Red Coral Culture
Red coral was highly esteemed at the Qing imperial court and its use restricted for, and regulated
by, the emperor. The most prized type, Mediterranean red coral, corallium rubrum, reached China
via the coral network, traded along sea trade routes from Europe to China in the seventeenth and
eighteenth century. This essay focuses on the material qualities of red coral, exploring the uses of
red coral at the Qing court and beliefs surrounding this exotic and mysterious marine material in
Chinese culture, both as physical material and as a representational motif. Red coral has been
associated with auspiciousness and longevity from ancient times. It indicates nobility in Mahayana
Buddhism and is one of the Eight Precious Things , a group of

Institutionalized Dress Codes
The proposed topic of research asks the question, what types of behaviors and attitudes are related
to the dress codes implemented in institutionalized settings? Dress codes and uniform policies have
always been written with specific emphasis on what would be considered appropriate attire for
female subjects, which have often been opposed on the basis of gender inequality proposing
women are more policed than their counterparts. The general objective of these policies, either
stated or implied, is to maintain an environment free of distractions including but not limited to
political debate, cult activity, and sexual tension. In lieu of the mentioned precautionary measures,
there are still many incidences of sexual misconduct in these

Creativity And Imagination In The Neverending Story
Creativity and Imagination in The Neverending Story

FYS 110Z: Creating/Imagining/Real Life
Richard W. Swanson
September 22, 2017
On my honor, I pledge that I have upheld the Honor Code, and that the work I have done on this
assignment has been honest, and that the work of others in this class has, to the best of my
knowledge, been honest as well. The Neverending Story is filled with a world of imagination and
creativity and with imagination, our world can become a land of fantasy. In this paper, creativity
and imagination will be discussed and how they correlate with one another. The world is seen by
many as a giant floating rock in space; however, some see it as a land of opportunity and a place
where dreams can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Imagination is useless without creativity. Anyone can imagine themselves walking down a street;
however, it takes a creative person to imagine walking down a street of an alien planet inhabited by
living Cheetos. This scenario might be considered a little outlandish, yet it takes that extreme
creativity to stand apart from other. Albert Einstein once said, imagination is more important than
knowledge. For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand while imagination
embraces the entire world and all there ever will be to know and understand. Imagination and
creativity benefit from one another, and one can not achieve greatness without the other.
Imagination and creativity are essential qualities that help innovators have breakthroughs in
science, math, technology, and many other things. To be a creative individual, one must imagine
the impossible and improbable. For example, Michael Endie had to imagine the quicksand that
engulfs life if it has sorrow thoughts. The sand can be directly connected with depression and how,
once it has a person, it constantly drags them down. On the other hand, to be imaginative, an
individual must think outside the parameters of our modern world. For example, in The
Neverending Story Tinys had a pet snail for transport similar to a horse in our world. Michael

Christian Listen To Secular Music
Should A Christian Listen to Secular Music?
Thesis statement
Christian should listen to secular music because it also conveys positive message and its positive
sides outweighs its negative sides.
These days, secular music seems to have a greater influence on many people s lives than Christian
music. Secular music can be very entertaining. There are many secular songs that have catchy
melodies, thoughtful insights, and positive messages. However, my friend has just attended a
seminar that said secular music id from the devil. Yet, I have not found the evidence of this
anywhere in the Bible. In determining whether Christian should listen to secular music. I
personally believe that Christian should listen to secular music, because it also conveys positive
message and its positive sides outweighs its negative sides. Here we are going to discuss some
explanation about this topic. According to listen to the secular music, (Denora, 2012) Christian
reviews of the arts would do well to distinguish between content and composition. You can just
appreciate it, just enjoy it and thank the Lord for it. Thank the Lord for gracing the artists with the
ability and creativity to craft that song. Such music can make us to grieve in helpful ways. That ...

It might be hard to find the purpose of it and often times we ignore about this. Secular music, on
the other hand, was composed solely for its entertainment value, whether for dance or to express
love. Delahoyde says that Secular music in the Middle Ages included love songs, political satire,
dances, and dramatically works, but also moral subjects, even religious but just not for church use.
Non liturgical pieces such as love songs to the Virgin Mary would be considered secular. Most
secular music was syllabic and had a narrow range. Rhythms are largely unknown, and probably
slight improvisation, at least for decoration, was common (Delahoyde,

The Value Of Vengeance In Beowulf
Vengeance is an important value that causes misfortune in the story of Beowulf. It brings not only
Beowulf, but many others, fame and glory, plus, wealth as well. It is not a sustainable value for it
brings everyone in the story only destruction. The tribes that have been bonded together by this
value get destroyed but it. The value of courage is tied into the story since almost the entire story is
based on vengeance. When Beowulfis helping Hrothgar get his vengeance, he attacks Grendel,
saw that his strength was deserting him, his claws, Bound fast, Higlac s brave follower tearing
at his hands. (Beowulf, page 36). Beowulf fights Grendel with his hands because he promised
Hrothgar that he would help him obtain his vengeance. Beowulf gets his fame, wealth and glory
for his victory over Grendel which was achievable through Hrothgar s desire for vengeance
against the monster. After the battle with Grendel, Hrothgar spoke to Beowulf, Glory is now
yours, Forever and ever; your courage has earned it, And your strength. (Beowulf, page 42).
Hrothgar praises Beowulf for granting his desire of vengeance on Grendel and awards him. He
tells Beowulf that he has earned glory and wealth by helping him in destroying Grendel. Grendel
s mother is saddened and angered when she finds out her son is dead and proceeds to Herot: But a
monster still lived, and meant revenge. (Beowulf, page 56). Vengeance is the cause of destruction
and that is what Grendel s mother wants to do to the men of

At the end of each section, the impact on the methodology, specification and planning is discussed.
Additionally the time which was needed to lower the probability of the risk is going to be

Raps Extremely Powerful Influence Essay
Raps Extremely Powerful Influence
Rap music has been a part of this world since the 1960 s, and it has gone through hundreds of
different stages in its time. However, the number one thing that people think of when they hear rap
music is crime, violence, alcohol, drugs and other negative influences. Despite these common
beliefes on what rap music is about, it can be an extremely positive influence. Educating the youth
and community about the bad things happening around us and how they re affecting people. It
can also be used to give people ideas on how they can help better these negative happenings.
Generally rap music, whether you believe it is negative or positive, can be agreed that it is one
thing by all people, and that is, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rap music is easily accessible by the means of television, newspapers and other media these days,
and because of the high percentage of negative rap music, it shows how influenced people are by
this.
Another major issue with the influence in rap isn t the rap music itself, but the lyrics associated
with the music. For example, Time Warner should stop its sponsorship and promotion of lyrics
that celebrate rape, torture and murder....Our appeal is to a sense of corporate responsibility and
simple decency. This shows that, lyrics in these mass produced albums and records of rap music
are the main purpose for this bad influence on people who listen to rap music. This also shows
that, the themes commonly used in rap music are vulgar and unappealing but people could and
have been seen to be extremely influenced by them. In addition, Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole
(R, Kan.) condemned gangsta rap artists for producing music extolling the pleasures of raping,
torturing and mutilating women and songs about killing policemen and rejecting law. This shows
that, people are largely against rap culture and what it has become. This also shows that companies
nowadays are publishing and releasing this music to the public, even though they are fully aware of
the behavior it promotes. This is especially affective in influencing young teens who look up to

Ingenico And Verifone Case Study
What lies in the future for Ingenico and Verifone with the rise of regional POS manufacturers and
mobile wallets? The market for payment processing terminals manufacturing and payment
processing has been globally duopolistic until recently. This was dominated by the two companies
established in 1980 s, Verifone, based out of the US and Ingenico, based out of France.
Traditionally, the industry was marked by entry barriers in the form of high initial capital
requirement, a high research, development and innovation requirements and long gestation period
required to obtain certification in a country. These entry barriers helped Ingenico and Verifone to
dominate the global POS market. In addition, over the period these companies built a strong
collaboration with payment processing companies such as Visa and MasterCard for the
development of new technologies and eliminated potential competition through the acquisition of
firms developing innovative technology. Duopolistic... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Compare And Contrast Two Ten Gilded Bronze Statues Of...
In this paper I will be analyzing the two seven feet ten gilded bronze statues of Hercules (from
greek Herakles) created in the 2nd century BCE in dedication to demigod s many
accomplishments. While the two sculptures are extremely similar, they yield minor differences
that distinct them from one another. Hercules was regarded as the strongest greek hero there has
been, but despite his unparalleled strength he appeared and lived like a regular human. While
both statues remained in Rome, one statue was found at the Forum Boarium, the other was buried
under tiles at the Theatre of Pompey with the inscriptions FCS short for fulgor conditum
summanium, meaning it had been struck by lightning. Despite being a product of Roman Art,
the statues were based around Greek models from the 4th century BCE. After its creation it was
displayed at the Forum Boarium in Rome for most of its existence, remains of Roman life point
to the fact that it is was where the cattle market took place. In his right hand he yields a club, his
distinctive symbol alongside the Nemean Lion skin. It is also worth noting that the statue found at
the Forum he does not have a lion skin hanging from his forearm, whereas the one found at the
Theatre of Pompey does. The Nemean Lion skin was the fruit of his first labour composed of three
complicated tasks. First he had to shoot an arrow at the beast and determine the speed at which it
strikes the beast given the angle of elevation and the distance. Second, using a

Examples of Standards of Service (Hayes, HP225 Dining Room Management Syllabus, 2013):
1)Serve from the left
2)Clear from the right
3)All drinks are served from the right side with the right hand
4)All drinks are carried to and from the table on a tray
5)The use of seat numbers
6)The coffee cup is served from the right, on the right, with the handle at a 67.5 degree angle from
the 12 o clock position of the guest. (Yes, details within the standards can get this specific)

Comparing Apocalypse Now and Heart of Darkness Essay
Comparing Apocalypse Now and Heart of Darkness
In the opening scenes of the documentary film Hearts of Darkness A Filmmaker s Apocalypse,
Eleanor Coppola describes her husband Francis s film, Apocalypse Now, as being loosely based
on Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness. Indeed, loosely is the word; the period, setting, and
circumstances of the film are totally different from those of the novella. Yet, a close analysis of
character, plot, and theme in each respective work reveals that Conrad s classic story of savagery
and madness is present in its cinematic reworking.
The story of Heart of Darkness is narrated by its central character, the seasoned mariner Marlowe, a
recurring figure in Conrad s work. Apocalypse Now ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The idea of company man turned savage, of a brilliant and successful team player, being
groomed by the Company for greater things, suddenly gone native, is perfectly realized in both
novella and film. In the film, Kurtz is portrayed by Marlon Brando, the father of American
method actors, who lends weight (both physically and dramatically) to the figure of the
megalomaniacal Kurtz. Brando s massive girth is all the more ironic for those familiar with
Heart of Darkness who recall Conrad s description: I could see the cage of his ribs all astir, the
bones of his arms waving. It was as though an animated image of death carved out of old ivory
had been shaking its hand with menaces at a motionless crowd of men... (Conrad, p.135). One
could speculate that Coppola s Kurtz is a graphic analogy of the bloated American war machine
dominating and perverting the innocent montegnards of Cambodia; however, after viewing
Eleanor Coppola s documentary, one finds that the casting was more based on a combination of
Coppola s wanting to work with Brando (remember The Godfather ) and Brando s own weight
problem. (It should also be noted that the cult like following of Kurtz in Heart of Darkness is
brilliantly and subtly updated by Coppola in a foreshadowing scene in which missives to Willard
from headquarters are intercut with scenes of newspaper clippings about Charles Manson.)
Also present in Coppola s film is the loveable, addle headed harlequin/fool

Symbolism In Young Goodman Brown By Nathaniel Hawthorne
The American writer, Mark Twain, wrote that, Every man is a moon and has a [dark] side which
he turns toward nobody; you have to slip around behind if you want to see it. His words explain
that there are flaws and faults that every person hides from others. In order to see it one has to
look for it by first plunging themselves into their own darkness before seeing that of others. This is
seen in Young Goodman Brown, by Nathaniel Hawthornein which a man travels away from his
wife with a mysterious companion into a dark forest for one night. The main character discovers
that the whole town has gathered together; from heads from churches to people he is close to, he
finds them in the forest worshipping sin, and his idea of a pure town of God worshipers is destroyed,
shocking the main character, leaving him to live in misery and distrust for years. In Nathaniel
Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown, the author uses literary elements such as symbolism,
characterization, and theme to develop romanticism in his text.
At the start of the story, the author uses symbols to cultivate the idea of religion and how it
intertwines with sinful acts, ultimately leading to the misery and mistrust of Goodman Brown.
Beginning with the main character s wife, the author uses her to symbolize the faith of Goodman
Brown. The narrator explains that Goodman Brown is leaving his wife (named Faith) for one
night to journey into the dark forest (25). His wife embodies the idea of religion and his

A Farewell Of Arms By Ernest Hemingway
In his novel A Farewell to Arms Ernest Hemingway wrote, We re going to have a strange life.
(D). His life was not ordinary by any means; he became the voice of his generation with his
poignant works capturing the emotions of the American people after World War I. In his novel A
Farewell to Arms Ernest Hemingwayattempts to demonstrate through the characters of Frederic
Henry and Rinaldi the feelings of horror and disillusionment the people of the Modern era tried to
escape.
Ernest Miller Hemingway was born on July 21, 1899, in the suburbs of Chicago to a middle
class family. As the oldest of six children, Hemingway was very close with his mother even
though he often disagreed with her values (Shuman, R. Baird 897). Hemingway s passion for the
outdoors was instilled in him at a young age when his family would spend summers in the
woods of northern Michigan ( Hemingway, Ernest ). After graduating from Oak Park High
School in 1917, Hemingway decided to continue doing what he loved instead of going to
college; he began working for The Kansas City Star as a reporter where he began to develop his
unique writing style (Shuman, R. Baird 897). After the newspaper ran an article about the war,
Hemingway decided to enlist ( Hemingway, Ernest ). Hemingway was disappointed when he was
quickly rejected by the U.S. Army because of his poor eyesight; determined to help Hemingway
joined the Red Cross and was sent to the Italian Austrian front as an ambulance driver ( Ernest

There are two vastly differing works of literature that employ similar elements of satire, whether
the story is long or short, essay or novella. In these two works, the authors bring light to ongoing
social, political, and philosophical issues of their time and age. The two works I am referring to are
Jonathan Swifts satirical essay, A Modest Proposal, and Voltaire s novella, Candide, or Optimism.
In both A Modest Proposal and Candide, there is a portrayal of irony, cold logic and reasoning
rather than emotion, and misguided philosophy. Exploring the issues within these texts can
implement a better understanding of not only the literature itself, but also the historical context and
the issues of the time. By delving even deeper into... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This can also be seen when Pangloss churns out philosophical discourse rather than obtaining the

answered Pangloss. The city of Lima, in America, experienced the same convulsions last year; the

Lisbon. Nothing more probable, said Candide; but for the love of God a little oil and wine. How,

Candide fainted away, and Pangloss fetched him some water from a neighbouring fountain. On the
other hand, the speaker in A Modest Proposal has immaculate knowledge of his country s financial
situation, overpopulation, and famine. He demonstrates this knowledge through careful
calculations of how to handle the proposal that he is making. However, there is no use of emotion
or empathy in making these calculations computations; there is no thought of the moral
implications of this proposal and the fact that this can be considered mass genocide based on social

A Glimpse into Nineteenth Century Brazil Essay
Esau and Jacob by Joaquim Machado de Assis portrays the tumultuous relationship between twin
brothers, Pedro and Paulo, during the late nineteenth century; the twins symbolize the Brazilian
political struggles during the transition from a monarchy to a republic. The brothers are
emblematically born in 1870, at the end of the Paraguayan War, a time when the Brazilian political
elite split between conservatives and reformers (xiii). The brothers fight; their most contentious
arguments regard politics. Paulo is a republican and Pedrois a monarchist. The only commonalities
the twins have are their love for their mother, Natividade, and their courtship of Flora. As an

Esau and Jacob illustrates the mix of Brazilians uncertainty and indifference during the fall of the
monarchy, the flaws of their political system, and provides insights into 19th century society.
Uncertainty as the Monarchy Collapses
One of the cornerstones of Brazilian national mythology is the myth of conciliation. In 1822,
Pedro I proclaimed Fico ( I am staying ) to declare Brazilian independence from Portugal; Brazil
separated from Portugal and created a nation without a revolutionary war. In 1889, Marshal
Deodoro de Fonseca declared Brazil a republic without firing a shot. Brazil s bloodless history is
extraordinary, especially compared to the gory political upheavals in Spanish Latin America.
Mexico, for example, endured a ten year revolutionary war in which 10% of the population was
killed and another 10% emigrated before the Porfirian dictatorship was ousted and a semi
democratic state was formed. Despite the relative peacefulness of the Brazilian revolution, chapter
LXIII ( The New Sign ) finds CustГіdio, the teashop owner, agonizing about the name of his
teashop. The teashop s original name is Confietaria do ImpГ©rio, however the day after the
monarchy collapses, CustГіdio fears revolutionary mobs will ransack his shop because of the

Mental Health Advantages And Disadvantages
DSM is the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual it is used by mental health professionals to
provide a clear and concise diagnostic description for a variety of mental disorders. There are
five axes, and each is assigned to a different mental disorder. The five axes are: Axis I, Axis II,
Axis III, Axis IV, and Axis V. Each category of DSM IV provides mental health professionals
with a description that assists in the determining if someone is or is not suffering from a
disorder. With every diagnosis manual there is advantages and disadvantages. Some of the
disadvantages are over diagnosis, and confusing mental disorders with everyday problems. On the
other hand, diagnostic manuals can have its advantages some of them are reliable diagnosis and
create accurate and effective treatments for those that suffer from different mental disorders. The
Diagnostic and Statistical Manual has its weakness and benefits, but when used correctly it can
make mental health professional jobs easier and more accurate when it comes to treating or

Summary Of Ben Carson s Law On Firearms And Ammunition
The likelihood of Hitler being able to accomplish his goals would have been greatly diminished if
the people had been armed. Ben Carson
Ben Carson has not backed down from his idea that if the citizens of Germany were armed during
Nazi rule, Hitler s goal of complete genocide would have more difficult. Carson uses Nazi Germany
as an example of how tough gun restrictions would prevent the people of the United States to stand
against their government.
Prior to the Gesetz Гјber SchuГџwaffen und Munition (Law on Firearms and Ammunition) that was
enacted in 1928, Germany required citizens to surrender their firearms and ammunition or face five
years of imprisonment and a fine of 100,000 marks ($58,225). This was a in response to the number
of communist revolts that were happening around Germany.

Tamerlan Dzhokhar (Julia Malakie/Lowell Sun)
Both friends and authorities believe the darkest influence of all was his 26 year old brother,
Tamerlan, who is said to have been both a father figure for him and the driving force behind the
attack.
Unlike his quiet younger sibling, who became a US citizen on the eleventh anniversary of the 9/11
attack on the World Trade Center, Tamerlan was fiery and theatrical.
He was a flashy, eccentric fellow, said Eddie Bishop, a boxing trainer who moved in the same
amateur fighting circles as Tamerlan. Mr Bishop recalled an occasion in 2009 when he came into
the ring in cowboy hat, boots and leather trousers. I saw him as someone who had a lot of ability
but lacked the stillness and confidence of a fighter s heart, he said.
Over time, Tamerlan swapped his gaudy outfits for a growing religious fervor and once casual
references to his Muslim faith evolved into prayer mats in the gym and constant talk of Islam.
Katherine Russell (AP)
He married Katherine Russell, a 24 year old American convert to Islam, in June 2010 in a hastily
arranged ceremony at a Dorchester mosque, where a red and green Islamic flag hangs next to the
US Stars and Stripes.
It was a happy ceremony short and to the point, said Imam Taalib Mahdee on

The Ethics Around Disaster Management
1.Introduction
This paper will examine and discuss the ethics around disaster management, evidence based
practice, and public health care in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina that destroyed the wide part of
New Orleans in the United States of America.
2.Hurricane Katrina
Hurricane Katrina occurred on August 23, 2005, befalling in the course of seven days in Florida,
along the Gulf Coast in Mississippi, Louisiana, and Alabama initially killing between 1,300 and
2,000 people and displacing 650,000 residents, (Department of Homeland Security [DHS], 2006,
p. 1; Knabb, Rhome, Brown, 2006; U.S. Department of Commerce, 2006 as cited in Lowe
Rhodes, 2013, p. 398). The storm s damage reinforced the previously ignored warnings made
years prior for New Orleans and surrounding areas in need of protection from not only category 3
hurricanes, but category 4 hurricanes also, (American RadioWorks, 2002; O Hanlon, 2002).
Furthermore, the response to the disaster has been criticised such as the works of federal, state and
local levels of government particularly Congress, the Federal Emergency Management Agency
[FEMA], and the Bush administration, (Boaz, 2005; Edwards, 2015). Due to the rapid development
of communication and transportation technologies, a fast international response to disasters is
made possible and with this comes the opportunity to sort out ethical issues that could occur in
disaster relief (Gordijn Have, 2015, p. 1). When ethics is involved in a disaster

Elvis Presley Influence
Rock and roll music was really started by this one quote: I don t sound like nobody (Marsh).
This quote was said by Elvis when he first met Sun founder Sam Phillips, during a recording
session that Elvis was making for his mother s birthday. Phillips liked Elvis voice and singing
style so much that he thought Elvis was a black man! The public would also have this theory
about him until they actually saw him. Of course, when Elvis Presley walked into Sun Studios in
Memphis, Tennessee, even he could not predict that he was about to change the course of music
history forever. Elvis Presley is the true definition of a rock star. He has basically had music all
around him his entire life. From first hearing the depressing bluesfrom the Mississippi... Show more

Presley was also a terrific dancer, and broke the rules in traditional showmanship, which often
put him in the middle of controversy. Presley has already appeared six times on national
television, but it is his appearance on The Milton Berle Show on June 5, 1956, that triggers the
first controversy of his career. Presley sings his latest single, Hound Dog, with all the pelvis
shaking intensity his fans scream for (Marsh). Elvis chose to dance in this manner to express
himself, and did not see any issues surrounding it. He did what he felt like doing, and would
inspire artists such as James Brown and Jim Morrison of The Doors to have a breathtaking stage
presence. For this reason, several religious groups were outraged at Elvis chosen form of
expression, and started protesting the young singer. Television critics across the country slam the
performance for its appalling lack of musicality, for its vulgarity and animalism. The Catholic
Church takes up the criticism in its weekly organ in a piece headlined Beware Elvis Presley.
Concerns about juvenile delinquency and the changing moral values of the young find a new
target in the popular singer (Marsh). The churches were particularly angered at Presley s dancing,
and rallied against him, much to the chagrin of the teenage fans. In like manner, newspapers
would express public outcries of why Elvis music should be banned from their towns, leading to a
short decline in Elvis record sales. With these two characteristics of performing, Elvis would go on
to inspire countless musicians, all over the

Job Satisfaction Is Defined As The Positive Feeling Felt...
Job Satisfaction
Job Satisfaction is defined as the positive feeling felt by an individual about a job which results
from and evaluation of the job s characteristics (Robbins Judge, 2013). With an understanding of
job satisfaction we will look at and describe the issues of three individuals and their three different
jobs. Describing their job satisfactions, dislikes, and how all this relates to their performances on
the job.
The three different jobs that are presented for consideration of job satisfaction are an accountant
position where Maria works, a Quality Control Manager for an insurance company, and this is
where Darell works, and finally we have a Retail Store Manager for an outdoor company where
Mike works. All three of these jobs have characteristics that can contribute to increased levels of
job satisfaction. All three of these jobs offer plenty of hours of work. This can lead to job stability
and increase the affective commitment that a person might have toward a job (Milligan, 2014).
Maria s job as an accountant gives her job satisfaction because she has intellectual abilities that
allow her to do mental thinking and reasoning. It could also be presumed that the Quality Control
Manager and the Retail Store Manager have the same intellectual abilities. For the Quality Control
Manager position the opportunity to travel all over the United States could produce job satisfaction.
Finally the position of the retail manager that Mike possesses gives job satisfaction

I Stand Here Ironing
What do Betty from Pleasantville, June from Leave it to Beaver, and Donna Reed from The
Donna Reed Show all have in common? They all represent the image of the perfect housewife in
the 1950s. They represent women who gladly cooked, cleaned, dressed in pearls and wore high
heals while waiting for their all knowing husbands to come home. They represent women who can
only find fulfillment in male domination and nurturing maternal love. Tillie Olsen, as a single
motherwith four children (204), provides readers with another view of women. Through the
representation of the narrator in I Stand Here Ironing, Olsen contradicts the image of the 50s ideal
woman, a happy housewife and a perfect mother.

She was a single mother during Emily s initial years. Thus, instead of being able to spend time
and play with her 8 month old daughter, the narrator had to go out to look for a job as well as
Emily s missing father (199). She defied the image of a typical housewife. Instead of staying home
to cook, clean, and take care of her children, the narrator had to go out and get a job.
The narrator also made some clear mistakes in the raising of Emily. Due to circumstances that
were somewhat beyond her control, the narrator was not able to be particularly maternal with
Emily. The narrator had to leave Emily with Emily s father s family until she could raise enough
money. However this ended up taking a long time. The narrator states that when she finally came,
I hardly knew her, walking quick and nervous like her father, looking like her father, thin, and
dressed in a shoddy red that yellowed her skin and glared at the pockmarks. All the baby loveliness
gone (199). This statement shows that the narrator missed the crucial early years of her daughter s
life. She no longer felt that strong, ready connection that a mother feels with a child. She hardly
knew her daughter.
The narrator was not a very maternally loving mother to Emily. The old man living in the back
once said in his gentle way: `You should smile at Emily more when you look at her (200). Unlike
the mom s portrayed in the 1950 s, the narrator could not

Today I got to experience giving middle school and high school students flu shots at Lanier County

the sight of the needle. Before going to the school, I helped the nurse gather the equipment we were

gloves. We also brought colorful pencils and stickers for the students after receiving their flu shot.
The nurse also made sure to bring the emergency kit, which consisted of epinephrine, just in case

This health department does a good job with keeping patients up to date on their immunizations. A
patient came in wanting a flu shot, and was 69 years old. The nurse questioned the patient about if
she had ever received the pneumococcal immunization. The patient had never received the vaccine,
so we talked to the patient about its importance, and she ended up getting immunized. We had
another young couple come in for flu shots, so I got a lot of practice with giving intramuscular

health of the community. They are efficient when a patient comes in to do a thorough assessment,
not just physical, but asking about the patients home life and family. The number of people that
have come to the health department to receive an influenza shot has represented a large portion of
Lanier County residents. This can potentially reduce the spread of influenza through out the
community. Because there were so few students at the schools to receive the shot, the nurses
discussed going back to the schools to try to get more students immunized in hopes of further
reducing the frequency of influenza within the school system and the

Panda Bear Or Giant Panda
Pandas
The panda bear or giant panda is located in the south central area of China. It is recognized for
its appearance. It belongs to the Carnivore group even though it eats 99% bamboo. Pandas found
in the wild will eat other grasses, wild tubers, or meat in the form of birds, rodents, or carrion.
Pandas in captivity receive honey, eggs, fish, yams, shrub leaves, oranges, bananas, or other
specially prepared foods. Pandas live in mountain ranges because deforestation has driven them
from lowland areas. The panda is an endangered species. According to a 2007 report, there are
239 pandas living in captivity in China, 27 pandas living outside the country, and 1,590 pandas
living in the wild. The panda bear is a great symbol in China. This animal is noticed because it is
on the endangered species list.
The red panda, though it shares the name of panda, is not a bear. It is more closely related to a
raccoon or skunk and is an endangered species. This panda is called the red panda, lesser panda, or
red cat bear. This animal is not closely related to the giant panda or panda bear. This is an animal
that is adorable and cuddly looking but it also is so much larger than it appears.
Cultural Symbolism:
The panda bear is not only a fluffy creature it is also symbolic to China. The panda can symbolize
friendship and peace. The colors on the panda help resemble the Yin Yang by showing how the
two colors can mix and with the pandas nature it backs this up. The panda is really peaceful

Comparison Between Modern Day Music And Langston Hughes...
Comparison of modern day music to Langston Hughes and Paul Laurence Dunbar Poetry has
changed over the course of many years and numerous events in history.Music, as well, changed
the sound and lyrical meanings due to many events in history. Whether music is poetry or not
can be argued, but I believe music is an art represented through sound and lyrics. Music is a form
of poetry with a little tune to it. Music has a message to it just as poetry would. Modern day
music can reflect on many things, just as poetry sometimes refers to events going on in the
world. Many years ago a very controversial topic was the discussion of slavery, and later the
inequality of colored men to whites. Popular American poets, Paul Laurence Dunbar and
Langston Hughes, are two of the very few who would talk about these controversies. Their
poetry consisted of slavery, racial relations and inequality, opportunity, and hope. Their poetry
captures the despair and faith in the colored people through all their oppression. Modern day
music genre and style of hip hop or rap is a style created by African Americans. Present day rap
artists, J Cole and Kendrick Lamar, are two rap artists who have revolutionized music and have
become idolized by many African Americans. The two are known for discussing the reality of
what it is like being a black man in today s society. The poems of Hughes and Dunbar are very
comparable to the songs of Cole and Lamar that discuss oppression, inequality, and hope within

The Invisibility Of Today s Society

Invisibility in Today s Society Every day in our government there are a multitude of decisions made
by our elected officials. It may appear that our country s administration fairly represents the
community, but many of the lower income citizens find themselves invisible. They find do not get
to voice their opinions and they receive unequal treatment. In the current generation, it is a sad fact
that money controls not only people but even the government. This leads to the lower class to get

everyone s lives and many of the decisions can be viewed as questionable. From local to state, and

No representation and even virtual representation will not work in this country. In society, the
only way to have opinions heard is collectively. I urge citizens to demand that their government
listen to the people. The only difference between the rich and the poor is pieces of paper.
Intellect crosses class lines, and the government needs to know that. Belonging to a bourgeois
family myself, I have dealt with the struggle of voicing my opinions and have actively tried to
make change. If our homeland continues down this path of misrepresentation, there may perhaps
be great deal of consequences our country will have to face. Our nation was built on a set of
standards only to be tarnished by the corrupt ways of our administration. These ways in which the
rich are favored due to the simple fact that they have money in their possession. The poor have
ideas, thoughts, and feelings, too. The middle class has much of the same. It is basic human rights
to be listened to and appreciated. A prodigious deal of grief must be felt for the public who just
stand idle knowing that they can, in mass numbers, have their invisibility removed. Seeing the
number of struggles through our society, we need to reflect on errors made throughout history to
insure that we do not repeat those mistakes. In 2016, our nation will elect a new leader, and it is

Euro Disney Case Essay
Case Analysis # 1 EuroDisney Disney Land Paris 1. What factors lead to EuroDisney s poor
performance during its first year of operation? EuroDisney had a disastrous first year in Paris,
France. There were many reasons that contributed to the horrible start. I am going to discuss six
reasons why I think EuroDisney had such a hard time adjusting in Europe. 1.It was cheaper for
European families to travel to Disney World in Orlando, FL. Not only was the trip to Orlando
going to be cheaper, but it was almost guaranteed that the weather was going to be spectacular.
People go on vacation to have a good time, but more importantly to enjoy the weather. People in

The cost of a vacation to EuroDisney Paris compared to Disney World in Orlando Florida was
astonishing. I see this factor being foreseeable for this reason. Before a company goes abroad
they must complete an extensive research project on the history, culture, and economics of the
specific region in which they are going to operate. The people in charge of the economics of
Europe obviously did not calculate the amount of money a family was going to need in order to
visit EuroDisney. It is mind boggling that this mistake was not intercepted before the launch.
This factor was also controllable for EuroDisney and the explanation following will explain how.
This crucial mistake may have cost them millions of dollars in revenue and millions of visitors
from all over the world. Instead of attracting people to the new start up attraction, the people
opted to travel to the United States and visit Disney World for a fraction of the price. They should
have priced EuroDisney similar to Disney World in Florida, and the problem may have been
alleviated somewhat. The prices should have been thought out more carefully and compared to
other amusement parks in Europe. If that was done from the beginning, then EuroDisney may have
been a success in its first year. The problem that arose in which the French culture did not like
American fairy tale characters was foreseeable and controllable. The

Short term objectives that are associated with a reward system can be power motivators.
The first short term objective for NAIT in the implementation plan is the development and launch
of a new industry relevant teaching program. The program must target a new technology that the
competing polytechnics are not developing or already teaching, there must be an established
demand for program graduates, and the program must be interesting and appealing to the target

Motivation In The Book Anthem
Anthem In the book Anthem by Ayn Rand the main character, Equality, is assigned the job as a
street sweeper by the Council of Voacations. The reason that he is placed as a street sweeper is a

advanced among other students and learns very quickly, but it is wrong in society s eyse to be
smarter than anyone else. You are supposed to have the knowledge of your brothers. This is a
great sin, to be born with a head which is too quick (Rand 21). In order to prevent him from
learning and advancing further the Council of Vocations assigns him to the House of Street

He is unlike anyone else, being six feet tall, smart and prideful. He is assigned street sweeper to

Vocations wants to prevent Equality from reaching his full potential, making this a sinister
motivation. Equality is supposed to be like the other men, and when the council places him as a

still has pride and is happy to be assigned this job. So we were happy and proud of ourselves and of
our victory over ourselves (Rand

Imagination and creativity are essential qualities that help innovators have breakthroughs in science, math, technology, and many other things. To be a creative individual, one must imagine the impossible and improbable. For example, Michael Endie had to imagine the quicksand that engulfs life if it has sorrow thoughts. The sand can be directly connected with depression and how, once it has a person, it constantly drags them down. On the other hand, to be imaginative, an individual must think outside the parameters of our modern world. For example, in The Neverending Story Tinys had a pet snail for transport similar to a horse in our world. Michael Endie had ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Christian Listen To Secular Music Should A Christian Listen to Secular Music? Thesis statement Christian should listen to secular music because it also conveys positive message and its positive sides outweighs its negative sides. These days, secular music seems to have a greater influence on many people s lives than Christian music. Secular music can be very entertaining. There are many secular songs that have catchy melodies, thoughtful insights, and positive messages. However, my friend has just attended a seminar that said secular music id from the devil. Yet, I have not found the evidence of this anywhere in the Bible. In determining whether Christian should listen to secular music. I personally believe that Christian should listen to secular music, because it also conveys positive message and its positive sides outweighs its negative sides. Here we are going to discuss some explanation about this topic. According to listen to the secular music, (Denora, 2012) Christian reviews of the arts would do well to distinguish between content and composition. In this paper I will be analyzing the two seven feet ten gilded bronze statues of Hercules (from greek Herakles) created in the 2nd century BCE in dedication to demigod s many accomplishments. While the two sculptures are extremely similar, they yield minor differences that distinct them from one another. Hercules was regarded as the strongest greek hero there has been, but despite his unparalleled strength he appeared and lived like a regular human. While both statues remained in Rome, one statue was found at the Forum Boarium, the other was buried under tiles at the Theatre of Pompey with the inscriptions FCS short for fulgor conditum summanium, meaning it had been struck by lightning. Comparing Apocalypse Now and Heart of Darkness Essay Comparing Apocalypse Now and Heart of Darkness In the opening scenes of the documentary film Hearts of Darkness A Filmmaker s Apocalypse, Eleanor Coppola describes her husband Francis s film, Apocalypse Now, as being loosely based on Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness. Indeed, loosely is the word; the period, setting, and circumstances of the film are totally different from those of the novella. Yet, a close analysis of character, plot, and theme in each respective work reveals that Conrad s classic story of savagery and madness is present in its cinematic reworking. The idea of company man turned savage, of a brilliant and successful team player, being groomed by the Company for greater things, suddenly gone native, is perfectly realized in both novella and film. In the film, Kurtz is portrayed by Marlon Brando, the father of American method actors, who lends weight (both physically and dramatically) to the figure of the megalomaniacal Kurtz. Brando s massive girth is all the more ironic for those familiar with Heart of Darkness who recall Conrad s description: I could see the cage of his ribs all astir, the bones of his arms waving. It was as though an animated image of death carved out of old ivory had been shaking its hand with menaces at a motionless crowd of men... (Conrad, p.135). One could speculate that Coppola s Kurtz is a graphic analogy of the bloated American war machine dominating and perverting the innocent montegnards of Cambodia; however, after viewing Eleanor Coppola s documentary, one finds that the casting was more based on a combination of Coppola s wanting to work with Brando (remember The Godfather ) and Brando s own weight problem. (It should also be noted that the cult like following of Kurtz in Heart of Darkness is brilliantly and subtly updated by Coppola in a foreshadowing scene in which missives to Willard from headquarters are intercut with scenes of newspaper clippings about Charles Manson.) • 16. Symbolism In Young Goodman Brown By Nathaniel Hawthorne The American writer, Mark Twain, wrote that, Every man is a moon and has a [dark] side which he turns toward nobody; you have to slip around behind if you want to see it. His words explain that there are flaws and faults that every person hides from others. In order to see it one has to look for it by first plunging themselves into their own darkness before seeing that of others. This is seen in Young Goodman Brown, by Nathaniel Hawthornein which a man travels away from his wife with a mysterious companion into a dark forest for one night. The main character discovers that the whole town has gathered together; from heads from churches to people he is close to, he finds them in the forest worshipping sin, and his idea of a pure town of God worshipers is destroyed, shocking the main character, leaving him to live in misery and distrust for years. In Nathaniel Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown, the author uses literary elements such as symbolism, characterization, and theme to develop romanticism in his text. At the start of the story, the author uses symbols to cultivate the idea of religion and how it intertwines with sinful acts, ultimately leading to the misery and mistrust of Goodman Brown. Beginning with the main character s wife, the author uses her to symbolize the faith of Goodman Brown. The narrator explains that Goodman Brown is leaving his wife (named Faith) for one night to journey into the dark forest (25). His wife embodies the idea of religion and his ... Job Satisfaction Job Satisfaction is defined as the positive feeling felt by an individual about a job which results from and evaluation of the job s characteristics (Robbins Judge, 2013). With an understanding of job satisfaction we will look at and describe the issues of three individuals and their three different jobs. Describing their job satisfactions, dislikes, and how all this relates to their performances on the job. The three different jobs that are presented for consideration of job satisfaction are an accountant position where Maria works, a Quality Control Manager for an insurance company, and this is where Darell works, and finally we have a Retail Store Manager for an outdoor company where Mike works. All three of these jobs have characteristics that can contribute to increased levels of job satisfaction. All three of these jobs offer plenty of hours of work. This can lead to job stability and increase the affective commitment that a person might have toward a job (Milligan, 2014). Maria s job as an accountant gives her job satisfaction because she has intellectual abilities that allow her to do mental thinking and reasoning. It could also be presumed that the Quality Control Manager and the Retail Store Manager have the same intellectual abilities. They all represent the image of the perfect housewife in the 1950s. They represent women who gladly cooked, cleaned, dressed in pearls and wore high heals while waiting for their all knowing husbands to come home. They represent women who can only find fulfillment in male domination and nurturing maternal love. Tillie Olsen, as a single motherwith four children (204), provides readers with another view of women. Thus, instead of being able to spend time and play with her 8 month old daughter, the narrator had to go out to look for a job as well as Emily s missing father (199). She defied the image of a typical housewife. Instead of staying home to cook, clean, and take care of her children, the narrator had to go out and get a job. The narrator also made some clear mistakes in the raising of Emily. Due to circumstances that were somewhat beyond her control, the narrator was not able to be particularly maternal with Emily. The narrator had to leave Emily with Emily s father s family until she could raise enough money. However this ended up taking a long time. The narrator states that when she finally came, I hardly knew her, walking quick and nervous like her father, looking like her father, thin, and dressed in a shoddy red that yellowed her skin and glared at the pockmarks. All the baby loveliness gone (199). This statement shows that the narrator missed the crucial early years of her daughter s life. She no longer felt that strong, ready connection that a mother feels with a child. She hardly knew her daughter. The narrator was not a very maternally loving mother to Emily. Comparison of modern day music to Langston Hughes and Paul Laurence Dunbar Poetry has changed over the course of many years and numerous events in history.Music, as well, changed the sound and lyrical meanings due to many events in history. Whether music is poetry or not can be argued, but I believe music is an art represented through sound and lyrics. Music is a form of poetry with a little tune to it. Music has a message to it just as poetry would. Modern day music can reflect on many things, just as poetry sometimes refers to events going on in the world. Many years ago a very controversial topic was the discussion of slavery, and later the inequality of colored men to whites. Popular American poets, Paul Laurence Dunbar and Langston Hughes, are two of the very few who would talk about these controversies. Their poetry consisted of slavery, racial relations and inequality, opportunity, and hope. Their poetry captures the despair and faith in the colored people through all their oppression. Modern day music genre and style of hip hop or rap is a style created by African Americans. Present day rap artists, J Cole and Kendrick Lamar, are two rap artists who have revolutionized music and have become idolized by many African Americans. I urge citizens to demand that their government listen to the people. The only difference between the rich and the poor is pieces of paper. Intellect crosses class lines, and the government needs to know that. Belonging to a bourgeois family myself, I have dealt with the struggle of voicing my opinions and have actively tried to make change. If our homeland continues down this path of misrepresentation, there may perhaps be great deal of consequences our country will have to face. Our nation was built on a set of standards only to be tarnished by the corrupt ways of our administration. These ways in which the rich are favored due to the simple fact that they have money in their possession. The poor have ideas, thoughts, and feelings, too. The middle class has much of the same. It is basic human rights to be listened to and appreciated. EuroDisney had a disastrous first year in Paris, France. There were many reasons that contributed to the horrible start. I am going to discuss six reasons why I think EuroDisney had such a hard time adjusting in Europe. 1.It was cheaper for European families to travel to Disney World in Orlando, FL. Before a company goes abroad they must complete an extensive research project on the history, culture, and economics of the specific region in which they are going to operate. The people in charge of the economics of Europe obviously did not calculate the amount of money a family was going to need in order to visit EuroDisney. It is mind boggling that this mistake was not intercepted before the launch. This factor was also controllable for EuroDisney and the explanation following will explain how. This crucial mistake may have cost them millions of dollars in revenue and millions of visitors from all over the world. Instead of attracting people to the new start up attraction, the people opted to travel to the United States and visit Disney World for a fraction of the price. They should have priced EuroDisney similar to Disney World in Florida, and the problem may have been alleviated somewhat. The prices should have been thought out more carefully and compared to other amusement parks in Europe. If that was done from the beginning, then EuroDisney may have been a success in its first year.
