Descriptive Essay About Being Alone
We are dark as the moonless night, yet just as bright; intense and mysterious as the forces that
shaped us. Living in the shadows we fade from sight and mind, but we are always there, forever
defending what is ours. Porous and jagged, we absorb or repel anything as well as anyone who
seeks to oppose us. Whilst the ranks of our enemies dwindle over time we endure, unwavering in
our determination. Alone we are weak, ineffective, and ultimately meaningless. Together we are
strong, steadfast and spectacular in our simplicity. We as one eternally serve the greater purpose, all
with the pride and patience only our kind possess.
At first, we were one, mighty and strong, we were great, but without meaning in our existence,
without scope or direction. Then, there was heat; blinding, raging heat stronger than even the
forces that shaped us, it tore us apart. Shattered our very view of the world and separated us from
one another. As suddenly as the groundbreaking warmth appeared it was gone, leaving me all
alone in the bitter cold to fend for myself. For the first time I was on my own, my reality broken in
an instant into a million tiny pieces; it was overwhelming and strange, yet stunning along with
euphoric.
In the beginning the silence was empty and lacking. After a lifetime of togetherness, the lonely
feeling of isolation cut deep within me. To have a mind of my own was both invigorating and
petrifying, thoughts echoing far enough in the vastness to be lost on their own

Comparing Plato And Aristotle s View Of Democracy
Like the best life, the best system of government is conducted in accordance with excellence.
(Aristotle, N. Ethics 1295a 25)
In terms of Democracy, Plato and Aristotle differ extensively. For instance, Plato considers
Democracy as a fundamentally corrupted form of government, where the possession of power rests
upon the will of the masses, which for Plato are incapable of achieving true knowledge. Conversely,
Aristotle recognizes Democracy among the best forms of governance. However, he argues that
democratic rule, if exercise in the form of Polity, will eventually lead society to pursue the best life.
Moreover, for the purpose of this essay I will concentrate in analyzing Plato and Aristotle s works
with respect to democracy in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(POL. 1297b 37)
In addition, Aristotle and Plato fundamentally disagree in the conception of positive outcomes
with democratic governance. Specifically, Aristotle argues that if and only if the majority
exercises its power according to the rule of law, the majority s will is consider as valid, since
only by following the principles of law a society can achieve the best life. (POL 1295a)
Conversely, Plato clearly rejects the possibility of any positive consequence under democratic
authority. Since according to him, the masses possession of political authority in a democracy
appears to be the complete negation of social order and hierarchy. (REP. 556a 10)
Third, there are two major aspects in which Plato and Aristotle criticize democratic freedom. For
instance, Plato criticizes democracy mainly because he argues that the particular way in which a
democratic government exercises freedom allows individuals to behave lawlessly; therefore living
upon their desires. (REP 557a 5)
In contrast, Aristotle recognizes two important elements of freedom in a democracy. First, he
acknowledges as positive the fact that in a democracy freedom can be understood as the
possibility of rule and being ruled in turn. (POL 1317a 40) Next, like Plato, Aristotle criticizes
democracy based on the idea that for him, it symbolizes the rule of the majority that has the liberty
to act without constrains. (POL 1317b 13)

Inelastic Good
What are the definition of and elastic good and an inelastic good? If the price on an elastic good
or service rises, people react quickly not to buy it due to it being something they can do without.
If the price on an inelastic good or service rises, people are not so quick not to buy it. They may
cut some usage or consumption of it, but not as if they can do without. When I lived in Arizona,
you can get a gallon of Reverse Osmosis water for $0.15 from a Reverse Osmosis water
dispensing machine. There were other machines that would do the same thing, but they cost
$0.25 a gallon. I was not too quick to buy from the $0.25 machines because I did not believe that I
should have to pay more for good water. To me, this was an elastic good cause

Green Symbolism In The Great Gatsby
Looking Green, Old Sport Throughout literature, colors are used to represent feelings, emotions
and actions of characters. In the novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, the color green
is used to represent the love story between Jay Gatsby and Daisy Buchanan. As he grew up and
worked for his immense fortune, Gatsby transformed his life into one he felt would impress her
the most. Fitzgerald uses the color green to represent Gatsby s perfect image of Daisy, and the
greed that engulfs the couple throughout the entire novel. Green often is used to represent a fresh
start someone experiences after a large change, and the change could be due to a single individual.
One day, Jordan tells Nick a memory of her walking along a green lawn when... Show more content

The iconic green light s meaning also changed for Gatsby. While he used to see the symbol of
his love and hopes for Daisy in the green light, but now it occurred to him that the colossal
significance of that light had now vanished forever, and Nick continues to describe that now it
was a green light on a dock. His count of enchanted objects had diminished by one (93). For
years Gatsby sought a change in his life, and he hoped the change would finally get the love of
his life back, but the change he needed was to let himself begin to move on. Fitzgerald used
green to show a new beginning, and now Gatsby was achieving his own. During October, Nick
finally moves away from the Late Mr. Gatsby s home. In addition, Jordan tells Daisy life starts
all over again when it gets crisp in the fall (118) during an earlier section in the novel. Autumn is
the time of year when green leaves and grass fade to a yellow and brown to die, symbolizing the
feeling Gatsby felt for Daisy dying along with him. The last time Gatsby was even seen was when
he disappeared among the yellowing trees (161). His final moments were spent walking among
green trees that were beginning to fade to yellow, like the way his perfect image of Daisy and his
love for her faded as well. The color green became a symbol of a restart, like how Gatsby felt after
he let himself begin to move on from

Research Paper On Iran Hostage Crisis
Iran Hostage Crisis
On November 4th, 1979, a group of enraged of Islamic revolutionists invaded the United States
Embassy in Tehran. They had taken 60 Americans hostage for 444 days until President Ronald
Reagan had taken Oath of office. It was nearly minutes after Reagan had taken office that they were
released. Ayatollah Khomeini enforced an anti Western Islamic theocracy, overrode the pro Western
monarchy of the Shah of Iran. Iran had felt that the United States was interfering with their internal
affairs. They feared that they would return the Shah to power. The Shah had fled to mexico and the
doctors there had uncovered that he was suffering an aggressive cancer. With this recent discovery

Texas Supreme Court Case Study
Texas is unusual in its judiciary systems because there are two supreme courts; one handles
criminal cases, while the other handles civil cases (Liberal Arts Instructional Technology Services,
2016). These courts are known as the Court of Criminal Appeals, and The Supreme Court of
Texas; the first handling appeals from criminal cases throughout the state, and the latter having
final jurisdiction in all civil cases and cases involving juveniles (Liberal Arts Instructional
Technology Services, 2016). The only other state with a similar judiciary system is Oklahoma
(Robison, 2008). The separate Supreme Courts were established over 100 years ago to lessen
caseloads and the burden on the Supreme Court, and theoretically speed up the court process...

While they still have too many cases and get backed up, I think it would be much worse if it
were one court having to hear all the cases, or the court would refuse to hear as many criminal
appeals due to time constraints. If it assists the process even a little bit, then the separate courts
meet their goal and can ultimately be considered a success. If I were to change anything, I would
probably try to make a couple more branches of both courts in order to lessen the number of
cases seen, even if it s only a little. More criminal cases could be reviewed that way, and more
civil cases could be heard in a timely fashion. I think if there was one court that would see more
controversial cases, two criminal appeals courts, and two civil cases courts, the workload could be
lowered. Anything that allows more cases to be heard is important to our legal

The Failure of the Post Civil War Reconstruction Period...
After the North won the civil war, it was time to rebuild this nation. This period of reconstruction
was supposed to have a profound change on society. Unfortunately this was not the case.
Reconstruction did not fundamentally alter this nation. Not to say that nothing happened, but
nothing that really made a change or difference happened. First, the control of the south was given
right back to the planter elite. Also, even though slavery was abolished; blacks were not free.
Finally, Congress and President Johnson could not get along. Although the civil war reshaped this
country profoundly. The reconstruction efforts did little but scratch a surface, before being quickly
wiped away. After the civil war the South was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They also called for any officials to swear an oath of allegiance to the union.2 After Lincoln s
assassination, and Johnson s inaugeration these plans changed. Johnson pardoned all the
southern leaders that were in trouble for seceding from the union. This effectively put them
back in power in the South. Ultimately everything that congress and Lincoln had tried to do in
the south. Taking back the power from those who seceded. As well as any help that was given to
the poor whites or any blacks in the south was undone by Johnson. One of the biggest ways the
reconstruction efforts failed was with giving equal rights to the black community. Although the
slaves were freed it was very conditional freedom. The creation of Black codes made it seem like
they were free. These codes made it possible for black families to remain intact. It also gave
blacks the right to sue in court, and own property. This seems like progressive thinking at the
time. The big problem with these codes is what they denied blacks. Blacks could not testify
against whites. They could not own guns, or travel without permits. Although slavery had ended
blacks were still being controlled. Without slaves to work in the fields the plantation owners
needed workers. A lot of them would rent out their land to newly freed blacks. In exchange these
poor blacks would have to give up 2/3 of their crop.3 The rest would be used to pay off their debts.

Essay on Unconditional Planetary Love
Over the years, the Earth s atmosphere has been exposed to many man made products and
pollutants, and has incurred detrimental effects in return. The ozone layer is suffering severe
damage from the gasses that are emitted from cars, factories, aerosol sprays and much more. Fossil
fuels are the single largest of atmospheric pollution; when burnt, they release in the air particle
matter, carbon monoxide and dioxide, oxides of nitrogen and sulfur, and metal compounds (Our
Planet). There are many things that can be done, to reduce the negative effects which are now

According to the U.S. Department of Energy , In 1990, California s wind power plants offset the
emission of more than 2.5 billion pounds of carbon dioxide, and 15 million pounds of other
pollutants that would have otherwise been produced (Wind). However, there are concerns about
the noise that is produced from the blades, and the fact that birds, or other small flying animals
can fly into the blades and die. Another small issue with wind power is that it is often available
only in remote or offshore locations. As a whole, these concerns are minimal compared to the
benefits that can be reaped.
Biomass is another great resource for producing electricity. Biomass is a matter usually thought of
as garbage (Energy). It includes wood chips, crops, tires, dead trees, manure and much more. When
garbage decomposes, it gives off methane gas (Energy). Pipelines are put into the landfills and the
methane gas can be collected. It is then used in power plants to make electricity (Energy).
An additional use of biomass is to produce ethanol. Ethanol can be used in special types of cars
that are made for using alcohol fuel instead of gasoline. The alcohol can also be combined with
gasoline. This reduces our dependence on oil a non renewable fossil fuel (Energy). Biomass is a
renewable resource, because trees and plants can be replanted over and over, and used to produce
fuel. Biomass fuels are used to meet the energy needs of nearly half the

Male Presence In The Awakening
The lack of male presence symbolizes their disdain in the women s lives. As portrayed in the book,
the protagonist and other major characters are all females, suggesting self sufficiency. The author
writes about the women being left by their husbands, but moves on, depicting male triviality. The
female characters also develop their independence when they rely on each other during difficult
times. The main character and other major characters receive very little help from men, which
depicts their independence. The men have vacated from their lives, leaving an obstacle, which
debates the women s response to the inconvenience. Instead, they invigoratingly maneuver their
mentality, verifying their capabilities. One character, specifically,... Show more content on

This can be shown through interactions with some of the female characters. The pairs: Lou Ann
and Taylor, Mrs. Parsons and Edna Poppy, Taylor and Mattie, clearly depicts their support for
each other. Lou Ann and Taylor builds their relationship when Taylor adjusts to raising Turtle,
while Mrs. Parsons supports Edna with her disadvantage. Yet what correlates the most is Taylor
and Mattie s relationship. This can be most seen when Taylor consults to Mattie about Turtle.
Even with this on her mind, she spent a lot of time talking with me about Turtle. She told me
some things I didn t know...Do I think it would be interesting, maybe even enjoyable in the long
run, to share my life with this kid and give her my best effort and maybe, when all s said and
done, end up with a good friend (Kingsolver 239). When Taylor debates a life changing choice of
adopting Turtle, she discusses it with Mattie. In the process, Mattie offers exquisite advice,
showing Taylor could always seek Mattie for advice. In the process, Mattie depicts herself as a
motherly figure to Taylor which bolsters Taylor s adoration for Mattie. The women in the story
represent the strong relationships people could build with each

Compare And Contrast Art And Renaissance Art
When one ponders the significance of the artwork that was produced during the Renaissance,
Baroque and
Rococo stylistic periods, advancement in scientific understanding during these periods may seem to
be nothing more than an afterthought. For centuries, the quest for scientific knowledge and
understanding by the artisan community had been smothered by the Christian church who fulfilled
the role of main patron of art during the Middle Ages. However, the
15th to 18th century experienced a turning point, not just creatively, but also in relation to artisans
inculcating an every increasing scientific knowledge base into their creative works (The Art
Institute of Chicago, 2003). The Renaissance in particular, which by definition means rebirth, set in

The intent of this short essay is to illustrate how one work of art from each of the following stylistic
periods demonstrated the deepening relationship between art and scientific knowledge:
Renaissance, Baroque and Rococo. During the Renaissance, one of the most influential artists,
Leonardo Da Vinci, embodied the spirit of the
Renaissance due to his multifaceted expertise in numerous fields outside of art. Leonardo Da Vinci
had a passion for scientific exploration, specifically relating to the anatomy and physiology (A P) of
the human body (The Art Institute of
Chicago, 2003). Da Vinci was passionate about learning as much as he possibly could about A P
so that he can accurately and precisely portray the human body in his artwork (The Art Institute of
Chicago, 2003). Numerous sketches have been found in the pages of Leonardo s journals with
vividly detailed sketches of the skeletal system, muscular system, and organ systems of the human
body. One work in particular entitled sketch of Uterus and Foetus brilliantly illustrates how
Leonardo melded science and art. On first glance, the eye is immediately drawn to the detailed

Is The NFL Protest Of Kneeling In The Star Spangled Banner...
Though the NFL protest of kneeling during the Star Spangled Banner appears to be disrespectful
at first glance, if one really takes the time to investigate the issue they will see it is a justifiable
way to express their first amendment right. Kneeling is something people do when they pray to
show great respect toward their heavenly father. However, when one person kneels during the
National Anthem many people go and claim their actions are disrespectful without any
knowledge of why they kneeled. Many believe that the kneeling is to show disrespect toward the
country. Well, it s not. The protest is really just about those denying the most basic freedoms.
According to Julius Peppers, this wasn t about disrespecting the military, disrespecting the flag,
police, first responders, none of that, and those are the reasons people are thinking for why the
players are protesting. When really according to SB Nation NFL, The players are simply
protesting systemic oppression against people of color, police brutality, and the criminal justice
system. The national anthem is just the vehicle for the protest. Meaning people of color just want
equal rights and want to be treated like humans instead of animals. Many may believe that people
of color have all equal rights, yet those people that believe that are white and may not be educated
on what is happening around them. If people educate themselves on to why this protest is
happening they will see that even veterans are agreeing

Essay Operant Conditioning
Ivan Pavlov
Classical conditioning is a method used in behavioral studies. It is known as classical because it is
the first study of laws of learning/conditioning, It is a learned reaction that you do when evoked by
a stimulus.
Ivan Pavlov was the scientist who discovered classical conditioning. Ivan Pavlov was born in
Russia. He lived from 1849 1936 . Pavlov s field of study was physiology and natural science.
One of Pavlov s discoveries was the conditioning of dogs. While working with the dogs he
investigated the salivation reaction when food was present. He discovered that the dogs would
salivate when he entered the room with and without food. Pavlov then went on to training the dogs.

The animal would response. It would then be rewarded. The response is then learned. If the
response was not rewarded then it would disappear over time. The animals would be placed into
the puzzle boxes and would only be able to escape by making certain responses such as pushing
a button. The experiment with the cats entailed placing a hungry cat into the puzzle box. He then
observed its behaviour. The cat would try and escape in order to obtain food. The cat in most
cases would act on a trial and error method. When the cat obtained the food the trial and error
behaviour decreased and the cat soon learnt how to escape quickly. The learnt behaviour took time
and did not improve quickly. The amount of time the cat spent in the box slowly shorted. Upon
completion of his experiment Thorndike learnt that certain stimuli and responses became associated
or dissociated from each other. He developed his law of effect.
Thorndike concluded that animals learn by trial and error, or most importantly by reward and
punishment. He then linked the behavior of the cats to all beings. His work with animals was the
founding principle of Instrumental Learning. His most famous work was on the learning theory
that lead to the development of operant conditioning by a psychologist called Burrhus.Frederic
Skinner.
Skinner was born in Pennsylvania on March 20, 1904. Skinners first studied English at Hamilton
College. He often wrote for the college newspaper. He

contributed to changing American society today. DuBois is mostly remember for his work with
the NAACP and his notorious feud with civil rights activist Booker T. Washington. Having a
strong stand in what he believed in, his main goal was to improve the lives of African
Americans. On February 23, 1868, William Edward Burghardt DuBois was born to Alfred

as well. In 1885 he migrated to Nashville, Tennessee to attend Fisk University ( W.E.B DuBois. ).
While at Fisk, DuBois encountered irrational racism and Jim Crow laws for the first time.

point that he began to form his idea of the talented tenth a cadre of college educated blacks that
would break down the institutional structures of American racism while elevating their race to a

What Is The Theme Of Confinement In Bolary By Gustave...
The confinement of females under mental and physical distress is the central theme in Gustave
Flaubert s Madame Bovary, and Wilkie Collins The Woman in White. Flaubert s Emma Bovary is a
narcissist whose self induced obsession with literature restricts her from having a happy fulfilling
life, as nothing compares to the excitement and adventures she reads in her novels. While the plot
of Wilkie Collins The Woman in White depicts the story of two women who are deceived and
incarcerated in a private asylum. These asylums proliferated in the mid nineteenth century as
alternatives to the established large scale public hospitals/asylums. This assignment will compare
and contrast the methods used by both authors to define confinement, including structure, setting,

Flaubert prefigures this when she goes to confession.
When she went to confession, she made up little sins so as to stay there longer, kneeling in the
shadows, her hands joined, her face against the screen beneath the whispering of the priest. The
metaphors of the betrothed, the spouse, the celestial lover and the eternal marriage, such as recur in
sermons, excited a strange sweetness deep in her soul (p34).
Irony is another method Flaubert used to depict confinement. Thus, by ironically undercutting the
romance in the novel with realism he satirically pokes fun at the bourgeoisie society. This is
apparent when Emma throws her wedding bouquet into the fire to symbolize the end of her
marriage, just before she becomes pregnant (). In her introduction to Madame Bovary, Roberts
quotes,
This subtle use of irony always leads Emma back to reality, that works against her vision and desire
of things, it is this tense alternation of feeling, pathos and irony of intimacy and estrangement that
make up the sweet and sour of Madame Bovary

Anatomical And Structural Differences Between Arteries And...
Briefly identify and discuss the anatomical and structural differences between arteries and veins.
I found the differences between arteries and veins are their functions they provide to the heart as
well as their structure. Arteries transfers blood away from the heart into the periphery resulting in
the pressure of the blood in the arteries being high. Where as, the veins transfer blood towards the
heart. Arteries carry oxygenated blood distributing it in the periphery as the pulmonary artery
moves deoxygenated blood into the lungs for purification. The wall of an artery consists of three
layers machining it thicker than veins. The elasticity within the layers of the muscle allows
arteries to handle great pressures of blood within it. The thickest layer is known as tunica media
as the other two are recognized as tunica externa, and tunica interna. The vein obtains blood from
the periphery and carries it towards the heart. Veins are known to carry deoxygenated blood and
transfers it the heart for purification. The pulmonary vein is known to carry oxygenated blood.
However, there are semilunar valves found within the vein that does not allow retrograde flow of
blood in preventing blood to flow in the opposite direction. Veins are thinner when compared to
arteries consisting of thin elastic muscle layers with one thick layer being the tunica adventitia.
Arteries consist of: carrying oxygenated blood expect for the pulmonary artery; deeply found in the
body; thick walled and

Reflection About Symbolism
Have you ever thought about symbolism in your life? Symbolism is important in our lives
because if we recognize symbols and what they represent, it can help us to become a better
person by letting us know what we need in our lives and how it helps us. I spent some time
thinking about symbolism and here s what I came up with. The first five symbols I would like
to address represent the activities that I like to do often. My first symbol would be a shoe
because I m in cross country and I like to run because it teaches me perseverance and endurance.
I like this because whenever I overcome an obstacle like a longer race or a harder practice, it
makes me feel great about myself because of what I ve just done. Another symbol I feel
describes me well would be the internet icon because I feel using the internet to create things
allows you to do almost anything you want to. I ve been designing websites with increasing
amounts of skill since sixth grade, all of which have been visited by other online traffic. This
makes me feel good about myself because it shows that others are taking notice of my work!
The third symbol I chose would be a BMX ramp because when I m not able to ride mountain bikes,
I ride BMX. I ride BMX because it betters me as a mountain biker and lets me do things I wouldn t
normally be able to do on a mountain bike. BMX bikes are different from mountain bikes in many
ways. They are shorter and have smaller wheels. Some of them don t have brakes and

A lot of airplane pilots get the title of being self centered or having a big ego because they are
misunderstood. Pilots are often thought to have big egos because they can operate a very

because a certain man or woman is capable of flying these fixed winged vehicles does not mean
they think they are above the rest of ordinary people. Pilots are a group people would not think

Maybe rewind to the fifties and that would not be a stereotype but rather the truth. To be honest
your airplane pilots today range all over the place from white suburban family men who are
caring to our troops right in our backyard protecting us to small farm owners who fly their crop
dusters to retired people who are just travelling the world looking for a good time. These are all
caring people but let us start with your average airliner pilots. The normal airliner pilot is
probably the one that gets the most hate, or misunderstood, because arrogant people give them
that bad reputation. Often this particular pilot is misunderstood because they are away from
their families and have a very high divorce rate. Due to the the divorce rate statistic they are
often believed to be cheaters , or unloyal to their spouse. These pilots are often like robots or
machines who do the same old same old but do contradict the said personality of a robot because
they are also very caring people. These pilots have taken on the responsibility of being
responsible of hundreds of people s lives all at once. It is their responsibility to escort those people

Puritans Impact On American Society
The name, American Society, represents a society that many believed was shaped by America
itself. However, Puritanism shaped America s ethical and political views, and the Great Awaken
shaped the people s belief on religious freedom in the nation. Therefore, these events did not only
shape the time prior to the Civil War, but shaped America for times to come. Puritans did a variety
of things for America, other than make people of this age think they re some Pharisees or some
weird freaks over religion. They actually helped in contributing Americans devotion to the practice
of education. Puritans had a zeal for education and that zeal was founded in their origins. In the
view of the Puritans, the Biblewas their central to Christian education. They desired education and
enlightenment for everyone, especially the common people. They wanted people to be able to
read and understand the Bible for themselves in order perspire in the wondrous religion they call
their life. Reading of the Bible was necessary to living a devoted life to God. The education of
the next generation was important to further purify the church and perfect social living in order to
enter the gates of heaven. This view goes back to Martin Luther s idea, who stated, Above all, the
foremost reading for everybody, both in the universities and in the schools, should be Holy
Scripture... I would advise no one to send his child where the Holy Scriptures are not supreme.
Once the Puritans ventured to the

Occupational Therapy Research
Many people can agree that working with children is rewarding. And yet, sometimes the
education system tends to be overlooked for those with a disadvantage. Unfortunately, according
to one source Up to 15% of school age children are believed to have sensory challenges, and at
least 40% of individuals with developmental disabilities and 80% of those with autism are affected
(Research opportunities, 2014, p. 244). With that being said, some schools or Occupational therapy

Using attentive research to make sure they integrate what is needed and they also can come
between and identify and predict what would be most effective for a specific group with similar
developmental challenges and its environment. Putting this into perspective seems to be an
appropriate approach. For instance, an OTA can help figure out a plan of action for a group of
preschoolers who have a sensory processing disorder and are oversensitive to sight, sound or
even smell. Practitioners who demonstrate the predictive value of the occupational therapy
process help improve the quality and effectiveness of health care which are key goals of the
ACA (Persch, 2013, p.384). Ultimately, my interest in a pediatric setting originated from
working at a preschool. Seeing kids with a sensory processing disorder (SPD), birth defect or a

Lone Ranger And Tonto Fistfight In Heaven Analysis
Lone Ranger and Tonto FistFight in Heaven On a sunny, warm spring day in May, how does a
high school teacher grab students attention? Dreams, sex,and humor will intrigue some but add in
the idea of analyzing a person or character s psyche and even more eyes perk up. Student begin
questioning, how do dreams reveal a person s unconscious thoughts? They ponder: when friends
are joking around, it is to be funny or is there more too it? Students consider what type of argument
can be formed is support or defense of why young children make humorous and sexual comments.
Some answers can be discovered by examining literature through psychoanalysis. In fact, Freudian
psychoanalysis, especially of literature, reveals as much about characters as it does about real
people and society in general. When analyzing literature, Sherman Alexie, a critically acclaimed,
novelist and poet provides a humorous and honest insight into Native American culture and the
challenges of assimilating into mainstream society. His novels, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part
Time Indian and The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven, lead readers through the trials of
growing up on a Native American reservation. His adolescent protagonists, Junior and Victor, fight
through their disillusionment of Native American life in a humorous and relatable way. Combining
Alexie s work with that of Freud much can be gained about the mindset of Native American youths
and the enigma of society. Looking through

It also concluded that more research was needed on the use of educational gaming as a
pedagogical tool in STEM disciplines as teachers prepare the 21st century learner. According to this
article given emerging research on how videogames and associated pedagogies work in designed
settings, it seem that the important questions is not can games be used to support learning but how
can they support learning(Earnest, 2012). This is a controversial issue that can go either way but
there is more positive outcome than negative at this time. One advantage of educational gaming

Out of the 11plus millions of undocumented immigrants currently living in the U.S., an estimated of
8.1 million are in the workforce. A study from the Institute on Taxation Economic Policy (ITEP)
found that undocumented immigrants in the U.S. contribute about $11.8 billion in state and local
taxes in 2012 and the effective rate for undocumented immigrants is about 8 percent nationwide.
Their contributions could increase by 2.1 billion dollars under a compressive immigrationreform. In
Florida, for instance, there are currently 850,000 undocumented immigrants, they contribute
$598,677,875 in state and local taxes which could be 59,865,125 more with a full reform impact.

In 1990 The Super Famicom was released in Japan and a year later in the west under the name

Compare And Contrast Plague Of Athens And The Plague
The Plague of Athens, taking place in 429 B.C.E., is the first mass killing plague known to
historians today. However, this doesn t mean that it wasn t as dangerous as plagues later on in
history. In total 100,000 people died which is equivalent to more than one third of the Greece
population. In the book The Plague, the city of Oran is overrun by a deadly disease. In both the
Plague of Athens and the novel The Plague by Albert Camus, similarities occurred such as the
diffusion of the disease, the symptoms and causes, and the social change. In both plagues, rats
played a big part in spreading the disease. In the two separate plagues rats were one of the known
reasons for the start of the plague. As stated in an article by the New World Encyclopedia, In
addition, crowding caused by the influx of refugees into the city led to inadequate food and
water supplies and an increase in insects, lice, rats, and waste. ( Plague of Athens ). Not only
were the rats spreading the disease to fellow rodents, but they spread it to people also. This was
the main reason why both plagues spread so fast. In the novel, the rats were found before the
main disease started. The author wrote, He saw a big rat coming toward him from the dark end of
the passage. It moved uncertainly, and its fur was sopping wet. The animal stopped and seemed to
be trying to get its balance, moved forward again towards the doctor, halted again, then spun

Essay on Biography of the Literary Works of Dylan Thomas
Drunk with melody, and what the words were, he cared not. This was a very common view
among early commentators about Dylan Thomas (Cox 1). Thomas was a poet who was either
loved or hated. It depended on the individual, and how they viewed his poetry. He was very
famous for his poetry because it contained visions of life, aspects of birth and death, fear, grief,
joy, and beauty. At a younger age, Thomas was a very violent poet. As he grew older, he spoke for
all men greatly when he wrote. He wrote his poems referring to the qualities and sensations of life.
The strength of feelings, which were expressed in his writings, gave many different impressions

The poem contained lines of great beauty, but descriptive in horror and suffering toward the
redemption of man, after Crucifixion (Magill 54). This poem demonstrated the life and death
paradox. It made clear that the person in the poem, resembled Christ who dies, along with humans
who will also die. A critic stated that this poem was absolute poetry, by a pattern of words and
images. This certain critic saw Thomas begin his writing toward the economy more (Knepper
2885). Thomas was not successful in this poem because it was too packed and fragmentary. He did
not communicate his suffering and hope into the poem (Magill 54).
Over Sir John s Hill is another poem that Dylan wrote, but was enjoyed a lot more. To make this
poem interesting, he used the technique of allegory. Allegory is when a character acts as more
than one thing at a time. He does this by making an actor, act as a bird, who acts like a mortal
man, who also acts as a immortal soul. The actor was three parts of three different stories, all in
one tale. This poem also illustrates the legal system and religion. The birds and countryside played
the role of human behavior. The Hill represented the Judge who sentenced humans to die. The bird
was sentenced because it played too many tricks on other birds, in reality, other people. The Hawk
acted as the executioner. The Heron in the poem, represented the church which ignored all the chaos
around it (Knepper 2886). Thomas

Marijuana became more popular in the early 20th century and as grown in use. When marijuana
became popular officials tried to control in under the Marijuana Tax Act in
1937. This act just stated that if you were using it for medical reason that you had to pay tax for
it. So, to me it sound like we have given in before but eventually saw that it was being abused.
Adolescents and young adults started increasing in marijuana usage in the late 60?s and early 70?s.
During this time another act was passed which divided drigs into five catagoreis. Marijuana was
placed uner the first catagory. That catagory stated and I quote
? drugs with higher potenial for abuse and no accepted medical use.? But in 1972 the
National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Legalization which discriminalize marijuana
petitioned that marijuana be moved from catagory 1 to catagory 2 but were denied the grant. The
reason for this petition was that marijuana could be used as a theraputic medicine and because it
was less toxic and was more effecient than conventional medicine. Since the National Oranization

Single Gender Schools
Many people believe that single gender schools have no positive effect on students, research
shows otherwise. In single gender schools there is less drama, it helps preserve culture, there are
less stereotypes, and test scores and confidence levels rise. Single gender schools have many
positive impacts, and they help students prepare for the future.
For starters there is less drama at an all girls school. Since there aren t any guys on campus, you
aren t gonna be jealous of a couple at school. Another reason there is less drama is that you aren t
vying for the guys attention. This also leads to more modesty. Loran Wilbur , who went to an all
girls school said, There was a lot less pressure for appearance at Wellesley. Girls usually just
wore sweat pants and a t shirt. Lastly you don t have to worry about how a guys gonna treat you
because of how you look. A lot of drama is based on relationships and attractions. Remove the
opposite gender from the equation and you have lessened the problem drastically.
Next off single gender schools help preserve many different cultures. In the Islamic or Muslim
culture the co ed schools are promoting illicit relationships, teenage pregnancies, dating, girlfriend
boyfriend culture, extravagance where both sexes throw their parents hard earned money on
materialism and luxurious items to attract the opposite sex (http://defence.pk/threads/co education

this time with their king Darius (Hunter 23). It is estimated that there were 200,000 Persian

Eve s Apology In Defense Of Women By Salve Deus Rex Juadeorum
In Eve s Apology in Defense of Women, an excerpt from Salve Deus Rex Juadeorum, Aemilia
Lanyer uses biblical illusions such as the story of Eve eating the forbidden fruit, as well as satirical
diction to convey a message of unjust attitudes toward the female gender. These attitudes express an
imbalanced judgement of women in religious settings, a notion that would continue to be used not
only when alluding to religion, but also in other everyday life events. Lanyer, however, uses this
satirical language to argue that Eveis only to blame as much as the malecharacters in the story,
Adam and Satan. Since being written in 1611, Salve Deus Rex Juadeorum has interested readers
of all kinds due to its incredible use of feminist diction in several different poems and paragraphs,
all of which are written by a young femaleauthor, Aemilia Lanyer. According to Subjectivity and
Women s Poetry in Early Modern England by Lynette McGrath, Lanyer was trying to sway
aristocratic dedicatees into a benevolent membership in a women s community by poetically
invoking the attractive and idealized discourses of maternity, religion and women s nurturing
love for each other (page 211). In Eve s Apology in Defense of Women the reader can recognize
this heavy use of religious context to persuade her audience to grasp this idea of building a women
s community via the unjust treatment reserved in the very first book of Genesis. The first line of
the poem, which reads Now Pontius Pilate is to

They were large because they needed farmers and everyone in the family worked on the fields.
The older sons made their own crops. Everyone in the house had to respect the older men of the

Whoever the head male was, the wife had to obey them. They practiced filial piety. The men of the

Terrorism And The World s Leading Issues
Terrorism is an unofficial and unauthorized use of extreme violence, force and intimidation in the
pursuit of political and religious gain. Throughout the 20th century, terrorism is among the world s
leading issues. The reason for its existence can be found from the roots of imperialism and its
injustice. Today its momentum and actions have many violent, devastating and deadly effects
throughout the world. The terrorists that drive this fear are perverse Islamic fundamentalists.
Muslim fundamentalists believe that the Qur an should be interpreted literally and context, namely
the time period and the social climate, cannot determine the texts interpretation and application.
Extremists in this group advocate extreme violence in order to fulfil certain elements of the Qur an.
These extremist groups are numerous, however some are more notable than others. Al Qaeda, the
terrorist group that had its formation in Sudan, before relocating to Afghanistan used the Qur an to
justify the 9/11 attack on the Twin Towers. Similarly, the Taliban
, the terrorist group who have
control over Afghanistan have imposed harsh and crude versions of Sharia Law and twisted the
Qur an to suit their endeavours. Furthermore Isis, a Sunni group that aims to create an Islamic state
in Iraq and Syria, have also extracted Quranic verses to suit their ideals and justify their premature
taking of life. Overall, the misinterpretation of the Qur an and the Hadith has led to the justification
of terrorism,

Introduction
Currently, most of the world s energy is derived from fossil fuels (World Energy Resources 2013
Survey). Fossil fuels are a limited resource and might not be able to meet the future energy
requirements of the world for too long (Shafiee and Topal 2009). Apart from being non renewable,
these are also significant contributors of greenhouse gases to the environment leading to air, water
and land pollution (Marland and Rotty 1984). Due to the nature of these resources there is an
urgent need to conserve these resources. It is also important to explore alternative energy sources for
the future. To this end, multiple solutions have been proposed. One of the most ... Show more

It can be anywhere in between 3 years to 30 years or even more depending on a multitude of factors.
Energy pay back time (EPBT):
The Energy Pay Back Time is defined by EPBT = Einput/Esaved, where Einput is the energy input
during the module life cycle (which includes the energy required for manufacturing, installation,
energy use during operation, and energy needed for decommissioning) and Esaved the annual
energy savings due to electricity generated by the PV module. EPBT depends on a number of
factors: cell technology, type of encapsulation, frame and array support, module size efficiency, PV
system application type (autonomous or grid connected) and, finally, PV system performance as
determined by irradiation and the performance ratio. EPBT is also affected by factors that do not
directly relate to the characteristics of the PV power system itself: conversion efficiency of the
electricity supply system and energy requirements of materials like glass, aluminum etc. (Alsema
2000)
In order to determine the EPBT of a photovoltaic system, it is very important to determine the total
energy that is required to manufacture, install, transport and dispose the system as well as energy
required for any other purpose during the life cycle of the system.
A typical PV system consists of different components. The components of a PV system can be
classified into two categories:
1.The Panel: This consists of the panel
2.Balance of system (BOS):

My Life For Rebuilding 90 s Model Cars
My husband and I have a strong passion for rebuilding 90 s model cars such as civics,
hatchbacks, Acura s, Mitsubishi Eclipse s, Celica s, etc. We do two project cars a year, and
have done so for the past four years. We used to be able to find older vehicles that were still in
good condition, the upholstery was in good condition, and there wasn t much wrong mechanically.
About two years ago we started to notice the lack of maintenance and time people would actually
put into their cars. From experience, a car will not run if not properly taken care of and serviced in
the correct time frame.
Normally when my husband and I get a vehicle we always start under the hood. First, check the
oil. Without oil, people run the risk of seizing and locking up the engine and then it becomes a lot
more expensive than just a few quarts of oil. Most people I have noticed, don t know how often to
change their oil. When using regular blend oil, it should be changed around every 3,500 miles.
When purchasing synthetic oil, which is used in most vehicles today drivers should change it
around 7,000 miles. After checking the oil, we check the tire pressure to ensure the correct lbs. of
pressure required for the type of tires and vehicle we have. Other fluid levels to check include the
coolant reservoir, anti freeze levels, as well as transmission and brake fluid. Aside from fluids,
when my husband would perform a tune up on a vehicle new to us, he would also check the spark
plugs and wires

During the evacuation of Dunkirk in 1940 ships from the Royal Navy as well as hundreds of
civilian ships helped to save the thousands of stranded soldiers. But one is well known, a paddle
steamer named The Medway Queen made a total of seven round trips to Dunkirk, successfully
rescuing more than 7,000 soldiers. Today, many movies have depicted different parts of World
War 2, Dunkirk directed by Christopher Nolan has caused enthusiasm about the specific event.
Many movie critics have been trying to find what s fact against what s fiction. The hit movie
Dunkirk stays true to the real life events of the evacuation in WW2. The evacuation, also known
as Operation Dynamo was named after the dynamo room that generated electricity for the
British Naval Headquarters located in the secret tunnels underneath Dover Castle (Dunkirk
Movie vs. the True Story). The operation itself was to get over 400,000 British troops that were
stranded on the coast of Dunkirk, France. The thousands of men were at a very high risk for an
attack from the German air forces blitzkrieg. The film itself focuses on a very important part of

The film raised a lot of questions about the true life events, one was that if the movie stayed truer
or if it was more fiction. There were many parts of the movie that were reenactments of the

characters throughout the movie were not real people, yet some of them were loosely based
around real people. One thing that the movie depicted very well was the number of civilian ships

Cosmetic Dentistry Essay
Cosmetic Dentistry
This morning I woke up and looked in the mirror and noticed that my teeth were not as white as I
like them to be. I think to myself, I need to call and make an appointment to get my teeth whitened
with my dentist. Teeth whitening is an example of Cosmetic Dentistry. Cosmetic Dentistry is
different than regular dentistry in the sense that regular dentistry deals with oral hygiene and the
prevention, diagnosing and treating of any oral diseases. Cosmetic dentistry however focuses on
improving a person s teeth, smile, and mouth. General dentistry deals with what needs to be done

You Fly off your bike and hit your front teeth on the ground chipping both of your beautiful front
teeth. How are you going to fix this? I have a solution. Dental bonding is a type of cosmetic
dentistry that permanently attaches dental materials to the teeth by using adhesives and a
special curing light. Dentists use tooth colored composite to restore chips or cracks. Also to fill
cavities, close gaps between your teeth and repair worn down edges of your teeth. Dentists are
the ones who do the direct composite bonding which means that the procedure is usually done in
one dental visit. Dental bonding does not require any impressions or temporaries. First the
dentist will place a plastic coating on the front of the teeth. Then they will place a bonding agent,
colors it according to the color of your teeth, and shapes it. Then a light called the curing light is
shined through the plastic that causes it to harden and makes the surface look shiny and polished.
Then a thin layer of etch is placed on your teeth to make little fine holes in the enamel of your
teeth. This is so the resin can stick to your teeth very well. Then many coats of composite resin are
placed on your teeth

Legal Procedure
Today, CPP changes in pension law reform, particularly for division requiring expert and legal

new employees it wants to hire hovers around 80%. One former Facebook employee who like
many former employees, might have an agenda puts the rate below 50%. Either way, for a

The eight HR processes that contributed to Toyota s downfall
If the root cause of the problems Toyota is facing are failure by employees to make good decisions,
confront negative news, and make a convincing business case for immediate action, then the HR
processes that may have influenced those decisions must be examined.
The HR processes that must at least be considered as sus pect include rewards processes, training
processes, perform ance management processes, and the hiring process. 1. Rewards and recognition
The purpose of any corporate reward process is to encourage and incent the right be haviours and
to discourage the negative ones. It s im portant for the reward process to incent the gathering of
infor mation about problems. It s equally important to reward employees who are successful in
getting executives to take immediate action on negative information.
Key questions Were rapid growth (sales have nearly doubled recently) and lean cost cutting
recognised and rewarded so heavily that no one was willing to put the brakes on growth so as to
focus on safety? Were the rewards for demon strating error free results so high that obvious errors

Harry Rosen thrives in presenting its customers with a visual image that they can be confident in
regardless of the occasion. When customers come in and see how the mannequins are dressed, it
automatically sparks different ideas in their mind in terms of how they want to be dressed.
However, the problem with the mannequins at Harry Rosen is that it is not changed on regular
basis and is changed close to every 2 months. That is a problem because customers want new ideas;
they want to be shown a new outfit that they might have never thought of, different colors, different
combinations. When the mannequins are not changed on regular basis, it also tells the customers
that there is no new merchandise in the store, thus making it difficult for the associates in selling
the merchandise, as customers don t want to buy merchandise that is not in fashion or season for
that matter. As this trend continues, it would lead to customers being dissatisfied and possibly
loss of customers to competition. Having Mannequins is a must in retail, but knowing where to

Observation On A Restaurant
On October 15, 2017 at approximately 10 AM, I woke up to go to Freddie s Restaurant to start
my observations. It was a nice morning, about 50 degrees and sunny with a slight breeze. I hopped
into my Chevy truck to head to the restaurant. There were cars zipping around the town because
church had just gotten let out, and families were going to get food somewhere.
Through my personal experiences, I know that Freddie s is a popular place to go on a Sunday. The
owner s daughter, Stephanie Cannon, is my middle brother s girlfriend (also my broker), and she
worked at the restaurant on its busiest days. She explained to me that many families enjoy
gathering at Freddie s for a traditional breakfast after their church service is finished. She also
noted that Freddie s offers some of the best food for a great price. On certain Sundays, there is a
breakfast buffet that is extremely popular, and there s a wide variety of food offered at those
buffets. I also know the owners, Mark and Sue Cannon, very well because they are obviously
Stephanie s parents. Our families have been very close ever since I was a little kid, and we ve
eaten at Freddie s many times. During the summer when my brother and Steph are home, we eat
there occasionally. It s nice because we don t even have to pay.
I had to pick up my brother, Derek, and Steph from her house because they wanted to go to
breakfast while I observed. We arrived at the restaurant, and there were a lot of cars parked outside
the restaurant.

Disadvantages Of Ant Colony Optimization
Abstract In this paper an efficient hybrid optimization approach is used to solve the optimal power
flow problem. In the proposed approach particle swarm optimization along with ant colony
optimization is used for setting of control variables for optimal power flow problem. The proposed
approach is tested and examined in standard IEEE 30 bus test system. The various objective
functions involved are fuel cost minimization, voltage profile improvement and transmission loss
reduction. This proposed approach overcomes the disadvantages of ant colony optimizationsuch as
premature convergence and stagnating output. Keywords voltage stability; fuel cost; loss; optimal

ANT COLONY OPTIMIZATION Ant colony optimization (ACO) is an evolutionary and adaptive
algorithm that was introduced by Marco Dorigo in 1992.This ant colony optimization algorithm is
inspired by behavior of real ant colonies. The ant when searching food move in random
direction.Once the ant finds the food source,it evaluates the quantity and quality of food.It takes
certain amount of food to the nest.During this process, the ant deposits a chemical called
pheromone as a trail on the ground during the return path. The quantity of pheromone deposited is
based on the quantity and quality of the food available.HEnce this would guide other ants towards
the food providing an indirect communication. The pheromone trails allows the ants to identify the
shortest path between the ant nest and the food source. This above technique is used for optimization

  • 2. Descriptive Essay About Being Alone We are dark as the moonless night, yet just as bright; intense and mysterious as the forces that shaped us. Living in the shadows we fade from sight and mind, but we are always there, forever defending what is ours. Porous and jagged, we absorb or repel anything as well as anyone who seeks to oppose us. Whilst the ranks of our enemies dwindle over time we endure, unwavering in our determination. Alone we are weak, ineffective, and ultimately meaningless. Together we are strong, steadfast and spectacular in our simplicity. We as one eternally serve the greater purpose, all with the pride and patience only our kind possess. At first, we were one, mighty and strong, we were great, but without meaning in our existence, without scope or direction. Then, there was heat; blinding, raging heat stronger than even the forces that shaped us, it tore us apart. Shattered our very view of the world and separated us from one another. As suddenly as the groundbreaking warmth appeared it was gone, leaving me all alone in the bitter cold to fend for myself. For the first time I was on my own, my reality broken in an instant into a million tiny pieces; it was overwhelming and strange, yet stunning along with euphoric. In the beginning the silence was empty and lacking. After a lifetime of togetherness, the lonely feeling of isolation cut deep within me. To have a mind of my own was both invigorating and petrifying, thoughts echoing far enough in the vastness to be lost on their own ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Comparing Plato And Aristotle s View Of Democracy Like the best life, the best system of government is conducted in accordance with excellence. (Aristotle, N. Ethics 1295a 25) In terms of Democracy, Plato and Aristotle differ extensively. For instance, Plato considers Democracy as a fundamentally corrupted form of government, where the possession of power rests upon the will of the masses, which for Plato are incapable of achieving true knowledge. Conversely, Aristotle recognizes Democracy among the best forms of governance. However, he argues that democratic rule, if exercise in the form of Polity, will eventually lead society to pursue the best life. Moreover, for the purpose of this essay I will concentrate in analyzing Plato and Aristotle s works with respect to democracy in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (POL. 1297b 37) In addition, Aristotle and Plato fundamentally disagree in the conception of positive outcomes with democratic governance. Specifically, Aristotle argues that if and only if the majority exercises its power according to the rule of law, the majority s will is consider as valid, since only by following the principles of law a society can achieve the best life. (POL 1295a) Conversely, Plato clearly rejects the possibility of any positive consequence under democratic authority. Since according to him, the masses possession of political authority in a democracy appears to be the complete negation of social order and hierarchy. (REP. 556a 10) Third, there are two major aspects in which Plato and Aristotle criticize democratic freedom. For instance, Plato criticizes democracy mainly because he argues that the particular way in which a democratic government exercises freedom allows individuals to behave lawlessly; therefore living upon their desires. (REP 557a 5) In contrast, Aristotle recognizes two important elements of freedom in a democracy. First, he acknowledges as positive the fact that in a democracy freedom can be understood as the possibility of rule and being ruled in turn. (POL 1317a 40) Next, like Plato, Aristotle criticizes democracy based on the idea that for him, it symbolizes the rule of the majority that has the liberty to act without constrains. If the price on an elastic good or service rises, people react quickly not to buy it due to it being something they can do without. If the price on an inelastic good or service rises, people are not so quick not to buy it. They may cut some usage or consumption of it, but not as if they can do without. When I lived in Arizona, you can get a gallon of Reverse Osmosis water for $0.15 from a Reverse Osmosis water dispensing machine. There were other machines that would do the same thing, but they cost $0.25 a gallon. I was not too quick to buy from the $0.25 machines because I did not believe that I should have to pay more for good water. To me, this was an elastic good cause ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Green Symbolism In The Great Gatsby Looking Green, Old Sport Throughout literature, colors are used to represent feelings, emotions and actions of characters. In the novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, the color green is used to represent the love story between Jay Gatsby and Daisy Buchanan. As he grew up and worked for his immense fortune, Gatsby transformed his life into one he felt would impress her the most. Fitzgerald uses the color green to represent Gatsby s perfect image of Daisy, and the greed that engulfs the couple throughout the entire novel. Green often is used to represent a fresh start someone experiences after a large change, and the change could be due to a single individual. One day, Jordan tells Nick a memory of her walking along a green lawn when... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The iconic green light s meaning also changed for Gatsby. While he used to see the symbol of his love and hopes for Daisy in the green light, but now it occurred to him that the colossal significance of that light had now vanished forever, and Nick continues to describe that now it was a green light on a dock. His count of enchanted objects had diminished by one (93). For years Gatsby sought a change in his life, and he hoped the change would finally get the love of his life back, but the change he needed was to let himself begin to move on. Fitzgerald used green to show a new beginning, and now Gatsby was achieving his own. During October, Nick finally moves away from the Late Mr. Gatsby s home. In addition, Jordan tells Daisy life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall (118) during an earlier section in the novel. Autumn is the time of year when green leaves and grass fade to a yellow and brown to die, symbolizing the feeling Gatsby felt for Daisy dying along with him. The last time Gatsby was even seen was when he disappeared among the yellowing trees (161). His final moments were spent walking among green trees that were beginning to fade to yellow, like the way his perfect image of Daisy and his love for her faded as well. The color green became a symbol of a restart, like how Gatsby felt after he let himself begin to move on from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Texas Supreme Court Case Study Texas is unusual in its judiciary systems because there are two supreme courts; one handles criminal cases, while the other handles civil cases (Liberal Arts Instructional Technology Services, 2016). These courts are known as the Court of Criminal Appeals, and The Supreme Court of Texas; the first handling appeals from criminal cases throughout the state, and the latter having final jurisdiction in all civil cases and cases involving juveniles (Liberal Arts Instructional Technology Services, 2016). The only other state with a similar judiciary system is Oklahoma (Robison, 2008). The separate Supreme Courts were established over 100 years ago to lessen caseloads and the burden on the Supreme Court, and theoretically speed up the court process... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While they still have too many cases and get backed up, I think it would be much worse if it were one court having to hear all the cases, or the court would refuse to hear as many criminal appeals due to time constraints. If it assists the process even a little bit, then the separate courts meet their goal and can ultimately be considered a success. If I were to change anything, I would probably try to make a couple more branches of both courts in order to lessen the number of cases seen, even if it s only a little. More criminal cases could be reviewed that way, and more civil cases could be heard in a timely fashion. I think if there was one court that would see more controversial cases, two criminal appeals courts, and two civil cases courts, the workload could be lowered. Anything that allows more cases to be heard is important to our legal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Failure of the Post Civil War Reconstruction Period... After the North won the civil war, it was time to rebuild this nation. This period of reconstruction was supposed to have a profound change on society. Unfortunately this was not the case. Reconstruction did not fundamentally alter this nation. Not to say that nothing happened, but nothing that really made a change or difference happened. First, the control of the south was given right back to the planter elite. Also, even though slavery was abolished; blacks were not free. Finally, Congress and President Johnson could not get along. Although the civil war reshaped this country profoundly. They also called for any officials to swear an oath of allegiance to the union.2 After Lincoln s assassination, and Johnson s inaugeration these plans changed. Johnson pardoned all the southern leaders that were in trouble for seceding from the union. This effectively put them back in power in the South. Ultimately everything that congress and Lincoln had tried to do in the south. Taking back the power from those who seceded. As well as any help that was given to the poor whites or any blacks in the south was undone by Johnson. One of the biggest ways the reconstruction efforts failed was with giving equal rights to the black community. Although the slaves were freed it was very conditional freedom. The creation of Black codes made it seem like they were free. These codes made it possible for black families to remain intact. It also gave blacks the right to sue in court, and own property. This seems like progressive thinking at the time. The big problem with these codes is what they denied blacks. Blacks could not testify against whites. They could not own guns, or travel without permits. Although slavery had ended blacks were still being controlled. Without slaves to work in the fields the plantation owners needed workers. A lot of them would rent out their land to newly freed blacks. In exchange these poor blacks would have to give up 2/3 of their crop.3 The rest would be used to pay off their debts. This would ... The ozone layer is suffering severe damage from the gasses that are emitted from cars, factories, aerosol sprays and much more. Fossil fuels are the single largest of atmospheric pollution; when burnt, they release in the air particle matter, carbon monoxide and dioxide, oxides of nitrogen and sulfur, and metal compounds (Our Planet). According to the U.S. Department of Energy , In 1990, California s wind power plants offset the emission of more than 2.5 billion pounds of carbon dioxide, and 15 million pounds of other pollutants that would have otherwise been produced (Wind). However, there are concerns about the noise that is produced from the blades, and the fact that birds, or other small flying animals can fly into the blades and die. Another small issue with wind power is that it is often available only in remote or offshore locations. As a whole, these concerns are minimal compared to the benefits that can be reaped. Biomass is another great resource for producing electricity. Biomass is a matter usually thought of as garbage (Energy). It includes wood chips, crops, tires, dead trees, manure and much more. When garbage decomposes, it gives off methane gas (Energy). Pipelines are put into the landfills and the methane gas can be collected. It is then used in power plants to make electricity (Energy). An additional use of biomass is to produce ethanol. Ethanol can be used in special types of cars that are made for using alcohol fuel instead of gasoline. The alcohol can also be combined with gasoline. This reduces our dependence on oil a non renewable fossil fuel (Energy). Biomass is a renewable resource, because trees and plants can be replanted over and over, and used to produce fuel. Biomass fuels are used to meet the energy needs of nearly half the ... As portrayed in the book, the protagonist and other major characters are all females, suggesting self sufficiency. The author writes about the women being left by their husbands, but moves on, depicting male triviality. The female characters also develop their independence when they rely on each other during difficult times. The main character and other major characters receive very little help from men, which depicts their independence. • 12. Compare And Contrast Art And Renaissance Art When one ponders the significance of the artwork that was produced during the Renaissance, Baroque and Rococo stylistic periods, advancement in scientific understanding during these periods may seem to be nothing more than an afterthought. For centuries, the quest for scientific knowledge and understanding by the artisan community had been smothered by the Christian church who fulfilled the role of main patron of art during the Middle Ages. However, the 15th to 18th century experienced a turning point, not just creatively, but also in relation to artisans inculcating an every increasing scientific knowledge base into their creative works (The Art Institute of Chicago, 2003). The intent of this short essay is to illustrate how one work of art from each of the following stylistic periods demonstrated the deepening relationship between art and scientific knowledge: Renaissance, Baroque and Rococo. During the Renaissance, one of the most influential artists, Leonardo Da Vinci, embodied the spirit of the Renaissance due to his multifaceted expertise in numerous fields outside of art. Leonardo Da Vinci had a passion for scientific exploration, specifically relating to the anatomy and physiology (A P) of the human body (The Art Institute of Chicago, 2003). Da Vinci was passionate about learning as much as he possibly could about A P so that he can accurately and precisely portray the human body in his artwork (The Art Institute of Chicago, 2003). Numerous sketches have been found in the pages of Leonardo s journals with vividly detailed sketches of the skeletal system, muscular system, and organ systems of the human body. One work in particular entitled sketch of Uterus and Foetus brilliantly illustrates how Leonardo melded science and art. On first glance, the eye is immediately drawn to the detailed ... Though the NFL protest of kneeling during the Star Spangled Banner appears to be disrespectful at first glance, if one really takes the time to investigate the issue they will see it is a justifiable way to express their first amendment right. Kneeling is something people do when they pray to show great respect toward their heavenly father. However, when one person kneels during the National Anthem many people go and claim their actions are disrespectful without any knowledge of why they kneeled. Many believe that the kneeling is to show disrespect toward the country. Well, it s not. The protest is really just about those denying the most basic freedoms. According to Julius Peppers, this wasn t about disrespecting the military, disrespecting the flag, police, first responders, none of that, and those are the reasons people are thinking for why the players are protesting. When really according to SB Nation NFL, The players are simply protesting systemic oppression against people of color, police brutality, and the criminal justice system. The national anthem is just the vehicle for the protest. Meaning people of color just want equal rights and want to be treated like humans instead of animals. The animal would response. It would then be rewarded. The response is then learned. If the response was not rewarded then it would disappear over time. The animals would be placed into the puzzle boxes and would only be able to escape by making certain responses such as pushing a button. The experiment with the cats entailed placing a hungry cat into the puzzle box. He then observed its behaviour. The cat would try and escape in order to obtain food. The cat in most cases would act on a trial and error method. When the cat obtained the food the trial and error behaviour decreased and the cat soon learnt how to escape quickly. The learnt behaviour took time and did not improve quickly. The amount of time the cat spent in the box slowly shorted. Upon completion of his experiment Thorndike learnt that certain stimuli and responses became associated or dissociated from each other. He developed his law of effect. • 16. What Is The Theme Of Confinement In Bolary By Gustave... The confinement of females under mental and physical distress is the central theme in Gustave Flaubert s Madame Bovary, and Wilkie Collins The Woman in White. Flaubert s Emma Bovary is a narcissist whose self induced obsession with literature restricts her from having a happy fulfilling life, as nothing compares to the excitement and adventures she reads in her novels. While the plot of Wilkie Collins The Woman in White depicts the story of two women who are deceived and incarcerated in a private asylum. These asylums proliferated in the mid nineteenth century as alternatives to the established large scale public hospitals/asylums. This assignment will compare and contrast the methods used by both authors to define confinement, including structure, setting, narrative techniques and genre. When she went to confession, she made up little sins so as to stay there longer, kneeling in the shadows, her hands joined, her face against the screen beneath the whispering of the priest. The metaphors of the betrothed, the spouse, the celestial lover and the eternal marriage, such as recur in sermons, excited a strange sweetness deep in her soul (p34). Irony is another method Flaubert used to depict confinement. Thus, by ironically undercutting the romance in the novel with realism he satirically pokes fun at the bourgeoisie society. This is apparent when Emma throws her wedding bouquet into the fire to symbolize the end of her marriage, just before she becomes pregnant (). In her introduction to Madame Bovary, Roberts quotes, This subtle use of irony always leads Emma back to reality, that works against her vision and desire of things, it is this tense alternation of feeling, pathos and irony of intimacy and estrangement that make up the sweet and sour of Madame Bovary ... • 18. Anatomical And Structural Differences Between Arteries And... Briefly identify and discuss the anatomical and structural differences between arteries and veins. I found the differences between arteries and veins are their functions they provide to the heart as well as their structure. Arteries transfers blood away from the heart into the periphery resulting in the pressure of the blood in the arteries being high. Where as, the veins transfer blood towards the heart. Arteries carry oxygenated blood distributing it in the periphery as the pulmonary artery moves deoxygenated blood into the lungs for purification. The wall of an artery consists of three layers machining it thicker than veins. The elasticity within the layers of the muscle allows arteries to handle great pressures of blood within it. The thickest layer is known as tunica media as the other two are recognized as tunica externa, and tunica interna. The vein obtains blood from the periphery and carries it towards the heart. Veins are known to carry deoxygenated blood and transfers it the heart for purification. The pulmonary vein is known to carry oxygenated blood. However, there are semilunar valves found within the vein that does not allow retrograde flow of blood in preventing blood to flow in the opposite direction. Veins are thinner when compared to arteries consisting of thin elastic muscle layers with one thick layer being the tunica adventitia. Symbolism is important in our lives because if we recognize symbols and what they represent, it can help us to become a better person by letting us know what we need in our lives and how it helps us. I spent some time thinking about symbolism and here s what I came up with. The first five symbols I would like to address represent the activities that I like to do often. My first symbol would be a shoe because I m in cross country and I like to run because it teaches me perseverance and endurance. I like this because whenever I overcome an obstacle like a longer race or a harder practice, it makes me feel great about myself because of what I ve just done. Another symbol I feel describes me well would be the internet icon because I feel using the internet to create things allows you to do almost anything you want to. I ve been designing websites with increasing amounts of skill since sixth grade, all of which have been visited by other online traffic. This makes me feel good about myself because it shows that others are taking notice of my work! The third symbol I chose would be a BMX ramp because when I m not able to ride mountain bikes, I ride BMX. I ride BMX because it betters me as a mountain biker and lets me do things I wouldn t normally be able to do on a mountain bike. BMX bikes are different from mountain bikes in many ways. A critic stated that this poem was absolute poetry, by a pattern of words and images. This certain critic saw Thomas begin his writing toward the economy more (Knepper 2885). Thomas was not successful in this poem because it was too packed and fragmentary. He did not communicate his suffering and hope into the poem (Magill 54). The actor was three parts of three different stories, all in one tale. This poem also illustrates the legal system and religion. The birds and countryside played the role of human behavior. The Hill represented the Judge who sentenced humans to die. The bird was sentenced because it played too many tricks on other birds, in reality, other people. The Hawk acted as the executioner. It is estimated that there were 200,000 Persian soldiers versus Alexander s 45,000 (Plutarch). Alexander met Darius in the narrow pass of Issus where Darius could not use his greater numbers effectively (Wasson). Many of Alexander s soldiers thought it was unwise to attack the greater numbers of the Persian army. Alexander replied to them by saying On their side, more are standing, on ours, more will fight. Alexander and his army were able to win the battle by charging straight towards Darius causing him to flee (LiveScience). Alexander was able to continue his stand down into other countries in the Persian army, freeing their culture and continuing the spread of hellenism. Darius s army had lost 110,000 men at Issus. Darius did not want Alexander to take his Empire so he tried to bribe him. He offered Alexander half of his empire and half of his riches for Alexander to stop attacking. Alexander replied to them by saying, Come to me and thou shalt receive courtesy; but otherwise, I shall march at once against thee. (Plutarch). • 39. Eve s Apology In Defense Of Women By Salve Deus Rex Juadeorum In Eve s Apology in Defense of Women, an excerpt from Salve Deus Rex Juadeorum, Aemilia Lanyer uses biblical illusions such as the story of Eve eating the forbidden fruit, as well as satirical diction to convey a message of unjust attitudes toward the female gender. These attitudes express an imbalanced judgement of women in religious settings, a notion that would continue to be used not only when alluding to religion, but also in other everyday life events. Lanyer, however, uses this satirical language to argue that Eveis only to blame as much as the malecharacters in the story, Adam and Satan. Since being written in 1611, Salve Deus Rex Juadeorum has interested readers of all kinds due to its incredible use of feminist diction in several different poems and paragraphs, all of which are written by a young femaleauthor, Aemilia Lanyer. According to Subjectivity and Women s Poetry in Early Modern England by Lynette McGrath, Lanyer was trying to sway aristocratic dedicatees into a benevolent membership in a women s community by poetically invoking the attractive and idealized discourses of maternity, religion and women s nurturing love for each other (page 211). In Eve s Apology in Defense of Women the reader can recognize this heavy use of religious context to persuade her audience to grasp this idea of building a women s community via the unjust treatment reserved in the very first book of Genesis. Apart from being non renewable, these are also significant contributors of greenhouse gases to the environment leading to air, water and land pollution (Marland and Rotty 1984). EPBT depends on a number of factors: cell technology, type of encapsulation, frame and array support, module size efficiency, PV system application type (autonomous or grid connected) and, finally, PV system performance as determined by irradiation and the performance ratio. EPBT is also affected by factors that do not directly relate to the characteristics of the PV power system itself: conversion efficiency of the electricity supply system and energy requirements of materials like glass, aluminum etc. (Alsema 2000) In order to determine the EPBT of a photovoltaic system, it is very important to determine the total energy that is required to manufacture, install, transport and dispose the system as well as energy required for any other purpose during the life cycle of the system. We used to be able to find older vehicles that were still in good condition, the upholstery was in good condition, and there wasn t much wrong mechanically. About two years ago we started to notice the lack of maintenance and time people would actually put into their cars. From experience, a car will not run if not properly taken care of and serviced in the correct time frame. Normally when my husband and I get a vehicle we always start under the hood. First, check the oil. Without oil, people run the risk of seizing and locking up the engine and then it becomes a lot more expensive than just a few quarts of oil. Most people I have noticed, don t know how often to change their oil. When using regular blend oil, it should be changed around every 3,500 miles. When purchasing synthetic oil, which is used in most vehicles today drivers should change it around 7,000 miles. After checking the oil, we check the tire pressure to ensure the correct lbs. of pressure required for the type of tires and vehicle we have. ANT COLONY OPTIMIZATION Ant colony optimization (ACO) is an evolutionary and adaptive algorithm that was introduced by Marco Dorigo in 1992.This ant colony optimization algorithm is inspired by behavior of real ant colonies. The ant when searching food move in random direction.Once the ant finds the food source,it evaluates the quantity and quality of food.It takes certain amount of food to the nest.During this process, the ant deposits a chemical called pheromone as a trail on the ground during the return path. The quantity of pheromone deposited is based on the quantity and quality of the food available.HEnce this would guide other ants towards the food providing an indirect communication. The pheromone trails allows the ants to identify the shortest path between the ant nest and the food source. This above technique is used for optimization ...
