The Symbols Of The Grimm Brothers
Fairy tales weren t always fairy tales. Happy endings weren t always the goal. It didn t use to be in
a land far away. Once upon a time didn t exist.
The Grimm brothers wrote stories as gory and grim as their name suggests. Their tales were darkly
comical, brusque and tragic. They were stories that were the truth for the people.
It all began, 200 years ago when this seemingly ordinary pair of brothers and German librarians put
together one of the most influential work of folklore in Germany, Europe and now the world.
Wilhelm Carl and Jacob Ludwig Grimm, the brother s interest in literature was fostered when they
were at the University of Marburg in the early 1800 s was when they were encouraged to collect
popular German folklore stories and other material by their law professor, Friedrich Carl von
Savigny. Savigny was an important figure in the nationalist Romantic Movement that called for
Germany to be culturally and politically united.
Savigny was a form of inspiration to the brothers and a mentor to them. The brother s used
metaphors in their writing that they believed were saving authentic German popular culture, an
endangered species at that time. The metaphors used by them were messianic and ecological. The
preface of the first edition of the book begins with, We find it well, if storm or other misfortune,

Unfortunately, Clemens lost the manuscript given to him by Jacob and Wilhelm, who in the
meanwhile had continued with their quest of collecting these stories. Upon hearing that the book
would not be published, the Brothers under the advice of Achim von Arnim, another romantic
author, published their collection of eighty six stories in the year

Atlantic Hurricane Case Study
In the late summer of 2004 Florida was ravished by 4 consecutive hurricanes within the span of 44
days. From August 13 until early October, Florida was struck by Hurricanes Charley, Hurricane
Frances, Hurricane Ivan, and Hurricane Jeanne whom all ranged winds of 90mph to 160mph. These
storms left behind costly environmental, structural and social damage. Ripping the roofs off many
homes while dismantling many other homes, those hurricanes changed the way the State of Florida
and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) viewed Atlantic hurricane season.
Evacuating over 8 million residents and business owners and incurring over $35 billion in disaster
recovery funds, government officials began to seek out different approaches to creating... Show

This is not what the source says. This trend of unpredictability some meteorologist would say began
back in 1992 with Hurricane Andrew. This did not come from McCarty. Hurricane Andrew, a
category 5 hurricane enlightened Florida residents, government officials and meteorologist of the
pure potential hurricanes offer. The hurricane ripped through Florida with winds up to 160 mph and
caused 26.5 billion in damage alone. Andrew even though 12 years prior to the Hurricane season of
2004 exhibited arbitrary pathways and sudden increases in energy. Some meteorologists took note
of the unpredictable nature of Atlantic hurricanes and were able to rationalize major hurricane
occur on cycles. These cycles were whether still unpredictable than desired and should have created
a sense of urgency towards preparing Florida for another disastrous hurricane season. Initially when
first signs of Hurricane Charley first surfaced many media representatives and meteorologists
predicted the hurricane to not make landfall in Florida. The hurricane was projected to stay within
the Atlantic Ocean and only cause minor storms and constant rain on the Eastern Seaboard. Friday,
August 12, Hurricane Charley set his eyes on the coast of Florida. Although the media broadcasted
up to date information concerning the hurricane s movement and growth, residents considered the
storm not to be a threat based on weather predictions. Once Charley dismayed after leaving behind
costly damages, the media begin to find different reasoning for the sporadic path change that
Charley had shown. Most reports wanted to contribute weather patterns to ocean water warming
called El Nino The source does not mention anything about El Nino. Whether the assumptions were
correct or not, it had become noticeable to the public that the media was having trouble providing
accurate weather predictions.

The Negative Effects Of Technology And Its Effects On The...
With all of the technological advances that have been made over the last decade, it is amazing that
a person ever leaves their home. While technology allegedly makes our lives better, in reality,
technology only makes our lives more difficult. In doing so it changes the way things used to be
done, it causes a huge lack of communication and lastly, technologyis great, until it breaks.
Technology has changed the way that the world does many things. Looking back one of the
things that I miss the most was getting birthday calls or cards. Now all my birthday wishes
come on a Facebook wall. These wishes come from all over the world but most of them are from
people I never talk to. How do they remember my birthday? Is it because I am important to them.
Nope! It is because Facebook has an app that tells them it is my birthday and they feel obligated to
wish me a happy birthday because we are friends on Facebook. While it makes me feel special to
know that 683 people wished me happy birthday on my special day. How many of them would
know who I was if I ran into them at the store? Not many of them would and while it might make
us feel good for the moment, it is not reality. It is technology. It has even changed how we get
mail. It used to be that we would have to wait days for a letter to come. Now we have email and
can receive a letter from anywhere in the world in a matter of seconds. While this is a wonderful
thing it still does not replace the feeling one gets when they go to the

Social Issues In Pride And Prejudice
Jane Austen s well known novel, Pride and Prejudice, discussed multiple social themes in the
19th century. Austen mainly criticized marriage during her era, when she says that, it is a truth
universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a
wife (Austen 3). As she explains that it was valuable to women since it provided them with
security and a social title. The author explored the diverse motives behind matrimony in her time
period by using a humorous and romantic plot to discuss the social issues. For instance, Charlotte
Lucas s unreasonable marriage to Mr. Collins is a vital example of how women needed to secure a
future and attain social status. To conclude, Lydia Bennet s meaningless marriage to George
Wickham shows that entering the marriage estate could have also been for mainly financial
purposes. Contrastingly, Jane Bennet, the heroine s older sister, marries Charles Bingley for love,
security, and a social ranking. On the other hand, Elizabeth Bennet marries Fitzwilliam Darcyafter
months of misunderstandings and romantic drama for none other than true love. Thus, Austen uses
her leading characters marriages in Pride and Prejudiceto exhibit the various attitudes and reasons
for marrying in the 19th century. (Lane 2015) As Charlotte Lucas nears her thirties, she begins...

faced some obstacles before they finally got married. The couple was driven away from each other

Nutrient Timing
Nutrient timing is an important aspect for the proper growth and help of the human body. Over the
years, the idea of nutrient timing has added a significant impact to the health of the body, especially
exercise training. Think of it this way: before nutrient timing there was what you ate and what you
did (exercise). Adding nutrient timing adds in the aspect of time. Similar to the third wall in film,
nutritiontiming adds a new dimension. Much focus has been put on simply what to eat, but now
another emphasis should be put on when to eat. The idea of nutrient timing is to help benefit the
physical activity that is being done by professional and recreational exercise seekers. It is meant to
help carry the right amount of nutrients (protein,

Buying Renting Your Vacant Home
To Rent or Sell Your Vacant Home
Have you ever thought whether it would be better to rent or sell a vacant home that you own?
Maybe you already have someone renting the home, or you have been considering renting it out to
tenants, but would that really be the better choice? Deciding whether or not to sell or rent your
vacant home is an incredibly big decision that requires a lot of thought. Therefore, you should
always look at the pros and cons of selling or renting your vacant home.
The Main Reason to Sell Your Home

vacant home as soon as you can.
By going with a real estate agent to sell your vacant home, the process will go a lot more
smoothly when compared to doing it by yourself, especially if you need to sell it within a short
period of time. They will help you and tell you what to do when it comes to preparing the home,
like referring you to a plumber or an electrician to have them come in and do a walk through to
ensure everything is in order.
They will also give you advice when it comes to whether or not you should stage the home, or just
leave it empty of furniture, if you currently do not have any in there. Your real estate agent will also
guide you through the selling price, meeting with potential buyers, going over the negotiation
process, and finalizing the sale. However, if you would like them to handle the meeting with
buyers, negotiations, and closing the deal, you can sit out of these parts completely.
Although, if you are still unsure whether or not you want to sell or rent your vacant home, or you
re willing to take the chance in a neighborhood that is losing some of it s value, then the pros and
cons below will help you to decide on your final decision.

The Philosophy Of Education Is Its Differing Aims
Around 2,300 years ago, Aristotle raised many issues regarding the opposing perspectives about the
practice of education. He affirmed that there is no universal accord about whether education should
be directed more towards intellectual objectives or towards the character of the individual. He also
proposed that there is doubt about whether educationshould be aimed at notion valuable for
everyday life or at notions approving to virtues. As a matter of fact, modern day educators are still
deliberating the concerns Aristotle raised. Ultimately, the most primitive dilemma the philosophyof
education is its differing aims. Philosophers of education question, what are the proper aims and
leading principles of education? What is the appropriate criterion for assessing academic attempts,
educational institutions, procedures, and outcomes? In fact, diverse proposals to resolving these
significant affairs have given rise to contrasting schools of thought in the philosophy of education.
This exploratory paper will analyze and inquire three schools of thought: Essentialism, Critical
Theoryand Pragmatism. Each of these schools of thought considers their principles the best. The
paper will conclude with my viewpoint as to where I situate my philosophy of education among
these three schools of thought.
The term Essentialism as a scholarly philosophy was formerly disseminated in the 1930s by the
American educator William Chandler Bagley (Gutek, 2004, p. 264). This approach seeks to

David and Goliath World Trade Organization Case Study
Jay Cohen and two friends established an online gaming site on the islands of Antigua and Barbuda;
they named the organization World Sports Exchange (WSE). Mr. Cohen was prosecuted by the
U.S. government; his conviction resulted in a battle between the U.S. and the two small Caribbean
islands of Barbuda and Antigua. The epic battle of David and Goliath was mediated by the World
Trade Organization (WTO) and raised a lot of interesting questions about international trade and

In regards to online gaming, horse racing is a legal sporting event where betting is allowed to
take place online and across state lines. That fact alone makes the U.S. government s argument of
morality null and void. There is no difference between gambling on a horse race and betting on a
sporting event. Legislation that attempts to control individual choice is an infringement on civil
liberties and has not proven successful in the past, particularly with prohibition on gambling and
alcohol. Mr. Cohen lost a significant amount of his life because he was convicted on a ridiculous
charge. Where is the morality in that? Gambling continues to gain in popularity and many states are
embracing the industry in order to boost tourism, increase revenue, and create jobs. This trend will
probably continue as people begin to realize that the government should not decide whether or not a
person can gamble. This is a prime example of too much government; the country has more pressing
issues to deal with and should focus on problems that truly affect the American people.
Technological Environment Technology is a huge factor in this case because all WSE s
transactions where conducted online, telephonic, or via wire transfer. The online forum is
specifically the issue that the U.S. government had with WSE s profits generated from U.S.
consumers. The country s position was that Mr. Cohen was in violation of the Wire

discovering individuality Essay
A journey is something that must be done in everyone s life. The journey starts when the person
is born and ends when they die. People are all searching for their own things. Some search for
things like: money, power, fame, knowledge, peace, understanding, and a sense of who they are.
Some people do just for the thrillof adventure. Siddhartha wants to find his individual place in
society through personal experienceand follow no one else s ideas but his own.
Siddhartha s journey takes him through different worlds which are represented geographically
through the three different parts of the story. In the first part of the book he travels through the

With this realization he leaves the city without letting anyone know.
The final leg of Siddhartha a journey leads him back to the river he crossed so many years ago.
Here he nearly commits suicide but is saved by the sacred word quot;om quot;. After a chance
meeting with Govinda he looks into the river smiling and sees the river smiling back at him.
When he sees this he decides to stay by the river and asks the ferryman to become his assistant.
Now Siddhartha will learn what it means to travel between the world of the intellect and the world
of the senses, and listen while he does it (Understanding Hermann Hesse 104). The first thing
Siddhartha learns from the river is that there is no such thing as time, and this metaphor is central
to the theology that Hesse follows. It expresses all of being as an eternal present: quot;Nothing was,
nothing will be, everything is, everything has being and presence quot; (Understanding Hermann
Hesse 104).
Siddhartha s journey is almost complete, but he still has one more thing to experience. That thing is
love. Siddhartha gains this experience when Kamala, on a journey to see the Buddha before he dies,
is poisoned by a snake and dies. This leaves young Siddhartha in the hands of Siddhartha and
Vasudeva. Vasudeva warns Siddhartha not to protect his son, because protection only delays the
inevitable and makes the ultimate confrontation with life s unpleasantness, pain,

Essay about The Voice of the Sea in The Awakening
The Voice of the Sea in The Awakening
Many different symbols were utilized in Kate Chopin s The Awakening to illustrate the underlying
themes and internal conflict of the characters. One constant and re emerging symbol is the sea.
The voice of the sea is seductive, never ceasing, whispering, clamoring, murmuring, inviting the
soul to wander for a spell in abysses of solitude; to lose itself in mazes of inward contemplation.
The voice of the sea speaks to the soul. The touch of the sea is sensuous, enfolding the body in its
soft, close embrace (Chopin 25).

This rebirth takes her back to a time of innocence and curiosity that allows her to explore life
through new eyes. Edna is filled with swelling emotions and reveals Sometimes I feel this summer
as if I were walking through the green meadow again. Idly, aimlessly, unthinking, and unguided
(Chopin 30). Edna s recollection of this event allows her to more clearly recognize her internal
turmoil.
The link between Edna s awakening and the ocean becomes even clearer when after several
attempts she finally learns to swim. The first time she ventures out into the ocean alone is the
first step toward her independence. She panics when she realizes how far she has gone alone
and fears drowning. This incident represents Edna gaining control over her body and becoming
more aware of her full potential. The ocean helps her recognize that her body is her own and she
awakens to her physical, mental, and emotional capabilities. But that night she was like the little
tottering, stumbling, clutching child, who of a sudden realizes its powers, and walks for the first
time alone, boldly and with overconfidence. (Chopin 47). Edna s sudden terror in the middle of
the ocean signifies that she may not be able to venture out as far as she wants to and may have to
turn back. She wanted to swim far out, where no woman had swum before...A quick

New Testament Research Paper
What is New Testament?
The New Testament is a collection of books which contains the writings concerning the significant
events in the life of Jesus of Nazareth. These books appeared after the physical death of Jesus
Christ. In this regard, Jesus had left no records concerning him, and all that is written about him
depends wholly on what other people have written about him. The first four books of the New
Testament are part of the several biographies of Jesus which were written by the end of the first
century of the era of Christianity. Then before any of these biographies have been drafted, there
were Christian communities which were being instructed through epistles on how to live like Jesus
and how to solve their problem like Christians. A good number of these letters were written by a
man called Paul. After Paul death, some other new leaders of the Christian movement continued to
write letters to the churches to encourage and strengthen them. As Christians grew in number
persecution arose, and some letters have been drafted to support them and also to counter the false
doctrines. These letters are part of the New Testament. The twenty seven books of the New
Testament were selected from the list of writings in that period (Bruce, 1988)

one must study the New Testament. This knowledge is highly precious that according to Paul he

Argument On Santa Clauses
Santa Claus was well known as a kind man who had a long white bread, wore big red white
clothes and carried children s gifts with his flying reindeers as a vehicle. Christians all around
the world have had Santa traditions since the 1820 s, which is lying children to believe in Santa,
hang a sock on the window, behave nicely and go to bed early so that Santa can come and give
them presents (Sleepypanda 2013). Until December 2016, psychologists claimed that Santa myth
could destroy children s trust to parents. All children will eventually find out they ve been
consistently lied to for years, and this might make them wonder what other lies they ve been told,
(Boyle McKay 2016)
Based on my experience, when I was in elementary school, I remember the time that my English
teacher asked us to write postcard, she said that she would send the most beautiful postcard in the
class to Santa Clause, so we put high effort to create an outstanding postcard. They also asked us to
behave nicely for all day because Santa would come to the room and gave good children a present.
In that time, the reason I believed what they lied because I thought that teacher always teach student

A Central Of Venous Catheter
A central venous catheter is known as a central line or a CVC. A CVC is a thin flexible catheter
that is inserted into a large vein near the heart in either the arm or the chest. (Web MD, 2016) This
central line is used to provide medication, fluids, nutrients, or blood products over a long period of
time. This is generally used for patients who have chemotherapy, frequent blooddraws, need
additional nutritional support, or have kidney failure. (ATS, 2015) There are several
considerations to keep in mind when a CVC is being administered such as understanding why a
CVC is being placed, safety guidelines, teaching considerations, and ways to care for the CVC.
Reasons for needing a CVC
There are several reasons why a CVC may be placed depending on each patient s condition. It is
important for each patient to understand the reason for having a central line inserted; some reasons
may include: I.V. medications for a long period of time, large amounts of fluid, several blood
draws, additional nutrition, or kidney failure. When administering medication over a long period of
time it can be irritating to the vein so a central line is placed so that it is easily tolerated; especially
for chemotherapy medications. When administering fluids through a larger vein it is less irritating
to the vein and it is easier to manage fluid intake. Patients can often have several blood draws daily
in order to run tests to make sure that the treatment and body function is maintaining; so it is ideal

The Egyptians lives were normally all based on the Nile River, they depended very much so on it.
Once it would flood this meant they were wealthy with the land again. The Egyptians would grow
their own crops, if they could not grow a certain crop that they wanted they would go to the villages
and trade what they had grown with someone for what crop they wanted. Ancient Egypt

look life like once again. First they would wash the dead body with wine then once finished wash
the wine off with water from the Nile, because that was their only water source at the time. Then
they would remove the insides by cutting the body on its left side. They would then remove the
intestines, lungs, stomach, and liver then wrap each individually with natron which would dry
each piece up, once finished they would go through the nose with a stick and break the brain

Argument Against Military Intervention For Humanitarian...
ARGUMENT AGAINST MILITARY INTERVENTION FOR HUMANITARIAN RELIEF An
understanding of where the Syrian healthcare system stood before the civil war, the toll of the
fighting and intentional targeting of medical personnel/infrastructure, ongoing humanitarian efforts,
and America s actions to date enable an informed evaluation of whether or not to use American
militaryforces in a humanitarian assistance role in Syria. This context allows for an examination of
the limitations of humanitarian aid, the advantages/disadvantages of plausible courses of action
involving the military and the threat of mission creep. Before evaluating the merits of available
courses of action the military can take to address Syria s medical crisis, it is important to identify
and understand the limitations of humanitarian assistance in general. Taylor Seybolt, Associate
Professor in International Affairs at the University of Pittsburgh an expert on military and
humanitarian intervention, cites the following inherent limitations of humanitarian intervention: it
does not provide a lasting solution to conflict; it has the potential to prolong wars; it can foster
economic dependence; and it inhibits strong state development.19 When these limitations are
considered in regard to Syria, military intervention for the sole purpose of providing medical
humanitarian support does not make sense. Providing medical aid in isolation to the Syrian people
would address an effect of the civil war rather than

Before Harry Potter was a best selling novel, with a multimillion dollar business, a theme park,
and several movies to its name, The Boy Who Lived was no more than an a couple of sentences,
scribbled between the pages of a notebook.
Long before her rise to fame, J.K. Rowling, author of history s best selling fantasy series, spent
several years in as a single mother fighting her way out of poverty. Within the span of five years,
Rowling went from relative poverty, to the world s first, and only, billionaire who made her
fortune from selling books. Hers is the literal rags to riches story.
However, her tragic past hasn t hindered Rowling in the slightest. In addition to publishing seven
books in the Harry Potter series, two crime novels, and several tie ins that expand the magical
world of Harry Potter, Rowling has become an active philanthropist.
It may seem odd, or even strange, for Healthy Aging to use a fantasy author as the cover for our

The Confederate Flag
On January 1992 the NAACP put in affect a boycott on South Carolina to pressure the state to
remove the Confederate flag off of its Statehouse in Columbia. The boycott is what initially brought
life to this issue. The NAACP s removal request is based on the fact that they, the antiflag groups,
claim that the meaning of the Confederate flag is one of hate and discrimination. On the other
hand, there are other groups that believe differently whom are called the pro flag groups. They

This viewpoint can be found in Eric Foner s article Rebel Yell which is published in a well
known liberal magazine The Nation. Foner who is a historian believes that the main cause of
the Civil War was the South s opposition to freeing slaves. He states that slavery was the big
reason why the Civil War was started and that all of the other issues stemmed off of it. This view
is shared among the anti flag supporters as seen in this quotation from another anti flag article.
Try as we may to pretend that slavery wasn t a big issue as any other, the truth is, had the South
been agreeable to the idea of ending slavery, then the civil war may very well have never
happened (Amy par. 2). Foner then uses logos by explaining how the Declaration of the
Immediate Causes of Secession shows evidence of this in its causes of secession. To understand
what the flag now flying in Columbia represents, one need only read the Declaration of
Immediate Causes of Secession, adopted by South Carolina secession convention in December
1860 (Foner par. 2). Foner gives some examples of the declaration being about slavery by quoting
some things it stated, and one quotation out of the Declaration of Immediate Causes of Secession
is about Lincoln being a man whose opinions and purposes are hostile to slavery (Foner par. 2).

However, having a high school diploma isn t enough. Without a collegedegree, many doors will

While the high costs of college are of great concern to me, I believe the future benefits will

Essay On Rna Sequencing
Introduction:
Humans have always been curious to find answers to various things of life. This curiosity and
have been a driving force for discovery. Over the years our tools have evolved from the basic light
microscope to high throughput DNA sequencers along with our understanding of the world around
us.
RNA sequencing is inspiring scientists to push the limits of current research methods in
understanding how the transcriptome shapes biology and much more. RNA sequencing is
becoming one of the most significant tools in the world of modern science.
RNA sequencing (RNA Seq) is revolutionizing transcriptome studies. It s a highly reliable tool for
measuring gene expression across the transcriptome. Also, it s providing deep insight previously ...

This method doesn t require predesigned probes, the data sets have no bias(, allowing for
hypothesis free experimental design2,3.
This type of NGS analysis is a powerful tool for transcript and variant discovery which otherwise
wouldn t possible using traditional microarray based methods.
Wider Dynamic Range and Higher Sensitivity
Microarray measure continuous probe intensities. But RNA Seq quantifies individual sequence
reads aligned to a reference sequence which produces discreet (digital) read counts2. Also, by
increasing or decreasing the number of sequencing reads (coverage level or coverage depth),
researchers can fine tune the sensitivity of an experiment to accommodate different study
objectives. The digital nature of this process and the ability to control coverage levels supports an
extremely broad dynamic range, with absolute rather than relative expression values2 4.
Assuming 10 50 million mapped reads, the dynamic range of RNA Seq spans 5 orders of
magnitude ( 105) and is typically several orders of magnitude higher than most array technologies
(103)2,5. As a result, RNA Seq has been shown to detect a higher percentage of differentially
expressed genes compared to expression arrays, especially genes with low abundance5,6.

Saving Private Ryan History
The American uniforms in Saving Private Ryan are also exceedingly accurate to the World War
Two time period. Scene 11 (Dog Tags) has the best depiction of American uniforms. This scene
starts with the main characters sitting at a crate, digging through dog tags to find Ryan s name.
They then take notice of the Airborne Division passing by and stop digging through the tags.
Because of this, they start asking the passing Division if they know Ryan. One of the passing
men does know Ryan and he tells them where he should be. This ends the scene. In this scene
you can clearly see both regular Marine uniforms and Airborne uniforms. In the book Army
Uniforms of World War 2 by Andrew Mollo, he says this about the Airborne uniforms,
Paratroopers wore a special combat dress consisting of steel helmet with forked chin strap and
rubber chin cup, combat jacket with fly front and large diagonal patch breast and side pockets, and
trousers with a large patch pocket on the outside thigh. They also received high lace up brown
leather ankle boots with rubber soles with later became standard army issue. The movie really
nailed these uniforms. They had every thing that should be included in a paratroopers uniforms.

Changes Between 1775 And 1990 Dbq
The American Founding lasted for 25 years from 1775 1800. During that time the United States
declared and won its independence, a gradual revolution in the economic, political, and social
landscape was begun that was not completed by 1800. There was a nominal change made
politically in America between the years 1775 and 1800. In 1791, the Bill of Rights was ratified.
These 12 amendments were designed to protect the basic rights of U.S. citizens, ensuring the

The Black Walnut Tree Figurative Language
In The Roots
There is a conflict between practicality and sentimentality conveyed through the use of both literal
and figurative language by poet Mary Oliver in The Black Walnut Tree. There is an alternation
from a debate between mother and daughter rationalizing reasons of selling the black walnut tree
that sits in the family s backyard in order to pay off their mortgage, to the symbolic viewing and
characterization of the tree as a reflection of the family s history and what value it holds to further
generations. Despite the whip crack of the mortgage experienced every month, cutting down the
black walnut tree would be a heinous deception on the family s heritage.
The literal language used in the beginning of the free verse does not imply the tree having any
symbolic meaning to the speaker and her mother. It is casually said My mother and I debate, we
could sell the black walnut tree...[to] pay off the mortgage which defines that in these lines the tree
has not yet been introduced with its symbolic purpose. Initially, the tree is viewed as a property
they are willing to sell. They rationalize the idea by noting that there are roots in the ... Show more

The first task was to create a sequential film. The idea of this incredibly daunting as I had next to
no experience with filming or editing. After practicing with the filming and editing using cameras

Beer Classification Paper
The history of beer dates back hundreds of years prior to written history. Besides water and tea,
beer is one of the most frequently consumed beverages in the world. Contrary to popular belief, that
all beers are typically the same, there are many variances in color, flavor, strength, production
method, ingredients and origin. Beercan be divided into 2 broad sub categories: aleand lager. Ales
were the first type of beer ever created before brewers knew the role yeast played during the beer
making process. Ale yeasts flocculate at the top of the fermentation tank and are brewed from
malted barley using a warm fermentation. The yeast ferments the beer quickly, which gives it a full
bodied and fruity taste. They also contain hops, which... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Something else that adds to the taste of a beer, are additional ingredients. The last major difference
between ales and lagers are there supplementary ingredients. Ales typically have more of a malty
taste, due to an elevated amount of hops, malts, and roasted malts that are added during production.
Ale brewers, typically have more leeway with how they produce their beer, and tend to add a
several different ingredients during brewing, like the ones mentioned above. These extra
ingredients are referred to as, adjuncts. Brewers of lagers only have a few, simple ingredients:
malted grain, hops, yeast, and water. The production method of lagers is somewhat due to the
stringent Reinheitsgebot Law, also known as the German beer purity law . This law prohibits
any adjuncts during the brewing process of lagers, only permitting water, barely, and hops as
ingredients. Tea and water maybe two of the most consumed beverages in the world, but beer is
right behind in a close third. Beer is gradually becoming more and more popular. This is evident
through the new trends of beer companies that have begun to accommodate for the new low calorie
beer trend. Corona, Heineken, and Anheuser Busch have led the pack by producing Corona Lite ,
Heineken Lite , and Budweiser Select . With more and more companies attending to these trends,
beer has broadened their target market. Overall, these companies are innovating the deeply historic

Space Shuttle Challenger Failure Essay
Cause(s) of Accident
The reason space shuttle Challenger went down was caused by a failure in the joint between the
two lower segments of the right rocket motor. The specific failure was the destruction of the seals
that are intended to prevent hot gases from leaking through the joint during the burn of the rocket
motor. Unfortunately, a combustion gas leak through the right Solid Rocket Motor aft field joint
initiated shortly after ignition eventually weakened and penetrated the external tank starting the
breakup and loss of the Challenger. The evidence assembled by the Commission indicates that no
other element of the Space Shuttle system contributed to this failure. The failure was due to a
faulty design sensitive to a number of factors. ( CHALLENGER EXPLOSION, n.d.)
Structural and Mechanical Factors
There was a fundamental design flaw in the joint that engineers had grown accustomed to and
had learned to live with. Although the boosters were not designed to work this way, it was not
uncommon for the booster casing to balloon under the stress of ignition, causing the metal parts
of the casing to bend away from each other, creating gaps through which hot gases could leak. In
prior flights, the primary O ring would shift out of its groove and form a seal. This process is called

Group Counseling Reflection
I learned two significant things about group counseling in this course. The first thing that I learned
is the importance of setting up a treatment plan. The intention is to follow the client from their
entrance into the program until the client is discharged. In this process the clients problems are
identified through various assessments and as each problem is addressed, it is checked off of the
list. Once all of the problems are checked off of the list, the client is considered as having
completed the plan. This plan is especially important because it evokes thoughtful conversation
between the client and the counselor and is the best method to gain information from the client
regarding the help they want to receive. The second most significant thing that I learned about
group counseling is how to design a group from start to finish. From pre group design, planning
the goals of the group and determining the members to setting up the environment and structuring
the sessions, each step adds its own important components to designing group counseling. As a
potential group leader I have learned a few things about myself in terms of my interactions with
the clients. I am patient with my clients because I understand that it takes time for clients to build
trust in the counselor and because it also takes time for a client to accept their situation allowing
them to move toward positive change. I am a good listener because I realize that as a counselor, I
have to allow my clients the

He was strong enough to tell her that he could not do it, basing his decision on his beliefs.
Eventually, he gives up and decided to go ahead with the decision yet he knows that it is wrong.
Though it was a difficult decision for him to make, it is still not the right one. At one point,
Frankie talks to Father Horvak and expresses his conflicted feelings. Father Horvak advises
Frankie to leave Maggie with God, since it is wrong to kill a human being even under the
circumstances. In his perspective, Frankie justifies the act by saying that it is wrong for him to
let her suffer any longer. He makes an individual decision that goes against his faith and kills
Maggie, just to end her suffering. It might have seemed like a good decision at the time since it
would end Maggie s suffering, but he still killed her, which is wrong. The decision that Frankie
made had a huge impact on his relationship with God, self and others. First, after helping Maggie
die, Frankie felt a disconnection from God. His relationship with God would never be the same
again, since he had knowingly committed sin. Secondly, Frankie s relationship with himself

When Irene Character Analysis
I believe that Claire was pushed out of the window at the end of the novel. This belief stems from
the buildup of resentment that Irene had felt toward Claire during the entirety of the story, but I
thought that in the final section this resentment began to go from simply not agreeing each other to
Irene feeling threatened by Claire.
Irene and Brian have what seems to be a marriage held together by children and when Irene begins
to suspect Claire is using her charms to win over Brian, Irene immediately starts to fear Brian
leaving her for Claire. This would rip apart the stability that Irene wants so desperately in her life
and she cannot allow that. We have watched Irene attempt to manipulate people throughout the
story, especially with Brian as exemplified by her not allowing Brian to leave his job for the sake of
the family. When Irene starts to imagine Claire taking away Brian, I think that it is not a stretch to
think that Irene would do whatever it takes to make sure that the situation could not possibly come
up.

serve as proof for Irene pushing Claire out of the window. Irene describes Claire ... Show more

breaking a cup and pushing a person are two separate actions with the later being harder to carry

Failure Of Failure After Failure
As my first semester of college is coming to an end, I would like to reflect on my experience here
within the Honors 120 and 121 class on Failure and the Question Wheel. I chose this class on
failure because I have always held myself to such high standards that I hoped to be able to find a
way to accept failure in some instances. Within our first week in class, we made claims about
failure. My favorite claim was that every failure is in some way a success. Although this claim was
not very debatable and incredibly generic, I was able to really let my mind explore what it was
trying to say. Throughout the semester I experienced failure after failure, but that allowed me to
see that success can still be achieved within failures. One major failure I experienced throughout
the entire semester was my failure to speak up in class. In the beginning of the school year I
failed to speak up mainly because I was shy and being around all new people whom I did not know
made me feel very anxious. I thought that my anxietyabout this class would lessen over time as I
got to know my fellow classmates. However, as time went on I realized that while a majority of
my classmates share these anxious feelings with me, the other students that had been speaking up
are very strong willed and can be judgmental at times. I then realized that I was scared to speak

my reaction to it. I need to do a better job of finding the balance between respecting their
frustration and encouraging them to see the bigger picture, thusly gaining their buy in of the

understandable the crew becomes jaded, I cannot fuel their frustration by continuing to give it
credence. Instead, I need to reinforce the overall common vision of how these visits are of

The Topic Of Fate Of Ancient Greece During The Golden Age
The Topic of Fate in Ancient Greece During the Golden Age
The Golden Age of Athens started with the final defeat of Persia in 479 B.C. and the formation
of the Delian League in 478 B.C. With the defeat of Persia came a period of prosperity for
Athens, a time of great political advancements and many reforms to daily life. Around 461 B.C., a
former general named Perikles became the dominant politician of Athens. During his reign (461 429
B.C.) he made Athens a strong and imperialistic city state, one that forced their allies to remain in
the Delian League. Sparta, who had left the league shortly after the defeat of the Persians, had
created their own league, the Peloponnesian League. The two leagues signed the Thirty Years
Treaty, which stated that the two leagues may not fight for thirty years. Athens went against the
treaty by helping a city state who was in the other league. Athens and Sparta declare war against
one another shortly after. Homer s Illiad and Sophocles Oedipus Tyrannos had an effect on the
citizens of Athens in the respect of fate. In both classics, fate is considered unavoidable and
ultimately inevitable. The topic of fate during this time is an important topic to Athenians because
they fear that a battle against the Peloponnesian League is inevitable, just like Achilles fate to die in
Troy, or Oedipus fate to kill his father and marry his mother. In the Athenian perspective, fate is
written in stone, and what is fated will happen.

Go Ask Alice By An Anonymous Teenage Girl
The novel Go Ask Alice, written by an anonymous teenage girl, consists of her thoughts, musings,
and feelings throughout her ever worsening battle with drugs. Before the life altering party that
introduced her to this life of addiction, Alice was a typical teenage girl who faced the fears and
unknown of moving to a new town and school, feelings of nonacceptance from her friends and
peers, body issues, and pressure from her parents. The argument can be made that one of the many
roots of Alice s worsening habit is mainly her relationship with her motherand father; however, once
Alice has left her familyin search of her next high and life on her own, she began to long for them
once again. Although she ran away from her life and family twice, each time Alice was accepted
home with loving, caring arms. So while her parents may have played a role in her delving into
the life of drugs to escape her woes, they could also be considered one of her potentially saving
graces toward the end of the novel. However, no matter the amount of effort Alice or her family
put forth into her recovery, the drugs ultimately won the battle for Alice s life. At the beginning of
the novel, before Alice attended the fateful party that changed her world forever, she did not fully
see her parents affection toward her; she was caught up in her teenage world of guys and
heartbreak, leading her to misinterpret how her parents only had her best interests in mind. For
example, on September 17 she

Why Wonderland Could Be Seen As A Dream
Why Wonderland could be seen as a dream? Dreams just like Wonderland are illogical. Time also
flows differently than it would in reality and there is no need to fear any life threating
circumstances but we will be fine after we wake up. Wonderland seems to have a very twisted
logic, one that could be compared to a dreams where things seem to make sense at the time but in
reality could not be plausible. There are many example of twisted logic, the most obvious would
be how all the animals can talk, and the Cheshire Cat in particular can disappear and reappear at
whim. Another instance is the game of croquet. A real game of croquet is highly structured and
each player waits their turn. However, in Wonderland the game of croquet is chaotic

The Influence Of The Tokugawa Period In Japan
The Tokugawa period in Japan, otherwise known as the Edo period (1603 1867) was the final era
of traditional Japan (Britannica School 2015). Ieyasu Tokugawa united Japan, preventing Japan
from going into chaos. The Meiji Restoration period (1868 1912) consisted the return of full
emperor control and the birth of major political, economic and social change. During the Tokugawa
period Japan went through large economical change through the harvesting of agriculture to the
production of various items, all achieved through peace. From 1603 1867 Japan was fulfilled with
a 250 year war free country and isolation, only prior before the country was scattered into many
different rulers. United into one ruler, Tokugawa Ieyasu, during the Tokugawa period

Common Information Security Threats
As company s dependence on computers and the internet increase, there are more and more
threats that they face from hackers and anarchist alike. For ever solution that companies come up
with to defend themselves against cyber attacks, those who wish to do harm find other means to
attack, it is a constant cat and mouse struggle. If 2011 has been any indication, it is clear that
everyone is vulnerable to cyber attacks. There was wave after wave of hacking, malware, and
spear phishing attacks that succeeded in exploiting many well known businesses, such as RSA and
Sony, which lead to the exposure of millions of records. (Schwartz, 2012) The ... Show more

But as the use of these devices increase in the workplace, so does the threat of compromising
information through malware. Just as recently, the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3), a
government task force that includes the FBI, issued a mobile malware warning stating: The IC3
has been made aware of various malware attacking Android operating systems for mobile devices,
the warning said. Some of the latest known versions of this type of malware are Loozfon and
FinFisher. (Kerr, 2012)
Most of the malware that infects mobile devices are delivered through bogus e mail messages that
are sent to the user. Once the link is clicked, the malware is then installed and can either steal
information from the user, or some can even take over components of the Smartphone itself.
Various securityreports state that mobile malware has been on the rise over the past year and that
it has been multiplying at a faster rate now than any other time in the last four years.
Mobile device operating systems (iOS, Android, Blackberry, and Windows) have been updating
their systems in hopes of offsetting the rise in malware being passed along. As the updates come
out, so does new hacks and malware over time. One step that users can use to help minimize their
chances of catching malware on their mobile device is by uninstalling all unneeded programs and

Female Body Stereotypes
Do you want a thigh gap? Some girls do because one word about how a girl looks will mess with
their heads, girls always check to see if they have a curvy body and will try to act like they have
a great body and try to achieve this goal. Girls nowadays only care about how they look and it s
not healthy, they just don t wantto get made fun of because of their bodies. Girls always feel like
they needto have perfect bodies because of all the pressure being put on them and/or being
bullied into it or peer pressured into it. The reason girls feel pressure on themselves is because
everyone judges you on your body. Guys will only like you for your looks and not anything else
like personality, interests, how nice you are. Everybody judges to soon about really nice people
because they can t see past their looks. Girls always judgeother people like not so popular girls or
people that are weird, not so social, socially akward, or people that don t really fit in that much.
Even guys get judged by girls because of looks, there s too much pressure on girl s to have
perfect bodies because people expect you to be perfect, girls want to live up to those expectations,
and that pressure is put on you.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Perhaps the key is to stop recommending body stereotypes altogether. Basically saying that if
people try too look good maybe they will be judged less. Then people wouldn t have to try so
hard, but everybody could just stop judging altogether. If everyone stop judging, it would stop
eating disorders, being unhealthy, and bullying. Your body is going to be disturbingly thin and
you will get called anorexic, too skinny, and other names you don t want to be called. If you want
all these problems, then go ahead and try the thigh gap look but, it s not going to be a good
decision just know that you ve been warned of what could happen, it is your choice after

Memory Essay
Memory is defined as the persistence of learning over time through the storage and retrieval of
information. Our memory can be compared to a computer s information processing system. To
remember an event we need to get information into our brain which is encoding, store the
information and then be able to retrieve it. The three stage processing model of Richard Atkinson
and Richard Shiffrin suggests that we record information that we want to remember first as a
fleeting sensory memoryand then it is processed into a short term memory bin where we encode it
( pay attention to encode important or novel stimuli) for long term memory and later retrieval. The
premise for the three step process is that we are unable to focus on too much... Show more content

The amount remembered depends on the time spent learning. Even after we learn material/names,
additional rehearsal increases retention. For novel verbal information, practice effortful processing
does indeed improve our memory. We also retain information better when our rehearsal is
distributed over a period of time, known as spacing effect. People who have experienced serial
position effect strengthen the benefits of rehearsal. When shown a list of words/names and then
immediately asked to recall the items in any order, they struggle to recall the list. They remember
of the first and last words/names better than those in the middle. This is probably due to the fact
that the last names/ items are still in short term memory; people briefly recall them especially
quickly and well. But after a delay, after they shift their attention from the last names/items their
recall is best for the first names/items. We must remember that our memory system processes
information not just by repetitive rehearsal but also by encoding its significant features.
Strategies and devices that help us remember information that requires effortful processing are:
encoding its meaning, visualizing, and mentally organizing the

Essay on A Day in the Forest
A Day in the Forest
It was a calm, overcast day, and I found myself resting at the side of a large oak tree, admiring the
beauty of the woods that surrounded me.
The sunless sky covered the woods over the treetops which created a canopy over my head. The
crimson and auburn foliage was a magnificent sight, as this was the season known as Fall. There
was a gentle breeze, creating the single sound of rustling leaves. The leaves appeared as though
they were dying to fall out of the tree and join their companions on the forest floor. Together with
pine needles and other flora the leaves formed a thick springy carpet for me to walk upon.
In the distance, the trail along which I had been walking wound through a thick ... Show more

accompanied thickets of weeds. A lazy mist hazed my vision, making the horizon seem like one
from a story book. The area was imperturbable, as if it was keeping a secret hidden deep within
itself.
Resting underneath the shade of the trees, I found myself appreciating the scent of pine needles;
the ambiance of Christmas. Encompassed by the thick heavy air, I watched as a single sparrow
fluttered high above the emerald forest. A few feet next to me an eager chipmunk hastily
scampered from tree to tree, awaiting the chill of winter. The forest, I realized, was home to many
wild creatures. In giving protection and food, the forest was gladly rewarded with the company of
these animals. Beyond the horizon, I could see the community of newly formed saplings. They
appeared as little children, learning under the guidance of their grown and fully matured parents.
The forest was pure and clean, as though it had never been disturbed by man and his vicious life
killing machines. Peacefully sleeping under the dark gray sky, the community of mighty timber had
not a care in the world.
As I left behind the somber forest, I now recognized an appreciation for nature that I did not realize
I had. I now knew there was more to nature than just trees and animals, but also I found the

Coq10 Supplements
Many people are skeptical about taking supplements to help maintain a healthy heart and prevent
heart disease and cancer. There are many supplements being sold all over the world. Some of the
ones I found were CoQ10, Fish Oil, Niacin, Hawthorn Berry and Natto K. Before taking any
supplements it is important that you research each product thoroughly.
The first supplement I found was CoQ10 also known as ubiquinone and ubiquinol. CoQ10 is
naturally created. Your body naturally makes small amounts of CoQ10, and your cells use it to
produce energy your body needs for cell growth and maintenance. Even though there is no solid
evidence that CoQ10 help prevents heart disease and cancer; some scientist noticed that people with
cancer had little ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fish Oil contains docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) both which are
very important when it comes to preventing and managing heart disease. Side effects of Fish Oil
may include an upset stomach, loose stools and nausea. There is no scientific studies to support
whether or not Fish Oil actually protects against heart disease and cancer.
Another supplement I found is Niacin. Niacin reduces the risk of heart attack dramatically. Niacin
can be vital in combating heart disease, when used alone or in combination with other treatments
such as fish oil. Some side effects of Niacin are diarrhea, proneness to infections, and liver
problems. Though Niacin reduces the risk of heart attack it does not help with those who suffer
from hardened arteries.
Hawthorn Berry has been used to treat heart disease since the first century. Hawthorn Berry
contains Oligomeric Proanthocyanidins (OPCs), which may help cardiovascular health. Hawthorn
Berry helps to dilate blood vessels, improve blood flow and protects the blood vessels from
damage. Side effects of this supplement are very rare but may include headaches, nausea and the
feeling of a racing

Organization Overview J. Willard Marriott and Alice, his wife, started their entrepreneurship in
1927 by opening an A W root beer stand with nine seats in Washington D.C. (Marriott, 2017).
Seizing an opportunity, the Marriott s decided to diversify the A W root beer menu by
incorporating hot food items, thus creating Hot Shoppes. When the business strategy called for
expansion in 1928, two additional Hot Shoppes opened creating the first East Coast drive in
(Marriott, 2017). Concentrating on other areas of development, Hot Shoppes delivered boxed
lunches to the Hoover Airport in Washington D.C. in 1937. During the mid 1960s, Hot Shoppes
reached its pinnacle with approximately 75 stores in roughly a dozen states (Ambrose, 1999).
Changing times caused the Marriott to re examine the restaurant strategy and realized that they
should sell off the profitable, slow growing family restaurant that included the Roy Rogers Family
Restaurants and Bob s Big Boy (Ambrose, 1999). Sadly, the last Hot Shoppes closed in December
of 1999, which ended the Marriott restaurant experience. However, long before Hot Shoppes closed,
the couple discerns that the hospitality industry is the new corporate focus. The Marriott s opened

The Impact Of Charlie Chaplin s Impact On Film
Throughout this course, we have talked about a lot of different directors, photographers, artists,
actors, etc., involved in some of the most foundational and original films during the silent film
era. However, the person who really intrigued me the most was, none other than, Charlie
Chaplin. In fact, I d like to use this paper to further explore his life and career to gain some
perspective on who he was and the steps it took for him to rise to fame. I believe his impact on
film throughout his life was extremely influential, and in order to understand that impact, I must
start from the beginning. Charles S. Chaplin was born in London, England on April 16th of
1889. His father, Charles Chaplin Sr. and mother, Hannah Harriett (stage name: Lily Harley),
each doubled as vocalists and stage performers. Thanks to his parents, Charlie discovered his
talents at an early age. He was only five years old when he made his first appearance on stage as
a fill in for his mother at a music hall performance. After that, his passion for the performing arts
could only grow larger. However, his life took a dramatic turn after his father left and his mother
was subsequently put into an asylum, all before the age of ten. Because of this, Charlie and his
brother Sydney were set off on a hard journey where they were left to fend for themselves. After
two years spent with his half brother in an ill kept orphanage, doing his best to use his mother s
contacts to reach some sort of acting

Why The Explorers Should Not Be Glorified
Why the Explorers Shouldn t be Glorified
At the bloody hands of the explorers, lay millions of deaths. To honor these souls, we must not
glorify these explorers for these awful crimes they have committed. These explorers have done
many things that cannot be overlooked. They have brought in epidemics, they have killed people,
and they have enslaved Native Americans. These inexcusable crimes are the very reason we should
not be glorifying these explorers.
The explorers killed people. Document 5 states that the explorers have a cruel and abnormal
punishment. They burn their organs, no year passes in which they do not sacrifice 50 soul at each
temple in their kingdom. Whenever they asked anything of their gods, in order for it to be
fulfilled, they take several boys, girls, men, and women, and in the presence of the statues of their
gods they cut open their chests while they are still alive and take out their hearts. This document
provides the evidence to support my claim, this document proves that the explorers killed humans
in horrible way. Therefore, the explorers should not be glorified. I acknowledge the fact that
Christopher Columbus discovered America, or that Magellan tasted the salt water and found out
where he was. We should be able to endorse that they made a lot of positives, but the positives don

The illness was so dreadful that no one could walk or move. A great amount of people died from

Heritage And Heritage Of Heritage
The one thing that sets an individual from other individuals is the uniqueness of one s heritage.
Heritage is the essential part of a person s life, it is the very foundation that an individual future is
built from. Heritage can be based on a family values, tradition and environment. Traditions, and
cultural legacies come from grandparents or older relatives, they contribute to our familyvalues. We
all take the parts of the past that means the most to us, and combine it with the new traditions. In
this paper, I will discuss what heritage is, the importance of how heritage identifies an individual,
or can it inhibit an individual s self identity, and finally look at some family tradition that makes up
one s heritage.
What is heritage?
First, heritage is a critical piece that represents who you are; it is the history of an individual.
Heritage is something that you are born with or have inherited. This can be the color of your skin,
an accent in the language that you speak, or the passing down of a unique item. For example, the
short story Everyday Use , by Alice Walker, the narrator of the story Mama passes down two
quilt to one of her daughter s, Maggie. The quilt had been hand made with all kinds of material,
one particular material was from Maggie s Grandpa Ezra. Grandpa Ezra s materials had come
from his uniform that he had worn, while in the Civil War. Other material for the quilt had come
from a dress that her Grandma Dee had worn, as well as other member of

  • 2. The Symbols Of The Grimm Brothers Fairy tales weren t always fairy tales. Happy endings weren t always the goal. It didn t use to be in a land far away. Once upon a time didn t exist. The Grimm brothers wrote stories as gory and grim as their name suggests. Their tales were darkly comical, brusque and tragic. They were stories that were the truth for the people. It all began, 200 years ago when this seemingly ordinary pair of brothers and German librarians put together one of the most influential work of folklore in Germany, Europe and now the world. Wilhelm Carl and Jacob Ludwig Grimm, the brother s interest in literature was fostered when they were at the University of Marburg in the early 1800 s was when they were encouraged to collect popular German folklore stories and other material by their law professor, Friedrich Carl von Savigny. Savigny was an important figure in the nationalist Romantic Movement that called for Germany to be culturally and politically united. Savigny was a form of inspiration to the brothers and a mentor to them. The brother s used metaphors in their writing that they believed were saving authentic German popular culture, an endangered species at that time. The metaphors used by them were messianic and ecological. The preface of the first edition of the book begins with, We find it well, if storm or other misfortune, from heaven set a whole ... • 3. Atlantic Hurricane Case Study In the late summer of 2004 Florida was ravished by 4 consecutive hurricanes within the span of 44 days. From August 13 until early October, Florida was struck by Hurricanes Charley, Hurricane Frances, Hurricane Ivan, and Hurricane Jeanne whom all ranged winds of 90mph to 160mph. These storms left behind costly environmental, structural and social damage. Ripping the roofs off many homes while dismantling many other homes, those hurricanes changed the way the State of Florida and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) viewed Atlantic hurricane season. Evacuating over 8 million residents and business owners and incurring over $35 billion in disaster recovery funds, government officials began to seek out different approaches to creating... The hurricane ripped through Florida with winds up to 160 mph and caused 26.5 billion in damage alone. These cycles were whether still unpredictable than desired and should have created a sense of urgency towards preparing Florida for another disastrous hurricane season. Initially when first signs of Hurricane Charley first surfaced many media representatives and meteorologists predicted the hurricane to not make landfall in Florida. The hurricane was projected to stay within the Atlantic Ocean and only cause minor storms and constant rain on the Eastern Seaboard. Friday, August 12, Hurricane Charley set his eyes on the coast of Florida. Although the media broadcasted up to date information concerning the hurricane s movement and growth, residents considered the storm not to be a threat based on weather predictions. Once Charley dismayed after leaving behind costly damages, the media begin to find different reasoning for the sporadic path change that Charley had shown. • 4. The Negative Effects Of Technology And Its Effects On The... With all of the technological advances that have been made over the last decade, it is amazing that a person ever leaves their home. While technology allegedly makes our lives better, in reality, technology only makes our lives more difficult. In doing so it changes the way things used to be done, it causes a huge lack of communication and lastly, technologyis great, until it breaks. Technology has changed the way that the world does many things. Looking back one of the things that I miss the most was getting birthday calls or cards. Now all my birthday wishes come on a Facebook wall. These wishes come from all over the world but most of them are from people I never talk to. How do they remember my birthday? Is it because I am important to them. Nope! It is because Facebook has an app that tells them it is my birthday and they feel obligated to wish me a happy birthday because we are friends on Facebook. While it makes me feel special to know that 683 people wished me happy birthday on my special day. How many of them would know who I was if I ran into them at the store? Not many of them would and while it might make us feel good for the moment, it is not reality. It is technology. It has even changed how we get mail. It used to be that we would have to wait days for a letter to come. Now we have email and can receive a letter from anywhere in the world in a matter of seconds. While this is a wonderful thing it still does not replace the feeling one gets when they go to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Social Issues In Pride And Prejudice Jane Austen s well known novel, Pride and Prejudice, discussed multiple social themes in the 19th century. Austen mainly criticized marriage during her era, when she says that, it is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife (Austen 3). As she explains that it was valuable to women since it provided them with security and a social title. The author explored the diverse motives behind matrimony in her time period by using a humorous and romantic plot to discuss the social issues. For instance, Charlotte Lucas s unreasonable marriage to Mr. Collins is a vital example of how women needed to secure a future and attain social status. To conclude, Lydia Bennet s meaningless marriage to George Wickham shows that entering the marriage estate could have also been for mainly financial purposes. Contrastingly, Jane Bennet, the heroine s older sister, marries Charles Bingley for love, security, and a social ranking. On the other hand, Elizabeth Bennet marries Fitzwilliam Darcyafter months of misunderstandings and romantic drama for none other than true love. Thus, Austen uses her leading characters marriages in Pride and Prejudiceto exhibit the various attitudes and reasons for marrying in the 19th century. • 8. The Philosophy Of Education Is Its Differing Aims Around 2,300 years ago, Aristotle raised many issues regarding the opposing perspectives about the practice of education. He affirmed that there is no universal accord about whether education should be directed more towards intellectual objectives or towards the character of the individual. He also proposed that there is doubt about whether educationshould be aimed at notion valuable for everyday life or at notions approving to virtues. As a matter of fact, modern day educators are still deliberating the concerns Aristotle raised. Ultimately, the most primitive dilemma the philosophyof education is its differing aims. Philosophers of education question, what are the proper aims and leading principles of education? What is the appropriate criterion for assessing academic attempts, educational institutions, procedures, and outcomes? In fact, diverse proposals to resolving these significant affairs have given rise to contrasting schools of thought in the philosophy of education. This exploratory paper will analyze and inquire three schools of thought: Essentialism, Critical Theoryand Pragmatism. Each of these schools of thought considers their principles the best. The paper will conclude with my viewpoint as to where I situate my philosophy of education among these three schools of thought. The term Essentialism as a scholarly philosophy was formerly disseminated in the 1930s by the American educator William Chandler Bagley (Gutek, 2004, p. 264). This approach seeks to ... Mr. Cohen was prosecuted by the U.S. government; his conviction resulted in a battle between the U.S. and the two small Caribbean islands of Barbuda and Antigua. The epic battle of David and Goliath was mediated by the World Trade Organization (WTO) and raised a lot of interesting questions about international trade and internet gaming (Steiner, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In regards to online gaming, horse racing is a legal sporting event where betting is allowed to take place online and across state lines. That fact alone makes the U.S. government s argument of morality null and void. There is no difference between gambling on a horse race and betting on a sporting event. Legislation that attempts to control individual choice is an infringement on civil liberties and has not proven successful in the past, particularly with prohibition on gambling and alcohol. Mr. Cohen lost a significant amount of his life because he was convicted on a ridiculous charge. Where is the morality in that? Gambling continues to gain in popularity and many states are embracing the industry in order to boost tourism, increase revenue, and create jobs. This trend will probably continue as people begin to realize that the government should not decide whether or not a person can gamble. This is a prime example of too much government; the country has more pressing issues to deal with and should focus on problems that truly affect the American people. Technological Environment Technology is a huge factor in this case because all WSE s transactions where conducted online, telephonic, or via wire transfer. The online forum is specifically the issue that the U.S. government had with WSE s profits generated from U.S. consumers. The country s position was that Mr. Cohen was in violation of the Wire ... People are all searching for their own things. Some search for things like: money, power, fame, knowledge, peace, understanding, and a sense of who they are. Some people do just for the thrillof adventure. Siddhartha wants to find his individual place in society through personal experienceand follow no one else s ideas but his own. With this realization he leaves the city without letting anyone know. The final leg of Siddhartha a journey leads him back to the river he crossed so many years ago. Here he nearly commits suicide but is saved by the sacred word quot;om quot;. After a chance meeting with Govinda he looks into the river smiling and sees the river smiling back at him. When he sees this he decides to stay by the river and asks the ferryman to become his assistant. Now Siddhartha will learn what it means to travel between the world of the intellect and the world of the senses, and listen while he does it (Understanding Hermann Hesse 104). The first thing Siddhartha learns from the river is that there is no such thing as time, and this metaphor is central to the theology that Hesse follows. It expresses all of being as an eternal present: quot;Nothing was, nothing will be, everything is, everything has being and presence quot; (Understanding Hermann Hesse 104). Siddhartha s journey is almost complete, but he still has one more thing to experience. That thing is love. Siddhartha gains this experience when Kamala, on a journey to see the Buddha before he dies, is poisoned by a snake and dies. This leaves young Siddhartha in the hands of Siddhartha and Vasudeva. Vasudeva warns Siddhartha not to protect his son, because protection only delays the inevitable and makes the ultimate confrontation with life s unpleasantness, pain, ... Essay about The Voice of the Sea in The Awakening The Voice of the Sea in The Awakening Many different symbols were utilized in Kate Chopin s The Awakening to illustrate the underlying themes and internal conflict of the characters. One constant and re emerging symbol is the sea. The voice of the sea is seductive, never ceasing, whispering, clamoring, murmuring, inviting the soul to wander for a spell in abysses of solitude; to lose itself in mazes of inward contemplation. The voice of the sea speaks to the soul. The touch of the sea is sensuous, enfolding the body in its soft, close embrace (Chopin 25). Edna s recollection of this event allows her to more clearly recognize her internal turmoil. The link between Edna s awakening and the ocean becomes even clearer when after several attempts she finally learns to swim. The first time she ventures out into the ocean alone is the first step toward her independence. She panics when she realizes how far she has gone alone and fears drowning. This incident represents Edna gaining control over her body and becoming more aware of her full potential. The ocean helps her recognize that her body is her own and she awakens to her physical, mental, and emotional capabilities. But that night she was like the little tottering, stumbling, clutching child, who of a sudden realizes its powers, and walks for the first time alone, boldly and with overconfidence. (Chopin 47). • 12. New Testament Research Paper What is New Testament? The New Testament is a collection of books which contains the writings concerning the significant events in the life of Jesus of Nazareth. These books appeared after the physical death of Jesus Christ. In this regard, Jesus had left no records concerning him, and all that is written about him depends wholly on what other people have written about him. The first four books of the New Testament are part of the several biographies of Jesus which were written by the end of the first century of the era of Christianity. Then before any of these biographies have been drafted, there were Christian communities which were being instructed through epistles on how to live like Jesus and how to solve their problem like Christians. A good number of these letters were written by a man called Paul. After Paul death, some other new leaders of the Christian movement continued to write letters to the churches to encourage and strengthen them. As Christians grew in number persecution arose, and some letters have been drafted to support them and also to counter the false doctrines. These letters are part of the New Testament. The twenty seven books of the New Testament were selected from the list of writings in that period (Bruce, 1988) The New Testament is a history of Jesus of Nazareth and his ... A CVC is a thin flexible catheter that is inserted into a large vein near the heart in either the arm or the chest. (Web MD, 2016) This central line is used to provide medication, fluids, nutrients, or blood products over a long period of time. This is generally used for patients who have chemotherapy, frequent blooddraws, need additional nutritional support, or have kidney failure. (ATS, 2015) There are several considerations to keep in mind when a CVC is being administered such as understanding why a CVC is being placed, safety guidelines, teaching considerations, and ways to care for the CVC. Reasons for needing a CVC There are several reasons why a CVC may be placed depending on each patient s condition. It is important for each patient to understand the reason for having a central line inserted; some reasons may include: I.V. medications for a long period of time, large amounts of fluid, several blood draws, additional nutrition, or kidney failure. When administering medication over a long period of time it can be irritating to the vein so a central line is placed so that it is easily tolerated; especially for chemotherapy medications. When administering fluids through a larger vein it is less irritating to the vein and it is easier to manage fluid intake. Patients can often have several blood draws daily in order to run tests to make sure that the treatment and body function is maintaining; so it is ideal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

ARGUMENT AGAINST MILITARY INTERVENTION FOR HUMANITARIAN RELIEF An understanding of where the Syrian healthcare system stood before the civil war, the toll of the fighting and intentional targeting of medical personnel/infrastructure, ongoing humanitarian efforts, and America s actions to date enable an informed evaluation of whether or not to use American militaryforces in a humanitarian assistance role in Syria. This context allows for an examination of the limitations of humanitarian aid, the advantages/disadvantages of plausible courses of action involving the military and the threat of mission creep. Before evaluating the merits of available courses of action the military can take to address Syria s medical crisis, it is important to identify and understand the limitations of humanitarian assistance in general. Taylor Seybolt, Associate Professor in International Affairs at the University of Pittsburgh an expert on military and humanitarian intervention, cites the following inherent limitations of humanitarian intervention: it does not provide a lasting solution to conflict; it has the potential to prolong wars; it can foster economic dependence; and it inhibits strong state development.19 When these limitations are considered in regard to Syria, military intervention for the sole purpose of providing medical humanitarian support does not make sense. Foner who is a historian believes that the main cause of the Civil War was the South s opposition to freeing slaves. He states that slavery was the big reason why the Civil War was started and that all of the other issues stemmed off of it. This view is shared among the anti flag supporters as seen in this quotation from another anti flag article. Try as we may to pretend that slavery wasn t a big issue as any other, the truth is, had the South been agreeable to the idea of ending slavery, then the civil war may very well have never happened (Amy par. 2). Foner then uses logos by explaining how the Declaration of the Immediate Causes of Secession shows evidence of this in its causes of secession. To understand what the flag now flying in Columbia represents, one need only read the Declaration of Immediate Causes of Secession, adopted by South Carolina secession convention in December 1860 (Foner par. 2). Foner gives some examples of the declaration being about slavery by quoting some things it stated, and one quotation out of the Declaration of Immediate Causes of Secession is about Lincoln being a man whose opinions and purposes are hostile to slavery (Foner par. 2). Contrary to popular belief, that all beers are typically the same, there are many variances in color, flavor, strength, production method, ingredients and origin. Beercan be divided into 2 broad sub categories: aleand lager. Ales were the first type of beer ever created before brewers knew the role yeast played during the beer making process. Ale brewers, typically have more leeway with how they produce their beer, and tend to add a several different ingredients during brewing, like the ones mentioned above. These extra ingredients are referred to as, adjuncts. Brewers of lagers only have a few, simple ingredients: malted grain, hops, yeast, and water. • 28. Space Shuttle Challenger Failure Essay Cause(s) of Accident The reason space shuttle Challenger went down was caused by a failure in the joint between the two lower segments of the right rocket motor. The specific failure was the destruction of the seals that are intended to prevent hot gases from leaking through the joint during the burn of the rocket motor. Unfortunately, a combustion gas leak through the right Solid Rocket Motor aft field joint initiated shortly after ignition eventually weakened and penetrated the external tank starting the breakup and loss of the Challenger. The evidence assembled by the Commission indicates that no other element of the Space Shuttle system contributed to this failure. The failure was due to a faulty design sensitive to a number of factors. ( CHALLENGER EXPLOSION, n.d.) Structural and Mechanical Factors There was a fundamental design flaw in the joint that engineers had grown accustomed to and had learned to live with. Although the boosters were not designed to work this way, it was not uncommon for the booster casing to balloon under the stress of ignition, causing the metal parts of the casing to bend away from each other, creating gaps through which hot gases could leak. The intention is to follow the client from their entrance into the program until the client is discharged. In this process the clients problems are identified through various assessments and as each problem is addressed, it is checked off of the list. Once all of the problems are checked off of the list, the client is considered as having completed the plan. This plan is especially important because it evokes thoughtful conversation between the client and the counselor and is the best method to gain information from the client regarding the help they want to receive. The second most significant thing that I learned about group counseling is how to design a group from start to finish. From pre group design, planning the goals of the group and determining the members to setting up the environment and structuring the sessions, each step adds its own important components to designing group counseling. As a potential group leader I have learned a few things about myself in terms of my interactions with the clients. Though it was a difficult decision for him to make, it is still not the right one. At one point, Frankie talks to Father Horvak and expresses his conflicted feelings. Father Horvak advises Frankie to leave Maggie with God, since it is wrong to kill a human being even under the circumstances. In his perspective, Frankie justifies the act by saying that it is wrong for him to let her suffer any longer. He makes an individual decision that goes against his faith and kills Maggie, just to end her suffering. It might have seemed like a good decision at the time since it would end Maggie s suffering, but he still killed her, which is wrong. The decision that Frankie made had a huge impact on his relationship with God, self and others. First, after helping Maggie die, Frankie felt a disconnection from God. • 34. When Irene Character Analysis I believe that Claire was pushed out of the window at the end of the novel. This belief stems from the buildup of resentment that Irene had felt toward Claire during the entirety of the story, but I thought that in the final section this resentment began to go from simply not agreeing each other to Irene feeling threatened by Claire. Irene and Brian have what seems to be a marriage held together by children and when Irene begins to suspect Claire is using her charms to win over Brian, Irene immediately starts to fear Brian leaving her for Claire. This would rip apart the stability that Irene wants so desperately in her life and she cannot allow that. We have watched Irene attempt to manipulate people throughout the story, especially with Brian as exemplified by her not allowing Brian to leave his job for the sake of the family. When Irene starts to imagine Claire taking away Brian, I think that it is not a stretch to think that Irene would do whatever it takes to make sure that the situation could not possibly come up. Looking past Irene s desire for stability, I believe that her continuous jealousy towards Claire would serve as proof for Irene pushing Claire out of the window. Irene describes Claire ... Failure Of Failure After Failure As my first semester of college is coming to an end, I would like to reflect on my experience here within the Honors 120 and 121 class on Failure and the Question Wheel. I chose this class on failure because I have always held myself to such high standards that I hoped to be able to find a way to accept failure in some instances. Within our first week in class, we made claims about failure. My favorite claim was that every failure is in some way a success. Although this claim was not very debatable and incredibly generic, I was able to really let my mind explore what it was trying to say. Throughout the semester I experienced failure after failure, but that allowed me to see that success can still be achieved within failures. One major failure I experienced throughout the entire semester was my failure to speak up in class. In the beginning of the school year I failed to speak up mainly because I was shy and being around all new people whom I did not know made me feel very anxious. I thought that my anxietyabout this class would lessen over time as I got to know my fellow classmates. However, as time went on I realized that while a majority of my classmates share these anxious feelings with me, the other students that had been speaking up are very strong willed and can be judgmental at times. The Topic Of Fate Of Ancient Greece During The Golden Age The Topic of Fate in Ancient Greece During the Golden Age The Golden Age of Athens started with the final defeat of Persia in 479 B.C. and the formation of the Delian League in 478 B.C. With the defeat of Persia came a period of prosperity for Athens, a time of great political advancements and many reforms to daily life. Around 461 B.C., a former general named Perikles became the dominant politician of Athens. During his reign (461 429 B.C.) he made Athens a strong and imperialistic city state, one that forced their allies to remain in the Delian League. Sparta, who had left the league shortly after the defeat of the Persians, had created their own league, the Peloponnesian League. The two leagues signed the Thirty Years Treaty, which stated that the two leagues may not fight for thirty years. Athens went against the treaty by helping a city state who was in the other league. Athens and Sparta declare war against one another shortly after. Homer s Illiad and Sophocles Oedipus Tyrannos had an effect on the citizens of Athens in the respect of fate. In both classics, fate is considered unavoidable and ultimately inevitable. The topic of fate during this time is an important topic to Athenians because they fear that a battle against the Peloponnesian League is inevitable, just like Achilles fate to die in Troy, or Oedipus fate to kill his father and marry his mother. Before the life altering party that introduced her to this life of addiction, Alice was a typical teenage girl who faced the fears and unknown of moving to a new town and school, feelings of nonacceptance from her friends and peers, body issues, and pressure from her parents. The argument can be made that one of the many roots of Alice s worsening habit is mainly her relationship with her motherand father; however, once Alice has left her familyin search of her next high and life on her own, she began to long for them once again. Although she ran away from her life and family twice, each time Alice was accepted home with loving, caring arms. So while her parents may have played a role in her delving into the life of drugs to escape her woes, they could also be considered one of her potentially saving graces toward the end of the novel. However, no matter the amount of effort Alice or her family put forth into her recovery, the drugs ultimately won the battle for Alice s life. At the beginning of the novel, before Alice attended the fateful party that changed her world forever, she did not fully see her parents affection toward her; she was caught up in her teenage world of guys and heartbreak, leading her to misinterpret how her parents only had her best interests in mind. Our memory can be compared to a computer s information processing system. To remember an event we need to get information into our brain which is encoding, store the information and then be able to retrieve it. The three stage processing model of Richard Atkinson and Richard Shiffrin suggests that we record information that we want to remember first as a fleeting sensory memoryand then it is processed into a short term memory bin where we encode it ( pay attention to encode important or novel stimuli) for long term memory and later retrieval. The premise for the three step process is that we are unable to focus on too much... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The amount remembered depends on the time spent learning. Even after we learn material/names, additional rehearsal increases retention. For novel verbal information, practice effortful processing does indeed improve our memory. People who have experienced serial position effect strengthen the benefits of rehearsal. When shown a list of words/names and then immediately asked to recall the items in any order, they struggle to recall the list. They remember of the first and last words/names better than those in the middle. This is probably due to the fact that the last names/ items are still in short term memory; people briefly recall them especially quickly and well. But after a delay, after they shift their attention from the last names/items their recall is best for the first names/items. The Impact Of Charlie Chaplin s Impact On Film Throughout this course, we have talked about a lot of different directors, photographers, artists, actors, etc., involved in some of the most foundational and original films during the silent film era. However, the person who really intrigued me the most was, none other than, Charlie Chaplin. In fact, I d like to use this paper to further explore his life and career to gain some perspective on who he was and the steps it took for him to rise to fame. I believe his impact on film throughout his life was extremely influential, and in order to understand that impact, I must start from the beginning. Charles S. Chaplin was born in London, England on April 16th of 1889. His father, Charles Chaplin Sr. and mother, Hannah Harriett (stage name: Lily Harley), each doubled as vocalists and stage performers. Thanks to his parents, Charlie discovered his talents at an early age. He was only five years old when he made his first appearance on stage as a fill in for his mother at a music hall performance. After that, his passion for the performing arts could only grow larger. However, his life took a dramatic turn after his father left and his mother was subsequently put into an asylum, all before the age of ten. To honor these souls, we must not glorify these explorers for these awful crimes they have committed. These explorers have done many things that cannot be overlooked. They have brought in epidemics, they have killed people, and they have enslaved Native Americans. These inexcusable crimes are the very reason we should not be glorifying these explorers. The explorers killed people. Document 5 states that the explorers have a cruel and abnormal punishment. They burn their organs, no year passes in which they do not sacrifice 50 soul at each temple in their kingdom. Whenever they asked anything of their gods, in order for it to be fulfilled, they take several boys, girls, men, and women, and in the presence of the statues of their gods they cut open their chests while they are still alive and take out their hearts.
