Who Remedios Varo Is By Inga Muscio
Throughout the art history, women have been involved in making art, whether as creators and
innovators of new forms of artistic expression, patrons, collectors, sources of inspiration, or
significant contributors as art historians and critics. Women have been and continue to be integral
to the institution of art, but despite being engaged with the art world in every way, many women
artistshave found opposition in the traditional narrative of art history. They have faced challenges
due to genderbiases, from finding difficulty in training to selling their work and gaining
recognition. In Who Remedios Varo Is , Inga Muscio argued this issue by suggesting that Remedios
Varo, one of the top 19th century surrealist painters in the art history, did not... Show more content

But nowadays, women has become more powerful and even gradually take men s place in the art
world and gain more achievements for themselves. What have been changed throughout many
years of art history? Throughout the length of this essay, I will explore this problem by giving the
brief view about gender bias and the way it affects women artists in the art world from the past,
then mainly discuss about how women has overcome gender bias, in order to be succeeded in art
world nowadays.
Gender bias is known as the inclination towards or the prejudice against one gender, which are
women in art world in this circumstance. This is an unequal treatment in employment opportunity,
such as privileges or benefits (Oxford dictionary). It is also known as women discrimination.
According to Inga Muscio, Remedios Varo did not receive the recognition she deserved because of
the male social system. The white, male portion gave them the authority to present art as an artist
but not women. Women did not have a right and had been excluded from the process of creating art
(202). So, what had happened in the 19th century, which prevented Muscio from gaining her
recognition

Leo Tolstoy s Colonel Sarty Snopes
For my dinner party, I am going to invite William Faulkner, Victor Hugo, Leo Tolstoy, and the
character Colonel Sarty Snopes. I have chosen these guests because of their connection with
revolution. Leo Tolstoy writes about the revolution one takes at the scariest moment of one s life,
death. According to The Norton Anthology of Western Literature, What, Tolstoy asks us, is the
relationship between abstract, universal truths and our intensely felt personal experience?
(Puchner et al. 1440; 4) Faulkner writes about, the clash of generations and ways of life, racial and
family tragedies, and in almost archetypal terms, the opposition of good and evil (Puchner et al.
1992; 3). Hugo explores not only the French Revolution but also the revolution... Show more

This vision was of a liberation in this life from the tyranny of time and the terror of death. I want
to know if Tolstoy believed his life to be the same as Ivan. According to his answer, I would then
ask, If not, what questions do you think you will ask yourself, if any? I would ask him the
questions because I want to know if he believes people ask the same questions when they are
dying, or does it depend on how they have lived their lives. Does Tolstoy think the same as
Hudspith when it comes to his views of death: Time, then, may be seen as a key element in
Tolstoy s view of immortality; this has implications, as we shall see, for characters perceptions
of time in his novels, their attitudes to their past, their present, their future and inevitable death?
I would then ask him if he even thought he would influence someone as religiously influential as
Gandhi (Puchner et al. 1439; 1). I just find it amazing that he inspired someone who has inspired
millions. I would then ask what he thinks of the current violence in the world i.e. police brutality
of racial groups and our current problems. I would ask Faulkner, Why did you criticize Southern
hypocrisy and culture? I think by getting the answer to this would allow me to better understand
how Faulkner writes and why. I would then ask him why he made up a whole new place,
Yoknoupatawpha County (Puchner et al. 1994; 3), instead of using Oxford as his setting. This
will answer the question, did he do it to not hurt the people of Oxford, or did he do it to disconnect
from the events happening in the story? I would ask Faulkner about a

Figurative Language In Mirrors By Justin Timberlake
The song Mirrors by Justin Timberlake has a lot of figurative language I will prove a couple cases
where that is true.
Mirrors by Justin Timberlake has a lot of simile. A simile is a figure of speech involving the
comparison of one thing with another thing of a different kind. It is used to make a description
more empathic or vivid. The quote it s like you re my mirror from the song is a simile you know for
a fact that it is a simile because a person cannot be a mirror. So Justin Timberlake is comparing a
mirror to a person. A mirror and a person are nothing alike so you can automatically see that it is a
direct comparison.
This song also has a lot of symbolism. Symbolism is an artistic and poetic movement or style using
symbolic ages and

Aquinas Religious Values
Saint Thomas Aquinas was born in 1225, Roccasecca, Kingdom on Sicily, and died on the 7th of
March 1274, Fossanova, Papal States at about 48 to 49 years of age. He was a Catholic Priest
and was known as the Doctor of the Church . He was thought to be the church s best out of all its
philosophers and theologians. Pope Benedict XV stated that this Order had obtained a new light
when the church had declared the teachings of Saint Thomas, with the special praises of the Pope,
to be the master and patron of the Catholic schools.
There is nothing on this earth more to be prized than true friendship
This quote could inspire Aquinas College students to get to know more people in their community
and to get along with everyone. It could also inspire students to be more aware of the environment
and elderly in the community, like Saint Thomas Aquinasdid. This is what Jesus was trying to
teach us too, as it is stated in the bible many times. This is My commandment, that you love one
another, just as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for
his friends. (John 15:12 13)
My House Patron is Edmund Ignatius Rice. My house values are Courage and Compassion.
Edmund Rice used these values to help others that were less fortunate and to make people more
aware of big issues, like the lack of education most children had in those times.
To be Couragous and Compassionate to others like Saint Thomas Aquinas did.

The suitability of the use of animal models and SiRNA Technologies in autosomal dominantly
inherited neurodegenerative disease
Dr P Martin
Biomedical Science
Abstract: The treatment of dominantly inherited neurodegenerative disease has been not feasible
until recent discovers of gene therapy. Discovers such as short interfering RNA (siRNA) which
cause gene silencing due to the molecule forming a complex with messenger RNA (mRNA),
resulting in the degradation of mRNA through pathways in the cell. The siRNA properties shows
the potential in the treatment of such diseases. However the advancements of such therapies
require mouse models to carry trails, to allow the development of safe and reliable treatment when
given to a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However the prevalence of such diseases is in areas where there are small community resulting in
interbreeding, for example Huntington s disease (HD) and Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS); are
prime examples of such incidents. This class of diseases causes the apoptosis of neurons and
surrounding cells. The outcome for the sufferers has often been death. However there is promising
developments in gene therapy, including SiRNA therapy in the treatment of these diseases.
Small Interfering RNA (SiRNA) was discovered by Andrew Fire and Craig Mello, receiving the
Nobel Prize in 2006 for their work. (Kaur et al, 2012) Typically SiRNA are between 21 and 23
RNA nucleotides in length. SiRNA has the ability to cause the inactivity of a genes expression in
somatic mammalian cells; has proven to be an exceptional tool for researchers for the control of
disease causing genes and theoretical treatments of inherited diseases in the future. However
siRNA can only be used once the target mRNA sequence is known. (Sioud, 2004) However due to
the Human Genome Project, a large portion of the target genes have been sequenced allowing
SiRNA to become more practical.
The siRNA molecule is the product of the RNA interference(RNAi) pathway. The starting
molecule in the pathway is a long triggering double stranded RNA (dsRNA). The dsRNA is
formed from either an RNAi molecule inserted into the cell or a siRNA which complexes with a
specific strand of messenger RNA

Why Advertising Alcohol Is Destroying Public Well-Being Essay

Why Advertising Alcohol Is Destroying Public Well Being When I was nine years old, I remember
seeing the most delectable, mouthwatering commercial on television. It was for beer. Growing up in
a family that did not drink, I never thought beer could look so appetizing. The beverage was
everywhere I looked except for in my own fridge. Not only adults, but kids and teens everywhere
are being bombarded with alcohol advertisements. Many of these youths choose to succumb to
these ads and end up with destructive drinking habits. Not only is alcohol damaging to youth but
also to adults. According to a U.S. study, adults were found to put themselves at severe risk of
harm after having more than four drinks in one session (Medew). This number can change
depending on the gender, size, athleticism, and other factors of the consumer. Although some may
say that alcohol is not too damaging if drunk responsibly, the fact that alcohol is a direct route to
damaging organs like the liver, heart, and pancreas and harming the brain is a red flag
(NIHSeniorHealth). To whatever extent, alcohol weakens the brain s control over movement,
speech, memory, and especially judgement, which often leads to impulsive behavior and other
dangerous activities (NIHSeniorHealth). There are plenty of harmful side effects of drinking, so
the obvious solution to preserving the nation s well being is to not encourage it. One quote by a

Barbaric Masculinity In Anthony Burgess A Clockwork Orange
A clockwork orange by Anthony Burgess is commonly(different verb) praised for shedding light on
Toxic masculinity even in 2018 when in fact perpetuates and even normalizes this toxic form of
masculinity. The form of barbaric violent masculinity alex portrays is just that, barbaric and violent
to men and women today. However a Clockwork orangealmost inspires some to adopt this toxic
masculinity. Anthony Burgesstries to raise awareness for a reality he unknowingly inaugurates.
I cannot speak for the 1960 s or 1970 s when the book and movie were released, but in 2018 toxic
masculinity is neither common nor promoted in society. The type of masculinity promoted in
modern movies is a direct reflection of the values masculinity holds today.

Lincoln s Representation Of Lincoln
There has been a scant amount of research on how Abraham Lincoln has been illustrated in
motion pictures. Yet, movies have a dominant clout on how Lincoln s images has been
established in American popular culture. Movies such as Birth of a Nation, Young Mr. Lincoln,
Abe Lincoln in Illinois, and Lincoln have given audiences different glimpses of the sixteenth
president. The legend of Lincoln has been created and altered in film in oder to create a hero to

The word rhetoric has various meanings. Rhetoric can be easily explained as the ways in which
signs influence people. As history goes on we see the rhetoric changes over time. Rhetoric has
been studied for a countless number of years. The beginnings of rhetoric starts off in the roots of
the Western World with the Greeks. Political rhetoric can date back to the days of the Greeks
and the Romans. The Roman Republic relief on writing and letters to produce legislation for it s
citizens. The printing press aloud for mass production of political news. The radio made
political stories more intimate especially for the listeners at home. Television gave viewers an
image of politics in action. Finally the internet brought the world together and made more aware
of international news. Rhetoric has always been an essential to political communication for
hundreds of years. Movies are not just clips that move and tell a story but, they are also clips
that can move an audience. We need movies to open are eyes to the implication our our realities
(Brummett, 6). Now we we focus on rhetoric and pop culture. We unknowingly witness rhetoric in
everyday life. To first understand how rhetoric influences Lincoln films we must begin looking at
one of the building blocks. Everything is a s sign in rhetoric. In the rhetorical world a sign is
something that has meaning and can allow us to be remind of something else. Signs will be a crucial

Analysis Of Tim O Brien s The Things They Carried
The Silent Killer: An Analysis of Imagination Evolving into a Distraction in Tim O Brien s The
Things They Carried
In Tim O Brien s The Things They Carried , O Brien created several allusions that each character
endured during the Vietnam War. Throughout the story were vast representations of the things the
soldiers carried both mentally and physically. The things they carried symbolized their individual
roles internally and externally. In addition to the symbolism, imagination was a focal theme that
stood out amongst the characters. This particular theme played a role as the silent killer amongst
Lt. Cross and the platoon both individually and collectively as a group. The theme of imagination
created an in depth look of how the war was perceived through each character which helped
emphasize their thoughts from an emotional standpoint of being young men out at war.
Imagination hindered the platoon which clouded their judgment and decision making. Instead of
remaining focused their wandering mind lacked what was necessary, assessing the task at hand. In
some respects, though not many, the waiting was worse than the tunnel itself. Imagination was a
killer. (O Brien 619) In relation to the quote imagination was a killer , this metaphor represents how
the soldiers made situations like being in the tunnel mentally challenging for them. Paranoia
quickly consumed their thoughts and emotions before partaking in the actual mission. The men

Chapter 3
3 1 Describe the major sources of income and expenditures for households
1. (Evolution of the Household) Determine whether each of the following would increase or
decrease the opportunity costs for Mothers who choose not to work outside the home. Explain your
answers.
a.Higher levels of education for women
b.Higher unemployment rates for women
c.Higher average pay levels for women
d.Lower demand for labor in industries that traditionally employ large numbers of women
Higher levels of education for women would increase the opportunity cost for women chosing to
work outside the home. The opportunity cost rises because as a women s education level increases,
so does the available positions the woman is qualified for, hence a higher level of income. This
means a woman chosing not to work outside the home is forgoing the opportunity for higher
education for women to benefit her and her potential to earn higher wages. ... Show more content on

Fewer positions equal fewer opportunities. Therefore, women chosing not to work outside the home
are not effected by higher employment rates for women. Higher average pay levels for women
would increase the opportunity cost. Women chosing to work outside the home would have more
opportunity at higher wages. Whereas, women chosing not to work outside the home relinquish the
higher earnings. Lower demand for labor in industries that traditionally employ large numbers of
women would mean fewer positions available for women choosing to work outside the home,
causing the opportunity costs to fall. Again, this would have very little effect on women choosing
to not work outside the home.McEachern, W. A. (2015). ECON macroeconomics (4th ed.).

American Exceptionalism
As John Winthrop once described what would become the United States as a city upon a hill,
American Exceptionalism was born on enlightenment principles of political liberty and equality.
This political foundation of liberty and equality for the United States in the new world was founded
on the idea of natural, God given rights, and these enlightenment principles seen the Declaration of
Independence became the core of American political thought would survive and evolve through
nineteenth century Hegelism culminating in the American Civil War. The most famous of
Enlightenment thinkers was an Englishmen by the name of John Locke, the father of liberalism.
In his work, Second Treatise Concerning Civil Government, Locke famously stated that Reason,
which is the law, teaches all mankind who will but consult it...no one ought to harm another in his
life, health, liberty, or possessions; for men being all the workmanship of one omnipotent and
infinitely wise Maker. This was summarized down to Life, Liberty, and Property, where no man
can or should be derived of his personal freedoms and that all men are equal under God. While
these ideas did not take hold in in Europe until the French Revolution in 1789, they did take root in
the English colonies in America for their founding in 1776. When the thirteen colonies voted to
break away from the United Kingdom, they had Thomas Jefferson write the declaration of
independence, and the main inspiration for this was John Locke. The most

Plumb Bob Research Paper
The Aztec people used a mechanism called a plumb bob in order to create or extend perfectly
straight vertical lines for building, surveying land, and navigation. In its simplest terms, a plumb
bob is a string pulled taut by a weight attached to the bottom of it. Early plumb bobs were weighed
down with stone. When being used for construction, the plumb bob is used to find the
perpendicular: a straight line at a 90 degree angle to a given line or plane. To get the plumb line,
end result, the plumb bob must hang freely, not touching any surface behind or below it. When the
weight stops swinging, gravity pulls the weight to the center of the earth, leaving it directly under
the point above it, resulting in a straight line. The perpendicular,

The Advantage Of The Media And Social Media
What about the media? Media disability is another advantage. Incumbents are linked to every
media outlet, the television, radio, internet, and social media. Technology is the biggest platform in
this day and era. A study by Pew Research Center concluded that 62 percent of U.S. adults obtain
their new on social media. Incumbents can reach every audience, young, middle aged, the elder as
well as those who come from different backgrounds.
Ever wondered where incumbents get the money from to constantly send flyers to your house or
the ones that get put in your windshield or doorknob? We witness and experience this all the time
during election time. They have franking privilege. Franking privilege is when lawmakers send
certain mails to their voters without payments of postage. However, the only people that are
allowed this privilege are members of Congress and the Vice President. The sitting president does
not.
Incumbents also have access to a lot of resources once they ve established a strong support system.
For example, voter catalogs and contact information. The catalog consists of all parties who are
registered to vote, the party they favor, telephone number and district. It is vital and big deal for
candidates to have this information because they can contact and pursue those to vote for them. Not
everyone incumbent or candidate is fortunate to acquire this information.
Finally, amongst all the other advantages, incumbents have the advantage of patronage and
casework.

Comparison Of Enter With Out So Much As Knocking By Bruce...
Bruce Dawe was an Australian Poet born in Victoria, 1930 and is considered one of the most
influential Australian poets of all time. Two of his poems, Enter With Out So Much As
Knocking (EWOSMAK) and Drifters convey two different Australian voices and images but
are brought together through the idea of life as a cycle. EWOSMAK focuses on life s
frustrations and annoyances in modern Australian society and Drifters focuses on nature

would move often in seek of work and hopes of income. Bruce Dawe uses his poems to convey
his own Australian identity and how he relates to the society of 1950 60s Australia. P1

frustrations. This is displayed in the final stanza through lighting Parking tickets , Bobby Dazzlers

The New Greatest Generation By Joel Steins
In Joel Steins article The New Greatest Generation he gives his opinion on the millennial
generation. The ones that are born between the years of 1980s and 2000s are considered
millennials. Stein believes that the millennial generation is lazy. An example of Stein believing
millennials are lazy would be when he mentions how we would rather be an assistant than an
actual CEO of a company. I believe that statement has something to do with millennials being
lazy because we would rather take the easy way out such as being the assistant than working
towards being some bigger and better. Another example in his article would have to be how he
mentions technology. I agree technology plays a major role of the millennials being lazy
because it s addicting, and it makes them feel as if they don t have to do anything because
everything is on the internet. Stein also talks about parents and how they re more of a friend
than a parent which could also play a part in millennials being lazy. The previous generations
wasn t lazy as the millennials are today because our generation has more technology use than
they had so they didn t have no choice but to get out and work for their families. The previous
generations didn t have any distractions that will make them lose focus such as becoming a leader
in the workforce instead of being lazy and okay with being an assistant to someone. First, I would

technology and the horrific contentment that society has with automobile wrecks. Written during
the 1940 s Shapiro has been known for writing about simplistic things yet with grave detail. In
Auto Wreck Shapiro uses similes and metaphors to describe a surreal feeling of an automobile

He states that every auto wreck can cause a massive amount of danger while being ignored by

an extravagant and almost unreal in the destruction that it causes to the people involved. He
describes the people by saying We are deranged, walking among the cops. (Line 15) He is
showing how the people are mentally disturbed by the extreme amount of damage that has
happened. Shapiro then goes into detail describing the way the police cover up the horrific

common for the police as they already have an understanding of how to deal with this extravagant

remarkable inventions like the automobile, the radio, and the telephone which all had advanced
and change how we live today. This era was also when Canada took the necessary steps in
achieving greater autonomy from Britain. Canadians believed that Canada should no longer be

social actions. Even though many of them abandoned their religious pathway of becoming
ministries or missionaries they were still discouraged in the corruption in American politics and
the separation of rich and poor classes. Ida B Wells was a young protestant known as a muckraker,
whom worked in investigation journalism, her goal was to dredge up the muck in American
institutions. Ida B Well exposed John d Rockefeller as he had turned his Standard Oil Company
into monopoly. The govenor of New Year, theodore Rooseveltgained congresses attention by his
strong dedication, leadership and effort to rid the state of corruption and patronage. This type of
characteristics was exactly needed in a president during this time of movement. Roosevelt was
chosen to be McKinley s running mate. McKinley won the election but choose Roosevelt as his

Depression In The Lords Of Discipline By Pat Conroy
A majority of people associate the root of depression with mental or emotional trauma, but they do
not realize that in a large amount of cases depression is the result of a preventable problem outside
of the brain. In The Lords of Discipline by Pat Conroy, multiple characters have to confront
depression. John Poteete, an overweight freshman cadet at the Institute, and Annie Kate Gervais, a
southern girl with an undesired pregnancy, exhibit all the signs of depressionthroughout the novel to
the point of attempting or committing suicide. Even though they are facing events that are mentally
and emotionally distressing, that is not the only reason they are suffering. Depression is not solely
caused by psychological circumstances, but can be traced... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In another article written by Kelly Brogan, a psychiatrist with a degree in cognitive
neuroscience, she uncovers that, not a single study has proven that depression is caused by a
chemical imbalance in the brain (Brogan 1). Although it was common belief that depression was
tied to a chemical imbalance from distressing life experiences, it is now apparent that this theory
is lacking proof. People are still misdiagnosed when nothing is actually wrong with their brain.
This can be seen with another example, that comes from one of Doctor Izabella Wentz s readers.
The reader had been taking antidepressants for several months and decided to be tested for
Hashimoto s. She found that she only needed thyroid medication to improve her depression instead
of spending money on expensive psychiatric care (Wentz 1). Patients are lacking proper treatment
since their treatment is not addressing the cause of their predicament. This is not only affecting the
several people examined in this argument, but is impacting millions. There are 30 million users in
America alone (Brogan 1). To a greater extent, antidepressants are among the most prescribed, best
selling drugs (Brogan 1). This indicates that there are millions of people who are mistreated and
have depression. Physical

Observation On Observation
You can answer the following questions. After observing at different schools and possibly different
grades,
1. Do you still want to become a teacher? Why or why not?
After doing my observations, I still want to become a teacher. Going into this class, initially I
was hesitant and unsure if I wanted to pursue teaching, but after one full day of observing a
kindergarten class I am sure this is what I want to do with my life. Seeing the children so excited
to learn really made me happy, and I want to be able to encourage that excitement in children
myself. I think teaching is a very important job, and thought it is a little scary how much
responsibility the career is, I think I am up to the task. I would love to be able to know I am
helping the world by teaching children and giving them knowledge they can use in life, and
encouraging them to learn academics and about the real world so they can grow up and be
successful adults and citizens. I really love working with children, and I think I would enjoy
teaching them what they need to know.
2. Do you still want to teach the grade you originally chose from the beginning of the semester?
Explain. If you did not have a chosen grade, do you have a better idea? Explain.
I still definitely want to teach elementary school, preferably kindergarten, 1st, or 2nd grade. I was
also slightly considering high school (my sister teaches high school and keeps trying to convince
me to teach high school as well), but after observing a high school class, I know I for sure want to
stick with elementary school. I think I work very well with children and that I could be more
successful teaching small kids, rather than teenagers. I also prefer to be with one set of kids all day,
rather than 5 or more sets of kids for an hour every day. I think it would be difficult for me to get
used to having too many sets of kids, so one set would be the best for me, and I think I could be
more helpful to the children if I was only with one set of kids all day long. I also like that in
elementary school the teacher is responsible for teaching all subjects and can create lesson plans
so all the subjects relate to each other, which I would love to do. I don t have one subject I prefer
over others, so I

Tornado Wind Poem
Furthermore, in the fourth portion of the poem shows the speakers obligations to maintain her
freedom. In stanza four the speaker then states, I am a tornado child born in the whirl of clouds;
the center crumbled then I came. My lovers know the blast of my chaotic, giving that they
tremble at the whip of my supple thighs; you cross me at your peril, I swallow light when the
warmth of anger lashes me into a spin, the pine trees bend to me swept in my gyrations... (Lines
16 22). The speaker discusses his sexual encounters in lines sixteen through twenty two with the
Rosalie Richardson. The speaker explains how to maintain a sense of freedom through
sexuality, which was one of the ways that black southerners maintained their freedom. The last
lines of the poem which is in stanza five states, I am a tornado child. When the spirit takes my
head, I hurtle into the vacuum of white sheets billowing and paint a swirl of color, treaked with
my many songs (23 26). According to the text, stanza five just outlines the seemingly
purposeless nature of Rosalie s life. The speaker becomes creative by adding the use of colors to
describe the tone and Rosalie s feeling throughout the poem. The speaker uses white to describe
Rosalie life as a blank canvas and the swirl of color shows how she is open to various cultures,
which are greatly influenced by Dawes because he is exposed to numerous cultures. While
freedom is manifested in Dawes s poem, hopelessness is shown in Brooks poem. Therefore, in
Brooks poem We Real Cool, wickedness is defined through hopelessness. Throughout the poem
darkness manifests itself as the narrator discusses a group of teenagers that s all about living wild
and dying young because of hopelessness. The narrator starts off by displaying that they seem like
they are content with the alternative lifestyle that they outline throughout the poem, but that defiant
mood abruptly ends at the last line, when their demise seems to be an effect of all the
responsibility they had been putting off over the years. The poem describes the men s fears, their
motivations, and who they think they are, as opposed to who they really are. The first part of the
poem begins with, We real cool. We Left school (Lines

How Roundworms Can Affect Women s Fertility
There are many factors that can effect women s fertility, such as health problems, weight and
generics. When a couple is trying to conceive many doctors and health care professionals will tell
their patients to continue trying for about a year. If the couple has tried for a year without any
positive results, they may need to consult their professional once more and see what their options
are.
For many years IVF, has been one of the only methods women can try to become pregnant. That is
no longer the case, researchers have found that different parasitic worms such as roundworms can
alter a woman s immune system. Increasing their chances of becoming pregnant. In a recent study

The Differences Between Our Culture And That Of Saudi Arabia
As a manager of a multinational company, I would have a report set up on the cultural differences
between our culture and that of Saudi Arabia. In the report, there would be further explanation of
the differences of cultures pertaining to religion and general way of communicating. Furthermore,
the report would be used as a learning tool, by describing the sensitivity and actions around the
different categories of cultural awareness, cultural collision, using religion as a cultural stabilizer,
cultureshock and the ability to adjust. Once the study is completed I will make a recommendations
for the team to follow during their trip to Saudi Arabiain addition to figuring out the additional

A company s success internationally hinders on the action of becoming culturally aware.
Therefore, during business deals in Saudi Arabia it is important to adapt and change your selling

How Did John F. Kennedy Act Through the Cuban Missile Crisis
The Cuban missile crisis of 1962 brought the world to the brink of nuclear war. What was at stake
in the crisis, and how do you assess President Kennedy s response to Khrushchev s provocation?
Was Kennedy prudent or rash, suitably tough or needlessly belligerent?
By Jeremy Leung 299722
USA The World 131 236
The Cuban Missile Crisis was perhaps the closest that humankind had ever become to experiencing
a thermonuclear war. In October 1962, the world watched perilously, as U.S. president John F.
Kennedy warned his people of the amalgamation of Soviet arms in Cuba. John F. Kennedy refused
to accept offensive Soviet artillery in such close proximity to the U.S., but Soviet chairman Nikita

The reasons why McNamara and Kennedy and other U.S. politicians were so fearful of a nuclear
was because according to U.S. analysts at the time, the 24 MRBM s (Medium range ballistic
missiles) and sixteen IRBM s (intermediate range ballistic missiles) that were found in Cuba had
significantly increased the number of U.S. targets that the Soviet s could lethally attack by forty
percent.[8] Furthermore, having missiles within Cuba allowed the Soviets to bypass the U.S.
warning radars, especially the Ballistics Missile Early Warning system, which was stationed in the
North Pole.[9] By bypassing the U.S. warning radars, it certainly amplified the risk of a surprise
strike upon certain American air bases and important command posts.[10] To address this risk, the
U.S. army went from Defence Condition Five (peacetime alert) to Defcon 3 (war alert) which
further illustrated the high levels of precautions the U.S. government were taking in order to protect
itself from an offensive attack from the Soviet.[11] It was quite clear from these precautions that the
impending nuclear threat in Cuba threatened the lives of American civilians, troops, and
government officials. In the event that the situation escalated out of control, the two world
superpowers could have engaged in a third World War that, with nuclear technology had the
potential to kill hundreds of millions of civilians and soldiers.[12] Fortunately, the Cuban Mission
Crisis never escalated this

BP had shifted it focus from safety regulations that governed operations and focused on individual
safety for it employees. Some say there was pressure from above even though it was never stated

project at Macondo was to not loose any returns on the investment.
Their unwillingness to take ownership of the spill as a direct of result of negligence and human

The info in the report could be a continuing PR problem for BP because of the damage that they

Compare Contrast on Poems.
Whoso List to Hunt by Sir Thomas Wyatt and Sonnet 67 by Edmund Spenser are sonnets that are
very similar at a first glance, but delving deeper, a difference can be found. Both of these sonnets
use imagery and figures of speech relating to the hunt of an unobtainable woman as well as that
central theme. Through a deeper analysis it is revealed that these two authors have a different
interpretation of this failed hunt. A comparison and contrast of Whoso List to Hunt and Sonnet67

tone, reveals a different view on the problems faced in by these two speakers. Whoso List to Hunt

As he describes these escapades, he says The vain travail hath wearied me so sore (Wyatt, 3).
This reinforces the theme by showing how much long he has been fighting to get her. Later on,
the narrator is once again lamenting his impossible quest: Since in a net I seek to hold the wind
(Wyatt, 8). By giving us this statement, it shows how fruitless the speaker s hopes are. This
theme is also prominent in Spenser s Sonnet 67 . As the narrator describes his love life he says,
Seeing the game from him escaped away (Spenser, 2) showing how unobtainable this woman
truly is. Later on the speaker supports the theme again, by saying So, after long pursuit and vain
assay (Spenser, 5). On the speaker s journey, he has attempted to get his girl, but each time it
never works. These two poems are quite similar as they both have the same theme. Even though
they seem to almost be the same poem, there is one big difference within the poems. The two
poems have a very different tone, with Wyatt s being much more clingy and stubborn, while
Spenser s being more contemplative and realistic. In Whoso List to Hunt the narrator is much
clingier: Fainting I follow (Wyatt, 7). Even though this woman will never take him in, he still
pushes on and refuses to let go. Similarly, he supports this by saying, Yet by no means my wearied
mind/Draw from the deer (Wyatt, 5 6). The narrator has obviously been trying to court her for

Analysis Of The Five-Forty-Eight
The Five Forty Eight The Five Forty Eight by John Cheever is a short story about a woman, Miss
Dent, whom gets her revenge on a man, Mr. Blake, who has no morals that slept, fires, and
ignores her. In The Five Forty Eight by John Cheever the story engages me by the suspenseful
exposition, the anticipation of the climax, and the clever resolution. The suspenseful exposition
engages me to read more to see the outcome of the story. Then he wondered if she was following
him (Cheever 2). Starting from the very beginning the exposition is suspenseful of the terrified,
and confused man wondering if the woman is following him or not. As reading that quote I want
more insight on what would make this woman want to follow him. Does she want to harm him?
Is she just wanting to talk to him? Who is she? She might be meaning to do harm she might be
meaning to kill him (Cheever 2). From thinking the woman is following him to wondering if she
is meaning to do him harm escalated the suspense in the exposition. Asking myself many
questions as to why Mr. Blake would think that she wants to harm him, and why would she want
to harm him? He could run although he was afraid that if he did run, it might precipitate the
violence he now felt sure she had planned (Cheever 4). This quote told me that he was sure that
she was trying to harm him. Deciding if Mr. Blake should run told me he figured out Miss Dent

One of the biggest factors that have to be evaluated is the cost of the service plan. Service plans
seem to change now almost daily. And with the major carriers all jockeying for market share,
there is always a value to wait as long as possible to see what the carriers are going to do next. As
competition for the smartphone data plan gets bigger, the plans become more affordable. Cost
for the smartphone itself is also a factor that drives supply and demand. Every year the major
players come out with new and updated versions. Every time a new phone debuts the price of
the previous phones version to go down. If you are an early adopter of technology then you are
looking for the best purchase options and options for upgrades. There are a lot of changes that
are being made with carriers that used to subsidize the cost of a new phone; now buying one
every year has become less desirable due to the high cost. With the amount of competition today in
the smartphone market, an increase in prices for the device is almost a sure death sentence.
Smartphones are very inelastic in pricing because there is less and less differentiation in substitute
products and most buyers can easily transition from one brand to the next. Many consumers are
concerned about the features of the phone. This means the technical abilities of the phone as well
as the apps that are able to be downloaded to the phone to increase its

Running head: CASE STUDY IV: INTERNET GAMBLING
CASE STUDY IV:
Internet Gambling
May 6, 2006
This document will inform you about the history of internet gambling, the existing issues, and a
number of concerns involved with online gambling. Prior to the launching of the World Wide Web
in 1993 which changed the setting of gambling, people had to travel great distances to gamble. The
world s first virtual online casino, Internet Casinos, Inc. (ICI) commenced operation on August 18,
1995 with 18 different casino games. Most of these online gambling companies are located outside
of the U.S. to avoid government prosecution. ICI operates out of the Turks and Caicos Islands
(Kish, 1999). One of the main reasons internet gambling ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This so far seems to be the best solution, however ethical and moral dilemmas still rest in the
hands of our lawmakers today. The next issue facing internet gambling is taxes. This seems to be
the government s biggest issue. This is because of the billions of dollars we mentioned for profit
by these online sites, government can gain significant amount of money from it. The legalization
of Internet gambling may cause states to lose some revenue generated from legalized gambling
operations because many gamblers would spend their money online (Lassani, 1998). Moreover,
states lose revenue by not being able to tax gamblers who win over the Internet. Gamblers who win
over the Internet have an incentive not to pay taxes on their winnings because the Internal Revenue
Service (IRS) lacks the resources to track online gamblers (Lassani, 1998).
The likelihood of addiction to Internet gambling among both children and adults is an extremely
important concern. In relation to addiction, children are more likely to become addicted to
something new than adults (Smith, 2004). For example, the video game like nature of virtual
casinos, labeled the crack cocaine of gambling, could make online gambling a temptation difficult to
resist. Furthermore, the fact that the Internet gambler need not leave the comfort and privacy of his
or her home could mean that an individual might become easily addicted. This is the worst

When I was four years of age I attended a swimming club at Seven Islands in Southwark. The
pool was fairly large and was rarely crowded, that was one comfort for me. Seven Islands had
many activities other than swimming, I myself did not choose to do swimming my mum had
decided that I would benefit from it.
My first day at the club started in a shallow pool opposite a larger one. I already knew two people
who came with me, that made me feel a little confident despite the crying of other children. We had
two instructors a man and a women both were roughly in their thirties the man had brown hair and

The day I learned to swim was a normal day, one month after I started. After school my mum
brought me home to get my swimming gear ready for swimming, when I arrived at Seven Islands I
was told that one of the instructors had gone on holiday, in his place was a new women who was
tall and had brown hair and was from Australia. The new lady was nice and spoke softly. She and
the other women decided to see if we could swim without assistance, she started with me first she
held both of my hands and told me to start kicking before I knew it she let go of my hands so I
had to rely on moving them to support myself I then realized that I was actually swimming alone,
after about three seconds I caught the ledge, the shock of it distracted me I could not believe it.
When the instructress went on to other people I tried again this time using different styles of
swimming I was confident with diving and front stroke. At the end of the session I was pleased
with myself and so were my friends.
Three years after practicing and learning more and more I kept attending I never missed a session
until finally the club moved to Walworth road, they gave each member an application form saying
that each member acknowledged that the club was moving and that you would still attend. I

How Does Elie Wiesel Use Dark Imagery In Night
In the book Night by Elie Wiesel, it shows the things that Elie went through in the concentration
camp. Elie uses dark imagery to show how physically miserable it was for them. Also, we are able
to see his perspective on how they were treated to the point all they felt was pain, and mostly what
he went through mentally and physically. In Night, the most crucial external conflict revolves
around the Nazi party which is shown through the perspective of Elie Wieseland his use of dark
imagery. The way it impacted the life of Elie because the Nazi party caused him more personal
problems like questioning if his father is worth being with, his relationship with God, if he
should still live, and in the end the way he saw himself was different. One way the conflict
develops is by Wiesel s use of dark imagery. In the text it states I no longer felt anything except
the lashes of the whip (Wiesel 57). This quote gives you an image of torture, shows how they were
treated by the Nazi party. By him saying I no longer felt anything it indicates that they treat them at
a lesser value to the point that Elie really had no emotions... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

For example he was questioning his belief, will to live, and if his father was worth sticking with.
The text states Don t forget that you are in a concentration camp. In this place, it is every man
for himself and you cannot think of others. Not even your father (Wiesel 110). This quote shows
that it doesn t matter if it is your father, so Elie should only care for himself. This impacts Elie
because he loves his father, you should love your father. For many people to tell him to abandon
his father and just not stick with him it can really break down someone emotionally especially if
they have been there since the day you were born, and Elie loves his father. They have been through

Effective Cold Sore Home Remedies
It may be your time to try cold sore home remedies after other formal treatments have not fully
solved the problem. These sores are such a nuisance they go for a season and come back a gain.
This time, I thing we need more determined or robust home remedies for cold sores to deal with this.

Resolving Small Business Disputes in New York
New York is home to thousands of business. Some are international corporations, others are local.
In New York, there are businesses in every industry, and, and some point, these businesses will face
disputes. For small businesses in New York particular, a businessdispute can mean the end of the
life of the company, due to its tremendous expense and its potential to damage a business reputation
in the community. Fortunately, business disputes in small businesses do not always result in an
expensive lawsuit, and many are resolved without court assistance at all.
Every business, even the smallest ones, needs a plan in place for handling disputes. It is best for
the business owners and managers to create such a plan when there are no active conflicts within
the company. Each business should have a method for resolving customer complaints,
disagreements between employees, conflict with other companies, and so on. A business attorney
is an excellent resource for putting these plans into place. When conflict does arise, each party to
the dispute will understand how it will be resolved, providing a more efficient method of finalizing
a disagreement.
It is essential to handle business disputes as soon as possible before they cause unnecessary
animosity and stress within the business. Businesses may

In correlation to the above paragraph; In 1970 the CHW (community health worker program)
was set in motion, with a key element in achieving the WHO goal health for all by the year 2000
, (Van Ginneken, et al., 2010) However, interest waned from the 1980 and 1990 due to
government failure in areas where the programmes were depended on. In 1994, with the rise of a
new government, nearly all CHW programmes fell out of service as they were seen as a racial
infliction. The first CHW programmes helped malaria patients mostly, and in 2005 these programs
reemerged but focused on aiding patients diagnosed with HIV/AIDS. A possible

Blood On The Forge Analysis
Exploitation of African Americans Seen in Southern and Northern Environments as Accurately
Depicted in Attaway s Blood on the Forge
William Attaway s novel, Blood on the Forge, displays a family torn apart as a product of
systematic exploitation. In the compelling narrative, the Moss brothers, Big Mat, Chinatown, and
Melody, migrate to the north in motivation of Big Mat committing the murder of his riding boss. As
they begin to adjust, their perception of the north s assumed and rumored opportunities quickly
conforms to the reality of what is actually offered. Through plot lines of the very act of migrating,
acclimating to regenerated labor and norms, and, finally, the dissolution of the brothers identities
and close family connection, it is observed that their exodus to the north is just as empty of benefits
as the south. Attaway accomplishes depicting an accurate account of the contrasting exploitation
that occurred in both the north and the south by portraying the Moss brothers demise as a result of
their migration from a systematic, rural setting to an industrial, diminishing, and, ultimately,
unfamiliar environment along with how the two regions parallel in similarities concerning
economical and social consequences, permanently affecting the brothers altogether mentally and
physically. Where there was great potential for a rebirth of opportunity and success, the result was a
contrasting reality of misery and permanent damage.
Attaway subtlety foreshadows the mandatory reformation, hard labor, and levels of exploitation
that were to come in the depiction of how the Moss brothers were transported to the north. They
were bunched up like hogs headed for market, heading into the unknown (Attaway 38). Attaway
ties a few key moments of historical allusion in the description of this particular mode of
transportation. To put in context, when Africans were relocated over to America for the purpose
of serving as slaves, the transportation was quite similar. It was dark and crowded, just as Attaway
describes this scene. Warm urine began to flow as they had no choice but to relieve themselves
just as the Africans had no other option but to alleviate their bladders (Attaway 38). The stark
imagery of the

Public Choice Theory And Public Choice Theory
Public choice or public choice theory means the use of economic tools to deal with traditional
problems of political science, it also tries to explain how public decision are made. It is directed
towards the study of politics based on the economic principles. The public choice theory is a strong
variant of the rational choice theory. The theory is concerned with the provision of so called public
goods, goods that are delivered by government rather than the market, because, as with air, their
benefit cannot be withheld from individuals who choose not to contribute to their provision. What
lies at the heart of public choice theoryis the self interest maximization theory. Public choice works
hand in glove with economics. Economics is the study of individual presences and the interaction of
those preferences with firms in market settings. As South Africa keeps on endeavouring toward
protected change, it appears to be suitable to inspect regularizing open decision hypothesis for bits
of knowledge that may be pertinent toward the South African established process. Regulating open
decision, regularly called established financial matters, involves a similar examination of the
standards and organizations that represent financial, social and political interactions. Constitutional
financial matters augments the business sector trade worldview to the investigation of tenets and
organizations. There is a crucial refinement between, from one... Show more content on

Depression And Depression In The Bell Jar By Sylvia Plath
Depression is like drowning in a pool of water and there is absolutely no escape from it. In The
Bell Jar, written by Sylvia Plath, the main character, Esther Greenwood goes through the awful
troubling depths of depression. The Bell Jar goes back in time beginning in the summer of 1953
and follows the story of Esther Greenwood. Esther should be having the time of her life having
won an internship in New York City, but the unfortunate truth is that she is slowly falling further
into a deep depression. Sylvia Plath strongly incorporates metaphors, internal conflict, and
symbolism to reveal the theme that despite the hardships and awful drowning thoughts that
plague people s mind, life does get better, if only people don t lose hope. To begin with, Sylvia
Plath successfully incorporates internal conflict to reveal that Esther doesn t know what to do
with herself after not getting accepted into the writing program of her dreams, which is also
when she starts falling into her deep depression. According to author Kirsty Grocott, the illness
is [Esther s] reality and everything outside [Esther s] own head feels flimsy and unreal (Grocott,
Sylvia Plath s Bell Jar Still Haunts Me ). Esther feels unsure of what she wants to do with her
life. Esther saw her life as if it was a fig tree. She saw one fig as a husband and a happy home and
children, and another fig was a famous poet and another fig was a brilliant professor (Plath
Sylvia 77). Esther seems paralyzed on what fig she wants to choose. It appears as if she wants
all of them, but she realizes that if she only chooses one she can t have the rest. Esther appears
bewildered because she doesn t know what life choice to make. The hardships that Esther is
enduring appears to be too much for her to handle. Secondly, Sylvia Plath strongly utilizes a
beating heart as a metaphor to disclose how Esther just can t find the will to succumb to her
depression. When decides to go to the beach on a double date, the thought of drowning herself
profoundly crossed her mind. As she was swimming in the ocean she thought: that drowning must
be the kindest way to die...but as I paddled on, my heartbeat boomed like a dull motor in my ears, I
am, I am, I am (Plath 157 158). It

The Negative Effects Of Advertising And Its Effects On...
Advertising has a large impact on today s youth. This impact is largely created through use of
commercials on television. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention published an article
which explains that food commercials are one of the major components of advertising and they
are leading to an increase in health and weight problems in children. In addition to this,
psychologists such as Sandra L. Calvert have discovered that commercials give children a distorted
sense of reality and can lead to personality conflicts. Parents and scientists alike have found that
advertisements also can cause self esteem issues in young people, and this is a major concern. In
conclusion, the negative effects of advertisingon children are alarming. Commercials advertising
food are everywhere, and they are causing problems in children s eating habits. An article published
by the National Center for Biotechnology Information stated that food marketingtowards children
promotes mostly foods that are nutrient poor and contain lots of calories. The food being
advertised on tv is not good for children, but due to their vulnerability, they want it. Often times,
they get what they want, so kids are being fed very low quality food. A young childs body needs
nutrients in order to grow and cannot handle extreme amounts of calories. However, they food they
want goes against these principles and can cause health problems later on. According to a
healthcare clinic, Mayo Clinic, a

  • 2. Who Remedios Varo Is By Inga Muscio Throughout the art history, women have been involved in making art, whether as creators and innovators of new forms of artistic expression, patrons, collectors, sources of inspiration, or significant contributors as art historians and critics. Women have been and continue to be integral to the institution of art, but despite being engaged with the art world in every way, many women artistshave found opposition in the traditional narrative of art history. They have faced challenges due to genderbiases, from finding difficulty in training to selling their work and gaining recognition. In Who Remedios Varo Is , Inga Muscio argued this issue by suggesting that Remedios Varo, one of the top 19th century surrealist painters in the art history, did not... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But nowadays, women has become more powerful and even gradually take men s place in the art world and gain more achievements for themselves. What have been changed throughout many years of art history? Throughout the length of this essay, I will explore this problem by giving the brief view about gender bias and the way it affects women artists in the art world from the past, then mainly discuss about how women has overcome gender bias, in order to be succeeded in art world nowadays. Gender bias is known as the inclination towards or the prejudice against one gender, which are women in art world in this circumstance. This is an unequal treatment in employment opportunity, such as privileges or benefits (Oxford dictionary). It is also known as women discrimination. According to Inga Muscio, Remedios Varo did not receive the recognition she deserved because of the male social system. The white, male portion gave them the authority to present art as an artist but not women. Women did not have a right and had been excluded from the process of creating art (202). So, what had happened in the 19th century, which prevented Muscio from gaining her recognition ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Leo Tolstoy s Colonel Sarty Snopes For my dinner party, I am going to invite William Faulkner, Victor Hugo, Leo Tolstoy, and the character Colonel Sarty Snopes. I have chosen these guests because of their connection with revolution. Leo Tolstoy writes about the revolution one takes at the scariest moment of one s life, death. According to The Norton Anthology of Western Literature, What, Tolstoy asks us, is the relationship between abstract, universal truths and our intensely felt personal experience? (Puchner et al. 1440; 4) Faulkner writes about, the clash of generations and ways of life, racial and family tragedies, and in almost archetypal terms, the opposition of good and evil (Puchner et al. 1992; 3). Hugo explores not only the French Revolution but also the revolution... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This vision was of a liberation in this life from the tyranny of time and the terror of death. I want to know if Tolstoy believed his life to be the same as Ivan. According to his answer, I would then ask, If not, what questions do you think you will ask yourself, if any? I would ask him the questions because I want to know if he believes people ask the same questions when they are dying, or does it depend on how they have lived their lives. Does Tolstoy think the same as Hudspith when it comes to his views of death: Time, then, may be seen as a key element in Tolstoy s view of immortality; this has implications, as we shall see, for characters perceptions of time in his novels, their attitudes to their past, their present, their future and inevitable death? I would then ask him if he even thought he would influence someone as religiously influential as Gandhi (Puchner et al. 1439; 1). I just find it amazing that he inspired someone who has inspired millions. I would then ask what he thinks of the current violence in the world i.e. police brutality of racial groups and our current problems. I would ask Faulkner, Why did you criticize Southern hypocrisy and culture? I think by getting the answer to this would allow me to better understand how Faulkner writes and why. I would then ask him why he made up a whole new place, Yoknoupatawpha County (Puchner et al. 1994; 3), instead of using Oxford as his setting. This will answer the question, did he do it to not hurt the people of Oxford, or did he do it to disconnect from the events happening in the story? I would ask Faulkner about a ... • 4. Figurative Language In Mirrors By Justin Timberlake The song Mirrors by Justin Timberlake has a lot of figurative language I will prove a couple cases where that is true. Mirrors by Justin Timberlake has a lot of simile. A simile is a figure of speech involving the comparison of one thing with another thing of a different kind. It is used to make a description more empathic or vivid. The quote it s like you re my mirror from the song is a simile you know for a fact that it is a simile because a person cannot be a mirror. So Justin Timberlake is comparing a mirror to a person. A mirror and a person are nothing alike so you can automatically see that it is a direct comparison. This song also has a lot of symbolism. He was a Catholic Priest and was known as the Doctor of the Church . He was thought to be the church s best out of all its philosophers and theologians. Pope Benedict XV stated that this Order had obtained a new light when the church had declared the teachings of Saint Thomas, with the special praises of the Pope, to be the master and patron of the Catholic schools. There is nothing on this earth more to be prized than true friendship This quote could inspire Aquinas College students to get to know more people in their community and to get along with everyone. It could also inspire students to be more aware of the environment and elderly in the community, like Saint Thomas Aquinasdid. This is what Jesus was trying to teach us too, as it is stated in the bible many times. This is My commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends. (John 15:12 13) My House Patron is Edmund Ignatius Rice. My house values are Courage and Compassion. Edmund Rice used these values to help others that were less fortunate and to make people more aware of big issues, like the lack of education most children had in those times. Andrew Wilson The suitability of the use of animal models and SiRNA Technologies in autosomal dominantly inherited neurodegenerative disease Dr P Martin Biomedical Science Abstract: The treatment of dominantly inherited neurodegenerative disease has been not feasible until recent discovers of gene therapy. Discovers such as short interfering RNA (siRNA) which cause gene silencing due to the molecule forming a complex with messenger RNA (mRNA), resulting in the degradation of mRNA through pathways in the cell. The siRNA properties shows the potential in the treatment of such diseases. However the prevalence of such diseases is in areas where there are small community resulting in interbreeding, for example Huntington s disease (HD) and Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS); are prime examples of such incidents. This class of diseases causes the apoptosis of neurons and surrounding cells. The outcome for the sufferers has often been death. However there is promising developments in gene therapy, including SiRNA therapy in the treatment of these diseases. Small Interfering RNA (SiRNA) was discovered by Andrew Fire and Craig Mello, receiving the Nobel Prize in 2006 for their work. (Kaur et al, 2012) Typically SiRNA are between 21 and 23 RNA nucleotides in length. SiRNA has the ability to cause the inactivity of a genes expression in somatic mammalian cells; has proven to be an exceptional tool for researchers for the control of disease causing genes and theoretical treatments of inherited diseases in the future. However siRNA can only be used once the target mRNA sequence is known. (Sioud, 2004) However due to the Human Genome Project, a large portion of the target genes have been sequenced allowing SiRNA to become more practical. The siRNA molecule is the product of the RNA interference(RNAi) pathway. The starting molecule in the pathway is a long triggering double stranded RNA (dsRNA). The dsRNA is formed from either an RNAi molecule inserted into the cell or a siRNA which complexes with a specific strand of messenger RNA ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Why Advertising Alcohol Is Destroying Public Well-Being Essay Brenna Clarine Mrs. Vanwormer C.P. Reading Writing 6 May 2016 Why Advertising Alcohol Is Destroying Public Well Being When I was nine years old, I remember seeing the most delectable, mouthwatering commercial on television. It was for beer. Growing up in a family that did not drink, I never thought beer could look so appetizing. The beverage was everywhere I looked except for in my own fridge. Not only adults, but kids and teens everywhere are being bombarded with alcohol advertisements. Many of these youths choose to succumb to these ads and end up with destructive drinking habits. Not only is alcohol damaging to youth but also to adults. According to a U.S. study, adults were found to put themselves at severe risk of harm after having more than four drinks in one session (Medew). This number can change depending on the gender, size, athleticism, and other factors of the consumer. Although some may say that alcohol is not too damaging if drunk responsibly, the fact that alcohol is a direct route to damaging organs like the liver, heart, and pancreas and harming the brain is a red flag (NIHSeniorHealth). To whatever extent, alcohol weakens the brain s control over movement, speech, memory, and especially judgement, which often leads to impulsive behavior and other dangerous activities (NIHSeniorHealth). There are plenty of harmful side effects of drinking, so the obvious solution to preserving the nation s well being is to not encourage it. One quote by a Seattle ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The form of barbaric violent masculinity alex portrays is just that, barbaric and violent to men and women today. However a Clockwork orangealmost inspires some to adopt this toxic masculinity. Anthony Burgesstries to raise awareness for a reality he unknowingly inaugurates. I cannot speak for the 1960 s or 1970 s when the book and movie were released, but in 2018 toxic masculinity is neither common nor promoted in society. Rhetoric can be easily explained as the ways in which signs influence people. As history goes on we see the rhetoric changes over time. Rhetoric has been studied for a countless number of years. The beginnings of rhetoric starts off in the roots of the Western World with the Greeks. Political rhetoric can date back to the days of the Greeks and the Romans. The Roman Republic relief on writing and letters to produce legislation for it s citizens. The printing press aloud for mass production of political news. The radio made political stories more intimate especially for the listeners at home. Television gave viewers an image of politics in action. Finally the internet brought the world together and made more aware of international news. Rhetoric has always been an essential to political communication for hundreds of years. • 10. Analysis Of Tim O Brien s The Things They Carried The Silent Killer: An Analysis of Imagination Evolving into a Distraction in Tim O Brien s The Things They Carried In Tim O Brien s The Things They Carried , O Brien created several allusions that each character endured during the Vietnam War. Throughout the story were vast representations of the things the soldiers carried both mentally and physically. The things they carried symbolized their individual roles internally and externally. In addition to the symbolism, imagination was a focal theme that stood out amongst the characters. This particular theme played a role as the silent killer amongst Lt. Cross and the platoon both individually and collectively as a group. The theme of imagination created an in depth look of how the war was perceived through each character which helped emphasize their thoughts from an emotional standpoint of being young men out at war. Imagination hindered the platoon which clouded their judgment and decision making. Instead of remaining focused their wandering mind lacked what was necessary, assessing the task at hand. In some respects, though not many, the waiting was worse than the tunnel itself. Imagination was a killer. (O Brien 619) In relation to the quote imagination was a killer , this metaphor represents how the soldiers made situations like being in the tunnel mentally challenging for them. Paranoia quickly consumed their thoughts and emotions before partaking in the actual mission. The men ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(Evolution of the Household) Determine whether each of the following would increase or decrease the opportunity costs for Mothers who choose not to work outside the home. Explain your answers. a.Higher levels of education for women b.Higher unemployment rates for women c.Higher average pay levels for women d.Lower demand for labor in industries that traditionally employ large numbers of women Higher levels of education for women would increase the opportunity cost for women chosing to work outside the home. The opportunity cost rises because as a women s education level increases, so does the available positions the woman is qualified for, hence a higher level of income. This means a woman chosing not to work outside the home is forgoing the opportunity for higher education for women to benefit her and her potential to earn higher wages. ... Whereas, women chosing not to work outside the home relinquish the higher earnings. Lower demand for labor in industries that traditionally employ large numbers of women would mean fewer positions available for women choosing to work outside the home, causing the opportunity costs to fall. • 12. American Exceptionalism As John Winthrop once described what would become the United States as a city upon a hill, American Exceptionalism was born on enlightenment principles of political liberty and equality. This political foundation of liberty and equality for the United States in the new world was founded on the idea of natural, God given rights, and these enlightenment principles seen the Declaration of Independence became the core of American political thought would survive and evolve through nineteenth century Hegelism culminating in the American Civil War. The most famous of Enlightenment thinkers was an Englishmen by the name of John Locke, the father of liberalism. In his work, Second Treatise Concerning Civil Government, Locke famously stated that Reason, which is the law, teaches all mankind who will but consult it...no one ought to harm another in his life, health, liberty, or possessions; for men being all the workmanship of one omnipotent and infinitely wise Maker. This was summarized down to Life, Liberty, and Property, where no man can or should be derived of his personal freedoms and that all men are equal under God. While these ideas did not take hold in in Europe until the French Revolution in 1789, they did take root in the English colonies in America for their founding in 1776. When the thirteen colonies voted to break away from the United Kingdom, they had Thomas Jefferson write the declaration of independence, and the main inspiration for this was John Locke. The most ... In its simplest terms, a plumb bob is a string pulled taut by a weight attached to the bottom of it. Early plumb bobs were weighed down with stone. When being used for construction, the plumb bob is used to find the perpendicular: a straight line at a 90 degree angle to a given line or plane. To get the plumb line, end result, the plumb bob must hang freely, not touching any surface behind or below it. When the weight stops swinging, gravity pulls the weight to the center of the earth, leaving it directly under the point above it, resulting in a straight line. The perpendicular, ... A study by Pew Research Center concluded that 62 percent of U.S. adults obtain their new on social media. Incumbents can reach every audience, young, middle aged, the elder as well as those who come from different backgrounds. Ever wondered where incumbents get the money from to constantly send flyers to your house or the ones that get put in your windshield or doorknob? We witness and experience this all the time during election time. They have franking privilege. Franking privilege is when lawmakers send certain mails to their voters without payments of postage. However, the only people that are allowed this privilege are members of Congress and the Vice President. The sitting president does not. Incumbents also have access to a lot of resources once they ve established a strong support system. For example, voter catalogs and contact information. The catalog consists of all parties who are registered to vote, the party they favor, telephone number and district. It is vital and big deal for candidates to have this information because they can contact and pursue those to vote for them. Not everyone incumbent or candidate is fortunate to acquire this information. Finally, amongst all the other advantages, incumbents have the advantage of patronage and casework. ... Bruce Dawe was an Australian Poet born in Victoria, 1930 and is considered one of the most influential Australian poets of all time. Two of his poems, Enter With Out So Much As Knocking (EWOSMAK) and Drifters convey two different Australian voices and images but are brought together through the idea of life as a cycle. EWOSMAK focuses on life s frustrations and annoyances in modern Australian society and Drifters focuses on nature echoing the status of a family who lived through the Great Depression, a time when families would move often in seek of work and hopes of income. Bruce Dawe uses his poems to convey his own Australian identity and how he relates to the society of 1950 60s Australia. P1 EWOSMAK A major theme portrayed through EWOSMAK is that life is full of annoyance and frustrations. This is displayed in the final stanza through lighting Parking tickets , Bobby Dazzlers , taximeters and the repetition of no to reinforce the annoyances of life making death seem preferable. • 16. The New Greatest Generation By Joel Steins In Joel Steins article The New Greatest Generation he gives his opinion on the millennial generation. The ones that are born between the years of 1980s and 2000s are considered millennials. Stein believes that the millennial generation is lazy. An example of Stein believing millennials are lazy would be when he mentions how we would rather be an assistant than an actual CEO of a company. I believe that statement has something to do with millennials being lazy because we would rather take the easy way out such as being the assistant than working towards being some bigger and better. Another example in his article would have to be how he mentions technology. I agree technology plays a major role of the millennials being lazy because it s addicting, and it makes them feel as if they don t have to do anything because everything is on the internet. Stein also talks about parents and how they re more of a friend than a parent which could also play a part in millennials being lazy. The previous generations wasn t lazy as the millennials are today because our generation has more technology use than they had so they didn t have no choice but to get out and work for their families. The previous generations didn t have any distractions that will make them lose focus such as becoming a leader in the workforce instead of being lazy and okay with being an assistant to someone. Written during the 1940 s Shapiro has been known for writing about simplistic things yet with grave detail. In Auto Wreck Shapiro uses similes and metaphors to describe a surreal feeling of an automobile wreck. He has determined that everyday citizens have become too detached from the everyday violence caused by automobiles. Why or why not? After doing my observations, I still want to become a teacher. Going into this class, initially I was hesitant and unsure if I wanted to pursue teaching, but after one full day of observing a kindergarten class I am sure this is what I want to do with my life. Seeing the children so excited to learn really made me happy, and I want to be able to encourage that excitement in children myself. I think teaching is a very important job, and thought it is a little scary how much responsibility the career is, I think I am up to the task. I would love to be able to know I am helping the world by teaching children and giving them knowledge they can use in life, and encouraging them to learn academics and about the real world so they can grow up and be successful adults and citizens. I really love working with children, and I think I would enjoy teaching them what they need to know. 2. Do you still want to teach the grade you originally chose from the beginning of the semester? Explain. If you did not have a chosen grade, do you have a better idea? Explain. I still definitely want to teach elementary school, preferably kindergarten, 1st, or 2nd grade. I was also slightly considering high school (my sister teaches high school and keeps trying to convince me to teach high school as well), but after observing a high school class, I know I for sure want to stick with elementary school. I also prefer to be with one set of kids all day, rather than 5 or more sets of kids for an hour every day. I think it would be difficult for me to get used to having too many sets of kids, so one set would be the best for me, and I think I could be more helpful to the children if I was only with one set of kids all day long. The speaker explains how to maintain a sense of freedom through sexuality, which was one of the ways that black southerners maintained their freedom. The last lines of the poem which is in stanza five states, I am a tornado child. When the spirit takes my head, I hurtle into the vacuum of white sheets billowing and paint a swirl of color, treaked with my many songs (23 26). The speaker becomes creative by adding the use of colors to describe the tone and Rosalie s feeling throughout the poem. The speaker uses white to describe Rosalie life as a blank canvas and the swirl of color shows how she is open to various cultures, which are greatly influenced by Dawes because he is exposed to numerous cultures. This theme is also prominent in Spenser s Sonnet 67 . As the narrator describes his love life he says, Seeing the game from him escaped away (Spenser, 2) showing how unobtainable this woman truly is. Later on the speaker supports the theme again, by saying So, after long pursuit and vain assay (Spenser, 5). On the speaker s journey, he has attempted to get his girl, but each time it never works. These two poems are quite similar as they both have the same theme. Even though they seem to almost be the same poem, there is one big difference within the poems. The two poems have a very different tone, with Wyatt s being much more clingy and stubborn, while Spenser s being more contemplative and realistic. In Whoso List to Hunt the narrator is much clingier: Fainting I follow (Wyatt, 7). Even though this woman will never take him in, he still pushes on and refuses to let go. Similarly, he supports this by saying, Yet by no means my wearied mind/Draw from the deer (Wyatt, 5 6). The narrator has obviously been trying to court her for awhile and even though ... As the influence of nuclear technology expanded, nations implemented policies to address its usage. The Atoms for Peace program contributed significantly to the conception of these policies. This program s inception represented a turning point in international cooperation. From Atoms for Peace arose the International Atomic Energy Agency(IAEA), the spread of nuclear energy, the technology s risky dual use, and the rise of conflicts over Iran s highly controversial nuclear program. The effects of the Atoms for Peace program play roles even in international affairs of the present. Allowing a fundamental reversal in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The IAEA was established as a transnational nuclear management system that would regulate the secure distribution of nuclear materials (Lavoy). This United Nations affiliated agency has evolved into an organization with defined responsibilities and powers to address this end while continuing to maintain its original objective of solidifying worldwide collaboration. Today the IAEA primarily promotes nuclear technologies as valuable energy opportunities that must be used properly and, most importantly, safely. The agency delineates nuclear safety standards in order to shield both humans and the environment from the dangers of nuclear energy exploitation. The IAEA ensures that states can access nuclear energy assistance. Simultaneously, it inspects various nuclear programs to ensure that all nations fulfill their promise of peace (Division). In this way the creation of the IAEA represents major progress toward nonviolent nuclear usage. Analysis Of The Five-Forty-Eight The Five Forty Eight The Five Forty Eight by John Cheever is a short story about a woman, Miss Dent, whom gets her revenge on a man, Mr. Blake, who has no morals that slept, fires, and ignores her. In The Five Forty Eight by John Cheever the story engages me by the suspenseful exposition, the anticipation of the climax, and the clever resolution. The suspenseful exposition engages me to read more to see the outcome of the story. Then he wondered if she was following him (Cheever 2). Starting from the very beginning the exposition is suspenseful of the terrified, and confused man wondering if the woman is following him or not. As reading that quote I want more insight on what would make this woman want to follow him. Does she want to harm him? Is she just wanting to talk to him? Who is she? She might be meaning to do harm she might be meaning to kill him (Cheever 2). From thinking the woman is following him to wondering if she is meaning to do him harm escalated the suspense in the exposition. Asking myself many questions as to why Mr. Blake would think that she wants to harm him, and why would she want to harm him? He could run although he was afraid that if he did run, it might precipitate the violence he now felt sure she had planned (Cheever 4). This quote told me that he was sure that she was trying to harm him. Deciding if Mr. Blake should run told me he figured out Miss Dent was dangerous and that he needed a plan of escape. This so far seems to be the best solution, however ethical and moral dilemmas still rest in the hands of our lawmakers today. The next issue facing internet gambling is taxes. This seems to be the government s biggest issue. This is because of the billions of dollars we mentioned for profit by these online sites, government can gain significant amount of money from it. The legalization of Internet gambling may cause states to lose some revenue generated from legalized gambling operations because many gamblers would spend their money online (Lassani, 1998). Moreover, states lose revenue by not being able to tax gamblers who win over the Internet. Gamblers who win over the Internet have an incentive not to pay taxes on their winnings because the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) lacks the resources to track online gamblers (Lassani, 1998). The likelihood of addiction to Internet gambling among both children and adults is an extremely important concern. In relation to addiction, children are more likely to become addicted to something new than adults (Smith, 2004). For example, the video game like nature of virtual casinos, labeled the crack cocaine of gambling, could make online gambling a temptation difficult to resist. Furthermore, the fact that the Internet gambler need not leave the comfort and privacy of his or her home could mean that an individual might become easily addicted. This is the worst ... • 50. Blood On The Forge Analysis Exploitation of African Americans Seen in Southern and Northern Environments as Accurately Depicted in Attaway s Blood on the Forge William Attaway s novel, Blood on the Forge, displays a family torn apart as a product of systematic exploitation. In the compelling narrative, the Moss brothers, Big Mat, Chinatown, and Melody, migrate to the north in motivation of Big Mat committing the murder of his riding boss. As they begin to adjust, their perception of the north s assumed and rumored opportunities quickly conforms to the reality of what is actually offered. Through plot lines of the very act of migrating, acclimating to regenerated labor and norms, and, finally, the dissolution of the brothers identities and close family connection, it is observed that their exodus to the north is just as empty of benefits as the south. Attaway accomplishes depicting an accurate account of the contrasting exploitation that occurred in both the north and the south by portraying the Moss brothers demise as a result of their migration from a systematic, rural setting to an industrial, diminishing, and, ultimately, unfamiliar environment along with how the two regions parallel in similarities concerning economical and social consequences, permanently affecting the brothers altogether mentally and physically. Where there was great potential for a rebirth of opportunity and success, the result was a contrasting reality of misery and permanent damage. Attaway subtlety foreshadows the mandatory reformation, hard labor, and levels of exploitation that were to come in the depiction of how the Moss brothers were transported to the north. They were bunched up like hogs headed for market, heading into the unknown (Attaway 38). Attaway ties a few key moments of historical allusion in the description of this particular mode of transportation. To put in context, when Africans were relocated over to America for the purpose of serving as slaves, the transportation was quite similar. It was dark and crowded, just as Attaway describes this scene. Warm urine began to flow as they had no choice but to relieve themselves just as the Africans had no other option but to alleviate their bladders (Attaway 38). The stark imagery of the ... Public Choice Theory And Public Choice Theory Public choice or public choice theory means the use of economic tools to deal with traditional problems of political science, it also tries to explain how public decision are made. It is directed towards the study of politics based on the economic principles. The public choice theory is a strong variant of the rational choice theory. The theory is concerned with the provision of so called public goods, goods that are delivered by government rather than the market, because, as with air, their benefit cannot be withheld from individuals who choose not to contribute to their provision. What lies at the heart of public choice theoryis the self interest maximization theory. Public choice works hand in glove with economics. Economics is the study of individual presences and the interaction of those preferences with firms in market settings. As South Africa keeps on endeavouring toward protected change, it appears to be suitable to inspect regularizing open decision hypothesis for bits of knowledge that may be pertinent toward the South African established process. • 52. Depression And Depression In The Bell Jar By Sylvia Plath Depression is like drowning in a pool of water and there is absolutely no escape from it. In The Bell Jar, written by Sylvia Plath, the main character, Esther Greenwood goes through the awful troubling depths of depression. The Bell Jar goes back in time beginning in the summer of 1953 and follows the story of Esther Greenwood. Esther should be having the time of her life having won an internship in New York City, but the unfortunate truth is that she is slowly falling further into a deep depression. Sylvia Plath strongly incorporates metaphors, internal conflict, and symbolism to reveal the theme that despite the hardships and awful drowning thoughts that plague people s mind, life does get better, if only people don t lose hope. To begin with, Sylvia Plath successfully incorporates internal conflict to reveal that Esther doesn t know what to do with herself after not getting accepted into the writing program of her dreams, which is also when she starts falling into her deep depression. According to author Kirsty Grocott, the illness is [Esther s] reality and everything outside [Esther s] own head feels flimsy and unreal (Grocott, Sylvia Plath s Bell Jar Still Haunts Me ). Esther feels unsure of what she wants to do with her life. Esther saw her life as if it was a fig tree. She saw one fig as a husband and a happy home and children, and another fig was a famous poet and another fig was a brilliant professor (Plath Sylvia 77). Esther seems paralyzed on what fig she wants to choose. It appears as if she wants all of them, but she realizes that if she only chooses one she can t have the rest.
