Abstract
Baroque was born in Italy, and later adopted in France, Germany, Netherlands, and Spain. The
word baroque was first applied to the art of period from the late 1500s to the late 1700s, by critics
in the late nineteen century. Baroque covers a wide range of styles and artists. In painting and
sculpture we recognize three main forms of Baroque:
Baroque that was primarily associated with the religious tensions within Western Christianity:
division on Roman Catholicism and Protestantism. In response to the Protestant Reformation of the
early sixteen century, the Roman Catholic Church had embarked in the 1550s ... Show more content

Instead the wealth father welcomes his son back into the home. The aged artist s power of realism
is not diminished, but increased by psychological insight and spiritual awareness. Expressive
lighting and colouring and the magic suggestiveness of his technique, together with a selective
simplicity of setting, help us to feel the full impact of the event. (Rembrandt s Prodigal Son, 2012).
Just like Caravaggio s art, Rembrandt s art had a biblical perspective with their art, that is displayed

Premarital Cohabitation
I.) Fundamental Issues and Historical Applications A. Toward a Greater Understanding of the
Cohabitation Effect: Premarital Cohabitation and Marital Communication. 1. Issue number 6. What
is the most appropriate level of analysis for psychology? Position A: Molecular. Despite significant
theories giving a relationship to premarital cohabitationand the likelihood of divorce, we have yet to
definitively answer the underlying question of why the relationship exists. This study focuses not
on the theories themselves, but on a function of marital life. Marital communication is a large part
of marital development. If the breakdown of communication is significantly lower for couples that

The authors use a perspective of structuralism in their analysis of premarital education attendance.
Looking at couples individually in determining whether they are high risk for relationship problems
is accomplished by breaking down the characteristics of the individuals and assessing their behavior

across Cohorts? 1. Issue number 2. What is the most appropriate methodological strategy for
psychology? Position B: Theory. The methodology strategy includes a collection of theories,
concepts or ideas. The selection perspective and the experience of cohabitation perspective were
both used in the analysis and conclusions of this study. The changing of the relationship of
premarital cohabitation and marital dysfunction may have changed over time. These theories
provide potential explanation for results in this study. 2. The authors of this study hold a
perspective of structuralism. While analyzing the selection perspective the component
characteristics are relevant in the study of the perspective as a whole. In other words, the
characteristics of the individual make up the perspective. In the experience of cohabitation
perspective the concept of living together before marriage is said to breakdown the attitudes once
held before cohabitation, therefore increasing the probability of divorce. The analysis of the results

AOL was able to beat out Prodigy and CompuServe because of the amount of marketing that
AOL used to gain customers. AOL was famous for blanketing college campuses, book stores and
random people by buying mailing list shipping out free CD s that gave customer a free trial

of the unprecedented amount of CD s they gave to potential customers via the mail, as well as

PEST ANALYSIS ON TARGET CANADA
BY
GRACE NWACHUKWU.
October, 2014
Business News Daily, 2013 explained PEST Analysis (Political, Economic, Social and
Technological Analysis) as how those external factors can affect a business s activities and
performance...
The article further explained that aside the fact that some organizations already have factors
affecting their performance, there are some factors outside the organization that can determine the
positive result of business. For those organizations to determine how those factors outside the
organization can be of positive impact, they decide to conduct a PEST Analysis. In this research, I
would be using TARGET CANADA as a case study on PEST Analysis.
ABOUT TARGET CANADA.
Target Canada. Co is the Canadian subsidiary of United States based discount department store
chain Target Corporation which was formed in 2011 to oversee the company s Canadian
operations. Target Canada s main rival in the Discount store is Walmart, while there is also
competition with supermarket chains such as Loblaws, Metro and Sobeys (despite having
agreement with Sobeys) and other retailers such as Sears Canada, Canadian Tire, Shoppers Drug
Mart and Rexall. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Most Important Event Of Church History
As I write this paper, on what, in my opinion, is The Most Important Event in Church History
Between 6 B.C. and 1517, I have to first consider a question. What determines if something is
important? There are a few things in my opinion that qualify an event as important. Of course, like
beauty, importance is relative to the eye of the beholder. Here is how I behold what qualifies an
event s importance. First, the event should be something that is relatable and affects a lot of people.
Next, it ought to be something that is unique or dramatic. The event should also have a human
interest factor. Lastly, it should evoke change that will benefit mankind. Now having established the
criteria that I would use to define an event s importance, I deem the most important event to be the
crucifixion/death and resurrection of Jesus, our Lord and Savior in the year 30 A.D. What makes
Jesus crucifixion and resurrection relatable and affects lots of people? The fact that He was
willing to sacrifice His life for man s sake fulfills this requirement. Because Jesus both died and rose
again, we too through His example, can die to a life of sin in the world, and be resurrected to a
new life of freedom in Jesus. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says this to us, Therefore if any man be in Christ,
he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new (ESV). In this
scripture, Paul shows both, how what Jesus did relates to people, and how it affects everyone

Betrayed By Milan Kundera Analysis
In his excerpt from Testaments Betrayed, Milan Kundera claims that for one to be truly free,
one must have the right to privacy. He says that the curtain must remain closed between private
and public and that those curtain rippers are criminals. However, although I believe that privacy
must be respected and protected, there are times when the invasion of privacy may be necessary
if a person s life or well being is in immediate danger. Kundera claims that for a man to be free;
that the curtain separating these two worlds is not to be tampered with... I agree with this part of
his argument; privacy is something that has to be revered and enforced, as it is every man s right to
have that freedom. My stance on this is supported by the U.S Constitution.... Show more content on

If a parent suspects that his or her child is suffering from depression or is involved in hazardous
activity like drugs, alcohol, or a bad relationship, I believe should be allowed to violate the child
s privacy. By simply looking through the kid s phone or computer, a parent can find an
underlying problem that the child would have otherwise not have told them. A parent must
protect their child from anything that could harm them, even if it s protecting the children from
themselves, and the only way to do this (if the child refuses to confide) is to deliberately invade
their privacy. As it happens, this violation of a child s privacy also occurs in a medical
environment. If a psychologist s patient is exhibiting either suicidal tendencies or is under danger
of any form of abuse, the doctor is required by law to make it known to either authorities or the
parental guardians that their child is in danger. These actions are a direct infringement of a person s
freedom that Kundera will readily disagree with, but if the curtain that keeps privacy undisclosed
remains tightly shut, these cases may never be uncovered and these lives might not be

Ir A Country With A Rich History
Iran is a country with a rich history that stretches back to the formation of the Persian Empire in
550 BC. It is important to discuss the history of Iran when viewing its current state of politics
because over this vast period of time there was a distinct set of rule that had just ended less than
forty years ago. From 550 BC to 1979, Iran(formerly known as Persia, changed names in 1935)
had been ruled by emperors, kings and shahs (Persian for king of kings ), until the Iranian
Revolution of 1979 when the last shah, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, was overthrown. An important
event that occurred under the leadership of shahs, occurred in 1501 under the leadership of the
Safavid dynasty, when Iran adopted Shia Islam as their official religion. This event was important
in many ways as it shaped the current political landscape of Iran and has been an increasingly
debated topic in comparative politics. After the overthrow of the shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi,
the person appointed as new leader of Iran was Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini. Khomeini had
garnered widespread popularity when he spoke against the leadership of Pahlavi and was exiled
from the country to Iraq, and later Paris. While in Iraq, Khomeini wrote the book, Islamic
Government: The Governance of the Jurist. In his book, Khomeini introduced the idea of Velayat a
faqih which essentially meant that the people should be ruled by clerical leader. He also believed
that the state should be ruled under Sharia which translates

United States Involvement in Organized Conspiracy
United States Involvement in Organized Conspiracy
Was the war in Iraq a means to improve national security or a conspiracy to seek personal
satisfaction? On March 19, 2003 a war was waged under public scrutiny, to destroy the Baathist
regime headed by the Iraqi leader, Saddam Hussein. This pivotal point in United States history
marked the beginning of public concern about political corruption within our government as a
means to convey personal satisfaction.
National security became the ground breaking concern in the United States after the tragic events
unfolded on September 11, 2001. Many questions were brought to the attention of the public eye,

With presidential insight overlooking Iraq s government with a fine tooth comb, the Bush
Administration decided to turn to public support as a means to increase the awareness in Iraq.
This attention was based off the defiance amongst Iraq, and the United Nation (UN) ability to
provide full access inside the country of Iraq. As public concern grew on the topic of Iraq, so did
the presidential tone and manner when comparing Iraq to the central front in the War on Terror.
This began a political push from leaders in and outside the U.S. to implement harsher penalties on
Iraq or any country that didn t obey UN weapons inspections (resolution 1441). The resolution 1441
stated that if UN inspection was ever detoured from leaders in the country would be subjected to
war. Another country siding with the Bush administration to dissimulate and destroy the Baathist
regime in Iraq was Britain and its Prime Minister Tony Blair.
After the invasion of Iraq occurred, documents that were obtained from Mr. Blair s office that
depicted President Bush already mind set on invading Iraq. Strictly emphasizing that no matter
resolution 1441 was compiled by the Iraqi regime or not. Even to go as far as to provoking war
with Iraq whether WMD was found or not during the UN inspections. Other CIA information
informed the U.S. people that 935 statements on Iraq s potential threat to national security were
falsely stated by the Bush Administration.

Maintainability refers to the ability to keep the system functional, that is, before, during as well as

Maintainability helps in limiting duplicate features that may be found in the system. UMUC

Olaudah Equiano s The Atlantic Slave Trade
The Atlantic slave trade, from its beginnings in the 1500 s to its end in the 1800 s was in itself the
largest forced migration in human history. Slavery was not a new concept to the Atlantic coastal
regions of Africa, but the Europeans were able to take hold of an age old tradition and blow it out
of proportion. Olaudah Equianos story is especially unique, given the wide array of worldviews he
came in contact with, as well as the continued evolution of his own worldview throughout all of his
experiences.
In the first chapter of Volume I, Equiano goes into amazing detail as to the customs and day to day
life of the way his home community functioned. This provides real insight into how African
communities functioned before significant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Equiano made these associations front and center, as to verify the point of Africans being on the
same intellectual level as the Jews. He even goes so far as to make the suggestion that his people
may be Jewish, by pointing out that the discrepancy in coloring between their races could simply
be explained by having lived in a tropical zone for so long. Equiano supports this by citing
research of Spaniards becoming as dark colored as the native Indians...
Relating the traditions and practices of his native practices to those of Christianity may at first
seem like an isolated incident, but throughout the book he continually tries to make a case for
the similarities between his people and the Europeans. By doing this, he validates the belief of
the abolitionists that Africans are worthy of being treated as if they were humanity, and not as if
they were livestock. He even furthers this belief by enabling the reader to emotionally connect
with a wide array of Africans throughout the story. Such a strategy results in the (probably
European) reader being able to compare the way Europeans and Africans exist on an apples to
apples level. This may seem like a very basic thing to be able to do, but the reader of the time of
publication would have a much harder time as opposed to a modern reader.

Globalizing and Localizing Manufacturing
Made by TOYOTA Aiming for Global Quality Assurance
Since 1957, when the Crown was first exported to the United States, Toyota has expanded the scope
of automobile sales across the entire globe. For over fifty years, Toyota vehicles have found their
way to over 170 countries and regions throughout the world. As their exports have continued to
develop so has the localization of their production bases, in line with a policy of producing
vehicles where the demand exists . Now there are 51 bases in 26 different countries and regions.
In addition, there are design and R D bases in nine locations overseas, showing that from
development and design to production, as well as sales and service, Toyota has now achieved
consistent globalization and localization.
Among the hurdles that this globalization of production has to overcome, the most important is
quality assurance, which requires that no matter where Toyota vehicles are made, they must have
the same high level of quality. Toyota doesn t put a label on vehicles which says Made in The USA
or Made in Japan , but instead opts for one label for all:

Erice Breaks Themes
Growing up means more responsibility and more expectations from people around you.
Nowadays the expectations we have to one another keeps getting higher. This means that a larger
group of people will be having a harder time living up to these expectations. For instance, more
children at school will be searching for a way to live up to the expectations. To do this they will
have to face challenges that might be too hard, for someone with lack of self confidence and
responsibilitythis will be a challenge with many failures.
In the short story, Ernie Breaks written by Genevieve Scott the main theme is also about expectation
and responsibility towards a child. We follow a girl that is troubling with responsibility and
cannot carry her expectations. The main character and narrator is the girl called Cara and is at age
ten, while the story takes place. Cara just passed fourth grade and the mother wants her and the

result of a conspiracy that sparks political debate even today. One of the more controversial events
occurred a relatively short time before Caesar s rule and when of the Roman Republic when
Senators were brutal in their methods of winning elections. The Roman election of 63 B.C.E. had
become the foundation for the conspiracy against a Roman senator Ciceroby another Roman senator
popularly known as Catiline. Ultimately, Catiline s plan had been unveiled and despite trying to

Catiline s dark past included the aspirations for being a ruler with his agenda inspired by his
criminal tendencies. His plan was simple, about the measures he adopted, he felt no solicitude; to
be the tyrant of his country by any means . His nature was later also pointed out by Cicero who
used this point against Catiline.
The elections of 63 B.C. would further Catiline s plot to overthrow the Roman Government. His
intentions were made clear when he spoke to his friends. When he met with them, he spoke of
their liberty and power in government. Such is the case when he mentions, for fine a few great
ones have got the power into their hands, they have had always Kings and Tetrarchs and

to them, to whom, if the administration had run in the true channel, we ought to have been a terror
. This shows Catiline s far reaching political aspirations and keen interest in running for public
offices of the republic. We notice that Catiline continues on his destructive path mentioning that
should the government be on the correct path, they would be a force to be reckoned with. Catiline

The Great Gatsby Cultural Influences
Throughout the past, writing has left an influential mark on literature and culture due to widespread
change happening in America during those times. The early twentieth century serves as an
excellent illustration of the theory that writers reflect the major cultural influences of their time
(Cultural Influences on American Literature in the Late Nineteenth Century). F. Scott Fitzgeraldwas
an outstanding author who greatly influenced Americans of his time through his phenomenal works

Post Colonialism Essay
Introduction Post colonialism is a period of time following colonialism, and postcolonial literature
is typically characterized by its opposition to the colonial. Postcolonial literature often targets on
race relations and the outcome of racism along with generally implies white and/or colonial
societies. Simon During, in his essay discussing the nature and boundaries of post colonialism,
argues for a more inclusive definition, calling it the need, in nations, or groups which have been
victims of imperialism to achieve an identity uncontaminated by universalist or Eurocentric
concepts or images. Works of literature that are defined as postcolonial often record racismor a
history of genocide including slavery, apartheid, and the mass extinction of people, such as the
Aborigines in Australia. Post colonialism includes a vast array of writers and subjects. In fact, the
very different geographical, historical, social, religious, and economic concerns of the different ex
colonies dictate a wide variety in the nature and subject of most postcolonial writings. In this regard
some women colonial writers sketch a relationship among post colonialism... Show more content on

Sexism is just the stress put together by ideological complexities of male dominance above their
female counterparts. Within direct correlation with the traditional literary canon, the site with the

scrutinized if they have a tendency to represent men in the negative light. Hence it is logical that
works written by women of color reference the female struggle versus sexism. After all, the
writers themselves have lived and witnessed these experiences. To begin a discussion of the

Why We Need An Urban County Government
Why We Need an Urban County Government
For too long this area has taken a back seat to the larger cities around us. We need to join the rest
of the progressive regions in this state and establish a new, more efficient form of government.
Pulaski County and the cities of Somerset, Science Hill, Ferguson, and Burnside need to merge
together and create an urban county government. This will help to consolidate duplicate services,
provide better representation for the citizens of Pulaski County, and strengthen the economy in this
region.
We live in a magnificent part of the state of Kentucky. We have picturesque landscapes, really
pleasant residents, and a magnificent lake that supports a huge part of our economy through tourism.

As a result, it is possible for the citizens to vote to implement this type of government. Therefore, in
April of 2013 the Somerset Pulaski County United group formed and began the process of having
feasibility studies done to see if the formation of an urban county government would be an
alternative that would serve our area well. According to the Commonwealth Journal, a newspaper in
Somerset, Kentucky, A group of about 60 community leaders, clustered as Somerset Pulaski County
United (SPCU), is embarking on a study to determine if a consolidated or united government in
Pulaski County would be more efficient and more responsive to the county s 63,000 residents.
(Mardis and Shmidheiser). This group, a cross section that well represents the residents of this
county, believes that the formation an urban county government is a great opportunity for all our
futures.
Unfortunately, the SPCU has faced much antagonism in this initial phase of work. Many current
government leaders are afraid of what changes might do to their positions of power. But these
same leaders are also the ones who create problems and allow current ones to continue. Having a
council of peers will give a voice everyone in the area, not just the few who reside in the

How Did Jane Goodall Influence Biology
Faith Wannarka Block: 3 Mr. Weide Jane Goodall Otherwise known as one of the most
influential women of biology, Jane Goodall has made a lasting effect on biology. Her work with
monkeys, chimps, and apes has brought a different light to the study of evolution. Through Jane
s life, she has completed many field studies, taught classes, given TED talks, as well written
numerous books. As a child, Jane was always interested in science and had influential teachers.
Born on April 3, 1934, in London England, Jane Goodall was born into a very active family. Jane

Hurricane Katrina Simulation
Hurricane Katrina was a devastating disaster that has affected many people in New Orleans as
well as the surrounding areas. It had a stunning death toll of 1300 people and damage over $100
billion ( Davlasheridze 94 ). The communication were taken down hours after Katrina because of
the unexpected fast winds and floods that broke down 3 million phone lines and 1,000 cellular
towers in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. ( Joch ). Because of the millions of phone lines that
were battered, contacting the government for help was difficult hours after hurricane Katrina. Not
only that, the people of New Orleans underestimated the power of Hurricane Katrina causing
many to be stranded with no food or water ( Narrator, The Storm ,PBS ). Before Hurricane
Katrina, a simulation called Hurricane Pam was created to prepare for a disaster like Katrina. It
was the perfect model of what happened in Katrina ( Maestri, The Storm ). The purpose of it
was to prepare the people (government) in what is needed during a real hurricane.
Unfortunately, Before they could finish the exercise, FEMA s funding for the simulation was
cut before it was completed causing the simulation to be canceled. The reason why Hurricane
Pam was unsuccessful because Medical care for hurricane victims was not yet finalized,
communication systems were not addressed at all, and key transportation decisions were left to
be determined ( Narrator, The Storm , PBS ). If the simulation were to be completed, the disaster
of Hurricane Katrina could ve been solved with a prepared plan to help many in New Orleans.
Over the years of Hurricane Katrina, FEMA faced many criticisms. Not only FEMA, but every
level of government was roundly criticized ( Howellq ). Back in 9/11, They acted fast and
accordingly to the disaster. During hurricane Katrina, they were slow and had false promises
that the locals of New Orleans believed ( Maestri, The Storm , PBS ). Many people asked FEMA
for resources and help, but that turned down because they did not ask the right way ( Hale The
Storm , PBS). During an interview with one of FEMA s secretaries, Michael Brown , had claimed
that FEMA could not help Louisiana because they didn t tell them what they

Why Leslie Van Houten deserves to walk free.
Picture this...You re nineteen years old with nowhere to call home, your mothers left you
traumatised and permanently scarred. You re alone in the big bad world. Fragile, vulnerable and
powerless. Does any teenager really have life s answers? Or are they aimlessly searching for them
from somewhere or someone else? Cast yourself back to when you were nineteen, if someone had
entered your life offering all the answers, don t tell me you would ve turned them away. Leslie Van

She thought he could give her the answers everyone so desperately seeks at that tender age. A year
after joining the Manson Family Van Houten was involved in the 1969 murders of Leno and
Rosemary LaBianca. Under Manson s orders Van Houten stabbed Rosemary approximately 16
times. She was found guilty of murder and is now serving life in prison. In September 2017 Van
Houten was granted parole. She now faces a one hundred and twenty day review period. At the end,
it will be decided whether or not she is fit for release. I believe that Leslie should walk free and be
allowed a second chance at life.

The Effects Of Norm Violation On The Perception Of Power
Investigation of the Effects of Norm Violation
On the Perception of Power Power governs our society. A powerful person is one that has
authority over others. This sense of authority relieves them of the restrictions a person of lesser
power might face, allowing them to make and break rules. The four studies conducted in Breaking
the Rules to Rise to Power: How Norm Violators Gain Power in the Eyes of Others by Gerben A.
Van Kleef, Astrid C. Homan, Catrin Finkenauer, Seval Gu М€ndemir and Eftychia Stamkou,

The study examined the response of 25 females and 15 men with a mean age of 19.53 on two
scales. The first scale was a 25 question questionnaire consisting of adjectives that described
social impressions of power and norm violation, which was then rated on a scale from 1 to 7
with 1 being definitely not and 7 being definitely. The second scale asked participants to indicate
the extent to which the power statements This person is influential ; . . . has a leadership position
; . . . is in charge of subordinates ; . . . enjoys considerable authority (Van Kleef et al., 2011),
applied to the person depicted in the scenario.
Results and Discussions Participants rated the actor that took the cup of coffee from the personnel
with a higher norm violation score than the actor that went to the bathroom. This indicated that they
recognized that the behavior of the actor that took the coffee cup was wrong. Despite that, the
participants rated that actor to be more powerful than the actor that went to the bathroom on both
scales. This gives the first evidence that violating the norm influences the perception of power (Van
Kleef et al., 2011).
Study 2: The Bookkeeper Study 2 employed a different type of norm violation to examine if the
affects show in study 1 would repeat. One hundred and sixty nine participants of unspecified age

The Hurt Locker Character Analysis

bomb squad during the Iraq War. When Sergeant JT Sanborn loses one of his men from to an
explosion, Sergeant First Class William James replaces the bomb defuser and joins Sanborn and
Specialist Owen Eldridge. Due to Sanborn s heavy ego and James reckless methods, tensions rise
and the men constantly quarrel until the three realize their similarities of being entrapped by war.
The film explores the idea of soldiers as heroes and even questions the validity of this concept;
various situations challenge James and his reactions do not always correspond with those of a

Bigelow operates this idea entirely; she begins by proving realistic heroes also benefit from
their own actions. Past films display heroes actions as only benefiting the lives of citizens as a
collective whole, but Bigelow does not believe in solely choosing between the happiness of the
people and the happiness of the hero. Instead, James endeavors serve his country and himself
personally. Additionally, Bigelow recognizes how heroes possess flaws and how this forms a
connection between heroism and humanity. James demonstrates his faults through his humane
reaction to a body bomb; instead of following common protocol and destroying the young boy s
corpse, he keeps the carcass intact and ultimately ends of killing another soldier due to an
explosion. This scene also validates how heroes must take risks that threaten the lives of others.
Audiences already understand how a typical American hero can jeopardize his own life, but the
modern American hero understands he cannot sacrifice himself alone; others might face risks as
well. The scene in which James and his squad oppose military orders during their final mission also
supports this characteristic. Because Bigelow portrays the character of James as a

In Ancient Egypt, stelas are either stone or wooden slabs used as a means of presenting a
monument, usually for funerary purposes. They were also used as markers between territories.
Stelas usually feature some sort of decoration and are carved in relief, either raised or sunken. Paint
also was incorporated in some of these stelas and often featured hieroglyphics detailing the scene. In
Egypt these stelas were primarily used as funerary ornaments, very much resembling tombstones.
Looking from the first dynasty on, stelas changed throughout the dynasties in Egypt including their

Historians suggest that these stelas might have been placed on the outside of funerary complex
while others suggest that they may have been used to roof the structure. Although many theories
exist, it is pretty much commonly agreed that these stelas did not exist within the tombs walls
during this time. Abydos becomes an important location during Ancient Egyptian history. The
end of the Old Kingdom saw the city of Abydos as the center for Osiris. We see Abydos
becoming the destination for pilgrimages and the site for annual festivities. Looking specifically
at the stelas at Abydos we see that they are smaller in size and lack the artistic preciseness we see
in later funerary complexes. The stelas at Abydos were set up in pairs though and do not feature
the rounded top that we identify with the first and second dynasties. These stelas depict the tomb
owner and are inscribed with their title and name. Looking at the funerary stela located in the
Metropolitan Museum of art dated between the first and fourth century is composed of limestone
and found at Abydos. Anubis is depicted as she presents the deceased to the enthroned Osiris
(MET). Also depicted is the mourning goddesses Isis and Nephthys, both very crudely executed
and are merely silhouetted forms with oversized heads. This exaggeration of form is suggested to

Social Harm
Explain how the notion of social harm is connected with ideas of social justice. Support your
answer with evidence from two study weeks in Block 2, including at least one chapter from Book 1.
This essay aims to explain social harm and its connections to social justice. The concept of social
harm is difficult to define, Social harm occurs when problems not only affect an individual but
for cause harm to society as a whole. World issues such as discrimination, racism and poverty are
classed as social harm, and are also easily linked to the concept of social justice.
Social justice refers to the distribution of wealth and resources and is a concept which has often
lead to mobilisation. Often, occurrences such as natural disasters whilst causing their own harm to
society highlight hidden social harm such as poverty and discrimination, it is once these underlying
issues have been highlighted that moblisation occurs and social justice becomes linked with social
harm.

rape and domestic violence cause harm to individuals, whereas psychological harm such as race,

Impact Of Tidal Energy On The Earth
Tides and currents have existed since before the dawn of man. While the rotation and gravitational
forces of the earth act to keep our ocean levels steady, that equilibrium is disrupted by the moon and
the sun. The gravitational pull of both the sun and the moon cause the oceans to bulge, and as this
bulge moves around the planet, the tides occur. Furthermore, the moon, although significantly
smaller than the sun, has a far greater affect on the tides due to its relatively small distance from the
earth. In addition, the tides also vary in intensity based on the alignment of the sun, the moon, and
the earth. When aligned, a higher than normal, lunar high tideoccurs. But why are these flows
relevant to renewable energy? They are important because that tidal energy can be harnessed for
use as a power source. Tidal power, like other renewable energy sources, is inexhaustible. In
addition, there is a major advantage over other clean energies, in that tidal energy is very
predictable. For example, there are not any wind charts telling what time of day the winds will be
optimal but there are charts of the tides. Therefore, by taking advantage of this resource, your
community could work towards being energy independent and self sustaining. Moreover, there
could be an opportunity to use any excess power generated as an income source. There are three
ways to harness the power of the tides; tidal barrages, tidal lagoons, and tidal streams. The first,
barrages, make use of the

John Adams And The Ethics Behind The Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre was an incident that took place on March 5, 1770 where the British Army
killed five male civilians as well as injuring six others. The use of propaganda at the time led by
patriots spurred hostility towards the British authority. The result of the hatred was great tension
among the public as well as the death of some of the participants. Following the alarming incidence,
Thomas Hutchinson, the acting governor committed himself to undertaking an inquiry, which

William Shakespeare s Macbeth And Henry Iv
Shakespeare s plays Macbeth and Henry IV Part One are both plays that are wrought with the notion
of destiny. The journeys that Macbeth and Hal undertake throughout these plays are contrastingly
different and each play takes on a different perspective of destiny. In Macbeth destiny is attempted
to be controlled by Macbethhimself whereas Hal has a destinythat he was born into, a destiny to be
king. Both are portrayed differently in different spheres of their society this will be explored further
in the examples below.
Firstly, language is the first indication of differences in both of these plays. Shakespeare is very
good at writing and distinguishing different social classes using different language techniques
and manners of expression. In Henry IV this is shown through Hals learning of a gruff and more
common language through the bartender, in many ways this ability to shift between a language
that the nobility would use and one that the commoners would use aids Hal through his destiny.
He is able to befriend the bartender and these commoners hence he gains the trust of his people,
which is an integral part of his plan to win back is honour as a prince and the loyalty of his
father. Furthermore Hal changes his diction when he declares his loyalty to his father and his king
showing his ability to once again use his diverse language skills to gain the power and honour he
truly wanted. In contrast the language in Macbeth is specifically used to create imagery, specifically

Vocation Questionnaire (CVQ; Dik, Eldridge, Steger, Duffy, 2012) to measure calling.
Measurement of the variable of academic satisfaction will be facilitated by a seven item

She said that Mount Sinai was continuing to use the drug, but each use now required a special
review. Unfortunately, the patients that needed this drug suffered from the malpractice of the
drug company, which consequently led to public outrage. Another example of company
malpractice was of Mylan raising the price of the EpiPen. Mylan Pharmaceuticals increased the
price of the EpiPen from $100 in 2009 to $608 in 2016. The EpiPen is a life saving drug that
many young children use in times of dire need so the $500 price increase felt morally unethical
to consumers. Consumers interpreted the increase as a manufacturer profiteering off a person s
life or death needs. Mylan then justified the prince increase because they said they had
competition from Sanofi but Sanofi dropped out of the market not soon after and the price still
increased from Mylan. In conclusion, drug manufacturers definitely hold on to some blame of the
recent prescription drug price spike. Arguably, the government and insurance companies have the
ability to work with companies to streamline certain processes and decrease costs and prices.
Medicare Part D is large enough and with enough money coming in that they can bargain and
negotiate drug prices with manufacturers. This solution would decrease the average costs of most
prescriptions for senior citizens and the disabled and would say the Medicare system between
$230 billion to $541 billion. However, some

The Effects of Parenting on the Development of
Self Regulation in Children
Effective regulation of emotions has been viewed as a developmental achievement that serves as an
essential requirement for numerous other developmental tasks. Specifically, because powerful
emotions have the potential to disorganize or disrupt multiple psychological processes, modulation
of their experience and expression has been considered crucial for basic state regulation,
behavioural exploration, cognitive processing, and social competence (Sheppes Gross, ... Show

Family demographics, parenting style, level of control, and warmth and responsiveness
demonstrated by parents proves to have a lasting effect on the child s self regulation as they
develop. Positive aspects of the previously mentioned variables are positively correlated with
successful self regulation skills in children. Self regulation creates a foundation for school
readiness, successful peer relationships, and the growth of self understandings, which includes one
s self concept, self esteem, and moral development.
Family Demographics and Parenting Style A child s development occurs foremost through the
reciprocal interactions with the family unit. Parents usually establish the foundation for good self
regulation by providing an environment that is warm, nurturing, and encourages trust. Piotrowski,
Lapierre, and Linebarger (2012) focus their research on understanding the correlates of self
regulatory abilities among children. The study was aimed at evaluating various demographic and
parenting variables in order to isolate the correlates of self regulation. Demographic variables of
interest in relation to child self regulation in the study included factors such as child age, family
income, and parenting style. Demographic variables are important to consider because children,

Pros And Cons Of Pelagianism
In the years following 400 AD, the ideas of the monk Pelagius spawned a heresy that still affects
people of the church today. Pelagianism holds that a man can take the initial and fundamental steps
toward salvation by his own efforts, apart from God s Divine Grace (Slick). In a nutshell, Pelagius
heresy states that man doesn t need help from Godto be able to live a holy life and to get into
heaven. Despite the heresy seeming to have nearly died out, it merely evolved into smaller
actions that allow it to slowly take hold of our lives. As Thomas Aquinas once stated, heresies are
a species of unbelief, and like other species, heresies like pelagianism will adapt in order to
survive. Pope Francis made the comments he did about Pelagianism to make it known how it can
sneak into our lives and, in addition, presents how we personally can avoid any further confusion.
While Pelagianism may have began many years ago, it still has a large enough influence to cause
Pope Francis to speak out against it today. Pope Francis has came out and said that it s not soul
searching or constant introspection that we encounter the Lord, [but living our lives] going ... Show

While with certain institutions when a problem arises, it is swept under the carpet and ignored,
Pope Francis did the exact opposite and recognizes Pelagianism as a issue within the Church. The
Holy Father shines the light back on this heresy and presents how Christians today are not
knowingly having beliefs that are Pelagianistic. To help clear confusion, Pope Francis shows us
how we can t solely rely on ourselves for salvation and that we can always find help through God.
We have to remember that if Jesusdid not die for our sins, we would not have the chance to enter
Heaven. So if we take God out of salvation, then why would have Jesus died to save us from our

Gloria Naylor s The Meanings Of A Word
Madeline Dixon Mrs. Fox 3B AP Lang 2 February 2014 The Meanings of a Word SOAPSTone
Subject In the narrative, The Meanings of a Word , Gloria Naylor portrays to the audience that
a word can have multiple different meanings and interpretations. Naylor tells her story of a word
her family used often in her childhood; the n word. When Naylor writes, The people in my
grandmother s living room to a word that whites used to signify worthlessness or degradation and
rendered it impotent. (par. 14, Naylor) she is connecting both her past, her family s use of the
word, and white s use of the word to show that the word has different meanings through ages, race,
gender, and behavior. Naylor makes it very clear that the theme of her narrative... Show more

Naylor wants them to think of how they interpret the word, who taught them the word, and why
they use the word. Purpose The purpose of writing this narrative is to raise awareness of the use
of the n word, what it means to the reader, and how they interpret it. Naylor wants the audience
to not only evaluate the n word, but every other word they use in their language. Naylor
describes how the word can have a positive or a negative meaning depending on the situation or
who is speaking the word. Speaker The speaker of this narrative is a black woman who does not
find concern or mortification in the use of the n word; a word that is known to put African
American s, like Naylor, to shame. Naylor also describes her past and is characterized as a young
girl who has had experience with the n word, mostly by her family. The n word had not effected
her as a child and still has not effected her today. This is present in the fourteenth paragraph when
Naylor states, I don t agree with the argument that the use of the n word at this social stratum of the
black community was an internationalization of racism. The dynamics were the exact opposite..

Hedda Gabler Naturalism Essay
Hedda Gabler and John are two plays whose characters are not the average hero. Hedda, the main
character in Hedda Gabler, comes off as a detestable woman, and in John, Jenny and Elias are
equally dysfunctional in their own ways. These characters are rich and multifaceted, a common trait
in the naturalism movement. Naturalismis a movement in theater that is essentially realism; it s
goal is to depict events and scenes as they would happen in the real world with characters who
behave like real people. It began in the late 19th century, but has prevailed through history (Styan).
Naturalism shapes the way people watch theater today, and these two plays are excellent examples
of this movement. By utilizing dialogue, stage directions,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Additionally, John embodies naturalism in it s own way, by including seemingly unimportant
information in dialogue. This is another display of naturalism, because in real life people do
include information that is irrelevant to the larger story. The characters, mostly Mertis, seem to
ramble on about things that don t always connect directly to the matter at hand. But Mertis does
this in a way that is familiar; like most real old people, she tends to get lost on a tangent. This
extraneous dialogue furthers the realistic feel of the play, but also shines light on the deeper
psychology of the characters in an almost sneaky way. For example, when Mertis talks about the
hospital she worked in, and how she ran into the doctor and got the chance to tell him she was
doing well for herself now, we see Mertis rambling on just like any older person talking about the
past. But this dialogue also reveals Mertis insecurities and need for validation. She wanted the
doctor to know she was doing quite well (Baker). Dialogue like this is important because it reveals
the intricacies of the characters and their complex nature.
Stage directions play a huge part in both of these plays as well, specifically in how the stage
directions affect dialogue. Naturalism was actually controversial when it was introduced due to
long pauses and lulls in dialogue, which at the time were perceived as boring. Stage directions that
call for long pauses are very common in Hedda Gabler and

The Physical Product Is A More User Friendly Live Digital...
Product The physical product is a more user friendly live digital mixing console (or sound
board). The purpose of this mixer is to divide the basic functionality of a mixer and the more
complicated features. Basic functionality is turning the volume up and down of a particular
channel and making other basic adjustments. The more professional components will be
outsourced to make the basic user less confused. The mixing console, given the name Mix 24, is
designed to divide the professional and basic capabilities of a live mixing console. The aim is to
use a computer alongside the mixer in order to create presets that would make it more user
friendly. The method of delivery for these presets would be through an online community that will
be discussed later. However, the basic user be locked out of certain features and settings to avoid
user error. Simply put, our main competitive advantage is the user friendliness and our online
community that would enhance the user friendliness. The product would be charcoal colored with
colors that can be distinguishable but are pleasing to the eye Possibly some shade of red on
controls that are more critical then controls that are less critical be some shade of blue. The user
would have some ability to change the colors of some of the elements but they are mostly stagnant
colors. Another physical attribute is that basic functions will not be hidden from the user. This is
another distinguishing feature because most competing mixing

Sex, Gender, And Gender
Growing up, I always believed that there was not a difference between a person s sex and
gender. Before learning about sex and gender throughout my school career, I would have defined
sex as a category in which you are born into based on what reproductive organ you are born with,
which is slightly correct. Yet, I would have defined genderin the same manner, using them
interchangeably just as most people, not knowing how complicated the terms really are. The
appropriate definition of sex referred to a person s biological status and categorized as male, female,
or intersex. Gender relates to the attitudes, feelings, and behaviors that a given culture associates
with a person s biological sex. (apa.org) I remember I would see things on tv about people who
say they were born with a body part that was different from what they felt like they were on the
inside, yet I never thought too much about it considering my mother always called it foolishness
and unreal. I had always heard the stereotype that girls were to act like girls and boys were to act
like boys. There was no in between, but if there was, it was not normal. Considering those
norms, I believe that it is not right trying to force someone to adhere to gender roles. From a
young age, everyone is taught what is appropriate for their given sex and what is not. Even
before birth, parents often categorize things according to sex: the color pink is for girls, and blue
is for boys. Parents do this because society

Watergate Of The Watergate Scandal
Watergate Scandal The Watergate Scandal happened almost 43 years ago; the event will never
be forgotten. The Watergate scandal defined, perhaps for the first time, that a president of the
United States could be portrayed as untrustworthy. Richard Nixon ran for a second term in 1972,
in which he won by a huge margin. The Democratic Party had their headquarters at the high end
Watergate hotel. The break in happened on June 17th, 1972, in which a security guard noticed
the tape on the door lock. Five men were found in the office and were arrested for burglary. It
seemed like a mission to spy on the Democratic Party since some of Nixon s assistants were
involved in the case.
November 5th, 1968: Richard Nixon was elected the 37th president. In 1971, in the response to
the leak of the Pentagon papers which were about the Vietnam War that went into detail that
nobody in the public knew. President Nixon authorized a creation of special investigators known
as the White House Plumbers . The investigators included, Bernard Barker, Virgilio Gonzalez,
Eugenio Martinez, Frank Sturgis, and James W. McCord Jr. Nixon told John Ehrlichman who
was the White House chief domestic adviser If we can t get anyone in this damn government to
do something about leaks, then by God we ll do it ourselves. I want you to set up a little group
right here in the White House. Have them get off their tails and find out what s going on and
figure out how to stop it. . On May 28th, 1972,

Themes In Iron Jawed Angels
One theme we see in Iron Jawed Angels is problems with resistance from men: in their families, in
their communities, in positions of legal/ political power. The first example of this theme that will
be discussed is the scene from the parade before President Wilson s inauguration. The Suffragists
are walking with their heads held high, smiles on their faces, and confidence in their gaits. The
crowd seems to be in awe of the sight before them, until men become disgruntled. One man yells
out ...Get off the streets, go home to your mother! , to which one marching suffragist responds, My
mother is here. Tensions rise as men begin booing and throwing paper, glass bottles, and insults, at
the women. As the anger from the crowd increases, men... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Men forcefully grab the flags from women, knocking them over. As she gets tossed around by the
angry crowd, Alice Paul calls out Officer, Officer, over here! but to no avail. A second example
of the theme was shown when Mr. Leighton enters the bathroom where a nanny and Mrs.
Leighton are bathing their children. Mr. Leighton asks, Did you see the paper? and proceeds to
read about the NWP s plans to vote against the democrats . Although she attempts to keep her
composure, Emily Leighton glances at the ground often, uncomfortable with the situation. Her
husband reads her name as a contributor and taps the newspaper on his hand as he waits for a
response. Emily says she used her housekeeping allowance and it had nothing to do with her
husband. Mr. Leighton, with furrowed brows and a frown, tells her she will withdraw her
membership and that he has closed her account. Emily looks helpless and hurt with her eyes round
and her mouth slightly ajar. She retains her shocked look and returns to bathing her smallest child.
A third example of the theme was when Lucy, Doris, and Ruza were protesting outside of the
White House after war was

Foreshadowing in William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily Essay
Foreshadowing in William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily William Faulkner paints a tragic tale
about the inevitability of change and the futility of attempting to stop it in A Rose for Emily .
This story is about a lonely upper class woman struggling with life and traditions in the Old South.
Besides effective uses of literary techniques, such as symbolism and a first plural person narrative
style, Faulkner succeeds in creating a suspenseful and mysterious story by the use of
foreshadowing, which gives a powerful description about death and the tragic struggle of the main
character, Miss Emily. In general the use of foreshadowing often relates to events in a story, and
few are attempted to describe character. Faulkner has effectively... Show more content on

The smell that upsets the community is the next foreshadowing of the death of Homer. The
smell comes a short time after her sweetheart...had deserted her (509). The manner of Homer s
death is implied in the conversation between Miss Emily and the pharmacist as she is buying
arsenic, a poison used to kill rats, as well as the picture of skull and bones , which is exactly
what the town people find left of Homer (511). The use of foreshadowing to describe the
changes in Emily physical and emotional life is subtler and relies heavily on symbolism. The
descriptions of the decaying house symbolize Miss Emily s physical and emotional decay, and
as well as her mental problems. It foretells of her downfall, a fallen monument (507). The house
is full of dust and dark shadows, It smelled of dust and disuse a close, dank smell , and
symbolizes the death filled environment that Emily lives in (508). To describe Emily s life,
Faulkner effectively uses foreshadowing in conjunction with structure in the chronology of
events. He opens the story with her death, goes backward in time when she is old, goes
backward again to the foreshadowed death of Homer, and then backward again to her romance
with Homer and finally to her death. Her first description is dark; black was her color, a
representation of death, depression and gloom. Her second mention is an upright torso motionless

Despite significant theories giving a relationship to premarital cohabitationand the likelihood of divorce, we have yet to definitively answer the underlying question of why the relationship exists. This study focuses not on the theories themselves, but on a function of marital life. Marital communication is a large part of marital development. Position B: Theory. The methodology strategy includes a collection of theories, concepts or ideas. October, 2014 Business News Daily, 2013 explained PEST Analysis (Political, Economic, Social and Technological Analysis) as how those external factors can affect a business s activities and performance... The article further explained that aside the fact that some organizations already have factors affecting their performance, there are some factors outside the organization that can determine the positive result of business. For those organizations to determine how those factors outside the organization can be of positive impact, they decide to conduct a PEST Analysis. In this research, I would be using TARGET CANADA as a case study on PEST Analysis. ABOUT TARGET CANADA. Target Canada. • 6. The Most Important Event Of Church History As I write this paper, on what, in my opinion, is The Most Important Event in Church History Between 6 B.C. and 1517, I have to first consider a question. What determines if something is important? There are a few things in my opinion that qualify an event as important. Of course, like beauty, importance is relative to the eye of the beholder. Here is how I behold what qualifies an event s importance. First, the event should be something that is relatable and affects a lot of people. Next, it ought to be something that is unique or dramatic. The event should also have a human interest factor. Lastly, it should evoke change that will benefit mankind. Now having established the criteria that I would use to define an event s importance, I deem the most important event to be the crucifixion/death and resurrection of Jesus, our Lord and Savior in the year 30 A.D. What makes Jesus crucifixion and resurrection relatable and affects lots of people? The fact that He was willing to sacrifice His life for man s sake fulfills this requirement. Because Jesus both died and rose again, we too through His example, can die to a life of sin in the world, and be resurrected to a new life of freedom in Jesus. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says this to us, Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new (ESV). In this scripture, Paul shows both, how what Jesus did relates to people, and how it affects everyone ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Betrayed By Milan Kundera Analysis In his excerpt from Testaments Betrayed, Milan Kundera claims that for one to be truly free, one must have the right to privacy. He says that the curtain must remain closed between private and public and that those curtain rippers are criminals. However, although I believe that privacy must be respected and protected, there are times when the invasion of privacy may be necessary if a person s life or well being is in immediate danger. Kundera claims that for a man to be free; that the curtain separating these two worlds is not to be tampered with... I agree with this part of his argument; privacy is something that has to be revered and enforced, as it is every man s right to have that freedom. My stance on this is supported by the U.S Constitution.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If a parent suspects that his or her child is suffering from depression or is involved in hazardous activity like drugs, alcohol, or a bad relationship, I believe should be allowed to violate the child s privacy. By simply looking through the kid s phone or computer, a parent can find an underlying problem that the child would have otherwise not have told them. A parent must protect their child from anything that could harm them, even if it s protecting the children from themselves, and the only way to do this (if the child refuses to confide) is to deliberately invade their privacy. As it happens, this violation of a child s privacy also occurs in a medical environment. If a psychologist s patient is exhibiting either suicidal tendencies or is under danger of any form of abuse, the doctor is required by law to make it known to either authorities or the parental guardians that their child is in danger. These actions are a direct infringement of a person s freedom that Kundera will readily disagree with, but if the curtain that keeps privacy undisclosed remains tightly shut, these cases may never be uncovered and these lives might not be ... • 9. Ir A Country With A Rich History Iran is a country with a rich history that stretches back to the formation of the Persian Empire in 550 BC. It is important to discuss the history of Iran when viewing its current state of politics because over this vast period of time there was a distinct set of rule that had just ended less than forty years ago. From 550 BC to 1979, Iran(formerly known as Persia, changed names in 1935) had been ruled by emperors, kings and shahs (Persian for king of kings ), until the Iranian Revolution of 1979 when the last shah, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, was overthrown. An important event that occurred under the leadership of shahs, occurred in 1501 under the leadership of the Safavid dynasty, when Iran adopted Shia Islam as their official religion. This event was important in many ways as it shaped the current political landscape of Iran and has been an increasingly debated topic in comparative politics. After the overthrow of the shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the person appointed as new leader of Iran was Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini. Khomeini had garnered widespread popularity when he spoke against the leadership of Pahlavi and was exiled from the country to Iraq, and later Paris. While in Iraq, Khomeini wrote the book, Islamic Government: The Governance of the Jurist. In his book, Khomeini introduced the idea of Velayat a faqih which essentially meant that the people should be ruled by clerical leader. He also believed that the state should be ruled under Sharia which translates ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

United States Involvement in Organized Conspiracy United States Involvement in Organized Conspiracy Was the war in Iraq a means to improve national security or a conspiracy to seek personal satisfaction? On March 19, 2003 a war was waged under public scrutiny, to destroy the Baathist regime headed by the Iraqi leader, Saddam Hussein. This pivotal point in United States history marked the beginning of public concern about political corruption within our government as a means to convey personal satisfaction. With presidential insight overlooking Iraq s government with a fine tooth comb, the Bush Administration decided to turn to public support as a means to increase the awareness in Iraq. This attention was based off the defiance amongst Iraq, and the United Nation (UN) ability to provide full access inside the country of Iraq. As public concern grew on the topic of Iraq, so did the presidential tone and manner when comparing Iraq to the central front in the War on Terror. This began a political push from leaders in and outside the U.S. to implement harsher penalties on Iraq or any country that didn t obey UN weapons inspections (resolution 1441). The resolution 1441 stated that if UN inspection was ever detoured from leaders in the country would be subjected to war. Another country siding with the Bush administration to dissimulate and destroy the Baathist regime in Iraq was Britain and its Prime Minister Tony Blair. After the invasion of Iraq occurred, documents that were obtained from Mr. Blair s office that depicted President Bush already mind set on invading Iraq. Strictly emphasizing that no matter resolution 1441 was compiled by the Iraqi regime or not. Even to go as far as to provoking war with Iraq whether WMD was found or not during the UN inspections. UMUC should performed periodic maintenance on hardware components and operating systems to ensure that the system is operating efficiently. Slavery was not a new concept to the Atlantic coastal regions of Africa, but the Europeans were able to take hold of an age old tradition and blow it out of proportion. Olaudah Equianos story is especially unique, given the wide array of worldviews he came in contact with, as well as the continued evolution of his own worldview throughout all of his experiences. In the first chapter of Volume I, Equiano goes into amazing detail as to the customs and day to day life of the way his home community functioned. He even goes so far as to make the suggestion that his people may be Jewish, by pointing out that the discrepancy in coloring between their races could simply be explained by having lived in a tropical zone for so long. Equiano supports this by citing research of Spaniards becoming as dark colored as the native Indians... Relating the traditions and practices of his native practices to those of Christianity may at first seem like an isolated incident, but throughout the book he continually tries to make a case for the similarities between his people and the Europeans. By doing this, he validates the belief of the abolitionists that Africans are worthy of being treated as if they were humanity, and not as if they were livestock. He even furthers this belief by enabling the reader to emotionally connect with a wide array of Africans throughout the story. Such a strategy results in the (probably European) reader being able to compare the way Europeans and Africans exist on an apples to apples level. This may seem like a very basic thing to be able to do, but the reader of the time of publication would have a much harder time as opposed to a modern reader. Christians were almost ... • 33. Impact Of Tidal Energy On The Earth Tides and currents have existed since before the dawn of man. While the rotation and gravitational forces of the earth act to keep our ocean levels steady, that equilibrium is disrupted by the moon and the sun. The gravitational pull of both the sun and the moon cause the oceans to bulge, and as this bulge moves around the planet, the tides occur. Furthermore, the moon, although significantly smaller than the sun, has a far greater affect on the tides due to its relatively small distance from the earth. In addition, the tides also vary in intensity based on the alignment of the sun, the moon, and the earth. When aligned, a higher than normal, lunar high tideoccurs. But why are these flows relevant to renewable energy? They are important because that tidal energy can be harnessed for use as a power source. Tidal power, like other renewable energy sources, is inexhaustible. In addition, there is a major advantage over other clean energies, in that tidal energy is very predictable. For example, there are not any wind charts telling what time of day the winds will be optimal but there are charts of the tides. Therefore, by taking advantage of this resource, your community could work towards being energy independent and self sustaining. Moreover, there could be an opportunity to use any excess power generated as an income source. There are three ways to harness the power of the tides; tidal barrages, tidal lagoons, and tidal streams. The first, barrages, make use of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Marriage is definitely one of the most basic and essential concerns that women are enormously engaged with. Virginia Woolf writes Mrs. Dalloway in order to reveal the truth of life, especially the life of the married women. Firstly, language is the first indication of differences in both of these plays. Shakespeare is very good at writing and distinguishing different social classes using different language techniques and manners of expression. In Henry IV this is shown through Hals learning of a gruff and more common language through the bartender, in many ways this ability to shift between a language that the nobility would use and one that the commoners would use aids Hal through his destiny. He is able to befriend the bartender and these commoners hence he gains the trust of his people, which is an integral part of his plan to win back is honour as a prince and the loyalty of his father. The EpiPen is a life saving drug that many young children use in times of dire need so the $500 price increase felt morally unethical to consumers. Pelagianism holds that a man can take the initial and fundamental steps toward salvation by his own efforts, apart from God s Divine Grace (Slick). In a nutshell, Pelagius heresy states that man doesn t need help from Godto be able to live a holy life and to get into heaven. Despite the heresy seeming to have nearly died out, it merely evolved into smaller actions that allow it to slowly take hold of our lives. Pope Francis made the comments he did about Pelagianism to make it known how it can sneak into our lives and, in addition, presents how we personally can avoid any further confusion. Additionally, John embodies naturalism in it s own way, by including seemingly unimportant information in dialogue. This is another display of naturalism, because in real life people do include information that is irrelevant to the larger story. The characters, mostly Mertis, seem to ramble on about things that don t always connect directly to the matter at hand. But Mertis does this in a way that is familiar; like most real old people, she tends to get lost on a tangent. This extraneous dialogue furthers the realistic feel of the play, but also shines light on the deeper psychology of the characters in an almost sneaky way. For example, when Mertis talks about the hospital she worked in, and how she ran into the doctor and got the chance to tell him she was doing well for herself now, we see Mertis rambling on just like any older person talking about the past. But this dialogue also reveals Mertis insecurities and need for validation. She wanted the doctor to know she was doing quite well (Baker). Dialogue like this is important because it reveals the intricacies of the characters and their complex nature. Stage directions play a huge part in both of these plays as well, specifically in how the stage directions affect dialogue. Naturalism was actually controversial when it was introduced due to long pauses and lulls in dialogue, which at the time were perceived as boring. Besides effective uses of literary techniques, such as symbolism and a first plural person narrative style, Faulkner succeeds in creating a suspenseful and mysterious story by the use of foreshadowing, which gives a powerful description about death and the tragic struggle of the main character, Miss Emily. The use of foreshadowing to describe the changes in Emily physical and emotional life is subtler and relies heavily on symbolism.
