The Disease Known as Diabetes
8.3 percent of Americans have a disease called diabetes mellitus, also known as diabetes. It is
characterized by high blood sugar, brought on either because the pancreas is not producing enough
of a hormone called insulin, which helps remove glucose from the blood, or because the cells are
unresponsive to the insulinthat is being produced. Three symptoms that result from this high
blood sugar are polyuria, or frequent urination, polydipsia, or increased thirst, and polyphagia, or
increased appetite. When the body cannot produce insulin, this is called type 1 diabetes. People
with this type of diabetes usually have to inject insulin or wear an insulin pump. In contrast,
when cells simply cannot use insulin correctly, the patient has type 2 diabetes. This is usually
treated by increasing exercise or making adjustments to the diet, which should lower blood
sugar. Finally, a third type of diabetes called gestational diabetes occurs only in pregnant
women. These women have not been previously diagnosed with diabetes, rather, they have
developed high blood sugar during their pregnancy. If not effectively treated by making changes
to the diet, gestational diabetes can be a precursor to type 2 diabetes as well as childhood obesity
and eventual diabetes in the infant. Of all cases of diabetes, only about five to ten percent are type

Relationship Between Antthropometrics And Ergonomics
Human Factors, Anthropometrics, Ergonomics and
Their Relationship with Design
There are few situations in which a product is designed specifically for a single individual. For
example, luxury items that are custom built for people with a great deal of money. Moreover,
there a number of individuals who rely on these luxury custom built items due to disabilities and
unique physical characteristics. However, the majority of the products and spaces today are
designed with the whole population in mind. These products must be designed to be adequate for a
population of users. Most of the time with adjustability or a range of heights and sizing.
We all understand the need that clothing must be manufactured in a large range of sizes. Due to...

This information can contribute to the design and evaluation of tasks, jobs, spaces, and
environments to make them the most compatible with the limitations, disabilities, and needs of the
general population.
In conclusion, Anthropometrics is the study of the sizes of people in relation to products and
spaces manufactured. Human Factors or Ergonomics is the relationship between people and the
products in which they use. Moreover, Anthropometric data is used to help designers and design
products meet ergonomic needs.
Although Anthropometrics and Ergonomics are primarily scientific fields, designers should be
aware of these human factors to ensure their product and spaces are safe and socially responsible.
These studies allow designers to accommodate the vast majority of the population so as many
people as possible can use and interact with the product or space. Good designers observe these
qualities first because no one wants to use or own a product that carries out a task poorly or
dangerously. In conclusion, designers should always rely on and research anthropometric and
ergonomic data when designing functional spaces and

The primary objective of this research is to examine the transfer effect of the celebrity endorsements
on the attitude towards advertisements, brand and its sales.
1.1Background of the Study
Consumers want to be reassured that the decision of buying a specific brand is sensible and would
pay off while consuming the product/brand. Most of the times advertising helps consumers come
out of the state of cognitive dissonance and satisfy with their decision of buying a particular brand.
Celebrity endorsements can help consumers achieve this state of satisfaction. Celebrity
endorsements have long been used to convince consumers to buy products. It s an effective method
of creating value, recognition and credibility for a brand

Essay on Exposure Therapy Compared to Other Therapies
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), specifically exposure therapy, has garnered a great deal of
empirical support in the literature for the treatment of anxiety disorders (Gerardi et al., 2010).
Exposure therapy is an established PTSD treatment (Chambless Ollendick, 2001) and so is a
benchmark for comparing other therapies (Taylor et al, 2003). Exposure therapy typically involves
the patient repeatedly confronting the feared stimulus in a graded manner, either in imagination or
in vivo. Emotional processing is an essential component of exposure therapy (Gerardi et al., 2010).
Exposure therapy in the virtual environment allows the participant to experience a sense of
presence in an immersive, computer generated, three dimensional,... Show more content on

The patients used it this design were outpatients referred in 1992 through 1995 by professionals,
Victim Support, police, ambulance, fire services, and even the subjects themselves. The criteria
that had to be met in order for the subjects to be used in this study were as followed: PTSD for 6
or more months; age of 16 to 65 years; and absence of melancholia or suicidal intent, organic
brain disease, past or present psychosis, antidepressant drug (unless the patient had been
receiving a stable dose for 3 or more months); and diazepam in a dose of 10 mg/d or more or
equivalent, ingestion of 30 or more alcohol units a week, and past exposure or cognitive therapy
for PTSD (Marks et al., 1998). The therapist used a procedure manual and 4 treatment manuals
which covered each session in each treatment condition. The sessions were audiotaped and each
individual session lasted either 90 minutes or 105 minutes in Exposure Combined with Cognitive
Restructuring (EC) therapy. The therapists that were used were a nurse therapist and a clinical
psychologist. In sessions 1 through 5 of Exposure Therapy subjects were asked to imagine their
previous trauma memories. Patients were asked to talk in first person tense about what they
experienced, and then were asked to imagine and describe critical aspects of the trauma and rewind

United Nations Development Programme Human Development
The Japanese are an ancient people whose history dates before Common Era, and may date
farther back than we can possibly know. Their history is full of civil wars, invasions, and
conquering other nations, so it was essentially a war fueled country. Yet one should not think of
the Japanese people as barbaric warriors who only fought for fun, as they fought for survival. The
Island of Japan does not have a lot of natural resources, so the Japanese took to warfare to feed
their families and support their country. Now Japan has evolved into one of the most advanced
countries around, with a life expectancy at 83!these facts on Japan were found on the website of

This type of physical environment is a particularly healthy one with people being exposed to
trees and fresh air blowing in from the sea rather than the smog staying overhead like some
gloomy cloud that we are accustomed too in Southern California. Since most of the country is
covered by mountains it is extremely hard to farm, so people took to the sea to find food, and
with that Japan had created a food so unique it is still eaten today and that is sushi. Sushi became
such a popular food due to the idea of its freshness, meaning that the fish is still fresh since it is
served raw to you, and as Americans we tend to associate freshness with healthiness. With this
idea of having a healthy body the Japanese are one of the healthiest countries as Benjamin H
Senauer in his writings of Why Is the Obesity Rate So Low in Japan and High in the U.S.? Some
Possible Economic Explanations Only 3.6 percent of Japanese have a body mass index (BMI)
over 30, which is the international standard for obesity, whereas 32.0 percent of Americans do. A
total of 66.5 percent of Americans have a BMI over 25, making them overweight, but only 24.7
percent of Japanese. This has to deal with the fact that Japanese children walk or take other modes
of physical transportation places, for example; bikes, skateboards, roller skates, or just simply
running. These types of healthy habits are kept throughout adulthood and are

The Locust And The Bird My Mother s Story Analysis
All about perspective
It s all about perspective. Each one has his own point of view on life, either according to one s
culture, traditions or even political opinions. Along with these perspectives, comes the
recognition of different identities. Actually, the diversity of the Arab s identity will be shown
according to how others perceive them (using Jackals and Arabs ), how they perceive themselves
(using Hanan El Sheikh s novel: The Locust and The Bird: My Mother s Story ), and finally how
I perceive them according to what I read in Tayeb Salih s novel: Season of Migration to the North .
To begin with, how others perceive the Arabs is a tricky viewpoint to tackle, since it s not at all
objective, and would be influenced by many religious ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Clearly, the religious aspect, in their lives in the village, makes up an important part of their
identities. Actually, lots of references of their religion, Islam, are noted throughout the novel;
every few pages or so The Koran or the act of prayer is mentioned: My father, having finished his
prayers and recitations from the Koran... (Salih, 1969, p.2). Also, they use prayer times as a
reference for their daily schedule. They even interfere religion in most of their social matters; for
example the narrator was asked about the European women and their culture: They say that the
women are unveiled and dance openly with men... , Wad Rayes also posed a question implying
that foreigners are sinners: That they don t marry but a man lives with a woman in sin? (Salih,
1969, p.3). All this shows, how important religion is in their lives. However, a contradiction does
appear between religion and sexuality. For example, many inappropriate sexual references were
made concerning the women and their treatment as pure sex preys. Actually, while sitting with his
neighbors, Wad Rayes confessed of his will to marry so that he can enjoy sexual pleasures once
more: In any case, there s no pleasure like that of fornication (Salih, 1969, p.78). Thus, sexuality
does appear in an awful number of times; let alone Mustafa Saeed s sexual

Lord Of The Flies Simon Character Analysis
In the novel, Lord of the flies, written by William Golding illustrates symbolism through the life of
the boys; therefore we have simon s isolation and piggy s intelligence and jacks chaos.
Body 1 simons isolation
Simon, one of the main characters because of who he is and his feelings toward the whole thing.
He becomes isolated which is important because it shows how he feels. Simon is symbolized as
things such as depression and loneliness which is very important, in the book because there is one
point where simon says to the boys on the beach, which means that he thought about it while the
others did not think about it. He thought about the problem and the things that the boys did he
becomes the beast himself. The story states, maybe we are the beast (Golding). This shows that
simon has thought about it and is thinking about it more as he moves forward and ends up putting
on the pig to show everyone how he feels but ends up getting killed. Simon shut people out because
he was torn between doing the right thing and not doing the right thing. He understands that if he
just goes away that he won t have to be torn. Which shows that he would rather step back and think
and look then to just jump to conclusions. Simon is mature for doing what he did.
This is very important because it shows that people that you say you can trust you can t and they
stab you in the back. Simon is a very important person in the book and always will be. He

The Importance Of Commercial Buildings In The Ottoman Empire
Secondly, commercial buildings were so popular in Cairo because it was already a major trading
point for the Ottoman Empire. The different type of commercial buildings were wikalas, khans,
qaisariyas, suqs, and funduqs. Ismail explains that these type of buildings existed since the
Mameluke Empire period, but they were kept being built during the Ottoman Empire, with some
minor changes.
The wikalas were buildings located within the city walls and had a design that had shops on the
ground floor that faced onto courtyards and a rab system (living quarters) on the upper floors.
Some of the shops from the ground level had special designs in their facades that allowed the
merchants to display the imported goods that they had for sale. The building had only one
entrance per each facade, and each of them led to the open central courtyard that aside from
shops, had storerooms for the merchant s goods. To get access to the upper floors, people had to
use staircases that were usually placed in a corner of the facades (Ismail 2005).
The khans and funduqs were buildings that had combined functions of hostel and trading centre
and were used mostly by traveling merchants and visitors to the city. These buildings were built
mostly near the trading routes outside the city, and they required towers for extra protection,
however, some of them were located inside the city and did not required to be fortified because of
it. A major difference is that these buildings did not had shops in

Impact of GSP Plus Status on Pakiston s Economy Essay
IMPACTS OF GSP PLUS STATUS ON PAKISTAN S ECONOMY
During last days Pakistan succeeded to secure the long awaited duty free access to the European
markets for four years, by winning Generalized Scheme of Preferences (GSP) Plus status with an
impressive count of votes.
The EU s Generalized Scheme of Preferences (GSP) gives developing countries a vital access to
EU markets and contributes to their economic growth by allowing their exporters to pay lower
duties on their exports to the EU.
GSP PLUS status will allow 20 per cent of Pakistani products to enter 27 EU countries without any

Further government needs to formulate a comprehensive policy to salvage the textile industry
because exporters and manufacturers will not benefit from GSP Plus trade facility if facing the
problems like chronic energy shortages, high cost of production, , worsening law and order and
uncompetitiveness in international markets.
Pakistan have to overcome complacency, inefficiency, corruption, bureaucratic bottlenecks,
infrastructure problems and energy crisis to fully exploit the potential of the GSP plus status that
has recently been given to it by the European Union, said Syed Jawaid Iqbal, Chairman, SouthAsia
Forum.
The status quo also raises questions over the country s ability and preparedness to meet the
demand for textile products of EU countries and benefit fully from the GSP Plus status. Cotton s
local demand is expected to be increasing as Domestic Textile industry may require additional
quantity of million cotton bales during the year. Cotton prices are also increased to Rs.100/Munds
in the local market. These prices might further increase due to restoration of gas supply to Punjab
base textile mills. Cotton production for the next year is also estimated as 13millions bales against
the need of 15million bales to meet post GSP Textile export targets. In Faisalabad almost 50% of
the textile units in textile have been shut down due to cuts in gas

Spanish Conquest Essay
Spanish Conquest of the Aztecs Have you ever about ripping out a human s still beating heart? If
not, you would not fit in with the Aztecs. The Aztecs were a Mesoamerican Empire that rose in
power in the post classic period. From the 1300 s 1521, the Aztecs continued to increase their
population and their influence in the Mesoamerican region, despite the upcoming nearby empires,
such as the Tlaxcalan empire. This all changed with the arrival of the Spaniard, Hernan Cortez.
Cortez was a Spanish conquistador under the rule of Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand. Cortez
contributed for the downfall of many empires, including the Aztecs. Even though conquering was
not a part of the Catholics religion. The ancient Aztecs followed their religious beliefs more closely
than did the Spanish Catholic Hernan Cortez. Unlike the Spanish,
The Aztecs believed that there were many gods that contributed to everyday life patron god,

Tenochtitlan, Cortez only had about 500 men who followed him. And he knew that the Aztecs
had hundreds of thousands of soldiers at their disposal. So, Cortez invaded outside villages and
forced men to join him. If they refused he would kill them and their family. Displaying how little

America As A Melting Pot
As soon as someone calls the United States a melting pot, I immediately picture the School House
Rock music video in which hundreds of happy immigrants dive into the pot to swim together in
harmony. The idea of America as a melting pot is, on the surface, a good intentioned metaphor that
carries with it the implication of our unity within one, uniquely American culture. Unfortunately,
this metaphor carries negative connotations as well, including forced assimilation into the majority
as you melt away into the mix. Imagine five pieces of chocolate, one white, added to a heated
saucepan; eventually, it all turns brown. Despite the multiplicity of cultures added to this melting
pot, something is lost in the final product: diversity. In a melting pot, it is suggested that we blend
together; we are indistinct; we are Americans united in one culture, one language, one creed.
Simply stated, this is not an accurate representation of our country s culture or its citizens. I find
the stew to be a much more appropriate metaphor. Even when heated and stirred, a stew maintains
its individual elements (potatoes, beef, onions, carrots, celery, etc.), but also allows for some
transfer of flavors. The beef flavor is infused with notes of carrot and onion; the carrots have the
added flavors of the broth and beef. The stew continues to have unique, individual elements, but it
tastes better in tangent with other flavors. This is a more fitting description of America, as citizens

Open skies is an international policy concept which calls for the liberalization of rules and

market for the airline industry. Its primary objectives are: to liberalize the rules for international

A Summary OfThe Lion The Witch And The Wardrobe
The White Witch
The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe (Lewis, 1978) has many biblical connections. However the
one that stuck out the most was the White Witch being the representation of Satan. This imagery is
seen in her history, her presence, and the weapons she uses.
The White Witch has a history seen very shortly in The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe(Lewis,
1978). In the book, the White Witch prefers to be called Jadis Queen of Narnia (Lewis, 1978, p 64)
Jadis means long ago, of old or witch (Campbell, n.d. ). So, the name she prefers means the witch
from long ago. She has a big ego, however her true name is Lilith. C.S. Lewis took the tale of
Lilith, the first wife of Adam who rebelled (The Story of Lilith, n.d.), and planted her in his story.
In his story, however, she is a bit different. Jadis is part Jinn and part giant (Lewis, 1978, p 88). A
jinn is a type of demon so her type of species can be put together to mean a giant demon. So the
big demon is implying that biggest bad which is Satan. Lilith also comes into the story as the
emperor s hangman, You know that every traitor belongs to me as my lawful prey and that for
every treachery I have a right to a kill. (Lewis, 1978, p ?). In the story, she was given this job
because she was the first person to betray the emperor . This role is a representation of Satan, as
those who betray and turn away from God go to Satan. Once you are with Satan everything seems
better but then the truth behind the beauty is

schools and and officers use the internet for learning and finding out nice and interesting things
with it. I also said no because there is a lot of new bad things that people put on the internet.
Most people that have gotten hurt by people on the internet have said things that aren t nice and
hurtful to them. It can cause those people that got hurt on the internet to make them lose their
life because they can t deal with the pain that they did to them. When you put something on the
internet, you can never get it off the internet. When you put something on the internet , can t get
rid of it. Yeah, you can delete stuff, but it won t totally go off the internet. Because there always
a place where you can find you deleted. Then you will get in big trouble for what you did. So
you should never put something bad on there then delete because people can find it. Why is
technology bad for you? Why it is not the beast for you because electronics our something that
you like to look at it all day. The screens on your phones, Ipads and computers our not that good
for your brain. That is why you should not be on your phone or any type of electronic at all for a
long period of time. This is why you should be on your phone, ipad and computers for a long
period of time. Can business use lot of internet for their business. Yes, because in the military, they

Themes In I Am Legend
Dystopian movies are based on an unpleasant society and often themes that play out in reality.
Stories are built on universal storytelling elements and literary devices as they intertwine with the
central theme of the story. In the dystopian movie, I Am Legend by Francis Lawrence the
primary theme of loss of humanity is delivered in a manner that reflects these elements. This
movie is ultimately based on a disease that affected the population of New York and the finding
of the cure. Reaching the reader s emotions, symbolism, heroic scenarios and interesting ways in
which a story is told structure this movie and play off of the theme of loss in humanity. Sam,
Robert Neville s dog symbolizes the reflection of loss in humanity with the use of reaching the
reader s emotions as Sam serves as Roberts primary companion in the movie I Am Legend. This
plays an important role within the story because Sam belonged to Roberts daughter Marley. In a
flashback Marley had given her father Sam in hopes of her caring for her Father just before
Marley and her Mother had passed away, in that moment Marley had exchanged her last words
with the puppy. Sam you take care of Daddy, (Francis Lawrence) This was a form of her security
blanket in hopes that Sam could secure her Father. This quote relates to the theme of loss in
humanity because they were preparing for that moment of loss. In the real world, often when we
are faced with the loss of another who plays an important role in our

Was The Tiananmen Massacre Justified
From my perspective, the Tiananmen massacre of 1989 was not justified. The students and
protestors protested because they had a strong agreement of opposition about their current Chinese
government system that needed to be addressed. They wanted democracy for more individual rights
and freedom. Even though illegal organizations were violating laws such as forcibly occupying the
Tiananmen Square and vandalizing establishments, it does not justify the poor government attempt
to control the riots with fully armed military soldiers. The government, Chinese Communist Party
and the military was suppose to improve Chinas economy and unity, and serve the citizens. Instead
they ended up massacring civilians and fueling the already violent protest (rioters

Online Shopping Advantages And Disadvantages
Online shopping has made life a lot easier and less complicated, not to forget that it also is a time
saver. But with every good, there s the bad. The advantages of online shopping on Amazon is
that it s convenient for lazy people, they can order what they want without actually stepping out
of the house, it s less time consuming, cheaper than what s in stores and it offers a lot of
choices, trusted reviews and it sometimes offers products that are no longer in shop racks or
products that don t have a shop and only operate online and with a CEO like Jeff Bezos there is
no such thing as a bad review about the service that is offered, simply because he believes that
all their customers should be treated in a very high manner. Delay of delivery is a disadvantage,
you re not given an exact duration of when or how long the delivery of your order and many more
disadvantages will be further discussed.

The Themes of Love and Loss in My Last Duchess, La Belle Dame Sans Merci, When we Two
Parted, and Villegiature
Works Cited Missing
The poems, My Last Duchess , La Belle Dame Sans Merci and When We Two Parted and
Villegiature by Robert Browning (1812 1889), John Keats (1795 1821), Lord Byron (1788 1824)
and Edith Nesbit (1858 1924) respectively, have all been written in the nineteenth century. All these
poems deal with the different aspects of love and the different attitudes of lovers towards their
beloved, after parting or during times away from each other (Villegiature).

But, what people in such relationships fail to realise until it is too late is the downside to this sort
of relationship, not only for the dominated , but also for the dominating , as such an obsession
with ruling over another eventually led the Duke to murder his wife. Though most people would
not have taken as drastic a measure as the Duke, the poet probably uses such a negatively powerful
result to emphasize on the harmful aspects of such a relationship. Also, this poem follows a strict
rhyme scheme and has a conversational rhythm. It is written in iambic pentameter, which probably
conveys the conflict within himself between what he says and what he really is a murderer!
Furthermore, this sort of communion does not hold many positive aspects for the partner who lets
himself/herself be controlled by the other either. In La Belle Dame Sans Merci , the knight says,
And that is why I sojourn here/Alone and palely loitering/Though the sedge has wither d from the
lake/And no birds sing , the sad condition of the knight here emphasizes on the downbeat to this
type of love and the sad, lonely image (from winter) is used to create a greater impact on the reader.

Hot Stuff Analysis
Many historians regard the 60 s as the decade of positive change, particularly for minority
groups. As a result the 1970s, which followed the socially impactful 60 s, are often seen as the
decade where nothing happened or, more specifically, nothing good happened . Edward
Berkowitz attempts to break this nothing happened stigma through his novel, appropriately
named Something Happened. The decade of the oil crisis, the Watergate scandal, and the Iranian
hostage crisis, also provided legislative progress for many minority groups. Thomas Borstelmann
acknowledges the decade s formal equality but is wary to accept that society was as progressive.
Alice Echols however, asserts that the decade s dance phenomenon expanded social equality, in
her novel Hot Stuff. Echols and Berkowitz unanimously feel the 70 s made way for increased
acceptance of minority groups; despite disagreeing on which minority groups benefitted.
Borstelmann provides a much more skeptical analysis stating the 70s provided formal equality
while ...private prejudice and its very real negative impacts still endured Alice Echols applauds the
influence the 70s had on inclusion of previously underrepresented groups; women, homosexuals
and African Americans. The 1970s are associated with identity politics, but they were also a time
when numbers of gay men, African Americans, and women ditched predictable social script. Echols
analysis of the decade is presented through the lens of her own

A Brief Note On The Canadian Charter Of Rights And Freedoms
Proper housing is crucial to a human being s wellbeing, both mentally and physically. It is
fundamental in ensuring good mental health, physical health, and it sets the basis for social
inclusion in society. Housing is necessary for human beings to be able to survive and be able to
protect themselves from the elements. It is recognized as a basic human need alongside food and
water; thus, it is surprising that an estimated minimum of 235,000 people in a developed country
like Canada remain homeless and an estimated one in five people cannot afford housing
(Heffernan, Tracy; Faraday, Fay; and Rosenthal, Peter, 2015). Statistics such as these beg the
question of whether or not the right to housing or the right to affordable housing is recognized in
Canada. The answer to this question is quite complicated as there is no clear right in the Canadian
Charter of Rights and Freedomsthat recognizes a specific right to housing or shelter, however,
under section 7 and section 15 of the charter which state that Everyone has the right to life, liberty
and security of the person and the right not to be deprived thereof except in accordance with the
principles of fundamental justice and Every individual is equal before and under the law and has
the right to the equal protection and equal benefit of the law without discrimination and, in
particular, without discrimination based on race, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, sex, age

Sexual Assault In Schools
While a great deal of crimes go unreported in the United States, by far the most common is sexual
assault. While this crime is usually associated with women being the victims, men can also be
assaulted. Sexual assault is different from other crimes, in that the victims often feel like it is their
fault that the crimehappened. The majority of these victims are attending college, and are on
campus when the crime takes place. A multitude of colleges in the past have been pushing sexual
assaultcases under the rug. Recently, new laws and efforts have been made so that people are

Huck Finn Analysis
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is a sequel to the book Tom Sawyer written by Mark
Twain, where the main character, Huck Finn, was first introduced. The book had actually taken
a whole 7 years to write. Mark Twain could not think of how to continue the story after the part
where Huck and Jim accidentally went too far past Cairo in the fog. Mark Twain has said that
the character of Huck Finn is based upon a real life child that Twain once knew, a man named
Tom Blankenship. This story is mainly about the growing and adventurous friendship between
Huck and Jim. Huck, who is also the narrator, has his many very wild and adventurous traits. You
could maybe say that he is a bit of a troublemaker, but also he is a very respectful and outgoing
young man. Also, he has characteristics of the way he, himself views the world around him,
which are very smart, sneaky, clever and unique ways. He doesn t have much of an education
but is a very street smart kid, who even outsmarts mostly all of the adults he encounters.
Throughout the book, a major symbol is expressed, which is Huck and Jim floating down the
river together. The river symbolizes the freedom that they now have and the river gives the story
a peaceful mindset, and that as long as they are out floating on the raft they will be free for the
most part and free of any worries or stress. The freedom that the river casts upon Huck and Jim is
very unique and significant to their adventures. Before they both escaped from their

Cardiovascular Regulation Of Plasma Volume
In order to study the kidney s regulation of plasma volume, osmolality, and pH, the changes in
urine flow rate, specific density, and urine pH of adult human subjects were measured. Subjects
were assigned one of four beverage options: water, Gatorade, Coke, or nothing. Beverages of
different compositions were used to study what effects does fluid intake have on urinevolume and
composition. Subjects fasted five hours prior to the experiment, in which the subjects were required
to void and test their own urine every thirty minutes for 120 minutes after ingesting the beverage
they were assigned. The urine volume, specific gravity, and urine pH were measured for each void.
The subjects were instructed to fast five hours prior to the experiment and were allowed to drink
only eight ounces of water if necessary (Manuguid et al., 2015). Avoiding food or drink rendered
the subjects in a similar physiological state at the start of the experiment. This is important because
the consumption of food or drink shortly before the experiment may affect the volume and
composition of the urine voided, which would have affected the results. If a subject had ingested a
considerable amount of fluid an hour before the experiment, their urine volume for their first void
could have been greater than expected. The amount of liquid the subjects ingested depended on
their body weight. As a result, the amounts of liquid ingested varied within the drinking groups. At

September 11 And Skyscrapers
Why do people want to build in the sky? Skyscrapers are the most iconic symbol of the city and
are amazing landscapes created by humans who reach the clouds and ignore gravity. It
implements human aspirations that we want to build a much higher level of buildings. There is
no doubt that constructing tall buildings is not something new. The most important things while
raising buildings higher are its structural design and life safety for people living or working
inside the buildings. Today, as the building is touching to the sky, occupants of buildings are
worried more and more about how safe the building is. The major concerns regarding tall
building are unplanned fire and terrorist attack. The 43rd president George W. Bush quoted in
results to 9/11, Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings, but they
cannot touch the foundation of America. These acts shatter steel, but they cannot dent the steel of
American resolve . As prospective engineers look to the future, we have the opportunity to learn
the very lesson by understanding the collapse of the WTC Towers. In the years 9/11, the time
after has arisen to learn and improve the design of future tall buildings against fire induced
collapse. The building we build inspires us and reflects on who we are. The collapse of the World

Music Is All Around Us
Music is all around us. At the start of the 21st century, technology in industrialised societies
provides us with easy access to a vast amount of recorded music. We can listen to our favourite
music at home, in the car, on the train; on home stereos, personal stereos, and through our
computers. We are also often surrounded by musicwhich we have not chosen, at the shops, waiting
for a train, even at the doctor s.
Research is beginning to show how music has the power to change the way we feel, think, and
behave. We know that music can lift our mood, and certain kinds of music can temporarily boost
specific kinds of intelligence. Listening to our favourite music can even help us tolerate high levels
of pain.
What do we know about how young children engage with music? There has been quite a lot of
research looking at the very early years. We know that babies can remember music from even
before birth. My own study with the Child of Our Time group in 2001 showed that exposure to a
particular piece of music before birth had long lasting effects, as the babies seemed to prefer
listening to that music up to 15 months after birth. Other studies have explored the features of
maternal singing, showing how this can make the baby feel calm.
There are also studies of babies responses to music in the lab that show them to be really very
sophisticated listeners. In their first year, babies can notice all kinds of small differences in musical
sequences, and are even better than

as to why people desperately tried to escape from the oppression they faced. Intense raids took
place and police officers tortured innocent people. According to Haver, the army in Guatemala
accused villagers of being communists and later, people began to disappear and some were
violently murdered. Many people like Estevan and Esperanza feared that the government, army, or

In Deborah Tannen s essay I ll Explain It to You: Lecturing and Listening , she asserts the belief that
even though men and women speak the same structural language, their motivations for speech and
conversational patterns are very different. In the earlier years of development, Tannen observes that
girls use speech to find confirmation and establish intimacy, whereas boys use speech to assert their
independence and attain social status. After transitioning to adulthood, women find themselves
bored and constantly nodding as men lecture them. Tannen provides specific observations of gender
communication that portrays women as passive reactors in a conversationand men as the dominant

to Tannen s views, I was first to introduce myself and make sure the focus of the conversation did
not shift solely to one person. When holding a conversation, it would help to be educated on the
topic in order to make it more intellectually stimulating. If one is educated, one can respond
thoughtfully to the topic, and can therefore engage in, and sometimes lead, the discussion.
Tannen, however, suggests that expertise does not guarantee women center stage in discussion.
She noted that if women were experts on the topic, they were quick to hide it and in doing so,
the non expert male became the dominant force in the discussion. When I have expertise
knowledge on a subject, I tend to draw upon it as much as possible. I was once involved in a

is necessary because there are numerous many cases of rape and incest, and because of the
circumstances, abortion must be an option. Since I had expertise knowledge on the subject, I was

that the numbers were clearly over exaggerated in order to gain empathy. As the debate persisted, it

The Construction Of Red Black Trees
1 Introduction
In recent years, much research has been devoted to the construction of red black trees; nevertheless,
few have refined the confusing unification of Internet QoS and active networks [3,13,23,18,8]. The
impact on random robotics of this has been adamantly opposed. An essential problem in hardware
and architecture is the synthesis of checksums. To what extent can hash tables be developed to
address this question?
Statisticians never enable the Turing machine in the place of robots. Such a hypothesis is mostly a
confirmed aim but fell in line with our expectations. Indeed, Web services [22] and public private
key pairs have a long history of interacting in this manner. Indeed, operating systems [30] and RAID
have a long history of interacting in this manner [35,22,19,33]. The basic tenet of this method is the
visualization of hierarchical databases.
Another essential riddle in this area is the emulation of cache coherence. It should be noted that
LactylMuset locates local area networks. However, large scale configurations might not be the
panacea that systems engineers expected. Even though similar approaches improve the memory
bus, we achieve this goal without harnessing the compelling unification of operating systems and
context free grammar.
LactylMuset, our new heuristic for perfect archetypes, is the solution to all of these grand
challenges. The disadvantage of this type of method, however, is that the foremost large scale

Dbq Who Killed Reconstruction Essay
Do you ever wonder who really killed Reconstruction? Reconstruction was the period between 1865
1877 where the North was trying to help African Americans gain political equality. Reconstruction
gave freedmen their freedom through the 13th amendment, citizenship and civil rights through the
14th amendment, and the right to vote for the 15th amendment. People such as carpetbaggers,
Northerners who went south to help with Reconstruction and scalawags, southern whites who
supported Reconstruction, were supporters of Reconstruction. However, many white supremacist
groups such as the Ku Klux Klan didn t and even tried to intimidate freedmen and Republicans to
try to bring an end to Reconstruction and equal rights for freed slaves. From this, it shows that
Reconstruction died of two causes, northern neglect and southern resistance. However, I think
northern neglect was the primary cause of the end of Reconstruction.... Show more content on

The Floppy Drive in a Musical Context Essay
1.1Mechanism of a musical floppy drive The floppy drive itself is musical in a certain way
depending on what people may perceive as musical such as the sound of friction. In my project,
the floppy drive makes sounds through pitched notes due to friction between the read write head
and the diskette. It produces notes since the diskette has contact friction with read write head, in
revolution. Recall that sine waves can be viewed as the progression of a circle over time, or a
revolution. Spinning at higher speeds increases the pitch and also the frequency. The spindle motor
spins the floppy drive at a certain speed controlled by the microcontroller. Then, read write head
will be positioned on the diskette with a drive motor that will... Show more content on

In resume, we produce sound by using a floppy drive, a computer and a microcontroller. Simply
convert properly and if there is contact between the read write head and the diskette itself, it will
produce an audible pitch. 1.2The use of floppy drive music in musical context Floppy music is
quite good to listen to in my opinion. However, some might consider it as not musical due its
lack of musical characteristic as the floppy drive was not invented to be a musical instrument
but a disk reader. It also does not make any musical association with most people since floppy
drives are associated with computers and electronics. The contexts where this type of instrument
might be considered musical in my opinion would be the internet, a creative project and certain
performances. It has never been used formally as an instrument, however, due to the tesla coils
success in concerts, I speculate that introducing floppy drive music would be a success since
most YouTube videos with a musical floppy drive have pretty high number of views and critics
have been grateful the singing tesla coils. Musical diskette readers should be possible since there
are a few bands that try to implement a new experience in the audience by using new instruments
that are not associated with music like tesla coils. It turns out to be accepted by a restricted to a

Thucydides And Thucydides History And Warfare
Herodotus and Thucydides were historians who dramatically influenced the way we look at Greek
history and warfare. The two historians approach their stories in completely different ways, which
ultimately leads to different explanations of the origins of conflict. Herodotus focuses on recalling
the origins of the Ionian Revolt, the rise of the Persian Empire, and the Persian Wars with Greece,
while Thucydides writes about the Peloponnesian War. M.I. Finely suggests, in the introduction of
Thucydides book that Thucydides is complementing Herodotus by beginning where Herodotus left
off (Finley, History of the Peloponnesian War p.16). Although these two historians approach the
start of conflicts in different ways, it seems that Thucydides is not suggesting that Herodotus
explanations are wrong. While evaluating conflicts of warfare, Herodotus provides a less bias
perspective than Thucydides, but Thucydides is able to understand the underlying causes of wars
better due to the fact that he is writing about warfare that he was alive for. Thucydides conveniently
opens up his book by explaining his methodology. The Athenian tells the readers that his motivation
for writing the book was ignited by a sense that the war fought between Athens and Spartawould be
important (Thuc. 1.1). The reader should be aware of the biases that Thucydides includes in his
writing, due to the fact that he is an Athenian writing about an Athenian war. Thucydides portrays
Greece as the most important

Personal Narrative On Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde
I admit it. I had become smitten with my esteemed and beloved physics professor who made the
mechanics of matter and energy astoundingly simple and beautiful. As the hours I had spent with
him. Yet, my heart remained wary. He would never be fully available to me. Since, from all
appearances, he and his wife were content.
Meanwhile, Mark and I had grown further apart. His demanding academic curriculum put stress
on him. So, to lessen his anxiety, he smoked marijuana daily. However, to stay alert for class, he
drank cups of coffee, as well. The combination caused his temperament to fluctuate between being
spaced out vs. extreme agitation. He d quarrel with his professors when they refused to let him pass
in assignments late. He had done it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And then, gave excuses why it wasn t possible. The job market is competitive. And that it s
important that I stay put and make an effort to network. All true, he said. But you deserve a break.
When you come, we ll celebrate your birthday with cake and champagne. My guest house is vacant
and ready for you.
With that, I decided. How can I refuse a man who remembered my birthday? And who has a plan,
and the desire to make me happy? Even so, I wondered had he become a New Age guru and
abandoned his teaching position at the university. Besides, what about his wife, would she welcome
me, as well.
Also, the city of Berkeley was loaded with memories drenched with drama. Through the years, I
had buried them deep inside my psyche. It s true that every street, restaurant, cafГ© or night spot
would be a roadmap to dislodge them.
Even so, I was willing to throw caution to the wind. Since Malcolm and I had been more than
friends. Once, we were two people in love, though, not solely with each other. It was complicated.
Still, I wanted to revisit him again. And, to leave behind L.A. the city where the dreams I dreamed
as a younger woman had dissipated into the hot ethers of the Santa Ana winds perhaps never to
return again. Okay, I replied. I can t

Perseverance Reflection
When I first started to think about what the theme of my lesson was going to be, I immediately
thought about my preschool and pre k students that I work with on a daily basis. What are they
learning now? What are some important concepts in life that haven t been taught in depth? What
concept can be difficult to comprehend without implementing drama? These were just some of the
many questions that were going through my head. When I first came across the book The Most
Magnificent Thing by Ashley Speirs, I immediately was captured by the theme of perseverance
in the book. The week that I found the book, I had been working with a student who was trying
to complete a puzzle and she was getting frustrated. I sat down with her and encouraged her to
continue trying and with a little help she completed the puzzle. The look on her face when she
completed that puzzle was electrifying. She was so excited and so proud of herself when she
finally fit that last piece into the puzzle. This experience helped me when choosing the topic of
my monologue because when I came across the book, I realized that the concept of perseverance
would be a perfect concept to teach through the integration of drama. One reason, I felt like the
integration of drama would be so useful in teaching this concept was that many students are
probably able to comprehend the definition of perseverance, but what does perseverance look like?
How does it feel when you persevere? That is where I thought integrating drama

Ichabod Crane Character Analysis
Ichabod Crane s adventure related in The Legend of Sleepy Hollow demonstrates where someone
s unchecked and undesirable personality traits can lead him. Washington Irving wrote The Legend
of Sleepy Hollow in 1820. The story describes how Ichabod Crane persistently frightened himself
by supposing he saw and heard supernatural beings. When Crane competed with Brom Bones for a
lady s love, Bones took advantage of Ichabod Cranes character flaws scaring him out of town by
impersonating the dreaded Headless Horseman. Ichabod Crane s greed, superstition, and
fearfulness resulted in his downfall. Ichabod Crane s greed hindered his relationship with the
townspeople, making some, such as Brom Bones, pleased to expel Crane from town, and others
indifferent to his leaving. Crane had a great gluttonous appetite, so he lived successively a week
at a time in his pupils homes because they could not afford to house such a gourmand (Irving
17). Moreover, he earned the distaste of the town s other men while trying to earn the affections
of Katrina Van Tassel, whom he hoped to marry because of her wealth. He knew if the marriage
occurred, many delicious meals would await him. The pedagogue s mouth watered as he looked
upon this sumptuous promise of luxurious winter fare, (Irving 20). Furthermore, Ichabod Crane s
greed extended even to a love of power, which he executed over his schoolhouse. For slovenly,
naughty, or lazy children, he always had his whip ready. Proudly, he

Benjamin Franklin s Virtues To Create A Perfect Moral Society
One of Benjamin Franklin s goals in life was to create a perfectly moral society. Is there even
such a thing as a perfectly moral society? How would one go about forming this unheard of
thing? Franklin observed people and used his own knowledge to form his list of thirteen virtues,
behaviors that conduct high moral standards. Could these virtues create a perfect society? In
order for Franklin s plan to work, every person must follow all thirteen of these virtues. A benefit
comes from each thing Franklin listed. One of these benefits is creating good citizens. A good
citizen is someone who respects their town, government, and fellow peers. Temperance and
moderation are good qualities to have because that means everyone can control themselves. Silence
also comes in handy because it can keep people from getting offended or hurt by another person s
words. Order keeps everything running smoothly, even in time of disaster. Tranquility can... Show

Chasity is one of the few I would choose to remove. While it does show self control, I do not
believe that determines if you are a good citizen. I also believe moderation could be removed
because it is closely related with temperance. Silence is another thing that can be good at certain
times, but can also be bad at other times. Sometimes people need to speak their opinions;
otherwise, nothing would ever be changed. Everything would stay exactly the same and I don t
think they would be good for society. Cleanliness is also another virtue that does not relate to being
a good citizen. While it does have something to do with your character and appearance, it does
not affect your morals and ability to be a good citizen. These are the only revisions I would
make to Franklin s plan. I see no need for anything else to be removed or added. He covered the
basics, but in some sense he went a little overboard. Although these are good qualities to have, do
they make you a good human

Examples Of Adaptive Traits In An Organbird
ADAPTATION AND TRAITS
One of the adaptive traits that are said to have evolved in the population of an organism is the
beak of the the bird called the Finch. Most notably, birds are similar in the sense that they have
wings yet most birds exhibit differences in size.some birds are small while others are big.One
very importantly feature that make birds distinct is the shape and size of the beak. This is intresting
how birds can be so different yet belong to the same species. however. This is due in part to assist
the birds in the way of feeding in order for the birds to survive in their environment.
Describe what makes this trait an adaptation.
The beak is an adaptive trait that is useful for birds to function in their environment. Adaptations are
traits that developed to perform a certain function and allow organisms to thrive in their
environment. Josephs, M. (n.d.).The passage of certain adaptive traits in an ... Show more content

The beak trait in the Finch is best fitted for the homologous classification.despite the similarities in
the species of the Finch bird, the changes in function of the beaks of the finch clearly show that the
species has gone through divergent evolution
What is convergent and divergent evolution? Describe whether the trait is a result of convergent or
divergent evolution.
According to Convergent evolution. (n.d.).it says this convergent evolution is the process whereby
organisms not closely related (not monophyletic), independently evolve similar traits as a result of
having to adapt to similar environments or ecological niches.
Divergent evolution is the process whereby members of a species become more and more different,
eventually resulting in two (or more) new

Essay on The Theme of Knowledge in Gilgamesh and Genesis
Ancient world literature and early civilization stories are mostly centered on human s relationship
with higher beings. Ancient civilizations were extremely religious, holding the belief that their
very lives were in the hands of their almighty god or goddess. This holds true for both the people
of biblical times as well as those of the epic era. However, their stories have some differences
according to cultural variation but the main structure, ideas, and themes are generally found
correlative. It is hard to believe that one work did not affect the others. The first great heroic epic
poem of Gilgamesh and the Old Testamentare parts of two cultures that are hundreds of years apart.

The divine blesses the righteous and punishes the evil man to remind their limitation and worship to
the God.
In the Book of Genesis, the idea of knowledge emerges throughout punishment. This theme is most
apparent when Adam and Eve deceive God by eating from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and
Evil. When they do this, they are immediately given the ability to discern between right and
wrong. The Old Testament states, The woman saw that the tree was good for food, pleasing to
the eyes, and desirable for gaining knowledge (Genesis 3:6). Promptly Adam and Eve gain
knowledge and realize their nakedness as punishment from God. Likewise in Gilgamesh,
Enkidu, was a wild man before he was seduced by a harlot from Uruk. After his encounter with
harlot he notices his abilities have been greatly suppressed. Enkidu was grown weak, the
narrator tells us, for wisdom was in him, and the thoughts of a man were in his heart. The
woman says to him, You are wise, Enkidu, and now you have become like a god. Why do you
want to run wild with the beasts in the hills? She tells him about strong walled Uruk and the
blessed temple of Ishtar and of Anu, of love and of heaven, and about Gilgamesh himself.
(Gilgamesh page 15). This suppression is from the gods for his acquisition of knowledge. Both Eve
s nakedness and Enkidu s loss of strength demonstrate the gods propensity to punish by

A Life Or Death Situation By Robin Marantz Henig Essay
A Life or Death Situation, by Robin Marantz Henig, New York Times, July, 2013, is a review of
the debate surrounding the right to a dignified death. It examines the purely philosophical view
of the issue; as well as the heart wrenching reality of being faced with that question in one s
personal life. Does a person have a right to choose how he or she dies? How does that choice
impact the people who care about about him or her? Should a person who cares about someone
be required to cause or aide in his or her death? These questions weigh heavy on the minds of
many people, who live with injured, impaired and physically incapable people everyday. I
selected this article, because it is relevant in my life. My sister, passed in August. She had
suffered from lung disease for over 10 years, even though she was totally dependent on the
ventilator, she was conscious and alert. She was weak but, could still walk across the room
unaided. And if it meant that she could go shopping, she would have you pack up the whole house;
3 tanks of oxygen, portable ventilator, suction machine, and wheelchair. Over the course of her
illness, the doctors called us to the familymeeting about a half dozen times. Each time we refused,
and she improved enjoying another 6 to 8 months before a crisis. I am sure that if she were totally
vegetative, that we would have reluctantly let her go, but her time had not come. In the article, the
real life struggle of Margaret Pabst Battin, commonly

  • 2. The Disease Known as Diabetes 8.3 percent of Americans have a disease called diabetes mellitus, also known as diabetes. It is characterized by high blood sugar, brought on either because the pancreas is not producing enough of a hormone called insulin, which helps remove glucose from the blood, or because the cells are unresponsive to the insulinthat is being produced. Three symptoms that result from this high blood sugar are polyuria, or frequent urination, polydipsia, or increased thirst, and polyphagia, or increased appetite. When the body cannot produce insulin, this is called type 1 diabetes. People with this type of diabetes usually have to inject insulin or wear an insulin pump. In contrast, when cells simply cannot use insulin correctly, the patient has type 2 diabetes. This is usually treated by increasing exercise or making adjustments to the diet, which should lower blood sugar. Finally, a third type of diabetes called gestational diabetes occurs only in pregnant women. These women have not been previously diagnosed with diabetes, rather, they have developed high blood sugar during their pregnancy. If not effectively treated by making changes to the diet, gestational diabetes can be a precursor to type 2 diabetes as well as childhood obesity and eventual diabetes in the infant. Of all cases of diabetes, only about five to ten percent are type 1. Even so, more and more people worldwide are being diagnosed every year, and the effects of the disorder are very serious if not severe on both the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Relationship Between Antthropometrics And Ergonomics Human Factors, Anthropometrics, Ergonomics and Their Relationship with Design There are few situations in which a product is designed specifically for a single individual. For example, luxury items that are custom built for people with a great deal of money. Moreover, there a number of individuals who rely on these luxury custom built items due to disabilities and unique physical characteristics. However, the majority of the products and spaces today are designed with the whole population in mind. These products must be designed to be adequate for a population of users. In conclusion, Anthropometrics is the study of the sizes of people in relation to products and spaces manufactured. Human Factors or Ergonomics is the relationship between people and the products in which they use. Moreover, Anthropometric data is used to help designers and design products meet ergonomic needs. Although Anthropometrics and Ergonomics are primarily scientific fields, designers should be aware of these human factors to ensure their product and spaces are safe and socially responsible. These studies allow designers to accommodate the vast majority of the population so as many people as possible can use and interact with the product or space. Good designers observe these qualities first because no one wants to use or own a product that carries out a task poorly or dangerously. • 5. Essay on Exposure Therapy Compared to Other Therapies Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), specifically exposure therapy, has garnered a great deal of empirical support in the literature for the treatment of anxiety disorders (Gerardi et al., 2010). Exposure therapy is an established PTSD treatment (Chambless Ollendick, 2001) and so is a benchmark for comparing other therapies (Taylor et al, 2003). Exposure therapy typically involves the patient repeatedly confronting the feared stimulus in a graded manner, either in imagination or in vivo. Emotional processing is an essential component of exposure therapy (Gerardi et al., 2010). Exposure therapy in the virtual environment allows the participant to experience a sense of presence in an immersive, computer generated, three dimensional,... The patients used it this design were outpatients referred in 1992 through 1995 by professionals, Victim Support, police, ambulance, fire services, and even the subjects themselves. The criteria that had to be met in order for the subjects to be used in this study were as followed: PTSD for 6 or more months; age of 16 to 65 years; and absence of melancholia or suicidal intent, organic brain disease, past or present psychosis, antidepressant drug (unless the patient had been receiving a stable dose for 3 or more months); and diazepam in a dose of 10 mg/d or more or equivalent, ingestion of 30 or more alcohol units a week, and past exposure or cognitive therapy for PTSD (Marks et al., 1998). The therapist used a procedure manual and 4 treatment manuals which covered each session in each treatment condition. The sessions were audiotaped and each individual session lasted either 90 minutes or 105 minutes in Exposure Combined with Cognitive Restructuring (EC) therapy. The therapists that were used were a nurse therapist and a clinical psychologist. In sessions 1 through 5 of Exposure Therapy subjects were asked to imagine their previous trauma memories. Patients were asked to talk in first person tense about what they experienced, and then were asked to imagine and describe critical aspects of the trauma and rewind and hold ... Their history is full of civil wars, invasions, and conquering other nations, so it was essentially a war fueled country. Yet one should not think of the Japanese people as barbaric warriors who only fought for fun, as they fought for survival. The Island of Japan does not have a lot of natural resources, so the Japanese took to warfare to feed their families and support their country. Now Japan has evolved into one of the most advanced countries around, with a life expectancy at 83!these facts on Japan were found on the website of United Nations Development Programme Human Development Reports. This type of physical environment is a particularly healthy one with people being exposed to trees and fresh air blowing in from the sea rather than the smog staying overhead like some gloomy cloud that we are accustomed too in Southern California. Since most of the country is covered by mountains it is extremely hard to farm, so people took to the sea to find food, and with that Japan had created a food so unique it is still eaten today and that is sushi. Sushi became such a popular food due to the idea of its freshness, meaning that the fish is still fresh since it is served raw to you, and as Americans we tend to associate freshness with healthiness. With this idea of having a healthy body the Japanese are one of the healthiest countries as Benjamin H Senauer in his writings of Why Is the Obesity Rate So Low in Japan and High in the U.S.? Some Possible Economic Explanations Only 3.6 percent of Japanese have a body mass index (BMI) over 30, which is the international standard for obesity, whereas 32.0 percent of Americans do. A total of 66.5 percent of Americans have a BMI over 25, making them overweight, but only 24.7 percent of Japanese. This has to deal with the fact that Japanese children walk or take other modes of physical transportation places, for example; bikes, skateboards, roller skates, or just simply running. Each one has his own point of view on life, either according to one s culture, traditions or even political opinions. Along with these perspectives, comes the recognition of different identities. Actually, the diversity of the Arab s identity will be shown according to how others perceive them (using Jackals and Arabs ), how they perceive themselves (using Hanan El Sheikh s novel: The Locust and The Bird: My Mother s Story ), and finally how I perceive them according to what I read in Tayeb Salih s novel: Season of Migration to the North . To begin with, how others perceive the Arabs is a tricky viewpoint to tackle, since it s not at all objective, and would be influenced by many religious ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Clearly, the religious aspect, in their lives in the village, makes up an important part of their identities. Actually, lots of references of their religion, Islam, are noted throughout the novel; every few pages or so The Koran or the act of prayer is mentioned: My father, having finished his prayers and recitations from the Koran... (Salih, 1969, p.2). Also, they use prayer times as a reference for their daily schedule. They even interfere religion in most of their social matters; for example the narrator was asked about the European women and their culture: They say that the women are unveiled and dance openly with men... , Wad Rayes also posed a question implying that foreigners are sinners: That they don t marry but a man lives with a woman in sin? (Salih, 1969, p.3). All this shows, how important religion is in their lives. However, a contradiction does appear between religion and sexuality. For example, many inappropriate sexual references were made concerning the women and their treatment as pure sex preys. Actually, while sitting with his neighbors, Wad Rayes confessed of his will to marry so that he can enjoy sexual pleasures once more: In any case, there s no pleasure like that of fornication (Salih, 1969, p.78). Body 1 simons isolation Simon, one of the main characters because of who he is and his feelings toward the whole thing. He becomes isolated which is important because it shows how he feels. Simon is symbolized as things such as depression and loneliness which is very important, in the book because there is one point where simon says to the boys on the beach, which means that he thought about it while the others did not think about it. He thought about the problem and the things that the boys did he becomes the beast himself. The story states, maybe we are the beast (Golding). This shows that simon has thought about it and is thinking about it more as he moves forward and ends up putting on the pig to show everyone how he feels but ends up getting killed. Simon shut people out because he was torn between doing the right thing and not doing the right thing. He understands that if he just goes away that he won t have to be torn. Which shows that he would rather step back and think and look then to just jump to conclusions. Simon is mature for doing what he did. • 9. The Importance Of Commercial Buildings In The Ottoman Empire Secondly, commercial buildings were so popular in Cairo because it was already a major trading point for the Ottoman Empire. The different type of commercial buildings were wikalas, khans, qaisariyas, suqs, and funduqs. Ismail explains that these type of buildings existed since the Mameluke Empire period, but they were kept being built during the Ottoman Empire, with some minor changes. The wikalas were buildings located within the city walls and had a design that had shops on the ground floor that faced onto courtyards and a rab system (living quarters) on the upper floors. Some of the shops from the ground level had special designs in their facades that allowed the merchants to display the imported goods that they had for sale. The building had only one entrance per each facade, and each of them led to the open central courtyard that aside from shops, had storerooms for the merchant s goods. To get access to the upper floors, people had to use staircases that were usually placed in a corner of the facades (Ismail 2005). The khans and funduqs were buildings that had combined functions of hostel and trading centre and were used mostly by traveling merchants and visitors to the city. These buildings were built mostly near the trading routes outside the city, and they required towers for extra protection, however, some of them were located inside the city and did not required to be fortified because of it. A major difference is that these buildings did not had shops in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The EU s Generalized Scheme of Preferences (GSP) gives developing countries a vital access to EU markets and contributes to their economic growth by allowing their exporters to pay lower duties on their exports to the EU. The Aztecs were a Mesoamerican Empire that rose in power in the post classic period. From the 1300 s 1521, the Aztecs continued to increase their population and their influence in the Mesoamerican region, despite the upcoming nearby empires, such as the Tlaxcalan empire. This all changed with the arrival of the Spaniard, Hernan Cortez. Cortez was a Spanish conquistador under the rule of Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand. Cortez contributed for the downfall of many empires, including the Aztecs. Even though conquering was not a part of the Catholics religion. The ancient Aztecs followed their religious beliefs more closely than did the Spanish Catholic Hernan Cortez. Unlike the Spanish, The Aztecs believed that there were many gods that contributed to everyday life patron god, Huitzilopochtli, communicated to the Aztec priest, Motecuhzuma, that it was time to migrate to another region. • 15. America As A Melting Pot As soon as someone calls the United States a melting pot, I immediately picture the School House Rock music video in which hundreds of happy immigrants dive into the pot to swim together in harmony. The idea of America as a melting pot is, on the surface, a good intentioned metaphor that carries with it the implication of our unity within one, uniquely American culture. Unfortunately, this metaphor carries negative connotations as well, including forced assimilation into the majority as you melt away into the mix. Imagine five pieces of chocolate, one white, added to a heated saucepan; eventually, it all turns brown. Despite the multiplicity of cultures added to this melting pot, something is lost in the final product: diversity. In a melting pot, it is suggested that we blend together; we are indistinct; we are Americans united in one culture, one language, one creed. Simply stated, this is not an accurate representation of our country s culture or its citizens. I find the stew to be a much more appropriate metaphor. Even when heated and stirred, a stew maintains its individual elements (potatoes, beef, onions, carrots, celery, etc.), but also allows for some transfer of flavors. The beef flavor is infused with notes of carrot and onion; the carrots have the added flavors of the broth and beef. The stew continues to have unique, individual elements, but it tastes better in tangent with other flavors. This is a more fitting description of America, as citizens ... However the one that stuck out the most was the White Witch being the representation of Satan. This imagery is seen in her history, her presence, and the weapons she uses. The White Witch has a history seen very shortly in The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe(Lewis, 1978). In the book, the White Witch prefers to be called Jadis Queen of Narnia (Lewis, 1978, p 64) Jadis means long ago, of old or witch (Campbell, n.d. ). So, the name she prefers means the witch from long ago. She has a big ego, however her true name is Lilith. C.S. Lewis took the tale of Lilith, the first wife of Adam who rebelled (The Story of Lilith, n.d.), and planted her in his story. In his story, however, she is a bit different. Jadis is part Jinn and part giant (Lewis, 1978, p 88). A jinn is a type of demon so her type of species can be put together to mean a giant demon. So the big demon is implying that biggest bad which is Satan. Lilith also comes into the story as the emperor s hangman, You know that every traitor belongs to me as my lawful prey and that for every treachery I have a right to a kill. (Lewis, 1978, p ?). In the story, she was given this job because she was the first person to betray the emperor . This role is a representation of Satan, as those who betray and turn away from God go to Satan. Once you are with Satan everything seems better but then the truth behind the beauty is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 23. Themes In I Am Legend Dystopian movies are based on an unpleasant society and often themes that play out in reality. Stories are built on universal storytelling elements and literary devices as they intertwine with the central theme of the story. In the dystopian movie, I Am Legend by Francis Lawrence the primary theme of loss of humanity is delivered in a manner that reflects these elements. This movie is ultimately based on a disease that affected the population of New York and the finding of the cure. Reaching the reader s emotions, symbolism, heroic scenarios and interesting ways in which a story is told structure this movie and play off of the theme of loss in humanity. Sam, Robert Neville s dog symbolizes the reflection of loss in humanity with the use of reaching the reader s emotions as Sam serves as Roberts primary companion in the movie I Am Legend. This plays an important role within the story because Sam belonged to Roberts daughter Marley. In a flashback Marley had given her father Sam in hopes of her caring for her Father just before Marley and her Mother had passed away, in that moment Marley had exchanged her last words with the puppy. Sam you take care of Daddy, (Francis Lawrence) This was a form of her security blanket in hopes that Sam could secure her Father. Even though illegal organizations were violating laws such as forcibly occupying the Tiananmen Square and vandalizing establishments, it does not justify the poor government attempt to control the riots with fully armed military soldiers. But, what people in such relationships fail to realise until it is too late is the downside to this sort of relationship, not only for the dominated , but also for the dominating , as such an obsession with ruling over another eventually led the Duke to murder his wife. Though most people would not have taken as drastic a measure as the Duke, the poet probably uses such a negatively powerful result to emphasize on the harmful aspects of such a relationship. Also, this poem follows a strict rhyme scheme and has a conversational rhythm. It is written in iambic pentameter, which probably conveys the conflict within himself between what he says and what he really is a murderer! Furthermore, this sort of communion does not hold many positive aspects for the partner who lets himself/herself be controlled by the other either. As a result the 1970s, which followed the socially impactful 60 s, are often seen as the decade where nothing happened or, more specifically, nothing good happened . Edward Berkowitz attempts to break this nothing happened stigma through his novel, appropriately named Something Happened. The decade of the oil crisis, the Watergate scandal, and the Iranian hostage crisis, also provided legislative progress for many minority groups. Thomas Borstelmann acknowledges the decade s formal equality but is wary to accept that society was as progressive. Alice Echols however, asserts that the decade s dance phenomenon expanded social equality, in her novel Hot Stuff. Echols and Berkowitz unanimously feel the 70 s made way for increased acceptance of minority groups; despite disagreeing on which minority groups benefitted. Borstelmann provides a much more skeptical analysis stating the 70s provided formal equality while ...private prejudice and its very real negative impacts still endured Alice Echols applauds the influence the 70s had on inclusion of previously underrepresented groups; women, homosexuals and African Americans. • 29. A Brief Note On The Canadian Charter Of Rights And Freedoms Proper housing is crucial to a human being s wellbeing, both mentally and physically. It is fundamental in ensuring good mental health, physical health, and it sets the basis for social inclusion in society. Housing is necessary for human beings to be able to survive and be able to protect themselves from the elements. It is recognized as a basic human need alongside food and water; thus, it is surprising that an estimated minimum of 235,000 people in a developed country like Canada remain homeless and an estimated one in five people cannot afford housing (Heffernan, Tracy; Faraday, Fay; and Rosenthal, Peter, 2015). Statistics such as these beg the question of whether or not the right to housing or the right to affordable housing is recognized in Canada. The answer to this question is quite complicated as there is no clear right in the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedomsthat recognizes a specific right to housing or shelter, however, under section 7 and section 15 of the charter which state that Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of the person and the right not to be deprived thereof except in accordance with the principles of fundamental justice and Every individual is equal before and under the law and has the right to the equal protection and equal benefit of the law without discrimination and, in particular, without discrimination based on race, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, sex, age or mental or physical disability(Canadian ... The book had actually taken a whole 7 years to write. Mark Twain could not think of how to continue the story after the part where Huck and Jim accidentally went too far past Cairo in the fog. Mark Twain has said that the character of Huck Finn is based upon a real life child that Twain once knew, a man named Tom Blankenship. This story is mainly about the growing and adventurous friendship between Huck and Jim. Huck, who is also the narrator, has his many very wild and adventurous traits. Subjects were assigned one of four beverage options: water, Gatorade, Coke, or nothing. Beverages of different compositions were used to study what effects does fluid intake have on urinevolume and composition. Subjects fasted five hours prior to the experiment, in which the subjects were required to void and test their own urine every thirty minutes for 120 minutes after ingesting the beverage they were assigned. The urine volume, specific gravity, and urine pH were measured for each void. The subjects were instructed to fast five hours prior to the experiment and were allowed to drink only eight ounces of water if necessary (Manuguid et al., 2015). Avoiding food or drink rendered the subjects in a similar physiological state at the start of the experiment. This is important because the consumption of food or drink shortly before the experiment may affect the volume and composition of the urine voided, which would have affected the results. If a subject had ingested a considerable amount of fluid an hour before the experiment, their urine volume for their first void could have been greater than expected. The amount of liquid the subjects ingested depended on their body weight. As a result, the amounts of liquid ingested varied within the drinking groups. At T0, the subjects were in a state of ... What do we know about how young children engage with music? There has been quite a lot of research looking at the very early years. We know that babies can remember music from even before birth. My own study with the Child of Our Time group in 2001 showed that exposure to a particular piece of music before birth had long lasting effects, as the babies seemed to prefer listening to that music up to 15 months after birth. Other studies have explored the features of maternal singing, showing how this can make the baby feel calm. When holding a conversation, it would help to be educated on the topic in order to make it more intellectually stimulating. If one is educated, one can respond thoughtfully to the topic, and can therefore engage in, and sometimes lead, the discussion. Tannen, however, suggests that expertise does not guarantee women center stage in discussion. She noted that if women were experts on the topic, they were quick to hide it and in doing so, the non expert male became the dominant force in the discussion. When I have expertise knowledge on a subject, I tend to draw upon it as much as possible. I was once involved in a heated debate regarding abortion and I was arguing pro life. My male opponent said that abortion is necessary because there are numerous many cases of rape and incest, and because of the circumstances, abortion must be an option. Since I had expertise knowledge on the subject, I was able to inform him that less than two percent of all abortions are due to both rape and incest and that the numbers were clearly over exaggerated in order to gain empathy. As the debate persisted, it was clear that I had the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. The Construction Of Red Black Trees 1 Introduction In recent years, much research has been devoted to the construction of red black trees; nevertheless, few have refined the confusing unification of Internet QoS and active networks [3,13,23,18,8]. The impact on random robotics of this has been adamantly opposed. An essential problem in hardware and architecture is the synthesis of checksums. To what extent can hash tables be developed to address this question? Statisticians never enable the Turing machine in the place of robots. Such a hypothesis is mostly a confirmed aim but fell in line with our expectations. Indeed, Web services [22] and public private key pairs have a long history of interacting in this manner. Indeed, operating systems [30] and RAID have a long history of interacting in this manner [35,22,19,33]. The basic tenet of this method is the visualization of hierarchical databases. Another essential riddle in this area is the emulation of cache coherence. It should be noted that LactylMuset locates local area networks. However, large scale configurations might not be the panacea that systems engineers expected. Even though similar approaches improve the memory bus, we achieve this goal without harnessing the compelling unification of operating systems and context free grammar. LactylMuset, our new heuristic for perfect archetypes, is the solution to all of these grand challenges. The disadvantage of this type of method, however, is that the foremost large scale algorithm for the exploration ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Dbq Who Killed Reconstruction Essay Do you ever wonder who really killed Reconstruction? Reconstruction was the period between 1865 1877 where the North was trying to help African Americans gain political equality. Reconstruction gave freedmen their freedom through the 13th amendment, citizenship and civil rights through the 14th amendment, and the right to vote for the 15th amendment. People such as carpetbaggers, Northerners who went south to help with Reconstruction and scalawags, southern whites who supported Reconstruction, were supporters of Reconstruction. However, many white supremacist groups such as the Ku Klux Klan didn t and even tried to intimidate freedmen and Republicans to try to bring an end to Reconstruction and equal rights for freed slaves. From this, it shows that Reconstruction died of two causes, northern neglect and southern resistance. However, I think northern neglect was the primary cause of the end of Reconstruction.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, Northerners were starting to feel indifferent about events in the South as the North grew weary of the Negro Question and the government supporting carpetbaggers (Doc. C, Danzer). Also, according to the cartoon, Grant is diving in the barrel to try to find all the scandals, which means that because of the scandals, the North will focus more on the scandals than on Reconstruction (Doc. C, cartoon). The North was also starting to view freedmen in a racist way, saying that they were unfit for the proper exercise of political duties because of them being slaves for so long, they weren t capable of running a government without assistance (Doc. D, Richardson). They also racially depicted African Americans as fat, loud, and undisciplined politicians (Doc. D, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. The Floppy Drive in a Musical Context Essay 1.1Mechanism of a musical floppy drive The floppy drive itself is musical in a certain way depending on what people may perceive as musical such as the sound of friction. In my project, the floppy drive makes sounds through pitched notes due to friction between the read write head and the diskette. It produces notes since the diskette has contact friction with read write head, in revolution. Recall that sine waves can be viewed as the progression of a circle over time, or a revolution. Spinning at higher speeds increases the pitch and also the frequency. The spindle motor spins the floppy drive at a certain speed controlled by the microcontroller. Then, read write head will be positioned on the diskette with a drive motor that will... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In resume, we produce sound by using a floppy drive, a computer and a microcontroller. Simply convert properly and if there is contact between the read write head and the diskette itself, it will produce an audible pitch. 1.2The use of floppy drive music in musical context Floppy music is quite good to listen to in my opinion. However, some might consider it as not musical due its lack of musical characteristic as the floppy drive was not invented to be a musical instrument but a disk reader. It also does not make any musical association with most people since floppy drives are associated with computers and electronics. The contexts where this type of instrument might be considered musical in my opinion would be the internet, a creative project and certain performances. It has never been used formally as an instrument, however, due to the tesla coils success in concerts, I speculate that introducing floppy drive music would be a success since most YouTube videos with a musical floppy drive have pretty high number of views and critics have been grateful the singing tesla coils. Musical diskette readers should be possible since there are a few bands that try to implement a new experience in the audience by using new instruments that are not associated with music like tesla coils. • 45. Thucydides And Thucydides History And Warfare Herodotus and Thucydides were historians who dramatically influenced the way we look at Greek history and warfare. The two historians approach their stories in completely different ways, which ultimately leads to different explanations of the origins of conflict. Herodotus focuses on recalling the origins of the Ionian Revolt, the rise of the Persian Empire, and the Persian Wars with Greece, while Thucydides writes about the Peloponnesian War. M.I. Finely suggests, in the introduction of Thucydides book that Thucydides is complementing Herodotus by beginning where Herodotus left off (Finley, History of the Peloponnesian War p.16). Although these two historians approach the start of conflicts in different ways, it seems that Thucydides is not suggesting that Herodotus explanations are wrong. While evaluating conflicts of warfare, Herodotus provides a less bias perspective than Thucydides, but Thucydides is able to understand the underlying causes of wars better due to the fact that he is writing about warfare that he was alive for. Thucydides conveniently opens up his book by explaining his methodology. The Athenian tells the readers that his motivation for writing the book was ignited by a sense that the war fought between Athens and Spartawould be important (Thuc. 1.1). The reader should be aware of the biases that Thucydides includes in his writing, due to the fact that he is an Athenian writing about an Athenian war. Perseverance Reflection When I first started to think about what the theme of my lesson was going to be, I immediately thought about my preschool and pre k students that I work with on a daily basis. What are they learning now? What are some important concepts in life that haven t been taught in depth? What concept can be difficult to comprehend without implementing drama? These were just some of the many questions that were going through my head. When I first came across the book The Most Magnificent Thing by Ashley Speirs, I immediately was captured by the theme of perseverance in the book. The week that I found the book, I had been working with a student who was trying to complete a puzzle and she was getting frustrated. I sat down with her and encouraged her to continue trying and with a little help she completed the puzzle. The look on her face when she completed that puzzle was electrifying. She was so excited and so proud of herself when she finally fit that last piece into the puzzle. This experience helped me when choosing the topic of my monologue because when I came across the book, I realized that the concept of perseverance would be a perfect concept to teach through the integration of drama. One reason, I felt like the integration of drama would be so useful in teaching this concept was that many students are probably able to comprehend the definition of perseverance, but what does perseverance look like? • 48. Ichabod Crane Character Analysis Ichabod Crane s adventure related in The Legend of Sleepy Hollow demonstrates where someone s unchecked and undesirable personality traits can lead him. Washington Irving wrote The Legend of Sleepy Hollow in 1820. The story describes how Ichabod Crane persistently frightened himself by supposing he saw and heard supernatural beings. When Crane competed with Brom Bones for a lady s love, Bones took advantage of Ichabod Cranes character flaws scaring him out of town by impersonating the dreaded Headless Horseman. Ichabod Crane s greed, superstition, and fearfulness resulted in his downfall. Ichabod Crane s greed hindered his relationship with the townspeople, making some, such as Brom Bones, pleased to expel Crane from town, and others indifferent to his leaving. Crane had a great gluttonous appetite, so he lived successively a week at a time in his pupils homes because they could not afford to house such a gourmand (Irving 17). Moreover, he earned the distaste of the town s other men while trying to earn the affections of Katrina Van Tassel, whom he hoped to marry because of her wealth. He knew if the marriage occurred, many delicious meals would await him. The pedagogue s mouth watered as he looked upon this sumptuous promise of luxurious winter fare, (Irving 20). Furthermore, Ichabod Crane s greed extended even to a love of power, which he executed over his schoolhouse. For slovenly, naughty, or lazy children, he always had his whip ready. Proudly, he ... • 49. Benjamin Franklin s Virtues To Create A Perfect Moral Society One of Benjamin Franklin s goals in life was to create a perfectly moral society. Is there even such a thing as a perfectly moral society? How would one go about forming this unheard of thing? Franklin observed people and used his own knowledge to form his list of thirteen virtues, behaviors that conduct high moral standards. Could these virtues create a perfect society? In order for Franklin s plan to work, every person must follow all thirteen of these virtues. A benefit comes from each thing Franklin listed. One of these benefits is creating good citizens. A good citizen is someone who respects their town, government, and fellow peers. Temperance and moderation are good qualities to have because that means everyone can control themselves. Silence also comes in handy because it can keep people from getting offended or hurt by another person s words. Order keeps everything running smoothly, even in time of disaster. Tranquility can... I also believe moderation could be removed because it is closely related with temperance. Silence is another thing that can be good at certain times, but can also be bad at other times. Sometimes people need to speak their opinions; otherwise, nothing would ever be changed. Everything would stay exactly the same and I don t think they would be good for society. Cleanliness is also another virtue that does not relate to being a good citizen. While it does have something to do with your character and appearance, it does not affect your morals and ability to be a good citizen. These are the only revisions I would make to Franklin s plan. I see no need for anything else to be removed or added. He covered the basics, but in some sense he went a little overboard. Examples Of Adaptive Traits In An Organbird ADAPTATION AND TRAITS One of the adaptive traits that are said to have evolved in the population of an organism is the beak of the the bird called the Finch. Most notably, birds are similar in the sense that they have wings yet most birds exhibit differences in size.some birds are small while others are big.One very importantly feature that make birds distinct is the shape and size of the beak. This is intresting how birds can be so different yet belong to the same species. however. This is due in part to assist the birds in the way of feeding in order for the birds to survive in their environment. Describe what makes this trait an adaptation. The beak is an adaptive trait that is useful for birds to function in their environment. Ancient civilizations were extremely religious, holding the belief that their very lives were in the hands of their almighty god or goddess. However, their stories have some differences according to cultural variation but the main structure, ideas, and themes are generally found correlative. The divine blesses the righteous and punishes the evil man to remind their limitation and worship to the God. In the Book of Genesis, the idea of knowledge emerges throughout punishment. This theme is most apparent when Adam and Eve deceive God by eating from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. When they do this, they are immediately given the ability to discern between right and wrong. The Old Testament states, The woman saw that the tree was good for food, pleasing to the eyes, and desirable for gaining knowledge (Genesis 3:6). Promptly Adam and Eve gain knowledge and realize their nakedness as punishment from God. Likewise in Gilgamesh, Enkidu, was a wild man before he was seduced by a harlot from Uruk. After his encounter with harlot he notices his abilities have been greatly suppressed. Enkidu was grown weak, the narrator tells us, for wisdom was in him, and the thoughts of a man were in his heart. The woman says to him, You are wise, Enkidu, and now you have become like a god. Why do you want to run wild with the beasts in the hills? She tells him about strong walled Uruk and the blessed temple of Ishtar and of Anu, of love and of heaven, and about Gilgamesh himself. • 52. A Life Or Death Situation By Robin Marantz Henig Essay A Life or Death Situation, by Robin Marantz Henig, New York Times, July, 2013, is a review of the debate surrounding the right to a dignified death. It examines the purely philosophical view of the issue; as well as the heart wrenching reality of being faced with that question in one s personal life. Does a person have a right to choose how he or she dies? How does that choice impact the people who care about about him or her? Should a person who cares about someone be required to cause or aide in his or her death? These questions weigh heavy on the minds of many people, who live with injured, impaired and physically incapable people everyday. I selected this article, because it is relevant in my life. My sister, passed in August. She had suffered from lung disease for over 10 years, even though she was totally dependent on the ventilator, she was conscious and alert. She was weak but, could still walk across the room unaided. And if it meant that she could go shopping, she would have you pack up the whole house; 3 tanks of oxygen, portable ventilator, suction machine, and wheelchair. Over the course of her illness, the doctors called us to the familymeeting about a half dozen times. Each time we refused, and she improved enjoying another 6 to 8 months before a crisis.
