Formal Approach to Thomas Gray s Elegy (Eulogy) Written in a Country Churchyard
Thomas Gray s poem Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard is a very structured poem with a set
number of lines per stanza, and a specific rhyme scheme throughout the entire poem. The poem
focuses on Gray s thoughts while he visits a country churchyard, and ends with an epitaph written
on one of the tombstones in the churchyard. The setting of a country churchyard automatically
gives way to a small and unknown graveyard, and those that inhabit the graveyard are not going to
be well known people in the community or in American history. Gray s form and style allow for
the reader to see the churchyard he is in, and the metaphors and symbolism he uses open ... Show

Gray uses not only the form of the poem as symbolism, but he also uses the text to evoke images
into the reader minds. Where heaves the turf in many a mould ring heap... (14). Grey s word choice
in this line evokes an image of the graveyard and the different plots around him, and the aging of
each of the graves in the graveyard. The molding of the plots gives the image of a piece of bread
that has aged and become green and black with the mold. Grey also uses metaphors to get across
the message of the poem:
Full many a gem of purest ray serene The dark unfathom d caves of ocean bear: Full many a
flower is born to blush unseen, And wastes its sweetness on the desert air.(53 56)
This stanza becomes one of the focal points of the entire elegy. It is taking the metaphor of a bright
object hidden behind a larger darker object. This metaphor shows that in life that the greatest
things in life might never be seen or experienced, because they are never noticed or are so
hidden from society so they will never become a part of society. This holds true for the greatest
things in life whether it is a flower, gem, or person. Those things will not be noticed by society
because they are so hidden in life that no one ever takes the time to stop and realize the beauty or
full potential of that object.
The point of view in the poem is form Gray s perspective as to what

Analysis Of The Article The Us Constitution
On June 17th 2015, in Charleston S.C., where the roads are named after confederate generals,
21 year old Dylann Roof wore a Rhodesian badge, as he shot nine african americans in the
Emanuel Church in hope of igniting a civil war . (Jessica Glenza; The guardian) Previously that
year Roof, had been arrested and banned from a public mall, in march for a drug charge and in
April for trespassing. In his case file it states that he was found in possession of narcotics to treat
his drug addiction. It was also noted that he had an obsessive compulsive disorder. However,
despite these factors, Roof was still able to personally purchase the gun from a retail gun store in
charleston because of lapses in the FBI background check system, (Ellen... Show more content on

The United States has always a gun and hunting culture starting from the birth of the country itself.
The men who fought in the war of independence were citizens who owned their own muskets.
However the issue of gun control can be traced back to the Civil War, as new African American
citizens needed to protect themselves from their previous owners in the south that would often hunt
them down. The problematic of gun control have changed greatly due to the evolution of times.
From the late twentieth century until today, gun control has been highly debated because of
recurrent mass shootings, such as Columbine, such as Sandy Hook, such as Virginia Tech, such as
San Bernardino, and such as Roseburg just to name a few. Many have pleaded for thorough
background checks to prevent convicts or the mentally handicapped from owning guns, while
others argue that US citizens should follow in the steps of advanced European countries and no
longer possess these lethal weapons. Others who are often leaning to the right argue that this a
fundamental right that defines americanism and shapes American pride and historic culture.
However recurrent mass shootings are nothing to be proud of.
The second amendment of the Constitution guarantees the right of every American to bear arms.
Therefore many supporters of gun ownership have been using this right to

Memorable Scene Of Invictus
Invictus Film review.
If you are interested in history, drama, sport or all three combined, then this film is for you.
Invictus, directed by Clint Eastwood, is a legendary sports biographical drama. Eastwood created
the film with an intention of trying to show the power of sport and how rugby alone managed to
unite the mighty nation of South Africa. The story of how the power of the sport alone was able to
do this during the country s terrible post apartheid era is shown in this potential tearjerker. This
included the high tension between civilians, which was due to racial discrimination and had been
present for the previous 50 years as well. The inspirational Morgan Freeman plays the film s
leading character, Nelson Mandela, who is the first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Clint Eastwood, the director, continued to display the relevance of the issue throughout the film.
He allowed the viewer to understand the situation in more depth, and also encouraged them to
realise the huge effect racism had within one country alone. The audience is also shown the
amazing person Mandela was, and Eastwood tries to inspire the viewers as well, by showing his
sincere and unforgettable personality. Invictus is a film definitely worth viewing, with the cast
staying very true to their roles, with the combined truth of the script. Nelson Mandela s leadership
is a huge part of the films message, along with the power of sport, and the film sends a strong and
inspirational message out to its

Expectancy Violation Theory Summary
Chiles and Roloff use Expectancy Violation Theory to understand the relationship between
expectations and responses to apologies. Chiles and Roloff clarify that EVT assumes that
individuals form expectations for the normative and prescriptive rules guiding (communicative)
interactions with others, and when those expectations are violated individuals become cognitively
aroused. At that point, based on factors such as the situation, the context, and the relationship itself,
individuals consciously or unconsciously attribute a valence, positive or negative, to the violation.
EVT is one of the most widely used theoretical perspectives on expectations and communication
behavior, and has been applied to a variety of novel contexts. However, no studies... Show more

K., Bennett, M., and Goffman, E. Once again, using EVT as their perspective, this article
focuses on the degree to which people expect apologies to be accepted, the extent to which they
are accepted/rejected and how offenders view expected and unexpected responses. Chiles and
Roloff found that while accepting an apology is positively evaluated by apologizers, this
relationship is moderated by their expectations of acceptance prior to the actual response to the
apology. According to EVT, the stronger an expectation is, the more it matters whether an
individual violates it or not. The more an apologizer believes an apology will be accepted, the
more positively they will view adherence to this expectation. Consequently, violations or deviations
from increasingly strong expectations will be viewed more negatively. Drawing on the framework
of EVT, the researchers predict and confirm that acceptance of an apology would be positively
related to the evaluation of said response, but this relationship would be moderated by the
expectations the apologizer had for acceptance. Chiles and Roloff found that a limitation to their
experiment is that communicative behavior is the driving behavior to the response of an apology,
not expectations. However, expectations are still an important factor determinate whether or not a
person will forgive someone who has hurt

Essay on the Life of Frederick Douglass
In Frederick Douglass #8217; Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, Mr. Douglass gives
many examples of cruelty towards slaves as he shows many reasons that could have been used to
abolish slavery. Throughout the well written narrative, Douglass uses examples from the severe
whippings that took place constantly to a form of brainwashing by the slaveholders over the
slaves describing the terrible conditions that the slaves were faced with in the south in the first
half of the 1800 #8217;s. The purpose of this narrative was most likely to give others not affiliated
with slaves an explicit view of what actually happened to the slaves physically, mentally, and
emotionally to show the explicit importance of knowledge to the liberation... Show more content on

A majority of southern slaveholders took part in sexual relations with their slaves because it was
their property and they felt should be able to do whatever they wanted to do with it. This idea of
the slaveholder was an evil example of the condition of slavery and how it was such a necessity
that it be abolished. The total disrespect by slaveholders towards the slave families is
overwhelmingly sinful. How could one person be so oblivious to the wickedness of their
actions to their families of slaves by impregnating their women and separating them from each
other? The shear absence of any respect for Africans or mankind in general, makes those certain
slaveholders the worst humans on this earth. As a young child, Frederick Douglass was
introduced to the acts of violence towards the slaves including the all too common whippings.
He says, #8220;I have often been awakened at the down of day by the most heart rendering
shrieks of an own aunt of mine, whom he used to tie up to a joist, and whip upon her naked back
till she was literally covered with blood. #8221; One could only imagine the horrid pictures that
slaves would have seen on a daily basis of other slaves nearly being beaten to death by their
masters. For the black children growing up on the plantation, the master was seen to be a man of
great power and not to be taken lightly. This was exactly

The Final Legacy Of William The Conqueror, Leader Of The...
He ended with a BANG! That is the final legacy of William the Conqueror, leader of the Norman
invasion of Britain and victor at the iconic Battle of Hastings. When William died, he had
developed a bacterial infection in his stomach, which went unnoticed by the mortician. William
was a rather heavy man, and the coffin he was given was slightly small, so he was forced into
the coffin even though he did not fit. As the infection spread, gas began to build up in his gut,
and, in the middle of his funeral precession, the coffin burst, guts and stagnant blood flying all
over the now shrieking crowd. But he is remembered for far more impactful and even bloodier
events (10). Although the Norman Conquest of 1066 was a year of much bloodshed, that year
was pivotal to the nation of Great Britain as it helped to establish the boarders and structure of
the Kingdom of Great Britain, it contributed to the creation the English dialect, and brought new
political, social, and religious reforms to the region, each of which stood to benefit the lands well
being The year of 1066 C.E was a period of great reckoning, as the events of the year s famous
Norman invasion would shape the British Isles forever. Before the invasion, Englandwas ruled by a
scheming King known as Edward the Confessor, who used his childless marriage as a political tool.
He promised his crown to several different people in his lifetime, such as Harold II, the Earl of

Use Of Juxtaposition In All Quiet On The Western Front
Juxtaposition, a literary device in which two or more people, places, or ideas are placed side by
side for the purpose of contrasting them, is frequently used in Erich Maria Remarque s war novel
titled All Quiet on the Western Front to exaggerate the brutal nature of war. Remarque often
offsets these grotesque descriptions with portrayals of nature and everyday beauty, and utilizes
this juxtaposition of war and nature to portray the true horror of war. When Paul Baumer
describes the significance of the latrines and how they provide a distraction for the men from the
war, he paints a picture in the reader s mind of a beautiful carefree meadow filled with flowers and
butterflies, but the reader can infer that danger still lurks at a distance... Show more content on

This example of juxtaposition serves to show that even though there may be some calm moments
in battle where everything feels as though it s normal, the soldiers can never truly leave the
battle. As the days go by and the death toll rises, Paul Baumer and his comrades still find ways to
laugh, such as the situation with Haie and his driving bands, and they still find the beauty in the
midst of war, though this optimism will not last for long as the war become more intense with
each passing day. One morning, Baumer notices two butterflies playing in front of their trench, and
they eventually settle on the teeth of a skull , juxtaposing natural beauty with ghastly imagery
(Remarque 127). Baumer also notices that the birds and larks who were nesting a year ago, their
young have all grown up; the irony behind this is that even animals have been given a chance to
grow old and start families but the soldiers, the young men, are cut down in their prime. Remarque

EU Design
EU Design s Rise in the Apparel and Fashion Industry
Current Management Style EU Design s management style was founded in a very small business
environment. There was little standardization of individual tasks. In a small business, everyone on
staff is expected to be involved in all day to day business activities. This creates a very informal
relationship between workers and management. In addition to the small business aspect, EU
Design is in a creative industry. Many of the people in this industry are not trained or educated in
formal business practices. A creative mindset takes precedence over the structure of the business.

Regular videoconference meetings with the staff of both offices can be implemented. Given the
time difference one office would have to come in very early or the other office would stay late.
This may be difficult but should be adhered to so all employees are receiving the same
information. This could be tried on a monthly basis. These meetings would help to create a more
cohesive environment between New York and Hong Kong. This would also give the Hong Kong
office a chance to provide requested feedback to New York. As a supplement, an online open
forum for questions from one office can be posted and answered by the other office when it opens.
Incentive Systems
Currently there is no formal incentive system. Many of the rewards are based on Berardi s
perception of employee performance. If he does not have the opportunity to have direct
communication with all employees, it is a possibility that he is not able to appropriately assess
individual performances. The employees themselves felt that above standard performance was not
always noted. This sometimes resulted in sub optimal achievements being recognized while the
employee going the extra mile was getting passed over.
A new incentive system must include a formal evaluation method of employee performance. In
order to evaluate, official job descriptions must be written to use as a benchmark. These descriptions
give the employees the framework within which to efficiently

Implementation And Reporting For Hedge Accounting Essay
Research Memorandum
To: CEO, Thomas Foods
From:
Date: December 12, 2015
RE: Implementation and Reporting for Hedge Accounting
Facts:
Thomas Foods wishes to insulate the company from the financial blow of large increases in the
prices of produce from local farmers. The main factor that would cause this unexpected change in
price that Thomas Foods should be concerned with is the possible fluctuation of weather conditions.
Thomas Foods is interested in determining whether or not hedge accounting would be the best
solution to protect the company s operating income. If the company elects to implement a hedge
accounting system, the Controller of the company must be informed of the accounting treatments
involved when dealing with cash flow and fair value hedge accounting, the two most common
forms of hedge accounting.
Issues:
1.Will implementing a hedging strategy help to alleviate the risks of price increases and benefit
Thomas Foods financially when it comes to purchasing produce from local farmers?
2.Which hedge accounting strategy or alternative method will be most beneficial to Thomas Foods
and ensure minimal loss in operating income?
3.How can the accounting treatments of the newly implemented strategy be best explained to the
Controller of Thomas Foods?
Conclusions:
1.Hedge accounting strategies are best implemented when dealing with transactions from the
original source. In this particular situation, the local farmer would be considered the original source
because he

English Bill Of Rights Essay
Not to be confused with the American Bill of Rights, the English Bill of Rights was written in
1689. What they really were was an act declaring the rights and liberties of the subject and settling
the succession of the crown. Like the Magna Carta, the Bill of Rights is a basic and fundamental
document of the constitution law in England. The reason for the bill of rights was to ensure and
guarantee the safety of the human rights that the citizens were ought to have. The bill of rights
reduced the power the monarch had on the civilians, and gave the civilians more power towards the
monarchs.
The English Bill of Rights came after the defeat of King James II and the crowning of William III
and Mary as the new joint rulers of England. Some of these rights included the rights to bear arms,

so it happens that the people don t like the way they are being governed, then by law, they can

The Bill of Rights hasn t only had a positive effect on England, but they also influenced other
countries to create Bill of Rights of their own. The Kingdom of Scotland also had a similar
document written in 1689, United States of America also has a similar concept of the Bill of Rights.
Its influence can also be seen in the United Nations Declaration of Human rights and the European
Convention on Human rights. All of these countries had a similar problem, too much power
belonging to one person without the system of checks and balances.
The Bill of rights were intended not only to ensure basic human rights to the Englishmen, but to
also limit the power that the monarch had on the people. The Englishmen had already learned a lot
from the previous kings, and they knew a constitutional document was needed to save the people
from an absolute

Bernard Williams Psychological Continuity
If on Tuesday, I suffer an accident and lose all of my memory, it is probable that my family and
friends will still love and care for me, creating an impression that I am indeed the same person I
once was. These conditions imply the theses of animalism and bodily continuity when it comes to
personal identity. However, is this human habit enough to discard the idea that it is psychological
continuity that sustains identity? Whilst many may argue that it would be against our intuition to
say that I am no longer the same person, I do not believe that this is caused by our intuition, but
instead a societal construct that s sole purpose is to make the trauma of the accident and loss easier
to deal with. By using this premise and upholding the psychological... Show more content on

Bernard Williams, initially illustrates psychological continuity in his paper The Self and the Future
with the example that if one was to undergo a brain transplant, your memories and other mental
features, the resulting person would be convinced that he or she was you . Williams describes how
persons A and B are changing bodies, then A chooses that the B body person should get the pleasant
treatment and the A body person the unpleasant treatment . Through Williams phrasing this notion
seems like the intuitive choice to pick, given that if we are switching bodies, then (if I am A), I
assume that I am now inhabiting the B body person. Using this premise, it seems clear that I am
only what stems from my memories, thus I am identified by my psychological continuity; on the
surface, this seems difficult to contest. However, Williams, goes on to illustrate how in the premise
of this argument there is an assumption. Williams defines the thought experiment again, but
depersonalises person B, and instead claims that changes in his character are produced, and at the
same time certain illusory memory beliefs are induced in him; this is essentially the same process
as what happen in the first instance, however, Williams refrains from referring to what happens to
the second person. Consequently, person A does not wish for the A body person to be tortured,
even though given the conclusion form the first example this body now contains a different person.
Given person A s emotive response, it would perhaps appear that, despite the lack of psychological
continuity, the A body person may in fact still be person A; therefore, psychological continuity may
not be an appropriate way to claim someone is the same person. Nevertheless, can we genuinely
claim that this emotive response can create a genuine criticism for this psychological continuity,
therefore

The Personal Effects Of Plastic Surgery
The Personal Effects of Plastic Surgery
Plastic surgery dates back to somewhere around 2000 B.C. and has only advanced since that time.
Today people all over the world get these procedures done for many reasons. Some reasoning
behind individuals getting plastic surgery is to fix a birth defect, deformability, or for cosmetic
purposes. In today s society, getting plastic surgery for cosmetics purposes is very popular but
with that comes many negative comments or thoughts towards that person getting these
surgeries. Cosmetic surgery impact not just the person receiving it but everyone that sees those
new features or changes. In the world we now live in I think body image is a big factor in many
people s lives. A lot of people do not always feel comfortable in their own skin because of the
different models and actresses or actors seen on television. I think when we see those different
people on television or on the internet, we think that s how we should be able to look, this can
make people have negative thoughts about their own body. In all reality, most of those people we
see on television, magazines and social networks; almost all of those people have had some sort of
plastic surgery to change their appearance. While these people change themselves they can send
thousands of dollars on just one procedure. When someone has had over ten procedure done to
themselves that dollar amount really starts to add up and that s just of the negative effects of
getting plastic surgery.

Existentialism in Art
Existentialism is highly regarded when it comes to artists and artwork. Sartre is a well known
prominent advocate in the post war period. Sartre wrote essays about artists work which helped
viewers translate philosophy into visual art and by doing this viewers are able to understand the
reasons behind the artwork and along with the understanding comes a deeper appreciation for
the art. If man is unexplainable it is because we make ourselves so if he is indefinable it is
because at first he is nothing (Sartre) he must create who he will be.( www.theartstory.org)
Sartre spoke these words to the artwork of the post war period. Jean Dubuffet and Wols art work
is able to address the coexistence of mind and body on which humans need. Ponty believes that
art does not have to be perfect and symmetrical its science does not have to be exact as long as it
captures the eye of the observers than it has done its job correctly. Existentialismin art is for the
artist to be completely free with every stroke of the hand. The art of the artist is dependent on the
time and place in which the artist is born. Following the first and second World Wars, the decades
of fighting and relentless political turmoil it comes as no surprise that a philosophy that invokes
man, the individual s existence at its core had such an extensive following. This is why
existentialist art flourishes after times of war because people want to express their feeling of
freedom and the importance of the individual.

Compare And Contrast Jamestown And Plymouth Colonies
Another component comparing Jamestown and Plymouth colonies would be their aspects on
Indian relations. The English colonists arrived in Chesapeake Bay where the Powhatan Indians had
been calling home for quite some time. There were over thirty Indian tribes totaling 14,000 Indians.
This is where the first colony, Jamestown, was settled in 1607. I believe this created a lot of
tension between the Indians and the new settlers considering the previous settling and attacks of the
Spanish on the Indians. The Indians lived such a generous way of life welcoming the new English
settlers by offering them food. However, the good intentions faded quickly after. The leader of the
PowhatanIndians, Powhatan, was intending to entice the English through generosity and their
selfless attitudes. Sure enough, this act of kindness was overlooked by the English colonists,
and they immediately began searching for wealth such as tobacco. As we have spoken about in
class, Jamestown was a colony that significantly valued material objects and wealth; whereas
Plymouth colony did not focus their rule around that idea. The new colonists were so set on
acquiring wealth that they failed to grow crops such as corn and beans. This led the English to
depend more on the Indians for food since the Indians were very successful farmers and knew how
to live off the land. John Smith s leadership swooped in and saved the colony of Jamestown. He
conducted means of exploring the land and gathering

Environmental Resources Of Port River Estuary
Introduction
An estuary is semi enclosed bay where sea water mixes with freshwater. They are home to 70%
of the world s marine life. The port river estuary defines the areas of North Haven, outer harbour,
barker inlet, Torrens Island, the St Kilda mangroves and other areas near to the coastline. It is
located approximately 20km north west of the city of Adelaide. The following report will discuss
the environmental resources and humans have affected the local ecosystems.
Environmental Resources of the Port River Estuary
The Port River Estuary has a wide variety of natural resources. This is mainly due to its large
size. The Port River Estuary has a 346km2 catchment. In the catchment there are about 6.3km2 of
salt marshes, 7.2km2 of mudflat area and 17km2 of mangroves. The Port River Estuary supports
the growth of seagrass, some ground vegetation and many different varieties of fish. Some of the
main fish species that use the Estuary for a habitat are king gorge whiting, yellow fin whiting and
southern sea garfish. The estuary also supports about 57 different species of waterbirds and some

Dengue Fever Personal Statement
I grew up in a family of doctors and engineers so my interests were naturally shaped around the
sciences. However, my dad was the black sheep of the family who decided to pursue business. I
remember listening to his phone calls about product development, marketing and accounting and
although at the age of eight I had no idea what he was talking about, he gradually pulled my
interests into the world of business. In a way, I could say I had the best of both worlds.
Although I was often told that studying science and business was unfocused and unnecessarily
challenging, I disagreed completely. I was engrossed in dissections, the immune system and
neurology during biology and the colorful yet sometimes dangerous experiments during chemistry.

Living in the tropical island of Sri Lanka meant heavy exposure to mosquitoes and Dengue fever is
a horrifying yet rather common disease that most Sri Lankans suffer from at least once in their
lifetime. I remember when it was my turn. I was diagnosed at a time where dengue fever was at
a peak high in Sri Lanka and my parents struggled to find me a room at a hospital because so
many patients were admitted due to dengue fever. Although I was fortunate enough to find a room
eventually, I remember passing the children in the hospital hallways who could not find a vacant
room. Why don t people understand that there is a huge demand for better healthcare that isn t
being met? I thought. As I lay in my bed surrounded by the four white walls of my room, I realized
that this was only in Colombo, where most people had access to healthcare. Imagine the dengue
patients in other areas of Sri Lanka, poverty stricken areas. They did not have access to
healthcare in their regions. Although I felt lucky enough to have a bed to sleep on and doctors at
my footstep, I could not sleep peacefully at night knowing that somewhere in a shanty town,
another girl like me could be suffering from dengue fever too but she is probably sleeping on the
sandy floor of her hut hoping praying that she will be

Androgyny And The Third Gender Essay
Androgyny and the third gender are present in many cultures and each combination of masculine
and feminine qualities make it a unique phenomenon that is on an individual basis. Since ancient
times to present day, the idea of the third gender has been discussed by many scholars, as well as
what gender truly can be defined as. It is undeniable that androgyny has become more mainstream
as of recent, especially with help from the fashion industry in the early 2000s when they began to
employ androgynous models as well as designing androgynous clothing. Since this third genderis
finally receiving more recognition, it is important to understand where the term comes from, and
how it exists in many cultures. In this paper, I intend on exploring the history of androgyny, discuss
figures that have analyzed typical gender roles, present the multitude of cultures that have a third
gender, and finally examine the fashion industry s relationship with androgyny.
The definition of androgyny is being partly male and partly female in appearance, and of
indeterminate sex. The origin of the word comes from the Greek terms andros for man and gyne
for woman. Individuals consider themselves androgynous usually either exhibit behavioral
androgyny, where they adopt the roles or activities associate with the opposite gender or
psychological androgyny, where they have ambiguity regarding gender or sexual identity. There are
three distinct forms of this third identity. The first is biological sex,

Odysseus Reflection
Odysseus is a roman warrior that spent his whole life trying to find his home and family at a
place names Ithaca. He spent a solid ten years on the sea for this same objective. His son
Telechamus is a full grown man trying to follow his fathers footsteps and his wife Penelope has
been overwhelmed with suitors wishing to marry her so they can gain the wealth of Odysseus.
Gaining the wealth of Odysseus will give them more power than they already have. For the seven
out of the ten years he has been searching in the Mediterranean Sea until he got ambushed and
held by his own free will by the goddess calypso. Luckily Zeus sends a god to tell her to release

This is a start because Odysseus don t know what could be out there but still he putting his life
before the men on his crew. At the same time, he wasn t just their running into stuff he thinks
before he did any action. He gave some his men orders to guard the ship and go with him. This
show another quality a leader has; a leader always thinks situations out before doing anything
stupid and they give orders to their allies. On the top paragraph on 378 the cyclops killed the
people from try and made him his meal. Odysseus was sickened of seeing something like that. He
now got an experience of what would happen if he messes up. Instead of attacking him then and
there he thinks smart and planned to kill him in the morning since it would be difficult to move

worked better than he expected.
Odysseus tricked the cyclops into drinking the wine then while he was defenseless and weak,
Odysseus took action and he got his men help him and tie him up until he got to the cyclops head.
He then stuck the sword in the eye of the cyclopes. The cyclopes then screamed and back up with

Marcus Tullius Cicero s Speeches
Throughout the ages, leaders have spoken out during times of crisis to try and unite people.
Marcus Tullius Cicero and George W. Bush are no exception to this trope. In Cicero s first speech
against Catiline, he related the horrible crimes Catiline was planning to commit. During his tenure
in office, Bush experienced a terrorist event on September 11, 2001, when the world trade center
had been destroyed, and he addressed Congress on this matter nine days later. While Ciceros speech
entails an event that was foiled, Bush s speech provides facts and support in the aftermath of a
traumatic situation. In this essay, I am going to compare the rhetorical devices implemented by
both individuals, how they are able to develop their arguments, and some... Show more content on

Cicero and Bush have analogous ethos and pathos, as they were both leaders in their communities,
and their listeners would have been shocked to hear about the events entailed in both of their
speeches. Cicero and Bush also have different perspectives in their arguments. Cicero relies on his
first hand experience in the matter, as Catiline planned to kill him. This allows him to connect with
his audience on a personal level. Meanwhile, Bush did not have to convince his audience that an
event was going to take place. Instead, he was able to put blame on a specific group for the terrorist
act, and provide information about their tactics and connections. This strategy works to inform the
public about possible future dangers. The strategies that Cicero and Bush employ in their language
diverge as well. Cicero tends to repeat words with negative connotations, so that it would be
ingrained in people s minds, while Bush tends to use simpler language that everyone can
understand. However, they both use questions in their speeches to switch ideas and catch the
attention of their listeners. They also both employ opposing language in their speeches to
distinguish right from wrong. While these two individuals both address disturbing historical events
in their speeches, they present their material in the most effective way to suit their

Extended Response Kusado Sengen
The discovery of Kusado Sengen in 1928, a long forgotten medieval Japanese town that once used
to be suited near Seto Inland Sea and the mouth of Ashida River, was significant to the historian s
understanding medieval Japan because it changed historians beliefs on medieval Japan through the
many artifacts and remains it has left. These include pottery, coinage and a collection of wooden
objects.
In 1928, a large amount of pottery, coins, imported goods, tools and other artifacts were discovered
during the process of re routing Ashida River. These discoveries lead many historians to believe that

Historians and Archaeologists discovered many pottery that can be traced back to distant villages in
Japan and even China which tells historians that Kusado Sengen was probably connected to
wide regions of Asia through Seto Inland Sea. Source C (pottery) is a Tokoname Ware jar that

that Japan had clay, knew how to turn it into ceramics. Archaeologist were also able to find some

Measures Employee training revolves around building strong teams, establishing rules, and
connecting with the company. To measure this, a previously used composite measure of
questions would be used that ensures content validity. These questions will have five response
options that go from strongly agree (6) to strongly disagree (1) (Chiang, Back, and Canter 2005:
105). Some questions have the answers of: always (5), usually (4), sometimes (3), rarely (2),
never (1) (Chiang et al. 2005: 105 106). The responses to each of questions are then averaged to
create a scale, and a higher value means the more impact employee training has had on the
individual. This approach is preferable because there will be an understanding of the impact
training has had on the thoughts of employees. There are no drawbacks. Questions for Employee
Training (Chiang et al. 2005: 105): 1.The company clearly communicates its goals and strategies
to me? 2.My responsibilities are clear. 3.I feel motivated to see the company succeed. 4.I received
enough employee training to feel connected to the company s mission. 5.Do you feel that
employees are recognized as individuals? Dress codes are conceptualized as a factor that creates a

artificial chymotrypsin with the binding site of cyclodextrin with the catalytic site of an
imidazolyl group, a carboxylic acid and a hydroxyl acid. The synthetic chymotrypsin has a
reduced molecular weight and they believed that the real and artificial enzyme had the same
catalytic activity. The model enzyme as seen in figure 1 has a molecular weight of 1365 g mol 1
and is made up of 24 serine proteases. The active site is only known through X ray crystallography
and because of this knowledge surrounding the mechanism is limited. The crystallography data
shows the proposed mechanism involves three main molecules in the active site. These are serine

The rate of dioxins in the blood can be correlated with some diseases, especially the diabete. So we
have little disposal, but we can reduce our consumption with prevention, for example. Destruction
of PCBs is not easy without contaminating the environment and human populations because,
without specific treatment, the fumes generated by the incineration of household waste are a
significant source of dioxin rejection and contaminate the food chain (grass, air , Water, animals,
products of animal origin). It is therefore necessary to treat them as hazardous waste by incinerating
at high temperatures. Incineration is a process of thermal oxidation at high temperature in which
pesticide molecules are decomposed into unburnt gases and solids. Prevention can reduce the risk
of exposure. Analytical improvements have improved the detection sensitivity of dioxins, the
identification of sources and emission conditions, thus promoting prevention. Lastly, it is possible
for humans to reduce body burden by degreasing meat, by consuming low fat dairy products,
having a balanced diet. However, the possible reduction is rather limited. In view of all this, it can
be said that dioxins have several effects on the human body,

The Possible Causes of Cleft Lip and Palate
Cleft lip and/or palate is a condition where the tissue of the lip did not completely close during
embryotic formation that affects 1 in 700 people born. Though not immediately fatal, the
disorder can cause complications with consuming and speech that could lead to more serious
problems. The only way to fix the gap is to surgically go in and sew the two sides of the lip
/palate together; this is a comparable easier and faster solution than other solutions out there for
different disorders. Many people who get the surgery recover fine, have slight physical
differences, and are able to succeed in society like anyone else (condition does not hinder mental
state or ability drastically). This condition has many different phenotypes that fall in two
categories, unilateral cleft and bilateral cleft (Dixon et al., 2011). In a unilateral cleft, only one
side of the palate or lip is affected (asymmetrical) while in a bilateral cleft, both sides are affected
usually in a symmetric pattern. Because of the large range of phenotypes, it is very difficult to
trace back to certain genes and factors and figure out how these factors together influence the
expression of the trait. Cleft lip and/or palate can be expressed by itself, called non syndromic, or
with other conditions including Kabuki syndrome, called syndromic (Dixon et al., 2011).
Depending on the type of disorder, this condition is caused by different chromosomes and mutations
on these chromosomes. For example, if it is indeed

Analysis Of Juicy By Christopher Wallace
All over the world many have gone through or are still going through the struggle of being in
poverty. You don t have to be homeless to be struggling, it could be just not have lights on in your
home, past due rent, or maybe not having enough or anything at all to eat. Many have felt like just
because they go through this that they will never be anything because they don t have the
resources to accomplish anything in life, and other people around you who doubt you can make
you believe even more that you will never amount to anything in life. Christopher Wallace aka The
Notorious B.I.G. or Biggie small s song Juicy, released in 1994 from his Ready to Diealbum, selling
over 607,000 copies is a great example of all of this. He tells this exact story through his song
about how people used to doubt him and even goes on to tell about his life in the struggle and
coming up from it.
Biggie makes it known throughout his entire song that he isn t ashamed of how he grew up
before the wealth. I think his main point was to let people know that he will never forget and
that it s the lessons he learned during those times that undisguisable got him to where he is now.
Throughout the entire song Biggie tells us little parts of his past like Remember when I used to

times where would have eat like this because it was all that he had. Now honestly he didn t always

Dog Whistling Is A Term Used By Politicians
Dog Whistle Politics is a term used by politicians to persuade the people by gaining their votes
into a political position of power. Dog Whistling has been used for years by politicians to
achieve what they want while campaigning for public offices. Politicians have been
maneuvering and scheming for years during elections for the peoples vote. They have always
put on a show for the people just to receive their vote. They set their sights on an office of public
position and they begin a long and hard working race to gain votes. Dog whistling is just a
different way for them to use codes or demonstrate to certain people to what they are really
trying to say. Politicians portray a good and upright demeanor. It s part of their job. During their
campaign for a specific position, they make promises to the people, they put time into well
thought out and written speeches, they research every city and the population during the
campaign tour and it is all to persuade the vast majority of people for their vote. It deals with
race as well. Dog Whistling and racism seem to go hand in hand because it s dealing with race.
Racism has been in politics for years. Dog Whistling is just a word used to speak to a certain
group of people in code. Racism is still imbedded in us as people because we cannot treat each

still current in today s society. The author in this book uses Dog Whistle Politics

The Pros And Cons Of Smoking In Public Places
Smoking Should Be Banned In Public Places
Most of the time non smokers happen to be at places where people are allowed to smoke publicly,
one will agree that the habit is irritating. Many different states in the United States and the world as
a whole have drafted laws to control the habit of public smoking (Dugan, 2013). Some countries or
states have gone ahead to ban smoking in public entirely. The move to ban smoking in public is a
prudent one, because it will help save countless lives. The reasons behind the prohibition on
smoking in public are that the habit affects non smokers as well as put their lives in danger and
this is equal to effects that smoking has on the active smoker.
Smoking in public puts the lives of non smokers at risk. In simple terms, the second hand smoke
that the active smoker exhales can cause health side effects to the non smoker. Research has shown
that the second hand smoke contains more than seven thousand different chemicals that are toxic
and among these chemicals, seventy are cancer causing chemicals (U.S. Department of Health
Human Services n.p.). This means that being exposed to this smoke is not safe at all as you inhale
the toxic chemicals. These toxic chemicals are present even when one inhales a little passed ... Show

What should be done is that the government needs to come up with smoking zones so that people
who want to smoke can do it at these places. The banning of public smoking can impact negatively
on businesses such as bars and restaurant that permit people to smoke (Sullum, 1998). The banning
of smoking would also keep away people from visiting the places leading them to carry their
smoking habits home and this equally has bad effects on the family members. Similarly, based on
the fact that smoking tobacco is legal, the government needs not to control its consumption by
restricting smokers. Smokers are all adults, and it is their choice to

Whether it is a fight for his life, winning a quidditch match, or just staying out of trouble, these
novels are anything but boring. This I believe, is one of the biggest reasons why these books
have been such a success, the author knows how to keep the story going at all times in order to
maintain the readers attention. Another factor which I believe has led to the novels success is
that while reading, the reader wishes that they could live in this fantasy world created by
Rowling where life is anything but ordinary. The novels make the reader somewhat desire a life
like the one led by the characters of the novels, like going to a school to learn wizarding, always

One such reason why it would be beneficial for a child to be home schooled is to teach values and
morals to the child. Children often learn things at a young age that they should not know; such as

Field experiences provide learning experiences that can not be found in text books
(HSLDA.com). Also having a wide age range of students can benefit both the younger and older
students, since it is possible that both age groups can learn to appreciate each other as well as
learn from one another. There is less pressure on the student who is home schooled since they
have as much time as they need to do the assignment. If a child is ahead in their studies, they do
not have to wait to other students, but a home schooled child can move on and become more
productive When a child is home schooled they are able to go at a pace that is best for them.
However, when deciding whether to place a child in a public school or whether to home school a
child, it is best to take into account the possible cons of home schooling. The parent, now teacher,
must keep in mind that their job is to educate their child. All other career possibilities or aspirations
must be put on hold. The parent s main focus must now be on educating their child. The parent
must be willing to take out the time and energy to devote themselves to education.
Also, the curriculum has become increasingly harder over the years. Children are being taught
certain concepts must earlier than in the past. The parent must keep in mind that they may not have
had the same degree of education in each and every subject. It may

Adrienne Rich Storm Warnings
Storm Warning by Adrienne Rich is a poem in which the speaker describes an oncoming storm
and expresses her feelings about how to deal with the problems she faces because of the storm.
The poem s imagery and structure help convey the speaker s attitude of perseverance towards
hardships and problems that life often throws her way. In her poem she explores the connection
between physical and emotional storms and how they are both inevitable.
The tone of the first sestet in Storm Warning is a foreboding sense of an unknown doom. The
speaker seems to be unsure of what lies ahead but feels. The speaker describes how the unrest has
affected the enviornmemt around her but it feels as if the speaker is waiting for the other shoe to

The Boxer Rebellion Essay
Throughout the nineteenth century China s emperors watched as foreign powers began to
encroach closer and closer upon their land. Time after time, China was forced to make
embarrassing concessions. Foreign militaries more modernly armed would constantly defeat the
imperial armies. As the dawn of a new century was about to begin, Empress Tsu Hsi of the Ch ing
Dynasty searched for a way of ridding her empire of the foreign invaders. Germany, Great Britain,
France, Italy, Japan, and Russia all claimed sole trading points to their selected spheres of influence.
Some of these countries even claimed that the territory that lay within their spheres was their own.
With the United States recent acquisition of the Philippines, they too were... Show more content on

Should the strong enemies become aggressive and press us to consent to things we can never
accept, we have no alternative but to rely upon the justice of our cause. If our hundreds of
millions of inhabitants would prove their loyalty to their emperor and love their country, what is
there to fear from any invader? Let us not think about making peace. (Wu Yang 48) In the
northernmost Shandong province, few people were thinking about making peace. A secret
society, known as the Fists of Righteous Harmony, attracted thousands of recruits. Outsiders
called members of this society Boxers because they practiced martial arts. The Boxers also
believed they had magical powers and could not be harmed. Their cause, at first was to overthrow
the imperial Ch ing government and expel all the foreign devils. The Boxers changed direction
when they received support of Qing officials and a crafty Empress. The Boxers new slogan would
become. Support the Ch ing destroy the foreigner! (Yale 212) Without restraining leadership or
organization the Boxers began in early 1900 to raid outposts and symbols of western influence,
including missions and foreign missionaries. The Boxers employed brutal attacks during their raids,
including hacking men and women with swords, burning them alive and sometimes dragged and
tortured through howling mobs before their execution. Nervous foreign ministers demanded

SWOT ANALYSIS OF THE CHAPLAINCY DUTIES FROM 1200 1600AD Chaplainskept the
faith by holding on to the be, know, do concept between the 1200s and the 1600s AD. Being a
practitioner of faith meant applying the rites commanders and the papacy authorized as a mission
requirement. Knowing meant priests were to have a thorough knowledge of the rites of penance,

Weakness Once governments saw the potential for victory for its political gain, the chaplaincy
began to weaken and divide. For example, the War in England as written in pamphlets described the
role of the chaplain during that time. Their job in this role was to sustain men who had to face
their neighbors in a war over political and religious differences. [3] Some chaplains were used to
control the spread of heterodox religious views, while others left the military in pursuit of doing
what is right, and preaching the true message of God. This departure from the military added to
the weakness of the chaplaincy. Another weakness, chaplains were wrongly accused or labeled as
evil, when it fact, laymen were the culprits. It was laymen such as Henry Denne and Paul Hobson
who gave the army a reputation for radical sectarianism; the further association of religious radicals
with the chaplains was almost entirely independent of the chaplains themselves[4].
Opportunities
Valuable lessons learned about chaplains during this given time period is that the need to administer
God in truth to all people provided a means of opportunity for the chaplaincy. When shortages of
chaplains occurred, governments selected priests with no military affiliation. And for chaplains
who stayed behind in their parishes, governments imposed special instructions as well. For
example, Benedict the Levite insisted that clerics celebrate masses, carry out

The Video Examined Two Individuals With A Profound Loss Of...
The cybersenses video examined two individuals with a profound loss of hearing and vision.
The first individual was a little girl named Kelly who became death due to a disease that
impaired her hair cells in her cochlea. Growing up she received a hearing aid, however the
device got progressively worse. She explained to the producers that she could slightly hear some
noise but nothing was definite anymore, and all she wanted in life was to actually hear noise
such as the running river and fully talk to her family. Due to her circumstance doctors decided to
perform a surgery to permanently fix or better her hearing. For Kelly s surgery doctors decided to
permanently implant electrodes into her ear, by attaching an electrode array into the inner ear
(cochlea) and a receiver which is placed behind the ear. By doing this each device will be connected
to a magnet and an antenna making sound signals channel through her brain. Overall Kelly s
surgery is successful and with speech therapy Kelly is able to talk and hear noises that she was
not really able to before. After watching Kelly and analyzing the actual surgery of the cochlea
implant, the inner ear and how we receive signals makes more sense. To be honest I had to watch
this video multiple times and look up ways they perform the surgery to get a better overall
understanding. However thinking about how we pick up noise and hear sound differs between
each individual, such as light. It all depends on our hair cells, which

It makes me feel when I can help other people feel good. I do it now out of the kindness of my
heart, why not get paid for it? Counseling is not a hard job, if you are good at talking to people.
You have to make your client feel comfortable talking to you, and I do that all the timewith my

Now that I have had this set for a few months, I can say it has met all my expectations. Other
reviewers have commented on the difficulty of cleaning it. I had some trouble in the beginning.
It was mostly due to the fact that this set heats up much faster than I was used to and I had to
adjust temperature settings and timings accordingly. Having knowledge of the smoking points of

The Use of Symbols to Express a Theme
The Use of Symbols to Express a Theme
John Steinbeck, in The Chrysanthemums expresses the theme through the use of symbols. The
events in The Chrysanthemums take place in the Salinas Valley and focuses on Elisa Allen, her
loneliness, and her attempt to communicate with others. In this story, Steinbeck uses various
symbols to express the theme, which states that true communication must flow in both directions.
The most important symbol in the story, the chrysanthemum, strongly expresses the theme as it
represents the story as a whole. Additionally, the specific characteristics of the flowerthemselves
symbolize different events in the story. In this story, Steinbeck relates the characteristics of the
chrysanthemum to various events ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the story, Steinbeck has Henry Allen, Elisa s husband, comment on the size of the
chrysanthemums. Henry sees the chrysanthemums and states that they are a strong new crop . To
this she agrees. He later comments on the smaller size of some of the other organisms in her garden
and how he wishes that they could be larger like the chrysanthemums. In this section, we get the
sense that the chrysanthemums are the strongest, healthiest, and biggest plants in her garden.
Instantly we sense the connection between the chrysanthemums and Elisa. Elisa, like the
chrysanthemums, has strong and healthy characteristics. Additionally, Elisa and the
chrysanthemums are the only things in the story that have common characteristics; therefore it is
safe to say that the chrysanthemums symbolize Elisa. The petals of the chrysanthemums are
symbolic as well. Steinbeck relates this symbol to major occurrences in his story. The
chrysanthemums have been raised and nurtured by Elisa, stand tall and strong, and are 10 inches
wide . The chrysanthemums are giving all they can and are the biggest they can be. Steinbeck
relates this symbol to Henry and Elisa s relationship and the interaction between the salesman and
Elisa. In the beginning of the story we see the condition of Elisa s and Henry s relationship. We
first see Henry ...talking to two men in business suits . We get the sense that Henry is a hard
working man and is greatly involved in his work. After

Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress 4 Essay
Storytelling can be found in every corner of the world. It is used to pass the time, tell of past or
current events, and is the way that we communicate with each other. In Balzac and the little
Chinese Seamstress, by Dai Sijie, storytelling occurs during times of hopelessness when life seems
hard and allows the characters to live vicariously through the tales told. The narrator and Luo use
storytelling as an escapefrom reality in times of desperation. The tailor is influenced by the stories
to the point where he changes the style of clothinghe creates to escape the boundaries of Mao

Essay on The Problems With Low Carbohydrate and Low Fat...
The Problems With Low Carbohydrate and Low Fat Diets
The low carbohydrate diets and the low fat diets both claim to be successful methods of losing
weight and staying healthy. Both diet plans also attempt to carry out their goals by restricting what
dieters can and cannot eat in relation to what is recommended by the US Department of Agriculture
(USDA). Through altering what nutritionists suggest for a healthy regime, low carbohydrate and
low fat meal plans potentially put dieters at a higher risk for developing health problems and
diseases. Also, diet plans do not necessarily accomplish their goals when maintained over a long
period of time.

The low carbohydrate diets recognize this and suggest that by nearly eliminating carbohydrates
from the diet, it will prevent the human body from accumulating too much fat, and will force the
body to burn already stored fats and proteins for energy instead. Low fat diets, on the other hand,
claim that fatty foods are much easier to convert to body fat compared to carbohydrates. They also
contend that complex carbohydrates are a better source of energy for the body, due to the fact that
the body takes a longer amount of time to digest and thus process the carbohydrates.
Altering the recommended nutritional schedule implies potential health risks and problems.
Since the low carb diets like Atkins largely restricts the amount of carbohydrate intake, it limits
along with it beneficial chemicals found in carbohydrates such as flavonoids, carotenoids, and
antioxidants, that may help prevent heart disease, cancer, and other disorders.1 Also, a decrease
of carbohydrates greatly increases the risk of osteoporosis which can lead to bone fractures,
spinal collapse and nerve damage. The increase in fatty foods that results from the Atkins diet is
also potentially harmful, and can increase the risk of heart disease and raises cholesterol levels.
The increase of carbohydrate intake recommended by the low fat diets, however, can elevate blood
sugar and blood fat amounts. This is also hazardous, particularly for individuals who are diabetic or

Third Grade Difficulties
When I was in the third grade I felt as if I didn t fit in anywhere. During the third grade I always
felt very different than the other kids. I remember begging my mom not to make me go to
school because I didn t want to feel out of place. I had gone to three different schools before
going to East Somerville Community School. My parents were trying to find the town that had
the best education system. I didn t move for my parents job or anything like that, just simply to
go to a better school. I normally didn t have a problem making new friends, I usually made a
bunch of friends just on the first day. I usually adapted to the school easily. I attended a bilingual
school for English and Spanish speaking kids. I have always been fluent in spanish for as long
as I could remember even though english is my first language. That wasn t the problem. All the
other kids had started to read and write spanish in kindergarten, and I had to learn everything in
just a short amount of time, and it was difficult for me. People didn t play with me or want to be
around me, I didn t know why. I could see their dislike towards me and it was very obvious. They
would try and act as if they truly did like me but they clearly didn t. It was like they felt sorry for
me and I didn t want their pity. I was never invited to parties or sleepovers, that the normal eight
year old girl has. I spent most of my time alone. At school I would usually sit in the back of the
class. Back then, I

Descriptive Essay On The San Juan Mountains
Every place has a taste. My highschool tastes bland, and a little bit like a cracker beginning to go
stale. My home tastes like sunlight on autumn leaves. Every place has a taste, but I will never forget
the taste of the majesty of the San Juan Mountains.
The first time I laid eyes upon the San Juan Mountains, I couldn t believe that I was only a few
miles away from the cold desert that is Colorado. The further into the rugged mountain range the
highway led me, the more awe and disbelief fell upon me. I felt small, and as if I was the first
person to ever discover those hidden valleys that support entire ecosystems of plants and
animals. The scattered puffs of cloud above me painted shadows along the razor edged peaks,
giving an appearance of a mural, rather than massive chunks of rock carved away by the centuries.
I could hear nothing except for the pounding of far off waterfalls and the whispering of the pines,
who shared secrets that nobody but they would ever know. I felt like an intruder, and yet
welcomed. I was lost, but at home.
Around a bend, and out of the blue, there came a town. Even so far from the nearest city, the
town was butsling. Main Street was lined with colorful buildings restored from the Victorian era.
A two floor hotel, elegant even in it s old age, announced its presence at the corner of an
intersection. The stout brick walls stood fortified, defying the valley winds. The occasional house
could be seen through the tightly packed boutiques, shops, and art galleries. One was baby blue
and white, another, the color of dried saffron. Further on down Main Street, natural hot springs
revealed themselves. People of every age packed into the heated pools. A vicious game of
volleyball had commenced, and more people were flocking to the net even in the second it took to
drive past. Eventually, the quaint Main Street ended, and the highway led the car through several
switchbacks that twisted up the side of the valley. At the top, a weather worn sign named the town
Ouray , and the sight below was one to behold. Ouray spread through the bowl formed when rivers
and mountains collide, spreading to the edges until not a shed more could ve been built. But the
highway kept leading, and the car kept

  • 2. Formal Approach to Thomas Gray s Elegy (Eulogy) Written... Formal Approach to Thomas Gray s Elegy (Eulogy) Written in a Country Churchyard Thomas Gray s poem Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard is a very structured poem with a set number of lines per stanza, and a specific rhyme scheme throughout the entire poem. The poem focuses on Gray s thoughts while he visits a country churchyard, and ends with an epitaph written on one of the tombstones in the churchyard. The setting of a country churchyard automatically gives way to a small and unknown graveyard, and those that inhabit the graveyard are not going to be well known people in the community or in American history. Gray s form and style allow for the reader to see the churchyard he is in, and the metaphors and symbolism he uses open ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gray uses not only the form of the poem as symbolism, but he also uses the text to evoke images into the reader minds. Where heaves the turf in many a mould ring heap... (14). Grey s word choice in this line evokes an image of the graveyard and the different plots around him, and the aging of each of the graves in the graveyard. The molding of the plots gives the image of a piece of bread that has aged and become green and black with the mold. Grey also uses metaphors to get across the message of the poem: Full many a gem of purest ray serene The dark unfathom d caves of ocean bear: Full many a flower is born to blush unseen, And wastes its sweetness on the desert air.(53 56) This stanza becomes one of the focal points of the entire elegy. It is taking the metaphor of a bright object hidden behind a larger darker object. This metaphor shows that in life that the greatest things in life might never be seen or experienced, because they are never noticed or are so hidden from society so they will never become a part of society. This holds true for the greatest things in life whether it is a flower, gem, or person. Those things will not be noticed by society because they are so hidden in life that no one ever takes the time to stop and realize the beauty or full potential of that object. The point of view in the poem is form Gray s perspective as to what ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Analysis Of The Article The Us Constitution On June 17th 2015, in Charleston S.C., where the roads are named after confederate generals, 21 year old Dylann Roof wore a Rhodesian badge, as he shot nine african americans in the Emanuel Church in hope of igniting a civil war . (Jessica Glenza; The guardian) Previously that year Roof, had been arrested and banned from a public mall, in march for a drug charge and in April for trespassing. In his case file it states that he was found in possession of narcotics to treat his drug addiction. It was also noted that he had an obsessive compulsive disorder. However, despite these factors, Roof was still able to personally purchase the gun from a retail gun store in charleston because of lapses in the FBI background check system, (Ellen... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The United States has always a gun and hunting culture starting from the birth of the country itself. The men who fought in the war of independence were citizens who owned their own muskets. However the issue of gun control can be traced back to the Civil War, as new African American citizens needed to protect themselves from their previous owners in the south that would often hunt them down. The problematic of gun control have changed greatly due to the evolution of times. From the late twentieth century until today, gun control has been highly debated because of recurrent mass shootings, such as Columbine, such as Sandy Hook, such as Virginia Tech, such as San Bernardino, and such as Roseburg just to name a few. Many have pleaded for thorough background checks to prevent convicts or the mentally handicapped from owning guns, while others argue that US citizens should follow in the steps of advanced European countries and no longer possess these lethal weapons. Others who are often leaning to the right argue that this a fundamental right that defines americanism and shapes American pride and historic culture. However recurrent mass shootings are nothing to be proud of. The second amendment of the Constitution guarantees the right of every American to bear arms. Therefore many supporters of gun ownership have been using this right to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Memorable Scene Of Invictus Invictus Film review. If you are interested in history, drama, sport or all three combined, then this film is for you. Invictus, directed by Clint Eastwood, is a legendary sports biographical drama. Eastwood created the film with an intention of trying to show the power of sport and how rugby alone managed to unite the mighty nation of South Africa. The story of how the power of the sport alone was able to do this during the country s terrible post apartheid era is shown in this potential tearjerker. This included the high tension between civilians, which was due to racial discrimination and had been present for the previous 50 years as well. The inspirational Morgan Freeman plays the film s leading character, Nelson Mandela, who is the first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Clint Eastwood, the director, continued to display the relevance of the issue throughout the film. He allowed the viewer to understand the situation in more depth, and also encouraged them to realise the huge effect racism had within one country alone. Invictus is a film definitely worth viewing, with the cast staying very true to their roles, with the combined truth of the script. • 5. Expectancy Violation Theory Summary Chiles and Roloff use Expectancy Violation Theory to understand the relationship between expectations and responses to apologies. Chiles and Roloff clarify that EVT assumes that individuals form expectations for the normative and prescriptive rules guiding (communicative) interactions with others, and when those expectations are violated individuals become cognitively aroused. At that point, based on factors such as the situation, the context, and the relationship itself, individuals consciously or unconsciously attribute a valence, positive or negative, to the violation. EVT is one of the most widely used theoretical perspectives on expectations and communication behavior, and has been applied to a variety of novel contexts. However, no studies... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... K., Bennett, M., and Goffman, E. Once again, using EVT as their perspective, this article focuses on the degree to which people expect apologies to be accepted, the extent to which they are accepted/rejected and how offenders view expected and unexpected responses. Chiles and Roloff found that while accepting an apology is positively evaluated by apologizers, this relationship is moderated by their expectations of acceptance prior to the actual response to the apology. According to EVT, the stronger an expectation is, the more it matters whether an individual violates it or not. The more an apologizer believes an apology will be accepted, the more positively they will view adherence to this expectation. Consequently, violations or deviations from increasingly strong expectations will be viewed more negatively. Drawing on the framework of EVT, the researchers predict and confirm that acceptance of an apology would be positively related to the evaluation of said response, but this relationship would be moderated by the expectations the apologizer had for acceptance. Chiles and Roloff found that a limitation to their experiment is that communicative behavior is the driving behavior to the response of an apology, not expectations. However, expectations are still an important factor determinate whether or not a person will forgive someone who has hurt ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Essay on the Life of Frederick Douglass In Frederick Douglass #8217; Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, Mr. Douglass gives many examples of cruelty towards slaves as he shows many reasons that could have been used to abolish slavery. Throughout the well written narrative, Douglass uses examples from the severe whippings that took place constantly to a form of brainwashing by the slaveholders over the slaves describing the terrible conditions that the slaves were faced with in the south in the first half of the 1800 #8217;s. The purpose of this narrative was most likely to give others not affiliated with slaves an explicit view of what actually happened to the slaves physically, mentally, and emotionally to show the explicit importance of knowledge to the liberation... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A majority of southern slaveholders took part in sexual relations with their slaves because it was their property and they felt should be able to do whatever they wanted to do with it. This idea of the slaveholder was an evil example of the condition of slavery and how it was such a necessity that it be abolished. The total disrespect by slaveholders towards the slave families is overwhelmingly sinful. How could one person be so oblivious to the wickedness of their actions to their families of slaves by impregnating their women and separating them from each other? The shear absence of any respect for Africans or mankind in general, makes those certain slaveholders the worst humans on this earth. As a young child, Frederick Douglass was introduced to the acts of violence towards the slaves including the all too common whippings. He says, #8220;I have often been awakened at the down of day by the most heart rendering shrieks of an own aunt of mine, whom he used to tie up to a joist, and whip upon her naked back till she was literally covered with blood. #8221; One could only imagine the horrid pictures that slaves would have seen on a daily basis of other slaves nearly being beaten to death by their masters. For the black children growing up on the plantation, the master was seen to be a man of great power and not to be taken lightly. This was exactly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Final Legacy Of William The Conqueror, Leader Of The... He ended with a BANG! That is the final legacy of William the Conqueror, leader of the Norman invasion of Britain and victor at the iconic Battle of Hastings. When William died, he had developed a bacterial infection in his stomach, which went unnoticed by the mortician. William was a rather heavy man, and the coffin he was given was slightly small, so he was forced into the coffin even though he did not fit. As the infection spread, gas began to build up in his gut, and, in the middle of his funeral precession, the coffin burst, guts and stagnant blood flying all over the now shrieking crowd. But he is remembered for far more impactful and even bloodier events (10). Although the Norman Conquest of 1066 was a year of much bloodshed, that year was pivotal to the nation of Great Britain as it helped to establish the boarders and structure of the Kingdom of Great Britain, it contributed to the creation the English dialect, and brought new political, social, and religious reforms to the region, each of which stood to benefit the lands well being The year of 1066 C.E was a period of great reckoning, as the events of the year s famous Norman invasion would shape the British Isles forever. Before the invasion, Englandwas ruled by a scheming King known as Edward the Confessor, who used his childless marriage as a political tool. • 8. Use Of Juxtaposition In All Quiet On The Western Front Juxtaposition, a literary device in which two or more people, places, or ideas are placed side by side for the purpose of contrasting them, is frequently used in Erich Maria Remarque s war novel titled All Quiet on the Western Front to exaggerate the brutal nature of war. Remarque often offsets these grotesque descriptions with portrayals of nature and everyday beauty, and utilizes this juxtaposition of war and nature to portray the true horror of war. When Paul Baumer describes the significance of the latrines and how they provide a distraction for the men from the war, he paints a picture in the reader s mind of a beautiful carefree meadow filled with flowers and butterflies, but the reader can infer that danger still lurks at a distance... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This example of juxtaposition serves to show that even though there may be some calm moments in battle where everything feels as though it s normal, the soldiers can never truly leave the battle. As the days go by and the death toll rises, Paul Baumer and his comrades still find ways to laugh, such as the situation with Haie and his driving bands, and they still find the beauty in the midst of war, though this optimism will not last for long as the war become more intense with each passing day. One morning, Baumer notices two butterflies playing in front of their trench, and they eventually settle on the teeth of a skull , juxtaposing natural beauty with ghastly imagery (Remarque 127). Baumer also notices that the birds and larks who were nesting a year ago, their young have all grown up; the irony behind this is that even animals have been given a chance to grow old and start families but the soldiers, the young men, are cut down in their prime. Remarque also incorporates ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There was little standardization of individual tasks. In a small business, everyone on staff is expected to be involved in all day to day business activities. This creates a very informal relationship between workers and management. In addition to the small business aspect, EU Design is in a creative industry. These meetings would help to create a more cohesive environment between New York and Hong Kong. This would also give the Hong Kong office a chance to provide requested feedback to New York. As a supplement, an online open forum for questions from one office can be posted and answered by the other office when it opens. Incentive Systems Currently there is no formal incentive system. Many of the rewards are based on Berardi s perception of employee performance. If he does not have the opportunity to have direct communication with all employees, it is a possibility that he is not able to appropriately assess individual performances. The employees themselves felt that above standard performance was not always noted. This sometimes resulted in sub optimal achievements being recognized while the employee going the extra mile was getting passed over. What they really were was an act declaring the rights and liberties of the subject and settling the succession of the crown. Like the Magna Carta, the Bill of Rights is a basic and fundamental document of the constitution law in England. The reason for the bill of rights was to ensure and guarantee the safety of the human rights that the citizens were ought to have. The bill of rights reduced the power the monarch had on the civilians, and gave the civilians more power towards the monarchs. The English Bill of Rights came after the defeat of King James II and the crowning of William III and Mary as the new joint rulers of England. Some of these rights included the rights to bear arms, the rights to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Kingdom of Scotland also had a similar document written in 1689, United States of America also has a similar concept of the Bill of Rights. Its influence can also be seen in the United Nations Declaration of Human rights and the European Convention on Human rights. All of these countries had a similar problem, too much power belonging to one person without the system of checks and balances. • 15. Bernard Williams Psychological Continuity If on Tuesday, I suffer an accident and lose all of my memory, it is probable that my family and friends will still love and care for me, creating an impression that I am indeed the same person I once was. These conditions imply the theses of animalism and bodily continuity when it comes to personal identity. However, is this human habit enough to discard the idea that it is psychological continuity that sustains identity? Whilst many may argue that it would be against our intuition to say that I am no longer the same person, I do not believe that this is caused by our intuition, but instead a societal construct that s sole purpose is to make the trauma of the accident and loss easier to deal with. By using this premise and upholding the psychological... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bernard Williams, initially illustrates psychological continuity in his paper The Self and the Future with the example that if one was to undergo a brain transplant, your memories and other mental features, the resulting person would be convinced that he or she was you . Williams describes how persons A and B are changing bodies, then A chooses that the B body person should get the pleasant treatment and the A body person the unpleasant treatment . Through Williams phrasing this notion seems like the intuitive choice to pick, given that if we are switching bodies, then (if I am A), I assume that I am now inhabiting the B body person. Using this premise, it seems clear that I am only what stems from my memories, thus I am identified by my psychological continuity; on the surface, this seems difficult to contest. However, Williams, goes on to illustrate how in the premise of this argument there is an assumption. Williams defines the thought experiment again, but depersonalises person B, and instead claims that changes in his character are produced, and at the same time certain illusory memory beliefs are induced in him; this is essentially the same process as what happen in the first instance, however, Williams refrains from referring to what happens to the second person. Consequently, person A does not wish for the A body person to be tortured, even though given the conclusion form the first example this body now contains a different person. Given person A s emotive response, it would perhaps appear that, despite the lack of psychological continuity, the A body person may in fact still be person A; therefore, psychological continuity may not be an appropriate way to claim someone is the same person. Nevertheless, can we genuinely claim that this emotive response can create a genuine criticism for this psychological continuity, therefore ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. The Personal Effects Of Plastic Surgery The Personal Effects of Plastic Surgery Plastic surgery dates back to somewhere around 2000 B.C. and has only advanced since that time. Today people all over the world get these procedures done for many reasons. Some reasoning behind individuals getting plastic surgery is to fix a birth defect, deformability, or for cosmetic purposes. In today s society, getting plastic surgery for cosmetics purposes is very popular but with that comes many negative comments or thoughts towards that person getting these surgeries. Cosmetic surgery impact not just the person receiving it but everyone that sees those new features or changes. In the world we now live in I think body image is a big factor in many people s lives. A lot of people do not always feel comfortable in their own skin because of the different models and actresses or actors seen on television. I think when we see those different people on television or on the internet, we think that s how we should be able to look, this can make people have negative thoughts about their own body. In all reality, most of those people we see on television, magazines and social networks; almost all of those people have had some sort of plastic surgery to change their appearance. While these people change themselves they can send thousands of dollars on just one procedure. When someone has had over ten procedure done to themselves that dollar amount really starts to add up and that s just of the negative effects of getting plastic surgery. ... Sartre wrote essays about artists work which helped viewers translate philosophy into visual art and by doing this viewers are able to understand the reasons behind the artwork and along with the understanding comes a deeper appreciation for the art. If man is unexplainable it is because we make ourselves so if he is indefinable it is because at first he is nothing (Sartre) he must create who he will be.( www.theartstory.org) Sartre spoke these words to the artwork of the post war period. Jean Dubuffet and Wols art work is able to address the coexistence of mind and body on which humans need. Ponty believes that art does not have to be perfect and symmetrical its science does not have to be exact as long as it captures the eye of the observers than it has done its job correctly. Existentialismin art is for the artist to be completely free with every stroke of the hand. The art of the artist is dependent on the time and place in which the artist is born. Following the first and second World Wars, the decades of fighting and relentless political turmoil it comes as no surprise that a philosophy that invokes man, the individual s existence at its core had such an extensive following. This is why existentialist art flourishes after times of war because people want to express their feeling of freedom and the importance of the individual. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The English colonists arrived in Chesapeake Bay where the Powhatan Indians had been calling home for quite some time. There were over thirty Indian tribes totaling 14,000 Indians. This is where the first colony, Jamestown, was settled in 1607. I believe this created a lot of tension between the Indians and the new settlers considering the previous settling and attacks of the Spanish on the Indians. The Indians lived such a generous way of life welcoming the new English settlers by offering them food. However, the good intentions faded quickly after. The leader of the PowhatanIndians, Powhatan, was intending to entice the English through generosity and their selfless attitudes. Sure enough, this act of kindness was overlooked by the English colonists, and they immediately began searching for wealth such as tobacco. As we have spoken about in class, Jamestown was a colony that significantly valued material objects and wealth; whereas Plymouth colony did not focus their rule around that idea. The new colonists were so set on acquiring wealth that they failed to grow crops such as corn and beans. This led the English to depend more on the Indians for food since the Indians were very successful farmers and knew how to live off the land. Androgyny And The Third Gender Essay Androgyny and the third gender are present in many cultures and each combination of masculine and feminine qualities make it a unique phenomenon that is on an individual basis. Since ancient times to present day, the idea of the third gender has been discussed by many scholars, as well as what gender truly can be defined as. It is undeniable that androgyny has become more mainstream as of recent, especially with help from the fashion industry in the early 2000s when they began to employ androgynous models as well as designing androgynous clothing. Since this third genderis finally receiving more recognition, it is important to understand where the term comes from, and how it exists in many cultures. In this paper, I intend on exploring the history of androgyny, discuss figures that have analyzed typical gender roles, present the multitude of cultures that have a third gender, and finally examine the fashion industry s relationship with androgyny. The definition of androgyny is being partly male and partly female in appearance, and of indeterminate sex. The origin of the word comes from the Greek terms andros for man and gyne for woman. Individuals consider themselves androgynous usually either exhibit behavioral androgyny, where they adopt the roles or activities associate with the opposite gender or psychological androgyny, where they have ambiguity regarding gender or sexual identity. There are three distinct forms of this third identity. The first is biological sex, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This allows him to connect with his audience on a personal level. Meanwhile, Bush did not have to convince his audience that an event was going to take place. Instead, he was able to put blame on a specific group for the terrorist act, and provide information about their tactics and connections. This strategy works to inform the public about possible future dangers. The strategies that Cicero and Bush employ in their language diverge as well. Cicero tends to repeat words with negative connotations, so that it would be ingrained in people s minds, while Bush tends to use simpler language that everyone can understand. The Possible Causes of Cleft Lip and Palate Cleft lip and/or palate is a condition where the tissue of the lip did not completely close during embryotic formation that affects 1 in 700 people born. Though not immediately fatal, the disorder can cause complications with consuming and speech that could lead to more serious problems. The only way to fix the gap is to surgically go in and sew the two sides of the lip /palate together; this is a comparable easier and faster solution than other solutions out there for different disorders. Many people who get the surgery recover fine, have slight physical differences, and are able to succeed in society like anyone else (condition does not hinder mental state or ability drastically). This condition has many different phenotypes that fall in two categories, unilateral cleft and bilateral cleft (Dixon et al., 2011). In a unilateral cleft, only one side of the palate or lip is affected (asymmetrical) while in a bilateral cleft, both sides are affected usually in a symmetric pattern. Because of the large range of phenotypes, it is very difficult to trace back to certain genes and factors and figure out how these factors together influence the expression of the trait. Cleft lip and/or palate can be expressed by itself, called non syndromic, or with other conditions including Kabuki syndrome, called syndromic (Dixon et al., 2011). Depending on the type of disorder, this condition is caused by different chromosomes and mutations on these chromosomes. For example, if it is indeed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many have felt like just because they go through this that they will never be anything because they don t have the resources to accomplish anything in life, and other people around you who doubt you can make you believe even more that you will never amount to anything in life. Christopher Wallace aka The Notorious B.I.G. or Biggie small s song Juicy, released in 1994 from his Ready to Diealbum, selling over 607,000 copies is a great example of all of this. He tells this exact story through his song about how people used to doubt him and even goes on to tell about his life in the struggle and coming up from it. Biggie makes it known throughout his entire song that he isn t ashamed of how he grew up before the wealth. I think his main point was to let people know that he will never forget and that it s the lessons he learned during those times that undisguisable got him to where he is now. Throughout the entire song Biggie tells us little parts of his past like Remember when I used to eat sardines for dinner (verse 1, line 14). Dog Whistling has been used for years by politicians to achieve what they want while campaigning for public offices. Politicians have been maneuvering and scheming for years during elections for the peoples vote. They have always put on a show for the people just to receive their vote. They set their sights on an office of public position and they begin a long and hard working race to gain votes. Dog whistling is just a different way for them to use codes or demonstrate to certain people to what they are really trying to say. Politicians portray a good and upright demeanor. It s part of their job. The Pros And Cons Of Smoking In Public Places Smoking Should Be Banned In Public Places Most of the time non smokers happen to be at places where people are allowed to smoke publicly, one will agree that the habit is irritating. Many different states in the United States and the world as a whole have drafted laws to control the habit of public smoking (Dugan, 2013). Some countries or states have gone ahead to ban smoking in public entirely. The move to ban smoking in public is a prudent one, because it will help save countless lives. The reasons behind the prohibition on smoking in public are that the habit affects non smokers as well as put their lives in danger and this is equal to effects that smoking has on the active smoker. Smoking in public puts the lives of non smokers at risk. In simple terms, the second hand smoke that the active smoker exhales can cause health side effects to the non smoker. Research has shown that the second hand smoke contains more than seven thousand different chemicals that are toxic and among these chemicals, seventy are cancer causing chemicals (U.S. Department of Health Human Services n.p.). This I believe, is one of the biggest reasons why these books have been such a success, the author knows how to keep the story going at all times in order to maintain the readers attention. Another factor which I believe has led to the novels success is that while reading, the reader wishes that they could live in this fantasy world created by Rowling where life is anything but ordinary. The novels make the reader somewhat desire a life like the one led by the characters of the novels, like going to a school to learn wizarding, always having extraordinary things happen and just being at Hogwarts seems like an unequaled joy for some. Weakness Once governments saw the potential for victory for its political gain, the chaplaincy began to weaken and divide. For example, the War in England as written in pamphlets described the role of the chaplain during that time. Their job in this role was to sustain men who had to face their neighbors in a war over political and religious differences. [3] Some chaplains were used to control the spread of heterodox religious views, while others left the military in pursuit of doing what is right, and preaching the true message of God. This departure from the military added to the weakness of the chaplaincy. Another weakness, chaplains were wrongly accused or labeled as evil, when it fact, laymen were the culprits. It was laymen such as Henry Denne and Paul Hobson who gave the army a reputation for radical sectarianism; the further association of religious radicals with the chaplains was almost entirely independent of the chaplains themselves[4]. Opportunities Valuable lessons learned about chaplains during this given time period is that the need to administer God in truth to all people provided a means of opportunity for the chaplaincy. When shortages of chaplains occurred, governments selected priests with no military affiliation. And for chaplains who stayed behind in their parishes, governments imposed special instructions as well. For example, Benedict the Levite insisted that clerics celebrate masses, carry out ... Both diet plans also attempt to carry out their goals by restricting what dieters can and cannot eat in relation to what is recommended by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA). Through altering what nutritionists suggest for a healthy regime, low carbohydrate and low fat meal plans potentially put dieters at a higher risk for developing health problems and diseases. Low fat diets, on the other hand, claim that fatty foods are much easier to convert to body fat compared to carbohydrates. They also contend that complex carbohydrates are a better source of energy for the body, due to the fact that the body takes a longer amount of time to digest and thus process the carbohydrates. The first time I laid eyes upon the San Juan Mountains, I couldn t believe that I was only a few miles away from the cold desert that is Colorado.
