Personal Narrative On Skiing
On January 20th 2006 was the first time I ever went skiing.I was in a ski group called tiny tigers
A ski school at sunshine village. I remember that i didn t like being in the school part because i
just wanted to go skiing. It was funny because after a few weeks my techear told me and my
parents that i made it on the bunny hill well i was boncing of the walls when i found out i made it
the bunny hill.
On December 15th 2008 I was 6 years old I was going up the bronze chair I was getting better and I
could do easy greens and easy blues. My dad said to me if I tried a black diamond for the first time
he would give me two gingerbread cookies so I did it. We were going up the chair lift and I
remembered i had a very worried face because i had never done anything that big before. We were
at the top of black diamond and i was really nervous.I really wanted those cookies I decided to try it.

The Outsiders And The Outsiders Similarities
How can two people who are completely different share similarities? Dally and Johnny, two
greasers from S. E. Hinton s The Outsiders, have distinct differences as well as similarities. They
are similar because they both know what it is like to have abusive and neglectful parents. Also,
they both care about each other in similar ways. Dally and Johnny are completely different when
it comes to the law. Dally is the least law abiding in the gang, where as Johnny is the most. Dally
and Johnny are dissimilar as they die. Dally dies a hoodlum, which is vast differencefrom how
Johnny dies a hero. Therefor, Dally and Johnny have a lot in common, but also have great
differences. Dally and Johnny are similar in a way of knowing what it is like to have abusive
and neglectful parents. Dally has no love coming from his home, which is why he does some
reckless things. The loveless life he has at home is cause of his inability to love others. His
parents do not interact with him and Dally states, my old man don t give a hang whether I m in
jail or dead in a car wreck or drunk in the gutter (88). Dally s parents do not give him the attention
he needs and they neglect him to a world where he has made himself closed off and tough.
Similarly to how Johnny faces abuse and neglect when it comes to his parents. Like Dally, letting
people in is hard for Johnny because of his family. Johnny s home life is terrible and His father
was always beating him up,

The Decision To Drop The Atomic Bomb
The Decision to Drop the Atomic Bomb
One of the most tendentious decisions made by the United States President, Harry S. Truman was
to use atomic weapons on Japan. President Truman knew he was faced with a great decision, he
dropped the bombs to save both American and Japanese lives, the Japanese not being willing to
surrender and also to shorten the war. President Truman was justified to drop the Atomic Bombs on
Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Japan was never willing to surrender, it was a part of their culture and if
they did it would show vulnerability and shame to their country. President Harry S. Truman took
this seriously and made a very tough decision to drop the Atomic Bombs.
Dropping the Atomic Bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki saved millions of American and Japanese
lives. If the United States decided to keep island hopping and invade Japanese territory they
would have lost close to one to two million American lives, including Japan about five million
lives would have been lost. With the bomb it would have costed about two hundred thousand lives.
Not using the atomic bombs would have forced the United States to launch a full invasion of
Japanese home islands, and this would have killed far more people than Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

By dropping the Atomic Bombs it definitely shortened the war and prevented future use of atomic
weapons. The bombs scared the world, it showed how powerful the United States actually was. The
bombings showed everyone that the U.S. has powerful weapons and that they are not afraid to use
them if necessary. Also, dropping the bombs caused Japan to surrender which shortened the war
and impressed the Soviet Union. It stopped the war quickly enough that the USSR did not demand
occupation of Japan. After dropping the Atomic Bombs Japan finally surrendered, which started the

The North East of India is quite different from other regions of the country. The seven states of the
North East namely Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and
Tripura are affected by several insurgent groups. The North East, having 262 tribes and 31 million
populations (1991 census) has proved very vulnerable to insurgency due to its sharing international
boarder, availability of arms and training camps, demographic imbalance created by immigrants,

The offerings or help that the village people made to their so called brothers fighting for their Land
was a voluntary act but the bitter realization of the truth and the loss of the intitial romantic
fervour have made them feel that the rebels are nothing more than extortionist. The starting of
the story aptly presents the feelings of the poor villagers: There was an uneasy quiet in the
village: the underground extortionist had come and gone and along with them the hard earned
cash the vilagers had earned by digging the first alignment for a motorable road to their village.
(54) The poor villagers were fed up of the viloence wreaked by the overground as well as the
underground army. They succumbed to the pressure and gave up without any resistence. The
following lines reflect the fear and the helplessness of the villagers: they knew that these fierce
looking goons from the forest had come to the village at night with only one purpose: to rob them
in the name of underground government. Resisting them was of no use: they carried guns and the
consequences of any conflict would only mean retaliation. (55) At one point of the story, when a
poor man appealed to the leader of the rebel group to excuse him this time as he

The Weakness Of Society In Aristophanes s Play The Frogs
In Aristophanes play the Frogs he exercises some privileges such as criticizing the politicians and
playing fun with the gods to make the situation seem more light and fun. He mostly sticks to the
main problem that their society is losing the Peloponnesian war and that if they don t return to the
old ways of thinking and doing things then the kingdom will fall. Through his play he points out
several flaws in their society and what they can do to fix them but refraining from offending anyone
by saying it through the humorous situations and tones of the play. Throughout the play
Aristophanesamuses and informs his audience through the songs of the chorus and the actions
and words of his characters. The chorus allows for a humorous and lovely way to sum up what
others may have missed. This informs the crowd about what has just transpired while also
providing the crowd advice and allowing them to send prayers to the gods. Such as on page 181
when the chorus leader says We ll put on serious looks and have our say. And first for those
misguided souls I plead. Who in the past to Phrynichus paid heed, It s history now; their folly
they regret. The time has come to forgive and forget. and when the chorus leader says This city
treats her soundest men today: By a coincidence more sad than funny, It is very much like the
way we treat our money. The noble silver drachma, which of old, We were so proud of, and the
one of gold, Coins that rang true (clean stamped and worth their weight) Throughout the world
have ceased to circulate. Instead the purses of Athenian shoppers. Are full of phony silver plated
coppers . This is advice given about how Athens treats its people it gets them thinking about this
subject long after the play has ended. The chorus is how Aristophanes creates a light way to tell his
listeners his ideas about their own society and what they should do about their situation. He also
entertains his audience with the physical acts of the play such as when the god Dionysusand his
slave are being tested by being spanked to see which of them is actually a god. Through this act
Aristophanes is not trying to make fun of Dionysus even though he is shown as cowardly, idiotic
and very silly all dressed

Beowulf Is The Longest Epic Poem
Beowulf is the longest epic poem written in Old English. The story centers around the exploits of
Beowulf, a heroic warrior known for his strength and bravery. The theme of heroism is prevalent
throughout the poem through the use of conflict between good and evil forces. Beowulf is often
engaged in selfless conquests in the pursuit of saving others, resulting in his emergence as the hero
of the story. The text, while focusing on the main theme of heroism, is divided into two main parts,
Beowulfas a young warrior and Beowulf as an experienced ruler. Heroism presents itself as both a
virtue and a flaw for Beowulf; although it allows him to become a celebrated warrior, it is also
what leads to his downfall as a ruler.
The poem opens by illustrating the importance of courage, the ultimate form of greatness to the
Danes. So. The Spear Danes in days gone by and the kings who ruled them had courage and
greatness. We have heard of those princes heroic campaigns. (lines 1 3)
In warrior culture, heroism and bravery are celebrated above all else. All great kings of the past
were known for their heroism. Before ever becoming king, young Beowulf is renowned as a great
warrior for his immense strength and courage in battle. Beowulf while known for his mastery of
combat also fulfills his social obligations. He demonstrates virtues such as proper mannerisms,
loyalty, courtesy, and pride all of which are dictated by the Germanic heroic code. He often
demonstrates these virtues as the

World War I And The United States Essay
World War I was unlike any other war before it. The total casualties reached about about 38
million, with over 17 million deaths, 7 million of them being civilians, and 20 million wounded.
World War I was well known for the extensive system of trenches from which men of both sides
fought, the lethal new technologies unleashed such as poison gas, and for the battles under the sea
and in the skies. At first, the two sides consisted of the Allies: France, Britain, and Russia, against
the Central Powers: Germany, Austria Hungary, and Turkey. As the war carried on however, the
tides turned towards the Central Powers. Needing help, the Allies turned towards America for
assistance. The United Stateshowever, were very reluctant at first, sticking to their public policies.
Trading with both sides of the belligerents, the United States did not want to halt their booming
economy, and the large number of protests by immigrant citizens made joining the war even less
desirable. It was only after Britain s decision to blockade Germany, Germany s announcement to
resume unrestricted submarine warfare, and the British discovery of the Zimmerman Telegram that
the United States finally decided to join the war. When World War I
began, The United States made
it clear that they didn t want to be involved in the war, and maintained their neutrality. Isolationism
was a long American tradition, embraced since the earliest days of the country. In fact, during the
century following the signing

Third Grade Classroom Observation
For my observation, I observed a first to third grade special day class at a public Fresno Unified
School District classroom in Fresno, California. When I first entered the classroom all the students,
approximately 10 students, were sitting down on the rug in front of the class as the teacher was
reading a short story to them. When she finished they would go over their reading assignment.
For the first half an hour, I could see that the students in the back had a difficult time sitting still in
the crisscross position on the rug. One student would frequently stand up on his knees, lie down on
the rug, or spin himself in a circle. During this time I noticed that most of the students who also sat
in the back row on the rug was talking to their peers, while one student stayed quiet and entertained
himself with hyperactivity movements, sucking on his thumb, or playing with his shoelaces. When
the teacher finishes her explanation of the butterfly life cycle, a student quietly raised his hand and
asks her if he would be able to create a human life cycle instead.
I chose to observe a young Caucasian male student, around seven or eight years old. I also do not
have any background information about this student. For the purpose of this observation paper, I

Response To The Sansburg
Throughout this poem, the Sanburg intentionally uses the concrete and proper nouns to represent
the death that occurs over time in a war zone. These concrete nouns represent the extreme
conditions that happen while at war. The use of the word bodies (1) starts off the poem on a
somber note, by simply representing the amount of people that have passed. Furthermore, the
concrete nouns represent how some of these battles dragged on through the use and repeat of the
word, years. (7) The catastrophic effects of war on the landscape is exemplified by the
passengers asking, What place is this? (8) The people that come back to these war stricken areas
do not even recognize where they are in because it has been so badly devastated. Similarly, the

Comparing The Body And Spirit
Daoist Body In Daoism the body and spirit are seen as the same continuum of the Dao. Each is
equally important in the transformation to an immortal body. The challenge for Daoist is to
transform the entire body spirit continuum to a higher level and to experience themselves as one
with the Dao. With this in mind we can see that to Daoist the human body is viewed as a
collection of the cosmic energy qi (Kuhn, 2). Qi, is the fundamental energy at life s source. Like
the Dao there is only one qi. At conception a tiny bit of Heavenly qi is given to the human body. It
maintains life and growth, supports reproduction of life, and declines with age. At the time of
death, the qi is completely gone (Furth,21). There are two major types of qi,... Show more content

Without light there can be no shadow. They are allows interacting with one another, moving in
cycles of days and seasons. They regulate the movement of qi within the body, thus the path and
momentum of changes within the body. Yin and yang is further divided categories according to
Five Phases (wu xing), Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water. These Five Phases, when applied to
the human body, explain the dynamic relationships and bodily affinities of five basic systems of
visceral function (zang) and are associated with Liver, Heart, Spleen, Lung, and Kidney (Furth,23).
Inner Alchemy Neidan е…§дё№ (inner alchemy) is a collection of physical, mental, and spiritual
practices that Daoist use to create an immortal spiritual body that will survive after death. There is
no clear date for when neidan was first established. However, many scholars have found many
individual pieces that contributed to its development. Classical Daoist texts, correlative cosmology,
Yijing ж “з¶“ (Book of Changes) mythology, meditational and physical disciplines of yangsheng
е…»з”џ (nourishing life), cosmological traditions of waidan е¤–дё№ (external alchemy), medical
theory, Buddhist soteriology and Confucian moral philosophy are all a part of neidan. (Pregadio
and Skar, 464). It was not until the 12th century that all of these pieces came together to form the
neidan practice. For most of the last millennium the term neidan was not used to describe this
practice. Jindan 金丹 (Golden Elixir) was

Linguistic Genius Of Babies Book Review
Patricia Kuhl s TED Talk lecture, The Linguistic Genius of Babies, is an overview of how infants
as young as six months old are capable of discriminating between the units of all languages equally,
but at ten months, infants tend to become better at distinguishing between units of their native
language and worse at those of a foreign language. This shows that there is a critical period not
just for language acquisition but also for the ability to acquire a second language. Therefore,
parents who with for their children to have a bilingual advantage should expose infants to a second
language as soon as possible. Noam Chomsky believed that humans are genetically designed with
the capacity to learn language. Humans have a system of common rules and properties, called
universal grammar, which allows us to learn any world language. It appears that Kuhl s research
supports this theory. Kuhl exposed American infants, who had only been previously exposed to
English, to Mandarin during the critical period for language acquisition. Babies exposed to both
English and Mandarin showed equivalent statistics for language discrimination. This exposure
alters the Language Acquisitions Device (LAD) in the brain and makes infants the citizens of the
world, (Kuhl, 2010) Chomsky believed them to be, rather than the culture bound listeners, ... Show

While humans are biologically designed to produce language, with exception of reasons of
defect, there is still a time limit during which infants must be exposed to language or risk
developmental delays. These delays are not just in the area of language acquisitions, but are
related to other cognitive functions as well, as we saw in the example of Justin, the boy who was
raised as a dog by his caregiver. Language acquisition is essential in the development of the ability
to problem solve and to process and understand symbolic

Broken Monetary Policy Analysis
Fed Remains Wary of Broken Monetary Transmission Mechanism
During the early stages of quantitative easing by the Fed, many commentators doubted the ability
of monetary policy to gain traction in the real economy. The collapse in the velocity of circulation
of money was cited as unambiguous evidence that the US economy was firmly in the grips of a
liquidity trap. Normally, money velocity moves pro cyclically as the number of transactions
increase as the economy expands. Thus, the sheer size of the compression during the current
expansion raises questions about the changing nature of the monetary transmission mechanism and,
consequently, the implications for Fed policy conduct.
Liquidity traps are usually associated with a depressed velocity ... Show more content on

Faster economic growth raises the chances of the unemployment rate dipping further below its
natural level, while a depreciating dollar will produce imported inflation. These dynamics
cumulatively auger well for the FOMC to retain their current forward guidance. Meanwhile, the
issue of potential excessive risk taking in the financial system is somewhat more contentious,
given that the last two US recessions were caused by collapsing asset prices producing a
significant decline in private investment. Chair Yellen openly admits that US financial markets are
somewhat richly priced, while retreating from the current path of forward guidance will
consequently raise the risks of further froth emerging. Furthermore, since the financial crisis, the
Fed has been charged with the responsibility of providing financial stability to ensure that the real
economy is not imperilled should another crisis unfold. The pursuit of so called macro prudential
policies would involve issuing directives about limiting capital deployment in risker business lines.
The FOMC would probably be loathed to go down this route due to the risks of inadvertently
causing a credit crunch.

Browning s Ordinary Men Essay
There are no extraordinary men... just extraordinary circumstances that ordinary men are faced
to deal with (William Halsey). The same can be said about volatile men. This is the quote
Christopher R. Browning thought of when he named this book. The men of the 101st battalion
were rarely faced with decisions. Even if it had been proposed by Trapp the morning of Jozefow
that any of the older men who did not feel up to the task that lay before them could step out
(Browning, chapter 7, pg. 57), he didn t actually allow them any time to truly think about it. He
brought it up moments before they were about to go out to the slaughter. They were blind sided
and the men who didn t want to risk the future of their jobs as policemen or the men... Show more

But it was his lead they were following so if anyone could end this, it would be him. But just like
the rest of the men, he was just following orders from men higher on the totem pole. We can see
how distraught he is during the first massacre but how does the climate of the war change him?
Even in the very same chapter, we see him change when he turns away from the Jews who tried to
kiss his hands for saving them. But it s in chapter 11 we truly see how the climate of war has
made him adapt. When faced with a killing quota when stationed in Talcyn, Trapp decides to kill
the Jewish population instead of the Poles. Seemingly, this is because they re more expendable.
But to me, it seems as if he s gotten used to killing Jews. Poles can still be looked at as people for
him. He hasn t distanced himself from them like he has been forced to with Jews. The very
obvious rules of the German side of this war is that Jews aren t necessary. So when faced with
the decision to kill Poles or Jews, Trapp created his own rule that Jews are more expendable then
Poles. The man who once weeped for the Jews no longer had any inhibitions about shooting more
then enough Jews to meet his quota (Browning, chapter 11, pg. 102). Major Trapp, to me, was the
epitome of the ordinary men who didn t enjoy senseless murder evolving into a man who became
accustomed to senseless murder.

Linguistic relativity and linguistic determinism are strong version and weak version of Sapir Whorf
hypothesis respectively. According to XX (), linguistic relativityis defined as the variation of
cognitive processes among languages due to cultural differences. The individuals see, experience
and interpret the world based on the structure of the language they habitually use. Such linguistic
categories and usage influence thought and certain kinds of non linguistic behavior, carve up and
name the world differently. Linguistic relativism acknowledges that conceptual paradigms of
thought can be changed, extended, broadened and reshaped with respect to the experience the
individual has or the exertion the individual makes.
On the other hand, linguistic determinism is the idea that language and its structures limit and
determine human though patterns and knowledge, as well as thought processes such as
categorization, memory, and perception, assuming that language both reflects and limits human
mentality and its ability to make cross cultural connections such as bilingualism and translation. ...

Revegetation Project
Background: Exclosure installation is a frequently used passive restoration tactic in disturbed
riparian areas. While this method is effective at aiding graminoid recovery by removing grazing
from wild and domesticated ungulates as a disturbance, recovery of Salix spp. as well as other
woody species requires active intervention(Hough Snee et al. 2013). Much of the literature
surrounding the use of livestock exclosures has focused on the effects of removal in a passive
restoration context as well as highlighting the degrading effects of grazing and advocating for its
elimination or minimization on public lands (Sarr 2002). Little research has been done to explore
strategies for restoration of woody riparian species on active pastoral land... Show more content on

10 revegetation plots were established in the Spring of 2017 by students from Colorado State
University. The objectives of this study are to: 1) better inform the location of future
revegetation plots, 2) explore the dynamics of competition from grasses and grass likes in order
to better inform future treatments on revegetation plots, and 3) to explore the survivability of
multiple woody riparian species across treatment types in order to inform species selection on
future revegetation plots. Hypotheses/Questions: The primary question of this study is where
can revegetation plots best be located relative to grazing rotations? Of interest is: How is the
rate of planting success (multiyear survival) affected by placement in recently grazed systems
versus ungrazed (rested) systems? How is primary and secondary growth affected by placement
of plantings in grazed versus ungrazed systems/can grazing be utilized to reduce competition to
woody riparian species from riparian grasses? It is predicted that: Relative to unexclosed plots,
survival rates will be higher with grazing exclusion owing to reduced herbivory from livestock;
Survival rates will be higher within grazed plots owing to reduced resource competition from
riparian grasses; Growth rates will be higher within grazed plots due to greater root establishment
and less root space competition. Methods: A total of 3

Comparison Of Fees Must Fall And Black Lives Matter
Fees Must Fall and Black Lives Matter are two astonishing social movements that have expanded
over a course of time. Fees Must Fall originated in South Africa and is known as a movement led
by students convincing government officials to lower university fees in order for the citizens to
attend, while Black Lives Matter is a movement known for promoting black lives and responding to
previous discrimination against black people. Though these movements appear to be the antithesis
of each other because of the two distinct topics, they are similar due to their shared experiences of
inequality and their mutual platform used to help the movements grow larger. Fees Must Fall and
Black Lives Matter both face inequality in the global black community in different ways. Fees
Must Fall was a movement born out the struggle to obtain affordable access to colleges and
universities in South Africa. While the Apartheid is part of the history behind the struggle, it is not
the essence of the movement, but it is the reason why black students can t afford the fees. Fees

The New York Times By Richard Taruskin
Composers have been writing nationalistic works for years but not many people know that some
composers are using nationalistic techniques for a completely different reason. In an article in
the New York Times written by Richard Taruskin entitled Nationalism: Colonialism in Disguise ,
Taruskin explains how musicians these days are using nationalism, strong patriotic feelings
toward ones country, as a disguise for colonialism in order to be recognized as a well known
composer such as Beethoven or Brahms. One American composer, Louis Moreau Gottschalk, can
also be seen as somebody who uses nationalism in order to disguise his colonialist views. In this
paper, I hope to prove how Gottschalk s Bamboula is really colonialism in disguise and... Show

These higher forms of art refer to German composers such as Bach, Beethoven, Brahms who
were always considered some of the top composers to musicologists all over the world. Here,
Taruskin tries to explains to the readers that Dvorak didn t compose his New World Symphony to
be a purely American piece; he composed it piece to promote German musical colonialism! In
order to fully understand Bamboula and how Gottschalk used nationalism to disguise his colonialist
views, it is important to know a little bit about Gottschalk s history. Louis Moreau Gottschalk, 1829
1869, was an American pianist and composer born in New Orleans to a Jewish father and a French
mother. He was one of the most significant 19th century American musicians and wrote musicthat
influenced the rise of ragtime (Grove Music dictionary). According to Burkholder, Gottschalk was
the first American composer wth an international reputation (Burkholder, 2014). At age 5,
Gottschalk studied piano and organ and at age 12 he went to Paris for more training. He also
toured France, Switzerland, and Spain in 1845 52 and Chopin even named him the king of
pianists when he heard Gottschalk play at one of his concerts. Gottschalk s pieces were mainly
based off of tunes and rhythms from his mother s Caribbean heritage. This was probably the case

The Principles Of Supply Chain And Inventory Control
Case Overview
Harvey Industries is a Wisconsin company specializing in production, assembly, repair and the
sales of high pressure washer systems. Due to the death of the owner, the trustee of the bank
Milwaukee Bank has taken control of the company s affairs. Milwaukee appointed a new company
president and he has identified several problems, one of which pertaining to the inventory control
system. The new president requested recommendations among his employees on revising the
inventory control system and detailed analysis as to why these changes are to be implemented. To
improve the inventory management system the best way would be to identify the systems weakness

Case Summary
When creating an inventory management system, it is crucial to include team performance among
employees of the inventory supply chain. The team should know what materials are needed and if
possible find a way to reduce costs.
Inventory management is a core operations management activity (Stevenson, 2016). The Inventory
Management and Control needs to be designed to meet the demand of the marketplace and still be
able to support the company, and any plans to expand, etc. The structure of inventories is important
for the supply chain in order to have an effective material flow and order fulfillment. In the case for
Harvey Industries, the inventory control system would prompt the stockroom supervisor,
purchasing and manufacturing manager to place orders for goods to be replenished, whenever one
of them finds the materials have been depleted. Often, prompting trade offs in inventory and poor
inventory management results in a lower productivity value in operations, decreasing customer
satisfaction resulting in an increase in operating costs.
Analysis
In the management of an inventory system it cannot be run with a sole single person who is
responsible for managing inventory. It cannot be done as there are too many items to track and tons
of information flowing through. So there is no

that the rule of law has remain relatively consistent besides being updated to keep up with the times.
China s constitution was adopted in 1982 and revised in 2004, which shows that China s current
rule of law is a little bit more modernized.

What types of rights are protected by the different constitutions? (political, economic, or/and social)
In the United Kingdom s constitution, the people are given rights such as the right to life, thought,
religion, and expression. The citizens of the People s Republic of China are allowed freedom of
speech, press, assembly, association, precession, demonstration and religious belief.
4.Out of the two constitutions you looked at, which provided the greatest amount of protection?
The United Kingdom s constitution provided more protection because in China, the central
governing party is the Communist Party and although power is given to the National People s
Congress to make decisions, most of those members belong to the founding Communist Party.
5.What do you think is missing from the two documents?
The People s Republic of China s constitution does declare it a socialist state and gives power to the
National People s Congress, but is missing the fact that all power is given to the Communist Party.
The constitution of the United Kingdom is missing a single document to represent the constitution

Hasbro s Negative Influence On Children
In the modern world of shootings, bombings, and drugs, much of our lives is influenced by the
terrors of the world we live in. We see it on the news, social media, entertainment, and everyday
discussion. Even in children s toys we see the influences of our world. Hasbro s Nerf blasters are
some of the most popular toys for a child to have, and almost every American child will have a
water gun at some point in their life. It may be time to find out if in this age where the violence of
guns and bombs is so real it is ok to mimic this savagery in a game. I believe that while imitating
acts of brutality may have negative effects on teenagers, it can have very positive influences as well.

thinking of North Korea.
Introduction This report is a cultural analysis of the country of North Korea. The paper itself
analyzes the history, geography, education, language, economy, and politics of the Democratic
People s Republic of Korea known simply as: North Korea. Group 4 chose this particular country
out of curiosity and the want to find out what the nation was like. Not many facts are known about
North Korea and its shady past. This project explores everything from the difficult relationships
between the Korean people and their government, to the famines and floods that threatened the
entire survival of the country. The research has shed light on the corruption of the North Korean
government and the reign of ruthless leaders such as Kim Il Sung and his son Kim Jong Il. The
politics of North Korea have been questionable at best in the nation s history. Finally they are
making progress to renew laws that better fit into North Korean society, but the process is slow.

Strategic Bombing Of The Ussr Essay
Even before the end of the Second World War, the USSR was a very secretive and closed society.
US intelligence had little to no information about Soviet military strength and did not even have
accurate maps of the USSR. The best aerial photographs available to western planners were from
the Luftwaffe and had been captured by the allies at the end of WWII. Outside of these captured
photos, virtually no maps or aerial photography existed of the USSR, especially those areas in the
Urals, Siberia and the Far East. As victory in WWII appeared imminent, the USAAF under
General Hap Arnold commissioned studies to assess the impact of strategic bombing in the war. In
addition to results about strategic bombing, the U.S. Strategic Bombing Survey (USSBS)
concluded that the U.S. should have an intelligence organization capable of knowing the strategic
vulnerabilities, capabilities and intentions of any potential enemy. In spite of the aforementioned
dearth of intelligence on the USSR, very specific information was needed for military and
political leaders to make decisions regarding their strengths, weaknesses, and capabilities.
Additionally, the strategic bomber forces needed a list of verified targets in case conflict with the
USSR broke out. In order to fill the major voids in information the US civilian leaders employed a
bifurcated approach: human intelligence (HUMINT) obtained through agency operatives, and
signals (SIGINT) and imagery (IMINT) intelligence acquired

Surcharge Essay
The process is done by simply placing a surcharge fill on top of the soil that requires
consolidation. The excess load is referred to as surcharge load. The load must be placed in several
stages so as to prevent instability. Once the predicted consolidation is achieved, the fill can be
removed and construction can be started. Surcharge which was installed as a temporary load, can
be removed when the settlements exceed the foretold final settlement. Normally this is done only
after the remaining excess pore water pressurebecomes less than the stress increase caused by the
temporary surcharge. If the surcharge is higher than the work load, the soil will always be in an
over consolidated state.
The secondary compression for over consolidated soil is much smaller than that of normally
consolidated soil. The secondary settlement can be reduced or even eliminated either by increasing
the time of temporary overloading or by using a heavier overload.
Advantages of preloading:
Equipment cost is less since only conventional earthmoving equipment is needed.

should regard your review as a learning experience, with this review you should be able to take

distribution control is the key to this company success. Wal Mart wants to take over the United
States services from suppliers in an attempt to reduce the cost of hauling supplies (Burit 2010).
This is a huge step in the right direction for this company because by Wal Mart doing this, they
have an advantage over the other competitors. Wal Mart wants to cut the time of delivery in half,
by having more fleets on the road, and by filling them to capacity, and dropping off directly to the
distribution centers and stores. The down side to the distribution control is Wal Mart will see an
increase in transportation costs. The control mechanisms are made up of the four functions of
management and this is considered the focused approach of Wal Mart. The four functions of
management are: planning and organizing, leading and controlling. These four functions play a
crucial role in monitoring to ensure compliance and providing control practices.

Analysis Of The Five-Forty-Eight
The Five Forty Eight The Five Forty Eight by John Cheever is a short story about a woman, Miss

exposition, the anticipation of the climax, and the clever resolution. The suspenseful exposition

and confused man wondering if the woman is following him or not. As reading that quote I want
more insight on what would make this woman want to follow him. Does she want to harm him?
Is she just wanting to talk to him? Who is she? She might be meaning to do harm she might be
meaning to kill him (Cheever 2). From thinking the woman is following him to wondering if she
is meaning to do him harm escalated the suspense in the exposition. Asking myself many
questions as to why Mr. Blake would think that she wants to harm him, and why would she want
to harm him? He could run although he was afraid that if he did run, it might precipitate the
violence he now felt sure she had planned (Cheever 4). This quote told me that he was sure that
she was trying to harm him. Deciding if Mr. Blake should run told me he figured out Miss Dent

really introduced to the world in old movies, usually old Western movies. Actors like Roy

Performers were also a part of the skinny jeans history. People like Elvis Presley wore them during
his concerts in the 1950 s.

During the 60 s, Elvis was still going strong with the skinny jean trend. During this decade, things in

Previously, I have been weary of the costs, not having much, if any, of a portfolio, along with
choosing an accredited school. Ultimately, after discovering how effortless the search is to find a
design school that fits my needs, I finally know in my heart it s now or never. I first chose to
apply to Watkins School of School of Art, Design, and Film due to it being an accredited institution

  • 3. The Outsiders And The Outsiders Similarities How can two people who are completely different share similarities? Dally and Johnny, two greasers from S. E. Hinton s The Outsiders, have distinct differences as well as similarities. They are similar because they both know what it is like to have abusive and neglectful parents. Also, they both care about each other in similar ways. Dally and Johnny are completely different when it comes to the law. Dally is the least law abiding in the gang, where as Johnny is the most. Dally and Johnny are dissimilar as they die. Dally dies a hoodlum, which is vast differencefrom how Johnny dies a hero. Therefor, Dally and Johnny have a lot in common, but also have great differences. Dally and Johnny are similar in a way of knowing what it is like to have abusive and neglectful parents. Dally has no love coming from his home, which is why he does some reckless things. The loveless life he has at home is cause of his inability to love others. His parents do not interact with him and Dally states, my old man don t give a hang whether I m in jail or dead in a car wreck or drunk in the gutter (88). Dally s parents do not give him the attention he needs and they neglect him to a world where he has made himself closed off and tough. • 5. The Decision To Drop The Atomic Bomb The Decision to Drop the Atomic Bomb One of the most tendentious decisions made by the United States President, Harry S. Truman was to use atomic weapons on Japan. President Truman knew he was faced with a great decision, he dropped the bombs to save both American and Japanese lives, the Japanese not being willing to surrender and also to shorten the war. President Truman was justified to drop the Atomic Bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Japan was never willing to surrender, it was a part of their culture and if they did it would show vulnerability and shame to their country. President Harry S. Truman took this seriously and made a very tough decision to drop the Atomic Bombs. Dropping the Atomic Bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki saved millions of American and Japanese lives. If the United States decided to keep island hopping and invade Japanese territory they would have lost close to one to two million American lives, including Japan about five million lives would have been lost. With the bomb it would have costed about two hundred thousand lives. Not using the atomic bombs would have forced the United States to launch a full invasion of Japanese home islands, and this would have killed far more people than Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The North East, having 262 tribes and 31 million populations (1991 census) has proved very vulnerable to insurgency due to its sharing international boarder, availability of arms and training camps, demographic imbalance created by immigrants, nexus(tie) between politicians and insurgent groups, huge economic underdevelopment and pressure and isolated standing from the mainland India connected through a 50 kilometer corridor called ... The offerings or help that the village people made to their so called brothers fighting for their Land was a voluntary act but the bitter realization of the truth and the loss of the intitial romantic fervour have made them feel that the rebels are nothing more than extortionist. The starting of the story aptly presents the feelings of the poor villagers: There was an uneasy quiet in the village: the underground extortionist had come and gone and along with them the hard earned cash the vilagers had earned by digging the first alignment for a motorable road to their village. (54) The poor villagers were fed up of the viloence wreaked by the overground as well as the underground army. They succumbed to the pressure and gave up without any resistence. The following lines reflect the fear and the helplessness of the villagers: they knew that these fierce looking goons from the forest had come to the village at night with only one purpose: to rob them in the name of underground government. Resisting them was of no use: they carried guns and the consequences of any conflict would only mean retaliation. • 7. The Weakness Of Society In Aristophanes s Play The Frogs In Aristophanes play the Frogs he exercises some privileges such as criticizing the politicians and playing fun with the gods to make the situation seem more light and fun. He mostly sticks to the main problem that their society is losing the Peloponnesian war and that if they don t return to the old ways of thinking and doing things then the kingdom will fall. Through his play he points out several flaws in their society and what they can do to fix them but refraining from offending anyone by saying it through the humorous situations and tones of the play. Throughout the play Aristophanesamuses and informs his audience through the songs of the chorus and the actions and words of his characters. The chorus allows for a humorous and lovely way to sum up what others may have missed. This informs the crowd about what has just transpired while also providing the crowd advice and allowing them to send prayers to the gods. Such as on page 181 when the chorus leader says We ll put on serious looks and have our say. And first for those misguided souls I plead. Who in the past to Phrynichus paid heed, It s history now; their folly they regret. The time has come to forgive and forget. and when the chorus leader says This city treats her soundest men today: By a coincidence more sad than funny, It is very much like the way we treat our money. The noble silver drachma, which of old, We were so proud of, and the one of gold, Coins that rang true (clean stamped and worth their weight) Throughout the world have ceased to circulate. Instead the purses of Athenian shoppers. Are full of phony silver plated coppers . This is advice given about how Athens treats its people it gets them thinking about this subject long after the play has ended. The chorus is how Aristophanes creates a light way to tell his listeners his ideas about their own society and what they should do about their situation. He also entertains his audience with the physical acts of the play such as when the god Dionysusand his slave are being tested by being spanked to see which of them is actually a god. • 8. Beowulf Is The Longest Epic Poem Beowulf is the longest epic poem written in Old English. The story centers around the exploits of Beowulf, a heroic warrior known for his strength and bravery. The theme of heroism is prevalent throughout the poem through the use of conflict between good and evil forces. Beowulf is often engaged in selfless conquests in the pursuit of saving others, resulting in his emergence as the hero of the story. The text, while focusing on the main theme of heroism, is divided into two main parts, Beowulfas a young warrior and Beowulf as an experienced ruler. Heroism presents itself as both a virtue and a flaw for Beowulf; although it allows him to become a celebrated warrior, it is also what leads to his downfall as a ruler. The poem opens by illustrating the importance of courage, the ultimate form of greatness to the Danes. So. The Spear Danes in days gone by and the kings who ruled them had courage and greatness. We have heard of those princes heroic campaigns. (lines 1 3) In warrior culture, heroism and bravery are celebrated above all else. All great kings of the past were known for their heroism. Before ever becoming king, young Beowulf is renowned as a great warrior for his immense strength and courage in battle. Beowulf while known for his mastery of combat also fulfills his social obligations. • 9. World War I And The United States Essay World War I was unlike any other war before it. The total casualties reached about about 38 million, with over 17 million deaths, 7 million of them being civilians, and 20 million wounded. World War I was well known for the extensive system of trenches from which men of both sides fought, the lethal new technologies unleashed such as poison gas, and for the battles under the sea and in the skies. At first, the two sides consisted of the Allies: France, Britain, and Russia, against the Central Powers: Germany, Austria Hungary, and Turkey. As the war carried on however, the tides turned towards the Central Powers. Needing help, the Allies turned towards America for assistance. The United Stateshowever, were very reluctant at first, sticking to their public policies. Trading with both sides of the belligerents, the United States did not want to halt their booming economy, and the large number of protests by immigrant citizens made joining the war even less desirable. It was only after Britain s decision to blockade Germany, Germany s announcement to resume unrestricted submarine warfare, and the British discovery of the Zimmerman Telegram that the United States finally decided to join the war. When World War I began, The United States made it clear that they didn t want to be involved in the war, and maintained their neutrality. Isolationism was a long American tradition, embraced since the earliest days of the country. In fact, during the century following the signing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When I first entered the classroom all the students, approximately 10 students, were sitting down on the rug in front of the class as the teacher was reading a short story to them. When she finished they would go over their reading assignment. For the first half an hour, I could see that the students in the back had a difficult time sitting still in the crisscross position on the rug. One student would frequently stand up on his knees, lie down on the rug, or spin himself in a circle. During this time I noticed that most of the students who also sat in the back row on the rug was talking to their peers, while one student stayed quiet and entertained himself with hyperactivity movements, sucking on his thumb, or playing with his shoelaces. When the teacher finishes her explanation of the butterfly life cycle, a student quietly raised his hand and asks her if he would be able to create a human life cycle instead. The challenge for Daoist is to transform the entire body spirit continuum to a higher level and to experience themselves as one with the Dao. With this in mind we can see that to Daoist the human body is viewed as a collection of the cosmic energy qi (Kuhn, 2). Qi, is the fundamental energy at life s source. Like the Dao there is only one qi. At conception a tiny bit of Heavenly qi is given to the human body. It maintains life and growth, supports reproduction of life, and declines with age. • 13. Linguistic Genius Of Babies Book Review Patricia Kuhl s TED Talk lecture, The Linguistic Genius of Babies, is an overview of how infants as young as six months old are capable of discriminating between the units of all languages equally, but at ten months, infants tend to become better at distinguishing between units of their native language and worse at those of a foreign language. This shows that there is a critical period not just for language acquisition but also for the ability to acquire a second language. Therefore, parents who with for their children to have a bilingual advantage should expose infants to a second language as soon as possible. Noam Chomsky believed that humans are genetically designed with the capacity to learn language. Humans have a system of common rules and properties, called universal grammar, which allows us to learn any world language. It appears that Kuhl s research supports this theory. Kuhl exposed American infants, who had only been previously exposed to English, to Mandarin during the critical period for language acquisition. Babies exposed to both English and Mandarin showed equivalent statistics for language discrimination. This exposure alters the Language Acquisitions Device (LAD) in the brain and makes infants the citizens of the world, (Kuhl, 2010) Chomsky believed them to be, rather than the culture bound listeners, ... Broken Monetary Policy Analysis Fed Remains Wary of Broken Monetary Transmission Mechanism During the early stages of quantitative easing by the Fed, many commentators doubted the ability of monetary policy to gain traction in the real economy. The collapse in the velocity of circulation of money was cited as unambiguous evidence that the US economy was firmly in the grips of a liquidity trap. Normally, money velocity moves pro cyclically as the number of transactions increase as the economy expands. Thus, the sheer size of the compression during the current expansion raises questions about the changing nature of the monetary transmission mechanism and, consequently, the implications for Fed policy conduct. Chair Yellen openly admits that US financial markets are somewhat richly priced, while retreating from the current path of forward guidance will consequently raise the risks of further froth emerging. Furthermore, since the financial crisis, the Fed has been charged with the responsibility of providing financial stability to ensure that the real economy is not imperilled should another crisis unfold. • 15. Browning s Ordinary Men Essay There are no extraordinary men... just extraordinary circumstances that ordinary men are faced to deal with (William Halsey). The same can be said about volatile men. This is the quote Christopher R. Browning thought of when he named this book. The men of the 101st battalion were rarely faced with decisions. Even if it had been proposed by Trapp the morning of Jozefow that any of the older men who did not feel up to the task that lay before them could step out (Browning, chapter 7, pg. 57), he didn t actually allow them any time to truly think about it. He brought it up moments before they were about to go out to the slaughter. They were blind sided and the men who didn t want to risk the future of their jobs as policemen or the men... But just like the rest of the men, he was just following orders from men higher on the totem pole. We can see how distraught he is during the first massacre but how does the climate of the war change him? Even in the very same chapter, we see him change when he turns away from the Jews who tried to kiss his hands for saving them. But it s in chapter 11 we truly see how the climate of war has made him adapt. When faced with a killing quota when stationed in Talcyn, Trapp decides to kill the Jewish population instead of the Poles. Seemingly, this is because they re more expendable. But to me, it seems as if he s gotten used to killing Jews. Poles can still be looked at as people for him. He hasn t distanced himself from them like he has been forced to with Jews. The very obvious rules of the German side of this war is that Jews aren t necessary. So when faced with the decision to kill Poles or Jews, Trapp created his own rule that Jews are more expendable then Poles. The man who once weeped for the Jews no longer had any inhibitions about shooting more then enough Jews to meet his quota (Browning, chapter 11, pg. 102). Major Trapp, to me, was the epitome of the ordinary men who didn t enjoy senseless murder evolving into a man who became accustomed to senseless murder. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Much of the literature surrounding the use of livestock exclosures has focused on the effects of removal in a passive restoration context as well as highlighting the degrading effects of grazing and advocating for its elimination or minimization on public lands (Sarr 2002). In 2007, Jake Protell, a freshman, distinguished himself by ferreting out the itinerary of a field trip that two targets were taking to Tel Aviv. Protell took a car to Newark Airport, found the victims before they passed through security, and dispatched them using two bathtub squirt fish. and, At 10:30 p.m. on a Wednesday, three of the four seniors, armed with Walgreens issue water pistols, staked out Cohen s house in a blue Toyota minivan. The idea was to use a cell phone to call the Cohens landline, posing as Cohen s teammate Dominic, using Dominic s caller I.D. The call had been engineered from a remote computer by a squad member with prodigious hacking skills. This illustrates the level of strategery that is placed into the game. The game players produce innovative ideas to trick their prey into being able to be targeted. It also illustrates how team members rely on one another in order to complete the objectives of the game. Teammates of Jake Protell had to trust that he would kill their two targets. The teammates of the hacker had to ask him to get William Cohen in the proper position to get shot. • 33. Strategic Bombing Of The Ussr Essay Even before the end of the Second World War, the USSR was a very secretive and closed society. US intelligence had little to no information about Soviet military strength and did not even have accurate maps of the USSR. The best aerial photographs available to western planners were from the Luftwaffe and had been captured by the allies at the end of WWII. Outside of these captured photos, virtually no maps or aerial photography existed of the USSR, especially those areas in the Urals, Siberia and the Far East. As victory in WWII appeared imminent, the USAAF under General Hap Arnold commissioned studies to assess the impact of strategic bombing in the war. In addition to results about strategic bombing, the U.S. Strategic Bombing Survey (USSBS) concluded that the U.S. should have an intelligence organization capable of knowing the strategic vulnerabilities, capabilities and intentions of any potential enemy. In spite of the aforementioned dearth of intelligence on the USSR, very specific information was needed for military and political leaders to make decisions regarding their strengths, weaknesses, and capabilities. Additionally, the strategic bomber forces needed a list of verified targets in case conflict with the USSR broke out. In order to fill the major voids in information the US civilian leaders employed a bifurcated approach: human intelligence (HUMINT) obtained through agency operatives, and signals (SIGINT) and imagery (IMINT) intelligence acquired ... • 36. Surcharge Essay The process is done by simply placing a surcharge fill on top of the soil that requires consolidation. The excess load is referred to as surcharge load. The load must be placed in several stages so as to prevent instability. Once the predicted consolidation is achieved, the fill can be removed and construction can be started. Surcharge which was installed as a temporary load, can be removed when the settlements exceed the foretold final settlement. Normally this is done only after the remaining excess pore water pressurebecomes less than the stress increase caused by the temporary surcharge. If the surcharge is higher than the work load, the soil will always be in an over consolidated state. The secondary compression for over consolidated soil is much smaller than that of normally consolidated soil. The secondary settlement can be reduced or even eliminated either by increasing the time of temporary overloading or by using a heavier overload.
