Rubber Ducky Research Paper
Rubber Duckies Lost at Sea
The famous Rubber Ducky has been a favorite bath toy for many babies. You may be surprised to
learn that some scientists are also interested in rubber ducks!
Each year many goods fall off of ships into the ocean. In 1992 there was a storm at sea with high
winds. As a result, a container of 29,000 rubber ducks fell into the ocean. The ducks were on their
way from Hong Kong to the United States. Since then, they have floated throughout the world.
People have reported finding them in Hawaii, Alaska, South America, Australia, and as far as
Scotland and Newfoundland. They even survived the freezing ice of the Arctic. These amazing
ducks have been named the Friendly Floaters.
Twelve years after the spill, ducks were still bobbing up on many beaches. There are still 2,000
Friendly Floaters in the North Pacific Gyre.( a swirl of ocean currents in the north Pacific Ocean) ...

Curtis Ebbesmeyer, an oceanographer, and other scientists have followed the journey of the ducks.
Their studies have helped them understand more about ocean currents. They also learned about
wave and wind patterns. Perhaps, more importantly, they now have more information regarding
plastic pollution in oceans.
The author Donovan Hohn said, Plastic Pollution is a real problem. He mentions in his book,
Moby Duck, finding a dead whale that had a stomach full of trash.
Finally, the rubber duck is not just a bath toy. Tracking the journeys of the rubber ducks has proved
valuable. It has provided useful information to scientist and oceanographers

The Mammalian Reving Reflection Of The Blood Pressure
Conclusion
The mammalian dive response causes the blood pressure to increase, heart rate to decrease, and
oxygen intake to increase in individuals after they have been submerged in cold water. In this study,
after water hit the trigeminal nerve behind the nose, the diving reflex caused peripheral
vasoconstriction and bradycardia to occur in the subjects. The vasoconstriction caused the blood
pressure to increase as the body attempted to concentrate more blood around heart, lungs and brain.
The bradycardia was a result of the body attempting to conserve oxygen by (Pantennon,2013).
expand bradycardia This response allows mammals to stay underwater longer, and it helps to
extend that organisms life span by overriding other reflexes such as taking an immediate breath
when suddenly exposed to water. If a mammal lacks the diving response, then it I smore likely that
they may drown because of their body not being able to properly respond to the lack of oxygen.
The reactions observed could have also been the result of either the body preparing for hypothermia
or simply responding to the cold water shock. Cold water shock is the body s response to being
suddenly exposed to cold water. Cold water shock also causes vasoconstriction by causing the
blood vessels in the skin to close; both increase the resistance of blood flow which increases blood
pressure. However, cold water shock causes the heart rate to increase, not decrease, as the
mammalian dive response does. The sudden

Outside The Box Thinker
Christopher Columbus, whom was born in 1451 in Geno, Italy, became to be known among
history s greatest explorers . He was a son of a weaver and started sailing as a teenager. In the
year 1492, he set off to begin his first voyage to establish an oceanic trade route between Europe
and the Eastern Indies. However, instead of reaching any Asian countries he had landed in a
place that he called San Salvador . Nonetheless by the end of his sailing career, he had
accomplished 4 voyages to establish a settlement across the Atlantic Ocean and sailed to various
other parts of the globe establishing territory for the Crown of Castille. I believe Columbus is a
perfect example of an outside the box thinker because he sought to complete something... Show

1827. Another example of an excellent outside the box thinker is Beethoven. By the end of his
life, he had developed 67 compositions some of which he made near complete deafness. It is
also said his best influential works comes from the last 15 years of his lifetime. Constantine The

Rome by 324AD. As Rome s sole leader, he began many reforms to further develop the growth of
the empire, became the first emperor to convert to Christianity, and reorganized his own military.

Objectives Of The Operation Andreas
German Nazis developed the Operation Bernhard during the Second World War, as a continuation
of the so called Operation Andreas. The goal of both operations was to flood the UK with
counterfeit notes to provoke a shock effect in UK economy in both national and international scale.
The experience of Germany in the inter war period served as an example of the devastating effects
of hyperinflation in an economy. The plan focused on the printing of counterfeit notes with the
largest number in circulation, ВЈ5, ВЈ10, ВЈ20, and ВЈ50. It also contemplated the production of
US dollars but in a lesser extent because of technical difficulties.
Operation Bernhard started in 1942 when Himmler revived the operation and assigned the mission
to Bernhard KrГјger, an SS Major. KrГјger purpose was to improve Operation Andreas to make it
more efficient. He moved the production centre to the Sachsenhausen concentration camp, near
Berlin, and employed Jewish prisoners to produce counterfeit British notes. Around 142 Jewish
were part of the operation, being isolated from the rest of the camp to avoid the spread of any
detail about the mission. This group of prisoners managed to reproduce almost perfectly the British
pounds, producing between ВЈ132 million and ВЈ300 million. Among the different ways of
distribution, Germany opted for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The German Nazis in charge of the operation proposed different options for the distribution. The
first one, also mentioned in the prior operation (Op. Andreas) was to drop the money from
aircrafts directly over UK soil. The idea was that most of the people would remain the money from
themselves instead of giving it back to the Bank of England. However, German aircraft force was
not big enough to cover the necessities of the operation besides the war. As well, Germany had not
control over British airspace, so it supposed a high risk

Obasan and Poh-Poh Essay
Oftentimes when reading fictional texts with similar themes, readers will find themselves
encountering similar characters. In the realm of modern literature, elderly Asian women are often
portrayed with many similarities; they are seen as protective, caring people who possess great
wisdom. Ayako Nakane, also known as Obasan, the title character of Joy Kogawa s Obasan, and
the character Poh Poh in Wayson Choys novelThe Jade Peony, are very similar in this regard. Both
Obasan and Poh Poh drive forwards their respective narratives with their strong personalities. They
have each suffered through troublesome pasts and as a result have become very wise. Obasan and
Poh Poh share many similarities but they also have their differences. Both women... Show more

Even when her husband passes away, she does not break down into hysteria; she grieves quietly:
The language of her grief is silence... Over the years, silence within her small body has grown
large and powerful (Kogawa, 14). Despite her lack of words, Obasan is a source of love and
steadfast support for her niece Naomi and her nephew Stephen. When their parents disappear,
Obasan steps in, never hesitating to bear the weight of caring for the abandoned children. She
feeds them, clothes them, and ensures their well being under impossible circumstances. Her
commitment to them never falters, even when they neglect her. Stephen repeatedly treats Obasan
with impatience and rudeness. Regardless, Obasan constantly puts the needs of others before her
own. Her actions are aimed at making the people around her happy. Obasan does everything in
her power to ensure that her niece and nephew find a place for themselves in the world and Naomi
takes comfort in her gentleness and dependability. Despite her silence, Obasan is a focal point of
the narrative and at the center of the main character Naomi s life.
In Wayson Choy s The Jade Peony, Poh Poh is also a driving force of the narrative. The story is
separated into three segments; each segment tells a story from the perspective of a different
sibling. The siblings are Poh Poh s grandchildren. Poh Poh is a crucial element of all three stories.
She forms a bond with each child that helps them develop and she is a key

Kurt Cobain ( 1967-1994 ) Essay
Kurt Cobain (1967 1994) was one of the most inventive and ingenious musicians not only in the
1990s but in all of the twentieth century. He was the lead singer and guitarist for the grunge rock
band Nirvana from 1987 to his death in 1994. Along with bassist Krist Novoselic and drummer
Dave Grohl (who was the band s third and final drummer) changed the concepts of hard rock,
punk, and heavy metal: and brought it to mainstream media. Before his rise to fame, Cobain had
a rough childhood from his parents divorcing to being bullied in school. According to
Biography.com: He[Cobain] excelled at drawing, so much so that his talents were even
apparent in kindergarten. He also learned to play piano by ear and enjoyed a kiddie drum kit his
parents had given him. ...After his parents divorced when he was nine, Cobain became
withdrawn. He went to live with his father after the divorce. On the weekends, he would visit his
mother and his sister. When his father remarried, Cobain resented his stepmother Jenny and her
two children. One of the bright spots of this difficult time was a present he received from his
uncle Chuck a guitar. Although the instrument was fairly beat up, it inspired Cobain to learn to
play and it offered him a respite from his unhappiness at home. Alienated and angry, he believed
that his father always took his stepmother s side and favored her children and his half brother Chad
who had been born in 1979. Cobain began experimenting with drugs in his mid teens, and

The Schutz Marke Wall Clock
A treasured time piece in transition to family heirloom. The Schutz Marke Wall Clock is a unique
blend of art and furniture and is characteristic of the German craftsmanship of the 19th century
and stopped production after 1932. Ironically, Louise Pearson (my great grandmother) purchased
this clock in 1932. The picturesque style of this brand of clocks makes it a centerpiece in the
home, as many have them hanging in their home to this day. Regulator clocks, sometimes referred
to as pendulum clocks, were invented in the late 18th century in a quest for greater timekeeping
accuracy (. This is a culturally symbolic timepiece and its character is more enhanced as it is no
longer crafted by Schutz Marke. Many have the clocks hanging on their walls, even without that
special meaning they hold for some. My grandmother perceives this as both functional and symbolic
of her relationship with her mother and the meaning it held for her, and that is why she has one.
The intricate details along the sides and in the hands themselves is amazing. There are many types
of clocks made and manufactured but the Antique Schutz Marke German Vienna wall clockis a
classic a strikingly magnificent work of art. The importance of this artifact is that the details tell
the craftmaker s story from the time period it was created. Its craftsmanship is just one aspect of its
significance, as this time piece brings that connection from past, present, and future for a family.

Dyer County And The Towns
Dyer County and the towns that comprise it all have a rich history, and each town in the county has
its own beginnings that have resulted in how they are today. Dyer County currently encompasses
the three major towns of Dyersburg, Newbern, Trimble, and their surrounding villages. The
following will give brief histories of the major towns of Dyer County, the development of industry,
and the history of some of the smaller regions of the county, including my home area of Bonicord.

Rutherford, a relative of one of the founders of Key Corner. However, like most southern
counties, Dyer County s main means of production was farming, and the timber industry. The
county s main crops were corn and tobacco, but later king cotton took over as the main crop. By
the early 1920s, Dyer County s timber resources were depleted. That left the Dyersburg Cotton
Products, Incorporated as the largest industry by 1929. Today, in Dyer County, there are many
factories and more urban infrastructure, but outside the major towns it is still rural farmland with
small communities, such as Finley and RoEllen. Dyer County was also involved in the Mexican
American War and the Civil War. During the Mexican American War, a volunteer company was
organized in Dyer County and it was the only county in west Tennessee to have any volunteers, so
it was represented as the county instead of the state. During the Civil War, Dyer County, had
many regiments formed in the county, but it never had any prolonged Confederate or Union
camps. Dyer County also had a Confederate brigadier general named, Otho F. Strahl, who was
killed in the Battle of Franklin. After the Civil War, Dyer County was one of the counties on west
Tennessee marked as a hotspot for KKK activity. Dyersburg is the largest town in Dyer County, and
where most of the industry and development has taken place since the county s creation. Dyersburg

Social And Cultural Change Prompted
Social and Cultural Change Prompted by Technology
Textile, steam, and metallurgy based innovations amounted to a legacy in Britain and a precedent
for future industrial revolutions for other countries. As urbanization became a phenomenon in
Britain, people migrated to the city centers in an effort to find employment and waged labor. New
technological advancements, during Britain s Industrial Revolution, prompted change in society
and culture. The increased demand for British goods resulted in merchants needed more cost
effective methods of production, which led to the rise of mechanization and the factory system.
The separation of social classes and labor was one major effect of the inventions. Also, women and
children were the new solution for long, hard hours and lower pay. Cultural changes were a direct
result of this increase in technological developments, reshaping familial relations and daily life,
while leaving an agriculturally based culture.
The most important change in society and societal views, that resulted from new technology in
everyday life, was a larger separation in classes and wages. As technology emerged, a new class
system followed. Before the industrial revolution, the average lifespan was higher, the economy
was stimulated by agriculture, and, above all, there was little division in social class and labor. With
small scale productions, the agricultural sector was self sufficient. However, as more people
flocked to the cities in search of employment in

The Victorian Era Exposed In Dracula By Bram Stoker
The Victorian Era is regarded as very impactful time in terms of literature. It incorporated the
elements of Gothic principles such as isolation, fascination of the past, and decay. All of the listed
characteristics appear in the infamous novel Dracula and play a significant role in how the book is
transcribed. But perhaps the most significant attribute would be the concept of othering or
foreigners. In Bram Stokers Dracula, Stoker provides a thorough perspective in to the British fear of
the other. He utilizes the main character, Dracula, to convey how society portrays foreigners or
immigrants as aggressors. Dracula highlights the British fear of the other and all that is foreign. He
comes from somewhere other than England, Transylvania, to symbolize his exclusion from society
and to represent his status as an immigrant. Dracula also does not have anything in common with
the Transylvanian citizens. They also express a great deal of superstition about Dracula when
Jonathan Harker arrives. When I asked him if he knew Count Dracula, and could tell me anything
of his castle, both he and his wife crossed themselves, and, saying that they knew nothing at all,
simply refused to speak further (Stoker 7).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Transylvania was mainly inhabited by people who believed in fallacy and illusion. In comparison,
England had a rational way of thinking and often denounced anything that was considered
supernatural. This directly correlates with Dr. Seward s frustration with Van Helsing. Dr. Seward
refuses to believe that Lucy is undead and assumes that Van Helsing is crazy. Good God,
Professor! I said, starting up. Do you mean to tell me that Lucy was bitten by such a bat, and that
such a thing is here in London in the nineteenth century? (Stoker

Social Inequality in Elderly Americans
Social Inequality in Elderly Americans
Elderly people (women and men age sixty five or older) (Macionis, 2005), Have many obstacles
to face as they grow older, many of these obstacles involve social inequality. Not only do the
elderly have to learn to deal with many forms of Ageism (the stereotyping and prejudice against
individuals or groups because of their age), some also have to deal with the fact that they do not
have enough savings or pension benefits to be self supporting, for most people over sixty five, the
major source of income is social security (Macionis, 2005). This forces many elderly Americans

Choosing a long term care facility can be very difficult because of incidents of abuse and/or
neglect reported against care facilities can be overwhelming. For example in Ending Elder
Abuse: A family guide , Diane Sandell lists many elder abuse incidents from her files such as:
neglect of decubitis ulcers led to infection, sepsis, gangrene, and death. Facility failed to provide
necessary diabetic diet; improper insulin administration, insulin overdose; dehydration and
death. Resident left alone in chair in shower room fell, became paralyzed from neck down.
Many reports of pinching, rough handling, slapping, yelling, threats (2000). It is believed that
abuse is most likely to occur if the caregiver not only finds the work difficult but also (1) works
full time, (2) cares for young children, (3) is poor, (4) feels little affection for the older person,
(5) finds the elderly person very difficult, and (6) gets no support or help from others (Macionis,
2005). Although there is no excuse for abusing elderly Americans, it is still very prominent in
today s society. Diane Sandell explains in Ending Elder Abuse, that her 91 year old mother was
beaten by a long term care facility employee in the middle of the night for reasons unknown. It is
stated that her mother died 6 weeks after the incident, unable to recover mentally from the abuse
(2000).
In conclusion, elderly Americans face many obstacles as they grow in age, such as ageism,
workforce discrimination, poverty,

Abraham Lincoln s Emancipation Proclamation
The Emancipation Proclamation
Although Abraham Lincoln produced numerous timeless events in the history of the United States
of America, perhaps none more effective as the Emancipation Proclamation. The innovative and
impactful Emancipation Proclamation consisted of two executive orders issued by President
Lincoln. The first order was issued on September 22, 1862 and gave freedom to all slaves in the
Confederate States of America that did not return to Union control by January 1, 1863. One
hundred days later, the second order was issued on January 1, 1863, this order was more
descriptive and named specific states (Klos, 2014).
Today Abraham Lincolns Emancipation Proclamation is viewed and favored as the Government s
first major step in the abolition of slavery. It is also considered the first real addition to Thomas
Jefferson s vision of equality outlined in the Declaration of Independence. However, the immediate
reaction when the preliminary Proclamation was released was that of both praise and
condemnation. Abolitionists viewed the Proclamation as weak, while Democrats and Southerners
saw it as groundbreaking and aggressive. Other than the order itself, the manner in which it was
released was a political and national powder keg (Girardi, 2013).
The first executive order came five days after the bloodiest single day of the Civil War, the Battle
of Antietam. However, this was not the beginning of the use of slavery as a war tool for numerous
reasons. In the

Hurricane Andrew Research Paper
Hurricane Andrew is a storm that destroyed South Florida, and the Bahamas, and ripped through
Louisiana, costing as much as 26 billion dollars.
Hurricane Andrew was formed of the west coast of Africa on August 14. When it passed the
Caribbean, the pressure system made it stronger. From there, the wave moved the storm to the
North Atlantic. People had started to leave the area right before the Hurricane started. Schools and
businesses were shut down, it hit Dale County Florida at 5:00 a.m. August 24, and it was high tide
when the waves hit. There was weird lightning streaks of blue greenish colors, and thick streams of
water. Some people said it sounded like bombs were going off. Roofs were no longer to be seen
and windows were broke glass everywhere. The waves surges were up to twelve feet high. High

The waves were still high at 10 feet. The power started going out when the storm was about 40
miles from land and 1.4 million people were without power (Provenzo JR. Provenzo, 2002). It
slammed into the Bahamas at 120 mph. Where buildings were toppled, bungalows out from their
roots, and luxury hotels only had broken winds (Longshore, 1998). Several days before it had
produced a deep convection, that had high pressure (Rappaport, 1993). On August 26, the storm
was getting weaker everyday. A cold front was moving east and downgraded the storm to tropical.
Soon when the Hurricane got to Pennsylvania, the storm faded away. Some people tried to
dismantle their houses to see what was left (Sherrow, 1998). After the storm over, 11 inches of rain
had fallen in Louisiana, and 7 inches in Mississippi (Rappaport, 1998). 275 small planes were no

Benefits Of Co-Production In Canada
There is a wide range of benefits that a production company can advantage from when it comes to
small scale production, and/or following a path of co production. It can stretch from communal
nature to having more artistic independency on a project to financial management. The Journals of
Knud Rasmussen, a film made by an Inuitproduction company presents these advantages. By using
this approach these production companies have more accessibility, and international success. This
film acts as a prime example to why films made in Canada can benefit from small scale production,

The smaller crews allow for the rotation of roles, a closer intimate crew, and democratic decision
over the direction of the project. In larger scale production there is higher demands from outside

there has been an increase in the opportunity of co production due to the demand for new
indigenous films, and television content. It is the new markets for this media that has opened up
this opportunity, and the use of new media in ways of distribution technologies, and sophisticated
digital production . These kinds of productions have an ease of technology, and allows for the
distribution to be international. This film shows the advantage of having a small scale crew unit,

a small scale production the need for specialists for a particular task is not required, instead the
smaller crew works collectively to put it all together. Although the filmmaker retains majority of the

ABSTRACT:
Air pollution is one of the major problems in the world. It is influenced by four major factors, such
as industrialization in the cities, increase in traffic, rapid economic development, and higher level
of energy consumption. The growth of both an industrial and residential area is unplanned in many
developing cities of India, thus, it contributing to the air pollution problems. In urban areas, the
mobile or vehicular population is predominant and significantly contributes to air quality problems.
In recent past, air pollutants, responsible for vegetation injury and crop yield losses, are causing
increased concern. Air pollution is one of the serious problems in the world, its facing today. It
deteriorates ecological condition and can be defined as the fluctuation in any atmospheric
constituent from the value that would have existed without human activity .It has been observed
that plants particularly growing in the urban areas affected greatly due to varieties of pollutants

Surprisingly for such a religious boy, Pi admires atheists. To him, the important thing is to
believe in something, and Pi can appreciate an atheist s ability to believe in the absence of God
with no concrete proof of that absence. Pi has nothing but disdain, however, for agnostics, who
claim that it is impossible to know either way, and who therefore refrain from making a definitive
statement on the question of God. Pi sees this as evidence of a shameful lack of imagination. To
him, agnostics who cannot make a leap of faith in either direction are like listeners who cannot
appreciate the non literal truth a fictional story might provide.
Belief in God is clearly a major theme in Life of Pi. Throughout the novel, Pi makes his belief in
and love of God clear it is a love profound enough that he can transcend the classical divisions of
religion, and worship as a Hindu, Muslim, and Christian. Pi, although amazed by the possibility
of lacking this belief, still respects the atheist, because he sees him as a kind of believer. Pi s
vision of an atheist on his death bed makes it clear that he assumes the atheist s form of belief is
one in God, without his realizing it until the end. It is the agnostic that truly bothers Pi; the
decision to doubt, to lack belief in anything, is to him inexcusable. This is underscored in that
essential passage in the novel when Pi asks the Japanese officials

Toys R Us Sold Essay
Toys R Us is the world s largest children s specialty retailer. The company operates toy stores
throughout the world and is publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange. In this paper I
will give a brief company history, cite where the competitive environment is coming from,
strategies that were attempted, and where they stand today. Toys R Us founder Charles Lazarus
opened the first Toys R Us store in Rockville in 1957. The company went public in 1978 and
evolved into a powerful international toy vendor, with Kids R Us, Babies R Us and Toyrus.com. It

The 1990s, however, have been characterized by increased competition and an erosion of the
company s market share. This has been reflected in the stock s performance, which has been
lackluster during the early and mid 1990s. Toys R Us began to struggle with fierce competition.
The discounters had made it a price game which Toys R Us could not compete in. Other large
toy chains have suffered even more. FAO Schwartz Inc. and KB Toys Inc. have filed for Chapter
11 bankruptcy protection, both citing competition from discounters. Toys R US came to the
realization that it may have to sell off its toy business. Before small toy retailers feared Wal
Mart, Toys R Us used low prices and wide selection to wipe out hundreds of specialty stores
throughout the 1960s and 1970s. Now competition from discounters Wal Mart and Target Corp.
has left Toys R Us struggling for profit and searching for ways to cut costs. The chain s profits
began to fall and sales have remained flat. Toys R Us financial troubles are not new. As part of a
broad reorganization, the Wayne, N.J. company, who at one time was the nation s second
biggest toy retailer, decided to close their Kids R Us stores and sell of its Imaginarium stores,
which sell educational products and be left with Toys R Us and Babies R Us. By doing this Toys
R Us has planned that over the next year it would reduce operating expenses and cut capital
spending. In addition, it planned to mark down prices

Treblinka Extermination Camp
An extermination camp in Poland built in 1942 in addition to the pre existing labor camp that
killed over 900,000 prisoners. It served as a Nazi killing center for deported citizens from ghettos
and other camps that became overpopulated. It was a specifically chosen location due to it s an
environment it was able to conceal the murders.
In the spring of 1942 Treblinka a mass execution facility was operational. The camp was
carefully selected to obscure from the nearest city. It was located in North Eastern region of the
Generalgouvernement near Malkinia Gora Poland. The area was within a heavy woodland not
exposing the countless murders that had taken place. The camp was built by German construction
firms out of available resources from the wood. Primarily, the workers building the death camp
were Jews brought in trucks from local neighborhoods. A track was later constructed for the
arrivals of deportees and the shipping of the Jews belongings. The camp s first commander was

Atomic Blonde Film Analysis
How much is one incredible, potentially all time great action scene worth to you? Would that be
full price, say $15 $20? Maybe a matinee in the range of $7 $10? VOD for $5? A trip to the
RedBox for $2?
While I do not intend to marginalize Atomic Blonde down to one distinct moment, all my thoughts
gravitate to one place. That scene. Oh my gosh, that scene.
And we will talk about that scene more in a moment. What you find with Atomic Blonde, director
David Leitch s first credited feature as director (after uncredited work on 2014 s John Wick), is an
often entertaining, messy, and unnecessarily complicated story featuring Charlize Theron ruling the
screen in an impressive, go for broke performance, introducing Lorraine Broughton as the
centerpiece to a potential new franchise for the Oscar winning actress.
To be fair, Atomic Blonde is more than an almost ten minute action sequence where Theron
dispatches a number of henchmen with incredible precision, in an apartment building and stairwell,
with no visible edits, in a single take brawl that finds Theron doing all her own fight choreography,
and...you know what...
Not yet. Sorry. Got ahead of myself.
Atomic Blonde tells the story of Broughton, an MI6 agent brought back to London from Berlin,
under interrogation by her boss (Toby Jones) and an American C.I.A. operative (John Goodman).
Each hold a keen interest in the events surrounding her, another Berlin based agent named David
Percival (James McAvoy), and The List , a

A Christmas Prince Analysis
A Christmas Prince is a holiday fairy tale with a picturesque mythical mountain kingdom, Christmas
violins, a shimmering castle ball, and horses prancing through the snow. A smart and beautiful but
mildly dishonest heroine and a handsome prince complete the picture. It s a familiar story, but has
enough charm and even a few twists to add a little bitof suspense. Other than a brief moment with
a menacing wolf and a fall from a horse, there s no jeopardy and no real suspense. The movie is
filled with wholesome messages about staying true to oneself and listening to your heart.
In A ChristmasPrince , the European Kingdom of Aldovia, still mourning the death of its beloved
king, is expecting an important decision from their young heir in waiting. Will Prince Richard
(Ben Lamb) assume his father s throne, or will he choose to remain the playboy and ne er do
well he seems to be? Richard s decision is to be announced at the annual Christmas Eve ball. We
learn from this a regards of how media can say lot of untruth things about you to put you down but
yet get money or fem out of it. Amber (Rose McIver), a fledgling American magazine journalist
who has never covered such an event on her own, is overjoyed when she s assigned the Aldovian
story. Unfortunately, when Amber arrives at the palace she learns that reporters have been banned
from the proceedings. Only a chance case of mistaken identity gets Amber into the family s
chambers.

The Case Of Roe V. Wade
On January 23, 1973, the landmark case Roe v. Wade established a new law that would change
women s rights for years to come. This controversial case made it legal to have an abortion,
which made it safer for women around the country. In 1972, a year before Roe v. Wade, there
were approximately 587,000 illegal abortions performed (Roe v. Wade). These abortions were
highly dangerous because they lacked medical equipment and a trained professional. In some
instances, the mother could even die from the procedure. As a feminist, I believe women should
have the right to their own body and therefore I believe the government should keep the decision
of Roe v. Wade. In this paper, I will discuss the court case of Roe v. Wade, personal stories of

However, the Act does not cover medicine for a safe abortion. Businesses who provide
healthcare to their employees have purposely not included women s reproductive health because
of their views on abortion. If the owner or manager doesn t believe in abortion, they are more
likely not to include women s reproductive health on their health care, even though abortions are
not covered in the Act (Roe v. Wade and its Effects of Society). This means that female workers
are not provided with medical care they need because their manager disagrees with a choice not
provided in the Act that gives women basic health needs. To me, health care should be a right,
and not giving it to your employers because of your views is unconstitutional. If having an
abortion is legal, why does the government not cover it in health acts? Even 37 years later,
abortion is still a taboo subject that rears its ugly head in politics. Before abortions were legalized
in 1973, many women put it upon themselves to get rid of an unwanted pregnancy. Any illegal
abortion performed was a dangerous decision made by the mother. During the 1950 s an estimated
200,000 abortions took place illegally (The Impact of Illegal Abortion). There are many health risks
with having an illegal abortion including: severe bleeding, abdominal trauma, rupturing of the
uterus, and in some cases, even death. In 1972, a

The And Its Effects On The Human Brain
Introduction
Over the last hundred years much was learned about the localisation of function in the human brain
than ever before. Gall and his followers through the trials of phrenology started investigating the
functions of the brain but soon that was replaced by the by solid neuroscientific evidence from
experiments in other animals (Kringebach Rolls, 2004). However, even with the the evolution of
human neuroimaging over the last 15 20 years, still some researchers use this technique in a way
that resembles a kind of modern day phrenology (Kringebach Rolls, 2004). Furthermore, it is of
vital importance to be aware of the fact that these interesting pictures of the brain can potentially
mislead us if not interpreting them based on the wealth of scientific evidence gained by diverse and
various methods from both humans and other animals(Kringebach Rolls, 2004).
According to Cavada Schzult s (2004) orbitofrontal cortex is one of the least explored and least
understood regions of the primate cerebral cortex, a part of the frontal lobe that lies on the top of the
orbit. Classic clinical evidence proposes that the orbitofrontal cortex is engaged in critical human
operations, such as social integration and the regulation of emotional states, drive and
responsibility, and generally traits that are vital in shaping the personality of an individual.
Kringebach and Rolls (2004) argues that the orbitofrontal cortex can be used in various ways as a
good model of how

Chagas Disease
Nature History of the disease Chagas disease, also known as American Trypanosomiasis, is a
tropical disease caused by the parasite Trypanosoma cruzi, transmitted to humans through contact
with the feces of an infected triatomine bug. The triatomine bug known as the kissing bug is a
subspecies of the Reduviidae family. The bug itself does not cause the disease. Through contact
with the fecal matter from the kissing bug, which is excreted near the bite wound, the parasite
enters the bloodstream and begins to develop and reproduce. Chagas disease was discovered and
named after a Brazilian physician Carlos Chagas, who discovered the disease in 1909. Chagas

It is used in the same way that people who belong to a national, cultural or religious group would

Fairnelli Characteristics Of The Baroque Period
When thinking about the Baroque period, people tend to only associate it with instrumentalists and
composers such as Johann Sebastian Bach, George Fredrich Handel and Antonio Vivaldi.
However, in addition to such instrumentalist and composers, there are some great vocalists who
represent the Baroque period but are not widely recognized today. Carlo Maria Michelangelo
Nicola Broschi, who is better know by his stage name, Farinelli, is an Italian vocalist of the 18th

While Fairnelli was still a student, his father died unexpectedly at the age of 36, which led his
family in great poverty. In order to maintain economic security and to become the greatest singer
of all time, Fairnelli decided to castrate. As a result, Farinelli was able to keep his powerful male
voice that allowed him to sing any range of voice parts in opera, including high pitched soprano
parts. Shortly after Farinelli s first few public performances, he became popular in many cities as a
young talented singer. In addition to singing, Farinelli was a harpsichordist and a composer. He
composed several cantatas and arias, including the famous piece, Ossequiosissimo ringraziamento,
which he also wrote the lyrics. Therefore, even though Farinelli focused on his vocal the most, he
was a gifted musician in all parts.
Just like most of the talented musicians who begin their careers at young age, Farinelli

Theologians such as have also offered definitions of theology which wholeheartedly embrace this
idea. John Frame has defined theology as: the application of the Word of Godby persons to all areas
of life 7 This idea of whole life application has an impact upon our thought/orthodoxy, our action

gives primacy to the authority of Scripture. Within the reformed perspective, primacy is given to
scripture as the rule for faith and life .10Frost and Hirsch assert that orthodoxy right belief is an
indispensable element of any Christian discipleship. It is evident the church frequently sees
orthodoxy in the narrow sense, as a commitment to propositional truth, assuming that the

to be balanced by orthopraxy and orthopathy in order for the believer to come to a full orbed,

Role of Culture and Ikea
Introduction Company Background
IKEA furnitures, privately held, international, low cost home products are an inevitable part of
interior furnishings at many houses in the world. IKEA furnitures are marked for its modern
utilitarian design. The company has 260 retail outlets around the world and more new stores are on
the line to be opened in 2008 (Dhanyasree, 2007).
IKEA was founded in 1943 by a 17 year old Ingvar Kamprad in Smaland, south of Sweden. IKEA
formed its name from the founder s initials (I.K.) plus the first letters of Elmtaryd and Agunnaryd,

IKEA wants its coworkers to feel important so that they will be able to express their ideas and
feel responsible for improving the way things are done (Larsson, Brousseau, Driver, Holmqvist
Tarnovskaya, 2003). For example, on opening day of the original Stockholm store, the warehouse
could not cope with the rush of customers. The store manager suggested that they be allowed to go
into the warehouse to pick up their purchases. The result was so successful that future warehouses
were designed to allow self selection by customers, resulting in cost savings and faster service
(Bartlett Nanda, 1996).
Because it had such a strong and unique culture, IKEA preferred not to recruit those who had
already been immersed in another cultural stream. Nor was higher education necessary or even
advantageous in IKEA. The Stockholm raised, highly educated, status oriented individuals often

company. We can develop them quickly by delegating responsibilities early, rotating them
frequently, and offering rapid promotions to the high performers (Bartlett Nanda, 1996).

Why the Range of Indicators Used to Measure Development...
Why the Range of Indicators Used to Measure Development Has Increased in Recent Years
Essentially the ideology of development was based on a countries GNP this was down to Rostow
s Model; therefore the only indicator of development was a countries economy. The ideologies
have changed and now there are a range of indicators that are used to classify a countries
development such as social, demographic, hence including quality of life this gives the ideology of
development a more multi dimensional view thus a better understand of what a developed country
is.
There are three categories that are used to measure development they are economic, social and
demographic. Some economic factors used to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Other limitations in using GNP is that it needs to measure by a currency and with currencies
always changing figures can become less accurate. Also in LEDC s figures are less accurate and
a lot of business is done within the informal sector thus leaving GNP figures very unreliable. It
also does not take into account the cost of living is different depending on countries for example
10 dollars in and LEDC will buy a person a lot more than what it would buy you in America. GNP
s frequent use suggest that development is only based on a countries wealth, where as this not true
because development is multi dimensional process. The other economic factors such as better
transport link and energy consumption tie in well with GNP and make using a countries economy
more useful in considering if a country is developed or not.
Some social indictors of development include the adult literacy rate, incidence of doctors and
access to a clean water supply. Adult literacy rates are good measure of development because it
shows the countries population who have access to education, with people able to communicate in
other ways rather than word of mouth enhances the chance of employment. Also one can compare

The Role of Sight, Scent, and Sound by the White-tailed Deer
Use and relative role of sight, scent, and sound by white tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) to
locate and select between different types of foods
Introduction
The foraging habits of white tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus; hereafter deer) have been
extensively researched. Studies have evaluated seasonal influence as well as other environmental
influences on forage selection by deer (Moen 1981, Rogers et al. 1981, McCullough 1985, and
others). However, no such research has ever tested to determine what senses deer use to locate and
select between different food types or the relative importance of each sense involved in that
process. We are missing much of the basic knowledge of physiology and anatomy related to the
sensory capabilities of deer (D Angelo et al. 2006). Information from this type of research is
becoming increasingly important to wildlife biologists, as they can use it to improve other forage
selection studies aimed at reducing crop depredation or other wildlife damage. So little is known
about the role of sight, smell, and sound in deer ability to locate and select between forage types,
therefore quantitative information in this area of research needs further attention (Sayre et al.
1992). By understanding the importance of each sense in the location and selection of different
food types by deer, new studies can be set up that focus on the most important sense, while also
considering what effects the other senses have on their behavior. As

Great Words In The Great Dictator, By Charlie Chaplin
Great words spoken by a truly great man in his speech from The Great Dictator. Charlie Chaplin
expressed a single idea that summed up a single and painful period in history, We all think too
much and feel too little. As much as people expected from me I can t help but wonder what it
would have been like to grow up during the timethat the streets were filled with the sound of
swing. A moment of time where I could escape to and feel free from my burdens that weigh heavy
on my shoulders. This is a place that I can think about to avoid the scar that covers most of my heart.

Poverty and Children Education In this time and age the United States contains a high number of
students in the public schools who are under the poverty line. Poverty is defined as the state of
being really poor financially. Poverty in the United States has become a complicated problem that

Compare William Shakespeare’s Sonnets 12 and 73 Essay
Compare William Shakespeare s Sonnets 12 and 73
William Shakespeare (1564 1616) wrote a group of 154 sonnets between
1592 and 1597, which were compiled and published under the title
Shakespeare s Sonnets in 1609. The 154 poems are divided into two groups, a larger set, consisting
of sonnets 1 126 which are addressed by the poet to a dear young man, the smaller group of sonnets
127 154 address another persona, a dark lady . The larger set of sonnets display a deliberate
sequence, a sonnet cycle akin to that used a decade earlier by the English poet Phillip Sidney (1554
1586) in
Astrophel and Stella . The themes of love and infidelity are dominant in both sets of poems, in the
larger grouping; these themes are

He accepts this, and sees that his love will last forever even though he may not be there to

Sonnet 12, unlike sonnet 73, is made up of an octave, for observation, and a sestet, for reflection.
The iambic pentameters in this sonnet reflect the ticking of a clock, to display the passage of
time. The first line is a very obvious example of the passing of time, when I do count the clock
that tells the time . The person is counting the clocks chimes, giving an audible sound to the
reader of the clock, which is very important. The second line, and see the brave day sunk in
hideous night , gives an almost visual suggestion of brightness and gallantry by the word brave ;
as opposed to the ugliness and darkness of the hideous night . The poet also uses personification
to describe the brave day , which emphasises his youth and foolhardiness which is taken by the
coming night. When I behold the violet past prime , the violet is emblematic of the Spring and
new life and growth, prime also means the period of perfection, which is considered to be Spring.
The poet has used past prime to convey that once was young and fresh is now fading and dying.
Reflecting the ephemeral nature of life, which he is losing and that has nearly totally left him.
The following line describes the sable hair of youth is turned all silvered o er with white , meaning
that his black hair when the man

The Princess s Darkest Cuts
Engagement rings come in various cuts, carat weights and styles, and halo rings are timeless in
their beauty and popularity. Hailing from the 1920s, halo rings have dazzled celebrities and non
celebrities alike with their unique and artistic designs. The halo, or multiple halos, encircles the
main gemstoneadding an ornate sparkle and the illusion of greater size that can t be achieved by a
solitary stone. Although solitaires are more prevalent, halos are certainly making their mark on
brides to be everywhere due to their lavish and majestic appearance. When choosing a halo ring

It s sharp, square edges give it the flexibility to work with almost any style ring especially the
halo and tend to be less expensive per carat than rounds. Carat for carat, the crown surface area of
a princess is about 10 percent less than a same weight round. However, the corner to corner
measure is typically 15 percent greater, thus creating the illusion of greater size.
The Oval
The oval cut is similar to the round in brilliance and its elongated shape gives the illusion of
greater carat weight. It is ideal if you like the look of a round, but desire a more unique look.
Ovals can vary in degree of how narrow or fat they are and the elongated shape can make the
finger appear longer or slimmer. Evaluating color and clarity of the oval is subjective, so when
choosing this cut you may find it to be less optimal than all of the others.
The Pear
A combination of the round and marquis cuts; the pear is unique in that it is worn with the point
toward the hand so that when shown to an admirer it has the appearance of, well, a pear. It s ideal
appearance should be that of excellent symmetry where the point lines up with the apex of the
rounded end. Color and clarity, here are also subjective and the point of larger pears may seam

Antoine-Henri Becquerel s Nobel Prize
I was so excited to wake up today. It is the year 1903. All of my difficult work has finally paid
off! Today is the day I will receive a Nobel Prize. It s not only me who is being awarded this
prestigious prize. My husband, Pierre Curie, and my colleague, Antoine Henri Becquerel, are
sharing this prize with me as well. Sadly, my husband or I cannot attend due to the fact that we
are too sick. We have all dedicated numerous hours to earn award. Everyone has sacrificed
something to make this discovery. I, myself, have worked super hard to receive an education. I
grew up in Poland and the Russians did not want us to have an education, although I was quite
intelligent. I eventually was so determined to obtain an education that I moved to Paris. It was
incredibly expensive there to the point to which I could barely afford to survive. I could afford
little food, but I was too stubborn to ask someone for money. Since I could not afford food, on
occasion I fainted in class due to a lack of it. In addition, I spent the majority of my money on my
education. Without being educated, I would not have been able to discover what I did in order to

After 6 months of flying, I was ready for the check ride. I ve been ready since before Christmas,
having completed my training on the 23rd. I scheduled my check ride on the 28th. That day was
quite interesting. I went to the flight school to check everything over with Josh and make sure I
was ready. Then we called the examiner to schedule the check ride. It was about 5pm, and Josh
made the call, which was very fortunate for me as it interrupted the examiner s dinner. He said to
have me to call him later and we would get things squared away.
I talked through the paperwork and got a few pointers from some people at the flight school. I got a

I was planning the flight to Murfreesboro, KMBT. It was an easy enough flight to plan
considering I had already done a flight out that way. I even managed to include a little VOR
navigation since the Hinch Mountain VOR is along the way. Even though it has been out of
service a lot, I felt it couldn t hurt to include it. I did all the requisite calculations since the
examiner had given me mock weather. I also planned on waiting until the night before to check the
real weather and do real calculations.
In the mean time, I did the paperwork and hammered at the little oral exam prep book I had
purchased. By Wednesday, I had filled out the IACRA paper work about four times; it is a good
idea in theory, but leaves a little to be desired in practice. After ironing out all the details, I was
ready to go. Unfortunately, I hadn t considered that the flight school would close on New Years
Day which led to a bit of a shock when I got the email about the closure. I immediately called to
make sure I was still good to go. As it turns out, the examiner has a key so it wasn t a problem
(though it almost became one, more on this later).
I studied like crazy for the days running up to the check ride. I read everything I could find about
check rides on the internet. I studied every little scrap of paper from my training. I carried all that
stuff with me everywhere I went. It was pretty easy to manage with the flight bag I have, but

Pale Blue Dot
Carl Sagan extravagantly uses syntax, diction, and rhetorical devices in his essay Pale Blue Dot to
describe how planet earth is just one small speck in the vast unknown area of outer space, and
how we as people could be classified as insignificant to the rest of the solar system.
Within the story, Sagan used astonishing examples of syntax to get the reader thinking, not only
about the essay itself, but about the bigger picture. Near the end of the essay Sagan described
how we have explored the wide array of planets in space, but have not settled on any by saying,
ВЁ Visit, yes. Settle, no ВЁ(Sagan 4 of 5). This use of short sentences impacts the reader and
really catches their attention. Instead of drawing out a long explanation, he used these short
sentences to quickly convey the importance of how unknown that outer space really is and how
we are are only one small letter in a huge 400 page book. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The word Delusion was used within the sentence ...The delusion that we have some privileged
position in the Universe... (Sagan 3 of 5) . The word Delusion can have the connotation as being a
word that describes someone or something that is not of their right mind, maybe a little crazy.
The denotation is very similar in the sense that it says the word to be an idiosyncratic belief or
impression that is firmly maintained despite being contradicted by what is generally accepted as
reality or rational argument. If the author had chosen to use a different word in place of delusion,
it would not have taken the reader into another dimension or imaginary world , which this word
did very well. It created a sense of unknown when read by the reader, highlighting the key idea that
the outer space is a massive blank canvas in which we have only written our name in the corner

Without the Belgians, the Congo became financially unstable and lost whatever instruction and
guidance the Belgians thought to give whether it be any degree of education, which was then
thrust onto the Africans to teach themselves, or political stability. While the political stability was
not in the Congo s favor, it was still more beneficial than the leader the Congo had after Lumumba.
The loss of stability led to the Congo being considered lesser than other countries and led to other
countries, the United States of America, for example, shunning the Congolese. The financial
instability also led to the Congo being unable to communicate effectively with other countries the
sister countries of Africa or the countries abroad because the people of the Congo (or Zaire, as it
was called under Mobutu, the outsider that took the place of Lumumba) could not afford to use
what little finances they had for anything apart from basic survival necessities. This was alienating
in nature, but exile also proved to be enriching as well. The exile brought about the election of
Lumumba which in turn proved to produce ideas that would benefit the Congo. Lumumba s
election also resulted in higher morale. When he was killed, the Congolese were still loyal and

Rhetorical Analysis Of `` The Necessary Art Of Persuasion ``
Today s business environment is fundamentally the same as it s always been. An individual gets
into business to provide goods and/or services in exchange for a premium. That could be many
things ranging from other goods, services, money, or an agenda. In the article, The Necessary Art of
Persuasion, the author, Jay A. Conger, attempts to illustrate to the readers that one must learn and
become fluid in the art of persuasionin the business environment. I believe this argument in favor of
persuasion is relative now more then ever.
In the past persuasion has had a place in sales and marketing. Attempting to use persuasive
techniques in other areas of business could have been deemed as devious or manipulative.
However, certain aspects of how we do business and conduct ourselves has changed over the years.
Although the fundamental purpose as to why we do business is still the same how we get to the
end goal is not.
Persuasion definitely has its place in the business world. A great use for persuasive techniques is
communicating internally within ones organization. Conger describes in his article that in order
for one to be successful with the use of persuasion one must first redefine what they consider
persuasion to be. This article also dives into why persuasion is good to motivate ones subordinates
and get them to become more effective and efficient at what there function is. The old way to
manage individuals is similar to how military organizations do. These types of

In summary, it cannot be said that exact cause of most severe traffic accidents are known with
certainty but it is believed that speeding and drinking, jointly or separately, play some role in the
events that lead up to those accidents. Also to blame, in many instances, are the design of the
highway, the condition of the weather, the maintenance of the vehicle, the time of the day (many
severe accidents occur at dusk, with poor lighting and tired drivers), and the presence of radar
detectors. A study by the Ohio State Police found that radar detectors were present in at least one
of the vehicles involved in 69% of all severe traffic accidents on the highways of that state in 2005.
Studies in other states have confirmed that finding, with some estimates of the relationship running
as high as 75%.
The use of radar detectors is illegal in many if not most states, but neither the manufacturing nor the
marketing of the units has ever been banned by the federal government which, of course, is the sole
authority which could regulate their interstate trade. The U.S. constitution forbids any state from
restricting imports from any other state. Currently, therefore, there often occur an unusual situation
in which the use if the radar detector sets may be illegal within a given state, but the sale of those
sets is not illegal and cannot be prohibited within that state.
The manufacture and marketing of radar detectors was expanding industry,

Stephanie Hedge emphasizes that . Tablets can use polling and clicker technology, whiteboard

tablets can have multiple purposes. Tablets can be used as a device for video and audio

.According to the University Of Washington Course management tools such as Canvas allow
instructors to organize all the resources students need for a class (e.g. syllabi, assignments,

Examples Of American Crime Obsession
American Crime Obsession
With crime shows like Making a Murderer, the Killing, Luther, and The Fall within reach of every
person with a Netflix account, it makes it pretty easy to assume most people have, or will, watch a
crime show at some point in their life. Americans are so obsessed with crime and the killers that
drive it, which is why we are drawn towards the fictional crime tales. We have been apart of so
many involuntary crimes and horrible events which shape our country, yet we continue to take
these awful events and seek out more information and news about it. The real reason we ve
become so obsessed with true crime is because of the desire that people have to learn more about
the legal system, as well becoming intrigued by watching fictional crime shows. ... Show more

courtroom, let alone a murder trial, and our knowledge of the legal system doesn t encompass
much more than a few episodes of Law and Order or The Good Wife. Until we actually go into a
courtroom or experience a murder trial, our knowledge about the subject remains limited. By
hearing and learning about different crime scenarios through the news or other forms of
communication, it gives us a way to educate ourselves on the legal system without actually
becoming involved with it. Along with that, the public s appetite for stories about a flawed criminal
justice system is growing and this makes the people more hungry for any sort of news they can get

  • 2. Rubber Ducky Research Paper Rubber Duckies Lost at Sea The famous Rubber Ducky has been a favorite bath toy for many babies. You may be surprised to learn that some scientists are also interested in rubber ducks! Each year many goods fall off of ships into the ocean. In 1992 there was a storm at sea with high winds. As a result, a container of 29,000 rubber ducks fell into the ocean. The ducks were on their way from Hong Kong to the United States. Since then, they have floated throughout the world. People have reported finding them in Hawaii, Alaska, South America, Australia, and as far as Scotland and Newfoundland. They even survived the freezing ice of the Arctic. These amazing ducks have been named the Friendly Floaters. Twelve years after the spill, ducks were still bobbing up on many beaches. There are still 2,000 Friendly Floaters in the North Pacific Gyre.( a swirl of ocean currents in the north Pacific Ocean) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Curtis Ebbesmeyer, an oceanographer, and other scientists have followed the journey of the ducks. Their studies have helped them understand more about ocean currents. They also learned about wave and wind patterns. Perhaps, more importantly, they now have more information regarding plastic pollution in oceans. The author Donovan Hohn said, Plastic Pollution is a real problem. He mentions in his book, Moby Duck, finding a dead whale that had a stomach full of trash. Finally, the rubber duck is not just a bath toy. Tracking the journeys of the rubber ducks has proved valuable. It has provided useful information to scientist and oceanographers ... • 3. The Mammalian Reving Reflection Of The Blood Pressure Conclusion The mammalian dive response causes the blood pressure to increase, heart rate to decrease, and oxygen intake to increase in individuals after they have been submerged in cold water. In this study, after water hit the trigeminal nerve behind the nose, the diving reflex caused peripheral vasoconstriction and bradycardia to occur in the subjects. The vasoconstriction caused the blood pressure to increase as the body attempted to concentrate more blood around heart, lungs and brain. The bradycardia was a result of the body attempting to conserve oxygen by (Pantennon,2013). expand bradycardia This response allows mammals to stay underwater longer, and it helps to extend that organisms life span by overriding other reflexes such as taking an immediate breath when suddenly exposed to water. If a mammal lacks the diving response, then it I smore likely that they may drown because of their body not being able to properly respond to the lack of oxygen. The reactions observed could have also been the result of either the body preparing for hypothermia or simply responding to the cold water shock. Cold water shock is the body s response to being suddenly exposed to cold water. Cold water shock also causes vasoconstriction by causing the blood vessels in the skin to close; both increase the resistance of blood flow which increases blood pressure. However, cold water shock causes the heart rate to increase, not decrease, as the mammalian dive response does. The sudden ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Objectives Of The Operation Andreas German Nazis developed the Operation Bernhard during the Second World War, as a continuation of the so called Operation Andreas. The goal of both operations was to flood the UK with counterfeit notes to provoke a shock effect in UK economy in both national and international scale. The experience of Germany in the inter war period served as an example of the devastating effects of hyperinflation in an economy. The plan focused on the printing of counterfeit notes with the largest number in circulation, ВЈ5, ВЈ10, ВЈ20, and ВЈ50. It also contemplated the production of US dollars but in a lesser extent because of technical difficulties. Operation Bernhard started in 1942 when Himmler revived the operation and assigned the mission to Bernhard KrГјger, an SS Major. KrГјger purpose was to improve Operation Andreas to make it more efficient. He moved the production centre to the Sachsenhausen concentration camp, near Berlin, and employed Jewish prisoners to produce counterfeit British notes. Around 142 Jewish were part of the operation, being isolated from the rest of the camp to avoid the spread of any detail about the mission. This group of prisoners managed to reproduce almost perfectly the British pounds, producing between ВЈ132 million and ВЈ300 million. Among the different ways of distribution, Germany opted for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The German Nazis in charge of the operation proposed different options for the distribution. The first one, also mentioned in the prior operation (Op. Andreas) was to drop the money from aircrafts directly over UK soil. The idea was that most of the people would remain the money from themselves instead of giving it back to the Bank of England. However, German aircraft force was not big enough to cover the necessities of the operation besides the war. As well, Germany had not control over British airspace, so it supposed a high risk ... • 6. Obasan and Poh-Poh Essay Oftentimes when reading fictional texts with similar themes, readers will find themselves encountering similar characters. In the realm of modern literature, elderly Asian women are often portrayed with many similarities; they are seen as protective, caring people who possess great wisdom. Ayako Nakane, also known as Obasan, the title character of Joy Kogawa s Obasan, and the character Poh Poh in Wayson Choys novelThe Jade Peony, are very similar in this regard. Both Obasan and Poh Poh drive forwards their respective narratives with their strong personalities. They have each suffered through troublesome pasts and as a result have become very wise. Obasan and Poh Poh share many similarities but they also have their differences. Both women... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even when her husband passes away, she does not break down into hysteria; she grieves quietly: The language of her grief is silence... Over the years, silence within her small body has grown large and powerful (Kogawa, 14). Despite her lack of words, Obasan is a source of love and steadfast support for her niece Naomi and her nephew Stephen. When their parents disappear, Obasan steps in, never hesitating to bear the weight of caring for the abandoned children. She feeds them, clothes them, and ensures their well being under impossible circumstances. Her commitment to them never falters, even when they neglect her. Stephen repeatedly treats Obasan with impatience and rudeness. Regardless, Obasan constantly puts the needs of others before her own. Her actions are aimed at making the people around her happy. Obasan does everything in her power to ensure that her niece and nephew find a place for themselves in the world and Naomi takes comfort in her gentleness and dependability. Despite her silence, Obasan is a focal point of the narrative and at the center of the main character Naomi s life. In Wayson Choy s The Jade Peony, Poh Poh is also a driving force of the narrative. The story is separated into three segments; each segment tells a story from the perspective of a different sibling. The siblings are Poh Poh s grandchildren. Poh Poh is a crucial element of all three stories. She forms a bond with each child that helps them develop and she is a key ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Kurt Cobain ( 1967-1994 ) Essay Kurt Cobain (1967 1994) was one of the most inventive and ingenious musicians not only in the 1990s but in all of the twentieth century. He was the lead singer and guitarist for the grunge rock band Nirvana from 1987 to his death in 1994. Along with bassist Krist Novoselic and drummer Dave Grohl (who was the band s third and final drummer) changed the concepts of hard rock, punk, and heavy metal: and brought it to mainstream media. Before his rise to fame, Cobain had a rough childhood from his parents divorcing to being bullied in school. According to Biography.com: He[Cobain] excelled at drawing, so much so that his talents were even apparent in kindergarten. He also learned to play piano by ear and enjoyed a kiddie drum kit his parents had given him. ...After his parents divorced when he was nine, Cobain became withdrawn. He went to live with his father after the divorce. On the weekends, he would visit his mother and his sister. When his father remarried, Cobain resented his stepmother Jenny and her two children. One of the bright spots of this difficult time was a present he received from his uncle Chuck a guitar. Although the instrument was fairly beat up, it inspired Cobain to learn to play and it offered him a respite from his unhappiness at home. Alienated and angry, he believed that his father always took his stepmother s side and favored her children and his half brother Chad who had been born in 1979. Cobain began experimenting with drugs in his mid teens, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Schutz Marke Wall Clock A treasured time piece in transition to family heirloom. The Schutz Marke Wall Clock is a unique blend of art and furniture and is characteristic of the German craftsmanship of the 19th century and stopped production after 1932. Ironically, Louise Pearson (my great grandmother) purchased this clock in 1932. The picturesque style of this brand of clocks makes it a centerpiece in the home, as many have them hanging in their home to this day. Regulator clocks, sometimes referred to as pendulum clocks, were invented in the late 18th century in a quest for greater timekeeping accuracy (. This is a culturally symbolic timepiece and its character is more enhanced as it is no longer crafted by Schutz Marke. Many have the clocks hanging on their walls, even without that special meaning they hold for some. My grandmother perceives this as both functional and symbolic of her relationship with her mother and the meaning it held for her, and that is why she has one. The intricate details along the sides and in the hands themselves is amazing. There are many types of clocks made and manufactured but the Antique Schutz Marke German Vienna wall clockis a classic a strikingly magnificent work of art. The importance of this artifact is that the details tell the craftmaker s story from the time period it was created. Its craftsmanship is just one aspect of its significance, as this time piece brings that connection from past, present, and future for a family. The particular clock ... That left the Dyersburg Cotton Products, Incorporated as the largest industry by 1929. Today, in Dyer County, there are many factories and more urban infrastructure, but outside the major towns it is still rural farmland with small communities, such as Finley and RoEllen. Dyer County was also involved in the Mexican American War and the Civil War. During the Mexican American War, a volunteer company was organized in Dyer County and it was the only county in west Tennessee to have any volunteers, so it was represented as the county instead of the state. During the Civil War, Dyer County, had many regiments formed in the county, but it never had any prolonged Confederate or Union camps. Dyer County also had a Confederate brigadier general named, Otho F. Strahl, who was killed in the Battle of Franklin. After the Civil War, Dyer County was one of the counties on west Tennessee marked as a hotspot for KKK activity. • 10. Social And Cultural Change Prompted Social and Cultural Change Prompted by Technology Textile, steam, and metallurgy based innovations amounted to a legacy in Britain and a precedent for future industrial revolutions for other countries. As urbanization became a phenomenon in Britain, people migrated to the city centers in an effort to find employment and waged labor. New technological advancements, during Britain s Industrial Revolution, prompted change in society and culture. The increased demand for British goods resulted in merchants needed more cost effective methods of production, which led to the rise of mechanization and the factory system. The separation of social classes and labor was one major effect of the inventions. Also, women and children were the new solution for long, hard hours and lower pay. Cultural changes were a direct result of this increase in technological developments, reshaping familial relations and daily life, while leaving an agriculturally based culture. The most important change in society and societal views, that resulted from new technology in everyday life, was a larger separation in classes and wages. As technology emerged, a new class system followed. Before the industrial revolution, the average lifespan was higher, the economy was stimulated by agriculture, and, above all, there was little division in social class and labor. With small scale productions, the agricultural sector was self sufficient. However, as more people flocked to the cities in search of employment in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. The Victorian Era Exposed In Dracula By Bram Stoker The Victorian Era is regarded as very impactful time in terms of literature. It incorporated the elements of Gothic principles such as isolation, fascination of the past, and decay. All of the listed characteristics appear in the infamous novel Dracula and play a significant role in how the book is transcribed. But perhaps the most significant attribute would be the concept of othering or foreigners. In Bram Stokers Dracula, Stoker provides a thorough perspective in to the British fear of the other. He utilizes the main character, Dracula, to convey how society portrays foreigners or immigrants as aggressors. Dracula highlights the British fear of the other and all that is foreign. He comes from somewhere other than England, Transylvania, to symbolize his exclusion from society and to represent his status as an immigrant. Dracula also does not have anything in common with the Transylvanian citizens. They also express a great deal of superstition about Dracula when Jonathan Harker arrives. When I asked him if he knew Count Dracula, and could tell me anything of his castle, both he and his wife crossed themselves, and, saying that they knew nothing at all, simply refused to speak further (Stoker 7).... Abraham Lincoln s Emancipation Proclamation The Emancipation Proclamation Although Abraham Lincoln produced numerous timeless events in the history of the United States of America, perhaps none more effective as the Emancipation Proclamation. The innovative and impactful Emancipation Proclamation consisted of two executive orders issued by President Lincoln. The first order was issued on September 22, 1862 and gave freedom to all slaves in the Confederate States of America that did not return to Union control by January 1, 1863. One hundred days later, the second order was issued on January 1, 1863, this order was more descriptive and named specific states (Klos, 2014). Today Abraham Lincolns Emancipation Proclamation is viewed and favored as the Government s first major step in the abolition of slavery. It is also considered the first real addition to Thomas Jefferson s vision of equality outlined in the Declaration of Independence. However, the immediate reaction when the preliminary Proclamation was released was that of both praise and condemnation. Abolitionists viewed the Proclamation as weak, while Democrats and Southerners saw it as groundbreaking and aggressive. Other than the order itself, the manner in which it was released was a political and national powder keg (Girardi, 2013). The first executive order came five days after the bloodiest single day of the Civil War, the Battle of Antietam. Pi sees this as evidence of a shameful lack of imagination. However, even with the the evolution of human neuroimaging over the last 15 20 years, still some researchers use this technique in a way that resembles a kind of modern day phrenology (Kringebach Rolls, 2004). Furthermore, it is of vital importance to be aware of the fact that these interesting pictures of the brain can potentially mislead us if not interpreting them based on the wealth of scientific evidence gained by diverse and various methods from both humans and other animals(Kringebach Rolls, 2004). According to Cavada Schzult s (2004) orbitofrontal cortex is one of the least explored and least understood regions of the primate cerebral cortex, a part of the frontal lobe that lies on the top of the orbit. Classic clinical evidence proposes that the orbitofrontal cortex is engaged in critical human operations, such as social integration and the regulation of emotional states, drive and responsibility, and generally traits that are vital in shaping the personality of an individual. Kringebach and Rolls (2004) argues that the orbitofrontal cortex can be used in various ways as a good model of how ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Role of Sight, Scent, and Sound by the White-tailed Deer Use and relative role of sight, scent, and sound by white tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) to locate and select between different types of foods Introduction The foraging habits of white tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus; hereafter deer) have been extensively researched. Studies have evaluated seasonal influence as well as other environmental influences on forage selection by deer (Moen 1981, Rogers et al. 1981, McCullough 1985, and others). However, no such research has ever tested to determine what senses deer use to locate and select between different food types or the relative importance of each sense involved in that process. We are missing much of the basic knowledge of physiology and anatomy related to the sensory capabilities of deer (D Angelo et al. 2006). Information from this type of research is becoming increasingly important to wildlife biologists, as they can use it to improve other forage selection studies aimed at reducing crop depredation or other wildlife damage. So little is known about the role of sight, smell, and sound in deer ability to locate and select between forage types, therefore quantitative information in this area of research needs further attention (Sayre et al. 1992). By understanding the importance of each sense in the location and selection of different food types by deer, new studies can be set up that focus on the most important sense, while also considering what effects the other senses have on their behavior. The loss of stability led to the Congo being considered lesser than other countries and led to other countries, the United States of America, for example, shunning the Congolese. The financial instability also led to the Congo being unable to communicate effectively with other countries the sister countries of Africa or the countries abroad because the people of the Congo (or Zaire, as it was called under Mobutu, the outsider that took the place of Lumumba) could not afford to use what little finances they had for anything apart from basic survival necessities. This was alienating in nature, but exile also proved to be enriching as well. The exile brought about the election of Lumumba which in turn proved to produce ideas that would benefit the Congo. Lumumba s election also resulted in higher morale. When he was killed, the Congolese were still loyal and remembered what could have been under Lumumba. • 50. Rhetorical Analysis Of `` The Necessary Art Of Persuasion `` Today s business environment is fundamentally the same as it s always been. An individual gets into business to provide goods and/or services in exchange for a premium. That could be many things ranging from other goods, services, money, or an agenda. However, certain aspects of how we do business and conduct ourselves has changed over the years. Although the fundamental purpose as to why we do business is still the same how we get to the end goal is not. Persuasion definitely has its place in the business world. A great use for persuasive techniques is communicating internally within ones organization. Conger describes in his article that in order for one to be successful with the use of persuasion one must first redefine what they consider persuasion to be. This article also dives into why persuasion is good to motivate ones subordinates and get them to become more effective and efficient at what there function is. In summary, it cannot be said that exact cause of most severe traffic accidents are known with certainty but it is believed that speeding and drinking, jointly or separately, play some role in the events that lead up to those accidents. Also to blame, in many instances, are the design of the highway, the condition of the weather, the maintenance of the vehicle, the time of the day (many severe accidents occur at dusk, with poor lighting and tired drivers), and the presence of radar detectors. A study by the Ohio State Police found that radar detectors were present in at least one of the vehicles involved in 69% of all severe traffic accidents on the highways of that state in 2005. Studies in other states have confirmed that finding, with some estimates of the relationship running as high as 75%. The use of radar detectors is illegal in many if not most states, but neither the manufacturing nor the marketing of the units has ever been banned by the federal government which, of course, is the sole authority which could regulate their interstate trade. The U.S. constitution forbids any state from restricting imports from any other state. Currently, therefore, there often occur an unusual situation in which the use if the radar detector sets may be illegal within a given state, but the sale of those sets is not illegal and cannot be prohibited within that state. We have been apart of so many involuntary crimes and horrible events which shape our country, yet we continue to take these awful events and seek out more information and news about it. Molly Fosco, a writer and a lifestyle blogger, says Most of us have never even been in a courtroom, let alone a murder trial, and our knowledge of the legal system doesn t encompass much more than a few episodes of Law and Order or The Good Wife. Until we actually go into a courtroom or experience a murder trial, our knowledge about the subject remains limited. By hearing and learning about different crime scenarios through the news or other forms of communication, it gives us a way to educate ourselves on the legal system without actually becoming involved with it.
