Ica Monologue
I don t think this will end well.
Ica looks disturbed. She looks upon her old Master. She never could have guessed that it could one
day end like this. Everything she knows will soon be gone, including herself. The thought of total
obliteration is very frightening for Ica. She never thought about Death, how it is like to feel nothing,
think nothing... be nothing. Her immortality was always something that gave her safety. For Ica there
is no fear greater than death.
I can t. I ve never felt like this before, but this time it s different. I am basically just a human, if it

Being A Hero Definition Essay
The true definition of being A Hero is : A person who , In the opinion Of others , has Heroic qualities
or has performed A Heroic qualities or has performed A Heroic act and Is regarded as A model or
ideal. My true definition of being A Hero : Is A person that stands out from another person , That Is
based on what the problem may be. Johnny and Ponyboy would say A Hero is someone who only does
good. Never Messes up or hurts someone. A person that only helps people all the time. We don t think
that Ponyboy And Johnny would say they are Hero s . Especially Johnny because he hurt someone and
that can never be fixed. Just because he saved a little kids doesn t really make him a Hero .Dally
would only believe that Johnny and Ponyboy would consider them as being a Hero. Because they have
so much stuff in common , between the two of them. Just because one person have something in

Promiscuity
Promiscuity. What is your reaction to the word? We all know a promiscuous girl. We all look down on
her in our own ways. Sometimes she is backstabbed by friends and sometimes she is openly scorned
by others. What we do not realise, is she is not the only one, or maybe we do not want to accept it.
Research positions us at first place on the podium of promiscuity. Why are we such a promiscuous
nation? What risks are we bringing upon ourselves? Are we all nomads in the land of sexuality?
Perhaps it is our loose lifestyles, or when growing up we are faced with confusion. A young New
Zealander s lifestyle of drinking, partying, and in some cases, drugs is the perfect precedent for a night
likely to be regretted, not remembered, or resulting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This may result in a decrease of promiscuity, as the new generations self esteems will be healthier. For
young people I believe the confusion they are faced with when growing up may play a part. Maybe the
transition into adulthood makes young people think they need to start being sexually active. They may
become desperate to feel belonging or companionship. These feelings could be likened to those of
Holden Caulfield the main character and protagonist of The Catcher in the Rye by J. D. Salinger.
Throughout the novel Holden is on a seesaw between being a child and being an adult. One of the
issues that surface for him is that of having sex. At one point in the novel Holden is faced with the
opportunity I kept hoping she d be good looking. I didn t care too much, though. I sort of just wanted
to get it over with. This shows Holden s feelings towards sex. Under these circumstances sex has no
signs of intimacy or fun. It is almost as if sex is an opportunity for him to grow up . Maybe it is simply
a rite of passage. It worries me that this may be the reason for some young people being promiscuous.
If they think becoming an adult means they must do this they are obviously not mature enough yet and
still need time to grow up. The statistics produced by a condom maker labels New Zealand women as
the most promiscuous in the world with an average of 20.3 sexual partners. New Zealand men were
not at the top like the women but still above average with

The Reformation And Counterreformation Of The Renaissance
The Reformation and Counterreformation of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries had a decisive
impact not only on the architecture of the time, moving from the harmony and balance of the
Renaissance to the painted heavens, extreme ornamentation and disturbance captured in the concave
and convex form of the Baroque, but was also replicated in the musical forms of the opera and the art
of the castrati singers of the period. In the church building, the basilica form was resurrected, not only
bringing public and priests into a shared space, but changing the church service to a more participatory
experience, in which music (particularly, the organ) played a significant part. In Germany, profound
differences developed between the churches and organs of the Protestant north and Catholic south. In
Southern Germany and Austria, organs were seen as decorative elements within the Baroque
decoration of the church, to the point that the sound qualities of the instrument were sacrificed in order
for the organ to fit into a specific architectural space. Here the organ disappears in the overwhelming
Baroque decoration and is considered nothing but a theatrical element in the Gesamtkunstwerk (the
total work of art). The most famous organ builders and greatest organs were all in northern Europe for
example, Arp Schnitger, who built the great organ of St. Jacobi in Hamburg in 1693, where Johann
Sebastian Bach applied for the position of organist in 1720 (and was rejected), Zacharias

Asoka s Influence On Greece And India
Greek, Macedonian, Roman and Chinese Empires absorbed many of the attributes of India by contact
through the Silk Road and Spice Trade Routes. These influences are reflected politically, in leadership,
culturally, in their ideology, geographically, with the migration of peoples, inter regionally through
trade, among the various regions, the spread of religion, artistic, as well as intellectual pursuits, etc.
India s influence on the Greece/ Macedonia territory was of great impact religiously. During the
Indian emperor Asoka s reign, around the year 260 B.C.E , after his conversion to Buddhism, he was
so inspired that he sent out missionaries to many areas, including the territory around Greece. (Spodek
244) Although not as widely spread as it was in China, Buddhism was spread throughout Greece
because of these missionaries. The relationship between Greece and India was one of commodity and
friendship (Video) When the Greek King Megasthenes traveled to India, he wrote about how the
government had such respect for him and foreigners in general. The peace in India could be attributed
to Asoka s rule and the policies of peace he enforced. Megasthenes said about the Indian people, The

As previously stated, Asoka sent many missionaries around the world to minister about Buddhism and
convert as many people as he could . (Spodek 244) He sent these missionaries to Rome, and this aided
the spread of Buddhism around that time. India and Rome had constant trade going on between them,
including the popular form of sea trade. When it all comes down to it, Rome mostly wanted spices and
silk from India and India mostly wanted gold from Rome. These trades recorded by both the
government of India and the government of Rome. (Casson) It was said, India was a well decorated
area during the times of the Roman/Indian trade.

On October 21, I visited the Historic Brownsville Museum on 641 E. Madison Street. Admission costs
$4 for adults, $3 for children and seniors, and $2 for college students with ID proof.
The museum was a complex rather than one building. The complex was surrounded by a black metal
fence. The main building itself maintained its original style. In the late 1920s, the area was build as the
Southern Pacific Depot freight line. It ran from Brownsville to Edinburg until 1952. Then, the
loading/unloading building began restoration to become a museum. Finally, the Historic Brownsville
Museum opened its doors in 1986. The complex contained three buildings: the main culture building,
a transportation gallery, and the educational building. The main culture building included artifacts in
different categories. The first room was the information desk and gift shop. The two museum guides
were unable to present a tour, but they happily offered any assistance if needed. The, the room at the

Tommie was looking for volunteers this semester, I jumped at the chance to once again be a part of the

Types Of Spina Bifida
Spina Bifida is a birth defect that causes an incomplete closing of the backbone and membranes
around the spinal cord. In early conception of pregnancy, the neural tube forms and by the 28th day of
conception, it is supposed to close. However, in babies with spina bifida the neural tube does not
close. There are three common types of spina bifida. They are spina bifida occulta, meingocele, and
myelomeningocele. Occulta usually has mild signs like dimple, dark spot, or hairy patch. Meningocele
is a sac of fluid at the gap of the spine. Myelomeningocele is the severest form causing motor
impairments, bladder or bowel control problems, latex allergy, or learning problems.

rates of having children with spina bifida. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Pregnant women should not sit in saunas or hot tubs since this could increase the chance of having a
baby with Spina Bifida.

Miller s Dramatic Effects of Dishonesty in Death of a Salesman
Introduction ============
Dishonesty is common throughout Death of a Salesman. Whether the lies are intentional or delusional,
Willy, Biff, and Happy tell untruths all the time, Biff finally realizes that they ve been lying to each
other and themselves so much, that they don t even know who they really are. Dishonesty is also
highlighted by Willy s relationship with the woman and his delusion in relation to his career. Finally,
Linda s honesty makes the other characters dishonesty move evident and therefore dramatic.

The fact that it does not occur to either of the boys that there s something wrong with this is very
shocking and the audience is left to wonder how they developed such an attitude
Biff
Biff is deceitful about his life but his dishonesty is compounded, as Willy is dishonest about him.
When Biff stole a football from the locker room when he was in high school, and he claimed that he
took it because the coach told him to work on his passing. Willy acts for a moment as if Biff should
return it, but when Hap implies that Biff was wrong for taking the ball, Willy defends Biff and
declares that the coach, rather than being angry with Biff for stealing, would have been proud and
impressed with Biff s initiative. Willy tells Biff that it s OK that he took the ball because the coach
likes him. Willy tells his son it s perfectly fine to steal from people, as long as you are well liked; they
ll let you get away with it. Willy finds it impossible to understand how someone who was as popular
and well liked as Biff was in high school, could have grown up to be such a failure. Willy always
believed that Biff s popularity would naturally lead to great success in the business world. But that s
not the way things have worked out for Biff, and Willy is baffled by it. Willy shows this by telling Biff
to pretend his work out West was business related instead

Compare And Contrast The 4 Colonies
The four colonies of Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New York, and Pennsylvania all had different
religious and political developments, which led some to complete freedom and others to light
toleration. Massachusetts was founded by Puritans, who allowed believers and nonbelievers to live in
the colony. While this may seem like complete religious freedom, it is not; the non Puritans were
forced to pay taxes for the government supported church. In addition, the Puritans made strict rules to
enforce God s laws and forced all people to follow these religious restrictions, such as no public
displays of affection. In contrast to Massachusetts, Rhode Island offered complete religious freedom
to every colonist. The founder, Roger Williams, did not

A Detailed Leader Profile From My Placement
Introduction: In this essay, public service leadership will be defined and analyzed. A detailed leader
profile from my placement will be developed and described using Competing Values Framework, as
this is the most effective model that helps leaders think differently about value creation and shows
them how to clarify purpose, integrate practices, and lead people in an organisation. Competing Values
Framework can be used to assess core competencies, decision making, human resources practices, and
leadership capabilities of a leader and organization as well. This study used a 360 Degree Feedback
model, which provides a holistic view of the leader by gathering feedback from a leader s manager,
peers, and direct reports.

Inside each quadrant, there are two roles with a total of eight competing roles that leaders play in their

Public service leadership:
Even before we assume our full time careers, we all encounter numerous leaders in different contexts,
whether parents, teachers, non profit or organizational leaders, who hold in their hands the power to
inspire us. One such leader I came across, through my fellowship program, is Nathaalie N. Carey.
Nathaalie is the first woman, first African American and youngest person to be the director of Budget
and Research for Broome County Government in New York. At 29, the native of Guyana managed
Broome County s combined $450 million operating capital and grant budgets. The Network Journal s
40 Under Forty Achievement Award recipient, Nathaalie is currently New York State Department of
Labor Deputy Commissioner Of Administration And Chief Financial Officer. The reason I chose her
for Competing Values Framework study is because she brings together knowledge, values, skills, and
behaviors, and most importantly recognizes value in others and encourages them as well. For example,
Nathaalie encourages me to think about work related problems in new ways, provides opportunities
for me to develop and grow, and prepares me for my next position in the organization.

Tolerance In To Kill A Mockingbird
As much as people try to avoid it, fact is that no one in this world is born equal; there is always
something unique that sets one different from another. It is those differences that require us, as
Barbara Jordon says, to accept people who are different that ourselves. Jordan emphasizes the
importance of tolerance and how it helps us develop into better societies and people. During the 1930
s, different races in the United States were being discriminated against their skin tone and placed on
separate levels. In more modern times, people were still being criticized for having different ideas and
while acting upon them. Even all the way in Iraq, discrimination is presented once again towards Jews
and their independent country. Anything contrasting oneself will never be the same as he or she would
like, creating a necessity to tolerate. Barbara Jordan s quote helps reveal that tolerance is essential to
avoid conflict, to unite with others, and to change for the better. The award winning novel To Kill a
Mockingbird, written by Harper Lee, teaches through the eyes of a young girl that problems originated
from intolerance. Atticus, a man defending a negro, poses to the jury the idea why the case is unfair.
He argues that The state has not produced one iota of medical evidence proving Tom guilty and in turn
has relied instead upon the testimony of two witnesses , whose claims have been flatly contradicted by
the defendant (Lee 271). To translate, the accusation was

Self Driving Thesis
Thesis Statement
The increasing use of computer technology in transportation will provide us with much greater levels
of safety and reliability saving potentially millions of lives, and make personal travel and
organizational shipping more cost effective. The fear of placing our faith in the hands of automated
transportation is unfounded. It demonstrates an irrational fear of losing control to technology.
Automated systems are statistically more stable and can be regulated to higher safety standards than
can manual human operations. Given time and further development, autonomous transportation will
become increasingly more common and prevent accidents caused by human error. This paper will
show that self driving vehicles are inevitably our future.

Fear of Technology
One major barrier in the implementation of intelligent transportation is that there is a common fear of
technology. In one study, only 37% of women and 50% of men say that they would feel safe in a self
driving car. On top of this 46% of those surveyed believe that a driverless car is unsafe (LeBeau). It
seems that the technology is advancing more quickly than consumer comfort levels. This is common
with many new technologies and yet, with time can be overcome.
The ultimate solution to the concern about autonomous transport technologies will be education.
Instead of viewing the AI as an ambiguous, malicious, unknowable entity (A. Walker), one must
become familiar with the tech in question. Taking a simple computer class may help. Certainly, talking
to a self driving car dealer or user will alleviate some of the stress involved in the change. Getting

Assassination Attemps on Adolf Hitler
Researchers have proven that Adolf Hitler, leader of the Nazis, killed more than 6 million Jews in his
lifetime. The resistance knew that they couldn t let him continue this behavior and needed to take
action. There were an estimated 42 attempts on assassinating Hitler but a man by the name of Claus
Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg came up the closest. Cornel Claus was a highly respected man due to
him being in the General Army Office as chief of staff, and because he led an assassination attempt on
Hitler, killing four Nazi officers. Claus was a very brave man for not only trying to eliminate Hitler
but also for his war actions. Stauffenberg was born and raised in Upper Franconia, Germany
November 15, 1907 ( Claus Almanac). He grew up into a noble catholic family in Southern Germany.
Claus went to high school looking to be an architect but eventually pursued the military due to family
history. He made a good decision by going into the military because of his future actions. Claus was
deployed as an officer in a cavalry regiment in 1930. He eventually fought in Poland and France from
1939 1940 (Leaders). Soon afterward, he was assigned to the army General Staff and for one month
fought in North Africa at night against the Germans. During the war in North Africa Claus was

Role Of Chivalry In Beowulf
The role of chivalry is a complicated concept for solitary heroes within Beowulf and Albrecht Dürer s
Knight, Death, and the Devil. In Beowulf, the concept of chivalry is explained through the eyes of the
hero, Beowulf, which is the idea of performing chivalrous actions in the face of death for glory;
however, Beowulf does not realize that his actions will not keep his people safe in the end. In Knight,
Death and the Devil, the idea of chivalry is the motivation of the knight on religious grounds to be
chivalrous in the face of death. The Knight gives the impression that he understood that his actions
would ultimately be meaningless, and he appears resigned to the idea. The argument can be made that
chivalry is unsustainable in both texts, given that while it inspires these heroes to pursue these tasks,
the result is that they believe that mild sacrifices, such as their own life, must be made to ensure
victory; however, these two texts differ with their heroes anticipated outcomes of their sacrifices,
which turns out to be for nothing. Despite having different outcomes of operating within a system of
chivalry, these two texts similarly critique the outcomes of chivalry as being unsustainable based on
the demands it places on heroes to sacrifice themselves. To defend this claim, I will begin by similarly
critiquing how chivalry is unsustainable within both texts. I will then express how both texts show the
unsustainability results from the demands of sacrifice. I will then

Chin The Largest Economy
At present, China is the largest economy in the world, overtaking the US in January 2015. It is also the
world s second largest oil consumer behind the US (Chen 2015) and the world s largest net importer of
crude oil (Dunn 2014). Its net importer status was driven by steady economic growth, with rapidly
rising Chinese petroleum demand outpacing production growth (EIA 2014). China is also the fourth
largest oil producing country in the world (Refer to Appendix ___).
The growth in the developing nation s economy over the past 3 decades was heavily dependent on its
low cost advantage compared to those of other countries. During this period of growth, foreign
companies flocked to China to set up production facilities and factories to capitalize on this cost
advantage. Raw materials are shipped to China, where factory workers build the final products and
export them out to various countries (Wassener 2014).
However, recently, china s economy has experienced a significant slowdown due to the shift in growth
of the nation to rely more on private enterprise and domestic consumption. This shift in economy
reduces its demand for industrial raw materials for manufacturing, which translates to a decrease in
demand of oil for use in production plants. A survey of China s industrial heartland identified
decreases in key areas of new orders, export orders and output prices (Letts 2015). Furthermore, being
the world s second largest consumer of oil, this move that China makes will have

Consumer Spending
ECO 2301
Principles of Macroeconomics
Anthony Le
November 30th, 2011
Consumer Spending Consumer spending is defined as the goods and services bought by the
households in the satisfaction of their wants and needs. (BusinessDictionary.com). It is also known as
personal consumption expenditure and is the largest part of aggregate demand or effective demand at
the macroeconomic level. Why is consumer spending important in the U.S. economy? In fact,
consumer spending is the single biggest determinant of the U.S. economy s health, accounting for
about two thirds of the United States annual Gross Domestic Product (GDP). A decline in consumer
spending could spoil the U.S. economy or certain market sectors. By ... Show more content on

This leaves less money to pay for discretionary purchases that help fuel economic growth. It is
estimated that every $1 increase in the price of gasoline translates into an additional cost of $1,000 a
year for most drivers. As a result, low income households began to feel pressures from higher energy
bills, which already affected negatively discounted retailers. Long term, the pain at the pump could
become more widespread. A survey released in April by the Financial Services Forum, an association
of the CEOs of 20 large U.S. financial institutions, reported its members view escalating energy prices
as the biggest threat to U.S. economic growth, ahead of rising health care costs and terrorism. The rise
in gasoline also caused the fall in auto sales. Cars and light trucks were sold at an average 11.41
annual rate in June, the slowest in a year. (Chandra)
Besides household incomes, high fuel cost and energy prices, interest rate is another key factor that
determines consumer spending in the economy. Interest rate hikes have already reduced demand for
mortgage refinancing and home equity loans, two significant sources of cash that increased consumer
spending in recent years. As interest rate rose, consumers most likely found it less desirable and less
reasonable to borrow against the equity in their homes. As a result, they tend to put off buying luxury
goods for their home, such as TVs, entertainment systems, or other goods. With the above aspects, we
as consumers are

The Impact Of Catalytic Clothing On The Environment Essay
Pollution is one of the biggest global killers, affecting over 100 million people. The air pollution in
Beijing, China, is so severe that it s equivalent to smoking 21 cigarettes a day. People are always
trying to find new ways to improve the increasing build up of pollution, and most recently this is being
done through fashion.
The idea of saving the planet is not new to the fashion industry, and many designers and
merchandisers have been vigorously looking for ways to make sure their garments have less of a
negative environmental effect. Catalytic Clothing shows that just by simply wearing a garment we can
stop the increase of deadly pollution, which I will be looking into further in this report to show the
outcomes which could be made if commercially produced.
This report also aims to show how Catalytic Clothing could having an effect on the of the
environment. (re word)
This idea is collective by the two founders of Catalytic Clothing: Professor Tony Ryan, a scientist
from the University of Sheffield, and Professor Helen Storey, a designer and artist from the London
College of Fashion. I will be looking more into Helen Storeys other work and how her
environmentally friendly ideas and creations have had an impact on not only the growing sustainable
fashion industry, but also improving the environment.

A Brief History of Cuba
In 1492, Christopher Columbus landed on what is now Bariay, Holguin province. He claimed this
piece of land for Spain and originally named it Isla Juana after the Prince of Asturias, Juan. In the mid
16th century an outbreak of measles wiped out two thirds of the natives, which most of them had
survived the outbreak of smallpox previously. In the 19th century Cuba s people were slaves, outraged
slaves began to rebel with the intention to win independence from the Spanish. In April of 1898 Spain
and Cuba went to war with Americas involvement which resulted in the Treaty of Paris in August of
1898 where Spain ceded Puerto Rico, Philippines, Cuba, and Guam. On May 20, 1902 The United
States of America allowed Cuba to gain its independence. The newly written constitution stated that
the United States retained the right to intervene in Cuba s affairs. In 1933 the Sergeants revolt

Essay On The Colony Of Virginia
The colony of Virginia was founded by a stock company: the Virginia Company. To attract people
Virginia made a wonderful charter. Emigrants who paid their own way to Virginia got fifty acres of
land. There would not be mere tenants. Civil authority would control the military. A council of
burgesses, representatives chosen by the inhabitants of the colony for their government, would be
convened as the House of Burgesses. The governor could veto their actions and the company still had
overall control of the venture, but the settlers would have a say in their own government, including the
right of the House of Burgesses to introduce money bills. The King s court appointed a royal governor,
someone who had never set foot on the land of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The governor chose six people in the colony to be in his council. The other fifteen people were chosen
by the king because of their family and wealth. In all, there were twenty two members that attended.
All the representatives were English. Each of the Virginian counties had sent a representative to the
house. The first meeting was on July 30, 1619. It was held in the choir of the church on Jamestown
Island. It lasted for six days, but was cut short by the disease, Malaria. Problems began to strike, like a
massacre from the Native Americans where they killed 400 colonists. As hard as the government tried
to conceal the problems, the king heard about them. He made virginia a crown colony. The king
divided the colony into eight shires. By 1643, there were 15 shires! Most jobs were simply
commanded to people. Only the representatives got votes to represent. Each shire would send a vote
for a representative to go and work in the House, rather than have it be just rich people. White men
that were seventeen years old or older and owned land were able to vote for these representatives. In
1652, Oliver Cromwell forced Jamestown to admit that they had been taken over. However, that did
not mean that their

Satire In Invisible Man
There is a deliberate juxtaposition in the opening pages of Graceland between the garbage ridden
streets of Lagos teeming with naked children and Elvis melancholy, retrospective and, (not without a
deliberate irony on the part of Albani) reading a copy of Ellison s American classic Invisible Man. The
monstrous slum of Lagos is crushing in its poverty; Elvis, despite the squander of his personal
circumstance, somehow doesn t fit the image of his city. Why, in a novel based in its exploration of a
poverty stricken African slum, would the protagonist live entirely outside of the normality of his
setting? Elvis is an aspiring dancer; frequently ambiguous in both his gender and sexuality, the
unprecedentedly moralistic teenager constantly contradicts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It is here that the power of globalization is most evident; Elvis is molded and guided by intangibilities,
and the city of Lagos is also understood through the ways in which it contrasts America. Despite the
literal geographical separation between Lagos and Nigeria, the colonialist influence of the western
world and the United States are clearly chartered throughout the novel. Admiring himself from many
angles, he thought it was a shame he couldn t wear makeup in public. That s not true, he mentally
corrected himself. He could, like the transvestites that haunted the car parks of hotels favored by rich
locals and visiting whites. But like them, he would be a target of some insult, or worse, physical
beatings, many of which were meted out by the police, who then took turns with their victims in the
back of their vans. It was exasperating that he couldn t appear in public looking as much like the real
Elvis Presley as possible. Struggling with his identity, Elvis desires to wear makeup without fearing
the retaliation of his community. It is in the implanted whiteness and pockets of Americanism where
that freedom is most closely accessible. Yet, the physical reality of the hotels (their literal placement in
Lagos) meant that the governing moral principles of Lagos prevented Elvis from being anything but
an outcast and a victim if he chose to express himself. The American presence in Lagos managed to be
pervasive while simultaneously having no palliative effect on Elvis estrangement within the slum. The
cast of characters employed by Albani, from the elitist white tourists to Redemption to Uncle Joseph
all serve to construct an image of Lagos in relation to America. It wasn t singularly the explicit
references to America or to Elvis s connection to the United States that aided Albani in his describing

While in the workplace you will encounter different personalities, followers and leaders. Both of these
are vital to working and both are equally as important. A good follower is someone who shows
support towards the leader, challenges constructively the leader or group s behaviors or policies is they
threaten the common purpose, and takes a moral stand when warranted to prevent ethical abuses.
Followers also play a key role in critical thinking as they are termed the best critical thinkers in a
group. Being a follower requires a commitment to the group to contribute within a collaborative
environment. A leader, however, is a person that was a great follower for a very long period of time.
Through following they have learned how to be friendly, learn social skills, and how to handle tasks
and emotions. One vital trait that a leader must possess it trust. If a follower trusts a leader, then the
trust within the group will increase. Teamwork chemistry will rise and this will, in the end, create a

Men struggle with their feelings and obsess by the figure of women s emotions. The male grotesques

Time As A DHS Student Of American History
I think that as my time as a DHS student that American History has been one of the most interesting
classes that I have taken a part in. I enjoyed learning about how we formed as a countries as well as
the issues that we faced internally and how we dealt with them. Something that I had never realized
before taking this class was how much art was effected by U.S. principals at the time. For example, in
World War II with propaganda in newspapers and in cartoons, we depicted the Japanese as inferior, as
well as less intelligent. The reason that they did this was so that people were not intimidated by the
Japanese and were not afraid to fight them in the Pacific. Before this year I did not realize the
profound effect that art had on society and how people viewed issues of the time. I really enjoyed this
class because it focused onto these aspects that other history classes did not go into such depth about
and opened my mind to different ways to make connections to ideas.

Abraham Lincoln Synthesis Essay

As a leader, do you feel as though you could unite subordinates, units, organizations, or even a nation?
Abraham Lincoln faced the task of reunifying a nation, even during a time of civil war. He was a
visionary leader through the war as his actions advocated intellectual stimulation through change
management leading to decisions that shaped innovative efforts within the United States Air Force
(USAF) today. Additionally, Lincoln was an ethical leader, not for the actions that history books
recognize with the freedom of slavery, but more so for the decision to face ethical challenges altering

Lincoln valued this idea and wanted Lowe to brief the War Department. However, the War
Department was not receptive. In particular, General Winfield Scott could not understand how this
idea would change strategy. General Scott believed it would hinder current operations and waste time.
Jarrow (2010) alludes to Lincoln s frustration and disappointment when Lowe returned with this
information. Lincoln s frustration stemmed from the lack of cognitive flexibility that General Scott
was demonstrating. The Thomas N. Barnes Center for Enlisted Education [BCEE] (2017a) highlights
that cognitive flexibility involves incorporating different thinking strategies and mental frameworks
into your planning, decision making, and day to day activities (pg. 4). Lincoln believed in Lowes idea;
therefore, he took it upon himself to go to the War Department and address the matter. A few days
later, hot air balloons were scanning the battlefields and relaying messages to ground commanders.
Lincoln s trust in this innovative idea and understanding of change altered the dynamics of war; now
aerial reconnaissance guaranteed information to the Union Army concerning the battlefield. This was a
small vision that transformed into an essential part of today s USAF mission of ISR. Now that we

Pathos And Logos In A Good Man Down By Lee Jenkins
A Good Man Down, written by Lee Jenkins, is about a small Iowa town and how they come together
and cope in times of despair. Ed Thomas was not only the high school football coach but probably the
most respected men in the town. It seems as this man would do anything to help out his community.
Unfortunately, Thomas was shot by Mark Becker, a former athlete, on June 24, 2009. In fact, Mark s
brother was playing for Thomas at the time of the murder. In this piece of writing, Jenkins uses all
three elements pathos, ethos, and logos to really pull the audience in and make the reader feel what the
town of Parkersburg was going through.
Jenkins explains what a great man Thomas was, Thomas delivered sermons when ministers were
away. He consoled husbands whose wives were ill. He presented baby boys with FUTURE FALCON
certificates. He taught kids to play football, sure, but he also taught driver s ed, making his students
learn behind the wheel of a John Deere mower before he gave them keys to a car. He worked every
day but Christmas, except this year, when he took a vacation to Hawaii and complained that he could
not relax. By adding this into his article, Jenkins is creating a picture of what type of man Ed Thomas
was. He is describing his personality in hopes that you may connect Thomas is to someone in your
community that is thought highly of. By the audience getting emotionally invested in this piece, this
shows the element of pathos. Also, by showing how highly thought of

Theme Of Betrayal In Jane Eyre
In the novel, Jane Eyre, by Charlotte Brontë there were many incidents that had affected the overall
plot of the book. Sometimes an author adds certain events or ideas to help accentuate the plot. In this
novel there is a recurring theme of betrayal. The one that seems to be affected by the curse of betrayal
the most is the main character, Jane Eyre, herself. Her first encounter with betrayal came about when
she was still just a child. And as she grew older and experienced the world new ways unlike before,
she could never escape the curse of betrayal. Jane s first encounter with betrayal was when she was
still a child and her Uncle Reed brought her along to live with him and his family in Gateshead, after
Jane s parents had passed away. Jane s Uncle Reed had promised to raise her as if she were one of his
own children. However, this only lasted until Uncle Reed passed away. After Jane s uncle had passed,
Jane s aunt and her three children had mistreated her and in some cases physically abused. On one
particular day she was minding her own business whilst reading Bewick s History of British Birds, her
obnoxious cousin John Reed was looking for Jane. Once he finds her, he treats her as if she was
inferior to him, he wants his cousin to refer to him as Master Reed. This already not being indicative

Last Flight by Amelia Earhart
February 9, 2017
For so much of our history as a people, we are often reminded of the many successful men that
accomplished things to make this world a better place. We are reminded about their long, devastating
journey to reach their goals and maintain their prosperity; however, not once do we hear of their wives
or female siblings. In the early 1900 s it was still presumed that this was the role of the man. A woman
from Kansas, however, rose beyond the clouds of prejudice her name Amelia Earhart. Determined and
hard working, this woman set on surpassing the limits previously placed on women, and in her book,

On April 8, 1931, she set the altitude record by flying 18,415 feet. On January 11, 1935, she became
the first person to fly across the Pacific from Honolulu to Oakland (Earhart 89 93). All this was done
during a time and place where people lossed their jobs, and the economy was bad. Unemployment rate
almost tripled between 1930 and 1933 as it jumped from 8.9 percent to 24.9 percent. Americans relied
on Earhart s successes as national achievements and viewed them as encouragement through all of the
unrest of the great depression. It was a signal that while America s economy was still weakening, the
country s spirit to accomplish was still strong. It was also a symbol that the American dream was still
active and that, at least in some way, those who worked hard would be compensated. Her
accomplishments proved to the world that women were equal, and lifted America to the center stage of
civil rights.
In conclusion, the book Last Flight, by Amelia Earhart, portrayed a critical moment in American
History; traditional viewpoints were challenged, aviation became ingrained in the American culture,
and women became major players in the American Dream. Amelia Earhart s accomplishments have
jarring similarities to Valentina Tereshkova the first woman in space, orbiting the earth forty eight

The Use Of Primitive Tasers On The United States Of America
Most of us are familiar with the distinctive ticking of a TASER. TASERs, used by police departments
throughout the United States of America, have become a go to tool for apprehending suspects without
fatally wounding them. The first use of primitive TASERs dates back to 1960 and they have come a
long way since. Such as advancements such as upgrading from gunpowder to compressed air, to more
computerised TASERs that automatically cut off and collect crucial user data. With the advancement
of technology, TASERs quickly became a more viable tool for an officer s duty belt.

In 1974 Jack began his work on his idea drawing inspiration from a book called Tom Swift and his

classification severely hindered his sales but he managed to sell to the Los Angeles Police
Department. When efforts to use the device to subdue Rodney King in 1991 failed Patrick Smith
teamed up with Jack to help improve the device. One of the major improvements was replacing the
gunpowder used to propel the prongs with compressed air. Without gunpowder in the device the
classification of firearm was dropped, making selling the device much easier. This caused

Analysis Of George A. Romero s Gory Film Land Of The Dead
George A. Romero s gory film Land of the Dead was released June 2005. Jonathan Levine s Warm
Bodies on the other hand has a scientific fiction undertone, and was released February 2013. Lately
pop culture has had an interest in zombies. Both films chosen have a set contemporary standard of
what a typical zombie is imagined to be. Whether created by supernatural sources or acquired by a
virus, zombies are dead humans that now have the reincarnated mindset of instinctively hunting down
and devouring the living. Those wounded by a zombie, become zombies themselves. Warm Bodies
leans more towards the romance and comedy rather than horror. Whilst remaining true to the ideal
zombie, the envelope is pushed with the unexpected direction that ... Show more content on

This becomes particularly clear when we are introduced to the Bonies, who were once zombies like R
but lost their hope. When they lose their hope they peel away their own skin, the last vestiges of their
humanity, and will be unable to connect again. R even mentions how they will eat anything with a
beating heart, much like himself, but he feels conflicted about it. Bonies are automatically set up as
the antithesis of everything the movie stands for. They are the perfect villains and foils for the corpses
and humans. In Romero s Land of the Dead, zombies have taken over the world and the loose ends of
humanity live within the confines of a city that is bordered on two sides by rivers and a manmade
fence on the third side. Zombies are beginning to evolve and slowly learning how to manipulate
objects and their surroundings. The plots are a bit predictable filled with pure terror and gore opposing
Warm Bodies. While everybody else is merely set on survival, Julie is still hoping for a cure, still
considers it a possibility. Like R, she is looking for something, and wants more. She is unique in her
own crowd of zombies. The very next scene parallels the survivors with the zombies. The group of
survivors set out onto the streets looking for what they need, and it intercuts with scenes of the
zombies doing the same. They are more alike than they are different. In seeing the connected hands,

The Waste Of Waste
Canadians throw out garbage in their everyday lives, but how much Canadians properly dispose of it?
In 2015, roughly 2.3 million tonnes of garbage were thrown away in British Columbia alone, an
average of 497 kilograms per capita. Imagine Canada s waste combined about 25 million tonnes.
Often, household garbage ends up in landfills, but landfills are piling up and reaching maximum
capacity. Unfortunately, it is becoming a struggle to find new areas to dispose of the tonnes of waste.
Additionally, the problem of over capacitated landfills contributes to the environment s health and as a
consequence, make approximately 25% of Canada s greenhouse gas emissions. Improperly discarding
items, like batteries, electronics, and so forth, also contributes to the environment s health, creating the
risk of water and soil contamination. It is up to Canadians and the decisions they make when it comes
to recycling and protecting the environment.
Most household items, such as TV remotes, cell phones, wireless video game controllers, and more,
require batteries to operate. Ultimately, single use or rechargeable batteries run out of juice or corrode,
and become no longer usable. Nonetheless, Canadians are guilty disposing of batteries improperly,
whether in the garbage bin or the blue bin, that later enter landfills. Statistics Canada informs, the
most common method of disposal was taking them to a depot or drop off centre (43%), while some
put them in the garbage (32%) or returned them

Caproic Acid Synthesis Essay
Introduction In this lab, caproic acid was synthesized in a multi step process that involved the
synthesis of three intermediates diethyl n butylmalonate, potassium n butylmalonate, and n butyl
malonic acid respectively. An IR was used to characterize the starting material, n bromobutane, and
the first intermediate, diethyl n butylmalonate; while IR and NMR were used to characterize the final
product, caproic acid.
Reactions, Mechanism and Theory
Caproic acid a.k.a n hexanoic acid is a carboxylic acid derived from hexane which has the general
formula C5H11COOH. It is a colorless oily liquid with a really pungent odor associated with goats.
Caproic acid was synthesized in a multi step process which produced three intermediates ... Show

about fifteen minutes. Next, 35mL of EtOH and 14.5mL of n BuBr were added to the mixture
respectively. The solution was refluxed for 10 minutes using a heating mantle and then cooled on ice.
The above mixture was later poured into 200ml of water and then transferred to a 500mL separatory

  • 5. Promiscuity Promiscuity. What is your reaction to the word? We all know a promiscuous girl. We all look down on her in our own ways. Sometimes she is backstabbed by friends and sometimes she is openly scorned by others. What we do not realise, is she is not the only one, or maybe we do not want to accept it. Research positions us at first place on the podium of promiscuity. Why are we such a promiscuous nation? What risks are we bringing upon ourselves? Are we all nomads in the land of sexuality? Perhaps it is our loose lifestyles, or when growing up we are faced with confusion. A young New Zealander s lifestyle of drinking, partying, and in some cases, drugs is the perfect precedent for a night likely to be regretted, not remembered, or resulting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This may result in a decrease of promiscuity, as the new generations self esteems will be healthier. For young people I believe the confusion they are faced with when growing up may play a part. Maybe the transition into adulthood makes young people think they need to start being sexually active. They may become desperate to feel belonging or companionship. These feelings could be likened to those of Holden Caulfield the main character and protagonist of The Catcher in the Rye by J. D. Salinger. Throughout the novel Holden is on a seesaw between being a child and being an adult. One of the issues that surface for him is that of having sex. At one point in the novel Holden is faced with the opportunity I kept hoping she d be good looking. I didn t care too much, though. I sort of just wanted to get it over with. This shows Holden s feelings towards sex. Under these circumstances sex has no signs of intimacy or fun. It is almost as if sex is an opportunity for him to grow up . Maybe it is simply a rite of passage. It worries me that this may be the reason for some young people being promiscuous. If they think becoming an adult means they must do this they are obviously not mature enough yet and still need time to grow up. The statistics produced by a condom maker labels New Zealand women as the most promiscuous in the world with an average of 20.3 sexual partners. New Zealand men were not at the top like the women but still above average with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Reformation And Counterreformation Of The Renaissance The Reformation and Counterreformation of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries had a decisive impact not only on the architecture of the time, moving from the harmony and balance of the Renaissance to the painted heavens, extreme ornamentation and disturbance captured in the concave and convex form of the Baroque, but was also replicated in the musical forms of the opera and the art of the castrati singers of the period. In the church building, the basilica form was resurrected, not only bringing public and priests into a shared space, but changing the church service to a more participatory experience, in which music (particularly, the organ) played a significant part. In Germany, profound differences developed between the churches and organs of the Protestant north and Catholic south. In Southern Germany and Austria, organs were seen as decorative elements within the Baroque decoration of the church, to the point that the sound qualities of the instrument were sacrificed in order for the organ to fit into a specific architectural space. Here the organ disappears in the overwhelming Baroque decoration and is considered nothing but a theatrical element in the Gesamtkunstwerk (the total work of art). The most famous organ builders and greatest organs were all in northern Europe for example, Arp Schnitger, who built the great organ of St. Jacobi in Hamburg in 1693, where Johann Sebastian Bach applied for the position of organist in 1720 (and was rejected), Zacharias ... • 7. Asoka s Influence On Greece And India Greek, Macedonian, Roman and Chinese Empires absorbed many of the attributes of India by contact through the Silk Road and Spice Trade Routes. These influences are reflected politically, in leadership, culturally, in their ideology, geographically, with the migration of peoples, inter regionally through trade, among the various regions, the spread of religion, artistic, as well as intellectual pursuits, etc. India s influence on the Greece/ Macedonia territory was of great impact religiously. During the Indian emperor Asoka s reign, around the year 260 B.C.E , after his conversion to Buddhism, he was so inspired that he sent out missionaries to many areas, including the territory around Greece. (Spodek 244) Although not as widely spread as it was in China, Buddhism was spread throughout Greece because of these missionaries. The relationship between Greece and India was one of commodity and friendship (Video) When the Greek King Megasthenes traveled to India, he wrote about how the government had such respect for him and foreigners in general. The peace in India could be attributed to Asoka s rule and the policies of peace he enforced. India and Rome had constant trade going on between them, including the popular form of sea trade. When it all comes down to it, Rome mostly wanted spices and silk from India and India mostly wanted gold from Rome. These trades recorded by both the government of India and the government of Rome. Admission costs $4 for adults, $3 for children and seniors, and $2 for college students with ID proof. The museum was a complex rather than one building. The complex was surrounded by a black metal fence. The main building itself maintained its original style. In the late 1920s, the area was build as the Southern Pacific Depot freight line. It ran from Brownsville to Edinburg until 1952. Then, the loading/unloading building began restoration to become a museum. Finally, the Historic Brownsville Museum opened its doors in 1986. The complex contained three buildings: the main culture building, a transportation gallery, and the educational building. The main culture building included artifacts in different categories. The first room was the information desk and gift shop. The two museum guides were unable to present a tour, but they happily offered any assistance if needed. It is those differences that require us, as Barbara Jordon says, to accept people who are different that ourselves. Jordan emphasizes the importance of tolerance and how it helps us develop into better societies and people. During the 1930 s, different races in the United States were being discriminated against their skin tone and placed on separate levels. In more modern times, people were still being criticized for having different ideas and while acting upon them. Even all the way in Iraq, discrimination is presented once again towards Jews and their independent country. Anything contrasting oneself will never be the same as he or she would like, creating a necessity to tolerate. Barbara Jordan s quote helps reveal that tolerance is essential to avoid conflict, to unite with others, and to change for the better. The award winning novel To Kill a Mockingbird, written by Harper Lee, teaches through the eyes of a young girl that problems originated from intolerance. Atticus, a man defending a negro, poses to the jury the idea why the case is unfair. • 17. Role Of Chivalry In Beowulf The role of chivalry is a complicated concept for solitary heroes within Beowulf and Albrecht Dürer s Knight, Death, and the Devil. In Beowulf, the concept of chivalry is explained through the eyes of the hero, Beowulf, which is the idea of performing chivalrous actions in the face of death for glory; however, Beowulf does not realize that his actions will not keep his people safe in the end. In Knight, Death and the Devil, the idea of chivalry is the motivation of the knight on religious grounds to be chivalrous in the face of death. The Knight gives the impression that he understood that his actions would ultimately be meaningless, and he appears resigned to the idea. The argument can be made that chivalry is unsustainable in both texts, given that while it inspires these heroes to pursue these tasks, the result is that they believe that mild sacrifices, such as their own life, must be made to ensure victory; however, these two texts differ with their heroes anticipated outcomes of their sacrifices, which turns out to be for nothing. Despite having different outcomes of operating within a system of chivalry, these two texts similarly critique the outcomes of chivalry as being unsustainable based on the demands it places on heroes to sacrifice themselves. To defend this claim, I will begin by similarly critiquing how chivalry is unsustainable within both texts. I will then express how both texts show the unsustainability results from the demands of sacrifice. I will then ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is also the world s second largest oil consumer behind the US (Chen 2015) and the world s largest net importer of crude oil (Dunn 2014). Its net importer status was driven by steady economic growth, with rapidly rising Chinese petroleum demand outpacing production growth (EIA 2014). China is also the fourth largest oil producing country in the world (Refer to Appendix ___). The growth in the developing nation s economy over the past 3 decades was heavily dependent on its low cost advantage compared to those of other countries. During this period of growth, foreign companies flocked to China to set up production facilities and factories to capitalize on this cost advantage. Raw materials are shipped to China, where factory workers build the final products and export them out to various countries (Wassener 2014). However, recently, china s economy has experienced a significant slowdown due to the shift in growth of the nation to rely more on private enterprise and domestic consumption. This shift in economy reduces its demand for industrial raw materials for manufacturing, which translates to a decrease in demand of oil for use in production plants. A survey of China s industrial heartland identified decreases in key areas of new orders, export orders and output prices (Letts 2015). This leaves less money to pay for discretionary purchases that help fuel economic growth. It is estimated that every $1 increase in the price of gasoline translates into an additional cost of $1,000 a year for most drivers. As a result, low income households began to feel pressures from higher energy bills, which already affected negatively discounted retailers. Long term, the pain at the pump could become more widespread. A survey released in April by the Financial Services Forum, an association of the CEOs of 20 large U.S. financial institutions, reported its members view escalating energy prices as the biggest threat to U.S. economic growth, ahead of rising health care costs and terrorism. The rise in gasoline also caused the fall in auto sales. Cars and light trucks were sold at an average 11.41 annual rate in June, the slowest in a year. (Chandra) Besides household incomes, high fuel cost and energy prices, interest rate is another key factor that determines consumer spending in the economy. Interest rate hikes have already reduced demand for mortgage refinancing and home equity loans, two significant sources of cash that increased consumer spending in recent years. As interest rate rose, consumers most likely found it less desirable and less reasonable to borrow against the equity in their homes. As a result, they tend to put off buying luxury goods for their home, such as TVs, entertainment systems, or other goods. With the above aspects, we as consumers are ... Admiring himself from many angles, he thought it was a shame he couldn t wear makeup in public. That s not true, he mentally corrected himself. He could, like the transvestites that haunted the car parks of hotels favored by rich locals and visiting whites. But like them, he would be a target of some insult, or worse, physical beatings, many of which were meted out by the police, who then took turns with their victims in the back of their vans. It was exasperating that he couldn t appear in public looking as much like the real Elvis Presley as possible. Struggling with his identity, Elvis desires to wear makeup without fearing the retaliation of his community. It is in the implanted whiteness and pockets of Americanism where that freedom is most closely accessible. Yet, the physical reality of the hotels (their literal placement in Lagos) meant that the governing moral principles of Lagos prevented Elvis from being anything but an outcast and a victim if he chose to express himself. The American presence in Lagos managed to be pervasive while simultaneously having no palliative effect on Elvis estrangement within the slum. I enjoyed learning about how we formed as a countries as well as the issues that we faced internally and how we dealt with them. Something that I had never realized before taking this class was how much art was effected by U.S. principals at the time. For example, in World War II with propaganda in newspapers and in cartoons, we depicted the Japanese as inferior, as well as less intelligent. The reason that they did this was so that people were not intimidated by the Japanese and were not afraid to fight them in the Pacific. Before this year I did not realize the profound effect that art had on society and how people viewed issues of the time. I really enjoyed this class because it focused onto these aspects that other history classes did not go into such depth about and opened my mind to different ways to make connections to ideas. However, the War Department was not receptive. In particular, General Winfield Scott could not understand how this idea would change strategy. General Scott believed it would hinder current operations and waste time. Jarrow (2010) alludes to Lincoln s frustration and disappointment when Lowe returned with this information. Lincoln s frustration stemmed from the lack of cognitive flexibility that General Scott was demonstrating. The Thomas N. Barnes Center for Enlisted Education [BCEE] (2017a) highlights that cognitive flexibility involves incorporating different thinking strategies and mental frameworks into your planning, decision making, and day to day activities (pg. 4). Lincoln believed in Lowes idea; therefore, he took it upon himself to go to the War Department and address the matter. A few days later, hot air balloons were scanning the battlefields and relaying messages to ground commanders. Lincoln s trust in this innovative idea and understanding of change altered the dynamics of war; now aerial reconnaissance guaranteed information to the Union Army concerning the battlefield. Ed Thomas was not only the high school football coach but probably the most respected men in the town. It seems as this man would do anything to help out his community. Unfortunately, Thomas was shot by Mark Becker, a former athlete, on June 24, 2009. In fact, Mark s brother was playing for Thomas at the time of the murder. In this piece of writing, Jenkins uses all three elements pathos, ethos, and logos to really pull the audience in and make the reader feel what the town of Parkersburg was going through. Jenkins explains what a great man Thomas was, Thomas delivered sermons when ministers were away. He consoled husbands whose wives were ill. He presented baby boys with FUTURE FALCON certificates. He taught kids to play football, sure, but he also taught driver s ed, making his students learn behind the wheel of a John Deere mower before he gave them keys to a car. He worked every day but Christmas, except this year, when he took a vacation to Hawaii and complained that he could not relax. By adding this into his article, Jenkins is creating a picture of what type of man Ed Thomas was. He is describing his personality in hopes that you may connect Thomas is to someone in your community that is thought highly of. Sometimes an author adds certain events or ideas to help accentuate the plot. In this novel there is a recurring theme of betrayal. The one that seems to be affected by the curse of betrayal the most is the main character, Jane Eyre, herself. Her first encounter with betrayal came about when she was still just a child. And as she grew older and experienced the world new ways unlike before, she could never escape the curse of betrayal. Jane s first encounter with betrayal was when she was still a child and her Uncle Reed brought her along to live with him and his family in Gateshead, after Jane s parents had passed away. Jane s Uncle Reed had promised to raise her as if she were one of his own children. However, this only lasted until Uncle Reed passed away. After Jane s uncle had passed, Jane s aunt and her three children had mistreated her and in some cases physically abused. On one particular day she was minding her own business whilst reading Bewick s History of British Birds, her obnoxious cousin John Reed was looking for Jane. Once he finds her, he treats her as if she was inferior to him, he wants his cousin to refer to him as Master Reed. All this was done during a time and place where people lossed their jobs, and the economy was bad.
