Proposal Of Action At A Nearby Facility
The purpose of this proposal is to discuss a plan of action in another nearby facility. As a small

Although, the summer days may be beautiful, there may be days where the air quality is poor due
to surrounding fires in the area, and the weather may not be acceptable for the children to be

has come to our attention that the building next door has been foreclosed and has remained vacant
in the past year. The building has been remodeled prior to vacancy and is large enough to provide
all the amenities needed. We are currently observing the bids and reviewing the floor plans of the
structure. This building was at one time a Senior Recreation Center with everything we need to
continue our program. The maintenance of the grounds is currently under the City of Anchorage.
Utilities for the building is also functioned by multiple generators. This is an excellent location for
the children because there would be no need to relocate. This will ensure that these children will
continue to receive free nutritious meals during the summer. Their parents are fully aware that their
children are in a safe environment with trained staff, and they know that their children are provided
with healthy meals. These meals provide a gap between the months of school without service.

The War On Negative Liberty By Katherine Mangu Ward Essay
In our time of increasingly intrusive government actions, Katherine Mangu Ward writes this piece
about how more and more Americans are suffering from extreme government control over our
everyday lives. With degrees in both political science and philosophy from Yale, Mangu Ward
works as the managing editor for the libertarian magazine Reason. In The War on Negative Liberty,
Mangu Ward calls upon her philosophy and political backgrounds when she references British
philosopher Isaiah Berlin who breaks freedom down into two types: negative and positive liberty.
Negative liberty, or freedom from, hinges on the idea of noninterference, and, Positive liberty:
the freedom to fulfill your potential, Mangu Ward writes (661). Mangu Ward s purpose for
creating this text is easy to determine. She wants to get readers to see the wrong in positive
liberty and to oppose a so called war on negative liberty that the government is fighting, however,
she goes about it the wrong way. Using the idea of two types of liberties as well as many
anecdotes, the author makes a considerably weak case to inform the readers about, and also get
them to oppose this war on negative liberty.
While Mangu Ward does make a weak argument, negative and positive liberties were relevant
topics when this composition was written. This literary piece has no specific date assigned to its
creation in the textbook Rereading America. However, through the author s use of the Talibanand

Macbeth Ambition Research Paper
The Power of Ambition
Ambition is the force that pushes society to make aspirations and dreams a reality.
Although this is normally an admirable quality to possess, one s ambition can easily take over, and
cause damage to not only themselves, but others as well. In William Shakespeare s tragedy Macbeth
, ambition is the motivating factor for characters actions. Resembling a cancer, taking over and
destroying everything in it s path. This is most evident in the character Macbeth whose lust for
power is responsible for his own tragic demise. Macbeth first experiences vaulting ambition after
being told enticing prophecies by supernatural beings, then through persuasion from Lady Macbeth
to take over the throne, and finally, upon becoming King, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Macbeth suggests that once a man commits a murderous act for his own gain, something of
which he has done, and continues to do, it is impossible for that person to stop, as turning back
would make no sense, and be tedious . At this point, Macbeth is willing to do whatever it takes to
keep himself at the highest position of power. Committing evil deeds has almost become second
nature. According to Macbeth, looking out for his own best interest is his main focus. Macbeth s
ambition to preserve the title as King of Scotland has taken over any rational thoughts. If needed

Bucket List Quotes
Quote 7: (time:4:00 7:35) Typically, we ask is this going to be the event or disease that kills our
loved one. I think it s okay to ask the question, is this what we are going to allow to kill our loved
one. Given the prognosis, what is the goal of the treatment?
Response:
When posed with this question, it would be difficult to answer without considering all
possibilities. If my loved one could live with a quality life eventually or if treatment would
prolong life until their bucket list might be completed, or if unresolved spiritual issues could be
resolved, my decision would be to continue treatment! Having a goal of the treatment ahead
certainly would be favorable for anyone facing a terminal illness. I can see how in some cases of
cancer or other terminal diseases, a loved one may not want to have treatment due to the quality of
life that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Response: Unfortunately, the cost of medical expenses is not cheap. However, how can you put
a price on someone s life. To stop treatment because of finances would be a decision that would
need to be carefully thought through from every direction. To grow old without regrets would
always be the goal. Consequently, wiping out your family would not be the goal that any person
would want to achieve. I believe that it is acceptable to stop treatment if you feel that is the right
path for quality of life. Moreover, it would be devastating to a loved one to think that they were a
part of the equation for ending someone s life. These videos by Dr. Scott Rae have brought to my
mind many of questions about death that I had not considered before. I will still continue to believe
that God would give grace and show Himself mightily when His child effectually, fervently, calls
for help. Word count:

Social Identity Essay On Fishing
As a female college student, I have many identities. Some identities change, others don t, but
either way, they all have something in common they are each known as our social identity. One
person can have many social identities, just and many people can share a social identity. This
phenomenon often creates a common ground between people who may seem completely
different. Social identities can be anything for a lover of a certain type of music, sport, activity,
or even just where these people are from. I have moved a lot through my years, but no matter
where I go, I can always find people who share some of my social identities, which aids in feeling
comfortable in a new place or situation.

I know this may sound harsh if you are not a hunter, but to hunters, it is more than just killing an
animal. It is retelling the stories of our ancestors, and providing us with the food God has provided
for us. When looking at types of hunting that take place, there are many different forms. The most
popular of which are deer hunting, squirrel hunting, turkey hunting, elk/moose hunting, and big
game hunting. Big game hunting is most often hunting done in other countries. Many times, it is
found on the continent of Africa, where people can big game hunt, where they hunt rhinos,
elephants, lions, and many other animals. Each type of hunting has certain people who love that
type more than the others. Often times, this itself is a big source of social identity within the
realm of hunters. An important note to make is how hunting is an ever decreasing part of our
lives. An article talks about this decline and mentions how From 1963 to 1967, the first years for
which Alabama has data, an average of more than 113,000 hunters harvested more than 1 million
rabbits a year. [And by the year of 2015] only 15,000 hunters harvested fewer than 100,000 rabbits.

Frequency Distributions and Sampling
Frequency Distributions:
A normal distribution can be regarded as the most important continuous probability distribution in
statistics since it can be utilized to model several sets of measurements in business, industry, and
nature. For instance, normal distributions can be used to measure the systolic blood pressure of
humans, housing costs, and the lifetime of television sets through random variables. Generally,
normal distributions can have any mean and positive standard deviation as the two parameters
totally determine the shape of the normal curve during evaluation. In this case, the mean determines
the location of the symmetry line while the standard deviation defines how much the data are
spread out ( Normal Probability Distributions , n.d.). In the United States, the age at time of death
is more likely to closely approximate a normal distribution than annual income because data on
income and income inequality are more controversial. Annual income does not closely approximate
a normal distribution because there are different approximation methodologies and the fact that
households generally have more than a single individual. Furthermore, annual income does not
closely approximate a normal distribution because of the continued growth in income inequality
due to various factors such as the high rates of unemployment. On the contrary, age at time of death
closely approximates a normal distribution because the mortality rates in the United States have a

Bones And Ichabod Crane In Washington Irving s The Legend...
If someone is afraid of ghost and goblins, they should not go to Sleepy Hollow! In the passage
The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving, there are two characters named Brom Bones
and Ichabod Crane. These men are very different from each other, though Ichabod and Brom
think similar about some things. These are some characteristics of Ichabod. Ichabod move from
town to town teaching children, and he also taught singing. The kids whom he taught often
laughed at his tall, lanky body with small shoulders, long arms, long legs, huge ears, pointy nose,
and his huge green eyes, But despite his looks he was a very well educated man. In paragraph 4 ,
it states, He had read several books quite through, and was a perfect master of Cotton

The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow Character Analysis
Ichabod Crane is portrayed as an interesting, complex character in the story The Legend of
Sleepy Hollow. Crane is an excellent example of how not everyone is exactly how they seem.
His slippery, dark personality can not easily be identified on paper in the story, but Irving made
sure the message was deeper than it is on paper. Many readers understand the big plot and the
exciting timeline of this story, but what is communicated underneath is what is often looked over.
Irving, by writing a comical phenomenon, solidified himself as being one of the best writers of his
era, but what really stood out was what he used the character of Ichabod Craneto communicate
about society.
It is evident throughout the story how Crane brings out the worst in people. Perhaps, the biggest
enemy Crane made was Brom Bones. For example, Of the sorts of falls that such an agent as he
might induce, consistent with Irving s fondness for his Dutch characters, there is sort of pillow
soft, post Miltonic fall of Brom, who, encountering evil without accepting it, passes from
innocence to a knowledge of virtuous action and in the process gains his method (Von Frank).
Brom was not always an angry, jealous person. Ichabod coming into town and trying to take his
love away from him, set him off in the wrong direction. Ichabod was very interested in Katrina
Van Tassel, or rather, he was very interested in Van Tassel s wealth. Crane was frustrated with his
poverty and poor financial situation. He concluded that he was going to marry Van Tassel just to
inherit her wealth and live like a king. Ichabod Crane had a soft and foolish heart towards the
females; and it is not to be wondered at, that so tempting a morsel soon found favor in his eyes;
more especially after he had visited her in her paternal mansion, old Baltus Van Tassel was a
perfect picture of a thriving, contented, liberal hearted farmer (Irving 14 15). He was never
deeply interested in her personality, he was only trying her use her. Irving portrayed that Brom
was so upset with Crane for many reasons, ultimately ending up with the fact that it was because
of Crane s relentless pursuit of Van Tassel s wealth. The dark character traits of jealousy and envy
were portrayed by

DNA Technology Task 3 Poster
DNA fingerprinting, also known as DNA profiling, is a technique used in forensic science that
identifies individuals based on various characteristics of their DNA. Although the DNA sequences
between humans are 99.9% identical, DNA fingerprinting is able to distinguish between individuals
due to the presence of specific sequences within the non coding region of the genome known as
satellite DNA. This satellite DNA consists of long stretches of DNA made up of repeating base
sequences known as short tandem repeats (STR). These STRs considerably vary in length between
individuals, particularly between unrelated individuals, allowing exact individuals to be identified.
One major use of DNA fingerprinting is in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to the presence of negatively charged phosphate groups within the sugar phosphate backbone
of DNA, the DNA fragments diffuse through the gel towards the anode. The smaller fragments
are more able to penetrate through the gel and thus travel the furthest whereas the larger
fragments travel a shorter distance. The exact size in bases for each separated fragment in a
given sample of DNA can be determined by comparing each fragment against standard fragments
of known length. This is commonly known as a ladder within the laboratory. For the purposes of a
crime scene investigation, multiple DNA samples would be simultaneously run through the gel,
Once separated, a DNA fragmentation pattern is produced that allows the criminal to be
identified. As shown in the figure below, a DNA sample obtained from the crime scene is
compared to two possible suspects. The pattern of suspect 1 more closely matches the pattern of the
DNA obtained from the crime scene thus allowing the true criminal to be correctly identified.
Similarly, for paternal testing, the DNA samples of the mother and child are compared to the
potential fathers. The fragmentation pattern of the child should resemble both the mother and true
father as half of child s alleles are inherited from the mother and father. Male 1 resembled the child s

Hawaii Language Essay
As a child, around the age of five, I became friends with the children of a family that had just moved
to our neighborhood from Hawaii. The parents would occasionally make statements in a language
that the children could not speak. I realize now that they were making these statements in Hawaiian,
although they did not speak the language fluently, and their children did not speak the language at
all. Unfortunately, this loss of language from one generation to the next has been quite common in
Hawaiisince the early nineteen hundreds when the influence of the United Statesresulted in
institutionalized language death.
Hawaiian language, also known as ЕЊlelo Hawai I, is a Marquesic language related to other
Oceanic languages of the Eastern Malayo Polynesian group in the Austronesian language family.
Hawaiian is a language with no known dialects, however, some linguists note that there is a
slight distinction between Hawaiian spoken throughout the islands, and Hawaiian spoken at the
university. The language is named, Hawaiian, after the group of islands where it was first
developed and recognized; Hawaii is a volcanic archipelago located in the Central Pacific, hence
the language relation to other Oceanic languages (UCLA, Language Materials Project). Previous
to the influence of the United States, there were a reported 400,000 to 800,000 Native Hawaiian
speakers living in Hawaii. Hawaiian developed as a solely oral language, with a rich tradition of
storytelling and music.

If you go on YouTube and watch how the races were broadcast in the 1980s and 1990s you ll see
there were no gimmicks, no pre race concerts, no interviews with celebrities pretending to like
NASCAR (unless they were giving the command to start engines which are much better than
seeing a CEO or vice president do it), no specials featuring a feel good or sob story from
someone in NASCAR. It was about one thing and that was the race itself. They interviewed a
few drivers, told any news going on in the sport and that was it, no B.S. NASCAR could really
learn a lot from Formula Ones pre race show. One thing that is incredibly missed in the broad
cast presentation is the starting lineup. The 1988 Daytona 500 starting lineup presentation
(which you can see here) is exactly how it should be done. It makes the races seem more
dramatic and epic and even shows the cars too which is important because it will help new fans
identify quickly who is driving what car. Today they go through the starting lineup in 30 seconds
and even stop announcing it sometimes once they get to about 25th place. Another issue is that
there is hardly any variety in the camera angles. For almost the entire race (except replays) you
are seeing the same 5 shots of the race. Every single shot around the turns are shots from right
along the wall. The in car cameras are also getting boring because

Changing A Little At A Time
Chapter 3: Changing a Little at a Time (Make a Difference)
If you won a million dollars what would you do? This is a common question people often ask.
The common response is going on vacation, buy a nice car, etc. But we often hear the response of
giving to charity and making a difference in the world. I am the same way. If I had a million dollars
I would want to make a difference in the world and give a lot of it to charity. The reality of me
winning a million dollars is extremely slim. However, I can still accomplish my goal, to make a

in Costa Rica giving to their community. My first goal on my bucket list was about to get
crossed off. And then I met a handsome young man that swept me off my feet. I was in a big
dilemma. I could either spend four months in Costa Rica and accomplish my dream of making a
difference in a foreign country, or I could get married to the man of my dreams. It was a very
hard decision to make. It brought me many sleepless nights, and in the end, I knew I needed to
marry this boy and use the money I had saved up for Costa Rica to help with wedding and future
plans. It was devastating. But it was eye opening. From that moment on, I knew I didn t need to go

make just as big of a difference. There are children here who don t have shoes to wear or food to

Inception Inception was released in 2010, and the film was given a slightly futuristic
atmosphere, but a specific date was not clarified. The main character, Dom Cobb (Leonardo

Do you agree with Rosado s definition of multiculturalism? Would you add or delete information to

I do not totally agree with Rosado s (1996) definition of multiculturalism. Specifically, I don t
believe it s necessary to acknowledge a person s differences. Quite frankly, I would be horrified. I
believe it is important to give every person an opportunity based on qualifications and the needs of
the organization. Rosado (1996) also writes in his

How Does Steinbeck Present Curley s Wife In Of Mice And Men
In Of Mice And Men Curley s wife is the most hopeless and misserable character in the story. She
has no future as she is stuck with her former husband (Curley) who hates her leaving his sight,
she has no friends as she is the only woman on the ranch and Curley will not allow her socializ
with the men because he feels that they would steel her, and she has no respect from anyone on
the ranch because why should they; She gets the men in trouble just by looking at them because

Fee Fees And Detections
Everyone makes bad decisions. If a person gets behind the wheel while under the influence of
drugs or alcohol, they may be charged with a DWI. This is a serious charge. While there are
some who may believe they can beat the charge without the help of a DWI Attorney in Bel Air

understanding of the law, it can be difficult to know what to do to ensure the case has the best

Essay On Resveratrol
Resveratrol Attenuates Neuronal Apoptosis after Subarachnoid Hemorrhage via inhibiting the
expression of TXNIP in Rats Abstract Objective: Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is a fatal
condition with a few available effective treatments. Resveratrol (RES), a natural polyphenolic
compound, has a powerful anti apoptosis property. In addition, its neuroprotective effects has been
exhibited in neurodegenerative diseases, ischemic brain damage, and SAH. However, the
underlying molecular mechanism of RES in protecting against early brain injury (EBI) after SAH
remains unclear. Our preliminary findings have revealed that thioredoxin interacting protein
(TXNIP) might participate in EBI by promoting neuronal apoptosis. The purpose of this study was
to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Introduction Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), predominantly caused by a ruptured aneurysm, is
a devastating neurological disease that has a morbidity and mortality rate higher than 50% [1].
Early brain injury (EBI) was reported as the primary cause of mortality and poor outcomes in
SAH patients [2 4]. Therefore, novel therapeutic strategies aiming at elucidating EBI after SAH
are required. It has been proven that a series of complex pathophysiological processes are involved
in the pathogenesis of EBI. Among them, neuronal apoptosis plays a vital role [3,5,6]. Therefore,
preventing neuronal apoptosis can be a prospective target to improve severe neurological deficits
and outcomes in patients with SAH. Resveratrol (trans 3, 4′, 5 trihydroxystilbene, RES), a
natural polyphenolic compound mainly found in grape skin and red wine, has attracted wide
attention lately because of its antioxidant, anti inflammation, anti aging, anti diabetes effects as
well as control of cell cycle and apoptosis [7 9]. It has been proven that RES can cross the blood
brain barrier (BBB) [10]. Previous studies have shown that RES induced anti apoptosis in various
diseases, such as cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular, and neurodegenerative diseases [11 14]. Many
investigators affirm that RES can reduce the neuronal apoptosis, but very few reports are available
regarding the underlying molecular mechanisms of reducing neuronal

The Roles Of The Role Of Women In The Iliad
Throughout history, the role of women in the society has been a topic of debate. Men have
traditionally been viewed as superior since the beginning of time. As a war poem, the Iliad too
highlights the battles and decisions of men. The position of women in the Iliad can be analyzed in
two parts: the mortal sphere and the immortal sphere. Mortal women are less prominent than the
mortal men, who are either treated as the property of men (for example Chryseis and Briseis) or are
typecast as interlocutors and stereotyped mothers like Thetis and Queen Hecuba. However, these
women are not completely without power or persuasive influence, as they affect the events off the
battlefield. In the other sphere, Goddesses like Athena and Hera, seem to be more powerful and
influential than their male counterparts.
One of the primary purposes of the mortal women in the Iliad is to serve as objects of prize or
bounty to the war heroes. This is shown from the beginning with the priest Chryses brining a
priceless ransom to win his daughter, Chryseis, back from king Agamemnon. Agamemnon,
however, firmly refuses and says:
The girl I won t give up the girl. Long before that, old age will overtake her in my house, in Argos,
far from her fatherland, slaving back and forth

The Effects Of Co2 On The Permeability Of Indian...
Introduction
In the storage of CO2 in the deep geologic reservoirs for enhancing extraction of coalbed methane
area, Vishal et al. argue against the consequences of CO2 injection on the permeability of Indian
bituminous coal at different confining and injection pressure.
The major approach of the journal is to clarify about when and how would the incensement of
injection pressure have impact on the permeability of coalbed methane.
As a final year Civil Engineering student, I found this journal is educational and inspiring. The
research shows a comprehensive explanation of how pressure and stress of permeability of coal to
sub critical CO2 is tested.
Summary
In order to reduce greenhouse gases, Vishal et al. is investigating a ... Show more content on

The effective stress is proportional to the confining pressure and pore pressure. Results, a trend of
exponential decline in permeability with increasing effective stress is observed. During the passage
of CO2 through the coal sample, the gas is absorbed, which cause volume deformation.
The journal concluded that the reduction in permeability of coal maybe attributes to the role of
coal matrix expansion. CO2 gets preferentially adsorbed onto the surface of the coal. At the same
time, adsorption induces swelling at the time of coal exposure to the gas. The increase of
injection of gas will cause the decline in permeability is belongs to the fracture spacing is not
completely closed and the movement of gas cause swelling. However, the closure of fractures, a
flow with increase permeability at higher injection pressure occurs at the highest confining
pressure.. This is because the opening of fracture by increases the fracture apertures and this can
enable easier flow (The University of Alabama. College of Continuing Studies, College of
engineering, 2004).
Evaluation
The information is relatively accurate, as there will be always variables about the geological
conditions. For instance, the selected sample area is Jharia, the results obtained are respected to a
certain area, but it is different to the whole area of Jharia. In the meantime, the detail of geological
information is necessary for the testing, but there are only limited investigations are available for the

Pathological Gambling
Pathological gambling is depicted by an absence of control of gambling behavior, failed efforts to
leave or cut back, leniency, use of betting to getaway difficulties, and dishonest to family and
friends about gambling comportment (American Psychiatric Association [APA], 2000a). Difficulty
and pathological gamblinghave also been linked with poorer levels of wellbeing and greater
percentages of disorders throughout populaces (Erickson, Molina, Ladd, Pietrzak, Petry, 2005).
Since the development of permissible gambling, there has been a resultant upsurge in gambling
involvement and gambling glitches (Shaffer Hall, 2001). People with gambling glitches have
considerable liability and jumbled family contacts (Shaw, Forbush, Schlinder, Rosenman, Black,
2007).
Older adults may be more susceptible to gambling glitches due to unchanging earnings, monotony,
and declined activity after retirement, and pathological gamblers have greater degrees of
apprehension, despair, and intoxication (Kerber, Black, Buckwalter, 2008). Older adults with
gambling glitches are also susceptible to comorbid physical diseases. Older adult gamblers may
have felt the extra monetary tension that distresses their physical wellbeing (Pietrzak, Molina,
Ladd, Kerins, Petry, 2005).
Pathological gambling is an increasing public health setback that has received bantam consideration
from investigators, the government, or the overall public. With the development of permissible

The Stark Law Essays
The Stark Law
Some federal statutes address fraud in government health care programs, and many of these laws
vary considerably (Krause 2004). Some of these laws specifically target health care fraud. Example
of the laws that the government direct at inappropriate health care activities includes the Medicare
and Medicaid Anti Kickback Statute and Ethics in Patient Referrals Act (EPRA).
In 1989, Congress enacted the Ethics in Patient Referrals Act. Commonly known as Stark law,
Congress named it in honor of Rep. Pete Stark, a Democrat from California, and original sponsor
of the bill (Sprague 2004). This law places limitations on self referrals by physicians and prohibits
physicians from referring patients to organizations in which ... Show more content on

Considering the provisions of the Stark law, it is clear that Congress enacted the law to curb the
self referrals that were prevalent among medical practitioners due to the sprawling specialty
hospitals and health facilities (Choudhry, Choudhry, and Brennan 2005). Furthermore, Congress
saw the need to prevent a physician s referral decision that is dependent on a selfish, financial gain.
The idea was to preclude overutilization of certain health care facilities that may arise from
objectionable referrals and the resultant increase in health care cost (Staman 2010).
Congress created the Stark law, which is compiled as Section 1877 of the Social Security Act, as
part of the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1989, Public Law 101 239, 103 Stat. 2423
(1989); the Stark law is codified at 42 U.S.C. В§ 1395nn. In 1993, Congress passed the Omnibus
Budget Reconciliation Act that significantly amended the Stark law, and the amendment is
commonly known as Stark II (Staman 2010). In essence, Stark I and Stark II were not created as
stand alone laws but as provisions in the Omnibus Budget Reconciliations of 1989 and 1993. The
Stark law defines a financial relationship at 42 U.S.C. В§ 1395nn to include either (1) an ownership

Historical Significance Of The Vietnam War
The Vietnam War is a blank page in the history of the U.S. foreign policy. As a matter of fact, there
have been many public and congressional debates about the American intervention in Vietnam and
the morality of the political decision that proved to be fatal for both countries. Undeniably, the
Vietnam War belongs in the period of the Turbulent Sixties which along with other tremendous
political events such as the Civil War, divided the American society for decades. Until today the
memory of the war still haunts the American conscience. Thus, the purpose of the essay is to

From the late twentieth century on, cultural historians and psychologists have stressed the
importance of the memory in an attempt to provide insight to the traumatic past and the process of
reconciliation, both in the political as well as the cultural domain. Furthermore, memory is
considered of high importance when it comes to the formation of identity either for individuals,
groups or a nation as a whole. According to Marita Sturken s statements in her book Tangled
Memories: The Vietnam War, the AIDS Epidemic, and the Politics of Remembering, memory is
crucial to the understanding of a culture precisely because it indicates collective desires, needs, and
self definitions (2). Additionally, memory and history are distinct from cultural memory, which is a
field of contested meanings that interacts with American cultural elements in order to produce
concepts of the nation, particularly in events of trauma, where both the structures and fractures of a

Edith Cowan Legacy
FREEDOM AND FAIRNESS The legacy of Edith Cowan Edith Cowan, Australia s first female

Separate But Equal Equality
The conflict over segregation has been an issue since the Civil War. After the Civil War,
equality was slowed by many court cases and state laws. Separate but Equal was a term used to
demonstrate that white and black people were to be separated, but have the same facilities
available. Unfortunately, this was not always the case. The struggle to achieve equality was made
more difficult by the legislation of racism in the Plessy v. Ferguson case. Homer Plessy, a white
man living in Louisiana, was the subject of an important court case that set the stage for years of
struggle over Separate but Equal. His great grandmother was African American, therefore, even
though he looked white, he was classified as black. The Separate Car Act, enacted in 1890, stated
that whites and blacks had to be separated in different railroad cars. Plessy bought a ticket from
Press Street Depot in New Orleans to travel to Covington, Louisiana. Once he bought his ticket, he
got into the whites only railroad car. A railroad employee asked him to move to the blacks only
cars, but Plessy refused. A private detective, working at the railroad station, took Plessy off the
train and arrested him. Plessy was charged twenty five dollars for breaking the law, and was brought
before Judge John H. Ferguson of the Criminal Court for New Orleans, who upheld the state law.

Comparing Puck And Bottom In A Midsummer Night s Dream
There are many comedic characters in Shakespeare s A Midsummer Night s Dream. A
Midsummer Night s Dream is about love and how confusing it can be. There is a fairy world,

comedic characters, the two who stand out the most are Puck and Bottom. Both characters are in
the play for comedic effects, but both could not be more different. This paper will go through
how they are different and similar, and how they are like the groups they represent. Although Puck
and Bottom are different characters, they have a lot of similarities. One similarity they have is
that they are both in the play as comedic characters. You can tell Bottom is a comedic character

America also tried to maintain neutrality, electing Woodrow Wilson on the slogan He kept us out

The War On Negative Liberty By Katherine Mangu Ward Essay In our time of increasingly intrusive government actions, Katherine Mangu Ward writes this piece about how more and more Americans are suffering from extreme government control over our everyday lives. With degrees in both political science and philosophy from Yale, Mangu Ward works as the managing editor for the libertarian magazine Reason. This literary piece has no specific date assigned to its creation in the textbook Rereading America. However, through the author s use of the Talibanand other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I think it s okay to ask the question, is this what we are going to allow to kill our loved one. Given the prognosis, what is the goal of the treatment? Response: When posed with this question, it would be difficult to answer without considering all possibilities. If my loved one could live with a quality life eventually or if treatment would prolong life until their bucket list might be completed, or if unresolved spiritual issues could be resolved, my decision would be to continue treatment! Having a goal of the treatment ahead certainly would be favorable for anyone facing a terminal illness. To stop treatment because of finances would be a decision that would need to be carefully thought through from every direction. To grow old without regrets would always be the goal. Consequently, wiping out your family would not be the goal that any person would want to achieve. I believe that it is acceptable to stop treatment if you feel that is the right path for quality of life. Moreover, it would be devastating to a loved one to think that they were a part of the equation for ending someone s life. The most popular of which are deer hunting, squirrel hunting, turkey hunting, elk/moose hunting, and big game hunting. Big game hunting is most often hunting done in other countries. Many times, it is found on the continent of Africa, where people can big game hunt, where they hunt rhinos, elephants, lions, and many other animals. • 10. Frequency Distributions and Sampling Frequency Distributions: A normal distribution can be regarded as the most important continuous probability distribution in statistics since it can be utilized to model several sets of measurements in business, industry, and nature. For instance, normal distributions can be used to measure the systolic blood pressure of humans, housing costs, and the lifetime of television sets through random variables. Generally, normal distributions can have any mean and positive standard deviation as the two parameters totally determine the shape of the normal curve during evaluation. In this case, the mean determines the location of the symmetry line while the standard deviation defines how much the data are spread out ( Normal Probability Distributions , n.d.). In the United States, the age at time of death is more likely to closely approximate a normal distribution than annual income because data on income and income inequality are more controversial. Annual income does not closely approximate a normal distribution because there are different approximation methodologies and the fact that households generally have more than a single individual. Furthermore, annual income does not closely approximate a normal distribution because of the continued growth in income inequality due to various factors such as the high rates of unemployment. On the contrary, age at time of death closely approximates a normal distribution because the mortality rates in the United States have a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow Character Analysis Ichabod Crane is portrayed as an interesting, complex character in the story The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Crane is an excellent example of how not everyone is exactly how they seem. His slippery, dark personality can not easily be identified on paper in the story, but Irving made sure the message was deeper than it is on paper. Many readers understand the big plot and the exciting timeline of this story, but what is communicated underneath is what is often looked over. Irving, by writing a comical phenomenon, solidified himself as being one of the best writers of his era, but what really stood out was what he used the character of Ichabod Craneto communicate about society. It is evident throughout the story how Crane brings out the worst in people. Perhaps, the biggest enemy Crane made was Brom Bones. For example, Of the sorts of falls that such an agent as he might induce, consistent with Irving s fondness for his Dutch characters, there is sort of pillow soft, post Miltonic fall of Brom, who, encountering evil without accepting it, passes from innocence to a knowledge of virtuous action and in the process gains his method (Von Frank). Brom was not always an angry, jealous person. Ichabod coming into town and trying to take his love away from him, set him off in the wrong direction. Ichabod was very interested in Katrina Van Tassel, or rather, he was very interested in Van Tassel s wealth. Crane was frustrated with his poverty and poor financial situation. He concluded that he was going to marry Van Tassel just to inherit her wealth and live like a king. Ichabod Crane had a soft and foolish heart towards the females; and it is not to be wondered at, that so tempting a morsel soon found favor in his eyes; more especially after he had visited her in her paternal mansion, old Baltus Van Tassel was a perfect picture of a thriving, contented, liberal hearted farmer (Irving 14 15). He was never deeply interested in her personality, he was only trying her use her. Science DNA Technology Task 3 Poster DNA fingerprinting, also known as DNA profiling, is a technique used in forensic science that identifies individuals based on various characteristics of their DNA. Although the DNA sequences between humans are 99.9% identical, DNA fingerprinting is able to distinguish between individuals due to the presence of specific sequences within the non coding region of the genome known as satellite DNA. This satellite DNA consists of long stretches of DNA made up of repeating base sequences known as short tandem repeats (STR). These STRs considerably vary in length between individuals, particularly between unrelated individuals, allowing exact individuals to be identified. One major use of DNA fingerprinting is in ... Due to the presence of negatively charged phosphate groups within the sugar phosphate backbone of DNA, the DNA fragments diffuse through the gel towards the anode. This is commonly known as a ladder within the laboratory. For the purposes of a crime scene investigation, multiple DNA samples would be simultaneously run through the gel, Once separated, a DNA fragmentation pattern is produced that allows the criminal to be identified. As shown in the figure below, a DNA sample obtained from the crime scene is compared to two possible suspects. The pattern of suspect 1 more closely matches the pattern of the DNA obtained from the crime scene thus allowing the true criminal to be correctly identified. The parents would occasionally make statements in a language that the children could not speak. I realize now that they were making these statements in Hawaiian, although they did not speak the language fluently, and their children did not speak the language at all. In addition, its neuroprotective effects has been exhibited in neurodegenerative diseases, ischemic brain damage, and SAH. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Introduction Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), predominantly caused by a ruptured aneurysm, is a devastating neurological disease that has a morbidity and mortality rate higher than 50% [1]. Early brain injury (EBI) was reported as the primary cause of mortality and poor outcomes in SAH patients [2 4]. Therefore, novel therapeutic strategies aiming at elucidating EBI after SAH are required. It has been proven that a series of complex pathophysiological processes are involved in the pathogenesis of EBI. Among them, neuronal apoptosis plays a vital role [3,5,6]. Therefore, preventing neuronal apoptosis can be a prospective target to improve severe neurological deficits and outcomes in patients with SAH. It has been proven that RES can cross the blood brain barrier (BBB) [10]. Men have traditionally been viewed as superior since the beginning of time. As a war poem, the Iliad too highlights the battles and decisions of men. The position of women in the Iliad can be analyzed in two parts: the mortal sphere and the immortal sphere. Mortal women are less prominent than the mortal men, who are either treated as the property of men (for example Chryseis and Briseis) or are typecast as interlocutors and stereotyped mothers like Thetis and Queen Hecuba. However, these women are not completely without power or persuasive influence, as they affect the events off the battlefield. In the other sphere, Goddesses like Athena and Hera, seem to be more powerful and influential than their male counterparts. One of the primary purposes of the mortal women in the Iliad is to serve as objects of prize or bounty to the war heroes. This is shown from the beginning with the priest Chryses brining a priceless ransom to win his daughter, Chryseis, back from king Agamemnon. Difficulty and pathological gamblinghave also been linked with poorer levels of wellbeing and greater percentages of disorders throughout populaces (Erickson, Molina, Ladd, Pietrzak, Petry, 2005). Since the development of permissible gambling, there has been a resultant upsurge in gambling involvement and gambling glitches (Shaffer Hall, 2001). Older adults may be more susceptible to gambling glitches due to unchanging earnings, monotony, and declined activity after retirement, and pathological gamblers have greater degrees of apprehension, despair, and intoxication (Kerber, Black, Buckwalter, 2008). • 29. The Stark Law Essays The Stark Law Some federal statutes address fraud in government health care programs, and many of these laws vary considerably (Krause 2004). Some of these laws specifically target health care fraud. Example of the laws that the government direct at inappropriate health care activities includes the Medicare and Medicaid Anti Kickback Statute and Ethics in Patient Referrals Act (EPRA). In 1989, Congress enacted the Ethics in Patient Referrals Act. Commonly known as Stark law, Congress named it in honor of Rep. Pete Stark, a Democrat from California, and original sponsor of the bill (Sprague 2004). This law places limitations on self referrals by physicians and prohibits physicians from referring patients to organizations in which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Considering the provisions of the Stark law, it is clear that Congress enacted the law to curb the self referrals that were prevalent among medical practitioners due to the sprawling specialty hospitals and health facilities (Choudhry, Choudhry, and Brennan 2005). Furthermore, Congress saw the need to prevent a physician s referral decision that is dependent on a selfish, financial gain. The idea was to preclude overutilization of certain health care facilities that may arise from objectionable referrals and the resultant increase in health care cost (Staman 2010). Congress created the Stark law, which is compiled as Section 1877 of the Social Security Act, as part of the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1989, Public Law 101 239, 103 Stat. 2423 (1989); the Stark law is codified at 42 U.S.C. В§ 1395nn. In 1993, Congress passed the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act that significantly amended the Stark law, and the amendment is commonly known as Stark II (Staman 2010). In essence, Stark I and Stark II were not created as stand alone laws but as provisions in the Omnibus Budget Reconciliations of 1989 and 1993. The Stark law defines a financial relationship at 42 U.S.C. В§ 1395nn to include either (1) an ownership or investment interest in the entity or (2) a compensation arrangement between ... This dynasty under Emperor Shihuangdi was able to unite China for the first time under a single ruler by using military campaigns, which was a thought that the great thinkers wandered about under the Zhou dynasty of the golden age. Confucius thought about how a just and harmonious society could again emerge (stokstad, p. 77). The Dynasty through its ability to conquer and reclaim lands that brought China s society together as a whole was able to develop a language system of writing, beauracracy, and an intricate hierarchy based off of competence guided by codes of law, rather than family inheritance. He created more than 4,000 miles of roads, which enabled a connection to Europe known as the silk roads. He built canals and irrigation systems to improve agricultural production. • 31. Historical Significance Of The Vietnam War The Vietnam War is a blank page in the history of the U.S. foreign policy. As a matter of fact, there have been many public and congressional debates about the American intervention in Vietnam and the morality of the political decision that proved to be fatal for both countries. Undeniably, the Vietnam War belongs in the period of the Turbulent Sixties which along with other tremendous political events such as the Civil War, divided the American society for decades. Until today the memory of the war still haunts the American conscience. Thus, the purpose of the essay is to examine the significance of the VietnamWar as a collective memory in the American society. From the late twentieth century on, cultural historians and psychologists have stressed the importance of the memory in an attempt to provide insight to the traumatic past and the process of reconciliation, both in the political as well as the cultural domain. Furthermore, memory is considered of high importance when it comes to the formation of identity either for individuals, groups or a nation as a whole. According to Marita Sturken s statements in her book Tangled Memories: The Vietnam War, the AIDS Epidemic, and the Politics of Remembering, memory is crucial to the understanding of a culture precisely because it indicates collective desires, needs, and self definitions (2). Additionally, memory and history are distinct from cultural memory, which is a field of contested meanings that interacts with American cultural elements in order to produce concepts of the nation, particularly in events of trauma, where both the structures and fractures of a culture are exposed (Sturken ... Money is something that we use every day to buy either essentials or luxuries. However, I feel that not many of us would notice who those people are on the banknotes and what significant contributions they had made to be on it. For instance, if we look at the Australian 50 dollars banknote above, we see David Unaipon (David Ngunaitponi), a prominent Aboriginal who has been portrayed on the front of our Australian national currency since 1995. He was a particularly intelligent man, who was reputable as an inventor and the first Indigenous author, who wrote newspaper articles to fight for Indigenous studies and their rights. • 39. Separate But Equal Equality The conflict over segregation has been an issue since the Civil War. After the Civil War, equality was slowed by many court cases and state laws. Separate but Equal was a term used to demonstrate that white and black people were to be separated, but have the same facilities available. Unfortunately, this was not always the case. The struggle to achieve equality was made more difficult by the legislation of racism in the Plessy v. Ferguson case. Homer Plessy, a white man living in Louisiana, was the subject of an important court case that set the stage for years of struggle over Separate but Equal. His great grandmother was African American, therefore, even though he looked white, he was classified as black. The Separate Car Act, enacted in 1890, stated that whites and blacks had to be separated in different railroad cars. Plessy bought a ticket from Press Street Depot in New Orleans to travel to Covington, Louisiana. Once he bought his ticket, he got into the whites only railroad car. A railroad employee asked him to move to the blacks only cars, but Plessy refused. A private detective, working at the railroad station, took Plessy off the train and arrested him. Plessy was charged twenty five dollars for breaking the law, and was brought before Judge John H. Ferguson of the Criminal Court for New Orleans, who upheld the state law. The law was challenged in the Supreme Court on the grounds that it conflicted with the 13th and 14th Amendments (history.com). After the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Midsummer Night s Dream is about love and how confusing it can be. There is a fairy world, and then the real worlds, and the various love triangles in each. Despite there being multiple comedic characters, the two who stand out the most are Puck and Bottom. Both characters are in the play for comedic effects, but both could not be more different. This paper will go through how they are different and similar, and how they are like the groups they represent. Although Puck and Bottom are different characters, they have a lot of similarities. One similarity they have is that they are both in the play as comedic characters. An example of this is Bottom s idea of having someone play the wall. Bottom states Some man or other must present Wall.
