American Exceptionalism Research Paper
The topic of American Exceptionalism is a very contentious one. Over the past several years, news
pundits have brought up the subject repeatedly and some on both the right and the left frequently
use it as a litmus test for ideological purity. Generally speaking, there are two lines of thought that
dominate the discussion of this topic.
One line of thought holds that American Exceptionalism is very real and has had a profound
impact on the United States. There are two related threads involved in this argument. First is the
idea that because the United States was created as, what one might call, the first new nation,
emerging out of an explosive revolutionary event that severed all connections between America and
Europe. Under these circumstances,

The Contribution Of David Gates
David gates is an aviator, nurse, computer specialist, he uses these skills as a medical missionary
in South America. Previously he used his nursing skills along with his skills in aviation as an
entering wedge into many countries where they were reluctant to allow Christians and as a result
the places were much more open for church work. After coming back form the missionfield, he
started a mission foundation, Gospel Missions International. His life is one of continual service
and he used his skills to change many peoples lives, not only on the physical level but also on the
spiritual level. His testimony has influenced my life ever since I was a child. And his experiences
of combining medical ministry with aviation has inspired me to... Show more content on

All through his life, David Gates didn t stop being a missionary. He now uses his testimony to
inspire others through speaking and through his book to follow in his footsteps and to become
missionaries. He also started a ministry that trains people who have a desire to one day become a
medical missionary, thus ensuring that this work does not end. David Gates has inspired countless
people to become a missionary. But he didn t just stop at inspiring them. He also started a mission
foundation called Global Missions International. His foundation helps dreams become realities for
many missionaries. Through Gospel Missions International, he is supporting people like DJ and
Jodi Knott, and Herman and Saray Gonzalez and others who are working in South America as
missionary pilot nurses. They are changing the world one person at a time and many times
beginning with the physical needs of the people.
From research, it didn t appear that David Gates had any direct influence on Adventist nursing, but
he did use nursing to open the door in many countries for Adventists to be able to witness. And
now, through his ministry, he is still is able to send missionaries to other countries that previously
would not have been open for them had it not been for medical missionary work. Today GMI
directs and supports medical aviation programs in Guyana, Venezuela, Bolivia, and Norway,

Similarities And Differences Between Dancing With Wolves...
For this paper I will be comparing Avatar (2009) and Dancing with Wolves (1990) which are two
very acclaimed movies that in a sense are very similar to each other but at the same time do not
share the same themes or story line. Avatar, which is Fantasy/Science fiction movie directed by
James Cameron released on December 18, 2009 being the world s highest grossing film of all
time and is one of the most prosperous movies of the last few years. It has been nominated for
nine Academy Awards and has won three of them. Dancing with Wolves that in the other hand is
an Epic Western/Drama movie released on November 21, 1990 and directed by Kevin Costner.
The first thing that could be very noticeable between these movies is how far apart each movie
was released away from each other, almost a 20 year difference between the releases date. I
believe that these two movies have a lot of common and resemble each other in many ways that
could even imagine. In both movies the protagonists are very similar to each other. But also, some
of the themes and aspects that these movies share are: main characters falling in love, protagonist
being introduced to a new civilization and how both protagonists are leading a battle against a
different tribe.
Avatar is a live action film about a human colony that has been established on a distant planet called
Pandora. The humans are going after an uncommon mineral that could settle an ecological crisis

The Cause And Effects Of Global Warming
Global warming is the long term trend in the increase of Earth s average surface temperature due to
effect of greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide emissions from burning fossil fuels or from
deforestation, which trap heat that would otherwise escape from Earth. This entrapment of
greenhouse gases is what is causing average temperatures around the world to rise. Global Warming
is responsible for the increase in natural disasters, because since the global climate has been
continuously increasing over the years it has increased the chances for natural disasters to occur
around the world. There are many causes for global warming; the increase in carbon dioxideis the
leading major cause. Article 1 states, CO2 absorbs heat reflected from the Earths surface heat that
would otherwise pass freely into space. The CO2 then releases that heat, warming the Earth s
atmosphere. As CO2 levels increase, the pace of warming accelerates. Satellite measurements
confirm that less heat is escaping the atmosphere today than 40 years ago. Though other heat
trapping gases also play a role, CO2 is the primary contributor to global warming. (ucsusa.org
art.1) The increase in carbon dioxide gases has caused the global surface temperatures to increase,
by the gases trapping the extra heat inside of earth that are meant to escape and leave earth.
However, while carbon dioxide is what is causing global warming, with it increasing the global
surface temperature, humans is what is causing the

The Josephine Baker Story Essay
Josephine Baker was born Freda Josephine Carson in St. Louis, Missouri, on June
3, 1906 to washerwoman, Carrie McDonald, and vaudeville drummer, Eddie Carson.
Josephine s father abandoned them shortly after her birth and her mother married a kind but
perpetually unemployed man named Arthur Martin. Their family came to include a son and two
more daughters. Josephine grew up cleaning houses and babysitting for wealthy white families
until she got a job waitressing at The Old Chauffeur s Club when she was 13 years old. While
working there she met a man named Willie Wells whom she had a short marriage with. Josephine
never depended on a man for financial support and she never hesitated to leave when a relationship
hit its breaking point. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Josephine battled two other women for the title of the most photographed woman in the world,
and by 1927 she earned more than any entertainer in Europe. She starred in two movies in the
early 1930s and moved her family from St. Louis to Les Milandes, her estate in Castelnaud
Fayrac, France. A 1936 return to the United States to star in the Ziegfield Follies proved
disastrous, despite the fact that she was a major celebrity in Europe. American audiences
rejected the idea of a black woman with so much sophistication and power. Newspaper reviews
were equally cruel (The New York Times called her a quot;Negro wench quot;), and Josephine
returned to Europe heartbroken. She served France during World War II in many ways. She
performed for the troops, and was an honorable correspondent for the French Resistance
(undercover work included smuggling secret messages written on her music sheetsin invisible
ink) and a sub lieutenant in the Women s Auxiliary Air Force. She was awarded the Medal of the
Resistance and awarded into the Legion of Honor by the French government for hard work and
dedication. Josephine visited the United States again during the 50s and 60s with renewed vigor
to fight racism. When New York s popular Stork Club refused her service she engaged a head on
media battle with pro segregation columnist Walter Winchell. The NAACP named May 20
Josephine Baker Day in honor of her efforts. During this time she began adopting children, forming

7. In the attack, what did the machine gun do to the glory of the war and individual heroism?
By using a machine gun, many men could be killed in one time. So the machine gun was stronger
than the individual soldier. Since the Allies outgunned the Axis in artilleryand machinery, the
German soldiers took refuge in trenches that were no match for the kind of warfare waged. This
made soldiers feel impotent. New recruits quickly learn about reality in warfare. In World War I, it
was rare when an individual was a hero.
8. How many of the company died in this first battle? How do you know? Why were they able to
eat so well finally?

Operant Behavior Analysis
This article defined the main accounts of antecedent processes in operant behavior, it presented a
theoretical review of applied research on antecedent events in behavior disorders, and lastly it
recognized some promising areas for upcoming studies. The article talks about three theorists and
their theories. These theorists include Skinner, Kantor, and Michael. Skinner is known for his
reinforcement theory, however, he had writings of the environmental settings under which behavior
may occur. Differential reinforcement of responding in the presence of discriminative stimuli is
how Skinner believed stimulus control over behavior is developed. Discrimination describes a
certain functional relationship between antecedent events, behavior, and consequences that
deliveries to a variety of circumstances. With this said, variables that are separate from the
accessibility of reinforcement may also affect the probability that behavior will happen. Skinner
offered several processes to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kantor presented a theoretical system that accounted for complexities in human behavior. Kantor
proclaimed that the normal methods of behavior analysis could not cover to complex human
behavior. He disapproved of behavior analysts for not searching intensely enough into the nature of
stimuli. Kantor proposed an alternative system, but it is also unfinished pending more extensive
analysis of functional relationships. Michael has provided the clearest and most detailed
articulation of the term establishing operation. Establishing operation (EO) temporarily adjusts the
reinforcing effectiveness of some other object or event, and it can either increase or decrease the
effectiveness of a given form of reinforcement. The article includes the assessment of antecedents.
Talks about approaches such as identifying and cataloging the range of environmental conditions
that are connected with unwelcome behaviors in the natural environment is a way to evaluate

Disruption Presents As A Dramatic Stage Play
DISRUPTION presents as a dramatic stage play that is driven by strong themes about control,
power, healing, trauma, life choices, responsibility, and inner demons.
There s one location setting and a contained cast of four, appropriate for a stage play. The structure
is divided into two acts. The play immediately jumps into the storyline. The actionable goal for
Will is clear. However, the story is driven more by the emotional inner conflict or demon of each
character.
As mentioned, the story covers several relevant topics. The tone is consistently dramatic, with some
hints of humor.
While there s a lot to like about the play, the play would benefit from more development, especially
in the first act or first half.
The first half of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, most of the play can include the three of them. Finding a way to get them stuck inside can
help elevate the tension because they can t leave.
Consider tightening and narrowing down some of the dialogue and topics. Focus on the ones that
generate the most conflict. The story gets so much more exciting when Ed begins to accuse Will of
using them and raping Pam.
The ending with the murder is tragic and a bit distressing. It may not be an ending that feels
satisfying. In fact, the ending feels a bit abrupt. One doesn t have a strong emotional response with
the current conclusion of Will s death and Pamela s phone call.
An alternative is to have Will decide to try and kill himself (like his father). He has been in
denial of his father s suicide and it seems that it would be poetic justice if he decided to take his
own life. In addition, perhaps Ed encourages this (which would create tension), but Pamela tries to
talk him out of killing himself. It s still going to be challenging to have him die, so reconsider this.
The characters are complex and each one is struggling with their own demons. They are the type of
complex characters that can attract talent.
Will is will crafted as an egotistical businessman. His voice reflects his values and his personality.
He seeks power and control. He s corrupt and immoral. He has strong inner conflict about his father.
He uses people, although he might not have insight that he uses them. He really seems to believe

General Electric s Corporate Social Responsability
I chose to look into General Electric for this project because they are an energy supplier and
multi national company. Energy providers have a reputation as a money hungry companies that
care about the bottom line more than people and the planet. It is easy for a person to assume that
a corporation of GE s size, money would be its only concern. What I learned was that GE has a
public image problem more than a Corporate Social Responsibility(CSR) problem. The company
has been working to make the people of the planet more Earth friendly by creating technology that
has higher efficiency with fewer emissions and lower resource demands. GE has a well established
strategy for Corporate Social Responsibility. As a result of CSR the company... Show more content

CSR lacks universal methods. The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO)
mentions that it is important to draw a distinction between CSR as part of strategic business
management concept and charity, sponsorships or philanthropy. The latter applications make
valuable social impacts that enhance the reputations of the companies, however, CSR is a continual
effort instead of an instance. A few features that CSR should focus on are: eco efficiency, employee
and community relations, environmental management, gender balance, responsible souring, anti
corruption, stakeholder engagement and human rights. Utilizing some of these key features a
company can bring competitive advantages into the market place. Increased sales and profits from
operational cost savings as well as improved reputation and brand image and customer loyalty can
result from a well defined CSR strategy.

The Effects Of Overpopulation On The Environment
The current world s population is estimated at approximately six billion people in the world and
even this number can be inaccurate. According to Sernau (2012), what is harder to estimate are the
effects that this growth and change will have on our planet. When looking at overpopulation and
the effects on the environment, we look at the overpopulationin cities and countries across the
nation. Many economic problems in our society place an impact on our environment from
overpopulation come from the overuse of resources, lack of resources, and pollution. There are
many solutions to this problem but the common factor is humans have to put controls in place and
take care of the environment, so the required resources do not become extinct.
Human population growth is a major contributor to global warming, given that more people means
more resources. When reading an article on population growth on climate change (Scientific
American, 2017), it reports that many population experts believe the answer lies in improving the
health of women and children in developing nations. By reducing poverty and infant mortality,
increasing women s and girls access to basic human rights (health care, education, economic
opportunity), educating women about birth control options and ensuring access to voluntary family
planning services, women will choose to limit family size (Scientific American, 2017). The birth
rate continues to be a big factor in overpopulation as reducing the family size and

The cerebrum is situated at the back of the brain. The cerebrum is divided into two cerebral
hemispheres, left and right. It consists of the corpus, callosm, and nerve fibers. The left and right
hemispheres communicate with each other. The brain stem connects the brain to the spinal cord
(Lu Bludua, 2011), which regulates the body. The cerebellum is positioned beneath the cerebrum. It
manages a person s equilibrium and coordination.
According to Lu and Bludua, the outer layer of the cerebral hemisphere is called the cerebral cortex,
which is the outer layer of the brain. Under the cortex is the limbic system, which consists of the
amygdala, hippocampus, thalamus, and hypothalamus. In the temporal lobe, the amygdale purpose
is to store and process strong feeling such as fear. Behind the amygdala is the hippocampus, which
channels making memories and learning into short term memory. Then short term memory
converts into long term memory. On the top of the brain stem is the thalamus. The thalamus is the
central processing center of the limbic system (Lu Bludau, 2011) which accumulates, processes, and
distributes limbic and sensory information to the cerebral cortex. Beneath the thalamus is the
hypothalamus. The hypothalamus maintains homeostasis and the body s equilibrium. To keep the

depression or anxiety; it is a way for them to cope with stress. Self harm is not considered to be
its own mental health condition and doctors believe it is to be caused by depression and/or other
mental health illnesses such as obsessive compulsive disorder. Many things can cause someone
to self harm such as self anger, self hatred, cope with negative feelings, and to even just feel
better (Canadian Mental Health Association). Although those who hurt themselves do not want
to end their lives, it can be a sign of a suicidal attempt in the future. It is hard to tell if some self

Signal Soldiers Must Be Adept At Operating Complex Signal...
Introduction
Signal Soldiers must be adept at operating complex signal systems and integrating progressive
technologies into the U. S. Army network. They must support multiple combat platforms from the
Infantry to Field Artillery and everything in between.
The rapid advancement of information technologies and a network centric force have transformed
the Army s warfighting capabilities. They have also impacted the Signal Corps ability to create
Soldiers who are capable of keeping pace. It must now rethink the process of how it is accesses,
trains, and sustains the Signal Soldier of the future. Since the war on terror, technological
developments in the signal realm have been numerous and far reaching. The Army network and
supported information technology (both hardware and software) provided by the Corps are an
integral part of warfighting capabilities and combat multipliers. Commanders and warfighters rely
on the knowledge and skills of the signal Soldiers to provide and implement these technologies to
meet their operational needs.
They expect the signal Soldier to be capable of establishing and maintaining communications in any
environment, to support any mission, independently or as a member of a team. They must be the
subject matter expert in their chosen profession. It is imperative that today s Soldier seamlessly

strategic plan is successfully implemented (Lee Jones, 2004). Financial Resources For many years
now, healthcare organizations in Canada have faced financial challenges as a result of lower
healthcare spending and increased expenses (Canadian Institute for Health Information, 2014,
para.1). Therefore, before the introduction of any new initiative, the nurse leader must ensure the
change does not bring any financial hardship to the organization and resources are used in a cost
effective manner (Marquis Huston, 2015). For this planned change, there is no financial cost with
revising the role and responsibilities of all the Nurse Clinicians and the existing budget is the
financial resource that will cover the cost of adding another Nurse Clinician The largest financial
aspect of this planned change is the salary of the new Nurse Clinician. In this case, when creating
another role the nurse manager has to ensure the change will be cost neutral to the organization,
meaning the addition of one Nurse Clinician will have no impact on the overall budget. To
accomplish this, the nurse manager responsible for the Clinicians explained that when the unit
assessors were doing the MDS, every unit in

Try to construct this histogram so it is roughly the same width and height as the histogram for the
Indigenous population. You will need to rescale the y axis.
b) Which age group contains the most number of non Indigenous people?
65 years and older contained the most non Indigenous people, with 2,828,185 people.
c) Describe the shape of the histogram. Is it symmetrical or skewed? The histogram is a plateau
and is close to symmetrical; it is flat, with a distinct right tail, which can be ruled as an outlier.
This means the population across all ages is relatively similar, with the exception of the 65+ age
group. This is likely due to the fact that there are more possible ages within the 65+ age group than
the other age groups.
Comparisons
a) Explain the main differences in the shapes of the two histograms. In the Indigenous histogram,
there is a distinct decrease in population as age increases, thus there is a right skew, whereas the
non Indigenous histogram shows no correlation between age and population, except for the 65+
age group, thus the histogram is flat with a right tail.
b) What do the histograms tell you about the age of Indigenous and non Indigenous people in
Australia in 2011? The Indigenous histogram shows that there is a significant reduction in
population as age increases, thus there is a negative correlation. The non Indigenous histogram
suggests that age has very little influence on

Prejudice In Australian Society Essay
As Australians we live in an abundantly multicultural society. Walk out into a public area and
you ll be surrounded by faces all from a vast array of many different ethnic backgrounds. It is
perceived by many of us that Australia as a nation is fairly accepting of racial difference and
people from other backgrounds. But much of the evidence seated clearly before us points to an
entirely different consensus. As human beings not one of us is born with prejudice or hate in our
hearts. These values are taught to us by our upbringing and experiences within the society we live
in. Hate and prejudices are instilled upon us by what we are accustomed to and our experience, but
most often, what we are told. And the grueling truth in todays society is that the single most
abundantly influential source of our knowledge and understanding of the world; the media; is the

I have little doubt that the vast majority of the Australian public does retain invariably good
intentions when it comes to the moral issue of discrimination; but sometimes, just to mean well just
doesn t cut it. Racist attitudes and beliefs are misconceptions about people based on perceived
racial lines and are often founded on the fear of difference, including differences in customs, values,
religion, physical appearance and ways of living and viewing the world. This includes negative
attitudes towards the use of different languages, foreign accents or the use of non standard
variations of a dominant community language. An explicit attitude is an attitude that the person can

Installing An Ide Disk On A Linux System
The purpose of this document is to detail the various steps needed to install, make ready, and
mount an IDE disk on a Linux system. The process starts first with the cabling and physical
installation of the disk. Next it is key to ensure the computer s BIOS is properly configured to
allow access to the drive. Once the machine can see the physical drive the next step is to prepare
the drive to accept data by partitioning the drive for the desired disk layout. Finally, the drive is
mounted within the filesystem hierarchy so it may be accessed by the end user. Installing the
Drive The first step in this process is the physical installation of the drive. While the process of
installing an IDE drive is more involved than a SATA drive it is still easily accomplished if a
few precautious are followed. The first step is to configure the jumper on the back of the IDE
drive. Refer to the sticker on the drive itself or the manufacturer data sheet to identify the correct
jumper position. Move the jumper on the back of the drive to the master position. There may be a
CS or CSEL which stands for Cable Select. This should allow the computer to make the assignment
based on cable position however this requires a special IDE cable (Chukov, n.d.). Simply setting the
jumper itself is a simpler and delivers more consistent results. The second step is to identify the IDE
headers on the computer motherboard with the help of the computer or motherboard manual.

Women s Role Of Women In The Victorian Era
Victorian Era was an era in which women had endless predicaments in their lives. Women had
restriction, such as: what subjects they should study, they were not allowed to vote, they were
not grand their fortune after marriage, she should not leave the domestic sphere, and who
should be submissive. The role model for this concept was Queen Victoria herself, who, together
with her husband, Albert, had nine children and embodied the perfect family. She was even
described as the mother of the nation (BBC, Web). As I strongly disagree with the women s
treatment back then, I want to celebrate in this essay woman who, even a little bit broke the
constraints and enjoyed their lives in a period of oppressions. The beginning of this new women
era, in which women asked to be heard, started with Sunday Schools, in which the majority of
volunteers were women, so they begin to go out and interact with other people. The ones that are
to be blamed for the women s situation in Victorian Period are the women themselves, as Sarah
Grand explains in her The New Aspect of the Woman Question: We have allowed him to arrange
the whole social system...Man deprived us of all proper education, and then jeered at us because
we had no knowledge. He narrowed our outlook on life so that our view of it should be all

Existentialism, By Albert Camus, Raymond Carvers, Short...
After all, the Choice is Yours
Existentialism is a humanism, sure, if one were so inclined, since after all it is ones choice to
choose if they are a true existentialist. Any and all human philosophies can be used as a guide to
ones path in life in their own morality, however, until it becomes inconvenient then it is tolerable to
deviate off ones path to make it work for themselves. The basic foundation of existentialism is,
existence precedes essence and there can be no human nature if this is ones belief, as Descartes
puts it, in a sense; I think therefore I am . These traits and actions are portrayed throughout the
stories of Albert Camus, The Stanger, Raymond Carvers, Short Cuts and Woody Allen s movie,
Crimes and Misdemeanors. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Meursault mirrors Sartre s description of existentialism in his absurd view of the world and life
in general, by demonstrating that nothing really matters, since everyone must live and die, what
we do in between is irrelevant. The paramount description relating to Sartre s existentialism and
Camus portrayal of such justification, is when Marie asked if she could marry Meursault and
his reply was, I said it didn t make any difference to me and that we could if she wanted to .
Therefore, he dons the choice onto Marie, however the true insignificance to Marie s proposal is
what is being upheld in his decision. Sartre states You are free, therefore choose that is to say,
invent. No rule of general morality can show you what you ought to do: no signs are vouchsafed
in this world . In other words, Meursault s negligible response of insignificance and
purposelessness is his choice and his expression of not caring regardless, but if she wanted to get
married it was tolerable with him, may sound as a justification, and however becomes Meursault s
right choice. In abstract; David Drake states, in his article, Sartre: Intellectual of the Twentieth
Century that, I feel no solidarity with anything, not even myself: I do not need anybody or
anything (32). Meursault was content with his life, whether the rest of the world approved was a
non factor for him. After all, the choice was his.

Healthcare Comparison of the Usa and Nigeria
Four Main Differences between the healthcare systems in Nigeria and the USA.

had the opportunity to relocate to the United States of America to live with my Dad while pursuing
a career in Nursing. On getting to the United States of America or the USA as it is commonly
called, I discovered how lovely and different the country really is. The USA was a lot different
from what I had heard from stories back home in Nigeria. The previous three years, since January
2009 to be precise, has provided me first hand experience of some major differences between my

The buses run on a strict schedule most of the time; many are spaced out between every thirty
minutes to an hour. An alternative to riding the bus was catching a cab which was expensive.
This transportation process is very different from Nigeria where there is always a bus or taxi
running by the streets looking for passengers to pick up, most transporting up to four different and
unrelated passengers at the same time. Often the maximum amount of time a person would have
wait to catch either a cab or bus is five minutes. Nigerian cabs usually have a fixed price form one
stop to another, and most of the time prices can be bargained down.
Thirdly, the other major difference in between the United States of America differs from Nigeria is
the Climate. In United States of America there are four seasons in a year namely fall, summer,
spring and winter. Winter starts from December through February, and then comes spring which
starts from March through May, followed by summer from June through august and finally fall
/ autumn which start from September through November. While in Nigeria we have just two
season comprising of the raining and dry season (harmattan). The raining season usually begins
around February or march and last till around September. In September the dry season kick in and
last through January. It snows in United States of America while there has never been a record of
snow in Nigeria.

The Association Between Primary And Secondary Psychopathy...
This study used a correlation design to investigate the association between primary and secondary
psychopathy and cognitive empathy. 452 first year psychology students completed Levenson, Kiehl
and Fitzpatrick s (1995) Levenson self report Psychopathy scale (LSRP) and Baron Cohen,
Wheelwright, Hill, Raste and Plumb s (2001) Reading the Mind in the Eyes Test (RMET). A
significant negative correlation was found between primary psychopathyand empathy while the
correlation for secondary psychopathy and empathy was insignificant. From this it can be
concluded that primary psychopaths are worse at empathising than secondary psychopaths.
Association between Primary and Secondary Psychopathy and Cognitive Empathy
Psychopathy is a disorder which can be split into two subtypes, primary and secondary. Primary
psychopathy is typified by callous, manipulative, selfish and untruthful behaviour (Karpman, 1948,
as cited in Levenson, Kiehl Fitzpatrick, 1995). Secondary psychopathy is associated with anxiety,
introversion, low self esteem and moodiness (Blackburn Fawcett, 1999 as cited by Ali Chamorro
Premuzic, 2010). Cognitive empathy is described as the being able to understand and infer
emotions of others (Joliffee Farrington, 2004 as cited by Ali Chamorro Premuzic). Understanding
the association between Psychopathy and Empathy is an area of interest as it provides insight on
how to effectively rehabilitate psychopaths; if they are showing the

The Invisible Coin Introduction Summary Essay
The Invisible Coin Introduction summary: Since its insertion into the mainstream world,
Bitcoin, a virtual decentralized currency, has fully fledged in both its status and in its use.
Despite this, there still endures a relative lack of economic exploration in academia about this
innovative economic phenomenon. Bitcoin is an online currency that does not require a bank
account, credit card or any personal information. Bitcoin stays clear of the roads that are most
travelled ; the catch though is you re no longer backed by any government. Bitcoin doesn t have
a central bank or a countries leadership vouching for its authenticity. Bitcoin is unique; Bitcoin
is the opposite of what we normally would think of a currency, so maybe that s why it took some
time for it to lift up in the early stages. Nobel Prize winner Milton Friedman in 1999 once spoke
out and said, The one thing that s missing, but will soon be developed, is a reliable e cash . So
Friedman was ahead of everyone else seeing this as a development for the world market. The
beginning of Bitcoin is not exactly easy to fully document because the so called creator is
known to have an alias name. That name first arose in 2008 in a paper published via online with
the name of Satoshi Nakamoto . That paper was titled Bitcoin, a Peer to Peer Electronic Cash
System . November 2008 was the early stages of the great financial crisis. So pre financial crisis,
maybe the interest for Bitcoin was not noticed right away. But

Myth Of The Empty Land By Robert P. Carroll
Myth of the Empty Land:
The myth of the empty land is a widespread debate between biblical critics; the concerns of this
debate lays within the construction of Judean territory during and after the destruction of Jerusalem
leading to their (Babylonian) exile (586 538 BCE). The understanding of the empty land refers to
the land left behind by its people, where the myth therein refers to the interpretation of certain texts
and their beliefs of what the land of Israel was like during their exile. The works of Robert P.
Carroll will be used as the primary basis of this interpretation.

To achieve this, I will attend swiftly to the major difference pertaining the myth of the empty land;

The Empty Land of Chronicles and Leviticus:
Under the reign of Nebuchadnezzar, the destruction of Jerusalem took place as a result of the
people s pollution of YHWH S holy sanctuary (Carroll,1992:80) with the destruction of
Jerusalem, the exilic period began. The biblical texts that Carroll use to argue the emptiness of
the land is that of 2 Chronicle 36:17 21 and Leviticus 26:27 39, by making specific reference to
the following verses it is evident that according to these narratives the land was left desolated;
2 Chr 36:19 21 19Then his army burned the Temple of God, tore down the walls of Jerusalem,
burned all the palaces, and completely destroyed everything of value. 20The few who survived
were taken as exiles to Babylon, and they became servants to the king and his sons until the
kingdom of Persia came to power. 21So the message of the Lord spoken through Jeremiah was
fulfilled. The land finally enjoyed its Sabbath rest, lying desolate until the seventy years were
fulfilled, just as the prophet had said.

Sage In Ojibwe Essay
Sage has been a part of Ojibwe culture for thousands of years. Sage is one the four main
medicines in Ojibwe culture along with tobacco, cedar, and sweet grass. In most Ojibwe
ceremonies, sage is used in the beginning of the ceremony to smudge the people attending the

the sage cleanses what is touched. Sage cleanses the ears so we can hear all things in a good way.
It cleanses out the mind so we can think good things with nothing negative. Traditionally, sage is

Analysis Of Wilfred Owen s The Soldier On The Front Line
Wilfred Owen a soldier on the front line in World war one who composes his emotions and
experiences on the battlefield into poetry. He in his writing shines a light on suffering of the
soldiers in the unpleasant environment. The poem, Dulce et decorum est starts off with giving
us an upsetting image of the troops and their conditions. They are described as Bent double, like
old beggars under sacks . Use of simile in the first line of the poem compares young men to old
beggars and reminds us of how helpless they were. Their expectations of their appearance in
clean uniforms and excitement of the war, as suggested by the propaganda, were shattered.
Distorted by the conflict, these soldiers once strong and healthy had no strength left in them.
Being labelled old beggars indicates they had nothing to live for and were in a wait to get out of
misery. Furthermore, the description of the soldiers and their unlikely comparisons in similes
does not improve. Owen writes Knock kneed, coughing like hags which suggests that the health
of these men or hags as they were being called was extremely challenged and illnesses were
taking over them. This is very effective as it shows how the men were aged and coughing like
witches. Being compared to hags which would have been very powerful back in the days meant
they were no less than women. Women at the time were considered very weak with not many
rights. They were restricted to certain jobs. Soldiers on the front line

Economic Integration Is Defined As An Economic Adjustment
Economic integration is defined as an economic disposition between different divisions that are
associated together through the synchronisation of fiscal and monetary policies as well as the
reduction or elimination of barriers to entry for trading. The sole aims of economic integration are
to succour both consumers and producers, by minimising costs, and also to maximise trade between
the countries which are involved.
In total, there are 8 stages in the economic integration operation, starting from a highly loose
alliance of countries in a preferential trade area, to a completely economically integrated coalition,
whereby all the economies of the member countries in the union are thoroughly integrated. The first

The EU is also a politico economic union comprising of 28 different countries as of 2013 that are

The United Kingdom has long been a part of European Union, since 1973, and the European Union
membership has always had a strong influence on the United Kingdom s economy in numerous
ways. The effects which are most important emerges through a programme of economic
integration in which EU s four freedoms the freedom of movement of goods, services, capital
and people are reassured, known as the Single Market. The impact of EU s membership to the UK
is not only felt in the economic sector, but can also be felt in the areas of its policies too.
First and foremost, the most fundamental economic benefit that the United Kingdom experiences
would be the positive effect of free movement of goods and services across and between European
countries. The free movement of their goods and services should be able to prompt and increase
its trade, with the barriers of entry being stripped away. Theoretically, all Member States in the
European Union are able to benefit from this because it grants them the opportunity to specialise in
those goods and services that they are proportionately more coherent at producing.
Furthermore, domestic producers

This line illustrates that the speaker has no control over his current circumstances, as the clutch, or

The Latest Major Dota 2 Tournament On Mainstream...
The latest major Dota 2 tournament was met with a huge reception and the largest prize pool in
e sports history to date. For the developers Valve, the tournament was a huge success and another
stepping stone in e sports rapid rise towards mainstream popularity and acceptance. However
Valve also made another and no less profound statement of intent with the tournament that marks
them as a distinctive force in the e sports and wider gaming industry and that is one of
emphasising the generative power of play. This statement of intent became clear after a
controversial incident occurred with the Ukrainian team Natus Vincere who employed a
strategy that many considered to be a bug , glitch or exploit , or at least, certainly to an outsiders
view. The strategy in question was the now infamous fountain hook Pudge / Chen combination
that utilises a unique ability of the two champions (Pudges Meat Hook and Chens Test of Faith )
to create an effectively unstoppable move that pulls an enemy hero into the certain death of the
base fountain if executed correctly. The if word is key here. This was an extremely hard
combination to successfully employ that not only relies on a perfection of team unity in
combining moves, but also on a huge level of individual skill on the part of Natus Vincere s
Dendi in landing the initial Meat Hook from Pudge. However for the average spectator, many of
whom were from a League of Legendsbackground (1), it looked like an (albeit fun) exploit

Heroes Of The Enlightenment Analysis
In the video Heroes of the Enlightenment by Humanist Society of Australia Inc, the author explains
how during the seventeenth and eighteenth century European philosophy, science and politics were
reoriented as part of a movement known as the Age of Enlightenment. The objective of the
Enlightenment was to inform the public, aiming to persuade others about the main hero s ideas
within that era. As well as, how they shaped the world that we live in today.
The first hero of the enlightenment was Isaac Newton who was an innovator of modern science, and
he founded the theory of gravity. He believed knowledge was not only written in the bible but also
about observing what happens in our surroundings. Newton conceived gravity by watching an
apple that was falling from a tree. Where other people would see just an apple falling, Newton had
seen universal forces that were in action. Newton believed that God set up the universe in its eternal
state. Newton s contributions gave people access to knowledge within the world. ... Show more

Anne Bradstreet-an Author to Her Book Essay
In The Author to Her Book, Bradstreet is inundated in indecision and internal struggles over the
virtues and shortfalls of her abilities and the book that she produced. As human beings we associate
and sympathize with each other through similar experiences. It is difficult to sympathize with
someone when you don t know where they are coming from and don t know what they are dealing
with. Similar experiences and common bonds are what allow us to extend our sincere appreciation
and understanding for another humanbeing s situation. In this poem an elaborate struggle between
pride and shamemanifests itself through an extended metaphor in which she equates her book to
her own child.

She constantly speaks directly to her work as if it were her own child. Then in line 23 Bradstreet
calls herself the mother of this work.
Lines two through five move past depicting her as the mother and express how she feels
embarrassed that her works were published before she was ready to share them with the world
and without her consent. She says that the child had been by her side until snatched from thence
by friends, less wise than true (line 3). Basically she is saying a trusted person snatched her
work from her without permission to take them to England to be printed. Had it not been for her
brother in law taking her work back to England and getting them printed they may have never
been known. The intimacy and feeling she shares with her work is like that of a mother and
child and that bond was infringed upon when her work was exposed to public view (line 4). The
intrusion of her brother in law getting her work printed is the cause of feeling that follow.
Ironically the next thing she talks is the shame she has been thrust upon her by not being able to
perfect the work before it was published. This is illustrated in line five where she writes, Made thee
in rags, as to say her work is like a child dressed in rags.
In lines six through nine Bradstreet associates the embarrassment she feels due to her unperfected

Consequences Associated With Unprotected Sexual Activity
Although many movies and television shows glorify sex and sexual activity, Sex should not be

The generation of today has a lot of focus on leisure and off time. They are looking for ways to

accommodations, and is the perfect venue to open up is done with some thoughtful planning. There
are some important elements to consider. Location is always a key element. A new venue such

There are no professional sports teams or other high energy activities around. A nightclub can
provide this activity.
By offering more than alcoholic drinks, the club will bring in a wider variety of people. They
will be providing games such as video games, pool and shuffleboard for additional entertainment
and appeal to people not there just to drink. The food in the club will be affordable and appeal to
many. There is your typical bar food such as hot wings, nachos and burgers, as well as moderately
priced entrees. In addition to the amenities, the service will be key. There will be friendly high
energy staff available to create a comfortable environment. Having a high staff to customer ratio

The target audience the nightclub is aiming at is well designed. They are appealing to childless

Concept Of Organizational Culture Shift
This movie illustrates the ability for organizational change to influence success, and widely
accepted societal norms to be defied, through the combined efforts of a group of individuals. In
this particular instance, a lowly rated baseball team in a small market and inauspicious financial
setting is able to undergo a transformative change, primarily due to their beliefs. This illustrates to
organizations that change can be beneficial and is usually required in order to remain competitive,
and it is often a preferred route to follow in order to achieve desired goals.
Change is important in organizations as it allows employees to learn new skills, explore new
opportunities and exercise their creativity in ways that ultimately benefit the organization through
new idea generation and increased commitment (Leigh Demand, n.d., para. 6). The concept of
organizational culture shift can be viewed as a process that is undertaken for growth and success, as
it creates room for new opportunities and risk taking. The purpose of the paper which highlights the
need for organizational and cultural change, and its intrinsic benefits, will be achieved through an
analysis of the internal culture and the influence of external environment, by observing the benefits
of incorporating change in an organization. Furthermore, I will discuss the advantages and
disadvantages of adapting to changes and the competitive edge it provides to organizations.
This paper will begin with a synopsis, which

Social Darwinism Book Report
Social Darwinism is the theory of evolution applied to human society. Social Darwinism was a
term formed in the late 19th century to describe the idea that humans, like plants and animals,
compete in a struggle for existence. The theory of evolution came about in 1859, when Charles
Darwin, an English naturalist and geologist, published a book called, On the Origin of Species. The
book talks about Darwin s theory of evolutionby natural selectionand survival of the fittest. Darwin
believed that organisms change over time as a result of changes in physical or behavioral traits.
One of Darwin s main points in his book was, Survival of the fittest. This refers to an animal s
ability to survive and reproduce. Species evolve through changes... Show more content on

Rockefeller, Andrew Carnegie, J.P. Morgan, and Henry Ford. These were just a few business
men that followed the idea of Social Darwinism. In the late 1820 s, Cornelius Vanderbilt went
into business on his own, building steamships in the New York area, eventually becoming one of
the largest steamship operators. In the 1860 s, the railroad industry was entering a period of
great expansion, so he shifted his attention to make railroad transportation more efficient.
Vanderbilt s goal was to control the steel industry. He bought out competitors and suppliers,
giving him total power to set the cost of his product to what he wanted. Vanderbilt used the idea
of Social Darwinism when he transferred from working the shipping to railroad business. He
knew that if he kept his shipping business, it wouldn t be as profitable later on. That s why he
invested his money, focus, and time into building a successful railroad industry. At a young age,
John D. Rockefeller acted much like a young businessman, selling candy to local children and
supporting his family. In 1870, Rockefeller established the Standard Oil Company of Ohio. He
eventually controlled 90 percent of the refining business. With his large profits, he drove his
competitors out of business by selling the oil cheaper than what it cost to produce the oil. After
taking total control, he raised the price of oil to make his money back. In 1873, Andrew
Carnegie entered the steel business and by 1899, the Carnegie Steel Company manufactured
more steel than all the factories in Great Britain. Carnegie s success was to searching for ways to
make better products more cheaply and hired chemists to improve the quality of the steel. He used
a vertical integration which he bought out his suppliers, giving him total power of the cost and
quality of his product. Carnegie was greatly influenced by Herbert Spencer s, Social Darwinism.
Spencer believed that the poor were

measure from a UML perspective and the other to add an objective measure of complexity to a
standard measure in COSMIC FFP in order to reach a higher level of confidence with those
measures. So far, it can be concluded that, from UML use cases and Actor Object sequence
diagrams of a system application, the number of messages exchanged correspond to the number of
function points according to the COSMIC FFP method. The main advantage of this approach to
benefit from the UML standard modeling notation and the training done with software engineers
to model the software with the UML notation 2. Vipin Saxena et al. [2] have proposed the
performance of function point analysis though UML modeling. In software development,
estimation of software size is one of the major activities. Various types of metrics are available for
computation of software size. It is necessary to check the performance of each metric. Lines of
code, objects and function point analysis are widely used for measurements of software size, cost
and schedule of development. The Function Point (FP) Analysis is one of the most promising

Solomon Northup Research Paper
Although he was born free, Solomon Northup still became a slave under tough circumstances.
Solomon Northup was born in July of 1808, in Minerva, New York. Solomon was born free due
to the death of his father s, Mintus, owner. His father s owner was named Captain Henry Northup,
which is how Solomon and his father received their last name. While Northup was a child, he had
acquired some education, but mainly worked on his family s farm. In 1828, Solomon married
Anne Hampton. In 1834, he and his wife moved to Saratoga Springs, New York. They later had
three children, Elizabeth, Margaret, and Alonzo. While in upstate New York, Solomon Northup

Ford was known as being very kind to Solomon. However, William Prince Ford had to give
Solomon back to the slave market due to finances. Northup s second owner was John M. Tibaut
who was very brutal to Solomon. Northup was later rescued by Ford s overseer, Andrew Chafin.
He was then sent to Edwin Epps and was a slave under him for the next ten years. His owner,
Edwin Epps, put Solomon in charge over the rest of the slaves. Solomon tried many times to
escape, but was never successful. Finally, in June of 1852, he was able to send letters to his
friends and family back home in New York. In these letters, he told them where he was and all
that had happened to him. In November of 1852, there was a widespread search in order to find
Solomon. Solomon was found in the same year. On January 4, 1853, Solomon legally obtained
total freedom. He was then reunited with his family and friends. In 1853, Solomon wrote a
memoir called Twelve Years a Slave. He could not have done this without the help of his friend,
David Wilson. In the year of 1857, Solomon disappeared from the public eye. After he
disappeared, he then began to help Harriet Tubman with the Underground Railroad. No one is
quite sure how, when, or where Solomon died, On top of not knowing how, when, or where he
died, no one quite knows where Solomon was buried either. Many believe that Solomon died

The Monster In Bram Stoker s Dracula
The most infamous vampire in history emerged from the streets of Ireland in 1897. The
publication of Dracula set the modern vampire into motion. Vampire legends themselves have
stretched back for centuries, but it was this one novel that paved the road for others to follow.
When thinking of Dracula, it can be easy to think of the blood sucking creature who travels from
Transylvania. Not often does history recognize the inspiration for the character known as Count
Dracula. The legend begins in Romania in 1431 with the birth of Vlad III Dracul, or Vlad, Son of
The Dragon. This was the man that grew up to be a hero to Romania, a feared and ruthless leader,
an accomplished military strategist, and the foundations for Bram Stokers novel. Though... Show

was cold only to those who crossed his path the wrong way or threatened the nation to which he

Themes In Scott Westerfeld s Uglies And The Third And...
Imagine if an individual conquering his/her largest challenge presents one with an incredible
reward. Surprisingly, this idea is shared between three uncommon literature works. Within Scott
Westerfeld s Uglies, the main character, Tally Youngblood, triumphed through an exhausting and
tough journey to a place that leads her to learn about self worth. Furthermore, The Third and Final
Continent describes the narrator, Jhumpa Lahiri s, adventure of his life through three continents
and poor living conditions during that time resulting in Jhumpa Lahiri finally finding a value in life.
In Rudyard Kiplings poem, If , the audience witnesses if statements that express if someone
conquers the troubles in their life, the world will be theirs. Incredibly, among three unlike
compositions, a common theme, overcoming obstacles and being honored with a sentimental
reward, is conveyed through plot, cause and effect, and characterization. Between Ugliesand The
Third and Final Continent, the moral surpassing struggles and receive an award is displayed
through the literary device, plot. For justification, both storylines included developed characters, an
exposition, a descriptive setting, one or multiple conflicts, necessary rising and falling actions, an
intense climax, and a resolution. As evidence, Tally, from Uglies, defeated her rough trip to her
destination and enjoyed her freedom as she fell into the routines of the Smoke (Westerfeld 218).

The Role Of Women In Matthew LewisThe Monk And The Italian
Matthew Lewis The Monk differs from Ann Radcliffe s The Italian in its portrayal of women.
Since both The Monk and The Italian feature prominent female religious leaders, comparing the
different ways The Monk and The Italian portray this specific group of women sheds light on each
author s attitude toward female agency. The latter refers to the ability to exercise control in
pursuing individual goals. Both The Monkand The Italian depict tyrannical head nuns abusing their
agency. However, the horrific descriptions and exclusive focus on diabolical nuns in The Monk
exudes a pessimistic attitude towards female agency as invariably leading to catastrophes. By
contrast, The Italian reveals a more optimistic attitude towards female agency through its more
subtle depiction of the cruel nuns and its acknowledgement of benevolent nuns, proposing that
female agency can be channeled to good causes. In The Monk, the Prioress abuses her agency in
tyrannical ways. The Prioress imprisons women and rules by fear, oppressing the women within her
convent. She consider[s] [women of rank] quitting the Convent, as a disgrace thrown upon it and
will use every artifice to avoid [that] (169). Not only does she imprison women, she also subdues
them by fear as seen by how Mother St. Ursula describes her fear that her every action [is]

Unnatural Relationships Prompted by Power
A struggle for supremacy between parent and offspring is a reoccurring theme throughout
William Shakespeare s tragedy King Lear. The play unfolds as King Lear is deciding how to
divide his realm amongst his three daughters. Lear s two eldest daughters, Goneril and Regan,
flatter their father with elaborate speeches of love hoping to inherit the largest piece of land.
Unknown to Lear, his daughter s so called unconditional love for him is nothing more than an
attempt to possess dominance over the kingdom. Consequently, an unnatural relationship
between father and daughters is created due to the pursuit of power. The first sign that Lear s
daughters desire control is observable in Regan s dialogue in act one scene one. After Goneril
appeals her love for Lear Regan replies, I am made of that self mettle as my sister / And prize me
at her worth. In my true heart / I find she names my very deed of love; / Only she comes too
short (lines 76 79 page 11). Here Regan claims that her and Goneril are the same, yet Goneril s
love is not as worthy as Regan s. Both daughters are competing against each other in order to
obtain the most amount of land. As a result, an abnormal relationship is formed because the
daughter s drive to love their father should not be based on material possessions. Goneril s and
Regan s motivation is the control they will receive in deceiving their father with false love.
Additionally, the concept of unnaturalness between daughters and father due to being

America s Treatment Of The Elderly
There is a perceived notion that Eastern societies view aging in a positive aspect, while Western
societies view aging in a negative light. Although there is much emphasis on respect for elders on
the Confucian societies, however, does East Asia s treatment of the Elderly really differ from North
America s treatment? In the Perceptions of Agingin Two cultures: Korean and American views on
Old Age, the authors are able to prove their thesis that through previous studies by Harwood et al
that countries such as South Korea, Philippines and Hong Kong do not necessarily hold positive
views on of old age. In this study, to better understand beliefs and perceptions of aging, Koreans
were expected to have a greater fear of old people, worry more about their physical appearance, and
show greater levels of anxiety over aging more than their American counter parts. Although
American women were expected to show more anxiety towards their physical appearance more than
their male counterparts. Such perceptions on older people have an effect on the mental, physical
and emotional health of elderly people. The many negative stereotypes about seniors affect how
seniors see themselves and how society views them. These stereotypes are usually regarding their
physical and cognitive abilities . Although these stereotypes may seem harmless, they hold serious
ramifications to which affects the elderly participation in activities which may improve their
physical or cognitive abilities. These

  • 2. American Exceptionalism Research Paper The topic of American Exceptionalism is a very contentious one. Over the past several years, news pundits have brought up the subject repeatedly and some on both the right and the left frequently use it as a litmus test for ideological purity. Generally speaking, there are two lines of thought that dominate the discussion of this topic. One line of thought holds that American Exceptionalism is very real and has had a profound impact on the United States. There are two related threads involved in this argument. First is the idea that because the United States was created as, what one might call, the first new nation, emerging out of an explosive revolutionary event that severed all connections between America and Europe. • 3. The Contribution Of David Gates David gates is an aviator, nurse, computer specialist, he uses these skills as a medical missionary in South America. Previously he used his nursing skills along with his skills in aviation as an entering wedge into many countries where they were reluctant to allow Christians and as a result the places were much more open for church work. After coming back form the missionfield, he started a mission foundation, Gospel Missions International. His life is one of continual service and he used his skills to change many peoples lives, not only on the physical level but also on the spiritual level. His testimony has influenced my life ever since I was a child. And his experiences of combining medical ministry with aviation has inspired me to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All through his life, David Gates didn t stop being a missionary. He now uses his testimony to inspire others through speaking and through his book to follow in his footsteps and to become missionaries. He also started a ministry that trains people who have a desire to one day become a medical missionary, thus ensuring that this work does not end. David Gates has inspired countless people to become a missionary. But he didn t just stop at inspiring them. He also started a mission foundation called Global Missions International. His foundation helps dreams become realities for many missionaries. Through Gospel Missions International, he is supporting people like DJ and Jodi Knott, and Herman and Saray Gonzalez and others who are working in South America as missionary pilot nurses. They are changing the world one person at a time and many times beginning with the physical needs of the people. From research, it didn t appear that David Gates had any direct influence on Adventist nursing, but he did use nursing to open the door in many countries for Adventists to be able to witness. And now, through his ministry, he is still is able to send missionaries to other countries that previously would not have been open for them had it not been for medical missionary work. Today GMI directs and supports medical aviation programs in Guyana, Venezuela, Bolivia, and Norway, reaching people in the interior with the gospel and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Similarities And Differences Between Dancing With Wolves... For this paper I will be comparing Avatar (2009) and Dancing with Wolves (1990) which are two very acclaimed movies that in a sense are very similar to each other but at the same time do not share the same themes or story line. Avatar, which is Fantasy/Science fiction movie directed by James Cameron released on December 18, 2009 being the world s highest grossing film of all time and is one of the most prosperous movies of the last few years. It has been nominated for nine Academy Awards and has won three of them. Dancing with Wolves that in the other hand is an Epic Western/Drama movie released on November 21, 1990 and directed by Kevin Costner. The first thing that could be very noticeable between these movies is how far apart each movie was released away from each other, almost a 20 year difference between the releases date. I believe that these two movies have a lot of common and resemble each other in many ways that could even imagine. In both movies the protagonists are very similar to each other. But also, some of the themes and aspects that these movies share are: main characters falling in love, protagonist being introduced to a new civilization and how both protagonists are leading a battle against a different tribe. Avatar is a live action film about a human colony that has been established on a distant planet called Pandora. The humans are going after an uncommon mineral that could settle an ecological crisis that is affecting planet Earth. However, their plans ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Cause And Effects Of Global Warming Global warming is the long term trend in the increase of Earth s average surface temperature due to effect of greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide emissions from burning fossil fuels or from deforestation, which trap heat that would otherwise escape from Earth. This entrapment of greenhouse gases is what is causing average temperatures around the world to rise. Global Warming is responsible for the increase in natural disasters, because since the global climate has been continuously increasing over the years it has increased the chances for natural disasters to occur around the world. There are many causes for global warming; the increase in carbon dioxideis the leading major cause. Article 1 states, CO2 absorbs heat reflected from the Earths surface heat that would otherwise pass freely into space. The CO2 then releases that heat, warming the Earth s atmosphere. As CO2 levels increase, the pace of warming accelerates. Satellite measurements confirm that less heat is escaping the atmosphere today than 40 years ago. Though other heat trapping gases also play a role, CO2 is the primary contributor to global warming. (ucsusa.org art.1) The increase in carbon dioxide gases has caused the global surface temperatures to increase, by the gases trapping the extra heat inside of earth that are meant to escape and leave earth. However, while carbon dioxide is what is causing global warming, with it increasing the global surface temperature, humans is what is causing the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. The Josephine Baker Story Essay Josephine Baker was born Freda Josephine Carson in St. Louis, Missouri, on June 3, 1906 to washerwoman, Carrie McDonald, and vaudeville drummer, Eddie Carson. Josephine s father abandoned them shortly after her birth and her mother married a kind but perpetually unemployed man named Arthur Martin. Their family came to include a son and two more daughters. Josephine grew up cleaning houses and babysitting for wealthy white families until she got a job waitressing at The Old Chauffeur s Club when she was 13 years old. While working there she met a man named Willie Wells whom she had a short marriage with. Josephine never depended on a man for financial support and she never hesitated to leave when a relationship hit its breaking point. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Josephine battled two other women for the title of the most photographed woman in the world, and by 1927 she earned more than any entertainer in Europe. She starred in two movies in the early 1930s and moved her family from St. Louis to Les Milandes, her estate in Castelnaud Fayrac, France. A 1936 return to the United States to star in the Ziegfield Follies proved disastrous, despite the fact that she was a major celebrity in Europe. American audiences rejected the idea of a black woman with so much sophistication and power. Newspaper reviews were equally cruel (The New York Times called her a quot;Negro wench quot;), and Josephine returned to Europe heartbroken. She served France during World War II in many ways. She performed for the troops, and was an honorable correspondent for the French Resistance (undercover work included smuggling secret messages written on her music sheetsin invisible ink) and a sub lieutenant in the Women s Auxiliary Air Force. She was awarded the Medal of the Resistance and awarded into the Legion of Honor by the French government for hard work and dedication. Josephine visited the United States again during the 50s and 60s with renewed vigor to fight racism. When New York s popular Stork Club refused her service she engaged a head on media battle with pro segregation columnist Walter Winchell. The NAACP named May 20 Josephine Baker Day in honor of her efforts. During this time she began adopting children, forming a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Operant Behavior Analysis This article defined the main accounts of antecedent processes in operant behavior, it presented a theoretical review of applied research on antecedent events in behavior disorders, and lastly it recognized some promising areas for upcoming studies. The article talks about three theorists and their theories. These theorists include Skinner, Kantor, and Michael. Skinner is known for his reinforcement theory, however, he had writings of the environmental settings under which behavior may occur. Differential reinforcement of responding in the presence of discriminative stimuli is how Skinner believed stimulus control over behavior is developed. Discrimination describes a certain functional relationship between antecedent events, behavior, and consequences that deliveries to a variety of circumstances. Disruption Presents As A Dramatic Stage Play DISRUPTION presents as a dramatic stage play that is driven by strong themes about control, power, healing, trauma, life choices, responsibility, and inner demons. There s one location setting and a contained cast of four, appropriate for a stage play. The structure is divided into two acts. The play immediately jumps into the storyline. The actionable goal for Will is clear. However, the story is driven more by the emotional inner conflict or demon of each character. As mentioned, the story covers several relevant topics. Finding a way to get them stuck inside can help elevate the tension because they can t leave. Consider tightening and narrowing down some of the dialogue and topics. Focus on the ones that generate the most conflict. The story gets so much more exciting when Ed begins to accuse Will of using them and raping Pam. The ending with the murder is tragic and a bit distressing. It may not be an ending that feels satisfying. In fact, the ending feels a bit abrupt. One doesn t have a strong emotional response with the current conclusion of Will s death and Pamela s phone call. An alternative is to have Will decide to try and kill himself (like his father). He has been in denial of his father s suicide and it seems that it would be poetic justice if he decided to take his own life. In addition, perhaps Ed encourages this (which would create tension), but Pamela tries to talk him out of killing himself. It s still going to be challenging to have him die, so reconsider this. The characters are complex and each one is struggling with their own demons. They are the type of complex characters that can attract talent. Will is will crafted as an egotistical businessman. His voice reflects his values and his personality. He seeks power and control. He s corrupt and immoral. He has strong inner conflict about his father. • 16. The Effects Of Overpopulation On The Environment The current world s population is estimated at approximately six billion people in the world and even this number can be inaccurate. According to Sernau (2012), what is harder to estimate are the effects that this growth and change will have on our planet. When looking at overpopulation and the effects on the environment, we look at the overpopulationin cities and countries across the nation. Many economic problems in our society place an impact on our environment from overpopulation come from the overuse of resources, lack of resources, and pollution. There are many solutions to this problem but the common factor is humans have to put controls in place and take care of the environment, so the required resources do not become extinct. Human population growth is a major contributor to global warming, given that more people means more resources. When reading an article on population growth on climate change (Scientific American, 2017), it reports that many population experts believe the answer lies in improving the health of women and children in developing nations. By reducing poverty and infant mortality, increasing women s and girls access to basic human rights (health care, education, economic opportunity), educating women about birth control options and ensuring access to voluntary family planning services, women will choose to limit family size (Scientific American, 2017). Financial Resources For many years now, healthcare organizations in Canada have faced financial challenges as a result of lower healthcare spending and increased expenses (Canadian Institute for Health Information, 2014, para.1). Therefore, before the introduction of any new initiative, the nurse leader must ensure the change does not bring any financial hardship to the organization and resources are used in a cost effective manner (Marquis Huston, 2015). For this planned change, there is no financial cost with revising the role and responsibilities of all the Nurse Clinicians and the existing budget is the financial resource that will cover the cost of adding another Nurse Clinician The largest financial aspect of this planned change is the salary of the new Nurse Clinician. In this case, when creating another role the nurse manager has to ensure the change will be cost neutral to the organization, meaning the addition of one Nurse Clinician will have no impact on the overall budget. The process starts first with the cabling and physical installation of the disk. Next it is key to ensure the computer s BIOS is properly configured to allow access to the drive. Once the machine can see the physical drive the next step is to prepare the drive to accept data by partitioning the drive for the desired disk layout. Finally, the drive is mounted within the filesystem hierarchy so it may be accessed by the end user. Installing the Drive The first step in this process is the physical installation of the drive. While the process of installing an IDE drive is more involved than a SATA drive it is still easily accomplished if a few precautious are followed. The first step is to configure the jumper on the back of the IDE drive. Refer to the sticker on the drive itself or the manufacturer data sheet to identify the correct jumper position. After all, the Choice is Yours Existentialism is a humanism, sure, if one were so inclined, since after all it is ones choice to choose if they are a true existentialist. Any and all human philosophies can be used as a guide to ones path in life in their own morality, however, until it becomes inconvenient then it is tolerable to deviate off ones path to make it work for themselves. The basic foundation of existentialism is, existence precedes essence and there can be no human nature if this is ones belief, as Descartes puts it, in a sense; I think therefore I am . Meursault mirrors Sartre s description of existentialism in his absurd view of the world and life in general, by demonstrating that nothing really matters, since everyone must live and die, what we do in between is irrelevant. Therefore, he dons the choice onto Marie, however the true insignificance to Marie s proposal is what is being upheld in his decision. Association between Primary and Secondary Psychopathy and Cognitive Empathy Psychopathy is a disorder which can be split into two subtypes, primary and secondary. Primary psychopathy is typified by callous, manipulative, selfish and untruthful behaviour (Karpman, 1948, as cited in Levenson, Kiehl Fitzpatrick, 1995). Secondary psychopathy is associated with anxiety, introversion, low self esteem and moodiness (Blackburn Fawcett, 1999 as cited by Ali Chamorro Premuzic, 2010). Cognitive empathy is described as the being able to understand and infer emotions of others (Joliffee Farrington, 2004 as cited by Ali Chamorro Premuzic). Understanding the association between Psychopathy and Empathy is an area of interest as it provides insight on how to effectively rehabilitate psychopaths; if they are showing the ... Most things in our society today are artificial, rarely is anything pure. If one was to look back in time societies morals are very different then they are now. One example of this can be seen in the act of fornication, or better known as sex before marriage. The Invisible Coin Introduction Summary Essay The Invisible Coin Introduction summary: Since its insertion into the mainstream world, Bitcoin, a virtual decentralized currency, has fully fledged in both its status and in its use. Despite this, there still endures a relative lack of economic exploration in academia about this innovative economic phenomenon. Bitcoin is an online currency that does not require a bank account, credit card or any personal information. Bitcoin stays clear of the roads that are most travelled ; the catch though is you re no longer backed by any government. Bitcoin doesn t have a central bank or a countries leadership vouching for its authenticity. Bitcoin is unique; Bitcoin is the opposite of what we normally would think of a currency, so maybe that s why it took some time for it to lift up in the early stages. Nobel Prize winner Milton Friedman in 1999 once spoke out and said, The one thing that s missing, but will soon be developed, is a reliable e cash . So Friedman was ahead of everyone else seeing this as a development for the world market. The beginning of Bitcoin is not exactly easy to fully document because the so called creator is known to have an alias name. That name first arose in 2008 in a paper published via online with the name of Satoshi Nakamoto . That paper was titled Bitcoin, a Peer to Peer Electronic Cash System . November 2008 was the early stages of the great financial crisis. So pre financial crisis, maybe the interest for Bitcoin was not noticed right away. But ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He in his writing shines a light on suffering of the soldiers in the unpleasant environment. The poem, Dulce et decorum est starts off with giving us an upsetting image of the troops and their conditions. They are described as Bent double, like old beggars under sacks . Use of simile in the first line of the poem compares young men to old beggars and reminds us of how helpless they were. Their expectations of their appearance in clean uniforms and excitement of the war, as suggested by the propaganda, were shattered. Distorted by the conflict, these soldiers once strong and healthy had no strength left in them. Being labelled old beggars indicates they had nothing to live for and were in a wait to get out of misery. Furthermore, the description of the soldiers and their unlikely comparisons in similes does not improve. Owen writes Knock kneed, coughing like hags which suggests that the health of these men or hags as they were being called was extremely challenged and illnesses were taking over them. This is very effective as it shows how the men were aged and coughing like witches. Being compared to hags which would have been very powerful back in the days meant they were no less than women. Women at the time were considered very weak with not many rights. They were restricted to certain jobs. Soldiers on the front line ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The impact of EU s membership to the UK is not only felt in the economic sector, but can also be felt in the areas of its policies too. The superiority theory notes that people laugh outwardly or inwardly at others because they feel some sort of triumph over them or feel superior in someway to them, for example parents laughing at the the misunderstandings of their children. When communicators, or narratives, use this type of humor they make their audiences feel superior in the sense that they [the audience] are brought up to a more equal relationship with the speaker (Meyer 314, 318). Although allowing an audience to feel superior to the character within a show may seem negative at first, due to the fact that it separates the audience from the characters mentally, in reality by deprecating Maou and Ashiya through humor, the show is able to bring the two powerful demons down the the audience s level, bringing the two groups closer. In the 1860 s, the railroad industry was entering a period of great expansion, so he shifted his attention to make railroad transportation more efficient. Vanderbilt s goal was to control the steel industry. He bought out competitors and suppliers, giving him total power to set the cost of his product to what he wanted. Vanderbilt used the idea of Social Darwinism when he transferred from working the shipping to railroad business. He knew that if he kept his shipping business, it wouldn t be as profitable later on. That s why he invested his money, focus, and time into building a successful railroad industry. At a young age, John D. Since both The Monk and The Italian feature prominent female religious leaders, comparing the different ways The Monk and The Italian portray this specific group of women sheds light on each author s attitude toward female agency. The latter refers to the ability to exercise control in pursuing individual goals. Both The Monkand The Italian depict tyrannical head nuns abusing their agency. However, the horrific descriptions and exclusive focus on diabolical nuns in The Monk exudes a pessimistic attitude towards female agency as invariably leading to catastrophes. By contrast, The Italian reveals a more optimistic attitude towards female agency through its more subtle depiction of the cruel nuns and its acknowledgement of benevolent nuns, proposing that female agency can be channeled to good causes. In The Monk, the Prioress abuses her agency in tyrannical ways. The Prioress imprisons women and rules by fear, oppressing the women within her convent.
