Fixed vs Floating Interest Rate
Subject:
Fixed versus floating exchange rates
Introduction
The exchange rate regime
The exchange rate regime is the way a country manages its currency in respect to foreign currencies
and the foreign exchange market. Each country has its exchange rate policy which determines the
form of a government influence on the currency exchange rate.
There are three main type of the exchange rate regime: a floating exchange rate, where the market
dictates the movements of the exchange rate, and the fixed exchange rate, which ties the currency
to another currency, a pegged float, where the central bank keeps the rate from deviating too far
from a target band or value, divides into 2 subtypes: o Crawling bands: ... Show more content on

Inability to shock adjustments
When the fixed exchange rate is used there is no automatic mechanism of economy adjustments in
case of crisis. Then the government have to use its reserves in order to protect its currency. If the
crisis is profound the reserves can be insufficient to support the currency and maintain the balance.
It can lead to depression or deflation. In some cases devaluation of the currency would be necessary.
Speculation probability
When there is a problem with balance of payments the speculator can expect the necessity of
exchange rate adjustment. In case of growing deficit they can worsen the situation by selling the
currency and thus even enlarge the deficit.
The floating exchange rate
A floating exchange rate or fluctuating exchange rate is a type of exchange rate regime wherein a
currency s value is allowed to fluctuate according to the foreign exchange market. The exchange
rate is determined by the relationship between demand and supply. The phenomenon of lowering a
floating exchange rate the currency is defined as depreciation and the growth rate as an
appreciation. A currency that uses a floating exchange rate is known as a floating currency. Floating
exchange rates automatically adjust what can dampen the impact of shocks and foreign business
cycles.
Advantages of a free floating exchange rates
Automatic correction
The exchange rate is free to change until it reaches equilibrium and thus automatically adjusts the

Entering The Class, English Comp
Entering the class, english comp. one, I had many fears as to what the class would be like. I had
no idea what to expect as a senior in highschool. During the past english classes I had, we wrote
papers, just not a different one every day. Going into english comp. one, I figured it would be the
same method in english just like the past classes I had. On the very first day in the class, I quickly
found out that I would have to buckle down a little more than I have been in the past. I knew then,
from what Mrs. Garth had told us, that I was going to have many weaknesses while writingmy
papers, but I would also have many strengths from what I had learned in the past about writing.
In August, our first day in the college class, Mrs. Garth talked with the class about what this
semester was going to be like. She spoke to us as college students and not little children. She told
us that Comp. was all about writing. As a class, we knew there would be more writing than we
were use to, but the very first paperthat Mrs. Garth told us to write was unlike any other paper I
had ever wrote on my own. We were told to write about our favorite foods, our not so favorite
foods, or a tragedy that has happened to us in our life. Of course, I wrote about the tragedy, my
paper was written on the note of my grandmother passing away. I used very descriptive details in
my writing about what the days were like for me and how I felt after she was gone. While writing
the paper, I thought to myself

Most Popular Symphonic Orchestra Music In The World
Pre Concert Research Composed by Bohemian composer AntonГn Leopold DvoЕ™ГЎk (1841
1904) in 1893, Symphony No. 9 in E Minor, Op. 95: From the New World is one of the most
popular symphonic orchestra music in the world. Including Symphony No. 9, many of his musical
works as a composer were created in the romantic period. This musicconsist of four movements and
the total duration time of the music is about forty minutes. Each movement has different
characteristic, but I will focus on the first movement, which is known as Adagio Allegro molto, in
this research. Herbert von Karajan conducted the orchestraI posted on EDpuzzle. In general, music
instruments which an orchestra use for this music are two flutes (2nd doubling piccolo), two oboes
and English horn, two clarinets, two bassoons, four horns, two trumpets, three trombones, tuba,
timpani, triangle, cymbals, and strings. In the early stage of the movement, loud minor sounds of
string and woodwind instruments created feelings of magnificence and anxiety at the same time. In
the midway of the movement, the orchestra played the combination or alternate of minor and some
gentle major melodies. Therefore, the mood of this music frequently changes: powerful and
impressive minor sounds and warm major sound.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Huntington Religion
The argument Huntington is giving is that there will not be near as many fights over politics and
economic values but more of culture and religious values. Throughout the article he talks a lot
about what he believes will happen but one thing that we can be sure is he believes that there
will be war over culture. As people define their identity in ethnic and religious terms, they are
likely to see an us versus them relation existing between themselves and people of different
ethnicity or religion. This quote from the article shows us that he does believe people will fight
because they see it as it is their culture against everyone else s. It is hard to talk things out with
people who believe the complete different things you believe.... Show more content on

Each one of the claims will go onto support the overall issue that culture will cause the clash of
civilizations. A great support Huntington uses is that no matter what we think of cultures each one
is different in many ways. If its religion, language, or different historical backgrounds these will
cause conflict to arise. With each civilization being different it can be hard to get along with other
people because of how different their views might be. Another issue that arises is that not all, but
many civilizations are influenced by the west. This is where the idea of westernization comes into
play. Each community is trying to improve and be bigger and better themselves, they are trying to
be better than their neighbors. If one civilization improves the surrounding groups will want to be
the same. This means they will compete to be the same or even better than the civilization that
already made it. This can lead to conflict and death between civilizations. Another reason is that
when conflicts arise between civilizations it is a lot harder to resolve than a political or economical
one. Like stated before it is very difficult to change someone s beliefs, that means there is very little
wiggle room for negotiation. The final example that Huntington writes about is that the economic
regionalism is increasing. This means that more cultures and civilization are trading between
themselves, but

Media And Its Impact On The Political Movement Essay
The norm of journalism is to present information or news to the general public via mass media.
Thus, it plays an important part in everyday life. Notwithstanding, media have a vigorous relation
with politics especially among the democratic societies (Fernandez Quijada 2013). Moreover, the
media is also perceived as the fourth estate due to the fact that it able to influence and affects the
perceptions of the general public towards the political movement (Kemp 2013). However, in
comparison to the past, nowadays, the modernisation of technology, the change of social patterns
and political conditions somewhat change how the media works (Gerth Siegert 2012). In their
article stated that media companies are predominantly private owned companies, thus, the media
are more to market orientation. Therefore, the media are not necessarily providing vital information
to the general public (Gerth Siegert 2012). Henceforth, the media commonly utilise the practise of
framing to provide information on political matter to the general public (Hanggli 2012). Framing
denotes how the role of media influences its audiences in interpreting and contemplating on issues
provided (Kemp 2013). Therefore, the purpose of this essay is to analyse how the media presents
the overall political contents in newspaperfrom the New ZealandHerald dated April 23rd and how
framing in the political contents influences the general public. The advancement and modernisation

Introgenic government
Topic: Response and Social Policy paper on Iatrogenic Government The response to drug use in
America and in some countries around the world seems to have an interesting history. As the
author Daniel Patrick Moynihan describes the unintended consequences society faces when
government does not deal effectively with issues of drugs in society. He provided several
references that shows the historical and present connections to government interrelations and how
many of these decisions have some form of negative impact and at times causes social
breakdown. His historical reference to drug uses, medicinal properties as well as technology role
in our present age does paint a vivid picture of how government decisions can affect us. Since...

Thus as the author begins to address the issues related to drugs his reference about the
government s approach ring truth The truth in either event is that we were mostly asserting
what we did not know and would need to learn (pg. 353). The author s reference to technology is
relevant but I will address the issue of technology later on as I respond to his summary. The
history of drug use represents lessons that were long been seen but obviously overlooked by
doctors as well as pharmaceutical companies. The earlier efforts by government to regulate drug
use or alcohol consumption began with some regulations on Jamaican rum. Since distilled liquor
was used in social events, the government approaches in regulating the trafficking of the distilled
liquor was by levying heavy fines on the general tariff bill. The cost of importing Jamaican rum
was costlier than distilled liquor here in America. Again, at the time, the government was mostly
dealing with the abolition of slavery and again the issues around alcohol consumption were
minimally dealt with. Distilled spirits in earlier America was part of bringing Americans together
during times of unity. It was a time to earn easy money and have an all around good time (pg.
354). People enjoyed alcohol in the morning for breakfast as well as a celebratory thing. The
government knew that drinking alcohol or distilled liquor caused some medical issues but again, the

Never Go Back Stereotypes
Jack Reacher: Never Go Back (2016) has all the staples of a clichГ© action film. Car chases with
gunfire, check. Villains killing in the name of profit, check. Witty one liners before epic scenes,
check. It has the plot sequence of a cookie cutter action film and like so many other action
movies, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back is clearly gender biased. Jack Reacher, the main
protagonist, is an ex military loner played by Tom Cruise. Suddenly, Army Major Susan Turner
(of course, the lead man s love interest) is arrested for treason. Reacher comes to the rescue,
uncovers a conspiracy with a military contractor, and saves Army Major Susan Turner. Even on
the surface, it is a movie that has overtones of sexism, a message that reads: even a highly
successful woman requires a man. Delve deeper, action movies for generations have ingrained
restrictive roles for women to society. In 2016, only 27 percent of the dialogue came from women
in the top ten highest grossing movies (Syfret 1). Yet, speaking less often in... Show more content on

history, flaws, and personality of a character. The opening scene begins with police surrounding a

turns out, the police were kidnapping illegal aliens and selling them. In the background, the
audience can see Hispanic women covered in blankets fleeing the interior of the gas station. As
federal agents surrounded the building rounding up the corrupt policemen, Jack Reacher remarks,

The Degradation Of Arid Areas

distributed into three different subgoups, such as arid, semi arid and dry sub humid areas. In these
zones the average annual precipitation and evapotranspiration. Additionaly, arid areas occupy 41%
of the land on Earth and are home for more than 2 billion people. Moreover, zones of the same type
exist on all continents in the world except Antarctica. Forty percent of population of Africa, South
America and Asia live in arid areas; consequently arid zones dependent on the climatic conditions

of different techniques for providing fresh water to particular continent, specifically Australia. As a

Africa repeatedly. In the hot season the rivers and lakes dry up, and on the continent there is a
shortage of water. As water sources Australians use some large rivers and lakes, perennial summer

Man s Search For Meaning By Victor Frankl
Author Victor E. Frankl wrote a book called Man s Search for Meaning. He had always
fantasized about being a doctor from a young age. He lived in Vienna, and studied medicine,
psychology and logotherapy which is the healing through meaning. In 1942 his family was
arrested and taken to Theresienstadt in Bohemia. His family had died in the camp except his
sister; she was the only one to survive besides him. He began to write a script while in the camps
he was in (he moved to 3 different camps during the holocaust). It was called, The Doctor and The
Soul. He wrote it on pieces of paper he found in the camps. In 1945 his camp was set free and he
finished his manuscript. When he got out, he became the director of the Vienna Neurological
Policlinic.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When he is explaining his experience he discusses how he tried to understand the minds of the
people suffering around him. In the book he describes his admittance into the camp, the
everyday camp schedule and his release from the camp. When he is talking about his
involvement in the camp he noticed many people experienced shock. As a part of this he noticed
most people believed that the gassing would be stopped or delayed right before their execution.
There was always a tiny hope fluctuation around in the camps that they would live to see
freedom. Once people started to lose optimism that they would survive, suicides were common
and majority of the prisoners lacked enthusiasm and energy which created emotional emptiness.
He thought that people had the ability to governor and choose their piety and mental stability.
Frankl said that people struggled with not knowing when the torment and suffering would end.
He thought that people who couldn t foresee themselves getting out lost control of their mental
stability. When freedom does eventually arrive for those who had survived they had a hard time
accepting it because they never thought it would happen. He states that some prisoners weren t
even happy about being released. Once they were released the former prisoners had to relearn
how to experience things that didn t revolve around suffering. Once the holocaust is over and
everyone has been released the book goes on to describe the techniques to help people that are still
mentally ill from the horrifying experience. He states that the only way to help them find their
meaning for life is Logotherapy. He thinks you can discover it in 3 ways which are to perform a
deed, experience something and display an attitude toward suffering. A

Canon Scripture And Canon Of Scripture
Canon of Scripture When we talk about Scripture, we have to discuss the source of our revelation.
In fact, without an understanding and personal standpoint/beliefs on the canon of Scripture, one is
not able to build a solid foundation in other matters regarding Scripture, including the authority of
Scripture, the inerrancy, the clarity, the necessity, and the sufficiency. Often the canon of Scripture
is a prevalent topic in the Christian faith among believers as there is a debate which books of the
Holy Bible are considered to be part of the canon. However, although there are other books that have
been added (including the Deutro Chronical Books in the Roman Catholic church), there are in fact
only 66 books in the canon of Scripture. There are 39 Old Testament books and 27 New Testament
books that are included in the canon of Scripture. While some churches (including the Roman
Catholic Church) believe that the church should determine what books are in the New Testament
canon, God is responsible for the canon of Scripture. The Old Testament canon includes the
Pentateuch Books (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy), the Historical Books
(Joshua, Judges, Ruth, 1 Samuel, 2 Samuel, 1 Kings, 2 Kings, 1 Chronicles, 2 Chronicles, Ezra,
Nehemiah, and Ester), the Poetical Books (Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Song of

The Effect of Visual Field Position and Type of Stimuli on...
Abstract
An experiment was conducted to test the effect of lateralization and congruency on reaction time to
name colors. This was done using a computer program provided by The University of Mississippi.
This effect is called the stroop effect. Results showed that it was neither lateralization nor
congruency had a significant effect on reaction time, but the interaction of these two variables that
created a significant change in the time needed to recognize colors. It is believed that this is due to
the different hemispheric functions of the brain. Studies that are similar to this in nature help to
better understand how the brain functions and it capabilities.

The time to name ink color will vary with both visual field position and type of stimuli. Time to

ink color of incongruent should increase as the stimuli gets color to the right visual field.

The Dialogue On The Two Great World Systems
Galileo s book The Dialogue on the Two Great World Systems is a 1632 book written by Galileo
in Italian in which he compares the Copernican system to the Ptolemaic system. In this book,
Galileo baldly (some said at the time recklessly) advocated the heliocentric / Copernican world
view, contrasting it to the prevailing geocentric / Ptolomeic model. In order to obtain permission to
publish, Galileo made a promise to religious authorities (including his supporter Pope Urban VIII)
he would present heliocentrismas a hypothetical. The reason Galileo made the promise is because
his views contradict passages of the Bible which refer to the earth as stationary and the sun orbiting.
After the publication of the book, the Roman Inquisition found

Hyperbole In Downsiders
Some humans can t accept difference. Most humans are locked up in a world where everyone has
to be just like them. The novel Downsiders by Neal Shusterman is an example of this. The novel
has the theme that when people separate into groups and cultures, they have a hard time
understanding the opposite and tend to judge. But those who accept, benefit greatly. The Author
used an extravagant amount of literary devices that have to do with the theme of accepting
difference. The hyperbole A frenzied group of crazed topsiders, (page 47) is an example. It s a
great example of the theme because it shows the opinion and viewpoint the downsiders have of the
topsiders. Through reading the quote you can get a sense that the downsiders want nothing to do
with the topsiders and that they think the topsiders run around pointless and don t get anywhere.
The quote also has some connotation in it, with the way it says frenzied. It makes you... Show more

A big part of the hero s journey that is present in the book is when the hero is encouraged by the

The Champ was actually trying to fix the problem the theme states and bring together the two
worlds by sending Talon up to the topside for medicine. This advice benefits him greatly and
gives him a glance of the other world, which by the end of the book, he comes to accept and
enjoy. Another variation of this is when the champ gives knowledge to Lindsay. For example,

Lindsay to find out the history of the Downside and how they came to well being in the place.
This was a very important event to the plot and for Lindsay s

The Failure Of Reconstruction Of Texas
The Failure of Reconstruction in Texas There are many Texas myths that endured about
carpetbaggers during the failed Reconstruction era. Carpetbaggers was generally used to
describe Northerners who moved to the south after the Civil War especially who joined state
Republicans formed in 1867 pg. 212. They were rumored to be allegedly corrupt and dishonest
adventurous who s property could fit in a carpet bag (a soft suitcase made of carpet) who seized
political power . In this essay, I will analyze how the myth/legend came about, why the myth/legend
is important to Texashistory and what implications is has for the history and memory of Texas.
First, how did the myth/legend of failures of reconstruction came about? I would suppose the
myth came about from Native Texans during the failed Reconstruction who felt that the
Northerners or as they were referred to as carpet baggers where ruining the state. This myth was
unfounded because only a small amount of judges were Northerners and in the Twelfth
Legislature 12 out of 142 came from Northern states and a very few participated in politics at the
local level. Those carpetbaggers that were in politics often didn t fit the stereotype that was given
to most northerners. Most carpetbaggers came before Republicans took power so they couldn t

Theme Of Figurative Language In To Kill A Mockingbird
A. Juxtaposition A literary technique in which two or more ideas, places, characters and their
actions are placed side by side in a narrative or a poem for the purpose of developing comparisons
and contrasts. Ex. O, she doth teach the torches to burn bright! It seems she hangs upon the cheek
of night Like a rich jewel in an Ethiope s ear;
B. Imagery To use figurative language to represent objects, actions, and ideas in such a way that it
appeals to our physical senses. Ex. Brookfield he had liked, almost from the beginning. He
remembered that day of his preliminary interview sunny June, with the air full of flower scents and
the plick plock of cricket on the pitch. Brookfield was playing Barnhurst, and one of the Barnhurst
boys, a chubby little fellow, made a brilliant century. Queer that a thing like that should stay in the
memory so clearly.
C. Motif An object or idea that repeats itself throughout a literary work. Ex. The central idea of
the coexistence of good and evil in Harper Lee s To Kill a Mockingbird is supported by several
motifs. Lee strengthens the atmosphere by a motif of Gothic details i.e. recurrent images of
gloomy and haunted settings, supernatural events, full moon etc. Another motif in the narrative is
the small town life of Maycomb, which depicts goodness and pleasantness in life.
D. Irony A figure of speechin which words are used in such a way that their intended meaning is
different from the actual meaning of the words. Ex. Shakespeare employs this verbal irony in
Julius Caesar, Act I, Scene II: CASSIUS: Tis true this god did shake. Cassius, despite knowing the
mortal flaws of Caesar, calls him this god .
E. Metonymy A figure of speech that replaces the name of a thing with the name of something else
with which it is closely associated. Ex. The given lines are from Shakespeare s Julius Caesar Act I.
Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears. Mark Antony uses ears to say that he wants the
people present there to listen to him attentively. It is a metonymy because the word ears replaces
the concept of attention.
F. Hyperbole A figure of speech that involves exaggeration of ideas for the sake of emphasis. Ex.
He cried all night, and

Selecting a Child Support Attorney in Broward County, FL
In any case that involves children, child support is one of the most important decisions the court
makes. Child support is a payment from one parent to the other that is to provide necessities for
the children. Child support is based upon the incomes of the parties and a number of other factors,
and its purpose is to provide the children with income from both parents, just as they would have if
the parents were still living together. Selecting a child support attorney in Broward County, Florida,

Before issuing an award of alimony or spousal support in Palm Beach, Florida, the courts will
consider many different issues, such as the incomes of the parties, the parties education levels, and
the length of the marriage. Although Florida is a no fault divorce state, meaning that there is no
requirement to prove the wrongdoing of a spouse to receive a divorce decree, certain misbehaviors
are considered throughout the divorce proceedings. One such factor is an affair.
Before issuing an award of alimony or spousal support, the courts must first determine that one
party has a need for such support and that the other party has the ability to pay it. According to
Florida s alimony laws, the court may next consider the adultery of either spouse...in determining
the amount of alimony, if any, to be awarded.
Therefore, simply because one spouse has had an affair does not mean that the other spouse will
automatically receive alimony or spousal support payments. Similarly, adultery is not an
automatic bar to receiving alimony, as it is in other states. The weight given to the affair and its
effects on an alimony award is left to the discretion of each family court judge and will vary
significantly depending on the facts of the case. Some family court judges may weigh affairs more
heavily than others.

makes a speech. After a plea to the god Anubis (embalming), the god Horus introduces the goddess
Ani to Osiris. Ani makes a speech, and then the deceased s heart which was viewed as the seat of
intelligence was weighed against the Feather of Knowledge. The fearsome demon Am mit waited
beneath the scales to devour the soul if the heart proved to be too heavy to enter the afterlife.
The majority of the time, different priests and priestesses acted out the parts of the gods,
demonstrating to the mourners assembled what each deities designation and responsibility
happened to be. The Book prescribes a specific rite to be read at each stage in the play, just as
when a specific chapter was read at each stage in the embalming process. Some mummies have
been found with small scrolls of specific chapters tucked in the layers of linen bandages. The
traveling soul was to read these different verses to ward off evil spirits who might snatch the soul
off the path to the underworld.
The Book itself is written almost like a modern instruction manual, the various hymns and spells
an actual part of a then scientific process. The Book is meant as a kind of insurance policy for the
soul, providing not only comfort to the deceased s soul, but comfort to the grieving family as well.

Social Media And Political Rap
As circumstances of social inequalities are becoming more prominent in the social media and
news sources, the appearance of political rap is also becoming more prevalent. It s very common
to hear rappers rap about their struggles and injustices, not only with present day artists but also
older groups. For example, N.W.A, Tupac Shakur, Public Enemy, and Nas, who were popular in
the late 80 s and throughout the 90 s, were known for their politically charged music and critiques
of the American media. Present day artists such as Kendrick Lamar and Joey Bada$$, keep this
type of music alive and continue to address inequalities. The ultimate goal of this type of music is
to bring attention to the actions and policies of the government as well... Show more content on

If rap music appears to be excessively violent when compared to country western or popular
rock, it is because rap stems from a culture that has been seeped in the fight against political,
social, and economic oppression. Despite the theatrics sometimes put on for major label albums,
for many artists, rapping about guns and gang life is a reflection of daily life in racially and
economically stratified inner city ghettos. Blanchard, author of a Stanford article titled The Social
Significance of Rap and Hip Hop Culture argues that violence in rap is not an affective agent that
threatens to harm America s youth; rather, it is the outcry of an already existing problem from
youth whose world views have been shaped by experiencing deep economic inequalities divided
largely along racial lines. However, a study conducted by Brad J. Bushman, PhD and L. Rowell
Huesmann, PhD, show that violent media, including music, have short term and long term effects
on both children and adults where the long term effects were greater for children. These children
showed heightened aggressive behavior and the tendency to respond to stimuli in a violent way.
Growing up in a violent environment will of course have an affect on an individual, but this isn t an
excuse to not look at the effects the explicit music is adding to increase behavioral change and
susceptibility to promiscuous and dangerous behaviors (Senate Committee). We may not see the
initial influence explicit

The Real Estate Mogul s Immigration Platform Essay
his area of the real estate mogul s immigration platform proposes tripling the number of Immigration
and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers from 5,000 to 15,000. Trump also wants ICE officers to
cooperate with local law enforcement on gang raids, specifically targeting undocumented
immigrants who are believed to have gang connections.
But the candidate has been wavering on his overall immigration platform of late. The Trump
campaign spent several days in August adjusting its tone and language on the matter.
There could certainly be a softening, Trump said in an August interview with Fox News s Sean
Hannity, because we re not looking to hurt people.
He then quickly refused to rule out some form of mass deportation, returning to a hardline approach
reminiscent of the primary campaign.
Clinton focuses on detaining and deporting undocumented immigrants who pose a violent threat to
public safety, according to the Democratic nominee s immigration platform.

programs intended to protect undocumented immigrants who meet certain criteria from deportation.

Responsibilities for Offering of Securities Essay
The federal law requires disclosure of material information in order to ensure the quality and
fairness of an offering. I believe this responsibility should be shared responsibility between all
parties including the investment bankers, the securities lawyers, and most importantly the
managers and the directors of the issuing company have the duty to ensure the quality and fairness
of an offering. Investment banker s have the duty to advise their clients on high level issues of
financial organization. They manage the issuance of bonds, recommend and execute strategies for

According to the information on the SEC website, all investors, whether large institutions or
private individuals, should have access to certain basic facts about an investment prior to buying it,
and so long as they hold it. The SEC requires public companies to disclose meaningful financial and
other information to the public. This provides a common pool of knowledge for all investors to use
to judge for themselves whether to buy, sell, or hold a particular security. Only through the steady
flow of timely, comprehensive, and accurate information can people make sound investment

Mckinsey And Its Secret Influence On American Business Essay
McKinsey consultants suggest that firms need to change with changing industry conditions and
that often firms needs to choose between protecting what they have built versus letting them go to
make room to focus on new business opportunities (McDonald, Duff (September 10, 2013). The
Firm: The Story of McKinsey and its Secret Influence on American Business. Simon Schuster).
McKinsey s further supports this position with their three horizons model that replaces core
businesses in decline with new growth options (McGrath; Ian MacMillan (March 16, 2009).
Discovery Driven Growth: A Breakthrough Process to Reduce Risk and Seize Opportunity. Harvard
Business Review Press. p. 198). At the product level, we see products transitioning through different
stages of their lifecycle. Products move from introduction to growth and maturity stages, eventually
passing into commoditization and ultimately falling into decline. Each stage of the product life
cycle requires differing strategies to achieve successful product commercialization. Rangan and
Bowman make a distinction in that although products are called commodities, it is the relationship
between the product and the market that should be characterized as commoditization. Changing
market dynamics signal a shift towards commoditization. Customer reluctance to pay for product or
service, pressure on price, low customer loyalty, buyer s perception of little differentiation amongst
suppliers, price as the only selection criteria, are some

What Does Plath s Cut Poem
Almost similar to Edge , Cut is one of Plath s collections that contain bright metaphors of death
things. It conveys the idea of a woman who cut her thumb when setting meal in the kitchen rather
than the onion that she will be used for cooking. In this poem, Plath expressed the idea of an
insurgent in life.
What a thrill
My thumb instead of an onion.
The top quite gone
Except for a sort of a hinge (L. 1 4)
Ironically, in the opening of this poem labels the joyful of cutting the thumb. It indicates the signs
of psychological disorder for the woman who cuts her thumb. As previously stated in Chapter II,
usually in hard times of life, people often lost their self and unconsciously do something
destructively toward other or self. When a thumb is cut, people should cry for it or sad because her
thumb is in pain. However, this woman is pleased when her thumb cut. Her thumb cut until her
upper thumb fairly disappeared but she feels the pleasure for this. In this case, the incident of
cutting thumb seems not an accidental one. It is looked like the woman intentionally cut her thumb.

Satire In Young Goodman Brown
Nathaniel Hawthorne s experience with evil was with his uncle. His uncle was part of the Salem
witch trial, where women were believed to be witches and worshippers of the devil. The trial
involves women burning at stake for the remove sin. Instead of cleansing their sins, they are
making it a lot worse by bloodshed. They noticed what was wrong and decided to stop the trials, but
Nathaniel s uncle did not repent. He believed that what he did was right and should let all women

Cultural Relativism Is Not Ideal
Cultural Relativism is not Ideal
In The Challenge of Cultural Relativism, James Rachel s main argument is that cultural relativism
is not creditable, but the whole theory of what cultural relativists believe, isn t completely
incorrect. Cultural relativism is the theory that beliefs, activities, and most values are based on the
person s culture. In other words, right and wrong is different in each culture. I agree with James
Rachel on his view of cultural relativism because he has very good reasons for objecting the
argument that cultural relativists make. This paper will argue that James Rachel s opinion on
cultural relativism is correct and the assumptions that cultural relativist believe are incorrect.
Cultural Relativists believe in the cultural differences argument. This argument says:
1.Different cultures have different moral codes.
2.Therefore, there is no objective truth in morality. Right and wrong are only matters of opinion and
opinions vary from culture to culture (Rachel 21).
Rachel s considers the cultural differences argument for cultural relativism to be unsound. I agree
with her because it just is not logical for something to not have anything that is objectively true
just because people disagree on it. An example that stands out to me regards murder. If Society A
agreed on murder and society B disagreed on murder than the conclusion is not that there is no
objective truth on the matter. Murder is obviously wrong because if in a particular society

The Adoration Of Saints
The Adoration of Saints
Baroque is important in regards of European philosophical art history, generating identifiable and
stylistic changes in: painting, sculpture and architecture throughout the periods of the late sixteenth
century to the early eighteenth. Dominant particularly in the regions of southern Europe such as:
Italy, Spain, Portugal, Austria and southern Germany. Baroqueis a stylistic movement that often
exaggerated motion to: illustrate drama, tension and grandeur features such as exaggerated lighting,
intense emotions, release from restraint, and even a kind of artistic sensationalism through various

Baroque art did not really depict the life style of the people at that time; the era was rather
intimately integrated along the religious philosophies of the Catholic Counter Reformation:
instituting a program of restoration and a new way of living, in Europe and its colonies. Its
popularity and success was highly encouraged by the Catholic Church and was made as a
responsive movement made by the Council of Trent towards the Protestant Reformation the two
differed: Protestant reformers wanted to reassess doctrines such as justification and sweep away
medieval practices such as the adoration of saints.

Virgin Of Guadalupe Summary
Whether it be on prayer cards or gold chains, the image of the Virgin of Guadalupe has resonance
with the nation of Mexico. Modern Mexican icons, such as the Virgin of Guadalupe, have
foundations in Post Conquest New Spain s plight in forming an identity separate from that of
Spain. In James Cordova s Colonial Rhetorics, a chapter within The Art of Professing in Bourbon
Mexico, Cordova asserts a similar notion. This chapter argues that local emblems, such as the
Virgin of Guadalupe and the crowned nuns, were manipulated to articulate integral portions of New
Spain s identity in the eighteenth century. This paper summarizes this chapter s three subheadings:

The extent of Cordova s debriefing on the intersection of gender with the aforementioned themes is
in relation to the hagiographers preference in imagery of the penitent and discalced nuns over
imagery of the crowned nuns. The reason being that the crowned nuns threatened the Counter
Reformation efforts of orthodoxy and had the power to ... threaten male ecclesiastical power if left
unchecked (Cordova 164). However, what Cordova fails to note in both the popularization of
imagery like the Virgin of Guadalupe and the crowned nuns, is the significance in their depiction as
not only females idols, but chaste female idols. Their chastity is an integral characteristic of their
being and womanhood, which is reflective of the Enlightenment era s emphasis on creating defined
gender roles, pushing beyond the mere difference in genitalia to describe anatomical depth. The
female gender was subsequently subscribed to the importance of their modesty and chastity.
Therefore, the aggrandization of female religious icons is not just symptomatic of the plight of
New Spain to develop a unique and respected identity, but is also in direct relation to the
enforcement of strict gender conformant. These two

Rome And Han Comparison Essay

Group LEQ: Rome and Han Comparison
By the second and third centuries C.E, trade routes were connecting many civilizations across the
land and sea. These routes traded not only goods, but new beliefs and values as well. However,
something malicious also spread through these trade routes: disease. Both the Roman and Han
empires experienced imperial decline due to epidemic diseases spread by trade routes as well as
conflicts with neighboring forces due to clashing beliefs, however the Han Empire faced more
internal problems, whereas the Romans faced unrest from outside of the empire.

China mainly faced internal struggles, while the Romans mainly faced problems from external
sources. One problem was the aristocrats forming factions among each other, with each faction
seeking to gain more power for itself, which weakened the central government. Another problem
was the uneven distribution of land. Many landowners that possessed most of the land, were
powerful figures in the government who shifted the tax burden onto peasants. This angered the
peasants, who started the Yellow Turban Rebellion in 184 C.E. While the rebellion was
unsuccessful in overthrowing the empire, the unhappiness of the peasants would later lead to
many more uprisings. By 220 C.E, the emperor had no real political power and the Han generals
abolished the empire and divided it into three large kingdoms. On the other hand, the Romans
were faced with a massive empire that they struggled to manage. From 235 to 284 C.E, there
were 26 different barrack emperors who controlled Rome. The position was unstable, and many
of them were betrayed and killed. The Roman economy was also going downhill, and they were
also faced with a population decline. These factors also created a lack of resources needed to
protect the empire. China s internal problems were due to the peasants feeling like they were being

Ethiopia, is the true and living God, at least for the black race. One member of the Rastafarian
Repatriation Association it explained this way: We know before that when a king should be
crowned in the land of David s throne, that individual would be Shiloh, the anointed one, the
Messiah, the Christ returned in the personification of Rastafari. He (Ras Tafari) is the Ancient of
Days (The bearded God). The scripture declares that the hair of whose head was like wool (matted
hair), whose feet were like unto burning brass (i.e., black skin). The scripture declares that God
hangs in motionless space surrounded with thick darkness (hence a black man).
Rastafarians also regard Haile Selassie I as God because of Marcus Garvey s prophesy Look to
Africa where a black king shall be crowned, he shall be the redeemer was swiftly followed by the
ascension of Haile Selassie I as Emperor of Ethiopia. The notion of Haile Selassie being the God of

Similarities Between Night And The Breakaway
Elie Wiesel, the author of Night, and Karen Hesse the author of Debts display many similarities
throughout their work. Each author s use of imagery and the tones they convey allow the reader to
understand how each character gets over their conflicts with optimism. In the novel Night by Elie
Wiesel and the short story The Breakaway, by an unknown author the two author s use of imagery
is similar because they both show how the characters overcome their conflicts with hope. An
example of this similarity in Night is when the author states that We breathed in air filled with fire
and smoke, and our eyes shone with hope. . The imagery shows that they had hope in their eyes,
which helps create emotion that the reader feels about the character. An example of this in the short
story is when the author said By the time he got to senior year in high school, his GPA was
hovering in the slam dunk position . The imagery the unknown author uses makes the reader
understand that even though he was hurt and his grades... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example of this difference in Night is when the author said that One more stab to the heart, one
more reason to hate. One less reason to live . This tone conveys a throw in the towel attitude toward
his experience during the Holocaust because he is stating that the more things that hurt him, the
more things give him less hope to live. An example of perseverance in the short story is when the
author states that So, while she was home on break, they studied together, and they talked, and they
worked, and Justin felt better than he ever had before . This tone expresses the author s feelings
towards getting his grades up because he worked hard with a persevering attitude to achieve his

Virginia Mason Hospital
What were reasons for implementing lean management at Virginia Mason Hospital? Lean
thinking begins with driving out waste so that all work adds value and serves the customer s
needs. Identifying value added and non value added steps in every process is the beginning of the
journey toward lean operations. In order for lean principles to take root, leaders must first work to
create an organizational culture that is receptive to lean thinking. The commitment to lean must
start at the very top of the organization, and all staff should be involved in helping to redesign
processes to improve flow and reduce waste. Although health care differs in many ways from
manufacturing, there are also surprising similarities: Whether building a car or... Show more content

The time saved increases the time a physician can spend with a patient. Most of the cost of
medical care involves clogs in the flow of information paper forms, lab results, phone messages,
often leading to irritated patients. Two details on this list bear further explanation. The No
Layoff Policy is critical to the success of implementing lean management. People will more fully
commit and engage in improvement work if they are not worried about improving themselves
out of a job. Attrition, typically steady in health care, will enable most organizations to reassign
staff to other necessary work. A culture shift is important here as well: Staff, especially in health
care, do not typically view themselves as working for the organization, but for their individual
department and/or care team. In lean thinking, the patient/customer drives all processes, and staff
/providers must come to understand that they work for the patient. This means they may be
reassigned depending on the needs of the patients. Secondly, the defect alert system is a
fundamental element of the TPS, known as stopping the line. Every worker in the Toyota plant
has the power and the obligation to stop the assembly line when a defect or error is identified or
even suspected. Workers pull a cord, a light goes on, music plays as a signal for supervisors to
come and help, and the

Homo Sacer Sovereign Power And Bare Life
In this modern era, the value of life is what makes sacrifice meaningful. In Agamben s Homo
Sacer: Sovereign Power and Bare Life he discusses the concept of homo sacer, which is a body
that can be killed but not sacrificed. He also talks about the state of exception and how the
sovereign exception (as zone of in distinction between nature and right) is the presupposition of
the juridical reference in the form of its suspension. (Agamben 21) This concept can be related
to the issues involving drones and drone warfare. In Gregoire Chamayou s A Theory of the
Drones, he focuses on how drones are transforming the laws of wars, and radicalizing certain
aspects in warfare, that is bringing in a new era with immoral dimensions. This could alter the
political arena for the countries that already use them. (13) The danger therefore, does not lie with
the drone operators, as they no longer face the danger of being exposed to the enemy, this has also
immunized them to the possible trauma of reflecting upon their own violence because they are
viewing everything though a screen a thousand miles away. The real danger lies with society as a
whole with the politics of waging warremoved from the purview of citizens, this affects societies
continued ability to critique or reject violence.
Concepts of Agamben
Agamben discusses several topic such as the homo sacer, sovereignty, and the states of exception,
according to Agamben, sovereignty is the law s threshold with the nonlegal, a

The Importance Of Creating A Comfortable Context
1)I take responsibility for creating a comfortable context in which to communicate. I arrange for
the client s comfort. Within the role play session of providing drop in counselling to a client I
took responsibility of the setting. Prior to when the client arrived to the session, I as the counsellor
took the time to prepare the space which was set to be intimate, personal, comforting, inviting, and
non distracting. To create this type of space I provided large chairs for the clients comfort with a
proper amount of distance between the chairs to be intimate and personal without infringing on a
personal boundary. The chairs were purposely situated to be facing each other for easier
communication, and sight to watch for emotions,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I showed my client I was genuinely interested and authentic by explaining to her my role at the
resource center and how I was there to sit and speak with her regarding herself. I was genuine by
not using authority over the client and creating a power struggle however instead was attentive and
responsive to the needs that benefited the client. Furthermore I am an empathic person and
presented that to the client throughout the session. Empathy was presented by understanding the
client s thoughts, feelings and meaning of their own experiences and perspectives. It was further
shown with genuineness by checking I fully understood the client s experiences and perspectives
and was not wrong in that understanding, showing counselor wanted to be able to have the shared
understanding and empathetic approach with the client. By doing this and showing the client that I
wanted to perceive the world from their point of view I showed with empathy that her view had
value and that I was accepting of her.
3)I focus my attention by filtering out my own noise (physiological and psychological) and tuning
in to the client. Counsellor focused attention onto client by filtering out noise which is a disruption
or distraction that could have interfered with the transmission and interpretation of information
during the communication processes. Physiological noise that had to be filtered out as a counsellor
during this session was a

Fixed vs Floating Interest Rate Subject: Fixed versus floating exchange rates Introduction The exchange rate regime The exchange rate regime is the way a country manages its currency in respect to foreign currencies and the foreign exchange market. Each country has its exchange rate policy which determines the form of a government influence on the currency exchange rate. There are three main type of the exchange rate regime: a floating exchange rate, where the market dictates the movements of the exchange rate, and the fixed exchange rate, which ties the currency to another currency, a pegged float, where the central bank keeps the rate from deviating too far from a target band or value, divides into 2 subtypes: o Crawling bands: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Inability to shock adjustments When the fixed exchange rate is used there is no automatic mechanism of economy adjustments in case of crisis. Then the government have to use its reserves in order to protect its currency. If the crisis is profound the reserves can be insufficient to support the currency and maintain the balance. It can lead to depression or deflation. In some cases devaluation of the currency would be necessary. Speculation probability When there is a problem with balance of payments the speculator can expect the necessity of exchange rate adjustment. In case of growing deficit they can worsen the situation by selling the currency and thus even enlarge the deficit. The floating exchange rate A floating exchange rate or fluctuating exchange rate is a type of exchange rate regime wherein a currency s value is allowed to fluctuate according to the foreign exchange market. The exchange rate is determined by the relationship between demand and supply. The phenomenon of lowering a floating exchange rate the currency is defined as depreciation and the growth rate as an appreciation. A currency that uses a floating exchange rate is known as a floating currency. Floating exchange rates automatically adjust what can dampen the impact of shocks and foreign business cycles. Advantages of a free floating exchange rates Automatic correction The exchange rate is free to change until it reaches equilibrium and thus automatically adjusts the balance

  • 4. Entering The Class, English Comp Entering the class, english comp. one, I had many fears as to what the class would be like. I had no idea what to expect as a senior in highschool. During the past english classes I had, we wrote papers, just not a different one every day. Going into english comp. one, I figured it would be the same method in english just like the past classes I had. On the very first day in the class, I quickly found out that I would have to buckle down a little more than I have been in the past. I knew then, from what Mrs. Garth had told us, that I was going to have many weaknesses while writingmy papers, but I would also have many strengths from what I had learned in the past about writing. In August, our first day in the college class, Mrs. Garth talked with the class about what this semester was going to be like. She spoke to us as college students and not little children. She told us that Comp. was all about writing. As a class, we knew there would be more writing than we were use to, but the very first paperthat Mrs. Garth told us to write was unlike any other paper I had ever wrote on my own. We were told to write about our favorite foods, our not so favorite foods, or a tragedy that has happened to us in our life. Of course, I wrote about the tragedy, my paper was written on the note of my grandmother passing away. I used very descriptive details in my writing about what the days were like for me and how I felt after she was gone. While writing the paper, I thought to myself ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Most Popular Symphonic Orchestra Music In The World Pre Concert Research Composed by Bohemian composer AntonГn Leopold DvoЕ™ГЎk (1841 1904) in 1893, Symphony No. 9 in E Minor, Op. 95: From the New World is one of the most popular symphonic orchestra music in the world. Including Symphony No. 9, many of his musical works as a composer were created in the romantic period. In general, music instruments which an orchestra use for this music are two flutes (2nd doubling piccolo), two oboes and English horn, two clarinets, two bassoons, four horns, two trumpets, three trombones, tuba, timpani, triangle, cymbals, and strings. In the early stage of the movement, loud minor sounds of string and woodwind instruments created feelings of magnificence and anxiety at the same time. In the midway of the movement, the orchestra played the combination or alternate of minor and some gentle major melodies. • 6. Huntington Religion The argument Huntington is giving is that there will not be near as many fights over politics and economic values but more of culture and religious values. Throughout the article he talks a lot about what he believes will happen but one thing that we can be sure is he believes that there will be war over culture. As people define their identity in ethnic and religious terms, they are likely to see an us versus them relation existing between themselves and people of different ethnicity or religion. This quote from the article shows us that he does believe people will fight because they see it as it is their culture against everyone else s. It is hard to talk things out with people who believe the complete different things you believe.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Each one of the claims will go onto support the overall issue that culture will cause the clash of civilizations. A great support Huntington uses is that no matter what we think of cultures each one is different in many ways. If its religion, language, or different historical backgrounds these will cause conflict to arise. With each civilization being different it can be hard to get along with other people because of how different their views might be. Another issue that arises is that not all, but many civilizations are influenced by the west. This is where the idea of westernization comes into play. Each community is trying to improve and be bigger and better themselves, they are trying to be better than their neighbors. If one civilization improves the surrounding groups will want to be the same. This means they will compete to be the same or even better than the civilization that already made it. This can lead to conflict and death between civilizations. Another reason is that when conflicts arise between civilizations it is a lot harder to resolve than a political or economical one. Like stated before it is very difficult to change someone s beliefs, that means there is very little wiggle room for negotiation. The final example that Huntington writes about is that the economic regionalism is increasing. This means that more cultures and civilization are trading between themselves, but ... • 7. Media And Its Impact On The Political Movement Essay The norm of journalism is to present information or news to the general public via mass media. Thus, it plays an important part in everyday life. Notwithstanding, media have a vigorous relation with politics especially among the democratic societies (Fernandez Quijada 2013). Moreover, the media is also perceived as the fourth estate due to the fact that it able to influence and affects the perceptions of the general public towards the political movement (Kemp 2013). However, in comparison to the past, nowadays, the modernisation of technology, the change of social patterns and political conditions somewhat change how the media works (Gerth Siegert 2012). In their article stated that media companies are predominantly private owned companies, thus, the media are more to market orientation. Therefore, the media are not necessarily providing vital information to the general public (Gerth Siegert 2012). Henceforth, the media commonly utilise the practise of framing to provide information on political matter to the general public (Hanggli 2012). Framing denotes how the role of media influences its audiences in interpreting and contemplating on issues provided (Kemp 2013). Therefore, the purpose of this essay is to analyse how the media presents the overall political contents in newspaperfrom the New ZealandHerald dated April 23rd and how framing in the political contents influences the general public. Introgenic government Topic: Response and Social Policy paper on Iatrogenic Government The response to drug use in America and in some countries around the world seems to have an interesting history. As the author Daniel Patrick Moynihan describes the unintended consequences society faces when government does not deal effectively with issues of drugs in society. He provided several references that shows the historical and present connections to government interrelations and how many of these decisions have some form of negative impact and at times causes social breakdown. His historical reference to drug uses, medicinal properties as well as technology role in our present age does paint a vivid picture of how government decisions can affect us. Since... The author s reference to technology is relevant but I will address the issue of technology later on as I respond to his summary. The history of drug use represents lessons that were long been seen but obviously overlooked by doctors as well as pharmaceutical companies. The earlier efforts by government to regulate drug use or alcohol consumption began with some regulations on Jamaican rum. Since distilled liquor was used in social events, the government approaches in regulating the trafficking of the distilled liquor was by levying heavy fines on the general tariff bill. The cost of importing Jamaican rum was costlier than distilled liquor here in America. Again, at the time, the government was mostly dealing with the abolition of slavery and again the issues around alcohol consumption were minimally dealt with. Distilled spirits in earlier America was part of bringing Americans together during times of unity. It was a time to earn easy money and have an all around good time (pg. 354). People enjoyed alcohol in the morning for breakfast as well as a celebratory thing. The government knew that drinking alcohol or distilled liquor caused some medical issues but again, the ... Witty one liners before epic scenes, check. It has the plot sequence of a cookie cutter action film and like so many other action movies, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back is clearly gender biased. Jack Reacher, the main protagonist, is an ex military loner played by Tom Cruise. Suddenly, Army Major Susan Turner (of course, the lead man s love interest) is arrested for treason. Reacher comes to the rescue, uncovers a conspiracy with a military contractor, and saves Army Major Susan Turner. Even on the surface, it is a movie that has overtones of sexism, a message that reads: even a highly successful woman requires a man. He lived in Vienna, and studied medicine, psychology and logotherapy which is the healing through meaning. In 1942 his family was arrested and taken to Theresienstadt in Bohemia. His family had died in the camp except his sister; she was the only one to survive besides him. He began to write a script while in the camps he was in (he moved to 3 different camps during the holocaust). It was called, The Doctor and The Soul. He wrote it on pieces of paper he found in the camps. In 1945 his camp was set free and he finished his manuscript. When he got out, he became the director of the Vienna Neurological Policlinic.... In the book he describes his admittance into the camp, the everyday camp schedule and his release from the camp. When he is talking about his involvement in the camp he noticed many people experienced shock. As a part of this he noticed most people believed that the gassing would be stopped or delayed right before their execution. There was always a tiny hope fluctuation around in the camps that they would live to see freedom. Once people started to lose optimism that they would survive, suicides were common and majority of the prisoners lacked enthusiasm and energy which created emotional emptiness. He thought that people had the ability to governor and choose their piety and mental stability. Frankl said that people struggled with not knowing when the torment and suffering would end. He thought that people who couldn t foresee themselves getting out lost control of their mental stability. When freedom does eventually arrive for those who had survived they had a hard time accepting it because they never thought it would happen. He states that some prisoners weren t even happy about being released. Once they were released the former prisoners had to relearn how to experience things that didn t revolve around suffering. Once the holocaust is over and everyone has been released the book goes on to describe the techniques to help people that are still mentally ill from the horrifying experience. He states that the only way to help them find their meaning for life is Logotherapy. He thinks you can discover it in 3 ways which are to perform a deed, experience something and display an attitude toward suffering. A ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Canon Scripture And Canon Of Scripture Canon of Scripture When we talk about Scripture, we have to discuss the source of our revelation. In fact, without an understanding and personal standpoint/beliefs on the canon of Scripture, one is not able to build a solid foundation in other matters regarding Scripture, including the authority of Scripture, the inerrancy, the clarity, the necessity, and the sufficiency. Often the canon of Scripture is a prevalent topic in the Christian faith among believers as there is a debate which books of the Holy Bible are considered to be part of the canon. However, although there are other books that have been added (including the Deutro Chronical Books in the Roman Catholic church), there are in fact only 66 books in the canon of Scripture. There are 39 Old Testament books and 27 New Testament books that are included in the canon of Scripture. While some churches (including the Roman Catholic Church) believe that the church should determine what books are in the New Testament canon, God is responsible for the canon of Scripture. The Old Testament canon includes the Pentateuch Books (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy), the Historical Books (Joshua, Judges, Ruth, 1 Samuel, 2 Samuel, 1 Kings, 2 Kings, 1 Chronicles, 2 Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah, and Ester), the Poetical Books (Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Song of Solomon), and the Prophetical Books ( Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations, Ezekiel, Daniel, Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, ... In this book, Galileo baldly (some said at the time recklessly) advocated the heliocentric / Copernican world view, contrasting it to the prevailing geocentric / Ptolomeic model. • 16. Hyperbole In Downsiders Some humans can t accept difference. Most humans are locked up in a world where everyone has to be just like them. The novel Downsiders by Neal Shusterman is an example of this. The novel has the theme that when people separate into groups and cultures, they have a hard time understanding the opposite and tend to judge. But those who accept, benefit greatly. The Author used an extravagant amount of literary devices that have to do with the theme of accepting difference. The hyperbole A frenzied group of crazed topsiders, (page 47) is an example. It s a great example of the theme because it shows the opinion and viewpoint the downsiders have of the topsiders. Through reading the quote you can get a sense that the downsiders want nothing to do with the topsiders and that they think the topsiders run around pointless and don t get anywhere. They were rumored to be allegedly corrupt and dishonest adventurous who s property could fit in a carpet bag (a soft suitcase made of carpet) who seized political power . In this essay, I will analyze how the myth/legend came about, why the myth/legend is important to Texashistory and what implications is has for the history and memory of Texas. First, how did the myth/legend of failures of reconstruction came about? I would suppose the myth came about from Native Texans during the failed Reconstruction who felt that the Northerners or as they were referred to as carpet baggers where ruining the state. This myth was unfounded because only a small amount of judges were Northerners and in the Twelfth Legislature 12 out of 142 came from Northern states and a very few participated in politics at the local level. Those carpetbaggers that were in politics often didn t fit the stereotype that was given to most northerners. • 18. Theme Of Figurative Language In To Kill A Mockingbird A. Juxtaposition A literary technique in which two or more ideas, places, characters and their actions are placed side by side in a narrative or a poem for the purpose of developing comparisons and contrasts. Ex. O, she doth teach the torches to burn bright! It seems she hangs upon the cheek of night Like a rich jewel in an Ethiope s ear; B. Imagery To use figurative language to represent objects, actions, and ideas in such a way that it appeals to our physical senses. Ex. Brookfield he had liked, almost from the beginning. He remembered that day of his preliminary interview sunny June, with the air full of flower scents and the plick plock of cricket on the pitch. Brookfield was playing Barnhurst, and one of the Barnhurst boys, a chubby little fellow, made a brilliant century. Queer that a thing like that should stay in the memory so clearly. C. Motif An object or idea that repeats itself throughout a literary work. Ex. The central idea of the coexistence of good and evil in Harper Lee s To Kill a Mockingbird is supported by several motifs. Lee strengthens the atmosphere by a motif of Gothic details i.e. recurrent images of gloomy and haunted settings, supernatural events, full moon etc. Another motif in the narrative is the small town life of Maycomb, which depicts goodness and pleasantness in life. D. Irony A figure of speechin which words are used in such a way that their intended meaning is different from the actual meaning of the words. Ex. Shakespeare employs this verbal irony in Julius Caesar, Act I, Scene II: CASSIUS: Tis true this god did shake. Cassius, despite knowing the mortal flaws of Caesar, calls him this god . E. Metonymy A figure of speech that replaces the name of a thing with the name of something else with which it is closely associated. Ex. The given lines are from Shakespeare s Julius Caesar Act I. Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears. Mark Antony uses ears to say that he wants the people present there to listen to him attentively. It is a metonymy because the word ears replaces the concept of attention. F. Hyperbole A figure of speech that involves exaggeration of ideas for the sake of emphasis. Ex. He cried all night, and ... One such factor is an affair. Before issuing an award of alimony or spousal support, the courts must first determine that one party has a need for such support and that the other party has the ability to pay it. Social Media And Political Rap As circumstances of social inequalities are becoming more prominent in the social media and news sources, the appearance of political rap is also becoming more prevalent. It s very common to hear rappers rap about their struggles and injustices, not only with present day artists but also older groups. For example, N.W.A, Tupac Shakur, Public Enemy, and Nas, who were popular in the late 80 s and throughout the 90 s, were known for their politically charged music and critiques of the American media. If rap music appears to be excessively violent when compared to country western or popular rock, it is because rap stems from a culture that has been seeped in the fight against political, social, and economic oppression. Despite the theatrics sometimes put on for major label albums, for many artists, rapping about guns and gang life is a reflection of daily life in racially and economically stratified inner city ghettos. Blanchard, author of a Stanford article titled The Social Significance of Rap and Hip Hop Culture argues that violence in rap is not an affective agent that threatens to harm America s youth; rather, it is the outcry of an already existing problem from youth whose world views have been shaped by experiencing deep economic inequalities divided largely along racial lines. However, a study conducted by Brad J. Bushman, PhD and L. Rowell Huesmann, PhD, show that violent media, including music, have short term and long term effects on both children and adults where the long term effects were greater for children. These children showed heightened aggressive behavior and the tendency to respond to stimuli in a violent way. Growing up in a violent environment will of course have an affect on an individual, but this isn t an excuse to not look at the effects the explicit music is adding to increase behavioral change and susceptibility to promiscuous and dangerous behaviors (Senate Committee). Cultural relativism is the theory that beliefs, activities, and most values are based on the person s culture. In other words, right and wrong is different in each culture. • 40. Virginia Mason Hospital What were reasons for implementing lean management at Virginia Mason Hospital? Lean thinking begins with driving out waste so that all work adds value and serves the customer s needs. Identifying value added and non value added steps in every process is the beginning of the journey toward lean operations. In order for lean principles to take root, leaders must first work to create an organizational culture that is receptive to lean thinking. The commitment to lean must start at the very top of the organization, and all staff should be involved in helping to redesign processes to improve flow and reduce waste. Although health care differs in many ways from manufacturing, there are also surprising similarities: Whether building a car or... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The time saved increases the time a physician can spend with a patient. Most of the cost of medical care involves clogs in the flow of information paper forms, lab results, phone messages, often leading to irritated patients. Two details on this list bear further explanation. The No Layoff Policy is critical to the success of implementing lean management. People will more fully commit and engage in improvement work if they are not worried about improving themselves out of a job. Attrition, typically steady in health care, will enable most organizations to reassign staff to other necessary work. A culture shift is important here as well: Staff, especially in health care, do not typically view themselves as working for the organization, but for their individual department and/or care team. In lean thinking, the patient/customer drives all processes, and staff /providers must come to understand that they work for the patient. This means they may be reassigned depending on the needs of the patients. Secondly, the defect alert system is a fundamental element of the TPS, known as stopping the line. Every worker in the Toyota plant has the power and the obligation to stop the assembly line when a defect or error is identified or even suspected. Workers pull a cord, a light goes on, music plays as a signal for supervisors to come and help, and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Homo Sacer Sovereign Power And Bare Life In this modern era, the value of life is what makes sacrifice meaningful. In Agamben s Homo Sacer: Sovereign Power and Bare Life he discusses the concept of homo sacer, which is a body that can be killed but not sacrificed. He also talks about the state of exception and how the sovereign exception (as zone of in distinction between nature and right) is the presupposition of the juridical reference in the form of its suspension. (Agamben 21) This concept can be related to the issues involving drones and drone warfare. In Gregoire Chamayou s A Theory of the Drones, he focuses on how drones are transforming the laws of wars, and radicalizing certain aspects in warfare, that is bringing in a new era with immoral dimensions. This could alter the political arena for the countries that already use them. (13) The danger therefore, does not lie with the drone operators, as they no longer face the danger of being exposed to the enemy, this has also immunized them to the possible trauma of reflecting upon their own violence because they are viewing everything though a screen a thousand miles away. The real danger lies with society as a whole with the politics of waging warremoved from the purview of citizens, this affects societies continued ability to critique or reject violence. Concepts of Agamben Agamben discusses several topic such as the homo sacer, sovereignty, and the states of exception, according to Agamben, sovereignty is the law s threshold with the nonlegal, a ... • 42. The Importance Of Creating A Comfortable Context 1)I take responsibility for creating a comfortable context in which to communicate. I arrange for the client s comfort. Within the role play session of providing drop in counselling to a client I took responsibility of the setting. Prior to when the client arrived to the session, I as the counsellor took the time to prepare the space which was set to be intimate, personal, comforting, inviting, and non distracting. To create this type of space I provided large chairs for the clients comfort with a proper amount of distance between the chairs to be intimate and personal without infringing on a personal boundary. The chairs were purposely situated to be facing each other for easier communication, and sight to watch for emotions,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I showed my client I was genuinely interested and authentic by explaining to her my role at the resource center and how I was there to sit and speak with her regarding herself. I was genuine by not using authority over the client and creating a power struggle however instead was attentive and responsive to the needs that benefited the client. Furthermore I am an empathic person and presented that to the client throughout the session. Empathy was presented by understanding the client s thoughts, feelings and meaning of their own experiences and perspectives. It was further shown with genuineness by checking I fully understood the client s experiences and perspectives and was not wrong in that understanding, showing counselor wanted to be able to have the shared understanding and empathetic approach with the client. By doing this and showing the client that I wanted to perceive the world from their point of view I showed with empathy that her view had value and that I was accepting of her. 3)I focus my attention by filtering out my own noise (physiological and psychological) and tuning in to the client. Counsellor focused attention onto client by filtering out noise which is a disruption or distraction that could have interfered with the transmission and interpretation of information during the communication processes. Physiological noise that had to be filtered out as a counsellor during this session was a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
