A Rose For Emily Grierson Character Changes
In William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily many aspects of theme are discussed and the way he
portrays the themes are different. By using detailed character traits, Faulkner depicts people in
the short story A Rose for Emily. Faulkner is able to show that characters such as Emily Grierson
has been dominated by an abusive father and have no control over the ideas of time or death.
Emily is a character who is crippled with fear, lacking the courage to live because of the control
and dominance of her father. Emily is such a multifaceted character that she could bear extreme
segregation and scrutiny. This extreme segregation and neglect are directly traced to her father and
his complete dominance in her life and how his treatment left her with reasons of... Show more

Her appearance reflects the events of the story. Emily s physical appearance changes every time
someone leaves or dies in her life. Her bodies appearance is a physical sign of how even though
her father has passes his abusive attitude is still evident in her life. The title A Rose for Emily
gives the indication that Emily has an issue with time or being in denial about time s progression.
Faulkner writes that the men in attendance to Emily s funeral have confused time with
mathematical progression. He uses a metaphor that time is usually seen as a diminishing road but
it is rather a huge meadow which nothing can touch. The characters that attend Emily s funeral
give a major aspect of what theme Faulkner is depicting. The denial of time or time s progression
is linked to her father crippling Emily through abuse making her unable to be independent, forcing
her to live her life under the utter influence and control of himself. Emily s issue with time is
directly connected to her other problem of accepting death. This issue in Emily s life is also a stem
from her fathers devastating abuse. Emily, solely dependent upon her father because of the
mistreatment, abuse, and absolute

Compare And Contrast Huxley And Thomas Moore
How did Aldous Huxley and Thomas Moore approach the perfect society in their writings? They
each created a society vastly different from the prevailing one of their times.
Thomas More coined the word utopia from 2 Greek words ou meaning no or not and topos which
mean no place for his novel Utopia (Miriam Webster 2017). His novel Utopia written in 1516
was essay of current 16th century English society. Each author is a product of their times.
Thomas Moore lived during the Renaissance at a time just after the New World was discovered
and the printing press was invented. The world was alight with new ideas and Thomas More
thought these new ideas could lift the masses of Europe out of abject poverty. People whose only
wrongdoing was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One defining characteristic of the Utopian genre is that the societies require their citizens to
give up personal freedoms in exchange for economic and physical security. In Utopia all people
are equal and people voluntarily gave up those freedoms. Draconian laws protect a benevolent
state and therefore the population at large. People can be killed or enslaved for breaking the
rules. Utopia was ruled by a hierarchy of elected phylarchs within this classless society. The
author Thomas More contrasts the Utopia classless society with entrenched European class system
which is based on largely on heredity. In Brave New World the world is ruled by a supposed
benevolent ruling class. The population is subjugated through the Bokanovsky Process, Podsnap
Technique and Hypnopaedia. These processes condition people to be happy with their lot in life.
Both Authors define the common good from different perspectives. Both societies provide the
basics of the common good. People were fed, clothed and educated by society. They had easy
access to medical care and housing. To Thomas Moore the common good also meant to nourish the
mind. He believed in a society populated by an enlightened, happy and productive people. This
intelligent population was civically involved and helped rule the land. People used the free time

Autistic Thronology Research Paper
The Link Between Autism and Otolaryngology
According to the CDC, about 1 in 88 children in the United States fall into the autistic spectrum.
If your child has autism, you should pay a visit to your local Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) doctor.
It is not uncommon for autistic children to suffer with maladies that can be diagnosed and treated
by an otolaryngologist. By doing this, you may be able to help your child overcome some of the
obstacles they face, and it might even help with any self injurious behavior. It can be very difficult
to pinpoint what it bothering your autistic child due to communication issues, so you want to make
sure that there is not a medical reason behind some of your child s behavior.
It is not uncommon for children with

A Brief Note On Good News For Trail Pounders !
Not far from Ebbetts Pass in Alpine County, sapphire blue Highland Lakes nest in a sub alpine
flat within Carson Iceberg Wilderness at 8,600 feet elevation. Flanked by Hiram and Folger
Peaks, the lakes are located six miles off Highway 4 via a lumpy dirt road. Surprisingly, though
the scenery in this neck of the woods is utterly spectacular, it is very lightly visited. Truth is, the
161,000 acre wilderness bordering Ebbetts Passsees fewer people than any area in the entire Sierra
Nevada. Good news for trail pounders! One explanation for a lonely landscape is the scarcity of
lakes. But, there are plenty of streams; the East Fork Carson River among them is a trout filled
beauty. If you are jonesing for trails that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That said, this wilderness shows more evidence of volcanism than any other part of the Sierra
south of the Lassen region. Highland Lakes offer a smorgasbord of recreation for outdoor
enthusiasts. Kayaking or canoeing on one of the lakes is bliss in this scenic, peaceful environment.
Additionally, a trail from the easternmost lake crosses big beautiful Gardner Meadow and leads to
petite Asa Lake and connects with the Pacific Crest Trail. A trail from the top of the campground
across from the western lake leads to a jaunt up Folger Peak, a non technical hike. Across from
the same lake, hikers can pick up an unofficial use trail to the base of Hiram Peak. Hiram Peak is
also a non technical trek, although along a stretch of ridgeline near the top, acrophobes will get
the willies and should stop. Views from the rather exposed section are nearly as panoramic as
from the summit. A stroll around the lakes is possible, too. Try your luck catching a trout or two
for your supper. How about taking a swim? Of course, there s always relaxing in camp with a good
book or catching 40 winks. In my view, Highland Lakes environs are a fine place to introduce
kids to wilderness activities, especially the short hike to Asa Lake. Here is how to get there. The
signed Highland Lakes junction (8N01) is one mile west of Ebbetts Pass on Highway 4. The
forest route is not recommended for trailers and big rigs. Follow the road for about

Improving the Records Management
Improving the Records Management
Implementation of Electronic Records Management Records management can be improved in
many ways. In my opinion, one of the ways is to implement the electronic records management.
The government should consider formulating policies, standards and practices, technical
specifications and training plans to enable its agencies including Mahkamah Negeri Sembilan to
manage records in electronic form. According to Arkib Negara Malaysia, The management of
electronic records is not a problem that needs to be solved. Its effective implementation in support
of program/ service delivery, decision making, etc., should be viewed from the perspective of the
extent to which it can lead to cost savings, cost avoidance, risk reduction and opportunity gain. This
means that electronic records could give a lot of benefits to the government agencies. As stated by
Arkib Negara Malaysia, electronic records management could help the government agencies to
reduce its costs. The traditional records management practiced by Mahkamah Negeri Sembilan for
example requires the government to actually spend more money. This is because, if we re looking
this issue from a strategic view then it is undeniable that the implementation of electronic records
management could save costs. The existing system practiced by the government requires them to
maintain all the equipments and also hire personnel to supervise the files room. Furthermore, it
contributes to the increased usage

Rikers Island Argumentative Essay
It s notorious, it s a place of pain and sorrow. This place is called Rikers Island. Rikers is a large
penal complex that imprisons nonviolent and violent criminals. However, it a jail that
discriminates against minorities.Leaving this dangerous place open the violence will only get
worse and more inmates will try to kill themselves like Kalief Browder. That s why Rikers should
be shut down for good. Minorities are mainly targeted at this facility. For example in Text 2, it
says, But blacks and latinos are overrepresented in the city s jail primarily because they commit a
disproportionate amount of the city s crime. If minorities weren t being discriminated against then
they wouldn t make up majority of the jail population The discrimination

Arguments Against Government Intervention
The governments that exist throughout the world were not built through the course of one day. It
has taken hundreds of years for humankind to come up with a structure that is even close to being
considered functional, from the Roman Empire, to feudalism, to constitutional monarchy, and
finally democracy, communism, and everything in between. And even while these changes took
place, not everyone agreed on the kind of governmentthat was to be formed, what a government
ought to do, especially when it came to how much say a government would have in its country s
economy. Some argued that it is necessary for some government intervention to take place in an
economy in order to keep said economy from getting out of control, while others insist that... Show

Indeed, during the Roaring 20s many people s quality of lives improved tremendously. Much of
the wealth that was acquired was through purchasing stock in companies, money which was made
back in as soon as a day. Everyone s quality of standard rose, it became easier to become rich
without working very hard, the more money people made, the more money they could spend, and
thus the economy kept moving. And yes, this was due to the fact that the government, for the most
part, kept its nose out of the economy and let it run its course. Everything was going fine, so why
should the government intervene in the economy and tell the public what they could and could not
do with their money? However, even the success of the Roaring 20 s had to eventually come to an
end with the stock market crash on Wall Street. Millions of Americans lost all of their money
overnight as the value of stock plummeted, many found themselves impoverished almost instantly,
and worse still, many were laid off, resulting in a rising unemployment rate and a longer soup line.
Things in America had never been worse, and things continued to get worse due to the fact that the
president insisted that everything would fix itself eventually without any help from the
government. Had the government intervened before the stock market crash, the Great Depression
would not have hit, not only

The Immigration Of Illegal Immigrants
The United States has been worldly known for its characteristics of prosperity, opportunity, and
freedom which ultimately form the famous American dream, in which so many individuals desire.
While this country s reputation and culture was built on the basis of immigration, the ideals and
viewpoints of this topic have strayed far from welcoming over the years. Both the Democratic and
Republican parties find faults in the overflow of illegal immigrants coming into America, but differ
in their strategies of devising a solution to this issue. In short, Democrats believe in giving
immigrants the opportunity to enhance our nation by contributing to their communities and
workforces, offering them an education, and strengthening social values by keeping families
together instead of deporting them. Their main goal is to form a road to citizenship in which illegal
immigrants can make their lives here permanent as legal American citizens. On the other hand,
Republicans have a much stronger view on the necessary enforcements and restrictions that should
be placed upon the flow of illegal immigrants. They believe that there is a defined line between
legal immigrationand illegal immigration that is causing the immigration system to fall apart. Over
the years, immigration reform has been a common topic of debate, especially during presidential
campaigning, with the Republican Party holding steady views on controlling border security, illegal
immigrants already in the country, and the

Hiroshima Essay examples
Hiroshima The stories and events that unfold in John Hersey s, Hiroshima, have certainly been
eye openers for me. As a child in middle school and high school I, we have all heard of the
atomic bomb and of course of Hiroshima, but never in as much detail or on such a personal
level as these stories. Not even in chemistry or physics class, where I learned some of the
specifics as to how the bomb works, had I known of the destructive force of the bomb or it s
gruesome effects on human beings. As I mentioned before, this book was quite an eye opener for
me because it has taught me just how deadly nuclear weaponscan be not only on material properties,
but on human beings, and why nuclear weapons must never again be used is such a way.... Show

The first story of the book we hear is that of the Reverend Tanimoto. He is dropping off some
goods at a friend s house for safekeeping some 3,500 yards, or two miles, away from the center of
the explosion and that house crumbles to the ground from the force of the blast. That seems so
amazing to me because in such a huge city, most of the time, you cannot even see two miles away.
It may be difficult for most people to appreciate the force of a bomb that can destroy something
two miles away, but most airplane bombs only destroy things within about 100 yards. That would
be everything within a football field completely wiped out, now imagine something that could level
everything within 35 football fields!
The book also accounts just how much pressure the bomb exerted and how hot the bomb blast was
according to scientists of the time. These were two other awesome statistics. The pressure of the
blast was estimated to be somewhere between 5.3 to 8 tons per square yard. A yard is slightly larger
than a person s arm and most people cannot lift more than a hundred pounds on one arm. Imagine
having over 10,000 pounds, or five tons, of pressure being exerted on your arms? It s almost
unbelievable. The heat given off by the blast is just as astonishing a number as the pressure. There
was evidence that clay tiles, whose melting point is thirteen times hotter than that of the boiling
point of water, had

Supreme Court Process
The Supreme court once handled a criminal trial? Today, the mere mention of lynching evokes
negative reactions from people, but in the past not so much. If you were a person of color, you
feared lynching because laws were either not enforced or did not exist to protect you from that
disgusting method of death. I want to examine the history of the court case, United States v.
Shipp (1906), to give one account of the American legal process eked a victory for African
Americans. The Supreme Court case is notable because the legal process brought few victories for
Blacks in the late/early 20th century America. For example, the thought of a Black man causing
harm to a white woman was fatally unforgivable and some were lynched by the public, regardless
of their innocence. In the case of Ed Johnson of Tennessee, he met that same fate; his sixth
amendment rights were violated in the process. He was a citizen of the United States, and
guaranteed the same rights as anyone else living in the country. In addition, Joseph Shipp, the
sheriff of the town failed to protect... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

before, during and after the case. Shipp received a hero s welcome when he returned from his short

China s Tenure on the United Nations Security Council
Introduction From the establishment of China s tenure on the United Nations Security Council
(UNSC) in 1971, Beijing was notorious for taking a hard line against peacekeeping operations .
Between 1971 and 1980, China condemned nearly all UN Peacekeeping Operations (UNPKO)
and refused to contribute personnel or financial support. Largely this was due to a firm stance on
respect for state sovereignty, an issue that was crucial to the survival of the PRC. Ideological
differences between the United States and the Soviet Union, coupled with domestic concerns, also
contributed to China s inactive role on the SC. China had suffered greatly during the Cultural
Revolution of the late 1960s and lacked both the financial stability and personnel to contribute to
UNPKO. However, even in this state, China never utilized its veto power to block efforts of
humanitarian intervention. China was afraid that any definitive stance would demonstrate
favoritism on behalf of one of the two superpowers. On over 30 votes throughout the 1970s on
peacekeepingmissions, China remained silent by abstaining from UNSC votes. China in the 1980s
was characterized by the economic reforms of Deng Xiaoping. After the death of Mao Zedong, the
new supreme leader of China launched his reform and opening program that drastically overhauled
China s financial sector. China wanted access to world markets for trade, investment, and
technology. For this to happen, China needed to demonstrate to the world its

The Effects Of Elevated Carbon Dioxide ( Co2 ) Essay
2. Impact of Elevated Carbon Dioxide (CO2)
Carbon dioxide (CO2) is a trace gas accounting for about 0.039 per cent or 390 ppm currently.
CO2 concentration increases by 1 to 3 ppm every year primarily because of burning of fossil fuels.
In future, by 2100 the atmospheric CO2 concentration should reach 600 to 750 ppm. Plants are
directly influenced by increase in CO2 concentration; and increase in CO2 affects many
physiological processes like photosynthesis, respiration, transpiration, reproductive processes, and
yield. CO2 diffuses from the atmosphere into leaves, via., stomata into mesophyll cells,
intercellular spaces, cells, and finally reach chloroplast for photosynthetic process. Increasing
CO2 concentration in the atmosphere will enhance the photosynthesis and dry matter production.
The response to CO2 varies among species mainly by the enzyme RuBisCo (RuBP). C3 plants
readily react by increasing the activity of RuBP carboxylase and by reducing the activity of
RuBP oxygenase. Increase in photosynthesis by 25% 75% was observed over doubling of
atmospheric CO2. C4 plants show little response to elevated CO2. Crassulacean Acid Metabolism
(CAM) plants also showed an increase in photosynthetic rate. The increasing concentration of CO2
by burning of fossil fuels can be reduced by improving the carbon fixation in the plants. Short term
exposure of CO2 on plants shows increased photosynthesis, whereas long term exposure shows
variation in photosynthesis and also plant growth.

Preparing to Mediate a Complex Contract Dispute in Florida
Mediating a complex contract dispute in Florida may seem overwhelming, even for the most
experienced attorneys. Complex contract disputes may involve multiple businesses and
individuals, as well as the careful analysis of various contract terms. Many complex contract
disputes in Florida end up in state or federal court, where they linger for months or even years
before they are finally resolved. However, mediation is also a viable option for these complex

The attorneys and the mediator should also discuss how the session will proceed for example,
will the parties be divided into groups? Which issues will be mediated first? Will mediation occur
over the course of several sessions? The key to successfully mediating complex contract disputes is
to carefully and thoroughly prepare for the session.
Finally, do not forget the importance of preparing your clients. Though this may be your hundredth
mediation, it is probably their first.
Business Divorces and Limited Liability Company Lawsuits in Florida
Limited liability company lawsuits in Florida can be a complicated process. Prior to signing a
representation agreement with a client in a limited liability company lawsuit in Florida, you must
make sure that certain issues have been handled properly.
First, you must make sure that the individual hiring you has the authority to do so. This usually
requires a close study of the limited liability company s operating agreement. In fact, a wise
practice is to have your scheduling staff ask these individuals to bring copies of their operating
agreements to their first consultation with you. This will save time and allow the representation to
quickly proceed.
After you have determined the issues in the business divorce (also called dissolution, since the split
involves a limited liability company) you should advise your clients about the advantages of
mediation.

Fritz Lang s Dr. Mabuse The Gambler
Fritz Lang s Dr. Mabuse the Gambler is a film about a man who is many things, or at least
appears to be many things. He is a gambler, a puppeteer, an actor, a player, a psychologist and a
criminal among other occupations. He has so many appearances that even after viewing the entire
nearly five hour film, it is unclear who Dr. Mabuse really is, and how he became who he is.
As the subtitle The Great Gambler: A Picture of the Time suggests, the first part of Dr. Mabuse
concerns itself greatly with depicting modern society, particularly urban life, as well as perhaps
critiquing it. The Time being referred to, in this particular case, is the Weimar Republic era of
Germany, a time of expressionism when Berlin was the cultural centre of Europe. ... Show more

placed on each stock is entirely based off of what people think the stock is worth, at the end of the

Major Events Of Babylonian Captivity
Research Paper 2: Major event This paper will discuss the Babylonian captivity, a major event
from the history of Israel from the creation of Israel to its Statehood in 1948. This event will be
discussed, from a historical as well as biblical perspective, what happened to the nation of Israel,
how this event impacted the surrounding nations, as well as God s hand in the event guiding the
nation of Israel and His ultimate purpose through the event. God warned Israel before they entered
the Promised Land that they will forsake Him and go after other gods. As a result of this, He will
scatter them among the nations. After the death of Solomon, the United Kingdom was split in two:

This is an important period in Israel s history because the captivity and the return and restoration of
the Jewish nation were fulfilling the Old Testament prophecies.
When Solomon died in 931 B.C., the United Kingdom of Israel was split in two: 10 tribes in the
North formed Israel and the 2 remaining tribes in the South continued under the name of Judah.
God punished the Northern Kingdom for their idolatry and in 722 B.C. it was conquered by the
Assyrians. The people were taken into captivity and they never returned to their homeland. The
Southern Kingdom survived until 586 B.C. when it fell to the Babylonians.
From historical perspective, the Babylonian captivity started after the Babylonian army defeats the
Pharaoh Necho s army at Carchemish in 605 B.C. The King Jehoiakim had to pay tribute to
Nebuchadnezzar II of Babylon. At this time Daniel and his friends Shadrach, Meshach, and

The Current Status Of The U.s. Economy
Despite the common assertion that all math is inherently difficult, statistics is rooted in simple
mathematical concepts. Descriptive statistics, as depicted by author Charles Wheelan in Naked
Statistics: Stripping the Dread from the Data, is a way to summarize raw data in order to make
immense data sets more manageable and understandable (2013). As Wheelan points out, everything
from presidential elections to baseball games can be summarized using statistics(2013). One of the
most prevalent uses of statistical analysis is to summarize data in order to reflect the health of the
U.S. economy, specifically through gross domestic product (GDP). Wheelan touches on the subject
of how statistics can be used in conjunction with economics; however, there is much more he does
not mention. The health of the U.S. economy is imperative to every American. It dictates whether
it is a good time to splurge on a pricey vacation, invest in a new company, or save for the future.
The only way to truly understand the current status of the U.S. economy is by being able to
interpret statistical analyses accurately, which may be trickier than it appears. Just like any other
topic, it starts with the basics (mean, median, etc.), but Wheelan soon makes it apparent that things
become a bit more complicated when one looks past the fundamentals of statistics (2013).
Interpreting statistical analyses is more than just being able to read charts and graphs. Descriptive
statistics is rooted in simplicity;

How Payment System All Over The World Has Experienced A...
INTRODUCTION
Payments system all over the world has experienced a period of dramatic change. Consumers,
businesses, and government are moving away from paper checks and towards electronic forms of
payment. Technological advances and competitive forces are fundamentally altering the payments
landscape, with important implications for efficiency, safety, and access.
A payment card is a device (embossed plastics) that enables its owner (the cardholder) to make a
payment by electronic funds transfer. This is the technology reduced the use of cash to purchase
goods and services. Payment card allows the cardholder to pay for goods and services based on the
holder s promise to pay for them. The most common types of payment cards are credit card and
debit cards. Payment cards are usually 85.60 Г— 53.98 mm in size, which complies with the ISO
/IEC 7810 ID 1 standard. They usually also have an embossed card number conforming with the
ISO/IEC 7812 numbering standard.
A payment card is mostly electronically linked to an account or accounts belonging to the
cardholder. These accounts could be deposit accounts, loan or credit accounts, and the card is a
means of authenticating the cardholder. The Wal Mart Visa/MasterCard honor all cards settlement
and the proposed First Data Concord EFS merger are just two examples of the dynamic forces at
work in this industry.
There are different types of payment cards. These are a credit card, debit card, charge card, ATM

With training camp a little more than three weeks away, some Dallas Stars players are starting to

The last few weeks of the summer I am always antsy to get back with the guys, Spezza said. I am

Spezza described his summer as pretty uneventful. He spent most of it in the Toronto area, relaxing

Comparing Plath s The Bell Jar And Its Affiliates
The Bell Jar and Its Affiliates
Frequently, a writer will express the same symbols and themes in a variety of their works. This
is the case with Sylvia Plath, who not only wrote a multitude of poems, but also wrote the
renowned novel, The Bell Jar. Three of Plath s poems that share similar elements to her novel are
Lorelei , Daddy , and The Applicant . These ideas include death beckoning the characters, an
unstable family unit, and sexism towards women. The poems Lorelei , Daddy , and The Applicant
can be compared to Plath s novel The Bell Jar, by examining the key themes and characteristics of
the works. The first of Plath s poems that is comparable to The Bell Jar is Lorelei . In both of the
works, death beckons to the characters. In Lorelei , siren like creatures beckon for the speaker to
drown herself. The speaker notes how their ice hearted calling (Lorelei 31) is compelling her to
commit suicide. This can be compared to the ocean waves in The Bell Jar, which [draw] back, like

This poem shows all of the sexist expectations of a woman that the protagonist in The Bell Jar
hopes to escape. The poem objectifies women as possessions that are supposed to bring teacups
and roll away headaches / and do whatever you tell them (Applicant 13 14). Esther, however,
detests these ideals, refusing to learn a new way of writing as [she] hate[s] the idea of serving
men in any way (Bell Jar 76). Esther also goes so far as to proclaim that she does not want to get
married. She states that the last thing she want[s is] infinite security and to be the place an arrow
shoots off from. [She wants] change and excitement and to shoot off in all directions [herself],
like the colored arrows from a Fourth of July rocket (Bell Jar 83). The objectification of women in
both The Bell Jar and The Applicant is one of the key elements that draw a correlation between the

Immorality In We
The Use of Mathematical Concepts to Symbolize Irrationality in We Yevgeny Zamyatin s We is a
dystopian epistolary novel about an engineer, D 503, and his experiences up until the time the
Integral is finished being built. The Integral is a spacecraft that will be used to travel to other
planets and spread the philosophy of OneState, which is the perfect society that D 503 lives in that
runs solely on logicand mathematics. Because D 503 lives in this logical world, he depends on
math for a rational explanation for everything; and ever since D 503 has been introduced to the
square root of negative one and the concept of infinity, he fears that these irrational concepts will
disrupt the perfect mathematical world that he lives in. In short,... Show more content on

However, an important use of the concept is used after the revolution is announced. In record
30, D 503 says that OneState s revolution was the last revolution and there cannot be another. I
330 argues by asking what the final number is. When D 503 says that there is an infinite number
of numbers, I 330 replies by saying that, There is no final one. The number of revolutions is
infinite (Zamyatin 168). D 503 likes to think that their revolution was the last one. However,
since there is an infinite number of numbers, there is also an infinite number of ways to live and
an infinite number of revolutions. There is no one to say that any revolution is the last. This
concept of infinite revolutions frustrates D 503 because he believes there has to be a limit, but in
reality there will always be a constant change and things will never stop. The best thing that
people can do to prevent this change is to limit the number of revolutions or rebellions. The way
that OneState does that is to try and limit the people s individuality and imagination. By limiting
the individuality and imagination of the people, OneState believes that there will not be any
revolutions. However, there will always be a couple of people that will slip through the cracks,
like I 330. That is why there is going to be a revolution that will ruin OneState. And after that, there
will be another revolution that will ruin the next and this will go on forever, just like

Observation Reflection
A few weeks ago our group sat in the Starbucks located on campus for 20 minutes observing
people who sat, stood and walked around. In this time we had four different sets of eyes looking
around and taking notes. The following is a summary of our observations to answer the required
questions. A difficulty we may have encountered if we would have stayed in the same location
longer is people would have noticed. People were extremely busy, but as time went by one girl
did notice there was something odd about our table and began to stare. That would have made it
awkward and caused a distraction of what our goal if more people noticed us. Another difficulty
would be our notes would have been repetitive and it would have been hard focusing. As observers,
constantly seeing the same thing, it would just be too much for us.
During the observation period we conducted as a group, we felt that it would be very easy since
we naturally observe people in our free time. Though through time we felt very creepy and
somewhat stupid just sitting around staring at people and writing notes. Nevertheless, an overall
feeling was that it was interesting sitting. We observed our fellow classmates, Rutgers students and
faculty staff who passed by.
Overall, in the quality and accuracy of our field notes and conclusions, we would be very
confident since we had four different perspectives observing the same location, front, back and
sides of the room. All of us coming up with both similarities in our

meek and undervalued young lady. Maggie is so unsure that her mother says she walks like a
dog run over by a car: chin on chest eyes on ground, feet in shuffle, ever since the fire that burned
the other house on the ground. This demonstrates that Maggie absence of self confidence make
her frightened to look. She imagines that on the off chance that she can t see the individuals
around her, then they can t see her. What s more, Maggie s discernible scars have impacted on
the way she conducts herself. As indicated by Mama, when she was pulling Maggie out of the
fire, her arms were adhering, her hair was smoking, and her dress was tumbling off her in
minimal dark papery pieces. This is huge light of the fact that indicates how much the flame
really physically scarred her. This additionally clarifies why she is so apprehensive about
individuals seeing her. Maggie s apparent compressed version of confirmation in herself is
created basically by the fire. The barbaric way Maggie s sister, Dee, presents herself awful impact

No matter where children are or what they are doing they ll always find some sort of

purpose is to make their product known to the public. Marketers aren t partial to certain people;
they target anyone and every age group, but recently there has been an upsurge of advertisements
aimed towards children. In Eric Schlosser s article, Kid Kustomers, he demonstrates how child

Schlosser refers to the Joe Camel ad campaign, which used a hip cartoon character to sell
cigarettes. A 1991 study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that
nearly all of America s six year olds could identify Joe Camel, who was just as familiar to them as
Mickey Mouse. Interestingly enough, another study found that one third of cigarettes illegally
sold to minors was in fact Camels. Not only do advertisers need a way to get kids to want their
product, they also need children to be able to persuade their parents into buying them that product.
The concept of children persuading other people to buy them what they want is known as the
surrogate salesmen. James U. McNeal s, professor of marketing at Texas A M University, classified
kids nagging tactics into seven major categories; pleading, persistent, forceful, demonstrative, sugar
coated, threatening, and pity based appeals. Kids learn what appeal or style works best on their
parents and stick to that ploy whenever they want something. Observing children in their own
environment allows marketers to understand the minds of children. Advertisers conduct surveys,
organize focus groups, analyze children s artwork, study academic literature on child development
and even have cultural anthropologists observe children without them knowing. Marketers do all
that research so they can get a grasp on what children are most

tones, and imagery. He tells a story of a man who is clever enough to hear the Siren s song and not

his crew s ears with wax and asking them to tie him to the ship.. An example is, My faithful

Sodium Ion Essay
4. As mentioned in the case description, tetrodotoxin is a molecule that blocks voltage gated
sodium ion channels. Describe the structure of a sodium ion.
A sodium ion is essentially a sodium atom which had been oxidized, losing one electron and
gaining a positive charge. Thus, the atomic structure of a sodium ion is an atom with 11 protons in
its nucleus, but only 10 electrons in its orbitals, thus explaining its positive charge.

Why do sodium ions need channels in order to move into and out of cells?
The sodium ions need channels in order to move into and out of the cell because if the cell let any
type of ion in, the cell would become toxic. This is why nerve cells regulate the amount of ions that
enter and leave the cell. Also creating the negative resting potential of a nerve cell, which can fire
an action potential and conduct nerve impulses.
These channels allow for the swift intake of sodium ions and the change in net charge over an
extremely short period of time. Sodium ions are also too big to enter the cell without the help of
these channels.
11. What would happen to a neuron if it were exposed to tetrodotoxin? Be specific regarding its
effect on the ability of a neuron to communicate.
When a neuron is exposed to tetrodotoxin, its ability to draw sodium into the cell is stopped. There
is a guanidino group attached to the tetrodotoxin that is drawn into the cell. These toxic molecules
don t leave the sodium channel and block any sodium from entering the neuron. It takes minutes for
the toxin to leave the channel and they are often drawn right back into the channel once they
detach. When an action potential tries to fire in a cell with blocked sodium channels, nothing
happens. The potential can t be completed and the overall charge of the neuron remains negative,

The Revolution Of The Cuban Revolution
Art in Cuba was drastically affected from nineteen fifty to nineteen sixty and changed in the years
that followed because of the Cuban revolution. The oxford dictionary defines art as the expression
or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting
or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power, as
well as the branches of creativity, such as painting, music, and dance. Art and its many different
forms were heavily influenced by the Cuban Revolution. Artists find inspirations for their works
from a number of different resources. Inspiration can be found from a simple conversation that
sparks and idea to portraying a grave passion. In the case of the revolution, artists used their art as
a way to voice their views. This is why many writers, journalists, and academic people were exiled
during this time.
To clarify, the Cuban Revolution, which began in July 1953, was a rebellion led by Fidel Castro
and his allies to overthrow Fulgencio Batista. It triumphed six years later on the first of January
1959, when Batista was forced out of power by rebels. In the beginning, the Revolution and Castro
had tremendous support from almost all of Cuba as well as enthusiasm from others worldwide who
viewed the Revolution as an anti imperialist movement. The Cuban Revolution brought a great deal
of attention to Latin America. Mass media now allowed the world to be connected and aware of

In A Rose for Emily , William Faulkner uses imagery and symbolism to both illustrate and
strengthen the most prevalent theme; Emily s resistance to change. William Faulkner seems to
reveal this theme through multiple descriptions of Miss Grierson s actions, appearance, and her
home. Throughout the short storyit is obvious that Emily has a hard time letting go of her past, she
seems to be holding onto every bit of her past. Readers see this shown in several ways, some more
obvious than others. William Faulkneruses imagery to represent Miss Grierson s confrontation to
change by vividly describing her appearance. With the description given of Emily, readers might

She, Emily, is physically living but not in the present; she is stuck living in her past. We first
see this when her father dies, She told them that her father was not dead. She did that for three
days, with the ministers calling on her, and the doctors, trying to persuade her to let them
dispose of the body. (Faulkner). This depicts that she is enamored of the dead which is why she
resists in letting them bury her father. Emily did not want to kept denying her father s death so
she decided to hold onto him. By the description Faulkner gives, one may say Emily just did not
know how to adapt to change. With that being said, she feared change so she did not want to let
go because she was so dependent on her father and now he was gone. Once Emily passed on and
was buried, people from her town go into her house and discover a decomposed corpse along
with the strand of gray hair on the pillow next to what was formerly Homer Barron. Faulkner
explains in detail yet again what was found, ...What was left of him, rotted beneath what was left
of the nightshirt...Then we noticed that in the second pillow was the indentation of a head...we
saw a long strand of iron grey hair . With this being said it is discovered that she, Emily, had been
sleeping next to his dead body for years. These two examples are prime reasons one could conclude
that she had an issue letting go of her past. Throughout the short story Emily seemed to not want to

Health Information Exchange or HIE is a relatively new facet in the 100 year history of medical

information organizations, and government agencies according to national standards. (HIE defined)
More specifically, HIE allows nurses, doctors, pharmacists, and other health care providers and
patients to access and share vital patient medical information electronically, thus reducing the cost
and increasing the safety, quality and speed of information exchange. (HIE, what is HIE?) The
forerunner to HIE was the brain child of The Hartford, who founded the Community Health
Management Information Systems (CHMIS) in 1990 to foster the creation of a centralized data
repository in seven geographically defined communities. (Dullabh) The second great attempt was in
1996, with the development of Community Health Information Networks (CHINs). Neither of
these systems succeeded, because of the inherent problems which included setup and maintenance
costs, competition, limited information sharing, transmission issues, and political support.
(Dullabh) The next stage in health information exchange was Regional Health Information
Organizations (RHIOs), a neutral third party organization that facilitates information exchange
between providers within a geographical area to achieve more effective and efficient healthcare
(HIE, persistent). RHIOs had political support, and became the basis and the

echocardiogram is a non invasive ultrasound test that shows an image of the inside of the heart

Meetings Can Be Beneficial If They Are Organized
Meetings can be beneficial if they are organized correctly. A meeting needs to have a purpose. An
agenda should be created so that everyone in attendance knows what to expect. The individual
who is in charge of planning the meeting has a very important job when it comes to preparing an
actionable meeting. Tasks need to be assigned as well as deadlines for those tasks to ensure
everything that needs to get done will get done.
Unorganized Meeting I have attended a poorly organized meeting. The staff is left to wonder what
needs to be done and why did we meet here in the first place. Although we talk about things that
are being done in the office and things that have yet to be done, those tasks are just thrown out
there. The coordinator to the meeting does not have a list of individuals whom they think would be
good for the task, or either loosely asks for volunteers who may or may not volunteer during that
session. If an individual does volunteer to complete a task we are not notified, and if no one
volunteers I feel we are working it creating a duplication of effort. This session was highly
unorganized.
Four Steps to Overcome Ineffectiveness Next, I will discuss four steps mentioned in the textbook
that are utilized to overcome the ineffectiveness of meetings. These steps are assigning specific
tasks to specific people, review all actions and responsibilities at the end of the meeting, provide
meeting summary with assigned deliverables included, and finally, follow up on

A diminutive tribe called the Aztecs strolled around northwestern Mexico up until AD 1116. As
claimed by one legend, the Aztec god of the sun and war, Huitzilopochtli, ordered their people to

marked with a discernible indication. The sign was an eagle on a cactus with a snake in his

the Valley of Mexico. However, other people already lived there. They didn t want to allocate their

Parent and Child Relationships of Oedipus Rex and Live Alone
In society, the sense of family is one of the core values in life. One of the most common
relationships in a family is that of the parent and child. Throughout history, playwrights have
composed pieces containing the impressionable relationship of a parent and a child. Sophocles and
Deborah Salem Smith effectively use the strained relationships of Oedipusand Jocasta, and Helen
Warren and Clementine to develop their plays Oedipus Rex and Love Alone. While both plays
contain parentand child relationships, the type of relationship proves to be radically different. In
Oedipus Rex, Jocasta serves as the Queen of Thebes and Oedipus is an abandoned son of
Jocasta and current king of Thebes. In the beginning of the play, Oedipus, happily married to
Jocasta, has several children with the Queen. Jocasta s first husband was King Laius, and
together they gave birth to Oedipus. Jocasta and Laius heard a devastating prophecy, which
stated that their son was going to kill his father and marry his mother. In order to avoid this
prophecy, Jocasta and Laius bound Oedipus s ankles and left him on a mountainside to die.
Ironically, Jocasta and Oedipus relationship was doomed the second Oedipus was born. In the
play Love Alone, Susan, Helen Warren s partner and Clementine s biological mother dies due to
complications while under surgery. The death of Susan, causes Clementine s and Helen s
relationship to become closer than ever before, although at first it seems to be a little to close

All these systems were designed independently, targeting different service types, data rates, and
users. As these systems all have their own merits and shortcomings, there is no single system that
is good to replace all the other technologies. Instead of putting into developing new radio interface
and technologies for 4G systems, it is believed in establishing 4G systems is a more feasible option.
3. ARCHITECTURAL CHANGES IN 4G TECHNOLOGY
In 4G architecture, focus is on the aspect that multiple networks are able to function in such a way
that interfaces are transparent to users and services. Multiplicities of access and service options
are going to be other key parts of the paradigm shift. In the present scenario and with the growing
popularity of Internet, a shift is needed to switch over from circuit switched mode to packet
switched mode of transmission. However 3G networks and few others, packet switching is
employed for delay insensitive data transmission services. Assigning packets to virtual channels and
then multiple physical channels would be possible when access options are expanded permitting
better statistical multiplexing. One would be looking for universal access and ultra connectivity,
which could be enabled by: a) Wireless networks and with wire line networks. b) Emergence of a

Geologic Age Model
Topics for Discussion and Review
2. Explain why the geologic age model expects that fossils must have formed slowly over eons.
The main reason is that fossils have not formed in the present day minus the eruption of a volcano
or some other catastrophe (minus cave fossils). The problem is that is a glaring whole in their
theory because they admit that fossils can form quickly due to catastrophes. The more they try to
push away from the biblical model it leads back to the model of the great flood.
9. Why does the geologic age model attempt to date fossils by the rocks containing them, not with
historical data?
The historical data points to a young earth and that is a massive problem for the evolutionist. If
science went off that data they would have to come to a much different conclusion. The
evolutionary scientist have to have a much older earth for their theory to work. Without the

Bra Boys Practice Essay
Documentaries reinforce or criticise dominant representations of groups in society. Discuss in
relation to a documentary you have studied.
Images are a complex communication tool the intention of the creator and the interpretation of the
viewer may not be harmonizing. While Bra Boys seeks to criticise their infamous reputation as an
anti social and law breaking gang, the construction of the documentary has reinforced that dominant
representation of the surf group. Sunny Abberton s documentary of dissent, Bra Boys (2007) is
constructed to critique the dominant representation of the notorious societal group Bra Boys by
telling the story from the point of view directly from the underbelly of Maroubra itself. The ... Show

This example clearly confirms the idea that documentaries are highly constructed, offering a
particular version of reality which to different viewers may reinforce or critique the dominant
representations of the Bra Boys . The documentary does include elements which clearly function to
criticise and change the dominant representations by valourising Koby Abberton s achievements in
the surfing arena.
The inclusion of footage of Koby surfing successfully at a turbulent time with the law had the
purpose to re channel the focus from the negative aspects of the Bra Boys history to the
favourable events that portray them as surfing legends. Abberton was strongly promoting the
moral that the Bra Boys as a whole, turn their disadvantage into success as the surf was their
saviour. Koby Abberton was the figurehead for this storyline and by the use of his career
achievements; it effectively cancelled out the negative judgements that could arise from his court
case. The use of extreme long shots of the giant waves in Tahiti and Hawaii and the small surfer
riding the mammoth waves acted a strong symbol. The relative size of the wave which was further
emphasised by the choice of camera shot represents the amount of variables against Koby Abberton
representing the Bra Boys .

Step one, in your large pot place your beef bones, beef chuck, beef tendon, chicken neck bones, 3
cloves garlic, 1 whole onion, ginger, star anise, and 14 cups water, cooked on high temperature
till water bubbling. Once your water is bubbling, lower the temperature and let simmer for about
3 hours. Occasionally stir the broth and remove and bubble that forms on the top of the broth;
make sure you don t cover the pot. (The longer you cook your broth, the tastier it ll be.) Step two,
cooking your noodles; while your broth is cooking, take your second pot and put 8 cups of
water, bring it to a boil and add in your noodles, cook till it s tender. Now turn off the heat and
remove your pot and pour your noodles into a colander, rinsed under cold water and drained,
then set aside. Return to your simmering broth, remove all the meat and spices as well as the
bones. You can discard the spices and place your oxtails, beef bones, beef tendon and beef chuck
in a large bowl, picks out meat from beef bones, cut beef tendon and beef chuck to bite sizes and
set it a side. After you ve done that, season your soup broth with fish sauce, sugar and salt. Taste
soup broth and seasoning to your taste. Add more sugar for sweeter taste, or more fish sauce for
saltier taste. Keep soup broth hot on the stove. That s it for your kathew soup. Last step before you
start serving, take your sauce pan , heat it up, once sauce pan

Elements Of Terray
Long ago in a far off place, there were three fairies. These fairies were in control of the elements
and were much oved throughout the kingdom. The three fairies, Aqua, who worked with water,
Blaze, who controlled fire, and Terra, who looked over the land and earth. They kept the
elements in control, living upon the clouds and among the stars. They worked together, in
harmony, to make the world a wonderful place. Not all fairies are as good as these friends have
been. There are forces much more evil than the fairies. These bad forces are called wisps. They take
on the form of fairies to try and steal the fairydust that keeps the elementsin balance. If all the

Mary tends to Terra. She calls out to her sisters, Kate! Anne! Come Quick! She s here, she s here!
The girls walk out sluggishly. They have heard this all before. They give Mary a glance that is
cold as ice. They begin to turn when they see Terra s wings flicker. Terra sits up on her knees and
begins to speak, My name is Terra, and I m an element fairy. We know who you are, the girls say
in awe and amazement. Terra continues in a sad tone, I regret to inform you that nature is in
danger. As I was crossing realms, a wisp grabbed a hold of my dust. Now they have all three and
they can create a fairy in control of all the elements. This fairy can be bad and the only way to
stop her is for someone who believes in the fairies just as much as she believes in herself to
collect all of the elements and make her own fairy dust to sprinkle on the fairies. This will give
them back their powers and destroy the wisps creation. All eyes were on Mary. She stood up tall,
grabbed her flower crown, and placed it upon her head in triumph. She helps up her sisters and
says in a strong, and powerful voice, It s my chance to make a change! With those words they set
out to find three elements and complete the mission to destroy an evil

  • 2. A Rose For Emily Grierson Character Changes In William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily many aspects of theme are discussed and the way he portrays the themes are different. By using detailed character traits, Faulkner depicts people in the short story A Rose for Emily. Faulkner is able to show that characters such as Emily Grierson has been dominated by an abusive father and have no control over the ideas of time or death. Emily is a character who is crippled with fear, lacking the courage to live because of the control and dominance of her father. Emily is such a multifaceted character that she could bear extreme segregation and scrutiny. Her bodies appearance is a physical sign of how even though her father has passes his abusive attitude is still evident in her life. The title A Rose for Emily gives the indication that Emily has an issue with time or being in denial about time s progression. Faulkner writes that the men in attendance to Emily s funeral have confused time with mathematical progression. He uses a metaphor that time is usually seen as a diminishing road but it is rather a huge meadow which nothing can touch. The characters that attend Emily s funeral give a major aspect of what theme Faulkner is depicting. The denial of time or time s progression is linked to her father crippling Emily through abuse making her unable to be independent, forcing her to live her life under the utter influence and control of himself. Emily s issue with time is directly connected to her other problem of accepting death. This issue in Emily s life is also a stem from her fathers devastating abuse. They each created a society vastly different from the prevailing one of their times. One defining characteristic of the Utopian genre is that the societies require their citizens to give up personal freedoms in exchange for economic and physical security. In Utopia all people are equal and people voluntarily gave up those freedoms. Draconian laws protect a benevolent state and therefore the population at large. People can be killed or enslaved for breaking the rules. Utopia was ruled by a hierarchy of elected phylarchs within this classless society. The author Thomas More contrasts the Utopia classless society with entrenched European class system which is based on largely on heredity. In Brave New World the world is ruled by a supposed benevolent ruling class. The population is subjugated through the Bokanovsky Process, Podsnap Technique and Hypnopaedia. These processes condition people to be happy with their lot in life. Both Authors define the common good from different perspectives. Both societies provide the basics of the common good. • 5. A Brief Note On Good News For Trail Pounders ! Not far from Ebbetts Pass in Alpine County, sapphire blue Highland Lakes nest in a sub alpine flat within Carson Iceberg Wilderness at 8,600 feet elevation. Flanked by Hiram and Folger Peaks, the lakes are located six miles off Highway 4 via a lumpy dirt road. Surprisingly, though the scenery in this neck of the woods is utterly spectacular, it is very lightly visited. Truth is, the 161,000 acre wilderness bordering Ebbetts Passsees fewer people than any area in the entire Sierra Nevada. Good news for trail pounders! Kayaking or canoeing on one of the lakes is bliss in this scenic, peaceful environment. Additionally, a trail from the easternmost lake crosses big beautiful Gardner Meadow and leads to petite Asa Lake and connects with the Pacific Crest Trail. A trail from the top of the campground across from the western lake leads to a jaunt up Folger Peak, a non technical hike. Across from the same lake, hikers can pick up an unofficial use trail to the base of Hiram Peak. Hiram Peak is also a non technical trek, although along a stretch of ridgeline near the top, acrophobes will get the willies and should stop. In my opinion, one of the ways is to implement the electronic records management. The government should consider formulating policies, standards and practices, technical specifications and training plans to enable its agencies including Mahkamah Negeri Sembilan to manage records in electronic form. According to Arkib Negara Malaysia, The management of electronic records is not a problem that needs to be solved. Its effective implementation in support of program/ service delivery, decision making, etc., should be viewed from the perspective of the extent to which it can lead to cost savings, cost avoidance, risk reduction and opportunity gain. This means that electronic records could give a lot of benefits to the government agencies. As stated by Arkib Negara Malaysia, electronic records management could help the government agencies to reduce its costs. The traditional records management practiced by Mahkamah Negeri Sembilan for example requires the government to actually spend more money. This is because, if we re looking this issue from a strategic view then it is undeniable that the implementation of electronic records management could save costs. Much of the wealth that was acquired was through purchasing stock in companies, money which was made back in as soon as a day. Everyone s quality of standard rose, it became easier to become rich without working very hard, the more money people made, the more money they could spend, and thus the economy kept moving. And yes, this was due to the fact that the government, for the most part, kept its nose out of the economy and let it run its course. Everything was going fine, so why should the government intervene in the economy and tell the public what they could and could not do with their money? However, even the success of the Roaring 20 s had to eventually come to an end with the stock market crash on Wall Street. Millions of Americans lost all of their money overnight as the value of stock plummeted, many found themselves impoverished almost instantly, and worse still, many were laid off, resulting in a rising unemployment rate and a longer soup line. While this country s reputation and culture was built on the basis of immigration, the ideals and viewpoints of this topic have strayed far from welcoming over the years. Both the Democratic and Republican parties find faults in the overflow of illegal immigrants coming into America, but differ in their strategies of devising a solution to this issue. In short, Democrats believe in giving immigrants the opportunity to enhance our nation by contributing to their communities and workforces, offering them an education, and strengthening social values by keeping families together instead of deporting them. Their main goal is to form a road to citizenship in which illegal immigrants can make their lives here permanent as legal American citizens. On the other hand, Republicans have a much stronger view on the necessary enforcements and restrictions that should be placed upon the flow of illegal immigrants. They believe that there is a defined line between legal immigrationand illegal immigration that is causing the immigration system to fall apart. Over the years, immigration reform has been a common topic of debate, especially during presidential campaigning, with the Republican Party holding steady views on controlling border security, illegal immigrants already in the country, and the ... Not even in chemistry or physics class, where I learned some of the specifics as to how the bomb works, had I known of the destructive force of the bomb or it s gruesome effects on human beings. That seems so amazing to me because in such a huge city, most of the time, you cannot even see two miles away. It may be difficult for most people to appreciate the force of a bomb that can destroy something two miles away, but most airplane bombs only destroy things within about 100 yards. That would be everything within a football field completely wiped out, now imagine something that could level everything within 35 football fields! The book also accounts just how much pressure the bomb exerted and how hot the bomb blast was according to scientists of the time. These were two other awesome statistics. The pressure of the blast was estimated to be somewhere between 5.3 to 8 tons per square yard. A yard is slightly larger than a person s arm and most people cannot lift more than a hundred pounds on one arm. Imagine having over 10,000 pounds, or five tons, of pressure being exerted on your arms? It s almost unbelievable. The heat given off by the blast is just as astonishing a number as the pressure. • 12. China s Tenure on the United Nations Security Council Introduction From the establishment of China s tenure on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) in 1971, Beijing was notorious for taking a hard line against peacekeeping operations . Between 1971 and 1980, China condemned nearly all UN Peacekeeping Operations (UNPKO) and refused to contribute personnel or financial support. Largely this was due to a firm stance on respect for state sovereignty, an issue that was crucial to the survival of the PRC. Ideological differences between the United States and the Soviet Union, coupled with domestic concerns, also contributed to China s inactive role on the SC. China had suffered greatly during the Cultural Revolution of the late 1960s and lacked both the financial stability and personnel to contribute to UNPKO. However, even in this state, China never utilized its veto power to block efforts of humanitarian intervention. China was afraid that any definitive stance would demonstrate favoritism on behalf of one of the two superpowers. On over 30 votes throughout the 1970s on peacekeepingmissions, China remained silent by abstaining from UNSC votes. China in the 1980s was characterized by the economic reforms of Deng Xiaoping. • 13. The Effects Of Elevated Carbon Dioxide ( Co2 ) Essay 2. Impact of Elevated Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Carbon dioxide (CO2) is a trace gas accounting for about 0.039 per cent or 390 ppm currently. CO2 concentration increases by 1 to 3 ppm every year primarily because of burning of fossil fuels. In future, by 2100 the atmospheric CO2 concentration should reach 600 to 750 ppm. Plants are directly influenced by increase in CO2 concentration; and increase in CO2 affects many physiological processes like photosynthesis, respiration, transpiration, reproductive processes, and yield. CO2 diffuses from the atmosphere into leaves, via., stomata into mesophyll cells, intercellular spaces, cells, and finally reach chloroplast for photosynthetic process. Increasing CO2 concentration in the atmosphere will enhance the photosynthesis and dry matter production. The response to CO2 varies among species mainly by the enzyme RuBisCo (RuBP). C3 plants readily react by increasing the activity of RuBP carboxylase and by reducing the activity of RuBP oxygenase. Increase in photosynthesis by 25% 75% was observed over doubling of atmospheric CO2. C4 plants show little response to elevated CO2. Crassulacean Acid Metabolism (CAM) plants also showed an increase in photosynthetic rate. The increasing concentration of CO2 by burning of fossil fuels can be reduced by improving the carbon fixation in the plants. Short term exposure of CO2 on plants shows increased photosynthesis, whereas long term exposure shows variation in photosynthesis and also plant growth. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Descriptive statistics, as depicted by author Charles Wheelan in Naked Statistics: Stripping the Dread from the Data, is a way to summarize raw data in order to make immense data sets more manageable and understandable (2013). As Wheelan points out, everything from presidential elections to baseball games can be summarized using statistics(2013). One of the most prevalent uses of statistical analysis is to summarize data in order to reflect the health of the U.S. economy, specifically through gross domestic product (GDP). Wheelan touches on the subject of how statistics can be used in conjunction with economics; however, there is much more he does not mention. The health of the U.S. economy is imperative to every American. It dictates whether it is a good time to splurge on a pricey vacation, invest in a new company, or save for the future. The only way to truly understand the current status of the U.S. economy is by being able to interpret statistical analyses accurately, which may be trickier than it appears. Just like any other topic, it starts with the basics (mean, median, etc.), but Wheelan soon makes it apparent that things become a bit more complicated when one looks past the fundamentals of statistics (2013). Immorality In We The Use of Mathematical Concepts to Symbolize Irrationality in We Yevgeny Zamyatin s We is a dystopian epistolary novel about an engineer, D 503, and his experiences up until the time the Integral is finished being built. The Integral is a spacecraft that will be used to travel to other planets and spread the philosophy of OneState, which is the perfect society that D 503 lives in that runs solely on logicand mathematics. Because D 503 lives in this logical world, he depends on math for a rational explanation for everything; and ever since D 503 has been introduced to the square root of negative one and the concept of infinity, he fears that these irrational concepts will disrupt the perfect mathematical world that he lives in. When D 503 says that there is an infinite number of numbers, I 330 replies by saying that, There is no final one. The number of revolutions is infinite (Zamyatin 168). D 503 likes to think that their revolution was the last one. However, since there is an infinite number of numbers, there is also an infinite number of ways to live and an infinite number of revolutions. There is no one to say that any revolution is the last. This concept of infinite revolutions frustrates D 503 because he believes there has to be a limit, but in reality there will always be a constant change and things will never stop. The best thing that people can do to prevent this change is to limit the number of revolutions or rebellions. The way that OneState does that is to try and limit the people s individuality and imagination. By limiting the individuality and imagination of the people, OneState believes that there will not be any revolutions. However, there will always be a couple of people that will slip through the cracks, like I 330. That is why there is going to be a revolution that will ruin OneState. People were extremely busy, but as time went by one girl did notice there was something odd about our table and began to stare. Why do sodium ions need channels in order to move into and out of cells? The sodium ions need channels in order to move into and out of the cell because if the cell let any type of ion in, the cell would become toxic. This is why nerve cells regulate the amount of ions that enter and leave the cell. Also creating the negative resting potential of a nerve cell, which can fire an action potential and conduct nerve impulses. These channels allow for the swift intake of sodium ions and the change in net charge over an extremely short period of time. Sodium ions are also too big to enter the cell without the help of these channels. 11. What would happen to a neuron if it were exposed to tetrodotoxin? Be specific regarding its effect on the ability of a neuron to communicate. When a neuron is exposed to tetrodotoxin, its ability to draw sodium into the cell is stopped. There is a guanidino group attached to the tetrodotoxin that is drawn into the cell. These toxic molecules don t leave the sodium channel and block any sodium from entering the neuron. It takes minutes for the toxin to leave the channel and they are often drawn right back into the channel once they detach. The oxford dictionary defines art as the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power, as well as the branches of creativity, such as painting, music, and dance. Art and its many different forms were heavily influenced by the Cuban Revolution. Artists find inspirations for their works from a number of different resources. Inspiration can be found from a simple conversation that sparks and idea to portraying a grave passion. In the case of the revolution, artists used their art as a way to voice their views. This is why many writers, journalists, and academic people were exiled during this time. To clarify, the Cuban Revolution, which began in July 1953, was a rebellion led by Fidel Castro and his allies to overthrow Fulgencio Batista. It triumphed six years later on the first of January 1959, when Batista was forced out of power by rebels. The individual who is in charge of planning the meeting has a very important job when it comes to preparing an actionable meeting. Tasks need to be assigned as well as deadlines for those tasks to ensure everything that needs to get done will get done. Unorganized Meeting I have attended a poorly organized meeting. The staff is left to wonder what needs to be done and why did we meet here in the first place. Although we talk about things that are being done in the office and things that have yet to be done, those tasks are just thrown out there. The coordinator to the meeting does not have a list of individuals whom they think would be good for the task, or either loosely asks for volunteers who may or may not volunteer during that session. If an individual does volunteer to complete a task we are not notified, and if no one volunteers I feel we are working it creating a duplication of effort. This session was highly unorganized. One of the most common relationships in a family is that of the parent and child. Throughout history, playwrights have composed pieces containing the impressionable relationship of a parent and a child. Sophocles and Deborah Salem Smith effectively use the strained relationships of Oedipusand Jocasta, and Helen Warren and Clementine to develop their plays Oedipus Rex and Love Alone. While both plays contain parentand child relationships, the type of relationship proves to be radically different. In Oedipus Rex, Jocasta serves as the Queen of Thebes and Oedipus is an abandoned son of Jocasta and current king of Thebes. In the beginning of the play, Oedipus, happily married to Jocasta, has several children with the Queen. Jocasta s first husband was King Laius, and together they gave birth to Oedipus. Jocasta and Laius heard a devastating prophecy, which stated that their son was going to kill his father and marry his mother. In order to avoid this prophecy, Jocasta and Laius bound Oedipus s ankles and left him on a mountainside to die. Ironically, Jocasta and Oedipus relationship was doomed the second Oedipus was born.
