nation. The show also mocked religion, referring to a burning cross and roasting marshmallows over it. This kind of comment would create a national eruption of offended individuals. Today s television shows are reviewed to portray a politically correct message, or a decline in reputation will occur for anyone involved with the show. While All in the Family greatly differs from modern American television shows, it also contains some similarities. The show portrayed an overall theme of how people talked and acted in their daily lives compared to a fictional or dramatized movie or television show. In the 1971 show premier, racial inequality was a common theme in American society. The way Archie talked about others, and even the disrespect to his son in law and mocking of his wife, was common. The Truman show expresses that there is no true freedom in life without power, even though Truman had a wonderful life that felt free, it was actually entirely controlled, when Truman catches wind of this he starts rejecting the world around him in an attempt to feel true freedom. To summarize, the literature has consistently supported that most athletes struggle with retirement (Warriner Lavallee, 2008; McGannon Mauws, 2000; Reifsteck, 2011), and that athletes who are forced to retire may experience more transition related difficulties than those who are not (Lavallee, Gordon, Grove, 1997; Heird Stienfeldt, 2013). Since the average age of athletic retirement is 33 years old (Hadavi, 2011), most retired athletes are required to obtain a new occupation; however, most athletes have difficulty obtaining a job or feeling competent once they find a job (Stephan, Bilard, Ninot, Deligniers, 2003). Furthermore, Stephan, Bilard, Ninot and Delignieres (2003) found that athletes revealed feelings of incompetence towards their new occupation that lasted as long as 8 months. Therefore, a review evaluating successful career planning models in general is necessary, as there are few post retirement career planning models for athletes in existence (Lavallee, 2005; Morris Cherry, 2007; Stambulova, 2010). Prominent career planning models that will be discussed include Holland s theory of vocational personalities, organizational investment, narrative career counseling, and social cognitive career theory. Holland s theory of vocational choice has become highly successful, since its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

After his engagement ended, he still managed to have countless lovers. He was even rumored to having an affair with Marilyn Monroe. His lovers ranged from both sexes, though he never had defined himself as bisexual (James Dean). This daringness to oppose society was one of the Dean s most famous qualities. James Dean was able to represent a society challenging and influential individual on and off the screen. Yes his talent itself left many in awe, but it was more of the impact he was able to have on people s perspectives. James s characters were easy to relate to since they all represented him quite accurately. All three of his films were a major success. These films are east of Eden, Rebel Without a Cause, and Giant. Even with his short life, he was nominated many times and won two awards. His nominations included two Golden Globe awards (which he won), two BAFTA awards, and two Academy Awards. His nominations were mostly for best actor (Awards). This was most likely because his passion for his art really showed in his films.
