Immanuel Kant s Influence On Moral Philosophy
The thinking of Immanuel Kant greatly influenced moral philosophy. He thought of moral value
as a unique and universally identifiable property, as an absolute value rather than a relative value.
He showed that many practical goods are good only in states of affairs described by a sentence
containing an if clause, e.g., in the sentence, Sunshine is only good if you do not live in the desert.
Further, the if clause often described the category in which the judgment was made (art, science,
etc.). Kant described these as hypothetical goods , and tried to find a categorical good that would
operate across all categories of judgment without depending on an if then clause.
An influential result of Kant s search was the idea of a good will being the only intrinsic good.
Moreover, Kant saw a good will as acting in accordance with a moral command, the Categorical
Imperative : Act according to those maxims that you could will to be universal law. but should not
be confused with the Ethic of Reciprocity or Golden Rule, e.g. Whereas the golden rule states that
One should treat others as one would like others to treat oneself, Kant asks us to analyze whether an
act can be performed simultaneously by everyone without exception. ... Show more content on

That disparity is an exception. The act cannot be performed without exception therefore it fails
the categorical imperative. Contrast this with the golden rule which is subjective to the
individual. Following the logic of the golden rule, if I wanted someone to kill me, then it would
be acceptable for me to kill others, because I would be doing to others what I would want done to
me. This is very important to keep in mind, because Kant s categorical imperative avoids this flaw.
From this, and a few other axioms, Kant developed a moral system that would apply to any

Comparing Dante and Boccaccio Essay
Talking about Dante and Boccaccio is , maybe , the most complex thing to do , in one sitting.
Their differences and similarities are so obvious in some way but also , in other way , are so
vague. If you want to do their comparing and contrasting , you should consider of doing a deep
research because with the every source you look up , you find another interesting points.
Their aspects are seperated from each other . Their not also aspects but also writing styles , lifes
and thoughts toward the events they live , show some differences. For example ; both used Italian

It was exactly the ninth hour of day when she gave me her sweet greeting. As this was the first
time she had ever spoken to me, I was filled with such joy that, my senses reeling, I had to
withdraw from the sight of others. So I returned to the loneliness of my room and began to think
about this gracious person. (La Vita Nuova III)
Though The Vita Nuova suggests that she is a real woman , Beatrice hardly has any life outside
Dante s own mind. She effects him physically enough ; she makes him sigh , tremble . weep .
But she has neither body nor character of her own . She is just a vision , an angel a divine
messenger to Dante . Dante doesn t even try to talk to her , even as the story proceeds he
becomes incapable of resist on her presence or her sight. She is seen as Dante s salvation in Divine
Comedy . Dante considers her as a mirror of Christ , as a saint .
He is a man that in love tragically but here is a irony. He loves Beatrice , we are not sure if he
wants to come together with her because he doesn t show any signs of it . He just talks about
her , her supremacy but maybe he doesn t dream of getting together with her , one day . Love ,
for Dante means ; loving anything , a material , an animal or a human is loving God . It is indirect
or direct , everything you love

The Pros And Cons Of Human Security
INTRODUCTION
Human security unlike security definition extends to include the many non military threats to
harmony and individual dignity. In simple terms it means freedom from fear and freedom from
want. It s about protecting citizens from persistent threats, building on their aspirations and
strengths, and allowing them the attainment of personal empowerment (UNESCO, 2007). Human
security also comprises of protection from natural tragedies along with environmental pollution,
global violence, global pandemics, forced manual labour, famine and genocide.
However the term human security can be defined in different ways but meaning one and the same
for example: Kofi Annan stated that in its broadest sense, human security embraces far more than
the absence of violent conflict. It encompasses human rights, good governance, access to education
and health care and ensuring that each individual has opportunities and choices to fulfill his or her
potential. Every step in this direction is also a step towards reducing poverty, achieving economic
growth and preventing conflict. Freedom from want, freedom from fear, and the freedom of future
generations to inherit a healthy natural environment these are the interrelated building blocks of
human and therefore national security (Kofi Annan, 2000). Similarly Ramesh ... Show more content

In this part of the essay we shall discuss the critic s and advocates side of human security.. For
opponents of human security, the idea is just too broad to be logically used as a tool of
policymaking. According to one opponent of this issue, Roland Paris, existing definitions of
human security tend to be extraordinarily expansive and vague, encompassing everything from
physical security to psychological well being, which provides policymakers with little guidance in
the prioritization of competing policy goals and academics little sense of what, exactly, is to be

Bebbington on Evangelicalism
In the late 1980 s, David Bebbington attempted to define what it meant to be an evangelical in
America. He came up with a four part definition. The definition has four criteria and they are:
biblicism, conversionism, crucicentrism, and activism. He wished to find a definition that would
show what unified different evangelical movements and denominations during his time. Bebbington
s definition can also be applied to modern or historic denominations and movements. Bebbington s
definition should fit with any church that defines itself as evangelical, but what about a modern non
denominational biblechurch meets that definition? Also what does Bebbington s definition say
about the pre bible belt Baptist movement in colonial America? If both a modern non
denominational bible church and a pre bible belt baptist movement meet the definition set forth by
Bebbington, then they should have some meaningful connection. However, that connection
between a evangelical church and a evangelical movement is not so clear. Bebbington s four part
definition is too wide and accepting to different interpretation to be called meaningful. Each part of
his definition needs to be explained and evaluated to see if any meaningful connection between a
bible church and the Baptist movement of early souther America have have any meaningful
connection under Bebbington s definition of evangelical. Bebbington s definition has four parts.
The first part is biblicism. Biblicism is a term which means

The Glass Menagerie And Winnie Holzman And Stephen...
Theater has been a platform that has been used to deepen our communication and understanding of
the complexities of the world around us. It teaches us through language, movement, and the
establishment of intimate relationships that play to the contagious nature of emotions.
The majority of the 20th century saw a utilization of plays as a tool to stimulate social change,
provoke viewers to assess the foundation of what they believe, and an attempt to depict humanity as
it truly was. In comparison, though not totally in abandonment, the later 20th century and early
21th century brought to life a more flashy, commercialized interpretation of this tool, and played to
the societal theme of entertainment, as seen in the increase of musical theater (Janaro). A true
example of this stark contrast is Tennessee Williamstragedy The Glass Menagerie and Winnie
Holzman and Stephen Schwartz s mega musical Wicked. Although from fundamentally different
eras and using the employment of distinctive structures that correlate with the different branches of
theater, at the core, these stories speak to the same idea of freedom as discussed in the Janaro text.
Through assessing the actual elements of these theatrical pieces, there are a lot of similar motifs
advanced by both works. In both cases, there is an overarching theme of the characters being
divergent from cultural expectations, the ideal of fatherhood is outlined as symbol of contempt and
abandonment, there is prevalence of both

Beowulf Themes
Beowulf is an epic story that relates well to the time that it was introduced by having the stories of
the epic battles and the defeats of the treacherous monsters that kept everyone entertained during
this era. Not only does Beowulf represent the era well, but it also has very interesting characters,
themes and symbols that help teach us lessons that are very much so needed in today s society.
When Beowulf arrives to the land of the Danes, as soon as they dock and get off of their ship
Beowulf shows his courage instantly by taking the lead and explaining to the guards that watched
out for raiders and enemy ships approaching who they were and where they were from so that they
may advance to the Heorot which he had heard much about. After they get inside Heorot Beowulf
truly shows his courage when he tells Hrothgar about all of the triumphs he had when he was
younger and how when he heard of their problem with Grendel and how he planned to be a match
for him so that he could be the one to bring peace back to Heorot. He also explains how he isn t
afraid of death because if he is going to die it will happen whether he wants it to or not and by
doing this he gives king Hrothgar peace by knowing that he is courageous enough to take on this
challenge and not be afraid by the terror that his people have been facing for the last 12 years.
Not only is Beowulf extremely courageous but he is the mold that hero s model themselves
after he is noble, true to his word and his unquestionable trust in his skills. When Beowulf gets to
Heorot and they begin to feast, Unfearth goes up to Beowulf, and questions the race that he and
Brecca had in the fierce open sea saying that no matter what he had done before that he would
not be able to defeat Grendel because many great warriors had come before him and his fate
would be no different; however, Beowulf has trust in his skills that God has graced him with
just as he did when he raced Brecca in the open sea. By Beowulf saying this, he is letting
Unfearth know that now as well as when he raced Brecca he is the best and will not be beaten.
Beowulf then begins to challenge Unfearth s skills by saying if he was really as courageous as he
has been saying he is, then Grendel wouldn t be

Gerald Ford Address To Nixon Rhetorical Analysis
In 1974, President Richard Nixon announced his resignation. In response to this Vice President
Gerald Ford spoke of his opinion on the situation. Nixon s letter of resignation is a direct effect of
the Watergate scandal, The purpose of these speeches is to make Ford look more trustworthy. After
the Watergate scandal, Nixon was not trusted by the people and congress. In his speech Nixon
announced, it has become evident to me that I no longer have a strong enough political base in the
Congress to justify continuing that effort (Passage 1 Paragraph 2). This describes Congress not
trusting Nixon, because Nixon does not have a strong political base with them. Nixon is sure that,
because of the of the Watergate matter , he won t have the needed support from Congress (Passage
1 Paragraph 5). This describes how the Watergate incident made Nixon untrustworthy, because
Nixon strongly believes the Congress will not support him after the scandal.... Show more content

Ford knows, it is common knowledge that serious allegations and accusations hang like a sword
over our former President s head... (Passage 2 Paragraph 15). This illustrates that Ford is aware
of the fact that Nixon is no longer trusted and believes that Nixon has to resign for the betterment
of the United States. What to do about Nixon is heavily disputed and Ford believes that, only I
can do that, and if I can, I must (Passage 2 Paragraph 14). This shows that Ford knows the situation
will get out of hand and he must get involved and make his executive decision and trust that the

Research Paper: Henry Ford
Imagine how life would be if our society did not have cars. Today, our society is dependent on
cars for our daily routines. From transporting our food, clothes, and technology to just going to the
store across the street, cars are a very important part of our society. In the 19th century, only the
wealthy and upper middle class had access to automobiles, and they only used cars for fancy
transportation and to show off their money. This was due to the extreme prices of cars in the 19th
century. With these high prices not many people could afford them, especially not the working
class. Henry Ford revolutionized the automotive industry in the ... Show more content on

He had his workers work less, with more breaks, and he also payed them almost twice as much as
other jobs. As Eric Foner states, Ford paid the assembly line workers $5 a day when prevailing
wages were about $2.50...he also reduced working hours to 8. With this, workers were more
likely to work harder and better, which led to more productivity. The productivity was not done
alone, the infrastructure of the assembly line is very critical to the production process. This was
done by, as Robert Sobel states, ...conveyor belts in the assembly line that brought parts to the
workers to perform their specific task. All this improved the production rate and it satisfied the
workers. Many may say the assembly line removed individuality, however it brought faster, better,
and cheaper production to the Ford Motor Company.
With the success of the assembly line, Ford was very please however he had a bigger goal set.
Ford wanted to produce cheap cars for the common people to use. Ford made many different
types of cars and experimented with each of them. They were all good but not good enough.
After many different models, Ford achieved his goal with his invention of the Ford Model T. The
Model T was a fully functional compact automobile with a good transmission and torque as well
as comfort and size. Apart from that, the most important aspect of the Model T was that is was
extremely cheap. As Sobel states, ...the model T was only worth $290 in 1924. This was a huge

The President Of The United States Essay
Reflection
What seems like a lifetime ago I took a trip of a lifetime with my mother and two of my children
to Washington D.C. to witness Barack Obama take the oath of President of the United States,
and become the 44th President. Nearly 8 years have passed since my mother and I took 2 of my
children, Austin and Tanner to the Inauguration of Barack Obama, our nation s 1st black
President. Consequently, I have been reflecting back on that experience as we near the final days
of a highly contentious and low brow election cycle. Although 8 years ago I was full of hope for
our country, for my family, for the melding of races as American s had the opportunity to embrace
the true meaning of the words The United States, conversely that is not how I feel today.
Celebrating holidays such as Martin Luther King Jr. s birthday and incorporating Black History
Month activities has always provided opportunities to teach all of my children about the civil
rights movement, how far our nation has come and how changes must continue to attain full
equality. All in all, our nation has made progress towards positive race relations, but then
wannabe thugs call my kids Niggers, and it is like taking 1 step forward and 2 steps back.
Explaining to my children what Bloody Sunday was in preparation to view the movie, Selma, or
trying to explain the murders of Trayvon Martin, and Michael Brown are poignant examples of
why race still matters. While I feel like I m getting better at helping my kids

was a highlight of the Japanese feudal era which made choosing an influential person a

His name was once referenced in a conversation between my second generation Japanese American
friend. I was interested in what she told me about the history of her family back in Japan. I will be

Hideyoshi was believed to born in 1536 in a time of competing daimyo, Japanese samurai lords,
challenging for local and national leadership. Hideyoshi s early life was a natural rags to riches

supervision of his father, Yaemon. His early life is obscure and few stories were told about his
childhood that reflect his future legacy. A story goes that Hideyoshi s mother saw rays of sunlight

Nurse Practitioner As Theorist
Pamela Reed s Practitioner as Theorist describes the Nurse Practitioner as an untapped resource
(Reed, 2008) in the development of unequivocal nursing theories. Reed believes theories and
theorizing (Reed, 2008) are integral to clinical practice, but nurses fail to see commonality between
concepts and patient outcomes (Reed, 2008) hindering knowledge advancement.
Nursing theory development is a direct reflection of changing philosophies within science (Reed,
2008), allowing for explanation of abstract concepts of health as technological advances occur.

Reed believes practiced based nursing, or theories developed in action (Reed, 2008), are capable
of adapting to the complex exchanges between the environment and the health status of patients
(Reed, 2008). Guerilla based theories are unconventional, culturally sensitive (Reed, 2008) and
dedicated to a human cause (Reed, 2008). Guerilla Theorizing utilizes the abilities of nurses to
use abductive reasoning and to act as a bricoleur (Reed, 2008), a French term describing a person
who works with available resources to correct problems, to develop new theories within nursing
practice (Reed, 2008).
Guerilla theorizing is logical as a foundation for nursing practice because it incorporates the
ingenuity of improvisation (Reed, 2008), nursing and contemporary science (Reed, 2008) and input
from both patients and health care employees (Reed, 2008) to develop clinically relevant theories.

Automotive Ignition Systems
Ignition Systems:
New and Old
Jeff Tuttle

Ignitions systems in motor vehicles have evolved in the past thirty years. Points was a simple
concept but was not reliable and needed adjustment and replacement of components seemed
constant. Today a magnetic sensor relays a signal to the computer which in turn sends the voltage to
the selected cylinder to ignite the fuel/air mixture. There are not mechanical parts to fail or become
corroded and brittle. There are many different parts to an ignition system. These parts differ
between modern and old ignition systems. There is a coil. Sometimes one coil provides the
increased voltage to the distributor or there is no distributor at all and each cylinder has its own ...

When the ignition switch is placed in the start position, the solenoid windings are energized and the
resulting shift lever movement causes the drive pinion gear to engage the flywheel ring gear, and
cranking takes place. When the engine starts, an overrunning clutch (part of the drive assembly)
protects the armature from too much speed until the switch is opened. At this time, a return spring
causes the pinion gear to disengage from the flywheel.
The spark plug wire carries 20,000 or more volts from the distributor cap to the spark plug. Spark
plug wires are made of various layers of materials. The fiber core, inside the spark plug wire
carries the high voltage. The older design of spark plug wires used a metallic wire to carry the
high voltage. This caused electrical interference with the radio and TV reception. Some spark
plug wires have a locking connection at the distributor cap. The distributor cap must first be
removed and the terminals be squeezed together, and then the spark plug wire can be removed
from the distributor cap. To reduce interference with radio and TV reception, ignition systems are
provided with resistance in the secondary circuit. Resistor spark plugs or special resistor type
ignition cable may be used. To work effectively in modern ignition systems, it is important that the
resistor ignition cable is capable of producing a specifically designed resistance. The cable must
also have enough insulation so that

Emission Standards of the Diesel Engine
Diesel engines began to be used in automobiles in the 1930s. They are used in many trucks, ships,
buses and small passenger cars in Europe right now.[1] Many believe that diesel engine are heavier,
noisier and generate black smock when running. However, diesel engine s unique advantages can
make them the engine of the future for vehicles. And with much more stringent standard to take
effect in the future, diesel engines emissions and control technologies are still very much in the
forefront. This paper will cover the developments in diesel vehicles emission regulation and control
technology for NOx, particulate matter (PM) for diesel vehicles.
Regulation
Right now there are two kinds of emission standard in US. One of them is federal standards
established by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and another is California standards.
Since the State of California are facing more severe air pollutant problem than most of other state,
they choose to adopt its own emission regulations. The California Air Resources Board (ARB)
establish engine and vehicle emission regulations that are often more stringent than the federal
rules. Other states can make their own decision to either implement the federal emission standards
or to use California requirements.
After the Clean Air Act Amendments (CAAA) on 1990, two sets of standards have been defined
for light duty vehicles. Tier I standard was published in 1991 and was phased in between 1994 and
1997. Tier II standard was

The Testing Of Salivary Biomarkers
Introduction: Although the testing of salivary biomarkers has yet to take hold in clinical settings,
the research surrounding this science is promising. Ideally, in the future, patients will be able to
submit saliva samples to their doctor or dentist to be tested for a variety of conditions which can
be detected based on particular proteins or enzymes, et cetera. The hope is that these tests could
lead to early disease detection and treatment. In this report, you will find the ways in which saliva
can be gathered, as well as the known biomarkers for specific diseases, and the shortcomings and
hopes for research in this field.
Saliva Composition and Function: In this article, author Karthikeyan Murthykumar discusses the
composition of saliva, as well as its ability to protect the mouth, and aid in digestion. The study
performed identified the following details regarding saliva composition and function: Saliva is
excreted through three different glands: parotid, submandibular, and sublingual. It is comprised of
about 99% water, but contains a mixture of ions and proteins, such as sodium, potassium, calcium,
chloride, magnesium, bicarbonate, phosphate, albumin, and some polypeptides. Before saliva is
excreted through the glands, it is isotonic to blood plasma. However, once it exits the ducts of the
glands, it is hypotonic. It is this hypotonicity that allows us to perceive flavor, by then mixing with
ions and dissolving gustin. Gustin is a salivary protein which

Explain The Four Stages Of The Antiwar Movement
Four Stages of the Antiwar Movement in Vietnam The Antiwar movement in Vietnam was a social
movement that occurred from 1960 1970. It was the first mass movement against a war in
American history. This movement consisted of many interests and concerns that eventually led to
unification over the opposition of the Vietnam war. Although one may not visually see different
stages in a movement, often because there is so much happening, but there are four stages within
almost every movement. Emergence, coalescence, bureaucratization, and decline are all seen in
the Antiwar movement against the Vietnam war. The first stage, emergence, occurred in 1964
and 1965. This stage was led by two different groups: left wing activists and college students.
When the war began to grow in 1965, there were two goals that were set in place: to give activists
enough knowledge about Vietnam to be able to draw others into action, and to normalize
opposition, since many Americans were hesitant to go against their own country in a time of war
(Zimmerman 2017). The peace groups educated the press and the public. The students invented a

South America is turning to the left this much is widely known. It is due to the socialist ideas and
values that are very old in the Latin American culture. They can be found, according to Hugo
ChГЎvez, in biblical texts, in the Gospel, and in the practices of our indigenous peoples. The
Bolivarian Revolution that started in Venezuelaunder the presidency of Hugo ChГЎvez has
reignited debate in Latin America and internationally on the questions of socialism and revolution
introducing the reflections on class struggle, neoliberalism, counter power, revolutionary parties,
community and communes, economy, politics, society, race and the hopes, and prospects of what
is called Socialism 21st Century in contemporary South America.
Neoliberalism is the deregulation and expansion of the market economy, it includes eliminating
barriers to trade such as tariffs and government subsidies of national industry, and implementing
national policies that favor the needs of business and investment ( Is Capitalism a good ). This in
turn causes a loss in state revenue, which means a loss in the amount of funding available for social
welfare programs. Neoliberalism became dominant in Latin America, especially in the 1990s,
because of the debt crisis, the availability of highly educated technocrats, a new middle class of
entrepreneurs, the failure of import substitution industrialization, and public support. Most Latin

Rowling did achieve her goal because she made a great book and she managed to become a world
famous author. I really think that J.K. Rowling s writing is powerful and imaginative because she
uses strong and sophisticated words when she is writing also, she doesn t tell she shows. There are
so many strengths that include the vocabulary plus the mix of long and short sentences. I honestly
think that there are no weaknesses for the book because the usage of vocabulary and the idea of the
story itself. I thought that the book is way beyond interesting and moving I thought that it was
captivating, mind boggling and breathtaking. Yes, I would absolutely recommend this book to
others because it there are many different twists in the book.
After the reading the book, my impression was shocked and exhilarated because of the way the
story was wrapped up. I really want the people that haven t read Harry Potter and the Philosopher s
stone to read it!! They should read the book because it is way more than magic it taught me many
things like bravery, courage, perseverance, love and the most important one of all the power of
friendship. Also it really helps me escape the reality and enter the magical world of Harry Potter

In a Barbie World
In A Barbie World! A culture that is saturated by consumerism can be referred to as a consumer
culture. Barbie can be used as a tool for consumer culture because she is perceived to be the
perfect woman, an unattainable achievement. Barbie has the perfect man, Ken; she has her dream
house, and car, and even a dream closet. There are life size Barbies bouncing around in T.V. and
print media ads that personify this image. Barbie produces a systematic reproduction of
consistency; she doesn t evolve but rather promotes change around her. Barbie s face or body

Another example of this is the Cinco de Mayo Barbie. Her traditional attire is the main attraction
and effectively makes her represent Cinco de Mayo celebrations. Another point made earlier is
the variety of items that Barbie has. For example there are several different vehicles that are
Barbie items (pictures below). The appeal of these different vehicles to young consumers is
imbedded in the need to play pretend . Also, children often mimic their parents or older siblings,
not to mention society s images of popular vehicles. The idea here is to provide many options for
a consumer, this way there is at least one item that every consumer can be attracted to. Also it is
important to note that all the vehicles, whether child size or Barbie size, are all a variation of
the color pink. The color connotes femininity and the social gender association is with females.
So although there is a choice on types of products the color choice is limited. According to
about.com and Barbie.everythinggirl.com every second two Barbies are sold somewhere in the
world. The popularity of the doll provides us with some insight to Barbie consumers. They are
willing to conform to ideas of what is socially acceptable for colors of toys specifically for girls;

The Title Of The Architect
The Title of the Architect
When practicing amongst the other members of the project team the architect can be seen to have
the only title that does not explicitly represent what he or she does. Unlike the self explanatory
titles such as the structural engineer or the CDM Coordinator an architect has increasingly struggled
to define what exactly they do, evident from the analysis on the role of the architect which is
predicted to shift the profession from a designers role to a managerial position, resulting in the
architect processing more scope than depth of knowledge. Yet the significance of the professional
title plays a crucial role in ability to for clients to identify what they want and need, especially in the
service sector that architecture falls within. This brings up an interesting situation for the profession
that is shifting in responsibly; if architects change the way that they participate in the building
industry then is their any need for the title architect?
The architect title is represented today by those who have accomplished the Part 3 stage of the
education process as well as registered with the Architectural Registration Board [ARB] .
Established in 1997 as part of the Architects Act, which superseded various other legislation dating
back to 1931 to 1938, which introduced the statutory governing of who could use the title Architect.

Stainless Steel Lab Report Discussion
Analysis The observations during this experiment mean several things. The bubbles around the
materials in the beginning of each trial show that there is a reaction starting to happen. The bubbles
around the stainless steel can mean that, while there was no measurable change in the mass, it is
possible some of the stainless steelwas corroded. This prediction was confirmed in the second trial
when the stainless steel did have a measurable change in mass. The change in color in the water
of the steel shows that a solid precipitate was created. There was also evidence of a precipitate in
the flakes around the steel. Another piece of evidence showing that precipitate formed was the
cloudiness of the liquid around the iron. The reason that the vinegar smell dissipated from the iron
and mild steel is because all of the acetic acid in the vinegar was used up creating what would
have been just water if a precipitate had not formed. The modeof each trial varies for each metal,
and each one shows something different. The modes for Iron in trial one are 0.3% and 0.4%. These
show that they corroded a little, and consistently due to the fat... Show more content on

would be using copper to make the tanks under gas stations. For further experimentation one could
investigate the discrepancy in the mild steel between trials 1 and 2. One could also investigate the
effect of oxidation on how well the metals would work. There is also the possibility of

Essay about Arthurian Features in That Hideous Strength
Arthurian Features in That Hideous Strength
Tales change with every teller. Features may be added or subtracted, stories may be broken apart
or combined. Often the story teller will adapt the tale for his own purposes to emphasize some
theme of his own. C. S. Lewis uses and modifies older sources in many ways in his novel That
Hideous Strength, incorporating themes and portions of Arthurian literature to add color and
emphasize the subjects of his plot.
Lewis includes many direct references to older Arthurian literature in his novel. The leader of his
group of heroes is the former philogist Ransom, at first known as Mr. Fisher King, who has a
wounded foot. The name and the wound are obvious reminders of ... Show more content on

As Cecil Dimble searches for Merlin in the woods, he recalls the ancient houses whose mortar
had been ritually mixed with babies blood (Lewis, p. 233), reminding readers about the early
stories of Vortigern s vanishing tower and the druids plot to destroy the young Merlin by having
his blood spread on the foundation. When Ransom s friendly bear, Mr. Bultitude, destroys the
awful severed head through which the leaders of the N.I.C.E. (National Institute of Controlled
Experiments) receive instructions from the evil eldils, or spirits, Lewis seems to be referring to
Arthur s dream in Geoffrey s Historia where a bear and a dragon fight together. There the bear is
slain, but here he is victorious against the supernatural beast he fights against.
Dreams have been important in much of Arthurian literature, from the Historia of Geoffrey of
Monmouth to Wace s Brut and the alliterative and stanzaic Morte Arthures. In those works, a vivid
dream came to Arthur at some crucial point or points, whether on the way to Gaul, in his camp at
Rome, or in England before his battle with Mordred. In That Hideous Strength, dreams appear not
just at important moments, but regularly. Jane Studdock discovers herself to be a seer, able to
dream of real events either happening or about to happen, and thus supplies important information
to the Pendragon and his companions. Her dreams are more realistic and informative than

The interesting aspect of Lahiri s writing is mainly her dedication to the simplicity of her language,
which at the first sight can seem vague, but there is a precise choice of sentences, descriptions and
even words as West points out: ―Lahiri s prose is both plain and yet simultaneously rich and
evocative (West 259). Lahiri speaks about her preference of plain prose to the interviewer Isaac
Chotiner: I like it to be plain. It appeals to me more. There s form and there s function and I have
never been a fan of just form (Lahiri, Jhumpa Lahiri). She experiments with various narrative voices
in her work, what makes her works even more interesting, because of including a variety of genders,
nationalities and ages. Lahiri compellingly exhibits that all marriages, arranged or not, are unique
and relying on the exertions and the communication of the individuals. A marriage is a knot that
two people tie with love and concern for each other. Communication is one of the most mandatory
ethics of the association. The pair shares their hopes, aspirations, grief and experience of life, but

we found the weight of the graduated cylinder. After that we found the we found the weight of the
10 ml of water by subtracting the weight of the water and the cylinder by the weight of only the
cylinder. We found the volumeof the water by seeing how much the water rises but it did not rise
from 10 ml mark because no object or weight was in the water. The densityof the water is mass
divided by volume. Our volume was 1 ml and our, mass was 9.8g, and after dividing those two
numbers we got a density of .98g/ml. But the density of pure water is 1.0, and the density we got

In Lab 2 part 3 the wt of the 10 ml of salt water and G.C together was 37g about 1g difference from

The Effect Of Television Exposure On The Behavior Of...
Part 1: Outline The Similarities And Differences Between The Studies Bandura et al. (1963)
Hayne et al. (2003)
Introduction
The impact of television exposure is relatively unknown in the recent decades. Therefore, large
number of studies has been considered in order to find out the impact of television exposure on the
behaviour of infants or children. According to the classic studies conducted by Bandura et. al
(1963), the 3 to 5 years children continuously observe the aggressive behaviour of adult. Then they
carry out the same aggressive behaviour in front of children, doll or other toys.
Consequently, children imitate the aggressive behaviour of the actor, and mimic it in the presence
of other children. Comparatively, Hayne et. al (2003) states that 4 to15 month old imitate limited
actions demonstrated by videotaped models. Hence, the focus of this task is on the difference and
similarities between the studies of Bandura et al. (1963) Hayne et al. (2003).

On the opposing side, empiricists believe culture influences learning. Empiricists take the position

A symmetrical face may be an indicator of an individual that is resistant to diseases and able to
maintain normal development ( D.I. Perrett et al.). The goal of makeup is to create a
symmetrical face, because the human face differs slightly from side to side. The more
symmetrical a person s face is the more attractive the person may appear. Makeup can really
change facial features to look more attractive, which is why the makeup industry is so big.
Humans are attracted to those with symmetrical faces around the world no matter the age. For
example, among young and old from North America, Europe, Asia and Africa, studies have shown
there is something about symmetry that makes a person more attractive ( The biological rules of
attraction 2008). Healthy genes are important to reproduce healthy babies. A partner with healthy
genes has a symmetrical face .... symmetry is linked to healthy genes and people who show a
preference for a symmetrical partners enhance their own chances of reproductive success ( The
Biological Rules of Attraction 2008). When looking at biological predispositions humans will
naturally be attracted to certain features because of survival of the fittest. Measures of symmetry in
the human body and face correlates with attractiveness (Perrett et al. 1999). Correlations can lead
scientists to finding out the truth. The biological predisposition to reproduce will influence who
women are attracted to greatly during ovulation. For example, The Biological Rules of Attraction
stated that women s preference for symmetrical men is greatest during ovulation, suggesting the
quality is strongly linked to reproductive fitness (2008). This correlation shows that females are
attracted to men with symmetrical faces because it increases the chance of reproduction. This idea
supports that, as humans, we are ingrained to look for a partner that will increase the

Jainism Is An Environmentally Responsible Way Of Life
Mahavira said, All of life is just like me. I want to live. So do all souls, all living beings. The

honor of determining the success of the movie. Today we will discuss more of what this job
entails, and even how you could get this job for yourself. First let us start off with the job
description. Movie reviewers have the job of watching movies before they even come out. Not
only can they do this for free, but they get paid for this. All they need is a love for movies, a
natural gift for writing, and a degree in journalism certainly helps, though not required. Popular
movie reviewers get to interview top stars, producers, and moved directors. Imagine having the
chance to interview your favorite movie star or director. Now you can imagine the appeal of a
job as a movie. Movie reviewers have both an analytical and creative mind. The analytical part to
judge parts of the movie such as tone, theme, and plot focus. While the creative part determines

The Odyssey Essay
The Odyssey is a Greek word meaning the tale of Odysseus. ; Odysseus, the King of Ithaca;
husband of Penelope; father of Telemachus; and son of Laertes was not able to return home after
the war he was once in: the Trojan War. Stuck on an island, he is presumed dead. In his absence,
suitors for his wife ruin his house with lavish feasts. This epic poem, by Homer, describes how
Odysseus, with the help of the gods, gets home and regains his kingship. Justice is always harsh in
the Odyssey; there is either no justice or a lot of it; the punishment however, is always severe.
Justice in the Odyssey plays out among these characters: Odysseus and his crew, the suitors,

When Odysseus departed from Calypso s island, Poseidon noticed and wrecked havoc using his
powers of the sea: [Odysseus] heard the thunder of surf on a rocky coast. With an angry roar the
great seas were battering at the rocky land and all was veiled in spray. There were no coves, no
harbours, that would hold a ship; nothing but headlands jutting out, sheer rock and jagged reefs ;
(pg. 81 82). Also after the Phaeacians had helped Odysseus, Poseidon punished them for their
kindness to his enemy. Hyperion, the sun god, loved his cattle and told Odysseus and his crew
not to eat them. When the crew was starving, they slaughtered and ate Hyperion s cows.
Hyperion demanded justice from the gods: Father Zeus and you other blessed gods who live for
ever, take vengeance on the followers of Odysseus. . . They have criminally killed my cattle, the
cattle that gave me such joy every day as I climbed the starry sky and as I dropped down from
heaven and sank once more to earth ; (pg. 190). Zeus answered Hyperion and killed all of
Odysseus crew. Aeolus had given Odysseus a large leather bag, which contained the strong winds
that could set them off course. Odysseus crew got curious and opened the bag. All the strong
winds hurried them off course, and they eventually landed back to Aeolus island. They went to
Aeolus and asked for help. However Aeolus was very mad for the crew s carelessness and
demanded that Odysseus and his crew leave the island: Get off this

The Pros And Cons Of Banning The Armalite Rifle
The AR 15 (ArmaLite Rifle) is a modern sporting rifle that has been a main controversy in America
which dominates the gun control conversation. With the mass shootings that occurred in the
previous years, the AR 15 was the dominant weapon used in these tragedies. This semi automatic
rifle is classified by the media as an assault riflein which it is not because the AR 15 is not
automatic. The supporters of banning the AR 15 and Gun Control believe that it will stop mass
shootings from happening, but there is no evidence that banning any assault weapon would prevent
mass shootings. The AR 15 should not be banned because the Second Amendment of the United
StatesConstitution protects individual gun ownership. This weapon is mainly used for hunting and
defense, but banning this rifle will not prevent any more mass shooting from occurring since the

People who are against this rifle being legal often ask supporters of the rifle Is it necessary to
use this weapon outside of military combat? . The AR 15 is one of the most popular rifles of all
time and it is used by many American hunters because of the rifles effectiveness. The AR 15 is
effective when hunting due to the higher magazine capacity and quicker fire power compared
to other standard bolt action hunting rifles. The opposing side would argue that it is not
necessary to have a quicker fire rate for hunters, but the AR 15 is needed for farmers who are
having their farms ruined by wild hogs. Many farmers are losing thousands of acres of crops as
well as money due to a high population of wild hogs. People believe that you should only use a
bolt action rifle, but when there are dozens of wild hogs destroying your crops, it is necessary to
use a semi automatic rifle. The AR 15 in this case would be able to kill many wild animals faster
than a standard bolt action rifle that takes longer to shoot and is less

An Examination of America s Two Party System Essay
An Examination of America s Two Party System
Democracy in the United States is based on the indirect representation of the people by elected
officials who are usually chosen by direct vote. Almost from the beginning of the United States
history, however, two parties have shared the great majority of the elected positions from the local
level to the presidency. However, up until the mid 1850 s when the Republican partywas formed,
other parties such as the Whigs, Federalists, and Anti Federalists did not last very long. The
Democratic Party has existed for much longer, tracing its roots from Thomas Jefferson s Democratic
Republican Party beginning around 1792 (Encarta). The two largest parties have changed, third
parties have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The two party system is said to promote governmental stability because a single party can win a
majority of political offices and, with less bickering between differing and partisan legislators,
govern more efficiently. In a multiparty country, on the other hand, the formation of a government
depends on the maintenance of a coalition of parties with enough total strength to form a political
majority. The weakness of the ties that bind the coalition may threaten the continuance of a cabinet
in power. The stability shown by the government of the United States has not been entirely due to
its party system, it has been argued, but has been promoted also by the fixed tenure and strong
constitutional position of the president, as well as checks and balances built into the constitution to
prevent one branch of federal government from becoming too powerful.
The Founding Fathers of the United States did not mention political parties in the Constitution.
When George Washington left office he warned the country of the baneful effects of the spirit of
party (Crabtree 18). and James Madison believed that the new nation s politics would be structured
around a greater number of factions representing various segments of the electorate rather than the
overwhelmingly bi partisan arrangement that exists today (Barone 64). Others felt they existed only
to manipulate the independent will of the voters. Yet, by the end of

The Ten Steps Of Narcotics Anonymous
rehabcenter.net What are the Twelve Steps of Narcotics Anonymous?
If you are suffering from a drug addiction, you ve likely heard of groups like Narcotics
Anonymous and their dedication to the 12 step process. However, few people really understand
what these 12 steps entail and how they can be used to overcome addiction. Understanding them
can help you decide whether this process is right for you.
What Is Narcotics Anonymous?
Narcotics Anonymous or NA is something of a sister program to Alcoholics Anonymous. It was
founded in 1953 to help people recover from narcotic addiction. However, it has since expanded its
parameters and allows in people with any kind of addiction problems, including heroin, cocaine,
prescription drugs, and even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This isn t true: they are designed to be effective when utilized in any order, meaning you may be
able to make the 10th step before the 2nd. However, most people find that following the steps in
order helps give their life a focus and order that addiction had eliminated. These steps include:
1. We admitted that we were powerless over our addiction; that our lives had become
unmanageable; In this step, you face the reality of your addiction and come to terms with the fact
that your life is out of control. You are preparing yourself to receive the help you need.
2. We came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity; in many
ways, this is one of the most important steps: you are surrendering your fate to a Higher Power in
order to help restore your life to stability. For many people, giving up this control will be a major
challenge.
3. We made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood
Him; giving yourself over to the God of your choice and asking Him for help is a beautiful
moment in the 12 step program and one that will give you the strength to succeed.
4. We made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves; total personal honesty is a must
in this step. You need to grasp the ways that your addiction has changed your behavior and caused
you to behave in ways that may shame you. However, you also need to identify your positive traits
and work towards strengthening

refused to expand the program under the Obama care, and this group is 2.9million of the rest of
the uninsured according to the news report. According to the author, if this group can be covered,
it will greatly cut down the number of the remaining uninsured, although this will be far from
solving the entire problem of the Universal Health Coverage. It is also reported in the news that
even though a large number of the eligible uninsured live in states that have expanded Medicaid
under the ACA, some of the state leaders are not keen in covering their uninsured residents thereby
making it more difficult for their residents to get full coverage. According to Rice et al (2014),
Gaps in the healthcare coverage and problems accessing healthcare insurance coverage by the

The Mystery Of The False Confession In Arthur Miller s The...
The Mystery of the False Confession Noah White Ms. Maney American Literature 12/10/2017
In post 9/11 America, one of the most debated topics is the use of torture and unreliable
interrogation techniques to extract information from suspects. Said use of torture is considered
not only heinous but somewhat notorious for producing unreliable and false confessions. In
Arthur Miller s The Crucible, a spotlight is shined on this topic by the situation of the Salem
Witch Trials in which so called witches are forced to confess to their non existent offenses by
threat of hanging. Considering these points, the question must be asked; why are false
confessions so prevalent and why do they occur? One of the earliest recorded instances of a
false confessions was the confession of Robert Hubert in 1666 after the Great London Fire. The
London fire destroyed thousands of houses, businesses, 87 churches, and killed tens of thousands
of people. And the man who confessed to starting it? A disabled man in a wheelchair who wasn t
even in London on the day that it started. It is speculated that Robert Hubert, after slight
suspicion on behalf of the king, was interrogated or even tortured for a confession. According to
Rob Jones of History of Forensic Psychology, Despite the many obvious flaws and impossibilities
in Hubert s confession, a scapegoat was needed (Jones 1). Only around the 1980 s did psychologists
and other social scientists begin to truly investigate the phenomena of the false

  • 2. Immanuel Kant s Influence On Moral Philosophy The thinking of Immanuel Kant greatly influenced moral philosophy. He thought of moral value as a unique and universally identifiable property, as an absolute value rather than a relative value. He showed that many practical goods are good only in states of affairs described by a sentence containing an if clause, e.g., in the sentence, Sunshine is only good if you do not live in the desert. Further, the if clause often described the category in which the judgment was made (art, science, etc.). Kant described these as hypothetical goods , and tried to find a categorical good that would operate across all categories of judgment without depending on an if then clause. An influential result of Kant s search was the idea of a good will being the only intrinsic good. Moreover, Kant saw a good will as acting in accordance with a moral command, the Categorical Imperative : Act according to those maxims that you could will to be universal law. but should not be confused with the Ethic of Reciprocity or Golden Rule, e.g. Whereas the golden rule states that One should treat others as one would like others to treat oneself, Kant asks us to analyze whether an act can be performed simultaneously by everyone without exception. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That disparity is an exception. The act cannot be performed without exception therefore it fails the categorical imperative. Contrast this with the golden rule which is subjective to the individual. Following the logic of the golden rule, if I wanted someone to kill me, then it would be acceptable for me to kill others, because I would be doing to others what I would want done to me. This is very important to keep in mind, because Kant s categorical imperative avoids this flaw. From this, and a few other axioms, Kant developed a moral system that would apply to any praiseworthy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was exactly the ninth hour of day when she gave me her sweet greeting. As this was the first time she had ever spoken to me, I was filled with such joy that, my senses reeling, I had to withdraw from the sight of others. So I returned to the loneliness of my room and began to think about this gracious person. (La Vita Nuova III) Though The Vita Nuova suggests that she is a real woman , Beatrice hardly has any life outside Dante s own mind. She effects him physically enough ; she makes him sigh , tremble . weep . But she has neither body nor character of her own . She is just a vision , an angel a divine messenger to Dante . Dante doesn t even try to talk to her , even as the story proceeds he becomes incapable of resist on her presence or her sight. She is seen as Dante s salvation in Divine Comedy . Dante considers her as a mirror of Christ , as a saint . He is a man that in love tragically but here is a irony. • 4. The Pros And Cons Of Human Security INTRODUCTION Human security unlike security definition extends to include the many non military threats to harmony and individual dignity. In simple terms it means freedom from fear and freedom from want. It s about protecting citizens from persistent threats, building on their aspirations and strengths, and allowing them the attainment of personal empowerment (UNESCO, 2007). Human security also comprises of protection from natural tragedies along with environmental pollution, global violence, global pandemics, forced manual labour, famine and genocide. However the term human security can be defined in different ways but meaning one and the same for example: Kofi Annan stated that in its broadest sense, human security embraces far more than the absence of violent conflict. It encompasses human rights, good governance, access to education and health care and ensuring that each individual has opportunities and choices to fulfill his or her potential. Every step in this direction is also a step towards reducing poverty, achieving economic growth and preventing conflict. Freedom from want, freedom from fear, and the freedom of future generations to inherit a healthy natural environment these are the interrelated building blocks of human and therefore national security (Kofi Annan, 2000). Similarly Ramesh ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this part of the essay we shall discuss the critic s and advocates side of human security.. For opponents of human security, the idea is just too broad to be logically used as a tool of policymaking. According to one opponent of this issue, Roland Paris, existing definitions of human security tend to be extraordinarily expansive and vague, encompassing everything from physical security to psychological well being, which provides policymakers with little guidance in the prioritization of competing policy goals and academics little sense of what, exactly, is to be studied (Paris 2001: ... • 5. Bebbington on Evangelicalism In the late 1980 s, David Bebbington attempted to define what it meant to be an evangelical in America. He came up with a four part definition. The definition has four criteria and they are: biblicism, conversionism, crucicentrism, and activism. He wished to find a definition that would show what unified different evangelical movements and denominations during his time. Bebbington s definition can also be applied to modern or historic denominations and movements. Bebbington s definition should fit with any church that defines itself as evangelical, but what about a modern non denominational biblechurch meets that definition? Also what does Bebbington s definition say about the pre bible belt Baptist movement in colonial America? If both a modern non denominational bible church and a pre bible belt baptist movement meet the definition set forth by Bebbington, then they should have some meaningful connection. However, that connection between a evangelical church and a evangelical movement is not so clear. Bebbington s four part definition is too wide and accepting to different interpretation to be called meaningful. Each part of his definition needs to be explained and evaluated to see if any meaningful connection between a bible church and the Baptist movement of early souther America have have any meaningful connection under Bebbington s definition of evangelical. Bebbington s definition has four parts. The first part is biblicism. Biblicism is a term which means ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Glass Menagerie And Winnie Holzman And Stephen... Theater has been a platform that has been used to deepen our communication and understanding of the complexities of the world around us. It teaches us through language, movement, and the establishment of intimate relationships that play to the contagious nature of emotions. The majority of the 20th century saw a utilization of plays as a tool to stimulate social change, provoke viewers to assess the foundation of what they believe, and an attempt to depict humanity as it truly was. In comparison, though not totally in abandonment, the later 20th century and early 21th century brought to life a more flashy, commercialized interpretation of this tool, and played to the societal theme of entertainment, as seen in the increase of musical theater (Janaro). A true example of this stark contrast is Tennessee Williamstragedy The Glass Menagerie and Winnie Holzman and Stephen Schwartz s mega musical Wicked. Although from fundamentally different eras and using the employment of distinctive structures that correlate with the different branches of theater, at the core, these stories speak to the same idea of freedom as discussed in the Janaro text. Through assessing the actual elements of these theatrical pieces, there are a lot of similar motifs advanced by both works. In both cases, there is an overarching theme of the characters being divergent from cultural expectations, the ideal of fatherhood is outlined as symbol of contempt and abandonment, there is prevalence of both ... • 7. Beowulf Themes Beowulf is an epic story that relates well to the time that it was introduced by having the stories of the epic battles and the defeats of the treacherous monsters that kept everyone entertained during this era. Not only does Beowulf represent the era well, but it also has very interesting characters, themes and symbols that help teach us lessons that are very much so needed in today s society. When Beowulf arrives to the land of the Danes, as soon as they dock and get off of their ship Beowulf shows his courage instantly by taking the lead and explaining to the guards that watched out for raiders and enemy ships approaching who they were and where they were from so that they may advance to the Heorot which he had heard much about. After they get inside Heorot Beowulf truly shows his courage when he tells Hrothgar about all of the triumphs he had when he was younger and how when he heard of their problem with Grendel and how he planned to be a match for him so that he could be the one to bring peace back to Heorot. He also explains how he isn t afraid of death because if he is going to die it will happen whether he wants it to or not and by doing this he gives king Hrothgar peace by knowing that he is courageous enough to take on this challenge and not be afraid by the terror that his people have been facing for the last 12 years. Not only is Beowulf extremely courageous but he is the mold that hero s model themselves after he is noble, true to his word and his unquestionable trust in his skills. When Beowulf gets to Heorot and they begin to feast, Unfearth goes up to Beowulf, and questions the race that he and Brecca had in the fierce open sea saying that no matter what he had done before that he would not be able to defeat Grendel because many great warriors had come before him and his fate would be no different; however, Beowulf has trust in his skills that God has graced him with just as he did when he raced Brecca in the open sea. By Beowulf saying this, he is letting Unfearth know that now as well as when he raced Brecca he is the best and will not be beaten. Beowulf then begins to challenge Unfearth s skills by saying if he was really as courageous as he has been saying he is, then Grendel wouldn t be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Gerald Ford Address To Nixon Rhetorical Analysis In 1974, President Richard Nixon announced his resignation. In response to this Vice President Gerald Ford spoke of his opinion on the situation. Nixon s letter of resignation is a direct effect of the Watergate scandal, The purpose of these speeches is to make Ford look more trustworthy. After the Watergate scandal, Nixon was not trusted by the people and congress. In his speech Nixon announced, it has become evident to me that I no longer have a strong enough political base in the Congress to justify continuing that effort (Passage 1 Paragraph 2). This describes Congress not trusting Nixon, because Nixon does not have a strong political base with them. Nixon is sure that, because of the of the Watergate matter , he won t have the needed support from Congress (Passage 1 Paragraph 5). This describes how the Watergate incident made Nixon untrustworthy, because Nixon strongly believes the Congress will not support him after the scandal.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What to do about Nixon is heavily disputed and Ford believes that, only I can do that, and if I can, I must (Passage 2 Paragraph 14). • 9. Research Paper Henry Ford Daniel Rodriguez English 10 Mrs. Toman March 29, 2011 Research Paper: Henry Ford Imagine how life would be if our society did not have cars. Today, our society is dependent on cars for our daily routines. From transporting our food, clothes, and technology to just going to the store across the street, cars are a very important part of our society. In the 19th century, only the wealthy and upper middle class had access to automobiles, and they only used cars for fancy transportation and to show off their money. This was due to the extreme prices of cars in the 19th century. With these high prices not many people could afford them, especially not the working class. Henry Ford revolutionized the automotive industry in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He had his workers work less, with more breaks, and he also payed them almost twice as much as other jobs. As Eric Foner states, Ford paid the assembly line workers $5 a day when prevailing wages were about $2.50...he also reduced working hours to 8. With this, workers were more likely to work harder and better, which led to more productivity. The productivity was not done alone, the infrastructure of the assembly line is very critical to the production process. This was done by, as Robert Sobel states, ...conveyor belts in the assembly line that brought parts to the workers to perform their specific task. All this improved the production rate and it satisfied the workers. Many may say the assembly line removed individuality, however it brought faster, better, and cheaper production to the Ford Motor Company. With the success of the assembly line, Ford was very please however he had a bigger goal set. Ford wanted to produce cheap cars for the common people to use. Ford made many different types of cars and experimented with each of them. They were all good but not good enough. After many different models, Ford achieved his goal with his invention of the Ford Model T. The Model T was a fully functional compact automobile with a good transmission and torque as well as comfort and size. Apart from that, the most important aspect of the Model T was that is was extremely cheap. As Sobel states, ...the model T was only worth $290 in 1924. This was a huge ... I grew up in a big city where no one had a car. We either walked, took trams, or subways. At age 16, I got my first job two blocks from my house writing magazine articles. I have traveled to many cities, reporting local news and thus never really got a chance to settle down. • 11. The President Of The United States Essay Reflection What seems like a lifetime ago I took a trip of a lifetime with my mother and two of my children to Washington D.C. to witness Barack Obama take the oath of President of the United States, and become the 44th President. Nearly 8 years have passed since my mother and I took 2 of my children, Austin and Tanner to the Inauguration of Barack Obama, our nation s 1st black President. Consequently, I have been reflecting back on that experience as we near the final days of a highly contentious and low brow election cycle. Although 8 years ago I was full of hope for our country, for my family, for the melding of races as American s had the opportunity to embrace the true meaning of the words The United States, conversely that is not how I feel today. Celebrating holidays such as Martin Luther King Jr. s birthday and incorporating Black History Month activities has always provided opportunities to teach all of my children about the civil rights movement, how far our nation has come and how changes must continue to attain full equality. All in all, our nation has made progress towards positive race relations, but then wannabe thugs call my kids Niggers, and it is like taking 1 step forward and 2 steps back. Explaining to my children what Bloody Sunday was in preparation to view the movie, Selma, or trying to explain the murders of Trayvon Martin, and Michael Brown are poignant examples of why race still matters. Points was a simple concept but was not reliable and needed adjustment and replacement of components seemed constant. Today a magnetic sensor relays a signal to the computer which in turn sends the voltage to the selected cylinder to ignite the fuel/air mixture. There are not mechanical parts to fail or become corroded and brittle. There are many different parts to an ignition system. These parts differ between modern and old ignition systems. When the ignition switch is placed in the start position, the solenoid windings are energized and the resulting shift lever movement causes the drive pinion gear to engage the flywheel ring gear, and cranking takes place. When the engine starts, an overrunning clutch (part of the drive assembly) protects the armature from too much speed until the switch is opened. At this time, a return spring causes the pinion gear to disengage from the flywheel. The spark plug wire carries 20,000 or more volts from the distributor cap to the spark plug. Spark plug wires are made of various layers of materials. The fiber core, inside the spark plug wire carries the high voltage. The older design of spark plug wires used a metallic wire to carry the high voltage. This caused electrical interference with the radio and TV reception. Some spark plug wires have a locking connection at the distributor cap. The distributor cap must first be removed and the terminals be squeezed together, and then the spark plug wire can be removed from the distributor cap. To reduce interference with radio and TV reception, ignition systems are provided with resistance in the secondary circuit. Resistor spark plugs or special resistor type ignition cable may be used. Since the State of California are facing more severe air pollutant problem than most of other state, they choose to adopt its own emission regulations. The California Air Resources Board (ARB) establish engine and vehicle emission regulations that are often more stringent than the federal rules. Other states can make their own decision to either implement the federal emission standards or to use California requirements. The hope is that these tests could lead to early disease detection and treatment. In this report, you will find the ways in which saliva can be gathered, as well as the known biomarkers for specific diseases, and the shortcomings and hopes for research in this field. Saliva Composition and Function: In this article, author Karthikeyan Murthykumar discusses the composition of saliva, as well as its ability to protect the mouth, and aid in digestion. The study performed identified the following details regarding saliva composition and function: Saliva is excreted through three different glands: parotid, submandibular, and sublingual. It is comprised of about 99% water, but contains a mixture of ions and proteins, such as sodium, potassium, calcium, chloride, magnesium, bicarbonate, phosphate, albumin, and some polypeptides. Before saliva is excreted through the glands, it is isotonic to blood plasma. However, once it exits the ducts of the glands, it is hypotonic. Although one may not visually see different stages in a movement, often because there is so much happening, but there are four stages within almost every movement. Emergence, coalescence, bureaucratization, and decline are all seen in the Antiwar movement against the Vietnam war. The first stage, emergence, occurred in 1964 and 1965. This stage was led by two different groups: left wing activists and college students. When the war began to grow in 1965, there were two goals that were set in place: to give activists enough knowledge about Vietnam to be able to draw others into action, and to normalize opposition, since many Americans were hesitant to go against their own country in a time of war (Zimmerman 2017). The bubbles around the materials in the beginning of each trial show that there is a reaction starting to happen. The bubbles around the stainless steel can mean that, while there was no measurable change in the mass, it is possible some of the stainless steelwas corroded. This prediction was confirmed in the second trial when the stainless steel did have a measurable change in mass. The change in color in the water of the steel shows that a solid precipitate was created. There was also evidence of a precipitate in the flakes around the steel. Another piece of evidence showing that precipitate formed was the cloudiness of the liquid around the iron. The reason that the vinegar smell dissipated from the iron and mild steel is because all of the acetic acid in the vinegar was used up creating what would have been just water if a precipitate had not formed.
