Economic And Cultural Differences In The British Colonies
The British colonies in America were all settled for the reason of bringing power to the mother
country, but as the years progressed the new states were formed and molded by economical and
cultural differences. Every area settled by the colonists had something completely different in
it, as an example some would have mountain or large areas where fish would conglomerate. Each
region having its own specialties allowed for different economies to arise, economies that would
rely on each other in order to operate efficiently and effectively. The cultures in the different
regions varied immensely, as the settlers for each region all had different beliefs and
backgrounds. The question is thus asked, is the colonies separation into different regions caused
by the economics that took place in each region or the culture that grew because of influences
from religion or social backgrounds. The New England colonies were everything North West of
Connecticut, which meant that the climate was relatively cold all year round compared to the
other regions. The soil in New England was poor compared to the soils of the other regions, but
some food was still able to be planted such as rye, pumpkins, and beans. The settlers of this
region were forced to find a more sustainable resource, such as fish. The New England states were
some of the largest producers of fish and ocean products such as whale oil. These colonies didn t
have many natural resources besides fish that they exported, so

Anthropomorphism And Early Learning About Animals Essay
(Un)Real Animals: Anthropomorphism and Early Learning about Animals 1.What are the most
important points of this article? The purpose of this paper is to explain anthropomorphism and
its effect on children s early learning about animals. The term anthropomorphism gives life like
or human characteristics to those who are not human such as an animal or an object. The author
s writing will inform those who are concerned about this current dilemma and their effects on the
children s early learning about animals as well as provide us with our next steps to ensure
academic success for our youth. The proper development of these early young minds is the main
purpose of this research and article. Anthropomorphism plays a crucial part on the child s
developing mind. Between the ages of three and five years old, children become exposed to
anthromorphic depictions when beginning to learn about real life animals. This skewed view of
the natural world and how children are taught to interpret it may be why children become confused
when faced with real animals because of the human qualities are not really present. Throughout the
article the author discuses different cross cultural and experimental studies to show the different
ways that children responded to various representations of animals. For example, a child that has a
pet at home may be more likely to tell the difference between anthromorphism and real life animals
as opposed to a child who does not have a pet. Other studies have

Was Germany s War On France And Russia To Aid...
After the assassination of Archduke Francis Ferdinand, Germany pledged their full support to
Austria Hungary in a potential war. When Serbia failed to agree to Austria Hungary s ultimatum,
Austria decided to declare war on Serbia. Russia, an ally of Serbia, mobilized their troops in
response to Austria declaring war, and received support from their other ally France. Consequently,
Germany declared war on France and Russia to aid Austria Hungary. To avoid a two front war with
France in the west and Russia in the east, Germany formulated the Schlieffen Plan. Created by
General Alfred von Schlieffen, the Schlieffen Plan involved invading Belgiumand quickly defeating
France. Germany knew that it would take Russia six weeks to mobilize their troops,

Advantages Of Ion Implantation
1.1Ion Implantation
Ion implantation is a materials engineering operation where ions of a material are accelerated in
an electric field and impacted into a solid. Ion implantation can also be referred to as a technique
used to deposit precise quantities of n type and p type dopants or impurities into a semiconductor at
a low temperature. Ion implantation alters the physical, chemical, electronic properties of a
material by forcibly impacting different types of ions into the material.
In ion implantation, dopant atoms are volatilized, ionized, accelerated, separated by the mass to
charge ratios and directed at a target. The atoms enter the crystal lattice of the material and collide
with the existing atoms. These atoms lose energy and finally ... Show more content on

Laser Surface Treatment is a technique which is used to enhance the property and repair damaged
parts of work pieces. The process involves hardening, cladding and alloying with high processing
speed and slight thermal effect on the fundamental substrate due to the accurate control of the heat
input and addition of material.
2.2Principle of Laser Surface Treatment
Laser surface treatment works based on the principle of interaction between a beam of coherent
light which has a high power density and the desired surface within a specified atmosphere. Light
is generated in a resonator and directed at the surface of the sample. During the movement of the
laser beam over the work piece, a track pattern is created at the surface. Based on the desired
process and the geometry of the work piece, the system can be automated or designed to be
controlled by robots.

Impact Of Labor Force In The 21st Century
There is a great change going on in employment trend and labor force in the U.S. in 21st century
because of aging, diversity immigrants and few other factors and it s a dramatic change, from
1950 to 2050. This massive demographic change has an impact on the number of people working
or people looking for work. In the beginning of 21st centurythe demand for laborforce has increased
which is one of the main source for growth and economic progress. Growth rate in population
and labor force has changed the trend in employment today compare to 1950. Today more older
people are working, its more diversified and more women are involved at workplace. There are
going to be significant changes in coming years compare to past 50 years. For example, labor
growth rate will be less than what we had in past 50 years. As per the Mitra Toossi s article A
century of change: the U.S. labor force, 1950 2015 , The high growth rate of civilian labor force
in the past 50 years will be replaced by much lower growth rates in the next 50 years . The main
reason to this slowdown in growth of the labor force is high tech innovation which is reducing the
demand of traditional labor force.
Another demographic change in the employment trend is the change in gender structure. We have
seen more number of women at workplace compare past 50 years and their number at work place
are increasing very fast. This change came because of equal rights to women at workplace plus
they are more involved with their

How Did Dorothy Draper Contribute To Society
In my paper I m going to write about Dorothy Draper. In my paper I will be talking about how
Dorothy Draper contribution to the profession, and how she outlines the role that shaped the
profession. You will learn about her childhood, and she got into the designing world. I m going
to tell you about the people she worked for as she was growing up, and the different designers
who inspired her or she has worked with. In 1889 Dorothy Draper was born to a wealthy and
privileged family, during one of the most exclusive communities in the American history.
Dorothy Draper was the first to professionalize the interior design and in 1923 established the
first interior design company in the united states. During this time, it was unheard of, and also at
this time it was considered daring for woman to go in the business. Carleton Varney wrote in his
biography of his mentor. The Draper touch, was her way of revolutionized from breaking away
from the historical term period room styles that dominated her work predecessors and
contemporaries. She was an artist that was modern, one of the first decorators of her breed, and
she was a pioneer. Dorothy Draper has invented the modern Baroque this style is a particular

Capital Gain History
History of capital gains
Because of its importance to wealthier and politically powerful people, capital gain tax has been
extremely controversial. These gains have been taxed from the beginning of the income tax, but the
rates and other provisions have changed frequently contributing to a baffling history. Ironically
there has been only two times when capital gain income was taxed same as ordinary income, once
during 1913 1921 and later under TRA 1986. Rest of the time there was significant differential tax
on capital gain than ordinary income.
Between 1913 1968

The location of the camp is Emerald Bay just east of Arrow Point. The climate is warm and
sometimes cloudy. Animals that live on this beautiful island are foxes, bison, deer, and feral
cats. Catalina is only a 1 2 hour boat trip depending on where you live and the ride back is
usually faster. San Pedro to Emerald bay is about 24 miles. The perimeter of the island is 54 miles.
The mountain Sliver Peak located near the camp is about 1800 feet.

Emerald bay is an amazing place to snorkel. While snorkeling you will see kelp forests, Garibaldi,
Sheephead, Blacksmith, and other small fish. Before snorkeling you can wear a wetsuit. Wearing a

Ice Cubes
Data Analysis Does the type of liquid of an ice cube affect how long it takes to melt? The
hypothesis was: if an ice cube made of water is allowed to melt at room temperature; then it will
melt slower than other ice cubes made from other types of liquids. The liquid the ice cubes were
made of is the independent variable. The control variable for the experiment was the ice cube
made of plain water. The experimental group are the ice cubes made from other liquids. The time it
took takes the ice cubes to melt is the dependent variable. The three control variables are the
temperatureof the freezer, the amount of liquidto make the ice cubes, and the ice cube tray. After 10

There were three trials for each liquid. Liquid 1 had an average melting speed of 56 minutes and
43 seconds. Liquid two did not freeze, because the freezer was not cold enough, the freezer had
to be 1.85 degrees Celsius to freeze. Liquid 2 has an average melting speed of 0. Liquid 3 had an
average melting speed of 49 minutes and 3 seconds. The type of liquid used to make ice cubes
did affect its melting time. The liquids melt at different times. Liquid 3 melted faster than the
other liquids. Liquid 2 did not freeze, therefore it could not melt in the first place. Liquid 1 was
7 minutes and 43 seconds behind in the average melting time. The independent variable was the
liquid used to make the ice cube. The dependent variable was the time the ice cube took to melt.
Liquid 2 had not even a single flake to melt. The outcome of the experiment makes sense, because
soda has more sodium than water. Soda has 33 milligrams and water has 15 milligrams of sodium.
The amount of sodium in the soda, which is less than in the water, is an extraneous variable. One
of the extraneous variables of the experiment are the temperature of the table. Another extraneous
variables are: the amount of light created from the sun, there were windows open during the
experiment. There are more extraneous variables such as the way the ice cube melted, or froze. If
the ice had more time to freeze, or less, the outcome of the experiment would have been

The Stereotypes Of Stereotypes And Stereotypes
Breaking Stereotypes
The labeling or stereotyping of different races often define how they are supposed to act, think, and
conduct themselves within society. Stereotyping can have an extremely negative effect on
individuals in a particular ethnic group that have a real potential to become something better than
what their labels define them as. Stereotypes such as all Native Americans are uneducated and lazy,
or all Caucasian people are racists, are assumptions that can cause hatred between races, or
stereotype threat; causing individuals in different ethnic groups to think less of themselves and thus
limit their ability to reach their full potential. Some individuals in minority groups often find
themselves having to prove that such stereotypes do not apply to them and work resiliently to
change preconceived ideas about them. The term stereotype refers to generalizations or frequently
generalizations about members of a specific group. Stereotypes can be associated with
characteristics like race, sex, social status or religion. These generalizations can be positive, but in
most cases they are negative and extremely hard to change. For example in the essay Champion of
the world by Maya Angelou the author describes how almost the entire African American
population of the United States, placed their hopes on Joe Luis to retain title of world champion. A
match against a white contender seemed the perfect opportunity to break the stereotypes and
inequalities associated with

Colombian children died during this time due to problems with malnutrition.

The Effects Of Long Term Meditation Practices On The...
Abstract Substantial research has been done on the positive effects of long term meditation
practices on the promotion of cognitive functions. However, the effects of brief meditation practices
have not been as thoroughly researched. Accordingly, this study will further investigate the effects
of short term mindfulness based training (MT) on the multiple traits of attentional processing. I
hypothesize that brief MT can have similar results to that of long term practices, indicating that
meta cognition can be improved in a short period of time. This experimental study will compare a
MT group, a relaxation group, and a control group all made up of inexperienced participants on
their performance of higher order processing of attentional tasks. We predict that the MT group will
do better than the other groups on all tests administered, and that they will improve significantly
compared to their previous performance.
Key words: Meditation, Mindfulness, Meta cognition, Attention
Introduction
Many recent studies have validated that people who have practiced mindfulness based training and
/or meditation express greater cognitive flexibility. Mindfulness is a psychological state
characterized by full attention to a present experience without elaboration of thought or emotional
reactivity while focusing on the sensations of one s breath and body and maintaining relaxation.
Thus, MT heightens meta cognitive processing to an extent (Austin, 1998 as found in Zeidan,

Essay On Remodeling To Home
RENOVATING IDEAS TO INCREASE HOUSE VALUE
Whenever individuals do a house renovation, the majority of them expect to bring a good looking
value from the reselling of the house, while this may not often be the case, some elements have to
be thought about prior to one does a remodel. The most important variable has to be comparing the
cost of the remodelling compared to that of the value, this comes in handy when making a decision
no matter if the investment would be worth it. When we are performing remodeling to our homes,
our main element is always to increase the value, and below are some ideas on how the value
might be boosted.

Animal Testing and Researching
Animal testing is supported by some, but opposed to others. The growing number of animals used
in research differs among the different countries. The fruit fly and nematode are the most used
animal in testing. However, the most common mammals used in animal research are mice and rats.
Shaved albino rabbits and guinea pigs suffer severe testing for skin irritancy and eye irritancy.
Though the usage of non human primates are outlawed in some countries, the U.S. still finds the
need to use them. The U.S. government uses tax dollars for testing pesticides and flourine products

be tested for various results. Since mice share ninety nine percent of their genes with humans,
believe it or not, they are considered the ?prime model of inherited human disease?. In addition to
genetics, rats and mice are used to understand how different organisms interact with each other in
the same environment. (Wikipedia) They are used for the study of human cancers and testing of

Though rats may seem like the most popular lab animal, the most animals used in testing are
actually invertebrates, especially the fruit fly, Drosophila melanogaster, and the nematode,
Caeharbabditis elegans. These, like rats, are very cost efficient and can be studied in a large
number. Their short life cycle also makes it convenient for genetic studies. Many invertebrate
species are not protected under animal research legislation, so the number of invertebrates used in
research is unknown. (Wikipedia)

The s Theory Of Scapegoating
Currently, Black Lives Matter victims are struggling with the loss of children, relatives, and close
friends due to an illogical order in society. The guilty are set free, while the innocent are accused of
putting themselves in unfriendly situations, therefore making them a byproduct of their demise. In
order to completely understand how innocent people are being killed and murderers are getting
away free, I uncovered the truth behind scapegoating. This unfair societal issue is a problem,
nonetheless, a careless standard of pledging guilt on the ones who are rightfully innocent. In my
essay I argue, by utilizing Burke s theory of scapegoating in the Tamir Rice shooting, I understand
how law and society constructs who receives guilt and who... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

A scapegoat must have two qualities. First, it must be anecdotal; meaning it must be representative
of certain unwanted evils. Burke describes these unwanted evils as guilt from historical and cultural
identifications. In my understanding, historical and cultural identifications can be seen in modern
day situations such as Tamir s. These identifications are the negative associations which African
American stereotypes have created throughout time. An article written by Kenneth W. Goings in
February 1990, states the idea of these stereotypes, saying, These objects produced from the late
17th century to the present, have been almost universally derogatory, with exaggerated racial
features that helped prove that African Americans were different and inferior. (Goings, Kenneth.)
Historical and culturally, these stereotypes say things such as African Americans look suspicious
based of apparel, facial expressions, or physical intimidation therefore making it reasonable for
officers to become suspicious. These stereotypes and identification issues make the scapegoats
guilt easily understood by society and law courts that decide cases such as Tamir Rice s. Burke s
second point states that a scapegoat needs to be powerful because it must be at least equal to the
burden of guilt, so that the sacrifice destroys a vessel strong enough to hold the transgression. Burke
notes that the scapegoat must be worthy legalistically,

Due to its highly conjugated structure, hematoporphyrin absorbs most strongly at around 640 nm, a
wavelength that penetrates deeply into living tissue. Newer photodynamic therapy agents,
including others based around porphyrin, absorb between 650 850 nm, thus allowing for deeper
penetration of activating radiation into tissues.4 According to a study by Wormald et al.,5 another

porphyrin based compound, known commercially as verteporfin, also shows promise in the
treatment of macular degeneration by selectively halting the growth of harmful blood vessels under
the retina. The photochemical and optical properties of porphyrin compounds have also made them
a target of research in the field of molecular electronics. One goal of this research has been to
produce improved optoelectronic devices such as photovoltaic cells, OLEDs and OFETs by
imitating the early steps of photosynthesis. 3 The high thermal and photostabilities of porphyrin
compounds also contribute to their appeal in the field of material science. Supramolecular
structures of porphyrin compounds have also been studied for their electrical properties, and have
been used to build nanoarchitectures and molecular assemblies ranging in length from several
nanometers to the millimeter scale.1 This particular project focuses on two metalloporphyrins:

Baby Powder Controversy
Business Journal
Over the past few years there has been controversy over Johnson Johnson s Baby Powder. Their
Baby Powder contains a mineral called talc, which we now know causes ovarian cancer. Why were
we never informed by Johnson Johnson about this risk?
Jacqueline Fox was 59 when she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. After being diagnosed, she
saw a commercial that showed a lawyer, Beasley Allen, from an Alabama law firm, suggesting a
connection between Johnson Johnson s Baby Powder and ovarian cancer. Turns out, Fox had
been using Baby Powder since she was a teen. Her son Marvin Salter stated, We both were a bit
skeptical at first, it has to be safe. It s put on babies. It s been around forever. Why haven t we heard
about any ill effects? . (Berfield 56).
Fox decided to sue Johnson Johnson, but things did not work out so well in the beginning. Imerys ...

Ness explained that the science wasn t matching up because the studies Johnson Johnson showed
had not correctly measure the frequency and duration of talc use. But all of the studies that
measured the duration and frequency use properly, showed a significant trend toward more
exposure causing more cancer. In addition to that, Ness included a statement saying Not being able
to prove how talc powder could contribute to cancer doesn t relieve a company of the responsibility
to warn women of the association. (Berfield 59).
At the end of 2006, Luzenac, who was another talc distributing company, stopped defending the
safety of talc because there were too many studies proving them wrong. After coming to this
decision, they placed a warning on the safety data sheet included with the 2,000 pound bags of
talc they deliver to Johnson Johnson. The warning says: Perineal use of the powder is a possible

Environmental Impact Assessment(Eia)
TITLE Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), it s introduction, purpose, methods of EIA, EIA
conducted in India, Environmental Impact Statement(EIS).
INTRODUCTION : DEFINITION :
An environmental impact assessment (EIA) is an assessment of the possible positive or negative
impact that a proposed project may have on the environment, together consisting of the
environmental, social and economic aspects.
PURPOSE :
The purpose of the assessment is to ensure that decision makers consider the ensuing environmental
impacts when deciding whether to proceed with a project. The International Association for Impact
Assessment (IAIA) defines an environmental impact assessment as the process of identifying,
predicting, evaluating and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some of the methods are GMP RAM, INOVA etc.[8] Fuzzy Arithmetic EIA methods need specific
parameters and variables to be measured to estimate values of impact indicators. However many of
the environment impact properties cannot be measured on a scale e.g. landscape quality, lifestyle
quality, social acceptance etc. and moreover these indicators are very subjective. Thus to assess the
impacts we may need to take the help of information from similar EIAs, expert criteria, sensitivity of
affected population etc. To treat this information, which is generally inaccurate, systematically,
fuzzy arithmetic and approximate reasoning methods can be utilised. This is called as a fuzzy logic
approach.[9]
At the end of the project, an EIA should be followed by an audit. An EIA audit evaluates the
performance of an EIA by comparing actual impacts to those that were predicted. The main
objective of these audits is to make future EIAs more valid and effective. The two main
considerations are:
scientific to check the accuracy of predictions and explain errors. management to assess the success
of mitigation in reducing impacts.
Some people believe that audits be performed as a rigorous scientific testing of the null hypotheses.
While some believe in a simpler approach where you

Empiricism And Existentialism
The simplest definition of the word philosophy is the study of knowledge. The three texts of
Empiricism by unknown, Existentialism by unknown, What is Philosophy? by unknown, and
Existentialism as Philosophy by Fernando Molina all incorporate the history and subtopics that tie
in with Philosophy. Philosophywas originally used by the Greeks which was defined as the
pursuit of knowledge for its own sake, and comprised ALL areas of speculative thought, including
the arts, sciences and religion (What is Philosophy). Since Philosophy is such a large and
extensive topic to cover, it is easier to understand when it is broken off into individual sections. The
two sections that will be focused on are empiricism and existentialism. Empiricism derives from
the Greek word for experience and from the Roman word of empiric , which is a physician
whose skill comes from experience. Empiricism encompasses the idea that all knowledge is
gained from self experience. In the text Empiricism the author wrote It emphasizes the role of
experience and evidence, especially sensory perception, in the formation of ideas, and argues that
the only knowledge humans can have is a posteriori (i.e. based on experience). This idea supports
why babies learn so much when they grow up; they are starting to learn and experience new things
for themselves. In a modern day context, it also explains why humans learn so much from their
mistakes, even if one person saw another person fail, they

Western Films In The Good, The Bad And The Ugly
In order to make an iconic western film, directors and filmmakers need to have three very
important characteristics in their films. These traits are having a cowboy who roams the western
frontier, a conflict between multiple groups, and a shootout to end the film. The Good, The Bad
and The Ugly by Sergio Leone is considered one of the greatest westernfilms of all time. Another
Sergio Leone filmA Fistful of Dollars should be considered one of the greats as well due to the
presence of the three major traits of western films.
The first major characteristic of a western film is a nomadic cowboy as the main character that the
audience does not know much about. In The Good, The Bad and The Ugly the main character was

The shootout scene consists of two shooters that partake in standard shootout procedures. This
includes the shooters to stand a few yards away from each other. Each shooter will get one bullet
and try to shoot to kill the other. The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly ends with final shootout
between all three of the important characters. This film provides a little twist to the standard
shootout since it has three people facing off against one another. Each of the characters is trying
to get the gold that drove the film up until the final scene. Nevertheless, the scene is still
recognized as a shootout by all who watch the film. In A Fistful of Dollars, The Man With No

after thee Rojos burned the house of the Baxter s and killed everyone in the family and crime
partnership. The shootout scenes in these two films provide a very suspenseful and action filled
climax. Shootouts are very iconic in western movies and have to be included in order to make a true

Essay on Class Struggle and the Communist Manifesto
Class Struggle and the Communist Manifesto The Communist Manifesto is profoundly marked by
the history of class struggle and social inequality throughout history. In fact Marx suggests that
history is in essence merely a timeline of class struggle, unchanging apart from the alteration in
mode of production. The document is the story of the conflict between the Proletariat and the
Bourgeois, the oppressed and the oppressor, the haves and the have nots, etc? However, this is not
a new idea and Marx is really not all that radical. In his Politics, Aristotle wrote, ?Those who have

Stephen Hoch in a study that he conducted on a small Russian village called Petrovskie makes
some insightful inferences about the serf system there. In Russia, as well as Europe in the 17th
century, the serfs were ?managed? in a way that more closely represented exploitation. Very little
was invested in improving the state of the land that they cultivated and instead the emphasis was
placed on compelling the serfs to produce more. Meanwhile the landowner merely reaped the
benefits and rarely reinvested in the venture. This study is relevant because it was taking place at
the same time as the Manifesto was being written.[v] The system led to a series of revolutions
because as Hoch deduced, ?Serf behavior and attitudes were in fact an integrated human response to
the ecological constraints at work in the society and to the inhumane degradation of being reduced
to property.?[vi] Its existence during the Enlightenment is an indicator that social inequality is the
child of economics. Stanislav Ossowski states that class itself is the result of economic criteria
paired with class consciousness and consciousness of common interests.[vii] When men like

Symbolism In The Mermaid Chair, By Sue Monk Kidd
Abstract Island is an emblem of both remoteness and nirvana in both East and West. In the East, to
the Buddha, island is a positive symbol of revitalization in the core of the ocean of Samsara. In
Commonwealth feminist writers such as Anita Desai and Sue Monk Kidd, the island becomes a
metaphor for a woman s quest for freedom and identity. The Mermaid Chairis a vividly imagined
novel about the spirit and the ecstasies of the body; one that illuminates a woman s self
awakening with the brilliant and power that only a writer of Kidd s ability could conjure. An
island is a land mass that is often smaller than a continent. An island is normally surrounded by
water completely. Egret island is a thin place, in the Celtic sense of the phrase, a place where the
visible reality of everyday life and the invisible reality of the sacred interest, where mighty forces
work mysteriously to bring about transformation. The main conflict in The Mermaid Chair by Sue

unambiguous women with no desire to disturb the universe. Jessie stands at the bow of a ferry,

Examples Of Classification Of Business Students
Classification of Business Students
As members of a team studying at State Colleges, students are individuals. As a team, however,
they are a collage of different individuals working together to achieve a common goal. The goal, in
this case, is a business management degree. No matter how common their goal is as a team,
students, as individuals, have a unique path to achieving it.
Some team members have an interactive style. In other words, they have the tendency to be fast
paced, and spontaneous. This is fine and works well with a couple of the dominant styles in the
group as they see eye to eye on the speed of completing tasks. On the other hand, there is a
cautious style with the team that has a slower paced approach to tasks. ... Show more content on

Nonetheless, they must always maintain perspective by seeking to be less emotional and intense
about non critical situations. Taking a stress management course and learning simple breathing

Another style is the predominantly behavioral cautious style, which is also known as the master
minder. The master minder is said to be more guarded and less indirect than most other cautious
styles. The primary goal motivating this type of behavior is to increase opportunities for unique and
significant personal accomplishments. This type of person express themselves more by what he or
she does than what he or she says. Consequently, this person has strong needs to choose their own
goals and to work independently. They incline to be primary idea generators and developers, and
they have little interest in dealing with implementation details. Some of their tendencies are being
focused and self controlled with people and also being focused on the future, especially in
concerning ideas and opportunities. Sometimes they have a tendency to over analyze and possibly
procrastinate when they re under pressure. Although they do take some calculated risk when
making decisions, they also enjoy planning, monitoring, and measuring. However, to improve his or
her educational achievements, a person with this type of behavior needs to work on being less
guarded and more direct when communicating with others. They need to commit

Groundwork of the Metaphysics of Morals by Emmanuel Kant
In his book, Groundwork of the Metaphysic of Morals, Kant explores the issues of human morality,
and attempts to seek out and establish the supreme principle of morality (Kant 60). Despite
acknowledging that human beings will still most likely act morally, whether or not they have a
clear understanding of moral principles, Kant explains that a clearer understanding of moral
principles can allow individuals to fulfill their moral obligations, and keep their motivations pure.
Kant starts off, in the preface, by stating that Ancient Greek philosophy was divided into three
sciences: physics, ethics, and logic (Kant 55). Physics being the study of natural philosophy, and
the world of material objects; ethics, the study of moral philosophy, and on what basis human
beings ought to act; and logic, the study of empirical knowledge, independent of material objects.
These three fields then fall into categories of empirical or non empirical philosophy. In the
Groundwork, Kant decides to focus on pure, non empirical ethics, which he refers to as a
metaphysic of morals (Kant 56). In attempting to develop an a priori concept of morality based on
reason, as opposed to empirical observations, Kant comes to the conclusion that a free will and a
will under moral laws are one and the same (Kant 114). This statement ties together Kant s aim in
the Groundwork, in that the supreme principle of morality is developed through the notion of
freedom, as it, then, provides a basis for morality.

Literary Devices In The Snows Of Mount Kilimanjaro
The story, The Snows of Mount Kilimanjaro, by Ernest Hemingway opens up with a description of
Mount Kilimanjaro. Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa (Downie 1). The
mountain is said to be where God resides, high up on the mountain. Different themes like
relationships and death flood the story. It starts with the main characterHarry, and his wife stranded
on the mountain. Hemmingway utilizes different literary devices to bring out these themes, with
the main character facing his last moments alive. The story is full of powerful literary devices.
However, it mostly portrays symbolism and flashback. Symbolism is the main literary device
that Hemingway uses throughout the story. Animal symbolism is dominant as it is what the
author uses at the beginning of the story. In a short prologue at the beginning, Hemingway talks
of a leopard carcass at the summit of the mountain. He says, Close to the Western summit there is
the dried and frozen carcass of a leopard, (Hemingway 1). The readers may find it difficult to
explain how a leopard found its way up the mountain and what exactly it was doing wandering so
high up at the summit. Hemingway uses the leopard to symbolize power, courage, and uttermost
strength, which are characters Harry had as a young man. He hopes that he will regain these
characters someday. He aspires to go back to his old ways where he was profound and of good
character during his youth, rather than the character he had developed. While both

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), also known as Attention Deficit Disorder
(ADD), is a neurodevelopment,1 psychiatric disorder, which is characterized as impairments of the
growth and development of the Central Nervous System particularly the brain.2 An individual
diagnosed with ADD exhibits issues with attention, hyperactivity, impulsive behavior, or a
combination of all three. 3 Such symptoms are likely observed between ages 6 12 and must persist
for over six months prior to imposed diagnosis.4 According to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual
of Mental Disorders, section 4 (DMV IV), currently 12% of the American pediatric and young adult
populations suffer from one form of ADD.5 Despite ADD prevalence, growing incidence, and being
the most studied and diagnosed psychiatric disorder in the pediatric population several unknowns of
the complex condition remain. In North America, potential ADHD cases are confirmed by the
Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth edition, endorsed by the American
Psychiatric Association as a primary resource. The Manual defines and categorizes ADHD into
three subtypes: Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, predominantly inattentive (ADHD PI),4
and more commonly referred to as Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD). This form of ADHD is
observed in individuals who are easily distracted, continuously daydreaming, severely disorganized,
poor concentration, and considerable difficulty finishing tasks.

The Rise Of The Roman Empire Essay
Constantine was the first Roman Emperor to convert to Christianity. He started his reign in 307
AD. During this time the Roman Empire was still composed mainly of pagans. Although the
population of Christians was on the rise, in the beginning of the fourth century, Christians made up
only 10 percent of the population in the Roman Empire. There were approximately five million
Christians in the Roman Empire meaning that they were still the minority (Waldron). His
conversion was an important turning point not only for Christians but also for the Roman
Empire as a whole. Although most Romans still believed in Greco Roman religions, Constantine
decided to become a Christian because he knew that it would be beneficial for his role as
emperor. His conversion was prompted by his desire to end the tetrarchy structure of the Roman
Empire and to become the sole ruler of the Roman Empire. The story of Constantine s conversion
was told through Eusebius of Caersera. His recount of the story is skewed by his bias. In order to
show a more holistic view of the story I will be comparing his account to the account of another
historian named Andreas AlfoМ€ldi. The comparison will show that Constantine had other motives
for converting to Christianity. Constantine s decision to become a Christian was influenced by
numerous external factors. He emulated the monotheistic nature of Christianity and used it as the
foundation of his reign and used Christianity to advance his political agenda. When

throwing a party for Doc and Henri s ambition is to never finish his boat and to live the life of a

like home. When her husband became a landlord she began to change. First it was a rug, then a

Income Distribution and Economic Growth in LDC s
INTRODUCTION
In recent years, one of the major concerns of economic development is the study of poverty, the
income distribution and growth in the less developed countries (LDC s) or Third World countries.
Economists from all over the world have been doing researches and studies on how to induce a
growth in those underdeveloped countries. However, countries differentiate in historical
backgrounds, cultural believes and natural resources. As a result, the government would implement
different strategies to attain a much fairer distribution of income among the society. The relationship

The major concern of the policies would be the approach to provide human basic needs (HBN)
for each and every one of the people in the country. In nearly all of the LDC s, majority of the
people are living under absolute poverty. This means that they are not able to provide a standard
level of living for themselves. Different policies to improve the income inequality and also procure
an economic growth include land reform, redistribution of saving and investment, education for all,
progressive taxation, public expenditures from tax revenues and birth control.
Some people think that there existed a trade off between growth and equity. They think that
distributing income too equally would undermine incentives and thus lower everyone s income.
They believed that the rich needed special encouragement to save and invest more in order to
cause a growth in the economy. Recent evidence suggests that this conventional wisdom is wrong.
Many economies in Asia Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Republic of Korea, Singapore,
Taiwan (province of China) and Thailand have had both rapid growth and relatively low inequality.

Teachings of Life Through the River Essay
My father was always a man of infinite knowledge for those willing to listen. Unbeknownst to
him, his knowledge extends beyond what he has to teach. For example, when asked how to clean
a fish, he goes through the process in great detail. From where the incision is made to de scaling
the fish, he would always emphasize the care, attention to the smallest detail. With every lesson, the
majority of his teachings show how no matter how long the task, any person will always have

Between the ages of three and five years old, children become exposed to anthromorphic depictions when beginning to learn about real life animals. This skewed view of the natural world and how children are taught to interpret it may be why children become confused when faced with real animals because of the human qualities are not really present. Throughout the article the author discuses different cross cultural and experimental studies to show the different ways that children responded to various representations of animals. Impact Of Labor Force In The 21st Century There is a great change going on in employment trend and labor force in the U.S. in 21st century because of aging, diversity immigrants and few other factors and it s a dramatic change, from 1950 to 2050. This massive demographic change has an impact on the number of people working or people looking for work. In the beginning of 21st centurythe demand for laborforce has increased which is one of the main source for growth and economic progress. Growth rate in population and labor force has changed the trend in employment today compare to 1950. Today more older people are working, its more diversified and more women are involved at workplace. There are going to be significant changes in coming years compare to past 50 years. For example, labor growth rate will be less than what we had in past 50 years. As per the Mitra Toossi s article A century of change: the U.S. labor force, 1950 2015 , The high growth rate of civilian labor force in the past 50 years will be replaced by much lower growth rates in the next 50 years . The main reason to this slowdown in growth of the labor force is high tech innovation which is reducing the demand of traditional labor force. Another demographic change in the employment trend is the change in gender structure. The hypothesis was: if an ice cube made of water is allowed to melt at room temperature; then it will melt slower than other ice cubes made from other types of liquids. • 11. The Stereotypes Of Stereotypes And Stereotypes Breaking Stereotypes The labeling or stereotyping of different races often define how they are supposed to act, think, and conduct themselves within society. Stereotyping can have an extremely negative effect on individuals in a particular ethnic group that have a real potential to become something better than what their labels define them as. Stereotypes such as all Native Americans are uneducated and lazy, or all Caucasian people are racists, are assumptions that can cause hatred between races, or stereotype threat; causing individuals in different ethnic groups to think less of themselves and thus limit their ability to reach their full potential. Some individuals in minority groups often find themselves having to prove that such stereotypes do not apply to them and work resiliently to change preconceived ideas about them. The term stereotype refers to generalizations or frequently generalizations about members of a specific group. Stereotypes can be associated with characteristics like race, sex, social status or religion. These generalizations can be positive, but in most cases they are negative and extremely hard to change. Abstract Substantial research has been done on the positive effects of long term meditation practices on the promotion of cognitive functions. However, the effects of brief meditation practices have not been as thoroughly researched. Accordingly, this study will further investigate the effects of short term mindfulness based training (MT) on the multiple traits of attentional processing. I hypothesize that brief MT can have similar results to that of long term practices, indicating that meta cognition can be improved in a short period of time. This experimental study will compare a MT group, a relaxation group, and a control group all made up of inexperienced participants on their performance of higher order processing of attentional tasks. We predict that the MT group will do better than the other groups on all tests administered, and that they will improve significantly compared to their previous performance. Key words: Meditation, Mindfulness, Meta cognition, Attention Introduction Many recent studies have validated that people who have practiced mindfulness based training and /or meditation express greater cognitive flexibility. Mindfulness is a psychological state characterized by full attention to a present experience without elaboration of thought or emotional reactivity while focusing on the sensations of one s breath and body and maintaining relaxation. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A scapegoat must have two qualities. First, it must be anecdotal; meaning it must be representative of certain unwanted evils. Burke describes these unwanted evils as guilt from historical and cultural identifications. In my understanding, historical and cultural identifications can be seen in modern day situations such as Tamir s. These identifications are the negative associations which African American stereotypes have created throughout time. An article written by Kenneth W. Goings in February 1990, states the idea of these stereotypes, saying, These objects produced from the late 17th century to the present, have been almost universally derogatory, with exaggerated racial features that helped prove that African Americans were different and inferior. (Goings, Kenneth.) Historical and culturally, these stereotypes say things such as African Americans look suspicious based of apparel, facial expressions, or physical intimidation therefore making it reasonable for officers to become suspicious. These stereotypes and identification issues make the scapegoats guilt easily understood by society and law courts that decide cases such as Tamir Rice s. Burke s second point states that a scapegoat needs to be powerful because it must be at least equal to the burden of guilt, so that the sacrifice destroys a vessel strong enough to hold the transgression. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some of the methods are GMP RAM, INOVA etc.[8] Fuzzy Arithmetic EIA methods need specific parameters and variables to be measured to estimate values of impact indicators. However many of the environment impact properties cannot be measured on a scale e.g. landscape quality, lifestyle quality, social acceptance etc. and moreover these indicators are very subjective. Thus to assess the impacts we may need to take the help of information from similar EIAs, expert criteria, sensitivity of affected population etc. To treat this information, which is generally inaccurate, systematically, fuzzy arithmetic and approximate reasoning methods can be utilised. This is called as a fuzzy logic approach.[9] At the end of the project, an EIA should be followed by an audit. An EIA audit evaluates the performance of an EIA by comparing actual impacts to those that were predicted. The main objective of these audits is to make future EIAs more valid and effective. The two main considerations are: scientific to check the accuracy of predictions and explain errors. management to assess the success of mitigation in reducing impacts. Some people believe that audits be performed as a rigorous scientific testing of the null hypotheses. While some believe in a simpler approach where you ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The three texts of Empiricism by unknown, Existentialism by unknown, What is Philosophy? by unknown, and Existentialism as Philosophy by Fernando Molina all incorporate the history and subtopics that tie in with Philosophy. Philosophywas originally used by the Greeks which was defined as the pursuit of knowledge for its own sake, and comprised ALL areas of speculative thought, including the arts, sciences and religion (What is Philosophy). Since Philosophy is such a large and extensive topic to cover, it is easier to understand when it is broken off into individual sections. The two sections that will be focused on are empiricism and existentialism. Empiricism derives from the Greek word for experience and from the Roman word of empiric , which is a physician whose skill comes from experience. Empiricism encompasses the idea that all knowledge is gained from self experience. In the text Empiricism the author wrote It emphasizes the role of experience and evidence, especially sensory perception, in the formation of ideas, and argues that the only knowledge humans can have is a posteriori (i.e. based on experience). Essay on Class Struggle and the Communist Manifesto Class Struggle and the Communist Manifesto The Communist Manifesto is profoundly marked by the history of class struggle and social inequality throughout history. In fact Marx suggests that history is in essence merely a timeline of class struggle, unchanging apart from the alteration in mode of production. The document is the story of the conflict between the Proletariat and the Bourgeois, the oppressed and the oppressor, the haves and the have nots, etc? However, this is not a new idea and Marx is really not all that radical. This study is relevant because it was taking place at the same time as the Manifesto was being written.[v] The system led to a series of revolutions because as Hoch deduced, ?Serf behavior and attitudes were in fact an integrated human response to the ecological constraints at work in the society and to the inhumane degradation of being reduced to property.?[vi] Its existence during the Enlightenment is an indicator that social inequality is the child of economics. • 32. Symbolism In The Mermaid Chair, By Sue Monk Kidd Abstract Island is an emblem of both remoteness and nirvana in both East and West. In the East, to the Buddha, island is a positive symbol of revitalization in the core of the ocean of Samsara. In Commonwealth feminist writers such as Anita Desai and Sue Monk Kidd, the island becomes a metaphor for a woman s quest for freedom and identity. The Mermaid Chairis a vividly imagined novel about the spirit and the ecstasies of the body; one that illuminates a woman s self awakening with the brilliant and power that only a writer of Kidd s ability could conjure. An island is a land mass that is often smaller than a continent. An island is normally surrounded by water completely. • 34. Groundwork of the Metaphysics of Morals by Emmanuel Kant In his book, Groundwork of the Metaphysic of Morals, Kant explores the issues of human morality, and attempts to seek out and establish the supreme principle of morality (Kant 60). Despite acknowledging that human beings will still most likely act morally, whether or not they have a clear understanding of moral principles, Kant explains that a clearer understanding of moral principles can allow individuals to fulfill their moral obligations, and keep their motivations pure. Kant starts off, in the preface, by stating that Ancient Greek philosophy was divided into three sciences: physics, ethics, and logic (Kant 55). Physics being the study of natural philosophy, and the world of material objects; ethics, the study of moral philosophy, and on what basis human beings ought to act; and logic, the study of empirical knowledge, independent of material objects. These three fields then fall into categories of empirical or non empirical philosophy. In the Groundwork, Kant decides to focus on pure, non empirical ethics, which he refers to as a metaphysic of morals (Kant 56). In attempting to develop an a priori concept of morality based on reason, as opposed to empirical observations, Kant comes to the conclusion that a free will and a will under moral laws are one and the same (Kant 114). This statement ties together Kant s aim in the Groundwork, in that the supreme principle of morality is developed through the notion of freedom, as it, then, provides a basis for morality. ... • 35. Literary Devices In The Snows Of Mount Kilimanjaro The story, The Snows of Mount Kilimanjaro, by Ernest Hemingway opens up with a description of Mount Kilimanjaro. Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa (Downie 1). The mountain is said to be where God resides, high up on the mountain. Different themes like relationships and death flood the story. It starts with the main characterHarry, and his wife stranded on the mountain. Hemmingway utilizes different literary devices to bring out these themes, with the main character facing his last moments alive. The story is full of powerful literary devices. However, it mostly portrays symbolism and flashback. Symbolism is the main literary device that Hemingway uses throughout the story. Animal symbolism is dominant as it is what the author uses at the beginning of the story. In a short prologue at the beginning, Hemingway talks of a leopard carcass at the summit of the mountain. He says, Close to the Western summit there is the dried and frozen carcass of a leopard, (Hemingway 1). The readers may find it difficult to explain how a leopard found its way up the mountain and what exactly it was doing wandering so high up at the summit. Hemingway uses the leopard to symbolize power, courage, and uttermost strength, which are characters Harry had as a young man. He hopes that he will regain these characters someday. He aspires to go back to his old ways where he was profound and of good character during his youth, rather than the character he had developed. While both ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

During this time the Roman Empire was still composed mainly of pagans. Although the population of Christians was on the rise, in the beginning of the fourth century, Christians made up only 10 percent of the population in the Roman Empire. There were approximately five million Christians in the Roman Empire meaning that they were still the minority (Waldron). His conversion was an important turning point not only for Christians but also for the Roman Empire as a whole. Although most Romans still believed in Greco Roman religions, Constantine decided to become a Christian because he knew that it would be beneficial for his role as emperor. His conversion was prompted by his desire to end the tetrarchy structure of the Roman Empire and to become the sole ruler of the Roman Empire. The story of Constantine s conversion was told through Eusebius of Caersera. His recount of the story is skewed by his bias. In order to show a more holistic view of the story I will be comparing his account to the account of another historian named Andreas AlfoМ€ldi. The comparison will show that Constantine had other motives for converting to Christianity. Constantine s decision to become a Christian was influenced by numerous external factors. He emulated the monotheistic nature of Christianity and used it as the foundation of his reign and used Christianity to advance his political agenda. When ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
