Marine Science Application Essay
Re: Application for Staff Scientist Position in Marine Science Dear Dr. Torchin, I am very excited
about the possibility of joining at the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI)) in the
position of Staff Scientist in Marine Science, as advertised in Naturejobs. My research interests fit
extremely well with the requirements of this post and with existing staff scientists associated with
the STRI. I have extensive research experience in the interdisciplinary field of Marine Sciences
(including biological diversity, environmental chemistry, physical sciences, climate change) with
diverse institutions globally (Japan, Germany, Hong Kong, Canada, South Korea, Monaco) funded

I discovered 11 new proteins which are decisive factors in the biological formation of invertebrates.
The functions of proteins allowed us to understand how a huge number of invertebrates interact
with the environment and how they respond to global climate change. Because of my discovery
and outstanding achievements in the doctoral and postdoctoral programs, I received President
Award from the University of the Ryukyus and many awards from international scientific forums.
Using these emerging environmental innovative approaches, I performed whole proteomics
analyses in calcifying marine invertebrates and discovered how and which extracellular proteins
(e.g., ECMP 67) are responsible for making calcite mineral in their skeletons and subsequently
explored how some invertebrates (e.g. octocorals) defy their environments (see http:/
/www.asbmb.org/news.aspx?id=14312 ; http://www.en.uni muenchen.de/news/newsarchiv/2011
/2011_rahman_corals.html ). Throughout my doctoral and post doctoral research programs
following the environmental proteomics approach, I identified key functional new proteins
(including Ca2+ binding and glycosylation proteins), genes and enzyme which are involved in the
biological process of the chemical formation of calcium carbonate skeleton in corals. These findings
are very important for understanding the biodiversity of ecosystems, calcification process,
chemistry of the oceans, and environmental change signals. Using

Speech On Molecular Gastronomy
I What is molecular gastronomy?
A Definition
Ice sphere cocktails, grenadine sirop caviar and disappearing transparent raviolis are all examples
of Molecular gastronomy. This discipline is a mixture of physics and chemistry and is used to
transform the taste and the texture of food. We commonly use the term Molecular Gastronomy in
order to describe a new style of cuisine. Chefs now use tools from the science laboratory, and
unusual ingredients from the food industry to expend their culinary possibilities. Officially, it is the
scientific discipline that explains the chemical and physical transformations and mechanisms that
occur while cooking. It also studies the social, artistic and technical side of gastronomy.

The Effectiveness of the Law in Achieving Justice for Indigenous People
In relation to Australia, the term Indigenous peoples refers to two distinct cultures of people who
inhabited the land prior to European settlement The Aboriginals and the Torres Strait Islanders. This
population declined dramatically over the 19th and early 20th century due to the introduction of
new diseases from European settlement, Government policies of dispersal and dispossession, the
era of protection, assimilation and integration causing a cultural disruption and disintegration of the
Indigenous peoples. In the 20th century the recognition and protection of Indigenous peoples land

They extracted only what was necessary and provided the land with enough time to regenerate. The
Indigenous Australians worked to maintain the fragility of the environment, following the
traditional belief that they were the guardians of the land who were to maintain and preserve it for
future generations.
Aboriginals also had their own system of law based on customs and beliefs, which worked like any
other in resolving disputes, acknowledging family and other relationships and protecting traditions
and beliefs. However, their laws were not documented in writing but rather passed down orally
from elders to children, as well as communicated through art.
Upon settling, the Europeans failed to recognise the Indigenous system of law, as well as the deep
attachment that the Aboriginal people had to the land and the traditional methods of maintaining it
which had been perfected over thousands of years such as fire stick farming. Consequently, the
indigenous Australians were considered a primitive race, with no obvious system of local law, and
Australia was deemed uninhabited land under the doctrine of Terra Nullius thereby, allowing
Britain to claim sovereignty over it

The Year Of 2013 And My Bowling Career
It is the year of 2013 and my bowling career is starting to kick off. In that year, I bowled in a
Saturday morning league that started in the late summer time and ended in early Spring.
Approaching towards the last week of League, I received a letter in the mail stating that I have
qualified for the Illinois State BowlingTournament. Ever since I have bowled this league, I have
made State every single year, but never performed as well as I should have. Hopefully, this will be
the year that I make some scholarship money for my Bowling career when I go to Highland. It
was edging toward the last few weeks of the leagueand now it was time to start making the teams

friends., it was a nightmare. We didn t get to see much but the back of people s heads so we
went back to the hotel and swam in the pool and lied in our beds to watch some television to get
a good night sleep for tomorrows matchup. During my sleep, I had a crazy dream. It was more of
a series of flashbacks to league morning on Saturdays. But anyways, it started with me and my
league team bowling back when I was a little kid. I remembered all of the greatest moments of
my bowling career. All of the splits I have picked up, all of the people cheering for me, all the
high games I ve had was all coming back to me in this dream. The memories all led up to this
moment to be cherished and to be never forgotten. I will never forget that dream. As soon as I
woke up, I was the most energetic kid in the whole neighborhood. My parents would just look at
me like I m crazy but they were probably right, I was getting a little out of hand. Once I was

Change, Innovation, And Sustainability
Change, innovation, and sustainability are common terms in the current global economy.
Organizations need to keep the pace or lead the way to maintain its relevancy in the market and
keep the competition at bay. Thus sustainability is the key to leading by innovation and change, to
improve products and services, in order to remain at the top. Organizations achieve sustainability
when they have the ability to develop, innovate, and implement changes that would lead to long
term success (Froschheiser, 2014). For organizations to implement and commit to the constant
change environment, or organic evolution of change, all stakeholders needto be willing and
informed participants.
Organic Evolution of Change
Creating an organizational mentality of change, is the core of a sustainable organization
(Christensen, 2014). Establishments have been faced with the necessity to transition from the
traditional approach of stability, which ruled previous to the advancement in technology and
globalization, or risk irrelevancy or even destruction (Freytag Hollsen, 2010). Change is provoke
by need. Leadership must identify organizational, stakeholder, and market needs to identify reasons
for change (Bisoux, 2015, Mento, et al, 2002, Simonds, 2013, Todd, et al, 2014, Stanleigh, 2013,
Perlman Leppert, 2013). Identifying organizational strengths and weaknesses would ensure that the
resources needed for the culture of change are available (Peck, et al, n.d.). Once leaders have align

Cultural Assimilation In Things Fall Apart
How can staying true to one s culture benefit them? More often than not, cultural assimilation is
seen as a consequence of migration. And the introduction of the Europeans into the Ibo society is
no different, although in this case, it was more beneficial than detrimental to the Ibo. Enoch, a
character in Chinua Achebe s Things Fall Apart accepts the Western ideas, and changes when his
identity is tested, which evinces that a change in culturehas potential to be advantageous. To begin,
Enoch s response to the conflicting European culture turned out to be positive. One way his
response is empathetic is his acceptance of the new religion. In the novel, this is shown when the
narrator explains, These outcasts, or osu, seeing that the new religion welcomed twins and other
such abominations, thought that it was possible that they would be received (Achebe 155). Enoch
s acceptance of the new religion gave him the chance to start over. Another way Enoch s response
is positive is his willingness to learn and help others grow. The Europeans encouraged the Ibo to
learn their ways, not only in religion but also education. The narrator process this by... Show more

Military Conscription (Persuasive Essay)
Military Conscription
Conscription, or more boldly the draft, has not been in place for some thirty years. While some
people cringe at the thought of reinstating the draft, others have different views. This short paper
will speak of those different views and the reasons why conscription of military service may not be
such a bad idea after all.
Having young men or even women drafted in the military would benefit everyone. The soldiers
would benefit from gaining the knowledge and on the job training for a career when they get out
and the militaries would not be suffering from the shortage of troops as they are today. It is a win
win situation!

You as the parent know you cannot afford to send all the children to college. Wouldn t it be nice
to be able to secure your children s future? If it were a requirement for men and women to join a
branch of the Armed Forces upon graduating from high school, their dreams could become
reality! Young people could receive training and money to go to college and fulfill those dreams.
If the draft were reinstated there would be more troops to support the current crisis in Iraq. There
would also be less turn around of the same troops redeploying to remote parts of the world. Many
soldiers are gone from their families for a year, only to return to remote parts of the world after
being home for a few months.
Think also, the possibility of forcing young criminals between the ages of 18 and 25 to join the
military. Maybe due to joining the military, these young criminals would be reformed into
honorable, self respecting individuals or become leaders of our great nation. In addition, if military
conscription were implemented, the tax payers would not have to pay for the juvenile criminals to
be locked up in maximum or minimum security centers.

issues such as the economy and education. It affects not only individuals but to the United States as

just according to your state. The current minimum wage is not adequate enough for anyone to make

I love God and I believe in the power of prayer. I was raised by a single mother who instilled a
great work ethic, morals and values that will carry me through life. She has taught me to believe
in myself and never let what others think or say about you define you. Life is about choices and
consequences and it is up to you to decide what choices will lead to the right consequences for
you. Growing up without a father who was there to support me was hurtful but I did not become
a victim to my circumstances. My mother taught me that God will remove people out of your
life who will mean you more harm than good. She and my grandmother taught me that
everything happens for a reason even though when it is happening you don t know or
understand why but eventually it will be revealed. I was taught that to get the things in life that
matter to you may cause you to make sacrifices but if you remain faithful you will be rewarded.
God never takes something away from you without giving you back something better in His
timing. There is a time and a place for everything and we must be patient and wait for our time.
All of these values and lessons that I have been taught has prepared me for whatever may come

Heavy Metal Assessment Of Cosmetic Products Essay
Heavy metal assessment of some cosmetic products by ICP/OES
Abstract:
It has been shown that heavy metals toxicity to humans is as a result of long term or high level
exposure to pollutants common in the environment including the air, water, food and numerous
consumer products such as the cosmetics and toiletries. Cosmetics are seen as one of the most
important sources of releasing heavy metals into the environment and the human biological
system. Thus Cosmetic products must not be harmful under normal or foreseeable conditions of
use. Four different samples of cosmetics (Foundation, Kohl, Blusher, and Lipstick) were
analyzed in Al Madina SAES laboratory for water and food analysis to determine the levels of
heavy metals (As, Pb, Zn, Hg, and Cu) in the products. Concentrations of the selected heavy metals
were determined by using inductively coupled plasma/optical emission spectroscopy (ICP/OES).
As and Cu were not found in all samples except in foundation sample found in concentration
0.0056 ppm for as and 0.006116 ppm for Cu, lead ranged between 0.03 0.92 ppm. Mercury ranged
between 0.04 1.49 ppm, and Zinc ranged between 0.026 0.091ppm.

Travels Of A T-Shirt In The Global Economy Summary
Pietra Rivoli, the author of The Travels of a T Shirt in the Global Economy, utilized her personal
investigation of how the t shirt was created (Rivoli, X). By her putting herself in the different
locations where the shirt process is made, truly provides an eye opening view on the situation.
Rivoli saw how researches would simply collect statistical data but not have personal observations
on what was happening. There are many people who are looking at sweatshops from afar and
assuming only negative aspects about them. Granted, while sweatshops by all means are not a
luxurious work environments, there are components that the economic and politic data is not able
to fully capture. Throughout Rivoli s book, there is the central theme that poorer countries could
be relatively improved by the opportunities that they are provided with the jobs in the process of

There are women who are forced to work everyday of the week at long hours and earning a low

seem to be nonexistent. With that being said, Rivoli presents the other side of what will occur
as the result of globalization. One outlook could be from a business one: the shirts are cheaper
because there is more work that is being down, the consumers will be pleased that they do not
have to pay more for their shirt (90). However, a critic might look at the conditions that the people
who were at the factors had to face and see that they were denied justice and their personal rights
(90). Rivoli does not state which side she stands on, instead she questions the reader to develop

The Spread and Localization of Buddhism and Islam into...
The spread of religion first began through contact with neighbouring countries which gradually
expand throughout the years. Buddhism and Islam are one of the most widespread religions across
Southeast Asian countries like Burma, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Thailand and
Vietnam. Trade merchants and imperial support of the religion were major factors in the facilitation
and localization of the spread of Buddhismand Islamwithin Southeast Asia. However, there were
also limitations presented which hindered the development of each religion in within their
countries as introduction of newer religions and changes to political and imperial power would
have affected the progression to become fully localised pre 1800s.

This facilitated the increasing practice of Buddhism in Southeast Asia attributable to influences
from foreign Buddhist merchants to the nations thus integrating itself into civilization and daily life
(Adler and Pouwels 2008, 64).
Imperial support played a major part in facilitation and localisation of the spread of Buddhism
into Southeast Asia. Asoka, as mentioned, was a big supporter of Theravada Buddhism and was
deemed an exemplar for future Buddhist emperor to establish Buddhism as a part of the country s
traditions and lifestyle (Swearer 2010, 71). He believed that true conquest of a country was by the
force of the teachings of religion (Swearer 1997, 89). Through his persistent method of conquest,
he influenced several Theravada Buddhist rulers like King Kyanzittha of Pagan, Burma and King
Tilokaraja of Chiang Mai, Thailand during 11th and 15th century respectively to position Buddhism
as a part of their reign, conquest and authority (Swearer 2010, 71). This significantly enabled the
localization of Buddhism into Southeast Asia especially in countries like Thailand who remains
supportive of Buddhism as declared by the Chakri dynasty from the end of 18th century onwards
(Bowker 2007, 150). It was through the support of imperial power that led the countries citizens to

Haraway’s A Cyborg Manifesto Essay
Donna J. Haraway s A Cyborg Manifesto
Haraway s provocative proposal of envisioning the cyborg as a myth of political identity embodies
the search for a code of displacement of the hierarchical dualisms of naturalized identities (CM,
175), and thus for the breakdown of the logic of phallogocentrism and of the unity of the Western
idealized self.
Haraway defines the cyborg as a cybernetic organism, a hybrid of machine and organism, a creature
of social reality as well as a creature of fiction (CM, 149). Her argument is introduced as an effort
to build an ironic political myth faithful to feminism, socialism, and materialism (CM, 149). She
claims blasphemy and irony as her vantage tools. Blasphemy invokes the seriousness of ... Show

Cyborgs are technological constructs and thus deny the logic of reproduction; they rather mock the
masculinist reproductive dream (CM, 152). They have no memory of a primary state of innocence;
they conceive of no Father s saving through the restoration of a garden they don t recognize the
Garden of Eden in that they do not re member the cosmos (CM, 151). As they build no sense of
community on the model of the organic family, they live outside the oedipal project they are wary
of holism, but needy for connection (CM, 151). Though the offsprings of militarism, patriarchal
capitalism and state socialism, they are illegitimate offsprings and thus unfaithful to their origins.
The late twentieth century scientific culture in the United States has experienced three crucial
boundary breakdowns:
the boundary between human and animal is thoroughly breached the boundary between human and
machine has become leaky and ambiguous the boundary between physical and non physical has

Facial Recognition Pros And Cons
Facial recognition is a technological product of the digital age that is continuing to evolve. The
efficiency of the technology is an asset to crime detectives apprehending criminals, or the
government tracking suspected terrorists for the safety of the country. It can also be used on a
corporate level to allow a business to understand their ideal customer, or to increase the
intractability of their website. While these abilities are positives to the people using them, the data
collection may be harming more than it is helping. Considering the benefits of facial recognition, it
is important for people to see what they are giving up for a more efficient experience. Facial
recognition technology forces users to relinquish control of their own... Show more content on

Over the course of this past year, body cameras are becoming increasingly popular with police
officers in the United States. This is in response to the public s outrage with unlawful police
force. Recently, companies that manufacture such bodycams announced plans to include facial
recognition software. The data collected from the cameras would be in the hands of the police for
a minimum of 18 months, depending on the incident recorded (Chapman). While this could
initially be seen as a positive method to identifying and arresting an active suspect, there is a
question of privacy of control when it comes to this matter. This is an invasion of privacy for the
citizens caught on camera that are not involved in an incident nor have a criminal record. These
cameras are often worn during protests, both peaceful and not, capturing everyday citizens
speaking their thoughts and ideas. A concern that exists is if the police will use the data collected
from the cameras to unlawfully monitor participants (Chapman). This would inevitably discourage
participation in these gatherings and take control from peaceful citizens and give too much control
to police officers. There is also no guarantee that the footage will not be used for other purposes
that the public is not yet aware of. There is no U.S. federal law at the moment that directly protects
the privacy of American citizens from the potential surveillance using facial recognition,
(Chapman). The fact that there is no balancing system for the rights of United States citizens may
lead law enforcement to take advantage of their freedom and use the technology inappropriately and
excessively. The development of this technology is growing so quickly that legislature has not

Outcome 1: Understand the importance of diversity, equality and inclusion
1. Explain what is meant by:
Diversity In the literal sense the word diversity means different. Through diversity we recognise the
uniqueness of the individual and value these differences. Diversity can consist of factors which
include personal characteristics such as background, culture, personality and work style. However,
certain characteristics are protected under discrimination such as gender, sexuality, religion,
ethnicity, disability and age.
Equality Equality is about creating a fairer society, where everyone can participate and has the ...

The Blue Badge parking scheme is organised by the local council and Llanerchrugog Hall is a
participant; the scheme allocates permits for parking spaces that are often wider and closer to the
destination e.g. supermarket entrance. This scheme promote equality by addressing the needs of
those with disabilities that effect their mobility and by participating in the scheme we are making
a conscious effort to bring service user s needs in line with able bodied people who can walk
longer distances. Inclusive practice can support diversity through a variety of means from the way
kitchens operate by including kosher and halal meats, to the facilitation of prayer space for
colleague/service user religious beliefs.
Outcome 2: Be able to work in an inclusive way
1. Explain how legislation and codes of practice relating to equality, diversity and discrimination
apply to own work role
I generally believe in treating all people as I would like to be treated, with respect and courtesy; as
a carer I regularly deal with two different groups of people service users and colleagues. A

Analysis Of `` House Of Sand And Fog `` By Andre Dubus IIi
Alienation Throughout the novel House of Sand and Fog by Andre Dubus III, the recurring
theme of alienation takes its toll on the lives of the two main characters: Kathy and Behrani. We
see how the isolation of both characters not only has an effect on them, but also on the lives of
others who matter most to them. Alienation is the act of being withdrawn or isolated from a life
in which one is accustomed or should be accustomed to. The incidents of alienation
demonstrated in the novel include, the relationship between each character and their families,
Behrani and his family being forced out of their home country and living in America, and Kathy
getting evicted from her family house. As we see these events occur throughout the book, we
also learn that both characters will do whatever it takes to claim ownership of what they both
call home. This drawn out battle over a piece of property ends up putting Kathy along with
Lester behind bars, and with Behrani losing his son in the process. Dubus illustrates many scenes
where both Kathy and Behrani isolate themselves from their families. For example, when Kathy
is at the motel reminiscing of her phone calls with her mother, we see how Kathy alienates
herself from her family when she notes how after Nick left, she would start lying about how well
he was doing at his new job and how this used to be true (44). By not telling her mother that Nick
had left her, this demonstrates a clear example of her seclusion from her

Simulacra And Simulation By Jean Baudrillard
In Jean Baudrillard s text Simulacra and Simulation , Baudrillard argues that repeated simulation
of a depiction over time causes a loss of the original thing that was copied and eventually the
copied thing replaces original; he coined this notion the Simulacra. Baudrillard notes That
eventually in contemporary times, the referent disappears altogether and people come to live in
pure simulations, replications of reality that resemble it in all respects save they are
representations...1 . Such disappearance and replacement of the original is seen in John Ajvide
Lindqvist s gut wrenching novel Let the Right One In in which attempts to simulate the role of a

Repeated use of simulation to replace the original leads to alteration of the original and people
eventually live in a simulation of the real. Baudrillard s description of this transformation from
the Simulation to the Simulacra is heavily observed from the book s deviation of the vampire s
association with religious characteristics and therefore a loss in the characteristics from the
traditional is seen. The transformation of the simulation of an image to the simulacra is
described in the following stages: 1. It is a reflection of a basic reality. 2. It masks and prevents a
basic reality. 3. It masks the absence of a basic reality. 4. It bears no relation to any reality
whatever; it is its own pure simulacrum. 1 The first stage is where a somewhat perfect copy of
the original is made the representation is of the order of sacrament or the original is preserved.
The second stage is where reality is altered, this is the pain where the sign becomes an unfaithful
copy which masks reality. In this stage, signs and images do not reveal reality, but hint at the
existence of a reality. The third stage is where there is a complete disconnect from the real. The
sign pretends to be a faithful copy or the original, they attempt to be passed along as the real.
Finally, in the fourth stage a pure simulacrum is observed the new image or

Being passionate is a characteristic one may hope to never lose. In the excerpt from South of

2. Choose and discuss two theoretical perspectives used to analyze gender inequality
3. Make sure to compare the perspectives and choose which one you align yourself with Kerbo
(1994) refer to gender as the socially constructed definition of what it mean to be female or male.
Sex and gender are two separate terms. Sex refers to the biological characteristics. However,
gender is completely different. Gender is socially constructed not biological. For example many
times when a baby is born male, others would say things like he s going to be strong or
aggressive. These behaviors are usually associated with male characteristics. Society places
different types of behaviors, roles and expectations on females and males. There are various types
of gender inequality. For example, there is gender inequality in work, income, occupation, and
education. Work and gender is can greatly impact individuals. The work that men and women does
has a great significant impact on their status in society. Female are more associate with home base
work, while men are associated with high status work that pays. However, many of the work that
women does are seen in relation to their husbands. Another, type of gender inequality is in relation
to income. There is gap with income between men and women. However in recent years, that gap
has begun to narrow. In many societies, men are paid more than women. In addition,

The Evolution Of Wordless Societies Essay
The Evolution of Wordless Societies: From Ancient Egypt Hieroglyphics to Emojis Pictures have
been around long before words as a means of communicating. From ancient to modern
civilizations, pictures and symbols have been used to convey messages and capsulize the history
and culture of the society. Terms like hieroglyphics and emojis refer to systems of writing in which
pictures and symbols represent ideas and sounds. This paper will examine four writing systems of
ancient and modern societies that utilize pictures. Each of the writing systems used pictures along
with letters. In some societies, pictorial uses were reserved for the society s elite, but recently, the
use of pictures as primary text has become more main stream. Throughout time, society s use of
pictures and symbols has transitioned from a more formal to informal method of written
communication, however, it has still maintain its primary purpose.
Ancient Egypt Hieroglyphics was one of the first writing systems to employ pictures.
Hieroglyphics was derived from the Egyptian expression god s words. First developed in Egypt
around 3000 B.C., the system continued to be used for inscriptions on monuments, wall paintings,
and religious texts until the A.D. 300s. (Wallenfels 160) Early inscriptions of this artistic writing
form can be found in a group of seals bearing the names of early Egyptian kings, pyramid Texts,

The Effect Of Calcium On The Reaction Of Hydrogen Peroxide

The iodine can be detected by its colour forming a blue black solution. The detection of the iodine

The nature of the slow step is not obvious from the balanced equation. The order of reactions

Managerial Auditing Journal, Vol. 17 Iss: 5, pp.277 282
The article, The need for change in the way we teach accounting information systems , by Roger
K. Doost, seeks to address the issues of how teachers and Universities are behind the power curve
when it comes to teaching the Accounting Information Systems (AIS) course. He argues that
lectures out of the textbook will no longer be beneficial if instructors do not include hands on
training going forward. The emphasis on database and database management should be
supplemented with relevant software and teaching material to make the course more meaningful
and the efforts more fruitful . (Doost, 2002). This article is to illustrate how the incorporation of
Microsoft Access into the AIS course provides an excellent demonstration into application and
utility of database management systems. In the introductory section of this article, Doost
elaborates on the many reasons why some of his fellow colleagues are having a rather difficult
time teaching the AIS course effectively. He stated that in the past, Universities employed
professors based on their interest in the course or having experience in the AIS field. With that
being said, some professors can teach a course outside of their professional fields of study. The
ideal professor to teach this subject matter is one who has adequate graduate work in the areas of

How Did The Spanish American War Cause Ww2
During his presidency William McKinley said, War should never be entered upon until every
agency of peace has failed. His message never fully reached the American people because in the
late 19th century the people were longing for an opportunity to keep up with other empires and
they took the first chance they approached. They saw war with Spain as a quick way to prove
supremacy and saw plenty of benefits. The Spanish American war was inevitable for America
because the people had a strong drive for global power and influence and although it was not
completely necessary it resulted in positive outcomes and later greatly helped progress the country.

Americans were caught up in ideas to develop global dominance and when they heard about the
tribulations that Spain was causing they used it to take action and start a war that they could
easily win and gain veneration and intimidation from. The Spanish American war was one of the
shortest wars in American history but it changed the fate and global status of America forever.
After the sinking of the battleship in Havana, McKinley was still reluctant to use harsh force
against Spain even though he received pressure from newspapers including New York Journal
calling him weak and a petty politician for not yet getting involved. On April 9, 1898 congress
officially gave the president power to order troops into Cuba. Theodore Roosevelt was the
Secretary of the Navy and a highly regarded member of the government, his encouragement to

If a government leader is caught stealing the intellectual property of another, what does that say

likely, that candidate or politician doesn t have much intellectual property of their own to begin
with. And if it s not their own words and their own work, then who is it that s really running the

Autonomy Against Spain
In Negotiating Spain and Catalonia: Competing Narratives of National Identity, author Fernando
Leon Solis examines the various motivational factors for Catalonia s push for autonomy within
Spain. The author makes a compelling case as to how and why Catalonia is attempting to gain
autonomy. Solis believes that the main motivation for Catalonian autonomy is the conflict over the
definition of Catalan identity, which, Catalans believe, can only fully be established under regional
autonomy. Solis argues that if the Catalan National political party, Convergencia I Unio, can come
to an agreement with the majority party in parliament, Partido Popular, then Cataloniamay receive
regional autonomy. Additionally, Solis believes that the Catalans are not seeking national

Lesson number three is it is better to be a fox than a hedgehog . On the book, Silver expands this
idea and notes that a fox know many things because it s likely to intensely question itself and
gather information from a variety of sources. A hedgehog, on the other hand, will be more likely
to rely on a single source of conventional wisdom. This idea encourage us to be resourceful like a
fox, so we can be a more valuable contributor during the collaborative process. Collaboration is
typically understood as a process in which multiple people provide input .However, collaboration
can also be performed on an individual basis by collecting the information we need to shape to
temper our projections and plans.
Lesson number four is polls become more accurate the closer you get to the Election Day . This
idea encourage us to continually update our forecast especially when we are approaching a decision
point. The farther into the future you forecast, the less accurate your forecasts are likely to be. The
closer you can update your forecasts to the point of decision, the more you improve your chances
for accuracy. But, we need to notice if we wait too long to share our forecasts in order to ensure
maximum accuracy, then we are defeating the purpose of the forecasting process. The optimal time
to commit to a forecast is when a decision has to be made based on that forecast. For example, a

after this horrendous crime that George Franklin was found guilty. He was guilty of first degree
murder. This case gained attention because it was the first case ever to determine a man s fate
based off of the resurfacing of repressed memory.
Eileen Franklin, George Franklin s daughter, recalled having a flashback of her best friend,
Susan s murder. It was the look in her daughter s eyes that triggered this memory. She contacted the
authorities and shortly after she found herself testifying against her father.
Her testimony of this was, I saw my father approaching Susan, his ... Show more content on

I screamed. I yelled...I heard two blows (ChicagoTribune,1990)
There was a division amongst psychologists and psychiatrists. Some believed that there was no
physical evidence to show that Eileen s recovered memory was true. However, others believed that
this crime was too traumatizing for Eileen and resulted in repressing this particular memory.
But how could she completely block this memory for 20 years? Franklin Lipsker testified that
she repressed the memory for 20 years because her dad threatened to kill her too
(ChicagoTribune,1990). Ultimately, George Franklin was convicted to life in prison. But this case
took a turn when 6 years after his imprisonment, he was a free man. Due to DNA evidence,
George Franklin s name was cleared, and he walked out of prison.
Repressed Memory
In my opinion, recovering very traumatic memories, can be caused by finding yourself in a
similar situation. Perhaps even experiencing certain feelings can lead to recovering any
repressed memories. If a repressed memory is recovered I don t believe you view the world the
same way you once did. How do you live in peace after recalling being present when a murder has
been committed?
Or being a victim of sexual

Telstra Swot Analysis
Telstra s investment projects during 2015 provide an indication of strong leadership and a bright
future for Telstra. In June 2015 Telstra launched Australia s largest wifi network Telstra Air, which
gives telstra home broadband customers the power to use their data allowance and go online at
thousands of hotspots in Australia and millions of hotspots overseas. This is an expensive
investment, contributing to the decline in fixed product revenue (decline 1.9%). However, it will
increases customers value and distinguishes telstra from other telecommunication providers. Telstra
also formally launched Telstra Health, a provider of integrated eHealth solutions. This investment
utilises Telstra s existing strength in connectivity, allowing people who live remote or work during
business hours to talk to a GP via video conference or phone call. Telstra health has contributed 78
million dollars worth of income in the 2014 15 year. This profitability, along with increased
diversity, creates many growth opportunities for Telstra. To run a successful business it is important

Although the 2015 annual report reports a total dividend of $0.35 composed of the 2015
interim dividend of $0.15 paid on 27 March, and the 2015 final dividend of $0.155 paid on 27
August, this final dividend has not yet been paid as of 30 June 2015. Therefore, the total
dividend of $0.30 used in this calculation is comprised of the final dividend of 2014 paid at 26
September 2014 equal to $0.15, and the 2015 interim dividend. Since both of these dividends were
not paid at the end of the 2015 financial year, an inevitable shortcoming in the use of these

Tragic Events That Can Alter Life Style
How do people really cope with tragic events that can alter their life style? The loss of a loved
one, being laid off from work, serious sickness, terrorist attacks and many other horrific events are
examples of difficult experiences we could face in our lives. Many of which will respond quite
differently through each event they may encounter. This is to include strong emotions and at times
they will tend to feel uncertainty. However, over time people will typically overcome these life
changing events and stressful situations. What helps people to combat these circumstances?
According to Baumgardner and Crothers (2009), resilience is a process individuals go through to
face tragedies, trauma and stress in general. What if I told you it is... Show more content on

Telling myself I can accomplish anything and that the horrific things I went through should not
define me. Not to mention, that I can do so much more in life because I went through something
so horrendous. Continuing through this hardship I started reverting to times of tragedies where
all I did was make excuses for and realize there may have been a purpose for it. There may have
been something that can t be explained that occurred at the right time in my life because I
started to give up on myself. It dawned on me that there is more to this world that I am obligated
to do something with my life. You just need a wakeup call or something to happen to you that
will spark that motivation deep down. My motivation was to make sure I did not let my best
friend down. I want my best friend to be proud of me. I would want him to see this Brandon. It
wasn t until several months later that I realized I needed to stop talking to myself and start
listening to myself because I can tell myself a lot of things I want to hear. However, there is a lot
of things I should tell myself because it could take me out of low times. My dreams could take
me through low places in life if I had something to focus on, a purpose, the mentality to push
through these rough times. Staff Sergeant Rex was my promise. Rex was a person that I was

Essay On The First To Vanish
The First to Vanish Christopher Mulholland had a long day on the first day of his tour in Bath,
halfway through the tour it was canceled due to a storm coming in. It was getting late, the wind
was howling, and the storm clouds he heard about could be seen in the distance. He held tightly
onto his luggage as he walked down a deserted road. There was only one other person than him
on the road and he was heading for his home. Hey, can you please help me, I need to find a place
for the night, Christopher asked as h caught up to him, and it started to drizzle. Ah, why not try
the Bell and Dragon, it was newly built not to long ago, it s just down the road, or if you don t
want to be in the rain for much longer, you can try one of the Bed and... Show more content on

They both stopped and she turned and said, Only you so far. Christopher barely noticed but she
studied him. She started heading back up the stairs and Christopher followed. Now this is your
room, she said as she opened a door on the third floor, I do hope you like it Mr. Perkins, is it
Perkins? No, it s Mulholland, and thank you, the room is lovely, Christopher said as he walked
in and studied the room. He set his luggage down and started unpacking. When your done, please
come down and sign the book Mr. Mulholland, the landlady said as she left the room. A few
minutes later, Christopher made it back down to the lobby. He started thinking that she was a
bit dotty as he reached the book. He opened it up and signed it, noticing he was the first one to
write a name down. Suddenly, a colorful parrot flew down the stairs and landed in a birdcage.
The parrot startled Christopher so much, he almost fell backwards. Hello, Hello, the parrot
squawked at Christopher. Hello little parrot, he whispered with a smile. So I see you met my
little parrot, Ginger, the landlady said as she came into the room with a silver tea tray. She came
over and sat the tray down onto the table. Oh, I have a question, Christopher said as he turned
around and saw her already pouring out some tea. Why is my name the only name in the book?

Evaluate the Role of Chemical Transmitters in Explaining Behavioural Disorders
All behaviour is provided by the nervous system from a blinking eye to talking. Everything we do
relies on the integration of numerous processes within the body, which is controlled by the nervous
system (Atkinson et al. 1990). It wasn t until the late 19th Century with the development of stronger
magnifying lenses and staining techniques that the nervous system could be looked at in detail
(Wickens, 2005). The integrating units of the nervous system are specialized cells called neurons.
There are approximately 1 billion neurons in a human brain. What makes them more astonishing is
that each single neuron is connected with around 10,000 others (Wickens, ... Show more content on

Furthermore Parkinson s disease, which is associated with a depletion of dopamine display
behaviours characteristic of schizophrenia when given too much L DOPA, a dopamine stimulant
(Gershon, Angrist, and Shopsin, 1977 as cited in Kalat, 1992). In addition if schizophrenics are
given drugs such as L DOPA their symptoms are heightened. (Kalat, 1992).
On the other hand there are problems with the dopamine hypothesis, as it suggests that
schizophrenics have an excess of dopamine in their brains. Deakin, 1988, as cites in Wickens,
2005, found little evidence for this following post mortems of schizophrenics. However a
number of studies have found that schizophrenics have an increase of dopamine D 2 receptors
(Jaskiw and Kleinman, 1988 as cited in Wickens, 2005) therefore it may be that increased uptake
by receptors is responsible rather than an excess of dopamine. This gives rise to cause and effect,
as is the schizophrenia caused by an increased number of receptors or is the increased number of
receptors a result of antipsychotic drugs.
The main criticism of an imbalance of neurotransmitters being the cause of schizophrenia is the
finding that antipsychotics block receptors within a day or two, although it takes several weeks for
them to take full affect (Wickens, 2005). This suggests that the key factor in improvement is not the

BODY
MAIN POINT #1: Definition
Volunteering is time willingly given for the common good and without financial gain.
(www.volunteeringaustralia.org, n.d.) .
Volunteering should not be used as profit, or be used to replace paid employees.
Activism can be considered volunteering. This definition is aligned to the current UN position on
volunteering... (www.volunteeringaustralia.org, n.d.) as stated in their website.
MAIN POINT #2: Benefits
We as volunteers will be assisting in finding ways for the organization to fulfill its mission. We all
get to learn new things everyday from volunteering.
Here are some examples of volunteering work I have done in the past.
I was a co chair for Rocky Mountain Deaf School building committee. Couple of volunteers and I
participated in a peaceful activism involving a property for the new school building. There was a
protest from the neighbors opposing the deaf school on the property. If our activism didn t happen,
we wouldn t build our school building on our current property

  • 2. Marine Science Application Essay Re: Application for Staff Scientist Position in Marine Science Dear Dr. Torchin, I am very excited about the possibility of joining at the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI)) in the position of Staff Scientist in Marine Science, as advertised in Naturejobs. My research interests fit extremely well with the requirements of this post and with existing staff scientists associated with the STRI. I have extensive research experience in the interdisciplinary field of Marine Sciences (including biological diversity, environmental chemistry, physical sciences, climate change) with diverse institutions globally (Japan, Germany, Hong Kong, Canada, South Korea, Monaco) funded by competitive fellowships and external research... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I discovered 11 new proteins which are decisive factors in the biological formation of invertebrates. The functions of proteins allowed us to understand how a huge number of invertebrates interact with the environment and how they respond to global climate change. Because of my discovery and outstanding achievements in the doctoral and postdoctoral programs, I received President Award from the University of the Ryukyus and many awards from international scientific forums. Using these emerging environmental innovative approaches, I performed whole proteomics analyses in calcifying marine invertebrates and discovered how and which extracellular proteins (e.g., ECMP 67) are responsible for making calcite mineral in their skeletons and subsequently explored how some invertebrates (e.g. octocorals) defy their environments (see http:/ /www.asbmb.org/news.aspx?id=14312 ; http://www.en.uni muenchen.de/news/newsarchiv/2011 /2011_rahman_corals.html ). Throughout my doctoral and post doctoral research programs following the environmental proteomics approach, I identified key functional new proteins (including Ca2+ binding and glycosylation proteins), genes and enzyme which are involved in the biological process of the chemical formation of calcium carbonate skeleton in corals. These findings are very important for understanding the biodiversity of ecosystems, calcification process, chemistry of the oceans, and environmental change signals. Using ... A Definition Ice sphere cocktails, grenadine sirop caviar and disappearing transparent raviolis are all examples of Molecular gastronomy. This discipline is a mixture of physics and chemistry and is used to transform the taste and the texture of food. We commonly use the term Molecular Gastronomy in order to describe a new style of cuisine. Chefs now use tools from the science laboratory, and unusual ingredients from the food industry to expend their culinary possibilities. Officially, it is the scientific discipline that explains the chemical and physical transformations and mechanisms that occur while cooking. However, their laws were not documented in writing but rather passed down orally from elders to children, as well as communicated through art. Upon settling, the Europeans failed to recognise the Indigenous system of law, as well as the deep attachment that the Aboriginal people had to the land and the traditional methods of maintaining it which had been perfected over thousands of years such as fire stick farming. • 7. Change, Innovation, And Sustainability Change, innovation, and sustainability are common terms in the current global economy. Organizations need to keep the pace or lead the way to maintain its relevancy in the market and keep the competition at bay. Thus sustainability is the key to leading by innovation and change, to improve products and services, in order to remain at the top. Organizations achieve sustainability when they have the ability to develop, innovate, and implement changes that would lead to long term success (Froschheiser, 2014). For organizations to implement and commit to the constant change environment, or organic evolution of change, all stakeholders needto be willing and informed participants. Organic Evolution of Change Creating an organizational mentality of change, is the core of a sustainable organization (Christensen, 2014). Establishments have been faced with the necessity to transition from the traditional approach of stability, which ruled previous to the advancement in technology and globalization, or risk irrelevancy or even destruction (Freytag Hollsen, 2010). Change is provoke by need. Leadership must identify organizational, stakeholder, and market needs to identify reasons for change (Bisoux, 2015, Mento, et al, 2002, Simonds, 2013, Todd, et al, 2014, Stanleigh, 2013, Perlman Leppert, 2013). And the introduction of the Europeans into the Ibo society is no different, although in this case, it was more beneficial than detrimental to the Ibo. Enoch, a character in Chinua Achebe s Things Fall Apart accepts the Western ideas, and changes when his identity is tested, which evinces that a change in culturehas potential to be advantageous. To begin, Enoch s response to the conflicting European culture turned out to be positive. One way his response is empathetic is his acceptance of the new religion. In the novel, this is shown when the narrator explains, These outcasts, or osu, seeing that the new religion welcomed twins and other such abominations, thought that it was possible that they would be received (Achebe 155). Trade merchants and imperial support of the religion were major factors in the facilitation and localization of the spread of Buddhismand Islamwithin Southeast Asia. However, there were also limitations presented which hindered the development of each religion in within their countries as introduction of newer religions and changes to political and imperial power would have affected the progression to become fully localised pre 1800s. This facilitated the increasing practice of Buddhism in Southeast Asia attributable to influences from foreign Buddhist merchants to the nations thus integrating itself into civilization and daily life (Adler and Pouwels 2008, 64). Imperial support played a major part in facilitation and localisation of the spread of Buddhism into Southeast Asia. Asoka, as mentioned, was a big supporter of Theravada Buddhism and was deemed an exemplar for future Buddhist emperor to establish Buddhism as a part of the country s traditions and lifestyle (Swearer 2010, 71). He believed that true conquest of a country was by the force of the teachings of religion (Swearer 1997, 89). Through his persistent method of conquest, he influenced several Theravada Buddhist rulers like King Kyanzittha of Pagan, Burma and King Tilokaraja of Chiang Mai, Thailand during 11th and 15th century respectively to position Buddhism as a part of their reign, conquest and authority (Swearer 2010, 71). This significantly enabled the localization of Buddhism into Southeast Asia especially in countries like Thailand who remains supportive of Buddhism as declared by the Chakri dynasty from the end of 18th century onwards (Bowker 2007, 150). • 20. Haraway’s A Cyborg Manifesto Essay Donna J. Haraway s A Cyborg Manifesto Haraway s provocative proposal of envisioning the cyborg as a myth of political identity embodies the search for a code of displacement of the hierarchical dualisms of naturalized identities (CM, 175), and thus for the breakdown of the logic of phallogocentrism and of the unity of the Western idealized self. Haraway defines the cyborg as a cybernetic organism, a hybrid of machine and organism, a creature of social reality as well as a creature of fiction (CM, 149). Her argument is introduced as an effort to build an ironic political myth faithful to feminism, socialism, and materialism (CM, 149). She claims blasphemy and irony as her vantage tools. As they build no sense of community on the model of the organic family, they live outside the oedipal project they are wary of holism, but needy for connection (CM, 151). Though the offsprings of militarism, patriarchal capitalism and state socialism, they are illegitimate offsprings and thus unfaithful to their origins. The late twentieth century scientific culture in the United States has experienced three crucial boundary breakdowns: the boundary between human and animal is thoroughly breached the boundary between human and machine has become leaky and ambiguous the boundary between physical and non physical has become very imprecise in that the experience of fluidity and lightness made possible by signals and electromagnetic waves renders the physical both material and opaque, very near to quintessence. When boundaries are transgressed, the transcendent authorization of interpretation is lost, and with it the ontology grounding Western epistemology (CM, 153). The efficiency of the technology is an asset to crime detectives apprehending criminals, or the government tracking suspected terrorists for the safety of the country. Over the course of this past year, body cameras are becoming increasingly popular with police officers in the United States. This is in response to the public s outrage with unlawful police force. Recently, companies that manufacture such bodycams announced plans to include facial recognition software. The data collected from the cameras would be in the hands of the police for a minimum of 18 months, depending on the incident recorded (Chapman). While this could initially be seen as a positive method to identifying and arresting an active suspect, there is a question of privacy of control when it comes to this matter. This is an invasion of privacy for the citizens caught on camera that are not involved in an incident nor have a criminal record. These cameras are often worn during protests, both peaceful and not, capturing everyday citizens speaking their thoughts and ideas. A concern that exists is if the police will use the data collected from the cameras to unlawfully monitor participants (Chapman). This would inevitably discourage participation in these gatherings and take control from peaceful citizens and give too much control to police officers. There is also no guarantee that the footage will not be used for other purposes that the public is not yet aware of. There is no U.S. federal law at the moment that directly protects the privacy of American citizens from the potential surveillance using facial recognition, (Chapman). The fact that there is no balancing system for the rights of United States citizens may lead law enforcement to take advantage of their freedom and use the technology inappropriately and excessively. • 23. Analysis Of `` House Of Sand And Fog `` By Andre Dubus IIi Alienation Throughout the novel House of Sand and Fog by Andre Dubus III, the recurring theme of alienation takes its toll on the lives of the two main characters: Kathy and Behrani. We see how the isolation of both characters not only has an effect on them, but also on the lives of others who matter most to them. Alienation is the act of being withdrawn or isolated from a life in which one is accustomed or should be accustomed to. The incidents of alienation demonstrated in the novel include, the relationship between each character and their families, Behrani and his family being forced out of their home country and living in America, and Kathy getting evicted from her family house. As we see these events occur throughout the book, we also learn that both characters will do whatever it takes to claim ownership of what they both call home. This drawn out battle over a piece of property ends up putting Kathy along with Lester behind bars, and with Behrani losing his son in the process. Dubus illustrates many scenes where both Kathy and Behrani isolate themselves from their families. For example, when Kathy is at the motel reminiscing of her phone calls with her mother, we see how Kathy alienates herself from her family when she notes how after Nick left, she would start lying about how well he was doing at his new job and how this used to be true (44). By not telling her mother that Nick had left her, this demonstrates a clear example of her seclusion from her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Baudrillard s description of this transformation from the Simulation to the Simulacra is heavily observed from the book s deviation of the vampire s association with religious characteristics and therefore a loss in the characteristics from the traditional is seen. The transformation of the simulation of an image to the simulacra is described in the following stages: 1. It is a reflection of a basic reality. 2. It masks and prevents a basic reality. 3. It masks the absence of a basic reality. 4. It bears no relation to any reality whatever; it is its own pure simulacrum. 1 The first stage is where a somewhat perfect copy of the original is made the representation is of the order of sacrament or the original is preserved. The second stage is where reality is altered, this is the pain where the sign becomes an unfaithful copy which masks reality. In this stage, signs and images do not reveal reality, but hint at the existence of a reality. The third stage is where there is a complete disconnect from the real. The sign pretends to be a faithful copy or the original, they attempt to be passed along as the real. Finally, in the fourth stage a pure simulacrum is observed the new image or ... The Evolution Of Wordless Societies Essay The Evolution of Wordless Societies: From Ancient Egypt Hieroglyphics to Emojis Pictures have been around long before words as a means of communicating. From ancient to modern civilizations, pictures and symbols have been used to convey messages and capsulize the history and culture of the society. Terms like hieroglyphics and emojis refer to systems of writing in which pictures and symbols represent ideas and sounds. This paper will examine four writing systems of ancient and modern societies that utilize pictures. Each of the writing systems used pictures along with letters. In some societies, pictorial uses were reserved for the society s elite, but recently, the use of pictures as primary text has become more main stream. Throughout time, society s use of pictures and symbols has transitioned from a more formal to informal method of written communication, however, it has still maintain its primary purpose. Ultimately, Solis is highly successful in laying out a convincing argument and demonstrating why Catalonian people, who have a strong attachment to their cultural identity, wish to gain autonomy within ... • 40. Season Your Data with Theory and Common Sense in Nate... I attended my second APICS Central Indiana Professional Development Meeting at Carmel on the 13th of March 2014. The keynote speaker was Bill Whiteside, who is a founder of Demand Solution Northeast, which markets and supports the Demand Solution suite of forecasting and supply chain management software in the Northeast US. He is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and a professional member of APICS. At that dinner event, he presented twelve supply chain forecastinglesson from The Signal and The Noise. The Signal and The Noise book is about the overwhelming proliferation of data and how so much of that data can produce more noise (garbage) than the signal (truth). The book told us how to find the truth amidst all the noise and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lesson number three is it is better to be a fox than a hedgehog . On the book, Silver expands this idea and notes that a fox know many things because it s likely to intensely question itself and gather information from a variety of sources. A hedgehog, on the other hand, will be more likely to rely on a single source of conventional wisdom. This idea encourage us to be resourceful like a fox, so we can be a more valuable contributor during the collaborative process. Collaboration is typically understood as a process in which multiple people provide input .However, collaboration can also be performed on an individual basis by collecting the information we need to shape to temper our projections and plans. Lesson number four is polls become more accurate the closer you get to the Election Day . This idea encourage us to continually update our forecast especially when we are approaching a decision point. The farther into the future you forecast, the less accurate your forecasts are likely to be. The closer you can update your forecasts to the point of decision, the more you improve your chances for accuracy. But, we need to notice if we wait too long to share our forecasts in order to ensure maximum accuracy, then we are defeating the purpose of the forecasting process. The optimal time to commit to a forecast is when a decision has to be made based on that forecast. For example, a commitment to production or to a purchase. We need ... • 41. Susan Nason Case In Redwood City, California The case against George Franklin took place in Redwood City, California. The victim, 8 year old Susan Nason, was raped and murdered by George Franklin in 1969. But it wasn t until 20 years after this horrendous crime that George Franklin was found guilty. He was guilty of first degree murder. This case gained attention because it was the first case ever to determine a man s fate based off of the resurfacing of repressed memory. Eileen Franklin, George Franklin s daughter, recalled having a flashback of her best friend, Susan s murder. It was the look in her daughter s eyes that triggered this memory. She contacted the authorities and shortly after she found herself testifying against her father. Her testimony of this was, I saw my father approaching Susan, his ... Some believed that there was no physical evidence to show that Eileen s recovered memory was true. However, others believed that this crime was too traumatizing for Eileen and resulted in repressing this particular memory. But how could she completely block this memory for 20 years? Franklin Lipsker testified that she repressed the memory for 20 years because her dad threatened to kill her too (ChicagoTribune,1990). Ultimately, George Franklin was convicted to life in prison. But this case took a turn when 6 years after his imprisonment, he was a free man. Due to DNA evidence, George Franklin s name was cleared, and he walked out of prison. Repressed Memory In my opinion, recovering very traumatic memories, can be caused by finding yourself in a similar situation. Perhaps even experiencing certain feelings can lead to recovering any repressed memories. If a repressed memory is recovered I don t believe you view the world the same way you once did. • 42. Telstra Swot Analysis Telstra s investment projects during 2015 provide an indication of strong leadership and a bright future for Telstra. In June 2015 Telstra launched Australia s largest wifi network Telstra Air, which gives telstra home broadband customers the power to use their data allowance and go online at thousands of hotspots in Australia and millions of hotspots overseas. This is an expensive investment, contributing to the decline in fixed product revenue (decline 1.9%). However, it will increases customers value and distinguishes telstra from other telecommunication providers. Telstra also formally launched Telstra Health, a provider of integrated eHealth solutions. This investment utilises Telstra s existing strength in connectivity, allowing people who live remote or work during business hours to talk to a GP via video conference or phone call. Telstra health has contributed 78 million dollars worth of income in the 2014 15 year. This profitability, along with increased diversity, creates many growth opportunities for Telstra. • 43. Tragic Events That Can Alter Life Style How do people really cope with tragic events that can alter their life style? The loss of a loved one, being laid off from work, serious sickness, terrorist attacks and many other horrific events are examples of difficult experiences we could face in our lives. Many of which will respond quite differently through each event they may encounter. This is to include strong emotions and at times they will tend to feel uncertainty. However, over time people will typically overcome these life changing events and stressful situations. What helps people to combat these circumstances? According to Baumgardner and Crothers (2009), resilience is a process individuals go through to face tragedies, trauma and stress in general. What if I told you it is... Not to mention, that I can do so much more in life because I went through something so horrendous. Continuing through this hardship I started reverting to times of tragedies where all I did was make excuses for and realize there may have been a purpose for it. There may have been something that can t be explained that occurred at the right time in my life because I started to give up on myself. It dawned on me that there is more to this world that I am obligated to do something with my life. You just need a wakeup call or something to happen to you that will spark that motivation deep down. My motivation was to make sure I did not let my best friend down. I want my best friend to be proud of me. I would want him to see this Brandon. It wasn t until several months later that I realized I needed to stop talking to myself and start listening to myself because I can tell myself a lot of things I want to hear. However, there is a lot of things I should tell myself because it could take me out of low times. When your done, please come down and sign the book Mr. Mulholland, the landlady said as she left the room. A few minutes later, Christopher made it back down to the lobby. He started thinking that she was a bit dotty as he reached the book. He opened it up and signed it, noticing he was the first one to write a name down. Suddenly, a colorful parrot flew down the stairs and landed in a birdcage. The parrot startled Christopher so much, he almost fell backwards. Hello, Hello, the parrot squawked at Christopher. Hello little parrot, he whispered with a smile. So I see you met my little parrot, Ginger, the landlady said as she came into the room with a silver tea tray. She came over and sat the tray down onto the table. Oh, I have a question, Christopher said as he turned around and saw her already pouring out some tea. Why is my name the only name in the book? Evaluate the Role of Chemical Transmitters in Explaining Behavioural Disorders All behaviour is provided by the nervous system from a blinking eye to talking. Everything we do relies on the integration of numerous processes within the body, which is controlled by the nervous system (Atkinson et al. 1990). It wasn t until the late 19th Century with the development of stronger magnifying lenses and staining techniques that the nervous system could be looked at in detail (Wickens, 2005). The integrating units of the nervous system are specialized cells called neurons. There are approximately 1 billion neurons in a human brain. What makes them more astonishing is that each single neuron is connected with around 10,000 others (Wickens, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore Parkinson s disease, which is associated with a depletion of dopamine display behaviours characteristic of schizophrenia when given too much L DOPA, a dopamine stimulant (Gershon, Angrist, and Shopsin, 1977 as cited in Kalat, 1992). In addition if schizophrenics are given drugs such as L DOPA their symptoms are heightened. (Kalat, 1992). On the other hand there are problems with the dopamine hypothesis, as it suggests that schizophrenics have an excess of dopamine in their brains. Deakin, 1988, as cites in Wickens, 2005, found little evidence for this following post mortems of schizophrenics. However a number of studies have found that schizophrenics have an increase of dopamine D 2 receptors (Jaskiw and Kleinman, 1988 as cited in Wickens, 2005) therefore it may be that increased uptake by receptors is responsible rather than an excess of dopamine. This gives rise to cause and effect, as is the schizophrenia caused by an increased number of receptors or is the increased number of receptors a result of antipsychotic drugs. The main criticism of an imbalance of neurotransmitters being the cause of schizophrenia is the finding that antipsychotics block receptors within a day or two, although it takes several weeks for them to take full affect (Wickens, 2005). This suggests that the key factor in improvement is not the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
