Essay on Female Chauvinist Pigs
In Female Chauvinist Pigs, Ariel Levy attempts to reconcile her personal views of feminism with
its portrayal in popular culture. In order to challenge what she sees as a co opted version of
feminism, Levy raises the question of authenticity of sex positive feminism (Levy, 63) on two
levels: by selling out in terms of the body and in terms of our patriarchal culture. In order to restore
a binary relationship between feminism and non feminism, Levy recasts this sex positive feminism
as a new form of (fe)male chauvinism. To do so, Levy turns to the experiences of several young
women whom she interviews. From her interpretations of these experiences, Levy reaches the
conclusion that these women s sexual nature revolves around their need... Show more content on

This binary relationship manifests itself in Levy s work in another way, as well. Toward the
very end of the book Levy claims she has no complaint against women who do gain genuine
sexual pleasure from their vaginas waxed, their breasts enlarged (Levy, 198). On one hand, Levy
recognizes that sexuality is personal and that everyone s own experiences and preferences are
unique. Yet at the same time, by drawing the line between authentic and fake , she must
impersonally interpret these experiences in order to classify them as problematic . This desire to
judge yet not judge women s sexual nature represents an underlying tension within the book that
threatens to unravel her arguments. Levy further asserts her binary comparison in a temporal
manner by comparing the feminism of the past with the feminism of the present, as she claims in
recent years, the term feminism has fallen further and further out of favour (Levy, 86). By framing
her own views of feminism as those belonging to an earlier point in the timeline, she privileges
these views as original or authentic . Yet this does not acknowledge that the anti porn wars of the
80 s was a point at which feminism branched out, rather than transitioned from one set of beliefs to
another. As a result, the cultural changes that she observed occurred in the presence of both stances
of feminism, making it difficult to distil the cause. Levy privileges past over present in her
suggestion

Essay On Ideology Of Pakistan
The consequences of independence from British control over India and demise of British colonial
power in the South Asian subcontinent led to the genesis of a new country up on the world map on
14th August 1947. Undoubtedly, the fundaments of the demand of a separate country were based
on the religious identity and an intention to provide a secure haven for the Muslims from Hindu
dominated India. However, Pakistanwas not meant to be a theocratic state, in which the rulers of
government are vested with the uncontrolled power of religion. Instead, the founder of Pakistan
Muhammad Ali Jinnahnot only wanted an independent state for Muslims, in which Islam had
primary role affirmed by the apparatus of the state but also a place in which other faith groups

2.2Ideology of Pakistan
The ideology of Pakistan was two nation theory, according to which, Muslims and Hindus are two
distinct nations from every aspect of their lives. One of the core reasons of the separation of the
Subcontinent was that, post colonial Indian state failed to offer reasonable options to its Muslims
minority to sustain in India. Therefore, the problem of minority rights was the cutting edge of all
the political debates revolving around the formation of Pakistan.
While Jinnah s approach represented a state having equality for all and free from any kind of
discrimination of religion, caste and creed, there was a demand from fundamentalist Islamic
leaders for a strict Islamic mechanism to run the state affairs. Jinnah demanded a state for Muslims
minority in India, where religious freedom offered to other faith groups could be observed as the
matter of tolerance and acceptance on behalf of the Muslim majority.

Bullying Is The Job Of Parents And Schools
Bullying is when you force someone to do something they do not want to, and it can cause stress
or then leads to suicide in some cases. In Schoolyard Bullies by Stephanie Simon, prosecutor
James Backstrom maintains school bullies should go to jail. However, I do not think bullies
should go to jail, because there are different degrees of bullying. Some bullies are victims, and
sending bullies to jail does not cure them. Stopping bullying is the job of parents and schools.
Parents play a key role in preventing and responding to bullying. Parents should recognize the
warning signs that the child is involved in bullying. Children could be being bullied, bullying
others, or witnessing bullying. Although these signs could signal other issues, parents should
talk to their children if they display any sort of behavioral or emotional changes. Many times
children won t ask for help, so it is important to know what to look for. If the child is at
immediate risk of harming himself or others, parents need to get help right away. Just sending
the children who are bullies to go to jail, and doing jail time are not a good way to correct
children s behaviors. I understand the rationale . . . , but incarceration is a fairly big stick, says
Susan Limber, a bullying expert at Clemson University. You can get the same payoff with a lot less
drastic measures (Simon 2). Moreover, if the children go to jail, they might not change their mind,
even though their behavior will be

The Setting Of August Wilson s Gem Of The Ocean

16 October 2017
The setting of August Wilson s Gem of the Ocean is 1904 Pittsburgh. It has been 40 years since the
abolition of slavery and the Second Industrial Revolution is alive and well. Between 1870 and 1914
the United States saw an important change in the labor and working class, technological
advancements took production from a handmade to an automated factory setting. The development
of manufacturing produced a necessity for numbers of factory laborers. These laborers faced
extensive hours, unfortunate working conditions and job insecurity.
In Gem of the Ocean, several of the characters have memories of servitude and have come to the
understanding that what they believed to be liberation has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

I m just starting out sleeping there. I asked one fellow what board meant. He say they supposed
to give you something to eat. They ain t give us nothing. I say okay. I can t make them give me
nothing. What I m gonna do? I got to eat. I bought a loaf of bread for a dime. A bowl of soup
cost ten cents around the corner. I wasn t desperate. I had sixty five cents to make it to payday. I
ate half the bread and say I would get a bowl of soup tomorrow. Come payday they give me three
dollars say the rest go on my bill. I had to give the man what own the house two dollars. What I m
gonna do, Miss Tyler? I told the people at the mill I was gonna get another job. They said I couldn
t do that cause I still owed them money and 22 they was gonna get the police on me.
The incidents in this excerpt that Citizen describes were not uncommon for that time. During the
Industrial Revolution, company towns, communities built by businesses, developed up across the
country. Although the concept may have appeared ideal a number of companies made more
money from cheating their workers than from what they produced. During the boom in textile,
coal, steel and other industries, workers often earned what s called scrip instead of real money: a
kind of credit they couldn t spend anywhere but the company store, where prices were often higher
than elsewhere. (Hirsch) A real life example can be seen in that of the Pullman Place Car
Company in order to work for Pullman, one had to

The Advance Traveler Information Systems
The motive and idea proposed through this paper is to implement Advanced Traveler Information
Systems (ATIS) that is potential enough to provide solutions for problems encountered in cases of
both, informed and non informed users. After several route choice studies and investigations,
experts conclude that impact of elaborated and virtually supported information determine vast
difference in theoretical and methodological approach to ATIS. As an attempt to develop the
technologies appropriate to establish an Overall Intelligent Transportation System supported with
real time and accurate data to make travelerdestination/route choices a happy decision.
Generally both, descriptive or prescriptive concept of pre trip traveler information has a positive
impact. It increases the traveler s confidence to explore deeper, bargain in the new land, use
freeways properly and make better informed transit choices. En route visual data and information
offer tested guidance, saves travel time, helps to avoid congestion, improves traffic performance
and provide more efficiency than paper maps, written instructions or previous traveler experiences
(BoozAllen Hamilton, 1998). However, recent studies have revealed people s lack of awareness
about the system and its diminished usage.
The efforts and rework carried to overcome this weak link register a pitfall in the prevailing system
which exhibits the limitation of visual data in it. In order to endeavor the fool proof system that is

A way that the tribes overcame this issue was by setting up different points and each drummer
would acknowledge the sender s message by a series of beats on the drum. After the message was
confirmed received then the message would be sent to the next receiver.
In the times of the American Indians, the tribes would use smoke signals as a form of wireless
communication. The downside to this form of communication was the limited distance based on
line of sight. Due to a limited alphabet and the issues, that the wind causes would increase the
chances that the communication would be lost or misinterpreted. Soon followed was the
introduction of the semaphore flag. The semaphore flag system is one used to convey
information at a distance by using signals with flags, paddles or gloved hands. The downside to
this form of wireless communication is that it is limited to line of sight as well, and that because
this had to take place in the open the chances of your message being stolen is increased.
Science that Drove Wireless Development
(Wenclewicz)
In the nineteenth century, light beams were used for short haul communications, particularly in
military contexts. Very detailed messages could be transmitted by a coded sequence (Morse code)
of blinking lights from sender to receiver. Again, this was effective over limited distances and
provided a quiet, yet visible means of communication. Drawbacks included limited

The Between Science And Christianity
I remember it well as if it were yesterday, but it over 40 years ago when I walked into Dr. E s.
Office asking for his opinion about something; that I needed help having to do with correctly
responding to the interrelationship between Science and Christianity. I had my own
discernment and interpretation on this topic, but I wanted a practical, realistic way to approach
this discussion when asked, even if it was a couple days later, or during a confirmation class.
Though I did not have Dr. E as a professor, or took one of his courses in geology, I knew that he
could help me in a constructive way. Dr. E. was my mentor and sponsor and he was always
receptive to anything that I had to ask whether it was a simple or complex question of the day. On
that day, I wanted to know his understanding of Gods creation of science, its separation from, but
more so to its correlation to the theology of Christianity. At times, I was puzzled by some people s
insistence that the two shall never meet. Where I was coming from the standpoint and still hold
true, that Jesus, Son of God is the Great Physician as recounted in the healings parables and based
and John 5:1 9. I also believed and have no problem seeing that science and medical advances
were beneficial and true blessings from God. Another vital point of understanding that I base this
reflection upon is the profound belief that that God works his power and purpose through the
means of science as wisdom and hard work is expressed

Individual Analysis for Engstrom Auto Mirror Plant
Engstrom Auto Mirror plant, as a privately owned business, it manufactured mirrors for trucks and
automobiles. The managers aimed to increase productivity for sustainable development of the
company. Back in 1998, to pursue highly productivity, the plant was redesigning its production lines
to incorporate new technology, however, the transition was not smooth, some problems had
emerged, such as the staffs moral and efficiency declining and the internal contradictions being
intensified between the managers and employees. As the result of it, the previous manger resigned
in 1998. After that, the new manager, Ron Bent believed in the power of worker incentive
programs and wanted to establish one at Engstrom. Eventually, the plant adopted the... Show more

According to my analysis, the problems are distrust between the managers and employees and
unfairness of rewards between the employees and supervisors. In order to keep productivity and
profitability of the plant, it should resolve the issues urgently before the situation deteriorated
further. I recommend the option two is better for Bent to deal with these problems for the plant.
Firstly, communication is the most important factor that affects the relationship between managers
and employees. If the managers could listen advices of the work in time from their employees, it
not only will be more easier to handle the existing problem in the company, but also will improve
the relationship between managers and employees because the staff feel the company takes, to
respect and to trust them, feel oneself is in enterprise s one, and they can have the confidence and
the sense of responsibility for the development of their company. Secondly, it is to give the
appreciation by managers to employees frequently that will improve the employee morale because
they will feel more attached to their company. As the result of this, employees will devote to their
work without any complaint. Consequently, because of the improvement of relationship and
employee morale, the efficiency and productivity of company will improve with the efforts of all
staff and give them corresponding reward. Although the first option is probably to resolve the crisis

Analysis of Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird, by...
Wallace Stevens is not an easy poet to understand. His work is purposely twisted and tangled so one
is forced to thing whether they want to or not. Stevens poetry ranges from real life situations to
situations which are simply a depiction of his imagination. One thing can be concluded though,
Stevens does not allow his work to have a single meaning. Why should he? This is the upmost
quality that makes his stand out from his competitors in the poetic industry. An interesting theme
though which Wallace truly enjoys writing about, in all seriousness, is something thought
provoking perception. The book definition of perception is appending [something] by the means of
senses or the mind. In his poem, Thirteen Ways of Looking... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This is where one can see the new role the blackbird is playing. A new perception of the bird. It is
now part of one s conscious. It does not have an on or off button that any human can control just
like a river...moving (Stevens 48). A new theme is suggested in this part which makes its way up
to the top a couple more times in the work. It is choices. It this specific case it is clear that the
individuals the speaker is referring to do not have a choice but to acknowledge the bird. In the
fifth part on the other hand, once again a new idea is presented and this is not the case. Here the
bird becomes an objectified beauty but this doesn t last long because as the sixth part approaches,
the readers once again return to the winter time filled with icicles (Stevens 17 19). A circular
pattern can now be seen with the seasons. Another hint of a continuous process occurring the
process of perception.
In the seventh stanza the speaker calls up the thin men of Haddam (a city in Connecticut) and asks
about the golden birds (Stevens 25 26). He goes on to say that the Blackbird walks around the feet
of the women about [them] (Stevens 28 29). What could he possibly mean? Loazi, a philosophical
author, wrote in his book that one should Know the masculine, keep to the feminine. With that
being said, when the lines from the poem are re evaluated, it can be seen that the

Autobots Attempts To Stop Decepticons
The movie Transformers is about Autobots trying to stop Decepticons. Autobots and Decepticons
are forms of Transformers that have been fighting for years. Scenes from the movie are spectacular.
Certain scenes from the movie are very great such as when Optimus fights the T Rex, when Cade
Yeager finds Optimus Prime and gets his house raided by Special Agent Savoy, and when the
Autobots ended the battle with the Decepticons. Autobots are normally the good transformersand
Decepticons are usually the bad guys.
From the time Cade Yeager finds Optimus Prime, Cade knew Optimus was a transformer. At the
time the U.S government had award money for anyone who spotted or found a transformer. The
government was giving award because the Transformers had previously started a war on U.S
soil and the government now wanted them gone. So Cade insisted to his friend Lucas to not tell
anyone about Optimus being hidden in his warehouse. So the next couple days past and Optimus
and Cade grew to kind of know each other. As Cade s daughter was just getting home, a swarm of
police vehicles and helicopters emerged on to Cade Yeager s property. The man in charge (SA
Savoy) wanted to know where Optimus was and Cade was insisting that Optimus was not here. SA

Argument
To defeat a motion for summary judgment by the moving party, the non moving party must show a
genuine dispute of material fact to prove the moving party is not entitled to judgment as a matter
of law. Fed. R. Civ. P. 56. For if no genuine dispute of material fact is shown, the moving party is
entitled to judgment as a matter of law. Fed. R. Civ. P. 56.
When a court rules on a summary judgment motion, the court must look positively to the Plaintiff

Reflection On Work
Examining my Work, Play, Fit and Push planner for this week I started off pretty strong.
Tuesday came and I slacked off a little because I started feeling sick on Monday afternoon and
felt even worse Tuesday, so I got preoccupied on trying to feel better and didn t work on the
schedule I planned, besides doing homework and going to my final critique. Wednesday I felt
better so I was able to focus on the schedule again, reorganizing my room as well as my
bathroom. I want to be strict on myself following today since being sick kind of threw me off
schedule and got me unmotivated. For the rest of the week Friday through Sunday I m going to
try to follow the schedule I have picked out since its little more laid back than the rest of the
days. Besides the let back of not feeling the greatest I would say this week went pretty well and I
can still finish strong this weekend following my plan. This week challenges were mainly
because I was feeling a little under the weather and was focusing on feeling better before the
convention came. So for the first day of the week I didn t get to work on my play but I did work
on my push. I would say starting off on Monday it was a success and I did get to voice my
opinion at work that day, sharing how I felt on a certain matter relating to the production of the
print and marketing center at work. Another challenge that I faced is getting my motivation back
because although I felt better I still wasn t 100% so I just tried my best. The

Reflection Of Student Athletes In High School
Question 1:
Upon my enrollment in high school, I joined multiple student organizations. I have been a
member of my High School s marching band, the Sound of Pride (SOP), since the eighth grade
and have continued to participate every season. I marched both trombone and euphonium
before becoming the Assistant Drum Major as a sophomore in the 2016 season. This past
season, I was named the band s Drum Major, becoming the school s first junior to ever hold the
title. After the conclusion of the marching band season, I perform with the TCHS Symphonic
Wind Ensemble for both a winter and spring concert. During the spring, I also perform with the
TCHS High Tide Steel Pan Band. I have been a member of both bands since freshman year. At
the start of my junior year, I became the pianist for the TCHS Chorus. This year, I also joined the
TCHS Drama Club and participated in the club sponsored One Act Play titled, The Great American
Talent Show. Finally, the my sophomore year, I was chosen to be one of the six members of the
Georgia Secretary of State Student Ambassadors to represent my high school and Tattnall County.
Through this program, my team and I educate our community about how our government works
and volunteer at local voting polls and municipalities. I was chosen to be a part of this team again
at the start of this semester.

Social regulatory commissions often dictate the required conditions that are to be met for
production environments and products in order to protect employees as well as consumers.
A natural monopoly is an industry in which one business already exists is not economical because
the competing business would not be able to reduce their prices as low as the price of the natural
monopoly and therefore wouldn t be profitable. Natural monopolies are established when multiple
firms startup costs are too high to enter the industry. The public interest theory of regulation, or
economic theory of regulation states that industrial regulation is essential in maintaining a natural

costs. These naturally occurring costs can often bar entry or discourage entry into the industry. In

How Did Culture Influence Ancient Greek Culture
All cultures are built off of some type of belief. This belief influences daily life in the culture. It
sets common rules and guide lines in which the people should act. The belief also influences
activities and architecture. This is true for the Ancient Greek culture. Their culture relied on their
Gods. This is also known as Greek Mythology. Greek mythology had a huge influence on the
Ancient Greek culture.
The daily life in Ancient Greece was based around worshiping the Gods. The Greeks would look
to the Gods to explain everything that would happen. For example, they would blame the Gods
for natural disasters. Also, Greece was separated into city states. These city states each claimed a
god or goddess to follow. Each city state would build temples to worship their God or Goddess. The

The temples in ancient Greece were the biggest and most beautiful structures. At the temples they
would give thanks to the Gods. Greek architecture represents order and harmony. The Greek
Gods and Goddesses also represented order and harmony. For example, the Greek Goddess of
wisdom, Athena, had a temple built in her honor. This temple is known as the Parthenon. The
Greeks built the temple to replace the old one that was destroyed by the Persians. The new
temple was built to thank Athena for the cities success. In these temples the Greeks would build
huge sculptures of the God or Goddess in their human form. The sculptures would also depict
important stories of the Gods or Goddess. The Greeks also started writing poems about the Gods
and Goddesses. This is another way the Greeks shared the stories of the Gods. The Ancient
Greeks also made pottery. On the pottery they painted murals of scenes. These scenes depict life in
Greece; they also show scenes of the Gods and Goddesses. The pottery is the best way historians

Jean Hey’s Annunciation Essay examples
By most accounts, the year 1500 was in the midst of the height of the Italian Renaissance. In that
year, Flemmish artist Jean Hey, known as the Master of Moulins, painted The Annunciation to
adorn a section of an alter piece for his royal French patrons. The painting tells the story of the
angel Gabriel s visit to the Virgin Mary to deliver the news that she will give birth to the son of
God. As the story goes, Mary, an unwed woman, was initially terrified about the prospects of
pregnancy, but eventually accepts her fate as God s servant. The Annunciationis an oil painting on a

The new emphasis on learning, especially via direct observation of the natural world, led to new
artistic techniques that allowed artists to mimic those of the ancients. The Early Renaissance was,
therefore, a progression of observing the works of the ancients, and undergoing a new process of
trial and error learning from prior mistakes and tracing the path of artistic creation. The aim of the
artists was to better their abilities at portraying human characteristics, both physical and emotional,
while creating a more ideal finished product, something that was as significant in presence as the
natural world itself. Much progress was made in these campaigns during the Early Renaissance, and
the emergence of the High Renaissance was characterized by the true mastery of the method of
creating mankind s body and emotions[1], and an artwork as balanced as nature itself. Jean Hey s
The Annunciation demonstrates the product of this final Renaissance transition.
One of the more intricate elements of the human form whose representation the High Renaissance
perfected was that of hands. The Annunciation is evidence of this. The proportions and general

The Application Of Measuring And Improving Quality
American Quality Experts
The application of measuring and improving quality in the United States have been heavily
influenced by four individuals. This paper will examine the contributions and theories of Walter
Shewhart, W. Edwards Deming, Philip Crosby, and Joseph Juran. Finally, these theories will be
used to develop a proposal for a quality monitoring system for the Pharmacy Department at Munson
Medical Center.

Walter Shewhart Walter Shewhart, Ph.D., earned both a bachelor s and master s degree from the

This is a technique for learning and improvement containing four phases, plan, do, study and act.
An interesting insight into the basis for this idea is that there is no knowledge with interpretation
of data (Mauleon Bergman, 2009). Nearly 50 years after his death, researchers are continuing to
incorporate Shewhart s principles in an effort to improve quality in healthcare. In a recently
published paper, control charts were used to identify patients who developed adverse outcomes
following elective colon resection (Fry, Pine, Jones Meimbah, 2012). These patients may have
experienced a special cause variation resulting in an increased length of stay in the hospital. An
awareness of the factors that may contribute to the occurrence of these variations may lead to
improved outcomes and decreased costs.
W. Edwards Deming William Edwards Deming earned his bachelor degree in electrical
engineering from the University of Wyoming. He subsequently earned his master s degree as well
as his doctoral degree in mathematics and physics from the University of Colorado and Yale,
respectively. This background in science and mathematics served as his foundation for statistics.
Deming worked extensively in Japan after World War II and was recognized by the Deming

Descriptive Essay On The Perfect Wedding
The Perfect Wedding
Sophie walked down the aisle like a stately queen, arm in arm with her father. Her hair was
arranged into an elaborate style on top of her head, and her pink ballroom dress swished almost
silently on the carpet aisle. It was a glorious day for a wedding. The trees were a perfect green and
sparkled with leftover dew from that morning. A perfect June day. A song ran through her mind
making her smile. For they say when you re married in June, you will always, always, always be a

out of their white wooden chairs.
Sophie had planned the menu herself. There was turkey, roast beef, steak, mashed potatoes, and an
assortment of sauces. For drinks there was champagne, soda, and water. There was an ice cream
bar with numerous flavors since Ella had suggested it. And of course there was the giant wedding

pulled out a handful. She picked up a brown one that looked like toffee and nearly spit it out. Alas,

Jackie Robinson Leadership
Jackie Robinson is everything a leader should be viewed as. For those of you who do not know
of Jackie or his story, it s quite an amazing one and he displays the utmost highest respect to all of
his followers. Jackie Robinson was the first African American to ever play in the Major Leagues
of Baseball. He started his rookie season on April 15, 1947, and went on to thrive breaking the
strong color barrier that had been around the Major Leagues since 1876. He not only was the
first African America to play baseball but he displayed honor and respect to every person on the
field and off the field he came in contact with. His career helped drive the civil rights movement
that started in the 1950s and 1960s. Jackie had a way of presenting... Show more content on

An example of him showing himself to be indirect as Butkus (n.d.) describes is, While waiting
for the results of an injured ankle Jackie boarded a military personal bus to be driven back to
camp. Despite the military s personal unsegregated busses, a white driver told Jackie to move to
the back. Jackie refused which resulted in his arrest by military police and his completion in the
military after a long trial virtually ending in an honorable discharge. By taking this course of
action Jackie was indirectly standing up and leading as fellow African Americans witnessed this
on the bus with him they saw him taking action and standing up for what he believed in for
himself. Jackie during his Major League years on the field was the target of racial labeling.
When watching a film dedicated to him called 42 , throughout many scenes you can see metal
cleats being thrown at him, mass amounts of death threats, hatred letters, and even Major League
pitchers throwing 90 100 mph pitches at his head and legs. Through it all though he would never
retaliate and he would lead by example. Jackie did what an indirect leader would do and that is
leading to expertise. Many African Americans witnessed all of these things happen to him and not
once did he lash out and attack whoever did any of those things to him, but ignored it and was the
better person. It impacted the

The Celluloid Closet Essay
Tom had wanted to kill Dickie before, once or twice or three times, (95) but Tom makes the
decision to actually do so after Dickie has once again accused Tom of being gay, this time after
Tom ogles the gay acrobats on the beach in Cannes. Tom feels a sharp thrust of shame and is
reminded of Aunt Dottie s taunt: Sissy! He s a sissy from the ground up (94). Tom is, at least
partially, motivated by Dickie s rejection of Tom s suspected infatuation with him. This aligns with
the strain of the gay villain in which gay and lesbian characters...are no longer victims but
victimizers psychopaths, who murder the objects of their affection (The Celluloid Closet),
particularly when they are rejected. Some statements offered during the decision... Show more

that Tom has feelings for Dickie, and when it is made evident that Dickie will not reciprocate
these feelings, Tom turns to violence. This imagined murder would not be too different from a
crime of passion and jealousy; crimes of passion are prevalent in society, and largely

makes Hadoop easier to use and more dependable. For ease of use, MapR provides network file
system (NFS) and open database connectivity (ODBC) interfaces, a comprehensive management
suite, and automatic compression. For dependability, MapR provides high availability with a self
healing no NameNode architecture, and data protection with snapshots, disaster recovery, and with
cross cluster mirroring.

throughput than competing distributions. It has ability ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In a production MapR cluster, some nodes are typically dedicated to cluster coordination and
management, and other nodes are tasked with data storage and processing duties. An edge node
provides user access to the cluster, concentrating open user privileges on a single host. In smaller
clusters, the work is not so specialized and a single node may perform data processing as well as
cluster management. Cluster services often change over time, particularly as clusters scale up by
adding nodes. Balancing resources to maximize cluster utilization is the goal, and it will require
flexibility.
Real Time Low Latency: Unlike other distributions for Hadoop, the MapR architecture is optimized
for deployments that depend on high throughput, low latency, high reliability, and no additional
administration to ensure production success and significantly lower enterprise data architecture
costs. Get faster results on larger data sets to respond more quickly to more complete data. Achieve
quicker application responsiveness for an enhanced user experience. Easily load and process high
volumes and high velocities of incoming data. Get low 95th and 99th percentile latencies to ensure

Collective Bargaining In The Workplace
With the passing of the National Labor Relations Act by Congress in 1935 private sector
employees were given the right to unionize and bargain collectively. Essentially this was a format
for employees to improve their wages and working conditions. This ended up allowing the States
to then decide if public sector employees were going to receive the same rights as private
employees and be able to unionize and bargain collectively for their working conditions. To simply
define public employees they represent workers at every government level. Basically teachers,
firefighters, police officers, postal workers and any other employee of the government at any level
that you can think of that provides services such as healthcare, education, and sanitation.... Show

The contract negotiations for these public workers are dependent not on private corporations,
but on the size of government budgets. This is the one segment of labor that can actually
contribute directly to the people because these jobs are considered a public service. It tends to
be the reason why you may see or hear about so much protesting from teachers attempting to
improve their work conditions and wages because they must unionize and get union leaders to
fight and make their bargains be heard. Believe it or not most states required schools to engage
in collective bargaining and other states allowed collective bargaining. For a job position that is
considered a public service and receives benefits from a government budget, it would make sense
for public employees to bargain for their benefits and concern. It s just not fair when the
government budget comes from the taxes of people and the money is not being distributed for the
right reasons. I think it s the politics of things because these workers are negotiating with the
government through union labor leaders and politicians but is there bargaining and unionization
actually leading to something beneficial to the people who publically serve us every day. Of
course it makes sense for them to unionize and fight for their lives and the lives of

Political Equality In Martin Luther King s I Have A Dream
This political representation and the economic equality that King advocates for manifest into a
third form of equality. As the African American community would begin to gain capital to build a
solid infrastructure for their communities or begin the transition and facilitated diffusion into
areas with affluence and or resources by way of legislation mandating the integration of public
facilities, they would have more education, opportunity to jobs, and access to an entire race of
people for love so that it was no longer prohibited. This equality is social equality, or the premise
of equity in the public such as in love or education.
This equality would revolutionize the times as, again, there was a specific subordination associated
with African Americancommunities associated with them being inhuman as a justification for the
slave trade. The process of achieving social equality not only meant that this idea of African
Americans as inhuman and subordinate had to be totally discredited as they could then be equals
with Caucasian populations. It also meant that the African American society had the opportunity of
social mobility whether it be educational status, fiscal class, or both. This threatened the elitism of
the majority Caucasian population. It was also revolutionary because the process of desegregation
would then mean that African Americans would be able to enter the same neighborhoods as the
Caucasian population.

car. This report focuses on the procedures and decisions involved in supplying the housing for
upcoming production.
HOUSING DEFINITION AND SUPPLY
Housings are fabricated through die injection molding. A resin is melted, injected, and stamped into
the die mold. The housing s function is to attach to the body of the vehicle, protect internal
components (cords, bulbs, etc.), and hold components in place so that the light functions as
designed. Each make/model has unique housing specifications with regard to size, durability, holes,
and necessary attachments to perform these duties.
As stated earlier, Firebird has the ability to produce housings in the molding division; however, of
the approximately 240 parts presently molded in Manufacturing IV, only 11 are housings. Firebird
also outsources production of housings to four central South Carolina molding firms: FPE, The
South Carolina Plastics Company (TOPCO), Central South Carolina Plastics (COPCO), and
Charleston Custom Plastics (WCP).

Breast Lift Research Paper
A breast lift, referred to also as a mastopexy, is a form of cosmetic surgery that raises and firms
the bosom. It does this by the removal of excess skin. Once the unnecessary skin is taken away
from the chest, the surrounding tissue is then tightened and is reshaped by the doctor. This process
will support the new contour of the breast. Having this procedure will enhance your appearance if
the upper half of your body has dropped and no longer looks as if it is situated where it once was.
Over the course of time, a woman s breasts change. The youthful firmness and shape that you once
enjoyed can disappear. In its place, you can be left with droopy and sagging breasts that suffer
from a loss of skin elasticity. This can occur as a result of fluctuations in weight, pregnancy, ...

A breast lift is a viable option for the female patient who is physically healthy and has maintained
a stable weight for an extended period of time. It is also the right choice for the woman who is
bothered by sagging breasts that have lost their volume and shape. If your chest is flatter, is
pendulous looking, or has an elongated shape, you may make an eligible candidate. Having
realistic expectations about the procedure is important. It is also recommended that a person who
decides to have this operation does not smoke.
If after your take your brassiere off, your nipples drop below the crease in your bosom, this may be
a suitable procedure that will enhance your upper body. If your nipples and your areolas point in
a downward direction or if you have enlarged areolas or stretched skin across your bosom, a
breast lift could improve your figure. If one of your breasts hangs lower than the other, a

Moral Dilemma
Everyday we are tested as individuals to make the right choice. How we view ourselves as
individuals and how others view us are directly correlated to our moral decision making. But
morals are somewhat misleading. What might be a wrong decision for one person might be a
solution to another. So how do we define morals? Do we follow Gods moral rules because to do
so would increase out likelihood of obtaining salvation in the afterlife? Or is it simpler than that.
Is God going to deny our entrance into heaven because we have run a stop sign here and there?
No. I believe our moral values are much simpler than that. I believe that our moral decision making

house. It was a magnificent morning. It was one of those crisp, cold mornings with no wind and
I could hear for miles and miles. I remember hearing my neighbor s dog, Orvis, barking two miles

was anxious as to what my family and friends would think of me. I needed to get a deer in the

As the morning wore on I began to get anxious and fidgety feeling that no deer were going to

the forest. I managed to get my scope in focus in time to see that there was a buck and a doe. My

The Mass Media Influence On Society
The mass media greatly influence the behavior and thoughts of citizens and policymakers, and has a
great impact on policy agenda. The mass media includes television, radio, newspapers, magazines,
the Internet, and other means of popular communication. There are two kinds of media; print
media, which includes newspapers and magazines, and electronic media, which includes television,
radio, and the Internet. There are various positives and negatives of the media and its relation to the
public and to policymaking.
The media allow for Americans to have access to new information, sometimes at a relatively low
price or for free. The mass media provide information for all Americans, regardless of
socioeconomic status; the mass media influence all people, not just the elites. This is important
because all Americans can gain knowledge about what is occurring in the United States
government, as well as around the world. The media can reach all Americans, but can also target
specific audiences and demographics. An example of this is when a magazine focuses on a
specific topic or area of interest. Because of the Internet and television News channels which report
news 24/7, Americans have a constant flow of new information, which they can access at any given
time.
The media are also utilized by politicians in campaigns to gain the attention of potential voters, as
well as to spread their platforms and ideas. Individual voters have a much greater sense of who the
candidates are due to

Elizabeth Acevedo Book Report
At the beginning of the year, I did not like to read whatsoever. My view on reading was tough and I

The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien
According to Dictionary.com a leader is a person who rules, guides or inspires others . Often a
leader is more than that. Leaders care about the group as a whole not just their individual part.
They see the big picture and help everyone else to see it too. They are the one the group looks up
to and depends on. If the leader is lost almost always a new unlikely leader is bound to emerge.
Leaders often do not know who they are until they are put in a position where they must lead for
the success of the group. Leaders play a huge role in the book The Hobbit. Jack Welch summarizes
the leader s role in this book perfectly. Bilbo before he is a leader, Bilbo when he is a leader and
Gandalf s actions all relate to the quote Before you are a leader, success is all about growing

The Great Gatsby And Cugat s Cover Art
Art and Literature connect in a multitude of ways, including style, message, and creative vision.
Yet, it is not often that these two converge in a way that heightens the messages of both. F. Scott
Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby and Cugat s cover art exhibit the synthesis of these two expressions.
By writing the cover into the story, Fitzgerald blurs the line that separates these two pieces of art
and merges their message of change to culture and the true nature of that culture. With the artistic
aspects of blue shade, bright imagery, and raw emotion, Fitzgerald provides the inspiration for
Cugat to paint the realistic picture of the 1920 s, while Fitzgerald constructs the world of the West
and East Egg, New York. The bright and colorful... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This means that bright lights, clothing, and their symbolism are used in accordance with race and a
person s color. Race is important in this story because the racism displayed by many characters in
the story, most notably Tom, actually exhibits the evil sensibilities of the West and East Egg
residents. This racial bias displays the American sensibilities of the time because of the racial
tension during the 1920 s. Yet, this oppression because of color opposes the bright colors of
prosperity. Sarah Churchwell states that the story, spoke of the American Dream, they meant the
American hope, the American aspiration, the American ideal. When people wrote of the American
Dream after 1930, they meant the American mirage, the American illusion... the American lie ( The
Great Gatsby Delusion 16). Also, she states that this portrayal of high class symbolizes the
attainment of the American dream and the desire to keep it, [i]f America is a land of fables, then
the American dream is supposed to be one of our favourites. Although most would call it a
consolatory idea, the phrase American dream was in fact created to describe not America s
success stories, but its failures: it was intended as a corrective to acquisitiveness, not a name for it.
(16). To expand on the idea of the American dream being built on failures and illusions, Churchwell
doesn t seem to describe what inspired that desire. In the story, Daisy personifies what the American

The Link Between English Reading And Mathematics
I noted that historically, any link between English reading (Arts) and Mathematics skills (Science)
seems to have been at best a tenuous one. The issue brought into the public domain by C P Snow
(Rede Lecture 1959) where he claimed: The two cultures (Arts and Science) stare at each other with
mutual hostility and dislike... If this state of affairs was reflected in educational establishments of
that time the likelihood of any meaning full cooperation between those engaging in the teaching of
readingcomprehension and mathematics would seem to be very remote indeed.
Thankfully, changes in opinion did occur over time and by the 1990 s interest in children s maths

He subsequently explains that it is the format for instruction that presents the difficulty. He
demonstrates if a given task is to calculate a mathematical problem and information is presented as
numbers with operational signs sequenced appropriately, children who understand algorithms can
proceed with ease. However, when the mathematical task to answer includes information that is
presented at the outset in words and sentences, pupils must first comprehend the text before they
can use the appropriate algorithmic skill. Obviously then even the best maths students cannot solve
problems they don t fully understand. Fuentes (1998) maintains the narrative of mathematical
problems tends to be compacted where mathematical concepts and relationships are often hidden,
implied or assumed and the pupil is left to expand and extract the true meaning. This is in marked
contrast to the narrative of storybooks which tends to be expansive and elaborate. In addition he
notes that the ambiguity found in the interpretation of for example, a poem may well be applauded
however any ambiguity in maths text interpretation simply means failure.
From research I have encountered thus far I must agree that good reading comprehension is
essential for interpreting mathematical texts. Baker (1995) and Christen and Murphy

The Best Things About Earning A Passive Income
One of the best things about earning a passive income is that there is no skill or knowledge glass
ceiling when it comes to doing so. It does not matter if you are a PHD student, a doctor with 20
years of experience, or a person who did not finish high school, anybody can earn a passive
income. A good demonstration of this is EBook writing; it may sound daunting at first, but
anyone can do it. Experts (job recruiters, psychologists, marriage counselors, dietitians, personal
trainers, hypnotists, etc.) Instructors (yoga, piano, etc.) Coaches (sports coach, vocal coach,
life coach, business coach, etc.) Teachers (language, cooking, etc.) These are all very diverse
professions, each requiring a different skill set, yet anyone in these professions could write a
bestselling EBook just based off their experiences. So, as you can see, it does not matter who
you are, as long as you are willing to work at it, you can build a very impressive passive income.
You do not have to be a professional either. All the above professions went through some form of
professional training, but even if you did not, you can still write a great EBook. Some people
may get intimidated because their writing is not good, or they do not think anyone will read it;
but look, the EBook you write does not have to be the next War and Peace; they simply have to
help your potential readership. The key is to focus on a problem or question that your potential
readers could have, and to solve that problem

Analysis Of The Poem Lady Lazarus
In the poem Lady Lazarus, there are many images that invoke the story of Jesus raising Lazarus
from the dead. The encounters that Lady Lazarus had with death both accidental and intentional
resonates a dark and grim tone throughout the poem. Looking at the lines four and five, she makes
a reference to the lampshades that were made out of the skin of slaughtered Jews by the Nazis. With
this reference she wants readers to make that connection between her and the Holocaustvictims. As
we go down to lines ten through fifteen, she tells the readers to peel off the napkin referring to
the white sheet used to cover corpses to view her face. She also describes herself having eye pits
instead of eyes and stinking sour breath . With those references, I interpret that as although

Geological Disposal Of Nuclear Waste Disposal
If properly executed, nuclear waste disposal need not result in any negative effects on humankind
or our environment. The goal is to build a storage site that is capable of safely storing spent fuel
until the fuel is no longer radioactive. Current radioactive waste is stored at above ground facilities
in vulnerable cooling pools. The long term storage of radioactive wasteought to be in deep
underground engineered facilities. This is known as geological disposal. Geological disposal is the
world s preeminent option when approaching the rapid growth rate of nuclear waste. While
numerous countries have found this to be agreeable, it has become extremely hard to sell local
communities on a site. It is widely believed that if the general public accessed the same
information that researchers have, the community would not fear discussing nuclear waste.
Researchers know that geological disposal s many barriers keep the waste safe from leakage. The
scientific community, after decades of research, has decidedly agreed that geological disposal is
the safest option for long term storage of high level wasteand Sweden, a country known for its strict
environmental laws, is in the process of building its disposal sites thanks to their hard work helping
its citizens understand where their fears of nuclear waste stem from and slowly dismissing them.
The general population seems to believe that radioactive waste remains a liquid essentially
establishing fears of leaks after the casks are

The Role Of Female Serial Killers On The Mind Of A Serial...
Delving into the mind of a serial killer can be a dark and twisted place to go, but also very
interesting and intriguing at the same time. While the majority of serial killers in history have
been men, women have also had their place in this type of crime. Often our first question when we
hear the news of a new serial killer, our first question is who is he? But as we will examine
through the research for this paper, women can also be geared to not only kill but to do it over
and over again. Although women historically are not as abundant as their male counterparts, there
is quite a list of female serial killers. Two of those women are Aileen Wuornos, who has been
deemed the first female serial killer, and Dorothea Puente.

Although authorities were unable to prove the attempted drugging, Puente was convicted and
sentenced to 5 years in jail on a theft charges. While setting out her jail time, Puente began a pen
pal relationship with 77 year old Everson Gillmouth. After serving three years of her sentence,
Puente was released in September of 1985, where she then moved in with Gillmouth and opened a
joint bank account. Unfortunately this would not end well for him. (Crime Museum, 2016). In
November 85 Puente paid her hired handy man to help her dispose of a large wooden box he had
built at her request for storage, but actually contained the remains of Gillmouth. Two months later
the box, with Gillmouth s remains inside, was discovered by two fishermen. The remains would not
be identified as Gillmouth for three years, but during this time Dorothea Puente was cashing his
pension checks and forging letters to his family members. (Criminal Museum, 2016).
Over the next three years Puente would take the lives of at least nine other victims. Her crimes
remained undetected until Alvaro Montoya, a mentally disabled and schizophrenic tenant of Puente
s missed a scheduled meeting with his social worker. The social worker reported Montoya as a
missing person. Authorities went to Puente s boarding house where Montoya was living and
discovered recently disturbed soil and they unearthed 7 bodies buried in the yard. Once the
investigation into the murders began, Puente was not yet

Olaudah Equiano Lesson Analysis
Historical events help people understand what life used to be like in the past. These stories can be
told in many different ways. They can be told through movies, narratives, and oral stories. In the
narrative The Interesting Life of Olaudah Equiano by Olaudah Equiano, the author tells his story
through an autobiography type of narrative. In Squanto: A Warrior s Tale, Squanto s story is shown
in a movie. In both stories, Equiano and Squanto have been captured by the white men and their
stories tell what they went through. EquianoВґs and SquantoВґs behavior during captivity,
treatment during captivity, and their feelings after release have much in common but they also vary
in different ways. Their behavior during captivity was very different because of the circumstances
of their situations. In The Interesting Life of Olaudah Equiano, Equiano was very sick of the
conditions he was living in. Equiano was in shock because of what was happening aboard the
ship he was on. Between the stench, the sick people, and people getting beaten by crew members
he didn t want anything else besides death. When Equiano states ВЁNor had I the least desire to
taste anything. I now wished for the last friend , death to relieve me,ВЁ it shows that he not only
didnВґt want to eat, but to die as well (Equiano 85). While Equiano was helpless on board of a
ship full of slaves, Squanto took more of an active approach. When the Pilgrims captured Squanto
they used him as a circus act by making him fight a

The houses were raddled. Thirty miles south until the next house. Horses grazing in green filled
pastures under big thick rumbling clouds. In between the little red wooden barn and the back
cow field sat a little red brick house. Inside did not have a happy family eating dinner every night

Cooper, flicked the t.v. on realized that a tornadohad shown up on the radar to hit Oklahoma,

Cooper caught himself waking up at 5 o clock one morning. He received a call for a car crash.
The car flipped over and there was a son and parents in the car. Instantly thinking of the day
where he found himself in the little boys position, Cooper thought for a minute, a minute of fear,
sorrow, but hurried up and got dressed and drove 102 mph to the fire station. Cooper was the first
rescue member there. He waited for five minutes for anyone else to show up but his adrenaline was
pumping to save this family so he couldn t wait. Arriving on scene Cooper threw himself out of the
SUV labeled Rescue Squad 398 OK in bright red bolded letters and raced himself to the car.
Disconnecting the door to the flipped over Honda Civic, Cooper pulled what seemed to the
mother out of the car. He delivered CPR to her and she finally breathed on her own. Once Cooper
noticed he drug out the father. Tying a shirt around his main artery which had been cut open from
the shattered glass. Once he realized both parents were stable he rushed to pull the little boy out of

Serotonin And The Human Brain
Experts say today that there really is no way children are not going to see it. Those who become
addicted to this risk free form of sex run a risk of another and greater kind; They risk the loss of
love in a world where only love brings happiness. About 11% of all internet visits are to these sites.
What is this unnatural destruction and how do we stop it from entering our minds? Pornography,
according to the dictionary, is sexually explicit videos, photographs, writings, or the like, whose
purpose is to elicit sexual arousal, as well as the production of such material. More specifically,

The human race wouldn t be where it is today without the evolvement of the brain. But
unfortunately, as astonishing as the brain is, different chemicals released can affect our abilities
and choices so easily. An adrenaline rush is a sudden increase in the secretion of adrenaline from
the adrenal glands. This happens when the brain communicates to the glands that there will be a
need for a fight or flight response. (Brogaard). Serotonin is regarded by some researchers as a
chemical that is responsible for maintaining mood balance, and that a deficit of serotonin leads
to depression (McIntosh). Another influential chemical released to the brain is dopamine.
Otherwise known as the reward chemical, dopamine is the brain s way of making us feel good.
Dopamine has the ability to rewire the neurons in the brain to connect memories or feelings with
substances, such as eating something delicious. The spontaneous neural activity of dopamine
neurons is greater in adolescents than juveniles or adults (Sturman and Bita). This translates to
teenagers having a higher tendency to get addicted to the release of dopamine through examples
of enjoyment such as eating, drugs, and, of course, pornography. The brain gets overwhelmed
by the constant overload of dopamine, and it fights back by taking away some of the dopamine
receptors. With fewer receptors and the same levels of pornography releasing the constant levels
of dopamine, viewers (especially adolescents) don t get as excited and tend to go looking for
more hardcore pornography for stronger releases of the reward complex. As another side affect,
regular activities that would usually cause healthy releases of dopamine, such as laughing or
seeing a loved one, don t have the same reward release and make the addicted user unhappy or
uneasy whenever they go for awhile without seeing pornography. (Fight the New Drug). It might be

Fireflies Figurative Language

a sleeping disorder called insomnia. But, for Adam Young, he had trouble sleeping at night, and
yet, still have a very colorful vivid dreams. In Fireflies , by Owl City, Adam Young is trying to
show his vivid dreams when he was young by using many figurative languages such as simile,
metaphor, hyperbole, personification, and repetition.
In the famous single, Fireflies , there were many uses of similes and metaphors to show his
vivid dreams when he was young. In stanza 6, Adam Young sang Cause I feel like such an
insomniac . This is an example of simile, Adam Young is comparing himself to a person who is
regularly unable to sleep. In the last stanza, Adam Young sang Because my dreams are bursting
at the seams . This shows an example of metaphor, because he is comparing two thoughts without
using like or as. In stanza 7, Adam Young sang I got misty eyes as they said farewell . This is
another example of metaphor, Adam Young is trying to convey the idea that he is going to cry as
the fireflies said a farewell. By using many similes and metaphors, we can ... Show more content on

In stanza 6, Adam Young said I m far too tired to fall asleep . This is an example of a paradox,
because the word far too tired seeming contradiction may reveal an unexpected truth. In another
stanza, Adam Young sang awake when I m asleep . This is an example of an oxymoron, because
oxymoron is a combination of two words that appear to contradict each other, and by staying
awake when asleep is a contradictory between the two terms. The use of oxymoron and paradox
is shown throughout the lyric. The purpose is to show that he is awake when asleep at the same
time, this will give a clearer idea of him having a vivid dream when trying to

Green Winter Through The Kick Starter Website
In efforts to grow the Seedfolk City Farm, Barker initiated Operation Green Winter through the
kick starter website, Indiegogo. This was a community focused urban agriculture project that
helped raise funds to continue operating the greenhouses during the winter. It also enabled them to
provide consistent year round after school employment for four of the young people that helped to
get the project off the ground. This campaign was in addition to several community events held in
efforts to raise money for the green winter . This was as a result of weather implications in
Rochester, NY, which prevented them from growing fresh fruits and vegetables. The pilot
aquaponic farming system would winterize the greenhouse by sustaining a year round farming
operation that enabled them to triple production capabilities with four new vertical grow beds. Not
only did the money raised help physically make these changes possible, but it also provided the
youthwith more after school activities as a result of these expansions.
ProsperRochester has relied on its partnerships to achieve its goals. In order to establish these
greenhouses, ProsperRochester teamed up with In The City/Off The Grid. ICOG is a Rochester
based cooperative business that offers solar installation services and general construction services,
while engaging in community development projects and employee training. Thankfully, ICOG was
able to assist with building and provide solar panels for the greenhouses.

They mate at sea then they return to land at night. The mother uses her hand flippers to dig a
circular hole 40 to 50 centimeters deep. When the nest is dug, she starts filling it with soft
shelled eggs until she has placed around 50 to 350 eggs. Some only lay 250 eggs depending on
the species. After she fills the hole with eggs she fills it with sand and makes sure it has a
smooth surface. She then camouflages the nest with grass so it s harder for predators to find. It
takes her about 30 to 60 minutes for the whole process. The mother then returns to the ocean while
the eggs are untended. The turtle gender depends on the temperature of the sand. Lighter sands
make higher temperature so that decreases incubation which makes more female turtles. It is
warmer in the middle of the nest so those sea turtles will most likely be females. Incubation takes
about 50 to 60 days. The eggs hatch together over a short amount of time. The hatchlings tear the
egg apart with their caruncle and an egg tooth. They then dig through the sand. All but one of the
sea turtles will hatch at night which is the Kemp sea turtle. It happens because they are most
endangered. Sea turtles that hatch during the day are more likely to be seen by predators. When
they reach the surface of the nest they go straight to the sea. The smaller the hatchling is the less
likely it will survive. This happens because smaller sea turtles are slower than bigger sea turtles (

Why People From Europe And Asia Have Developed Faster...
Prologue: Yali s Question
In this chapter, Diamond discussed why people from Europe and Asia have developed faster than
people from the Americas, Australia, and Africa. He asserts that it is not because of any genetic
superiority that the current unequal distribution of wealth and power exists. Diamond was
inspired to write this book because of a question posed to him by a Papua New Guinean named
Yali. Yali inquired as to whom white people have more cargo (material possessions) than Papua
New Guineans. Many in Papua New Guinea are still hunter gatherers while Europeans, North
Americans, and the East Asians have industrial societies with high levels of wealth, power, and
technology. In Papua New Guinea, survival is more of an intelligence ... Show more content on

It was geographical advantages that allowed Europeans to gain the guns, germs, and steel, that
enabled them to be a world power.
Chapter 1: Up To The Starting Line
This chapter starts off by explaining the evolution of the first human ancestors, which originated
around seven million years ago. Historians and scientists were able to conclude that the closest
living relatives of humans are the gorilla, bonobo, and the chimpanzee. All humans from the start
originated and evolved in Africa. Of the many evolutionary stages of humans, Homo erectus was
the first to migrate outward into other areas. Neanderthals have constantly been portrayed as
unintelligent, desolate, and inconsiderate creatures, from past and present points of perspective,
but evidence from archeological digs show they essentially cared for their sick and buried their
dead. The Great Leap Forward is what Jared Diamond calls the earliest signs or evidence of
uniform tools, bone tools, jewelry, and much more. This great leap was estimated to be around
50,000 years ago. Around the same period, hominids began to spread to New Guinea and Australia.
As hominids adapted to their new surroundings, large animal species were wiped out because they
weren t evolved to defend themselves against hominids and other predators. The extinction of many
large animal species in Eurasia occurred shortly after

Ang Lee s Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon Essay
Ang Lee s Crouching tiger Hidden Dragon is probably one of the most successful foreign films
to ever be screened in America. Being the number one film of the year in 2000. On the other hand
it was reportedly considered a flop in China. While it was influenced by American film styles, it
still kept true to many aspects of its Chinese filmheritage. With very apparent lovestory, it lacked
the Extreme amount of Kung Fu fight scenes eastern audiences have come to enjoy. This is a
stunning love story between a monk and widow. While it does have its share of over the top fight
scenes, when you start to dig deeper the films many social implications become apparent. With ties
to subjects such as religion, martial arts, philosophy, love, and even genderissues. This film is a
representation of the modern era and how long practiced traditions are being challenged. Each
character and plot line allows a glimpse into the Social and Traditional understanding of a culture.
Each character in the film represents some type of Social structure in China. Focusing on Li
Mubai, Yu Shu Lien, and Jen Yu, you are able to get a sense of the social and ethical ideals of
each class. Begging with Li Mubai, who embodies the stereotypical monk . He is always proper
and resilient to negative influences. He spends the greater part of his life studying Kung Fu, and is

  • 2. Essay on Female Chauvinist Pigs In Female Chauvinist Pigs, Ariel Levy attempts to reconcile her personal views of feminism with its portrayal in popular culture. In order to challenge what she sees as a co opted version of feminism, Levy raises the question of authenticity of sex positive feminism (Levy, 63) on two levels: by selling out in terms of the body and in terms of our patriarchal culture. In order to restore a binary relationship between feminism and non feminism, Levy recasts this sex positive feminism as a new form of (fe)male chauvinism. To do so, Levy turns to the experiences of several young women whom she interviews. From her interpretations of these experiences, Levy reaches the conclusion that these women s sexual nature revolves around their need... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This binary relationship manifests itself in Levy s work in another way, as well. Toward the very end of the book Levy claims she has no complaint against women who do gain genuine sexual pleasure from their vaginas waxed, their breasts enlarged (Levy, 198). On one hand, Levy recognizes that sexuality is personal and that everyone s own experiences and preferences are unique. Yet at the same time, by drawing the line between authentic and fake , she must impersonally interpret these experiences in order to classify them as problematic . This desire to judge yet not judge women s sexual nature represents an underlying tension within the book that threatens to unravel her arguments. Levy further asserts her binary comparison in a temporal manner by comparing the feminism of the past with the feminism of the present, as she claims in recent years, the term feminism has fallen further and further out of favour (Levy, 86). By framing her own views of feminism as those belonging to an earlier point in the timeline, she privileges these views as original or authentic . Yet this does not acknowledge that the anti porn wars of the 80 s was a point at which feminism branched out, rather than transitioned from one set of beliefs to another. As a result, the cultural changes that she observed occurred in the presence of both stances of feminism, making it difficult to distil the cause. Levy privileges past over present in her suggestion ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay On Ideology Of Pakistan The consequences of independence from British control over India and demise of British colonial power in the South Asian subcontinent led to the genesis of a new country up on the world map on 14th August 1947. Undoubtedly, the fundaments of the demand of a separate country were based on the religious identity and an intention to provide a secure haven for the Muslims from Hindu dominated India. However, Pakistanwas not meant to be a theocratic state, in which the rulers of government are vested with the uncontrolled power of religion. Instead, the founder of Pakistan Muhammad Ali Jinnahnot only wanted an independent state for Muslims, in which Islam had primary role affirmed by the apparatus of the state but also a place in which other faith groups could live with... You may belong to any religion or caste or creed that has nothing to do with the business of the state. 2.2Ideology of Pakistan The ideology of Pakistan was two nation theory, according to which, Muslims and Hindus are two distinct nations from every aspect of their lives. One of the core reasons of the separation of the Subcontinent was that, post colonial Indian state failed to offer reasonable options to its Muslims minority to sustain in India. Therefore, the problem of minority rights was the cutting edge of all the political debates revolving around the formation of Pakistan. While Jinnah s approach represented a state having equality for all and free from any kind of discrimination of religion, caste and creed, there was a demand from fundamentalist Islamic leaders for a strict Islamic mechanism to run the state affairs. Jinnah demanded a state for Muslims minority in India, where religious freedom offered to other faith groups could be observed as the matter of tolerance and acceptance on behalf of the Muslim majority. 2.3Objective ... • 4. Bullying Is The Job Of Parents And Schools Bullying is when you force someone to do something they do not want to, and it can cause stress or then leads to suicide in some cases. In Schoolyard Bullies by Stephanie Simon, prosecutor James Backstrom maintains school bullies should go to jail. However, I do not think bullies should go to jail, because there are different degrees of bullying. Some bullies are victims, and sending bullies to jail does not cure them. Stopping bullying is the job of parents and schools. Parents play a key role in preventing and responding to bullying. Parents should recognize the warning signs that the child is involved in bullying. Children could be being bullied, bullying others, or witnessing bullying. Although these signs could signal other issues, parents should talk to their children if they display any sort of behavioral or emotional changes. Many times children won t ask for help, so it is important to know what to look for. If the child is at immediate risk of harming himself or others, parents need to get help right away. Just sending the children who are bullies to go to jail, and doing jail time are not a good way to correct children s behaviors. I understand the rationale . . . , but incarceration is a fairly big stick, says Susan Limber, a bullying expert at Clemson University. You can get the same payoff with a lot less drastic measures (Simon 2). Moreover, if the children go to jail, they might not change their mind, even though their behavior will be ... • 5. The Setting Of August Wilson s Gem Of The Ocean Jessica McNamara English 104 Freed 16 October 2017 The setting of August Wilson s Gem of the Ocean is 1904 Pittsburgh. It has been 40 years since the abolition of slavery and the Second Industrial Revolution is alive and well. Between 1870 and 1914 the United States saw an important change in the labor and working class, technological advancements took production from a handmade to an automated factory setting. The development of manufacturing produced a necessity for numbers of factory laborers. These laborers faced extensive hours, unfortunate working conditions and job insecurity. In Gem of the Ocean, several of the characters have memories of servitude and have come to the understanding that what they believed to be liberation has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I m just starting out sleeping there. I asked one fellow what board meant. He say they supposed to give you something to eat. They ain t give us nothing. I say okay. I can t make them give me nothing. What I m gonna do? I got to eat. I bought a loaf of bread for a dime. A bowl of soup cost ten cents around the corner. I wasn t desperate. I had sixty five cents to make it to payday. I ate half the bread and say I would get a bowl of soup tomorrow. Come payday they give me three dollars say the rest go on my bill. I had to give the man what own the house two dollars. What I m gonna do, Miss Tyler? I told the people at the mill I was gonna get another job. They said I couldn t do that cause I still owed them money and 22 they was gonna get the police on me. The incidents in this excerpt that Citizen describes were not uncommon for that time. During the Industrial Revolution, company towns, communities built by businesses, developed up across the country. Although the concept may have appeared ideal a number of companies made more money from cheating their workers than from what they produced. During the boom in textile, coal, steel and other industries, workers often earned what s called scrip instead of real money: a kind of credit they couldn t spend anywhere but the company store, where prices were often higher than elsewhere. • 6. The Advance Traveler Information Systems The motive and idea proposed through this paper is to implement Advanced Traveler Information Systems (ATIS) that is potential enough to provide solutions for problems encountered in cases of both, informed and non informed users. After several route choice studies and investigations, experts conclude that impact of elaborated and virtually supported information determine vast difference in theoretical and methodological approach to ATIS. As an attempt to develop the technologies appropriate to establish an Overall Intelligent Transportation System supported with real time and accurate data to make travelerdestination/route choices a happy decision. Generally both, descriptive or prescriptive concept of pre trip traveler information has a positive impact. It increases the traveler s confidence to explore deeper, bargain in the new land, use freeways properly and make better informed transit choices. En route visual data and information offer tested guidance, saves travel time, helps to avoid congestion, improves traffic performance and provide more efficiency than paper maps, written instructions or previous traveler experiences (BoozAllen Hamilton, 1998). However, recent studies have revealed people s lack of awareness about the system and its diminished usage. The efforts and rework carried to overcome this weak link register a pitfall in the prevailing system which exhibits the limitation of visual data in it. A way that the tribes overcame this issue was by setting up different points and each drummer would acknowledge the sender s message by a series of beats on the drum. After the message was confirmed received then the message would be sent to the next receiver. In the times of the American Indians, the tribes would use smoke signals as a form of wireless communication. The downside to this form of communication was the limited distance based on line of sight. Due to a limited alphabet and the issues, that the wind causes would increase the chances that the communication would be lost or misinterpreted. Soon followed was the introduction of the semaphore flag. The semaphore flag system is one used to convey information at a distance by using signals with flags, paddles or gloved hands. The downside to this form of wireless communication is that it is limited to line of sight as well, and that because this had to take place in the open the chances of your message being stolen is increased. Science that Drove Wireless Development (Wenclewicz) In the nineteenth century, light beams were used for short haul communications, particularly in military contexts. Very detailed messages could be transmitted by a coded sequence (Morse code) of blinking lights from sender to receiver. Again, this was effective over limited distances and provided a quiet, yet visible means of communication. Drawbacks included limited ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Between Science And Christianity I remember it well as if it were yesterday, but it over 40 years ago when I walked into Dr. E s. Office asking for his opinion about something; that I needed help having to do with correctly responding to the interrelationship between Science and Christianity. I had my own discernment and interpretation on this topic, but I wanted a practical, realistic way to approach this discussion when asked, even if it was a couple days later, or during a confirmation class. Though I did not have Dr. E as a professor, or took one of his courses in geology, I knew that he could help me in a constructive way. Dr. E. was my mentor and sponsor and he was always receptive to anything that I had to ask whether it was a simple or complex question of the day. On that day, I wanted to know his understanding of Gods creation of science, its separation from, but more so to its correlation to the theology of Christianity. At times, I was puzzled by some people s insistence that the two shall never meet. Where I was coming from the standpoint and still hold true, that Jesus, Son of God is the Great Physician as recounted in the healings parables and based and John 5:1 9. I also believed and have no problem seeing that science and medical advances were beneficial and true blessings from God. Another vital point of understanding that I base this reflection upon is the profound belief that that God works his power and purpose through the means of science as wisdom and hard work is expressed ... The managers aimed to increase productivity for sustainable development of the company. Back in 1998, to pursue highly productivity, the plant was redesigning its production lines to incorporate new technology, however, the transition was not smooth, some problems had emerged, such as the staffs moral and efficiency declining and the internal contradictions being intensified between the managers and employees. As the result of it, the previous manger resigned in 1998. After that, the new manager, Ron Bent believed in the power of worker incentive programs and wanted to establish one at Engstrom. Eventually, the plant adopted the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to my analysis, the problems are distrust between the managers and employees and unfairness of rewards between the employees and supervisors. In order to keep productivity and profitability of the plant, it should resolve the issues urgently before the situation deteriorated further. I recommend the option two is better for Bent to deal with these problems for the plant. Firstly, communication is the most important factor that affects the relationship between managers and employees. If the managers could listen advices of the work in time from their employees, it not only will be more easier to handle the existing problem in the company, but also will improve the relationship between managers and employees because the staff feel the company takes, to respect and to trust them, feel oneself is in enterprise s one, and they can have the confidence and the sense of responsibility for the development of their company. Secondly, it is to give the appreciation by managers to employees frequently that will improve the employee morale because they will feel more attached to their company. As the result of this, employees will devote to their work without any complaint. Consequently, because of the improvement of relationship and employee morale, the efficiency and productivity of company will improve with the efforts of all staff and give them corresponding reward. • 10. Analysis of Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird, by... Wallace Stevens is not an easy poet to understand. His work is purposely twisted and tangled so one is forced to thing whether they want to or not. Stevens poetry ranges from real life situations to situations which are simply a depiction of his imagination. One thing can be concluded though, Stevens does not allow his work to have a single meaning. Why should he? This is the upmost quality that makes his stand out from his competitors in the poetic industry. An interesting theme though which Wallace truly enjoys writing about, in all seriousness, is something thought provoking perception. The book definition of perception is appending [something] by the means of senses or the mind. In his poem, Thirteen Ways of Looking... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is where one can see the new role the blackbird is playing. A new perception of the bird. It is now part of one s conscious. It does not have an on or off button that any human can control just like a river...moving (Stevens 48). A new theme is suggested in this part which makes its way up to the top a couple more times in the work. It is choices. It this specific case it is clear that the individuals the speaker is referring to do not have a choice but to acknowledge the bird. In the fifth part on the other hand, once again a new idea is presented and this is not the case. Here the bird becomes an objectified beauty but this doesn t last long because as the sixth part approaches, the readers once again return to the winter time filled with icicles (Stevens 17 19). A circular pattern can now be seen with the seasons. Another hint of a continuous process occurring the process of perception. In the seventh stanza the speaker calls up the thin men of Haddam (a city in Connecticut) and asks about the golden birds (Stevens 25 26). He goes on to say that the Blackbird walks around the feet of the women about [them] (Stevens 28 29). What could he possibly mean? • 11. Autobots Attempts To Stop Decepticons The movie Transformers is about Autobots trying to stop Decepticons. Autobots and Decepticons are forms of Transformers that have been fighting for years. Scenes from the movie are spectacular. Certain scenes from the movie are very great such as when Optimus fights the T Rex, when Cade Yeager finds Optimus Prime and gets his house raided by Special Agent Savoy, and when the Autobots ended the battle with the Decepticons. Autobots are normally the good transformersand Decepticons are usually the bad guys. From the time Cade Yeager finds Optimus Prime, Cade knew Optimus was a transformer. At the time the U.S government had award money for anyone who spotted or found a transformer. The government was giving award because the Transformers had previously started a war on U.S soil and the government now wanted them gone. So Cade insisted to his friend Lucas to not tell anyone about Optimus being hidden in his warehouse. So the next couple days past and Optimus and Cade grew to kind of know each other. As Cade s daughter was just getting home, a swarm of police vehicles and helicopters emerged on to Cade Yeager s property. Tuesday came and I slacked off a little because I started feeling sick on Monday afternoon and felt even worse Tuesday, so I got preoccupied on trying to feel better and didn t work on the schedule I planned, besides doing homework and going to my final critique. Wednesday I felt better so I was able to focus on the schedule again, reorganizing my room as well as my bathroom. In that year, Flemmish artist Jean Hey, known as the Master of Moulins, painted The Annunciation to adorn a section of an alter piece for his royal French patrons. The painting tells the story of the angel Gabriel s visit to the Virgin Mary to deliver the news that she will give birth to the son of God. As the story goes, Mary, an unwed woman, was initially terrified about the prospects of pregnancy, but eventually accepts her fate as God s servant. The new emphasis on learning, especially via direct observation of the natural world, led to new artistic techniques that allowed artists to mimic those of the ancients. The Early Renaissance was, therefore, a progression of observing the works of the ancients, and undergoing a new process of trial and error learning from prior mistakes and tracing the path of artistic creation. The aim of the artists was to better their abilities at portraying human characteristics, both physical and emotional, while creating a more ideal finished product, something that was as significant in presence as the natural world itself. Much progress was made in these campaigns during the Early Renaissance, and the emergence of the High Renaissance was characterized by the true mastery of the method of creating mankind s body and emotions[1], and an artwork as balanced as nature itself. Jean Hey s The Annunciation demonstrates the product of this final Renaissance transition. One of the more intricate elements of the human form whose representation the High Renaissance perfected was that of hands. The Annunciation is evidence of this. As the African American community would begin to gain capital to build a solid infrastructure for their communities or begin the transition and facilitated diffusion into areas with affluence and or resources by way of legislation mandating the integration of public facilities, they would have more education, opportunity to jobs, and access to an entire race of people for love so that it was no longer prohibited. This equality is social equality, or the premise of equity in the public such as in love or education. This equality would revolutionize the times as, again, there was a specific subordination associated with African Americancommunities associated with them being inhuman as a justification for the slave trade. The process of achieving social equality not only meant that this idea of African Americans as inhuman and subordinate had to be totally discredited as they could then be equals with Caucasian populations. Similarly, someone who is heterosexual is not going to turn gay from reading a book that features a child being raised by two moms (Newman 113). • 34. The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien According to Dictionary.com a leader is a person who rules, guides or inspires others . Often a leader is more than that. Leaders care about the group as a whole not just their individual part. They see the big picture and help everyone else to see it too. They are the one the group looks up to and depends on. If the leader is lost almost always a new unlikely leader is bound to emerge. Leaders often do not know who they are until they are put in a position where they must lead for the success of the group. Leaders play a huge role in the book The Hobbit. Jack Welch summarizes the leader s role in this book perfectly. Bilbo before he is a leader, Bilbo when he is a leader and Gandalf s actions all relate to the quote Before you are a leader, success is all about growing yourself. Yet, it is not often that these two converge in a way that heightens the messages of both. F. Scott Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby and Cugat s cover art exhibit the synthesis of these two expressions. By writing the cover into the story, Fitzgerald blurs the line that separates these two pieces of art and merges their message of change to culture and the true nature of that culture. With the artistic aspects of blue shade, bright imagery, and raw emotion, Fitzgerald provides the inspiration for Cugat to paint the realistic picture of the 1920 s, while Fitzgerald constructs the world of the West and East Egg, New York. Race is important in this story because the racism displayed by many characters in the story, most notably Tom, actually exhibits the evil sensibilities of the West and East Egg residents. This racial bias displays the American sensibilities of the time because of the racial tension during the 1920 s. Yet, this oppression because of color opposes the bright colors of prosperity. Although most would call it a consolatory idea, the phrase American dream was in fact created to describe not America s success stories, but its failures: it was intended as a corrective to acquisitiveness, not a name for it. If this state of affairs was reflected in educational establishments of that time the likelihood of any meaning full cooperation between those engaging in the teaching of readingcomprehension and mathematics would seem to be very remote indeed. He demonstrates if a given task is to calculate a mathematical problem and information is presented as numbers with operational signs sequenced appropriately, children who understand algorithms can proceed with ease. However, when the mathematical task to answer includes information that is presented at the outset in words and sentences, pupils must first comprehend the text before they can use the appropriate algorithmic skill. Obviously then even the best maths students cannot solve problems they don t fully understand. Fuentes (1998) maintains the narrative of mathematical problems tends to be compacted where mathematical concepts and relationships are often hidden, implied or assumed and the pupil is left to expand and extract the true meaning. This is in marked contrast to the narrative of storybooks which tends to be expansive and elaborate. In addition he notes that the ambiguity found in the interpretation of for example, a poem may well be applauded however any ambiguity in maths text interpretation simply means failure. • 38. The Best Things About Earning A Passive Income One of the best things about earning a passive income is that there is no skill or knowledge glass ceiling when it comes to doing so. It does not matter if you are a PHD student, a doctor with 20 years of experience, or a person who did not finish high school, anybody can earn a passive income. A good demonstration of this is EBook writing; it may sound daunting at first, but anyone can do it. Experts (job recruiters, psychologists, marriage counselors, dietitians, personal trainers, hypnotists, etc.) Instructors (yoga, piano, etc.) Coaches (sports coach, vocal coach, life coach, business coach, etc.) Teachers (language, cooking, etc.) These are all very diverse professions, each requiring a different skill set, yet anyone in these professions could write a bestselling EBook just based off their experiences. So, as you can see, it does not matter who you are, as long as you are willing to work at it, you can build a very impressive passive income. You do not have to be a professional either. All the above professions went through some form of professional training, but even if you did not, you can still write a great EBook. Some people may get intimidated because their writing is not good, or they do not think anyone will read it; but look, the EBook you write does not have to be the next War and Peace; they simply have to help your potential readership. The key is to focus on a problem or question that your potential readers could have, and to solve that problem ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Analysis Of The Poem Lady Lazarus In the poem Lady Lazarus, there are many images that invoke the story of Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead. The encounters that Lady Lazarus had with death both accidental and intentional resonates a dark and grim tone throughout the poem. Looking at the lines four and five, she makes a reference to the lampshades that were made out of the skin of slaughtered Jews by the Nazis. With this reference she wants readers to make that connection between her and the Holocaustvictims. As we go down to lines ten through fifteen, she tells the readers to peel off the napkin referring to the white sheet used to cover corpses to view her face. She also describes herself having eye pits instead of eyes and stinking sour breath . With those references, I interpret that as although technically she is alive, her body is almost dead. We get more of the gruesomeness of the speaker coming back to life in lines sixteen through eighteen Lady Lazarus states that the grave cave , which is symbolism of death, ate the flesh that was on her within her home. In line twenty one, she briefly compares herself to having the nine lives of a cat through a simile but in a much grimmer version by saying she has nine times to die. When Lady Lazarus refers to annihilating a trash in lines twenty three to twenty four, my interpretation of that statement is that she is speaking about death. Once a decade she comes close to dying. In effect, she is calling her life, otherwise referred to her body as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The human race wouldn t be where it is today without the evolvement of the brain. But unfortunately, as astonishing as the brain is, different chemicals released can affect our abilities and choices so easily. An adrenaline rush is a sudden increase in the secretion of adrenaline from the adrenal glands. This happens when the brain communicates to the glands that there will be a need for a fight or flight response. (Brogaard). Serotonin is regarded by some researchers as a chemical that is responsible for maintaining mood balance, and that a deficit of serotonin leads to depression (McIntosh). Another influential chemical released to the brain is dopamine. Otherwise known as the reward chemical, dopamine is the brain s way of making us feel good. Dopamine has the ability to rewire the neurons in the brain to connect memories or feelings with substances, such as eating something delicious. The spontaneous neural activity of dopamine neurons is greater in adolescents than juveniles or adults (Sturman and Bita). This translates to teenagers having a higher tendency to get addicted to the release of dopamine through examples of enjoyment such as eating, drugs, and, of course, pornography. The brain gets overwhelmed by the constant overload of dopamine, and it fights back by taking away some of the dopamine receptors. With fewer receptors and the same levels of pornography releasing the constant levels of dopamine, viewers (especially adolescents) don t get as excited and tend to go looking for more hardcore pornography for stronger releases of the reward complex. As another side affect, regular activities that would usually cause healthy releases of dopamine, such as laughing or seeing a loved one, don t have the same reward release and make the addicted user unhappy or uneasy whenever they go for awhile without seeing pornography. She then camouflages the nest with grass so it s harder for predators to find. It takes her about 30 to 60 minutes for the whole process. The mother then returns to the ocean while the eggs are untended. The turtle gender depends on the temperature of the sand. Lighter sands make higher temperature so that decreases incubation which makes more female turtles. It is warmer in the middle of the nest so those sea turtles will most likely be females. Incubation takes about 50 to 60 days. The eggs hatch together over a short amount of time. The hatchlings tear the egg apart with their caruncle and an egg tooth. They then dig through the sand. All but one of the sea turtles will hatch at night which is the Kemp sea turtle. It happens because they are most endangered. Sea turtles that hatch during the day are more likely to be seen by predators. When they reach the surface of the nest they go straight to the sea. The smaller the hatchling is the less likely it will survive. This happens because smaller sea turtles are slower than bigger sea turtles ( Life ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. Why People From Europe And Asia Have Developed Faster... Prologue: Yali s Question In this chapter, Diamond discussed why people from Europe and Asia have developed faster than people from the Americas, Australia, and Africa. He asserts that it is not because of any genetic superiority that the current unequal distribution of wealth and power exists. Diamond was inspired to write this book because of a question posed to him by a Papua New Guinean named Yali. Yali inquired as to whom white people have more cargo (material possessions) than Papua New Guineans. Many in Papua New Guinea are still hunter gatherers while Europeans, North Americans, and the East Asians have industrial societies with high levels of wealth, power, and technology. In Papua New Guinea, survival is more of an intelligence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Chapter 1: Up To The Starting Line This chapter starts off by explaining the evolution of the first human ancestors, which originated around seven million years ago. Historians and scientists were able to conclude that the closest living relatives of humans are the gorilla, bonobo, and the chimpanzee. All humans from the start originated and evolved in Africa. Of the many evolutionary stages of humans, Homo erectus was the first to migrate outward into other areas. Neanderthals have constantly been portrayed as unintelligent, desolate, and inconsiderate creatures, from past and present points of perspective, but evidence from archeological digs show they essentially cared for their sick and buried their dead. The Great Leap Forward is what Jared Diamond calls the earliest signs or evidence of uniform tools, bone tools, jewelry, and much more. This great leap was estimated to be around 50,000 years ago. Around the same period, hominids began to spread to New Guinea and Australia. As hominids adapted to their new surroundings, large animal species were wiped out because they weren t evolved to defend themselves against hominids and other predators. The extinction of many large animal species in Eurasia occurred shortly after ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
