Eating Disorder And Disordered Eating
Another issue that seems to be prevalent is the distinction between an eating disorder and
disordered eating. These two are frequently misunderstood and used out of context. Disordered
eating is almost the same thing as an eating disorder with a few differences. Someone who suffers
from disordered eating is someone who does the same things as someone who suffers from an
actual diagnosed eating disorder but with less frequently. An example of this would be purging
after eating an excessive amount of food. Those who suffer from disordered eating often times have
a history of depression or anxiety. In addition to mental health consequences, ED have physical
health consequences. The National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) lists some health
consequences associated with AN and BN. For AN, health consequences include reduction of bone
density (osteoporosis), severe dehydration, which can result in kidney failure, fainting, fatigue,
anemia, a lower immune system function, slowed heart rate, even poor circulation of the blood,
and overall weakness (NEDA). Some of the physical effects for BN are inflammation and possible
rupture of the esophagus from frequent vomiting, chronic irregular bowel movements and
constipation as a result of laxative abuse, and peptic ulcers and pancreatitis. (NEDA). Premature
birth, muscle fatigue, tooth decay, and mental health issues can all arise from a BN as well.
Multiple studies and reviews have been conducted to investigate the

The Benefits Of Robots
The science of technology started in the 19th century and by the 20th century the advancement of
technology has introduced robots. These robots have flexible intents that benefit society by
performing tasks that are harmful to humans. The radical approach of technology to include
machines that are capable of doing what human beings cannot do is astute. Within the last few
years, robots have been used to perform surgeries, combat in the military and help children with
disabilities inside the education system. Controversies have been said about living in a society
where technology controls humans but many of these technological advances are now beneficial
and are been used everyday. Popular: Christopher Wanjek, a health and science journalist, explores
the topic on surgeries using robots in the article Robot Performs First Ever Surgery inside Human
Eye (Robot Performs First Ever Surgery inside Human Eye). This was the first surgery performed in
2017. The surgery consisted of the robot removing fine growth on the retina. Surgeons, who are
trained to complete these surgeries, tend to have trouble performing the surgeries without making
any mistakes. Cutting too deeply can cause a hemorrhages and scares that can lead to visual
impairment. Little things like the pulse of the doctor can cause negative effects on patients and
rather than helping them out, it could actually harm them. After performing the surgery, the patients
who went through the surgery performed by

Controversy In Shirley Jackson s The Lottery
Shirley Jackson s story The Lottery stirred up a lot of controversy when it was first published in
The New Yorker in 1948. Considering that it is a short story, and only took a few hours to write
no one suspected the impact it would have on everyone. It was widely disliked, and most people
were highly confused by it. Many people unsubscribed to the magazine, and Jackson received a lot
of hate mail because of it.
The fictional story tells of the events that take place in a town once a year. A lottery is held, and
one person is chosen to be stoned to death. Jackson s message seems to be about how easy it is to
conform to something, even senseless violence, just because it is considered a tradition. Now it is

None of the villagers, even her own family, show any sadness about what they are about to do.
All of the villagers act very apathetic about the situation. They act as if this is just another chore
that needs to be done. This shows how much everyone has conformed to this tradition. Their lack
of emotion confirms how easily it is to go along with something just because that s what you re

Shirley Jackson s The Lottery tells of an event that is held once a year. Where a drawing is held

The New Brunswick Islamic Center
Since the dawn of time, religion has been the staple of humanity. It has been our explanation for
the unexplainable, as well a way for us to form a community with those around us. Due to the
natural diversity of humans, a varied set of separate religions has formed throughout the world.
Religions continue to adapt and inspire each other, however, they all have their differences, as
well as internal differences through the observations of each believer. The exterior of the New
Brunswick Islamic Center is incredibly misleading. The outside appears similar to a factory, yet,
it s the inside that suggests something holier. The inner appearance of the religious center is not
very extravagant either, yet, it has a respectful atmosphere to it. Everyone acknowledges each
other with a warm greeting, and everyone acts friendly. The building itself only was composed
of a lobby and a musallahВё or ritual hall. The women sat separated from the men, and everyone
was required to remove their shoes. The age distribution was very spread out. Many young
children accompanied their parents to prayer, while many older worshippers came alone. In fact,
the lowest subset age wise were college and high school aged students. The dress of the
worshippers was perhaps the most varied. Some were in traditional garb, some were in basketball
shorts and snapbacks, and some even fused traditional robes with baseball caps. The service
attended was Dhruhr, the midday prayer. The service begins with a sermon by

George Wells Dystopian
Science Fiction Wells Done Herbert George Wells was a paradox of a man. Despite having a
fascination with utopias, advocated free love, and had an optimistic vision for humanity, Wells
created the modern dystopian template, married twice, and wrote works with dark themes, such as
The Island of Dr. Moreau. These contradictions may have been rooted in his childhood. Herbert
George Wells was born in the town of Bromley, located in Kent, England, to a set of lower middle
class parents. Despite his parents lack of education, Wells attempted to educate himself . . . by
reading in the libraries of his mother s employers. . . according to Novels to Students ( The Island

Moreau in a conversation between Prendick and Montgomery, the man who saved Prendick s
life, in chapter two where the two men talk about biology. Evolution and vivisections, on the
other hand, play a major role in the plot of the tale. Moreau uses vivisection to turn animals into
human esque beings. On page 45 of The Island of Dr. Moreau, Prendick claims to hear a scream
that sounded as if It was if all the pain in the world had found a voice . This was Wells playing on
the fear of vivisection. In reality, it was as safe as any other surgery during his time. As the tale
continues, Moreau admits that his forced evolution backfires after a period of time and his
Beast Folk become their former feral selves. In chapter sixteen, Prendick notes: As I [looked in
that direction] the Hyena Swine saw [the Leopard Man] and flung itself upon it with and eager
cry, thrusting thirsty teeth into its neck . Even before the other Beast Folk begin to regress, the
Hyena Swine appears to be more feral than the rest, suggesting that either Moreau purposely made
him that way or his regression from his previously evolved state occurs faster than the rest. This
maybe due to the fact the Hyena Swine seems to have more adrenaline highs than the others, since
Moreau seems to have him help with the tracking of Beast Folk who disobeyed Moreau s laws.

The Most Popular Teams Hail From The Northwest
The Sounders played the timbers for the first time on may 2nd, 1975, a 1 0 victory for the
sounders that would start the most heated and bitter rivalry in all of American soccer. The Seattle
sounders, the larger team from the larger city averages an average 43,000 in attendance for the
home games, a continent high and a respectable amount even in europe s most prestigious
leagues. Compared to portlands smaller 20,000 average in a smaller venues and a more modest
market. The fact that two of the MLS s most popular teams hail from the northwest is no surprise
as soccer is more popular here than anywhere else in the US. Aside from popularity the Timbers

But this strays from why they dislike each other, it about who is better, more about who is the best
in the northwest. The Seattle sounders have huge infrastructure for the expression of their fans,
from huge tifo s created by ECS to mock the timbers, to the march to the match closing down
some downtown seattle streets just to show that the fans are willing and able to. When your team
can average more fans than Chelsea, the premier league s reigning champion, you have something
to be proud of. The Timbers would argue so what, you have more people, but the atmosphere in
our city is something you could never match. At any home timbers game you can hear the constant
chanting and the green smoke and streamers exploding from the timbers army section. They
would say that no fans are as dedicated as theirs. One way the two fanbases each compete off the
pitch is in Tifo s, these are huge hand painted images on canvas by the supporters for each game.
They will mostly contain some form of taunting to the other team, Seattle and Portland are two of
the only teams in the MLS who create these because of the fan man hours and effort they take to
create. The seattle Sounders main fan group is the ECS, the emerald city supporters, based in bars
around seattle and has membership in the high hundreds, taking up most of the south lower stand

Homosexuality In Ancient Japan
Homosexuality in Japan was and still is a controversial topic to many. While currently in the
United States we are getting better with this subject, things are still quite backwards in Japan.
However, just like ancient Rome and Greece, Homosexuality was an honored tradition that was
practiced in ancient Japan as well, specifically during the Tokugawa era. This paper is going to
focus not only on homosexualityin Japan and its traditions, but also with the Samurai during the
Tokugawa era. Similar to ancient Rome and Greece, Japan believed that teachings were best when
transferred between man and youth, specifically in a sexual manner. The Japanese as well as the
Greeks equated the love between a man and a beardless youth with all... Show more content on

Kabuki were traveling male performers, which were also commonly known for being
prostitutes. There are more than one woodblock prints showing kabuki actors sleeping with
male partners. As horrible as it is, an interesting point Leupp makes in his book is that most
theaters had to provide sexual access, not just theatrical art. They had to rely on the sexual
attractiveness and complaisance of their actors more than on their not highly developed skill as
actors to attract clients. He then goes on to say they also relied on the erotic attractions of their
handsome young men to draw customers, prostituting these young men, as other kinds of street
performers and traveling troupes also did (173). Another interesting fact stated is that kabuki
theaters were possibly an outcome due to one of the shogun s preference being for male
performers. In my opinion, it s super fascinating that a lot of popular traditions could have been
created because of homosexuality in ancient times. Why I say this is because in our society
anything gay is (or at least was) covered up mostly because of religion. This is similar to women
inventors being covered up and having their ideas stolen by men, I m glad we re finally able to
reveal the truths and all of the scorned people will have to deal with it. With all of that being said
however, it s still completely disgusting how these kabuki and young men were prostituted and had
their bodies sold. I do not agree with this one

Essay on Human Relationships in Nella Larsen s Passing
Human Relationships in Nella Larsen s Passing
Works Cited Not Included
The Harlem Renaissance was a turning point for many African Americans. A vast amount of
literature was created specifically for this group during this era. For the first time, African
Americans were being told that it was okay to be proud of who they were. This new
consciousness and self awareness was prominent in many works of literature, but several writers
began exploring the darker side of this movement with literature that concentrated on the negative
aspects of race relations in America. Nella Larsen s novel Passing concentrates on this theme with
the story of Clare, a tragic mulatto who passes as a white person. Not only is Passing representative

Just because Clare feels no permanent allegiance to either the black or white worlds or any of the
classic anguish of the tragic mulatto does not mean that she is not a tragic mulatto (Washington
48). In her own way, Clare Kendry belongs with that group of tragic mulattos?emerging as an
individual, not as a stereotype (Davis 98). Her desire to return to her own race on her own terms
illustrates her individuality in the face of a stereotypical tragic mulatto. Clare may not be the
typical tragic mulatto, but her actions prove that she belongs in this group of literary figures.
Clare Kendry passes in order to secure a more stable life. Her desire to do this begins when she is
young, after her African American father dies and she is left with her white aunts. While there,
Clare begins to want more than what she has as an African American. She used to go over to the
south side, and used to almost hate all [African Americans]. [They] had all the things she wanted
and never had had. It made [her] all the more determined to get them (Larsen 159). In order to get
what she wants Clare marries a white man, John Bellew, under the pretense that she is white. Clare
is then required to deny everything about her past her girlhood, her family, her language, places
with memories, folk customs, folk rhymes, and the entire long line of people that have

Women In Ancient Greece
In ancient Greek society women were valued in one form or another, although this varied from
one region to another. Throughout time women in Greece held many different roles. They were
wives, prizes to be won, mothers, daughters, etc. Since there is little historical documentation
from this time period we must analyze authors such as Hesiod, Homer, Plutarch, and Sappho as
primary sources. During the pre archaic age women were a means to gain power, and beget
children, although in some situations their advice was taken especially in the case of priestesses
and oracles. Many examples of this can be found in Plutarch s life of Theseus. For example
Plutarch tells us of Pelops the most prominent king in Peloponnese. He goes on to say He married...

Hesiod s Works and Days states And he called this woman Pandora, because all they who dwelt
on Olympus gave each a gift, a plague to men who eat bread. Zeus in cooperation with the other
gods created Pandora to punish man after Prometheus gave them fire. Pandora playing the role
the gods created her for Pandora opens a jar full of all manners evil unleashing them upon the
world, leaving only hope in the jar. In this way woman is construed as the bringer of all evil. This
is driven more to the point when Hesiod says Do not let a flaunting woman coax and cozen and
deceive you: she is after your barn. The man who trusts womankind trust deceivers. He is basically
stating that women are only after your fortune and should not be trusted because they are

The Importance Of Academic Dishonesty
Observational research has demonstrated that academic dishonesty is both a pervasive and
developing issue among Australian criminal justice and policing students. Studies have shown that
there are numerous individual attributes and relevant elements that support the pervasiveness of
academic dishonesty. A survey of seventy nine undergraduate criminal justice and policing students
studying at an Australian universitycame up with these observations upon statistics. It is evident
from the data that the male genderare the significant predictors of self reported academic dishonesty
. Australia summons the need to look at academic dishonesty conduct inside the accomplice of
future criminal justice and policing careers. Males inclusion in academic dishonesty might be
clarified by the gender role struggle that happens when males are associated into conventional parts
of manliness, steady stresses over individual accomplishments, disappointment and profession
accomplishments. Females were found to hold significantly higher adverse attitudes towards
cheating than males. These gender contrasts were related with a moderately little impact size. As
opposed to these discoveries on gender, some more reliable outcomes have developed with respect
to how much ethnicity or being from a non English talking foundation is prescient of academic
dishonesty. It is generally agreed that students from a non English speaking background are more
likely to engage in academic dishonesty according to

troubles in which Pincus could not handle. First, Pincus ended up having to layoff over 17% of
his staff due to underperformance with the games (Pepitone 1). This had a detrimental effect on
the company because losing a great deal of employees not only results in money loss, but also in
loss of productivity. Next, Pincus was faced with trouble surrounding his games. This trouble
occurred when the company was forced to shutter over a dozen of their games due to loss of
active users. Since the first shuttering, several more have occurred (Pepitone 1). As a result of

Themes In The Sapphires
The Sapphires directed by Wayne Blair represents the theme of war throughout the film with the use
of cinematic techniques and setting. The Sapphires follows four aboriginal girls; Julie, Cynthia,
Gail and Kay on their adventure to Vietnam in the midst of the Civil Rights Movement and the
Vietnam War. The film follows the four girls on their journey around Vietnam performing for
American troops while fulfilling their dreams of becoming a famous singing group. Throughout the
film, Blair explores the theme of war through a variety of scenes and techniques. War ruins the lives
of many people and this is demonstrated through the film with the use of cinematic techniques,
setting and with the support of other themes. By exploring the theme of war, Blair is able to help
the audience make connections to the film through the events and setting the character s
experience. Wayne Blair depicts the theme of war with the scene of the girls arriving in Vietnam
and travelling to their camp. Through the use of setting, the devastation of war is displayed with
the change of scenery as they travel further within the country. When the girls and Dave are first
travelling through, the setting is bright and cheerful; they are happy and excited which is shown
through a medium long shot of the characters and their transport. As they travel further into the
country, the scenery changes as it becomes gloomy and is destroyed. Through the tracking medium

Similes In The Hanging, By George Orwell
The hanging is a short story written by George Orwell is in essence an anti capital punishment
piece written to persuade the reader that capital punishment s an unjust crime against humanity, and
just as bad as whatever crime the criminal has committed. George Orwell throughout the literary
piece makes use of similes, contrasts, and irony in order to persuade the reader of Orwell s
viewpoint.
Furthermore, throughout the short story in its entirety we see the constant use of similes in an
effort to help the reader visualize the scene at hand. For instance, during the start of the story we
see Orwell equate the jail cell to, small animal cages ; Orwell does this to help illustrate to the
reader the truly abominable circumstances that befell the prisoners of the facility. If Orwell were
to simply state that the conditions were atrocious it d be easier to distance ourselves from the
conditions at hand, by using this simile he has in effect made it nearly impossible for the reader
to distance themselves, as the imagery cascades into his thoughts through the simile. Moreover,
as they grab onto the prisoner and forcibly hold onto him to prevent any potential escape attempt,
Orwell likens the situation to, Men handling a fish which is still alive and may jump back into
the water. Orwell does this with the intention of painting the image of a small slippery man
being handled by men who can t get a grip upon him due to the rain and his stature. Furthermore,
when the prisoner is crying out Ram, Ram, Ram! Orwell says it s akin to the, Tolling of the bell.
which s basically to say it was the sound of death, as funeral homes toll the bell during a funeral
service; ultimately, orwell uses these similes as a way to paint a picture of what s going on in the
reader s head. It brings a darker undertone to the story and helps reinforce what Orwell sees as the
dark, sadistic nature of capital punishment.
Moreover, Orwell uses contrasting ideas to further indulge the reader plunging deeper into the
abyss of gloom that Orwell is attempting to get the reader to stare into. Orwell illustrates this rather
soundly when the dog is brought into the equation, It came bounding among us with a loud volley
of barks, and

Comparison Of Ansel Adams s Life And Work
Ansel Adams a photographer and environmentalist, was born on February 20, 1902 in San
Francisco, California, the son of Charles Hitchcock Adams, a businessman, and Olive Bray. He
was the grandson of a wealthy timber baron. An only child, Adams was born when his mother was
forty. His relatively elderly parents, affluent familyhistory, and the presence of his mothers maiden
sister and aged father all combined to create an environment that was both socially and emotionally
conservative. Adams s mother spent much of her time brooding and fretting over her husband s
inability to restore the Adams fortune, leaving an ambivalent imprint on her son. Charles Adams,
on the other hand, deeply and patiently influenced, encouraged, and supported his son.

A Brief Note On The State Of Economic Crisis
H2O Can t be a No
Cochabamba, one of the poorest cities in the world has almost no access to safe water and its
citizens suffer from life threatening waterborne disease. Cochabamba s economy cannot afford the
necessary infrastructure to ensure everyone access to safe water. Bechtel must privatize
Cochabamba s water, offloading the previously unaffordable infrastructure to distribute water to the
underserved poor.
1 How did Bolivia get into the situation it s in now? What led to this need for privatization?

scarcity of fresh water. Privatization will provide the economic stability necessary to advance

In the long run, water is conserved, solving the water crisis and providing water to all Bolivian
families.
2 What is the political climate in Bolivia? Will it support your bid?
Richer citizens are capable of getting by with safe water, but poorer settlements have limited
access to water and are desperately in need of a privatized water system. In Villa San Miguel, the
residents had recently dug a well, increasing their access to water. As Finnegan states, Clean water
was suddenly plentiful and relatively cheap households paid the water cooperative between two
and five dollars a month to cover the costs of running the pump and maintaining the system. [4].
Through the foundation of a new, inexpensive water source, this well provided water to 210
families. The expenses are covered by the townspeople, whom collectively can fund cheaper water
sources compared with public access. Although this drastically decreases the number of people
without water access, this is not a sustainable water source and will soon run out, excentrifying
pollution and halting access.
As for people without public access nor locally funded water sources struggle to survive with
minimal water and the diseases acquired by pollutants. The population is growing, and Cochabamba
does not have a water system in place to support all community members, resulting in an increase of
people without water. Finnegan continues by stating that, Today, Cochabamba is ringed by dozens

How Did Rome Lead To The Creation Of Rome
During the later days of the Republic, the Romans expanded their interests far beyond their

The Rise Of The Progressive Era
During the Progressive Era, which was known as a large reform movement, there was a widespread
across the United States of political reform and social activism. The main focus and goal of the
Progressives and their movement was lowering government involvement and eliminating corruption
in the government. Progressives reacted to problems caused by large factories and cities.
Furthermore, they attacked big corporations, such as the Armour meat packing company and
others, for how harsh their practices were. The progressives exposed these companies and how they
treated workers, removed competitors, and set high prices. The meatpackingindustry capitalized
when the growth of livestock farming in the Midwest started to grow rapidly. Meatpacking
companies and industries, such as the Armour meat packing company, handle the slaughtering,
processing, and distribution of animals including cattle and pigs. Although the meatpacking
industry created a lot of jobs, working in a meatpacking company was not luxurious because the
factories were unsanitary, unregulated, and tremendously dangerous.

Essay Nathaniel Hawthorne
Nathaniel Hawthorne s hatred of Puritanism was so big that he described in many of his writing
such as The Scarlet Letter and The Minster Black Veil. He usually satirized them as evildoers and
sin creators, not holy and Christ zealous as they described themselves. Hawthorne also used the
effects of mysterious human mind and spontaneous action to describe the Puritan as satanic
worship and God disobedience. In result, his writing reflected much of his Puritan ancestry
affections. Nathaniel Hawthornewas born in Salem, Massachusetts on July 4, 1804. His father

His lack of affection for Elizabeth and his rejection for the community exposed him as selfish soul,
fear of women, and a socialist (Coale).
Nathaniel Hawthorne used the black veil as the symbol of the mystery for many readers and
critics. The veil represented an artistic symbol and a hidden ultimate meaning. The ultimate
meaning was the dark side of human feeling and deep emotion. It may emerge as the great power
to dominate man s feeling and their limits. When the power rose more powerful, it became the great
fear and hopelessness (Freedman).
The veil also used as concealment for the mysterious truth and the protection of the ugly truth.
The veil was a symbolic disguise for the corruption of human s mind and conscience. It covered
Hooper s sinful nature and revealed Hooper as a terrorist and a horrified preacher. The veil
suggested to the readers a sense of curiosity and the possibility of abnormal complex of human mind
(Coale, Freedman, and Mellow). Hawthorne continued his writing career with the most successful
classic, The Scarlet Letter in 1850. The story was about love, judgment, and condemnation of the
Puritan society. Hester Prynne, a young beautiful woman who was accused of adultery and had to

The paper concludes with a critical appraisal in connection with a comparison to other process

UML In the following, a general overview of UML as a unified language will be given. It is
important to provide a basis for a better understanding of how UML works in logistical processes.
Therefore a short outline of the history and the development of UML will be presented with a
subsequent explanation of what UML is and what types of diagrams exist. 2.1Development of
UML The origin of UML is software development. But in the 90 s, a large number of different
approaches, several books on object oriented software modeling and a lot of graphical notations
existed. The most prominent representatives of object oriented notations are Booch from Grady
Booch, Objectory from Ivar Jacobson and Object Modeling Technique (OMT) from James
Rumbaugh. The initiators of UML gradually recognized the significance of a unified method for
software engineering. In 1995 Grady Booch and Jim Rumbaugh combined their both methods
Booch and OMT and announced Unified Method 0.8 (UM 0.8) at the conference OOPSLA in
Austin, Texas. But this method lacked on the integration of the customer and the user of the
system. Soon Ivar Jacobson who brought the focus to the Use Case Diagram joined Booch and
Rumbaugh. Together they reduced the range of UM 0.8 to a pure language and so developed the

Throughout the whole book, Cassia constantly stated her interest in the Rising. Every time she
would mention it, Ky would say how much he hated it and he and Cassia would get in an
argument. That s why I was really surprised when he joined the Rising especially since he had to
run the entire way there, while Cassia and Indie got to canoe. This is significant because Ky
hated the Rising with all of his heart because it s the reason his parents were killed, but despite his
hate for it, he joined it anyway to be with Cassia. Getting this message from the book was pretty
self explanatory because in the first book they had no disagreements, so their relationship was

Symptoms And Treatment Of Eisenmenger Syndrome
Eisenmenger Syndrome is a congenital heart defect that is associated with long term elevated blood
flow through the pulmonary vasculature, which tends to cause pulmonary hypertension and
increasing pulmonary vascular resistance (D Alto, 2014). Moreover, this is a heart defect that
causes a hole to develop between two chambers of the heart(D Alto, 2014). The hole causes bloodto
circulate abnormally in the heart and lungs. Increased blood flow returns to your lungs instead of
going to the rest of your body (D Alto, 2014.) People with Eisenmenger s syndrome commonly
present with chronic cyanosis and progressive exercise intolerance. People with congenital heart
diseases that have significant untreated left to right shunt lesions are at an increasing risk of
developing pulmonary arterial hypertension (Kopeć et al., 2014). Eisenmenger syndrome was
initially described in 1897 when German physician, Victor Eisenmenger, reported on a patient with
symptoms of dyspnea and cyanosis from infancy that subsequently developed heart failure
(Kopeć, 2014). The postmortem description was revealed and a ventricular septal defect was
discovered (Dillar, 2006). With that being said, this had been the first time that the link between a
large congenital cardiac shunt defect and the development of pulmonary hypertension had ever
been noted (Dillar, 2006). In terms of the heart, a normal one has four chambers; the two upper
chambers are separated from each other by the atrial septum (Krexi,

The Treaty got rid of 13% of their land 10% of their population with most of their land being
economically beneficial (Todd, Allan). The reason why some historians believe that the Treaty
of Versaille was the root cause of economic failure is because of the war guilt clause, Article 231.
ARTICLE 231 The Allied and Associated Governments affirm and Germany accepts the
responsibility of Germany and her allies for causing all the loss and damage to which the Allied
and Associated Governments and their nationals have been subjected as a consequence of the
war imposed upon them by the aggression of Germany and her allies. (Treaty of Peace). With
their land loss and population decrease Germany was only able to pay 2.5% of their annual GDP
for reparations(HANTKE, MAX). They were expected to pay 230 million gold marks which they
could only offer 30 million gold marks (20th century international relations). With most of their
population missing and with less land they can produce less than they could before the war while
they have to make more than before because of the war guilt clause of Article 231. That s why the
the treaty is significant to the economic collapse of Germany and why some historians would

The Complexity of the Kidney
Kidneys are complex organs that are very important when it comes to the many functions to help
maintain the health of the body. This includes the maturation of the red blood cells, regulation of
blood pressure as well as secretion of hormones. The Secondary functions of the filtration effect the
controlling of the acid base balance in the body, and maintaining bone health (livingstrong.com).
Kidney structure include the renal corpuscle that filters the blood, passing of urine, and different
tubules (comprised of a dowman s capsule and glomerulus). The renal corpuscle are made of ...

In addition the nephron is divided into several segments. The Henie cell includes a special
transporter called sodium potassium 2, chloride contransporter (nkcc) that allows the kidney to
produce urine (biology.com). The distal tubule cell help contain thiazide sensitive sodium
filtered by the kidney on a daily basis, and the collecting duct that have two cells responsible for
acid base hemostasis. The alpha intercalated cell controls the excess of secretion and reabsorbing
base (form of bicarbonates) and the beta intercalated cell which includes the same function
(biology.com). Every day the kidney s filter on an average of about 120 to 150 quarts of blood
that produces 1 to 2 quarts of urine that has extra fluid and waste. The importance of the kidney is
to keep the blood stable so the body can function properly. The fluids that are removed from the
body help prevent blood cells and large molecules (proteins) from passing. Once filtered it can pass
through the tubule that sends minerals back into the blood stream to remove waste (niddk.nih.gov).
If the kidney functions properly it regulates the retention of fluids in the body. It balances the
chemicals like potassium for the heart and muscle function. It can also maintain acid balance and
proteins. Hormones in the kidney stimulate activity in the body, renin erythropoietin, and a form of
vitamin D. Renin helps to control blood pressure. The kidney also releases the erythropoietin to help

Cinematography was defined throughout the film as the making of a motion picture. I found out

Depression Is A Serious Condition
According to brain and behavior research foundation (BBRF), Depression is a serious condition that
negatively affects how a person thinks, feels, and behaves. In contrast to normal sadness, clinical
depression is persistent, often interferes with a person s ability to experience or anticipate pleasure,
and significantly interferes with functioning in daily life. Untreated, symptoms can last for weeks,
months, or years; and if inadequately treated, depression can lead to significant impairment, other
health related issues, and in rare cases, suicide. Some of the symptoms include; depressed mood
most of the day, nearly every day, markedly diminished interest or pleasure in activities most of the
day, nearly every day, changes in appetite that result in weight losses or gains unrelated to dieting,
Changes in sleeping patterns, Loss of energy or increased fatigue, restlessness or irritability, feelings
of anxiety, feelings of worthlessness, helplessness, or hopelessness, inappropriate guilt, difficulty
thinking, concentrating, or making decisions and thoughts of death or attempts at suicide ((BBRF,

Enough Is Enough Alain De Botton
When is Enough, Enough?
In his chapter Equality, Expectation, and Envy of his book Status Anxiety, Alain de Botton
analyzes the social anxieties of people. In his article, Botton explains the possible causes of these
dilemmas, and how these social issues affect our generation today. Throughout the chapter, Botton
discusses peoples longing to be better, the impact of equality on the world, and the realistic results
of high expectations and hopes. Although modern society seems to have had a tremendous
improvement of resources over many generations, people fear that enough is not enough.
Society strives for more and better things, even when they already have more and better things.
Botton explains that we decide our wants and set our limits by comparing ourselves to our
reference groups (Botton 25) A reference group is an assemblage of people in similar conditions
as our own. We suddenly become hateful and envious when someone that we correspond and
relate to is more dominant and successful than us in whatever way. In addition to comparisons and
envy, Botton discusses how we only compare ourselves to people in our reference groups. In our
society, it is easy to know when someone may have had more or ... Show more content on

He begins by explaining how the greater the number of people whom we take to be as our
equals and compare ourselves to, the more there will be for us to envy. (Botton 27) Although
very common today, equality was not an accepted belief in the past. It was presumed that people
were born into their position, low or high. Slaves were not considered people and lived a life of
servitude; they could not build their way up to a higher position. Aristotle stated in Politics, It is
clear that some men are by nature free and others are by nature slaves, and that is for these latter,
slavery is both expedient and right (qtd. in Botton

Induction And Hypnotic Induction
Prior to going directly to the hypnotic induction techniques, it is necessary to know the meaning

psychology it defines the word as Any act or process of bringing about a change, as of inducing a

The Life And Accomplishments Of Frederick Douglass
When speaking of how African Americans evolved from being slaves to becoming free, one must
not fail to mention the life and accomplishments of Frederick Douglass. The actions taken by
Frederick Douglas and others that pave the way were perceived as huge achievements then and
now. Negros, as they were called in the 17th and 18th century where considered nothing more than
slaves. Being a slave did not grant human rights to anything at any time or any place. But Frederick
Douglass had different plans other than only being a slave. Overcoming slaverywould become a life
long journey with the thoughts of becoming a free man the only possible option. Frederick
Douglass was born in slavery as Frederick Augustus Washington Bailey in Talbot County,
Maryland. By only knowing his mother s name and not knowing his date of birth or who his
father was, this was normal for many Negros. This hurdle was only a few of many challenges that
were not only faced by Frederick Douglas but also by many other slave s at this time. Growing up,
Frederick Douglass was a very mild mannered child. He was originally a house Negro who learned
very quickly what roles slaves played in their society. Slaves were not privileged to anything,
they were not privileged to learn to read, write or know their history, which crippled slaves into
centuries of oppression. But early in his life, Frederick Douglass knew this was not going to be his
way of living.
When Douglass was a very young child he lived with his

Bariaso Hussein Case Study
I m very happy to write this letter and share with you what a pleasure it s been to manage Bariso
Hussein these past six months. Bariso was initially working here at Stoel Rives mail room from
3pm to 6pm each night after school. With the start of summer, he began working full days from
10am to 6pm, Monday through Friday. Bariso entered this full time schedule with much enthusiasm
and he even expressed interest in learningother duties and responsibilities so that he may better
support the team, and better support Stoel Rives. Bariso learned quickly, and demonstrated a great
attention to detail in his time with us. In addition, Bariso s support over the summer has been a

Bariso took the initiative to improve the process for the Work Room Supply Checklist which he
would use when stocking work rooms. He took a basic, confusing excel spreadsheet and
enhanced it into a clear and concise check list. We will continue to use this same, edited
checklist file. This is only one of many examples of Bariso going above and beyond. In another
example, he ran to the post office to make a 2pm cutoff to mail off paperwork related to an
important case. Bariso demonstrated a can do attitude and helped us bring resolution to many
staff requests, urgent and otherwise. Overall, Bariso has helped my team to raise the bar and
improve our level of service. Our Office Services team strives for service excellence, and I m
very pleased to say that Bariso adopted our philosophy. I m also confident that he ll continue to
strive for excellence in all of his endeavors. Please don t hesitate to reach out to me with any

During The Mid.-Nineteenth Century, Victorian England Was
During the Mid. nineteenth century, Victorian England was divided into distinct social classes.
The three social classes included the working, middle, and upper leisure class. As the Industrial
Revolution advanced, the working class became very isolated from the leisure class and often
had low paying jobs such as a blacksmith, tradesman, and farmer. The wealthy ladies and
gentlemen of the leisure class lacked awareness that their frivolous lifestyle was built on the
laborious work of the working class. Charles Dickens wrote Great Expectations to criticize the
social classes during Victorian England. Great Expectations follows the story of working class Pip

Herbert signifies that being a gentleman comes from within, and someone s integrity, like the
varnish of wood, can always be uncovered. Herbert and Matthew Pocket are true gentlemen
because of their behavior and moral integrity, not their upbringing. Whereas Compeyson is a
counterfeiter, who uses his wealthy leisure class appearance to deceive others into thinking he
is less guilty than the lower class criminals. Additionally, when Herbert brings Pip to the Pocket
household, Pip notices that Mrs. Pocket had been raised with high expectations herself but was
perfectly helpless and useless (188). Dickens ridicules the social privilege and snobbery that is
idolized in Victorian society when the self centered Mrs. Pocket spends all her time reading
books about titles and nobility. Due to the fact Mrs. Pocket is a negligent mother, her children
tumble over her feet, and also play with dangerous toys, with the Pockets maid rescuing them
from accidents. She has no skills, morality, and she lives her entire life fixated on the false idea
that she was meant for greater things. Finally, when Pip and Herbert join a social club for
gentlemen called Finches of the Grove, Pip mentions that the members would dine expensively
once a fortnight, to quarrel among themselves as much as possible after dinner, and to cause six

Introduction For this situation, the discriminating part is in the execution of new framework is

application. The business profiles included for this situation are Leon Lassite, Vice President of
Marketing, Jeff Hedge, Vice President of Public Finance, Simon Kovecki, Systems Analyst and
Greg Ginder, President of Unitrak Software Corporation.
The principle issue that emerged in the chamber of commerce was identified with issues
confronted amid the usage process. The new smart phone application framework couldn t be viably
worked because of the absence of coordination and cooperation between the key elements of

Lord Of The Flies Reflection Essay
Behavior is the mirror in which everyone shows their image. This insightful quote, written by
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, relates to the story of The Lord of the Flies greatly. A person s
true color shines through when put in a place of freedom. The story, by William Golding, is
about a group of boys stranded on an island during the war. They fight to survive and their morals
change a lot in the process; both physically and mentally. The ways their appearances change was
parallel to the ways their behaviors change, including their filth and metaphorical filth, their
painted faces and sense of community, and their ways of dress compared to their rebellious
actions. The way the filth grew on the boys was parallel to the way their behaviors increased in
filth . As time went on, the filth slowly built up on their skin and in their hair They were slowly
covered in grease and dirt. Their behaviors grew in a similar manner; the boys soon grew to
make poor decisions and act very aggressively. The newly found filth and behavior was accepted
among the group as their time on the island increased. Their filth was a normal part of their lives
and everyone was okay with it. Ralph was running from the other boys and hiding in the woods,
His hair was full of dirt and tapped like the tendrils of a creeper (Golding 235). He could not get
the same amount of cleanliness while he was out in the woods. Their behaviors changed and they

the drying process, the front lace portion is attached to the glued area, which creates a secure
bond to keep the wig secured on the head. It is important for the glue to be applied properly. If not

The Devil In The White City Critical Analysis
Two stories focusing on horrific murder share more than just that similarity. The Devil in the White
City is a novel by Erik Larson that focuses on America s first serial killer, Herman Webster Mudgett,
most commonly known as H. H. Holmes. It alternates telling of the construction of the Chicago
World Fair contrasting with the horrendous murders of the man that essentially invented the term
psychopath. On the other hand, The Hound of Baskervilles by Sir Arthur Conan Doylefocuses on
the tale of Sherlock Holmes and John Watson as they try to solve the mystery surrounding the death
of Charles Baskerville. These themes are linked through murderand the British surname Holmes, an
alias taken from Doyle s stories to claim to have land in England.

Liturgical Theology Chapter Summary
Chan, Simon. Liturgical Theology: The Church as Worshiping Community. Downers Grove, IL:
IVP Academic, 2006. Simon Chan, in his book Liturgical Theology: The Church as Worshiping
Community, challenges the Evangelical Pentecostal worldview through the lens of liturgy and
sacrament. As a theologian in the Assemblies of God denomination, Chan poses the question, of
whether the church is an instrument to accomplish God s purpose in creation or an expression of
God s ultimate purpose itself. This is expressed through the term divine humanity, each chapter
slowly begins to unravel how the church should strive to be the object Christ to the world, thus
becoming its identity. The focus of the book began to combine such an expression of liturgical
theology in the Pentecostal mindset. Chan engages the reader to critically analyze why church
progressions are made in certain ways, as well as why we believe what we believe in the
Pentecostal view. Shmeman, Aleksandr. For the Life of the World: Sacraments and Orthodoxy.

Breastfeeding Vs Bottle Feeding Essay
Mothers around the world have a common goal, to give their babies the best of everything. All
mothers want their babies to have the best chances at life to thrive and survive. When a new
mother has had her baby, the next question usually is will you breastfeed or bottle feed your
baby? For some, that might be a very easy decision and for others it will be a complicated issue
as it s a decision that has to be made early. For mothers in Africa, the choice is particularly hard,
especially if they have AIDS. These mothers risk much more than most moms to give their babies
the best chance of survival. Information is not easy to come by to educate these women in their
choices. Infection can still be passed on, antibiotics have to be given and food is still scarce but
formula is so expensive that it often cannot be considered because money is not available for that
big of a purchase. Breastfeedingis the best tool a mother can give a baby.
Breastfeeding is the most natural inclination a baby is born with. They are born knowing it is
what they need. That does not always mean it is the easiest thing to learn between mother and
baby as they both have to find a way that works for them. Hardwiring is a term that neuroscientists
use to refer to reflexes and instincts that are built in to you and your baby s bodies and brains....

a food and water shortage in Africa, breastfeeding the baby for as long as a mother can, allows the
baby to still receive nutrients and antibodies from the mother to help them fight off diseases that
plague children. Children face malnutrition, malaria, diarrhea, measles, and pneumonia and the
longer the mother can breastfeed the better chances her baby has to build up their immune

How I Spent Active And Be Outdoors
Since I was a young boy, I ve always loved to stay active and be outdoors. I used to go to the park
almost every day and play with my friends. I enjoyed playing all types of sports, especially
basketball and soccer, and still do today. I joined several sports leagues throughout my life as well.
I played 3 years of soccer, and 5 years of basketball. Even though it was only club sports, I still
played every gamelike it was my last, and always pushed myself to improve my abilities. Sadly,
many of the physical activities I participated in throughout my life came to an end, when I injured

told me to stop playing basketball for the next 3 months and also cut my gym membership. It was
one of the worst nights of my life.
Basketball tryouts were 2 weeks away, and I knew I wouldn t be able to tryout. I tried healing my
ankle the fastest way possible, but the process was still too slow. I put ice on it everyday and rested
as much as I could. I was barely able to walk in the beginning, and even missed a few days of
school. Once I could walk, it didn t hurt too badly, but I still couldn t play basketball. I was really
disappointed, but I knew not to give up. I set a positive mindset for myself and hoped to be
healthy for tryouts next year. Once my ankle healed, I went back to my routine, and played
basketball almost every day. I wore an ankle brace, so it protected my ankle from getting sprained
again. My brace restricted a lot of movement and it was not the same, but I had to wear it for my
own good.

Essay On Operation Barbarossa
One of the classic what ifs of the World War II is what if the German invasion of the Soviet
Union in June 1941, known as Operation Barbarossa , would have been a success? Hitler being
very optimistic though he could and all he had to do was to kick in the door down and the whole
rotten structure of Stalin s regime would come falling down on him and his regime. Although
Operation Barbarossawas considered a complete failure, in many respects the operation was a
complete success. The Germans had the upper hand took the Soviets by surprise. The Wehrmacht or

They were uncertain whether to attack to assault Stalingrad, Moscow or Ukraine. Each had its
own particular key significance but since of the sheer size of Russia, it was an awful thought to
assault every city at once, yet that is exactly what they did. This separation of troops had the
German lines two far spread out and the Russian Red Army was able to smash through the German
lines and surrounded the city of Stalingrad. This left the once compelling German sixth army was
caught inside the city. It was simply an issue of time before the noose would begin to tighten around
the worn down and tired Germans. Besides; the Russian winter was something the Germans were
not arranged for. Most of the Wehrmacht soldiers were wearing garments made for medium climate
weather, which was nothing during this unusually cold winter. A lot of their number succumbed to
the cold. At the point when the winter finished, things improved, the defrost that originated from
the softening snow muddied almost every street making it amazingly troublesome for Nazi tanks,
trucks and even men to travel. The rate of advancement was slowed down due to the mud. Thirdly,
the eastern front was just not the Red Army versus the Wehrmacht, there were numerous fanatic
groups as well. These groups used guerrilla warfare to attack German convoys and troops while

Conflict Between Romeo And Juliet Essay
The conflict between the Capulet and The Montague families grows stronger every day as well the
push for supremacy. Romeos intrusion into a Capulet s party transformed Tybalt s condition into an
uncontrolled state which led to a fight between his nemeses Romeo and Mercutio. The dispute
between these 3 young adults is described as humorous but quite solemn by Shakespeare. The
emotions that each character portrays at the beginning sequence are quite joyful and members of
both houses speak with sarcastic tones and many jokes are passed along to one another. As the

plague o both your houses! as well as speaking ill of Romeo in which he states Why the devil

bystanders by averring in a metaphorical and hostile tone that the houses of Capulet and
Montague should be rid of their feud or more men (like Mercutio) will wind up either dead, hurt
or betrayed by one of their own. The passing away of Mercutio also dampens the previous joyful
mood of Tybalt, Romeo and the bystanders in which they now relies that Mercutio s words were
not of a normal human being but of a spiritual presence/being, which tries to portray the idea of
equality and how no one person or in this case family should be higher than any other. If peace

What Is True Individual Freedom In The Story Of An Hour
True individual freedom cannot exist without independence, was a quote Franklin D. Roosevelt
once said. What is meant by this statement is you cannot have freedom without independence
and vice versa. It s like the peanut butter needed in a jelly sandwich. Mrs Mallard represents this
quote in the short story The Story of An Hour by Kate Chopin. One day, Mrs. Mallard, the
protagonist received the news that her husband had died in a railroad accident. Once she had
heard this, she went to her room and started to sob. She was sad that her husband died, yet she
often had not loved him. But then, she realized that she can be free and independent since her

Mallard starts to feel free and independent since her husband isn t around the house anymore. She
came to her consensus that there are positive things that are coming from this. In the story, Mrs.
Mallard says Free Body and soul free! she kept whispering (15). The reader learns that Mrs.
Mallard is now feeling like waves of freedom have washed over her, instead of gloomy ones. She
realized that she is now not held back by anyone, as she was seemingly restricted by her husband
to do things she had always dreamed of doing, by herself. Her body and soul are free, looking
forward to fun days later on in her life. She could finally have the freedom and independence she
had always wanted. A little further into the story, Mrs. Mallard s thoughts are Spring and summer
days, and all sorts of days that would be her own. She breathed a quick prayer that life might be
long (18). This is another example of the author showing Mrs. Mallard s independence and
freedom. She is looking forward to free and independent spring and summer days in the future. She
also makes a quick prayer that life might be long because she now wants to experience fun days
with her two new traits. Mrs. Mallard wants her freedom and independence to be the longest it
possibly can, up until she dies. Mrs. Mallard wants to experience her freedom and independence

Switching Power In Oroonoko, By Aphra Behn
Once power is given it cannot be taken away that is the way everyone thinks right that if the
status is higher up it cannot be knocked down. Wrong. Just as quickly power is given it can be
taken away even faster. One narrative I will discuss in this essay is Oroonoko by Aphra Behn. This
narrative could be viewed in many different ways. One way it can be seen is as a biography,
another is a memoir, but it can also be seen as a travel narrative. In this essay I will touch base on
the topics of switching power. By switching power I mean how different individual s power
fluctuates within situations in the novel. Aphra Behnand Oroonokoare able to exceed the way they
are viewed. Behn is both the narrator and the author and Oroonoko is the prince as well as a
slave. Behn is able to be identified as not only powerful, but also as the sideline or less important.
All the while Oronooko is the prince and also a slave. Both an example Behn used to portray an
exchange of power. The slave narrative Oroonoko by Aphra Behn shows how power is switched in
different ways. Behn and Oroonoko s power fluctuates making the narrative interesting and
Aphra Behn is the daughter of a lieutenant Governor. That alone gives her a sense of power and
within the text she points out her house being beautiful. She states As soon as I came into the
country, the best house in it was presented me, called St. Johns Hill. While she tells her story we

  • 2. Eating Disorder And Disordered Eating Another issue that seems to be prevalent is the distinction between an eating disorder and disordered eating. These two are frequently misunderstood and used out of context. Disordered eating is almost the same thing as an eating disorder with a few differences. Someone who suffers from disordered eating is someone who does the same things as someone who suffers from an actual diagnosed eating disorder but with less frequently. An example of this would be purging after eating an excessive amount of food. Those who suffer from disordered eating often times have a history of depression or anxiety. In addition to mental health consequences, ED have physical health consequences. The National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) lists some health consequences associated with AN and BN. For AN, health consequences include reduction of bone density (osteoporosis), severe dehydration, which can result in kidney failure, fainting, fatigue, anemia, a lower immune system function, slowed heart rate, even poor circulation of the blood, and overall weakness (NEDA). Some of the physical effects for BN are inflammation and possible rupture of the esophagus from frequent vomiting, chronic irregular bowel movements and constipation as a result of laxative abuse, and peptic ulcers and pancreatitis. (NEDA). Premature birth, muscle fatigue, tooth decay, and mental health issues can all arise from a BN as well. Multiple studies and reviews have been conducted to investigate the ... • 3. The Benefits Of Robots The science of technology started in the 19th century and by the 20th century the advancement of technology has introduced robots. These robots have flexible intents that benefit society by performing tasks that are harmful to humans. The radical approach of technology to include machines that are capable of doing what human beings cannot do is astute. Within the last few years, robots have been used to perform surgeries, combat in the military and help children with disabilities inside the education system. Controversies have been said about living in a society where technology controls humans but many of these technological advances are now beneficial and are been used everyday. Popular: Christopher Wanjek, a health and science journalist, explores the topic on surgeries using robots in the article Robot Performs First Ever Surgery inside Human Eye (Robot Performs First Ever Surgery inside Human Eye). This was the first surgery performed in 2017. The surgery consisted of the robot removing fine growth on the retina. Surgeons, who are trained to complete these surgeries, tend to have trouble performing the surgeries without making any mistakes. Cutting too deeply can cause a hemorrhages and scares that can lead to visual impairment. Little things like the pulse of the doctor can cause negative effects on patients and rather than helping them out, it could actually harm them. After performing the surgery, the patients who went through the surgery performed by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Controversy In Shirley Jackson s The Lottery Shirley Jackson s story The Lottery stirred up a lot of controversy when it was first published in The New Yorker in 1948. Considering that it is a short story, and only took a few hours to write no one suspected the impact it would have on everyone. It was widely disliked, and most people were highly confused by it. Many people unsubscribed to the magazine, and Jackson received a lot of hate mail because of it. The fictional story tells of the events that take place in a town once a year. A lottery is held, and one person is chosen to be stoned to death. Jackson s message seems to be about how easy it is to conform to something, even senseless violence, just because it is considered a tradition. Now it is one of the most recognized stories ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... None of the villagers, even her own family, show any sadness about what they are about to do. All of the villagers act very apathetic about the situation. They act as if this is just another chore that needs to be done. This shows how much everyone has conformed to this tradition. Their lack of emotion confirms how easily it is to go along with something just because that s what you re used to. All right, folks. Mr. Summers said. Let s finish quickly. (7) Shirley Jackson s The Lottery tells of an event that is held once a year. Where a drawing is held and one person is chosen to be stoned to death. The tone and the point of view this story it is written in helps emphasize the meaning of the story. You don t know what is coming so the ending has a greater impact on the reader. • 5. The New Brunswick Islamic Center Since the dawn of time, religion has been the staple of humanity. It has been our explanation for the unexplainable, as well a way for us to form a community with those around us. Due to the natural diversity of humans, a varied set of separate religions has formed throughout the world. Religions continue to adapt and inspire each other, however, they all have their differences, as well as internal differences through the observations of each believer. The exterior of the New Brunswick Islamic Center is incredibly misleading. The outside appears similar to a factory, yet, it s the inside that suggests something holier. The inner appearance of the religious center is not very extravagant either, yet, it has a respectful atmosphere to it. Everyone acknowledges each other with a warm greeting, and everyone acts friendly. The building itself only was composed of a lobby and a musallahВё or ritual hall. The women sat separated from the men, and everyone was required to remove their shoes. The age distribution was very spread out. Many young children accompanied their parents to prayer, while many older worshippers came alone. In fact, the lowest subset age wise were college and high school aged students. The dress of the worshippers was perhaps the most varied. Some were in traditional garb, some were in basketball shorts and snapbacks, and some even fused traditional robes with baseball caps. The service attended was Dhruhr, the midday prayer. The service begins with a sermon by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. George Wells Dystopian Science Fiction Wells Done Herbert George Wells was a paradox of a man. Despite having a fascination with utopias, advocated free love, and had an optimistic vision for humanity, Wells created the modern dystopian template, married twice, and wrote works with dark themes, such as The Island of Dr. Moreau. These contradictions may have been rooted in his childhood. Herbert George Wells was born in the town of Bromley, located in Kent, England, to a set of lower middle class parents. Despite his parents lack of education, Wells attempted to educate himself . . . by reading in the libraries of his mother s employers. . . according to Novels to Students ( The Island 154). During his self education, he unknowingly laid the foundation for his... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Moreau in a conversation between Prendick and Montgomery, the man who saved Prendick s life, in chapter two where the two men talk about biology. Evolution and vivisections, on the other hand, play a major role in the plot of the tale. Moreau uses vivisection to turn animals into human esque beings. On page 45 of The Island of Dr. Moreau, Prendick claims to hear a scream that sounded as if It was if all the pain in the world had found a voice . This was Wells playing on the fear of vivisection. In reality, it was as safe as any other surgery during his time. As the tale continues, Moreau admits that his forced evolution backfires after a period of time and his Beast Folk become their former feral selves. In chapter sixteen, Prendick notes: As I [looked in that direction] the Hyena Swine saw [the Leopard Man] and flung itself upon it with and eager cry, thrusting thirsty teeth into its neck . Even before the other Beast Folk begin to regress, the Hyena Swine appears to be more feral than the rest, suggesting that either Moreau purposely made him that way or his regression from his previously evolved state occurs faster than the rest. This maybe due to the fact the Hyena Swine seems to have more adrenaline highs than the others, since Moreau seems to have him help with the tracking of Beast Folk who disobeyed Moreau s laws. Those adrenaline highs ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Most Popular Teams Hail From The Northwest The Sounders played the timbers for the first time on may 2nd, 1975, a 1 0 victory for the sounders that would start the most heated and bitter rivalry in all of American soccer. The Seattle sounders, the larger team from the larger city averages an average 43,000 in attendance for the home games, a continent high and a respectable amount even in europe s most prestigious leagues. Compared to portlands smaller 20,000 average in a smaller venues and a more modest market. The fact that two of the MLS s most popular teams hail from the northwest is no surprise as soccer is more popular here than anywhere else in the US. Aside from popularity the Timbers and Sounders have the success to match, both relatively new teams to the mls, the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But this strays from why they dislike each other, it about who is better, more about who is the best in the northwest. The Seattle sounders have huge infrastructure for the expression of their fans, from huge tifo s created by ECS to mock the timbers, to the march to the match closing down some downtown seattle streets just to show that the fans are willing and able to. When your team can average more fans than Chelsea, the premier league s reigning champion, you have something to be proud of. The Timbers would argue so what, you have more people, but the atmosphere in our city is something you could never match. At any home timbers game you can hear the constant chanting and the green smoke and streamers exploding from the timbers army section. They would say that no fans are as dedicated as theirs. One way the two fanbases each compete off the pitch is in Tifo s, these are huge hand painted images on canvas by the supporters for each game. They will mostly contain some form of taunting to the other team, Seattle and Portland are two of the only teams in the MLS who create these because of the fan man hours and effort they take to create. • 8. Homosexuality In Ancient Japan Homosexuality in Japan was and still is a controversial topic to many. While currently in the United States we are getting better with this subject, things are still quite backwards in Japan. However, just like ancient Rome and Greece, Homosexuality was an honored tradition that was practiced in ancient Japan as well, specifically during the Tokugawa era. This paper is going to focus not only on homosexualityin Japan and its traditions, but also with the Samurai during the Tokugawa era. Similar to ancient Rome and Greece, Japan believed that teachings were best when transferred between man and youth, specifically in a sexual manner. The Japanese as well as the Greeks equated the love between a man and a beardless youth with all... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Kabuki were traveling male performers, which were also commonly known for being prostitutes. There are more than one woodblock prints showing kabuki actors sleeping with male partners. As horrible as it is, an interesting point Leupp makes in his book is that most theaters had to provide sexual access, not just theatrical art. They had to rely on the sexual attractiveness and complaisance of their actors more than on their not highly developed skill as actors to attract clients. He then goes on to say they also relied on the erotic attractions of their handsome young men to draw customers, prostituting these young men, as other kinds of street performers and traveling troupes also did (173). Another interesting fact stated is that kabuki theaters were possibly an outcome due to one of the shogun s preference being for male performers. In my opinion, it s super fascinating that a lot of popular traditions could have been created because of homosexuality in ancient times. Why I say this is because in our society anything gay is (or at least was) covered up mostly because of religion. This is similar to women inventors being covered up and having their ideas stolen by men, I m glad we re finally able to reveal the truths and all of the scorned people will have to deal with it. With all of that being said however, it s still completely disgusting how these kabuki and young men were prostituted and had their bodies sold. I do not agree with this one ... • 9. Essay on Human Relationships in Nella Larsen s Passing Human Relationships in Nella Larsen s Passing Works Cited Not Included The Harlem Renaissance was a turning point for many African Americans. A vast amount of literature was created specifically for this group during this era. For the first time, African Americans were being told that it was okay to be proud of who they were. This new consciousness and self awareness was prominent in many works of literature, but several writers began exploring the darker side of this movement with literature that concentrated on the negative aspects of race relations in America. Nella Larsen s novel Passing concentrates on this theme with the story of Clare, a tragic mulatto who passes as a white person. Not only is Passing representative of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Just because Clare feels no permanent allegiance to either the black or white worlds or any of the classic anguish of the tragic mulatto does not mean that she is not a tragic mulatto (Washington 48). In her own way, Clare Kendry belongs with that group of tragic mulattos?emerging as an individual, not as a stereotype (Davis 98). Her desire to return to her own race on her own terms illustrates her individuality in the face of a stereotypical tragic mulatto. Clare may not be the typical tragic mulatto, but her actions prove that she belongs in this group of literary figures. Clare Kendry passes in order to secure a more stable life. Her desire to do this begins when she is young, after her African American father dies and she is left with her white aunts. While there, Clare begins to want more than what she has as an African American. She used to go over to the south side, and used to almost hate all [African Americans]. Throughout time women in Greece held many different roles. They were wives, prizes to be won, mothers, daughters, etc. Since there is little historical documentation from this time period we must analyze authors such as Hesiod, Homer, Plutarch, and Sappho as primary sources. During the pre archaic age women were a means to gain power, and beget children, although in some situations their advice was taken especially in the case of priestesses and oracles. Many examples of this can be found in Plutarch s life of Theseus. For example Plutarch tells us of Pelops the most prominent king in Peloponnese. He goes on to say He married... The Importance Of Academic Dishonesty Observational research has demonstrated that academic dishonesty is both a pervasive and developing issue among Australian criminal justice and policing students. Studies have shown that there are numerous individual attributes and relevant elements that support the pervasiveness of academic dishonesty. It is evident from the data that the male genderare the significant predictors of self reported academic dishonesty . • 15. Similes In The Hanging, By George Orwell The hanging is a short story written by George Orwell is in essence an anti capital punishment piece written to persuade the reader that capital punishment s an unjust crime against humanity, and just as bad as whatever crime the criminal has committed. George Orwell throughout the literary piece makes use of similes, contrasts, and irony in order to persuade the reader of Orwell s viewpoint. Furthermore, throughout the short story in its entirety we see the constant use of similes in an effort to help the reader visualize the scene at hand. For instance, during the start of the story we see Orwell equate the jail cell to, small animal cages ; Orwell does this to help illustrate to the reader the truly abominable circumstances that befell the prisoners of the facility. If Orwell were to simply state that the conditions were atrocious it d be easier to distance ourselves from the conditions at hand, by using this simile he has in effect made it nearly impossible for the reader to distance themselves, as the imagery cascades into his thoughts through the simile. Moreover, as they grab onto the prisoner and forcibly hold onto him to prevent any potential escape attempt, Orwell likens the situation to, Men handling a fish which is still alive and may jump back into the water. Orwell does this with the intention of painting the image of a small slippery man being handled by men who can t get a grip upon him due to the rain and his stature. Furthermore, when the prisoner is crying out Ram, Ram, Ram! Orwell says it s akin to the, Tolling of the bell. which s basically to say it was the sound of death, as funeral homes toll the bell during a funeral service; ultimately, orwell uses these similes as a way to paint a picture of what s going on in the reader s head. It brings a darker undertone to the story and helps reinforce what Orwell sees as the dark, sadistic nature of capital punishment. Moreover, Orwell uses contrasting ideas to further indulge the reader plunging deeper into the abyss of gloom that Orwell is attempting to get the reader to stare into. Orwell illustrates this rather soundly when the dog is brought into the equation, It came bounding among us with a loud volley of barks, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Villa San Miguel, the residents had recently dug a well, increasing their access to water. As Finnegan states, Clean water was suddenly plentiful and relatively cheap households paid the water cooperative between two and five dollars a month to cover the costs of running the pump and maintaining the system. [4]. Through the foundation of a new, inexpensive water source, this well provided water to 210 families. The expenses are covered by the townspeople, whom collectively can fund cheaper water sources compared with public access. Although this drastically decreases the number of people without water access, this is not a sustainable water source and will soon run out, excentrifying pollution and halting access. As for people without public access nor locally funded water sources struggle to survive with minimal water and the diseases acquired by pollutants. Symptoms And Treatment Of Eisenmenger Syndrome Eisenmenger Syndrome is a congenital heart defect that is associated with long term elevated blood flow through the pulmonary vasculature, which tends to cause pulmonary hypertension and increasing pulmonary vascular resistance (D Alto, 2014). Moreover, this is a heart defect that causes a hole to develop between two chambers of the heart(D Alto, 2014). The hole causes bloodto circulate abnormally in the heart and lungs. Increased blood flow returns to your lungs instead of going to the rest of your body (D Alto, 2014.) People with Eisenmenger s syndrome commonly present with chronic cyanosis and progressive exercise intolerance. People with congenital heart diseases that have significant untreated left to right shunt lesions are at an increasing risk of developing pulmonary arterial hypertension (KopeД‡ et al., 2014). Every day the kidney s filter on an average of about 120 to 150 quarts of blood that produces 1 to 2 quarts of urine that has extra fluid and waste. The importance of the kidney is to keep the blood stable so the body can function properly. The fluids that are removed from the body help prevent blood cells and large molecules (proteins) from passing. • 34. Enough Is Enough Alain De Botton When is Enough, Enough? In his chapter Equality, Expectation, and Envy of his book Status Anxiety, Alain de Botton analyzes the social anxieties of people. In his article, Botton explains the possible causes of these dilemmas, and how these social issues affect our generation today. Throughout the chapter, Botton discusses peoples longing to be better, the impact of equality on the world, and the realistic results of high expectations and hopes. Although modern society seems to have had a tremendous improvement of resources over many generations, people fear that enough is not enough. Society strives for more and better things, even when they already have more and better things. Botton explains that we decide our wants and set our limits by comparing ourselves to our reference groups (Botton 25) A reference group is an assemblage of people in similar conditions as our own. We suddenly become hateful and envious when someone that we correspond and relate to is more dominant and successful than us in whatever way. This insightful quote, written by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, relates to the story of The Lord of the Flies greatly. A person s true color shines through when put in a place of freedom. The story, by William Golding, is about a group of boys stranded on an island during the war. They fight to survive and their morals change a lot in the process; both physically and mentally. The ways their appearances change was parallel to the ways their behaviors change, including their filth and metaphorical filth, their painted faces and sense of community, and their ways of dress compared to their rebellious actions. The way the filth grew on the boys was parallel to the way their behaviors increased in filth . As time went on, the filth slowly built up on their skin and in their hair They were slowly covered in grease and dirt. Their behaviors grew in a similar manner; the boys soon grew to make poor decisions and act very aggressively. The newly found filth and behavior was accepted among the group as their time on the island increased. Their filth was a normal part of their lives and everyone was okay with it. Hitler being very optimistic though he could and all he had to do was to kick in the door down and the whole rotten structure of Stalin s regime would come falling down on him and his regime. Although Operation Barbarossawas considered a complete failure, in many respects the operation was a complete success. The Germans had the upper hand took the Soviets by surprise. The Wehrmacht or the German Army was able to advance through a big portion of the Soviet Unionin just a few weeks, were able to capture and wipeout millions of Soviet troops, and take control of a... Each had its own particular key significance but since of the sheer size of Russia, it was an awful thought to assault every city at once, yet that is exactly what they did. This separation of troops had the German lines two far spread out and the Russian Red Army was able to smash through the German lines and surrounded the city of Stalingrad. This left the once compelling German sixth army was caught inside the city. It was simply an issue of time before the noose would begin to tighten around the worn down and tired Germans. Besides; the Russian winter was something the Germans were not arranged for. Most of the Wehrmacht soldiers were wearing garments made for medium climate weather, which was nothing during this unusually cold winter. A lot of their number succumbed to the cold. At the point when the winter finished, things improved, the defrost that originated from the softening snow muddied almost every street making it amazingly troublesome for Nazi tanks, trucks and even men to travel. The rate of advancement was slowed down due to the mud. Thirdly, the eastern front was just not the Red Army versus the Wehrmacht, there were numerous fanatic groups as well. These groups used guerrilla warfare to attack German convoys and troops while they were passing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. Conflict Between Romeo And Juliet Essay The conflict between the Capulet and The Montague families grows stronger every day as well the push for supremacy. Romeos intrusion into a Capulet s party transformed Tybalt s condition into an uncontrolled state which led to a fight between his nemeses Romeo and Mercutio. The dispute between these 3 young adults is described as humorous but quite solemn by Shakespeare. The emotions that each character portrays at the beginning sequence are quite joyful and members of both houses speak with sarcastic tones and many jokes are passed along to one another. As the scene continues these emotions and events take a turn for the worst and the Motivations for the house members are now clear, one will claim revenge while the other will protect his... During his final minutes, which were filled with agonizing pain, he expresses his thoughts and feelings on the Capulet and Montague Houses saying A plague o both your houses! as well as speaking ill of Romeo in which he states Why the devil came you between us? I was hurt under your arm . These words alone had a major impact on all bystanders by averring in a metaphorical and hostile tone that the houses of Capulet and Montague should be rid of their feud or more men (like Mercutio) will wind up either dead, hurt or betrayed by one of their own. The passing away of Mercutio also dampens the previous joyful mood of Tybalt, Romeo and the bystanders in which they now relies that Mercutio s words were not of a normal human being but of a spiritual presence/being, which tries to portray the idea of equality and how no one person or in this case family should be higher than any other. If peace could ever be achieved in Verona, the first step would consist of harmony between the Capulet s and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. What Is True Individual Freedom In The Story Of An Hour True individual freedom cannot exist without independence, was a quote Franklin D. Roosevelt once said. What is meant by this statement is you cannot have freedom without independence and vice versa. It s like the peanut butter needed in a jelly sandwich. Mrs Mallard represents this quote in the short story The Story of An Hour by Kate Chopin. One day, Mrs. Mallard, the protagonist received the news that her husband had died in a railroad accident. Once she had heard this, she went to her room and started to sob. She was sad that her husband died, yet she often had not loved him. But then, she realized that she can be free and independent since her husband is dead. Mrs. Mallard, also known as Louise, starts to pray that her life... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She also makes a quick prayer that life might be long because she now wants to experience fun days with her two new traits. Mrs. Mallard wants her freedom and independence to be the longest it possibly can, up until she dies. Mrs. Mallard wants to experience her freedom and independence now since her husband has ... • 53. Switching Power In Oroonoko, By Aphra Behn Once power is given it cannot be taken away that is the way everyone thinks right that if the status is higher up it cannot be knocked down. Wrong. Just as quickly power is given it can be taken away even faster. One narrative I will discuss in this essay is Oroonoko by Aphra Behn. This narrative could be viewed in many different ways. One way it can be seen is as a biography, another is a memoir, but it can also be seen as a travel narrative. In this essay I will touch base on the topics of switching power. By switching power I mean how different individual s power fluctuates within situations in the novel. Aphra Behnand Oroonokoare able to exceed the way they are viewed. Behn is both the narrator and the author and Oroonoko is the prince as well as a slave. Behn is able to be identified as not only powerful, but also as the sideline or less important. All the while Oronooko is the prince and also a slave. Both an example Behn used to portray an exchange of power. The slave narrative Oroonoko by Aphra Behn shows how power is switched in different ways. Behn and Oroonoko s power fluctuates making the narrative interesting and Aphra Behn is the daughter of a lieutenant Governor. That alone gives her a sense of power and within the text she points out her house being beautiful. She states As soon as I came into the country, the best house in it was presented me, called St. Johns Hill. While she tells her story we find out that her father was killed on their way to ...
