Home Extension
If you re running out of space in your home but your financial resources aren t sufficient enough
to leave your home and move into another one, you just may have a valid option for a small
investment that will solve your problem effectively. A home extension can increase the size of
your home, creating more useable space that can solve your crisis as far as living or utilitarian
space is concerned.
Consider Your Space Needs
What do you need space for in your home? Where do you require the most space? How an you
attractively integrate new space into your home in an attractive and efficient manner? How will
your home extension affect light and ventilation and your home s yard, among other environmental
factors? Will an extension ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Typical choices for extension building materials are: traditional block building, a timber frame,
SIPs (structural insulated panels), and ICF (insulated concrete form work). Each of these materials
has their own unique pros and cons when utilized in home extension projects, but the 2 most
common choices for United Kingdom extension projects are timber frame and a traditional block
built extension with a traditional block built style being an ever enduring UK favourite, as the
energy costs in the United Kingdom are one of the highest priced in

Theories Of Progressive Education
Progressive Learning Theory in the US
Sarah Cooper Rashaell Keating
John Dewey s Progressive Learning Theory is defined as any various reformist educational
philosophies and methodologies since the late 1800s, applied especially to elementary schools, that
reject the rote recitation and strict discipline of traditional, single classroom teaching, favoring
instead more stimulation of the individual pupil as well as group discussion, more informality in
the classroom, a broader curriculum, and use of laboratories, gymnasiums, etc. in the school. It is
essentially an umbrella theory for many theories that have contributed to what is known as,
Progressive Education.
Key Influences Friedrich Wilhelm August Fröbel (1782 1852) was a German pedagogue and
educator who first coined the term kindergarten in 1840. His main contribution was realizing the
importance of activity of the child, such as free work and games, in learning and that each child
learns differently and has different capabilities. He was a student of Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi
(1746 1827) who felt that individuals best learned through experiences and through a direct
manipulation and experience of objects and children were intrinsically motivated.
Johann Friedrich Herbart (1776 1841) was a German philosopher, psychologist and founder of
pedagogy as an academic discipline. According to Herbart, abilities were not innate but could be
instilled, so a thorough education could provide the framework for moral and

Enduring Love Wickham In Pride And Prejudice
Cowans 4 why he disliked Wickham and how he took advantage of his sister. Elizabeth still
wasn t convinced. Elizabeth had lost trust in Darcy and he would have to earn her trust again.
Elizabeth and Jane returned home after all this had happened. Upon returning home they find
out that their younger sister was trying to leave with Colonel Forster and his wife. Elizabeth
warned her father that this would be a bad idea to left Lydia go. Mr. Bennet decided to let Lydia
go any way. Austen really made it seem like these people were running from or to their problems

Wickham. Once Darcy learned of this news from Elizabeth, he felt somewhat responsible because
he didn t tell anyone about Wickham evil behavior. The Gardiner took Elizabeth back to Longbourn
to be with her family. Mrs. Bennet was being crazy as usual and then they learned that Wickham
had gambling debts. None of this news was good. Mr. Bennett and Mr. Gardiner were looking for
Lydia and Wickham, but after no luck Mr. Bennet returned home. Mr. Gardiner continued to look
and found them. Wickham said he would marry Lydia but there is a price. He wants her father to
give her equal shares of his wealth. Mr. Bennet was still confused about who paid Wickham debts.
He thought that maybe Mr. Gardiner did it. Even though Lydia married a crook, her motherwas still
excited that one of her daughter was married. Mrs. Bennet was only focused on getting her
daughter married and not their well being. Lydia and Wickham came back to visit and Lydia told
Elizabeth that Darcy was at her wedding to Wickham. At issue are assumptions about the

A Planar Dual-Band Filter based on the Reduced Length...
A Planar Dual Band Filter based on the Reduced Length Parallel Coupled Lines
Seungku Lee and Yongshik Lee, Member, IEEE
Sowmya Ravichandran
Review paper summary: A Dual Band Filter is obtained by cascading the reactively loaded parallel
coupled lines of reduced length ( гЂ–90гЂ—^0).The proposed filter have same electrical
performance at both the passbands at frequencies f1 and mf1, where m is the frequency of
separation between the two passbands. A complete set of design equations are derived for arbitrary
number of Filter stages using standard filter synthesis technique. This provides simple, low cost and
high performance filter with multiple bands.
Introduction: Multiple channels are used by most of the modern communication devices. So ...

The ports 2 and 3 can be made open or short. This design operates only at one frequency (f1).The
equation for designing this filter is derived by even and odd mode analysis. The bandwidth of the
filter with dual band is less compared to the conventional filter with single frequency of operation.
This reduction in bandwidth is due to the Shunt stubs which are used to load the parallel coupled
lines.
Novel Design: The electrical length of the coupled line is reduced to гЂ–34.84гЂ—^0 . This
decrease in length can be obtained only by increasing the frequency of separation m to 4.167.Hence
the passband frequencies thus obtained are 2.4GHz and 10GHz.The even and mode impedances of
the coupled line and the impedance of the shunt stub are calculated using the filter design equations.
The shunt impedance value is found to be decreased when compared to filter with length
гЂ–56.8421гЂ—^0.The bandwidth at both the frequencies are increased to 216MHz for a filter
with 9% fractional bandwidth at 2.4GHz and 2.16% fractional bandwidth at 10GHz.Thus a
reduced length filter would have increased bandwidth and decreased stub impedance. A graph is
plotted for frequency Vs insertion loss. The insertion loss is found to be 0.66dB at 2.4GHz and
19.8dB at 10GHz.A better insertion loss of 2.9dB is obtained with a little shift in the frequency at
12.1GHz.

Effects Of Colonialism In Jamaica
Like many other aspects of the Jamaican way of life, colonialism has shaped the way the media in
Jamaica functions, but the country has managed to maintain large elements of its culture.
In an article written in the Jamaica Observer, Haughton (2017) describes the state of Jamaica as an
under developed child who continues to depend on its parents for approval. For many years
colonialism milked Jamaica and other Caribbean countries by imposing a false identity on our
people, diminishing resources that affected growth and development (Haughton, 2017).
This false identity to which Haugthon refers, is indicative of how most countries that were
colonies operate. This has impacted the way we dress, speak and relate to each other. Stone (1992)
posits that the because the social ideology of plantation society defined black people as being ...

This ultimately impacts the operations of the media in that country since the media function as a
conduit of information and cultural trends.
Burton (2015) in her Journal, Globalisation and Cultural Identity in Caribbean Society: The
Jamaican Case, however points out that Jamaica has a unique culture and this has shaped how that
countries adapts to the effects of colonialism and even globalisation.
In what the author describes as Glocalisation , it is noted that in Jamaica, Western cultural patterns
are domesticated and adapted within the cultural pattern of the Jamaican society. In other words,
Jamaicans fuse most of what the world offers with aspects of their culture.
The idea that the Jamaican cultural identity, and by extension the Jamaican s understanding of the
self, may be lost by the presence of globalising forces can be resisted by recognising that there is an
appropriation process that occurs and that this process has an underlying instrumental methodology
(Burton, 2015). This is evident in how the country treats with it food and

Analysis Of Ordinary People
In the film Ordinary People, we see the main protagonist, Conrad, suffer from major depressive
disorder. Throughout the film, he shows symptoms of depression through challenges regulating
sleep, depressed mood, thoughts of death and suicide, along with multiple other symptoms. The
Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders or the DSM V, lists the symptoms of
depressionas: depressed mood most of the time, reduced interest or enjoyment in most activities,
challenges regulating appetite and weight, challenges regulating sleep, physical agitation or
lethargy, having much less energy, unwarranted guilt, problems thinking, concentrating, or making
decisions, and thinking of death and suicide(Meyers, 629).

Regarding psychological functioning, Conrad is under the vicious cycle of depression. His
brother s death led him to adapt a negative explanatory style. This in turn resulted in his
depressed mood and cognitive and behavioral changes. He also believes that he has disobeyed
his parents and does not deserve their forgiveness or affection (1:09:38). Conrad lives with a
sense of guilt, not only for attempting suicide, but for things he had no control over (ex. Karen s
death). From a socio cultural approach, Conrad depression worsens due to his unstable
relationship with his mother, along with other relationships in his life. Throughout the movie, we
clearly see that Conrad s mother does not understand the severity of Conrad s mental state. She
frequently believes that Conrad is fine and wants their lives to get back to normal (0:24:37). She
believes Conrad s mental health is a phase that can be fixed by simply being harder on him. The
movie also takes place in a time where discussing mental health is taboo. Mental illness was
significantly less common and thought to be a touchy subject. Throughout the movie, we can see
that people do not know how to approach the Jarretts about Conrad s state and frequently stumble
through conversations or do not understand the situation (0:22:14; 0:31:52; 0:48:05). This plays a
part in Conrad s depression because he feels he can t talk to or relate to anyone

Comparison Of Harper s Weekly And Time Magazine
Have you ever thought about what people back in the day read in their spare time since we all
just immediately get on our phones? I compared and contrasted the August 2015 Time magazine,
and the June 4th 1864 edition of Harper s Weekly. I have come to the realization that when
people say times have changed, they are not kidding. It is crazy to read in between the lines and
see how Americans lived over 150 years ago. The way things are placed and discussed are very
different in both Harper s Weekly and TimeMagazine, but the two are similar in some ways also.
Although there are many differences between the two, there are some similarities. I found that both
have an article or two about foreign countries. By having these articles this means that Americans
have always been interested in what other countries are up to. For example, in Time Magazine on
page 11 there is an article written by Julia Zorthian that talks about Brazil turning against their
president, and the antigovernment rallies. Another example in Time Magazine is on page 40 and it
talks about the explosion that happened in a chemical warehouse in Tianjin, China. They said that
this explosion is a symbol of the way others look at China. The covers on both of the magazines are
pictures of political figures that are impacting and did impact Americans in the United States. In
Time Magazine Donald Trump is on the cover, and in Harper s Weekly William T. Sherman is on
the front page. While Sherman did something brave

The Ways Punk Culture has been Used
Punk has influenced and has been influenced by popular culture in a number of ways. Since the
beginning of the subculture, major label record labels, haute couture, and the mass media have
attempted to use punk for profit and popularity. Punk fashion is the clothing, hairstyles,
cosmetics, jewelry, and body modifications of the punk subculture. Many punks use clothing as a
way of making a statement. First days of punk took place in London in the middle of the 70 s.
Young teenagers and rebel followers of a new music style created it, called punk. One of the most
popular music groups was the Sex Pistols launched by Malcolm McLaren. His partner was the great
Vivenne Westwood, one of the most popular fashion designers. Punk rockwas an intentional rebuttal
of the perceived excess and pretension found in mainstream music and culture. It seems the world
of fashion has seen everything already. And punk style fascination and shocking is a real past. It
developed so many ways, that we are used to see someone originally dressed.
Music is the most important aspect of punk. Punk music is called punk rock, sometimes shortened
to punk. Punk subcultures often distinguish themselves by having a unique style of punk rock,
though not every style of punk rock has its own associated subculture. Most punk rock involves
simple arrangements, short songs and lyrics that espouse punk values. Punk rock is usually played
in bands, as opposed to solo artists. A variety of dances are popular within

How Does Bradbury Use Technology In Fahrenheit 451
We use technology everyday. Smartphones, tablets, TV and computers are devices that we use to
communicate with others and can be used for education. Technology has even saved lives, in
hospitals or tracking a dangerous person; but in Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, technology was
made to look evil and what causes people to be unhappy, but Bradbury s actual warning was not to
abuse technology. The government in Bradbury s society had used technology as a way to control
the citizens. Isolation, and the lack of humanity is a result of the control of technology. Bradbury
had created the brainwashed society to show us, the reader, how important it is to not abuse
technology, because then we can be more human and be much more happier. Ray Bradburys

After telling her to think, Mrs. Phelps just said she was going home to watch the parlor. Even
when someone is given the opportunity to think, they pass it up to watch TV, because of how
they were taught to only watch TV when they feel anything. The government has created this
control so that they can hold on to power without threats or questions from their citizens. Without
the threat of an uprising in their society, Fahrenheit 451 s government is able to hold on to their
power. The control is so great, that no one cares for their actual family. She [Mildred] shoved the

nodded. But her friends turned in an alarm earlier, that I let ride. One way or the other, you d have

The Demise Of The Andersen Accounting
The Enron scandal was one of the most notorious bankruptcies of all time. Many people know about
the energy titan s downfall but less realize that it was also one of the biggest auditing blunders in
American corporate history, leading to the dissolution of the Arthur Andersen LLP, which at the
time was one of the five largest auditing and accountancy partnerships in the world. The most
intriguing aspect of this case is that Andersen was eventually cleared by the United States Supreme
Court, yet the company still failed to live on due to its tarnished reputation stemming from its
unethical behaviors. The pressure to generate revenue for clients while simultaneously auditing
their books became too large a burden for the firm and they eventually resorted to unethical means
to achieve their objectives. The demise of the Andersen accounting firm shows the true importance
of practicing good ethicsand maintaining a good reputation amongst peers; the vitality of the
business could depend on sustaining a clean image in the ever changing business world. Although
there were many problems that led to Andersen s demise, the major ethical issue that plagued the
accounting firm was a conflict of interest due to their dual roles as both an auditing and consulting
firm. Andersen provided financial advice to clients in order to increase revenue streams. The firm
was very adept at this; in fact, by the the end of the 20th century, Andersen LLP had helped tripled

Essay Bulimia Nervosa
BULIMIA NERVOSA 307.51 (F50.2)
Introduction
Individuals diagnosed with bulimia nervosa undertake frequent binge eating, followed by expelling
the food, typically by inducing vomiting, but also through exercising and the use of laxative agents,
diuretics, and enemas (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). The binge eating occurrences are
often prompted by a negative perception of one s body image, temporarily alleviated by the binge
eating episode. Since the individual with bulimia nervosa is overanxious about body weight,
purging of the food is viewed as a necessity. This is in contrast to binge eating disorder, which does
not involve the purging of food after an excess of food consumption (Bulik et al., 2012).
Furthermore, although ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is an additional feature that must be present alongside these symptoms in order for a
patient to be diagnosed with bulimia nervosa: any binge eating events followed by compensation
needs to be relatively frequent. Specifically, if these events take place at a minimum of one time
per week over a 3 month timespan then a diagnosis of bulimia nervosa may be made. Although
these are the symptoms that must be present in order for a diagnosis of bulimia nervosa to be
made, there are often other symptoms that accompany bulimia nervosa. Signs of psychosis have
been found in patients with eating disorders like bulimia nervosa (Miotto et al., 2010). Moreover,
those with bulimia nervosa frequently have the feeling that there is something flawed with their
mind, and that others are at fault for their problems (Miotto et al., 2010). In addition, there is
evidence that a feeling of loneliness is correlated with the occurrence of bulimia nervosa (Levine,
2012), highlighting the psychological dynamics that are at play behind this disorder.
Causes of Bulimia Nervosa: from genetics to environment
The environmental and biological mechanisms that underlie bulimia nervosa have been researched
in some depth. The principle mechanisms that give rise to bulimia nervosa may be classified into
two groups: genetic variables at play and environmental factors that impact the patient.
There is a considerable body of evidence

Evidence Based Practice Examples
In order for Evidenced based practice (EBP) to be successfully adopted and maintained, nurses
and other healthcare professionals realize that it has to be adopted by individual providers,
microsystems and system leaders, as well as policy makers. Federal, state, local, and other
regulatory bodies are necessary for EBP adoption. An example of this is the mark of excellence in
nursing used by the Magnet Recognition Program (Stevens, 2013). The development of evidenced
based practice is fueled by the increasing public and professional demand for accountability in
safety and quality improvement in healthcare (Stevens, 2013). An example of federal program that
has emerged because of EBP is Congress funding the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute
(PCORI) with the following mission: The PCORI helps people make informed healthcare decisions,
and improves healthcare delivery and outcomes, by producing and promoting high integrity,
evidence based information that comes from research guided by patients, caregivers and the
broader healthcare community (PCORI, 2013).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Misconception about EBP from older nurses not educated on EBP that are not computer literate
find using EBP searching tools too time consuming. This is a barrier to consistent use of EBP
among nurses (Melnyk, Fineout Overholt, Stillwell, and Williamson, 2010). Melnyk et.al (2010)
provide examples of this in practice such as: the use of Beta blockers in patients with tachycardia
and the level of head elevation with increased intracranial pressure. Another example is the
initiation of rapid response teams reducing the rates of in hospital cardiac arrests and unplanned
ICU admissions.

Betrayal and Deception in The Great Gatsby by F. Scott...
Betrayal, a deception of a presumption which then produces conflict between a relationship.
Friends and family members have the power to betray us any second. We view them as an
extension of ourselves; someone we can confide in. Your notion about them could be completely
false for the betrayal they are capable of. Betrayal could be hidden in the shadows of a
relationship between you and a friend, a special bond, or even a family member. Betrayal could be
found within a nonfictional or fictional novel, play, poem, movie and even picture.
The Great Gatsby is a novel written by F. Scott Fitzgerald in 1925. In his novel, he displays a lot of
symbols, and themes including wealth, greed, and of course, betrayal. Betrayal can upset many
people and ruin many people. Betrayal was demonstrated throughout the entire novel with a lot
of connections. Three situations I had talked about were Gatsby betrayed by Daisy, Tom
cheating on Daisy with Myrtle and when no one attends Gatsby s funeral. The first relationship
explained is Tom and Daisy Buchanan. Tom is a very powerful domineering man, very self
centered and self absorbed, while Daisy is a beautiful lady, with a rousing voice, but also very
self centered as well. Tom and Daisy s relationship had undergoing stress. Daisy knows how to
push all of Tom s buttons and how hard to push them. Daisy tells Nick how cynical she is about

Literary Devices In If You Forget About Me By Pablo Neruda
Love loves to love love. James Joyce. Regardless of geography, gender, sexual orientation, religion,
race, education or economic status humankind desires love, and it s through literature and art that
we find a universal connection provided by the artist or author, and oftentimes advice to help us
cope with our humanity. For instance in If You Forget About Me , poet Pablo Neruda uses literary
devices such as tone and metaphor to represent how lovecan be romantic, yet volatile. For
example, Neruda uses a switch in tone from the beginning where the speaker is loving and
romantic describing how, everything carries me to you (Neruda 11). The tone changes in the
middle of the poem, becoming ominous, Well, now, if little by little you stop loving me I shall
stop loving you little by little. (Neruda 17 19). These quotes show how love can mean everything
and nothing at the same time, the speaker describes in the first quote how everything in his life
revolves around his lover but if he/she decides to fall out of love he will easily do the same.
Neruda also uses a metaphor, leave me at the shore of the heart where I have roots, Remember
that on that day, at that hour, I shall lift my arms and my roots will set off to seek another land. (
Neruda 28 35). I believe the shore represents home, if the speaker s love leaves him/her stranded
they will quickly move on to find someone new to fill their place. Humans will constantly seek love

The Crisis On The Real Estate Market
House bubble situation on the real estate market is presented by condition when there are low
supply and high demand at the same time, which causes shortage on the market. (Yoshino,

who are buying houses with the goal to resell it in the short term. These conditions appeared on
London real estatemarket and caused В«Bubble TroubleВ». This essay will discuss main causes of
the bubble, matters of its bursting and danger, connected with bursting.
Very high indexes of demand in London are mostly caused by several components, such as:
desirability of London, job opportunities and real estate market seen as investment.
London is considered to be one of the most desirable cities to work and live in (Kollewe, 2014).
One of the reasons of this indicator is connected with В«best jobs and economic opportunities .

Alienation In A Rose For Emily
A Rose for Emily : Death By the Community In A Rose For Emily, William Faulkner portrays how
crippling alienation and slanderous gossip transform Emily Grierson into an unstable necrophile
and murderer. The townspeople regard Miss Emily as a symbol of their dignified past, but become
overcritical and apathetic towards her as events unfold. Even though Miss Emily is highly thought
of, women in the community display little sympathy or compassion after the deathof her father, a
reaction that ultimately negatively impacts her ability to behave within an ordinary civilization.
However, when the townspeople show a blatant disregard for Emily, they fail to recognize that she
is damaged and deranged. They do not consider her feelings in the disastrous life around her, and
even exclaim , ... it would be the best thing if she killed herself (Faulkner). The townspeople
discard her as a lost cause, allowing her to harbor the detrimental feelings she has towards the
loss of her father. Although many may argue that Miss Emily s actions are caused by a mental
disorder, the townspeople s apathy, neglect, and inability to recognize her true feelings are the
real cause of her scandalous actions. In Miss Emily s early life, Miss Emily s father pushes
everybody away from her because of his arrogance. In her father s eyes, nobody is suitable for her
traditional figure that her family upholds. The townspeople believes that the Griersons family sees

The system of serfdom is where an agricultural worker in feudal Russia who cultivates land and

which are tied to Russia as a nation. The defeat in the Crimean war for example was a huge blow

Because when isolated is not a problem but when it is joint effort then there is purpose and goals
behind it. Then real reforms have to happen because of the amount of numbers. Russian peasants
accounted for eighty per cent of the Russian population at this time. When eighty per cent of your
population wants something and is not opposed to take things by force then there are serious
problems for the Russian autocracy.
The positive side of the emancipation of the serfs was plentiful in its achievements. The
emancipation was a prelude to the most sustained program of sustained reform that imperial
Russia had experienced. It also accomplished these great reforms without violence or mass
coercion. It is pretty evident that the only way that this could have been achieved was through a
government of an absolute ruler; it could have not been done by a nation ruled by democracy.
The only other social change that is even comparable to the emancipation of the serfs is the
freeing of the African American slaves in 1865. However this should still be held to a lesser
degree the emancipation of the serfs. This is because some fifty million serfs were set free without
any violent implications or precursors. [2]
A key reform falling on the positive side of the emancipation was the restructuring of the local
government. The land from the landowner was granted to the commune and not the peasant.[3]
These peasant communes were responsible

Watership Down Have you ever wondered how rabbits lived? How they get food or sleep or live?
This book tells you about that and it also tells of an adventure of a couple rabbits trying to find a
new Warren. The beginning of the story start off in a warren. The two main characters are Hazel
and his brother Fiver. Fiver is a special rabbit, meaning he knows when something is not right and
can sense it. One night Fiver got the sense that something bad was going to happen to their
warren. He told Hazel about it. Hazel knew that when Fiver got these feelings he was mostly
right. They went to the chief and told him about it, however, the chief did not believe them.
When they went back to their whole they decided they would leave the next night, and maybe
get some rabbits to go with them. They would have to keep it on the down low so they wouldn t
get caught by the Owsla. Owsla was like the rabbits body guard for the chief and acted like police
officers to the other rabbits. They would pick the biggest and the strongest of the rabbits. They left
the next night with a good group of rabbits. The rabbits who went were Bigwig, Blackberry, Silver,
Dandelion,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When they got there they had to make their own warren. The rabbits at first didn t know what to
do because they never saw a warren get built before. It usually was the Does named for lady
rabbits who made the holes in the warren. They had an idea of how the warren was supposed to
look like, and they started to build it. Hazel was the one who over looked all the work. One night
while they were eating and resting they heard a noise. All the rabbits went into the warren and
Hazel and another rabbit went to see what the noise was. They found out that it was Holly and
Bluebell. Holly was the captain of the Owsla and Bluebell was one of the Owsla. They knew
Bigwig and was looking for him. Just like Fiver instinct told him their warren was in danger.

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Chipotle
Chipotle ventured into a new territory when it was created, as it had an innovative vision for fast
casual restaurants. By using fresh and quality ingredients, Chipotle raised the bar in their segment.
The service line where customers could see their order being prepared enhanced the experience of
Chipotle. Consumers who were used to eating at fast casual restaurants where the food was frozen
and made out of sight were able to savor the uniqueness of Chipotle. These differences helped
Chipotle become successful. However, as competitors copy the traits that make Chipotle unique,
Chipotle must adapt and overcome in order to remain a profitable company. Chipotle saw an
opportunity in the fast casual restaurant industry and launched an innovative concept. It believes
that fresh and quality ingredients are key and that customers are willing to pay more for such
ingredients. To ensure such ingredients, Chipotle uses a large amount of organic food in their
restaurants. This not only creates fresher and healthier food options for consumers, but also assists
local farms that supply the organic food. Not only does Chipotle use organic food, but it uses
produce that is in season. This reduces the costs of transporting produce and ensures that the
ingredients are fresh. While competitors attempt to replicate the menu, style, and flavors of
Chipotle, they do not have the resources to use organic ingredients as efficiently as Chipotle does.

Leadership Opportunities Of The Youth Association Pee Wee...
Leadership opportunities abound not only in the work setting, but in churches, communities, and
neighborhoods as well. By taking on community leadership roles, individuals give back to the
community and gain valuable experience that will serve them well in the workplace. In my own
experience, I led the Chantilly Youth Association Pee Wee Soccer program for three years. In this
capacity, I created schedules, reserved fields and gyms, ordered uniforms, arranged for the
training of officials, collected money, and created teams for over 500 young children. I had a
vision for the program and helped it grow.
While Pee Wee Soccer is not rooted in a faith filled tradition, faith based leadership skills apply.
Running such a large program affords the opportunity to teach as Jesus did, at least with respect to
community and service, and gain valuable insight into organizational behavior. Perhaps the most
essential lesson learned is that to be successful, it is important to consider the needs of everyone
involved, and not merely the needs of a few.
Catholic School Leadership
The skills gained through Pee Wee Soccer prepared me well for the leadership roles I undertook
in my early years as a Catholic school teacher. Whether in the role as Math Committee chairperson
or as leader of the Word Study program, developing a vision, articulating that vision, and seeing it
through to completion helped me gain support from my peers and colleagues as I took on more
responsibility and further

The Importance Of College In College
College is something that every high school student looks forward to, and whether they get a
bachelor s degree or doctorates, they can expect to be more successful in the future than those
who don t go to college. However, as with every college, we must prove ourselves with more than
just grades and extracurriculars, but also with personality and how we learn from failure. This is
what I have to present to you today, my personality, feats, and faults, and how I have grown over
the past 2 decades.
Like all people, I do have a creative side, and it is the side of me that I prefer to show off. I can be
innovative, comedic, helpful, and just overall a great person to talk to. Whenever I talk, whether it
be my friends or people I know from class, I always try my best to slip a joke in based on the
situation, whether it be a pun, punch line or just be funny in general. It always brings a smile to
my face to make others smile and feel good. While this holds true, I am also able to focus and be
helpful to the group. I like to help in any way that I can, because in a way, helping people is like
telling a good joke, if done right, it can make people happy and smile. Being a leader is not what
I prefer to do, I d much rather be a helpful part of the group, but if push comes to shove, I ll take
charge of the situation and lead the group. Other things that make me creative is my fondness of
fixing and creating things. I ve always liked taking a screwdriver to an object and seeing what

Planning And Scheduling Process Of Construction Sector Essay
LITERATURE REVIEW
Planning and scheduling process of construction sector has been undergoing various research since
1950s. The planning and scheduling processes for construction can be broadly classified into two
categories 1. Activity based planning methodologies and 2. Location based planning methodologies.
The activity based methodology is further subdivided as deterministic (Critical path method) and
probabilistic method (Program Evaluation and Review Technique). While location based
methodologies can be subdivided into unit production and location production.
Activity based scheduling methodology was developed in 1950s. The planning is done in
construction process by using network of activities in this methodology.
Location based methodology is based on the tracking of the crews working at various production
tasks. These techniques are adopted using various graphical methods. This technique was used as a
construction management system at the empire states building developed by goodyear company.
These techniques are widely adopted in continuous production facilities.it was considered that this
methodology requires repetition of activities and hence known as repetitive scheduling method
(RSM).
While this method is more concerned about movement o resources through various locations and
activities need not to be repetitive for adoption of this method. So rather than repetition this
methodology concentrates on tasks which are aggregated activities over various locations.

The Nazi Regime Enjoyed Broad Consent Brought About by...
As in any country, the support of the working classes was essential for Hitler to maintain the
power he had over Germany. Hitler s use of Strength through Joy holidays is the discussed topic
in the given sources. Whilst all sources show different opinions on this topic, they all agree that,
to a certain extent, that Hitler s use of popular policies was instrumental in his enormous support
base. Despite all sources coming from accredited historians it must also be considered that there
will always be an element of bias in people s work, and their opinions should not be taken as fact.
Source Y, written by Hans Dieter Schafer, suggests that Hitler played on state paternalism, by vastly

Without a designated union to fight for them, working classes could not bargain for higher
wages or shorter hours. Fest does not pretend that this was for the benefit of the people and
suggest that this sort of contempt for the working classes was typical of Hitler. The source
highlights the considerable deprivation of political rights which is a key theme within this
question, the overall feeling from source z is that the system which Hitler installed was not
successful, however, it can be strongly argued that is was, as seen in source y, his manipulation of
the lower classes provided Hitler with what can only be described as a mass following.
Both source y and z suggest that Hitler understood workers mentality; in contrast source aa
suggests that the regime believed Strength through Joy could have an ideological impact. What
this source, written by Richard Evans, shows is that the workers had no understanding, nor did
they care for politics, which is a strong contradiction to the theme in source z. It is suggested that
the working classes just saw the holidays as an escape from everyday life. However, where this
source is lacking is its lack of content over the cultural aspects of the holidays. It states that they
were appreciated , but is not conclusive as to whether the workers were won over by Nazism via the
programme. The general consensus as the end of this source is reached is that the programme was

Symbolism In Wise Blood By Flannery OConnor
Could I change it if I wanted, can I rise above the flood? / Will it wash out in the water, or is it
always in the blood? (Mayer). A question posed by the artist John Mayer holds true for the
characters in Flannery O Connor s most famous novel, Wise Blood. In this novel, O Connor
paints a picture of a small town in the heart of the Bible Belt and the internal struggle of its
inhabitants. The protagonist, Hazel Motes, procures a twisted version of the Gospel and
evangelizes to those who are made to believe they are lost. Yet, according to the teachings of Haze,
this picture that humans are inherently sinful and in need of saving is false. In this novel, Flannery
O Connor uses inanimate objects to show the attempts of Haze to replace what he knows to be
true. Enoch Emory, on the other hand, struggles with a curse he believes he was born with wise
blood. The prevalent themes of symbolism and imagery in Flannery O Connor s Wise Blood
represent the inner battle between spirituality and the human nature of rebellion.
Coming back from the war, Hazel Motes mindset is simple following a commission of sharing
his gospel. O Connor uses inanimate objects to draw comparisons and also contrast Haze s
secular and spiritual sides. One of the objects in Haze s life that becomes an obstacle for him is
his hat. The issue with Haze s hat is shown by saying, Haze had a stiff black broad brimmed hat
on his lap, a hat that an elderly country preacher would wear (O Connor 4). As Haze tries to
escape his preacher image, many around him see the hat as an indication of his spirituality. This
frustrates him, as he rejects any title that one may give him concerning religion. In Nervous
Shadow Walking Backwards, the author describes the reason why this affects Haze so much by
saying, In literature, a character s hat often symbolizes identity, the selfhood of the character. Haze s
hat is mistaken throughout the book as a preacher s hat, an identity that he rejects (Bolton 91).
Because of his desperation to escape this reputation, Haze purchases a new hat that,
counterintuitively, attracts the same comments as before. O Connor uses this hat to symbolize the
inability of Haze to escape the image he so intensely despises.

Rates of Violence
Rates of Violence Introduction Crime, according to Emile Durkheim, is a normal component of
society. The iconic psychologist said that in the 19th century. But crime is considered abnormal
in England, the United States, and in Canada; this paper presents data on the three nations
mentioned above. United States Murder: According to the FBI, there were an estimated 14,748
individuals murdered in 2010 in the U.S., which is down by 4.2 percent from 2009. There were
4.8 murders per 100,000 inhabitants and 44 percent of the murders took place in the South, 20.6
percent in the West, 19.9 percent in the Midwest and 15.6 percent in the Northeast. Aggravated
Assault: Also in 2010, there were an estimated 778,901 aggravated assaults in the United States,
the FBI reports. That is a decline by 4.1 percent from the year 2009, and a decline of 14.3 percent
from 2001. There were approximately 252.3 assaults per 100,000 people and 27.4 percent were
carried out with hands, fists, or feet ; 20.6 percent were committed using firearms; 19 percent
were committed with knives or other cutting instruments, the FBI reports. Forcible Rape: the
FBI report indicates an estimated 84,767 forcible rapes were reported in 2010, down 5 percent from
2009. There were 54.2 rapes per 100,000 females. Robbery: As to robberies in 2010, the FBI
estimates there were 367,832 robberies, that is down 10 percent from the data in 2009. There was

Water and Womanhood in Ancient Greece Essay
In the times of ancient Greece, there were ample tales, myths, and legends surrounding the realm
of the sea; many of which included fearsome beasts, epic struggles, and angered gods. There are
tales of vengeance, spite, cruelty, and rage, but there are also those of understanding, compassion,
helpfulness, and benevolence. When one subjects many of the more malevolent (and sometimes
disturbing) tales to closer inspection, it becomes fairly evident that a great number of these
stories use a feminine force in order to display the wraith of the sea and the sea gods or
goddesses. In fact, many sea monsters are said to be female including Charybdis and Scylla (the

In certain ways it represents the encircling and productive forces that are often related to women as
well; the safety of the womb, the feminine forces of creativity and intuition. Water was also
commonly used in rituals of rebirth or transformation something which was greatly connected to the
female menstrual cycle in terms of symbolic meaning. Many cultures other than the ancient Greeks
had creation myths which involved water to a great extent as well, especially portraying it as a
source of life and the essence of which all life is formed. It is even said that it was from the
divine waters of the Mother s womb that life came into existence (Laoupi, Pararas Carayannis)
which encompasses both water and womanhood in one fell swoop. Additionally, the cultural role
of women was one which was steeped in productivity and aid. This shows yet another parallel
aspect which womanhood and water share; the creation, nurturing, and sustaining of life. Both
water and women have the capability to bear children as well as protect and provide for them.
Though it can be incredibly productive, water also symbolizes a great destructive power, for in
large quantities it can completely destroy and eradicate entire cities, or even states should they be
so small. Through symbolism, water and womanhood are connected, and it is not necessarily
always in a positive manor. Not only are there symbols that connect womanhood to water, but the

Substance Abuse And Alcohol Abuse
Adolescence is the period when children socially grow and develop into adults. It is also during this
time, that many children start to experiment with drugs and alcohol. According to Dictionary.com,
substance abuse is long term, pathological use of alcohol or drugs, characterized by daily
intoxication, inability to reduce consumption, and impairment in social or occupational
functioning; broadly, alcohol or drug addiction. While many adolescents may just experiment,
addiction and abuse of substances is a very real possibility. Sharma found that most drug and
alcohol users began using between the ages of fifteen and eighteen. The most common reasons
given to them for initiation were peer influence, curiosity, and sense of growth (2015).... Show more

These reasons are dangerous to any person but have extra danger to a socially developing
adolescent. Children in this age range should not have to depend on a mind altering substance to
learn to manage stress, be friends with their peers, or feel good. These life skills need to be
developed naturally with no help from addictive substances. If a person uses a crutch at the time
of development, it will be harder to feel good, socialize, cope with stress, and find belonging later
in life without the crutch. This is why adolescent substance abuse is something that children should
be educated on and helped correctly if a habit does form. If helped incorrectly, the negative reaction
could do more harm than good for the socially developing adolescent.
Risk Behavior Perception Since substance abuse and experimentation begins around the time of
adolescence, school counselors must know how to deal with it and other risk behaviors.
Counselors need to look for signs of danger, be aware of them, and know how intervene if
necessary. Nagel, Scherer, and Lee interviewed public high schooland middle school counselors
about their perceptions on adolescent risk behavior. Nagel et al. measured the counselor s
perceptions on substance abuse, delinquency, risky sexual behavior, and sensation seeking. The
results showed that school counselors considered substance abuse more serious and critical than
other risk taking

The Applications Of The Iot
Whether one is a student or a teacher, he/she will not go through a school day without being
exposed to a device connected to the Internet. The applications of the IoT in education are endless,
and the results are extremely favorable for the student, teacher, and the university. For example, the
emergence of the IoT allows schools to enhance access to information, keep track of key
information and resources, and improve the safety of their campuses [5]. Professors can spend
anywhere from 12 14 hours in a day teaching, working with individual students, and/or grading
assignments and tests. The surge in connected IoT devices does not require professors to manually
grade assignments; therefore, they are provided extra time to use as they please. Also, devices
connected to the cloud allow professors to gather information on their students; this data can then
be used for two things. First, the data acknowledges which students require the most individual
attention, need, and care. Second, teachers can adjust their teaching strategies or lesson plans for
future classes by analyzing the received data. From a student standpoint, IoT devices and
applications allow the student to capture notes quickly and effectively, eliminating the time to
manually write the notes; this allows the student to focus on the lecture that is being presented [5].
The transportation sector can also be loosely connected from an education standpoint. Using IoT
devices, students can keep track of buses and

Eastwood s Sudden Impact Film Analysis
In the first scene of Eastwood s Sudden Impact, the audience is presented with a scene in which
a car is surrounded by thick, dark fog, making the background difficult to make out. If not for the
diegetic sound of the crashing waves a few hundred feet below the edge of the near by precipice,
the audience would have a lack of sense of location. Already, the scene has an ominous feel to it
thanks to the darkness of the scene and the remoteness of the location where nobody is there to
witness what is about to happen, and just like that, the audience knows Eastwood has put
somebody to no good. The scene switches to the likewise dark interior of the car, in which a man

William Munny s best friend, was beaten to death by Little Bill, the sheriff in Big Whiskey, for
the murder that Munny and the kid committed, Munny decides to take justice into his own

the murderers (Munny and the kid). The whorehouse is also very dimly lit, allowing Munny to

Argumentative Speech On Gas Prices
How many of you have ever sat down and thought hmm I wonder what causes gas prices to
fluctuate. There is always someone wondering what gas prices may look like five years from
now. In 1998 gas cost Americans less than one dollar a gallon, which would be less than $15 to
fill up if your car required a 15 gallon tank. As Americans, we are known to fear the fluctuation of
gas prices, because we are human. As an average American living in poverty, it becomes quite
frightening to think of rising gas prices. I wonder sometimes if I would be able to afford to put
gas in my car to travel to and from school and work on a weekly basis. Here s a quote they

Essay On Great War Propaganda
This time in history, not ironically called the Great War, was basically marked by putting mass
in front of many invaluable terms, such as mass society, mass culture, mass production, mass
mobilization and mass consumption. Mass culture was spread by the rising amount of
propaganda utilized during this time. Propaganda in the Great War was an imperative part for
the development of support, more specifically nationalism, which lead to a great amount of
success for certain countries. Culture was shifting during this time due to skyrocketing
popularity of radio and film. These technological advances made it easier for the views of the elite,
and those in power, to spread their views to all citizens, as even radios had a place in most homes.
The popularity of the radio was common regardless of class situation, which is very rare. The radio
also lead mass... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This supports the fact that people enjoyed being informed, even though the news featured on the
radio they were hearing resembled more of advertising than anything else. This ties into mass
production. This time era was shortly after the Industrial Revolution, which means the factories
had time to improve on previous issues and make industry as efficient as possible at the time.
Industry produced goods at a much more rapid rate than previously, which made radios be made
more available on the market, along with automobiles. The famous Henry Ford s mass production
of Ford vehicles also displays this consumption. Ford vehicles were rising in demand, and highly
desired throughout the US during this time. As the assembly line was being perfected, production
increased and prices sank. This lead to even greater mass consumption. After the Great War the
entire world seemed to be on a path of competing for the biggest and best items and governments
possible, in the least amount of

Man In The Mirror by Michael Jackson
Man in the Mirror , a song released in 1988 on Michael Jackson s seventh album BAD . In this
song, Michael Jackson s purpose is to exhort me, you and everyone who listens to this song to start
with themselves if they want to make the world a better place.
When Michael Jackson released this song, there were hunger and endless wars in some parts of
the world, mainly in Africa. A large number of children was starving to death in those areas.
Michael, through his song, called out people to make a difference in the world by first taking a
look and examine themselves Man in the Mirror.
His intended audience for this song is everyone who listens to this song. ... Show more content on

The listener hears these words by Michael but these words seem to describe our daily experience.
This makes an appeal to pathos, stirring emotions. Michael wants the listener to remember that
there are people in our communities who suffer and that we should first care about them rather than
pretending not to see that they need our help.
As I turned up the collar on my favorite winter coat this wind is blowing my mind.
Although he can remove himself physically from the problems he sees all around him using his
winter coat as a physical protector Michael can t escape or run away from the torment of his own
mind, knowing there s more he can do to change the world.

Freud Vs Erikson Research Paper
Sigmund Freud s psychosexual theory and Erik Erikson s psychosocial theory are two important
and well known psychoanalytic theories on human development. Both theories are often
compared and contrasted in developmental studies. Like Freud, Erikson also believed that
human development occurs in a series of stages of a person s life. However, Freud s theory
focuses on basic needs and biological impulses like the need for food and sexual behaviors in the
early stages of life. While Erikson s theory emphasized on environment experiences and social
interactions throughout the early and later stages of life.
In the first year of development, the oral stage by Freud and the trust vs. mistrust stage by Erikson,
both psychologists believed children develop a sense of trust during this stage. Whereas through

In the 2nd stage, year 1 to 3, Freud described this as the anal stage and Erikson described this as
autonomy vs. shame and doubt. Both believed children develop the sense of independent at this
stage. During the 3rd stage, ages 3 6, we begin to see the differences in both Freud s and Erikson s
theories. Freud called this stage the phallic stage. During this stage Freud believed children begin
to develop pleasure in genitals, recognize their gender and develop self esteem. Erikson referred
this stage as initiative vs. guilt as children begin their preschool years. Children begin to face new
challenges, explore beyond themselves and develop a sense of initiative. If criticized or punished
they begin to feel guilty for their actions. Ages 7 to 11 is the 4th developmental stage. Freud

Ancient Mayan Society
How could societies from hundreds of years ago influence both the past and the present? When
historians and archaeologists look back on the thriving communities of the Maya, Aztecs, and Inca
their question is answered. These societies were introduced many products and ideas. The Mayan,
Aztecan, and Incan societies heavily influenced the past as well as the present. The Maya, Aztecs,
and Inca were tremendously influential in their prime and their legacy . Looking at the Maya, the
first accomplishment that they achieved was creating accurate calendars by studying stars and
astrology. This helped the society know the dates of important events like deaths or annual festivals.
One of the other accomplishments of the ancient Mayan

Psychological Process Analysis
Description of Psychological process:
When I began examining specific cross cultural differences in psychological processes, a particular
example that resonated heavily and constantly in my head came from the original article called:
Cultural and Educational Influences on Pain of Childbirth by Dr. Matisyohu Weisenberg and
Zahava Caspi. In this study the authors examined the effects that educational history and differing
sociocultural families of origin have on communicated ratings of pain and specific pain behavior
prevalent during childbirth (Weisenberg et al., 1989). On a more elementary level, the authors
investigated the disparities in how people verbally and physically react to pain prevalent during
childbirth based upon differences in cultural and educational influences.
In order to quantitatively measure the pain perceived ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After describing universally high levels of pain prevalent during child birthing, the researchers go
on to describe that the women in the lower education group were more susceptible to higher levels
of pain ranking and pain behavior across both cultures. By partaking in more years of school,
women become more likely to understand the process, pains, and experience endured by women
during the delivery process helping them mentally prepare for childbirth. Previously in the
article we can see that preparation leads to lower pain behavior yet it doesn t affect pain ranking
(Weisenberg et al., 1989). Prevalent in a study done by Bonnel and Boureau (Bonnel, 1985) we
can see that the pain behaviors, actually, have more to do with self control. With school testing
our self control on a daily basis through a heavy workload and strict management of our grades it
is no wonder why women with increased levels of education rank their pain as

James Thurber-Humor in Fiction
James Thurber was one of the most influential and unforgettable writers of his kind. He made
modern day problems seem preventable in the minds of people, and he tried to make them realize
that the problems had to have a source. Thurber wrote of people struggling with day to day life
that was once trouble free and drew his ideas of humanity losing the direction it once had in the
past. He attributed this change to wandering minds and ignorant actions on man s behalf. James
Thurber used his artistic and creative abilities to make a point of humanshortcomings through
ingenious writings and comical sketches. James Oliver Thurber, a satirical, Ohio born writer, was
born in Columbus on December 8, 1894. Thurber wrote of himself that he was... Show more content

One of Thurber s choice ways of communicating with the masses was through writing magazine
articles, short stories, essays, and children s books. His uncanny take on his writing usually
brought laughter and enjoyment to its readers with descriptions of wild and ridiculous events
being his number one source of absurdity. Among them were Many Moons, a story of a daughter
of royalty who refused to make herself better after overeating until she was given the moon, and
The Wonderful O, the tale of a pirate who travels to the island of Ooroo to find jewels. When the
pirate leaves empty handed, he banishes all words containing the letter o. The moral to the fairy
tale was words containing that vowel were vital in the world and among the necessary words was
freedom (Morsberger Suppl. 1:612). When it came to more important matters, Thurber had the
views of many of today s modern thinkers, and it was reflected in his work. He saw the human as
more harmful than helpful to the world as a whole. In his Interview with a Lemming, the creature
being interrogated by a scientist calls humans murderous, maladjusted, maleficent, malicious, and
muffle headed. The scientist proceeds to tell him that he agrees with the observation, but he can not
seem to understand why lemmings hurry to the sea to drown themselves. The lemming curtly
replies, How curious. The one thing I don t understand is why you humans don t (Morsberger
Suppl. 1:603). His take on

Taking a Look at Tracheobroncomalacia
Imagine if you had to quit all physical activity, all sports, all hobbies. Imagine if you cough and
cough but nothing can or will ever come out. Your sleeping is even affected when you cannot
even lie down but have to prop yourself up on pillows. You then have to watch out for the
different airborne diseases that can work their way into their body and can potentially be fatal.
All those simple diseases such as strep throat, common colds, or any other respiratory illness that
you use to breeze right through. Knowing everyday that this will affect you lifespan, shortening
it. Imagine you had Tracheobronchomalacia. Tracheobronchomalacia is the collapse of the trachea
and one or both of the bronchi. This occurs do to the softening of the cartilaginous rings. The
collapse can be classified in many ways but the shape of the airway after they are affected can be
classified as crescent, which is when one side of the bronchial tube is caved in which causes it
to have a crescent shape, or concentric which is when all sides of the tubes collapse and it
creates a circular hole in the middle in which air can pass through. When we are born, the
cartilaginous rings that support our trachea and bronchial tubes are made up of hyaline cartilage.
Over time these rings are supposed to go through the process of ossification and harden. When the
cartilage does not harden and there is something that causes the rings to collapse onto the airway, it
is classified as congenital or primary

A Short Note On 405 Lbs Squats At The End Of Spring...
Get to 405 lbs squats at the end of spring semester 2016 Be better at effectively communicating

time management skills Develop skills and strategies for collaborative work Get to 405 pounds
squats at the end of spring semester 2016 My main goal for this spring semester, is to get my
squats to at least 405 pounds. I am on a workout program, known as Mad Cow which focuses on
the three main exercise workouts. which are squat, bench, and deadlift. For the sake of focus, I
narrowed down my goal to my squat as my main goal. The program implements a three day per
week workout routine, that varies in intensity. For example, Monday will be considered heavy
which is the top set (max amount of weight you can lift, that given week). Wednesday will be a
light day, a recovery day essentially that allows the participant to recover, working out other
muscles group that weren t trained on Monday. Followed by Friday which will be a medium
day, meaning it s a combination of both the heavy and light. Where I will be working out to the
next top set for the next upcoming week. I generally move up by a five pounds increments, on a
weekly basis. And adjust my progress and workout from there, deciding whether I should move
up or stay at the same weight until I see best fit that I am able to lift that amount of weight for at
least five reps. Strengths: Currently my squats is at 350 lbs for five reps,

The Stories Of Cinderella, Snow White, And Sleeping Beauty
Most of us grew up watching and reading the stories of Cinderella, Snow White and, Sleeping
Beauty all of which were produced by Disney. But what if I told you that the versions you grew up
watching and reading are far from the original versions depicted by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm,
better known as the Brothers Grimm. In their tale of Cinderellathere was no fairy godmother, the
step sisters cut off portions of their feet to fit into the slipper and none of the animals talked or
sang, but rather plucked out the step sister s eyes as punishment for the mistreatment of Cinderella.
Which begs the question, what inspired the brother s to write these types short stories, which are
so not what is recognized today as a fairy tale? The rags to riches tale of Cinderella (the Brothers
Grimm version) the maiden later known as Cinderella goes from a beloved and cherished
daughter, to a household slave after the death of her mother and father s remarriage to a cruel
step mother and two heartless step sisters. To which is very similar to the Disney version most
of us are familiar with today. The authors do a good job of laying out the magical portion of the
tale which was created through the tears she shed every over the tree branch she planted at her
mother s grave that flourished into a tree and produced a white bird at each of her visits that
granted her whatever she wished for.
The authors keep to a more realistic setting in the story that was true to their era and German

  • 3. Theories Of Progressive Education Progressive Learning Theory in the US Sarah Cooper Rashaell Keating John Dewey s Progressive Learning Theory is defined as any various reformist educational philosophies and methodologies since the late 1800s, applied especially to elementary schools, that reject the rote recitation and strict discipline of traditional, single classroom teaching, favoring instead more stimulation of the individual pupil as well as group discussion, more informality in the classroom, a broader curriculum, and use of laboratories, gymnasiums, etc. in the school. It is essentially an umbrella theory for many theories that have contributed to what is known as, Progressive Education. Key Influences Friedrich Wilhelm August FrГ¶bel (1782 1852) was a German pedagogue and educator who first coined the term kindergarten in 1840. His main contribution was realizing the importance of activity of the child, such as free work and games, in learning and that each child learns differently and has different capabilities. He was a student of Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi (1746 1827) who felt that individuals best learned through experiences and through a direct manipulation and experience of objects and children were intrinsically motivated. Johann Friedrich Herbart (1776 1841) was a German philosopher, psychologist and founder of pedagogy as an academic discipline. • 6. A Planar Dual-Band Filter based on the Reduced Length... A Planar Dual Band Filter based on the Reduced Length Parallel Coupled Lines Seungku Lee and Yongshik Lee, Member, IEEE Sowmya Ravichandran Review paper summary: A Dual Band Filter is obtained by cascading the reactively loaded parallel coupled lines of reduced length ( гЂ–90гЂ—^0).The proposed filter have same electrical performance at both the passbands at frequencies f1 and mf1, where m is the frequency of separation between the two passbands. A complete set of design equations are derived for arbitrary number of Filter stages using standard filter synthesis technique. This provides simple, low cost and high performance filter with multiple bands. Introduction: Multiple channels are used by most of the modern communication devices. So ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The ports 2 and 3 can be made open or short. This design operates only at one frequency (f1).The equation for designing this filter is derived by even and odd mode analysis. The bandwidth of the filter with dual band is less compared to the conventional filter with single frequency of operation. This reduction in bandwidth is due to the Shunt stubs which are used to load the parallel coupled lines. Novel Design: The electrical length of the coupled line is reduced to гЂ–34.84гЂ—^0 . This decrease in length can be obtained only by increasing the frequency of separation m to 4.167.Hence the passband frequencies thus obtained are 2.4GHz and 10GHz.The even and mode impedances of the coupled line and the impedance of the shunt stub are calculated using the filter design equations. The shunt impedance value is found to be decreased when compared to filter with length гЂ–56.8421гЂ—^0.The bandwidth at both the frequencies are increased to 216MHz for a filter with 9% fractional bandwidth at 2.4GHz and 2.16% fractional bandwidth at 10GHz.Thus a reduced length filter would have increased bandwidth and decreased stub impedance. A graph is plotted for frequency Vs insertion loss. The insertion loss is found to be 0.66dB at 2.4GHz and 19.8dB at 10GHz.A better insertion loss of 2.9dB is obtained with a little shift in the frequency at 12.1GHz. • 8. Effects Of Colonialism In Jamaica Like many other aspects of the Jamaican way of life, colonialism has shaped the way the media in Jamaica functions, but the country has managed to maintain large elements of its culture. In an article written in the Jamaica Observer, Haughton (2017) describes the state of Jamaica as an under developed child who continues to depend on its parents for approval. For many years colonialism milked Jamaica and other Caribbean countries by imposing a false identity on our people, diminishing resources that affected growth and development (Haughton, 2017). This false identity to which Haugthon refers, is indicative of how most countries that were colonies operate. This has impacted the way we dress, speak and relate to each other. In what the author describes as Glocalisation , it is noted that in Jamaica, Western cultural patterns are domesticated and adapted within the cultural pattern of the Jamaican society. In other words, Jamaicans fuse most of what the world offers with aspects of their culture. The idea that the Jamaican cultural identity, and by extension the Jamaican s understanding of the self, may be lost by the presence of globalising forces can be resisted by recognising that there is an appropriation process that occurs and that this process has an underlying instrumental methodology (Burton, 2015). Conrad lives with a sense of guilt, not only for attempting suicide, but for things he had no control over (ex. Karen s death). From a socio cultural approach, Conrad depression worsens due to his unstable relationship with his mother, along with other relationships in his life. Throughout the movie, we clearly see that Conrad s mother does not understand the severity of Conrad s mental state. I compared and contrasted the August 2015 Time magazine, and the June 4th 1864 edition of Harper s Weekly. I have come to the realization that when people say times have changed, they are not kidding. It is crazy to read in between the lines and see how Americans lived over 150 years ago. The way things are placed and discussed are very different in both Harper s Weekly and TimeMagazine, but the two are similar in some ways also. Although there are many differences between the two, there are some similarities. I found that both have an article or two about foreign countries. By having these articles this means that Americans have always been interested in what other countries are up to. For example, in Time Magazine on page 11 there is an article written by Julia Zorthian that talks about Brazil turning against their president, and the antigovernment rallies. Another example in Time Magazine is on page 40 and it talks about the explosion that happened in a chemical warehouse in Tianjin, China. They said that this explosion is a symbol of the way others look at China. Since the beginning of the subculture, major label record labels, haute couture, and the mass media have attempted to use punk for profit and popularity. Punk fashion is the clothing, hairstyles, cosmetics, jewelry, and body modifications of the punk subculture. Many punks use clothing as a way of making a statement. First days of punk took place in London in the middle of the 70 s. Young teenagers and rebel followers of a new music style created it, called punk. One of the most popular music groups was the Sex Pistols launched by Malcolm McLaren. His partner was the great Vivenne Westwood, one of the most popular fashion designers. Punk rockwas an intentional rebuttal of the perceived excess and pretension found in mainstream music and culture. It seems the world of fashion has seen everything already. And punk style fascination and shocking is a real past. It developed so many ways, that we are used to see someone originally dressed. Music is the most important aspect of punk. • 14. The Demise Of The Andersen Accounting The Enron scandal was one of the most notorious bankruptcies of all time. Many people know about the energy titan s downfall but less realize that it was also one of the biggest auditing blunders in American corporate history, leading to the dissolution of the Arthur Andersen LLP, which at the time was one of the five largest auditing and accountancy partnerships in the world. The most intriguing aspect of this case is that Andersen was eventually cleared by the United States Supreme Court, yet the company still failed to live on due to its tarnished reputation stemming from its unethical behaviors. The pressure to generate revenue for clients while simultaneously auditing their books became too large a burden for the firm and they eventually resorted to unethical means to achieve their objectives. The demise of the Andersen accounting firm shows the true importance of practicing good ethicsand maintaining a good reputation amongst peers; the vitality of the business could depend on sustaining a clean image in the ever changing business world. Although there were many problems that led to Andersen s demise, the major ethical issue that plagued the accounting firm was a conflict of interest due to their dual roles as both an auditing and consulting firm. • 15. Essay Bulimia Nervosa BULIMIA NERVOSA 307.51 (F50.2) Introduction Individuals diagnosed with bulimia nervosa undertake frequent binge eating, followed by expelling the food, typically by inducing vomiting, but also through exercising and the use of laxative agents, diuretics, and enemas (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). The binge eating occurrences are often prompted by a negative perception of one s body image, temporarily alleviated by the binge eating episode. Since the individual with bulimia nervosa is overanxious about body weight, purging of the food is viewed as a necessity. This is in contrast to binge eating disorder, which does not involve the purging of food after an excess of food consumption (Bulik et al., 2012). Furthermore, although ... Specifically, if these events take place at a minimum of one time per week over a 3 month timespan then a diagnosis of bulimia nervosa may be made. Although these are the symptoms that must be present in order for a diagnosis of bulimia nervosa to be made, there are often other symptoms that accompany bulimia nervosa. Signs of psychosis have been found in patients with eating disorders like bulimia nervosa (Miotto et al., 2010). Moreover, those with bulimia nervosa frequently have the feeling that there is something flawed with their mind, and that others are at fault for their problems (Miotto et al., 2010). In addition, there is evidence that a feeling of loneliness is correlated with the occurrence of bulimia nervosa (Levine, 2012), highlighting the psychological dynamics that are at play behind this disorder. Causes of Bulimia Nervosa: from genetics to environment The environmental and biological mechanisms that underlie bulimia nervosa have been researched in some depth. Evidence Based Practice Examples In order for Evidenced based practice (EBP) to be successfully adopted and maintained, nurses and other healthcare professionals realize that it has to be adopted by individual providers, microsystems and system leaders, as well as policy makers. Federal, state, local, and other regulatory bodies are necessary for EBP adoption. An example of this is the mark of excellence in nursing used by the Magnet Recognition Program (Stevens, 2013). The development of evidenced based practice is fueled by the increasing public and professional demand for accountability in safety and quality improvement in healthcare (Stevens, 2013). An example of federal program that has emerged because of EBP is Congress funding the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) with the following mission: The PCORI helps people make informed healthcare decisions, and improves healthcare delivery and outcomes, by producing and promoting high integrity, evidence based information that comes from research guided by patients, caregivers and the broader healthcare community (PCORI, 2013).... Friends and family members have the power to betray us any second. We view them as an extension of ourselves; someone we can confide in. Your notion about them could be completely false for the betrayal they are capable of. Betrayal could be hidden in the shadows of a relationship between you and a friend, a special bond, or even a family member. Betrayal could be found within a nonfictional or fictional novel, play, poem, movie and even picture. The Great Gatsby is a novel written by F. Scott Fitzgerald in 1925. In his novel, he displays a lot of symbols, and themes including wealth, greed, and of course, betrayal. Betrayal can upset many people and ruin many people. Betrayal was demonstrated throughout the entire novel with a lot of connections. Three situations I had talked about were Gatsby betrayed by Daisy, Tom cheating on Daisy with Myrtle and when no one attends Gatsby s funeral. The first relationship explained is Tom and Daisy Buchanan. Tom is a very powerful domineering man, very self centered and self absorbed, while Daisy is a beautiful lady, with a rousing voice, but also very self centered as well. Regardless of geography, gender, sexual orientation, religion, race, education or economic status humankind desires love, and it s through literature and art that we find a universal connection provided by the artist or author, and oftentimes advice to help us cope with our humanity. For instance in If You Forget About Me , poet Pablo Neruda uses literary devices such as tone and metaphor to represent how lovecan be romantic, yet volatile. For example, Neruda uses a switch in tone from the beginning where the speaker is loving and romantic describing how, everything carries me to you (Neruda 11). The tone changes in the middle of the poem, becoming ominous, Well, now, if little by little you stop loving me I shall stop loving you little by little. (Neruda 17 19). These quotes show how love can mean everything and nothing at the same time, the speaker describes in the first quote how everything in his life revolves around his lover but if he/she decides to fall out of love he will easily do the same. Neruda also uses a metaphor, leave me at the shore of the heart where I have roots, Remember that on that day, at that hour, I shall lift my arms and my roots will set off to seek another land. ( Neruda 28 35). I believe the shore represents home, if the speaker s love leaves him/her stranded they will quickly move on to find someone new to fill their place. Alienation In A Rose For Emily A Rose for Emily : Death By the Community In A Rose For Emily, William Faulkner portrays how crippling alienation and slanderous gossip transform Emily Grierson into an unstable necrophile and murderer. Even though Miss Emily is highly thought of, women in the community display little sympathy or compassion after the deathof her father, a reaction that ultimately negatively impacts her ability to behave within an ordinary civilization. However, when the townspeople show a blatant disregard for Emily, they fail to recognize that she is damaged and deranged. They do not consider her feelings in the disastrous life around her, and even exclaim , ... it would be the best thing if she killed herself (Faulkner). When eighty per cent of your population wants something and is not opposed to take things by force then there are serious problems for the Russian autocracy. The positive side of the emancipation of the serfs was plentiful in its achievements. The emancipation was a prelude to the most sustained program of sustained reform that imperial Russia had experienced. It also accomplished these great reforms without violence or mass coercion. It is pretty evident that the only way that this could have been achieved was through a government of an absolute ruler; it could have not been done by a nation ruled by democracy. The only other social change that is even comparable to the emancipation of the serfs is the freeing of the African American slaves in 1865. However this should still be held to a lesser degree the emancipation of the serfs. This is because some fifty million serfs were set free without any violent implications or precursors. [2] A key reform falling on the positive side of the emancipation was the restructuring of the local government. The land from the landowner was granted to the commune and not the peasant.[3] These peasant communes were responsible

  • 27. Strengths And Weaknesses Of Chipotle Chipotle ventured into a new territory when it was created, as it had an innovative vision for fast casual restaurants. By using fresh and quality ingredients, Chipotle raised the bar in their segment. The service line where customers could see their order being prepared enhanced the experience of Chipotle. Consumers who were used to eating at fast casual restaurants where the food was frozen and made out of sight were able to savor the uniqueness of Chipotle. These differences helped Chipotle become successful. However, as competitors copy the traits that make Chipotle unique, Chipotle must adapt and overcome in order to remain a profitable company. Chipotle saw an opportunity in the fast casual restaurant industry and launched an innovative concept. It believes that fresh and quality ingredients are key and that customers are willing to pay more for such ingredients. To ensure such ingredients, Chipotle uses a large amount of organic food in their restaurants. This not only creates fresher and healthier food options for consumers, but also assists local farms that supply the organic food. Not only does Chipotle use organic food, but it uses produce that is in season. This reduces the costs of transporting produce and ensures that the ingredients are fresh. While competitors attempt to replicate the menu, style, and flavors of Chipotle, they do not have the resources to use organic ingredients as efficiently as Chipotle does. This is one strength of ... • 28. Leadership Opportunities Of The Youth Association Pee Wee... Leadership opportunities abound not only in the work setting, but in churches, communities, and neighborhoods as well. By taking on community leadership roles, individuals give back to the community and gain valuable experience that will serve them well in the workplace. In my own experience, I led the Chantilly Youth Association Pee Wee Soccer program for three years. In this capacity, I created schedules, reserved fields and gyms, ordered uniforms, arranged for the training of officials, collected money, and created teams for over 500 young children. I had a vision for the program and helped it grow. While Pee Wee Soccer is not rooted in a faith filled tradition, faith based leadership skills apply. Running such a large program affords the opportunity to teach as Jesus did, at least with respect to community and service, and gain valuable insight into organizational behavior. Perhaps the most essential lesson learned is that to be successful, it is important to consider the needs of everyone involved, and not merely the needs of a few. Catholic School Leadership The skills gained through Pee Wee Soccer prepared me well for the leadership roles I undertook in my early years as a Catholic school teacher. Whether in the role as Math Committee chairperson or as leader of the Word Study program, developing a vision, articulating that vision, and seeing it through to completion helped me gain support from my peers and colleagues as I took on more responsibility and further ... The Importance Of College In College College is something that every high school student looks forward to, and whether they get a bachelor s degree or doctorates, they can expect to be more successful in the future than those who don t go to college. However, as with every college, we must prove ourselves with more than just grades and extracurriculars, but also with personality and how we learn from failure. This is what I have to present to you today, my personality, feats, and faults, and how I have grown over the past 2 decades. Like all people, I do have a creative side, and it is the side of me that I prefer to show off. I can be innovative, comedic, helpful, and just overall a great person to talk to. Whenever I talk, whether it be my friends or people I know from class, I always try my best to slip a joke in based on the situation, whether it be a pun, punch line or just be funny in general. It always brings a smile to my face to make others smile and feel good. While this holds true, I am also able to focus and be helpful to the group. I like to help in any way that I can, because in a way, helping people is like telling a good joke, if done right, it can make people happy and smile. Being a leader is not what I prefer to do, I d much rather be a helpful part of the group, but if push comes to shove, I ll take charge of the situation and lead the group. Other things that make me creative is my fondness of fixing and creating things. I ve always liked taking a screwdriver to an object and seeing what ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Planning And Scheduling Process Of Construction Sector Essay LITERATURE REVIEW Planning and scheduling process of construction sector has been undergoing various research since 1950s. The planning and scheduling processes for construction can be broadly classified into two categories 1. Activity based planning methodologies and 2. Location based planning methodologies. The activity based methodology is further subdivided as deterministic (Critical path method) and probabilistic method (Program Evaluation and Review Technique). While location based methodologies can be subdivided into unit production and location production. Activity based scheduling methodology was developed in 1950s. The planning is done in construction process by using network of activities in this methodology. Location based methodology is based on the tracking of the crews working at various production tasks. These techniques are adopted using various graphical methods. This technique was used as a construction management system at the empire states building developed by goodyear company. These techniques are widely adopted in continuous production facilities.it was considered that this methodology requires repetition of activities and hence known as repetitive scheduling method (RSM). While this method is more concerned about movement o resources through various locations and activities need not to be repetitive for adoption of this method. So rather than repetition this methodology concentrates on tasks which are aggregated activities over various locations. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hitler s use of Strength through Joy holidays is the discussed topic in the given sources. Whilst all sources show different opinions on this topic, they all agree that, to a certain extent, that Hitler s use of popular policies was instrumental in his enormous support base. Despite all sources coming from accredited historians it must also be considered that there will always be an element of bias in people s work, and their opinions should not be taken as fact. • 32. Symbolism In Wise Blood By Flannery OConnor Could I change it if I wanted, can I rise above the flood? / Will it wash out in the water, or is it always in the blood? (Mayer). A question posed by the artist John Mayer holds true for the characters in Flannery O Connor s most famous novel, Wise Blood. In this novel, O Connor paints a picture of a small town in the heart of the Bible Belt and the internal struggle of its inhabitants. The protagonist, Hazel Motes, procures a twisted version of the Gospel and evangelizes to those who are made to believe they are lost. Yet, according to the teachings of Haze, this picture that humans are inherently sinful and in need of saving is false. In this novel, Flannery O Connor uses inanimate objects to show the attempts of Haze to replace what he knows to be true. Enoch Emory, on the other hand, struggles with a curse he believes he was born with wise blood. The prevalent themes of symbolism and imagery in Flannery O Connor s Wise Blood represent the inner battle between spirituality and the human nature of rebellion. Coming back from the war, Hazel Motes mindset is simple following a commission of sharing his gospel. O Connor uses inanimate objects to draw comparisons and also contrast Haze s secular and spiritual sides. One of the objects in Haze s life that becomes an obstacle for him is his hat. The issue with Haze s hat is shown by saying, Haze had a stiff black broad brimmed hat on his lap, a hat that an elderly country preacher would wear (O Connor 4). As Haze tries to escape his preacher image, many around him see the hat as an indication of his spirituality. This frustrates him, as he rejects any title that one may give him concerning religion. In Nervous Shadow Walking Backwards, the author describes the reason why this affects Haze so much by saying, In literature, a character s hat often symbolizes identity, the selfhood of the character. Haze s hat is mistaken throughout the book as a preacher s hat, an identity that he rejects (Bolton 91). Because of his desperation to escape this reputation, Haze purchases a new hat that, counterintuitively, attracts the same comments as before. O Connor uses this hat to symbolize the inability of Haze to escape the image he so intensely despises. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

But crime is considered abnormal in England, the United States, and in Canada; this paper presents data on the three nations mentioned above. United States Murder: According to the FBI, there were an estimated 14,748 individuals murdered in 2010 in the U.S., which is down by 4.2 percent from 2009. Aggravated Assault: Also in 2010, there were an estimated 778,901 aggravated assaults in the United States, the FBI reports. That is a decline by 4.1 percent from the year 2009, and a decline of 14.3 percent from 2001. There were approximately 252.3 assaults per 100,000 people and 27.4 percent were carried out with hands, fists, or feet ; 20.6 percent were committed using firearms; 19 percent were committed with knives or other cutting instruments, the FBI reports. Water and Womanhood in Ancient Greece Essay In the times of ancient Greece, there were ample tales, myths, and legends surrounding the realm of the sea; many of which included fearsome beasts, epic struggles, and angered gods. There are tales of vengeance, spite, cruelty, and rage, but there are also those of understanding, compassion, helpfulness, and benevolence. When one subjects many of the more malevolent (and sometimes disturbing) tales to closer inspection, it becomes fairly evident that a great number of these stories use a feminine force in order to display the wraith of the sea and the sea gods or goddesses. In fact, many sea monsters are said to be female including Charybdis and Scylla (the horrors between which Odysseus and his crew must sail through the Strait of... Water was also commonly used in rituals of rebirth or transformation something which was greatly connected to the female menstrual cycle in terms of symbolic meaning. Many cultures other than the ancient Greeks had creation myths which involved water to a great extent as well, especially portraying it as a source of life and the essence of which all life is formed. It is even said that it was from the divine waters of the Mother s womb that life came into existence (Laoupi, Pararas Carayannis) which encompasses both water and womanhood in one fell swoop. Additionally, the cultural role of women was one which was steeped in productivity and aid. This shows yet another parallel aspect which womanhood and water share; the creation, nurturing, and sustaining of life. Both water and women have the capability to bear children as well as protect and provide for them. Though it can be incredibly productive, water also symbolizes a great destructive power, for in large quantities it can completely destroy and eradicate entire cities, or even states should they be so small. Through symbolism, water and womanhood are connected, and it is not necessarily always in a positive manor. Not only are there symbols that connect womanhood to water, but the ... It is also during this time, that many children start to experiment with drugs and alcohol. According to Dictionary.com, substance abuse is long term, pathological use of alcohol or drugs, characterized by daily intoxication, inability to reduce consumption, and impairment in social or occupational functioning; broadly, alcohol or drug addiction. While many adolescents may just experiment, addiction and abuse of substances is a very real possibility. Sharma found that most drug and alcohol users began using between the ages of fifteen and eighteen. The most common reasons given to them for initiation were peer influence, curiosity, and sense of growth (2015).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These reasons are dangerous to any person but have extra danger to a socially developing adolescent. Children in this age range should not have to depend on a mind altering substance to learn to manage stress, be friends with their peers, or feel good. These life skills need to be developed naturally with no help from addictive substances. If a person uses a crutch at the time of development, it will be harder to feel good, socialize, cope with stress, and find belonging later in life without the crutch. This is why adolescent substance abuse is something that children should be educated on and helped correctly if a habit does form. If helped incorrectly, the negative reaction could do more harm than good for the socially developing adolescent. Risk Behavior Perception Since substance abuse and experimentation begins around the time of adolescence, school counselors must know how to deal with it and other risk behaviors. Counselors need to look for signs of danger, be aware of them, and know how intervene if necessary. Nagel, Scherer, and Lee interviewed public high schooland middle school counselors about their perceptions on adolescent risk behavior. The applications of the IoT in education are endless, and the results are extremely favorable for the student, teacher, and the university. For example, the emergence of the IoT allows schools to enhance access to information, keep track of key information and resources, and improve the safety of their campuses [5]. Professors can spend anywhere from 12 14 hours in a day teaching, working with individual students, and/or grading assignments and tests. The surge in connected IoT devices does not require professors to manually grade assignments; therefore, they are provided extra time to use as they please. Also, devices connected to the cloud allow professors to gather information on their students; this data can then be used for two things. First, the data acknowledges which students require the most individual attention, need, and care. Second, teachers can adjust their teaching strategies or lesson plans for future classes by analyzing the received data. From a student standpoint, IoT devices and applications allow the student to capture notes quickly and effectively, eliminating the time to manually write the notes; this allows the student to focus on the lecture that is being presented [5]. • 43. Essay On Great War Propaganda This time in history, not ironically called the Great War, was basically marked by putting mass in front of many invaluable terms, such as mass society, mass culture, mass production, mass mobilization and mass consumption. Mass culture was spread by the rising amount of propaganda utilized during this time. Propaganda in the Great War was an imperative part for the development of support, more specifically nationalism, which lead to a great amount of success for certain countries. Culture was shifting during this time due to skyrocketing popularity of radio and film. These technological advances made it easier for the views of the elite, and those in power, to spread their views to all citizens, as even radios had a place in most homes. The popularity of the radio was common regardless of class situation, which is very rare. The radio also lead mass... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This supports the fact that people enjoyed being informed, even though the news featured on the radio they were hearing resembled more of advertising than anything else. This ties into mass production. This time era was shortly after the Industrial Revolution, which means the factories had time to improve on previous issues and make industry as efficient as possible at the time. Industry produced goods at a much more rapid rate than previously, which made radios be made more available on the market, along with automobiles. The famous Henry Ford s mass production of Ford vehicles also displays this consumption. Ford vehicles were rising in demand, and highly desired throughout the US during this time. As the assembly line was being perfected, production increased and prices sank. This lead to even greater mass consumption. After the Great War the entire world seemed to be on a path of competing for the biggest and best items and governments possible, in the least amount of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The listener hears these words by Michael but these words seem to describe our daily experience. This makes an appeal to pathos, stirring emotions. Michael wants the listener to remember that there are people in our communities who suffer and that we should first care about them rather than pretending not to see that they need our help. As I turned up the collar on my favorite winter coat this wind is blowing my mind. Although he can remove himself physically from the problems he sees all around him using his winter coat as a physical protector Michael can t escape or run away from the torment of his own mind, knowing there s more he can do to change the world. • 45. Freud Vs Erikson Research Paper Sigmund Freud s psychosexual theory and Erik Erikson s psychosocial theory are two important and well known psychoanalytic theories on human development. Both theories are often compared and contrasted in developmental studies. Like Freud, Erikson also believed that human development occurs in a series of stages of a person s life. However, Freud s theory focuses on basic needs and biological impulses like the need for food and sexual behaviors in the early stages of life. While Erikson s theory emphasized on environment experiences and social interactions throughout the early and later stages of life. In the first year of development, the oral stage by Freud and the trust vs. mistrust stage by Erikson, both psychologists believed children develop a sense of trust during this stage. Whereas through feeding or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both believed children develop the sense of independent at this stage. During the 3rd stage, ages 3 6, we begin to see the differences in both Freud s and Erikson s theories. Freud called this stage the phallic stage. During this stage Freud believed children begin to develop pleasure in genitals, recognize their gender and develop self esteem. Erikson referred this stage as initiative vs. guilt as children begin their preschool years. Children begin to face new challenges, explore beyond themselves and develop a sense of initiative. If criticized or punished they begin to feel guilty for their actions. Ages 7 to 11 is the 4th developmental stage. Freud ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. Psychological Process Analysis Description of Psychological process: When I began examining specific cross cultural differences in psychological processes, a particular example that resonated heavily and constantly in my head came from the original article called: Cultural and Educational Influences on Pain of Childbirth by Dr. Matisyohu Weisenberg and Zahava Caspi. In this study the authors examined the effects that educational history and differing sociocultural families of origin have on communicated ratings of pain and specific pain behavior prevalent during childbirth (Weisenberg et al., 1989). On a more elementary level, the authors investigated the disparities in how people verbally and physically react to pain prevalent during childbirth based upon differences in cultural and educational influences. In order to quantitatively measure the pain perceived ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After describing universally high levels of pain prevalent during child birthing, the researchers go on to describe that the women in the lower education group were more susceptible to higher levels of pain ranking and pain behavior across both cultures. By partaking in more years of school, women become more likely to understand the process, pains, and experience endured by women during the delivery process helping them mentally prepare for childbirth. Previously in the article we can see that preparation leads to lower pain behavior yet it doesn t affect pain ranking (Weisenberg et al., 1989). Prevalent in a study done by Bonnel and Boureau (Bonnel, 1985) we can see that the pain behaviors, actually, have more to do with self control. With school testing our self control on a daily basis through a heavy workload and strict management of our grades it is no wonder why women with increased levels of education rank their pain as ... • 48. James Thurber-Humor in Fiction James Thurber was one of the most influential and unforgettable writers of his kind. He made modern day problems seem preventable in the minds of people, and he tried to make them realize that the problems had to have a source. Thurber wrote of people struggling with day to day life that was once trouble free and drew his ideas of humanity losing the direction it once had in the past. He attributed this change to wandering minds and ignorant actions on man s behalf. James Thurber used his artistic and creative abilities to make a point of humanshortcomings through ingenious writings and comical sketches. James Oliver Thurber, a satirical, Ohio born writer, was born in Columbus on December 8, 1894. Thurber wrote of himself that he was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of Thurber s choice ways of communicating with the masses was through writing magazine articles, short stories, essays, and children s books. His uncanny take on his writing usually brought laughter and enjoyment to its readers with descriptions of wild and ridiculous events being his number one source of absurdity. Among them were Many Moons, a story of a daughter of royalty who refused to make herself better after overeating until she was given the moon, and The Wonderful O, the tale of a pirate who travels to the island of Ooroo to find jewels. When the pirate leaves empty handed, he banishes all words containing the letter o. The moral to the fairy tale was words containing that vowel were vital in the world and among the necessary words was freedom (Morsberger Suppl. 1:612). When it came to more important matters, Thurber had the views of many of today s modern thinkers, and it was reflected in his work. He saw the human as more harmful than helpful to the world as a whole. In his Interview with a Lemming, the creature being interrogated by a scientist calls humans murderous, maladjusted, maleficent, malicious, and muffle headed. The scientist proceeds to tell him that he agrees with the observation, but he can not seem to understand why lemmings hurry to the sea to drown themselves. The lemming curtly replies, How curious. • 49. Taking a Look at Tracheobroncomalacia Imagine if you had to quit all physical activity, all sports, all hobbies. Imagine if you cough and cough but nothing can or will ever come out. Your sleeping is even affected when you cannot even lie down but have to prop yourself up on pillows. You then have to watch out for the different airborne diseases that can work their way into their body and can potentially be fatal. All those simple diseases such as strep throat, common colds, or any other respiratory illness that you use to breeze right through. Knowing everyday that this will affect you lifespan, shortening it. Imagine you had Tracheobronchomalacia. Tracheobronchomalacia is the collapse of the trachea and one or both of the bronchi. This occurs do to the softening of the cartilaginous rings. The collapse can be classified in many ways but the shape of the airway after they are affected can be classified as crescent, which is when one side of the bronchial tube is caved in which causes it to have a crescent shape, or concentric which is when all sides of the tubes collapse and it creates a circular hole in the middle in which air can pass through. When we are born, the cartilaginous rings that support our trachea and bronchial tubes are made up of hyaline cartilage. Over time these rings are supposed to go through the process of ossification and harden. When the cartilage does not harden and there is something that causes the rings to collapse onto the airway, it is classified as congenital or primary ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 51. The Stories Of Cinderella, Snow White, And Sleeping Beauty Most of us grew up watching and reading the stories of Cinderella, Snow White and, Sleeping Beauty all of which were produced by Disney. But what if I told you that the versions you grew up watching and reading are far from the original versions depicted by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, better known as the Brothers Grimm. In their tale of Cinderellathere was no fairy godmother, the step sisters cut off portions of their feet to fit into the slipper and none of the animals talked or sang, but rather plucked out the step sister s eyes as punishment for the mistreatment of Cinderella. Which begs the question, what inspired the brother s to write these types short stories, which are so not what is recognized today as a fairy tale? The rags to riches tale of Cinderella (the Brothers Grimm version) the maiden later known as Cinderella goes from a beloved and cherished daughter, to a household slave after the death of her mother and father s remarriage to a cruel step mother and two heartless step sisters. To which is very similar to the Disney version most of us are familiar with today. The authors do a good job of laying out the magical portion of the tale which was created through the tears she shed every over the tree branch she planted at her mother s grave that flourished into a tree and produced a white bird at each of her visits that granted her whatever she wished for.
