Essay On Syncope
Introduction: Orthostatic symptoms are common in children and adolescents such that 15%
experience syncope once in their teenage years.1 A comprehensive history, physical examination,
bedside orthostatic testing and an ECG are usually sufficient for diagnosis combined with
prevention measures for postural intolerance and reassurance being sufficient in most cases.2 4
Many patients with orthostatic intolerance(OI) have limitations of daily activities with reduced
school attendance and impaired quality of life.5
A subset of children with OI may have an underlying disorder (autoimmune condition,
mitochondrial insufficiency, diabetes mellitus etc.) and thus diagnosis can be elusive and
expensive.6 Syncope is obvious and readily recognized to the extent that patients are frequently
evaluated in an emergency room and office setting. Clinical characteristics are described in children
with syncope but literature is limited in describing those many patients who present with symptoms
other than syncope.7,8 We studied the epidemiological and clinical characteristics of children and
adolescents with OI who had autonomic dysfunction based on head up tilt table test (HUTT).
Materials and methods
From November 2010 to June 2012, we obtained medical records of patients with OI and HUTT.
Our institutional review board approved this study. We collected demographic and clinical data
together with physiological data in Microsoft Excel sheet (Microsoft Office 2010). Data also ...

Antigen And T-Cells
2.A crazy immunology professor, in his wild immunological dreams has suggested that an antigen
arriving in a lymphoid tissue is like a bunch of children searching for their parents in a crowd at a
football stadium. Immunologically speaking, what does this analogy refer to and what is the
consequence of this encounter? Use a concrete and personal example to answer this question.
Newly generated lymphocytes, including T cells and B cells, will leave their central lymphoid
organs where they developed, and will migrate to the peripheral lymphoid tissues, where some
further maturation will occur. Mature lymphocytes continually recirculate between the blood and
peripheral lymphoid tissues. Thus, high concentrations of lymphocytes can be... Show more content

This specificity can relate to a child trying to find its parent in a crowd. The antigen recognition
molecules of T cells are made as membrane bound proteins and function to signal T cells for
activation. These molecules are called T cell receptors. T cell receptors are similar to antibodies
in structure, but they do not recognize and bind to the antigen directly. T cell receptors will
recognize short peptide fragments of pathogen protein antigens, that are bound to MHC molecules
on the surfaces of other cells. Major histocompatibility complex, or MHC will present fragments
derived from antigens and display them on the surface of antigen presenting cells to be recognized
by the T cell receptor. The TCR will recognize not only the peptide fragments of the antigen, but
will also recognize the MHC molecules which the fragment is bound to, adding another dimension
of specificity, relating to the analogy of a child trying to find its parent in a crowd. The
consequence of these interactions is an adaptive immune response of antigen specific lymphocytes
to the antigen, as well as the development of immunological memory. Adaptive immune responses
are generated by clonal selection of lymphocytes, and are distinct from innate responses. The
immune response consequence is in result to the antigen 3.Consider this scenario, even if you do
not agree with it.

China Cultural Awareness Book Report Essay
China Cultural Awareness Book Report
Introduction
I chose the book On China by Henry Kissinger to analyze the country I was assigned because it
was a fairly new book. On China was written in 2011, information throughout the book was relevant,
up to date, and easy to comprehend. Throughout the last few months of Warrant Officer Basic
Course we have been introduced to numerous tools that help us during the Targeting process. One
of the tools that we utilized was the acronym PMESII PT (political, military, economic, social,
information, infrastructure, physical environment, and time.) This acronym is utilized in regards to
analyzing a specific operational environment for a given area. The focal point of my analysis of the
book On China is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The context in this paper therefore is going to analyze the country progression utilizing the
information written in On China. I will analyze the country from the ancient China to the Modern
china that has established her through political leaderships and economic stability of the country.
Political organization in China
Dynasty rise and falls characterized China s ancient political organizations (Kissinger Henry 88).
The dynasty era began during the Xia dynasty in around 2100 1600 BC and ended when the
Republic of China government was formed in the year 1949. Their political organization was
hereditary, hence the name dynasty. This meant that when the king or the emperor died the
succession for the throne would occur in the same family line; mainly from father to son. There
were some occasions, however, when a non blood relative would assume the leadership positions.
Nevertheless, this was in very rare instances. This kind of political organization and ruling to some
extent might have promoted unity of the various kingdoms as per the time; although this was not
always the case. There are some instances when the country Kingdom split and later merged again
through conquests and war.
The ancient China was characterized by many dynasties (Kissinger Henry 72). The Xia dynasty
was the first. The Shang dynasties succeed the Xia dynasty (1600 1046). Then there was the Zhou
Dynasty. It was followed by the

Arabian Nights Argumentative Essay
The Arabian Nights is renowned for its multiple uses of enframed narratives. The layering of
stories adds new meaning to the various tales of The Arabian Nights by bringing up new
questions. In every story one reads, one finds themselves asking why Shahrazad would tell such a
story, what kind of message is this tale giving Shahriar, and why bother telling another story
within an already enframed story. However, The Arabian Nights is not alone in its use of the
enframed story. Works inspired by The Arabian Nights use their own enframing devices in order to
alter how one perceives and understands the stories these offshoots have taken from The Arabian
Nights. The adaptations this paper will look at include Disney s Aladdin film, Pasolini s Arabian...

The common ransom story does a wonderful job of lateral comparisons by bringing stories with
similar motifs, plots, and themes together. The Merchant and The Jinni produces this effect. The
story starts with a merchant who accidentally kills a Jinni by throwing a date seed (The Arabian
Nights 1: 10 19). The Jinni s father appears declaring that he will kill the merchant. Through a
series of events, three groups of travelers show up, and each traveler decides to exchange a third
of the merchant s punishment for a story. The travelers introduction starts drawing comparisons
between these travelers right away because they are all traveling with animals. As each traveler
tells their story, one cannot help drawing more comparisons as each story is about a failed
romance which is dealt with in some other way than violence, normally turning the guilty party
into an animal (The Arabian Nights 1: 10 19). The repetition of a nonviolent resolution to
romantic conflict ends up making a lateral comparison about the nature of conflict resolution. In
particular, the stories take on additional meaning as a tool to help Shahriar understand there are a
variety of ways to deal with romantic issues that do not involve murdering virgins (The Arabian
Nights 1: 3 10). By using enframed stories as a means of comparison, The Arabian Nights adds
extra depth and meaning to stories in light of the outer narrative and the surrounding stories in
order to produce a far more complex understanding of any one theme or

Screwtape Letter
Discerning Between Good and Evil Spirits The Screwtape Letters is an inverted approach to
Christianity that parallels the ideals in Ignatian spirituality. In a discussion of hell as a means of
business, an Uncle, Screwtape, writes letters of psychological insight for his nephew, Wormwood,
to coax his subject into turning towards Hell. Though C.S. Lewis writes from the perspective of
demons, this organically highlights the truths of Christianity. Screwtape pushes Wormwood to have
the patient discover evil in every dimension of his life as the patient begins to become a follower of
Christianity. To note, the Christian Godis labeled as the Enemy whereas the Devil is labeled as Our
Father Below . In order to turn the subject away... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Ignatuis sees God present in our daily lives and our creator, so does Screwtape who pushes
Wormwood to distort this image. For example, Screwtape advises, keep him praying to it to the
thing he has made, not to the Person who has made him (Lewis 18). Screwtape respects God as
seen by the capitalization of the word Enemy and wants the patient to focus on the opposite of
God s virtues because God s love can prove his existence. The demons must work around God
and have their subjects focus on themselves not God. Furthermore, Wormwood has the subject
work with God through God s grace which protects subjects from the temptations of the devil.
Screwtape goes on to criticize Wormwood s ignorance when Wormwood, allowed [the patient]
two real positive Pleasures...[for] when they are wholly His they will be more themselves than
ever (64 65). God wants his followers to be wholly him and wholly themselves. It is loving God
back when a person is him/herself. Screwtape realizes the faults in letting him act, but the subject
only becomes more humble as Wormwood dismisses said advice. The third way in which the
spirit works is a vision of love. Screwtape berates the Enemy s philosophy of love that [t]hings are
to be many, yet somehow also one (94). God claims to be the Father, the Son,

The quote by Mahatma Gandhi that says, be the change you want to see in the world is
implying that if you want the world to change, you are the only one that can kick it off. You can
t sit back and wait for someone else to take action, you have to do it yourself. In the book
Stronger by Jeff Bauman, Jeff decides that he wants to walk, and he dedicates himself to that goal.
He doesn t simply have the choice to let someone else walk for him. In the beginning of the book,
Jeff Bauman is a normal guy, but by the end, he has transformed into a brand new individual.
Throughout the narrative, he changed the lives of countless people. He assisted in catching the

Examples Of Bravery In I Am Mordred
The code knights of the Middle Ages followed laid out strict guidelines for them. They were
expected be top class and perfect in many ways. Of the strict rules they followed, there were also
several traits a knight was expected to exhibit. These traits of bravery, loyalty and generosity are
outlined in the novel, I am Mordred. Firstly, bravery is exhibited in various places throughout the
novel. The first is when Nyneve comes to take Mordred from his fishermother. Though Nyneve is
not a knight, she exhibits great bravery in riding alone. Mordred spends much of his life refusing
to fight and being content with being called a coward, until he is faced with death. He fights back

Courage In Amelia Earhart
Courage is the price that Life exacts for granting peace. The soul that knows it not, knows no
release from little things. Amelia Earhart. Life is not meant for the meek. It is not meant to be
lived in a box or in a comfort zone. As Amelia Earhart so eloquently put it, it takes courage to
experience peace in this life. I have had to embody that as I follow my dreams and fight for my
goals. My goal is to be a pediatric genetic counselor. To accomplish this goal, I have had to use
courage to face adversity, step outside my comfort zone, and strive for what I want. You can t just
sit back and wait for what you want. It s not enough to just say you want something and go
through the motions. You have to fiercely and actively seek out what you want and prove that you
are the best choice. It may not always work out in your favor, but it is better to fail then to never
try at all.
The soul that knows it not knows no release from the little things: knows not the livid loneliness of
fear. Amelia Earhart. When trying to accomplish your goals, not everything will go as planned.
Very rarely will you just be handed what you want. When you work for something, sometimes
you will fail. You will be told you weren t the best choice or you were good, but just not what
they were looking for. And it hurts. It beats you down and steals your confidence. But failure is the
best teacher. Failure makes you stronger and builds you up to be the best you can. It can be
challenging to try again

Structure Of Modern Times By Charlie Chaplin
Hierarchy in a modern capitalist society can be seen in the form of corporations through the
capitalist division of labor. In the essay What do bosses do? The origins and functions of hierarchy
in capitalist production , Stephen A. Marglin argues that Adam Smith s capital division of labor
was not due to technological efficiency, but rather due to economic superiority created through
hierarchy and specialization in the market. Marglin points out the reasons why hierarchy exists,
which is to maximize bosses profits, how hierarchical control can result in capitalist instability
through mass production, and the impacts of hierarchy on the wellbeing of factoryworkers, as best
exemplified in the film Modern Times by Charlie Chaplin.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In the first act of Modern Times , the manager commanding the line of workers like Chaplin s
character, Little Tramp, to speed up their production by five times exemplifies how bosses control
the production out of their best economic interests. Even in the sharecropping system, for
example, landowners have the power to choose the type of crops to produce whereas tenants do
not. The existence of hierarchy demonstrates the integration role of the bosses in combining
separate operations of production process. The specialization and separation of worker task
inquires an overlook of the business by a manager. Since each individual worker is assigned and
stuck to only a small task of the production process, the bosses undertake the role of providing
discipline and supervision to connect those separate tasks together to minimize the costs of
production. Consequently, under the longwall system with mechanized separate tasks, the
supervision of bosses is responsible for the success of capitalism, not technological superiority. The
image of the feeding machine in Modern Times provides a critical example of how advanced
machines might not help facilitate the accomplishments of the factory. Thus, some researchers have
attributed the prosperity of a corporation to the development and management of work organization
by the bosses, whom are the exploiters of the capitalist system.

Steven Spielberg is one of the most successful directors of all time (in fact, may people would
argue that he is the most successful director there has ever been) and his movies have been some
of the most profitable and well known in history. His opening sequences are noted for being
captivating, gripping and often scary, building tension and suspense. Born in 1946 in Ohio,
Spielberg has become elite among directors. The gross of the films he has directed is estimated at
$8.5 billion, and three of his films Jurassic Park, Jaws and E.T. the extra terrestrial have achieved
box office records.

Spielberg s Saving Private Ryan has been credited as being the most accurate war recreation film in
history. It is the winner of five Academy Awards including Best Director for Steven Spielberg

Jaws, the opening scene has perfect equilibrium, calm at both the beginning and the end.
Another thing this opening scene has in common with Jaws is the under water camera, and
there are also shots from the killer s point of view in this case, the shooters . In addition to this,
they both end with calm water; a common theme in Spielberg s openings. At the beginning of
the scene, there is a long shot of a war cemetery; this drives home the seriousness of the war and
just how many people died as it is very easy to forget the sheer number of people who were
murdered during the war. The extreme close up on the eye of an old Captain Miller (Tom Hanks)
gives the audience a feeling of connection with the character and lets them know he is going to
have an important role within the film. During the fight scene the camera angles are wild
movements and a handheld camera is used to give the effect of a person running as though it is
from one of the soldiers point of view as this is likely to be something like what they would have
seen and experienced. There are many visual effects such as one boat being set on fire with the
soldiers still

Drug Drugs And The New Zealand Party Scene
PHARM111G Drugs Society
Assignment 2: Legal Highs
Pre 2008 Legal Highs were the crux of the New Zealand party scene. Legal highs like Party Pills
and Synthetic cannabis have since been reclassified as class C drugs and have been pulled off the
shelves of all retailers in New Zealand. Since the psychoactive substances act 2013 there has
always been the looming suspicion that the drugs will make their way back onto the shelves, by
bending their way around the law or in the underground scene. The 2013 psychoactive substances
act states the new legal high drugs must have limited regulation in the form of licensing and pre
release human experimentation to test substance effects proving that they are safe or unsafe. Prior
to this legal highs were posed as an experimental way to try cull the sale of illicit drugs; but after
such drugs as BZP showed their harmful effects, this had to be restricted. (https://en.wikipedia.org
/wiki/Psychoactive_Substances_Act_2013)
First of all, what are Legal Highs?
Legal highs are substances which have chemicals in them that mimic those that are found in illicit
drugs, but are safer than illicit drugs. These days this doesn t seem to be the case. (http:/
/www.talktofrank.com/drug/legal highs) Some examples are synthetic cannabis, it is a synthetic
cannabinoid receptor antagonist which are supposed to mimic the effects of Cannabis, but its
effects are quite unpredictable. (Roland Macher; Tod W. Burke, Ph.D, Stephen S. Owen, Ph.D.

Realism And The Victorian Era
So what does one do when said individuals that are of different blood and social statuses fall in
love? The Victorian Era was a time where your social status could be construed as directly
correlating to whom said individual could socialize with, marry, or have any ties too. Perhaps
maybe there weren t three individuals that knew this more than the three of Wuthering Heights
Edgar Linton, Catherine Earnshaw, and Heathcliff. The Victorian Era had many elements that
could be tied to it but the one that will be the center focus for this paper will be realism. Realism
emphasized the middle class and rejected the heroic in favor of the ordinary, focusing on
common people and common situations. In realism the middle class was simply feed up with
social statuses and not having a voice in society. Another group of people that simply were feed
up with the norms of society was that of women. Realism not only focused on the common class
as a whole but on the empowerment of women and letting these ladies voices be heard whether it
was through writings such as Wuthering Heights. Nevertheless, the Victorian Era was a time in
which many would considered was the ultimate turning point for two different group of people as
a whole the commoners as well as the women of this era. Edgar Linton was a young man of noble
blood that makes the love between Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff very complicated. From the
story of Wuthering Heights Linton definitely would be the ideal guy for Catherine

A Research Study On Genetic Engineering
Genetic engineering is using molecular biology methods to modify the genetic information of an
organism. Its aims include learning about the biology of an organism and generating new or
improved commercial products. Plant biotechnology is manipulating plants specifically to improve
agricultural needs. GMOs or genetically modified organisms are organisms modified by genetic
engineering to express desirable traits. DNAfragments containing said desirable traits and a means
of introducing the DNA to the host plants is required for genetic engineering. Some common
methods of introducing DNA fragments to plants include the use of viruses, chemicals, some means
of physical insertion, or the use of agrobacterium.
Mysore et al aimed to study the mechanism of Agrobacterium transformation, DNA transfer, and the
possible limits of genetic engineering. A complementation test of rat5 mutant and Histone H2A
(RAT5) showed rat5 mutant is responsible for the mutant phenotype. Transient and stable ОІ
glucuronidase expression and T DNA levels of wild type and rat5 Arabidopsis plants showed that
the rat5 mutant is deficient in T DNA integration. The researchers also thought rat5 could be
haploinsufficient and to test this hypothesis they transformed wild type plants with A. tumefaciens
GV3101(pE1553) and found the rat5 mutant does not show dominance in WT plants.1 So, two
copies of RAT5 geneare necessary to conduct Agrobacterium mediated transformation. This paper

The Normative View Of Christianity
Christianity is a widespread religion that reaches many different cultures and places all around the
world. Since it is such a widespread religion there are many types of interpretations that can be
developed based off the words and teachings of the Bible. Most commonly we have the normative
view of Christianity. The normative view can most basically be understood as the highly shared
teachings of churches. Another type of interpretation that encompasses all beliefs that are not
compliant with the normative view is called esoteric. Here we will compare the interpretations of
Daskalos, the Great Teacher of Cypress, and his Researchers of Truth against the normative view
of Christianity as understood by both Catholics and Protestants. In order to further investigate the
differences between Daskalos esoteric beliefs and normative beliefs we must understand fully
what esoteric and normative truly mean. A few beliefs of normative Christianity, as explained by
Moreman, are as follows: the belief in judgement after death. There are only 2 places to go, hellor
heavenand that may or may not be after a slight stop in purgatory, the intermediate state of being
right after death where souls await resurrection (Moreman, 62). When the resurrection happens,
people will be resurrected in their physical bodies, thanks to interpretations by St. Augustine of
Hippo (Moreman, 62). Those souls or people that are evil will spend eternity in hell in fiery
damnation (Moreman, 63). The beliefs of

Negotiations of the Cuban Missile Crisis
Introduction By 1962, the Soviet Union was considerably behind the United States in the nuclear
arms race. The Soviet Union had limited range missiles that were only capable of being launched
against Europe, but the United States possessed missiles that were capable of striking anywhere
within the entire Soviet Union. As it is often said, when it comes to national security, leaders
sometimes make irrational decisions. In an effort to restore the balance of power Soviet Premier
Nikita Khrushchevdevised the idea of placing intermediate range missiles in Cuba (14 days in
October). This deployment of weapons in Cuba would double the Soviet strategic arsenal and
provide a credible deterrent to a potential U.S. attack against the... Show more content on

This paper will focus on three two negotiations that comprised the Cuban Missile Crisis:

U.S. President Kennedy vs. Own advisors (EX COMM) U.S. President Kennedy vs. Soviet Union
Premier Nikita Khrushchev
Cross Cultural Negotiations The biggest obstacle that the Soviets and Americans faced in dealing
with this crisis was the added difficulty imposed by cross cultural negotiations. This added burden
further magnified the differences in thinking, feeling and behaving between the two countries. The
table above illustrates the national style in negotiation faced by the United States and Soviet Union.
Both the Americans and Soviets had to take into account each other style to eventually reach an
agreement. Even though Cuba was at the center of this debate, it played a minor roll in the
negotiations between the US and Soviet Union. This national style of negotiation may have
contributed to the crisis through the actions or lack of actions perceived by the Soviets. For
example, in June of 1961 and during the early months in office, President Kennedy attended a
summit with Premier Khrushchev in Vienna to discuss cold war confrontations between the east and
west, in particular the situation in Berlin. The failure of the two leaders to reach any

Examples Of Archetypes In The Lamb By William Blake
True Meaning
(A discussion on Blake s Archetypes)
An archetype is defined as a recurrent symbol in literature, art, and mythology. Usually an
archetype is a character in a story that represents such universal patterns of human nature.
William Blake is a poet and an artist during the 1800 s who used archetypes in many of his writing
s he wrote. Blake published two books of poems, one being called Songs of Innocence, and Songs
of experience, these two books of poems are his most known writings. William Blake uses
archetypes in his four poems The Lamb , The Tyger, The Chimney Sweeper , and Infant Sorrow .
In The Lamb , the lamb is the archetype that symbolizes as cute and sweet. In the poem Blake s
describes the lamb as softest clothing of delight . He explains the lambs wool as soft and
elegant. Blake talks about the lambs sound explaining Gave thee such a tender voice, making all
the vales rejoice. Blake explains that the lambs noise can make the most depressed valley s happy
with joy. The lamb is symbolized as sweet an innocent. Blake decided that the lamb is one of God s
great creations.
In The Tyger Blake uses the tyger as an archetype of power. Tigers in the real world today are the
biggest killing/hunting machines, and they never let anything get in their way. Tigers want all
the power. Blake explains What immortal hand or eye, could frame thy fearful symmetry? . He
uses the word fearful in that sentence to describe the tigers face. He also used the word could in
the quote above, but also restates the statement using dare instead of could. Blake is trying to
get at how could someone make something so destructive and demanding. Blake uses fire to
describe the tiger several times. For example, In what distant deeps or skies burnt the fire of
thine eyes. Blake s uses fire to describe the tiger because they share similar qualities, such as
being deadly and harmful to many living things. William Blake did a excellent job at explaining
how a tiger is a good archetype for power.
In The Chimney Sweeper uses archetypes to represent faith. Blake is able to use these chimney
sweepers as a good archetype for faith because they often go through very hard lives. When my

Eminent Domain Purposes
1.When does a taking occur for eminent domain purposes? Refer to the Lucas case. Eminent
domain refers to the inherent power of the state to take or seize the private property of its
individual citizens. Property taken through eminent domain is mainly set aside for the
development of public utilities or assigned to a third party who is then supposed to use it for the
general good of the public (Larson, 2004).
There are generally four types of takings employed by the state through eminent domain. These are:
a.Complete Taking This is where the state seizes an entire propertyin for public use. In the case of
Lucas v. South Carolina Coastal Council (1992), the plaintiff was entitled to compensation as a
result of the complete taking of his land. However the Supreme Court denied him any
compensation stating that the restriction imposed on the use of the land was in the interest of the
general public due to the intended use of the land. Therefore the Takings Clause does not apply in
this case in spite of the economic benefits lost incurred as a result of the complete taking of his
property.
b.Partial Taking The state in this case takes a portion of a particular property mainly for the
expansion of the existing utilities. The owner of the property is liable for compensation in regard
to the piece of land seized and any resulting decline in the value of the remaining property.
c.Temporary Taking The government may require a piece of land to be used as a site when

Trip To Yosemite Research Paper
Trip to Yosemite When I was in 7th grade, the whole entire grade suggested that we should go on
a camping trip. We had many places to choose from, but we all agreed on going to Yosemite. The
reason we chose Yosemite is because we wanted people to stay away from their video games and
electronics for a couple of days and actually enjoy what beautiful things God had made and what
the outside world has to offer. It was an amazing trip and we did have many unforgettable
memories. But one memory I had was on the second day of the trip, it was the day we started to do
activities with our group leader. We hiked up a waterfall, played some games, and also took lots of

that we were still within the border and that we wouldn t get lost. But they still admonished us

Neighbors By J Cole Analysis
The song Neighbors by J cole is a song about how he feels people in the world today view the
black community and how they are treated by authority and civilians. One of the lines that he raps
is Travon kind of fate, this line obviously referring to the death of Trayvon Martin; the young black
boy viciously murdered by a white man. Another line that hits home with a lot of his fans is the
line, cops bustin down the door with army guns no evidence of the harm we done, this line referring
to the treatment of blacks throughout the country by police officers. I feel that this song really
speaks out about the current situation we are dealing with in this country with lingering racism and
inequality. The Montgomery Bus Boycott starter in 1964

Plato on Censorship
Since the rise of man, the concept of art has also arisen. With it, the goods and troubles it causes.
Some argue that art is good and is only entertainment, while others see it as the cause of a State s
corruption. In Plato s The Republic , Socrates thought that art should be censored because of its
heavy influence on men. Writer Alexander Nehamas, on the other hand, feels that one generation s
entertainment is the next s fine art, which he thinks is ridiculous to censor. But the biggest question
that remains is: when does art stop being art?
Platonic censorship is based mainly on excluding forms of art and literature from society, based on
the components they include that portray bad role models and blasphemies, topics not ... Show more

The fact is that the works of both Homer and Aeschylus, whatever else they were in classical
Athens, were, first and foremost, popular entertainment. (Nemaha, 3) Nemaha says that
entertainment was basically just a representation of their world. To compare the Iliad... to Grand
theft auto...may seem silly if not absurd (Nemaha, 4) Nehama restates that fine art is meant to
change people, and entertainment is just to please. Art should not be censored it allows us to
express ourselves, and a world without imagination would be a dull one, with depraved life .
My personal opinion is that art should NOT be censored. It is good to have bad art in order to
show the youth what is not acceptable and what is. This way we can create a better future for the
children without leaving them so hopelessly innocent minded. In another way, I think you should
not be able to label someone else s work as good or bad art. I, just like article writer Jeff Goins,
think, what is not okay is calling something art when it s not when it is, in fact, something else. (Jeff

The Spanish English marriage alliance of Catherine of Aragon and Prince Arthur was arranged

who would be, Henry VIII so that he did not lose the dowry money from Catherine s parents and

Throughout this time period, Cardinal Wolsey, an advisor to Henry and very powerful in the
Catholic Church, moved closer and closer to Henry. As the relationship progressed Henry became
more distant to Catherine. Wolsey spied on Catherine and she thought he acted against her
always. She began to believe that Wolsey had always hated her and possibly that she had always
hated him also. She held him responsible for the promotion of Henry s bastard son, for tempting
the King of France to break the word agreed at Madrid and plunging Europe into war, for ruining
the alliance between the two countries, and for seducing the pope and the Italian states. She also
held Wolsey responsible for Henry s irritability.
It isn t surprising that Catherine also blamed Wolsey for Henry wanting to divorce her. But,
Catherine was not the only one with this idea. The ambassador, the emperor, Reginald Pole,
Catholic controversialists, and Catholic writers ever since have agreed that Wolsey was
probably the instigator. Catherine s thought that Wolsey had put the ideas of divorce into Henry
s head was very reasonable. She believed that Wolsey thought this was the best way to safeguard
his pro French policy by removing Catherine and replacing her with a French princess. Wolsey

Children In Brave New World
Aldous Huxley s Brave New World is a controlled world with most of the people being
conditioned. People are taught what to think from the beginning of their life and programmed to
enjoy the life they have. Hypnopaedia is teaching through sleeping, one of the ways the
government conditions the children. Some people, of course, fall out of conditioning and are
sent back for more hypnopaedia or sent to an island, much like a prison. Soma is a drug that
gives people a way out of feeling any emotions that they don t want to. Many plot points show an
example of how the Brave New Worldis a futuristic society.
In the Brave New World, the way the world develops children is a very futuristic way. In their
world, they use the Bokanovsky s process. The Bokanovsky s process is the scientific way of
children. As the book states One egg, one embryo, one adult normality. But a bokanovskified egg
will bud, will proliferate, will divide. From eight to ninety six buds, and every bud will grow into
a perfectly formed embryo, and every embryo into a full sized adult (6). They use science to
produce the babies. They aren t produced through sexual intercourse between a man and a woman.

but a younger me thought that he would actually do it.
I don t remember what happened right after clearly. I know my mother came home and the yelling

finally a time to collect what was going around. That short time of calmness was too good to be

In 1939, Jackson Pollock entered psychotherapy for his alcoholism. For him, the doctors saw
that producing artwork could serve as a means of therapy for his problem with alcohol. His
alcoholism would later come back to haunt him and his works in later years and become the
cause of his ultimate demise. Pollock began doing all of his works in a completely abstract
manner in the mid 1940s. But, after 1947 is when Pollock s most recognizable abstract works
would be produced. This is when he began placing large canvases on the floor and creating his
famous abstract works. On these large canvases, he started to use his drip technique, which was
first shown to him by Siqueiro. These drip paintings were first shown in 1948. They are said to
reflect both ecstasy and anxiety. After they were introduced to the world, a critic actually

Lee Krasner, a painter herself. His personal technique in gesture and action painting was applied
as directly as possible. Pollock said that through this active process, he could literally be in the

The Effects of Anxiety on Adolescent Women Research This paper includes five articles that report
results from research conducted to observe how adolescents, specifically female, are affected by the
anxiety disorders. Blumenthal, Leen Feldner, Babson, Frala (2011) stated Adolescence is a key
period in terms of the onset and intensification of psychological diagnoses and symptomatology
across clinical domains (e.g., depression, panic attacks; and both empirical and theoretical work

entering the pubescent period in more than just socially based forms.
Blumenthal, Leen Feldner, Babson, Frala (2011) performed an observational study on various
participants to determine whether or not anxiety affects which ages and genders most severely. The
purpose of this paper was to compare the anxiety levels in those reaching the pubescent stages at
different maturity levels. They hypothesized that anxiety would be most severe in those who
matured earlier and hit a pubescent period younger. Procedures: Youth were screened for
particularly erratic criteria, and the eligible were scheduled for the experiment, only when

Art Analysis Of Thomas P. Anshutz s A Rose
The image I chose for this paper is titled A Rose. The image is a painting painted in oil on a
canvas and was painted by Thomas P. Anshutz. The painting was produced in Pennsylvania during
1907. I researched this image on ARTstor by using the term realism and then I narrowed down my
search by selecting a filter to return paintings as well as setting the geography filter to North
America. The painting belongs to The Metropolitan Museum of Art s collection and is on display
in the American Wing in the gallery of Images of Woman
from 1880 to 1910.
I selected this painting because the colour contrast of the pink dress against the dark background
caught my eye. I also found the expression of the young woman to be interesting.
The painting depicts a young woman in a pink dress sitting down. The background is very dark
but three things can be made out by the viewer. Starting with the ground plane of the painting, an
orange carpet can be seen covering the entire floor. It is patterned and contains yellows, greens
and blues. The cool toned colours are darker in hue than the warm toned. Secondly, there appears
to be a cabinet or a desk lining the wall behind her. The wood of the cabinetry is carved with
detailed designs and is made of a dark stained wood. Despite the dark background a single red rose
can be seen on top of the cabinetry. The rose looks freshly picked and shows no signs of withering
in its petals. It is painted in a muted red colour that allows it to stand out on

Media And Gender Roles In The Media
At a young age, children begin to comprehend gender roles, which are a set of societal norms that
determine what is considered acceptable, desirable and appropriate based on an individual s sex.
We obtain these gender associated roles from various places and one dominant source with direct
influence is the media. Media plays a critical role in influencing genderroles through impacting the
career choices we make, the behavioral patterns we implement in our lives and the sexual
stereotypes we have been conditioned to accept. In the first place, society has grown to
associate certain occupations with a particular gender. One reason this occurs is as a result of
mass media displaying a certain gender occupying a particular job position more than the other
genders. Females are often displayed on television, magazines and internet sources as occupying
positions such as housewives, nurses, receptionists and teachers. On the other hand, males are
portrayed in roles such as the family s breadwinner, doctors and principles. For example, in the
show I Love Lucy , Lucy is a housewife looking to escape her domesticated lifestyle. In the
process of doing so her ventures quickly turn to antics, leaving husband Ricky, who is the family
s breadwinner, to correct the mess she creates (Rosie 357). Similarly, in another show called Our
Miss Brooks , Miss Brooks is a teacher who battles with a bossy school principal, Mr. Conklin.

Since the late 1970s corporate power has grown to unprecedented heights. What does increasing
corporate power have on social, political, and/or environmental factors?
Who has the most power? Governments, consumers or corporations? Perhaps the question that
should be asked is who should have the most power. The obvious answer would be consumers
and the government. Although in a perfect world this may be the case but in reality this is far
from the truth. It is nor do the governments or the consumers who has the most power but rather
the corporations. Over the past four decades, a shift in power has been taking place, out from the

on Africa in terms of social, political and environmental factors.
The rise in corporate power cannot be seen more vividly than in Africa. Over the past four decades,
corporate social responsibilities of multinational corporations operating in Africa has been one of
the most prominent issues in the world. The rise in potency of multinationals owes its existence to
the natural riches of Sub Saharan African nations. These African nations are characterised by high

Analysis Of The Short Story You CanT Take It With You
Example Intro. Paragraph: When I was in first grade, I wanted to learn how ride a bike. My older
siblings could all ride bikes, and I wanted the same independence that they had. Instead of going to
my dad for help, I walked my pink unicorn bike to the top of a hill by myself. I got on the bike and
pushed off. That day I fell several times, but I was not going to give in to failure. I wanted to prove
that I could do anything that my older siblings could do. Finally, I got back up to the top of the
hill, pushed off, pedaled, and I was riding my bike all by myself. By wanting to learn how to ride
my bike by myself and not wanting to help of others, I was showing pride. Pride can be dangerous,
but it is also a way to motivate people... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His family repeatedly tells him that he will not be able to take his fortune with him when he dies,
which means that they assume that he will have to leave them his money. This shows that Uncle
Basil succeeded in his plan to take his money with him even into death through having himself
cremated in a coffin lined with his fortune. Through these decisions, Uncle Basil is proud of his
miserly decisions and his clever plans to ultimately prove his family wrong.
In the novel Divergent by Veronica Roth, Tris shows pride through taking risks to prove that she
is not weak. Tris joins the fearless Dauntless faction in order to hide her divergence from normal
human tendencies, but she must also make it through her Dauntless initiation. One example of
Tris showing pride by taking risks is when Tris volunteers to jump off a building first. I am
proud. It will get me into trouble someday, but today it makes me brave...I don t think. I just
bend my knees and jump (Roth 57 58). Tris knows that she is proud, and she understands that
pride can be both beneficial and dangerous. In the situation of jumping of a tall building, her
pride is a positive trait that makes her brave enough to take risks and prove herself worthy of
being part of Dauntless when she doubts herself. Another example of Tris s pride is when she
takes the responsibility of saving the factions. She explains, The best I can hope for is to destroy
the simulation before someone kills me. When did I decide on

skillful, finished portraits by having the ability in restoring the outward appearances of individuals

One way they were able to achieve through the 1905 Hester Street painting that celebrated the
scampering streets of urban life, as it displayed immigrant shoppers, curious onlookers, casual

overlook the overcrowding, crime, and sheer poverty of the slums by creating a more colorful
and lively place that represented hope in the future. Yet she is also a type, both easily

His compassion is particularly evident in His provision for the poor, the oppressed and the
underprivileged in the Mosaic Law. And when the Israelitesforsook His covenant and were
subjected to His judgement, it was on the basis of His mercy and compassion that He promised
restoration upon their repentance:
None of the devoted things shall stick to your hand, that the LORD may turn from the fierceness of
his anger and show you mercy and have compassion on you and multiply you, as he swore to your
fathers (Deuteronomy 13:7). 2.1.5His Covenant Keeping Characteristic
God particularly revealed Himself to Moses as a covenant making and covenant keeping God. No
doubt, Moses had in depth knowledge of the Abrahamic covenant prior to His commission on
Mount Horeb, but at that Mount of God , he was clearly instructed that it was on the basis of the
Abrahamic covenant that God was now setting things in motion to deliver the children of Israel and
to bring them into the land He promised Abraham, Isaac and Jacob:
God spoke to Moses and said to him, В‘I am the LORD. I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to
Jacob, as God Almighty, but by my name the LORD I did not make myself known to them. I also
established my covenant with them to give them the land of Canaan, the land in which they lived
as sojourners. Moreover, I have heard the groaning of the people of Israel whom the Egyptians
hold as slaves, and I have remembered my covenant. Say therefore to

Sugarcane ( Saccharum Spp )
Sugarcane (Saccharum spp.), a C4 photosynthetic plant, is a perennial grass that is cultivated in
tropical, and subtropical regions of the world for its ability to store high concentrations of sucrose
in the stem. Recently it is also gaining importance as an efficient feedstock for lignocellulosic
ethanol in converting energy from sunlight into chemical energy that is usable as a biofuel source.
Recognition of sugarcane as an important energy crop was recently heightened by the advent of
large scale sugarcane based ethanol production in Brazil. The strong association of lignin with
cellulose and hemi cellulose blocks the access of cell wall degrading enzymes like cellulases to
cellulose and hemicellulose during saccharification. Therefore... Show more content on

Stereotypes in American Born Chinese Essay examples
All women are too sensitive! All Mexicans are illegal immigrants! If you re from the South, then
you are ignorant! Most people have heard at least one of these stereotypes pertaining to a certain
group. Some people believe them whilst others do not. American Born Chinese illustrates three
stories depicting the custom of stereotypes surrounding society: The Monkey King , the story of
Monkey King s thirst for infinite power, and his quest for atonement; Jin Wang , the story an
awkward boy who tries to fit in the community around from but constantly fails; and Danny , the
story about a high schooler who feels uncomfortable by his stereotypically negative Chinese cousin

To some people this is not be viewed as a stereotype due to the fact it is not instantly perceived as
negative ; for those readers who delve in deeper, this stereotype outlines the educational daily
hidden pressure of people from Chinese descent whom do not fit this positive stereotype. Every day,
especially in American society, classmates look to their Asian counterparts to provide the answers
to questions they do not know in every subject they take. Nonetheless, this ridiculous assumption
hurts the Asian students that do not feel comfortable with their intellectual abilities. Placing Asian
students as the model student excludes the students who actually have problems and need help that
other classmates are reluctant to give the students simply because their classmates do not view
helping their struggling Asian classmates as an actual necessity. By poking fun and bringing into
light both Asian stereotypes, Yang enforces view that stereotypes are in use today. Likewise, both

The most memorable and significant works are the ones that address problems within society,
and this 1996 novel is a prime example of the postmodern era that has left its mark nearly two
decades after its release(Choules). Although it is hard to attribute one definition to
postmodernism, it can be seen as a concept that arose after World War II, characterized by
portraying the capitalistic values of the Western world. (Philosophy) Turning to destruction and

disproved the original hypothesis as it was discovered that favouritism, nepotism and cronyism all

that limited the effectiveness of the research. Perhaps the two major weakness that resulted in the
hypothesis being disproved are the study was not conducted from the organizational point of view,

  • 2. Essay On Syncope Introduction: Orthostatic symptoms are common in children and adolescents such that 15% experience syncope once in their teenage years.1 A comprehensive history, physical examination, bedside orthostatic testing and an ECG are usually sufficient for diagnosis combined with prevention measures for postural intolerance and reassurance being sufficient in most cases.2 4 Many patients with orthostatic intolerance(OI) have limitations of daily activities with reduced school attendance and impaired quality of life.5 A subset of children with OI may have an underlying disorder (autoimmune condition, mitochondrial insufficiency, diabetes mellitus etc.) and thus diagnosis can be elusive and expensive.6 Syncope is obvious and readily recognized to the extent that patients are frequently evaluated in an emergency room and office setting. Clinical characteristics are described in children with syncope but literature is limited in describing those many patients who present with symptoms other than syncope.7,8 We studied the epidemiological and clinical characteristics of children and adolescents with OI who had autonomic dysfunction based on head up tilt table test (HUTT). Materials and methods From November 2010 to June 2012, we obtained medical records of patients with OI and HUTT. Our institutional review board approved this study. • 3. Antigen And T-Cells 2.A crazy immunology professor, in his wild immunological dreams has suggested that an antigen arriving in a lymphoid tissue is like a bunch of children searching for their parents in a crowd at a football stadium. Immunologically speaking, what does this analogy refer to and what is the consequence of this encounter? Use a concrete and personal example to answer this question. Newly generated lymphocytes, including T cells and B cells, will leave their central lymphoid organs where they developed, and will migrate to the peripheral lymphoid tissues, where some further maturation will occur. Mature lymphocytes continually recirculate between the blood and peripheral lymphoid tissues. Thus, high concentrations of lymphocytes can be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This specificity can relate to a child trying to find its parent in a crowd. The antigen recognition molecules of T cells are made as membrane bound proteins and function to signal T cells for activation. These molecules are called T cell receptors. T cell receptors are similar to antibodies in structure, but they do not recognize and bind to the antigen directly. T cell receptors will recognize short peptide fragments of pathogen protein antigens, that are bound to MHC molecules on the surfaces of other cells. Major histocompatibility complex, or MHC will present fragments derived from antigens and display them on the surface of antigen presenting cells to be recognized by the T cell receptor. The TCR will recognize not only the peptide fragments of the antigen, but will also recognize the MHC molecules which the fragment is bound to, adding another dimension of specificity, relating to the analogy of a child trying to find its parent in a crowd. The consequence of these interactions is an adaptive immune response of antigen specific lymphocytes to the antigen, as well as the development of immunological memory. Adaptive immune responses are generated by clonal selection of lymphocytes, and are distinct from innate responses. The immune response consequence is in result to the antigen 3.Consider this scenario, even if you do not agree with it. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. China Cultural Awareness Book Report Essay China Cultural Awareness Book Report Introduction I chose the book On China by Henry Kissinger to analyze the country I was assigned because it was a fairly new book. On China was written in 2011, information throughout the book was relevant, up to date, and easy to comprehend. Throughout the last few months of Warrant Officer Basic Course we have been introduced to numerous tools that help us during the Targeting process. One of the tools that we utilized was the acronym PMESII PT (political, military, economic, social, information, infrastructure, physical environment, and time.) This acronym is utilized in regards to analyzing a specific operational environment for a given area. The focal point of my analysis of the book On China is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The context in this paper therefore is going to analyze the country progression utilizing the information written in On China. I will analyze the country from the ancient China to the Modern china that has established her through political leaderships and economic stability of the country. Political organization in China Dynasty rise and falls characterized China s ancient political organizations (Kissinger Henry 88). The dynasty era began during the Xia dynasty in around 2100 1600 BC and ended when the Republic of China government was formed in the year 1949. Their political organization was hereditary, hence the name dynasty. This meant that when the king or the emperor died the succession for the throne would occur in the same family line; mainly from father to son. There were some occasions, however, when a non blood relative would assume the leadership positions. Nevertheless, this was in very rare instances. This kind of political organization and ruling to some extent might have promoted unity of the various kingdoms as per the time; although this was not always the case. There are some instances when the country Kingdom split and later merged again through conquests and war. The ancient China was characterized by many dynasties (Kissinger Henry 72). The Xia dynasty was the first. The Shang dynasties succeed the Xia dynasty (1600 1046). Then there was the Zhou Dynasty. It was followed by the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Arabian Nights Argumentative Essay The Arabian Nights is renowned for its multiple uses of enframed narratives. The layering of stories adds new meaning to the various tales of The Arabian Nights by bringing up new questions. In every story one reads, one finds themselves asking why Shahrazad would tell such a story, what kind of message is this tale giving Shahriar, and why bother telling another story within an already enframed story. However, The Arabian Nights is not alone in its use of the enframed story. Works inspired by The Arabian Nights use their own enframing devices in order to alter how one perceives and understands the stories these offshoots have taken from The Arabian Nights. The adaptations this paper will look at include Disney s Aladdin film, Pasolini s Arabian... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The common ransom story does a wonderful job of lateral comparisons by bringing stories with similar motifs, plots, and themes together. The Merchant and The Jinni produces this effect. The story starts with a merchant who accidentally kills a Jinni by throwing a date seed (The Arabian Nights 1: 10 19). The Jinni s father appears declaring that he will kill the merchant. Through a series of events, three groups of travelers show up, and each traveler decides to exchange a third of the merchant s punishment for a story. The travelers introduction starts drawing comparisons between these travelers right away because they are all traveling with animals. As each traveler tells their story, one cannot help drawing more comparisons as each story is about a failed romance which is dealt with in some other way than violence, normally turning the guilty party into an animal (The Arabian Nights 1: 10 19). The repetition of a nonviolent resolution to romantic conflict ends up making a lateral comparison about the nature of conflict resolution. In particular, the stories take on additional meaning as a tool to help Shahriar understand there are a variety of ways to deal with romantic issues that do not involve murdering virgins (The Arabian Nights 1: 3 10). By using enframed stories as a means of comparison, The Arabian Nights adds extra depth and meaning to stories in light of the outer narrative and the surrounding stories in order to produce a far more complex understanding of any one theme or ... • 6. Screwtape Letter Discerning Between Good and Evil Spirits The Screwtape Letters is an inverted approach to Christianity that parallels the ideals in Ignatian spirituality. In a discussion of hell as a means of business, an Uncle, Screwtape, writes letters of psychological insight for his nephew, Wormwood, to coax his subject into turning towards Hell. Though C.S. Lewis writes from the perspective of demons, this organically highlights the truths of Christianity. Screwtape pushes Wormwood to have the patient discover evil in every dimension of his life as the patient begins to become a follower of Christianity. To note, the Christian Godis labeled as the Enemy whereas the Devil is labeled as Our Father Below . In order to turn the subject away... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As Ignatuis sees God present in our daily lives and our creator, so does Screwtape who pushes Wormwood to distort this image. For example, Screwtape advises, keep him praying to it to the thing he has made, not to the Person who has made him (Lewis 18). Screwtape respects God as seen by the capitalization of the word Enemy and wants the patient to focus on the opposite of God s virtues because God s love can prove his existence. The demons must work around God and have their subjects focus on themselves not God. Furthermore, Wormwood has the subject work with God through God s grace which protects subjects from the temptations of the devil. Screwtape goes on to criticize Wormwood s ignorance when Wormwood, allowed [the patient] two real positive Pleasures...[for] when they are wholly His they will be more themselves than ever (64 65). God wants his followers to be wholly him and wholly themselves. It is loving God back when a person is him/herself. Screwtape realizes the faults in letting him act, but the subject only becomes more humble as Wormwood dismisses said advice. The third way in which the spirit works is a vision of love. Screwtape berates the Enemy s philosophy of love that [t]hings are to be many, yet somehow also one (94). God claims to be the Father, the Son, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Courage In Amelia Earhart Courage is the price that Life exacts for granting peace. The soul that knows it not, knows no release from little things. Amelia Earhart. Life is not meant for the meek. It is not meant to be lived in a box or in a comfort zone. As Amelia Earhart so eloquently put it, it takes courage to experience peace in this life. I have had to embody that as I follow my dreams and fight for my goals. My goal is to be a pediatric genetic counselor. To accomplish this goal, I have had to use courage to face adversity, step outside my comfort zone, and strive for what I want. You can t just sit back and wait for what you want. It s not enough to just say you want something and go through the motions. You have to fiercely and actively seek out what you want and prove that you are the best choice. It may not always work out in your favor, but it is better to fail then to never try at all. The soul that knows it not knows no release from the little things: knows not the livid loneliness of fear. Amelia Earhart. When trying to accomplish your goals, not everything will go as planned. Very rarely will you just be handed what you want. When you work for something, sometimes you will fail. You will be told you weren t the best choice or you were good, but just not what they were looking for. And it hurts. It beats you down and steals your confidence. But failure is the best teacher. Failure makes you stronger and builds you up to be the best you can. It can be challenging to try again ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Structure Of Modern Times By Charlie Chaplin Hierarchy in a modern capitalist society can be seen in the form of corporations through the capitalist division of labor. In the essay What do bosses do? The origins and functions of hierarchy in capitalist production , Stephen A. Marglin argues that Adam Smith s capital division of labor was not due to technological efficiency, but rather due to economic superiority created through hierarchy and specialization in the market. Marglin points out the reasons why hierarchy exists, which is to maximize bosses profits, how hierarchical control can result in capitalist instability through mass production, and the impacts of hierarchy on the wellbeing of factoryworkers, as best exemplified in the film Modern Times by Charlie Chaplin.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the first act of Modern Times , the manager commanding the line of workers like Chaplin s character, Little Tramp, to speed up their production by five times exemplifies how bosses control the production out of their best economic interests. Even in the sharecropping system, for example, landowners have the power to choose the type of crops to produce whereas tenants do not. The existence of hierarchy demonstrates the integration role of the bosses in combining separate operations of production process. The specialization and separation of worker task inquires an overlook of the business by a manager. Since each individual worker is assigned and stuck to only a small task of the production process, the bosses undertake the role of providing discipline and supervision to connect those separate tasks together to minimize the costs of production. Consequently, under the longwall system with mechanized separate tasks, the supervision of bosses is responsible for the success of capitalism, not technological superiority. The image of the feeding machine in Modern Times provides a critical example of how advanced machines might not help facilitate the accomplishments of the factory. Thus, some researchers have attributed the prosperity of a corporation to the development and management of work organization by the bosses, whom are the exploiters of the capitalist system. Spielberg s Saving Private Ryan has been credited as being the most accurate war recreation film in history. It is the winner of five Academy Awards including Best Director for Steven Spielberg . Like Jaws, the opening scene has perfect equilibrium, calm at both the beginning and the end. Another thing this opening scene has in common with Jaws is the under water camera, and there are also shots from the killer s point of view in this case, the shooters . In addition to this, they both end with calm water; a common theme in Spielberg s openings. At the beginning of the scene, there is a long shot of a war cemetery; this drives home the seriousness of the war and just how many people died as it is very easy to forget the sheer number of people who were murdered during the war. The extreme close up on the eye of an old Captain Miller (Tom Hanks) gives the audience a feeling of connection with the character and lets them know he is going to have an important role within the film. During the fight scene the camera angles are wild movements and a handheld camera is used to give the effect of a person running as though it is from one of the soldiers point of view as this is likely to be something like what they would have seen and experienced. • 13. Drug Drugs And The New Zealand Party Scene PHARM111G Drugs Society Assignment 2: Legal Highs Pre 2008 Legal Highs were the crux of the New Zealand party scene. Legal highs like Party Pills and Synthetic cannabis have since been reclassified as class C drugs and have been pulled off the shelves of all retailers in New Zealand. Since the psychoactive substances act 2013 there has always been the looming suspicion that the drugs will make their way back onto the shelves, by bending their way around the law or in the underground scene. The 2013 psychoactive substances act states the new legal high drugs must have limited regulation in the form of licensing and pre release human experimentation to test substance effects proving that they are safe or unsafe. Prior to this legal highs were posed as an experimental way to try cull the sale of illicit drugs; but after such drugs as BZP showed their harmful effects, this had to be restricted. (https://en.wikipedia.org /wiki/Psychoactive_Substances_Act_2013) First of all, what are Legal Highs? Legal highs are substances which have chemicals in them that mimic those that are found in illicit drugs, but are safer than illicit drugs. These days this doesn t seem to be the case. • 14. Realism And The Victorian Era So what does one do when said individuals that are of different blood and social statuses fall in love? The Victorian Era was a time where your social status could be construed as directly correlating to whom said individual could socialize with, marry, or have any ties too. Perhaps maybe there weren t three individuals that knew this more than the three of Wuthering Heights Edgar Linton, Catherine Earnshaw, and Heathcliff. The Victorian Era had many elements that could be tied to it but the one that will be the center focus for this paper will be realism. Realism emphasized the middle class and rejected the heroic in favor of the ordinary, focusing on common people and common situations. In realism the middle class was simply feed up with social statuses and not having a voice in society. Another group of people that simply were feed up with the norms of society was that of women. Realism not only focused on the common class as a whole but on the empowerment of women and letting these ladies voices be heard whether it was through writings such as Wuthering Heights. Nevertheless, the Victorian Era was a time in which many would considered was the ultimate turning point for two different group of people as a whole the commoners as well as the women of this era. Edgar Linton was a young man of noble blood that makes the love between Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff very complicated. McDowell explains to readers how Celie assumes that God does not listen to her because she is a poor black woman, and he is a man. She does not have an experience with men being good for her in the past, so she does not have a reason to expect the same from God (167). • 18. A Research Study On Genetic Engineering Genetic engineering is using molecular biology methods to modify the genetic information of an organism. Its aims include learning about the biology of an organism and generating new or improved commercial products. Plant biotechnology is manipulating plants specifically to improve agricultural needs. GMOs or genetically modified organisms are organisms modified by genetic engineering to express desirable traits. DNAfragments containing said desirable traits and a means of introducing the DNA to the host plants is required for genetic engineering. Some common methods of introducing DNA fragments to plants include the use of viruses, chemicals, some means of physical insertion, or the use of agrobacterium. Mysore et al aimed to study the mechanism of Agrobacterium transformation, DNA transfer, and the possible limits of genetic engineering. A complementation test of rat5 mutant and Histone H2A (RAT5) showed rat5 mutant is responsible for the mutant phenotype. Transient and stable ОІ glucuronidase expression and T DNA levels of wild type and rat5 Arabidopsis plants showed that the rat5 mutant is deficient in T DNA integration. The researchers also thought rat5 could be haploinsufficient and to test this hypothesis they transformed wild type plants with A. tumefaciens GV3101(pE1553) and found the rat5 mutant does not show dominance in WT plants.1 So, two copies of RAT5 geneare necessary to conduct Agrobacterium mediated transformation. • 20. The Normative View Of Christianity Christianity is a widespread religion that reaches many different cultures and places all around the world. Since it is such a widespread religion there are many types of interpretations that can be developed based off the words and teachings of the Bible. Most commonly we have the normative view of Christianity. The normative view can most basically be understood as the highly shared teachings of churches. Another type of interpretation that encompasses all beliefs that are not compliant with the normative view is called esoteric. Here we will compare the interpretations of Daskalos, the Great Teacher of Cypress, and his Researchers of Truth against the normative view of Christianity as understood by both Catholics and Protestants. In order to further investigate the differences between Daskalos esoteric beliefs and normative beliefs we must understand fully what esoteric and normative truly mean. A few beliefs of normative Christianity, as explained by Moreman, are as follows: the belief in judgement after death. There are only 2 places to go, hellor heavenand that may or may not be after a slight stop in purgatory, the intermediate state of being right after death where souls await resurrection (Moreman, 62). When the resurrection happens, people will be resurrected in their physical bodies, thanks to interpretations by St. Augustine of Hippo (Moreman, 62). Those souls or people that are evil will spend eternity in hell in fiery damnation (Moreman, 63). The beliefs of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Soviet Union had limited range missiles that were only capable of being launched against Europe, but the United States possessed missiles that were capable of striking anywhere within the entire Soviet Union. As it is often said, when it comes to national security, leaders sometimes make irrational decisions. In an effort to restore the balance of power Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchevdevised the idea of placing intermediate range missiles in Cuba (14 days in October). This added burden further magnified the differences in thinking, feeling and behaving between the two countries. The table above illustrates the national style in negotiation faced by the United States and Soviet Union. Both the Americans and Soviets had to take into account each other style to eventually reach an agreement. Even though Cuba was at the center of this debate, it played a minor roll in the negotiations between the US and Soviet Union. This national style of negotiation may have contributed to the crisis through the actions or lack of actions perceived by the Soviets. Tigers in the real world today are the biggest killing/hunting machines, and they never let anything get in their way. Tigers want all the power. Blake explains What immortal hand or eye, could frame thy fearful symmetry? . He uses the word fearful in that sentence to describe the tigers face. He also used the word could in the quote above, but also restates the statement using dare instead of could. Blake is trying to get at how could someone make something so destructive and demanding. Blake uses fire to describe the tiger several times. For example, In what distant deeps or skies burnt the fire of thine eyes. Blake s uses fire to describe the tiger because they share similar qualities, such as being deadly and harmful to many living things. • 24. Eminent Domain Purposes 1.When does a taking occur for eminent domain purposes? Refer to the Lucas case. Eminent domain refers to the inherent power of the state to take or seize the private property of its individual citizens. Property taken through eminent domain is mainly set aside for the development of public utilities or assigned to a third party who is then supposed to use it for the general good of the public (Larson, 2004). There are generally four types of takings employed by the state through eminent domain. These are: a.Complete Taking This is where the state seizes an entire propertyin for public use. In the case of Lucas v. South Carolina Coastal Council (1992), the plaintiff was entitled to compensation as a result of the complete taking of his land. However the Supreme Court denied him any compensation stating that the restriction imposed on the use of the land was in the interest of the general public due to the intended use of the land. Therefore the Takings Clause does not apply in this case in spite of the economic benefits lost incurred as a result of the complete taking of his property. b.Partial Taking The state in this case takes a portion of a particular property mainly for the expansion of the existing utilities. The owner of the property is liable for compensation in regard to the piece of land seized and any resulting decline in the value of the remaining property. c.Temporary Taking The government may require a piece of land to be used as a site when ... • 38. Media And Gender Roles In The Media At a young age, children begin to comprehend gender roles, which are a set of societal norms that determine what is considered acceptable, desirable and appropriate based on an individual s sex. We obtain these gender associated roles from various places and one dominant source with direct influence is the media. Media plays a critical role in influencing genderroles through impacting the career choices we make, the behavioral patterns we implement in our lives and the sexual stereotypes we have been conditioned to accept. In the first place, society has grown to associate certain occupations with a particular gender. One reason this occurs is as a result of mass media displaying a certain gender occupying a particular job position more than the other genders. Females are often displayed on television, magazines and internet sources as occupying positions such as housewives, nurses, receptionists and teachers. On the other hand, males are portrayed in roles such as the family s breadwinner, doctors and principles. For example, in the show I Love Lucy , Lucy is a housewife looking to escape her domesticated lifestyle. In the process of doing so her ventures quickly turn to antics, leaving husband Ricky, who is the family s breadwinner, to correct the mess she creates (Rosie 357). Similarly, in another show called Our Miss Brooks , Miss Brooks is a teacher who battles with a bossy school principal, Mr. Conklin. These two sitcoms present females in positions with less ... I got on the bike and pushed off. That day I fell several times, but I was not going to give in to failure. I wanted to prove that I could do anything that my older siblings could do. Finally, I got back up to the top of the hill, pushed off, pedaled, and I was riding my bike all by myself. Tris joins the fearless Dauntless faction in order to hide her divergence from normal human tendencies, but she must also make it through her Dauntless initiation. One example of Tris showing pride by taking risks is when Tris volunteers to jump off a building first. I am proud. It will get me into trouble someday, but today it makes me brave...I don t think. I just bend my knees and jump (Roth 57 58). Tris knows that she is proud, and she understands that pride can be both beneficial and dangerous. In the situation of jumping of a tall building, her pride is a positive trait that makes her brave enough to take risks and prove herself worthy of being part of Dauntless when she doubts herself. Another example of Tris s pride is when she takes the responsibility of saving the factions. She explains, The best I can hope for is to destroy the simulation before someone kills me.
